"He's going to join us, and we're going to get a perspective on the chief's going forward. And then at 1 30, we're going to speak a little bit of hockey. We're going to chat with our our good buddy Joe Yourdon, Hashtag noted, Jerk on Twitter He's on at 1 30. We'll talk some hockey then. At that point, But again, you can chat with us at any time this morning. 803 old 5 50 to join us 18885 50 to 5 50 Because I I'm really looking forward to getting on today. Talking football talking about This past game Ah, and also just getting the chance to also talk some hockey and really getting into an article that I wrote for the website yesterday. And this already driven some criticism on my part. Ah, and has also really riled up some people about what I wrote about and ah and Yeah, if you haven't read it, feel free to go check it out, but feel free. To also call with your thoughts, and I also want to talk today. Plenty about what? What this game means for the bills on Monday is this game I don't want to say it's almost a must win just because you know the Chiefs are one of the best teams in the NFL, and you're going to have to play one of the best teams. The Super Bowl champion Chiefs Patrick Mahomes is on the team. They're going to add love Ian Bell, although he's not playing this week, but he's going to be on the team and, you know, they just got so many other really, really talented pieces on that roster in Kansas City, and the Bills are gonna have a tough challenge. But Ah! You know, I'm not necessarily call this must win. Just because that If they lose, they fall back to foreign to you know, it is what it is. But you know, you definitely want to prove to everybody around the league that okay? Last week was just a fluke. It was a fluke game. It happens. Tennessee is still a good team. They've got a good defense in their offense. You know Derek Henry's obviously the Bell cow back that they have a ground and pound type of guy and Ryan Tannehill. Since joining the Titans has proven that Hey, I'm still of legitimate quarterback here, and I'm still able to carry my teams to victory. When when we need it most, and that happened last week in the bills. Obviously, injuries did not help and The team kind of laid an egg overall offensively defensively, even though Joshua and still looked relatively good, the team laid an egg, and the final result was 42 to 16, but we'll get your thoughts on last week's game. We'll get your thoughts on this upcoming game against Kansas City. But right now let's head out to the West. Her hotline is we'll bring in our own cell carpaccio who's down in Orchard Park. It won bills drive TTO take in this afternoon's practice sail. Good morning. Good morning. I'll be there in just a few minutes. So yeah. 11 30 Saturday practice, which is kind of different, obviously, but Saturday becomes a Friday when you play on Monday. Basically just kind of worked backwards. So yesterday was more like Thursday, Even though it was a Friday. That makes sense, so we'll have a quick quick practice today. We won't be able to watch much of it. I should say the media for me it's quick and but we already know that Dawson Knox has been ruled out of Monday's game. Sean McDermott met with us this morning via zone. Yeah, I was just about to ask that cell with just what Sean McDermott had to say this morning, you know, obviously Dawson Knox calf injury that he suffered against Tennessee. Really kind of bummed out about about that, because I was really looking forward to seeing how maybe Dawson Max would be utilized in a game like this against a Kansas City defense that you know, obviously there. The run defense has been great, but You know, I certainly think that the bills could utilize a player like Dawson Knox through the middle there in this game to really gain those short yardage plays there, But what else was it that what else was it that Sean McDermott said of any notice that that you took in this morning? Yeah. First law on the point, not I agree with you. I think that this is the kind of work I like. That could make a difference, right? But I think it was also have another title and tightened entire lacrosse you very similar. So I wonder how the cross could, you know, play a role in this game? Because this is going to be File A common should take more of a higher scoring game. I mean, the over under is the highest over 100 bills. History. 57 a half was amazing. So you never know you might be able to find that match up. Dawson knocks. I think an opportunity here not for him, but for Tyler Cross, so we'll see. Cars, everybody else. That's the only really negative news on the injury from everything else. Positive right now. Now we will get the final injury status of the week later say great, but it's looking good. I think for guys like previous white John Brown even met a lot of I thought we'd be on the show for a couple of weeks. No, he was a full participant in practice, not even wearing a red noncontact jersey. All of them, Sean McDermott said. We'll see about those guys everybody else on the roster, but I think it's trending really well for all those guys play and we will see later on today now. Remain. Edmonds was wearing a red noncontact er's, but somebody said, you know, it's just something you have to deal with all year. They're going to take it on a week by week basis the shoulder injury is dealing with, so you know, it's more precautionary than anything, but you still have to make sure you get through the week before he can officially say he can play on Sunday or Monday. Yeah, itself. Obviously, with the with the over under, you just mentioned being 57 a half. I mean, that's That's absolutely crazy. Just because both of these teams have had their offensive flashes in the defense's both defenses have been, you know, less than up to par this year, I guess with how they've performed, but This is this is something that I think that we haven't seen in a really long time in the first place is a matchup going into Ah, week where both teams are projected to put up these high offensive numbers and I was saying this early in the week on a local podcast that I was on that if this game features, you know, two teams that just came off of pretty bad losses against teams that they probably should have beaten the week before. They're going to go into Orchard Park this Monday and they're just they're just gonna look toe light it up. And if that's the case, I'm looking forward to seeing a game where both teams are putting up 30 plus points and maybe even getting higher like an offensive shootout. Which we haven't seen a buffalo since. I can't remember when No. I agree with anything that might slow down a bit is the weather. I've been pondering that I gotta be down there in the moat and you know, it's likely the chance of rain but still a chance of rain. Actually, Now I think it was more of a chance. Then what's yesterday? But we could see some rain and we'll see. Maybe that impact you scoring affair that we're gonna have are not gonna have, But you're right. I think this is a game that sets up to have Hey, look, You got a league MVP from a couple of years ago who became a school champion last year. A guy who in Josh Alan, and that was obviously Patrick home, Joshua playing. We can be the type of level this year and the way you've been kind of carrying the offense the way the bills have been scoring an attacking down the field. We saw what the loss of John Brown did to this team last week, and they weren't able to strike a much and is often down the field. But if John Brown can play, you know you saw what the Raiders did with Henry rocks behind the defence of the Kansas City Chiefs. And I think That's got to be in the bill's plan, got to be in their arsenal would be able to take the top off Chief defense attack down the field and let's face it. That's the Bills identity this year. We all know that I've got in anyway, he will be without Sammy Watkins. They still Tyree kill..

"Dak Prescott got hurt. He came back actually in the game. Dalton was in there for a little while for the bills. That was one injury yesterday of note. Dawson Knox. Concussion. That was the injury of note, so we'll see what happens. Going forward. Does Tyler Kroft have more of a role in the offense? I think that's the next question from Mike. Go ahead, Mike. I stole your thunder. But go ahead. What your question about Tyler Kroft? Long time. No talk, Sal, How are you? How are you, buddy? I'm very good, very good. So I had a question. You know, Obviously, Dawson has fighting some demons and having some challenges, Probably thinking way too much about it is he's trying to catch a ball. Bills. I know Bill signed Crawford a lot of money and restructured him in the offseason. But, you know, for a guy your pain, almost $45 million a year. He doesn't even get on the field. Um, I just missing him. No, He didn't play much yesterday until after through the first two weeks. He hasn't played much. Let me get his snap counts yesterday. This is all by the way. Dawson Knox. Remember? I just said Dawson accent concussion yesterday. So Croft came in, and he played more. He had 51% of the snaps. He was on the field for 31 snaps, but a lot of that was after. I believe Dawson Knox got her here is, I think the bottom line that's what happened. The Bills drafted Tyler Kroft, believing in hoping he could stay healthy and be a big part of their offense. They I'm sorry they signed him to a free agent contract. Yes, they gave him some money. But then they didn't realise Dawson Knox was going to be the type of player he wasn't sure, he said his drops. He's been inconsistent in that regard, but I think Because they signed cross before they drafted knocked. You know, when the NOX basically showed up, and you know, as as the as the two seasons have gone on here, they've realized they're just in better hands at the tight end spot with Dawson knocks on the field and, Yeah, sure they gave Tyler Kroft the money. Remember what they did, though They shortened his his contract by a year on the restructure, So after this year, they're not on the hook for him anymore, anyway. Your good Is that good? Is that your question? No, No, that's good. I see Another question. Yeah, Good. Just wondered if you had any update on Milano or Edmund. I don't will get more updates from Sean McDermott today. Obviously, you know, we'll see where this goes. The bills need them back. But stay tuned today at four o'clock. Sean McDermott will update us on and injuries. Thanks. All right. You're welcome. Let's go out to Ben in Chicago. Haibin, You're on wdr Bass. Thank you for taking my call. First. Let me preface my question by saying just something personal towards you about a year and a half ago. You I had said something me and you didn't see eye to eye on something. And I said something derogatory on Twitter and two weeks before the season started you on block to me, and it was I went out there. I said, thank you. And I just want to personally say thank you for doing that. Because if I wasn't able to have conversations with you on Twitter some during this time for something that I did, stupidly I would have just regretted it for rest of my life. Well, no, first of all, then let me let me jump in. First of all and say this. I don't know you personally, but a couple of things here. First of all, thank you for saying that, but None of us are perfect. I am certainly not. I've made my mistakes. I could. I have been a jerk, sometimes on social media to people I've tried to be. I've tried to not be, You know, I mean, we just sometimes it gets the better of us. Our emotions get the better of us. That's what happens even on the radio talking people. So maybe I did something to make you you'll be offended or want to do that. So I'll apologize in that regard, and the other point is A while back. What I did was I went back and I had like about 50 60 People block just for whatever reason. I just don't block everybody and said, Let's all be nicer to each other, So I think that's what we're trying to do. Anywhere And that's a step in the right direction. No matter what we would disagree or agree on. We could always, you know, have a civil conversation about it. I think the world needs more of that cell become to you, buddy. Thank you very much. My question is, how is You know, without Edmonds in mulatto earlier in the week, McDermott said, specifically and I can not exactly quoting, but he said it would be premature to think about bringing in Lorenzo Alexander back. Well, let's remember. He was asked specifically about it. It wasn't unprompted, someone said to him. Would you think about bringing Lorenzo Alexander back? And he was specifically answering that question? I don't think he would have even ever uttered those words. He wasn't asked. Right? Well, exactly right. So he was asking me when his answer was that he was, you know, it would be a little bit too premature question Is this after yesterday's performance, and the defense obviously dot sending them a couple steps back from Murano Edmunds? Do you think that McDermott will now entertain that? I mean so was ready to go. I I is he ready to go? I don't know. I mean, he's doing radio he's doing TV is doing a lot of stuff. I mean, he'd have to He. I don't think he's come out and said, Hey, I want to come back right now. I think he made a comment in the off season about I'll be ready if they need me and I don't know if that was tongue in cheek. You know, Lorenzo is living a good life right now, and he's talking football doing what I'm doing here out in Arizona. I believe it is, And I'm not sure it takes two to tangle. But I think the overall quite answer the question has been, it still would be premature. They're going to get Edmund's Milano back. The question is when, and I think they're very comfortable with that. And I don't know if Lorenzo would want to play again. To be honest with you. I mean, that's up to him. Maybe, but I don't know if the situation or timing would be right. Well, let's hope that we don't need it. You know, That's exactly right. That's exactly right. Right. But you know, after what Alan did yesterday, and kids being that defense, I mean, it's just I had filled watching that game. So we haven't seen something like that. I've been a bill stand since 87 here in Chicago. I haven't seen anything like that Dude since Bledsoe. You know what I mean. And it's just the way that we're going with that offense, so the way that table opened it up. I don't get home man is that it makes me it was unbelievable. I was worried that before the game started about missing Edmund's Murano, and they were able to attack that one guy second, So let's hope that you know, we could tighten that up this coming week. So God bless you, buddy. Thanks for taking my call. If you listen to them as you do a great job. Thank you, Ben. I appreciate the kind words from earlier. Really do thank you means a lot to me. You know, As I've said, I've said it before. Last year, I had a thing on this program That was last year minimum two years ago. Whatever it was Where I kind of I kind of jumped on someone. I was a little bit rude. I got hammered on social media for it. I felt horrible about it, because, as I say all the time, it's live radio and your emotions get you and you say something you shouldn't know or On social media. You tweet back something you should and I'm not perfect, and I've done that. But I try to be nicer Sometimes. Now I just killed people with kindness. That's what I do. That's what I do. Someone comes at me. They're insulting or jerk and I try to be nice and kind to them and say, Come on, let's be nice to each other. So I just unlocked a lot of people a while ago. If you were blocked, maybe run block Now, if you're not I don't know to tell you. Maybe you were really, really, really mean to me. 80305 50 is the phone number. We got to get to sit up, Stand down and hey, buddy, So let's let me prepare that. But first before we do that's going to Mike in north China. "What do you think? I agree? I agree. He and the catch is he made were timely. His ability to do it at the right time, in a moment when this team needs him, too. It was evident in week one. And once again he showed up a big first down conversion along the sidelines, where he skidded across the bench. Airy ended up under the bench of the huge conversion on that drive, then, of course. Touchdown early on to give him the lead got postgame coverage coming up. We'll hear from the Bills locker room from John McDermott and Josh elements of her leathers. We'll hear from show up with a bulldog taking your phone calls. Um, I don't I don't think the bill send any significant injuries right? They can't think of any injuries. Dawson Knox That's Russian concussion for Dawson knocks They played and won this game without their two best linebackers, too. And you know the defense wasn't great, but they stopped him when they had two today and you wonder I'll be anxious to see you know and hear from the players about how much they missed how much this was had to do with the absence of Jermaine Edmonds. Oh, and Matt Milano now, Certainly they probably down play, but I think the players will tell you The team. They gave up 28 points, too, and I think they'll be pretty disappointed in that in that performance. Well, we got a great crew here today is on as it was working the way we did. I mean, I don't even want to think about what we had to put up with here today with our TV feed and the TV truck going without power for a while and then a half hour lightning Delinda. Don't I don't want to talk about because it builds what I want to thank our great for our spotter Mark Murphy. "Come when the quarterback turns his back to the defense last ball. I wanna ask you about the wooden amore traditional Josh Allen Play action scheme be more of what Kevin Stefanski and the Browns did all on Thursday night. I would say That's definitely the traditional sense. And that's definitely the Kubiak. Ah, you know, zone read where you know a play action. Looks like his own Reed. I think the thing about that I really like about this pistol formation is the running back is still and both guys are smaller than Josh Ellen. So when they sit behind Josh Ellen in the shocking in that pistol formation They do tend to get lost a little bit behind Alan and one of the things that I like about their play action. Is there play action, the RP? Oh, game the read option. It all looks the same. And when you're a defense when you're a linebacker and its third and five And they're going to pull out a play action on your own are Po or a read option. You try to tell me which one they're doing, because it's disguised very, very well. From that formation. The ball is in the same position every time it looks like read option. It looks like our P O. So the thing that I like about it is the Brian tables, ability, disguise things, and it all looks the same. And to me that makes it very difficult to defend. If you're If your shack Lawson today, right and you're or you're a linebacker, right? And your job is to make sure that you get back in your zone. Well, a couple of times. Those linebackers were just caught an absolute binds last week, because I mean, if if they all look the same Jeremy, how are you supposed to defend a pass when it looks like a read option, but it's a play action pass. You know what I mean? And or how do you defend a read option If the read option looks like a play action or the read option looks like an r P O. They all sort of go off of each other and look a lot alike, And I think that's a huge advantage for this offense because You know, Joshua and I didn't think played a particularly well game in the read option game last week. I think for the most part, the Jets did a by the book job defending slow playing, drawing out stringing out those read option plays, and every time Josh on pulled, there was immediately a guy in his face and every time he gave that slow playing read Guy basically made the play every time so I thought the Jets did a fantastic job against the read option. I don't suspect Shaq, Lawson and this are Kyle Van Noy that two guys it'll be on the outside during this game should have the same level of success. They really struggled in the read option game last week against Cam Newton. 80305 50 to join us in 185 50 to 5 50 to be a part of the show. Have a conversation with us. We'd love to have a conversation with you and asking you basically what it is. What's your objective for weak too? Of course, the wind and then what else? What's the other thing? You're looking for the offense or the defense, minus Edmonds and Milano. What you looking for out of this team. Maybe it's Tyler Bass to hit a couple of kicks and not kick one over the top of the upright. Whatever it is, give us a call later. 305 50 in 185 50 to 5 50 on that read option thing. You know, Miami. It's a tough one. Nate. Opening day I mention this during the week Opening day means you on Lee put 60 minutes of hopeful on tape and as far as the football world knows, that's who you are right. There's no preseason, especially so this year. There's no preseason. So what you did in week. One is who you are and for the Dolphins, like you said Cam Newton was able to run on them, and the Patriots were able to kind of cruise to 21 11 win. So the Dolphins defense was beaten in the read option game. Their offense couldn't get much going. Fitz didn't have a great day. The only thing that makes me a little bit nervous about the Dolphins and their defense is that I think it could still be good off all the match ups you could possibly not want in week one. Wouldn't you pick Bill Belichick with a new quarter percent like you not only a new quarterback, but He had Brady for 20 years you had even though you know, Brady and Belichick beat a lot of teams. You had 20 years of tape of what they do. And Cam Newton goes to New England and it becomes Well. What do we think they're going to do? We have no idea. There's no preseason, There's nothing and the Patriots rolled out there looking like maybe not quite Navy, but you know, they have, like 12 tight ends to the line of scrimmage. And ran nude. Not of these formations that look like they were out of the dark ages in terms of like, run, smash mouth football and worked, so it does interest me. You know, you're talking about the read option game of the Patriots and how that worked. The Bills run a very different one. Right there. Running out of 44 receiver sets an 11 personnel. And it's had a mercenary. What? They ran a lot of 10% last week, and you know for me. I think that's really interesting. The fact that the bills weren't able to find success in the run game there if they're going to run a lot of 10, which, by the way, Ted means there is no titan in the field. Dawson Knox played the most out of any tight end only played 60% of the snaps. So at times when I really liked was Dawson Knox sort of lining up in Patrick to Marco's position. He is far more athletic than the Marco was he I would probably argue, is the same level blocker. And now Briand able gets to match up. Dawson knocks inside the box against linebackers. So first and foremost, that's a really nice development to what they've this office doesn't have. AH, quote unquote fullback anymore, but they're moving. Dawson knocks around in a lot of different positions that should give them a lot of advantageous looks and matchups, but the 10 personnel thing To me having four receivers and only one running back on the field. You're going to get a lot of Todd Gurley boxes and what I mean from that is Todd Gurley in 2018 when he had his breakout season he was facing, You know, five man boxes more than anybody in football because they were running 10 personnel and what you gonna do? You're not gonna line up five defensive back, So you're not gonna have 56 defensive backs in the field to cover for Reid. Receivers of the bills, especially Like a guy like Isaiah McKenzie, who is going to be moving. You know, horizontally along along the line of scrimmage. It's going to be really difficult for teams to cover the bills and stop the run game. If the Bills confined success in 10 personnel they didn't last week. I got to expect that they have more luck it this week, especially against five man boxes. Yeah, that's what Singletary got a lot. I don't know about five men. I only know that percentage of eight man boxes, but you're right. Like what they try to do with Rams Do Is what they have done in the past. I'm not so sure that Sean McDaid is doing it the same way was recently reading how he's basically McVeigh used to use a lot of motion and then teams figured out how he was using it. Now he's trying to use it differently. It's fun. It's a cat and mouse game, right. But Singletary what I'm getting back to the bills here. Singletary had a lot of Good. I would say, like good boxes. The percentage of eight man boxes Singletary face last year was leased in the league. The Bills put him in good spots. A lot of good Ryan looks right. Yes, he was not. Stack boxes running into a brick wall. That's what Frank or did you know? Formation dictates that a lot and as we talk about the 10 personnel in the 11 personnel, and if the Bills finished the season number one in 10 and 11, I'm going to guarantee you that They're running backs are going to finish near the top of league in fewest stack boxes. You know, it's just like it's the way that it works. Question is, Can they exploit that? You know, Can they get that going and Neither one of these guys is said to be a real burner. So the way the bills running game is going to try and hit. I think you know, I wouldn't be expecting the Derrick Henry 87 yard once he gets through, like you're not tackling him, because a he's too fast and B..

"To find not only one, but probably to mash up advantages. That he really likes against any given opponent in any given week and his and you know his His scheme and his use of personnel groupings will change accordingly. Week to week. I don't think there's any debate about that. We knew their bread and butter was the 11 personnel package with one tight end and one back in the three wides. That's a really attractive looking formation now as the depth charts currently, well, not as the depth charts currently constituted, as the rosters currently constituted, because I think everybody's expecting that Stefan Diggs, John Brown and cold easily or the top three receivers on this roster. And then I mean, unless it changes and Tyler Kroft lights the world on fire, I think everybody You know, outside Observer Wise is thinking that Dawson Knox is going to be the primary playmaking tight end. And then you have Devon Singletary in the backfield, So that's a heck of a quintet right there. But as you said, you can just just Aziza Lee. See them going heavy personnel, you know, put DeMarco in the backfield with Zach Moss. Lee Smith up a tight end put a second tight end on the field, whether it's Sweeney or knocks or Croft Sweeney Cross. You know, and just leave digs out wide and say, Well, you still got to respect that guy. But we might, you know, punch in the mouth with what we're going to throw at you now, Right? We'll take our Yeah, we'll go. Nine on nine. Down inside the line of scrimmage will go is kind of muscle up and go, you know? Yeah, That's all That's a possibility. Go 11 personnel, which is one running back one tight end 12 personnel, which is one running back too tight End's 22 personnel to backs to tights. 23 personnel, which is short yardage goal line, two running backs and three tight ends and you may use you know, a tackle is one of your tight ends. That's right, so backup tackle I really feel like it's it's going to be a different year for this bill's offense. I don't know what that means. It's going to be You know what statistics or was going to look like or how it's going toe evolved, but I think, Andi, I think the coaching staff I think we're in the early stages of just finding out which guys Khun, do What Right now They've got it and I don't think it's a question. Zack Moss gave Davis A J. Open. AZA go down the list of these young players and 1st 1st year players like Quinton Jefferson and Mario Addison and all these guys, they're they're still trying to find out what these guys bring to the table and how it meshes with the guys that they're counting on the guys that are already here that they're counting on and know what they could do. I just think The thing that's good. Getting buying. A lot of fans is because you kind of focus on your own team, but for me I think week one of this regular season coming up. Is going to be an absolute shocker. For a lot of fans and a lot of come across the league across the league. There is so much uncertainty and lack of knowledge about what other teams are doing or what they're going to look like that you don't know anything. There's no scouting reports. There's no film, There's nothing Every team in the league has put feathers on the local media not to talk about depth charts and rotations and all that. They're not allowed to report on any of that stuff. And so there's Coach and Sean McDermott has said. He's listen. There's always a really huge amount of uncertainty on week one anyway. This year. Oh, it's through the roof. You don't even know You have no idea what that other team is going to line up. And that isn't that's extremely unusual for NFL teams. Maybe it happens in college quite a bit. Why you get a team that comes out and beat keep each of 51 to nothing on opening day. You have no idea what they're going to look like. You have no idea what they're good. They're good players are who you have to worry about. I think that week one in the NFL is going to be an absolute shocker. "Earlier this afternoon, Dawson knocks a second your tight end for the Buffalo Bills in his second training camp Coming in. We met with the Western New York media. We're going to take Some time out to listen to a large chunk of that interview. Here's Dawson Knox Buffalo Bills tight end in the Western New York media. The addition of Stefan Diggs seems to make Everyone in the hostel a little bit better question. So what? What are your impressions of, you know, kind of being around him and seeing seeing him work? I mean, it's been awesome. Ever since we're out of Miami training together. Um, now actually been in the building together, spent cool kind of getting to know him off the field a little bit, but also just You know the way he works, You know, he's Ah workhorses out there grinding just as hard as everybody else and seeing him run some routes like I've already tried to start picking up some certain things that he does well running rows just like to do it myself In a lot of times, you know, it's Very difficult, but it's just impressive Watts and obviously everybody's really excited to have him in the huddle with us. Quick follow up a little bit the expectations for yourself. I know outside of the building. The experts seemed to think that Dawson Knox is gonna have a big year. Um what? What are your What are your expectations for yourself? What did you go into the offseason? Kind of looking to do and improve on Yeah. So you know, I thought you're one was You know, it was a tough year Just because it was, you know, first year in the league, trying to keep my head above water kind of fuck. Ours is treading water. Old time. Um and finally, towards the end of the season, I thought I was able to kind of start playing faster. Not really. Thinking about where I'm lining up in what I'm looking at three snap and more just playing freely. But this offseason I've you know how to judge machine the whole time. I was working on the hands and some of the easier catches where I would start looking downfield before I secured the ball away. That was a big emphasis for me, but Also, I'm really excited having the same playbook with Dave all and just the same connections like on the offense with Josh. I was with him. Tons of, you know, we had several throwing sessions during the off season. S O. Just continuing to work on that chemistry and kind of Just building on everything we did last year. I'm really trying to see what you know. This year is gonna be like a select, You know, I'm ready to make a big leap. Next. Awesome. Stay say Yeah, thanks. Appreciate it. 1000 John Scott. Good to see you as going good. Good. I wanted to kind of see if you could expand on last year and drops were an issue on what were some of the things that you did this offseason to try to You know, Shorten up that that little blip on your your season? Yeah, it was mostly just training my eyes like it was realised. There were a few of most of the issues I had were on the easier balls of Josh would put a you know a great ball right on my chest. No, I kind of already be looking to make someone miss before I secured that, so it's kind of just going back to the basics. Trying to my eyes to the Tuck, Um, had a jug machine all offseason, which was great, and obviously getting together with Josh a lot. Help there, too. So I think you know I'll be prepared and ready. The yoga studio. One. Quick follow up. What is your reaction to knowing that, in short orders to fund digs, is already referring to you as Mr stiff arm. So that's what he's already He's going. We better go about in the locker room. I mean, you know any compliment from him. I'll take that denies. You know, I'll see how that goes this hearing into Another some pressure and you've got to keep it up then, right? Yeah. No, I know I can't be letting him down with that one. Now I gotta we got some pressure on me. Hey, thanks a lot. Appreciate it. So Mr stood firm. Good morning Harkins Workforce words today T. Um, you know, availability. Grove consistencies. Those are some of the three things coach McDermott spoke of recently. So what have you done to? Ah, address those things. Yeah, just like our kind of mentioned is going back to some of the basics when it comes to catching and man is working on fundamentals all offseason. Obviously, the off season was a lot longer than everybody plans. So there's some Extra time there for me to work on some specific things that I wanted to do on even blocking wise. I want to get better and pass protection. I kind of want to be ableto be out there and do whatever they need me to dio and I don't want to be a guy that has to take off when they run certain packages. Um, so I kind of wanted to just work on all areas of my game, making a little bit more well rounded and just work out some of the consistency things with catching the ball, which I think was Great to me and Josh were able to get together some Western all Susan Okay, So what that being said. We also know that tied in is a quarterback's best friend. When Artie's new additions, you know, Do you feel that you what do you got to do to make sure that you maintain targets this year? Um, you know, I think you know I haven't stepped there on the outside. You know, I think that's gonna open up the middle for me a lot. So hopefully you know, because defense is going to respect him and obviously with smoke and Cole I mean, are receiving core is going to be special. So it's gonna be really fun to watch those guys and, you know, hopefully sometimes I get a little check down ball here and there, but there's also gonna be a good place. Where about You know, down the field number one or two in the progression, So I think it's going to be similar to last year but also were thrown in some, you know, King sharing their that I'm excited about Smoke fire, Mr Stiff arm sauce. I love it when you see it on the field, man. Good luck this year. Can't wait. Appreciate it. Hey, Dawson map Torino Syracuse dot com. How are you? Good. I want you good man. I'm good. It's it's cool that you mentioned the time that you spent with Josh and some of the insight that he gave you because I feel like it's a It's a comparable situation when he came in. He talks so much about, like, just getting thrown into the fire and having a kind of deal with figuring things out on the fly. What are some of the things that he shared with you in your time together? That kind of help you feel more prepared and more confident in here, too? Yeah, So obviously you know the title and I don't have as much to worry about his quarterbacks to. I can't even imagine you know his job he has to deal with, But, um, he's you know, off the field. We just talked about kind of just trusting the same process that we're about to start again going into camp, learning a few plays a day. Just kind of putting those in the back pocket as we start working on the place, and you know if we worked on 10 plays yesterday, put those behind and start working on the 10 today and then just kind of building brick by brick kind of a good foundation of, you know, getting the timing right with Josh down the field and kind of learning the playbook again, as if you know is the first time kind of reworking some of the fundamentals and kind of seeing the whole concept. Which, for me is the thing that's really helped knowing where I am and progression. So you know if I'm if I'm the third guy he's gonna look at. I don't want to be open to soon or he's gonna miss me. So you know, just some little little things that are easy to work on. Your to that, you know, would have been hard to get to on your one when I'm trying to learn the whole play Buck, you know, from the from the start, so I'm really excited to see how that's gonna go this year. Thanks, man. Appreciate it..

"They make mutual decisions, ignore the analytics together like the Falcons are a good example of that second group, and then there are teams to actively. He's analytics at their decisions, and actually in terms of physicians in the Ravens, Eagles are are pretty much at the top of the list to teach you mentioned other teens in that group for for twenty twenty. I would say probably the Browns, the colts, dolphins and patriots come to mind like the other fourteen. Who's actually using analytics? I probably go though sixteen suspect a core of the. NFL, yeah, and this is the kind of things. I liked to be high on like I think every night. Both dolphins are doing it the right way from the top down yeah, I, I think when you're making bats and putting money down, I want to be on the side of the smart teams so I think that makes a lot of sense I. appreciate you sharing, you think those are Evan any other teams. You think are doing a good job with analytics that you've actually noticed on the field. A bears just crushing it. Second. The forty niners I think using analytics a little bit more than maybe they are giving credit for or more than they let on. The bills I think are building their team analytically and I was ser-, I was down on on the bills, new regime initially, but I have really come around on it. I liked it they are. Realizing Josh, Allen is flawed, player does have some great characteristics and. was the worst fall passer in the NFL, what do they? Do They GonNa get the best deep ball receiver to? Try like elevate his game I mean his game did elevate last year when they poured a bunch of resources into the offensive line, John Brown and Co and Cole Beasley and I think. Dawson Knox is a really interesting athlete with the chance to make a second year leap but I. They're building their team analytically. If they're. Making their decisions, no wholesale based on on on on analytics, but I do think they're building analytically and then the cowboys I think are actually one of the foremost teams that utilizes analytics in. I think that they've sort have been that for a long time. You can tell that they. There's a certain profile of athletes that they're looking for in the draft and they've done very well in the draft. y'all fire, the heartache cannon. I may not even a hot date, but despite the addition Cam, Newton, I do think the bills still win the AFC. Eastern and we'll see what happens there, but I think you can get a bill is a pretty good price now in the wake of the area around Cam Newton Okay. Let's go to another question about the NFC. East from Anthony Lawson says, do you guys think Dallas goes more spread this year with coaching change, and the addition of CD, lamb, or Or. Do you think we continue to see more pro sets obviously Jason? Garrett's gone as where you mentioned Mike. McCarthy's in my McCarthy has claimed that during his time away from the game. He has embraced analytics I. would note that Kellam more is expected to stay in the role of calling plays Dr theme means a lot, but yeah, what do you think Dallas is often hearing this? All the fantasy community is like literally falling over themselves to be on Dallas this year. Build you think that's warranted. I think it's warranted missiles eighteen. That was second offense of last year. I think a lot better than maybe people sort of give them credit for given. The actual Robert. Action wasn't always all that great. In terms of these spread the I don't think they're going to be doing it. That much more frequently. According the NFL's next Gen stats, they were gonNA live in personnel nearly sixty seven.

"The Bengals had taken that leaves bangles are up seventeen to fourteen the bills of the ball with less than five minutes up they've done nothing on offense Josh Allen throws the ball to a wide open Dawson Knox Knox takes it down inside the twenty five yard line and he has that play first of all the stadium erupted everybody saw the sideline was going crazy but also say this bulldog if he doesn't get those extra yards I'm not sure it'll get a touchdown they may have headed to overtime because he's the one that got them those extra yards to get closer they would've been down it may be the the thirty or thirty five yard line and they had kind of been struggling on offense in the second half and as it was it took down a third and goal at the one yard line finally punch yeah sounds about you on the western hotline with us here on WGR you know work we're just about out of time but I I there was one other thing I want to mention here and that was the report from Adam Schefter today regarding I I think it's not that big a deal I don't think the CBA now the changes have uniforms report date for training camps like everyone except for I think it's for teens are all going to get to training camp at the same time and I don't know I don't know how significant if at all that is but it's news of the week today I guess I yeah but what's weird is this was something was no one CBA came out I get when I remember when I was doing that one day which kind of went through everything with the CBA and yeah I don't I don't think there's any different I haven't read his report but I will tell you that it's basically forty seven days find the threads I actually wrote about it when I wrote a big long thread about it way back in March it is based here is reporting to training camp is what I wrote on March sixth reporter training camp is changing you should be all teams the players report fifteen days before the first preseason game now that only applies the hall of fame game teams all other teams are now forty seven days before their first regular season game in forty eight days of your own money that football so yeah I always thought it was weird that team got to start a week earlier than other teams and again unless I saw in Leicester something different from the chef report all he's doing is basically saying Hey this is what it says in the CBA forty seven data I look bulldog I think that puts us at July twenty fifth for most teams okay I I the twenty eighth is what he's saying okay here but I could see a yeah I don't see it as a call for the Steelers and there's hall of fame game and also like the Thursday opener I think is the other designation there for the chiefs and the Texans because they're the Thursday opener that's that there was also some news today about maybe the preseason getting chopped which I I have a feeling even though they released the schedule in their states and times and everything maybe we've all still it we kept kind of been I don't see expecting that but it certainly seems possible all along but they might cut preseason games I have always thought they could who knows you know when we talk to Sean McDermott last week he said as of now you know nothing's changed planning for everything but you know he also recognized that could change so who knows what it is and what they're going to do I've thought all along here that we could be looking at two preseason games if the data is you know trending towards they think they can even do that you know I mean who knows me maybe they eliminated all together but when the preseason came out along with the regular season schedule my thought was okay maybe we won't get that first game which is at Baltimore in that second game which is home I don't remember the call to the it's colts and falcons in that order but those would probably be the two games we might not see what you know we'll see where it goes it wouldn't surprise me if that happens at all all right sell thanks a lot for this you know its you know he would working mornings too so we appreciate you make some time for for us today and stay cool if you can although it's going to cool off here in the next twelve hours or anything but whatever get through the night is hot out it is super hot outside right it's like my my weather app when I opened it up about maybe three hours ago it said it has a feels like it said feels like ninety eight huh yeah today yesterday after the show I've I've I've been joined this I even played said yesterday or the day before I turn the TV on in more than a week as I get done with the shows I go downstairs I sit on the porch I have a beer and I play some guitar to sort of hang out and I've been eating dinner out there I'm just not in the house yesterday I think was was pushing it sitting out there because it was so hot today I just don't think I don't think it's going to be able to happen I think it's going to be just bloody yada thank yeah all right well you brought so state stay safe and keep your dogs safe as well after a the card we'll make sure we see Donovan with Freddie is I I talked about this last week with Mike one day that Fred Fred I think Fred is freaked out that we're all here all the time or that someone's always here right my wife's working you know the kids are in and out but mostly they're here and I'm here all the time and Fred is taken did not wanting to come back in when you let him out you want to call me you just got to open the door he comes running and now he sort of looks at you like then I'll be in the house of sick you and on a day like today that's worrisome because I I don't want to leave it out there for too long when it's hot it's not cool all right thank you buddy appreciate.

"Yeah has not Dawson Knox nope I say hurricanes you know not to go no Duke now do jobs in Tennessee Williams yeah you can see the jets jets now we came against the jets people yelling at the radio like yeah do planes eight somebody texted me Alex accident it was fun I enjoyed very go enjoy enjoy true all the one hundred yard receivers so you don't like the alphabetical clues you like that made it harder it really no I I think I'm with right now I think it's weird you would think that would make it a lot easier and then all of a sudden the limited range makes me freak out more all the letters should start flying you like rain right pictures okay well it's only K. L. M. N. and all of a sudden I go into like oh god what receivers didn't and it brought a thought Kelvin Benjamin but that's the first name but right yeah that was weird it's that was absolutely very very steady answer was molds and instead of all the letters it's just you didn't realize he was still here in two thousand five he's so he had the bigger with blood somewhat three were him in price than they did they both have thousand yard seasons here without it that's like two thousand two all okay okay yeah no I don't they both got to begin with blood so I I guess I would have thought by five that he was gone already because they both had ninety plus catches in the same season and that year is two thousand two oh dear was has a ninety four twelve fifty two and nine touchdown was at Bledsoe's first year here I don't know if it would've been a second second okay I believe moles played through located yeah how about that two thousand five fifteen games and he was in Houston six I thought it was gone by then I do not remember Eric moulds after blood cell yeah I don't remember molds with with Laxman I don't either at all that's what I thought when Bledsoe was done they've moved on from molds to and that wasn't the case obviously so okay it was blood cells first season he was here for three years in his first season was two thousand two and that's were peerless involved said that big here yeah and then you know if you we could do stuff like this what happened after that year they lost half of their weapons yeah in two thousand two mold has a hundred catches and peerless has ninety four in in the next year the price is gonna trade right right they traded Adam Adam first round pick yeah want to say like delivery centers in reverse they've also like they cut out all of the weapons from blood so and then it all started to fall apart and then you could get out of pocket could move in and out all went from there how about motives mold still had a thousand yard season and for really I don't remember it I don't remember if he had eighty eight catches an awful with JP I mean I've been in buffalo I've been here since two thousand two thousand or two thousand one and I want to say I barely remember any Eric Maltz all of their work multi always rate crippling I I I think I remember with blood so and then I just have nothing I can't even believe he played with Lawson okay so for that was let's was last season that was a JP okay forward blood cells last season Lagat in really for like four games so it was stepping out so okay sure but he's on the team yeah but I there's no way was out of town yards with J. P. Losman is this quarterback no no no that's why I was confused and I said I think mall tundra yard game came in five from Kelly Holcomb well that's possible right yeah you look that up eight older also I find it eight oh three oh five fifty join us eight eight eight five fifty to five fifty Hey when we get back you check in in the South Florida the dolphins a bit we're talking earlier about the division you know we don't we we know we talk about the bills in the patriots but where the dolphins and jets fit in well the dolphins been pretty aggressive in free agency they brought in some big name guys help out of the office of line add some guys on defense we'll we'll talk a little bit about what they've been doing in the off season when we get back that's coming up next on WGR I have a user for them to give it to you before the break of five also yeah mould said two one hundred yard games in two thousand five one was against the New England Patriots and that came from Kelly Holcomb the other was against the Denver Broncos and that quarterback for the bills would ban also Kelly Holcomb two one hundred.

"Not silly they need to tie down they can rely on catching the ball consistently maybe that does become Dawson Knox's not him right now the drops we're gonna little ridiculous to Dawson knocks they got a they got some things to work out you need a complimentary option to Devin single Terry yet the minor things to you need you're not a finished product yet yeah cap space this offseason maybe you do with that but would you did prove is against the best team in football you're not too far off and you can make that up doesn't seem like a take too much to make up the difference right now between the bills in the ravens your need your quarterback to play better that inherently has to come along with all of this other stuff but yesterday proved to me that this thing right now is what does what appear to be sustainable the defense appears to be sustainable the offense has tools that you can work with the completion all of this process of the bills have had over the past couple years is going to come down to this offense the process will not be completed until they go from average offense to one of the better ones in leave whether they can be that the weather they they need to get to a point where Baltimore is because the bills how Baltimore check yesterday right we saw scored twenty four points the bad day for them that's where the bills need to get the building to get to a point where they're bad day on offense still results in twenty four point that's with the chiefs are too that's where the Texans are a lot of times when when the games that show up for the bills can get to that point where their offense is respected enough and is good enough to where they face a great defense like Baltimore or New England or a Pittsburgh coming up on Sunday night that you can at least expected they're gonna get into the twenties because in the modern NFL if you want to be a legitimate contender you need to be able to get into the twenties at least on a consistent basis and bill have not done that this year that's why they're not a legitimate contender to me and that's first Superbowl I'm I'm that's that's higher standards that they're going to make the playoffs they're going to be respected as a team that could win a playoff game maybe two but probably just one but the next step past that they're not quite there yet and it's because their offense can not consistently get to that twenty point threshold all right about as much as I can jam in there for you I'll be back with you though on Wednesday tomorrow be sabers and blues to seven thirty puck drops NBCSN games we'll talk some savers on Wednesday hopefully they're in a playoff spot amazingly enough doesn't feel like their a plus but but they are so we're talking hockey event but until then thank somebody for listening and stay tuned for money football giants eagles is on the way next as part of Buffalo Bills football Monday right here on WGR you can't help but love this time.

"Eastern time in paris in the quarter-finals the u._s. defeated spain on monday and france beat brazil on sunday you can catch the game on fox the bison spelled scranton wilkes-barre four to six in the first game of last night's doubleheader but they beat the rail riders one zero in game two they host the syracuse mets this weekend and the first pitch tonight at seven five p._m. that is your sports update we're going to have robert mays from the ringer on at about two fifteen coming up in just a few minutes meanwhile we're rolling around in this in this twitter poll what burning question of head of do you have about the buffalo bills headed into training camp most people's questions burning questions have to do with number seventeen and how he's gonna play in what development we're going to see in him early on there's no doubt Route. there are a lot of teams in that boat with with buffalo and they're young quarterbacks cleveland the jets the dolphins certainly the ravens are in that boat as well so it's going to be a big season for all of those teams for all of those reasons you know when you talk about the burning questions it's gonna be fun finally get some of these questions answered yeah i thought this was an interesting one brian tweeted the tight end he was wondering where they're going to be when they had two week one and i think they believe tyler kroft was going to be the guy that's why they gave him all the money and free agency and then unfortunately day one of the o._t. as you know breaks his foot and they're still not sure of timeline on when he's going to be back but i was i watch dawson knox a lot during the campaign i was impressed i think this kid they may have something here and and we've seen time and again although it's only been a couple of years sean and brandon have found gems late in the draft in the mid rounds i mean they found taryn johnson they've been able to find some of the matt milano they found some of these guys obviously matt goes back to sean i won because brandon wasn't here but they've been able to find some guys in those mid rounds that have been able to produce a lot and i'm gonna be interested to see dawson knocked start the season and plays well tyler kroft might be on the outside looking in i mean that's it's hard and like you said you got to be available and dawson knox and some of these younger guys even to the point like a guy like devon single terry he's gonna get a ton of work in the pre shirt there's one thing you don't need to know how leshan mccoy and frank gore yet we're going to be when they step out there so there's a lot of that going to be going on in this preseason i'm with you dawson we had him on the show and so he's guys come in they sit in a studio with us toss knox comes into my own My gosh. Yeah. He's huge. He's a big. He's a big dude. And so and he also had. an eye for lack of a better way to put it he had this presence about him i mean this guy was does does seriously a very serious on it kind of kid he he he was and most of these kids come in there and they're chatting off but they don't want to say anything silly you know there you can tell they've got their you know they've dealt with the media that much whatever college they were at particularly the position players quarterbacks you'll get guys that are sometimes more well-versed and doing interviews and stuff but you know they come in and they've got their guard up there's there cliche machine and they don't do dawson knocks wasn't like that he was pretty thoughtful and while he had his guard up he was a pretty serious speaker had a real air about him of being a an adult seer we say some of these guys come out in their little bright eyed and little you know it's all wow and this really neat dawson knox didn't have that about him because we interviewed him after the as the actually was rookie minicamp right so you get a chance to to speak to add oliver in cody ford and some of these younger guys and and when we when we spoke with dawson knocks it was different cash just seemed like he had been in the league for three years it just seemed like you were talking to a guy who like you said his been interviewed before wasn't doesn't he i don't i don't he doesn't come across a yeah i don't think the moments ever going to be too big for him whether or not he can play at this level we'll see but certainly he's got them in tally for the physical bill for it he's you know he's got a lot he's got approve a lot of things no question about it there's a lot of things we don't know about them and there's a lot of things he doesn't know as well as as confident as and as self assured as he was i'm not saying he was talking or anything like that not at all he just did not have any angst about how this was all going to turn out it was pretty refreshing to talk to young guy like that who's well usually talk to that he's an old guy this guy seemed he was a young guy but you know he's seeing he literally seemed like he had already signed three contracts played it out had you know had a nice career behind him and and was you know helping out it was just it was a different feel and i don't know what we're gonna see from it when things really go but i don't think there's any question he's going to be on the squad and he's going to contribute in some way shape or form yeah and i i mean i think everybody has pretty high expectations for the at all of her and cody forward and those guys but i think that he's the one rookie that we may look back three years from now and go stole him so we've been we've been going through this we've had a lot of conversations this burning question head of training camp we asked you the listeners if you had something that was really bugging you can get it on eight three oh five fifty one eight five fifty to five fifty we've strayed away from it because most of the it's been a little bit of a run of the mill twitter question i'll admit of like this from number one on the tweet tweets sheet brought to us by corgan moving systems the official move the buffalo bills from brian tight end we're entering week one confidently or the wheels in motion to bolster i consider the weakest link certainly there are more unknowns there yeah you're right brian we'll see from vince on the tweet sheet my one burning question would be have mcdermott and being saturated this roster with enough talent to launch this team into the person perennial longterm success the bills organization and community covets there's a lot in their vents can the new player coaching additions propel the bills to the next level that's right because here's the thing from from my perspective and from what i've seen about around the national football league from all the things that have transpired around me and other teams that i've observed successful ones unsuccessful ones perennial losers and perennial winners the bills have made every concerted intelligent smart decision and disciplined decision into doing this for long term success certainly they wanted to win every game that they coached or know the coach here or played here but they knew that they had to do some things to get it ready to be able to sustain it and if they can get this team to a point where they're winning double digit games it's going to be sustainable that's been the entire foundation that they've laid this on they've got things strung out they've got a philosophy of signing key players that are maybe only on one year deals lot of contributors are only just kind of there to prove it they've got him highly motivated in a spot where they can flourish i think it's been a really good philosophy were to see how it turns out but as for being sustainable on yeah that's the entire idea that they started with well exactly that's what they started with when sean from day one when sean brandon both walked into the doors they both said look this isn't about ending the drought in one year and then having to completely strip it down and redo it but it was all about being here for the long term and not just ending the drought and then losing a playoff game it was about eventually winning a super bowl i mean they've made it clear that that's and let's face it that's the reason they moved on from tyrod at the end of the day because they that was just kind of be it was he wasn't going to get him them to wear they needed to go so they thought you know what with take one step forward to take fifty one back to take fifteen forward they were going to do it yeah the thought about tyrone i don't mean to be disrespectful tyrod i love that it was great guy he was a great guy and he was right what this team needed sure i'm they got him and he played well he got this team to the playoffs you helped get this team to the playoffs but the around and even now as he's backing up baker mayfield in cleveland effect like you had a low ceiling with him he was a six year vet when the bills got him and he was the same player when he left here's he was when he got here he didn't he didn't progress didn't get further and certainly you can point to the roster around him as being insufficient or not good enough but they ran the football extremely well with him here that number one running attack and they're passing attack largely due in part to mostly to him it could not keep up with that rushing attack so they decided to make that change in and go for the higher ceiling and roll the dice with this guy josh allen and you have to you have to in the league i mean you gotta find a guy that can that's going to be the difference maker in the n._f._l. if you're gonna wanna win at the ultimate ultimate level and super bowls and that's what they made it but that's they they made a lot of decisions long way they stayed inside the lines they didn't go out and the only guy they really and reach for nine we'll see when he plays is mitch morris because now they've got the highest paid center in the national football league on their roster that's the one place where they've spent some cash it was at a an enormous position of need but this guy had a track record they knew what they were getting it wasn't a roll of the dice he's a good player and they were willing to go that distance for that kind of player in that situation i get that he's twenty six they've got him for long term he's going to be in his prime it's the perfect place to overspend at a position of need at a player that's really worth it and rite aid so that was the one place where they spent a lot of money on one guy the rest of right in their wheelhouse kobe's lee john brown mid range signings the same thing they've got they got kevin johnson into the fold a former first round pick and cornerback who's got a lot of measurable but couldn't stay healthy and when i was told i was told by an assist coach for the houston texans told me that if kevin johnson is healthy he will win that starting cornerback job you said he's that good now once again it goes back to not being in the hot tub to make the club but i mean if he's healthy i've been told to disguise elite cover corner like he was out play and think about it to the confidence the buffalo bills have now in and with this thing we spoke about before the break their ability to their philosophy and their program of keeping guys healthy and not losing them to injuring keeping them on the practice field and the game end game day healthy that plays into the weakness of kevin maybe he'll benefit from program or the one the bills like the one the bills have instilled where you don't have to look over if you got a little tweak you don't have to look over your shoulder you're gonna get benched because you've got ice on your ankle or you're going to be looked at like i don't know if he's i think he's soft so let's go with this other guy even though the guy's playing well he's kinda you know that kind of you don't get ridiculed for going in Getting treatment. So maybe that's the kind of place where Kevin Johnson can stay healthy. Maybe felt that, you know, I'm. It's all conjecture. see the philosophy and how it could work factor the bills back here mitch morris point i think last year they realized how much eric would meant to that offensive line and i think they.

"In Dawson, Knox won the bills traded two picks to move into the third round of the later end of third round to take and Devin single, Terry a guy that I think a lot of people are very so so on because they looked at the combine numbers they looked at his height and said, I don't get. A short slow guy. What are we doing here? So talk about that third round for the bills. I'm a big big fan of the Dawson knocks pick. I really like his athletic upside potential that he has at a position that I think they needed a developmental type player, but one that has I think a baseline of maybe inability to push for a starting position if not in training camp by mid season. I'll start by saying I'm not a huge fan of NFL comparisons on these prospects are coming out, and who you compare them to because a lot of the time. Getting compared to pro ball players all pro players future hall of famers. But but two players that Devon single Terry was compared to release schon McCoy and Frank gore. They, you know, people some of these draft analyst that he's kind of a combination in terms of his allusive nece in terms of making people miss, but also being a hard to bring down some of it doesn't really shy away on the sidelines. He's not gonna run out of bounds. You might take that on. So I get the thinking they're buffalo had a private workout with single Terry late in the draft process. They got a good look at him. Single Terry is even said that that private workout kind of seal the deal for buffalo really liking him and bring him in. And when you looked at what buffalo did right before the draft signing TJ Yeltsin Utah, okay, maybe running backs not going to be a high priority. Even though they have an older running back room because Michelle. Mccoy probably is last year in buffalo. I think it's fair to at least a soon that Frank gory might hang it up after this year based on his age alone. And then Yeltsin, yeah, you have him under contract for two years. So you're thinking, okay. Yeah. At least have a receiving back. There is an option for twenty twenty. They can get a guy in the draft or free agency next year to address a losses. So when they went out in the third round, they added single tear. You know, I think that was early then a lot of people thought running back would be on the table for them. But when you look at the like, I said when you look at the comparisons. How is skill set? His his size is elusive nece is you know, a willingness to take on contact and how it how is gained translates to aspects of the Shawn McCoy, and Frank gore can do I can see why buffalo say let's bring him in and let him actually learn from one maybe two potential hall of famers here and see what he can do in twenty twenty with with the Italian. You know that the heavy workload bring him in this year in terms of more of a rotational role as. Dawson knox. I I'm just as high in Dawson acts. I I'm sure as you were he was my number four tight end in this draft class. I feel like he was misused underutilized whatever the word you wanna use at ole miss. I think that he really did pop on when if you watch any games of oldness where he did seem to consistently get open the guy averaged about nineteen yards per catch when he was targeted when he did get the ball in his hands. And you know, one thing that Josh Allen. I thought did pretty well last year was target in the middle of the field. And I think that's a guy that can get open an intermediate to deplane in the middle of the field. Just another weapon for Josh Allen, a guy like like, you said, I think come in immediately and contribute. You know? I do think that Tyler cross is going to have a pretty decent role here in his first season with buffalo. But that's the only tight end that I would say might be a head of Dawson knocks entering his rookie season. So a guy that I really like athleticism is off the charts. Tested. Really well, a guy that former quarterback. So very intelligent kind of knows, you know, the best spots where maybe he should sit on the field. If if he's not running a deep route things like that. So he he brings a lot to the bills tight end room, in my opinion, writing an interesting thing, and I think a lot of people when talking about Devon single, Terry. I think that four six six forty yard dashes really obviously him being a shade under five eight those are two things. I think on paper that pop out to people that are saying, I just don't really like this pick. And and one of my arguments was like if you look at Louis Shawn McCoy, you ran like a four four three or four four five. I think at the combine coming out of pit and one of the things about Shawn McCoy is if you've look at him and his year thirty one season, I would probably bet that Leshan McCoy's forty are. Dash is probably not what it was when he came out of college. And I think if you look past the combine went does anybody not only running back, but just players in the league in general? Other than the guys that run the four three right? Like the Tariq hills. Some of these players that that are just absolutely running away from defenders in the National Football League. We don't really talk about guys forty times past there combine or passed the draft. So it's like how big of a deal is a guy that really has gained isn't reliant around running away from players, but more of a nuanced understanding of reading blocks and making quick cuts like to me a forty yard dash really becomes irrelevant after like, the combine draft in my opinion. I think that's a great point. You know, players don't get down in the running stands in the NFL and and run that forty yard dash. So once a live game action begins. You know, I I think it kind of goes out the window. Like, you said the bills have said, we don't expect this guy to be a home run hitter. We don't think he's going to break off those fifty sixty seventy yard runs. We think this is a guy that's going to probably go for when he when he takes on contact when he is going down. He's not. I'm gonna fall backwards. He's gonna move ahead and pick up that extra yard or two. He's a guy that we can, you know, count on to find those holes that maybe weren't there because they said they watched them film where you know, he was going to get taxed on the backfield front five yard loss. Turn it into a five or six yard gain. And it was one of those jaw dropping moments where you said, what did he hire? How did he do this? So he's not gonna be a home run hitter necessarily for buffalo. But you don't need a home run hitter at running back in the NFL these days if you can get a guy that can consistently get or five six yards on the ground. You're going to keep those chains moving. And if there's one thing that's great about single Terry that he showed over his career is he has a nose for the end zone, though. So if you get near the end zone, he seems to find a way to get in there. So you know, I wouldn't worry too much about that forty times. I wouldn't worry about him having to be a home run hitter for buffalo having to rip off these long runs. He's going to do the the little things to pick up the the small yards short yards to help keep the the chains. Moving for Josh. Alan and the bills offense right before I let you go. We've got Ryan Talbot here on the west her hotline from New York upstate Colin coward. I was speaking about the bills this week on the heard on his Fox Sports one show and was talking about I think his segments like three words about what? And I can't remember exactly the combination of awards he used for the bills. But basically it was along the lines of they're still pretty far away. And and what he means is at the top of the vision to England it still everyone else. But I think a lot of people this year are still asking questions about this bills team. Are they talented enough at the top of their roster. And and you know, I look at I think it would have been the two thousand sixteen bills team that had Percy Harbin Robert Wood. Sammy Watkins LA Shawn McCoy, tyrod Taylor and defensively Jerry Hughes. Marcel Darius and all these at Stefan Gilmore and Aaron Williams like they had good talent atop the roster, but the middle and bottom of their roster in terms of depth. They just had none. So when guys like Percy Harvard gets injured in and Marcel Darius just his career goes down the drains, it all of a sudden you go. From a team that has all this top talent to you drop two or three players and all of a sudden, you're having trouble competing and football games. Because you don't have the depth. This is a very different team the two thousand nine hundred bills. They don't have maybe that one player that will have that number one ride receiver or that top five pass rusher or a top four quarterback. But it seems like they're a team that has a lot of b plus players across the roster. If you're building roster right now Ryan, are you a guy that's looking for one or two eight plus players and filling the rest with CS. Or you looking at how the bills are trying to build things and really have no noticeable weakness across their entire lineup. I like the building building things right now. You know, one Brennan being was pretty smart of a lot of these editions these contracts and come off the books in one or two seasons without really crippling buffalo long-term. So that's one thing that I look at when I see these new players that come in. But right after the draft was over I said, this is probably the deepest group that I can remember in recent history. And that's no knock on that two thousand sixteen squad or anything like that. But you know, I looked at the offense of line, first and foremost, all of a sudden a line that was definitely one of the worst no league last year is not only significantly stronger on paper, but there's some really good depth. There. You have Dion dock and tying second Cody four three guys probably by vying for those to tackle jobs in one could get kicked inside if they end up losing that job. You obviously have Mitch Morris at center guard. You have some really good options there Quinton. Spain. The loser of those three tackles that I mentioned, but you still have guys like Spencer Long John Feliciano who played under Bobby Johnson who knows about him. Then there's also tackles like Adrian Waddell who people really aren't talking about much but his first two seasons in the league. He posted really good grades at pro football, focus, and one of his coaches was Bobby Johnson, though, he's the guy that thrived in that offensive. You know in terms of working under Bobby Johnson's. I think he could be a surprise factor there, and you see that other positions to where if one guy goes down. It's not necessarily going to hurt the bills for the entire season. Now, mind you. This whole year is going to be based on what Josh Josh Allen makes gains from year one year two I think this is a team that contend for a wildcard spot. I think that they're neck and neck with the jets for the second best team in the AFC. I really think that it's too close to call. I don't like that people are just writing off the bills and saying, oh that's the jets because they made some flashy sign, right? Yeah. Like bell Moseley, and I get that. But when you look across the board at starting talent and depth. I think Buffalo's right there, you look at the schedule that buffalo places here the NFC. I think there's some winnable games in that division, including against the two teams that I think will be at the top of the division in Dallas and Philadelphia. You look at the AFC north. You know, the the ravens it's going to be really interesting to see what Lamar Jackson doesn't ear to. But I really think the charge was kind of gave a blueprint on how to contain him in how to stop him in that playoff matchup now conjecture and learn from that and build off of that performance. Absolutely. Not gonna write him off of that the Bengals look like they're on the, you know on the downside. But maybe that can bring more out of them hits Berg there, obviously going to be without bell and without Brown this year, they didn't have felt last year either. And they still have some very talented players. But even that's a winnable game on paper. Oh, yeah. It's all based on what Josh Allen dozen ear to this is the team that if things go right for them. I could see them winning nine or ten games in being on that wild card discussion. Ryan, you got me a little fired up about this New York Jets thing because I think you're totally spot on with what you said, you know, they're a team that built completely different this off season in the bills. I mean, they had more cap space to work with and more money in free agency to work with this year than the bills. I mean, not incredible amounts more..

"So the giants have the they have the picket thirty seven, and you know, and you talked about boykin. You mentioned Dawson Knox. I don't. I don't know. If Dawson Knox is a is a tight end who would be in consideration that early just, you know, off of your grades. You know, who might some of the guys that that they could be looking at, you know, at thirty seven be maybe a couple of guys we haven't talked about yet. Certainly as another tight end, Irv Smith is kinda delaying Walker type. I would say if you can feel he's a good blocker. He's not quite as big as Hopkinson, but he holds up very, well, technique wise, and he is I think he's the best receiver after the catch. Even though he's not the quote, unquote, most athletic, but he's the most polished tight end in this class, and you know, comes from great bloodlines from earth. Smith senior who played for the New Orleans Saints in the forty Niners for quite a long career. And he is a good tight end who could be split outside versatile. And could give you that Delaney. Walker type of player, but in addition terms of otherwise receiver talents, the keel, Harry might be there, you know, and a lot of people see him as a big slot receiver. And I think that may be the case, but he's also a guy who you know, can win one on one in the deep game at with his physicality, and he's also a guy that you can move around. So if you're looking for multiplicity in terms of multiple looks in terms of higher seniors could move around at different positions. Harry can also play tennis different roles on team. So he would fit in well in that regard. And I think that those, you know, those two guys probably make the most sense of thirty seven. You might see if team I would say this is doubtful based on how he performed at the combine. But if a team is just really in love with Kelvin Harman's tape, and they feel like we'd love his physicality. We like how can run double moves? We feel like he can be possession. Plus kind of split end for us in Alan Robinson tight, but maybe not quite as faster dynamic Kelvin bet car. Kelvin Harbin is a is a guy who wins really well to catch point. And they may see that another one might be an it may seem like an odd pick. But it's Paris Campbell. And the reason it's gonna see my to everybody on yours could be pretty obviously seeing him as more of a slot receiver. There's a lot of talk in being Streep draft me that he can't get deep or that. He wasn't used a lot as deep player only six to five. But we gotta remember that Paris. Campbell's is a hyper lead athlete of this is a guy with four three speed extreme quickness great explosiveness legs drink, he's an excellent blocker. And he just wasn't used much as receiver one of the flaws Dwayne Askins ad that we talked about the last. Episode is sometimes he missed some of the opportunities to throw the ball deep where he had open receivers in terms of the leverage pre snap. And it was usually centered around Paris Campbell in the slot. But pairs Campbell can't get deep. He actually knows how to make the good Dr step one long step into the hard parade. Which is the hardest thing about route running for the more difficult timing rouse. So he may be inexperienced. But he's not raw. He has a good solid base a fundamental as a pass catcher as a route runner, and he someone very good after the catch. And I could see how you know. Maybe they decide that they they like his athletic ability. They wanna get creative with that. I don't think that's the best. All I don't think it's going to happen. But I'm trying to think of guys in that range. In addition to may be deebo Samuel would also kind of fit in that rage. But he's kinda I think depot Samuel can be a little bit for a Jimmy Smith type of play Jag. Guar receive them or a Sterling Sharpe type of player Rickaby a little more physical than.

"Since avert has been around. But you only need to listen to one the latest one to get caught up on everything in tech. News virtue is on apple podcasts. Spotify everywhere else who listen to podcast, check it out. Kind of talked about this before the podcasts were texting back and forth. But yeah, Dawson Knox was criminally underutilized at old miss, but showed a lot in his minimal action. He caught three nine passes in three years, but he never had a touchdown. He's a fluid route runner a lineup everywhere. He was also a guy that ole miss ran is both run and pass blocker. He showed the ability to be a vertical threat and get some extra yards after the catch knock shows some good catch radius and rarely body catches DASA Knox. As more of a projection than a plug and play starter. They had a lot of weapons at all miss and knocks was kind of the odd man out there and on tape. He's a pretty good route runner to nations block can give vertical. But he didn't get his opportunity to prove himself, which is kind of making him a hit or miss type guy going straight off traits. Knox would be a top five tight end in this class. But without the production. He'll fall little and that might make him one of the better value picks in the draft because he's pretty talented, but just wasn't able to. Show it that's not his fault. Just didn't get the opportunity. So we're actually close I've got a seventy eight on him. So, you know, high third round grade maybe creeping up to the low second like knocks. But you're right. Just a big coaching fail on their part. The next guy in the last guy on our list before we get to sleepers cadence Smith from Stanford. He's got a freakish frame at six five to fifty Smith was a fearless receiver fighting for the ball for the middle and tight rope walking the sideline. He's got good. High point ability does a nice job adjusting to the ball in the air. And they're quite a few bad throws his way that he made plays on the most tight ends. You wouldn't see do that. His route running is somewhat raw my opinion. He's particularly sloppy at the top of his routes. His blocking ability is somewhat hitter. Mrs. Well, cadence myth would be your steady tied in presence. He won't get much separation. But when he does man if it's in his area, he'll catch it isn't much of a mismatch at a size. But what he does he does well with some room to grow. He's got the ability to be a solid pro. And. Most drafts he's you'd be taking a lot higher. But because there's kind of a lower ceiling for Kane Smith, in my opinion, he's probably gonna go in the middle rounds but in most draft glasses because this is such a stack Tynan class you've probably going higher. I've got a seventy two on him which is a third round pick. I like kids Smith. I liked him a little bit more than you. Did he's I mean, you mentioned a lot of it. He's a big physical target in the middle of the field. I think he tracks in just the ball like a wide receiver. He really owns the seams in the deep near media passing game is a good athlete. Smith is very physical and polished as a run blocker. I think I think the pass protection is an issue, and he gets a lot of very consistent movement in the run game as a blocker in my opinion Smith is ethnic enough to climb a second level blocks in the run game. And he always keeps his body between himself and the defender and always extends and catches with his hands as opposed to catch against his body. Cadence Smith, I think is running. Could use some work. Like you mentioned. He ran a lot of routes in college pretty diverse route Trie just not very good route Trie at this point in his career Smith occasionally overruns blocking assignments at the second level. He wasn't as much of a factor in the red zone as you'd expect..

Mel what do we make of Dawson Knox guy from ole miss? I I mean, you guys obviously know better than me. This feels like we're talking about this is a really deep tight end class. And is he another one of these guys were maybe you get them in round three, and you feel like in some years. You would have got him early round to. I don't know. I'm looking at Knox. You talk about underclassmen. He's one of it right now of the top seven. Tight ends six or underclassmen. I'll know how your board goes Todd. I'm just looking at it now, and it kind of stood out to me when you think about how important to combine is Knox. One of. He's a set of eight of nine mill you have eight of nine. Okay. So I'm down to teach a Hopkinson underclassmen, Irv Smith underclassmen Noah fan, Kate and Smith, Caleb Wilson, UCLA and Dawson knocks all underclassmen the only senior in eastern burger from Israel senior only. That's why I say would Sweeney get lost in the shuffle. With all the he's the only senior. Then you've got sample Washington Monroe LSU, Oliver, San Jose, Donald Parham could upset sins interest. I saw him. It was a was Waldorf during the year big game. And of course, they got her. What do you get hurt at the senior bowl practice Parham? No one's too. Yeah. So he's a kid is kind of a wild card that maybe you take late and take a chance with maybe day three some point day three will probably be talking about Parham from Stetson. But I again, do we know can we can we verify any time for underclassmen at this stage. No, we can so we we're just guessing we get go by what she hear from school. He's going to run this. He's going to run that. What do you think knocks runs Todd? For sevens. He runs four seven. He's gonna go though later in the third round. I think you know. And I think that's again where Caitlyn Smith go back. I like the kid. He's a good all around this Tate and Smith does he run four eight five. What's what's his forty time? Going to be how how fast is Smith Sweeney. What you're you estimating for Tommy Sweeney right now, if you had to guess best guess right now four eight five four six if he ran four eight as a second round that. Wow. When the board I think if he runs four eight or batteries, the second round pick the kid, and I really think Smith runs for your better. He'll go pretty high the the one I get to Hopkinson. What do you think? Hopkinson runs Todd does. He have surprise us on seven. What's that supports seven four six five? Yeah, I guess in that range. I think he's at least from a play speed standpoint. I know he's not quite as fast as fan, but he's significantly bigger stronger and better blocker. And I think. Dallas gar. What did he run last year? Gosh, I don't think are opening four seven. I like he runs back Hopkinson runs better than that. Yeah. I think he's right in that range in terms of a guy who can block who has size. But also has underrated speed. Just good group. That's that's a nice group a tight ends. And and at the top you'd have to say right now to go in the first thought, maybe two tight ends in round one where we thought I wasn't Hopkinson would be the one guy that feel strongly will Irv Smith and fan..
