Stanford's Dick Gould on College Tennis

"Indulge. My my pet peeve with college tennis and stanford steer clear of this so You're not to be implicated but you look at some of these rosters and you look at where look players come from. And i always say if you're the iowa the minnesota indiana athletic director and you've got to make some cuts and you see one of your teams has eight guys from out of the country and nobody from in state. You're making my job a lot easier when the the budget ax falls on the other hand. You know we're globalist internationalists and we want to be beyond. Yeah that's a great question. Where where do you come down. You know it's really interesting. Because we'll go. For junior goal before it came to stanford and i never had a foreigner at stanford way gave a scholarship to not for any reason but i was able to get the top americans and as long as i can do that. Knew the families and everything. It was a safer bet for me. But i wasn't above a foreigner. I mean we had some foreigners our team. We came on their own. When i was in junior college we went a couple of state championships with a german player on a mexican davis cup's player on the other. And so i'm not above it So everyone thought. I wasn't but i was able to get the top american soy stuck with that that'd be also served on the advocacy committee for the integrated ten association for a long period of time. And and the first thing. I would do when when school is going to drop a program Debate one two or three two women did matter is to the roster and call it up online and see how what percentage of the team was four. If the team had more than two foreigners who appeared to be starting team in good faith. I do not feel like write a letter to a state institution and who's paying taxes. So these kids go to school and good. Faith advocate for it if they had a couple of foreigners. Okay but if they had a team of four four or five four hundred starting. I couldn't do it. And i was on a committee with the understanding. I would not write letters that circumstance. So i think that's a hard thing and i think Sometimes you cut her own throat doing that and on the other hand john we forget we were off sometime. We all we all we all forget that we all came from somewhere a we're all immigrants and and all of us essentially and and so we have been told her that we have to appreciate that and i in all my years a coaching i never saw a foreigner a foreign player abuse the system i they were turned out to be solid students. They appreciate it. Opportunity had and so many of them stadium states became citizens. Citizens are coaches in our call and our coaches were call indeed college teams today. So you can't fold it Because we all started that way. But the way i think it's a republican student institution particular and our tax payer. I think you'd be could be cutting your view to be that way.

Living in Gratitude With Deborah K. Heisz

"Welcome to episode two hundred eighty eight of live happy now. This has been the most unusual and for many the most difficult year in recent memory. What's gratitude got to do with it. This is paula phelps. And this week as we celebrate thanksgiving as seemed like a great time to talk about how important gratitude is not only at thanksgiving but as a daily practice live happy ceo and co founder. Deborah highs sits down with me to talk about gratitude and other practices to make this unusual thanksgiving more meaningful deborah. Welcome to live happy now once again. You bala it's great lear- especially this time of year. I'm really loud. This is where my times a year. And i'm really excited for checker broadcast. I think we have a lot of talk about. Yeah because anyone that's listened to this awhile knows at both you and i are gratitude junkies so who knows what happens when we get together and talk about it. We're getting more grateful for each other. That's there you go well. This year is been unusual so it puts gratitude in kind of a different light for a lot of people because there are so many people are dealing with loss whether that's loss of loved ones lhasa. Work loss of the freedom that they had to move around and see people so in your life and in what's going on in your world. How are you approaching this thanksgiving and and with your gratitude loss. And i think the one that we're all feeling and not the biggest loss in terms of scale obviously losing a loved one is much more significant loss but the biggest loss in terms of one that i think everyone is feeling a little bit of is a loss of community and as we're going into the holiday season i think that's even more intensified where we might get together with large family gatherings in our family can't travel in or is uncomfortable traveling in or you know for whatever reason were not going to be able to have the typical large family gatherings holiday party corporate outings. Happy hour's wage cycle bureau were be sprayed. I think we get a lot of our sense of community for mos activity. So when we're talking about what we're doing for me. It's what we do work place that to make sure that number one. We are expressing our gratitude. It is the time of thanksgiving after all but also what are we going to replace that so we don't lose out on that sense of community one of the great things you can do and i got a couple of days. This is not my own idea. Is you can take the time to do something. That is a little archaic. And i've gotten a couple of gratitude notes from soups and written letters. Telling me how regretful it is that we won't be able to get this year. How much we're looking forward to getting together next year. And how much more forward and then sharing your on in your life fashion letter to knees. A great idea. Xpress browser this holiday season and the person who receives it one. I i was just talking with someone this morning. About how on a male junkie. And i was like i am too you know and so when we get something. That's handwritten these days. That's incredibly exciting to receive is and you don't have gotten that one that not only was it. Handwritten but person full photos of their social media of jehovah's used it on the computer and talk to me about how much you know and it was family member said how much they were regretting that they were to get together with us this year but they had all these positive memories of last year that he thinking of us and we couldn't wait till next year we put on game that simple but it really took time and energy on their part i or we know from evidence base that even the act of writing that liar heightened their gratitude heightened their happiness low. An it certainly certainly heightened mine. It was a wonderful surprise to get to that in the make so if someone that is a great practice in an earlier this year we had talked to the woman who did the three hundred sixty five days of. Thank you notes and she wrote. Thank you letters to people. So if someone's going to do this there are certain things that you should include are certain practices that you can do to that will trigger more gratitude for you. Is that correct yes. There are more gratitude. So you're speaking about the interview that you did with. Nancy davis cup i at the hankyu project on. Yeah there's a lot of chips about how bright the right thank you and right branching water but one of the things that that is. My favorite is specity. B very specific in order for it to resonate. It's like when you think back to your childhood. You can think back to your childhood in general doesn't resonate on a single something and then you can start team sabre that you remember the way set way. Something smell away. Something felt when you're writing a gratitude letter if you can be specific about what you're grateful for a moment in time or something. The person the reader is the opportunity to savor that memory. As do you you get the opportunity to save that memory and it just heightens the sensation of a tube. Ecorse cruiser overall wellbeing. It's great. I love

Fed Cup to be renamed Billie Jean King Cup

"The Fed Cup has been renamed the Billie Jean King Cup and there's those big plan fair announcements about this week and it's a lovely lovely thing I think it feels so so right there is I think one caveat David that you pointed out on twitter which. Which I very much agree with. How How how much does it really? Well first of all, I agree with you I think I'm ready that it's been renamed. That's The. Caveat was the if we are renaming the Fed, cut the Billie Jean King Cup. It feels even further away that we're GONNA end up having the the great mixed team competition or Fit Slam slammers I'd love it to be. A combination of the Fed Cup or the Billie Jean King Cup in Davis. Cup, that I think the sports so. Hugely needs that feels further away. But maybe maybe that's maybe that's not the case. Maybe the fact that her name is on it and she is may be involved more. We'll bring that closer together because she so much wants that is well, she's. The biggest campaign for. Men and women working together and and being on the same page and being on the same bill for goodness sake. and. Hopefully. That will come in the future I mean. There are those events just don't exist this year. So this is the news news, the renaming, and and that alone really really about just one article Chris Clare in the New York Times right timing done an interview it but a Jianqing, I really enjoy a recommended he coach Bud Collins. Once. Saying that the Fed Cup is a splendid idea with a lame name and he quotes spitting Jean King saying. When a woman does something always think we do it for women when a guy does something, they never say they did it for the guys and so one of the changes I hope I can talk about more and more is that I would like people think that we. Are Doing it for the sport not for Women's Sports and I I thought. Absolutely right. It's It's about time attitudes changed. Yeah I thought that was. A perfect summation of both what Billie? Jean King is about an also how how this could be a a way forward for kind of mixed event and and a combination of men's and women's. Competition together but I mean personally that that that's not been my vision for mixed team event I've I've not thought that it should replace. Davis carpet. Now, village Inking Cup I genuinely think that it could go along alongside them. Both I don't think you need to. Get rid of them and combine it into one I. Think you could have a mixed team event like we had with the Hoffman Cup but make bigger thing out of that, and now we've got that point in the calendar with the ATP Cup and that I think that's the point. Many Times. Cup. Turn. So. Many cups when you did all the cups said back to back, it's Oh it's cup overload kind feels to be redundant to be talking about the of the moment you. Know. What the tent tennis Kinda is anymore but I mean personally I'm just saying I think there's room the space. It would be a great thing for a mix team competition to exist alongside. The Davis Cup in now Billie Jean King Cup that we already have our cup runneth over. A. Carrillo.

Tennis is back; James Blake discusses the challenges

"Hello. and. Welcome to the tennis podcast. It is Monday the third of August twenty, twenty and two. There is tennis actual tennis. Not, exhibition tennis competitive tennis featuring plays, we've heard of playing for ranking points and prize money. We haven't seen any of it yet. It's just been. It's just been qualifying for the weekend but at the Palermo WPA event does get underway the main draw in earnest. Later on today David's Matt I, Give You Tennis It has suddenly occurred to me that we were together when tennis was last to think. Remember when we were watching. Dubai. Was it when Jovic Matt. Watch. Kim Clijsters Return in my lounge. Yeah. That feels like a different lifetime. I. Think. I was. Kind of the last weekend of tennis, which was the Davis Cup qualifying which. Never, find run event, which is taking place to eighteen months after they. After they, qualified for it. And the even then there were. It was kind of in the background there were rumbling signs of covid nineteen. I think the airport I was at in Hungary actually had a case and they shut the airport down and but then two days later everything just shut down it's amazing how quickly it happened. Just. Tennis tennis is back and it came back with a tennis way because I think the first day of qualifying in Palermo ended gone to am in the morning. kind of like we're doing this again. Given there's no crowds to worry about a no corporate lunches to around the there is no excuse for that is the because he can stop playing at eight am. And you can play on his you can play on his many courses is as you want or need to I mean how how it is? So tennis is it like comfortingly reassuringly tennis. is finishing yeah but also stupid. We stopped terriers and your we. When you didn't go to the airport because Indian Wells was canceled. You had a fully packed suitcase. State fully packed for some time. What is status? Is still my bedroom floor it hasn't been unpacked is had items removed from I would describe it now as haw full. Because Yeah I've removed you know the old parachutes. Only items only items with an elasticated waste obviously because lockdown But yes, all items with an elasticated waste have been removed from it. And all items which you might have to wear a Nike shoe with awesome accessories they remain in the case. Keeping most of. My bedroom floor. I said I said I would leave it the like Tracy unmade beds for the duration of Tennessee's absence and I'm a woman of my word five months. Yup. There's no. Mouse. No no mouth. Remembering the mouse, the other day and thinking was that dream It was that feels like a different lifetime. The masses in the suitcase I know why inspect that regularly? Don't you don't joke about that because that is that is those are the dark thoughts 'cause my mind when I'm trying to get to sleep. So. Yes. My suitcase remains on unpacked a spouse. Now I should probably technically go to unpack it this afternoon before three PM, which is when right the main draw of Paloma starts in the UK. Literally part of the Furniture Knob? Yes. Okay. I will. I will consider that we WANNA pitch empty. I mean that will just be a pitch of an MTC case day K. Okay, sure and case with just a mouse corpse at the Boscovich. It's It's the content that everyone's waiting for you. Welcome. Seven terms of tennis. News from this week, there's been no sort of big bombshell news. The deadline of the thirty first of July has been put. On the US Open confirming. Wants him four whether or not? It was going ahead? We haven't had that sort of concrete hundred percent confirmation. From the US Open from everything we're hearing as much as the little concerned around a concern around everything we're hearing suggests that with a heck of a lot of regulations in place in and details of those those rules and regulations have been. Leaking sporadically of the last couple of weeks, it will be going ahead. I mean seems to me that the only outstanding detailed in terms of it being categoric is. The quarantine situation on reentering the you and I think I mean in some ways that is I don't know whether that might even be made easier by the fact that it sounds like Madrid isn't going to happen anymore in this is not quite such a rush to get back to to Europe in order to play the very next event.

Yannick Noah Interview

"We've had a week off and. Has Gone to get his haircuts. Catherine's been hanging out with Magnus. The dog I've been stressing about my football team west from job in as they try to throw promotion away. That may or may not mean something to you, and we will be back with tennis podcasts over the coming weeks and months altogether chat in as we normally do, but today we have a very very special interview with the French Open champion of nineteen eighty-three, the world's number three as his highest ranking, but that really doesn't tell the story of Yannick who is unquestionably the coolest man I have ever met Davis Cup winning captain. Three Times Fed Cup winning captain as well and had a hugely successful music career. Once his tennis stays had come to an end I had the chance to meet him just over twenty years ago when he joined the champions tour. Tour retired players who just traveled to will played matches against one another him and John McEnroe and beyond bog, and all these greats of the game, and just got to know him a little bit at that time. He was always suggest to me. I haven't seen him for about ten years, but I managed to get in contact with him through a couple of other people when we were researching and trying to set up interviews full at tennis, relived series, particularly the French Open, so that we could tell that story, and you'll have heard an excerpt perhaps of this interview when we covered his run to that nineteen, eighty three French Open title, but the entire interview. It's just joy, and it will improve your mood, and if you do enjoy the into you tell your friends family, let your social media, and what's that group's now about it because it will just leave them happier than when they started listening to. It has Yannick Noah. I'd like to go right back to the beginning of your of your career, and even before your career and the reason for your career and. I believe a meeting with Arthur Ashe. Yep Absolutely. Our used to leave the group in Cameroon, Africa and We were I was playing detail club tennis was. Not, very, big in Cameroon in the whole country, back nine court, so to play tennis was very privilege radio privilege so. so we used to go to the club at night, but at that time my parents couldn't afford a racket in one day. When I heard that? Some Americans were coming to the club saw. Americans you know so. So Marty Riessen Charlie Pasarell, Tom, ochre, and Arthur Ashe where doing tour in Africa. And they happen to play one day my club. During the clinic they decide. They played with the kids. And I played with Sir and Liked what he saw. I was slim press. You know he was my heroes. At the end of the clinic gave me a racket is racket. Head competition that worth like. Probably Probably what my parents would making every month. and it was you know it was like a dream for me to meeting. Dr Racket Sonya poster. Saying To Yannick I hope I'll see one that. So that was very funny. But the next thing that happened is after this story went to the French Open and he talked to shut. It was the president of the Federation. I told him that he was a little kid was playing. Or was in French. Speaking. Country and And I I. The scholarship came to friends because of author I played in niece for few years. And? The first time I played in Wimbledon That was nine years after we met was in Wimbledon because as for wild card. That was accepted and we play doubles on center court. So that was a beautiful story, so yes, the so mean Africa. And he was a big part of my story. Because and after that you know. For some reason, he was always like you know. Not Too far helping me when I was younger growing up, and then you know played with him at Wimbledon, the first tournament. Back in the days. It was called Super Seris. I was playing Richmond Virginia where he was born. And that was the first tournament I one. Super Series and As I was you know going through the tournament semifinal quarterfinals? Semifinals Playing Roscoe Tanner and these gentlemen comes into locker room sold demand. It comes. It goes Yanic if you win. Arthur is coming tomorrow SEO really worrisome. Is Dad. So that was that was something I beat Roscoe and An author flew to Richmond I played Yvonne in the finals. Won The won. It and Arthur gave me the cup in his hometown, so that was really special.

Calling Tennis Remotely, with Ravi Ubha

"Welcome to new challenges remaining. I'm Ben Rothenberg as millions of folks around the world enter their third month of adjusting to working remotely I thought this might be a good time to share the experiences of what it's like to work remotely in tennis when tennis is a sport that sts professionally which doesn't really currently and much of the world feed commentary on the tennis matches you watch at home is delivered from a world away from the courts where the matches are taking place and one of the Veterans of this craft is. Ravi who also works on site at tournaments as a freelance reporter. So foot both the close the distant kind of work in Tennessee. So Ravi will describe here what. It's like working in broadcasting rotely at lifestyle of being distant from the courts and the challenges of creating atmosphere. A place that you're nowhere near so hopefully you will find this interesting. Maybe a little bit resident in these times of distance working that we're all living in and general distance. This interview was recorded near the end of this year's Australian. Open as you'll be able to tell but hopefully it has some some meaning residents or something in our lives. Today here is Ravi. I'm thrilled to be joined on this episode by my friend Robbie who is aware of many different hats in the tennis world. He is this week at the Australian Open. As we record this on my I'll and the pressroom and I'll made of mine as we walked back and forth press conferences and whatever else and share reactions to whatever missed overheads and such happened at once. He's one of those voices in unison gasping and signing and also a voice that I hear actually on the TV and watching at home as a frequent world feed commentator tennis Ravi. Thank you for being here. Ben My pleasure. Thank you for people who maybe more or less with you. Just how did you get into tennis? I in your life. How did you for make the jump into doing it as a career? In my life I grew up in Canada so It surprises me that I actually got into tennis. Because as you know. It's a big hockey country at my earliest memories at home when I was a little kid. Four or five watching the US Open in the background was on TV. Washington handle who? I think. He's my idol. When it comes to sportsman was younger so it started from that Played my whole life. Love playing very regularly and then got into it You know my profession and when I moved to London I was in the early two thousands. I is really a writer and thereafter going into the booth and doing You know share a picture of of commentating and TV work also. So how'd so the writing we've got a lot of show or other writing side of its. I'm more curious about how you make that. Jump how you go from being on the page. What was your first time being behind a microphone? I remember it well. It was a two thousand nine. I was asked to do a Davis Cup tie between Russia and Russia and Romania And so I did that s skew. Kinda thing. Yeah it was actually victor. S Q in McCall usually my first match. Oh I remember well and I think it was because they were looking for people who who just new tennis and covered tennis and as somebody who grew up broadcasting also. I was reported in Montreal where I grew up doing TV. I think they knew that. And they just stick. Okay let's Let's bring him in on something I wanted to do. So it really started from my point. According I've done a lot of tennis radio. Color Commentary. Saddam that different from doing TV. But I'm curious what as you got more into? Tv having been a writer having been a reporter. What skills are translated into what once? Don't translate what he to learn on that new in this new role well it For example the attention to detail that you have in imprinted writing. I think that's very helpful when it comes to being in the booth you know when digging up statistics knowing where to look and knowing how to get them to look for the inside stuff rather than just the basic statistics. I saw you antennas abstract on your computer just nine. Yeah for sure a great website. That's that's something that I bring with me. On the print side things that are different You know you know went to jump jump in and out to in went to Q. Out I'd also just broadcasting is a different is a different also voice. Really when you're as to when you're talking somebody like as we're chatting but now it's it's a different voice you put on. You also have to learn. Went to kind of hit your spots when it comes to nailing down for example phrases after a particular matches. Done you WanNa with a big extra It's not exactly the lead on when it's so important for peace pace but it's kind of the big finish in broadcasting so that there are little things like that they're different is that. I think you become more accustomed to as you do more shoe and actually imprint. They really don't emphasize most editors or papers or publications don emphasize ending so much. Onto a real sign off they most articles fade out or some editors sort of cut from the bottom which is frustrating when that happens because the idea try to put endings on Surrey generally. Bs that when did. When did it become a more full-time thing for you? And how did sort of adding work in that particular line? Is it same as other freelance work or is it different? Yeah no it's pretty much since the I would say two thousand thirteen fourteen and I I would say it's become more of doing that Rather than writing than before it was kind of opposite. He's been more of the writing than the broadcast. I always say since two thousand and thirteen and fourteen. I've lucky enough to to do a lot and it's something I love doing. I mean I sat on the air sometimes tournaments that you know. It's such an honor privileged to be doing it because as a tennis fan my whole life you know. Don't consider it a job. I'm very lucky doing something I really really love. And that's all really can ask for you. Mentioned sort of how the attention to detail in the writing can help the TV. Tv helped the writing effort to go the other direction too. Well helps in the sense that I get to watch a lot of tennis I believe and so I think I have a pretty good grasp of the players so it helps to foster ideas because you know for example. I'll give you an example I was watching an accommodated a master on the Brazilian player. A couple of years ago Eliane Pereira And I was digging up homework doing research for her master when she was playing at home. And I just read Interesting stuff about her. How she grew up in really extreme poverty you know. She didn't have a bathroom in her house. She had her bathroom in kind of the back garden. And so I thought well that'd be nice idea to do a longer feature a long story on inside that Saranda presumably written for the time. Remember that So it does help I mean and I think Ben as you know the more you homework you do on any subject on any play you realize that every player has a great story or has a story to tell I think that's the lesson that I learned. I try to bring them in the booth especially at times when a match is getting out of hand when it's not it's not as dramatic in oak at six one five two or six one three love. Matt out of Control. I think you want to sprinkle in those nuggets Talk about other stuff rather than you know the rallies techniques stuff.

Alexander Waske: Tour Coach and Academy Owner

"High Alexander Functions. Tennis podcast thank you great to have you on board are I. Came across of the Alexander Voskan Tennis University as I saw on bags around some tournaments. I saw some coaches walking around two bags. I'd never heard of it before and I was always curious so I went off and did some research and this was last year so I've been falling ever since I've posted some your videos. I have you on our academy our top academy lists so it's great to finally speak to you. Thanks for that like just going to your resume. So you've worked with some cray players to pass speed caregiver meltzer Haas Bryan Curtis and even. Now you're working with some great players on especially let's say on the juniors who working with Yoenis four Tek who won grand slams last year such a great junior strokes are amazing anytime we posted on functional tennis. It's really amazing on. You're also working with a couple of the players on the Belgium Davis Cup team lower still lower Bella Mons on. Yeah few more. You're doing you're busy not me. We are a team here. So it's it's not me. We're working together with a couple of professionals here. So tennis coaches fitness coaches therapists. It's always a team effort here. Tell me cut me. Where's IT based in Germany? We Are Approximately fifteen to twenty minutes from Frankfurt Airport which is in my opinion great location as the International Airport. Gets you anywhere in the world and mostly direct flights? So you're in the center of Europe with Germany and Frankford is the center of or the middle of Germany so it's easy for us too excess anything here in Europe and even long fights I mean everything or usually everything has direct so we save a lot of time. By by this and also frankfort spend my hometown. So I've been I grew up here. I know the area Illinois everything here. So that's why we here. It's great to be in such a central. He'll be juniors playing tennis Europe term and Sir. Itf Tournaments Futures Challenges could hope to be. There's so much going on in Europe and also for the flights as you mentioned but tell me about Your Academy your facility. How many courts you have. What's your setup like? They're always thought of two thousand and ten. I started very very tiny. We had one player and one coach We built this from scratch. We are here working at the Federation. We have four. Indoor rebound ace courts we outdoor rebound escorts and then outdoors. We have also a five day. Courts we have a gym. We have ten rooms to sleep For people that come in for a weekly base now. We have other options for our long-term customers that can save an hour to you house. That is a bit outside of the sites and Ben. We have other apartments as well so everything is basically here on site visit therapy and everything that we need. The restaurant So yeah it's it's not the largest site we can't compare this to the large European academies like more talk no and Ross. We look for very high quality on our courts I think which even that so far I think the small academy the Smaller Academy sorry not too big more look more commercially cutting small and seem to have a better more family atmosphere on something you mentioned. Is You like to build character in the players? You work which can you tell me what you mean by building character with your players. You know if you're getting young people in here. Having a lot of influence has left rights errands media friends other players and so on at the end of the day. I believe that's building a good character and I'm gonNA come back to. That will make them successful people. Nobody can guarantee professional career of them making millions of euros in stuff like this but if they are hot working if they are focused if the discipline if they work hard on reaching their goals if they take a setback if they take a loss get back up on their on their feet and try it again and again and again and again. This kind of character will succeed in life so I think that our number one priority or our number one job is to create personalities that will succeed in life and then they will always be happy that they've been here No matter hulk with a end up in Tennessee great. And how do you do you give me an example? So we set clear rules It's also a lot about talking to the kids making them understand why we do certain things and for ten years. I've been busting my Thoughts to get an atmosphere here where everybody works hard and all the kids that we have now and I'm really happy about this really into getting better so you can always spend your whole day playing computer games. You can spend your whole day going out at night drinking Blah Blah Blah or you generate an atmosphere where everybody works hard and if there's one kid that does work hard the other kids don't want to practice with him because it's it's also for their benefits for their practice so I think that we Getting there that the intensity here is very high that there's a clear plan of how they play and that they really spend time with their game. They're strokes and a half to write a journal of what they've learned throughout the day. They have to visualize nights what they've done and the next steps that are there. We make individual plans for them. We make individual schedules and at the end of the day. You also need to have time for for the if you have fifty players to take care of at the same time. It's a zoo. So our coaches have four to six players that they take care of and I don't think that they can do more so that they have enough time to to talk to the plan to also know what kind of personality they are and what. They're struggling with what they're all right. Now tell me if somebody if I want to apply to come to your Kademi what you look for players that send you emails to say they. WanNa come train with you. What we don't do is we don't sign any contracts through the Internet. We don't do that. We have to meet the player. Find out if it's a fits. We want to see if we really like working with that player and at the other on the other hand the player has to tell. I mean usually. It's the parents that also behind this The player has to say this is where I WANNA be. This is the best place in the world. I don't want to go anywhere else and we can find a way but I I want to very very clear and strong commitment for this and this place is not perfect for everybody. I mean this other academies out there that are doing a fantastic job and Certain personalities will like this here and other personalities will prefer something else through your right if you try and fit everybody in. I think you're structures all over the place. I agree if you WanNa make you happy. You're going to generate a mess. They're going to have strict rules. I mean we are German so if you come one second late for practice your practice is over. It's it just doesn't happen you run for today. Yeah we also worked very early in the morning at seven thirty. We organized in structure. As Germs. Do Things and this is a strength. We are probably the worst dancers and other countries. Show us. How the Party will we? We're good at other things one of my best friends. Fabian is a chairman on definitely knows how to party. I didn't learn. Jeremy travelled a bit so definitely did a stint in the states. I think that's re- picked it up so you start early tomorrow to. What's a typical day so for your? Let's say for your teenagers. There's no real tip of the day because when you run a period as Asian you have weeks where you work really hard. And then you have weeks where you worked less and you regenerate more so we work up to ten sessions a week if the players practice full than they have a Monday and Tuesday where they have two sessions into fitness sessions on Wednesdays. They have Tennis session one session. Thursday Friday again to each Saturdays one tennis and Yoga. That's a tough week here but again we also have other weeks where we watched that the players are doing more mobility or region more stretching more. Physiotherapy it really depends on what's a but the week is planned for them. Take a lot of boxes there. The one thing I know. Is that the coaches care here. They really work hard. Some of them travel twenty to twenty five weeks a year with the players to tournaments. They really care. And that's what I really like Nobody here looks at the clock. All the time and says Lesson is op. I always say don't teach lessons. We coach players and different thing for me. So Time. Watching a bad characteristic. If two people are counting the time I know one player we feature quite a bit in the past two years is Yoenis four tech. He trains with you and he was world number one junior last year. One Grand Slams. How long has he been trained in? What you almost six years now. At that time we didn't really have a junior program and he was recommended to us and we had to look at him and I fell in love right away and I knew that this was probably the best hand eye coordination that I've ever seen in my life. So yeah just jump in there. Did you see the video with the wooden spoon? Yahoo hasn't I mean one of the most popular videos intenders. I would say so. You know what I'm GonNa send you a video just for you and you can post it on your side. Where he hits were the wooden stake now. Oh yes that is amazing. You can see on that. Looks like and then we have another junior now. Who's twelve and he was hitting really well with it and he did it with. Jonas and Jonas told me Alex I think the guy's better with a wooden stick me now because I haven't hit with it for a while so I think that was quite

"Level Between the the IT FM and Cosmos and again we've had a good relationship We don't always agree on everything but I think we come to a decision at the end and so that's kind of how how it works and how involved is joppy. KABC decision maker was he. Move ahead no Gerard is very very very involved. I mean As a my but I think usually Were involved on the strategic elements and were decisions that are complex and being made when we get most involved we have strong teams Have you ever Lonzo from Cosmos and Kelly fairweather from the IT. F- spent spend a lot of time working together and then the teams that each Group has worked together on a constant basis. Just looking ahead to the feet Geno. Jackovich's said this week I think. Thoughts Co founded dollars. Well that he doesn't think that the HP Cup and the Davis Cup can coexist based in his words What is the position on that? Do you think that the best thing for tennis would be emerged of those two competitions. So so yeah the. It F- ATP had a series of meetings over the years there's been recent leadership change at the ATP So we will re-engage age. We had an election. I was reelected so now that our leadership on both sides is defined. I think we sit down and look at what's best for tennis. I don't so what that means. And what the outcome will be The great thing was both Novak and Rafa being here and playing in the Davis Cup and being committed to it We want to do what's right for the calendar and for the players so will involve them and look forward to collaboration with the ATP and we'll see what that might lead to what do anticipate those talks starting right in the new year. Yes I would imagine that we have meetings in in Melbourne. If not if not before a Before we get there just finally it does seem that the women have been quite left out of this whole team competition of the reform. Perform the we'll see the addition of that in Budapest next year but thinking long term. Do you think that a combined mixed team event is. It's the best thing for tennis. And is that your kind of ultimate ambition to involve them because from my point of view that you know you've talked about kind of festival full of tennis the the Grand Slams Film festivals of tennis when everyone is involved together and so is that your intention to to work towards that in the future. Well I I think that I do agree that when we have men and women together it It is a fantastic event and we talked about doing that. you know about about two years ago of having a mixed competition the issue was calendar so I think we still need to work through with both that we wanted to do was make sure for Fed Cup that we immediately got to The equal prize money position as quickly as we could which is for next year which is very important we also also have our Hotline Cup Mixed Competition that will be reintroducing in twenty twenty. One US we're going through a bid process because we know that when eight nations come together one man woman playing singles than plain mixed. It's exciting so that's something that will be bringing back and then as a longer term her goal. I think having both Davis Cup.

"Chosen these these guys and they've they've produced so that kind of went away without incident but today day the couple moments one when you realized what you're up against with Dow his force of Nature Presence Send. The wash is as brilliant as Neal's Cup ski was today and he deserves to play. The was a moment where you just saw the Dow walkout and you just thought just imagine if if the Murray brothers walked out right now as well Just in terms of matching up that that personality out there but he was there looking terribly miserable courtside and ex and just going through hell. Yeah I mean I felt the same fulfil just for she she or a purposes to try to try and fight the force of nature and on the opposite side of the court. I thought the only chance of combating that would be with with the Murray brothers and ended up feeling guilty for for having felt that as I watched you know Neil scopes give rise to the occasion Asian and be really as much as he doesn't have kind of Mario Batali score and presence he's an incredibly cool cucumber and I was really struck by that really. Didn't doubt his nerve at any stage because the noise people make when he was about out to try and serve in that second set time writing for instance. I don't know how they concentrate when when the crowd is kind of whistling and if if they missed the first serve and then they kick off again and as you say he just kept Tattoo. Art was mightily impressed. Some place just just come good. Donate the Davis Cup happen. That's two wins and pushing the Dow. Close that's a pretty good FM. Yeah meanwhile landy. Murray sank into a state of sits esque despair on the sidelines there is. There's a prolonged camera. Shots of him as ASKEBZC in his his brother were walking. Of course the the one of the cameras on the side of the Panthers Marine it was. His face is frozen in a state of deep despair. It was it was horrifying. I mean for for for tennis player who is achieved. Zandi Mary to be sat inches away from that core. Not being able to do anything about it that was unfolding thing must have must have been agonizing and normally tennis players watching. Tennis is one of my absolute favorite things Felix. Would you Elliott this week. For example has been just great to watch in the box face pumping Andy Murray. What Shing tennis is one of my least favorite things is it? It just made me made me sad. He was he was squirming and biting his nails and sinking into his chair and hiding behind his hands so he he was going to have watching his brother. That's the lowest he didn't. He didn't sit in the front row didn't he. He wouldn't hide himself away. He knew he would be projecting his angst which he very much was he wouldn't go away stuck it out out but we don't know what's wrong with him and I kind of want to know whether it's any more serious than what we knew about it. It is not just biscuits no many having a day off after that match was was understandable Having another to not playing again in the entire tournament well. There's something wrong so I want to know what it is but we don't know anyway. We'll find out. I'm showing showing Yukos now. Spain they're gonNA play Canada in the final tomorrow. Canada beating Russia. Quite fantastic result doc for Canada having come from a rubber behind because vast pospisil finally beaten by Andrei Rubel if Dennis Chevelle of is producing isn't he. Isn't he doing in well. Ready to step up his he can still be erotic and he was against the other day but he showing some metal here I think. Think and great. Great performance. Canada's first-ever Davis Cup final for them. Isn't it yeah. That's right and he. Yeah Dennis chiappa valve has has been really great not not always the most brilliant tennis that he's capable of. I don't think but in a way. Okay that's that's why he's been so impressive because he's been managing to win without just kind of blowing people off the court. Necessarily he's had a lotta tight sets difficult situations. And Yeah he's he's been really impressive and this was a big big tie against Russia. He's obviously got some Russian heritage. Take and you know so. And he's got a Russian coach Mikhail Youzhny so so there was that connection for him out on the court today. Yeah he was. He was really great and to see him. Combine with specific this week. Because the the partnership everyone was talking about was was os. Your Semen Zemun Chapa Valve. That's the that's the more natural partnership in the in. The Canadian squad seem not quite being fits enough because of his ankle. Well I actually asked shop about oven pospisil impression of what was your. What was your relationship like before this tournament and and had have you played much before and this is the first time they've played doubles together? pospisil and CHAPA VALVE AND CHAPARRAL offset. He's always looked up to pospisil and wanted to play with him ever ever since one Wimbledon and possible said. Yeah we've we've been through something special together here them. We're going to be stronger because of that and it's good for our team going forward that this that this is a partnership that we've developed a relationship that we've kind of nurtured on court and yet is there's something there's something really powerful about them for them to be able to beat action of a rube left who have already got that pre established friendship before the tie I thought was just incredibly impressive from them. I think we all picked action of a move live yesterday. I thought Russia would make it possible Saul afterwards afterwards asked about the comparison between the Davis Cup ties. He's played in the atmosphere is played in before and this one is his captain. Frank Don Civic was was interested to listen to as well listen to these. I feel like the the emotions are comparable to be honest. I like well this is the first semifinal I mean is even even even more emotional. I feel like there's been such a big build up to to this day. Just we played so many matches to get to to the semi semi finals. So it's it's yeah. It's the best of three format now but I wouldn't say it's less taxing on the body especially if you have to play singles doubles every day. I mean I feel like it's pretty similar at least my feeling. I still feel like it's like we're playing Davis Cup. There's so much on the line you know we have we have great Fans flew in and so it just felt very similar to to playing Any other Davis Cup tie accept just for some reason feels like there's more on the line because all the players are here all the teams are here so in some ways that that makes it kind of feel even bigger that if that makes sense I don't know but Yeah feels feels feels amazing and I would I would still. They say that they're from a player's perspective. From our perspective it seems very similar. It's been an amazing ride. So far as a captain I. It's it quite new to me. I've been doing this for two years now. I believe two two and a half years. So it's quite you and To be in this position this early in my right my captain career is amazing. I mean these guys have a great team to back it off. These guys are world cost players and and they're playing they I I mean this week. They played lights out. And I just think that You know I'm I'm really really happy with with everything that's going on. I wasn't expecting it to be honest. I know we have a great team. I know we're great players. There is but to be in. The finals of Davis Cup is a really big deal. And and to be here it's it's sort of surreal but You know it's kind of gathering the motions right now and and we have a shot at the title. So I was telling these guys on the chair when I was when I was sitting on match point and my you know my heart was beating so fast that it was actually starting to black out a little bit before the match plan I was trying to control. Oh my breathing and just on my cell debris the slowly and stay calm and we're you know we're close to this so damn civic basically passing out while he's he's courtside not very helpful but you know what a what an experience for for those guys and to be in the final now and it's a Dude I love the way. Canada embraces tennis the way they've embraced the Andress Q.. Story in these the young Canadian men as well. It's it's a fantastic story and they've come at numbers to support them as well do they have do you think. Do you have a better chance of beating in Spain in the final in Britain did or Joe do you think it's going to be straightforward. You think you think we'll get doubles tomorrow. So that's a good question shop shop Ivanov does not have a good record against top top players. I don't give him. I don't give him much chance against Nidal So who do we think will play. Spain's number T to we have to do. We seem Lopez. They were in the Spanish portion of the press conference tonight. There were saying that quite unbelievably really really but there is a chance about east to Google will come back and play he was there today. COOTS and camera radium. Moving having a moment between the Dole and heaven embrace in in the tunnel before they would g to count No word spoken but Non Needed see very emotional for the Spanish team. Participate if you if you didn't tear show of a couple of nights ago lost his father a few days ago and left the team as a result of that but has come back today so yeah incredibly moving to see the pictures of him. I mean that would be. That would be something if he played so so. Yeah I think so. It's about whether Pospisil I think can beat Spain's lines not pospisil isn't really fully fit. As a matter. and He is put himself through the ringer. Absolutely he he's got a bit of a shoulder a problem. He was getting heavy massage on his shoulder. During that doubles it didn't didn't seem to affect him too much but it's clearly really bothering him. Saying idea see might be just about fit but but he's not played for weeks. I mean yeah. Expect him to come in and play. I think would be incredibly difficult. I think they'll stick with pospisil. Don't you talk to shoulder or not just inject into that shoulder and off you go check your whole career for that moment. Franken income frank. Dang Chevik is an interesting captain because I think he must be one of the most understated captains you know he's not he didn't have Brilliant singles career really. You know like like Lleyton. Hewitt's or Ramadi facial captain's Nicolas Massu an equally. He's not he's not like a Lien Smith or a top chef. You've got lots and lots of experience in the Davis Cup and yet I think because he's a similar kind of age to a lot of the players and he's been on the tour with them. I think the players do connect with him quite well. I think there's a related but let's see there and it doesn't doesn't feel like there's a hierarchy in the in the Canadian team. It almost feels like chiappa valve pospisil. You know everyone's directing the questions to him whereas for example in sorry to them whereas in Britain's press conference Leon Smith gets a lot of the questions he feels like the team spokesperson. But it's less so with with Danka Vich and what we were saying yesterday about the kind of end of golden generation for Serbia. Well this famous feels like the star to the golden generation for Canadian. Tennis already started with with Andrea School and shop of Alvin are seen rising but just just for them to be in a Davis Cup final without really using well. I haven't used. I think what they could be doing in future years. It does feel like start over kind of Canadian power in tennis. Um Does Roddy. Then I think we saw going to get a doubles match tomorrow. Still it would feel so wrong if we don't get a doubles in the final. Yeah this week given how this week is played out just no body will start Nidal. Spain on spinal went. Yeah I I'm not sure we will get a doubles. I think I think they might get it done in the singles I think there they have had the tougher side of the draw in terms of rest. Nadal actually shut down the the press conference in quite respectful away but he basically said. I know you're doing jobs. I need to do mine and I need to go to bed. Kinda thing we'll need to rest and everyone kind of accepted. Did that issues enough dull on that now catherine which you just informed formed everyone that we will need to Catherine. Richards is left Sankara and we are going to leave the tennis. podcast on Nice for tonight anything else before we do go matt..

"I mean how how long this carries on and how much it can be improved in. There are pluses and minuses we. We know that I've enjoyed the week so fob but tonight was was jarring now. Yes Matt was denied aged going into the French press cards however he went bowling into Novak Djokovic is press conference today we heard from him yesterday Novak Talking About Harry thought that Davis Cup an ATP Cup should merge Matt has been asking him a bit of a follower. Never listen to this Novak. I just just wanted to follow up on something you said yesterday that you think maybe the ATP cop in Davis Cup should merge come together Yep A news suggested is it a week in September perhaps the US Open now oversee. The kind of elephant in the room is that the Labor Cup currently occupies that place in the calendar. Just so it's I'm just wondering What are your thoughts about the long term future of that competition in its place in the calendar in this discussion about team competitions? And do you think other team. Competition should take priority over it. Well Labor Cup is Very important for tennis. I think it has proven in the last three years that By attracting the best tennis players in the world and also the legends of our sport and presenting a unique concept to tennis which is A very similar also copy paste Ryder Cup in Golf. is something that has Generated a lot of interest in a lot of if Benefits for for tennis. That is the reason why it's in the ATP calendar even does does not have points but it is regarded as an important competition for your future of tennis and I definitely think Labor Cup should you know be supported by the tennis community But at the same time you know when we talk about team competitions Davis Cup has always. He's been the one that stands out the most historic one and Unfortunately in the last three years that also I've been let's say say part of this kind of negotiations and conversations that were happening between the F. and ATP and Cosmos and Different sides that were involved and There was just no unfortunately solution or no deal for the merger of the two events but from the very very beginning the desire from both sides was always there and I and it's still there so there's chocolate it's talking about Labor Cup which is is quite interesting. Isn't it that was. That was a cool follow actually given that he didn't play it earlier this year and given the is obviously part of this this sort of political team soup that we've got going on right now it wasn't just being diplomatic. Do we think or do you feel like that is a position that he accepts is not going to change and live a copy is here to stay and actually that also I mean he's aww positive is though is frankly there's room for that end another possibly a little bit of both he was. He was quite diplomatic Kind of slightly slightly talk to round it And Yeah I do think he does think that now it's an you know in in conjunction with the ATP is going to make it kind of even even more difficult to prioritize something over that event that event. I don't think he's he's going anywhere so I think he just recognizes that it is another part of this kind of ongoing team competition problem bloom and he doesn't. He doesn't have the solution but I do think he speaks well on the topic as a whole and I do agree with his position. Basically I I I think the Labor should be kept. I must say and I think that the HP Cup and Davis Cup should be he combined and it should be called Davis Cup and it should be the best event it can possibly be and if we can reach a stage where those two things are possible. Then I I would be happy with that. I would as well I think that both by you and by joke which is very well put. I think where it reached a bit of an impasse is fat as identified by Jovic. There is a clearly desirable. There is a clearly number one desirable place for a team. Competition in in the men's calendars currently exists and Labor Cup pies. That place I. I'm perfectly happy for a he. Combined Davis Cup. ATP Cup which. I would want to be called Davis Cope Delay Cup to exist. I agree I think there's a place swoopes absolutely but I won't. I would want Davis Cup to be given priority in terms of scheduling And that's where I see the issue because that it is clearly the prime the prime position in the calendar clearly capturing can I can I ask do you feel that the should be the strongest longest possible Davis Cup in the strongest possible Fed Cup. Or do you feel that they should be combined in a heartbeat. I just see that is a I'm I'm I'm trying to be pragmatic rather than idealist Like to think that that's a real possibility. Bit Given where we all currently gently Just reconciling issues with the men's calendar is Is Difficult Enough But oh absolutely in a hot being no brainer combined find okay. I did have a somebody come back to me on twitter today and just make a very compelling case for the Fed Cup staying saying and being recognized in its own rights which. I didn't agree with person because I think Jen. You think that the strongest events listen tennis. All the grand slams are combined they are. They're everything and so if we had a team version of that then all the better but that's Yeah I mean I take your point I just listened to that chat the CEO from Ninety F- sad did wonder whether actually you know maybe in a few years if really is the strive drive and they make that a priority. What why not just finally somebody keeps about away White Matt's just quickly before we move on from Jackovitch just something you said to us earlier today? Matt Solvency fairly new to this world and US. You know you were setting you can change. Yeah but he went running out of the the kind of magic doing a video of himself today. So we're flying and you went into Novak's explain. That was a great question you asked him and use. You said to us after that he kind of makes it quite easy to ask a question to. Can you just explain what you mean. Well because he he always gives questions his full attention. I think if if it's a reasonable reasonable question that he doesn't feel has some kind of handle or agenda if it's just a straight question he will you in the eye and he will answer it and it's it's I think is quite I mean. I feel quite comfortable asking him questions. In comparison to some other players for example who might right kind of chop you down. I don't I've not had the experience where he's going to do that and I think he has done that but not with me and yeah yeah I just I feel like he. He's thoughtful and I appreciate that. So that's Serbia through their plan. Russia Britney through as well and there was no today. What was going on there eating being biscuits well? Yeah he's not he's he is not physically ready for this. The intensity of this competition Shen and actually something that he said in that interview that we ran on the coast about ten days ago now with with he was speaking the launch of his Kostov with several journalists. You were there David. He said such confidence. Matt I did. I did go with sharks given any free stuff. We're not saying that Ryan to get free stuff so but he said that his physio thought that kind of going forward the slams are gonna be in the many ways despite the five sets easier events for him given the day off off and I think given the is not in his peak physical condition expecting him to play back to back days after three hour match was probably just not realistic and given the Britain have options in the singles. Columbine was kind of ready to go looking back at it. It's actually a a bit of a no brainer. The and marry didn't play today. I mean he was not in a good physical way yesterday. Who plays tomorrow? Now if Andy Murray is feeling refreshed D drop the British number one. Yes yeah I think I think it is only whole David. Says Drop Donovan's headlined Murray. I'm ready I'm ready to express online. Sorry yes I I've seen both as with with Dan Evans. And it's it's unfortunate for him because he played really well in both of them for set and a half and then he and I don't even think he went off that much in either of them he just he play two players that are bigger and stronger and hit the ball a heck of a lot harder other than he does and they just got on a roll I think he led a certain five three against Robin Hauser and he led a set and four three against Alexander they signed up today and Publix. third-set I don't I don't recall. Seeing tennis. Live from anyone he was he was hitting one hundred and thirty Eh and a second serves regularly and he was just trying to hit winners on every ball going in. He's really good fun he he is. I mean obviously He and Kukushkin lost doubles quite badly to Jamie. Murray Niels Kope up ski but Alexander Puplic in doubles was just an obsolete low fast. He was going. He was getting one hundred Asian. Thirty five MPH ACES on second serves and Kush givers turning round gang. May I'm here to you making making decisions for both of us so make better ones. I mean ludicrous. Awesome it also winning strategy but it was really entertaining and I think on on Dan Evans. He's if he were to play tomorrow uh-huh later today. I should say He would play Yanlin strove who while not quite as EXP- perhaps quite as explosive explosive and Sort of mercurial as public is very much of the same ilk in that he can completely take Max away from you with his power and his big serve and I think therefore matchup wise. It might be an idea to move it about tomorrow. Put put Mary back in after his his day off. Although Leeann Smith was Bhai no means particularly confident about that and think But if he might do that then you can shift Edmund. Up The number one position Edmund was awesome today. He was immense. He was was like purposeful and exotic aggressive. All the things you want to be. He was it was a little bit scary when he was fist. Pumping and chest bumping again. You know that we don't see often and when we do it takes you back a little bit. But he was great from from right from the start. I thought OKAY EDMONDS EDMONDS UP FOR LISTS. He's probably well he's bringing bringing in an energy to the core which he just hasn't done not not just on tour but he hasn't really done. It Davis Capo that often. Either it was a it was a totally different Edmund and also I thought Leon John Smith was a lot more vocal on the bench within. He was really sort of standing up after every point getting not getting in his face but really a encouraging him and Smith can sometimes be a captain that but also he can be quiet passive. Sometimes it just depends on the situation. He oversee read. The car was just this ball of energy today and was feeding them. If we had confirmation from Colorado and that the Franco in K.. Divine partnership is go. 'cause it was on a trial basis in Paris. Wasn't it yeah. They're kind of still going to be traveling a little bit sir. I heard I heard it was on now. Yeah it's officially on is no longer trial. Yeah but call today that still kind on of in the early period obviously because they don't really know each other yet so he's going to spend some time off season just trying to get to know a bit more with a with a view to felice fully starting starting next season Russia. Yeah how do you. How do coaches and players get to know one? It's interesting questions speed dating. We've had collard man's fist pumping and chest bumping. We've had matt running. I've had a NAP my first nathen six years. Yeah that was the biggest indictment of the Davis Cup scheduling call. The weird broke. David David Law did. I didn't afford their feel really weird anyway enough of that whenever another one for six years. What else has happened today? I what what happened six years ago and you had an APP somebody said. Let's start podcast and Tighten up all my time since right. So yeah that. That's what's happened on court today More quarterfinals tomorrow. Some very sad odd news today in that Rebecca about history. Good hat to return home. His father's passed away which is really sad for him and And we we wish him well. We had better news in as much as our competition. Andrew Millard was in Madrid today and had a lovely time. But but you didn't get saying that he escaped your clutches busy starring in movies. Yeah he was. He was an video on the On the Davis Cup finals website So well done under the lovely day and You go home with some very happy memories away from the Davis Cup finals. We've had some coaching changes folks. Because Angelique Kerber has announced her new coach. All of my predictions have not happened in terms into the coaching. Carousel Dittmar kindle. Men who used to be with a lease is going to be the new coach. He wasn't with the lease mountains anymore. Yes that's not being over here Isla Tomjanovich last year and and how about this one. Diana Yastrzembsky is the player that is hired Sasha engine which is John has shifted you pronunciation. Enunciate Earth because I've been told have been getting it wrong for the last five. Not that someone in the know budgen batting everything buying think that I thought he was basically working with Kim Clijsters. No that was that was somebody who is just inventing venting stuff in order to try to get clicks. Catherine I do think okay. Yes no it was definitely really. I thought it was GONNA be clicks. Somebody who invents things to get clicks a lot. I thought it was going to be gobbled mcgrew who I should budgen ended up with by account do this now and it turns out not as an company. Magritte's this is GonNa be with speculates that she'll get back to cheat Maltese. But it would be lovely a for a number of reasons but I knew that Sir.

To make sure that they do beat Holland tomorrow you surprisingly Holland lost the doubles. Even though they've kind of got a really strong sat doubles players and Argentina beats chilly in in the first match on the main stadium. Way Wasn't wasn't full but aplenty of noise. because there's such passionate sets of fans and there's a lot of a lot of them living in Madrid. I think it's interesting how that works. Isn't it because yesterday there was a there was a tie which had a lot of people in but I didn't hear an awful lot of noise and and then this one I watched quite a bit of one of the match. She's in Chile against Argentina. And I thought crikey that sounds well. That sounds like Davis Cup and then it depend depend around and actually was. The small stadium would be more beneficial for for a match light that particular one. Yeah well Diego Schwartzman said it was one of the best matches he's ever played in his career which I can neither confirm nor deny having more tension was elsewhere when he was playing. But I but Nicholas Jerry lost virtually and I looked up his record. He has not won a match. Nicholas Jerry since July when he when he won the title in Bullsh- that is that how you say it that's right. He won the tie it. So he's not Wanna Mac. And then there's another one that says North American English referring to or performing as an important moment that will decide the result ultimate game or competition. That's the one I've also consulted the ebon dictionary. Obviously and it says to perform into pressure. Yes and we like this David. Well this one's got this one's got four thousand five hundred thumbs up in two thousand and nine thousand nine thumbs down so that's a win. It even one blow volt. "Is one of our kickstarter backers four to one thousand nine hundred ninety one of the reasons why we're able to produce this many shows and we can't thank all of you enough who've supported us over the last year Nearly one hundred thirty shows we've produced now. I think it will be that many. By the time we finished the year and the the goal is to produce just as many next year if we can do As many exciting things as we possibly can with this show and so our kickstarter will begin on December. The second in just a couple of weeks time now you can hear an announcement in the background there in Madrid. Because that's where Matt Roberts says in the middle of the night matt it has been a long goldway few. How's it going? Yes that was just to announce that Australia are coming into press which is not even the last thing that where we happening tonight. Because there's still a doubles match to go as I come to his temple midnight. That will be on core in ten minutes and it's all a bit bonkers but it's very Spain Very Madrid and if there's one city way can get away with it probably is this one but yes. I'm having to slightly keep my voice down because yes I'm in the media center. Want to disturb anyone but I am absolutely buzzing having just Just been on court for Dowell you were on court with Di was yes sir. It looks remarkably like current addtional. Just just to be clear. What time did you get there? Today I got on site about ten this morning Pakistan so just just the full team and these doesn't wasn't finished yet. The doubles is about to start. It's one all between Spain and Russia and then once that's all done mathematical leave and and it's about an hour and to his hotel maybe about four. Am Start Tomorrow with the Gbi on eleven. Yes now a tolkien. Brilliant ahead write this match. Let's start with it. The one you Washington right now. We've decided we we have to record now because we're it's on satellite. It's it's been proper Davis Cup tonight has not in terms of what we know. Is Davis this COP. It's been a home team against an away team and I think that this is you know sue the one side of things people may say. Well they go than it does it. It does preserve this kind of Davis Cup that people cherish so much others will say well. Yeah this is what makes us so sad sad that we're losing the home away throughout the year. You know it depends how you coming at it doesn't it. I mean I loved it tonight. It was absolutely fantastic festival we had Andrei Rupe live Beating Roberta Battista seven six in the third including seven zero tiebreak which was was mind blowing. And then we've had rough dahl equal things up against Kevin Hatching of in a really close one particularly the second set that Rab- live Battista match kind of had everything. It was such a good match and it was such an easy one for the fans to get into because there were so many swings of momentum. There were lots of breaks. Lots of breakpoints eight points. Lots of big moments and it just was absolutely perfect for the atmosphere which was which was special at the star. And then it just reached the kind of Chris Crescendo towards third set. And then there was this really strange atmosphere when about Easter. You've lost couldn't gays rack. You're on a ball in the in the tie-break as you said Rube left winning at seven seven love just cracking winners. And then it was kind of like Is this going to be a problem for Spain. We Com Russia win Spain fighting for second in that group. You know they might not go through. And then everyone kind of remember. Hang on a minute. We've got We've got I found out all things. Things might be okay and always think in Spain whenever around Madrid play doesn't expectancy since they're going to win round Madrid fans Goto the stadium expecting round. Were to win and I really got that sense with adult tonight. It was like a K- it's fine. We've gotten the doll. He will win. And that is an incredible amount of pressure on the Dow and yet he just performed so oh well like it was any other man. She was so relentless I ball allows and I'd like to see more Dow Hatch Knob. I think that's a really good matchup. Ah It works really well. They've had good Max in the past and this was another one and yet and the dog just does what an adult twenty fifth win in a row in the Davis Cup. He's only ever lost once to Novak. But Not Novak Djokovic Year Novak the first ever Davis Cup tie and then he won twenty five in a row since then I mean the man man is extraordinary ordinary and tonight he. I saw the first Sam and saw the whole match for the first. He was like a dog walk us just being given meet I. I'm in a week. He was just ravenous he was and it was. It was everything that the O.. Two wasn't sir. In the the first couple of rounds group matches he had there but I just felt when he went out. Although it was sort of a shame on one level for that event I thought correct. This is going to do in the world. Good he's had three matches. He's got progressively better. And now here he is looking fresh and ready to go. And you saw the way burst out of the blocks yet. This would. This was not possible without what he did to he. He played himself out of an injury and into form their his tennis is just right where he wants it to be. I mean you know. Let's not forget. He ended up beating the eventual champion at the two. You know he was. He was playing that well by the end of it and I just think he's developed his game so much. I just think you know. His backhand now is almost as good as his forehand at times and yet his foot work works so good that he's able to get himself as many forehands as possible Varied is served right right in the end of the tiebreak keeping serving out wide the whole match and then he hit one up not in court action of completely by surprise. Just an amazing sense of the moment and tactical decision. Asian in under that pressure Yeah he was he was he was spellbinding tonight and there was a really crackling atmosphere and watching the watching any member but I think the big three in front of their home crowd is going to be a very special and certainly that was the case in the Dow is such such appreciation for him in the second set hatch really started to get into it with him didn't he. He took him on. He went toe to toe. And I did feel that. Nadal was stunning to look okay a little tight at the end because as you say enormous pressure and let's not forget. They were one zero down Spain from that first rubber and he it's on him he's got to produce and you know just imagine if that has gone into a third set what would you implying apply and then well haven't even got the Dublin. It's seventeen minutes past midnight in Madrid. The doubles plans haven't walked onto the court yet. Yes we would not be talking now David. No we wouldn't so anyway. He got the job done. Didn't a Dow just just to remind on that rib love against Patrick Good match match. Rubella was cramping in that match they played a forty seven stroke rally that the Rab- leverage. Just hammering the ball around and Battista artistric wouldn't let it go and ended up winning the rally. I just think that is a fantastic win. I have never watched about Easter Goo match. In which the now the person did not end up broken I remember the overseas Andy Marijuana at the start of the year Then he backed up by kind of in just outlasting John Millman and now this one I don't quite know how ripple have managed to play through. That crampy looked pretty bad especially on his serve. After he was serving it was really having to shake out his leg and he looked at a lot of pain and yet obviously just throw salt rallies. I'm just going to hit winners in the tie-break break and maybe maybe that tactic worked against about Easter. Go to Tom. Wear him down. Because we're blessed channel. Tim single-minded tactic that he I needed to to adult. Yeah more announcements in the media center drama tennis podcast. You got a little bit of live as well So what else have we had today. We are still waiting for the doubles we. We don't even know if it's nodal dewey in the doubles the last I saw what was it wasn't going to be but to be honest I don't I don't know they you can you can. You're singles players are locked in When you an hour before the Thai stance oh you are allowed to change your doubles line-up so I don't have to be back for another match tomorrow at six? PM So it's it's pretty full on Canada a through. Do they lead the United States. Two Zero just a word on Vasic Pospisil who is paying amazing so Husni I mean he. He got a great win yesterday. Ebbing Fabio Fanini yesterday. And then. He's he's got him Bayton Riot Palca today that that guy was seven foot tall and and seventy missiles as an pospisil is just so athletics so good and Canada radiant. Today's the shape of has matched as well. Yeah Pospisil. His career has been really marred by injury. Hasn't it the when you see him play like he did what he has done this this week. So far you just think Awatif kind of Because he's got a good Cervi steady from the from the baseline and he likes coming forward. I really liked watching in place really really nice style and yet finish up. Valve is in a rich. Vein of form Overstay knocking while beating Bertini yesterday. A now taking Taylor Fritz and other another really good win someone with a kind of similar. Samora ranking Yet looking looking really good Canada. Although say that tie I ended in very wage circumstances in that Canada announced that the doubles would be chef of elegance and O'Reilly rally AC- teaming up kind of seems. I go this Davis Cup finals. And then about fifty minutes later. It was announced that they'd actually forfeited the doubles and USA would be winning six love six love now. The reason being the reason it's been given is because is that the players were deemed to be injured. Three of the four players now must really understand that given the go-to squads and you are allowed to change the lineup Frank anxious basically admitted in his press conference the Canadian captain that they did it to preserve more than anything. He says. They're not quite able to play what they up to their highest level..

But as you said, everyone was so nostalgic at this point, they they've really going to be competing against like history. You know, so many years is really good point. And it's you know, it's hard. I mean, I think. Nowadays were split. We really love the new stuff and the new technology or like, everything is about nostalgia. And the old school stuff. And you see all these things coming back. You know, they're just getting slightly revamped. But every everyone likes the old school. So. Suspect. You're not just referring to sports. No, no. I mean, like every Hollywood reboot is that Hollywood franchise. Everything's coming. I mean, you can get a polaroid camera now like basically the same old school Polaroid's everything from the nineties is back in fashion, so makes its return. Yeah. "Needs edibles. No, at least at least she doesn't have a family history of diabetes. Oh, I just went there. But no. But but back to your point she she is very enterprising. And I think when she is through with tennis whenever that is interesting to see what she does. She's not going to be, you know, giving tennis lessons at the club. What else should we what else we wrap with strange time of the year for for tens? Did you watch any Davis Cup action over the weekend? I was you know, holiday weekend. You know? I had a. Congratulations. Thank you. I suppose this was predictable. But everyone self included lobbied rallied for change in the status Cup is unwieldy. And no one follows it and four weeks out of the year a radically space playing best to five tennis is completely out of step with the times. And as directed. The head of the ITF blows us thing up. We're gonna put a new proposal on the table. It's going to be condensed. It's best of three sets. We're going to compress this into one week. It's going to be in one central okay shit. So everyone can buy tickets ahead of time in the sponsors can come knowing where it is. And it sort of addressed the various and sundry concerns. People had with Davis Cup. And now, we're all become very nostalgic. And I don't know if you saw some of the tweets or as Mary referenced heard some of the so quote from the French team with my a team that lost saying, you know, I've played in the last Davis Cup because what's coming next is. And can no longer be considered Davis Cup. And we had a number former players saying, it's what a pity. No one can experie-. This. We've suddenly become very style. Gic to me. It's really about. Whether this financing is the financing, they say it is because you hear two very different stories. And if this is the the billions and billions of dollars that were bandied about that's great. And I think you can do a lot not just in terms of inducing the players with with big checks, but also with marketing and promotion, I've also heard figures that say that as wildly exaggerated, right? And it's more like fifty million dollars, which would not necessarily. So you think changes you think that if the money's not there the player interest in participations not gonna be there? Yeah. But I also think what else do you do with that money? Right. You promote it, and you use it for corporate sponsors and use it for events and hospitality. And you make it into a thing. If that money, isn't there? It's it's going to be an interesting could have been interesting first few years. And I also think we still. Haven't figured out this date on the calendar, and the IT f from the very start is sort of let it be known. I don't know if they publicly said this. But certainly there been whispered that this dove member date is a placeholder and they're really trying to get September date. Ironically, enough the September date targeted as the one that coincides and corresponds with Roger Federer's labor Cup. I'm not sure, you know, you what's what's the word from the wire to line. Do you pick a fight with a king, and you best not lose? I'm not sure the smartest strategy is to go after there's not any better open weekends in that September. No. And remember, it's it's after the USO very when when that was put on the calendar begin with we all were kind of like, man, I don't know if that's gonna work, but I guess now that has sort of proven, right? This is perfect in that time. Right. Because you're you're coming after the US open and it's competition, but they're not huge points on the table there. Also, it's a week that most players otherwise wouldn't play. It's not a terrifically strong week in terms of the other ATP events it fits really nicely. I think it's going to be quitter for I think it's gonna be interesting because labor Cup was, you know, the had the benefit of just being a.

"But then we we had a request to talk to marry more pe- people want to turn this into career day. I think there's a lot of curiosity. But how you do your. Job. How you just did the dog show? But let's let's do a little tennis. I so I scribbled case down which I usually don't take the time to pair. But you you make me nervous. All right. Let's do game show style attack defender, modify the following assertions. Okay. New Davis Cup is a win for tennis. I I sure as hell hope so I don't feel that way. As you know, I've been critical of the Davis Cup ever since attacking all these. I'm attacking. Yeah. I and again, if you listen to unique no is impassioned speech. When I mean that thing and unique can make it all sound. I'm that guy. He has my number anyway. That right on front read your shopping list, and I will. I'm with you know, I, you know, I think there I think it's an absolutely terrible date November. And I know date Haggerty would love to switch that around. I think you can't have that many team cups. I think it's so fish, and and help the feeding to just Crandon already ridiculous calendar in with some other thing at the end of the year, and absolute I I hate the idea that three billion dollars is being thrown around allegedly theoretically and not one dime of it has been earmarked for the women for the Fed Cup. So no, I've got a lot of issues with it. And if I get proven wrong, I'll be the first ones who I promise you. I'll tell you. But I I right now, I'm I miss. I I know it needed changing needed adjusting. But I think they really bent the needle in such an aggressive way that they'll be problems. This was people like fascist there in the French guys say that they're not even gonna they're not playing it. And they're guessing that a lot of the other guys aren't planning it. And it seems that the top guys like Federer aren't committing to. You know that that you gotta have big guys there. No, it it. It reminds me a bit about Brexit, and it's very easy to it's very easy to cast a vote. I mean, I think something did need to change trains fairly radically. But it's very easy to cast a vote and very easy to write mention a dollar figure, and then when the rubber meets the road, and you've actually got to exit the European Union, and you're realizing that the economic model you've voted on might not be the one that's gonna be exactly in reality. It's a little different. I didn't like that. There is a lack of transparency through throughout. And that really bothered me. The fact that a lot of money got thrown at a lot of different countries. So that they'd get said they'd come to. Yes. That bothered me as I said, I if it works. Well, I'll be the first to say I was wrong. I hope it works. Well, I I do think Dave Dave Hegarty is you you spoke to him. I remember, right. I did. And you know, he. You've spoken with him as well. The guy's very optimistic off in the sick night. But I will say on the gender point. He is he he does be fairly transparently. But how he does hope that this carries over to a women's model to. But I don't think that this model is good for the men or the with. So, you know, again, you're gonna get a bunch of of you know, what eighteen nations I hate your wildcard thing, by the way that grows as it's gross. And you know, I and by the way, I'm not saying that you need huge names to make Davis Cup or Fed Cup. A great event. I mean, my favorite my favorite matches in Davis Cup. So often come in the double skies that you know, in might not really know that well, or or when w for rare comes up with a huge win against Kohlschreiber in the Spain against Germany mentioned, robbing dollars going absolutely nuts along with the rest of his team tyring on the veteran.

Some so many of the most amazing the, you know, exhilarate matches that come and said Cup and data's come. Because somebody not the store steps up. Right. I mean, that's right. I mean, I do think..

"And that's kind of what are the French plasma signs that, you know, something something is going to be lost that they won't be able to replicate through, you know, through not having the home and away ties throughout the whole year and having a neutral venue for a fine. Oh, it just will be different. My feeling is that. It probably probably didn't change. Yeah. But I'm not sure what needs to be quite so radical they had tried to push through less radical changes without any success of maybe that was why they went so radical to try and to try and just Jiang something. But it does feel like it's lost a little bit of its essence. I do agree with the French players when they say that marrying Shelley made an interesting point about, you know, one of the benefits of is is the fact that a lot more money now will be hopefully going to the smaller federations. And you know, Yannick Noah has experienced the best of the Davis Cup rarely he he doesn't know what it's like for some of those smaller nations, necessarily, so hopefully now with the investment, you can help small the nations and put it into junior tennis, and all that side of it, which makes the IT episode of pushing this good thing, and hopefully it will be hopefully, the money does get that. But you know, the other side of it is when you are at a tie like the one we've just had you know, which one go down as I- spectacular. Davis Cup tie. You know, that was probation with dominant in the singles it wasn't. It wasn't a sort of an all time classic the doubles as I said yesterday was fantastic. But even so it felt, you know, just like everyone they're cared about it and. For that weekend. It was a special weekend. And. That to me it felt when you're there fairly healthy. But oversee there's all the other sort of things that go with it. You know, the fact that it wasn't on TV in the UK and the top players have chosen to play, and then kind of move on from it and all the various other issues. So you know, I feel conflicted about it. That was a sadness today leaving the stadium having that it won't be like that again. But equally I am also intrigued to see how this new place out. Very well said both my view, I'm also conflicted. I what I would say before I give my own personal view is is just the I think we can get a little bit lost in the seductive words of Janik. No and all the French team and partly because they're so passionate. They they mean it so much they they're in love with the divest Cup. And I don't want it to change. And I have such a lot of respect for that. Because they brought so much to it. I feel similarly when I listened to lighten Hewitt talk from an Australia perspective. These people are always have had their hand up. They have every right to give their view because they've given everything of themselves to this competition and said that they have all the credibility in the Bank as a result of that having said, which does Myron Chile ch and he came on the tennis podcast in February and said, he thinks these plans are very good plans. And they're a good idea..

"And that we've just heard. He's very very engaging. He's you know, there's no one else in tennis like him. And I think you know, tennis will be a poor place without him and his and his press conferences, it's been good having him back for a few years. And the other thing is I think you know, the Davis Cup is such an emotional event. Isn't as the what we talk about most for the Davis Cup players emotions fans, emotions the passion. And I think now is words today would know when different really he was clearly emotional, and he's had this very unique relationship with Davis Cup as an east, but it's been everything he's been a fan of Playa a winner. Loser. Captain, he's given a lot competitions given him a law, and he he fails vice strongly about its future. What do you think about his views, generally, Catherine because? He just isn't accepting that this event is it will be next year that it even is the Davis Cup. He just will not they won't give it a chance because I'm in his teammates were sitting alongside him as well. It was there absolutely categoric that this is the wrong thing to be doing. What what what is your view of what he said, what is your view generally of the changes that might? I mean, I found that sort of what was it five six minute long soliloquy. I mean, it was it was a love letter to what he sees as a dying Davis Cup dollar-buying lover. I mean, it was it was extraordinarily. I mean, obviously that we told them there's something about the the tone in the cadence of his voice, isn't that? He can be saying something sort of in credit e e can be loping. This verbal grenade is so brilliantly. Put an yet, you also sort of feel that you're paying song lullaby. He is extraordinarily like that. And it's become a cliche with regard to discourse about the Davis Cup that kind of regardless of some of the irrationalism potentially irrational things these guys say about it. And I d think we get saying, I hope it files is is pretty if understandable, irrational Radi. That's like, you know. When when when applied leaves if someone else you like what I hoped I'm miserable together. You know, is that it's that kind of. Both full down a well in stay that forever. So, but you can't help celebrate the strength of feeling celebrate the emotion in what he's saying. And that emotion is what people on of of losing in the Davis Cup, isn't it? So regardless of whether you think he's ROY to wrong, and I happen to remember smoking about it with Charlie AKU share over the summer. I think one of the people in the world that feels feel not I didn't feel indifferent about it. I just feel quite neutral about the changes some aspects of the whole situation. Make me really nervous. And I am skeptical as to whether the work is not necessarily the the the sort of reformed Davis Cup that I would have fashioned. However, I do believe the Davis Cup needed reform. I really really do impressed with the speed with which they've managed to make things happen. I thought it would take years for the wheel. Of change to turn. And you know, credit to them of recognizing problem in getting something done again elements of it. I'm essentially elements of the reasons why it's happened say quickly make me nervous. But it needed changing. I'm willing to keep an open mind until I see the results of it. And I think it's a little bit of a shame that they're not saying I wish it well. I hope desperately that it does capture some of what we all love so much and if given to the Davis Cup rather than yeah. Just saying it all ends here in until the grenade. But I get it. I get you know, what are your views? Largely agree. I think you know, I think we've got to give it a chump seventy. It will be different. Two ways about it..

"Such amount of millions easy to save their Davis Cup. Who knows? I don't know. I mean, I honestly I knew I would tell you the only thing I know is what I experienced today. How much does it cost when the boy boy shaking the? Hand and every picture with Luca Pui, and he's from here. I'll merged as it cost emerged as it worth. How much? Is a dream how much in dollars how much this is where I'm coming from. I come from a dream from somebody shoot my hand. Get me a racket. This is will this was never happen. Again, the way it is nuts. Davis Cup that for sure. So here we are in he'll in Lille. We touching a lot of people. It's not it's not only these twenty five thousand people saw the people in the street. The people around we talking the drivers that children the pictures. I know that as we praying there are some strikes of people were upset because are some injustice in the world. We're talking about tennis. What what is it that? We can give what we can give Davis cut is to be able to come to Lille play. Croatia. Do our best and I've twenty twenty five thousand people happy to see some tennis. This is the way I feel. I don't know what's going to happen next. Actually, I told my players, you know, what? Next year go, but you know, it's not gonna be the same. Everybody knows. So why don't people tell the truth? Why don't people tell the truth? You will never be the same. We will never have this in wherever it is with all due respect. With all due respect, which I do have. But it's gonna be something else. But I really hope that they will not call his Davis Cup because this is not Davis Cup. Playing two sets is not Davis Cup playing somewhere else. It's not Davis Cup. So when when people tell US Davis Cup, they're lying. So if I ever voice, I'm going to tell them, you are liars, exactly the way, I did when I divorce the other day at the dinner, and I told Mr. the president I said, I'm discussed an upset to his face because I think it's a truth. This is the way I feel. I'm not saying that everybody has to feel the same way. Everybody has a right to their opinions. But I feel this way. Oh the Davis Cup because Davis was so much for me so much for me like so many his stories as a player as a spectator as a fan. I can tell you the history of Italian Davis Cup. That means so much where would be where would tennis being tally in Italy without Davis Cup. Where was so much? So now, you have these people that decided no, it doesn't matter. I don't know if they don't know. I don't know if they don't care. I don't know. But as I told the president, I am not from his world. We are some two different words. And this is it I'm outta here. This is my last press conference, I'm going to my life, and this is a truth. So I just expect people to tell the truth. That's all I mean, whatever truth, you know, we all have different truth. So there's, you know, the captain of the French team three times champions under him over a spell of twenty five twenty seven years in facts, and one of the legends of French sport. Let alone just Tennessee. He won the French Open himself. We're going to talk about those views that he holds about the future of the Davis Cup of festival. Matt you were in that room when it was going on just just describe what it was like to be there the atmosphere that you're experiencing. Yeah. Well, that probably the first thing to say is quite interesting experiences. These press conferences because they're very much into languages. You got the inning late in the bit and Frank show. There is a bit of sort of overlap between the two. Quite often. But basically to me felt like now was walking off not quite into the sunset because that would be probably after victory, but leaving tennis behind lobbing this grenade over his shoulder as he left says he came out with all these sort of very strong words about the Davis..

"They lose money on have pro circuit events that they're investing into the few. Future of the players. So that we're really developing the next generation of players. And that's why it's so important to us by we believe having one competition Davis Cup would be would be great for tennis. And just lastly, what plans do you have to form? The Fed Cup of a sleigh. The women maybe have been a bit left out in this. So far with the Davis Cup performs ATP Cup. What can you say about the Fed Cup? Well, we've had some very productive meetings on Fed Cup as well. And I think for twenty twenty or fit Cup committee in board have have discussed the possibility of doing something similar where we would expand the size of the world group made teams to a minimum of sixteen have a round of home and away and then have a finals with maybe eight teams or twelve teams in in a location. We're looking potentially in April the second week of Fed Cup where we would do that. So it's something that we have ambition for for twenty twenty. And so that's the project that we're working on. We have a way to go to, you know, get all those details hired out. But that's that's what our plan is. Okay. Thanks, david. Thank you for joining us on the cost. And have you have a excellent Davis final. Thanks very much. Appreciate your time. So those David Haggerty with Matt robots of our parish tennis podcast, Catherine. That was fascinating wasn't it to to hear Matt put such direct blunt questions his way and see what he said. And I was at least encouraged by the fact that he said those conversations last week were about trying to get to point where we have one team competition because that's I think what we all think we need to end up with. Yeah. Absolutely. I was encouraged by David taxi had to say the he referenced the the the best interest of tennis, which is something disappointing. We. Mentioned that often. I mean, it does make that announcement in the cinema. Oh by Chris, low sweet old mall. Bizarre. The we, you know seeming that David Taichi Rideau n- on those meetings. Is we have no reason to think that that is no, you know, just is posturing it is all just starting about showing the size of your weaponry. Isn't it? It's it's. Sosa filariases, but. Yeah. It's it's I think what. It does it does. But, but you know, at least at least still round table. I mean. Yeah, it sounds like the table. You know consists of a little Blake's going this. You know, this is how big my. Bone is how big Ilbo. But you know. He says the table table at least around it. Hi, matt. I mean, that's I mentioned it supposed time. You've hunt chance to interview David Haggerty. The will appears to be there. I actually from I I'm sure the wheel is there on all sides. They all know as you said, you said yourself, you quoted Chris KOMO they all know where we need to get up to. It's just the the need to figure out a way that they can all walk away fit in light that one of it. Yeah. It's just it's just a shame that it feels like it's going to have to come situation where we have these two of events for few years before before they're able to actually do something about it. Because Catherine says. Going ahead with it all just makes it makes the words at the moment seem a little bit redundant for the time being. But hopefully look into the future they they are on the same page. But you know, what if what if the Davis Cup next day? It doesn't turn out to be great and the ATP Cup. Does suddenly you're in a situation where you know, the P cups in a stronger position and the Davis Cup. So most having to sit of concede something to that. So it's gonna be interesting to see how they do play out. But at least from what they told me Laos also have singing from the same hymn sheet. Question. And actually just one of the point. I mean this Davis Cup final that y'all rats is going to be shown on the tennis channel in the US..

"Ahead to next day of the the competition is changing with many teams in the final eighteen teams venue. Some welcome nations. How you going to ensure that the new Davis Cup finals still fails like Davis Cup? So what what elements of this weekend? Will you be looking to replicate next year? Well, we're about seventy five. As a way from the first round qualifying in February so exciting this time as we look at the twelve matches that will take place the twelve ties between the twenty four teams to qualify for the finals. So I think that you know, what we continue to look at are the positive things that we're gonna see here in in Lille pick up on on what we do. Well, we're excited about being in Madrid. Because many of the teams that will be in the finals are from Europe. And many of the teams have spectators and fans that that will travel the travel today, we'll travel it's a great iconic venue. We have three stadiums and Russo it gives us the ability to really have a top world-class final with eighteen teams were excited about that. With the travelling fans, we're going to have that atmosphere of home and away. The nice thing is, you know, for the teams the spectators come they're short of seeing their team play over the first three days. A couple of matches minimum of two batches she'll be some great competition. And some may wanna stay in continuous even if their team is out of the finals from a broadcast perspective and streaming perspective. Now the world will be following. Because of the eighteen teams that will be there. They'll be a lot more interest. Whereas sometimes the finals can be the two countries that are playing and the rest of the world isn't as aware as they will be in two thousand nineteen. What if you made of the reaction to the Davis Cup fo-, obviously, plenty of support. But also to say some criticism as well. A couple of people who involve this weekend. Paducah we ignore have spoken out quite strongly against it. Well, the we respect the views of players in what we love is the passion that the captains and the players have the competition. That's what makes Davis Cup special. It's not just a attorney that you're playing representing your nation. It's wearing the colors carrying the flag. And we know that that's very important. So what's important to us too? Is to ensure that the first round of qualifying has the the home away aspect that you know, one of the DNA of the competition and to demonstrate with a final in Madrid that you will have that atmosphere. You will be playing for your country. It happens in other sports, and you're not always playing at home. So we think it's very very important changes difficult sometimes. And we understand the responsibility that we have as the ITF to make sure that we deliver a top class twenty nineteen Davis Cup final one of the main gripes may be that people have with the new competition is the is it position in the canon oversee at the moment Phan of ember next year, people said that's not ideal Jawa Zverev, for example, said he pens to the qualifying and Frankfurt in February. But then to be in the moldy in in November. When thinking long term when is the ideal position for you. You've obviously created gaps in the calendar of an April. Maybe some time off to Wimbledon. Does it have to be the end of the year? Other other options we had a very productive meeting last week in in London with the stakeholders with the grand slaves with the ATP and the players talking about great solutions for the future. I think collaboration is very very important having a team competition that having the Davis Cup at the right time for nail it's independent. But I think our discussions were very positive about possibilities. I mean, the issue that we have really is calendar. Not just for Davis Cup calendar for the players and for their health and wellbeing. So that at the end of the season, they're all firing on on all cylinders. I've had many conversations over the past fifteen years with stakeholders in different ways. This was by far the most positive..

"And and looking at the record of of Songa this year, I didn't realize how little he's played. I mean, I think he's about about. Five matches since February. And he's only one one because of that injury. Yeah. I mean, he had six seven months out of the game. Because the ninja, isn't it? And you know, that he was very good against millers ranch in a first round in Paris than it was three tiebreaks eventually lost out. But I think that that is a massive gamble. A really I think it's a big amble pudding Sanga in there than either there too. I don't know about you it. Maybe he's concocted Yannick. No this back injury. If song is to create nineteen Ninety-one esque circumstances. He's kind of a captain isn't a, and you know, we we know and we'll come on to talk about this with them Matz. Berlin is view with David Haggerty, but we know Jahic ignore and the French team feel about the Davis Cup performs. I think he is doubly motivated will Tripoli Oko dramatically this year to to prove a point about the magic of the Davis Cup. I'm what's going to be lost? So. I did I d think he doesn't just want to win the Davis Cup and for it to be brilliant tennis. I think he wants to be a sprinkle of something Omay supernatural about it. And you know, maybe song as the guy to deliver that rather than leaker point. Hey, we still a really good chance Pio come in for the reverse singles. Now, isn't it because he's trying to come the first while the third captain to win the Davis Cup four times. He's he's already won it three times oversee once just last year.
