Jumping Into Markdown

"Many Stephen Hackett, and I, have joined is always of my co-host and friend Mr David sparkes. Hello. Steven. How are you? Today? I'm good. How are you? I am ready to talk about markdown. We're touching the third rail here. The podcasting Faux Pas, we're going to talk about a little bit about coating on an audio podcast. I, think mark down the big exception. As we get into this. The whole idea is that it's really simple and so I think we can talk to this syntax and be just fine. Yeah Yeah. Well, this is a good episode we're going deep on markdown today Marc out something that a lot of people are aware of, but not as many people know how to do and it is really easy get through this podcast today. Down pro. I think so too before we get into all of that just real quick it is. We are in August. Now, I don't know how that happened. But we we will be working on and planning episodes around Iowa's fourteen. Macara's Big Sur. Couple of people had had asked about those I. Think we'll do what we did last year and and have A. Episode per release win. That is nobody knows and so we we're kind of keeping an eye on apple said in their results at the phone will be later this year by a couple of weeks does that mean? In Big Sur. Later, by couple weeks to WHO knows nobody knows. So this is going to be a fun adventure all in together this year. And related questions I've had from people are what about shortcuts and the photos field guide the most of those areas got up with this new operating system I. Think I'm going to have an a free update shortcuts when they launch Iowa's where team, but the question is nobody knows when they'll launch it. So if they launch it next week, I will not have an update ready, but there will be an update eventually or hopefully on launch day for shortcuts followed by a free update photos both of those will be free last year. I had to charge for shortcuts because apple rewrote shortcuts I to do the whole thing from scratch fortunately, that's not the case this year. So I'll have some so free updates. If you've already about those field guides also today we are going to in more power users. We're GONNA talk some tech stuff stephen is getting ready to prep for the annual the podcast on and right there's a bunch of technology involved with that. So we're looking forward to talking about that more power users today. So technology and sobbing both. Both. Right now. I really this is a stranger I have a lot of questions. boy Yeah. So let's get into. It's going to mark down. Just. A touch of background markdown was created by John Gruber the writer of daring fireball. We spoke about this episode four, hundred, sixty, six AMAC power users where he was a guest talk about the history of it. He's given other interviews about the history of markdown. and. It's really cool I. Mean it is sort of the definition of writing a project to scratch an edge. You have. He wanted a tool for riding on the web that wasn't. Junkie and Messi like html is and markdown came out of that desire I. think that's pretty cool. Yeah I mean John had a blog. He was one of the first that I was aware of the did the linked posts you know where he would link something and make a few comments about it, but it also have more extensive posts. and. He wanted simple method right in. So he did He created his own tool, and who would a guest that it became such a big thing. It's everywhere and we're GonNa get to that later in the episode of just how many places you can use markdown and it shows up in some pretty surprising projects and websites across the Internet. And the idea of it really though at its at its foundational level is just something you can write with any plain text editor that at the end of the process gives you usable text for html at least that was the original idea now since then it's become so much more because now you can export as rich text and you can do all sorts of cool things with markdown but having a starting point where you can sit there with the keyboard and not have to fiddle with code snippets and make something that's usable later. That's right. So the initial pitch when Gruber announced it is that this is a tool to convert plane tech's to html for people who are riding on the web, and so if you're blogging and you need Italics were bold or links, you don't have to do that in html you can do it in mark down and then they're marginally two things. It's the syntax and there's an interpreter and you can. Get it on your website and it Lowe's html and everybody sees a regular web page. But like you said over the years it has. Shown up everywhere. It's even supported in x code now as of a couple of years ago, which is gonNA. Feel pretty good. If you're if you're John Right this product you built being blessed and put an exco that's gotta be pretty. Cool. Talking about those two pieces of let's break them down for a second because the first piece to me is almost is definitely more important than the second piece in the first piece is it's a text syntax where you can include links and rich text items without having a rich text. You know nobody in air quotes here, word processor at your disposal, and that is something that's very useful but the syntax in addition to being something that's easily convertible he also made it and I think this is the genius of markdown he made easily readable. So when you read if I put a page of html in front of anybody listening to the show next to page of mark down. It would be obvious how much easier it is to read markdown than html because h inasmuch codes and tags and other things in it that really get in the way of finding the words whereas markdown is all about the words and the very simple syntax we're gonNA teach you here shortly. embeds all that stuff for you. So you don't you don't need to worry about.

Teacher David MacDonald's Journey to Apple

"As always whenever we have a guest on the thing we all want to know and as kind of gear you're using so let's start with the MAC. What kind of Max are using so Most of my composition takes place on the MAC and most of my teaching takes place on the IPAD. The MACs that I have in my rotation are my laptop is a late twenty thirteen. Thirteen inch macbook pro. And at the time I had it pretty close to Spec out everything except the The internal. Ssd was Kinda maxed out. That's the obviously the really pricey one and that is believe it or not my first MAC so The first one that I personally owned I was all windows and Android all through school and My one of my first gigs out of school was an all Mac shop and they ended me a macbook pro twenty twelve. This was one of the body Max. It still had an optical drive and that really was my first MAC and I know everybody talks about. The iphone is the halo device to get people into the apple ecosystem for me. It was the other way round. I had a MAC for about a year and it took a little bit of adjustment but I quickly figured out the things that I liked better about especially Mac os than windows and that caused me to want to get mobile devices. That interacted better with my Mac. Because I had android tip I have probably three or four android tablets by that time and so i. I've always been a nerd anyway. So that's my laptop and my desktop is a twenty seventeen. Twenty seven inch I Mac Five K. I think it's the last generation of the imax before they introduced the I mac pro later that year. So that those are my two main my my main writing implements outside of obviously just paper and Pencil but they're they are serving me well. I'm pleasantly surprised at how well my twenty thirteen Mac. Pro is holding up. You know I haven't been hearing from a lot of people say you know windows. They've really come a long way. It's a lot better now is so much that I've been intentionally trying to not be abrasive about it on the show and My wife is working from home You know as we go through this and so she brought her work laptop home and the it people are at her company. Just overwhelmed. You know it takes five hours to get somebody on the phone. So when she's got a little it problem. I've been trying to help her. So I've been using windows a again and you know what I was wrong. It's still terrible. I I mean I feel like I know a lot about computers and getting it to do. Things is is really not very intuitive Mac. Os still is remarkably better than anything else on a on a traditional computing platform. I feel it has changed so much just in the couple of years. Since I've been a fulltime windows user that I I don't recognize anything anymore and harder weirder bad. It's just really unfamiliar to me. Now I feel that I've had enough experience to say it is bad. This is I point out that I have a problem that I can't say David and know who were who I'm talking to. So David sparkes. You're still going to be David but David McDonald. We're GONNA to. I'm going to call you Doctor David. Because you've got a doctor in front of your name and that will separate the two of you for the listener. How does that sound I can live with that? Okay so Sadako. David not not regular David. Dr David Guest David. You said that the MAC was sort of your way into the apple ecosystem and I was thinking. Yeah that's the same for me. I remember I did you know twenty years ago. They weren't but what what came next. So you got the MAC from this job. You're getting used to it. What was sort of the next step into the water? The next step was about not quite a year later or maybe a little more than a year later. I got my first ipod. Which was an IPAD. Air To Right when that came out and I was trying to use an IPAD air to and MAC book pro and my android phone for about a month and a half before I was able to upgrade that. And then my first iphone was the iphone six plus and there were a couple of reasons that I was okay. Moving to iphone at that time. The some of the things that I really liked about android like the the notifications and the third party keyboards in the larger display all came around that same time and then also that was. I think around the time that airdrop was starting to be supported in various devices and that is a total game. Changer if you have enough other apple devices so that was my first my first iphone. I still have it somewhere. Casually will use it like a microphone into it and use it as kind of a handy portable recorder. So you really haven't been on the platform that long but sounds like you've really jumped on it. You said earlier that you. You've always been a nerd What were the things you lost going from? Android to the IRS operating system. That you that you still miss if there are any I I still think android does a lot better with notifications. Ios has gotten better at that I like the options for customizing the home screen on Android a lot too and the the biggest one. I guess I still really miss. I really liked the way android separates the idea of your home screen from your list of all your APPs. I think that is a very good thing to do. Because as as we know you know most of the time we know where like maybe ten to twelve of our APPS are on our phone screens and everything else we search for I would just as soon have everything automatically not show up on the home screen at all but just a couple of things that I know that I want to have on the home screen and everything else can live and just an alphabetical list of all my apps which is basically what what android does and I. I really like

"Welcome to APP stories that weekly exploration of the world of APPS. Today's show is brought to you by pinged him. Zap Ear and direct mail. I'm John Voorhees and with me is my co host Federico Vitucci. Hey Federico. Hey John how are you. I'm hanging in there. You know it's been another kind of busy Z. Week here at Max's stories and we have so much to talk about but you know everybody assumed that when you published your review of of IOS and ipad Os thirteen that we were Kinda done but you know we always we always have surprises at Mac stories and you're you're kind of a a master of surprises so you had a little something extra up your sleeve. This year wanted wanted to explain to people what that is because I think it's pretty neat and something that a lot of listeners. There's of this show would be interested in yeah so I kept this one a secret from from a lot of people for a long time it's a project. We've been working on since July. I was on vacation when when they started planning the whole thing so we launched a new product. It's called Max Oris shortcuts. What's Collins and it's right there in the name. It's a set of three hundred icons custom icons for shortcuts. They you want to add to the home screen so you know you probably heard of the shortcuts home screen as an idea before we've talked about it here on the show other folks like David Sparkes have talked about it would be you know it's the idea of in the shortcuts app you can add your or most used shortcuts as launchers to the home screen both on the iphone and the IPAD and a few months ago I had the idea uh innocuous thirteen and I thirteen you can choose a custom icon for your home screen shortcuts from the files files APP and the files APP allows you to load. PNG FILES IN DIFFERENT FILE formats. It's more reliable than photos from their point of view and so so I thought wouldn't it be fun. If Max Oris you know maturity is the place where people go to read about shortcuts and to download shortcuts from the Mexico's archive wouldn't wouldn't it be nice if Max stories also provided those users with customization options with teaming options to make their home screens unique and so my thought was we're not making I can set we're.

"Hello, friends, David Sparkes here along with my friends, Stephen Hackett. How're you doing today? Stephen, david. I am good. Glad to be back in. We're gonna get nerdy bus MAC stuff today. Yeah. Mac mini the apple released. A new MAC mini. We've got a lot to talk about it. What you can do with it. I think a lot of people are wondering where does this fit my life? Or is there a place for it? Well, we're going to cover all of the options today. And maybe a MAC mini does fit in your life. But before we do that a couple preliminary announcements don't forget the Seattle meet up for automakers. And and frankly, MAC power users and all the other relay folks that we're going to have on January nineteenth. They're still maybe space for that. But it's filling up very quickly, and we'll put a link in the shutouts. Also, don't forget we're doing a live our users episode recording in Chicago in early March. And that is another one we're going to put the Lincoln the show notes, but it's filling up quickly. So please get in there if you're interested. Yeah, we love to see people on I'm so bummed. I'm not gonna make it to Seattle. I thought about a last minute trip, but it's not gonna paint out. But as a Kaga was going to be a whole lot of fun. We're excited to take the show on the road, and and get out and meet some people. And you know, I've heard there's something in Chicago in the in the early spring called snow, so we'll get to experience that that'll be fun. It's gonna be it's gonna be great Chicago will fake you out. You know, coming from California. I look out the hotel window in Chicago around this time of year, and it's like sunny, and it looks nice. I'm like, oh, great t shirt and shorts. Right. And then you walk out the door and the wind is coming up at lake and I think I'm going to die. Yep. It's pretty it's pretty exciting. I like Chicago. Yeah. I mean, it's it's a it's a fun place to go to do work stuff before we started. I would like to thank everybody for such the warm, welcome. Our previous episode has been up for a couple of days now when we record this, and I've got so many gracious and encouraging emails and tweets and messages in the forms. It's really nice to be. Welcomed into such a institution, like MAC, power user. So thank you to everyone. Who's who's taking the time to write me a note? It really means the world to me. So we're we're excited to get going. All right. So the MAC mini got an update it did it did what a great feeling for a while. We weren't sure if it was going to fade away into the night or or what was going to happen. But the got an update, but we thought we thought we'd take the MAC mini on today. But before we kind of talk about the most recent update, I guess there's a little bit of a history lesson involved there is and you have me now to talk about MEC history. So you told me my initial twelve patriot for this. You didn't accepts I short. The MAC mini came around in two thousand five it came in at a time where the ipod was just lying the world on fire. Right. The ipod was huge hit. And there's something called the halo effect. People would buy an ipod. And the next time they need a computer. They look at, you know, an ibook or PowerBook or something that, you know, because hey, it's made us people make my pod that works. Really, well, but the computers were well and to capitalize on this. Apple introduced the MAC mini. It's called the MAC mini..

"And then the other day, I was listening to you on a pumpkin for someone referred to you as. An ipad guy Jason ipad Gaelic, Jason snow, and I thinking when did Jason become an ipad guy, and in Tulsa, a little bit about your history with these small laptops in and what's happened while I'm gonna I'm gonna quote from David Sparkes who said no there there are people out there like are, which are you are you team MAC or you team ipad? And the the line is I'm team both. Right. And that is that is basically where I am. So I am a desktop MAC user. But I basically don't use a MAC laptop anymore. So I use my MAC, I sit at my desk, and I use my MAC, and I love it. And I had that MAC server, and I love it. I when I go out of this room into the rest of my house, or whether when I travel I try very hard to not take back with me. I basically, I'm using the ipad pro all the time for all of that stuff. And it's you know, it has its moments. Where I think if only I had access to a MAC here. Sometimes that's very nice that I can use that remote can use screens or something like that in connect back to my server and do a thing that the only can be done on the MAC, but mostly I don't need to do that. It's been awhile since I needed to do something like that the tools have have caught up in in many ways, if not always and. Yeah. So so that's basically where I am. Now is that I'm a desktop MAC user, which I know is a very much a minority. Right. Most maximum soldier, laptops. But for mobility purposes, I'm an IRS user, and I don't think desktop MAC user is as much as a minority as it used to be because of that maybe not maybe not. I mean apple in terms of overall sales. It's whatever two thirds or three quarters of the MAC sold our our, laptops. Because blacktop is more convenient, right? Like my wife used to use an imac on a desk. And now, she just has she's had a macbook air the last few years, and that's just that we don't have the computer on the desk anymore..

"David Sparkes along with my pal Katie Floyd. Hi, Katie flowing. How are you today? Well, I don't know David. I have so many thoughts so many thoughts. Okay. So we're recording this the evening after the Big Apple where we got new macbook airs and new ipad pros and a bunch of other stuff. And that I MAC. Oh, wait. No. We didn't. Yeah. And Katie did not get her. I'm back. In fact, I was watching that we she was texting me during the event. Well, we'll get to that later. But we're we're going to go through Apple's announcements our thoughts on them. Maybe talk about it if or whether or not we'll be spending any money and just how we see these new product releases affecting kind of the future of those platforms before we get started. I just want. Everybody know, I got all your emails about me falling over in the last episode and just to be clear, I did not fall over I caught myself on my fancy desk and also for all you people emailed me. I am once again wearing socks. On my cork floor, and it's very possible that I'll go down again. That's all I'm saying are you sitting down because I think we should have a new rule that she should only podcast while seated I can't sit the whole time Katie because my watch tells me after stand about halfway through. And that's usually when when we do it Katie ad break because when I push the button, so we'll see I I made it through four hundred fifty three episodes without falling down. So let's let's all they can maybe you maybe you can go another four fifty three without exactly. What else was there anything else that was coming out of last episode? Oh, west wing people were supposed to talk to you about watching the west wing. Nobody Romi about whistling not a single person it because I've I've been copied on Twitter. So people have been tweeting you about it. I think I know what you're talking about talking about. All right. So let's talk about apple. They wasted. No time today. I thought it was interesting Tim has got the new energize bunny version of Tim I've seen that in the last couple episodes of the apple announcements where he comes out, and he's he's more animated than he used to be. I'm not really that. This does all that relevant. But it is kind of interesting to see how he tries to work on his presentation skills. He's very he's excited. He's I think he's getting into a groove. He's been doing enough of these now. And I thought the ordering of the apple event was interesting. You know, of course, I got very excited when they started right off the back with max. And I was like, okay. Here we go. This is a MAC of this is an IOS event. This is a MAC of. And let's go. Then, you know, then they transitioned, but I will tell you this is one of my favorite apple events that I think we've had in a long time. Well, one of the things I liked about it is there wasn't a big. You know, spill the beans mistake beforehand, and that's been happening a lot lately this event. I mean, we kind of we knew we suspected MAC book airs we knew I pad pros. But we really didn't know the details of them. We didn't have the kind of monumental leaks. That Apple's had in the last few big events. It was nice. It was really nice to have a surprise event. I mean, we we knew generally kind of what we were expecting. But a lot of the details didn't leak I just it was it was lovely. I I was in her tained. I was surprised I was unpleasantly surprised at one point. But it was a very enjoyable event to watch. And I think part of that was because you didn't know every detail of everything going into it. So I I thoroughly enjoyed watching this event. Yeah. We get a lot of emails from listeners. And you see it in the forum sometimes people saying that the MAC is dead and apple doesn't care about it anymore. I don't really think that's true. I I am..

"No, I'm good. So listener, Katie has a question for David. A really? Yes. Making the transition from dropbox. I cloud, how do you do it? And so the first one I might know who that person is, so I can expound I can expand on this question. If you need if you need her to. All right, Katie Katie. Would you like to know what listeners Katie question it? So listener Katie. Is considering making a switch from from dropbox to I cloud, because listener Katie has realized that she is spending a lot of not a lot of money, but she spending money on all these various cloud services, and she has all these various pots of storage in different places and does she really need them? And could she just consolidate because she's she's got to pay for her. I cloud storage. So could she maybe get rid of her dropbox storage that she's paying for? Because she really doesn't need a terabyte on dropbox. She she really doesn't. She she's got a fair amount of storage on dropbox for free because she got an early and that kind of stuff. But she she uses more than her free amount right now because she's she's got all of her documents and data in dropbox. But she could also transition that too. I clown, but she's nervous because you know, apple that do that so well. But David Sparkes says that it's okay. Now it's just trust me still. It's just move all your files. So I did it because. Because I me when we were in the Iowa's eleven beta, I believe when apple fixed the file system, you know, dropbox wasn't connected to that in in frankly, the third party services never as well connected to that file system as Apple's own stuff. And in a moment of just reckless abandon, I copied all my dropbox stuff and put it into club. And so the first thing I did when I did that was I made sure I had good backups, and I made sure I have a good system for continuing to back up. And this is an almost two years ago year and a half ago. So I clouds still had a reputation of of losing files. Right? So I did. I just copied everything over because I use nested folders. The process was simply dragging from one folder on my MAC to another folder, and the upload took a little while, but once the upload was done, it's great. I can access everything through the cloud system. I think it's good if you're on. First of all, you have to be only on an apple ecosystem to consider doing something like this. If you're working multi-platform with Android or PC, this is not an option for you. So could you not if you I'm just saying you're on PC during the day, could you not access your files through I cloud dot com. Either.

"Liver one. This is David Sparkes along with my pal Katie Floyd. How're you doing today? I'm great. David. How are you? Good. I am actually looking forward to this episode. We talk about music on the show once in a while. If you go back in the archives, we have some episodes where we really got deep into our apple scripting and our smart playlists and all the things that used to be involved with owning and managing your music library. But the, you know, the music distribution method has changed a lot since then a lot of us have subscription models. I know I do. I don't think you do though. I do not know. Well, I have like half a subscription model. We'll talk about that. Yeah. No. How's that for tension? She has half of subscription gonna hear about that. But anyway, so we thought it would be fun to go back and talk about how we're managing music because I know in my case, I'm managing way different than I did the last time we talked about it, and I think I've got some pretty good workflows make an help some folks out. So today we're going to focus on music, and if we get time, we're going to get into some other audio. Things like a car play and some of the other audio related stuff. But the focus of this episode is music. So I think we should get started, yes, but before we do I, I have an announcement. Now you've had an announcement the last couple of episodes, but I have an announcement. I want to throw in a plug and let you know that I will be speaking at the MAC track slash comes up with the new name every couple of years, but they're now calling it. MAC track slash. I track legal conference. It is at the true the one, the only the real DisneyWorld it is the Tiffany's yacht and beach club down in Orlando that will be held September twenty seven through twenty nineth this year. It isn't event for MAC, living attorneys or if you're of the legal persuasion or profession, but they have really make an an I o s focus. There's still some MAC stuff in there too, but it's a big IOS focus on the Mack truck or at backtrack slash. I guess that's why they're calling it. I try. Legal this year, lots of talking about how the b- mo- more productivity work. Talk about how to use your Iowa's devices. Talk about changes that you can make in your workplace. Anyway, lots of interesting stuff. It is one of my favourite conferences to attend our pelvic to Medina puts it on. They do a great job. Everything at Disney is first class. You can have a lot of fun, both staying. They're going to the parks, maybe go into the food and wine festival that's over at Epcot, but check announced one of my favorite conferences to go. I'll just go out and say, it's my favorite conference to go to every year. That's at MAC, track legal dot com. And I will be speaking there on Saturday. So hopefully I, we'll see some of you there. I would just add to that that it is a really fun conference if you are at all involved legal industry and use a MAC or or an Iowa device or or an eye to us, you know how precious it is to have a allies and people that also are using them..

"Hello everyone this is david sparkes along with my pal katie floyd how're you doing katie i'm great david how're you know i can't complain i i'm excited about this episode we were you know recently i was watching the steve jobs keynote and announcing the iphone and you and i were talking about things and we got talking about the issue of the iphone as a communication device i mean when steve i announced the iphone explained that it was what was it was an ipod and internet device and communicator it was a wide screen ipod yes it was a phone and an internet communicator yes they go you got the lingo right so without let's let's take a look at that how does it stack up and we wanted to look specifically at getting the most out of your iphone for the for the phone features for the messaging features in and basically communication with this little thing that you put in your pocket so we've got a bunch of stuff an outline can't wait to get through it all i was thinking i wonder if we could do suffer shows on the other two i mean i don't think there's a whole show on the the iphone is an white screaming i bought no i don't think so i think that's one that history is kind of left i know people still watch stuff on it but people don't think about it that much but but in terms of communication the iphone changed the landscape i mean we started out thinking about it a phone messaging but smartphones and the iphone specifically and smartphones in general have really changed the way people use these devices to communicate and there's a lot to cover here so we we've got like i said a big outline looking for it again through it before we do so a couple announcements the the m p discourse forum is hopping it's great i'm really happy thank you everybody for adopting it so quickly if you haven't yet there's still room for you in there we have greater the server because we had so many people coming in that's great there's a lot of fun conversations going on in there and thank you enjoy that we also have some news in terms of mac power users merchandise we were not planning on doing this but we actually you've missed the promotion but last week cotton bureau celebrated their fifth birthday and asked us as long as some of your other favorite mac podcasters to re release some special editions of our our merchandise including our famous mp hoodie and our mp glow t shirt and last week they were giving away some fantastic prizes on their site and if any of you won any of those let us know we'd love to to hear that that'd be awesome send us a photo of you and your your imputation or hoodie with with whatever amazing gadget you want from con bureau but but also although the i think the time to win prizes is gone the merchandise is still up available i believe through the end of this week if you want to grab an mp hoodie or you want to grab an mp tshirt because i think there's a two week minimum on those so you still can order an mp you shirt or an mp hoodie and we'll put links to those in the show notes i've got a ton of emails from people right after the time to order those last year closed saying oh i wanted to and i just didn't get in fast enough and we had about a dozen or actually a couple of dozen people who were on kind of the preorder list for them and we said well sorry we weren't bringing them back well we did but we're probably not again really this time so if you if you want it get it and you know when i was in san jose for wwe see there was macadear users was well represented lots of people around with our t shirts and hoodies so would love to see more of you get your get your shirt i i think the battery shirt looks really cool i'm just saying also the i keep pimping this london thing but you know it's coming up so i thought i would where i'm going to be in london july ninth there's opposed at max park yell lincoln it's also a discourse form it's nothing really fancy it's not really a organized party so.

"Hello everyone this is david sparkes along with my pal katie floyd how are you today i'm well david how are you i'm doing great and i thought today would be fun to go take a look at the i work sweet yeah you know apple had this education event was it march when we had the education event feels like it was a while ago and they gave i worked some love i i work you know kind of started out big gangbusters we had the i work sweet and the i life sweet and then it kinda got an update that wasn't really an update where it lost some features but gained some compatibility with us and people were worried it was kind of limiting for a while but it says seems like apple is slowly but perhaps surely and bringing it back up to speed yeah you know it's it's funny there's there's a lot of haters out there for i work you know i don't know it's it's not microsoft office and it's not google documents at somewhere in the middle of those too but what i got thinking about when they came out this update because i use i work actually quite a bit in all the various facets of life is just how often i use this aphids it's free it works really well on well i mean it's it's it's free with a mac purchase and is it free with irs if you if you buy west of isis to come my work i think it does yeah but so it's it's for the most part it's free other i think technically if you went to go buy it from the app store if you didn't have it would be ninety nine right i don't even know if that's true anymore i'll check before we we finish this show but i let's put it this way if you bought a piece of hardware with the fruit stamped on the back it's free and most people listening to this show that's probably you so it's you know as opposed to microsoft office that you need to pay subscription for these days so it's free it's got some really powerful features i use it like i said throughout my law practice and i think there's a lot of folks that have not checked in with.

"Hey everybody is david sparkes along with my pal katie floyd how are you katie i'm well david how're you excellent excellent you know it's been a long time since we really went deep on browsers on the mac power users and it's it's really your window to the internet on your computers in your iowa's devices so we thought it'd be time to go back and take a look at what browsers we like which we don't like and what we're doing with them and you know more and more people are living in their web browser apps steve jobs once famously we launched the i the iphone without any apps and web apps we're supposed to be the suite solution and although i certainly cannot imagine i o s without apps i feel like for for laptops and for desktops on on the mac for many things we've kind of come full circle on that and we're starting to see more and more software and services that we use go to the cloud at it solves the cross platform thing and are browsers are the gateway to the software and services platforms agreeing and his alleged talk about on that but before we do i just wanted to take a minute to thank you dear listener for listening to the show and mika request we don't do this very often on the show but if you have a minute if you would take the time to go on i tunes and give us a review we would really appreciate it it's one of the best ways we find new listeners and we do hear from your listeners all the time that found us through a search and i tunes they saw the good reviews and they decided to give the show a try and now they're hooked so we would really appreciate it if you took the time to do that i like i said we don't want to do this too often we don't want to bother you too much but we put a lot of work in the show and we wanna find some new listeners all the time so if you took a minute to go in items this week and give us a review we would be very thankful and even if you don't use the apple podcasts at a lot of apple kind of maintained the directory that a lot of other places search so having more and higher star review.

"Right like i think that would have to be that's my walkup music for the pundits showdown podcast when we did that at world so i think that we have to be that's that's a good choice and honestly if i would have written ons you that would have been the answer i would written down i know she loved that song it's a great that'd be it got to be it so we have some follow up about books author in the lost episode of to talking about the education event we are under the impression that the inclusion of digital book publishing tools digital creation tools i should say in pages meant the ibex was going to be dead but serenity cold welcome found of apple the i books author is continuing his own standalone product and that the pages update is not a replacement for it it used to exist yeah we we have our shovels out we were ready to bury it and serenity broke down the doors and was like no no no it's still alive don't bury it yet although i have a hard time believing that they're gonna put much effort into author i hope i hope i'm wrong but i think it's more likely that they would upgrade the book publishing stuff inside of pages and then keep i books author around just for the people who are are already using it you can definitely do stuff with books author that you can't do with pages and that format is still supported and i book and only books but this is good news for people like our friend david sparkes who who do books author format that they can still do that it's okay and jason brooks remains of products in all lineup but there is nothing most about it today.
