Miami Marlins, Jeter Part With Exec Michael Hill After 19 Seasons

"So I don't know what the hell the marlins did over the weekend because they seem to have their first good since what two, thousand three and we were all wondering what Michael Hill was doing still with that job early on in that regime, and now they finally have a good season and they don't bring him back now he's not technically fired his contract expired. They're not renewing it for people who don't know. Michael. Is the GM for the Miami Marlins and what are you guys billy what do we make of this? Like what is doing here where we finally have a good season and then we get rid of Michael. Hill I mean I think before the season no one would have been surprised if Michael, Hill, wasn't there at the end of the season his contract was expiring. You wasn't part of this regime. person they inherited kept. So they you know made them an offer they couldn't come to an agreement and that's it. Now, they'll bring in their own person and that'll be that they did actually make an offer that well. Let me give you some clarification on this because David. Samson. Actually talked to Mike Ryan during during the segment that they do that is always informative and he if you were listening to that actually. What happened is exactly what he said was going to happen which is the Marlins were going to make him You know I'm using this term figurative figuratively, but also literally a token offer because he's one of two black executives in the league with that kind of power it's one of the reasons that he was still there even as they gutted the entire franchise because it wouldn't have looked good and quietly during twenty twenty after a playoff season. They needed to look like he turned down the job. So David Sampson said it was an embarrassing. He predicted an embarrassingly low offer that Michael Hill couldn't accept and that would he would have to walk away from and so what they said in the press release is mutual parting of ways.

"I, was obsessed with the fact that this exists. I don't know enough hands the way they cute with one hand and when you look at all of them, even the ones who are not autistic are always Cuban. They've got using their hands in their flipping with them and playing them in there doing it. I found that fascinating. But before you let me go, I gotTa talk about the Eagles, the history of the Eagles it Dana's sat down at the perfect time Dan you get to hear David Samson's review of what we believe to be the greatest rock dock ever the history of the eagles style. You told me watch the eagles is Dan really they're stunned that he He didn't know about this documentary and of course, without even having heard anything that you have to say on the subject if Mike and I are telling you that it's really good. My guess is that you're really gonNA like it. You're not going to be disappointed bite even if there are unreasonable expectation. Yeah, I didn't even take a bathroom break during the three plus hours three hours fifty seven minutes including a forty minute concert at the end. Of the actual doc is about three thirteen. Let's say and then they do a concert I was fascinated by how the band was formed. I didn't know why they were called the eagles because they were tripping and one guy saw eagle where they were tripping and that became the name of their band watching. What happened between Henley and and FRY was fascinating I. Didn't realize that Joe Walsh was such. A drug had so many drug issues and I just didn't realize the drama in that band and I couldn't be happier knowing for while they have so many great songs. The documentary goes deep inside both old and new footage current interviews. Very sad watching it though knowing that it was filmed before Glenn fry passed away and. Just realizing that people who are rockstars they really sacrifice their lives to give us something that gives us so much pleasure. I get so much pleasure from music and I left that documentary. So thankful that these people were willing to do cocaine and willing to do things that are not great for your long term life in order to give me an outsized amount of pleasure. Thank you for that. The documentary is simply phenomenal. David. Samson host of nothing personal. "Their several cast members from citizen Kane who were born in the eighteen eighty S. How which blew my mind right thinking about the fact that it was from nineteen forty one and if you're sixty years old in that movie and there were plenty of older people in that movie they were born only twenty years after Lincoln got assassinated well so your takeaway from what is recognized. As the greatest film of all time my takeaway is that it does not make my top one hundred. The reason that does not is that I am absolutely prejudice against movies where I don't feel like it's a part of me is the same way how people look at my favorite movies of the eighties. People who were born in the seventies or eighties. Look at my favorite movies in. They say like say now most fire one of the great movies. You've got people watch it now and it just doesn't translate and when things don't translate it's like when you're on vacation farmland and you buy a piece of clothing that you think you love because you love it when you're there you bring it home you put it on you leave the house. Come right back in the house. Take it off and never wear it again. Like when I bought a cowboy hat when I was in Houston and San Antonio and then walking around Las Olas with a cowboy hat. You say wow I thought this would look better so I- citizen Kane's a great movie but for me it was not. It just doesn't make my list but I'm proud that I've seen it and I'm going to start watching some older movies. So I can broaden my cinematic arises David. I'm really upset that we have to let you go. It's a bummer. Because this week was good and I have so many questions. I'm glad we can agree at the end of this program. That you wearing a cowboy hat in Las Olas was indeed a bad. Look so David Samson. We will talk to you next week. Thanks Mike..

"And the amount of money and time that series people spent who couldn't come close to nineteen percent literally and Joe Exotic did it made me smile but in a way that made me sad. Yes do you think. Joe Exotic gets out of jail because it seems as though you know how. Oj Simpson finally went to jail for something. That was very clearly a setup but we were all just like you kind of deserve it anyways for previous crimes you got away with Joe. Exotic seems to have quite clearly set up here. It seems as though he was talking very flippantly about Carol in ways that were dangerous and certainly threatening but it never seemed like he actually would have the guts to go through with this plot to kill Carol especially pay Allen the South Carolina. Crackhead three thousand dollars to do so. It seems as though Jeff is the smartest of the bunch that's maybe carol who's very manipulative. Jeff saw an opportunity like some idiot savant to just read out Joe Exotic to the feds and get immunity but it seems as though he's GonNa get his self preservation is an amazing quality to have. And you don't realize how much you have until you need it. And that's what low did. Carol is a cult leader bottom line same as same as everyone else. Same Angle Her. Kalt is just as different members in it but I think he won't service twenty two years Joe Exotic. I think that he'll be back and it'll be interesting what he's rooting for now very hard. Oklahoma is corona virus. Because if you think about it. Nonviolent in inmates are being released and he would be one of the top candidates to be released if there were a outbreak in Oklahoma. Really so do you think murder-for-hire qualifies as nonviolent. He's really in there mostly for the Animal Abuse Right. He was convicted on all counts. But it's the animal abuse. That really is what what gave gave him that much extra time. Yes and it's sort of cruel that he's finally as famous as he always hoped he might be but he's in jail. I still think the Internet right. Yeah he's reveling in it. So one. More question on this euthanasia of animals that the Tigers the cubs those who are being killed or gastro. Whatever they're doing. I think zoos do that. I think that that happens doesn't WanNA research that today. Yeah if you have one hundred cats you gotta think the numbers one of them's GonNa get injured one of them's GonNa get. Ill might be the doing of just like the general setup of the zoo. We can't overlook that but these things happen the animals and you want an animal this suffer. So are we really we holding against him? They didn't do a good enough job explaining why exactly these cats died. I I wish that we had a better because it made it seem the federal government just makes it seem like jokes just felt like killing cats which I don't think is that the case. I'm sure there was a reason for this. Each cat was like three thousand dollars and we know Joe we know Joe Right. He's not gonNA put three thousand dollars under the ground right now if they attack him or they attack somebody or they attacked the other cats. Then maybe but he's not just going to shoot for fun. He shoots blowup dolls right. That's what he does not actual assets. Yes absolutely so. I'm glad you finally watched Tiger King I say finally because it feels like we've been in quarantine for months and months and yes but thank you to Netflix. And the filmmakers of Tiger for giving us such great entertainment David Williams. We'll talk to you next week and I will be reviewing Thailand. "More and we're back here on the lower we're joined now by David Samson. You can check out his podcast. Nothing personal with David Samson. He was at Moss. Miami on Saturday night. I WANNA WANNA talk to him about that want to talk to him about Matt Kemp signing with the Marlins but I want to talk about his podcast. Nothing Personal David Samson which I really like and by like I told Holdem is on Saturday. I'm not a huge podcast so I haven't actually checked out too many episodes of the podcast but I see a lot of the clips on twitter so I feel. I don't know if that's the same thing. I'm still promoting it. I still like it. You like the idea of I like it. I'm just not a huge podcast listener. But that's I'm sure why he puts out those clips on twitter so people still see it and take it in and I saw a clip. Yesterday it was very vulnerable very honest. It was very cool. Actually of David Cottages answering the question what he misses about being president and it was really honest and vulnerable. I thought he was going to cry at a couple of moments and you know. He said a lot of the stuff that you'd expect. He misses the players. The people he misses winning and losing every every day because now what he does he doesn't exactly get a winner loss everyday where he did with the Marlins but the one that I was most interested in was him saying that he misses the vitriol. He misses misses the the mean things that some fans would say and I was just interested in that. David is that serious. You genuinely miss people saying mean things to you. Isn't that strange. I spoke about that a lot as I've gone through this sort of transition out of baseball after so many years almost two decades in it and I said what I meant. which is that? It's the it's apathy that I always wanted to avoid and I understood what my position was much like. I understand the role I play on this show the role I play in everything I do. It's always a role it's it's an act right and so you end up losing yourself a a little bit in not actually knowing who you are. When by the end of my baseball career I would look in the mirror and I couldn't even remember who the old me was because I turned into into this character for so many so many years and I never actually minded the vitriol? I never minded the positives the negatives because I just wanted people engaged. I wanted to give people an escape. You know we're in the entertainment business whether you're in baseball or in media or doing a radio show or podcast or a TV show. We're just trying to to help. People get through the day right and helping them get through. The day is by them. Thinking that I'm the worst person in the world and that I've done everything wrong but it helps them feel better about themselves and I'm happy to play that role speaking of things that people say Billy Corgan kind of went in doing Miami wanted to give your opinion about what billy did during that night. Listen aren't Aren't short jokes. Just enough right. I mean it's yes. I'm short work. I really am especially for billy on smoked right. Like what's the big deal I still I don. I don't think about it at all I I've always live my life and I've always had fun. I'd rather be short than tall because I never have to hit my head on anything. So that's a positive and I never have to think about that. So so corbin just goes for the cheap laughs and I just. I'm not sure that he was funny. It's nice that he volunteered his time to host. MOTT's Miami but the thing about billy he's so oh he's a guy who's he's not that he has vitriol. He's just is so angry about everything in his life that he manifest that by by talking personally about people More specifically me so one of the things the reason I called the show. Nothing personal is that A. There's no need to be personal if you want to criticise aside every move I've made professionally. That's great talk about every trade. Talk about fleecing. The Miami politicians talk about baseball ball talk about sports talk about business. Talk about all of that stuff I just never. I never got off the way billy does on doing things personally the way he does speaking of which you you have a project that we're going to talk a little bit about it. He wants you know he's a Docu men Terry and I think he calls himself And you want to do a documentary on the whole marlins transition from us to jeeter the building of the ballpark. How that went down and I told him that I would cooperate because I I think it would be interesting for the viewers and for his audience? You know one thing about Billy outsell you. He is an unbelievable filmmaker He has the tea. Ah just I watch screwball and you realize you watch cocaine cowboys you watch. Is You know thirty for thirty years. That's what he does. He's damned good in his job and and I've always told him that and it's not it were enemies off the field. You know we spend time together my family. We took pictures with people but when he gets microphone in in front of people he feels like he has to have this persona whereas my persona can be the he'll be you know someone who can be made fun of and all of those things I get that but I would. I wouldn't really be personal toward him the way he is toward me David. I'm Kinda glad that you brought it in the direction of the ballpark. Just kind of talking about the project that you may or may not work on with billy down on the road last week we talked about whether or not you thought it was easier to run a team with a small budget or large budget. And I kinda wanted to talk not just about like baseball finances you know in general and also like small market versus large mortgage. So what dictates. What a small market versus a large market team is in baseball? Because it's not like if you were to look at media markets it's not that because Tampas you know inside the top fifteen Minnesota Minneapolis is in the top. Fifteen scenes like those are large television markets but small market baseball teams. Yes so we don't call it. Small market a large market. We call it low revenue or high revenue. Yeah and so. It's just about revenue and the problem with Tampa and the problem with Miami. There's just no TV revenue. You're talking about markets. Let's if they New York or Boston where they're getting tens. If not hundreds of millions of dollars in television revenue that they can choose to put into their teams Amos or they can choose to pocket in Miami are total. TV deal was you know fifteen to twenty million dollars a year competing with teams in our division who were one hundred two hundred million dollars a year. That's what makes us low revenue. Then you look at the gate revenue which means how many people are going to your games. And how much are they. Pain Tame to go to your game. You know we could always get people to come to our games for free or a dollar a ticket but that doesn't count it counts for them but it doesn't count as a lot of revenue so those are some big things and that naming rights and corporate sponsorship is the third bucket of revenue in Miami. Just doesn't have any it corporate clientele. There's it's nothing whereas Minnesota is a huge corporate town so their corporate advertising revenue is way higher than the Marlins. So that's what I'm trying to figure out like. What is it when you ran the MARLINS? What would the absolute minimum amount of money because a lot of things go into cost? Running Baseball team obviously obviously aside from just payroll you have to pay for the minor leagues you have to pay for. You know eletricity rent whatever it is you have to pay for vendors concessions. What was the minimum that you need to have to run a baseball team not including Major League salaries so like if you had one hundred million dollars payroll whatever like you obviously need a lot more than one hundred million dollars to run the team? So what what is it. Aside from like the salaries of the players it would take on average to run a major league baseball team. The best way to do the math is that if you're trying trying to break even which is the best we could ever hope for other. I think my eighteen years running team. We had a few years where we were able to to make a profit in which we used to pay down debt but the other years we ran at a loss. So if you were to calculate the general rule is that you're majorly payrolls. Payrolls should be no more than fifty percent of your revenue. That is a general rule. So if you've got a sixty million dollar payroll you need to somehow cobble together. One hundred twenty million dollars in revenue. And that's your best chance at at breaking even so I'm trying that's what I'm trying to figure out like a you've talked about in two thousand twelve when you saw that. The RED SOX series didn't sell out right away. You knew there was a problem. You knew that it wasn't sustainable. To have the hundred million dollar payroll and I think in the past. Also equated the number to this number of fans generates this amount of money so kinda wondering wondering what it is like. How exactly do you raise the payroll like? How exactly do you make this sustainable when you go out and you sign those players you know? I'm only I'M GONNA make a certain amount of the gate so is that you're signing the players hoping to fill out the stands knowing the money's not coming from the fans in the stands. The money's going to come from the GIA the all sponsorships that we generate as a result of increased attendance or a greater TV deal as a result of increased attendance. Like the money that you're putting in isn't to get more fans I mean it is to get more fans in the stands in the sense that will then offer you money outside of that right. Yeah there's two ways to do it and some years we would do it on the common. I'm in some years. We'd do it on the go and I mean by that is when we would increase our payroll we would say okay. We're willing to increase the payroll and take the risks. We're going to go to in two thousand twelve to open the new ballparks to one hundred million dollars to do that. We know that we have to get two point. One million fans at an average ticket price of forty seven dollars. Then they have to have a.

"ESPN radio all throughout the day shipping container filling in for Bannon's to God's today and we're joined by former MARLINS team team president in front of the show. David Samson David. Thank you for joining us. Hey how you doing. I thought we were not calling me that anymore. Oh she just wanted to go tavis. David Yeah sorry sparky host of nothing personal with David. Sampson joins US now. Thank you for joining us working. Hey how you guys doing good. I wanted to ask skew. Something so report came out a couple of weeks ago that Minor League Baseball might be contracting somewhere in the area of forty two teams. And I've always it's been curious as to how Minor League Baseball works in terms of affiliation with Major League clubs. Because obviously you have the same players coming up through the pipeline line through these minor league teams. So I'm assuming that the major league clubs pay for contracts and stuff but don't minor league teams also have minor league owners. That guests are in charge of promotions and stuff like that. Yeah and owning a minor league team is quite profitable because they don't have to pay for the players and this is not about contracting minor league teams there is such a bad. Pr Going on that. It's almost like the marlins. Pr People are in charge of PR situation. What's really happened is that there has to be agreement between Major League Baseball? Minor League Baseball and part of the agreement is what. MLB want is better accommodations for the minor league players. Better travel just better field conditions working conditions and better locations and if they contract team which they're not going to what they're going to do is make it so if a team is no longer affiliated with Minor League Baseball they'll they'll still have a team in that community but it'll be part of a different independently so it's not as though these communities like Bernie Sanders said in his letter to Rob Manford. It's it's not like these communities are GONNA lose baseball. That is unless the minor league owner wants to move the team himself so the teams would still exist. It just wouldn't be affiliated with Major League. Baseball's what you're saying thing he'll be affiliated with major league baseball but not with a Major League Baseball Team Independent Baseball does do pretty big business. I know that Savannah Bananas in his or a success story so these would just be part of Independent League's going forward. I guess if they choose and if they if well chosen for them it's all part of an agreement between MLB and the minor leagues and they're just beginning to negotiate. But what what what people have been hanging onto with this work contraction and then the number forty two. I guess gets Clemente's number. So everyone's all Jackie Robinson's number. I'm sorry so everyone's up in arms over the number but it's not really going to be forty team fit disappear off the face of the earth it we'll be. They'll be affiliated with a specific team but in a different league but so players remember guide. There's two hundred minor league players and every major league franchise and guess how many of them have a chance to make it to the big leagues out of two hundred. What would you say one hundred ninety to know if you have a great organization and I mean great fifty the other one hundred and fifty are man? You are people who are getting paid to be professional minor league players who have hero chance dance hero chant of sniffing the Big League Club House. I think the value and Minor League baseball though isn't that as pipeline to get the players because I mean you know a lot of these people are going to be career career minor leaguers. It's the fact that there's only really what thirty teams in Major League Baseball. And then you have states like California that has five teams Texas with to Pennsylvania with two. You have certain cities that have two teams so like having these minor league teams are the only teams at smaller towns. Get so there is value in that. I think when you're trying to grow the game of baseball because because you have a little town like you know wherever in the middle of Wyoming where you can find a major league player who may not be interested in baseball of his town didn't have a team. I mean that's really Nice James Earl Jones and I appreciate the sentiment and I'm really. I'm hearing over here. But they're in reality. If there's a player in Wyoming you can be a major leaguer. Scouts GonNa find them and bring them to a place where they develop major leaguers wards and Zach Lowe reported last week that the NBA is looking at pretty huge changes to not only the playoff structure with a seating in the conference finals. But also the introduction of a midseason. Fa Cup style tournament meant that separate from the normal game schedule. Whatever it is they decide on? What do you make of this house is GonNa fly with the NBA p. a. and is it a smart decision? I'm actually going to talk about this. Nothing personal today Later on today when I do my show because Jane Party came out publicly yesterday saying I. I don't WanNa play in the tournament in the middle of the season I want an NBA championship. So what Adam silver date here. The commissioner of basketball is. He talked about negotiations with the players. Union that are ongoing about shortening the regular season about actually increasing the number of playoff teams and lengthening the playoff off-season with a play in set of games. which is the most important picnic from all of these negotiations is at the NBA wants to copy mlb with that? Wildcard Wildcard play in game because every TV network wants to buy that from a League because People Watch Elimination Games and then the concept of the season tournament. It's trying to Redo the All Star game in trying to again get another. TV property that they can lead can sell. But if you don't have player by in you're gonNA have a problem. Talking to David Samson four MARLINS team president check out his podcast five days a week will. That's not what it's called. You can check it out five days a week. It's called nothing personal with David. Oh and he also is really into movies. He reviews movies with us every week on the local hour. David what movie or documentary reviewing today documentaries are movie. Maybe you don't need an or but here's what I did last night and it and it blew me away I. I've never done yoga. I'm a marathon runner. I love running. But there was something net flicks. They caught my attention. It was called Bickram Yogi Guru Predator so. I didn't know whether I had no idea what this was. So it turns out. There's a guy named BIC Rom who is knee. Yoga instructor of the world like he came up with twenty six opposes. And Tim breathing exercises and you go into a room where it's one hundred twenty degrees and you're wearing nothing but you're skivvies. He's wearing nothing but speedo. Oh leaving nothing to the imagination. Except he's got a little air conditioner unit on him alone he puts the microphone. Tells all these women and some men to do these anything so everything's going great. It's spreading around the world. He is rich and famous. Tea Is what Robin Leach started his TV show or and and that's not referencing. I apologize he was living a lifestyle of the rich and famous. It turns out that Vikram is a sexual predator. And with assaulting the women who would take his glasses and all these women came forward and now bickram spoiler alert fled the country because he lost a lawsuit and did not want to pay so it is a awful story about a man who had the power over these women like like a cult leader who is basically genuflected by all of these women genuflect in front of him and it turns out his main interest was not and helping them with Yoga it within helping himself to their body. Allow me to be a companyman here for a second until you supplementary. You should check. Check out the thirty for thirty PODCASTS. On bickram Yoga called Bickram. It is fantastic..

Oh you can't we can't link up you know what I think. Yeah yes absolutely lutely because my wife has an iphone in us. The only way that you won't be right now is like what's Happ what's up. I don't like what I don't trust what's sad to be said it had to be said what's up my phone. Everybody in my family has it. I'm just like I'm out on what's up. I don't need what's up. It's good like if you're traveling traveling on. Yeah because you don't get charged so you could basically be texting and calling and you don't get charged the fees since like with all the work that I do with Chelsea I have like almost all my Chelsea communication with the club and the agency in between is is exclusively on. What's up? I have to have business. You're going on your honeymoon if you're going to check in not that you would but like if you're gonNA call like a family like hey we're alive. We made it here like what's APP is. Yeah well it's the easiest way to do it because you don't have to pay crazy fees so I have an issue with what's up because when you go to like a public place and here Miami's different because we have a melting pot of different cultures right right but when you go to somewhere outdoors or somewhere where there's a lot of people around. There's always that one person like screaming into their phone on WHATSAPP and just like well. What is this person? I'm doing like they have the the phone on speaker and just yelling into the phone like well. What is going on here? Why are you not just talking to the normal person on the phone and then you realize it's a WHATSAPP message that they set for like fifteen seconds? Yeah not as horrible as being the person that says. Hey Download WHATSAPP. Because you don't have an iphone and this is the only way that we can communicate Roy Roy coming up next another best segment in which it'll be quality programming because that's the whole idea behind best out. It might even be better than the Ed Reed interview who who knows and will be followed by a straight talk right. So you're not gonNa WanNa Miss that Don card hold on a second. We've got one minute left in this segment. Can we have everyone including including Roy Roy dot. Yeah Buddy I actually do all of us at the time. It's going to be being John for one minute. That's because the shipping container is Hosting today while Densu enjoy an extended Thanksgiving holiday We've had some fun here. So far we are GONNA throw a best of segment coming your way in the very next segment and George. Donna will be joining us at eleven thirty to talk about the game that he is working sidelines for tonight. It's a pretty big game. It's Anthony Davis return to New Orleans. That game's going to be on. ESPN that'll be cool to reach out to George who spending Thanksgiving on Bourbon Street. which is awesome? Well Thanksgiving Eve Either way we've had some fun and we've worked in some sports but I wanNA talk to you about something that I've encountered at sporting events and that is on one hand face time. If you you have an iphone like most people do is amazing invention except for Roy because Roy is an anarchist that likes to make group chat screen. I mean it's the worst. I'm I'm close to not getting an iphone by the way what. Yeah I was told. Yeah I I'm getting a new phone and my wife told me that I have to get an iphone. I was like I don't know there's a good deal. And this other whatever galaxy s something and it was like three and I'm like going to get any that it's free and she's like no you're not because you're gonNA make it impossible to be in group chats. It's and then you can't facetime and I'm like facetime anyways. What do I need that for? You got to have an iphone. You know you don't know you're GonNa get a similar you revel in this as she won't. Have you really enjoy making the to do what's APP instead of facetime. What's the difference? The big difference in video quality. I'm like come on out of here so I've been told I'm not allowed to not get an iphone but I was close marriage right there on on on that but on one hand facing is amazing. This is the future the jetsons it's installed this about. This is based on that much. I mean I work with and laboratory. His primary means why is that. Well I I love facetime. I'm for instance like my niece and nephew. My nephew lives in Tampa. My niece new says live in Savannah Georgia and it's better than talking over the phone because they're baby. I mean I can't have really intelligent. Elgin conversation with them. So I like being able to see it in you know Goo Goo Gaga on my way around and it's cool see the progression week-to-week how you doing it's awesome but there's north but it's amazing. Do you use regularly aside from my talk. I feel like it's just like to talk to kids and old people like that when you're talking there across states dates and stuff like that let it regularly but like having it in my backpack. If someone calls me face I don't answer my straight up. Don't answer you don't need to see my face. Whoever this is your need to see my ear I'm not going to answer? I just also assume it's a dial. Sometimes I do the move where I'll answer it and I just won't give my face. I'll turn the camera on hates me. I'm not I'm not looking good right now. It's not a great angle. Anthony were to call today and it's a face I'm going to be like yeah. This is a mistake. Exit to bad mouth facetime. No no no well he is. Also Roy coming because at sporting events or also facetime is I feel like number one Goto. When you're drinking poison man Anthony's he's living in San Francisco we should facetime doing and you facetime them and try to face? I'm at a bar and it's just someone like in the bedroom unlike leaning forward and saying stuff to you and you can't really hear too loud. It's too loud and doing the song and dance for five minutes misapplied misapplied and you're you're bringing the phone receiver your mouth and he's like pointing at the it's it's.

"Shipping container rocking with you on a Wednesday boys. We we made it. We made it. Dan Texted us a little bit ago. This the shipping container by the way Dan Lebatardshow God's off today will they're supposed to be off today. Dan Texted me a few minutes ago. I always said you know what I'm I think I'm GonNa come in today and I locked the door. I said no this is our day. Nope you go start eating early because we know you love Thanksgiving gravy face. Yeah y just called buffets and also texted me you guys nervous. I was like I we do this every day. Right we do. You would on the local hour the local hour which is a part of our dedicated. PODCAST show feed. Yes we do an entire hour urges our own show and honestly Eh. Those five weeks had Dan was out. We were carrying a lot of weight here. I guess suge doesn't really change his role when Dan's out he just outsource because he's lazy but this was certainly a mountain to climb in the eyes of our bosses because this is the first time in. ESPN radio history. I have not fact. Check this but I imagine it to be true. The first time producers yes has ever hosted an entire show before BBB so naturally. Our bosses are nervous. They're not listening. The day before Thanksgiving excited man awesome my whole thing. was you guys. Don't listen that money because when when Dan's out we're carrying this right Oh man. We got so many topics. You kidding me. We'll make it rain topics. We don't need guest. We don't need bestseller which I'll I'll get to in a second because that was one of the rules. One of the stipulations for us doing this was at least one best sub segment and out. Okay and all right cool. We'll take the respite. Yeah I guess so. We put in a fair amount of work into getting some good segments that might make sense and sort of like a year end. best-of love if you will but them's the rules and I'm sorry about that. I'd like to just talk to you and bring on Dr K.. And just do the normal nonsense that we do on the local hour cursing very important no no cursing so we do the show out of the clevelander studio but every time we do the local our no one not a lot of people from TV setup are out here they are obviously not here although argue. Sometimes I said the other studios silence so it's very easy to you. Get locked up into the comfort zone of of this local our rules but no very strict guys yeah cannot curse no s words are GonNa make it through an entire show. He'll with no s words. I shoot for nervous. I don't seem to think this is a big deal. Other people seem to think that this is a big deal which is which is cool. I guess in the eyes as many this means something not to us but I think billy is one of those that this actually means something to because there's something a little bit different about billy. He hasn't even said a word yet really matter. Are you guys do your thing. I'm wondering why everyone got a text from Dan except me kind of confer uh-huh. Yeah so we got great segments coming and we also have guests that's right we're doing good company thing promoting Wednesday night basketball in the NBA. I I thought I was watching. What was supposed to be good basketball? Game last night between the Mavericks through I think we're on a five game winning streak. And they were playing the clippers. I wanted to see Luka versus coli and in and said I just saw the clippers. Wipe the floor with a maverick seem. That doesn't seem quite ready for prime time. But we're outsourcing. Don't even my basketball. Why am I doing doing the reality here? For this. I'm bringing on George. Saddam Gutierrez later today for their basketball team. You think part of the reason we're doing best those is because they wanted to make sure there was a good segment. Our maybe cross. I'm prepared to have a good one. This segment 'cause I got a great topic today is Thanksgiving Eve right. Yes asserted aren't why don't all holidays have. Only Christmas and New Year's Eve are things why isn't Thanksgiving Eve..

"Oh it's a long time coming so the only reason I kind of stuck with it is because I just recently closed on a house and needed to show that gainful employment Roy Moore longevity there and now that I have the keys in hand the processes in motion and You know the last piece of this is wanted you guys to get involved but very very quickly I do have a limited fake Andrew Luck if you have a moment for it go ahead. Happy June so I I also had another question. I was calling in. How many rings is appropriate considerate You know to to ring. If that's not going to voicemail I I felt bad staying on the line so long it just listening to it ring. Does it ring on your end or is it just black flashes. Okay Gotcha. Well Yeah so back to the job thing so yeah I am getting ready to give my notice Today will actually be my last day in the office. I work remotely tomorrow. I'm on vacation all all next week. So the Monday before Thanksgiving At our nine o'clock meeting I I wanna go ahead and let them know you know. Thanks but no thanks. I'm getting out of here and I was just wondering how would you guys quit a job. ooh I I would love to hear how billy would quit a job I mean did you have to you. Had to quit Victoria. Secret regret right. I gave my two weeks notice and I worked two weeks and I said thank you and I worked the two weeks and then I moved onto the next job. So how would you quit a job that you know. The the people are are are terrible. You're being successful but not really being set up for success. How would you get out of that thing? Well you know you you want to work in the future and people sometimes talk to pass employers. So don't you want it to end on a positive note like just because you have poor like bad thoughts about this place doesn't mean you WanNa have it on your resume that you curse out the place. Are you planning on staying in a similar field. You don't WANNA burn bridges. Business can sometimes especially if you operate in the same mm field like for instance we work in media. It can be a very incestuous business for instance. I'm terrified one day. My has will cross with a former program director Well well actually. They never will getting but either way. You WanNa try to do your best to protect some relationships because you never know who's going to be in charge when you're desperate very very true. I am staying in the same field this new opportunity that I have. I had it back in October. I've met with him several times. Gone out for drinks going for lines You know they. They didn't care about the the references from my past job You know I my my social media outlet leading. This is kind of embarrassing to say is Lincoln. I'm not on instagram. I'm not on Other than the professional shorties. Yeah so Hey that wasn't my. I beat by the way who beeped at me funding. I don't know what we can do with this call. It's probably going to be in the podcast but we're ruined for you okay. Well fantastic guys. It was it was great to chat with you Happy join and I will talk to you guys leaders hope. He's better than that. Angela compression because that was awful man. It's been it's been rough. Go of it today on the local hour. Should we just talked to David Samson for forty minutes goal today. I'm not really sure Roy. Oh I can save it. Yeah I believe that this NFL NFL trial for Colin Cabinet is a sham. Why are we doing this on a Saturday scouts owed? We're going to college. Athletes should be doing on Tuesday. They were really serious about this. It's a complete utter sham. That's just my opinion. Why is he tweeting like he was tweeting? It out like you know promoting it like. It's a good thing. If if he was skeptical of it. Why wouldn't he be like? I don't want your Santa more like a surprise but at this point he'll take he can get this is he's got his show that he just wants a chance. That's what he's been saying on social media and this is I mean as diluted a chance as it may seem now especially after for that information. It's still an opportunity right. It is accepts the main scouts for each team. That's GONNA tend or call the stadium so that means bringing underlings billings by have very low. There's job I think that's a little bit of speculation on our part we don't know exactly which each club is said. has sent out there. We're assuming that there's been travel plans set for college. But we don't know the actual particulars there. We do know that it's not no coaches head. Coaches are going to be out there because they got games to prepare teams on a bi week general managers. It seems as though this all got thrown together very quickly and there's some teams that are just sort of confused by the whole thing. I know the media's confused by the whole thing Colin doesn't seem to confuse by it he just seems eager for the opportunity already. This Colin Kaepernick now He's he's up there. I mean he hasn't played yeah. Is He thirty two only while he looks at thirty two. Okay just turned thirty so yeah I thought I thought might have been near thirty four so yeah. There's still plenty plenty of time for him so driving in today and it's raining and there's a bus stop but it's one of these bus stops that's the doesn't have any cover so it's just people bull sitting in the rain waiting for a bus and there's four different people and three of them had umbrellas and then one person is just standing bear in the rain and I drove by. I thought to myself if I was one of those three people. Are you guys sharing your umbrella. And that's granted it's someone you don't know so it's awkward if you share your umbrella. You're you're all of a sudden in this really close find space with someone you have no idea who they are. But it's just I feel like it's just common decency like I am. I the only one crazy I was driving by. I wanted to like roll down my window and be like hey let him in wanted to roll down your window not give him your umbrella. Why didn't have someone else didn't have have my umbrella? I actually bought one walking in. I'm saying that these people were jerks for not offering there. There is some guy. Just sit there in the rain. And they're just enjoying their stay. I'll all covered billy. You sharing your umbrella that spot with a stranger I mean we're also assuming that they didn't offer and he didn't say no right. I am assuming that 'cause why would he say no raining. He didn't have. It was like he had a big. I'd turned down umbrella offers before when I'm walking somewhere not that I'm just sitting somewhere but like if I'm walking walking somewhere and like my wife will be like hey get under the umbrella like Just because there was like a height difference between us. And it's like I'm going to get more wet trying to get under the umbrella rela wobbly. I'm hoping that he turns down my invitation. But I'm elise offering hope turned it down. I'm just saying like I've turned down before. Yeah at that point you need to take the umbrella to hold it for her. No I stay wedge. She takes the day walking in the in the rain except the taller person holds the umbrella person. Rela as for the most part if you're traveling short distance or an inconvenience often if it's not like pouring you're going to get less wet just walking to your car. Then you will opening the umbrella sitting down closing the umbrella. Having umbrella splash all over you. Then what do I do with his umbrella about. But Yeah I get more wet rela. Yeah I'm swift the foot so I'll sometimes just jog quickly to the car Opened up the door slide in. Close the door. You know what I mean but if I take the umbrella thing I have to open and enclose and then I got one of those upside down umbrellas that closes out when you push a button but then the water stays inside the upside down umbrella and then you move it and pours all over. It's just a whole umbrellas rela a whole thing so yeah I guess. I'd share the umbrella with the person right. I feel like we saved it..

When you're under oath you have to tell the truth so taubman will not be under oath? He'll be asked questions and if he's smart he won't say a word because you'll become completely unemployable by any of the other teams because Narcissus I just don't get hired if however he doesn't want to stay in the game or he thinks he will never get another job in the game then he's he has he should have no issue going going scorched-earth David. You mentioned steroids really quick and I wanted to bring to you a hypothetical that we had off air just to wonder what your perspective is. A team president would be so when a player test positive for steroids. There's an appeals process. Correct where they continue to play for a little bit. Yes okay so. I'm wondering if you were in the playoffs right you're in the world series and one of your players decides I'm GonNa Take Steroids and your entire team decides you know what we're all GonNa take steroids just for this playoff run we get caught will play through the playoff run. And we'll deal with the suspensions. After how would you feel as a president knowing you WANNA world series. But you'd lose your team for like half the next season well the reason that's a funny hypothetical as you can't take steroids on Monday and hit home runs on Tuesday so it doesn't quite work that way. You have to do a cycle quite earlier than October and by doing it earlier than October you'd be risking getting caught before the playoffs. Even start so you're talking about doing a drug that has this magical power that makes you better for that one month period of October and would I sacrifice at full season of losses in order to get a world series win this yes but I would do it from steroids Dan when I do it from a financial standpoint right where I would have as much as if I had the ability to have two hundred million dollars payroll over two years and if I split at one eighty the first first year and twenty two second year but I gotta run out of it what I do it. Yes so the next season lose one hundred fifty games. Would it be worth it. One Hundred Percent Bob Nightingale from USA Today tweeted that Scott Boras believes that the phillies earned enough money off the signing of Bryce Harper last year to pay for his contract for the next two and a half years. There's which is about sixty five million dollars because the phillies attendance increased last season by over a half a million fans which is up twenty six percent for them. What do you is that accurate? What do you make of those comments? I I appreciate that question He's so full of it and so wrong that it shows how stupid he is. He is literally financially incapable of understanding how to run a business. So here's the fact for every hundred thousand fans. The net to a team is anywhere between four and six million dollars net. What do I mean by that? That means you take the amount of revenue that you get from the tickets. Then you take away revenue sharing because you lose thirty three cents of every dollar you raise revenue for revenue sharing. That's the definition of revenue sharing. When I make a dollar I have to give thirty three percents away to the teams who make less revenue? Then there's taxes practice that have to be included and expenses that have to be included so the most that Bryce Harper. Let's pretend that every single fan Dan who came to the game came because of Bryce Harper so they increased by five hundred thousand people. Let's round up to six hundred thousand. More people came simply simply because of Bryce Harper then instead of four million per hundred thousand fans let's say the phillies are just incredible rights right and they get eight million eight million which per one hundred thousand fans net next that means that they have an extra fifty million dollars at most. GimMe a break. There's zero chance that everyone of those fans came and there's zero chance that every one of those fans were of the highest average ticket price fans those paying the most money for their tickets. He doesn't understand revenue-sharing he doesn't understand EBA ABADAKA which is earnings before interest taxes depreciation amortization he make statements that are asking for the sole purpose of in inflaming fans fans trying to pressure owners to overpay for his clients. So no you don't believe him. It's it's it's one of the funniest quotes in the heat. When he meets the media is quotes are so ridiculous but this one was offensive because he was trying to down smart in his other quotes not just sounds moronic and is but this one? He was trying to let his fans no or his players know that he has some sort of financial acumen. That of course he has zero Arro- of is there anyone on earth. You hate more than Scott bores. I don't hate that. That's a strong word. I don't hate him. I find him to be I find his uh-huh Mo modus operandi his way of doing business so deplorable. I find him so disingenuous. The whole situation with Jose is what drove me at the top and I can't forget it I won't forget it and how do you. I don't know how he looks in the mirror. So no I'm just GONNA eventually. I guess I don't think think we really got a true review from you on rounders. So your thoughts on this film starring Edward Norton and Matt Damon so editor. Edward Norton has a new movie coming out called Melissa Brooklyn and I wanted to bring out and Edward Norton Movie For you and it matched with the cheating Houston Astros scandal. This isn't movie about a gambler poker for players who loses his money and wants to win it back and get into the world series of poker and he's a law student Matt Damon and this is not a born movie. This is not an action. The movie this is a very sort of thoughtful movie about the lines. People Cross in order to take their shots and you know pre Hamilton. I I want my shot right. lin-manuel Miranda's this is what Matt Damon did. And the reason I loved the movie is that it it goes through the character development of a guy who is so down down and out and get some self back in by having to cross the line. Some people wouldn't cross and borrow money from people he wouldn't want to borrow money from. I'm and make money in a way that some people wouldn't WanNa make money and he ends up taking a chance against John Malkovich in one of the most underrated performances by John Malkovich of all times when he plays the owner of an underground poker room and Damon ends up going one on one and figures out how Malkovich keeps winning. And it's due to his oreos and the way he eats his Orios. That's the towel that Malkovich has. We can do. Spoilers movies that old. So the reason why canal conviction the orioles is so important. But that signifies is everybody has a weakness. And if you're smart enough and you're willing to hang around long enough to find it we're gonNA find minded and the people were successful. Pounce on that weakness perhaps rounders. An perhaps a weakness is the risk of losing their baseball team to San Antonio or Las Vegas. Well Done David Samson. We'll talk to you next week. Hey have a great week guys. Thank thank you prescription required online physician consultation and are only take the physician. Determines prescriptions appropriate for full details and safety information. One of the scariest things that can happen to a guy is that first morning you wake up you look in the mirror and you start to realize you're going thin top. Two out of every three guys are going to start losing their hair by the age of thirty five thirty five. You're still a young dude at that point you're GonNa Start Losing your hair then think about it a year from now. It's all gone in. Everybody used to think as soon as you start losing your hair. That's it. It's genetics. It's father time and there's nothing you can do about it. We'll.

"But a little bit staring at the screen and a little too stationary one in a little bit more movement from from oil on stage. You gotta be able to sing to this side of the crowd that's out of the crowd. And the other thing that he didn't notice as I give him a protest here. There's always a second screen behind you. Right. Because the crowd wants to be able to sing along as well. So what you do is you walk this way. And then when you turn around you look at the screen behind you like this, and then you turn back around this way and people think well, he just turned his back to the screen into the crowd as he turns an very, entertaining fashion. When all you're doing really sticking the screen on this side. It's pro tip right there veteran move. So David Samson joins us now to talk movies baseball. Whatever calls you have firm seven eight six four five six four eight three seven is the telephone number. He strikes you as a karaoke person. Right. "It's from seven ninety two ticket and Jay Wakefield brewery donlevatar where can we hurt their jeeter the most right in his wallet listened in? I'm obviously very fair. I'm telling you the way things are still God's all. All the all. I love this new character. Chris Cody as confused moral conscience in the back of the room. Why do you want to a hurt jeeter? He hurt me. I'm going to hurt him back. And I'm going to hurt him in the pocket book. This is our show with. Still guts on the ticket. We've got here. Some odds some prop bets say sportsbook is finally taking prop bets on the Oscars. We will ask David Sampson his opinion on some of those things in a moment. If you wanna talk baseball with David Samson movies, whatever etiquette seven eight six four five six four eight three seven is the telephone number. He's got he's got a movie to review with us. But I on the baseball front explained to me what's going on with Machado and Harper and collusion, that's not collusion. Well, it's not collusion. It's actually to player agents named Dan Lozano and Scott Boras, and they promised that they would get the most money for their player. So they cannot sign I so they're just if the game a chicken, and we all lose what did you do less night? Good. God is in your voice. So I actually have a speech to give today. And my voice is reflecting. The fact that I was breakfasting. I mean, you sound can you can we are Mike go ahead and get that laugh where it just it sounds like how someone who is a chronic smoker. Ends up sort of emphysema in their way to death. It sounds like Cody I mean worse than coating net. I would say it's actually has nothing to do with that..

"I think that that's a fair would say, and I'm and I'm close with them. And he by the way, one of my worst stories and baseball involves him one of the craziest stories of all time, which I'm happy to tell you, but I still speak to stand and text with them. And that's it tell us the Stanton's stand story is that he accused me of something pub in inside a clubhouse, and we had a fight. I've never been punched and I've got a mouth, and I've never been punched. And I thought that Stanton, and I we're going to actually have a physical altercation which would have been funny because he's three times my size. Well, what have been quick to it will it would've not only been it would have been very fast. Amy hitting the floor. You hitting your face with your own fist is how that wouldn't. It was brutal. He accused me of purposefully trying to put the entire team endanger by flying them on a plane that was not worthy of flight. Ever seen major league. They weren't planning was the was the plane that bad I said to him in a very loud voice in front of the rest of the team that I'm on that plane to and I value my life way, more than value yours. So the minute I stop fine on the plane who can start complaining right now. Shut up put your uniform on and try to win a damn game. Wait a second. David did did Sherman pay one point two billion dollars to be friends with Derek Jeter? Not just to be friends, but to have the ability to have it to get his cell number. I think that's what it was one to ten David Samson. Former Marlins team president with says spent the whole hour with us. What is your relationship now with Loria? You know, we don't talk all that much. He's you know, he used to be my stepfather, but he's not any longer only in that. He he's not married to my mother anymore. But we used we spoke every day for eighteen years multiple times a day. And obviously he's now moved on. And I've moved on. I just I sit home alone in a house all day doing nothing in my underwear. And he does you know, he buys Artan does stuff. So we talk so he buys her. That's what he's doing. Now. Where does he live is he para somewhere travels has got places in various places, he's got places that have places, and he's got people who have places and he's got one boy two billion dollars. What's the angriest? You saw Laurie over something Marlins related. Oh, God when I can tell you the year we won the World Series. When he demanded that we release Kevin Ohlson. He was so angry about Kevin Olson, then I remember thinking to myself who could be that angry about a guy who is so bad. Right. I mean, you should be angry about he was tasers in his front yard. No, not Scott Olsen. You're thinking. Scott Olsen talking. Isn't that a fine? Where's the sound effect for our? So that's it. It's just me saying too. That's even better production value. That's we don't even need a sound for that. It's. Evan Olson what was so angry about 'cause we had a pitch him. And he said he won't doesn't want team with Kevin Ohlson on it. Now is in two thousand three it was bad hit a twelve seven five yard in two thousand three and. Why were you pitching him because you were not available? You made that huge splash in the winter meetings. And I think a lot of the players sort of knew what they were getting into new that if things didn't go right immediately. They might be shipped off. But they were happy to get the contracts. But it seemed as Mark Burleigh was kind of upset at the deal. Was there anybody that ever got legitimately mad at you for trading them. Even though you gave them the contract that they should have known. What the deal was. Let's talk about Mark Burleigh because he's a guy who I was close to and I was very close to his wife, and and I was very honest with them. And I'm the one who called him to tell him. He was traded. And I told him that he was being traded to Toronto, which is the equivalent of baseball hell for tax reasons for passport reasons for just all sorts of now that Montreal doesn't exist because you ruined it..

"David Samson, the former Marlins steam president is with us. Now, what do you make of all of this rebranding? I wanna talk about the rebranding the Marlins doing the need to rebrand by spending one hundred million dollars in the outfield. They had that. And then they got rid of it. The thing that it's going on there doing this release of of logo and they're changing ho ballpark and all the colors. I get it. They want to separate themselves from the past and a new start. From you. And jeffrey. Well, if you're going to be specific, I would say. Let's not let's talk about that. That's to setting talk about right? I'm sitting here in a dark room trying to imagine the new colors. And here's the thing. Dan. I want the Marlins to succeed. And I want them to be good on the field. If the reason no one comes to game, his because of me and Jeffrey, then I'm glad that we're gone because now that we're gone that means that everyone should start committee. What? We'll see what happened. What is the thing that they have scrubbed in terms of trying to separate this regime from the previous regime that has that has bothered you a little bit to the extent that you would be bothered is there anything beyond the statue? You know bothered is strong word. I I'm not bothered by it. I'm smirking at it. I think they we spent a lot of time making it a beautiful ballpark with with thoughtfulness when it came to colors and be Miami. And what they're saying they want something more Miami. And we tried to attract the Latin Hispanic culture in the sand surrounding the the old arguable sites. But again, the issue must've been me not the market and that is great news for Miami. And
