"Nature. But generally speaking, I felt that, you know, folks within the game are okay with it in a way that I didn't expect. What about you? Yeah, that's what I've heard too. I was watching the Jason stark Doug lanville starkville podcast the other day and they had Joey Votto on and Jason, our dear friend, said, you know, Joey, you're kind of a deliberate hitter. You like to back out and Joey likes stopped Jason right in the middle of it and said, look, I'm taking whatever they give me, okay? But he said, if you need me to be ready in ten seconds to hit, I'll be ready in ten seconds to hit. And I think the same is going to go for our pitchers. Eventually, they're going to figure out they're going to have to speed this up and they're going to have to go faster. And I think they can do it. I know they can do it. If they are forced to do it, if there's a penalty involved, if there's a balk involved or a ball involved, they are going to make sure that they deliver the ball in the right amount of time. I think this is worth a try because all we hear about is there's not enough action and there are games with last too long. The players themselves need to recognize and I think they do that our game needs an adjustment. And I think it's coming. David Ross, the cubs manager spoke to us before the game, not surprisingly, because I can remember those days when he was catching for John Lester and he Lester would start to gripe about the umpire. He'd go out to the mountain and he'd chew Leicester and say, let's go. Let's pick up the pace. David Ross told us in a pregame meeting that he absolutely believes that an enhanced pace helps the pitcher. He feels like that it makes the hitters on the defensive, and it was interesting to me that Gabe kapler, when we went over and talked to the Giants manager before the game on Sunday, he felt the exact same way. He said, look, when I face those guys who work fast and he mentioned Mark Burley, who's famously one of the fastest workers of all time, he said, I felt like that those guys were throwing down hill at me. Like they had some momentum as they went along, I know when this conversation started at the outset, a lot of the people complaining were actually pictures because they felt like, look, I need to do what I can do to get ready to throw each pitch. We're seeing this generation of relievers who come in and throw 1500 sliders, they'll circle behind the mound and they'll take time between pitches. You know, folks that I've spoken with last four or 5 days really believe that this could actually turn out to be a good thing, not only for pace, but actually for pitchers. Yeah, and to Sunday Night game, we saw how quickly weighed Miley worked, which was great, and it helps the pitcher I totally agree. And remember when Eduardo said on the broadcast, he said, these are the guys that drove me crazy. Not just a soft throwing left hander, but someone that worked really fast. He basically said, I enjoyed getting myself ready for it at bat. And if somebody is going too fast, I didn't enjoy that. I think the hitters could be affected even more than the pictures, like you say. But again, some of our really slow work and pictures are going to have to make an adjustment. Otherwise, they're going to be in some trouble, but again, facing trouble, they will adjust. So after the Dodgers won on Sunday, the in theory, they had clinched a playoff spot. That's what they were told. That's what we were told. I saw pictures. They didn't see video of this, but I saw pictures with the Dodgers toasted each other because they clinched a playoff spot, which at this .10 straight years in the postseason isn't that big of a deal. But then we got word yesterday from Major League Baseball. Oh, wait. Sorry about that. They didn't actually clinch into the Dodgers clinch last night. Have you seen anything comparable to that in your time covering baseball? Well, I'm actually not shocked that that happened. I did game with Roxie Bernstein the other day on the radio, and he was with Dave Roberts doing another game. And this is not a criticism. Dave Roberts did not know what the Dodgers record was going into a game. Like 90 and 40, he didn't know what their record was because he doesn't care about their record. It's just, it's the biggest cliche ever. The only thing that matters is tonight's game. We have to win tonight. But for a major league manager to not know how many wins they have or not know what their record is, I found that interesting. So that kind of connects to what this is all about. They were going to clinch tonight or the night before. It's no big deal. Ten in a row, I get it. I just remember though, I've told you this story buster. The Orioles in the mid 70s were like 50 over and they lost a game in September in Kansas City and they're leaving Kansas City to go to another city in Earl weaver growls to no one in particular. He said, damn, it's hard to stay 50 games over 500. And that shows you how few teams have ever done that, but Earl knew every record every game of whatever was going on. Dave Roberts doesn't, and that just means they're not worried about whether they're going to win a 116 games. They just want to win the World Series at whatever comes first comes first. So you know Ben walker works for The Associated Press, right? Of course. Okay, so he's in the middle of this story I'm going to tell you from 1998 when he had the Yankee team, which was running away, he had a huge lead. They finished the season with a 114 wins and 48 losses. The regular season, then they blitzed through the postseason. They finished with a 125 wins. The Yankees that you're applying the Mariners in a series at Yankee Stadium. And I remember this very clearly, it was a Saturday afternoon game. The games played the ballpark empties out and all of a sudden from the front row of the press box, Ben walker says out loud, I think they clinched a playoff spot. And I was like, huh? No. That's not right. I don't think they have. And then he explained because the Mariners are the rangers and some other team. We're going to play each other. It was a guaranteed loss or something like that. And he was right. And nobody knew it. Nobody knew the Yankees glitched to play off spot that day on August 30th and nobody knew it. And so my story the next day was to a sleepy Sunday morning was to greet the Yankees that came in the Clubhouse and say, hey, congratulations, Scott Rosie. She made the playoffs. What do you think? But no one had figured it out until Ben walker started going through the math and the press box. Well, first off, no surprise that Ben walker would figure that out. He's smarter than the average bear. And yes, look, when you're clinching at the end of August buster, when we're talking about magic numbers at the beginning of September, that just that kind of takes away your too good at that point. And I think it takes away some of the drama, but that's great. And only in baseball can somebody say, hey, those teams are playing each other. Somebody's got to lose the Yankees are in. Yeah. And by the way, it made for a challenge in writing an artful game story from that Saturday because I had to write that the Yankees made the playoffs, but I didn't have any player quotes and no reaction from anybody. And this is before the time when everyone was texting and Ed cell phones. Before you go, when I ask you about Mike Trout, who's on this unbelievable role, I feel like it's a little bit like the pools run at the end. I'm happy for Mike Trout that he's reminding everybody here in these last 7 games, home run in each of these games, a chance tonight to tie the record of Homer's neat straight games. I'm happy he's reminding everybody, yeah, he's still here and he's still pretty good. Yeah, he's got 35 homers in 365 at bats, just put those numbers together. He is still the best player in baseball.

"On the men. Look, you know, it's not very often, especially in Sunday Night games or typically you have two of the best teams playing in each other. Where you go into a game and you feel like, you know, team a has no chance to be team B, but that's the way it felt. Like watching the double header play out on Saturday with a Dodgers dominated, even without getting that many hits, going into the game on Sunday, knowing walker Bueller is going to pitch, Marcus stroman, gets scratched, COVID related, we're assuming, and you just look at the lineups. Look at these teams. And the Dodgers are terrific team, incredibly athletic, so dynamic, great offense, great pitching, et cetera, but the cubs are really bad Carl. And I must say it was a reminder that when the cups are bad, it's very different than say when the Red Sox are bad. Like the home crowd, I think they understand. This team is going through a retooling rebuilding process. They're coming out. They're filling the stance. If the cubs have a big moment, they'll cheer if they have a bad moment. They kind of shrug their shoulders a little bit. I think they get what's going on. Well, yeah, that's a good question, because it's a hard one to understand. What's going on? We've just won a World Series. We had three huge name players. We're not willing to pay them and we decide maybe it's kind of a time to move on from Rizzo and Baez and Brian. But money shouldn't be a factor. We have a good manager, so, you know, that's an interesting one that people would understand what's going on. There are certain places. You know this very well. There are certain cities where that type of rebuild is like forbidden. You can't go there. And a lot of me thinks the cubs have kind of moved to that level. Like, okay, they're in that same conversation where bottoming out. And I know the Red Sox finished, but last three times a year in the last ten years, I get where they've been, but it didn't feel like they were totally tearing things down when I saw the lineup last night, and you don't see wizard minute or swindell that you're like, those are now the familiar names in the cubs lineup. That in itself seems a little bit strange to me. Yeah, Carl, I think that you're right, the cubs should be in that Echelon of teams that never rebuild or tank or whatever you want to call it, but that's where we are. And Tom Rick, it's the only one who can really answer this, but I'll absolutely believe that that's directly related to what happened during the pandemic, 2020, they had the real estate around the ballpark, which they invested in. They weren't able to cash in, according to folks with other teams I talked to, the cubs were certainly conveying to other teams that they were very cash strapped. And so last year, they trade off all those big names that cut their payroll way down. This year, it's going to be another cut down season. Wilson contrasts will be on another team when we get to the trade deadline. He's going to be dealt. You know, maybe Kyle Hendricks will be dealt. If he can pitch better than he has early in the year, wade Miley, who they picked up during the off season, he's going to be dealt the relievers who are actually doing well like a David Robertson. Those guys are going to get flipped the way that last year we saw Craig kimbrell, Ryan tapera, Andrew chaffin get traded. I think it's going to be another cut down here for the cubs. And next year will be the year you'll start to see them take a big step forward. That's disappointing. You know, I don't think it should be that way, Carl. Take a look at the cubs, run differential is I think -20. They scored 21 runs in one game. So you're -20 with a 21 run game. The Dodgers, on the other side, they're a plus 74, and they're blowing everybody else up. The Yankees are second and they're 25 runs behind where the Dodgers are. You know, you talked a lot Sunday Night about say a Suzuki. And it's like literally we're going to just spotlight, this is the one positive on this team. Great guy, big story, where's 27th for trout, sake and all that stuff that was shared with the executives, you know, he had to be sold on the weather and Chicago and the climate. How do you now bring him in and say, remember Kyle Hendricks, and remember Wilson Contreras? Remember we kind of promised this great city. This atmosphere and we won a World Series a few years ago, it's now your team like it's your team. How do you explain, how do you think that conversation goes? Yeah, and a year or two, it'd be interesting to ask him about that because he's still in the honeymoon phase and the story you're talking about. It was very funny to hear David Ross relate that to us in a pregame meeting where he said that when they were recruiting Suzuki, that was the big question they got back. Like, tell me about the weather because I don't want to play in the cold. And so Jed Hoyer generated all these charts on the weather and compared it to Hiroshima where Suzuki had been playing. In other words, look, it's not that bad. It's the same as you have there. And the weather as you know in the northeast upper Midwest, the spring has been awful. And so Suzuki, who is just early in trying to learn English a couple of weeks into the season, stop by Ross office, ductus heading the door and looked at Rossi and said, those charts you gave me, this was in English. Those are BS, except which is the first sign of English. And that's what David Ross said, oh, that was Jen Hoyer's doing. So they're getting a laugh out of that now, but you're right. I'm sure that Suzuki's watching this play out. I wonder, hey, what happened to this team around me? They do believe that he's going to be the centerpiece of the team as we move forward. He got off to a great start. It's clear the league is making an adjustments to him. Last night, walker buehler didn't even throw him strikes. He's like, I'm going to spin the ball out of the zone off the plate, and you're going to chase it. And he did. Top of the zone off the edge of the zone. And so now the question is Suzuki, will he make the adjustment, you know, by all accounts in a Mike Trout chimed in last night in a text message that he'd been talking to Shohei Ohtani, ohtani was talking about a great hitter is he'll figure it out. But Carl, they're going to need a lot of help around him. I was going to say. I mean, the other comparison when he talks about wearing 27. Mike Trout now has Otani and Rendon and ward around him and the angels. The angels are playing great. You know, a lot of the conversation buster so far this year has been about the two teams in New York..

"If Kurt Schilling gets in this year, it really bodes well for a guy like John Lester. Not necessarily in his first year eligibility, but much later, maybe towards the end of his eligibility. You got to witness this part of his game, which I found to be fascinating because I've just seen in you have seen a lot of players. You know, an issue pops up and they and I really don't mean this as a criticism. I mean it is an observation, a flaw will develop in a player and they melt. They don't know how to deal with it. I don't remember another situation comparable to what we saw with Jon Lester in that he clearly had this issue throwing to first base the industry, other teams began to focus on that and try to take advantage of it. And man, he battled. You know, he didn't ever clean it up. He never got past that, but between he and David Ross and Joe Madden and Anthony Rizzo, they battled. I thought that was a cool part of his career. It's a great example of what you said earlier about his toughness. He attacked that sort of with this mentality that it wasn't going to beat him. Okay, if he gave up the stone base, he was going to strand him at second base. But even better than that, buster, he found ways to keep that guy at first. Listen to these stolen base totals off the top of my head. When he came over to the cubs first time in the national league of league where you're going to run a little bit more, he gave up 44 stolen bases his first season with the cubs. It went from 44 to 28 to 19 to ten, four years later. That's what he gave up on the bases by the end of his run with the cubs. He figured out a way he varied his time to home plate. You're right, David Ross, Anthony Rizzo and later Wilson Contreras certainly helped him out that in that department. And then he was able to pick off I forget the cardinal he picked off and that really set the tone because he actually did throw over there and now everybody had it on tape that he was at least willing to do it and he really attacked it with that toughness. You mentioned, one other point I want to make regarding that towards the end with the cubs especially, his skills were eroding, right? He didn't have his fastball. His cutter wasn't even as good. He remade himself. He reinvented himself several different times. Even this last year with the nationals, a 5 O 5 ERA, and then he goes over to the Cardinals and has success there winning his 200th game. Several different times, he went into that video room and found his flaws and fixed himself to go on a little bit of a run. Then he might have that he might come back down to earth, figure some things out and go on that run again. So that's where that toughness came in. He didn't let those deficiencies beat him or define him late in his career. His career comes to an end in the midst of a labor stoppage, the owners locking out the players. You know, I wonder about this for John Lester in the same way that I wondered about it when Kyle Seager announced his retirement. If we had a normal off season, right? Where there was business taking place and contenders were filling spots and everybody knew for sure when spring training was going to open when the season was going to open. I wondered when Kyle Seager retired, you know what? I wonder if he would have continued playing, maybe not as a star player at the same salary, but if he would have continued playing if it was just a regular off season and he could just go about his business and stay in the same rhythm. John Lester is the same way. I mean, we saw at the end of last season with the Cardinals. He could be an effective pitcher. Yeah, I don't think so he was breaking down last year was the first full season in like a decade. He didn't reach 30 starts. He told me in the piece that I wrote, it was just getting harder and harder between starts and certainly in the off season to prepare for the regular season. I don't disagree with your sentiment. The game is right now unhealthy off the field, labor problems, and it's a little bit unhealthy on the field. We know it needs some changes in terms of the rules and the flow and the pace. So with those two things combined, I could see how there be some players a little down in the game might call quits. And John's case, I think it was more physical than anything. And he also offered this up to me that the pandemic opened his eyes, he's home with his family. He's enjoying his kids a little bit. So maybe without the pandemic, maybe a physically, he felt a little bit better at 38 years old. You might be right. But certainly the labor strife and the issues on the field in terms of just the flow of the game and everything. It certainly contributed to some people in their sort of negative feelings towards the even the game that they love and that they get paid a lot of money for..

"Because and the reason he says this is because they heat according to where they extended offers to all those guys specifically the accent an offer to rizzo earlier this year. He said it was below what he was looking for. He rejected kris bryant. I believe it was two or three years ago. Maybe it two years ago said that. I'd never rejected an offer. I never got one. you know. so it's kind of like a. He said she said kind of thing. As far as bryant goes But hoyer is trying to make these guys. I feels like the scapegoat right. Is that for like it's their fault. We had to tear it down. Is that kind of what it feels like to. You know no not to me and and specifically when you look at at Kaby situation kris bryant like we knew he was gonna leave as soon as he got the chance right. They did him dirty with his Service time manipulation and everything and so there's been bad blood there i think for quite a while and i just think that he employs his performance is suffering so bad that i think that there was a major culture shift when david ross took over not that it was been terribly bad. Just that it's been a major culture shift and for you to you know to now be in charge of your buddies is hard right that way in the military right you get your with all your buddies and get promoted and now you're in charge of all them and suddenly the dynamic changes is different so i think there's some of that going on but i think there's been bad blood with kris bryant the whole time. I think that by is could have been a cub for the rest of his life. I'm terribly confused by that one. Yeah other than his desire to go. Play in new york with his buddy and then i can't believe they let rizzo go. He's like their ultimate franchise guy. Yeah yeah that. Shocks me i mean. I'm literally aghast at rizzo. Leaving chicago I'm i'm honestly surprised that the guy who stayed was wilson contrary as that hold. No kidding wilson controllers. They could have moved him for. I mean pretty much the same load that they moved those couple of those other guys for. I mean he's he's a great catcher few catcher's arm i feel like he has or the athleticism because he can actually run catcher so no doubt about it and he met his he can gun you down to. Who's yeah but but no. This was that like i. I did feel like kris. Bryant was gone like you said there was the whole thing with his service time manipulation and his agent is scott. Boris he was was. He wasn't going to let him stay for anything besides like i don't know i don't know that he was looking for. I don't know that he's looking for bryce harper money but up there you know he's going to be looking for ten to twelve years where it worth three hundred some odd million dollars..

"Everybody was distracted. I don't know why probably because the all star but also very clue is really close. Tomorrow is the last game of, uh Of the first half. And I don't think that way. But, um I don't think we were on today really hard, special Leave. You want to win. You want to fight for for anything that that is in your control. Also, we are have to understand that business of team effort. I'm just gonna keep doing my job. The way I played, it is not going to change. Uh, does on everybody's, uh, work ethic and and job. We had to. We had to tune but also I can No cannot, um Ask everybody to play like I do or to play to play like like bison. I play everybody is different and not the they might be tired, But I mean, I'm here to win. I'm here to win. I'm here to compete, and that's what I like to have from from everybody else. We have an attack starts right now. I think we had to be turning around. But like I said, tougher, it's not. It's not individual for. I think the biggest thing that I took away from that. Or the biggest question I took away from that was When you single out yourself and Harvey What are you saying about Kris Bryant. And what are you saying about Anthony? Result? And what are you saying about Nico Horner? What are you saying about Ian happ, everybody. And what about Jason Heyward? What about like, Say what you want about J. Hey, he's having a terrible year. Statistically, I think he's always playing hard. Is it? Is it the outward emotion that he's talking about that Javi and Wilson are always running a little bit hot. Do you know what I mean? And and when they they are pissed when they they show the emotion that maybe some of the other guys don't outward. There's no doubt that I mean, I agree with that. Contreras plays hard. I don't believe there's another catcher in Major league baseball that has caught the number of games nor the number of innings that Wilson could. Tourist has caught your right and I think that Willie plays the game exceptionally hard when you start to When you start to focus on yourself and separate yourself from the rest of the team. You're you're you're treading in dangerous water as far as I'm concerned. Like and I would hope that If he's going to make these comments publicly, he made these comments privately to his teammates prior to making them publicly. I think you're always better off suggesting, you know, Speak of yourself. But don't talk about anybody else, Right? Like when you seclude yourself as playing heart legs are different than the other guys. What are you saying about the other guys? Kris Bryant has also reacted to this. I have not. I do not see this and I'll tell you why. David Ross also wasn't happy with Willson Contreras. I think the answer is pretty obvious. But Cubs fans what did you think about what Willson Contreras said. Was that a good thing? Were you happy to hear that? Or are you saying Well, why are you isolating yourself and having? And what are you saying that they do? Pitch. Foul that's back to our right out of play into and out of the top dead babies about to throw pitch number 25 at this pace. Pitch into the fourth inning. One of the things with Zach Davies that's been challenging for David Ross. Is he struggles third time through the order one of those guys heavy third time through the order penalty to to Out off the plate, and Molina continues to hang in there. It's a funny thing, right? We for the longest time we talked about pitch counts. And now we're at a place where even the pitch count isn't quite As important as where you are in the order in the lineup. And then how you're pitching, right? Because if you've been so, so, and you're through 70 pitches and the third time through the orders coming, you're out of the game. Really? To to outside and now it's filled up quite a battle between these two. That's 26 pitches thrown by Zach Davies, 13 balls and 13 strikes book to your point. You also take those factors when you're talking about a national league team as well. But I love is what's the score? Where you at? I mean, there's so many more little variables that can get factored into Pulling a picture or trying to keep him in there just a little bit longer. The hugest the hugest deal the most hugest huge as deals at twenty sixteen team. And so then i went through the list. It's like okay. Who's going to be like i. Love hockey is totally absolutely fantastic. Rely initial thought honestly was david rami to cable. Why did you discount on him. Because i have reasons. Because he didn't he didn't play the cubs. Two seasons yes. That's why that's why. Yeah but and then the fact that he stuck around and he's the manager wins and other world series as a manager. Totally different situation. isn't it. yeah yeah. He's he's definitely in the congress for sure. Yes agree with you. One hundred percent on that but also throws a kris bryant. He was like the guy. Yeah we're bringing him up and we're gonna win the world series. Yes you know he was. He was the golden child that was propped up on the pedestal. Yep by the franchise. Yeah but he's going to leave. He's going get he's leaving. Yeah yes that's why he can't be on there that not only that but he did not have the leadership role. No rizzo had no. But i'll tell you what that david ross homerun is a big deal. Oh man and forty years old after a rain delay. No ever and became in to substitute. Yeah oh my word the bench. Gnc leaving one of the best years asphalt a pass ball to he will went up was like really trying to make up. That homerun considered david ross because of his role on that team and his current role with the cubs. But it wasn't as impact was anthony. Result is right. I agree with you know. that's amazing. Dude it's awesome. I don't know if we're going to four. I know and i'm really worried about.

It could get ugly times. It could get really messy but i think something needs to be done midseason or not. You should have seen tim last night. during our broadcast alex rodriguez pulled out Some of the spider. He was trying to handle it and demonstrate. How pitchers use it. Essentially as a lever To increase spin raid but watching him during the commercial break put his fingers into the spider tack and then try to extricate himself. I get the feeling that they would almost have to bring in a surge in to get that stuff off his hands. That's unbelievable stuff. Yes kevin connors. Did that during our game. The other night He was our play by play guy and he didn't use fighter tack used something far less sticky and it was revealing. How sticky was on his fingers. E couldn't he couldn't get a piece of paper off of his fingertips was great and any that wasn't even spider tax. I just i just don't know how you can take such sticky substance. Put it on a baseball and command that baseball. But that's why they use it because they need to be able to control a baseball. Just think they've gone too far. It's just like david ross. Told.

They want respect. Yeah. And I think there's I think there's a part of it that his family feels disrespected by the Cubs and the Cubs fans over the last couple of years, so that will play into his. Yes, I don't think he's like I know he loves playing here. I know. The Cubs Are Sitting Pretty in the NLC
"They can look at the division. Tony you look at all the teams that the cubs have to but up against dan. We haven't seen a whole bunch of the squads in the central be. You know they haven't made a whole bunch of moves during this off season and in the cubs they're in that basket as well so when it comes to being competitive in the division right now. I think jed hoyer and david rawson as well as myself. I think everyone is of the mindset that this cubs team they can go out there and twenty twenty one and compete no matter what a yeah i think so for sure i mean you look at this division in every single team. All five of them has gotten significantly worse on paper going into twenty twenty one compared to twenty twenty you know the the reds are losing. Trevor bauer who. We talked about earlier in the podcast. I think you traded rozelle glossiest the angels. The potential transcending gray like who knows. We'll see some of that archie. Bradley was it was another pitcher. They acquired at the trade deadline atop reliever for them. He's gone cardinals. Have lost a lot of veteran guys as well. The pirates are trading away. Anybody of value right now in the brewers have you know declined to options are not options for guys like ryan braun and and so on so yeah off five teams really right now. Don't look better on paper than they did last year. But that doesn't mean that there's a wide open division for the cubs to go claiming i think right now the cubs have one of the best teams on paper. They have a manager. Year finalist david. Ross they have all those poor guys in the mvp candidates that we talked about before that if there are bounceback season from a couple of all of those guys than this offense is in much better shape than it was last year. So i think the real big question is just pitching for them you know. Where does the pitching come from from the cubs but yeah i think right now they can compete certainly with any team in the division

Manny Machado finds comfort at shortstop as he prepares for his next big move
"Well david ross one of my all time favorite people he was as a player he's even more so now that he's been our team may for a couple of years and i've got the sit next to him many times on baseball tonight and in the poof and he's absolutely hilarious and unbelievably inciteful not just about catching but about the game and of course clayton kershaw is thirty years old today may where the year's gone but you've been on this for years buster this guy is one of the great pitchers of all time and he's still got a long way to go to just pad those numbers which have been absolutely spectacular to this point and i don't see him in any way going away now that he's getting older at age thirty i think the way throwing the ball this spring and with some injuries and some postseason issues over the years i think he's truly committed to being a best picture in the game again of course and being great in the postseason yeah i hope he checks last box and wins world series at some point because i'm kind of tired of that conversation but every october seems to come up because the dodgers don't win the world series manny machado we talked about this recall ravaged the other day manny machado is having a dominant spring training what have you heard he's been great buster because he's a great player period but i know the move to shortstop is good for him and it's even better for the team good for him because he increases his value even more that as a free agent if you want him as a shortstop and why wouldn't you then he will prove to you this year he can play shortstop every day defensively in the big league and if for some reason you wanna move back to third i'm sure he can do that and the only issue with manny machado over the years is every once in a while he loses focus he kinda goes over there once in a while but i was told that when he's at shortstop is natural position the responsibilities at that position are so much greater than at third base with relays and run the infield and everything else that machado's focused gets eve gets better when he played shortstop so i expect him to be a great.
