"Yeah, and then that's where you have the gold post movement. I've had people try to argue with me that the warriors were Tang. Like they're not fucking tank. They were just terrible tank before the beginning of the year. And they're exactly like the number 7 pick is exactly the middle that tagging is supposed to avoid. The whole theory of tanking is that being merely blow average is the worst place. You either want to be a championship contender or terrible. But plenty of great players are drafted in that win. It's just, it's just you know. And then and look at what the warriors did. When clay got hurt and they weren't any good and curry missed a big chunk of the year and they got the number two pick and like James wiseman is probably terrible. Brad, I mean, he's a non fat, they're back. You know, the warriors are right there with Phoenix and maybe Milwaukee is the favorites to win the title. And James wiseman hasn't played one second this year because he's heard and even when he played last year he was very ineffective. So it's a perfect example of like, you know, maybe you get really lucky in this scenario and you know David Robinson gets hurt for the whole year and you end up with a number one pick and you pick Tim Duncan. All right. It can happen, but there's no evidence that that's any more than just the random luck of the draw. No, that one drives me crazy too. So it's like I'm not like the spurs were like a nearly 700 team and they're supposed to be so less. I completely concede the point. If you have a 700 team and could like, get a number one pick and add it to that roster. Yes, that will work. But that's a completely useless sound like that's not like a team building strategy. And another thing it's interesting to bring up the spurs because that just occurred to me, right? I mean, the spurs were terrible, like the reason they got good in the first place was because they drafted David Robinson. And then he went to he had to spend a year in the navy. And so they were terrible the next year, too. Right. And that is not a reproducible situation. Right..

"No disrespect to him, of course, but like, look, there's some things that not even he can't overcome. I still think that they have a shot if they play 80 at centerfold to make the play. To me, to make the plan. I think, listen, I said on our free season podcast where we had like kind of a whole SI gang together. I said I would not shock me if they went out in the first round. Howard Beck thought I was crazy, shot to back absolute legend. It would not shock if they went out of the first round. I still think they can create some problems with I mean I could try to look up the numbers when I'm feeling lazy, but I think AD it's a 5 they've been it's workable. And I think that they can maybe figure something out. But that also means stop closing games with THT. 100%. Okay, let's move on to this email from Kerry, who writes hello equally talented, open floor crew. Love the love the podcast and have for ages. My question who is your most embarrassing favorite player? Emma wolves fan and the first person I remember them drafting was Isaiah Ryder. He is definitely my answer and was my favorite player until KG two years later. Thanks for your potting Carrie. Carrie, this is an amazing question. Great question. Great question. I'm curious, Rohan. Did you have did you have to think about this one or did you just know instantly who you were going to go with? I had to think about it in terms of like Zach Randolph, I don't think is embarrassing, but it's like maybe you're trying too hard to be hipster, you know? But yeah, I wouldn't say I had to think about it too deep. Okay, so I didn't either. So my favorite player I've said this many times before on the show, my favorite player growing up is David Robinson. Not embarrassed at all about that. He's incredible. Love David Robinson to this day. There were times during the David Robinson era when he was in San Antonio, of course, where my allegiance would shift to his teammates, where I'd be like, you know, player X is now my favorite player because he's not him, but my guy Avery Johnson held that belt for at least like two years. And so much to the point where our family growing up, his middle name was Avery. My parents let me give him the middle name, not the first name. Good work. Good work. And so that's how much I loved Avery Johnson and was a huge fan it's like when you're growing up you're trying to find players who you can relate to on the court and it's just like someone who can't hit a jumper who's really sure who's just not turning it over, but not doing anything that great, that was me. So I really saw a lot of myself in Avery Johnson and I am very embarrassed about all of this. So that's my answer. So what's your answer? So for me, my first exposure to the NBA was a 5 or 6 year old booting up NBA courtside on the N 64 with my brother..

"In my opinion after your to do over you were done with it and you on to the next but we had the opportunity to three peat and my mind. What brought you back to go to stay for year. Three was just the opportunity to three peat. But i it didn't feel right for you know more. Am i right wrong. That's interesting because a lot of people. That's just the talk around me. The last few years and i get what people are saying. If that was the case i wouldn't have played seventy eight games that year. I just waited to the end of the season and try to play in the playoffs. I play every game. I went hard every day. I cared about every matchup no matter who was on the floor. Just my look at phil is like energetic or open as it was before and i liked it. I liked that. I was closed off and focused on my work. As maybe communicated more people who are interested in knowing what i was gonna do but i had the most fun lock in and and and completing the task you know what i'm saying because i knew he was going win every night. That interview is fascinating as we welcome back. Marc spears. Now that we're more than two years removed from katie support from the warriors. What's the state of the golden state right now. You know what it kind of reminds me of the san antonio spurs you know. They had an unfortunate injury. David robinson and then they get dunkin and then they get tony parker and then they get ginobili and eventually in stores it winning five championships between nineteen ninety nine and two thousand fourteen and i think what these young guys wisemen commingle moody that came with some unfortunate.

These previews little short man. I'm i'm piecing this together now. I don't like previews all right. Sorry about that cap. Go ahead all right. Don't worry about slightly just so everybody knows. I've got a horse running del. Mar watching it on tv g right now. They're about to just load up and go in. I got the one horse at four to one and laura. Because last time i had a horse running. You gave me a hard time. You're like dude. How could you not have a wager on your own horse. I just bet on the horse we lean. We're gonna win. And i'm gonna tell you right now. We're now they just opened the gates. And now i can tell you as a matter of fact. We're not gonna win. I don't think we're gonna win. Got off to a bad start where last we saw. Okay reminds you horse we horse. There's no we in here. Yeah it's a me horse and we're in last place and there goes that money that you pressured me into betting on. I didn't to bet me while. I'm gonna blame you just a little bit pleased. Can i just blame somebody myself. You bet and you gamble take the gamble and you know you law so that. Yeah i mean we're in dead last place right now. Maybe we'll make a run here at the very ship. Picked the better horse. Bet against myself david. David robinson you wanna win money. I'm like if you want to win. Money ben against the horse. Hey look here's the thing about. David robinson i'm with you. All z. he was never a cultural icon. He was the admiral he was the guy who was the navy guy. He was the guy. That was mr all american guy. That's david robinson was. He never really became to your point. A cultural icon. He's a great player but he never elevated beyond and and listen versus shamlan. I would have to take. Dave robinson is being the underrated warrant. Because you just talked about the six cents. Do that was like in the late nineties. So yeah i'm with david. Robinson is the underwritten by the way we finished fifth terrible. Ouch cap josh. Allen signed a massive six year contract extension today with two hundred fifty. Eight million dollars with one hundred and fifty million guaranteed. It comes out to about forty three million dollars a year which is two million below the mahomes deal at forty five and and three more than the deal at forty a year. This will keep them in buffalo. Through the twenty twenty-eight season is this spot for him overrated underrated. Well let me just comment on what you just said. Most recently which is it will keep him buffalo through the twenty two thousand eight season. That's if the buffalo bills are in buffalo. By that time. I mean because the bills are now doing what everybody else has done around the nfl. They're threatening to move if they don't get what they want biggest stadium in the smallest market and they've had a hard time putting a lot of people into it as for the contract itself. I think josh. Allen is one of the young up and coming superstar quarterbacks in the nfl. Honestly i watch this kid playing college. Because he played in amount west at wyoming and. I didn't think he was really quite as good as advertised around draft time. He's way beyond exceeded the expectations. Because he's not. Just a stereotypical six five. Two hundred and thirty pound dropback passer. He's got a lot of the moves of the modern day type quarterback and so i think he's going to be a big star. He's already taken. The buffalo bills and in my opinion changed a lot of the perception around that franchise so for me. This is a really good deal for him. And i think that it's I think that it's underrated i. I don't think it's overrated. It is definitely underrated for two reasons. In my opinion number one to cavs point you know buffalo's floating notion that they may move and with moving they may actually sell. And it's a lot easier to sell your franchise if you have the face of the franchise locked in in other words you you. Purchasing a commodity that is well known and beloved. And when josh allen head is tremendous run last season and postseason he became somewhat of a fresh face. That people gravitated towards. And you can build branding around knowing you got that. Lock dan for a few more years makes purchasing a franchise if they were to be for sale much more attractive. And you know they don't sell it and makes them just attractive to the next city knowing they can build around local hero josh allen but also number two six years man hundred and fifty million guaranteed and three years one hundred and fifty million might just be ten million in terms of how much money would be what the new price point would be in the market value for. Qb of his age and of his talent so not only was it smart for the buffalo bills to lock them in for that long in the event they do move decide to sell but also is just smart in terms of if we don't move and we don't sale we don't have to worry about trying to match an offer three years from now.

"Hall of famer and my friend and partner. David robinson david robinson is a basketball player. Yes that was a basketball player. Yes i would say. That is accurate. You can't refute the fact that he was an nba hall of fame basketball player. You can't refute the fact that he won two gold medals while playing on the nba's dream teams for the for the us olympics. There i guess the was the nba's dream team. It was a dream team. Us olympic team comprised of nba greats and he was one of those players selected. Yes does own. Part of the san antonio spurs but beyond that david robinson is probably had more success off the field off the court off the sporting i- outside of the world of sports than he had inside the world of sports. Think about that. I mean he was one of the top basketball players of his generation. He was a center. Enos there's ladies listening and guys listening or maybe not huge sports fans. But he was the center for the san antonio spurs and when he started when he was drafted by the san antonio spurs. He wasn't allowed to play those first couple years because he had to. Sir he was he went to the. Us navy academy the us. The united states naval academy and he had to honor his agreement to serve his country before he was allowed to actually step foot on the basketball court. Once he did step foot on the basketball court he joined the team that was known for losing a lot the san antonio spurs and he transformed the organization inside and out on the court and they won a lot of games but outside of the court. He really took a proactive approach towards being involved in the community. Since retiring from the national basketball association and being inducted into the nba's prestigious hall of fame he has started a company called the admiral fund and investment fund called the admiral fund and it is generated massive net worth academy sports. The san antonio spurs the omni hotels the center plate company i go on listing off all the companies in the portfolio and but he has had massive success so during today's interview. I'm asking david robinson how do you. How does how do i. How do you the listener. How do we build a brand. That represents excellence like he has done. How do you personal branding. There's so many books out there about personal branding. But how has he been able to build up a personal brand based upon excellence most people when they hear the name david robinson they think of excellence and class so that is going to be. The focus of this interview with david robinson's any further ado. So whether we want to or not when people hear the name david robinson they hear something right they immediately get your a visual or an attitude or perspective. That comes to their mind absolutely in all of us. This is true then so some of us are known nationally known locally some of us are known within our neighborhood but we all stand for something in we're talking about is how to stand for excellence and david the founder of apple co founder of apple. Steve jobs famously. Said we don't get a chance to do that. Many things and everyone should be an everyone should be really excellent because this is our life and your mind what why is it so important to be excellent because it inspires people it draws people to you it gives you credibility expand your influence and your your community. There's a lot of reasons to be excellent. The the problem is that it's not that easy to be excellent and it's not that common to be excellent so but but certainly the benefits will outweigh any of the cost of being excellent. What about an entrepreneur. Watching this. And i say i am doing something. I'm not excellent at it. And i want to do something else that i'm not really excellent at and i kind of want to do something else and so we look around and go. Wow i'm pretty below average in all these areas. Would you encourage me to then focus on one area where i could be excellent. Or how do you. I mean is it important just to choose. Maybe a few things that you can focus on to be yeah absolutely being jack-of-all-trades and a master of none is is i think a negative okay because if you can do a lot of things then you should be able to do one or two things very very well. If you're naturally gifted jack-of-all-trades major next naturally gifted at some things. But that you just had committed yourself to working towards the to towards those things so i always encourage people to focus. Find out what you're really good at. Find out what you like what you think you have your most potential end because there's always signs that point towards one thing over another but you can't you can't multitask. Everybody talks about that. I don't think that that's a real thing. You're we all gifted in certain areas. And i know almost no one who's gifted in every area so it's the best for you to find those one or two areas where you can be excellent where you can be the best and zone and go ahead and work on those and just to make sure the people watching this our understanding well times. We hear steve jobs and we say well he started apple and he ran pixar and he say and will we don't realize that he ran apple for a long amount of time. We're talking fifteen twenty years. He's focused in one area and then he went into the next venture for years. And so when we look at your career when you go on forbes and you and you look at your age venture takes a certain level of commitment to be excellent if i was think about. I don't know who who said it. But i was thinking about if it's worth doing it's worth doing in an excellent way so for me. If i was going to play basketball my goal was to be the very best basketball player. So i committed time energy focus towards being the very best basketball player when i opened the school. I said i'm going to open the best school. So we got the right teams together. We spent the time in planning and putting it together and bringing in the right community partners to be excellent. So every venture as i started my private equity fund. My partner came from goldman sachs. That's the gold standard in private equity in capital. So i said let. Let's be excellent. Let's put together a team that is going to do an outstanding job and i know what my talents are. I bring my towns to the table in each equation but but excellence is my goal in each area..

A second superstar and bird had a of hall of famers. Magic had a cast all of famous. Dr j. one hit will dr j. didn't count because he didn't win more than one but jordan obviously at pigeon i mean we go on and on down the line. They don't get in other stars. Dunkin didn't juno tartu not for all of their hall of fame. But why david to pop and had pop. Obviously you have david go ahead. David david robinson david robinson was still a top player. When duncan got there and they won their first rink. Second would rob was a big compromise but then they have partures and ginobili. Now i'm agreeing with you. I was but i think he doesn't have that. That's the now middleton. I do think we'll grow in stature overtime. Like i look. Janas is not jordan in that. He's not the closer and all that stuff but middleton is a middle does not pippen because he is the closer right and pippen wasn't but as far as the way pipping grew in stature. Right pippen pippen's career early. All his start was very similar to middleton's unheralded. He was but he averaged seven points early. Fourteen points middleton developed the same way and then as he got better and began when the championships with mike then he became this superstar and mineral. And i think his stature will grow and grow and grow and people will begin to really give him the respect he deserves. But that's why you have to lean towards too because there's so much basketball left for it's abroad. James thirty six. He'll be done in a couple of years. You're on his twenty six. Would you push back. It just extends the conversation. Yeah yeah it foments exactly but the other is. I don't want to do this to my family. They can say they can say whatever they want about me. I don't care but not my husband not my children. My grandchildren my dad not my siblings. You know so so when you when you're going to be the first at something you have to figure out how you're going to deal with these kinds of issues right and so for me. It was like okay. It is what it is. And i'm going to go do this. The other part is this notion of balancing family right The notion of balancing family to me is is one of those things. If you have a partner spouse you know significant other you know hoti the two of you talk about that and then you know if you have children you know how. How does all of that work because It it just can't be on one person or another. It has to be a team event. In fact one of the things that i talk about david and i talk about all the time. We don't say it's david robinson it's team robinson in in team robinson you know figure out how to do these things so we figured it out over..

"You remember the nets steamrolled through the second and conference finals steamworld they went eight for eight they swept the Boston Celtics they swept the Detroit Pistons and so there was this sense of wow we're good now like wow we're really really good and the LA Lakers get knocked off by San Antonio and at that moment remember what the spurs were at that moment we knew Tim Duncan was great obviously it was the last year of David Robinson but they weren't a dynasty yet they won one championship and one championship was obviously the lockout shortened season in which the be the next so I wasn't scared of San Antonio but I think going into that series I still didn't believe I was going to see it now that team was the closest because they're too to win an NBA finals with game five in their own building the first finals game I was ever able to go to but when it comes to paying I think this is different obviously for Joe and I don't know how it is for everybody else it's now getting worse the more recent it is and I think why twenty fifteen is now every day that goes by the Mets losing the World Series in twenty fifteen is climbing the ladder is because every year that goes by you start to say S. eleven senior championship is the eleventh seeded it like it just it keeps moving to where you start to feel more pressure like okay this is gonna be the year that it doesn't happen now it's never gonna happen so I think the two things that jump out at me the most would be or the three things would be one of the jet title loss is probably the Steeler won the third of the ones I witnessed you know in nineteen ninety eight I'm I'm fifteen years older than I even today that I don't come back next year the Steelers loss that we are at the NBA finals with the nets being too too that's the moment and blowing game six NBA just collapsed in that game and I cried like a baby when it ended and the twenty fifteen World Series the twenty fifteen World Series get worse by the day it was by the day and it ignited me because the other day I read a tweet I even know who sent it about how many innings the Mets lead in that World Series and it's just you think back to it you say oh my god the Grimani these games though game two probably not to check on a no hitter going in the fifth inning from us they can and I just lost it but the show won game one they obviously won game three and I believe game for game five they call these games so as time goes by I think that that's where I.

NBA Storylines Down the Stretch
"Doris Burke is an NBA analyst for ESPN so doors the All star break is over and NBA. Games are back. We wanted to talk to you. About what surprised you so far this season. And how you see the last couple of months shaping up as we enter the homestretch before the playoffs. Let's start in the East right where there is an unequivocal number. One team in Milwaukee they have the best record in the NBA and they are destroying teams winning by an average margin of victory of more than twelve points per game now of the eleven teams that have had a double digit margin of victory over the course of a season. Eight have gone on to win it. All Doris. Is there something that stands between Milwaukee and the NBA Finals? Yeah this is a great question. So in their eight losses the one thread that is consistent throughout those are teams are averaging sixteen point nine threes and philosophically. Their priority is protect. The paint. First and foremost they are so elite. At that that we have not seen this kind of rim protection in the modern NBA. With the possible exception of Spurs team that had both Tim Duncan and David Robinson but the fact of the matter if a team gets hot and really can create shot opportunities then. I think that they can be beat. The other thing that happens is your and you saw in the All Star game. Jaanus is the first player to go twenty five and eleven back to back all star Games but he was over to note points in the fourth quarter because they did playoff teams. We'll do they set up a wall and they said somebody else is going to beat us so well. No one's really doubting the bucks at this point. I think there is still a lot of skepticism about the number two seed in the east the Toronto Raptors. I mean after losing finals. Mvp Kawhi Leonard. They were not seen as favorites coming into this year yet. They have the same record right now that they had at this point last season doors one hand the raptors have been under five hundred against winning teams but on the other they had a lot of. Are we underestimating them? While I'm definitely giving them punchers chance to get to the Eastern Conference finals and a punchers chance to come out in the past historically particularly when Demar Derozan Kyle lowry. Were on the team together. What we knew was they understood how to win in the regular season but they're always seemed to be this level of doubt in their minds when the calendar turn to April but the fact of the matter is. They changed that a year ago with championship. There is a different feel a different presents a different countenance about the entire group and yes unequivocally the record versus plus five hundred versus minus five hundred is concerning but let's remember that their top six guys including Serge Ibaka. Who's having the Best Year of his career? Kyle lowry Markelle Saul Fred Van Bleed. Norman Powell Pascal them. All six of those guys have missed at least ten games so I don't know that we have the clearest picture the other thing working in their favors they have one of the best coaches in the league. Nick nurse wears that head coaches mantle with ease. Why because he's been calling the shots for the vast majority of his career. In any number of circumstances his creative he's fearless. He's a little bit irreverent. And I'm telling you mean ah I give them a punchers chance to get to an east finals and a punchers chance to get out. Did you see this coming at all? Doors not even close and this is the question really ultimately. Do they have enough offense in what you're seeing is to me. What appears to be this grooming of Pascal? Ceac him of all right. You gotta go get your own in those minutes and a playoff circumstance where you don't care whether it's a mid range to a fall away jump shot a jump shot under duress of excellent defense. What matters is I need to put the ball in the basket right now because this game is teetering on our control or there's and we've got to have one and you're watching Pascal. Can he deliver in the postseason? He's been excellent in the regular season. I can't wait to see a play out. I think it feels right now. Like you've got the bucks in a tier of their own and then you've got the raptors celtics heat kind of swirling around each other. There was a feeling ahead of the trade deadline that the heat could vault to that number. Two spot perhaps even contend with the bucks if they really went all in and added Gala Nari. They didn't they did add Igwe Dolla. Do you think that's enough? You know the the last prism through which I saw. Andre Gonzala was a man who was battling an Achilles in the playoff series and seemed to be showing the signs of some age. But what I know. Unequivocally is this man from a basketball intellect standpoint. According to Kerr is one of the smartest in the history of the League. He has got championship. Dna He's got positional versatility on the defensive end that basketball intellect and the ability to process information quickly and to do it under the spotlight of the playoffs. He has all of that. I'm anxious to see how he changes the dynamic the Miami Heat. You know this. They're going to play hard defensively every single night. They're going to mix in one of the most effective zones we see in today's NBA and Eric's bolster is outstanding coach. So right now sitting in that fourth spot how far Jimmy Butler can take them. That'll be interesting. Those young guys. Right Duncan Robinson Tyler Hero Kendrick Nunn all those guys who have performed so well in the regular season when the calendar switches. Can you win with them? Let's see

Spurs drop 7th in row, longest skid since Pop’s 1st season
"Have hit a bumpy patch in this season would be an understatement the spurs a loose in the on our nation's capital tonight to the Washington wizards one thirty eight to one thirty two that is seven losses in a row that is the most since the nineteen ninety six nineteen ninety seven season that was the season before Tim Duncan came to town that was the season when David Robinson was injured and out for the season and the spurs had a rough season that year the first of all the lost nine of their last ten if you're counting so if you you looking on the standings I have the last ten now that will now say one and nine for the spurs in their
Danny Green, Rockets And Golden State Warriors discussed on The Jump
"Suckle Spurs 'cause they host the rockets and the first part of our double header on ESPN tonight. And I really got to read you Gregg Popovich told MBA dot com about these three point explosion in the NBA over the past decade and mind, you they're playing the rockets tonight. Here's what pop said, quote, I hate it. But I always have I've hated the three for twenty years. Now, you look at a statute after a game in the first thing you look at is the threes if you made threes and the other team didn't win if you don't even look at rebounds or turnovers, you don't even care. That's how much impact the three point shot has. And how it's evidenced by how everyone plays since he's basically saying that all the final points of the game kind of fall by the wayside. If you can just bury the other team in threes degree. I do agree. I mean, I think that's been a huge advantage for the Golden State Warriors. Oh, that is three seasons is the fact that they've been able to shoot three ball better than any team in the league. And we've seen teams like Houston news emerged a little bit. And now, we go the Milwaukee Bucks who's taking the most attempt. So the three ball is the way that the game is going, and if anyone can speak on this coach pop can because I'm sure he's probably losing a little bit of his coaching field with guys shooting of all it's more of a mobile free flow game. Now, you know when I played in the Lee three point shot was important. But it wasn't that important in today's game. I you've got to get up almost five threes a quarter. I mean, or are you gonna find yourself behind your member of very hot night in San Antonio? When Danny green was raining in really high and raining in more three. Threes air conditioner was. This. I won a championship enlarge perfect 'cause they hit threes. I I would just say to pop maybe go the beer Beck. He's been he's been cranky. And he's been by the way, he's been cranking long before he saved through today back. Great thing we all do. But he also said that he doesn't think the game has lost its beauty and that same interview. I disagree. I think the game was beautiful. In fact, his mentor Hanky gin who was his coach at air force. I had a conversation with him a little while ago. And he said, you know, he he's the coaches a sixties. He goes game has never been more beautiful. So pop get a bottle of wine. Go see coach Egan. About the beauty of the game. It will be great for everybody. Well, I I agree with you on that point for sure I do I do understand though that there is room for the nuance of, hey, the bludgeoned the hammer of the three pointer one thing pop has been so great at over. The decades is finding all those little untucked corners of the game to get an advantage. And it's been fun to watch him do that. And those just aren't is available anymore when someone can come sweep you along with the three point shot. He's definitely lost. The Is it's. some of that when you have two hall of famers, David Robinson and follow with Tim Duncan? Those God made that three point line, very fruitful. That's what he is missing. So when when you don't have that that that magnet there the force that defense to droll in yet at three point shot does become a little bit more difficult. So he definitely don't have those big that same way short.
Odell Beckham will report to Giants camp on time
"Talk about other wide receiver. Odell Beckham junior was back in March. Kinda felt like man is a really good chance that Odell Beckham junior is going to hold out as he seeks a new contract. He's gonna play this season under his rookie deal. It's gonna pay him about eight and a half million bucks, but he showed up for many Cam. He participated in most of the giants off season program and word is he is going to be there tomorrow when the New York Giants begin training camp. Here's a Jordan Renna on ESPN NFL giants reporter on sportscenter last night, talking about what Dell showing up the giants training camp means he's doing all the things giants. Ask them shown up minicamp showing up to OTA's. Now he's going to show up the training camp. Look. He had an option here Khalil Mack. Aaron, Donald day matrix differently. They may not show up for their teams. Adele, this guy wants to play football, right? He's a football player dying to get back out there. So he wants to get out there during training camp and he's putting the ball in the giants court and saying, hey, look, I'm doing everything possible to get this deal done. I want to be here, right? I'm doing whatever you guys asked me. I want to be in New York Giants. Let's get this done and there's really hasn't been any serious negotiations so far to this point Odal Beckham junior getting a report to a giant strain cabbies obvious coming off a year where he had the broken ankle only played in four games that remains to be seen, how much is it going to practice? Will he be on the field on Thursday when workouts begin? Is gonna play in the preseason and do the giants get a deal done with him during training camp historically. And obviously there's a regime change in New York, but historically, when the giants do these things like they did with ally manning these things take place behind closed doors, they don't typically, you know, show their cards. Regards to contract extensions, what they might do a certain players. So does this get done? It's a very good show of good faith by Odell Beckham, junior. If you're giants fan, it's like, dude, get it done for for as as much as del Beckham, junior Camby, quote, unquote distraction, and it's been immature before the whole, you know, going boat before the playoff game a couple of years ago with a bunch of his teammates and getting into fights with with Josh Norman, dude, Odell Beckham junior's one of the best three wide receivers in the game. You're not going to get anybody as good as him. You're certainly not gonna get any better than him. I'm not a big fan of saying, look, pay him and move on, but of got to do that, right. I mean, if you're the giants and you kinda going to go through this transition phase at some point where you move on from ally manning, maybe not this year, but at some point in the future and you've you've gotten saquon Barkley and you're looking to make a rebound from last year when he went three and thirteen Beckham junior's marvelously talented, he is still just. What twenty twenty six years old. His first three seasons in the NFL were historically great. Get it done, get it done, and the fact that he has shown up or gonna show up and be there for the beginning of training camp. That's a show of good faith. You have to reward that get the deal done and move on. And last podcast. Carmelo Anthony is the new rocket man. He's going to be a member of the Houston Rockets how many of us remember his time with the Atlanta Hawks is fondly as I do, but I'm in for Michael junior. This is first and last on ESPN radio and the ESPN app. We will get into Carmelo Anthony and why. I think mellow in Houston can work coming up in just two minutes. But first, David Robinson was on the jump yesterday, sharing his thoughts on the Kawai Leonard situation with his former team is one of the oddest situations. I think I've seen since I've been in pro basketball. He's he's a hard guy to understand..

Michael junior this is first and last on? ESPN radio and the ESPN app we will get into Carmelo Anthony and. Why I, think mellow in Houston can work coming, up in just two minutes but first David Robinson was on the, jump yesterday sharing his thoughts on the Kawhi Leonard situation with his former team the oddest situations I think I've seen since I've been in pro basketball He's he's a hard guy to understand he's. A hard guy to read and you know. San Antonio which we we obviously have a reputation for taking care of. Our players, almost too much I mean people criticize, us for sitting guys down now of a sudden you know we, got a guy who says he felt pressure to play which is tough What can you do. A week, we typically don't risk our players health but I mean if, a guy's, not happy he's gotta go go somewhere where he can where, you can play That's, David Robinson the great David Robinson? The hall of Famer talking about Kawhi. Leonard on the, jump yesterday afternoon there was, something else that he said that I thought was interesting he said That he tried to reach out. To them And that he quote never heard anything back from him Now Leonard is famously quiet it's what's made this this whole situation with, the Spurs. Frustrating from San Antonio perspective and also really really, interesting now he's he's met with with Toronto. Raptors brass and but he hasn't had a press conference I guess there's there's. No sign indicating that he's actually going to have one he is, famously quiet. And if you want to be that way that's, fine if. You don't want to talk with the media that's cool if, you don't want wanna be exceptionally active on social media no problem. If you. Don't want to be a huge self promoter that's okay, if you. Don't want to chase a lot of endorsements that's, fine if you don't want to be an. NBA personality preferring. To just be an NBA basketball player that's totally cool But how do you not call. David Robinson Dak David Robinson it's, one of the most highly respected former? NBA? Players Ever ever David Robinson. Said quote I think the whole time he's been here San Antonio I've talked to him maybe a handful of times and I can't, count on, one hand how many words he's really, said to me David Robinson reaches out to you. That's that's not just some random former spirits not even some random former NBA great this is one of the most highly respected legitimately great people. Who's ever played, in, the league reaching out to you wanting to maybe council. You may.
David Robinson calls Kawhi Leonard's exit from San Antonio Spurs 'one of the oddest situations I think I've seen'
"App Carmelo Anthony wasn't the only? Trade that made news, last week about the Leonard. Swap for demar derozan in Toronto why wanted out of San Antonio we all know why but Spurs hall of Famer David Robinson Adds a little something. Deeper than just to the fact? That there was some, miscommunication about how to handle. Kawhi Leonard Medical injury is Nate David Robinson takes it a step further joined Rachel Nichols and company on. The jump on Monday now that it's. All said and. Done he's in Toronto what is your overall reaction to the? Situation and, to, quiet, how. Handled uh, specifically yeah I mean it's it's one. Of the oddest situations I think I've seen since I've been in pro basketball I he's. He's a hard guy to understand he's a hard guy to read and you know San Antonio. Which we we obviously have a reputation. For taking care. Of our players almost too much I mean people criticize us? For sitting, guys, down, now. Of a, sudden you know we've got a guy. Who says he felt pressure to play which is tough What can we you know we we typically don't risk our, players health but I. Mean if a. Guy's not happy he's got go go somewhere where he can he can play and I, think pop, and our c- our team did a pretty. Good job of of you know kind of meeting. Our needs for the future I think we'll we'll move on from the year I think we're pretty happy with. The with the deal and and we'll we'll continue to grow and get better was there a? Point you ever spoke to quiet about all. This or reached out to him I? Know you're still, around the, team, somewhat has anybody spoke to quiet about, this I talked to his ankle You know he. Really he's, a hard guy. I mean. He's just, quiet he doesn't you know I've reached out to him several times and just never. Hear anything back from them I. Think the whole time he's been talk to a maybe a handful of times and and I, can I can count on one hand how many words he's really set. To me so he's just a quiet guy and and I think that that's. Made it difficult I think for all parties to really understanding in this. Process Spurs hall of Famer David Robinson wanna many. Championships in, is pretty much calling it like it was, he's, a hard guy because Kawhi Leonard doesn't like to, talk with you sportscenter allnight on ESPN radio and the ESPN app you know who else. Doesn't like, to talk, football coaches however they. Were college, football coaches do. Like to. Talk and, there are college coaches that like to talk when your team don't make the playoffs 'cause you want them to go longer or you had to thirteen or not That was Scott. Frost that you UCF last year he's now back at his alma mater Nebraska His first year is upcoming mon- Monday was the beginning of media day for. The big ten a BCS happened in the best two teams, in the country got to play I think that was an improvement getting into fourteen an improvement but it's hard to look at. Last year's college football season and. Not feel like an eighteen playoff is where we should go and that'll always be my opinion I think it should be the five conference champions and three at large teams that would, give us a prize conference championship champion that plays well at the end of season a shot it might give a team. Like we had a UCF last year shot I think you could start that playoff earlier in December Not have to make the semi-final likable experience Scott frost the head coach of Nebraska at big ten.
