"Yes, I went to um I think the first time I went to england was 2009 But this was after I decided to walk away from the whole celebrity music industry um thing I dibbled and dabbled for a while, but I decided that that wasn't what I wanted to do anymore and um, it just I didn't have What's the word i'm looking for? Um, I needed more and I needed to understand more and I felt that At that point in my life and everything I had did up to there. I was just a black hair stylist So when I would reach out to because before fashion weeks and all of that But before that when I would reach out to companies like oh, I wanna um, you know get on your team I want to start getting interested in brands and I want to do this. I want to do that I can help teach to educate and a lot of the brands were like, oh no, you're a black hair stylist I'm like what i'm gonna answer. Oh my god, but but the industry is very segregated at that time so just like um So many artists That we know um Through um our history That they have they decided to leave. Um, america Like um when I was younger When I was younger, um, I used to admire the fact that patrick kelly was in Paris and and he was doing so well and then um, there was another designer at willie smith Who also went to europe, you know at the time? and um James baldwin, you know what I mean? There's so many great creators had to leave a miracle or decided to leave america to not not to just understand that they were Great at what they did But was it great because you are a black hair stylist or you are great because you are a hair stylist Are you great because you are a black designer or you're great because you are a good designer? I absolutely Yes, go ahead, please finish your thoughts. What do you think so? So going so going to europe for me was a chance. I just decided one day Um a friend of mine who um had salons over there was like, yeah Could you come help manage manage my salons and teach my staff and I was like sure and I just went I just left Um, my mother was like, where are you going? I'm going to english. What are you going to do? I'm going to english Yeah, wow, I don't I don't know but i'm going so I ended up i've ended up going to europe and in that time um, I saw That there was a need for education big time in The area there were some great hair stylists and some great stylists who invested into the education, but the general rule Um was a lot of salons that didn't have so what I did so at some point Um, uh lauriel had launched mazani and I got on board with lauriel mazani and I helped To build that brand amongst the um Afro caribbean community in england along with other um, really well-known hair stylists over in bouquet And that's a big big community. Let me just say I have been to england. I've been to london i've seen it's a huge community folks Uh, and this is a big deal Yes So I am just i'm blown away. This is uh, some great Great information, uh great things that we can hang our hat on and and um, i'm kind of picturing all of this as you're describing uh describing it I think Yeah, I mean, it's just it's phenomenal to me that you've had this storied career it's just been you know, it's not I I know like you said earlier and I love what you said because Uh, yes, it's on paper. Yes, and even you know in talking about it. Yes. It's it did have a whole Bunch of wonderful moments, but you you've you know, like I said, I love that you've always kept a mind and reality it seems with this and You know a good way to look at everything and just remember to be an inspiration to others And that's what seems to really push through with your story today Listen, I gotta remind the folks because every so often we get a few new listeners on And I want to say today is my a very very special guest is joining me and i'm so happy I'm, so happy. I'm going to tell you why in a moment. His name is eugene davis and I love your website eugene davis dot hair Not.com dot hair So I love that as well. We'll talk about that Just a bit. But uh, you've just been just making such a difference in in the hair and beauty world So this is really awesome and you knew you connected with everybody. I mean you've named some huge stars eugene You really have i'm like, okay Wow So, uh, this is nice. So what is this? Journey, what is it? You know? Does what does it still mean to you? What does it mean to you? I should say at this point because they're you know, it has changed I believe but maybe you might not Get so maybe you might think it's changed quite a bit or not changed so much. What are your thoughts eugene today? Um, I do I think the industry has changed Um, there's a lot that goes on now that would not have been tolerated before Um, so I I believe now with all that diversity the inclusion um all of the People opening up and asking questions to big corporate america about especially the beauty industry and the hair industry about inclusion about Having us present I think that's a big thing right now And um, and I think that um, we we as a community as a hair community Still need to keep our voices relevant. We need we need to still speak out on the injustices and Inequality that we see in the beauty industry because it's still there and we're still Uh Knocking on doors, which is which we should never stop doing but we need to stop pushing those doors open too In order for us to let others come through So I think for me where I am and in my career and everything i've done I like I said, I want to be a glass ceiling breaker So if that there's a glass ceiling i'm going to break it. Come on everybody. Let's go. You know what I mean? But when we get into it I'm holding you accountable to do the right thing so that you can prepare the way for the next person behind you And that's what's so important to me. And that's where I am today. So everything i've done Everything i've touched is for someone to read it and be inspired to know that. Oh my god. I can do that Because he did it I can do it You know, so that's my message. That's what i'm loving this. What is next for you? Okay, I got a few projects um In the mix, but I believe that right now i'm really concentrating on getting my messaging out talking to people like yourself or the media, um To keep inspiring people that we can do better and and just showing them the way and how to get there and helping them Navigate to wherever their their passion and whatever their dream or whatever their desire is Um because I've touched so many areas if I can help you get there if I can support you and and and save you some of the um Headaches that I had then i'm i'm going to i'm going to show you how to get there but I think my next thing is I want to um I don't know. They will get her back on in just a bit, but nothing can come between us Michael hopkins you are out in virginia. So you've been listening to the show It is friday morning. It's fan day friday It's all kind of fun stuff going on we've been having all kind of crazy stuff. Hold up michael. Uh, Are you there hopkins? Oh very much. So carrie Okay, let's watch. Uh, it sounds like there was some some stuff going on there I'm, just happy to have you with us michael as we kind of close out the show today It's been a week trying to work on some of the technical stuff and this is unusual. That's been almost every day We've had some level of technical issues, but we have persevered which is what we share with you each day to do I've been doing this show for almost 30 years and It is always you're gonna have times where you have technical things. We've had to grow with Technology remember when I started out there was no social media so This is really something that has grown over time and i've been did with the time So as they say we might we might bend but we don't break so very much You know, I don't know folks give us the credit we deserve on that because we really have we started out in 1995 And we have been around since 1995 in one way or another Then as the morning show kicked off back in 2015 We've been on the air with block talk since 2015 michael, that's a long time That's a very long time Yes, so we're closing on a thousand shows of just that by itself So I just uh, you know I'm, i'm very pleased with where we are And uh, we're gonna just keep on going trying to see oh, yeah marching towards that thousand shows We might yeah Uh guys just stay with us if you hear some strengths if we're trying to trying out some little technical stuff here And see what's going on On the show as well. Uh, yeah, it's been very interesting And uh, we're just real happy and and grateful Remember, we want you guys to be aware one week from today the new afro lot will debut for the month of There's a whole lot of new stuff going on that you have not seen before in the upcoming issue It's not just the same business as usual michael hofkin Oh, yeah Now I don't know if folks realize that The vet talk radio show You will be rolling into your next season and that's coming up in the next couple of weeks So you'll have a new broadcast Uh airing on tuesday the 29th of august and then uh, you have your special episodes that will be back-to-back episodes Uh replayed of the the vet talk radio show the day after the holiday. So that's early tuesday that early tuesday morning rather following labor day There's a vet talk marathon That'll air And it's the first time we're doing this. So let's let's make it work Okay, because if it's not successful, we probably won't do it anytime soon again, so please make sure folks are tuned in And make sure that folks know that this is what's happening All right, and all of our hair radio morning show folks and fans i'll put something out, but I hope you join us for the vet talk episode and Remember that we'll be back on on wednesday with our regular programming So that's kind of what I wanted to hear about I think that's very much very much so Very very much so You know, they're going to be You know, those are some really classic Episodes that we did with vet talk radio. Well, this is the special that we're running which is the eight part series on the Top terms, so it's really all the whole day. That's what that will be about So it's kind of easy to focus And oh, yeah very much so Top terms very important in the claims world Very very important in the world Yeah, I enjoyed it and um, it's good to have this as a replay Oh, yeah, yes it is Yeah, yes it is carrie And this is just something that with these top terms carrie, this is just something that Veterans should know and even if you're not a veteran if you're an advocate for veterans or if you're just a family member And you don't really understand the claims and compensation process these top terms will give you an overview of The the process the claims process and what certain things mean sometime I have veterans that You know carrie I received they received paperwork from the va from the claims section and They don't fully understand The paperwork that they receive and the va is telling them to do something And they don't fully comprehend and that's where these top terms come in for veterans Well, they're going through I think It just reminds me michael.

"The governor in Southern California yesterday. I'm going to make this as simple as I can. You either Keep Gavin Newsom measure Governor. Mhm or you'll get Donald Trump when he says you'll get Donald Trump. He is referring to Larry Elder and you're about to hear from him. He's the Republican front runner, Larry Elder. He had several campaign stops in Southern California yesterday and criticized Governor Newsom's handling of the pandemic man shut down the state while ignoring science having his own kids enjoying in person, private education each other down in person education for government educated kids. 80% of whom are black. And Brown and elder went on to say that he is confident heading into today. I've been asked all day. Will you accept the results of the election? I think you're asking the wrong question. I said, Well, Gavin Newsom accept the results of the election when he loses the polls close at eight o'clock. Our coverage begins here at seven o'clock tonight with Kitty O'Neil, my glory and some strategists. You had mentioned that the Gavin campaign you'd have some sort of statement from them. Okay. Here it is. This is from Newsome. Strategist Sean Clegg. Quote. I don't see A scenario where we are not talking about a victory for the governor and a complete rejection of this Appalling partisan power grab. I always love when they used the part of the partisan power ground as if they don't want power themselves. Um, I don't think that Mr Clegg, this strategist understands that both sides are trying to grab power here. They were both like some power. They are power grabbers H o that needs to be good T shirt. You know, I mean, really, the partisan power grab me a break. Oh, so at any rate What they are just short of guaranteeing a victory in the Newsome camp this they're very confident. And you know, there are more Democrats in the state that Republicans so their their their odds are good. Oh, no, no, no. The numbers are way on their side. And as we pointed out all morning long they raised more than $70 million brought up the president, United States. They threw the kitchen sink at this race. Which is which raises another question. How is it that Governor Newsom got himself in that much of a pickle? Well, you know that he that they had to do all of those things and that the polls were as close as they were one month ago. And who knows if they really just like him, or they're so concerned that Dianne Feinstein might not be there and then they're going to have a Republican named and then that will change the whole balance of Congress. Well, what we'll see. And then there's the editorial board from the San Francisco Chronicle this morning, issuing this warning saying, Hey, if you think that this is in the bag for Newsome, forget it. I mean that we That we could lose this. And when I say we we know who the San Francisco editorial board wants to win. And so maybe they're trying to scare up the base to who knows? I mean, we're getting a variety of opinions on this, But, you know, Election Day, no matter what happens is always excited. It is it is, yeah, like covering it. 8 50 is a time out to the road, Everybody Williams and traffic bronzes by U. C. Davis Health 80 Westbound Roosevelt. "We When we put that bundle together, we don't see a very great outcome for our district, our state and for this country altogether, and so With that being said, You know what? We gather the story. We tell the story and we get people to apply common sense. And then we start moving back towards the ideals that held America and made us great. We move towards American exceptionalism, and I do believe that at the core of everyone, regardless of how you vote or identify politically, everyone wants the freedom to make their own decisions. And right now, with this far left in their extreme ideals were moving further and further away from that, and I do believe that people see that the last question was going to be for Leslie Davis, Cicely Davis dot com The Biden effect and you've already alluded to that he's doing horribly. What he just did in Afghanistan is disgusting. What we're seeing him say when he walks out and ever says anything. He's fumbling all over himself. He's afraid of his handlers Get in trouble. If I answer your question, he falls asleep in front of world leaders. This has to help to boost your candidacy, right? I mean, he is the king. Of what Ellen Omar is representing. He's the Boston Democrat Party. Correct. And so you know, if you are voting blue, um you're probably hanging your head a little low, or you're at least questioning things. And so you know what? What happens is it allows us to maybe turn some blue people purple, get them to the table and have a conversation. They're just simple things that you can't ignore. And so with that we're riding on it. We're saying, Hey, this isn't really a shake your finger. And I told you so. But what we can say is that you know what on the red side You know what? We're upholding the ideals that make America great and strong. We're not interested in taking away your rights. Your right to vote. In fact, we want to honor it. We want to honor your freedoms. You know what? Let's find a way that we can work together. But we do need you to swing a little more to the right Because right now left extremists will have us towards socialism. And I I guarantee you no one wants that kind of agenda here in America. Absolutely. Sicily Davis Com Cicely Davis mn on Twitter simply. I appreciate you coming on. Will you do it again? Absolutely. Any time you ask. The answer is already yes. Wonderful. I appreciate that. And best of luck in Minnesota. I hope you win. We're back after this. Stay right here. This.

"Do I have to believe that you can. Otherwise I wouldn't run this race. Uh, So that's why I'm here. The run for me here in the fist, Ristic, Minnesota is personal to me. I'm a resident of Minneapolis is still the vitality and the sustainability of Minneapolis is absolutely personal, and it's something I'm very vested in. What we need to do is to I understand that there has been a mass exodus and for those people, you know what if they look back, and they want to come on back By all means? We welcome that. What we're talking about is leadership. And right now we're suffering under failed leadership were suffering under field leadership from Ilhan Omar as a congresswoman, And as you mentioned, we talked about our governor, our mayor, and so what we need to do is change the expectation with regard to leadership and get people to understand that Minneapolis is not by any means lost. There is someone who's in this fight. Who's willing to bring in Real policies to address real issues and that though we've been voting for a certain way since 1963 I'm a real fighter, and if they can believe that Minneapolis isn't all loss, and he did not give up hope that that can be Minneapolis can be returned to its greater to its greatness, and I believe that we can. That's why I'm in this fight Cicely Davis comments or website going, check out her candidacy and hopefully you'll support her candidacy. We watched a lot of business has burned to the ground looting rioting. Many of those Businesses were minority owned minorities in this country have been fold into believing that they're Democrats. They're not black people. Hispanics. I'm Italian. I'm not really a minority, but I'm Southern Italian white supremacist hate me. Um, we are conservative people were generally speaking Christian were anti abortion. Where we're pro family were pro going to church on Sundays. How can we Convince people in the minority communities who are suffering the most in Minneapolis today that Ellen Omar is not the right answer that far. Left wing progressivism isn't the right answer. Some government check isn't the right answer. Opening a business and and doing for yourself is the right answer. Can we? Can we turn things around? Because minorities have been tricked for about a century now? Absolutely, and that again, That's an issue that's personal to me. I'm a minority. We asked the question. You know, you really pulls the question. If you really want to have your business is, if you really want to turn things around and have generational wealth, Then you have to just start having those conversations and you get people to really answer some questions. If you are wanting generational wealth, and we defund the police, what is going to happen and you start getting people to start looking around corners and forecasting. If if I d from the police, no one will be there to protect my business. Then what we're going to see is businesses will leave in mass numbers. Once that happens, we'll see people leave. And they will go to rural areas. They will go to other states. And, of course, because if you are Ilhan Omar and the squad and far left, they certainly don't believe in you having guns. You won't even be able to have a gun to even protect yourself. So in the end, what you end up with is another Detroit or Philadelphia or Chicago. Is that what you want? And so what I'm talking about is getting people to sit down, calm down, have an actual conversation and start getting people to forecast and look around corners. I believe that if you pose those kind of common sense, quite Questions. I believe that can open the door for people to start seeing what they really truly want, and then we can have breakthrough. It's Sicily. Davis, Cicely Davis dot com Running for District five Republican, The Great State of Minnesota. Um, I love this tweet that you sent out on the sixth of that's yesterday. Pro tip. Don't trust the politician who wants to disarm you while defunding the police. You've got the Keith Ellison's of the world and that guy is the top cop in your state. His son is on the City Council in Minneapolis. They're both antifa guys. Keith Ellison literally said. If you've been Raped and the rapist leaves the scene. Don't call the police call a counselor. That guy has already gone. That's how nuts it is. These are people that are protected by good guys with guns all the time, and we're finding the elite class people like the Ellison's and others who have their own private security. So you can defund the police all day with them, And they're fine. What about the residents of Minneapolis? So when you hear people say, defund the police and it's and it's permeating into the neighborhood? And then you realize that you then have nobody to protect you. But the elites are protected. How do you bring that to the fore in the neighborhoods who might not know that that's going on. Right. So you start telling stories and those people in those neighborhoods? No. Those stories they know about the three girls that died within nine days in North Minneapolis. One was sitting in the back of her car having a happy meal. And so no one is happy with those kind of circumstances. And no one wants to live with that. 77% of the residents, particularly in Minneapolis, are not for defund the police. I'm since December 20th the City Council. As you said, Defunded, the police by $18 Million and what we're seeing is shootings, homicides and Carjackings have gone up 251, 105 and 222%. I'm not sure that everyone is aware of that. That's the story that we need to tell if you are a resident of Minneapolis and you do not feel safe riding your bike, walking your dog or even standing with your child on the corner. Waiting for the bus. Right? Then you need to take a look at how you're voting. Look at your leaders and start making a different choice..

I'm going to play you the video now. I would like to begin by addressing the heinous attack on the United States Capitol Like all Americans, I am outraged by the violence, lawlessness and mayhem. Immediately deploy the National Guard. And federal law enforcement to secure the building and expel the intruders. America is and must always be a nation of law and order. The demonstrators who infiltrated the capital have defiled the seat of American democracy to those who engaged in the acts of violence and destruction. You do not represent our country And to those who broke the law you will pay. We have just been through an intense election and emotions are high. But now tempers must be cooled and calm restored. We must get on with the business of America. My campaign vigorously pursued every legal avenue to contest the election results. My only goal was to ensure the integrity of the vote. And so doing, I was fighting to defend American democracy. I continue to strongly believe that we must reform our election laws to verify the identity and eligibility of all voters and to ensure faith and confidence in all future elections. Now Congress has certified the results and new administration will be inaugurated on January. 20th. My focus now turns to ensuring.

"Political correspondent Ed O'Keefe is reporting from the network seen as senior foreign affairs correspondent Margaret Brennan, that Cabinet secretaries President Trump's administration are discussing invoking the 25th amendment to remove the president from office. There's been nothing formal presented to President Vice President Mike Pence, though. The report said. Meantime, Sakamoto Congresswoman Doris Matsui is joining those calling for vice president Pence to invoke the 25th amendment and convene the Cabinet to remove Donald Trump from office. It's 6 17 now at KFBK Well, Democrats have swept the Georgia run off elections today, giving the party control of both chambers of Congress and the White House later this month. Kate Decays Joe Michaels is live in studio with local reaction. Well, Kitty after Raphael Warnock was called the winner last night in his bid to oust Republican Kelly Leffler, the major networks air today, projecting Jonno Soffa winner over David Perdue. The results leave the Senate in a 50 50 deadlock, giving soon to be vice president Kamila Harris, the tie breaking vote and the Democrats control of both chambers of Commerce and the White House. KFBK Ace political analyst Gary Dietrich says the ramifications are immense, but it's going to be a huge backlog A big wish list as they call it a new here these two words often in the next few weeks and months go big. Democrats know that just 22 months Now we're gonna have a midterm election that based on historical trends and current presidents, Republicans could well retake control of one if not both of these palaces. The Dietrich says the president elect is likely to take a bipartisan approach. Joe Biden knows very well. If he just goes all in on an agenda completely alienate Republicans. All that is going to do it further stoke the furnace for Republicans. And by the way, that is not Joe Biden style. That wasn't his style when he was U. S senator was this Sally Morning this vice President Dietrich believes Democratic control will benefit Californians, particularly when it comes to battling covered 19. You're gonna see money, almost certainly. Going to state and local governments and a covert response that we haven't seen to date. It's gonna take a lot of pressure off of our legislator in the governor who want to do more. There's a lot of ways that this state can use funding to move forward, even administration of vaccines. Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg says Democratic majorities will result in direct day to the capital city and surrounding region. We're going to be able to keep our public safety personnel working, and we're going to be able to fill holes and fill gaps. May be able to provide those essential services to people. We're going to be able to invest in an affordable housing strategy, and in more resource is for our neighborhoods in economic development. Mayor Steinberg is also pleased with the potential bigger picture. Most importantly, it's going to give president like fighting the opportunity to govern. Certainly not with large majorities. They're still gonna have to work across the aisle, and that's the Bible away. But at least he will have a better opportunity of not facing direct obstruction, and I think it's a good thing. Dietrich believes President elect Joe Biden will face tremendous pressure on many agenda items that Democrats want to move on and move on quickly. Question is going to be how Biden responds to what I'm going to be a very long list of demands not only from his own party in Congress. But from legislatures and governorships controlled by Democrats around the country, including large states have been very impacted. Like California All in all, it appears the final set elections. All in all, it appears the final set of elections for the upcoming term are opening the door for Democrats and likely to save the affordable care act, at least through the mid terms getting all right. The Distraction of Technology & How To Live In The Moment

"Olinda by Josie Michelle Davis of Josie. Michele Davis DOT COM. Hiking through the rain forest can be a magical thing. The lush greenery all around the far off sounds of bird. You've only ever seen in a zoo chatting with one another the light ray on your face, and the deep smell of Mossy rocks. Was Not so magical is getting stuck in a downpour under a lean to with a woman named Linda who insists on calling everyone. She's ever met and loudly talking to them about how her arthritis is putting a bit of a damper on her dating life. I don't mind rain for few minutes million and stood together under the lean to watching the rainfall with only the steady beats of drops falling around us. Love the sound of rain, probably because I'm fairly privileged, Weicker, whose only really bad experiences with rain were when it put a bit of a damper on our families day at Epcot and I had to buy children's large sweatpants because my jeans got soaked through seriously, though why does it always rain on Epcot Day I mostly fine rainstorms charming in even calming, and was perfectly happy to stand with. My husband's arms wrapped around me watching the rain until it slowed. And then Linda came I'll standing on the edge of the lean to looking down the hill, when a middle aged woman came towards me, waving frantically and yelling. I found. You is still attempted to hide behind frank, which doesn't work so well since I'm a nearly six foot tall shreve ago, the woman quickly realized that me and my husband were not the date that she had lost on the mountain, but decided it was best to hang out with US under the shelter, anyway. I did what I always do. Awkward social situations an promptly pretended I'm deaf mute and have no way of communicating with other humans so I might as well just face the opposite direction and watch the rain. Some are and hope you don't insist on talking to me. Linda was not hindered by us, not budding up to her, though even though we were thousands of feet up the side of a mountain, she somehow had the teeny tiniest bit of reception on her cell phone, which made it possible for her to voice to text. Leave rambling voicemails and call everyone she's ever met. We heard all about her date that presumably had abandoned her and left her for dead in a Puerto Rican rainforest. We heard about how she was aggressively trying to get a CO worker to spend more time with her. Despite this woman spurring her advances, her words by the way, and we heard her lament about how tough dating is when you have arthritis in your hands. It was awkward to say the least after five minutes that felt more like an hour. We decided to venture into the pouring rain and hike as swiftly as we could down the mountain in fear that Linda might catch up to us, and we would be forced to listen to more phone calls and dictated text messages. I couldn't help but think how incredible it is that you would hike through the rainforest in still be unable to put your phone down and enjoy what's around you, but if I'm totally honest with myself, I do that, too sure. I don't make phone calls unless absolutely necessary. Why can't doctors just text you anyway? And I certainly am not going to voice to text in public when my hands are perfectly free. I mean come on guys. Why even bother texting at that point, but I'm sure way more often than I realize I'm standing somewhere amazing and beautiful. Too Busy scrolling through Instagram to even notice. I'm not someone who thinks technology is evil, quite the opposite in fact I have no desire to get rid of my iphone or live in some remote cabin without Internet I think all of that stuff is awesome. Actually I believe instagram has truly pushed me creatively. I love that I can check out an e book or Audio Book for my library and read it right on my phone. Heck without the Internet and aim I wouldn't have had half my boyfriend's. The real question is am I able to disconnect when real life calls am I able to put down my phone and enjoy the sound of rain in the actual rainforest when his right there in front of me. I really hope so, but maybe Linda was there to remind me to pay attention and not miss out on what's happening. So thanks Linda I really. We'll try to be more present this year, and also we'll try my best to avoid arthritis by whatever means necessary.
