"But, you know, go back and a little bit more time and maybe pick out one story on why and how camp hope came to be because, you know, we may know somebody in our family of friend. That is suffering out there. And they may not know that this Place exists to help right And that's our biggest issue always is just letting people know we exist and what we do works and it's free. So that's our number one obstacle and every time And social media is a great way to share this story about who we are and what we do reach a lot of people through social media. But yes, So if you have, if you have someone that maybe you start to see that, as a veteran, they're changing their behavior there a little quicker on the draw on their temper. More more easily agitated. Traffic bothers him or even though traffics non Hispanics that used to be with covert going on overmedicating over drinking or any of those kind of things, excessive drinking, you see those changes in their behavior. It's time to reach out. Okay, So, uh, a family member can reach out to you first. It happens all the time. And they know you don't have to rely on just the veteran to come to you directly. You you all are. Listening, and it may be trying to percent of the time that the actual that makes the first contact with us every time I'll sit, zah friend. It's a family member, or it's a veteran's court. Or a psych ward in one of the V A hospitals. It's almost never the actual veteran that reaches out to us first. All right, So you mentioned social media. But let's just in terms of numbers. Media getting contact. What if I am one of these people that has a family member? I want to reach out to you. Can you go ahead and is there a phone number? They can call their website. They can get some facts and information in background. Absolutely no. I always get informed. First just understand what PTSD is versus what television tells you. It is on the evening news. But understand what it is. And yes, our website PTSD us a dot or PTSD. Post traumatic stress disorder. PTSD US a dot organ. There's a link for the Houston area. Yes, for for all of our support groups for what happens at camp Hope for what PTSD is in our combat vets and how to notice some of the symptoms. You'll see that If you want to just talk with someone to learn more about it, or office number 8329124429 if you know a veteran and crisis And I encourage everyone to put this number in the phone because you're going to run across of that you'd meet me. I don't know anyone. I don't mean toe worry about it. Put the number in your film You might run across the veteran. It's homeless, and you don't know what the to do. 877717 78 73 877717 PTSD or 78 73. Okay, Now I did mention this and we'll come back from this first will break you could go into little detail is And we talk about this and in certain aspects. It's not just about asking people for money. How can people get involved? How can people volunteer even in this unusual time of covert 19? And how can you help if you're listening out there and you want to help? There are ways other than just writing a check and we're gonna talk a little bit about that when we come back from this break, David malls be with Camp Hope, which is part of the PTSD Foundation and They do great work here, and I'm going to when we come back also may not be in the next 10 minutes, maybe 20 minutes from now or so more brag about some of the local companies that have really stepped up. Besides, just like maybe the berry but great bury brigade. That's a tongue twister and every realize that, But those people can help. But some of the companies that have really stepped up to the game on this and maybe you can be one of those. Cummings. Maybe you could be one of those people that really wants to help the PTSD foundation and especially camp hope here locally. So get your Panhandle. Get your pencil handy. Get your piece of paper that your smartphone ready like David David typing away over there right before he went on the air, So I know he's posting some stuff right now, and I won't get I want to get the garden line audience involved. "If you want, but you're not required. You don't have to spend a damn if you don't want to it's for our listeners. We're going to have a lot of our camp residents there. Oh, I'm glad that. David malls, be told me what we need. So. I would like to double the number of unwrapped presents that we deliver to camp. Hope they're going to take them away with them tomorrow night guy. Some of the residents of camp hope we're going to be there tore night now understand when you shake the hand of a camp resident or staffer, you're shaking. The hand of a veteran almost always a combat veteran. Often Iraq Afghanistan. Many occasions wounded. Almost all occasions. Having lost a buddy in war. There are some Vietnam gas, but not nearly as many as the younger gas, Iraq and Afghanistan. Realize that when you shake the hand of those guys, and you'd think for for their service, you're talking about guys who've served our country in war, and then come home and found themselves in a bad situation. Mentally got to camp hope because another veteran was waiting there to help them up. And now they've turned around and they're serving other veterans. Now, if that's not humbling, I don't know what is the bible is very clear not on being a king. We're not to be kings and lords and princes. We're to be servants. That is the example we're given to reduce ourselves before other men to wash the feet of those around us. When shoes weren't in vogue and feet were filthy, those are the examples right service. So if you do come tomorrow night, you're not required to bring an unwrapped gift or a gift card. You're not required. But if you've got a gift card at the company that you're not really excited about or in a yellow in a white elephant. Event or whatever you got an extra fifteen bucks your kids got a piggy Bank. You're not sure what to do with it. In you wanna give it absolutely positively? We'll take it and we'll have camp hope on site to take cash donations and any gifts and the thing they need more than anything else..

"To my inbox high. That's David Mallaby with PTSD foundation. And camp hope if I wanted to just go out and take a look 'cause I needed to understand how it's working out there before I made any kind of donation financially, or I'm a corporate sponsor, don't you encourage people coming out. Yes. Take a look we don't spend money marketing. So we're trying to get people. There. Fact, we have some companies that will do there. Company. You know, veterans meeting on our campus, we have a room that'll hold about one hundred people at a time. So we invite them to come out. We'll feed him. We'll do the whole nine yards. We want them on our campus. We want them to see what's going on. So yeah, you can call and schedule a tour of is just you or a small group that you're part of will host your meeting. We want you on our campus. We want you to meet our veterans. Thinking outside of the box here. But I would love to see groups of people go in like a club like a Key Club like something like that a group of adults not not just a school group. But a group of adults who gather once a week to make this their meeting sometime and see how they can help we do that with the with the management company right now. Excellent. I'm not thinking outside of the bonds. So we're doing it is my mind because I have to basically teenagers at the house. I actually like it when they get taken to see how things are working. I'd like to see groups of adult see how this works and why it works and we won't bring the teenagers out to. Yes. "To expect us radio twelve hundred w away. I. David don't be sniffing the whole interview. I just heard bizarre guest. I'm going to try to get him not sniff out into the microphone, but I can't promise show anything because he's got the microphone up a little bit. Hi, David malls, busy, executive director of camp hope and a Mench of a man he devotes. He devotes more hours to our veterans with PTSD than most people in a week, the most people work in a month. It's amazing. What he does tirelessly love the guy. I love you. I love the as a heart for these veterans. David I asked you to stop in because you were recording your show on Sunday, which is veterans road to hope here in Houston is what the show is called and this podcast. You can find it. But since you were in the building I want to ask a couple of questions that come up a lot. So you saw the Email from a listener. Who said, hey, I got a guy that I'm working with. He's clearly got PTSD. He clearly needs help. I don't want him to take his own life. We're losing twenty two Veterans Day. It's people in your own neighborhood is people in your own workplaces people in your own family. It's guys at serve in your own unit. Anyway, so he says I got this guy. He needs to call camp hope and get in get help. You've made it clear to me to camp hope can help him. I can't get him to call. What do I do? All right. So we have a great team an outreach team that's far better at this. And I am thankfully, we will. We'll try to find a way to connect with him. Hey, come hang out with us for a barbecue or grill. Burgers, snide come hang out with a bunch of vets will try to make a non therapy typesetting, at least in his mind. We don't do therapy anyway. But we try to get past. That mindset. That's not who we are. What we do. Just coming out with a bunch of vets, let's talk. Let's find a way to meet scare grab some coffee. Let's go to a game anything like that to get him out from his environment and into a place where he feels safe with other vets? So when he picks up that call though, you know, I've listened I'll tell you in my own life. I might wanna go I might be thinking of. Buying a vehicle. And but I don't want to go on the lot. I'll wait till lots closed because I don't want to enter the lot. And then all of a sudden, I'm in the system, they want your phone number. They weren't. So I'll go when the when the lots close, right? It strikes me that one of the things these veterans that are suffering from PTSD, and they know it it's sort sorta like entering a or starting a diet. You know, you need to do something about it. But you don't want to get caught into something you want to get a little information debutante get out. Right. Absolutely. So how do you get them to make that first call? Well, that's the best ways. We can get them to call us rather than us. Call them. We get sometimes vets that get angry because their sister their mother or their spouse. Whoever's have my beloved one's hurt and can you reach out to them? Well, we can it's not the best way to gripe about it. But if that's all we can do we will. We'll do our best. But. Yeah, websites as websites are so important. A lot of times that's the way to sniff and smell before actually getting out. And seeing it for yourself see what they're about. We're not. We're not therapists were not willing to all that. We're just going through the same thing bins at the same places. When you when they don't do much anymore. But when they first came out with the scratch and sniff. What was your favorite flavor on the scratches now?.
