Former Amb. Gary Locke discusses China US relations
"U. U. S. S. China China relations relations continue continue to to deteriorate deteriorate with with president president trump trump threatening threatening more more sanctions sanctions and and China China apparently apparently cutting cutting back back further further on on agricultural agricultural imports imports Gary Gary Locke Locke served served as as US US ambassador ambassador to to Beijing Beijing under under president president Obama Obama before before that that he he was was governor governor of of Washington Washington investor investor like like is is now now senior senior adviser adviser to to David David Wright Wright and and Jermaine Jermaine I I asked asked the the pastor pastor if if relations relations between between the the United United States States and and China China are are as as bad bad as as they they looked looked relations relations are are very very very very bad bad right right now now it's it's getting getting worse worse the the latest latest salvo salvo of of walls walls the the only only taking taking away away the the the the special special status status that that Hong Hong Kong Kong has has previously previously that that could could impose impose tariffs tariffs on on all all products products that that are are coming coming out out of of Hong Hong Kong Kong and and they they make make it it harder harder for for residents residents of of Hong Hong Kong Kong you you can can visit visit the the United United States States unfortunately unfortunately trying trying to to get get at at the the the the policies policies of of all all China China in in terms terms of of not not respecting respecting the the one one country country two two systems systems the the autonomy autonomy that that the the Hong Hong Kong Kong has has previously previously enjoyed enjoyed these these types types of of actions actions back back hurt hurt the the people people of of Hong Hong Kong Kong without without really really affecting affecting the the government government of of China China really really punishing punishing the the people people of of Hong Hong Kong Kong who who have have really really been been protesting protesting for for greater greater democracy democracy and and freedom freedom so so this this is is really really going going to to hurt hurt the the people people of of the the very very pro pro democratic democratic people people of of of of Hong Hong Kong Kong and and perhaps perhaps while while sending sending a a message message to to mainland mainland China China may may not not really really hurt hurt China China itself itself well well it it has has to to take take us us back back a a bit bit in in history history back back in in ninety ninety seven seven there there was was an an agreement agreement entered entered into into by by China China as as part part of of Hong Hong Kong Kong coming coming back back to to head head away away from from Great Great Britain Britain is is it it just just clear clear they they violated violated that that agreement agreement and and perhaps perhaps more more important important are are there there any any remedies remedies for for violation violation agreement agreement well well played played ballgame ballgame the the report report you you bite bite out out properly properly to to Hong Hong Kong Kong at at least least to to the the with with twenty twenty more more years years or or so so and and China China of of course course is is upset upset that that Hong Hong Kong Kong has has not not passed passed some some security security laws laws it it is is it's it's supposed supposed to to have have a a baby baby but but years years ago ago and and so so tensions tensions have have been been very very poor poor quality quality and and there's there's a lot a lot of of protesting protesting just just last last year year over over the the coals coals old old toolbox toolbox traditions traditions of of people people charged charged with with crimes crimes one one of of the the that that being being sent sent back back to to other other countries countries including including the the mainland mainland China China courses courses with with the the confidence confidence in in the the rule rule of of law law it it tried tried that that people people could could be be prosecuted prosecuted on on trumped trumped up up charges charges in in the the if if they they are are living living in in Hong Hong Kong Kong maybe maybe because because they're they're all all wasting wasting dissent dissent about about the the policies policies you you disagree disagree openly openly occurred occurred with with the the policies policies of of China China criticizing criticizing the the Chinese Chinese government government that that they they could could then then be be extradited extradited to to the the mainland mainland to to face face prosecution prosecution so so these these are are really really tough tough issues issues and and again again on on China China is is I I think think the the holding holding itself itself in in the the world world if if it it takes takes away away the the autonomy autonomy of of Hong Hong Kong Kong and and certainly certainly will will not not help help in in trying trying to to reunify reunify Taiwan Taiwan because because the the people people of of Taiwan Taiwan will will say say how how can can we we ever ever trust trust the the maple maple at at Thomas Thomas is is that that they they might might have have to to maintain maintain the the democracy democracy that that is is very very very very strong strong on on Taiwan Taiwan we we have have the the largest largest economy economy in in the the world world the the United United States States the the second second largest largest China China we're we're gonna gonna have have to to figure figure out out a a way way to to deal deal with with one one another another one one way way or or the the other other can can you you see see a a path path forward forward to to a a constructive constructive engagement engagement with with China China going going forward forward because because I I have have to to say say China China has has not not had had a great a great track track record record of of complying complying with with its its grievance grievance over over the the years years going going all all the the way way back back to to the the WTO WTO I I think think that that the the world world stage stage and and and and and and all all the the other other countries countries which which share share but but China China does does business business has has operations operations as as investments investments and and and and is is a a trading trading partner partner with with all all of of those those countries countries didn't didn't work work with with the the United United States States in in confronting confronting China China United United States States doing doing it it alone alone actually actually hurts hurts Americans Americans actually actually benefits benefits many many of of our our allies allies well well they they have have the the same same concerns concerns this this terrible terrible trade trade war war between between China China United United States States barely barely makes makes American American products products more more expensive expensive in in China China and and so so the the Chinese Chinese the the buyers buyers will will block block you you know know purchased purchased something something from from Germany Germany Australia Australia or or Canada Canada because because it's it's so so much much cheaper cheaper well well those those countries countries have have some some of of the the circle circle I I have have many many of of the the same same concerns concerns about about the the trading trading policy policy the the economic economic policies policies the the lack lack of of intellectual intellectual protection protection the the lack lack of of rule rule of of law law that that we we have have over over China's China's policies policies but but we we should should be be working working in in concert concert with with all all these these other other countries countries the the day day after after China's China's policies policies to to confront confront China China instead instead of of doing doing it it alone alone because because and and these these other other countries countries just just sit sit back back and and their their their their companies companies will will get get all "Here we go. I'm pulling on a from the. And David Wright has pulled the piece of paper in my hand is that it. Was pulled won't put one back here. On here is David writers Matale tribal council this game survivor is this game of survivor is like it's like Star Trek. Which, by the way, do they all say Star Trek? Which God I don't know. I feel like people are just so tired of my analogies and let us. Oh, god. Yeah. It's kind of like playing survivor is sort of like the Kobe. She Meru test. It's a no Winston area. You can't win survivor? And I'm living proof because I've played it twice. I've never won. So the only way to win is not to play, which is a war games are I, I was gonna say the only way to, to win is like how Kirk beat the Kobe Meru in and I mean that's not unlike Chris Underwood had to figure out a way a back door in. That's kind of amazing that really is sort of what happened, isn't it? Yeah. So that almost works. I think. Okay. Now, you one farance quirk, nobody saying, say, no and saying that he figured out a hack to get back in. Yeah. Okay. All right here taking another one. Lucky with the Star Trek thing. All right. All right. One more. Here's the second one. Did you want to set it up again? I just go for it. What is it? What do what do you have fiber? Survivor. It's kind of like the Toy Story franchise how so well. You know, it's like, like, you know, Woody like he stays the same age. I don't know where I'm going with this. Remember that Andy got older? Oh, my guy survive survivors, like the Toy Story franchise. It's like in Toy Story three, you know, when they're like, headed to their death, and they somehow they cheat it, and that's what survivors about man. That was council when they incinerator. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Crap on now I I with that, when just like did the puzzle here, you want to redeem yourself. Who stopped the old ones in the hat. I keep doing that Star Trek again. I don't wanna play trivial pursuit with you. You're all the questions we asked in the front of the box. Okay. All right. One more one more now three right? Post. It's stuck together. God. Playing survivor is a lot like a barbershop. Unfortunately, I haven't been in a barbershop about twenty years. So I have no idea what that is, actually, like, okay, I got you, you play survivor more than you go to a barbershop. That's that's sad. It's your analogies were such a big part of the game. Or, you know, the pilots and the passengers and I think you really got the ball rolling with the resume talk. Well the fans. Doing sharks doing it for the but I think it had an effect on the season. We I mean to be honest, the analogies all you want to do is say something that's going to get Jeff off your back. Give him an answer that he can use because it is a TV show after all and that doesn't blow up your game. But, you know, maybe eliminates it in some way. So that's, that's all I was trying to do. Just keep Jeff away from me. Because I, It's like I. people think that I like light getting called on by Jeff. It actually panics me, like for me, tribal council is my least favourite part of the entire experience. It's all I can think of is what dumb thing. I'm I going to say now that's gonna completely blow up my game. And, and it all I was trying to do is just, you know, the Jeff Probst monster away. Yeah. There was one point I think it was on the vote wear..

I've practice a lot of things that I'm really good at puzzles. Listen, I don't know. I didn't didn't didn't tonight. I mean, there's a puzzle and David Wright is struggling with it. That means it's a hard puzzle. You'd think I was good at puzzles, but I'm not glasses. And nerdy. Like why why do you assume David Wright is good at math? I don't know if we know puzzles, a why do you why soom David Wright is good at puzzles because David Wright post. On on Facebook. Hey here all the puzzles that I work on at my house. David David Wright is incredible puzzles. Where's your evidence that they'd right is not good at I'm sitting? I don't have anybody. You don't have any that. He's gonna lie. That's good that he's. Yeah. I just because you work on something doesn't make you good at it. I've tried very. Ticky tack here. Just because you do something all the time in practice. It doesn't mean that you're gonna add it. I agree. It's the other thing about these puzzles, though is also just like the mental state when you're when you're doing them, right? You've just had this really exhausting. Well, first of all you haven't eaten a lot in the past week, you you've just done this exhausting challenge. Your adrenaline is Nyathi is up solving something in your in your room is really different from solving it with this with all of the intensity of of survivor challenge. So. And you and you can just plug it. You can just fly because you miss it. Is you panic for a moment? I mean, I've certainly had a lot of anxiety when of puzzles and not been able to see them when when if I were doing it in a more calmer situation. It wouldn't have been a problem at all. So a lot of is just keeping cool under pressure. If I recall, I think this is also the puzzle that I think we've seen this puzzles specifically a couple of times, I think that most famously, and I'm sure the chat will call me. If I'm wrong was the first challenge in survivor blood vs water, where it was the the battle between Laura Laura and Tina versus I think it was. Sierra in Katie. And it was the mom schooling daughters on putting that puzzle together. Yeah. Making up for a big advantage that the new player that the that the loved ones had after Jervis couldn't swim. That you. All right. Stephen, let's take western from the great just east wants to know was Kris van spot, regardless. He seemed to be at the bottom of the four person alliance on both sides..

"But fortunately, that's not what happened for a Rura. How did she get herself into this predicament? Always seen of Aurora is her saying that she's like Joe fan. Yes. Like watching. We know. She did say that she said, hey. You know, I think she said that I'm gay and I'm even into Joe. So that he was so charming that she that he wants that. He was able to start the fire. He convinced Aurora and she never turned back. Yeah. There you go. So. It'll be interesting seaman who of these returnees. Do we think is going to be the first person out now that we are going to head into this soap? I mean, it really has been all eyes on went or threat. Like if it's. But see now Kelly when she's been swap screwed in the past. So this is going to be precarious for her. But David Wright was this is not his time to shine in the game either. I mean, this is when he almost got voted out in survivor millennials versus gen-x, I think it was between him and CC of who they were gonna vote out after the swap in that season because you know, you're in a six person tr or five-person tribe now we're to hide David David Wright, he's got a target on his back. He's somebody who's not going to be helping you if it's particularly physical challenge in the water. So Joe, I think is going to be safe here through the merge Joe's, it'll Joe is probably safe. And the Joe try will probably not actually ever go to council. Enjoy the record for most time or season. But but I would say I mean, I just think David is too. Good. Dave is not going home at the swap. Okay. Lie. Lie. Hope Hope hope. I hope you're right about right? Stephen anything else. You wanna touch on before we get to the questions? I'm trying to anything else that the comet tribe that was fun. We talked about Aubrey we talked about that little conversation. Oh, yeah. The only other thing to say Ron's advantages now expired it was the right move for him not to steal the reward. Still the chickens. I think. Would made a lot of people mad also like one of the people that are on the tribe that they just wonder award. Like, hey, like, this guy is a real piece of work that he stole our chickens. Then you have the people on his own tribe is like boy, Ron is our friend, and he didn't tell us about this. So yeah, I think that unless it was going to be something to say, but I'm surprised that they showed it in the episode that he even ended up getting the advantage of it wasn't gonna play. I don't know. It's a little fun. It's a little like fun new reaction to finding it. Yeah. I agree with you right choice, especially because there's always you want to hold it. Just in case, you lose immunity loss of challenge. The chance all of the second challenge. So they almost they were they were the blue the head. All right. Stephen, let's take some questions from the listeners here as we're live here after episode number three of the edges of extinction. A man fouls who's most likely to swap screwed who's a good position?.

"Because I don't think I saw that. I tire regional season showing. Can you make a prediction for David Wright? I don't for the record. I was completely right about. My prediction, Debbie. Would you predict what it like a tenth place? I said that she would go out in the same school. And she literally did. Okay. How do you feel about David Wright? I think he'll be gone early much. I think that he'll be able to evade them long enough better to point he'll be threatening. Be interesting to see how he's going to be able to manage the threat level this second time, Shannon. Thank you so much that you were so well prepared that I really appreciate you going through and listening to the podcast as well. The really a great work here. Something's really funny in hindsight. Like knowing he was going out to play, you know, literally three weeks after which will into him for the gold styling. You're like what do you have going on early going on like you lie? Stop. Yeah. He came in and did the note late in the season in survivor, go silent. I believe it was also the very night that they had his idol was one of the advantages the Dominic found. Yeah. So as I'm saying Hupa threatening, but I have to say like Luca five common. So he was playing kind of like Steven Steven first episode on his returning season. Hopefully, it doesn't go that way. And this he's like doing live. No at all in front of all the fans like what incredible confidence I'm just so proud of David Wright. Of course, you can follow the great, Shannon gates on social media at Shannon gates, Shannon. Anything else that you have going on these days mush like David ripe said to you and his point cost. We went out on the island. I don't really know. But I'm actually not going out onto my about. I just don't have much going on what's coming up on the international survivor front. This is the downtime well survive. A New Zealand was rested stunned the twenty nineteen please hashtags vibe ends at twenty twenty saves of bed. Africa's coming back there still may now so right around may and for anyone who hasn't checked out the seasons. Let me know slide at my DM's, I will help you out. So good and live is coming back with the exactly same contended. So very creative. He down on. Oh, maybe survivor. Thirty nine will be the extinction to they'll follow these Austrailia survivor model while you put that onto the. But I will say also, Mike blue Liana bars. And I recently did kind of like survive a twenty eighteen year view. So we did a bit of a deep dive on Davis live ghost island. So I thought new-zealand and Austrailia rankled the players and went three hours. It was a lot of names. And yet if you have washed seasons one to watch them, you can listen to that costs ranked all of the players that played a survivor season in two thousand eighteen will we did like out Hawkins. But then we ended up talking about like the play of more probably than we talked about. Who is best characters? I feel like I'm not advertising this really. Well, it really was a lot of fun. We rank the seasons. We talked about the best moments did across each five season. So yeah, it was a lot..

"Around the same spot that he was on the first day of millennials versus genetics or do you think that he emerges as this David Wright who seems to figure things out? I think that he could not go back to being that day. One David Ryan, I hope so because you know, he's proven himself now that he can do it. I do think that he fed in the you that he was like his work into improvement in therapy off after the even as well. So I think that you'll have some of the confidence. I don't think you've ever going to be like an extremely competent person as said, I think he's a very confident player. I don't think you can have that executive because even now if he's taken out early he can be like, I was accused threat rather than being like, why was a disaster. And I think that that you know, knowing that will give him some confidence with some interesting stuff in his some of his interviews. Oughta the show one of the things I thought was really funny. It was that he said that survive has never jumped the shock in the game changes on put cough any never will. So this. Yeah. He's like David Ryan you so complimentary about every single post he talks about whether from his season in the deep dives when all the other put costs. He's like, yeah. I'm really loving game changes really lemming go silent. It's like what is your actual? Opinions. Cannot be true. And another thing I thought was really funny was that you compared him so much to Dr Mike like a lot when I talked to him during. So he's like really a lotta myself in Dr Mike and this this ongoing comparative, David rights to bite. I just do not see it. I have to say Dorsey. Yeah. I don't know if they have too many similarities and not sure exactly what I was going for at that point time. How are you expecting David to do in this season? But now based at you've gone back in really looked at everything he's done before expecting big things from him the second time around I feel better about it. Now that I've re washy stuff and Ray listen to his content on our HP. I think he can make the most I think that he's gonna surprise people because he's a private the whole Minos best genetics. I think I I remember being shocked. He made it through the first episode. But I think I forgot how shocking it wasn't. He continued on through the post swap through the merge as well. So now that I'm like underestimating him, I feel good about it. Because I think he's maybe one of the most players Ebba who has completely exceeded those expectations in his original season. I did write out like his strengths weaknesses, and I had obviously a much longer list with strength things he can use. So he has to play the loyalty cod. He played to idols allies nine from self. He pulled a rock for allies. He's main ally in other allies made it to the final threatening stuck with his quote. Group. So if I was David Wright like I'd be reminding people of that rather than like the fake idol and going to look at James numbers during the challenge in that he was really a very loyal guy..

"And now he's going to be the first otherwise, I've never really identified. I guess as a massive millennial even though I am one. So I wasn't super rooting for the millennials. But yeah, it was all about David, and I will say his pre-game bio he did home self similar to cooperate, obviously. But. Also merged with one of his engine extinction players, can you guess who that was? I am gonna guess Aubrey. Yeah. You guessed that a few weeks of Ray. But the onset was actually Joey amazing. Oh, yeah. Wow. He said he was like Joey amazing puzzle abilities, which really pan out, but also not his hair and his way with the lady. And it's like what else is there is Joey amazing. The one thing that he enjoy maisy. What have in common is that they both had the uncanny ability to create a fake idol that they both had that arts and crafts background. Yeah. I also realized that connection, but I feel like Joey amazing because he created the fake idol in its first season. Like, it's not hugely remembered, whereas David's fake idol was used on ghost island like a couple of weeks before these players only now. So it's definitely going to be top of mind. Okay. So let's see if there's any other similarities between David Wright, and Joey amazing, Debbie, Debbie. How is David Wright? Presented to the audience in his initial. Appearance in survivor millennials versus jenex well later in the season. I think Jefferson as a fearful new Roddick on wall, they use a lot of really mean descriptive about him. I think that he's definitely like the main character of the fifth episode either many things like he covered the via when they hoping them, boo. And he has the face when they could stick insect on him and cries angels of death, and like he's just basically should into be. I guess just an audible and without all the strategy that we're going to see come from him and without the transformation that's going to happen. It's not a really good. Look I have to say. But obviously watching it knowing what we do. We know that it's like the side of something, really brilliant. It seems impossible to me that he gets through the first episode at all I think I've worked out why that makes me feel really confident about him going into study. Because before I went back in washes stuff. I'm like, I don't see how he'll survive such an obvious threat. If anything he has his life, really unfortunate Giradi of being like, a potential liability and being Hugh. Threat which was like the worst possible combination. But he does make it through the first episode by getting one from he's not even secondary slivered plan if it's racial immensity. So in the end, I actually think that if you look deep his episode in wave is actually quite impressive. This should be a good thing for David Wright. Because no matter what happens to him in the first episode. It would be almost impossible for him to have a worse. I three days in the edge of extinction. It's so that like one of the things they also does that he accuses Poland can of having an idol, and then the debate should like ambush them, then he really obviously looks with either. But he doesn't find it. What is he doing? I was feeling how I felt as I watched him like, please I've decided to stand you can a little bit. But I think that the key of his first episode would things for me that that stood out. Chris says the David is paranoid..

I'm very excited to talk about another one of the survivor thirty eight returnees, and it is a my pleasure to bring in to us all the way from Australia. The host of so many of our international survivor wrap-ups here is the great, Shannon gates, Shannon. How are you and great, rob? And I just want to put it out yet beginning of the podcast. I trust you. I trust you. Thank you. Thank you, very excited to talk with you today. Shannon about Mr David Wright is David Wright, considered to be a huge deal in Australia. And I guess it's huge deal with any modern survive play. I like personally for me. I love David riot. Definitely one of my absolute favorite contestants. I'm excited because two years ago, we did a similar podcast about Debbie and game changes. Should be honest. I wasn't really Debbie super found just really wanted to get on the cost. But I actually really. I do love David Wright. So good. Okay. And such similar players to Debbie winner. David, right. Yeah. I know I found so many so many some of the things I have. Yeah. God to realize that I hope that he does better than she did who doesn't yell at like, she did Brad Culpepper? When I was watching that often, I kind of putting my whole survivor strategic and sits behind a game changes. I was like, oh, this is the end of my podcast in Korea. But I. Yeah. I looked to Debbie. I have complete faith in David as well. And whatever happens like, I major leave David riot. He had a similar game Oviously to you in the Amazon. And then like, we know what happened to you on the second time. So what happens with David? I'm still gonna love him. Talking about the story. So far on David Wright, everything we know about David right up until this point. And then eventually we'll get to see what he's thinking going into survivor thirty eight, but we're gonna take a look back at his a one time out. He's the only one time player that's coming back here in the edge of extinction. Do you think that that will hurt him at all that he's only played one time? He's only on his second time out there. The other attorneys are on their third. I didn't think so people remember that Kelly went with played the fifth time, Joey amazing Etta made it all ryobi has thought of survivor experience onto her about. But I mean the game he played was pretty comprehensive. So I think he's got a lot out with Isla. Okay. So let's go back to survivor millennials verses gen-x picture it twenty sixteen and we were getting ready for the angel Dattel of millennials versus. Gen-x, shannon. We're you going into this rooting for the millennials to dunk on the gen Xers. Well, for me, the main Perth, and I was reading for was David. And to me before even there was no I one out before any of the bios or the prefixing costs. I love David from the Koran finale when we saw him in the preview and the way that he just seemed so anguished some like anguish on his face. And I just thought he really cares about this game. So I was completely on board the David train from four minute one. And that's why when he was having this disastrous for episode that will talk about this feels like, obviously, I've dedicated like the last few months to completely being behind David..

"He looks, you've got to look them up the bull bull tweet out a picture from caves radio today. As you're listening, pin man was talking about David Wright, and he was like, yeah, you know, the captain grew up while he said he said it would be the worst thing. He'd rather be dead than not there, and he kind of gives enough seriously serious. We'll guess what men you might be dead soon because you're. Old as shit and grew up with them to say that he grew up with him. I'm going to try to pin man's Nick GM PA tro GM PA tro this guy has got to be honor. No fifty. Oh, fifty easy. If five problem. Yeah, looks looks sixty. I'm taking five years off from Mets fan them. Yeah. Oh, yeah. That's that's a good. That's a great point guy be twenty-seven digger up onto right. So he says, I grew up on David, right? I mean David Wright. He's starting to four. So he's been around for like fourteen he's thirty thirty five years. Right? So so I would say to grow up on David, right? I didn't. I don't even know if I grope Ida grove on David. Wright growing up means like your childhood athletes. Well, I think. Pin man was probably like forty five to fifty David rights career. You didn't grow up on shit pin, man. You grew up immigrant with Gerald. Strawberry went pigmy. I grew up like the Mets Lord, even in existence yet is the fifties, bro? You grew up on the on the eighty six Mets pal even grow up on David, right, but it it begs the question we talked about these kinds of things before. Like Jim Murray figured out that that age, I think it was like twenty seven re stopped caring and twenty. Six. And we've always learned that like in music when you listen to in eighth grade is like, what's going to stick with you the most sort. There are these ages that we've talked about in case you radio before where like defines your phantom or your preferences or whatever your memories, what is your I grew up on period of time. I think it's we kinda talked about beforehand and what was the the formula? Well, I think to say, you grew up on means you're a child when when you were watching them, and I think that the unofficial eighteen is when you're an adult. But to me, I think you stop being child when you fuck if you've had sex before eighteen. Right. So you have you have a little? Yeah. You were a baby you were. You were a little boy for a long time. I think that when you once you're like, I'm sticking my dick inside someone else which also probably. Insides with some drinking and some partying. I don't think you're a kid anymore. I think you're like, I grew up on basically stops once you've had sex. I think it's a little different. I think it's because I did put this is one of those tweets. I, I want I looked at for a long time before sending because I didn't know if it was going to be received poorly like, no, you grew up on boulevard, so I thought about it a lot before I even hit send by the way I shout out to just the fact..

"I've ever heard every at bat every pitch it would boo. And then like a pitch would go by and we would like stop. And then as the pitcher was ready to deliver where you would start the moves again, all every four at bats in a row. It's under like chase, Elliott. Jason broke a guys leg and we, we're like our rival for years on end. This guy I hadn't even knows names and start the night. And so that just shows we hate hard. We don't love hard. We learn how nice things. We don't know what it's like to love somebody, but we. Love to Jose race. Even Rosie raise. It was like it was like Jose race night. It was unbelievable. David Wright requested to have him play. Start start at short to like, you know, whatever good old days, fine. David, I guess what he wants, but we were cheering and doing the Jose Jose Jose chant like way louder and way more than anything for David Wright. That's so sad. I was crazy is the hashtag was one of the hashtags was thank you David. So it was very clearly. Thank you David, and we just didn't do that until he was gone. I get. I'm not. I'm not a chance starter so, but I was sitting there. I was like, this should be the moment where the whole stadium's going. Thank you David, but I'm not gonna. I'm not gonna hear them. Like, I'll I'll join in, but I'm going to start it. And then we did it after the curtain call and he was gone and it was like a smattering. It was kinda like off, you know, in one stadiums, a little behind the other side of the stadium of look, just terrible. The I kind of get that though the fact that it was very clearly supposed to be a thing because I think that's just human nature where. That's why I've never tried to start hashtags because I think that immediately turns people off to the idea. I think people want to say, fuck it already. Fuck you. Tell me what to do whether or not it's a conscious decision. I think immediately people see that and I'm like, fucking. I'm not doing. We'll tell me what the. I, I always put her back says, if the boys that was not a hashtag, that was just a story, then people turn into Ashley, right? And yeah, eventually became one, but it didn't start as one and I think thank you. Dave is the same thing. Maybe all week you could put up videos, be like, thank you, David. Thank you, David. Thank you. David will like kind of pictures of him. The iconic moments highlights. Thank you, David. Thank you. Thank you, David. And eventually people would get it. But if you start it right away with that hashtag and you could drive a triangular thing, I do the same thing, but it doesn't. Boston sports are pretty good with it. I they, they don't really do it where it's like, let's get loud. Yes, sue Jumbotron I sit down there humanity, but like if if it's not Ganic I don't want to be a part of it. People were standing up for Jose race at bats to sitting down with so weird. The whole thing sucks. That makes perfect sense. It was like this, of course, is how he went out anti-climactic disappointing. I mean, we didn't support him that's eight rights career right there in a nutshell. So was actually a very fitting night, but it really. Truly was the worst like I and then the worst, the worst part was he was giving a speech after the game, right? So people wanted to stay for the speech. And I, you know, I'm sitting there with Clem and when I in clemes buddy drove us and he had like a good parking pass and the players, lots it was like in and out, really very happy to have this ride. But it was fireworks night and David. Wright had speech in this guy is kids with them and he wanted to stay..

"Was the most boring excruciating fan experience I've ever had in my life that bad it was that bad. I mean, it was a zero zero, thirteen inning game against the mar- I didn't realize it was zero zero. Innings zero. Goose eggs, bro. Nobody scored for thirteen in. David writes retirement and now I mean, David Wright is is a corpse. I love him, but he's a to say, he's like a shell of its former self as a gross understatement, spinal stenosis, fucked that guy over in the worst possible way. The Mets fucked them over in the worst possible way. So it's not like he was going to get that vitamin water money the case still got it hundred and eighty five mil from playing like two to like another hundred from vitamin water and his wife is us. The whole game. She's a real writer down there. She was rocking that baby behind home plate like get the fuck out of here. So it's not like he was going to step in and you know, fucking Mark Maguire this shit and blast ball. So the moon, I was hoping I was like, just don't embarrass yourself first at bat. First of all, it was the first inning. They bunted a man over to third to get him in in like an RBI situation like. Let's get this should done. Let's get this guy to an RBI for the season. So I, I bet he like milk so walk, which was like good baseball. Like he worked account the pitchers. Hi, good. I, he walks like David. Nobody wants to see that like Tomahawk that sheet if you have to swing the bat, but what I refined second at bat, he pops up into foul territory behind first base. That is the most anti-climax is. And you can think of a baseball that was his last at bat? Yes. So they were. They. Bats, they took him out from the field to do with the obey Shen. And then he went and did TV and radio, which is fine. But also there was games Sundays. You say you could've done it the next day, especially after your your last at bat was so shitty. It'd be like Guinea one more. Yeah, you know, they stuck to their plan probably. 'cause David Wright was like, if I swing again, my my spine zone explode, you play had two at bats in them and that was it. But I mean a pop up behind first base in foul territory, and the fans were so mad at Peter O'Brien for catching that ball. Love name right though. Per gotta, get pissed that they were. I mean, you gotta you gotta just let that bounce off the, he'll love or just Mufid and then like everyone knows is going on. You can even flash a smile and you give this guy another shot and then you groove one over the plate like eighty two miles an hour. Come on. This is all fogging goes a Cal Ripken all sorts seriously the Derrick jeeter all star game to come on and. Actually, I'll say this bets fans. We did a whole Rendez job sending David, right? Yes, you absolutely. It was the most uninspiring like we were clapping it up like it was a regular game. His curtain call was like a fake curtain call was wasn't like a one more time. Bring him back out. He's like, oh, now I have to go back up and wave. The cap I was. I was watching the, I wasn't watching live, but I saw tweeted out from s and wire, whoever as I was on my couch and I was stunned it was it was not a necessary quiet. I was I was I was watching it almost. It was actually one of the more nerve wracking movies I've watched in a while because I could see the bottom bar as time was going. Hi, I I saw saw you. you can end. Yeah, there twenty seconds left in the crowd is cheering. Yeah, you got to get him out for one more time, right? And they have. They have to pick it up, get going start yelling again, well, but they never did. And he came out anyway, but it was not curtain goal. Here's the thing that's Mets fans like the rest of the night. You wanna talk about like passionate fans. We booed though. Fuck outta Peter O'Brien, like the most deafening booze..

"But I can't. Go. It's unnatural you belong to me. How long? Checkup is the office meds tonight. I don't know. Hey, listen. Can we get serious for a second? Dammit. What now? Here's the thing about David Wright. Here's the thing about David Wright. Don't give me this to listen. Nice career. All right. Nice career one of the better players produced in the Mets system. Okay. Multi time all-star one of the most in some quarters lovable Mets. Although I think I've made this point before to you. I for some reason. And I think I know what the reason is I have never really gravitated to David Wright during his years with the Mets I've appreciated him. He's come up with some big hits. He's played very well. He's represented the organization and classy way, I don't deny him any of those things k with me up to this point in time. But there's something about David Wright that just kept me from embracing him and loving them up and throwing my arms around them. And and really feeling the same kind of emotion that. He was feeling earlier today. When he was announcing that he wasn't gonna play baseball. The except for one more game this year. And the thing is with David right? I think it's just I I he was just too much of a candy ass for me is the way I did the best way. I can put it, you know. Now, you say, well, what do you mean? Let me give you an example. I put you say to me, Dino, who did you enjoy watching war when I played for the match. Did you enjoy on one hand watching David Wright play more for the Mets? Or did you enjoy watching Wally Backman play more for the Mets? Well to me. It's it's a no brainer. I enjoyed watching Wally Backman play more for the Mets why 'cause Wally Backman, eight dirt. And just was a gritty grimy hard ass player. Who just you know, I relate to I relate to those kinds of guys. Now, David Wright had much more talented than Wally Backman. Then I'll give you that. I mean, that's a no brainer. In a while. He was an overachiever while he did was he could with the talent that the good Lord in heaven above gave him. But I just I get David Wright was just too much of a candy ass for me. I that that's the best way. I could I could put it. I remember I was on sports extra with Duke Castiglione going back several years ago on channel five in New York. And I. Referred to David Wright is a candy ass and Duke in the commercial break said, well, you can't say candy ass on the air. And I said, well, why not and he said you just can't say candy on the air. And I said candy ass. Candy ask Eddie ass. Kennedy-esque Eddie ass and. But that's the best way. I can put it with David Wright aid. Just to me was was too much of you know, I don't know. I just good guy. Great guy kinda guide like my my daughter to marry someday. Okay. Ain't no doubt about it. But you know, I don't know. I just something about they have it right now this this this contention that he was the greatest position player in Mets history. Give me a break. Give me a break. Okay. Because I am a couple right off the top that we're better than the first of all Darrell strawberry was the greatest position player that was that ever played for the Mets. Okay, darryl. Strawberry was the greatest position player that ever played for the Mets Heathrow nana's was better than David Wright. Okay. Keith us now even play as long as they have a right did neither the strawberry. But if you're going to tell me that David Wright was a better player than Darrell. Strawberry. David Wright was a better player than than Keith. Rhonda's on and I'm gonna tell you you're you're a stupid is the guy in Westchester county who sends me the Email a couple of hours ago asking me to get all angry and and hot and heavy about the Yankees and stops. Saying they're having a great season. So don't tell me David Wright was the greatest position player in Mets history. Nice player. Good player. Sometimes a great player. And I know he's the captain the captain. I don't know. I just you know, when I look at David Wright is the captain of the Mets I wanna compare and contrast it to maybe thinking about their jeeter in his years as captain of the Yankees. It's it's different. You know? And I I never bought into the whole narrative of what you know. David is the Mets Derek jeeter. No, he's not. No, he wasn't. No he ever wasn't going to be. So tell me that nice player and stop with this hall of fame stuff to people. What do you think he qualifies for the him? Hell, no. He doesn't qualify for the hall of fame. Now, all the fame come on. If they were right gets into the hall of fame that we gotta consider about three hundred other guys Warren hall of fame who should be in the hall fan who were just as good if not better than David Wright. Okay. Can I can I can I acknowledge something here? I'm glad that the final chapter the curtains closing on the David Wright era. Can we get on now with with other more important business? My goodness sat here in the studio behind this are twenty microphone the only microphone that I'll do a show on last night. And I gave you my my plan for the match next season as I assumed the chair on an interim basis, of course, as the Mets new general manager and chief ahead of baseball operations. And I told you what I would do to retool the steam going into the twenty one thousand nine season. That's what I'm more interested in now David is going to have his and by the way, did you see the tickets for the game? That's his final game that he's gonna play astronomical the price of tickets that are going up to see David, right? This isn't Lou Garrick for crying out loud. He's not saying goodbye. Okay. In a way that Lou Garrick did stop with all this stuff. David Wright, David Wright, David Wright, nice sky class act. I ain't gonna argue with any of that not my kind of player though, I'm sorry. Just not my kind of player. Mike third baseman, my kind of player no-one Renato. That's my kind of player no-one Erin auto. That's my kind of player. Nice guy. And I'm sure that everybody. And then of course, I don't listen to any other radio shows sports radio shows that is and I'm sure across New York all day and into the night. And maybe even now on by the way, there's two other local shows going on on WFAN and ESPN Radio New York. We'll check them out. But I'm sure that all day on New York radio they were blowing smoke all day about the how great David Wright is. And and you know, all time great should go to the hall of fame greatest player in Mets history position. Gimme a break. Stop it. Stop it. I was devastated when strawberry left the Mets inside a free agent deal with the dodgers devastated. Devastated. I was heartbroken as I watched a broken down key Fernandez limp along in his final days in a match uniform. I cried when Gary Carter stepped up to the plate for his final time at big shot in his last appearance and hit a double. And then came off the field for a pinch runner. Okay. David Wright has not affected me in those ways. Not even close not even close. I like watching Mookie Wilson better than I like watching David Wright for crying out loud. Okay. I like I like watching Lenny play more than David Wright. I like a lot of guys better than David Wright in bed and best position player in Mexico. Please save that save that one of the best. I'll give you that the best not even close. He's not as good a strawberry. He wasn't as good as strawberry. He wasn't as good as Hernandez. So Dino doesn't want to hear it. What Dino doesn't wanna hear it? Dino won't hear that. He won't hear that Nike stock has closed at an all time high days after the Cowan capper Nick decision making him the face of. It's just do it thirtieth anniversary ad campaign. Sports apparels stock closed at an all time high today yesterday actually at eighty three dollars and forty seven cents. According to a report from Bloomberg. Well, that's good Nike. Of course, you know, they that a noticeable dip in its stock price. But it's come back. It's at an all time high. Now that doesn't mean anything to me because the perception of that company is has been changed. And I think that there's millions of people across this country, including the guy. Walking into this industry. Standard Ari twenty microphone who will never buy another Nike product as long as I live for me. My kids my mother my relatives. My friends, my enemies, I won't be buying a Nike product. No Nike socks. No Nike shirts. No, Nike jackets. No Nike hat. Snow Nike pants Nike football helmets. Have. I'm going to buy a football helmet. I'll buy some other football helmet. It's not gonna be a Nike football helmet. I use football. How much when I drive. I don't I don't know if I've ever told you that when I drive I put on a football helmet. Well, why not? Most people who die in car, accidents Nye is the result of blunt force trauma to the head. In fact, I think that because so many people across this country die in car accidents every single day how many people died in car accidents across this country today thousands. How many of them would have been alive today if they'd been worn wearing a football helmet like me when I drive. Of course. I don't wear a football helmet when I drive, but I'm just trying to be politically, correct. They're on track to over correct? Like the NFL does. I mean with all these people dying across the country and car accidents with blunt force trauma to the head. How many people's lives would be saved? We should make it mandatory that there should you should have to wear a helmet when you drive in an automobile. Or if you're the passenger in an automobile. Okay, no drinking coffee either because that can be distracting is distracting drinking coffee holding coffee in your hand reaching for a coffee is distracting when you're talking on your damn cellphone gate. No cell phones. No coffee and helmets on. Everybody's go ahead. When I drive in cars, or when they drive around in cars. That's what I say. Joke. Baby twelve forty two final time out our number one..

"A grand slam to help lead the way offensively for the. Mets tonight and we hit the phones right now Gino in, Brooklyn Gino you wanna talk to wacky That's right what's going. On brother how are we. Doing good man listen it's it's good the teams started to play a little bit. Better it would be great to see them finish the season well I mean I think it's very important, I don't see any reason, they finished the season playing five hundred or even, maybe a tiny bit better baseball one thing I don't want. To, see happen is the pitfall of Kevin playing. Very well. Down the stretch like you. Did last year and now all of a, sudden the off season they're going to try to feed us this Kevin Porky thing. Again you get where I'm coming from with this I do. I think he's a backup Yeah I mean he's a, backup I think that that much is clear and he's getting. The, opportunity to play every day now because you. Know nobody. Jumped on Devon mez Rocco But I I agree they go, out and add a. Catcher this off season they've they've tried, as, long as, possible take a look, at. D'arno employee wacky and you. Know even though is the grand slam tonight. The. Time has, come and I. Think we know is is uh serviceable catcher but he's a backup agree p p. one more question we got, a US pumped up as me She's a Field is two. Hundred baby. I'm hopeful it'll be great. To see Optimistic about it No he's. Gonna he'll be he'll play at least a couple of. Games this season I hope I hope every day that he survived one of these days in Florida. And some action I think it's it's a win basically that just go out there and not. Have. A setback yeah last year is able to play some games and then needed multiple surgeries afterwards is, previous, caller mentioned yeah the arm does not look good. For David Wright that's going to be an issue and he doesn't have the experience at first base and one of the issues for right is Ben as to why he doesn't have that experience is dealing. With spinal stenosis he. Can't get wraps he. Can't practice anything think about. Learning a position it's. All, about wraps well when your spinal column, narrows and weekends you can't take a bunch of ground balls and. Lauren do position it's just this limitations on what you are able To do and learning a new position is. Essentially an impossibility for David Wright at this point All he could do is? Play third base and does he have a major, league caliber, arm over there at third base I think you're. Going to see, that he, doesn't but I I haven't seen him in game action thus far I heard. About you, know one throw that he made the. Just barely beat the, runner at first base but yeah that's. Going to be a big concern but and to me it's he wants to extend his career he wants to. Have the, opportunity to get back and. He talks about being a productive player in the Mets, which again you hate counting anybody out I think it's hard to. Imagine him being truly productive but I'd I'd love to see. Him playing some games since September I'd love to see him have closure on his baseball career I think anybody. Deserves to have Maybe not your prime but some of. Your just, after prime years taken away from you buy something like spinal stenosis, in the surgeries that he has had in the work that he's put. In in order to play, during twenty fifteen from August to the end of the World Series and to try to you know gut it through in two thousand sixteen to put in. The work that he did and then all of a sudden it's gone and? You know he knew as soon as twenty fourteen, that there, was a possibility it going to end relatively quickly. But you want, to have, that kind of closure you want to go out on your own terms everyone. Dreams of, that it doesn't happen for a lot. Of athletes as we, know but you root for that for. David Wright that he could at least have some closure in his baseball career and Phil they did everything he. Possibly could, to be a productive baseball. Player and I know and putting them in the past, tense a bit here but I think for anybody you got to. See it to believe it that you know he's going to. Be able to come back and Not only that but be a productive player and be able to extend his career beyond in this season I think that's certainly asking a lot especially when we talk about some of the limitations, that he, has the work that he could put in you'll learning a new position or trying. To partake in a different kind of role. On the team, all those things are very difficult for him to do considering his condition but it's bigger David let's, hear how it went today right went over three. With a watt playing seven innings at third base, today's we played five. Innings on was it Sunday and Monday then he had Tuesday. Off and today was able to play seven innings at third and right was asked how it went you're doing. Good seven, innings get a chance to play with j. he got all the, hits the damage I think that's because I was sitting in front of. Him so I'll take a, little bit of credit I saw some pictures another pretty good quality arm out there so saw some breaking boss Have some fast bus on lefty for. The first time so you know and all good day did. He give you any ribbon We.

"Why not we tie davies number put him up there number five why not have you this no i don't care about that you know i don't put much in personal goal i love david wright thank you twice i think he does justice to the number you know and i hope he comes back and plays again i know he's got some severe problems and i hear he's trying to make another comeback for baseball we wish he was back is that the championship bring away can i just touch the i'll let you hold it if you if you promised come on thing we don't see many of these going to see that there's only so there's only two those things this is a main mats one hundred and what was the biggest thrill winning championships with the orioles is a player a winning ad is the manager with the mets much more satisfying winning that as a manager of the mets because more guys you could be happy for more guys and also you coaching staff and it's such a great city you know i mean fans round standing i mean you know i mean i learned a lot from the fans they used to when they didn't like my decisions they would boom and so i would always me every time i took out dwight gooden and so i told him you know you wait until the guy gets in here and we're walking into gather and then we get cheers of course so i figured him out could you imagine managing today and having to take a guy out at ninety five pitches guy it would be hard for me especially if he was dealing i always would read a pitcher of his fastball started coming up or if it's breakup breaking balls start hanging i knew he was done it didn't matter the pitch count i just read the pitcher and you.

"And he has been producing but he has done alaska franchise when david wright we'll coming up a crazy buzz but let me finish i'm almost i don i appreciate it please i feel that he's still we started off slow this year not the same jose reyes that one about entitled people keep forgive forget in this is this is this guy's older you know and he needs to come off the bench you can't be a starter all the title he if you can leave them on the bench i think he'd be a lot more effective instead of giving them spots all the time he's up he's older now he's don't wanna finish the team and he has a very good metrics theory was thinking guys bashing them and just 'cause they 'cause you left you left arrived on and they want and then and then he leaves the match that match win i mean we have one nothing but they were better without him i don't believe in that i'm actually my whole life i know that one guy he's not gonna make a franchise one of those i can help don't get me wrong but you gave your pro race speech now let me try and finding middle ground between you and the jose reyes hater we had on earlier most of what you said was accurate he doesn't start all an off he's got he's got fifty five abc's so you're saying he's got to be a bench player oh he is a bench player he only starts once every week once every seven game somewhere thereabouts so he's not a starting player so you can't use that as a defense to metro asking him to do too much he's only had fifty five at bats so that's not a ton so i don't see that as a jose reyes defense and the other problem is as much as i'm a fan of history and yes i'd like to remember back to golden days when things were good and everything was working twitter and you do now david wright was great.

"Yes i am not a doctor but sounds plausible i've always felt that they are but if i'm wrong and you'd always felt that i was doctor i i have always felt that affected back you to my medical records diagnosis but just keep sending them it's weird i stop but yeah he's going on the ten day with the right latte strain and again i've known them to be interchangeable and they terrify me for players no i one i really remember zeroing in on was doug fister when he was on the tigers and he just couldn't get over it and it kinda robbed him of a full season he was on and off he wasn't really successful when he was pitching i remember it with david wright was it was sort of the beginning of his injury phase brutal yeah there was it was there was one year where he started out i was like what is what is it oblique and now i have one thing they have any oblique injuries either because the diagnosis got better or whatever they weren't as popular as they are now and now they seem to be really popular and they can nag and really kind of cut up a whole season so let's hope that's not the case with carlos martinez he's pitching really well and this is a guy that have always liked and felt that he could kind of take that next level and and we're seeing a little bit of it this year at least in the results he does have an nl best one sixty two era due in large part to the fact that he's allowed one homer in fifty innings strikeouts are actually down in this walks her up so he hasn't necessarily made changes to go along with it in his base skills but he's allowing fewer heads keeping the ball in the yard so congress has pitched well how concerned are you about this last strain i watched a fair amount of that last game and it was it was his wildest of the year.
