"I think he had that great first year, but I don't think he's I think I'd rather keep dump Smith and I get rid of Alonso again. I'll hang up. Have a great father July. I don't talk to you soon. Thank you, Mike. You too. I appreciate the call. Happy Fourth of July. I understand your question, And I do think that It's a legitimate one. I'm not gonna laugh you off and say no way. Would I ever do that? I think Pete has been disappointing in 2020 and now in 2021. But not to the level where I'm ready to trade him yet Now, if you have to give up, Pete or Dom to get both those two guys, I'm not making that trek. Especially keep in mind. There the likelihood of the D H coming to the National League next year. So with that in mind, I'm not trading either of those two guys the time to do it would have been prior to last season because you had to first baseman and no D a spot. Well, if you lived with it in 2020, and you're living it with it again in 2021. Why not? Wait, I have the season and see what happens with the D HBO Assuming that that does open up now you have it filled already with Peter Alonso. And still give it some time. I'm not looking at just, you know, dump Alonso, A guy with 40 home run potential, for sure. I don't think is going to hit. You know 53 every year that's obvious, but he should be hitting. High thirties and maybe in the forties. And that's what's been disappointing about him. This year. I thought Pete was going to have a big bounce back year M V p type year. I still think he's going to be that type of player. That he was more so in 2019. Then what are you shown since? But he's got to go do it. So they answer the question? No, especially in that type of deal. Now, if you're talking about I don't know, Uh, a deal where you're getting, and I'm not sure what this deal would be. Were you getting a young Study under control and maybe taking on a salary then maybe I would consider it but for you know, I know barriers, burials at the top of the rotation guy. But I'm not. I'm not giving up Alonso for burials at the moment, because I don't think that that's a glaring need right now. For the Mets. They don't need a top of the rotation guy. The only reason why even brought his name up is because if you're going to inquire with the Twins And you're going to get Donaldson. I would assume you try to figure out a way if you could get both in a package. All right. We'll take on Donaldson and his salary. Give us back Berrios and let us know what you want. The Mets have a thin form system, but maybe they would take I don't know. Maybe they would take Jeff McNeil. Maybe they would take JD Davis. Solid metal had any Young, controllable players. Now you're gonna have to give up more than just that, But maybe they give up one of the pictures. Maybe they give up. Um Tyler McGill. Something like that. Minnesota can look at the Mets and say, all right? Or David Peterson if he's healthy. Yeah, they're they're going to probably want a young control will start her back. Why not have one with some major league experience? JD Davis McNeil. I would think those guys might be Of interest to Minnesota. There's a way to do it, though. Figure it out. Even if you don't want to give up. Your top prospect necessarily. But they could use Josh Donaldson no question about it just on his own. Not that he's going to be the M V P But just his attitude. I feel like that's what's lacking when people call and say, Sal, What do you think the issue is with this Mets lineup on paper? It should be Better Nemo and Dork and Ford Alonso Damn, Smith McCann. And I look at it and I heard somebody I don't know. But what show it was I was listening. But I heard a cola coin and say, you know these guys, All they have to do is play to the back of their baseball cards. Can Fourtou and McNeil And you know, Alonzo whatever. And my response to that would have been These guys don't even have baseball cards. What do you mean the back of their baseball cards? What is Joe? One year? They don't have it. The only guy who's got a back of a baseball card and now the proper current analogy should be played to their baseball reference Page. The only guy who's got a lengthy baseball reference page is Francis Golden Door. He's the guy who has proven to be a consistent major leaguer. He's the guy that needs to get going and do what's expected of them. The others are still unknowns. McNeil even can foretell. The only thing Conforto has been is inconsistent throughout his whole career so far. He's at least got a little bit of a track record, but it's not what you want. Some years up some years down some years up some years now. McNeil Alonso. Not enough track record Dom Smith. Same thing, not enough for track record. So there is no those guys should play to their baseball reference page. See Josh Donaldson is a guy who's got a baseball reference page. And I just think he has that right makeup. To fit in with the Mets. Now he seems to have a strong personality. I don't know how that's gonna work, but I'm talking about that attitude in the batter's box. He's not a guy who's gonna have the what was me attitude. Oh, here we go again. Another slump. We're struggling, putting too much pressure on ourselves. He's not going to do that. And that is exactly what the Mets need in there. Lina beat 55 to 1 to 4 to 27855 to 1 to 4. CBS. Take a quick break here to get you updated and then finish up with your calls on the other side. Whatever it is you want to discuss on this Saturday morning Right now, a CBS Sports radio update. Here's Bob. You slur..

"David Peterson earned his first win in exactly two months by allowing just one hit over six shutout innings in the Mets five to win over the cubs Peterson was R. one four with a six point three two ERA in his last nine starts but he allowed just a third inning single to Eric Sogard who me picked up second for the final out of the frame I think it came down to just being able to execute executing pitches throughout the night and I think that led to led to what happened Dominic Smith hit a solo Homer and Kevin pillar added a two run double off loser Jake Arianna as New York beat Chicago at home for the first time in eight games Anthony Rizzo and Patrick wisdom hit back to back homers off Trevor may in the seventh I'm Dave Ferrie

'Wheel of Fortune' contestant loses over technicality

"Foul after a contestant lost on a technicality. Yesterday, David Peterson thought he solved the puzzle when he said, soul flounder, cod and catfish, but he was crushed when host Pat Sajak said that was incorrect because Peterson said the word and which is not allowed under the rules. Next contestant quickly repeated the same list of fish but dropped the word and and one nearly two grand and a trip to Nashville. Brian shook NBC news radio.

if you have a smart speaker just say play WFAN and we're wondering what date be a route three between Wilder and fury according to the RP a Wilder looks like yes it looks like he wants to get in the ring and get some former revenge I was happy to hear that I hope we get a fall better showing out of him than what we saw on Saturday night he's I don't like the idea of Deonte Wilder is going to blame that don't be costume he had on why his legs gave out that's a lame I'm sorry no other way around it that is a lame excuse yes his legs got hired he walked shot his boxing mechanics were off fury was by far away the more Polish fighter of the two you got your **** B. dot listen if this were a twelve round fight that went the distance and it could have gone either way you know what got a while to give me this excuse especially if you got off to a really slow start would be a lot easier to understand you got dominated you have dominated every which way so do not be blaming the costume you wore for why the fight didn't go according to script got beat every which way he got beat it does in a boxing expert to figure it out yeah smoked only more from it be better next time you're out there listen I want to see a third fight if it's going to be great five second fight was entertaining but was one sided I like to say soon two way action whatever's going to be if it's November the following year whatever the case may be but the costume according to the anti Wilder a major problem is my advice what better cast and the story I don't hear back costumes that Samura said Albany will is up next the joins us on the family felt well I actually call to talk about the jets tonight very unlike you by the way I have to make that kind of throws me a little bit for a little I'm not just kidding well I love you it's just a rarity for you I feel like every time you call the show is usually Mets bets bets bets bets yeah I'm actually a big jets and so I will I don't want to go over history here too much but this is what I'll just give you a brief overview of what exactly what I would do real quick I actually haven't heard you talk much about this NFL draft yes so I'm not even sure what your opinions are you Mr I did a nice little run through the top ten about an hour ago I guess you dialed in a little late I I totally tonight but anyway I'll I'll just get right to it the first thing I do this offseason I would trade Jamal Adams for a first and a third round pick by cut I know you guys a great player but you know what you can win with average safety you can't win without offense so I would I would do that if I could you think you can get a first and a third form I do not number one number two will the jets don't have enough quality players you have a guy wants to be here he played great in the second half of the year I'm prioritizing keeping Jamal Adams I gotta admit I've changed my tune on this well I was down on him with the way he was running his mild he was acting I thought like a total clown on Twitter but Danny had a heart to heart with the front office and it was all business and he went out he played a dominant fashion I'm keeping Jamal Adams to me is one of your building blocks this is a team that's looking to take the next step I am not looking to blow it up that much more I need to keep some high quality high caliber guys I have on this team he's one of them I want to hear well I wouldn't be doing that in the interest of blowing everything up it would be to get a first round pick and get a quality player but anyway they need they need offensive line obviously listen we're in agreement they need a lot of work and a lot of help on this offense and I think the number one priority will for me in free agency and the draft how do you get better on that offensive line why did it say you go hard after sure for Conklin so and let me tell you sound for the giants for the jets for the Miami Dolphins that's gotta love on my team he's more he's been great with the Tennessee Titans you put a money outside at tackle he's one of the better tackles in the league he's going to cost you a ton but that is a guy making a financial commitment tell all right I agree sort out eleven back I have no idea what your thoughts on that but I'm going Jerry duty all day if he's on the board I'm in my mind that's a no brainer I'm a fan of Judy I also have to see how they dress the line in free agency though well that to me is a million dollar question because these wide receiver crop he's so deep you might be able to wait around get a guy whose name isn't nearly as sexy as Judy because you coming out of Alabama get a really good wide receiver prospect engage this sort of offensive line prospect that you died for that's the issue you can find really good talent in the second or third round a wide receiver in this draft I don't know if you're finding that same talent at offensive tackle that was my thought process when I was hoping you sign one lime and you do have jury duty if you get a first round pick for tomorrow Adams now you draft another lineman now you got two linemen and receivers and then you got to do what do you do about the whole defense dental indigent defense takes a major step back you take items off that defense you'll lose in a guy who could do it all when it comes to get after the quarterback Culver in caco and I mean it's completely safeties you're gonna find in a lake so nine out of ten years they've drafted defense in the first battle at the last decade they invested too much as far as I'm concerned moving up three spots for Sam Darnold but the guy is your quarterback he's twenty two years old it's time you got to count out of the boss will listen we shouldn't bring on that we're on the same page with that the judge should prioritize all offensive line and wide receiver as the top two needs in this off season anyway anyhow I think it will be easier to find an offense of linemen or two who could help you right away in free agency but depending on what you do between mid March and late April if you signed two offensive linemen that you feel good about it's a lot easier to go with a wide receiver in the first available right now at this point I don't argue I'd probably like to see them go with an offense sulaimon I mean you don't have to agree with they they don't have a single playmaker on offense last year this in a place I don't know if I want to pay in fifty million dollars a year he's awful he's an awful route runner is weak I bet you like I could bench press one hundred thirty five pounds I think I think the ball right out of the stands and he's a head case I'm not a fan and but he made plays in the second half yeah the knowledge that I'm not his biggest fan either I am not all in on the idea of re signing Robbie Anderson Boyd he did play well in the second half you have to give that well you know so they have a second and two thirds what do you think about using those three picks to possibly move back in the first exactly well maybe if you take jury duty at eleven if you could move back up toward the end of the first you can get a lime in there did you lose an ally the top notch offensive on the prospects if you wait to pick up in the twenties you're gonna see a run on the offensive line and we see that the last couple years in the draft I would argue well you're probably going to see it again I think if anything you are trading up if you're any your chance to go get your wide receiver I think that's what you would be looking at dell yeah one more quick question I didn't really see Oklahoma too much you think lance lamb is on the same level as Judy yes I absolutely do I think he has I'm not gonna say he's better because to me while watching them both and I watch a lot Alabama analyzed a lot Oklahoma these are not me cheer type programs that may be see on occasion I mean these are teams we watch the pond whether it's in playoff games in big games on Saturday you name it I know you lan this fascinating Judy I think Judy is a more complete player than the land now it may turn out that Judy runs an unbelievable forty top my overall assessment of the two lamb faster more complete Judy all right well either one of them sounds good to me and I agree with that well you tell me the C. lamb a jury duties in a jet I'm happy is that a fair assessment please watching those two guys in college to me Judy was a more complete wide receiver of the two Hagel lamb is a partner I I do I am is going to be a match up nightmare for any defensive coordinator next year but if you ask me who is a more complete wide receiver I think it's Judy I think it's shooting for that reason I prefer Judy a little bit more overland but I'd be happy with either one I preferred to build.

So there's a notice on us notice on cities to really make sure that we're putting safety first we are looking at our roadways in a way that considers new mobility options tipping talking about this for decades American cities fundamentally built for cars. So for now scooter riders in many cases have to choose between sharing the road with cars, which is dangerous or sharing the sidewalk with pedestrians which. About dangerous and a legal the Skoda companies have been Kia full to limit their own legal responsibility. Both good and lime have clauses and user agreements steering riders. And to binding arbitration they also have clauses prohibiting class actions. But the strength of those agreements is already being challenged by personal injury. Lawyers like Catherine lira who was based in Santa Monica when I saw these scooters out on the street in front of our house. I immediately thought, wow, these are dangerous and someone's going to be injured soon after that Catherine put a page up on a website cooling scooter victims to get in touch. And she said the response was swift the phone started ringing, and they haven't stopped since then Catherine sees she's now receiving a cool day from a free Skoda victim. She blames the companies which she says is putting profit of public safety earlier this month, Catherine filed a lawsuit against booth in line on behalf of nine people who have been injured by scooters. One of them is ask. Street before David Peterson Catherine seed, she plans to file at least a dozen more personal injury claims in coming months, I fully placed the blame on the scooter companies for the injuries that are happening. They dump these scooters on the city's without first consulting with the cities and making sure the proper rules and regulations were in place. And so the cities were blindsided by these and had to scramble to educate the public about the rules that apply and come up with new rules that apply. And so had they worked with the cities before they drop these scooters. I think a lot of these injuries would have been avoided cities a catching up to the Skoda craze by launching pilot programs in August, Santa Monica launched a pilot that allows two thousand scooters from four companies booed lime left in jump Portland. And that includes Peterson, the OSC said that while they were disappointed in him, he did fulfill his legal duties always shocking which came out in the investigation because there wasn't investigation there were hearing so was how disinterested he was in the Mnuchin details of the company. He simply wouldn't take notes. He barely attended meetings like he just he was completely aloof and distant. Even though the allegation was that this company might be a front for organized crime. And so what happened to those those directors? What happened to the? I'm sure once again, there must have been do fitting punishment. Well, the problem was the OC themselves were being told they did nothing, so they're kinda. They couldn't exactly go in, you know, throw the book at the. The directors, you know there there was some penalties weren't, but they were fairly minor. No-one went to prison. Mobile, never set foot in prison. I mean, in the twenty years since that's happened, he's still alive and well and prosper. And since then, David Peterson said a fine career recently, chancellor of the university of Toronto, very prestigious position. We reached out to Peterson for comment, but he didn't reply back by the time. We published sophisticated criminals from abroad like mogul, Ahah vich see Canada's a target. They're looking for a place to put their money and they're looking for place that won't ask too many questions and Canada's more than happy to take that money when everything does come crashing down almost nobody has to pay for the consequences..

"Another loss tonight seven to three to the philadelphia phillies and one aspect of the trade deadline that you have to keep in mind here is if the mets are to move one of their big starting pitchers being syndergaard or even a manse or wheeler this you're going to be watching if they decide to make that kind of move and this is the kind of thing they're going to have to fill out they don't have all on a guys to go to to help out in the rotation and you'd look over the last four games and three of them are started by the likes of corey oswald would they pitch well yesterday chris flexing and sam gannon ganja i it's not ideal and this is what the mets have in the system immediately you know they have some guys further down like david peterson a first round pick last year and anthony k and justin done and sue prospects that are probably about a year at the very least from making an impact at the big league level it's going to be some holes in this rotation both short term and perhaps next year as well but i still think zack wheeler is the guy loved to sell high on within being healthy right now throwing ninety nine miles per hour he is steadily improved as.

Matt talks to Marc Okrand about cursing in Klingon

"Hi, this is Matt fiddler, and you're listening to very bad words. The podcast about swearing and taboo language. We've covered swearing in foreign languages before on two different episodes in two thousand seventeen. And on this many cast, we're going to cover some more foreign curse words. But these particular swear words have no definitions because these are words from the Star Trek universe Markle Crandon I devised the Klingon language. Her didn't Star Trek movies and TV shows. In fact, he created all the alien languages heard on Star Trek Romulo in Vulcan and a few others what I was I asked to make up Klingon it was for Star Trek, three. And the idea was to make up Klingon lines that meant these twenty maybe at the most lines in the script, and we decided to make it sound real. It should be real. So he made it be realized with grammar and consistent cavalier and all these things. But the goal was never to make more than what was needed for the script. And the next time I had anything to do with with with the language was when I wrote this book, which may or may not have been a good idea called the Klingon dictionary. And there is nice say that is because it caused all kinds of things to happen with the language wants. This book came out. And in writing the book, I said, okay, if I include only what was in the movie and vocabulary items that were in the original TV show, maybe it would have been a really skinny book. There wasn't that much to flesh out the vocabulary and grammar, but mainly vocabulary. And in doing that, I thought of all kinds of things to add a lot, a lot of words. And then it got to the part about profanity because if you're a Star Trek fan, even a casual one like myself, you know that the klingons must say, vile dirty things just fits with their character it when people are learning new languages, what are the first things they want to learn after learning? The book is on the table. They wanna swear. They want to learn how to curse because that's how real people talk. I mean, how awesome would it be? Swear it someone at a Star Trek convention or Comecon in Klingon. But Mark would have to create profanity from scratch for this Klingon dictionary. He was creating. Because there was none in the movie Star Trek, three and none in the original TV shows. Is that right? What am I going to do here gave us some fun. I said, well, I wanna make sure they published this book. So I made up maybe five words, six. I said, these are the dirty words, and here the meanings of each of these words. And the meetings were comic book means meaning asterisk exclamation point at sign, stuff like that. So none of them was defined. But when the audiobook conversational Klingon was to be published, Mark wanted a little intro to the book that included a lesson on swearing in the original first draft, some kind of introduction, whatever it wasn't as okay. Now let's begin with what everyone who learns a foreign language. What's to know I, which is the dirty words and the company putting this thing out to Simon and Schuster said, no. No, we can't. We can't have dirty words. You know, we can't do that. So I thought about it. I said, all right, we'll do something else will be more traditional. Let's start with the sounds, but Simon and Schuster did let Mark put some Klingon curses in the final version. So they snuck in snuck in there. But once again, they were not defined. I'd say things like this word you my utter, if you're really angry and let it go, that none of them has never been defined. Next week, we'll hear a lot more for Mark about Leon Star Trek in white klingons do actually curse a lot in the Star Trek universe. We'll also hear from David Peterson who has linguists that creates other fictional languages in the curse. Go with them including the rocky language from game of thrones. We're gonna find out about all sorts of these curses in fictional languages and how fantasy inside often make new English curse words to express the taboos in their fictional worlds. Nice to see the truth that route. Route and guidance through this whole story. We'll be my former radio co worker force Phillips and his scifi fantasy partner Emily. So tune in next week? Very bad words.
