Gen. Mark Milley to Nancy Pelosi: 'I Agree With You on Everything'
"Mike gallagher. Maranda devine weighs in on the general milley thing in the new york post and so honestly if you're radio interviews generals who say well. It's not that big a deal. I mean generals talked to generals all the time you know. I talked yesterday about nancy. Pelosi is involved and that's what she dives into let me quote from her article. I mean journal. Mark milley became so deranged that he cast himself allegedly as the hero of a seven days in may style fever dream in only he could save the nation from trump trump launching nuclear war with china to stay in office. It's an insane scenario. Left wing equivalent of the most far-fetched cunanan conspiracies. She writes but this is what is claimed in. The woodward cost of book entitled peril show alarmed was the tightly wound. General about what he imagined. Trump might do that. He made secret calls his counterpart in china. Promising to warn them if the president ordered an attack. It's clear that milly or people authorized by him leaked details of his delusional daring due to a number of authors. Because he's proud of his actions. His lack of shane bodes ill for the country if he remains the nation's highest ranking military officer as chairman of the joint chiefs of staff the botched withdrawal of troops from afghanistan over which he presided was bad enough. She writes what's next and the most disturbing part she writes of the mili- story is nancy. Pelosi's malign influence. The general seem to treat her as his commander in chief pelosi who was engaged in a blood feud with trump that sent her batty manipulated and bullied. Milly a transcript of a call with pelosi two days after the january six capital riot obtained by the payroll authors has her ranting at about trump's access to nuclear weapons pelosi said if they couldn't even stop him from an assault on the capital who even knows what else he may do and is there anybody in charge of the white house who is doing anything but kissing his fat but all over this. He's crazy you know he's crazy. He's been crazy for a long time so don't say you don't know what his state of mind is. Milly reportedly responded madam speaker. I agree with you on

What Was Nancy Pelosi's Role on the Same Day Gen. Mark Milley Calls China?
"We already civilian controlled military. Whether you agree with that premise or not, is irrelevant. That's our constitution. It's not a suggestion. The Constitution it's the governing body of the the most supreme governing document of the land. It's not just some dry piece of crap, parchment. Hey, we'll just the Constitution suggestion. We'll abide by what we feel like it. Otherwise I just use the toilet paper. That's not the way this works. Who authorized the call. It's now clear as day based on Donald Trump's statements and the acting secretary defense that the call was not authorized. So Millie took it upon himself. I say it's an open question only Because I'm still waiting for Mark Milley to give a statement about who in fact authorizes told him to do it. Here's the second question. The one I opened up the show with and I've been posting all day. I covered this in my podcast earlier to which I encourage you to listen to What was Nancy Pelosi's role on the same day Mark Milley calls the Chinese Communist Party general. In defiance of Donald Trump. He has no authority to do it. The secretary of defense hasn't given him this authority to do it. Nancy Pelosi tells her Democrat caucus up on the hill. Hey, Don't worry. We got our closet. Millie, We got this situation under control. What does that mean? Why did she say that? Who did she talk to? Did she coordinate this with Mark Milley? Who told her to do it. Well, who told her to do? Where did where does where does she think she gathered? This is this authority from it's certainly no nowhere to be found in the
Why Won't GOP Leaders Condemn Gen. Milley?
"Where is lindsey graham. Where is john kent. Where are these republican leaders who ought to be full-throated condemnation of gener- general milley. Here's the here's the tucker clip in context people with oversight seemed to be on his side this morning. Tom cotton. The republican senator from arkansas came on fox and friends to talk about mark milley. Here's part of that conversation. This book raises some serious concerns. That some of the allegations seem somewhat farfetched to me. But general secretary austin are going to be testifying in front of congress and just a few days and we'll address these concerns. Don't wanna jump conclusions yet. I know he will address it and will ensure that he addresses it but this is one of those claims. Obviously that seems a little farfetched idea that in american military general is going to warn adversary if an attack is coming as you say when donald trump was never even thinking about a military attack against china. The whole thing is pretty far fetched. We don't want to jump to conclusions yet. Really what conclusions at the time. That interview took place this morning in an already been. Conclusively establish that mark milley was pushing open. Racism on the united states military that he had bragged to fellow officers about resisting. The american president quote with guns and that he had told military officials that he not. The president controlled our country's nuclear arsenal. So much more evidence. Do you need exactly. And why does no one in washington consider this a crisis. The leadership of the pentagon some of them anyway consta- through the united states seems right to me. And frankly from where. I sit senator cotton and senator graham's milk toast response to. This crisis is pretty
Biden Court Pick Says Brett Kavanaugh Is ‘Morally Bankrupt’
"Welcome back america. I'm hugh hewitt. Thank you for joining me. On this thursday morning senator. Tom cotton from arkansas. Is my guest. Good morning senator. Thank you for joining me. Good morning to you. It's good to be on with you as always. I've got a lot of things to covering begin. Perhaps counter intuitively with your on the senate judiciary committee. I played part of your questioning of the nominee jennifer sung the night circuit. I would not vote to confirm anyone who signs such a letter. Will you know of course not huge. Jennifer song is a far left lawyer who signed a letter the day after brett cabinet. I was nominated. I think she called him intellectually and morally bankrupt and predicted that people will die if he's confirmed Look i'm saying disagreeing with kavanagh's rulings. When he was a judge now justice. I disagreed with the here and there as well Disagreed much. every justice's rulings here and there. So i'm a lot more than others. Obviously but i'm not aware why you probably morally bankrupt and it is sung obviously couldn't predict the person or the person who has died in the last three years we vertibrak break capping off to the court. I gotta say no. That's just the tip of the iceberg. The by the ministration has nominated dozens. Maybe hundreds of people whose twitter feed. Show them to be totally unhinged. I i mean they really went off the deep end in the trump or some people that i genuinely respected from the obama era. Maybe i didn't agree with them all the time. But i thought especially in the world of national security. They were responsible sensible sober-minded professionals even if we had our disagreements here and there about say how to confront isis or What our policy iraq was. And then you look at me. Twitter speeds. When i come back in front of us to be confirmed this time around. And they sound like crazy people ranting in the
Worried Trump Could 'Go Rogue,' Milley Took Secret Action to Protect Nuclear Weapons
"Now the big story in washington. Dc and it really did grip the city yesterday is what the general milley say and doom did he say it after the new woodward and cost a book peril has appeared. The white house stepped forward to defend general milley against charges. He did anything inappropriate. Editorials in the washington post and the wall street journal both call for infant investigations and hearings under oath general milley for fear that he is compromised. Not merely american defense into conversations with china but the constitutional order. Now i have said from the beginning two days ago. Hold your fire on this. Wait and see. Acting secretary of defense miller who had replaced mark esperer at the time of the second call says he did not authorize the call and that's extraordinary cause for resignation. Mike pompeo went on fox with hannity last night and made some comments on this. What you to your secretary pompeo number one. I have no recollection of a conversation. Like that. look we were all pretty down. We are about to hand over the reins of foreign policy to what this administration we. We've seen these last eight months. What that means for the united states of america so if someone asked was excited about january twentieth and the fact that we were no longer going to have the capacity to secure american freedom. Count me for being a pretty dark place to. But what's important to know sean. Is you know all this has as a product that somehow there was. This fear there was there was a cabinet members. Run around concern. The donald trump was going to engage in some kind of rogue activity or some kind of act of war to sorta lash out. This never happened. Just it's just patently absurd and so the entire credit for all of this assessment that woodward is now laid out in his book. We'll see what turns out but make no mistake about it. During that entire time the entire time. I served all four years. We conducted orally foreign policy. We had national security team. That was working hard to make sure we make the best decisions. We possibly good. And i think the data set which show that. We did a pretty damn effect job and doing that.

I have always done them on my own. Well she's not intelligent enough to do that because social and what's with these journal entries do all Mormons have to write a journal? Is it a female thing? Is it expected of again if you keep a journal? That's great. I have such like an adverse reaction to journal keeping simply because it's been used against me. For example you know journal entries from my great great great grandfather about how a church is true or or whatever you know but it's a very mormon thing to keep it your kind of commanded to it's sort of like maintaining the storyline you know. Is You know when I was leaving the Church in my dad's like your heritage or your pioneer heritage sending like journal entries about how the Churches Troon Ball Ball like like guilt. You know guilt and shame you know what if someone got my journal. Entry from fifteen years ago I would have been saying the church is true I would have been saying God Blah Blah Blah. I would have been like. Oh the Prophet Prophet. You know. Yeah it's not true. I not that same person I've grown. I've understood I hope that no one would use my words from a journal to put pressure and guilt. Shame on someone else. There is so much expected of you. When you're Mormon God yes like who has time for consistent journaling? Well apparently Betty's mom did and she wrote down all the Shit and then send it to work. There's so much you gotta do I'm worn out.

A mother's Day is well. Just because this mother's Day applicable from Betty we talking more from Betty more from Betty so somehow this came up she said. Did I tell you what my mom sent me for my birthday? Okay so for. Betty's birthday her mother center this thing and I was so that's the mother's Day connection because it's mother trust me. It's getting there and I said No. Did she send you this book and then I sent her a picture of that book woman? And she's like no worse. She went back through her journals and took out pages about two hundred of them since nineteen sixty to the present and sent them to me. Apparently she did this for all the kids and everyone gets their collection of journal pages on their birthday the cover letter. No Shit explains that she did this so the kids could read firsthand how hard it was for her as a mother how she sacrificed for us because there were eight children she had to love and a two time. Bishop. She was married to pages and pages of how her children never made her feel loved. Oh Gauges of how? My Dad never felt loved or appreciated pages about how he treated her and it was the kids fault. She left him. My God. This was supposed to be a birthday present. Designees this happy days mom sending a birthing gifts to betty about how how betty mistreated her. Yeah it'd be amazed sending a gift to smash she up or any of my kids about how horrible it is to be their mom. What's on their birth? So here's more oh I know. Betty says my favorite was her describing how she got in a fight with my dad about me. She said I told him the husband. I told him that Betty was only nineteen and that she would need help on her taxes and he said that betty knew how to read and could figure out her own taxes and I told him that it was a man's job to provide for his family to take care of the yard and do complicated things like taxes because women weren't smart enough to do complicated things like that. None of hidden knows women. No we're stupid and Tim just mumbled something and walked away later that night. We had a good talk and both of us recognize that. We don't feel appreciated for what we do. Happy Birthday and then she goes and thanks mom for degrading the intelligence of all women. Uh-huh unreal. Yeah Happy Birthday Betty from your mother. That goes all throughout northern Virginia so pumped about to sell the trail baby in the name of Jesus Christ income okay. So shall we move on to what you got well today? I'm going to start out by reading a post That was in the latter day lesbian podcast discussion group. Join the group yet. Get Your Shit together over a lot of great people in their seriously. Yeah you just need to answer three questions you need to know domino and Eddie. Dogs names fucked up more and freezing the day. Yeah we just gave you the answer. So if somebody said sucked up Mormon phrase of the day that works to we let him in You can't remember the dogs names when they write in really clever things that make us laugh. Yeah Own Yup come on buyer at his name was Eric and so funny that we called. Eddie Eric Two weeks name. We still call at a Eric Yelich when he's being a Dick. We're like Eric give him. Biding your brother anyway. So this message meant something to me. Hey you guys here. I am enjoying an afterward beer in the sun. I'm Nomo I think she means. Never Mo- will forgive her okay but was raised in a fundamentalist Christian environment. Oh Ding Ding Ding me too brutal. This morning I listened to the first of the letter series and I almost started crying at work com. Yeah the writer mentioned about sometimes still feeling wrong what I am in the wrong. I am frequently plagued by this question. My girlfriend and I have been dating for almost two years and have often talked of marriage. Sometimes I'm excited but most of the time. I'm anxious I keep. Having these daydreams of what my future should be a husband several kids and a homestead and. I'm worried that if I commit myself to her my girlfriend. I'm missing out on my life that I'm supposed to have I don't know if it makes sense it makes me feel crazy my girlfriend. I have a loving wonderful relationship but I can't escape the feeling that it's temporary and it's not legitimate I don't know how you could help but help. Do any of you feel that way. What has helped you. Let go of those expectations and embrace. What is real and good? Can I say something right off the Bat Yep fuck religion yeah that is the thing that keeps us mired in these guilt and shame feelings that we're supposed to be this? We're supposed to be doing this. Guess what we're not supposed to be doing anything. No we can do anything we want. As long as it doesn't bring harm to another person. Yeah or yourself for that matter and living. You're a fantastic life. Your fenwick self doesn't bring harm to anyone so be authentic. Yeah I agree. Don't let somebody else's rules for WHO. You're supposed to be what you're supposed to do shape your life exactly. I agree completely and the responses to this person's message were amazing and empathetic and understanding because all of us as ex Mormons or ex Super Christian whatever that have broken away from this idea that we have to be a certain way to be happy. It still is hard. Oh yeah those roots run deep. Oh they do and so when you have the results of trying to be what they say. I E seven children hungry do and then you have to live your way authentically which now goes against what you were taught. And there's kids in the mix and they're not getting what you were taught they. It's just fucking saw. Yeah it can be. I can be a lot untangle and yeah of course there are going to be times when you feel like you're doing it wrong because your version of your authentic self might go against the Church's teachings. Yeah whatever church. Yeah and so. You're going to struggle now and then with will crap. Am I supposed to be with their telling me? I'm supposed to be but it's not cookie cutter. We don't live. Cookie cutter lives where one-size-fits-all yet might seem like the quorum of the twelve or the seventy are the exact same carbon copies of each other because they are trying to be one thing. They're trying to be the perfect example of a Mormon man it doesn't allow for any variation no not at all and then when they sit down and write a book telling us how to be women. It's even more ridiculous and so in honor of Mother's Day and struggles that I'm having right now with children or get into that a little later. I went to the very next chapter in the book. Woman which again was written by fifteen men telling women who they are and how they're supposed to act. I went to the very next chapter that we wanted to discuss. Here's the sound of me opening pages. Legit book can hear it. Next chapter this is written by elder David B Haight. Perfect name Who was an apostle of the Lord? According to him when he was one of the twelve postles okay. Badly blush and so. That's a corum. Okay yes you know what? Fuck them and their egos. They're titles titles and considering themselves apostles. Yeah well I mean there's not really an equivalent in women because women never get cool title but no we'll never get to be apostles. No even though I secretly think Mary Magdalene was an apostle. Probably it's my or progress has opinion for what it's call ourselves profit taxes. Can I just be a profit? He'll that S.'s. Profits I hate that you take a masculine word and put in an es on it and it becomes the female version of it. Okay well we're profits than okay shit anyway. So elder hate hate. He decides to Read Chapter. About women as mother can't wait to hear what he has to say. Can be fantastic and as I read through this again. This book is Old. It was written back in nineteen seventy nine but these attitudes are still alive and well today in mormonism. It's not like this old old old old shit. What was almost nine hundred eighty? Which wasn't that long ago. No but if you think about it. Nineteen eighty would've been around the time that my parents were raising kids. So this was the attitude that MOMS had This is what how they were told. They had to act. And as I read through this chapter I was like fuck. This is why my ex husband never thought I did enough. Never thought I was good enough. Never thought tried hard enough and told me because I see that that's how he was raised by his mom who I am sure had this book. Yeah and so. He thinks his mom did it right. and then there's one way to be a mom that I should have done it like his mom So here we go. I've highlighted some amazingly wonderful parts a woman's basic role whereby she fulfils the measure of creation. Is that of Motherhood Memories of talk about how I knew because of the way I was taught that the only thing that I needed to be good at was being a mother and I couldn't even fucking it that right. So what use was I kept trying and trying trying to do it seven times? Yeah and you have at least one miscarriages. We had two miscarriages holy crap. You could've been a mother nine times. Yeah probably would have been Jesus Christ Next sentence if we are to clearly understand a woman's role as mother. We need to understand her place. In God's eat design so yeah no pressure me is a man as elder David. B haight. I'm going to tell you as a woman how God wants you to me. And the only way that you fit into God's plan Motherfucker YEP the stewardships assigned to men and women are part of God's eternal plan to prepare us for God hood and we cannot disregard them without risking our positions in that plan in other words. Don't argue with what I'm about to tell you or you're sacrificing your position in God's plan when you if you don't follow God's plan you don't go to heaven. Yeah since the dawn of creation no aspect of women's live compares with her divine appointment to be the vessel for the physical birth of a child who has been nurtured within her vessel so this is since the dawn of creation by the way all yours of housing. No aspect of women's life compares Nothing else you do. We'll matter yeah this is it your vessel. If I wasn't browbeaten with this Kinda shit growing up and again. I was raised in the eighties and nineties. This book was still fully in circulation. These were the kind of lessons that I heard in my youth. Schorr and these are the kind of lessons that would still be taught as I was an adult from the older generation of women in Relief Society. So this didn't go away in nineteen seventy nine right. We had a lot of people right in after we went through some of this book before saying. Oh my God. I read that book. That book explains why I'm so fucked up. My mom had that book on her shelf. That's how she raised Okay mother is a very versatile individual..

Facebook twitter and Youtube have been assuring the public in recent weeks that they are doing the best they can to curb misinformation surrounding cove in nineteen. But a New York Times report found that they could be doing a lot better at pretty much everything but specifically when it comes to dealing with misinformation spread by the president himself just a week after trump suggested that disinfectants and ultraviolet light could treat cove in one thousand nine hundred people the Times found nearly a thousand facebook groups and pages promoting those theories over forty five thousand tweets supporting them and video on UV. Light as a cure that was mentioned on the Internet over seventeen million times. The social media giants are typically more cautious about taking down trump's comments to avoid being accused of censorship but critics and lawmakers are demanding a more aggressive response given you know everything. Oh boy everything. Well it's important to know everybody's cousin is starting group. That's true all the people that I have on friend did. Yeah you know. Facebook is just a world is just cousins on facebook. You want to know where the cousins go after. You haven't seen them for a couple years they go to face. It's like purgatory but for cousins. Oh Wow that should be their new slogan yeah. I just think it's good that my I know that my cousins have something to do which is start a facebook group to swallow it fleet. Or whatever it is it's it's important just passionate invent something good to be invested this next one. I'm ready go for Baby Tesla. Ceo Elon Musk. I I don't think I read that last part right. I'm the current Varsity. I'm a middle school right. You empathize. Well I think that came through. The global health crisis has produced an entirely new kind of bad guy. What we had this podcast call a ventilator drifter. New York State had an expensive running with one of these guys last month. They paid sixty nine million dollars for leads to an engineer named yarn. Orrin Pines who had zero experience medical supplies and whose only apparent qualification was replying to a trump tweet to say quote weaken supply. Icu ventilators now reply. Guys Take Note. Your words have power in this world. According to New York State official who spoke to Buzzfeed News on background that tweet led the White House Corona Virus Task Force to recommend Orrin Pines as a vendor that led New York seat to pay him. These sixty nine million very nice for one thousand four hundred fifty ventilators. That never came. State is currently trying to recover the money. The story is just one example of frantic spending by federal and state governments in the early days of Cova Nineteen Status. Be Shopping man just really excited for the For Martin Scorsese to make a movie about that guy. Oh yeah cans me if I ventilate. Yeah it'll be produced by some crazy fraudulent kind of person who will eventually go to white collar prison. There's still a lot of uncertainty worldwide about how we'll move on from corona virus but for the grandparents of our planet. One question takes priority. When is it safe to hug my sweet grandchildren that I love that question? Got An answer in Switzerland this week. A top Swiss health officials said that since kids seemed to be relatively unaffected by the virus. Grandparents can go hug wild. They're under ten grandchildren's cheeks are safe to pinch. That's not universally agreed upon though the I like to smack the kids around the world. Health Organization is more cautious and is busy working on. Its own guidelines for grandchild hugging. Who knows how these guidelines are developed if there are beautiful strong grandma's in a lab somewhere giving out perfumey hugs science? I will participate in those trials and that is true because I don't feel like I got an grandmother. Hugs as a kid and I would just. I'll take what I can get even if it's from old coffin jacket. That's very sweet. I mean in ways Stephanie. Meyer author of the Twilight Saga which inspired a generation of Tumbler teens and made billions and sales at hot topic. Probably launched mysterious clock on her website. That counts down to May fourth. There aren't any other clues to what this clock is counting down to you. But all the links on the bottom lead to social accounts for fickle films which Meyer co-founded and presumably named fans are speculating. That all this could have something to do with Myers Midnight Sun. Which is a shelf project about the twilight series told from the perspective of Edward? Cullen wow I'm on the edge of my seat. These sparkling vampire played a would save. Regrettably Robert Pattinson in the movie if that's true. My thoughts and prayers are with team Jacob. Sorry Guys Jacob high of for not eating. "Hey there have you Friday. What squad turn up Raza Etcetera It's the weekend and if we weren't living in this bizarre reality we would be chillan Derby weekend. Yes the Kentucky Derby. I am from Kentucky Giddy you're from across the river in Cincinnati Tri State. Are you going to be drinking? Mint juleps and wearing an oversized hat in Memoriam. I can't say that I will because I have no relationship to the Kentucky Derby. I hate to say the only only relationship I have to. It is D- Bizarre names that they give the horses and the fact that it was an activity at my college for people in France to get on buses and go to the Kentucky Derby which is a negative association for me so I don't the greatest attachment to it. Unfortunately there's lots of reasons not to like the Derby. No they're hitting animals. That wasn't here when they shot that horse. It wasn't great but all right I guess is ruining it for you. I mean the combination of the two is definitely definitely enough. I didn't know if we were if we were in a mood to celebrate the Derby or not but how. How are you going to approach the remembrance? Shall we say of Derby Pass? I mean I personally do plan on drinking on Saturday. Mint juleps are disgusting. I might attempt to make one and then go back to old faithful Jameson. A diet coke. What up but yeah. That's really what I mostly used it for being from Kentucky just drink and gamble like ten dollars and inevitably lose but Yeah I guess I guess I'll just watch another one minute horse race online raising my arms. I don't know what to say. I mean you know. It's possible that you can find to enterprising squirrels outside throw attended. Then hope that they get in the loop. Yeah there's there ways there was there always right if you're listening. Tiny Jackie can met saddle. And that's a wrap temperature checks for the week you know. It's been so lovely to check in wherever you are. I hope the weather is warm. The sunshines Bray DC. What I did there and we're GONNA check back with you all next week.

"For this. We were untouchable. You know this doesn't happen when when Josh was in a Rehab. One of the kids died. And I'm like Oh my God that would never happen to us. Well you know it did and so then I thought Oh anything could happen now. but I don't know like after Josh died. First of all I left the church. I was so mad at God and all I all I did was look for. You know Read books about the afterlife and about life after death in about Sylvia Brown all these psychics and like I just couldn't get enough and you know my husband's still went to church and things he did and so we definitely had different ideas about how to find peace How did you feel like you personally managed right after that in terms of days weeks and then yeah well? The first thing we did was we are concerned about you and didn't know really what would be the best thing but we try to get you this art therapy. Do you remember that? So it was like right after and this woman came in and somebody had recommended this woman and I think you said you do it like it was gonna be going on for a few weeks and I guess it was a way to kind of deal with all that had happened. But then you said no. You didn't WANNA do it. So of course we didn't push it but you know. I think we're just so enmeshed in this hoping with Josh's death that you know we're many years before he died. It was all about Josh. You know. He was living in a perp pain in a cyclone in our you know then. He died but How do you feel like you managed on short term basis versus in the years? Since I guess it's been what nineteen years going on twenty between maybe coming to grips with your perspective on. I don't know like even the grease group I remember you went out with Can you talk a little bit about that or yeah so first of all? I don't know if you want or not. But Dad and grandma went to a group called Compassionate friends for people that had lost children and we went like a couple of times but it just didn't feel like a good match. I don't know They every time you went. You had to tell your story all over again and I really didn't want to do that. I wanted to go to somebody that I that they knew me. And they knew my story. And we could move on from there so me into other gals that had lost sons. Do the same reason we started just getting together on our own and I think they saved my life. We called ourselves the grief girls and we'd meet like once a week. Maybe it was Pinero. Maybe it was at home. And we'd talk and we'd actually laugh and it was the best thing it was just the best thing. I don't know what I would have done without him. Nobody else understood.

"And then it's better. It's better if we do be sad. Be Sad be sad. It's a pretty good mantra for all of us and individual moments of grief or at moments like the one. We're in now where the whole world feels upside down for backstory our interviewed. Jeremiah was a longtime coming lots of emails back and forth. Our executive producer jess is a luminaires fan. And when she found out that she jair had both lost brother the same way she reached out to see if he wanted to share a story. If you listened to our last episode you know that we had this grand plan to meet in person in Minneapolis. Record the finale. What you don't know is that we were also scheduled to meet up with Jeremiah. An interview him back stage out of luminaires concert doesn't it sound like cool and exciting but like so many things in our current world. That didn't happen instead. Jess superfan and tenacious producer. Got Back in her bunker and hopped on zoom which air during his son's nap time and I am glad to note that I am not the only one scheduling meetings around naptime. So I'm sitting here. Quarantined in Minnesota and on the other side of the zoom is Jeremiah. Freight's from the luminaires and this is a delayed conversation of Corona virus. Y'All the struggle is Real Haidara. Harry Unprecedented Strange Times that we're in right now. And we were slated to do this Discussion in person and Saint Paul but our tour got cancelled. So it's been a very Strange week for for everybody sounds like all over the world. So it's a crazy time. There was a a nagging voice in my head this morning. That was telling me To try to push this back again because I feel like I'm about to go into a heavy therapy session and in some ways I probably am and I think during this time I felt reluctant to want to do that but The little voice inside my head was now you should do it For whatever reason I think You know we'll talk about something sad for sure but it it still is an has and will affect millions of people Particularly Americans and their families so I think a strange as the backdrop of doing something like this with the corona virus stuff. That's going on. I in some weird way I do think it's a good idea to to continue in the power of technology. We can still make it happen so thankful for that but before all this hit with a corona virus and I think you talk to Liz on your team and she ultimately you said yes. I'll do this. What made you what made you say yes. I think for me You know having some gone through something like that as a as a kid to experience a tragic loss I think appealed to me and obviously the context is always needs to be right and needs to be perfect A good example of the wrong context. We'll be talking about my brother and the like when our Song Ho? Hey came out about seven or eight years ago. We were doing kind of top forty radio where we go and do interviews now and top forty radio is like they play Taylor swift and that share in a Maroon five and its top forty and the DJ's on top forty can be rather energetic and bobbly but in sort of a weird way so bright before you go live. You know. They're kind of like. Hey what's going on my name's you know whatever this and that and then it's like hello good morning we're here the limit ears and then a couple of times you know you okay so the song then. Jeremiah you brother died of a heroin drug overdose. What was that like? And then you're kind of like a deer in the headlights where it's literally the worst possible. set up to that question. That was sucky. Let's move next question. Yeah like there's no no segue into something that is so light into the heaviest event in my life so I think you know the right context is key so here. We are in a better context or rather here. They are in a better context to talk about the heaviest event and his life after the break. More of Jess's interview.

"What was your relationship like? What was he like? Can I remember? Typical sibling rivalry typical. Older brother. Younger brother so you know if we go way back I can remember like going his room and wanting to build him legos and I remember like he was taking a shower and I was in his bedroom and I was like. I'M GONNA make different types of Legos and see if he likes any of them and he can choose which one you know and that's very like that's way way long ago that is Jeremiah. Freights to friends and family. He's chair to the entire world. He's one of the guys and the Luminaires. The one who's usually wearing suspenders and FIDORA. But here he's talking about his older brother Josh. They were close as kids but things started to change as they got older. Josh became addicted to opioids after getting prescribed percocet for a knee injury in the eighth grade he got into trouble high school and ended up going to an alternative school where a friend introduced him to heroin. Things spiraled from there. It was tense and home and his brother eventually went to live with their grandmother after that. Jair Josh didn't see each other for long stretches of time. I don't actually remember the last time I saw him alive. I have a good idea of when it was but essentially my brother passed away in. May of two thousand and one and the last time that I saw him would have been about nine months earlier probably in October of the year. Two Thousand and I imagine it's funny still living at my home with my parents and he worked at Boston market. And every now and then he'd come home after work with like extra corn bread that they were going to throw out our chicken and I thought. Wow this is so cool. We're getting my hair free chicken or free corn bread and put it in the fridge and I just under forget. He brought home this big ham one time and put in the freezer in my memory. I was like yeah sick when he got a huge ham. And we're putting in the freezer and this was free to like you didn't pay for. It's free it's stupid now. Remember that this tiny.

"Here's the other interesting thing. Most twenty eight day programs will run you somewhere between twenty five and fifty thousand dollars. We can care for a woman for one year with full room and board three males into snacks a day thirty hours of interventions a week transportation to and from doctors visits twelve. Step meetings in the evenings fulltime. Help for twenty four thousand dollars a year so we can provide a years worth of care for what most people pay for a month. This is fucking insane so that feeling always had in my gut that these thirty day programs were profiting off of my brother. Wasn't that far off. Base of course they're incentivizing relapse. That is a slam dunk of a business model but places like the women's home they are looking at long-term solutions. We develop something called the whole life model. We feel like the key to achieving and maintaining long-term stability and sobriety is making sure that every aspect of your life is whole in good shape because if if you're taking care of everything else but your body you're in constant pain or You have an unaddressed medical issue. It's going to throw you OUTTA WHACK. Same thing if your personal relationships if everything else is great but your personal relationships are stressed it's GonNa for you out of wack and all of those things can threaten your stability and sobriety so We really believe that. It's not just about somebody's disease. It is about the whole person. Yeah it seems like that's where the long term thing really comes into play too because if you're going to a twenty eight day program I'll tell you are. Women are just starting to wake up at twenty eight days. They're just starting the lights just starting to come back to their eyes and if we were to discharge them right at that point. I mean a lot of them wouldn't make it because you're just. You're just starting to get a sense of what life could be without substances. Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes. We have talked around this idea before but it's always so refreshing to hear it from someone who's working directly in the treatment. World Harris went to three thirty day programs and relapsed. Every single time the day he got out which leads me to believe. It wasn't enough Anna and her team recognize us. They recognize that twenty. Eight days is a flash in the PAN so if the lights are just coming back on at that point. What do these women see? Well here's what Maggie saw. There's hardwood floors. There's a beautiful patio. This cut a waterfall in the back. A Chapel and so I mean just walking around that property and thinking I'm GonNa be living here for the next year. It was a really great feeling. You know did you have any fears about long term treatment? Like when you're out the door and you're like all right I'm about to go into this place. Eighteen months. Yes it sounds so scary. Yeah like whenever people kept telling me he can go to the women's home you know but it's an eighteen month program. That just sounds like a million years but I had come to a point to where my life was no life. I had lost every single thing that mattered. Anything to me in my life. I realized I don't even know how to be an adult. I don't even know how to I. Don't even know what I like. I don't know what color I like. I couldn't tell you I like seeing movies. I couldn't tell you if I like reading books. I didn't know I don't know what things I like to do. Because for so many years my life was just getting in finding and using drugs. This is why twenty.

"So when you think about your last day of use what is that to you. My last day of using is my last day of Mike Shame you know I. That was my last day of being a shameful. That's what it is is left all the hurt that I put on people. You know that that was. That's one day. I don't WanNA relive actually I. My mom took me to go get it. She didn't know where she was taking me. My last day I use but I have my mom take take me. I told her I was going to go get some so boxing from a friend. Yes you don't even know this uh-huh I hope I'm saying is that's why I'm dead. I can't do that no more. You didn't know that Brittany You know though clue errands. Memory of his last day isn't so much about the drugs themselves. It's about what they were making him. Due to the people he loved and how that made him feel even now in this interview. Another lie is coming to the surface and he. It didn't want to do that anymore. So he enrolled in this outpatient detox program. An after twenty one days of going every single single day and tapering off with Methadone one dose at a time. There were no drugs in his system so a week after I did the twenty one day detox talks. I was off for a week I was sober for a week and then realize were you on the Methadone or were you know that's the detox. Oh I didn't get onto the maintenance program why I just thought I'd be able to do it. Oh Gosh they let you do that. They didn't make you didn't handcuff you. I know when you go in. They'll tell you. Hey so you know after the details you WANNA get all maintenance. They asked me a couple of times. And I'm thinking to my hand like now I'll be fine. You know But I wasn't do you hear the sheer terror in my voice. I mean I felt like I was watching a horror movie and like screaming at the Rotunda. And it's no ooh stop. Don't go in the house. Look behind you. I mean if you've listened to the other thirteen episodes of this show you know that Aaron probably probably doesn't stand a chance of staying sober if he goes from oxy to Methadone to nothing but he's a grown man. The clinic couldn't handcuff him to the radiator or or shove medication in his mouth against his will so Aaron walked out even more vulnerable than he was twenty one days before the first day I was like. Oh my gosh this. I don't know I'm supposed to do this. I thought it was going to be okay. You know but I got through it and only reason then why you is a toll myself a lot we tell ourselves arches do it. This one time. Yeah you being good you know you got it you know you got it under control you. You'll be you'll be okay you can do and I let myself go. Oh so Britney when you found out that he had in relapse were you angry. How did you feel I was angry and upset? It was the week before our one year anniversary. And I was like. You're doing so good. I ponder trip. I primed weekend getaway for us like we had a babysitter. We were going to go away. And then I was like well we're not going because we're not going to celebrate that we didn't. I was devastated. I was like every time every time. I want to find something nice and that was like the the routine like whether it was a birthday or you know something like every time he he would use and then I would get mad and then like never mind. I don't WanNa do it. 'CAUSE WE'RE NOT GONNA have fun anyway. We did not celebrate our one year because of that knowing that I like okay well you need to go get on that maintenance like yeah you need you need. So we went. We went I went with him to the clinic. And this is when the real work began in a narrative sense sure there was the ugly nights and the call to Logan and the twenty one day detox talks and the slip but the works started after all that and is still ongoing having to do what it takes to maintain tain sobriety and this looks different for every person remember Dr Harrison from episode six and her magic formula that it's totally subjective case by case thing for each individual and that it's contingent on a wide variety of factors..

"Mom's house and she's thinking to herself like if the car's there then I know he's there if not then what an FA. I'm just whatever Out like you. I'm going to call you so you're not coming back home so then I make a right turn down the random Ronda Rousey drives right by me. I see the car and I like Easter rolled down the window and smoke comes out my mouth. Yeah I was supposed to come back home home. I'm like Oh great right. She's like bring the keys to the house and that's it like just give me the keys. Leave the car. Go to your mom's right so I do that. I gave her the keys and I realized I got my drugs in the car. She locks the door right. Ah I I'm cool. I'm like should take the keys. I'm out hit me Shit. I left my stuff in the car now begging her. You're just gave me the keys. I need to get some stuff car I got. I left my work keys in the car. Right left work keys in the car. She's like no. I'm not giving you the keys I know you just you just WanNa give whatever it is but I'm telling you is my work. He saw were going at it. And Thou's Louis crying. All I cared about at that time with everything going on was I just WanNa get my stuff core. You know and I could see it in in his like he did that night you he looked like a different person like I east look like a different person to me like. I didn't know who that person was at that point like you. You know it's like I lost you you know like how am I ever going to get you back. It's really terrifying. To look at your person and see not that their bodies there but that their spirit.

"Last year we tried to figure out how we got here. How are brothers? Stefano Harris overdosed and died in their early thirties. How America has gotten to this point where we've lost four hundred thousand people to opioids since nineteen ninety nine and how my partner Justin I are now making a show about it? I feel like we have already climbed Mount Everest. But we're not done on. The first half of the season was about reshaping the way we talk about an understand addiction. We built this working vocabulary. Cabbie Larry introduced the key players and established important themes you've graduated from addiction studies one. Oh One and now now that we have this new framework. We're ready to turn our attention to other people's last day stories and that doesn't just mean last day of life that means like you heard on top from Dr. Charlie resnick off the last day of use and all the stuff that accompanies that this week. We are talking to a couple who are working through the early days of recovery which is exciting and scary and in the case of Aaron and Britney also very adorable we met in in high school through mutual friends I was hanging out with a couple of friends and one of my boys house in. She wrote up on the black because her frame was dating one of my friends in love at first sight. What's the pulled? Ah Backseat. I'm curly hair and I'm like okay. She's cute and so anyways I ended up getting a number called her a house phones at that time. Her Dad answered the phone when I called and he actually gave it a fall and he wasn't even Serbian. Yeah and it's Kinda just went off from there so was it love at first sight for you to print it. It was it was it was 'cause I mean you're the cutest that's right okay But no I mean yeah like I don't know I don't know what it was. He was just so energetic and like full of life and just like the life of the party. I guess I don't know if that's what attracted me but you know we. We spent a lot of time together like as kids and just growing up been going through different life experiences fifteen sixteen. Yeah but we're not going to tell our kids that love of it Brittany Erin dated for a few years which were filled with all the excitement and passion and drama that comes with your first love. They broke up for a while after high school but Erin knew she was the one so he made sure to stay close by like even even the whole time we were broken up and like he was always around like him and my dad were close cousins like he never really left the family and you know so then we yeah we just fell back in love after our date or one day and then yeah and then we had is lear son and then we. We had emmy our daughter three years after we got married just last year in. May congrats. Think he'll yeah. Wow how was the wedding. I enjoyed it I would hope everything went well. It was fine. It was fine at first. I thought that that awkward little pause was just Erin tiptoeing around the stress that accompanies any wedding families budgets families months of planning families. Elise what have you. But then it became pretty obvious that they were dealing with something far more complicated. The day of the wedding wedding was was great. BA- leading up to it was Kinda rough say Obviously leading stress the whole planning and then with the drug use That was you know a lot of its who it was. It was a roller-coaster almost counseled it. To be honest. We almost council the wedding. Because I was like I don't know if this is the right thing. I'm doing the right thing you know. Should we move forward with it but then ended up. We ended up moving forward with it. Yeah you know I you know I felt bad. 'cause I was at the time I wasn't sure if I was going to ever be able to Stop using you know I. I didn't know how it was gonna be able to do it and I just I you know I fell fell bad thinking about but it was gonna be like for her. Being with someone like myself it was connolly living you know a whole nother. Life wasn't suited for marriage. This whole other life that he's talking about at first when I asked him he said it started six years ago but six six years lastly six years Vast along has been where I guess I knew was a real problem. That has been a real issue..

"On today's show to legal battles over voter. Roll purges and some headlines Lines but first Boeing is back in. The News at first story is a follow on something. We've been covering as we all know. Bowing his head several problems which I think is putting it lightly in the past last year and a half following crashes the company 737 Max Model planes that left nearly three hundred and fifty people dead Boeing CEO testified before Congress. Back in October in the questioning took the company to task for overlooking the software system that was responsible for those crashes. Yeah so the news. Today is that Boeing announced. It will halt production of the seven thirty seven. Max Exchequer Liners next month. They continued to manufacture the planes even as they were grounded by the FAA after the crashes. The hope that Boeing was that they would soon be able to get regulators leaders to sign off on a fixed and get the plane back in the air this year. Which I think is pretty optimistic link to say the least really think we're all just chomping at the bit to get on those planes? I'm good so yeah Boeing's now halting production It's a pretty big deal for travelers of course but this is also having a major impact on Boeing the company and there could be ripples more broadly throughout the economy overall. Now a little background on the seven thirty seven. It's the best selling model in the history of the company. Actually and Boeing has lost a quarter of its value since March with share prices. Down Twenty five percent in thousands of buildings workers. Make these planes and Boeing said. It's going to redeploy them so no lay-offs or furloughs yet and there's also hundreds of companies that that supply parts for the Max and so they could also be affected by the decision. Especially if Boeing can't figure this how quickly and production was halted for a long time. Yeah and also just to give a sense of scale so commerce secretary will Ross told CNBC way back in August the problems. uh-huh with the seven thirty seven. Max Had Been Big enough to shave zero point four percent off the entire. US Gross Domestic Product during the summer months. The number is pretty pretty abstract. Like when I hear your point what does that mean But if this was based off of Twenty eight GDP of twenty trillion dollars that means that eighty billion dollars. We're we're lost. That's pretty substantial. I think so secretary Ross also said that. He expected an uptick when the problems were fixed but now that they're halting production it. Doesn't you know it's pretty unclear win or whether you know it'll ever we'll ever see that the numbers going back. Yeah but this is good news for the real human beings that would otherwise be flying on these. Planes It Boeing statement. Yesterday they said quote safely returning the seven thirty. Max To service is our top priority. They also said they want to quote ensure that our regulators customers and the flying lying public have confidence in the seven thirty seven Max updates. We remain fully committed to supporting this process and they better be getting on that Shit. The company says it will take take until at least two thousand twenty one to deliver all the jets built since the grounding back in March. There's a big backlog I and obviously airlines can't logistically or financially except hundreds boards of new planes all at once which you know obviously Regulators also have to inspect each aircraft which will inevitably add that delay. There will certainly be more news on this front. In January with billing announces its earnings for the last three months of two thousand.

That's hellofresh dot com slash last day eighty and enter last day. Ah Eighty we're back. I'm Stephanie Woodall's Wax and this is last day. The next part of the day is mostly unknown. I tried calling flacco but the numbers no longer in service we know he got an uber or a ride home. He walked up the cement steps of his apartment. Building up his second floor apartment. We think flacco or someone came there came to his office and brought him heroine which ended up being one hundred percent feno page was at work. She'd been working as a counselor with psychiatric patients and like you do. She'd sent stuff a couple of texts in the afternoon just checking in no answer another text no answer before. I came home like an hour or so before I was supposed to leave. I was like trying to call him training text him like he wasn responding. You know it was probably like nine or ten or so like 'cause I haven't heard from him all day which was like sorta weird but then again it's not completely unheard of in especially you know if he had been using drugs like. I didn't know what he was doing. That's when Thursday get the feeling that something might be wrong. Stephanie had been trying to get sober for a while he'd been getting injections of a drug called Vivid troll. It's an inhibitor. It basically stops you from feeling the high. If you use soap yards before the vitriol Steffano had tried inpatient treatment he tried outpatient tried suboxone and other medically assisted ways to stay stay clean. He'd been struggling with addiction for ten years. His family thinks it started with recreational drugs in high school and college. Maybe baby adderall maybe other stuff definitely pot and they think around two thousand nine he started on prescription drugs painkillers he was working as a sales rep for pharmaceutical company just found out in two thousand nine when she had to get the State Department to pull him out of a trip to China with his MBA program at Hofstra. He called their mom panicking from the top of a skyscraper Guangzhou. Here's their mom Doreen Green. I think at that point is using oxy and he called me and he was on the ANA balcony and said a imam. I can't move. I just can't move and I can't talk and I don't. I'm afraid and I don't want you to get off the phone and AH don't want you to tell anyone obviously she did. Tell someone jess and together are they got him home. No one knew at the time but he was in withdrawal from prescription opioids when he got back. They did the a full on cable. TV style intervention then Rehab. He checked himself out after a day then relapse rehab another relapse Marie Hab Relapse his wedding just mentioned used. We use that day although she didn't know it at the time you enjoy the wedding yeah. It was really fun. It was a good time was he using even use using heroin at your wedding before yes like the hours before like days of Lake in our before probably he'd overdosed several times already. You know like usually I would be home but like dislike not paying attention doing something else like remember one time. I was doing my hair in my bedroom and then I came in the kitchen. He was just laying on the Lauren like I can see that a lot of kind of blue so I just like caught the Nar. Can that's a nasal spray to revive people who are overdosing and then he woke up and he was Ma because the narcan makes you feel like crap in you know it takes away the drugs so he was mad but I was turn to explain to him like I only did it because like I can tell that you're breathing was not there anymore. More like your lips are blue so like he kind of understood at that point but it's still far from I think what he would consider. Federa bottom 'cause like nothing in his life really changed like he would just wake up the next day and go back to work and everything will be fine but in October of two thousand seventeen he'd been on trial for a few months. He was working with an outpatient program in Boston getting the shot. That's what people call it being on the shot what it's supposed to last for thirty days but for some people at last twenty eight others thirty two just depends and not October the day he was due for a new shot he Bendu and he'd been trying to get it but the treatment center wouldn't give it to him in the clinic requires patients to attend therapy sessions in order to get the shot. They said he'd missed his therapy sessions. He said he was getting therapy elsewhere. They said it had to be there. Program by missing their sessions heat essentially flunked out of treatment and so they wouldn't give him the shot. We asked the clinic to talk to us for this podcast but they declined on the day he died. Stephanie was still trying to get his patrol in fact he actually told flacco the dealer that he wouldn't be hearing from from him again last time. I'll ever ask for this. I promise Stephanos Texted flacco that morning I get the shot on Wednesday two days later but that day that Monday he could get high feel the high but you know he'd been high before for a lot actually so when page couldn't get him on the phone. She wasn't panicked. She was worried and so like I was kind of just just like preparing myself just thinking in the back of my head like I wonder what I'm going to find but like it's probably nothing he is probably dislike like asleep or like on drugs when he lost track of this phone or like I kind of just had a feeling that he was on drugs. anyways is because but like obviously in anything she would. She drove home around ten. PM UP. The cement steps up to their second floor apartment. So then I walked in. It looked home. Hong on Salt Lake make hats ending up on the bed and on dislike looking at me and I didn't see him anywhere back on the bathroom door was locked so like I was knocking on the door in he wasn't answering and so. I got like a bobby pin to open a Bach in His body was pushed against the doors clean. We got in a really really hard. Then I got in in arms arms toy you just call nine one one. 'cause you tell he is dead yeah but it was still hoping that maybe he wasn't yeah so what did you did. You just have to stand I had to do. CPR It was just it was awful because he was like already. Steph page didn't know this then but Steffano. Oh hadn't shot heroin that day according to the Autopsy Report Stephan had Benzodiazepines Gabum Penton and fennel in his system benzodiazepines like Valium for example are typically used to treat anxiety alcohol withdrawal seizures. It calms the brain and the nervous..
