Positive tests force Nuggets to close practice facilities
"To the NBA Pelicans executive VP. David Griffin sold reporters yesterday three Pelicans. Players have tested positive for the corona virus. He also said the status of sixty five year old head coach Alvin Gentry had yet to be determined for the bubble. Elsewhere the nuggets were forced to temporarily closed their practice facility after a round of positive tests among the teams thirty five person Traveling Party for Orlando
Is Zion Living Up to the Hype for the Pelicans?
"Were in Dallas for the pelicans overtime loss to the Mavericks. Second night of a back to back for New Orleans obviously but we didn't see the Zion. We've sort of been spoiled by over the last month. So what did you get from Zion? On Wednesday night. I saw someone who had to go through a little bit of adversity. There's two different things working against him in that Dallas Game One. It was the first time he played on a back to back. You didn't see his legs under him. Early actually play but gets the block on Williamson Williamson. Took his time getting up court. You may be subbing out of the ball game here. He is drew and Lonzo Ball. We're GONNA come on up to him. Hey man you you're right you you tired. Are you going to play? You GotTa pick one. The other thing. Going against him was Dallas they started Maxi Kluber alongside of kristaps porzingis specifically for Zion Williamson two. That might have been forcing a psychotic burst that is just perfectly played deep that still by Dallas Cleveland's doing A. They went to the formula. That's been working. Which is the. We're GONNA get the tallest guy we have can defend him to do it. And then have another seven footer. Awesome plus footer at the Rim Ryan got blocked inside again. It's not possible in less. Cleber is being this physical and allowing time for kristaps ticket over there. Lieber six ten obviously porzingas seven three. Those have been the only really match ups that have given him problems when they played the box. Janas guarded him and then you have the Lopez twins behind him. Protecting the RIM defers Lakers game. Anthony Davis guarded him. And you had jovial and Dwight rim so that combination kind of went against his favor so walk me through a little bit of the process on the back to back portion of it because this is obviously part of the Adjustment For Zion. So where do you find the line? If you're the PELICANS in trying to get him experienced doing things like back to backs that he'll be asked to throughout his career and then also sort of adjusting him since he is still getting fresh on the court after an injury yeah so initially David Griffin the PELICANS executive vice president of basketball operations who should have a shorter title. It's a mouthful say every time I don't know I mean if you're going to have a title let's go big with it like if I'm going to have a business card the whole front of it's going to be my title and the backs. Just going to say fits. There's not not my first name. Just I'm pretty sure that's what his business card says. I haven't seen one but I'm pretty sure that's it has to read like that initially As I was coming back from the injury. Grif said he wasn't there. Were probably going to take it easy on back to backs. Now the good thing that kind of worked into their favor there was January. Twenty second was when he made his debut since then the Tuesday Wednesday back to back that they just had was the first time they had a back to back so they got to let him get games under his belt. He mentioned to his own Tuesday. You know I have to do the recovery if I want to perform the way that I'm capable of performing as you try to push for or is this your mutual agreement Little bit of both but I need a push for myself because I gotTa do the recovery of I want to be able to perform. We do every night with that. Being said coming off the knee injury there were reports that he was learning how to walk differently. How to run differently? I mean when they're watching him and they're monitoring and what are they looking for his indicators of his health very funny to me because I think George Sodano said that I think on ESPN broadcast and it just kind of blew up. He's learning how to walk and anybody who's been through physical therapy at any point that I for any sort of knee. Injuries foot injury. Whatever it is can tell you. They will relearn how to walk in physical therapy. The learning how to walk and run differently was more about little things in his gate that they wanted to fix. The biggest thing that they really wanted to correct at that time was how he landed when you go back and watch how he landed at. Duke with these huge one handed slam traffic. He's landing on one foot one of the big things you see. Now when he goes up for a dunk whether it's an alley whether he's just throwing it down to hands. He tries to land on two feet as much as possible. Zeile yeah that the to hand flush and a great entry fee for Lonzo Ball over Kunst buck to finish that would KUPA gotta be thinking. What in the world so. It's little things that maybe you don't know at nineteen years old that the Pelicans are trying to instill in him so they can take a little bit of stress off of his knees. The biggest thing you just said is nineteen if you listen to Zion. He'll make sure he tells you. He's nineteen in just about every other interview. I feel like I mean but doesn't right like we are so busy trying to make him either the savior of a lead. That doesn't need to be saved or the reason that we're over. Hyping somebody to the point that people ridicule how much we talk about it but you look at it at some point. Say this is a nineteen year old kid. We're talking about that is absolutely crushing in a limited sample size. So let's turn the tone positive here for a second you're looking at a nineteen year old kid. What he's doing is unprecedented right. It's absolutely unprecedented. Feel like every other night we were finding ways to start a sentence with Zion Williamson. Doing something and we ended it with Michael Jordan or Shaquille O'Neill or Tim Duncan or wilt. Chamberlain the goes on and on and on. And you're like that doesn't make sense.
Dog noses detect heat, the world faces coronavirus, and scientists search for extraterrestrial life
"Up this week. I talked with online news editor David Brim about how dogs noses may be able to detect heat next. We have international editor Martin answering. He's GonNa tell us about the latest news on Corona virus finally in an interview from the triple. As annual meeting producer. Meghan Cantwell talks with Jill. Tarter about the latest technologies being used to search for. Alien Life. Now we have on news editor David Griffin. And he's here to share his favorite online story from the week. Hi Dave Sarah. Okay so I think I know this is your favorite. It involves animals doesn't just involve animal. Seren involves one of my favorite animals which is a dog domesticated animals domesticated animals. Yes yeah so yeah so we love to do dog and cat stories or as much as we can and this is a really cool on because we sort of feel like we kind of figured everything out about dogs and even cats. I mean we've lived with them for ten thousand fifteen thousand years doesn't like there'd be any more surprises but the study says there's Least one surprise left with dogs. We didn't know about right. So if your dog sitting there looking at you funny tilting its head. And you're like what if it what is it might be sensing an odd heat signature in the room. We already know dogs. Noses are super amazing hair smells sensitivity is about a hundred million times more sensitive than ours. Were this new study showing that actually dogs don't detect sense can actually detect heat as well They detect heat with their nose. That's right. They're sensing weak thermal radiation in so dogs like a lot of mammals. They have this kind of naked smooth skin on the tips of their noses around their nostrils. Our noses are wet and cold as quite as innovative as dogs are and so. This coldest is actually kind of a clue because you know in order to sense heat. You can't be hot right otherwise you wouldn't be able to tell if something is like if you have a fever or if you have a warm hand you touch somebody with a fever. You're not gonna be able to sense it very well but if you spend five minutes outside it's really cold and you touch something head. Even if they're normal temperature it's going to feel really warm to you and sort the similar idea with dog noses because it's cold and wet it's able to be able to text up even just sort of marginally warmed hasn't even super warm dies had cold wet noses and actually have a hard time thinking of another animal. That has a nose like this but I know there are other animals that can sense thermal signals. Have the same kind of thing going on right sir. Like vampire bats can actually sense thermal radiation Certain species of snakes can do that and they also both these also have colder noses and so the fact that dogs also had these sort of legendarily cold those sort of gives a hint and researchers wanted to test a new. Study that we're going to see. Well can dogs actually do this? This is something that's always tricky testing the senses of an animal their ability to perceive something. How did they set it up in this study? Will they work with dogs who please So this was mercifully. Not An experiment done on. Cats were much different outcome but the first experiment. They have three pet dogs and they had that choose between a warm objects and my warm. We mean about thirty one degrees. Celsius so slightly warmer that room temperature and then a room temperature object and he please objects about one point six meters away from the dogs. The dogs were touching these objects. They actually had to be able to sniff out this heat at a distance The office looked and smelled exactly the same. Or How do they know? They smelled the same. I assume they controlled for that. I mean I assume that these these are basically objects. I don't think we described in the story but these are pretty bland object. I think it's a couple of boards with a heat thing in the middle of it so these are not very olfactory interesting objects and they're exactly the same Dave. When you heat something up it does smell different. How do we know that? The dog isn't king and on that. And they have these amazing sniffers will the researchers another set of experiments this time with thirteen dogs and they were able to get them in an effort. Marai scanner which measures brain activity and they saw that when the dogs were sniffing out objects that were slightly warmer. There were areas of the brain. There were activating there. Were not the same areas at activate when they smell something so it was if specific region the brain. It's to be lighting up but again it was only when the dogs were detecting thermal radiation. They did not see these regions light up when the dogs were. Just try to sniff out an object. That was just room temperature. So that combined with the previous experiment does not conclusive but it really adds up to this idea. That dogs really do have. This can actually sniff out. Warmness a not a sense with their with their noses. Why am I that BE USEFUL FOR DOGS? Or THEIR ANCESTORS. Were we know that these other animals like the vampire bats stakes these it in hunting? So they're not just hunting by looking at things but since emotional smelt heat especially for stakes is really important and so what this suggests is dogs and we all know. Dogs are descended from Gray Wolves. Who were very effective hunters and rules need to be able to sniff out pray and you can imagine that if if they're just relying on smell alone they may be missing something. That's maybe hiding or may be covered up by other odors but if they can sense heat as well especially heat at a distance that's GonNa make them much more effective hunters of any warm blooded prey and so the feeling is that dogs may have inherited this ability from their ancestor of the Grey Wolves. I guess they can try to test out next they can. They can try to experiment with wolves. It'll probably be a little trickier thank you so much. Dave thanks David. "On Doug Golly filling in for Colin Cowherd who I'm sure at some point in time when bite me to hang out with him today like usually does hey launch it come up to Utah Friday is I'm Don? Andrea big boy invite though all but did he miss Lewis smorgasbord of topics. We have today including including Lebron James The gift that keeps giving I mean the gift that keeps giving so. I don't know why David Griffin did it. Maybe it's still Carmelo. Anthony was on T._v.. Today to deny when everybody knows to be true speaking his truth it is is it's a bit odd that David Griffin who is employed in the N._B._A.. As a general manager now with New Orleans Pelicans who just pulled off a blockbuster deal we'll trade with rich Paul Lebron James L. A. Lakers Anthony Davis for all the guys Lebron didn't one airs out at least some form of dirty laundry in his work that helped secure a championship for Lebron James in Cleveland but he did and we will will reap the benefits of it. Thank you very much so apparently it ain't all that much fun to work with Lebron James. This has been uttered by people in Miami this when he left there weren't there were hard feelings. It wasn't a a sullen goodbye this this has been uttered by Phil Jackson who talked about how much Miami still didn't really like the culture that Lebron James brought to Miami and how he fought how Pat Riley one run that organization. It's why we were told Kyrie Irving left Cleveland not because of playing with with the Bron James but everything that went into playing with and for Lebron James It's why Kevin Durant early in this last season and said hey thanks but no things I don't WanNa play around Lebron James because it's it's an environment filled with toxicity so David Griffin sat down with at two different parts to it one was sports illustrated and of course he had he was on the woge pod odd as well but the sports illustrated article has some money quotes quote everything we did was so inorganic and unsustainable frankly not not fun..

"That as that made sense it made sense to grow the next champion as they third guy and i think what you're seeing is you can't take three of the top five players in the world and sticking together and let them like that but you might be able to put two of the top five players in the world in temple fifteenth on that team right so i i think that's possible but i don't think anybody who's a signature shoe guy wants to be part of you know being viewed as the third will i i think it's just a matter of how you build your team you know toronto won a championship see outcome was probably as good throughout that whole period of time is anybody was so if seok changes hands is he part of building is a super team like this all becomes about media perception and all becomes that perceptions greater than reality guys the impact winning and losing games and give you a chance to be great are more important than guys would name recognition so if the guy's name recognition don't wanna join forces anymore i don't care i just need to both a team in that's the way the greatness king show itself and its attracted to be energy we create for everybody maybe especially in the western conference everybody building a team when the news came late night that the lakers working i have three they were gonna have to the clippers are gonna have to i spent the collective sigh of relief around the league not that anybody who's running the clippers but nobody wants to deal with that reality who's gonna make maybe make the leap looked like is that fair just say like a little bit cy okay nobody wanna do with those three i want you why lebron yeah so initially when when the news came out and started a co why had chosen the clippers they will literally literally a momentary sigh of relief and new orleans because we hold the laker picks moving forward in vote that trio together would have been a lot scarier in terms of what those picks mayor may not be worth at least in the short term they would have been scarier ending almost instantaneously the news the paul george with going there as well happened in i think there was a reality of boy it's an arms race in elway an we had entered free agency saying look if land the plane on everything we wanna do those teams better the nuts there's teams that are more prepared to win but he who is clearly better than us clippers they answered that question for it's pretty clear this is a lot of fun a lot of fun sprinting back with you this time running the pelicans a little i will share the rest of the summer league in training camp thank thank you rush had a great time.
Zion Williamson ruled out for rest of Summer League after suffering minor injury in Pelicans debut
"Welcome to the jump we're coming to you live from beautiful las vegas states three of summer league feels really like day a hundred because regency started it's just this is all we do is sit around and talk about dmv is year round and why are we showing zion coming the show because look who is alongside the future hall of famer vince carter the future hall of famer finals mvp paul pierce be general manager of the new orleans pelicans david griffin thank you so much for being back with us we appreciate it glad to be here all right so he was fantastic on friday especially once he thought he got comfortable right near the basket but he did have that need any contact so let me know how he has been feeling and what you're concerns were when you saw that 'cause they didn't play the second half yeah he's he's fine he came to us he wasn't in great condition and from a cardio perspective it wasn't a great situation to begin with so when he took that shot really it was just from my standpoint it was more cautious than anything else just shut him down at that point because there is no reason to push him when he was in the situation he was in you
NBA free agency reactions
"Is what our NBA expert as Ricky o'donnell was up Ricky I'm too in very well so what well I I don't know what to say about everything that happened tonight to it did anything really surprise you about the free agency moves today I think you the friendliness of it it's almost like the league randomizer button today and tell it was dispersed throughout the rest of the NBA so if you feel like a totally new legal next year looking at it now at least before quite Leonard makes decision I don't think there's really a favorite right now that you know stand above the other team the warriors obviously you know losing Teheran takes them out of the championship picture next year locate on the injury so I think just the the friendliness of it was the thing that struck me about tonight will help him for going to the Philadelphia seventy six or four hundred nine million for four years that was a well we we heard rumors about the seventy Sixers during the week but we were thinking Mavericks we are thinking pelicans and I just didn't think you wind up with a seventy six with a lot of things had to happen to me but they're getting traded J. J. Redick Levon but here he is now in a row the arch rival of the Celtics the in the east the seventy Sixers now they have al Horford yeah it's a really fascinating moved from Philadelphia's perspective because it blocks the norms of the late basketball is headed these days to wind up with two centers in and beating harder to power forwards and then send it in to buy a terrace in then just one garden Josh Richards and that it's not gonna have a lot of three point shooting it certainly gonna have no pull up three point shooting in terms of a garden create off the dribble so and to even try to do it with the eyes they can try to do it with incredibly tough defense and with the smart basketball players of really fascinating concept for a team and we'll see if Elton brand look like a genius when the season gets underway Kimball Walker the Celtics and they did a sign and trade with the Terry rose here going to the Charlotte Hornets Nova that's not a bad trade off in Cuba might actually better be better as a team guy enters a distributor with with his teammates for the Celtics and Cary was but but I think the bigger losses for for who they're going to play at center this year yeah that's all these have to be looking at their free agent options is better right now they're pretty slim I think there's a huge Iran and big man today ordered meant so much to that team I agree that swapping out cabin carry this possibility that the site upgrades to Boston but adding need to find something in the middle and up with so many that topic men off the board they might have to start looking for someone the bargain in terms of free agent signings well boogie cousins I was gonna say the Andre Jordan but he's with the nets now Ennis canner I I I don't know who's out there to play center for them who's left yeah I think that Spanish is one of the deepest positions in the NBA right now because team his sort of reduce the number of big man they want on their roster typically so there's gonna be some guys flying under the radar I like Ken birch a lot quicker for Landau last season he could be a good backup forum I think Robert Williams who they drafted last year that improving your too so we'll have some options but corporate meant so much to that team over the last few seasons that certainly gonna leave a big hole center for the Celtics you know I look at the pelicans are doing with David Griffin I'm I'm sure yeah they they would rather not have had to trade Anthony Davis was a top five spell player in the league but I think considering the circumstances the return they got for him and now signing J. J. Redick today and creating thirty one million in cap space by you know force in the Solomon hill on the hawks I think David Griffin has done a about as good a job as could be expected here under the circumstances yeah the pelicans have been terrific signing here attic today they also got their neighbors we should start the moment center looks pretty good right now they can run out fevers and Diane and the phone cord on the wing your Brandon Ingram in the back court you still have Lago balls through holiday each one more so a lot of the intriguing pieces on that team there suddenly pretty competent right away I think that Diane is the rare rookie who could hit the ground running yeah I think he's going to peak earlier in his career than most NBA players do given the fact that his expose that lettuces and is one of the defining qualities so I think the pelicans are trending in the right direction how about this that the Lakers don't get quite Leonard I wouldn't be surprised how it can win more games next year yeah and I think if they D. had stayed with the pelicans the probably be in a better team right now than the Lakers yeah I wrote that destination back after the post in one draft lottery that in the Davis is top priority is winning should reconsider staying with the pelicans obviously Davis wanted to get the needed I wanted to get to LA so I think the pelicans done a really impressive job the rebounding from
Every Team's Top Potential Free-Agent Targets After 2019 NBA Draft
"You about to be immersed in woke bombs, because it is that time of the year. Our NBA insider, everyone else joins us. Whoa. Just before we get into free agency, which is going to be interesting. We are now what twelve hours removed from the draft. Your initial takes who won who lost? Well, I thought the two teams who made the most significant trade last night. New Orleans, and Atlanta, both fared very well maximize the assets that they had Atlanta moving up into number four. To get. The hunter from Virginia. Maybe most versatile forward in this draft the best defensive player player doesn't need the ball in his hands. They've got a lot of scoring on Atlanta team. And then Cam, reddish, who is probably a top three or four talent taking a little bit of a flyer on him at ten and then New Orleans, you know, their ability to keep expanding this Anthony Davis trade. They got Jackson Hayes at center beyond Ziya Williamson David Griffin, thanks, that's going to give them in the long term. Maybe the most athletic front court in the league pick up another first round pick. And now also have nearly thirty million dollars in salary cap space to go out and free agency. And some veterans to this team that could make it conceivable that, that the pelicans could make the playoffs in their first year without Anthony Davis. And usually when you trade a player of that, caliber. From a small market, you're going into a full rebuild. But I think the winning the lottery being able to get Zion Williamson has a lot of David Griffin to go and just the opposite direction. And they're set up really well in New Orleans, talking about teams on the way up in there seems kind of scratching our heads about that would be the Celtics. What what's going on there? Well, listen, they're preparing to lose career being Al Horford in free agency. They've got in the neighborhood of twenty six twenty seven twenty eight million dollars in cap space, they could use that to go after Senator to replace Al Horford. Nicola Busa vich in Orlando's a free agent. The Lakers have interest there if they can get the cap space for him if they want to put all in one player, but which is at priority in Orlando. You know, there's I think there's motivation on both sides to get a deal done. But if they weren't able to, you know, Boston's and position to swoop in there and try to make a deal with vich Boston still has some really good young players. Now they go from team that thought they were ready to compete for championships to a team now built around Jason Tatum. Jalen Brown Gordon Hayward who still on the right side of thirty years old, and who probably will have a much better season this year than last. But they've got to address that point guard position in Boston. They obviously have taken a step back if both of those players are gone free agency and that's and that's how they feel. That's how it appears right now talking to Adrian ward NASCAR ESPN NBA insider on the show Pennzoil performance line. And something we had Brian win horse on earlier. We're talking a little bit about as teams you mentioned move things around or creating cap space right now. The idea that the seventy Sixers with some available cap space could potentially take shot or try and get a meeting with Kawhi Leonard coming up in free agency. Tell us what you think about the viability of that. Oh, I think they'll get a meeting. I mean listen getting a meeting and being a serious contender for free agent are two different things and very often the relationships in place that will allow a team to get a meeting I thought all along Philadelphia would probably get a meeting for Leonard. I think the Knicks will also get a meeting with Leonard, but the front runners are still Toronto and the clippers. But. Players and their representatives will meet often sometimes as a courtesy with other teams but their focus in Philadelphia is keeping their own. And that's Jimmy Butler Tobias Harris and JJ Rettig. He's an important part of that group too, and he's coming off an outstanding season. It's going to be expensive to keep that team together. They knew that when they made the trades for Harris and for Butler, but their priorities to keep them and also find a way to keep there. You know, I think they may get a meeting with Leonard, but I don't think they're going to be a physician to sign them or insider, eighty ask is with us right now. Whoa. What, what are we hearing? The latest on the, the possibility that there might be a sign and trade deal that keeps Kevin Durant in Golden State, while he's rehabbing. So he gets his money, and then they'll be able to get something for money moves on trade. I don't know anything about that. I think the focus and Golden State right now is to try to sign Kevin Durant to keep Kevin Durant in with the warriors. They're going to offer him a five-year max contract, just as they were before the Killys injury. You know all the options that were there for Kevin Durant before that injury are still there. All the teams that were recruiting him that we're willing to essentially offer them the full scholarship, nobody's pulling back on the book or the meal plan, he's getting full scholarship from everybody. Maximum. Allowable for years with another team five years with the warriors, and they're determined to try to keep him keep Klay Thompson. Great analogy, by the way. As far as actual galleys of free agent when you can actually talk and deal with players. Forgetting that how much of the race is going on right now in the timing issues of these teams talking back door to try and get these things done. Now I mean we live in the real world, Mike and free agency started weeks ago just did. And so it's ongoing. You cannot keep people from talking, there are different philosophies out there. There are different styles going at it. I'm not saying every team is out every free agent is out, literally to go shitting numbers. But are there, some yes there are, and that's always been the case? But I think because of how many teams have so much you have over ten I think ten eleven teams with over twenty million dollars in space and teams who could go get it with one trade. Or waving a player who's got a partial guarantee. So there's lots of moving parts in this free agency teams don't want to be left behind. but you could also you can talk to your own player all the way through boston was able to talk about extension with al horford and it didn't look like they were not close on the numbers and that's why horford is headed in the free agency he feels they have some confidence there's a much bigger offer or offers out there for
Lakers Are Leader in the Clubhouse for Anthony Davis Trade with Pelicans
"I wanna update to with how much free agencies talked about the off season talked about. Someone who isn't a free agent, but he's to be traded. His Anthony Davis now ESPN article that was released yesterday. The clippers Lakers Nixon nets no surprise have all inquired, about the pelicans big man's services, David Griffin, according to sources, and the CSPAN article his only timetable is to get a deal done before the draft. He is looking for an all star a young player with potential and two first round picks. I don't know if he's gonna get all that. But he makes it clear. He wants to build around Zion Williamson, we'll be the first overall pick in the draft and drew holiday, according to sources as they try to build a playoff team. Maybe the Celtics got in the mix as well. At this point, the Celtics most like the loose, Kyrie Irving. I don't think they're going to give up Jason Tatum. Jalen brown. And what else is that gonna be enough? Probably not. So it appears to me. Amil seat. They wanna make a deal with the Lakers Griffin's. Get care about all the prior BS. But it looks like the Lakers of the next of the most to offer what the Knicks Kevin. Knox Robinson and you have the third pick in the draft. Lakers, even though the young players perturbed that their idol and LeBron James wanted them out to get Anthony Davis to get Rich Paul client. And. Even though they were hurt by that they're going to go to that. Merry go round again. And you have to deal with it. That's what happens when you're professional, but I would imagine rob Pelinka genie Buston company to do whatever it takes trying to get Anthony Davis. And yet, the fourth pick of the draft. Yes. Young talent as well, Ingram coups Ma ball. You could get a deal done. So if I'm guessing Anthony Davis on the clippers. I don't think he's on the Celtics. I don't think he's on the nets the Lakers of the Knicks have the most offer
NBA Trade Rumors: Latest Rumblings on Anthony Davis
"When it comes to Anthony Davis. Let's be clear about something, this is an individual that knew that he was going towards a supermax contract if he had made all the all NBA team, all second team, a couple of years in a row, you know, was an MVP whatever the case may be the stipulations that come with being a super max the number one or two businesses that you can only get it from the team that drafts you. Okay. So when you look at it from that perspective for the most what anyway, so when you look at it from that perspective, this is a man, that knew he was going towards the supermax deca pay him in excess of two hundred and fifteen million in Lord knows if you saw didn't even long term deal could approach three hundred million dollars and the man made it clear he was willing to walk away. So if you made it clear, then, even before, David Griffin arrived, what would make you think he would change his mind? Now you have to take into consideration. It's not about David Griffin. It's not about Alvin gentry. It's about the fact that he may want to be in a different locale and people in New Orleans and other players just need to accept that everybody doesn't wanna be down in the big easy. I love it. Two restaurants. A fabulous. The crowd is amazing, the fans of fantastic. Put it ain't for everybody. And that's really the situation after the Davis has been there long enough to know what he wants and what he doesn't want. And if the man said that he wanted out, and he allowed that to be circulated in disseminated rather than trying to convince him. Otherwise, if you really want to move forward move forward by moving on from him and making sure you get the best package as you possibly can.
Is Zion Williamson enough to completely change the Anthony Davis trade?
"To the draft lottery. Now New Orleans which six percent shot to get the number one pick got it almost certainly drafts. I n Williamson. The pelicans would love a line of which includes both on an AD. Anthony Davis put according to reports drafting Zion will not change Davis's trade demands. He still wants out Persad with eighty making a steak force in a trade with a chance to play alongside Zairean hasn't changed as as look when you're a superstar AD stature, you don't change based on a rookie draft pick that we don't know what he's going to be as much as we like him. This is about a big market. Let's face like, okay. What this is about. This is the team they lost regime Rondo outside of that day. Essentially had the same theme that swept the current Western Conference finals, Portland. Trailblazers bogey was on the was out though, it he was that was golfer to play. Off. So they swept them so and the organization wasn't that will run before. Now, you gotta solid GM and David Griffin. Okay. This is about a big market. So if AD can get to the Lakers with LeBron or still the Knicks to play with Kevin Durant, and Kyrie Irving, that's a good look fine. That wouldn't be a mistake outside of those two though, I do think a decent reconsider. This isn't a bad situation. You guys Zion. You got drew holiday. You got some other piece around him, and if Julius Randle ops out, which he probably will only go make my million had a very good year, and you wave and stretch Solomon hill, you could have twenty four million dollars to play with that helps you do a trait or get another player. Mike Conley is going to be on the market yet. Because John, right. So if you can get a Mike Conley to play withdrew holiday AD and

But the fact that everything went to chaos right away. And you had the Knicks and Lakers in the mix and the final four. But then they're not even the ones who get the top two picks the top pick to New Orleans. Pelicans zion. Williamson is now not only the beginning of changing for that team. He is going to be a valuable chip for GM David Griffin to try to use to keep Anthony Davis there. Here's why push back on that. Anthony Davis himself was a number one pick, and you know, the land the land here the guy wants out of town. He's been with an organization he doesn't think can win. I get designs a nice piece, but Davis has been that piece himself. Why would that change his opinion that I wanna go play somewhere else? Well, you're right. I mean, this is a guy who were that's all folks shirt his last game. So we know where his mindset is. However, they have made some changes to management there does really like coach Alvin gentry the fact that they are bringing in help in the shape of Zion. Williamson they hope is enough to convince him. Hey, why don't you just play out the rest of the year here? He doesn't control where he goes next. He can ask her trade, but they trade him anywhere, Scott and David Griffin can look at him and say, I'm in charge, and I'm gonna make things better for you than I if it works. And I think that message was loud and clear tonight last quick thought, and all all these things are sort of seeing through the prism of Ziyad. And I I have to push back remind myself, he's still a kid. I know he looks like he's a young man. It was there any read as this plays out any realizes. Okay. It's New Orleans that's likely where I'm going to go. Are there any any read of like, okay? How did he react to that? At all. Yeah. I mean to me he kind of looked like he'd been hit by a truck. I understand that. When he woke up this morning Orleans was not what he was thinking. Maybe I'll have some as I actually got a chance to chat with him a little bit before all started. This is a kid who has such calmness about him. He is ready for the moment. And I'm sure once he resets his mindset to think. Okay, Norlin he's gonna say Benue sound pretty good. Let's see what happens next. They are. But you got you gotta be careful those I got reckless with some venues, it'll put you in a bad

NBA star LeBron James signs contract with Los Angeles Lakers
"To be with all of you tonight this is one of those nights where if you're in my shoes if you're hosting a radio show you think lebron james four announcing his decision to move to los angeles and become a los angeles laker an announcement from his representation clutch sports group lebron's james has agreed to a four year one hundred fifty four million dollar contract with the los angeles lakers with that emotions tapped off in cleveland again almost eight years to the week from the original decision which ran on national television lebron has done this three times now made huge decisions that shape or maybe reshape the face of the league reshaped the landscape the topography of the league want to get your thoughts on it eight five five two one two four cbs and we'll talk to james herbert later on this hour and then we'll take more phone calls later in the hour because this is a big deal obviously this'll be one of the bigger news stories of the year back in two thousand ten lebron announced his decision to move from cleveland to miami via a made for tv special eight years later today it's a simple tweet from his representation in between back in two thousand fourteen when he was announcing his return to cleveland from miami he along with lee jenkins from espn i'm sorry from sports illustrated posted a first person letter to everybody to his fans to miami to cleveland and it's interesting to go back and look at it now i'm not gonna read the whole thing but it is interesting to go back and look at bits and pieces of it and i kind of page down to the middle of it here and he says my goal is still to win as many titles as possible no question but what's most important for me is bringing one trophy back to northeast ohio which he did continuing and this is interesting i always believed that i'd return to cleveland and finish my career there i just didn't know when so when he returned in two thousand fourteen i think it's safe to say that lebron was not exactly looking for this day to be happening this day where he would be making his next move to his third team to his third city i've always believed that i'd return to cleveland finished my career there unless he goes back to cleveland one more time and don't rule it out with lebron because ultimately ohio is home for him but didn't happen this time around guessing some things happen along the way that maybe soured him a little bit think losing david griffin the general manager who he really liked about a year ago had anything to do with this i mean if you're looking at things that changed then a kyrie irving trade which lebron claims he didn't want but let's face it the reports are that lebron wasn't exactly he didn't exactly treat kyrie the same way he treated dwayne wade and chris bosh let's just put it that way continuing with a couple more things in the letter and then hit the phones eight five five two one two four two two seven i looked at other teams but i wasn't gonna leave miami for anywhere except cleveland this lebron in two thousand fourteen the more time passed the more it felt right this is what makes me happy to make the move i needed support on my wife and my mom who can both be very tough he talks about repairing his relationship with dan gilbert even goes on to say who am i to hold a garage at the very end here is here is the most interesting part of the the letter to me i'm not promising a championship i know how hard that is to deliver we're not ready right now no way of course i wanna win next year but i'm realistic it'll be a long process much longer than it was in two thousand ten my patients will get tested i know that i'm going into a situation with a young team and a new coach i'll be the old head of by the way that new coach yeah that didn't last long oh by the way tie lou now you get to actually coach have fun winners and losers in this decision are fascinating continuing i see myself as a mentor now and i'm excited to.

"What resonates maybe with an executive i think one thing first of all it's the most difficult thing we do in the nba from my standpoint i believe the hardest thing we do in the front office is higher coach and i think if you're doing it within just the timeframe of your coaching search if you announce in march that you're going to have a search in all you learn about the candidates is between march and whenever you fill the job you probably didn't know enough about them to hire them in the first place and i think sam prestige is a really good example of this he had interest in billy donovan i think for years and years intellectually he was intrigued by the way billy win about building culture and so sam himself went to florida practices he got the no billy as a human being not entirely because he ever thought he would be a candidate for the job but because he was intrigued by billy and he paid attention and was a student of the types of coaches he would embrace and again i i don't think it was every they slight towards the coach he had at the time but he was just he had intellectual curiosity about billy from very early period of time and so i think you'll you'll find that a lot of front offices have this kind of intellectual curiosity about coaches and they have a shortlist all the time of people they think are really good that doesn't mean that they wanna replace the coach they have but it means look things happen and we're going to need to know what the next wave looks like and so often i think you'll see teams go through a really extended search and talk to what looks like far too many people and your initial reaction on the outside is to say boy they don't have any idea what they wanna do and the reality is they're just building database of information that if they have to go through this again they've learned a great deal about somebody already so i think ultimately the answer to your question is it all depends on what you don't know about a given candidate if.

"Well in the other the other component that made it very difficult was we were doing the coaching search in may in cairo hadn't even committed to stay with us until july so people didn't know for sure that kyrie was going to be there you know he was one of the guys that people questioned to some degree whether or not he was even going to sign on long term so our roster was also seen as being in a state of flux so what ended up happening was as we went through the process we gathered as much information as we could on candidates of all types and that's how david got into the search was we were really trying to expand our horizons a little bit and and learn what we didn't already know and we felt like we had a template where we were going to have a very young team led by kyri and other young players we were going to have cap space and we figured we would target kids within the age range of kyri and what ended up happening was when lebron came back it was just sort of like flipping a switch so david was the perf coach for the team we envisioned having which was a young team that was going to grow any fall together and he would have been able to learn and grow on the job it rate that would have made sense unfortunately what ended up happening was once the decision was made to hire david and i guess unfortunately or fortunately depending on how you look at it once the decision to hire david was made everything sort of fell into place with all of the free agent pursuits we'd made most importantly lebron and and so it just became a mad dash to me we must win this championship and rather the fit wasn't what we envisioned it being initially because we weren't the kind of team we thought we would be and ironically the addition of lebron made his job infinitely more difficult because of the window in which he was going to have to figure it all out and it just wasn't fair to david and it really wasn't fair to the group as a whole the way it all came together and you know in the end that's that's my fault if.

"School and you could enjoy watching the ark of their career while they were in college as well and that fill in nova team has just done an unreal job and jay's almost kind of rewritten the formula in terms of recruiting and style of play jay chances at the nba and teams have called him in recent years and he said no i don't think he's gotten very close with any i don't think he's got too far down the road he's thought about it and i know jay has talked you know just he knows people in the nba has good relationships and i know he's bounced the idea around is almost every really successful college coach does because they all think about it but some of the openings that are there this year you know there's some jobs right now and you know this you're not going to win and you're going to get you're gonna get spit out into or three years and they're not good organizations they're not well run i think jay's if he ever does it you know he can be pretty picky because i think he's going to have that opportunity it's not going away just because he'd been out win the national title next year i think he's in a situation not unlike what brad stevens was when boston came to him and in that job spoke to him because of the presence of danny ainge because he believed in the stability of ownership jay can be incredibly selective i mean he's he's built what obviously dynasty at this point so they're certainly not going to be a rush and i think for him as it would be for any significant college coach it's going to be about fit in belief that your vision of what it should look like can actually be reached and that you can be in lockstep with the guys you're you're doing it with.

"Hey everyone welcome into another dish in of the wo jr pod my guest today david griffin who won a nba championship as general manager of the cleveland cavaliers in two thousand and sixteen and was a part of a great deal of nba and western conference success and his seventeen years in the front office with the phoenix suns griffin i hit a lot on head coaching and the nba head coaching searches college coaches like jay right john b line how they might fit into the nba and how the league views the processes of hiring a coach putting together a front office we talk some about the hall of fame inductees steve nash jason kidd grant hill who all were apart of the sons when griff work there i think you're going to joy this one as much as i did too let's get right to it here's griff welcome into david griffin griff are you men doing really well thanks coach have you gotten the heat fixed in your southeastern united states hotel room is that under under yes we are functional we're we are not dante even shinzo warm but we are i just saw something that that was the lowest rated finals and say final game in a while i i guess i could see i guess because it did get away from them but man villanova is you know what jay writes built there is remarkable i mean it really is remarkable that they have become sort of you know right there would do carolina as you know one of the national powers and like it's not going away jay stays you know they're gonna stay at that level it's remarkable to me so i think part of the ratings would probably be attributed to the fact that these these schools don't have high variance freshman that everybody's watching you know they don't have the one and done kids that draws everybody attention they have kids that develop over time and both of those programs are so good from player development standpoint that i think people lose sight sometimes of the fact that once upon a time college kids got significantly better while they weren't.
