"Back to the town Hall Review with you. You it. Why is President Donald Trump Fighting appeared on NBC News on Wednesday night to explain Lester Holt, Savannah Guthrie, Chuck Todd and Casey on exactly why the president is fighting on every front. This isn't about Donald Trump. The Republican Party has to fight they have to fight in Arizona. They have faith in Nevada. They have to find Georgia where they have to charge up for as you noted, to run off raises, which they're very confident about, which would lead the send 52 48, so they have to show their supporters not just their contributors, but their voters. We're not a party that gets walked over after that appearance. I played that quote for GOP Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel. She's in charge of the entire party. And I discussed with her exactly what it means to the Republican Party that they fight on every front who is in charge of this legal effort nationally. For the Trump campaign. It would be Justin Clark, who is running that for them, And that's obviously where most of the legal challenges are going to come from. And then the RNC works in conjunction and We've been sending lawyers out to the states and actually getting bodies in, so we'll be part of the canvassing process. In some of these states looking for irregularities in Georgia, you can cure ballots, so we've spent a lot of folks there to make sure that we have that ability. Democrats. Of course, they're going to do that. So, but he is the person running it for the Trump campaign and nationally one way or the other. George is going to matter a lot in January. They're going to provide the 52nd Senate seat or the 51st Senate seat, depending on whether or not David Perdue holds on to his 50%, who runs the Georgia Republican Party. And how do people listening to show who are so inclined? We're on live in Atlanta, get a huge audience in Atlanta and in McComb and Athens, another play. How do people get help? The Georgia Republican Party? Well, I say, just help the national Republican Party Right now we're we're running. A huge legal effort will be running the recount operation and big paying for that so and also the ground game. So Goto GOP dot com or when red and donate and that's how you're going to be helpful, but they have a great chair there. His name is David Shafer, very, very good guy in Georgia, and we feel very strong about our ground game and we'll have a message to go to Georgia. In these run offs, which is Democrats. If they take the Senate will get rid of the filibuster. They will stack the Supreme Court and they will fundamentally transform our government and remove checks and balances. And I just don't think the people of Georgia are gonna want that It is interesting Hugh across the country. Lindsey Graham was outspent by 30 million. Mitch McConnell was outspent by 40 million. I mean, the list goes on and on Joni Ernst was outspent by double double on. We still held the Senate seats and they threw buckets of money..

"We'll have more about that. When our program continues. Then later this morning on the forum program Wells Fargo CEO, Tim Sloan is appearing before the House Financial Services committee today. His testimony coming after a New York Times investigation found that Wells Fargo employees are still being pressured to meet aggressive sales targets also look at President Trump trying to speed up the approval process to send more water to central valley. Farmers and we'll hear from bay area. Naturalist Michael L says well, Michael Krasny. As your host for forum from nine to eleven today on this is morning edition from NPR news. I'm David Greene in Culver City, California. And I'm Steve Inskeep. In washington. DC? Good morning. The secretary of transportation offer some basic advice after two Boeing plane crashes aviation remains broadly safe, and Elaine Chao sees no reason yet to ground the Boeing seven thirty seven max eight I want to be assured that we take these accidents very seriously. We are reviewing them very carefully. Other countries have seen enough for now. But the US says it's too early to stop flights by the seven thirty seven max eight although two planes in five months have gone down soon after takeoff in h. NPR's? David Shafer covers aviation is on the line. Either. David good morning, Steve. How is the FAA approaching this? Well, you know, the FAA is waiting to learn more. They have investigators site NATO helping with the investigation that is being led by the authorities. But they have been taking steps along the way they they don't see any reason to ground the 737 max eight plane just yet, but they have ordered some changes after that crash in Indonesia, the lion air jet that went down. There are certain things that were noticed by investigators even though they haven't determined to final 'cause they've focused on a an automated flight control system that they believe may have played a role, and they've ordered some design changes the FAA has as a result of what was found in an investigation. So and Boeing is saying that that they should have those those changes made within the next couple of weeks some activity going on they acted based on the earlier crash. Josh where more time has passed. And more information is known this other crash. Of course is very recent takes time to figure it out. What do you think would cause the trigger the FAA to save gotta grab those planes? Well, I think if they if they notice a certain flaw that was could be repeating itself over and over again, if they have reports, and I don't know that they do of other planes having similar problems, but they were able to correct them without a without a crash. They would definitely do that. You know, the FAA did do this with the with one of Boeing's big new jets one of their exciting planes, the Dreamliner the seven eighty seven a couple of years ago when they found that the batteries were catching fire, even though there was no incidents that caused a plane to crash or any sort of significant incident. This was bad enough that the FAA did ground those planes for a couple of months until Boeing could find a fix me did fix the problem in those planes have been flying quite well, that's NPR's David Schaper. Let's bring another voice into the conversation. Now, Sarah, Nelson is president of the association. A flight attendants who've been raising concerns here. Good morning. Good morning. Thank you for having me. Do you? Want your flight attendants to be boarding 737? Max aids. Well, look we called on the FAA yesterday to immediately conducted investigation into work with all regulatory bodies manufacturers and the airlines to get US Masters here, we run the safest system in the world safest transportation system in the world. And it's so safe that these things just don't happen. So when you have an incident that happened five months apart from each other other have similar characteristics. A lot of people are raising questions, and we really need some answers to be sure that we can restore confidence for the travelling public. And for all the crews out there flying on these planes blow. It sounds like the FAA is looking into it. But I guess the immediate question is whether those planes in the United States should be flying today. That is the immediate question. And as you reported just a few minutes ago. There is precedent for grounding, those planes until there is a confidence that all the issues have been resolved. And and so that is a question that the EPA and you ask we're not directly calling for that. We want to make sure that we've got all the information from these investigations, but we need we need to know that answers are being given here. You know, the FAA issued a flight worthy directive flight worthiness. Directive in December based on the initial findings from the line air crash. And we'd like an update, for example on white US airlines have done to implement that directive. So there's a lot of information and transparency here is the FAA provide that can help to give confidence to the crews and to the traveling public. What kinds of concerns are you hearing from the flight attendants in your organization? Well, the flight attendants are saying are asking is this safe. They end win. That question is out there. That's very concerning because when crews are getting on the planes, and and they're not sure and let me just say that we have the utmost confidence in US pilots who are certified at high levels and will not take off on a plane. They do not feel that it's safe. But when crews are leaving this outstanding question about what is the cost of this. What is going on here, we need some answers. So that we can feel confident and getting on these planes, and and those questions are continuing to grow. They're not being subsided. Here. I'm I'm glad to see that. There's some movement in just even the past couple of hours with the FAA. And and I think that we need to step that up and make sure that we're laying all concerned if individual flight attendants are uncomfortable getting on the plane, would you support them individual flight attendants have that right today? And of course, we support them in that. And and so. Do they know that they know that they can raise the issue, and they can they can do that. If they need to. We're not calling on anyone to do that. And we're not encouraging that, but but they certainly have that like Sara Sara Nelson. Thanks so much. Really? Appreciate it. Thank you very much. She is president president of the association of flight attendants and NPR's David Schaper has been listening along with us, David what did you hear there? Well, I think it's interesting that, you know, some there are a lot of questions I've talked to pilots who fly the seven thirty seven who fly the seven seven max plane, and they feel confident that they now have the information they didn't feel that way after the the lion. Aircrash a few a few months ago, they felt like Boeing had made some changes significant changes to this new aircraft that they were not made aware of and that they were not properly trained for they feel like at least in this country that they have all the information that they need those pilots to say that they will not fly a plane. That they do not think is safe and right now at least in this country. They feel it is safe to fly the seven thirty seven max. Okay. NPR's David Schaper. Thanks for your work. My pleasure. Steve. "Oh yeah that's right forgot to do that Little I was. I was so busy looking at, all these I've got a so, this? Committee the committee of what. Protecting journalists right you really helped on this. They've got a list in two thousand seventeen there were two hundred sixty, two journalists, that were imprisoned throughout the world the world? How many, in the. United States of America Trying to find like right now I don't see any from the United States at all I would guess that's probably it it said. After. After Turkey which. Had the most. Jailed journalists Turkey absolutely it's a dictatorship seventy three were Excuse me Turkey at Seventy-three China forty one Egypt with twenty and then it starts going down to like the United States the United States I don't see any. Zero zero reporters put in jail for what they reported because this is America and we don't do you hear an awful lot of rhetoric I think, I'm gonna have to do, it in the podcast thirty want to talk about how I came to this epiphany over, the weekend that I I don't. Like protest songs but I also have some, stuff that, I learned about Barundi. And it all fits together but. I need a little time I need a little time to to. Get. You know all. That. Out there But Is a little bit, there All, of this talk like women all we have to protect women's rights in this country This Trump he said a vulgar, thing on a recording on a bus twelve years ago We must be protected from. This and I think to myself I this guy's been. President and don't get me wrong he's a goofball when I go after. Them quite often but I'm I'm interested in in the facts of the matter Since this president was sworn in Almost two years ago not quite a year and a half or more Consumption tell me the thing that women had the right to. Do before his, inauguration that women don't have the right to do now I. Missed it but sometimes I will sleep for, a couple of days straight so it's quite possible Then it dropped on. A Saturday or something when I was just sleeping off a big old drunk the night before a drinking binge as I'm fond. Of going on, drinking binges and then you sleep for a long time maybe. I was sleeping through The law. That the. Republican congress, passed that rescinded this or that right from women did I miss that. What is? It that women can't? Do now, that, they were able to do before this president was inaugurated. Oh it just doesn't matter it doesn't mean anything it's nonsense you know obviously this, last night it's like this Brian Kemp and that Brian Kemp but what what was the race. David Shafer shameful David Shaffer Was that for secretary of state tax. Commissioner wasn't? It whatever it was? He lost and, the commercials This is why I could never run for, office I am not willing to destroy another human being Just, to, get the power that I want I'm just I can't imagine them. So Viscaya one I dunno, David Schafer I never, heard, of David. Schafer I know nothing about him I knew that my introduction David Shafer. Worthy shameful David Shafer ads now David Shafer, put out ads and he. Had a whole different story he was saying he was a great guy but that's. I didn't win I know nothing about a David. Shafer except for the commercials that come at me And leading up to that election what was the. Four Lieutenant governor okay and he lost to, Jeff Duncan okay so so. It was it was a Jeff Duncan who was saying he was shameful that's right Now I'm watching these commercials. During, the election and I'm thinking wow if this is true that guy should be put. In jail He's evil he shouldn't be, allowed to go, just, do business like a, normal person in Georgia with this shameful So then Jeff Duncan wins and David Shafer loses in suddenly nobody cares that he was shameful So that was all BS like if Jeff Dunkin was on the, first question I would say to him as. Well when you get an office if you win what are you gonna deal about this shameful David Shafer seems to me that we've left some business on the table because you are. Scaring the budgies ass- Adamy that this, guy was an actual threat, to, the citizens? Of Georgia but, then when the election was over I didn't hear you say oh what s Oh what you really. Know the oh you actually sometimes you're in the same, room and you mingle with them and you. Guys are friendly to each. Other oh you just made it up oh oh, I'm a dummy you wanted power and so you were willing to destroy another human, being given the fact that I'm actually a. Person with some empathy and I don't understand doing that like destroying somebody else so that you can get power I get it I'm naive oh you didn't mean it it was all. BS because leading up to the election, it seemed like this guy, was, a menace To society and, then as soon as he lost the election Nobody talked about. The fact that he was such a danger anymore That's bizarre to me That's bizarre to me Watch out so he's only he's only a threat if he wins the Lieutenant governor's race or, primary in that situation while he was a member of the order of, the Greek horsemen shameful Times Yes Coach the baseball? Team I don't. Know what I'm saying here's I'm. Not defending David. Schafer I. Don't know David. Schafer, I don't know All I, know is that his opponent told. Me that he was, a menace to society and the. Day after the election he stopped. Talking about it. Now that'd. Be like saying This Dr Frankenstein has unleashed a monster on the public and that gets him, elected and then afterward he never mentions the monster anymore Care she's out there If, there's a real threat then. The threat would? Continue am I wrong I know I'm. Being naive here In the New York Times. Some local professor? Wrote some editorial buying cow doozy Guys, got to be stopped the enemy of democracy guy wakes up. In the morning and he eats racism for breakfast He's totally that's all it's about for him for. This Brian Kent that's all, he cares about is making sure that only white people are allowed to vote in elections I get up every morning, have a bowl of shredded while David shavers realize is like oh okay now I get it so in order for Stacey Abrams to. Be where, she is and in order for Brian Kemp to be. Where he is and to face off against each other the one thing that we know about both. Of them is they're both, willing to destroy another human being To get the power they want So Brian Kemp the editorial the New York Times wasn't about why. He isn't right for the job how he did is it's all about if I'm deeply this editorial Brian Kemp for the last ten years or more has been doing is only mission in life was, to keep black people from voting and then you read the thing and. There's no new, news in there no new news, nothing new news. That's coming up no new news I basically the idea is that Georgia has been run. By Republicans for a long time so. Districts are gerrymandered in their favor find me a state where one party either party has been charged for over twenty years where districts have not been gerrymandered to keep that party. In power It would be news if you found a state where it didn't happen News is supposed to be the unusual So the New York Times, says no we've never met. Brian Kemp but we want a blue Georgia And we're willing to destroy a human being to get the power we want and I'm not letting Kemp off the hook because he's going to say things about. Abrahams that show me that he's, willing, to destroy another human being, to get the power he wants They're all.

"Ahead fifty nine point zero seven to forty point nine three basically sixty forty split right now as things shape up. For the night and it, looks like let me give you a survey of the state here as we get into the totals. We have now remember last time he had a very significant array of Casey Caygill support throughout the. State except there was this vein around. Athens that had the Kim support you had the butts Jasper County Newton county Morgan Greene county oglethorpe will Clark county all the way over to Elbert and Lincoln counties they're just north of Augusta that was, allied forgive and then you had a kill lying that kind of it was almost like a Is almost like a less than sign you had a Camden County Carleton county where county in the. South in a diagonal line up towards Twiggs county Blackley, county Polaski unduly in the state farm country, basically farm country was killed and then the Athens county county area. Skimpy also went Harrelson county, there on the Alabama line in clay county they're in South Georgia on the Alabama. Line in again Webster this time as the votes, come in it is, a far more diverse set up in the vote, totals Brian Kemp is doing very very well throughout the state in near as he had not done in the past, but Casey, Caygill, is also. Himself doing fairly strong not quite matching him but coming close in the. Other races right now the race to bear in. Mind to keep watching tonight is the. David Shafer Jeff Dunkin race eat is Earl Early and. He is, close in both sides believed it was close fifty one forty eight right now Schaefer. Dunkin I've voted for I everyone tells reductions a. Good guy I don't know Dunkin but. He was running giving David Shafer run I money towards the in a lot of negative ads there in the secretary of. State's, race bred Rathbun's burger, is ahead of David Bill Brett Rapids burgers spent a lot of money on that race I have seen his. Ads almost as much as the other guys ads he's, had very deep pockets to run rain very, aggressively I voted for Bill I'll I don't know either of these. Guys at all I don't, know Rapids burger I know Belle isle somewhat so I voted for him and then. There's this democratic race let me give you perspective, here this is the, only statewide democratic race of any note in the, state right now there are seven thousand six hundred sixty five votes cast thus, far in the state school super Attendant run off, for the Democrats between SIB Chapman and oglethorpe. Thornton is winning sixty forty seven thousand six hundred sixty five votes the Republicans thus far we, have counted. Thirty seven thousand eight hundred seventy three votes a. Pretty significant margin the other thing to note. Is that there's basically a thousand person drop every lying down the ballot. What do I mean by that well you have thirty. Seven thousand votes cast. For governor thirty six thousand votes cast for Lieutenant governor. Thirty five thousand votes, cast for secretary of state every ballot position down in the statewide racist for the Republicans has. Lost a thousand votes that is. Fairly normal the further down you go the more likely you are to. Be fixated, on actual candidate relationships and support there is not a ton out there right now now..

"Erickson this is WSB special election coverage for the. Two thousand. Eighteen runoffs I'm tempted to say Republican run. Off because they have gotten so much attention but in fact there are other runoffs out there. Around the state including a school superintendent race statewide. The Democrats battling it out there. There are other races largely, settled getting, myself in position here. Loading up all of the various websites you have to load to get the results the polls have closed as of seven minutes ago now for people who are in line they get to vote in Georgia it's you have to. Get there by seven PM devote in. Georgia and they put. A barrier behind the last person in. Line if it's heavy and no one can come in after that but they still allow people who are in line to vote and that's one reason voting can sometimes draw drag out in the Date is because of the. Delays and people standing in line with the polls closed that being said I. Have a hard, time believing we're going to see a lot of, those lines tonight around, the state. By and large because there was. Low turnout across the state all, sides a little bit frustrated, today by. The sluggishness of the return statewide I I went and voted this afternoon. I mentioned earlier I was baking a cake for. My kids this afternoon got on a, conference call my buddy Phillip on. The phone calls asked me what I was gonna talk about on the radio today I said it's kind of a slow news day I guess talk about the president and the farmers and, the tariffs and come up with something else I guess I'll. Do the Carter page story and he said what about the election Oh my gosh I, totally forgot devote I in I. Knew I was supposed to be on tonight until ten or eleven o'clock talking about it and totally forgot tip rarely at least about, the election it's just one of those things but the fact of the matter. Is, folks that we are going to. Have a very. Busy night here at WSB as we resolve these issues. In the election as, to whether it's going to be Casey cable. Or Brian guilt for governor the potential surprising upset may actually be. The Lieutenant governor's run-off between David Shaffer and Jeff, Duncan the, Schaefer team is very very nervous that the negative ads against David Shafer may very well. Have worked in Jeff Dunkin's favor they are and have been, for a while now Complaining and we will we'll see the helping shape. Up, now I'm going to if. You can fire up the call, me because I am completely shut down here technology wise everything has gone out on my end in studio I I'm stalling for time trying to get it all back up and running and it's not but I've got Greg blue on hold. And I want to talk to him about the lay of the late tonight Greg sorry to. Keep you waiting I couldn't, even see that you're on hold every single thing in my office turned off no worries here downtown. Athens giant Ford f. three fifty and his. Chainsaw Election party Along. With it so now I want to ask you about the lay of the land tonight because there I'm hearing from across the state turnout, was low which means we may have an early night and it seems like even so we may be waiting till next week with Fulton County because that's the way it. Always works but, I mean what are you hearing? Out there Running campaigns very very competent they think that they think the momentum had already shifted their. Way early last week and by. The time President Trump endorsed him, they think that's what it was the nail in the coffin cable and. You could even hear. It from your at, the the event as well obviously but. Grind camp didn't didn't talk much about there you talked about when she was already sort of pitch shifting his his island along game rather, than the Shortland so they're pretty confident you were you were at that event in it struck me that the line that really you could hear the murmuring the crowd was. Win Mike Pence, called Brian kept the real deal The subtle. Implication there yeah it, felt like a nice What? Am I story whether? You, did it knowingly or not.

"Turnbull it is your direction here news ninety five five am seven fifty and tonight we're going to review the election results statewide some real surprises out there you know i got a tip my hat to jim beck the insurance commission candidate he was not my choice by a long shot nor ralph hudgens the incumbent insurance commissioner and he was able to dominate the insurance commissioners race being one of the very few republicans out there in a multicandidate race where he was able to get through without a runoff we will have a lot of runoffs coming july twentieth some real surprises as well last night including just how close david shafer came to avoiding a runoff for lieutenant governor and the republican secretary of state's race one talking point that people are talking about today though is that the democrats were only fifty thousand votes short of the gop when it was three hundred thousand difference in two thousand fourteen and yet they're comparing apples to oranges a very different layout in two thousand fourteen and if you'll recall the democrats all but had a coronation in two thousand fourteen when you had david purdue on the ballot in a huge contested primary for the gop for the senate absolutely different and i do have to say there's a level of patronizing comments out there by the media who want to treat stacey abrams as a candidate with a legitimate shot and the reality is she doesn't have a real shot at winning the governor's race all the people who are out there doing the head pat about how historic it is yes it is historic the democrats georgia have nominated a black female to be their gubernatorial nominee who now has decreased the odds of democrats being competitive in georgia and his increase the odds of a republican trump voter backlash in the state nobody wants to talk about this they all wanna dance around it in the fact of the matter is this is probably what's going to happen the other big news of the night that isn't being paid attention to is the chamber of commerce in georgia a huge loser last night in georgia the chamber of commerce was across the state of georgia the conservatives challenged by the chamber of commerce save for one they all one and the one who loss was done in by local politics not by the.
