College football: Georgia beats Cincinnati in Peach Bowl
"Tim. Brando has returned and we are always excited to welcome. Tim brando back to our show and tim. Thank you for the time. Happy new year and man. Is there a lot to talk about. Yeah and even some of it is in sports too. You know a little bit of it has to do with sports up. And i've never been happier to be involved in sports right now. I can tell you that this is a this is a good day to cure about a college football game because otherwise you might need. You might shift drink. But let's keep it on college football before we get to monday night because certainly there's plenty of analysis. I couldn't help but think of you. On on friday as cincinnati was holding on dearly and ultimately lost to georgia in the peach bowl just You had been way out front arguing for others to be included in the party and they certainly acquitted themselves quite well. Yeah unfortunately you know this. Perception is reality. But sometimes the realities are when you wind up. Paul with A magnificent championship match up. And i will concede that that's what we have. I mean let's face it. We're talking about the two premier programs with the two largest brands from the two cities that get the highest ratings in sports television columbus. Ohio being second in birmingham alabama. Being one we're talking about the the the cfp really getting very fortunate. I mean really really fortunate. Because you know i certainly didn't believe in ohio state To be clemson the way they did. And i saw enough of ohio state during the regular season to know that they did not perform anywhere. Close to that Until that game was played. Which i think gives you know you have to give a lot of credit ryan day for having his staff and really his own gain planning so schematically superior to davos sweeney and clubs. That's you know brent. Venables is an outstanding defensive coordinator arguably considered maybe with dave aranda. Now is the head coach the best in the country and they were absolutely woodshed. It by ohio state and they did it. Schematically with two tight ends what they call twelve personnel football speak and utilizing the tied in and other receivers in a way that they have not done all season long. certainly they didn't do any of that against northwestern football team that defensively had the their team in a position to possibly beat ohio state in the big ten championship. I mean if it weren't for trae sermons Who had an unbelievable record breaking performance rushing the football. You know ohio state. Does it win that game against pets. It's gerald steam. So i think it was a legitimate by most of that cover football on a regular basis that simpson. Just add way. Too much ammunition and from a defensive standpoint would be able to handle what Been a relatively Understandable offense to defend. You know if you take care of justin feels and you double alava at wide receiver. You should be able to handle them well. That certainly was not the case in this game. So the cfp gets break with this matchup but that doesn't stop the thought process that that cincinnati gave everyone a reason to understand my point of view on this and so many others feel similarly that this is a team deserves to be playing for something a lot more than they were against georgia. They were two yards away all on third into and really didn't have to convert the third to if all they had done is just run the football as opposed to pass it Georgia would have had twenty five thirty thirty five fewer seconds to work with to get the ball to field goal range for fifty three yarder to win it. So i would contend that cincinnati's not just not getting the two yards but just deciding to throw the football rather than run. It was the difference in winning and losing. And and i think if that had happened the narrative wouldn't just be all my god. How great a matchup we have. We know how state alabama the narrative would also be. God did you see cincinnati. You know i mean did you. And they put iowa state with two losses above them. They they they dropped them to spots. I mean cincinnati's case would have been so much different. Had they been able to pull that off against georgia. But but i think people that are smart enough. That really understand the grander landscape of college. Football get the point and that is teams like cincinnati belong the ratings. Prove it too by the way. The highest rated new year's six game on your employers air by far was the cincinnati georgia game that means the game against north carolina and by the way eight. Mp team's gonna wind up at the top four right but you know it was that was a glorified exhibition. It did not rate the way cincinnati's game rating with georgia. It just didn't so imagine if that game was cincinnati were game. That mattered. That really matter. i dare say it would make a huge difference in the mindset of so many people as it relates to expansion of college football. Football's player

"After the game. They should've verbally trashed him. That was B s What Davos. Sweeney was doing the lead up to that game, and it was blatant lack of disrespect. So you ask me Davos. Sweeney should be held Most accountable for clumps has lost the Sugar Bowl. Yeah. His team stunk. They usually don't stink, and he couldn't make an adjustment once. They were up. Then they saw Ohio State get back in the game. Once as they got back in the game, it was a massacre. It was a blowout that's on the coach because he gave Ohio State now that you need extra motivation, but he gave them some extra motivation, and he didn't back up the talk. I don't care how you justify it. When you say you're too and they're 11, you better crush him and you got crushed, so onsides establish should be held most responsible for the loss in the Sugar Bowl. "How impressed for instance, were you With the way Ohio State showed up in the second semi final, especially given how they had looked throughout the season. Yeah, I was blown away. Jim. I just really was. I thought that I didn't think they could win, And I thought they may even get trucked a bit by Clemson just because I thought Clemson was playing in a much higher level and then Ohio State just stepped it up three levels, you know, and the way they X executed the way they performed Justin Fields, really One of the great performances I've seen from a quarterback, especially after nearly having his rib cage split in half. You know, just just courageous and brilliant. Um and Their defense played better trace sermon has been a monster. Lately. Their receivers are excellent. Their offensive line is excellent. S so they've got the ports and I think it's gonna be a real shootout in the final with Alabama at 40 My guest. I mean, amazing win for Ohio State an amazing performance. What about clumps? And what about the flipside? How bad of a loss was that for Clemson? It was bad. It was especially bad for Davos, Sweeney. You know who ran his mouth a bit. And you know, if you if you hand out that bulletin board material of putting Ohio State 11th and no that's gonna be public on then you you go out and get run over. That's a bad look and Davros had a great great run and it's it's going to continue. They've got really good players. You lose Trevor Moritz on even though the rest the next quarterback is really talented. He may not be Trevor Laurence. Yeah, You know, it's just a situation where They had a great as I said, a great run. But you may have missed a little bit of a window here with Trevor. They may still be a top. They should probably still be a top five program. They may eventually be a national champion again. Like you wonder if the last two years if they may be Mr Chance to add a second or third national title under travel on it before asking about the final really quickly when you look

"Con Who's your first heart? Who you offering the job to first? I would You hire urban Meyer? Um I don't have enough faith that urban Meyer really wants to do. Like his heart. Only with his heart's gonna be in it. I agree. You know what I mean? Like, I wouldn't I admire I wouldn't either, because I like Arbor admire, and I think he might be interesting. But I don't know if his heart's gonna be into it And then as a result, and you, you hear me talk about this all the time when you had coaches who you bring in right Who? Who's Who's your quarterback coach? Who's your offensive coordinator? Who's your defensive coordinator, and urban Meyer has great connections in college. Does he have any of those in the NFL until there's obviously always guys available? Especially without this many coaching staff that we're gonna be fired this year? But I think I would. I would trust they established guy in NFL guy. And you know, Eric, the enemy is interesting to me bt because he does have that offensive pedigree now we don't really know how much he does, even though they tell us Head. He's intimately involved in the game planning and even the play calling at times with the can. City chiefs. That would be interesting to me. But again, the question with therapy Enemy is the same one that I have with urban Meyer, who's your coordinator and who's your quarterback coach? Because you're about to bring in The start of studs and he better be groom Current. Wait just to be clear the enemy you would offer him the job first. I would You want to hear? Yes, because I think he's respected around the league and half of the that respect that comes with that is building a staff. And I think he he could build a robust staff down in Jacksonville. Some of these other guys who have no, I mean whatever it's whether it's a college guy or urban Meyer or, you know some some guru who we never heard of yet. That's a girl on somebody staff somewhere. I don't know if they have the respect to bring staff toe properly surround a Trevor Laurence in that in that organization. This wouldn't satisfy your concern based on urban Meyer's ability to build a staff, But there's an undeniable report and level of excellence, would you Would you talk to dabble if you're the Jaguars? I never thought Daboo if the Jets got Lords That was something I wanted. No part of Jacksonville's different whether it's regionally. Whether it's the report with Trevor. Whether it's both would you would you make that move? I don't think Dad will want to leave. I mean, I'd pick up the phone and call him There's no doubt about it. Absolutely Okay. What I'd be interested in Davos Sweeney, the coach to Jackson, Jaguars, 100% b t. But I know that it's ZMA Slee just Hey, how you doing? Good to know you. I'm staying here, right? We We just saw that Brent Venables, his defensive coordinator who is is great, um and one of the highest paid by the way. He stayed because he's making $2.5 million to be a defensive coordinator to Clemson. I think if there was an inkling that gavel Sweeney was inching and go somewhere, Brent Venables would've went somewhere else. Well, that's the key point, because the other thing you do by initiated you had the conversation with dabble, right. Trevor Lawrence is going to be hopefully for Jacksonville in Jacksonville for 15 years, and what Trevor Laurence and if not more, and what Trevor and dab Oh did jointly together what they've accomplished together. That never fades even if they're away for a couple of years. So even if you bring in somebody other than dab Oh, but you develop a report You initiate a conversation. You plant seeds, Maybe for the next coach is not that you want to think negatively. Hopefully, whoever you bring in is the right guy and it works here. But if it doesn't, you've already kind of kicked the tires. You have cursory conversations. And that at that point, maybe Venables gone. Maybe dabbles ready to jump into the give it a shot made. Maybe that's the prudent play Eric the enemy, huh? I don't know that I would do that. I don't know who I would hire a from Jacksonville that needed They need a GM. Someone from in there. They need a GM, too. They need a GM as well. All right, coming up. Let's get back to the Browns here. We just kind of reference them and haven't really thoroughly explored. Not so much. What happened yesterday? They just they were inapt. We know that, but You know? How do they rebound? How did they rally? You know, one of the fans thinking right now. What's it like? What a franchise That hasn't won a lot as they have not historically gets dealt a curve ball on the pressure is ratcheted up. It's amplified. How did they? How did they compartmentalized that.
Clemson Coach Dabo Swinney Ranks Ohio State at No. 11 in Final Coaches Poll
"Davos, Sweeney can do whatever he wants with his pole. It's kind of why nobody pays attention to the coachespoll anymore. Now that we have the playoff committee rankings, we don't need it. Because when dabble places Ohio State number 11 Hello, Florida and Oklahoma and Georgia, Cincinnati and Coastal Carolina as well. It clearly was just to make a point that Ohio State did not play enough games in his mind. Not that there's 10 teams. Actually could beat the buck up the same way no power. Five coaches put Cincinnati in their top four. But seven group of five coaches did see the coaches are always acting in their own self interests. Politicking for their own schools for playoff spots, Bull Biggs and then their conferences to get more respect and when they can propping up those that help them while tearing down those that don't

"By the name of Davos, Sweeney Clinton's head coaches. Thanks so the Buckeyes are not deserving. Apparently, Here's what Devil had to say in the rich Eisen shot. You think that there has to be some type of Standard. And, you know, e. I just think it would be if I was on the committee. Be hard for me to leave out a 10 in one. Texas, saying him or a or a 11 games Florida TI Umm you know over team It's like six games Can there there you have it scared? Scared you go. No, he's not scared. This is the guy who don't forget. Well, of course. Look, his team. If they lose again, they're out. That's one scary lost another day. Um, you know, my, you know my affection for gavels winning. This is the same guy who said that Florida State just didn't wanna play when the covert out exactly For the Seminoles quote Covert. It was just an excuse to cancel the game. I have no doubt their players wanna play and would have played and same with the coaches to me. The Florida State administration forfeited the game. Not not the Florida state's head coach, right? A great point who's had covert by the way, said I'll listen to the doctors instead of a football coach. Hey, Devil just kind of reminds me. He's kinda like the Benny Hill of College football. Don't get me wrong. He's excellent Coach Take nothing away from Clemson in the national championships. Those were earned. They have a damn good football program. Him personally. He's kind of like Benny Hill, a college football coaches. And let's not forget something that we saw over the weekend player that formally did Pest top positive covert 19 this summer. Florida Gators..

"But if Jack Easterby with this Clock to swinging back and forth who were putting a spell on you. Sleepy time that dude creeps me out. I don't usually judge people because I know I don't have the greatest mug in the world. I don't judge people by their head shot. Go look at his head shot. He looks like a guy you don't trust and he looks very creepy. Jack Easter Big And everyone like positive words to say about him. How does this guy make this ascension so quickly? Makes zero sense to make So we go from a little bit earlier Davos, Sweeney let's get some work college coaches in their coach K the other day his team to into questioning. After they lose the Illinois and also the Michigan State loss if they should keep on playing this season, Duke with all that's going on the world, and yet Rick Pitino also saying a few weeks back, they should not be playing this season and push it back. Here is Thomas, the head coach of this party party's still Party party. Michigan State. He was on with their very own tiki interior. Yesterday. He disagreed with Coach Case comments all season, mental health and everything. The one thing they were home for five months, you know and think about being 20 and have to be home with your parents. You know, I got a 20 year old. You know, he hated every minute of it. But But the greatest mental health I think is when an athlete is is an athletic, but I think for the most part, if we take care of our own business, we could get stand back in the stands. I don't think we should quit living. You know, I don't think we should quit working. And I definitely don't think we should quit playing. Yeah, I don't think that there's gonna be fans back in the stands anytime soon. Now that could change. You know, state by state will see what how it does operate. Don't believe that college basketball should stop playing right now. We're going through it or trying to live life. It's been a lot of road bombs, speed bumps this year. Let's see if we get through this season. There's a cancelation just there's gonna be positive tests. Hockey got through season basketball got through season. I know they're in bubbles. NFL is getting through their season. Major league baseball.

"Seriously. How are they Go? How they gonna work that out? Because we got what? Five games and how many games did babbling bam and get into you know they Bam is gonna end up playing like 10 games Total or 11 games total with E. S E. C championship. Ohio State is going to be four no matter what, because, apparently, that's their punishment. Quote unquote. According to the College Football playoff Committee. That's kind of what they're going to do is good thing. Good thing Davos when he's not in charge of that, well, Davos Sweeney is a loud mouth. Um, he's he's a goober. He really is. He's a goober. He runs his mouth a lot. He gets in trouble lot. He says things. He's an attention. Me, me. Me. Look at me. Look at me, kind of guy. But if you don't know what referring to Davos, Sweeney apparently has made comments, saying that Ohio State doesn't deserve to be in the playoffs because they have played enough games. Too bad you don't get to decide Dubow. Dip. Oh, yeah, but so assuming Alabama can take care of Florida and the SEC championship, it's going to be Alabama in Ohio State in the first round of the playoffs almost called him. Debo. Sweet. That doesn't excite you at all D chance to take on Nick saying no to the yes way got a chance against them. Yeah, we have a chance against anybody around the country. You know, I just How do you put us in with five games and other teams have played 10? It's just It's just, I don't know. All right, Like, Well, I hope they have the other team focuses on that. That's their focus. They're gonna get hit in the mouth. You know what I mean? Exactly that I have. They do focus on that. Yeah, that could I don't know. I'm just I'm just I'm very disappointed that the football season had to be the way it was especially, you know, missing the fans in the crowd, the no tailgating and then why put a cut out? Why? What's the deal with the cut out so bizarre like it doesn't even make sense. Like why What are you doing that for? All that turned into was basically kind of punch lines for the people that are calling the game they would Would every once in a while you'd see like a camera shot of one, and they really look at that crazy hat they're wearing or, you know, I mean, it was like it just can't be father. Could you imagine? I could like I tried to put myself in their shoes and you know, back when I was playing and I came in, because I know the first couple games. They're like Ha. Look, someone's dog. You're so you're so you're so get to the fans and then I know when you score. You're so in the moment you go to look up and you forget that. Wait a minute. There's no fans, and then you see a cut out like that had to be one of the weird. Just experience ever. But I don't understand the point of the cut out. Who's that supposed to do? Huh? I don't know. Just like a logical or something. I'm telling you, I think they did it for just like as a side talking point or something silly. Let's give them something to talk about. Let's do some silly stuff. Like I said, people like it's my dog in there or whatever. It's a picture of the dog. I would I would see people on Facebook saying, Hey, I made TV They show Yeah, I don't know. Right silliness complete silliness. All right, let's do traffic.

"That's I heart dot com K D W N. Chuck. It's time now. If people haven't followed college football, and maybe people have the entire day like you and I have, they might want to say what happened this game who won that game? Let's tell them now. Well, the number one Clemson tigers. They rolled over The Citadel, 49 nothing. Davos. Sweeney had them out ahead by 49 points at the half, and then they shut it down and it was very quiet, 3rd and 4th period and they rolled over The Citadel 49. Notre Dame. They were old 50 to nothing over the South Florida Bulls. So again another great win for Brian Kelly and Notre Dame in the sea. And they're having a chance. Tio, go to Oh, no. Out in the big 12. It was OK state. 16 7 over Tulsa. Ah, Cincinnati ranked 13th rolled 55 20 over Austin T to go to want to know. Central Florida defeated Georgia Tech 49 21 their rank 14th of the country in a big game today, one that I know you you saw and were able to evaluate the Miami Hurricanes 47, Louisville. 34 So ah, pretty even contest. Miami ranks 17th going in Louisville ranked 18th in overtime. The number 19 Louisiana Lafayette Raging Cajuns. 34 31 over Georgia State. It was Marshall 17 to 7 over number 20 ranked Appalachian State and then number 25 pitch. 21 10 over Syracuse. And of course, there was to cancel games today. Charlene in North Carolina and BYU army. So from that standpoint, coach I know you watched the Miami Louisville. Give him your insights in regards to the Hurricanes and the cardinal. Well check. I try to watch his better games. That can because this is a great period of time for me to evaluate a lot of players and a lot of teams said They may not be able to see later on. It has five Miami and Louisville. I really enjoyed that football game 47 30 for high scoring football game but demonstrated ah lot of a lot of great skill football players. Really get after it. Everybody can run. Everybody hits they they play a really good brand of football. I'm really impressed with Louisville. I'm really impressed with Miami. Miami has a couple of players won. Bubba Bolden from Bishop Gorman. High School playing safety for my Am and Gail and Phillips from AH, transfer from U. C L. A number 15, a defense event from Miami. They both played well on the defensive side of the football for Miami tonight. As Miami goes to Oh, no, I think they're football is important in Miami. They're trying to get their program back to the level that it once wass. It may be difficult with the other team is playing so well in the A. C C now But I certainly take to run a role. I love watching that football game then have. I can't see much at Clemson, but I knew claims it would blow out The Citadel and I know travel. Lawrence had another great day as far as soaring to football a lot of bombs today. Not a big place. Notre Dame was so much improved over what they were a week ago. It's far The way they played in the unit. The way they run, Run the football really impressed with the running backs to really hard running back. They run hard. Plus they not only run are the great receivers to and I like their schemes in their game plan and their formations and their philosophy of their offense, along with the defense. Playing very plain defense, and they didn't have to play or get too complicated to beat South Florida, But they certainly did dominate. I was impressed with Notre Dame Notre Dame. I think Brian Kelly's doing one of his better years. As far as the head football coach at Notre Dame. Not that he doesn't have great talent, but he's been given an extension, and I think that he's more relaxed as Faras is. His coaching is concerned. University of You see up there that's came. You really don't want to schedule in play. Georgia Tech, you know, had a big win last week. But look what happened this week. They play teams. A lot of people don't know what use UCL, but, uh uh, you CF But, boy, they're good. They their home their farm that breed offensive lineman they get off the football. Remember last week George attack before the state 16 to 13. And this week, you know, you see Florida I thought dominate the football game, So I was really impressed with that type of play that I saw and I probably would have had the opportunity of seeing them play. Boston College beats Duke and Duke gave Notre Dame a pretty good game last week. So his Boston college pretty good. They had the opening game, though, want to know? So I don't know Duke so into pit rolls along there, too, and Oklahoma State I thought struggled to get stalled. It didn't have the rhythm. I know my gun is going to get all over. I think the offensive part of their football team. They really didn't look good. Control the ball well that run the football well. I really pulled that game out at the very end of the game, and they're very lucky to do that, because big game has really been embarrassed the last several weeks. By other conferences far as some of the teams and Oklahoma State was tricky, you know? 12 or three as far as a lot of people talking about the big 12 this year, they had 18 attorney started from last year where they had a pretty good year. Now the ganja probably surprised me. The most was navies went over to lane. Navy was completely dominated two weeks ago by BYU 52 to nothing. And I tell you, they really got it together. They beat to 8 27 24 take my hat off to the Navy Academy the way they came back and they played congratulations them. That's basically a quick Uh, we do of what I saw today, Chuck. Well, coach. One of the things that was highlighted today and I have to ask this question. I would be remiss if I didn't. The University of Miami has a turnover chain, and they have a brand new one for the year 2020 in the chain. It's on a 10 carat gold chain. There 4000 sapphires in the charm. Your feelings in regards to What is definitely showboating. It's something to set yourself. Apart from other programs, the U. What about the turnover chain?.

"Welcome back. I'm glad you're here. A lot of conversation jeans back or cough in the final hour on this coaching ranking, which is just about to get some attention here. Let's go to Greg in Alabama. Hey, Paul, thanks for taking my call. Thank you. I wanted to talk about this poll, you just referenced, and yes, everybody's entitled to their opinion and everybody uses different metrics. But some of this is probably just related to you know, Clemson being the team of the day after their win and some Bama fatigue thrown in. So I don't I don't get to about this stuff because it's all going to play out. Paul. Would you agree or disagree with the guy that called in a few minutes ago who who who said that? I mean, it's essentially it's over for Alabama. I would disagree and other than Alabama fan. Give me your reasons why you think the the trend lines are good for Alabama. Well, he still has a top recruiting classes. He's got coaches, he's comfortable with he's lost. He lost one last year. Cautions. If would you currently take. Nick Sabin assistant coaching staff or Davos Sweeney's if you were taking over a football team right now. And you had to choose the the the some of both of of either one you couldn't you couldn't divvied up. You had to take either one which one would you take? Well, I'd probably take devils assistant. Well, that's why I didn't ask you anymore the continuity. Yeah. If you were coaching for the next ten years, we would you take Sabourin or Daboh? Ten years. I take Davo. Okay. I I don't think he's going to because I don't think gonna be coaching in ten years. No. You knew that already. Yes. Okay. I'll make it easier. Five years. I would still take Nick why? Well, I haven't seen him drop off. So I don't I don't I haven't seen any Lebanon's. For smart guy. I know you have a you're you're not you're not answering Anthony answering that question, very analytically. Are you? Well, I mean, you you asked me my opinion is what you I asked you to analyze the question, which you're very good based on your former profession and even your current one. And if you were thinking five years into the future, you would take a flyer on Nick Sabin at seventy three versus a fifty two or three year old dabbled Sweeney with a better coach and easier league analyze it. And similarly, I would say no not in five years. I would say over the next three years. Sure. Okay. So we're now we're now down from ten to threes that fair that's fair. If you were a recruit today. Where would you go? If you're not too confident beyond three years. Would you go to Alabama? Or would you go to Clemson? Well, I think any recruit that was worth his salt. If he knew for fact that Nick wasn't going to be their past three years. What would probably say no to that? How would he know he's going to be there? Well, he doesn't we don't know that example for work. Disagree Greg that this could be one reason why players are gravitating to Clemson. Maybe by a smidgen more than Alabama right now. Maybe not close. I agree wholeheartedly. Okay. So there's not having. Let's go back to the premise. Which I came over what the premise was. But. Was the poll that CEPA put out? Yeah. And by the way, neither one of us know what the guy was thinking when he did it. I mean, if you're doing it right now, there's no way anybody's ahead of Nick Sabin, right? Well, you you had a caller on earlier that said what was the guy that that said Knicks or Knicks hip is going to affect the rest of them. Chiropractor..

"Contains nicotine nicotine is an addictive chemical. This is Jim Rome with a CBS sports minute last night's going to leave a Mark on Nick Sabin can the greatest of all time really get beat like that on the biggest stage. It was essentially accepted. The Nick Sabin was the greatest college coach of all time. But can you really be considered the goat? And then get absolutely wreck like that international title game, Nick Sabin and Alabama were exposed last night. Everywhere you thought they had a strength. Clemson was stronger. Clemson was more physical. Clemson was tougher. Clemson was smarter. Clemson was more athletic. Clemson was more. Composed. And most of all Clemson was better. Coach Nick Sabin was not the best head coach in that game. Davos Sweeney was Nick Sabin wasn't even the best defense mind that game. Brent Venables was can you still be the greatest of all time when you work even close to the greatest in that game? I'm Jim Rome. It's boomer and geo on the fan. If you go go, Josh mccown, porn, these very open about this for him. And you guys were not saying go to bed. Oh. Breakfast. Breakfast. Did you watch anything on TV today? Not porn. Yes. "He was getting the ball where he had to have enormous faith like a pro quarterback in his receivers in his teammates. And something occurred to me watching Davos Sweeney's post-game talking, you know, listening to him. He's a very religious guy. He talked a lot about faith and those guys seem to play with a lot of faith in one another not just this team. But this program we saw it with the Shawn Watson, even the first go round against Alabama in the rematch against Alabama which saw it again last night. The guys played with great faith in each other and expect he expected his receivers. Trevor Lawrence did to make awesome pro style catches last night that seems to me wondering how you feel about this to come from the Hague. Coach it's not just recruiting. It's the kind of culture that he's built there. No question makes built a great coach. And the same thing to be saying because you make a great point nobody steps on the field with the perceived monster of Alabama and becomes the Munster like we hadn't seen that. And that's what Clemson Clemson came into the stadium saying you gotta catch us. You have to match what we're gonna do tonight. We're going to create the big plays. We're gonna pressure your quarterback we go turn the football over our defenses, go show up and get more pressure. That's the thing that really was shocking to me last night for the first time in a long time. The monster was not weighed crimson and white the muster was Clemson. And that was like you say earlier in the show. That's a great thing for college football. It is so wonderful to have somebody else that can look like the monster. Because if this game would have been one thirty four thirty one we would have still say well, Alabama didn't make a couple of plays and they got stopped in the red zone and they were short, but we. Expect them to come back next year beat the same team forty four sixteen changes who to monster is. So every kid that's going to look under the bay open a door in the closet. Football is going to be Clemson staring at you now as opposed to Alabama based on what happened last night. To fail rail all the lead monster was born in one thousand nine hundred ninety nine the last time a true freshman national championship eighty five on believable this kid showed. And he's what six six bright future. I got I gotta say I gotta say this real quick. First of all it's nice to see now, a monster that Nick Sabin. We'll have to chase that's gonna make as being the other way around. The other thing is I got I got one of my boys. And you know, I'm on national television. I actually block them because he gets on my damn nerve. Because he thinks he knows everything what. But he did say at the beginning of the season. Clemson was going beat Alabama for the national championship. My boy champ congratulates I'm not real block in the beginning. I'm gonna go back to block in the because he's on eight. You do that markets. We appreciate you..

"My family is very comfortable putting roots in this program, and that's a testament to Davos Sweeney, and I did a piece yesterday a future power rankings where I I looked at different categories and overall I gave the edge to Alabama which look great right now. But from the coaching staff standpoint, I said as remarkable as it is for saving to bring a new coordinators every year and new analysts and whoever it is. It's more remarkable that Davos Sweeney has created a culture at Clemson that assistant coaches who could easily have moved on all three of those coordinators should have head coaching jobs by now, but none of them do. And that's why I big reason why I think they're in such great shape. Not just for now. But for many years to come because it's not a place, that's going through assistance. You're in year out. I did love this one tweet guys not to poke too much fun at Alabama today. It was Zach Jackson last night on Twitter. It was just something to the effect of the looks on all on the faces of all thirty three Alabama assistant coaches tonight. Many to that effect. It was very very funny while we're on the topic of the staffs I like to make a bigger point on the head coaches here, and Adam you, and I were doing this wrap up podcast the day after Alabama Georgia last year and a lot of people were heaping praise on Nick Sabin for having the guts to make that change at halftime and out. Jalen hurts go to to obviously made the difference. And I remember your comment was well, yeah. But it was also kind of a no brainer. It was you didn't really have a choice. If you wanted to win the game. That was the decision you had to make and I think a little bit lost. And all this is a very similar decision that Daboh Sweeney had to make a few months ago that was not an easy decision. Just like it wasn't for Sabin and last year championship game. But it was the decision. He had to make for his team to win a national title. And that was to make Trevor Lawrence his starting quarterback. And that was the difference in the game last night last year again. Alabama. Clemson did nothing ofensive Lii. And one of the reasons is they did not have that downfield passing threat Kelly Bryant in that game was over four on passes fifteen yards or more downfield from the line of scrimmage last night. Trevor Lawrence was four of seven on those throws for one hundred and thirty something yards. It wasn't just completing them. Once again, these were these were completions for big plays. It really seemed like it was more than that. I went back and looked and he had a few that were you had one that was twelve yards downfield and other was thirteen yards downfield that ended up gaining big yards as well. But the point being that Trevor Lawrence was able to stretch that Alabama defense in a way that Kelly Bryant could not and keep in mind, Clemson once again was not able to establish the Ron against Alabama. It was all on that true. Freshman quarterback to make the plays. If he had not made the place. Alabama either loses a low scoring game or they win. But Clemson does not do what they did offense without Trevor Lawrence in there. And so I think it was even more phenomenal his performance when you consider that it was all on his shoulders because they weren't able to run the ball. But once again, I give credit to Daboh for having the guts to make the decision that was best for his team a month into the season. And he did that and it paid off last night. He has continued to make great decisions not only player personnel, but coaching personnel as well. And just the different coordinator, changes hirings, firings. The reactions the pro actions that he has had has been remarkable. And you nailed it may last year. You saw why to replace Jalen hurts at halftime..

"Hagans touchdown. The tigers. Reclaim their crown by forcing Alabama. Crushing talk about thoroughly dismantling what many thought was juggernaut in the Alabama crimson tide. Forty four to sixteen for its second national championship in three years. And this team is the first to go fifteen in in one hundred and twenty one years the last the Quakers of Penn in eighteen ninety seven and Clinton did it in every facet of the game. From the stifling defense to an offense where everything clicked thanks to Trevor Lawrence has coming out party three hundred and forty seven passing yards three touchdowns. No interceptions. Thoroughly out playing his Alabama counterpart to a tongue of Isla to become the second. True freshman to win the title and getting a huge assist after cyst with catches like this from Justin Ross now when it was all said and done Davos Sweeney. He drank it all in. We're going to enjoy this. When we got a nice fun to put it in our facility right by that other one. I'll. I'll be rooting. Ability. We got twins. I really thought coming in. I mean, Alabama is Alabama. I mean, it's unbelievable. But I like we had the better team. I felt like our leadership. Are real to win. I could just sit Lawrence now star running back. Travis NTN most of that volunteer defense, and of course, Sweeney they're all coming back next year. So is there a new juggernaut in town? Meanwhile, bama's forced to look at self in the mirror. The stunner in this game was a first for Sabin. But for all the wrong reasons, the twenty eight point loss with savings worsted Bama, and it's personal worse since two thousand four when he was still at LSU. It was also the first game in which a team scored thirty straight against him. So what does this law say about this team? We looked a lot of money on the table. But design time, you know, one game doesn't define who you are. We're all disappointed that we weren't able to finish the way we wanted to finish. And we certainly didn't play the way we're capable of plan to night and of people betting on Bama left. A lot of money on the table to Cali Harvey is there in Clemson right there in the middle of the action and Coley, you're in downtown Clemson last night, set the scene for what it looked like there. Yeah. You know, Ryan. I mean the street that I'm standing in right now. This is college avenue downtown Clemson. And it was jam packed full of people just students all out here. I talked with the fire fire department. Fire officials, and they said about twelve thousand people were right here in this area. Going crazy going nuts. Some of the law enforcement officials who had talked to. They also said that people are actually considering the circumstances on their best behavior. They had bark at a couple of people to get off trees and light Paul's. They did that very quickly otherwise a chaotic scene as as the fans celebrated their second national championship in three seasons. And these people do not think that this is the end. Wow. And what our students you got some of them around you there on their best behavior. I appreciate that. But what are they feeling students people in the community about the future of this football program? They're feeling really good. Like, you said, right. We've got actually a lot of people who are standing all up and down this sidewalk over here. Here the people on the other side wants, but a lot of the folks who have taught to here in the last thirteen hours. So felt so good about where this program is headed because they think that this is the next college football dynasty, and the fact that they stole that championship from Alabama. Maybe not Stolz the right word, but they took that championship from Alabama the other night that that really approved that this team is is on the rise. And everyone you talk to their pointing at Trevor Lawrence pointing Travis city end there pointing at devils twenty as being the reasons why this program is going to continue not just with what it did this year. But for years to come all, right and big celebration plan for tonight coli. Thank you so much say, thank you..

"You'd be very happy. Our seniors at northwestern one thirty six games in the last four years, that's wonderful for northwestern. Clinton won fifty five fifty. Four. Yeah. This fifty five and four in the last four years and this by the way this championship game started this one the one that just concluded this one started last year in the same championship game. When Nick Sabin took Jalen hurts out and said, you know, what I'm going to have to go over the top my kid can pass. He's a great leader. He can run. He can't pass. We're putting to it in and he won that game. And what happened was this year? The teams that finished. Well, you thought second and third but now first and fourth probably Notre Dame Brian Kelly in third game of the year said I'm getting rid of my guy a runner I'm putting any in book and they weren't undefeated. Now, they got crushed. But who did they get crushed by ladies and gentlemen, they got crushed by Clemson. Okay. Great team. So and and Clemson Davos Sweeney said I got. A great player here. I'm getting rid of him in game four because I want to win the national championship. And we're going to play them. We're gonna play to win the national championship. Golden State Cleveland. We know we're going to play them. I gotta go to a two freshmen who can pass by the way six this is the point on everybody's freshman play. Now, this this doesn't know when we were growing up in freshmen didn't play for two, you know, they play. Now he was adorable during the whole game. I'm always watching the sidelines and watch him when they're not on the field. And they usually understand we looked pretty stress pretty well. End up pretty tight every time the cameras on him when he was from the big smile. Face isn't this fun on shine from look like sunshine Ronny best? This is this is they lost Alabama loss by twenty eight across. That's the most thing ever lost under say in any game beatdown tone on. Probably time to for saving to move on. You have to consider swinging this. There are now that urban Meyer is no longer coaching a lot of guys for the moment. There's a lot of guys who have won Sweeney's the only guy other than Sabin. That's got more than one. And who did he beat twice saving? He.

"End Jeep entire territory with very likely victory formation. Fifty fifty. With this senior class the Tigers reclaimed her. Alabama. Davos sweeney. May you don't know this? But at one point he and his mother were homeless, and he went from homeless to a walk on player in college to now, a multimillionaire, he is like the American dream times. Ten he's hard on a Clemson people said that was a bad higher. I mean, he has to fight for everything. And I read about his mom, I didn't I didn't know this. But his mom was so severely disfigured and crippled when she was growing up she had some sort of disorder that for years her body was so curved that her face would touch her feet. She couldn't straighten out her back. She has scoliosis. It didn't say she was temporarily. Paralyzed. Yes. She also she had scoliosis. She had polio as a young child and then after ten years more treatment a couple surgeries to straighten her spine. She walked out of the hospital that their family is to me, very inspirational. Sure. So football. Aspect to it. And all that. But it's someone who believes in themselves, and as a family, they didn't make excuses that you're homeless you can say, well, we don't have that. They don't have opportunities. We're going to do the bare minimum, you know, maybe not work or whatever. No one would blame her with her situation. But he's a heck of a coach a heck of a story, and he's very likable. I liked the team even more. I hate Alabama already. But you know, I'm not a Clemson fan per se fan of Dabo Sweeney. This morning. We were we heard I heard the name Daboh. And I thought well what's that short for? I asked Jared. Yes. We didn't know. So we very very kind AML's all morning listeners have been sending us messages all morning. So apparently, Dabo is the nickname that his parents gave him as an infant because his eighteen month old sibling older sibling couldn't pronounce that. Boy, Daboh end, so Dabo stuck Davos meetings. "The guys that are able to do that, you know, improve more quickly and become more ready to play. And I think Trevor Lawrence in particular has done a phenomenal job for his team this year and his ability to execute and certainly doesn't play like a first or look like a first minute. If anybody ever watched them, they wouldn't think he was a freshman. Now, saving has certainly pass that message on to all of his defense linebacker Dylan. Moses says they have to make Trevor Lawrence uncomfortable. A guy that's completed sixty five percent of his passes over the course of the season has to feel the pressure is what the defense is saying. Now, let's check in with Tom and all the who's covering the Clemson Tigers. Davos Sweeney was to sink describing clemson's previous runs to the national championship game two thousand fifteen to him was a blur 2016 was grind twenty eighteen. He's used one single word to try to describe what he calls the full adventure. Of the season more than any other joy. And that perhaps can be the antidote to the pressure of the moment. It doesn't matter who we play. How did you play? And we have a great and accountability. And so now, the sudden you don't you don't really get caught up in the logo of the team that you're playing you just try to play the very best that you can is. So when you get in these moments where there's a huge game late in the season. Both teams are undefeated a lot on the line, whatever it's just the next big moment because every week has been a huge moment. One of the biggest sources of Sweeney's joy without question is this particular senior class the winningest not only in school history..

"Now, he's not a team any more. So you can understand both sides. But he follows the Niners, for example on Instagram unfolds. The Steelers this seems like a volatile situation and one that is getting. In worse. What would you do if you're the Steelers? He follow the Niners. He bobby. He followed the Niners. Yes. That is actually Larry's in so petty. But I love it. I think that his messages being spread in her loud and clear, I'm not sure what's going to happen that situation because the has a twenty million dollars cap hit whether he plays whether they trade him. So I would imagine that they're going to keep him because that's a guaranteed one hundred receptions in thousand yards in at least ten touchdowns. So they have interesting scenario dilemma on their hands in terms of figuring out what they're gonna do. But the receiving core. Obviously James Connors, very good running back. But they can't lose lady on Balian Antonio Brown on that. That's a great idea. Yeah. No. I I agree with you. I think what's interesting is like juju had an all pro caliber year and it just a second season. So he, you know, it's not like he can't be a number one guy, but to lose Brown and bell would be borderline catastrophic. Did you feel like like like you sympathize for Brown? When a former teammate says that or do you understand it? I didn't hear the story that was said about him. But it's obvious. There's some bad blood between them because certain situations and scenarios are shared, whether you're analysts you not gonna keep those in private, depending on the relationship and friendship. You have with the player. But it's obvious that they not really France. Because that they were he probably wouldn't share the story if it was right? A hurtful or going to paint him in a negative light. Well, that just tells me that down the road, you know, five ten years all I will probably be telling insider pull up stories. I'm sure they'll all be appropriate and pay me in the best of light. But it's going to be a nice playoff run to wash. Are are you suggesting the Alabama is gonna win? It all you sold on Alabama winning at all I'm with you on Clemson. I I like them. I think they have everything you'd want. Love the quarterback Trevor Lawrence Davos Sweeney.
