"It. He started watching episode from the start. Start if a dentist start is is insane. I remember honestly like i was like billick. I had to like you know my caller texture. I was a little worried about your mental health dealing with the pandemic differently. But you going back and watching every episode of the challenge that a little bit of a red flag warning signs because everything cool. He's a cool. I just had it on the background of i work. We watched it watched it but we started at like rivals. I think screeners dude. I know what happens tonight crazy. I don't like this season as much as i want to. But it's because we were watching dirty thirty we were in the military thirty which all race olga. and then. i was going to this one. And i'm like oh i'm getting confused. I can't simultaneously watch two seasons of challenge but it made me realize the reason we love it. We can get into this the next time you do. Guess is because it's a recurring cast in a competition reality show and nobody else has that so you. It's basically like sports in that you get. I know you've always said that. But it's like you get seasons of like rivalries between new people new people enough old people think there's something about just like old friends i've known been and assured on. I've i've been a fan of johnny bananas for what sixteen years so just hearing the cadence of his voice and seeing his dumb hair. Just makes me feel comfortable. You know what i mean. it's just. It's just a television massage when i see. That's my brother. that's my brother. I never met this man. That's very strange. Ct tonight on tease episode. It's actually last night. Ct last night has very little impact. But at the end of the episode he drops a four sentence impression which is just chef's kiss brilliant. I can't wait to watch all right. Well we'll let you go. Thank you so much for doing this. It's nice to see you any time. Someone cancels home and all right. Which by the way we read and we love them and either travis or stena. I'm just seeing for the first time. Snuck into stock a review. So i didn't have to panic. And now i kind of miss it like this. One from a c. g. t. r. s. apparently says katie sparkles like tb. Twelve super bowl ring. And at first. I was like what. What a weird. Why would they just put in a review. That's just a complement of me. And then i read it again and was like oh because it's one of them compliments. That hurts so travis did it. Lastly don't forget that you can always live last hour. I wasn't supposed to do it that way. So then i added a little while at the end. The numbers eight six. Oh five oh six five five seven one keep calling in with your awesome hypotheticals and debates. You've had with your friends because they're going to be very fun to do on the podcast. And i love them. Say goodbye jacoby. Thank so much. Katie for having me on by said say goodbye. "Where were we in this. I'm trying to be reminding you of or from supposed to move you on to another thing. I do want your kids. So do which are there things that one twin is better margot can do that. Khloe can't do and stuff that khloe can do that. Margo can't do or are they very similar. I'm always interested. I've never i don't. My dad was a twin. But i didn't. I've never interacted with twins that are growing up. It must be so into while social experiment. You have the exact same parents. You're the exact same age. You're born at the exact same time. But you're you're so same time i don't have to explain that to. Usc section cool all right interest here friday violation. But that's really. I don't know probably your adopted so the people work always. How'd your coronavirus tesco. I think that's technically illegal to ask me actually. Yeah i had more people. Reassessing high told one person that i had corona virus. More people from the company reach out to me. That had reached out to me in months and i was like. Are you guys afraid. I gave it to you zoom. I have not left my house. There's no way i'm not. You don't have to contact tracing. I go here. Can i do my best friend thing. I didn't even know your current affairs yet. Nobody did didn't really you didn't do the virus tweet. No because i was. I look i did. I did everything you were supposed to do. I genuinely haven't left. Partially it was because i had growing up lung issues i had reactive airway disease which means every time i got sick like if you had a bug in somehow gave it to me at work i would even. If your bug didn't involve a cough. I would get a really bad cough so it was like an adding co ed shrimp to any stake at a steakhouse. It was like adding. I added cough to every sickness. So in my head. I'm like that's manageable regular life but if corona virus like i'm worried that maybe it'll be really really bad for me long was In another part of it is i hate. I really never wanted to have to get a test. I heard people describe how much they hated that. I pass out during routine multiple Medical procedures yeah. I pass out a lot a pass. Get my story with needles. Just it's a legit medical condition. But i get very defensive about it because nobody takes it seriously and it is so brand for you because you're such a tough girl not i knew that way. You're like super hard work and stuff. I can get through it all power through katie nolan against all odds do. Oh that's very kind. I'm not i'm terrified. Person scared of being hurt all the time you. yeah but i love people very strongly. I love what i do for a living so much that it's like if i love enough i don't mind if it hurts me but if i don't love needles i don't love them so i do mind if they hurt me. Please stop hurting me. So i started passing out mostly with those in the now. It's at the point. Where if i get my blood pressure taken. 'cause somebody explained to me. Somebody cursed me with knowledge and said that what. That's what's happening when they do that is. They're closing one of your blood like veins and seeing how hard it pushes to reopen. And i was like don't do that. You don't do that now. You pass out on a pass out an eye doctor last year. It just say so. I knew yeah as soon as they put out from a full stand jacoby walking to do something. I just woke up on the ground. You puzzles out. I've always had in my people do it. But i've never passed out. Oh my god. I used to pass out as a kid all the time. Pass out like what happens. You're standing there and all of a sudden just on the floor. Yeah when i was younger it was. Because i would hyperventilate. I would like cry about the pain. And my mama beg. You gotta breather. You're gonna and passed out. And i would just like crumble to the ground now i can breathe now. I mostly do like the whole time but does not relaxed breathing. Some actually tensing up. Either way i think in the in the war of fight versus flight. I think i've proven lighter. I just run a retreat. You're so much less cool than i think with the main menas compliment. You ever get. I guess where you are in my head and where you are when you reveal yourself. Sumi are two completely different than you. It's nice to know you thought i was cool at one sad to know. I've disproven it fully. So there's that but anyway i was really good about not going out just because i knew i was going to hate all of the things involved. It and i didn't need to go anywhere. There is no reason to me goanywhere. They cancelled the show so then. Dan was show's on hiatus. So it's canceled. I you know what. I sang that tune about garbage time for a long time to make myself feel better than i was like essentially cancel. Will you had the intellectual properties of maybe heidi's let's be different host sunday or maybe the same host who's to say anyway. Most with future brings the. Dan is a stand up. Comedian and he you know we started dating a couple of months before this all happened and has been living here since it happened and so weird. It's crazy it's crazy because it's worked out it works. He's he's the absolute best. I love him so much. And it's been fantastic. But i've seen him you know he's been doing stand up for should know the number but guess what. I don't a lot of years i would say eighteen. I think it might be more and like nonstop. That's all the time. It's been his life and he got to a point where he had an hbo special which was his goal was jerry and it was so good it was so good and then this happens in a went from like running to a dead stop and i watched that affect him and then he was like you know people are starting to do shows they have dates and i was at but we need to talk about that. Because i don't want you to go out. And i want you to do your thing but i don't want you to get it and i don't want you to bring it back here that would suck and so. We reached a understanding about it. He didn't he didn't do most of the dates he wanted to do. But every now and then he would do some. I used to make him quarantine at his house and get covid negative test before it could come back then. I realized if he got covid positive test i would go to his house and take care of him along appointed finally the last time i was like you know what screw it. Don't get a test. Just come home. And then like two days later he was like i feel good and then it was my birthday and i found out. I had corona virus on it. Thanks so much and then you know took a week off maybe too. I think i took a week off and find now but it was his gary. Did you ever.

"Distance. That simply with an i will too is. So it's s. I am l. i. Safe dot com slash nolan. Okay let's do a paw hello frosted mini wheats. Welcome to sports the podcast into the question mark but when you think about it it's mostly rhetorical I'm katie nolan. It's a thursday podcast. So that means a one of my friends here and we're gonna talk about. Why like them and then you know. Maybe i don't try to understand the world. Is they see today. That friend is david jacoby. Hi david hello katy. What's happening nothing you. This is a. I'm very excited. Thank you for doing this. But this is going to be very different from all the other ones. Not just because. I think i probably know you less than i know everybody else. I've interviewed so far. But you're at work. I'm at work. So what i do. Is i wake up in the morning. Put clothes on shut up. And then i say goodbye to my family and go to a place now work there and then say goodbye to the people at work with and then go home. Isn't it crazy. That sounds like a fantasy world like oh that would be cool. That would be good. It's not how going to antarctica. No have other relationships instead of putting all of your eggs in the basket of the one. I say goodbye to people. I didn't do that for straight months. I would never buy longtime. It feels great up to say hello to people realized yesterday because i had to run an errand that my small talk ability or like threshold is way lower than it used to be a really if i get into a third small talk i'm like i don't wanna do this on the opposite. I talked with an uber driver for forty minutes yesterday. I see that that's not small talk. Forty minutes isn't small talk. I'm talking like you're in line at the cvs and someone's like are you in line and you're like yeah and then like crazy weather on you're like i don't i can't there's too much going on right now sir. I wanna talk to you about the weather. It's not that crazy here. have you heard about texas. We should talk about politics. Do too deep too fast. Well anthony in detroit is very hung up on his ex girlfriend who cheated on him years ago and he's still talking about it. That was uber driver. Oh i was gonna say you were in. Detroit was why. What are you doing traveling and going to work. You're gonna feel bad now. I went to jalen rose's mouth zero. Oh i did feel bad. I didn't know she passed away. She did he love to hear from you. I i don't have his number. I would never ever have jalen number because gills numbered. I don't deserve his phone number. I also assume he doesn't send his own text messages. He's got somebody answers them no he. He doesn't send his responded text messages but he's a big north. I'm a huge jalen. Rose fan which i didn't I'm not. I don't want to spend your interview talking about jalen as you're the guys ever done that before all the time. But that's what he is so conned. He really you feel so much more important than you. Are that why you have a show with him. First question makes me feel really good. He's genuinely generous kind person like once a month. They'll just order food for the building. Pablo and i talked about this in my interview of pablo win would have just random. You'd walk in there. Be cowgirls see her horse and it just felt like wanting you to have today. Four hundred fried pickles. He's the best but you're better just for today. At least i can't text him as also take away from that so tell you. Text him that. I love him and i'm really sorry. That's such a bummer. Real bummer me. And there's so much dying this year it's like all over the place to my black suit has gotten a lot to run this year. Man start yet is a good start. You brought it up So you're at work. You go to work and you get to have interactions with other people. How how has your overall. How has your pandemic ben assuming that were that includes now so from like when they cancelled those basketball games to now i've noticed a lot of people have had like some people have had time to get way too deep myself and then other people are like not just want to know what the experience did to you because everybody went through something and we can all learn from each other's we grants. I would say that everything's graded on like a pandemic curve. People how are you. It's like the truth of the matter is absolutely awful awful. I'm terrible right now however graded on the pandemic curve like. I'm pretty good. Probably better than average eloquent way to put that because we're at the beginning of the pandemic everyone's like how do i respond to the. How are you text. And now it's like you've got to adjust your for the pandemic. i was definitely. It was definitely in mid-march. This'll be cool. We'll be inside for ten days. I'll watch tiger king. It was going to admit anything yet. Everything's gonna return to normal two weeks. I swear to god like everything's shut down. I was talking about the kids. Be back in school in like a month. Let's let's sign them for summer camps. I really thought it was going to be like a little short thing. And i've completely stopped predicting. Sometimes i go down in this deep dark hole remnants like. I'll never not wear masks. My kids will never go to school again like this year to just accept. It's like if. I just accept that then when it doesn't then when something when i don't have to wear masks when the kids can go back to school it'll be like what a lovely treat instead of being like. I needed to be now. I need it to be now and he disliked wearing this mask. Need the kids to get out of the house like. I just have to accept that like well. This is reality now until somebody finally does something about it. It's also the pandemic used to be a finite amount of time you know how is your pandemic in your question. Used to be a one single instance. But now i've had like eight different chapters of the. That's another said the same thing. Day where i was like i used to just be able to say during the pandemic but now there's phases. There is the phase where i watched the pandemic like it was sports and i watched the news channels and was like oh god any updates any updates oh god that death tolls rising and then it got to a point where i was like. I'm not doing this anymore. Listening to a podcast called corona virus. Daily oh my god on. Npr listen to it every day. It was just like did you see minutes of corona virus daily. They changed the name to consider this. I think so. I was like oh. This is not exclusively corona virus content. That i'm out i'm out. I don't want to consider anything except corona virus. That's all i'm just. Yes but yeah. I've had multiple phases of this pandemic. And it's been That's so weird because it feels like honestly when we first found out. Mike can you imagine if they gave us two weeks off from work like a universal snow day for two weeks.

"Your doesn't show. That's the worst part. Is She came? Back And No no keep going. Okay do you say Croissant Cross saw? Not if I'm speaking to people who do. Not. I'm speaking English speaking in French. Way He's quite the Frenchaccent. So Would you consider a WHO's the winner? WHO's the loser? And where did the Astros fall into this like I feel like. Go ahead, go thousand percent the Astros of the winter i. Wore they don't have to deal with. Out. So not fair, I say the second winner is me because there's a mariners fan I can now say well. I mean who who could have predicted. They would have had a bad season and it's like you know. We shouldn't even really counted although it could actually help me because. In, two thousand and eighteen at the halfway point, the mariners had the third best record in baseball. Cutting the season in half, which basically means crazier stuff is likely to happen right so. I think fans of crappy teams like myself could actually benefit from the weirdness of it all the increased randomness. Gosh I wish I remembered where I saw this but I saw some article that was a or a graph that was comparing the numbers of if you stopped every season after six games, what percentage of those teams would have made the playoffs and it was? Gosh, if I knew the number, it would really be impactful, but don't, but it was no. I know I. Know what you're talking about. Something like at the halfway point. Maybe like seventy percent of the teams are blocked in I recall seeing it depends where you set the threshold of course but. The nationals of course being the most recent example, let's team that got off to a terrible start and went. Onto win at all bent as it usually happened. Most of the championships champions at the past few years were good in the first half of the season as well, but it does. There's going to be more chaos. Just leave it at that, yeah! Cancer's good I like I guess yeah. Sorry Spring Training in seven days and there's no planned. KOSH COVID nineteen. There's no. This is gonNA. Go flawlessly yeah. So, we're rooting for like this chaos of the sport, not chaos with like all the health stuff necessarily. Anti chaos it pertains to health although I look forward to many awkward takes on guys testing positive, and then that we're going to do that thing where we talk about it, and it's sports sense like what does this mean for? What is? You know the. First Round or whatever and that's going to be really weird. Yeah, I! Don't think Reggie that. We'll be here. You might like solid serious, not really take try to stir out. Oboe. Site is defense thing I think it's GonNa work out pretty well. You've been doing an incredible job with it so far so I wouldn't change a thing. Crushing it and go take things that we listened to the experts. Giving you a little preview. Of You, it's Nice. Let's. Go. Go enjoy your thirty minutes off. I cannot thank you enough for me coming on here and helping US understand. Syriac. That's how he gets the food. Goodness what? Do you, think final question, do you think? If Lenny met Chase Elliott. He kiss him open mouth as well. So. Answer to this, which is we first are veteran. La is a Korean woman and Lenny was like weirdly sent around her right and my husband aren't thinking like. Maybe he thinks it's you. It's your sister. There's some sort of recognition racial recognition going on there and. It was a little weird right. But then when he met my brother, theory was put to rest. All right. Let me thank you for joining us. Thank you the best. Players. You. Should probably talk about basketball I mean I know we talked about it last week, but I feel like everything changes every twenty seconds. Okay, who let me call? Going to call David Jacoby a Ho yeah, I've heard of him because he is my friend and he knows about basketball and he can tell us. About basketball..

"And like get some nice feedback from your peers and from strangers and you're like, maybe this is the thing. Like, maybe this kind of works. You kind of develop your own bid you develop your roles. It takes a long time. Does what are you? Were you nervous? Let's go play some. Hoops with Jalen rose. No, you know, it was more. Like, let's go to the gym and shoot around. You know what I mean? Right. Like it wasn't like we're not gonna play one on one. It's not like after practice with Kobe Bryant, right? Exactly. You'll never believe. This is really good at basketball really talented basketball heard under rating came a radio. Yes. Really never play. Like, maybe when she's like the local communications college. And you are if you are down in a pickup game, and you want to stay on the court. Getting them in the ball out of the way, watching elbow. Some people magazine. My read that you describe the show as a pup the trunk production. So even as you got to know each other, even as it became a national show. And then a television show the space that you do it in his small and intimate and the nature of the relationship in the topics. You talk about are all very casual and like that's the goal. Obviously pop. The trunk is. This is not produced. How do you run? The same way you've always wanted to and not let the increase in viewers or money or budget or TV or whatever affect that relationship in that product. It's a good question. Again, it goes back to like the smooth essential because it's like, it's a radio show. And you know, how you've done all the different various forms of media when you're doing radio, you kind of talk about how you tied your shoes this morning. You know what I mean? Like, you gotta fill this time. And it's not like there's no producer in your ear saying move on. Or we've hit this graphic this bureau coming up like it's very much just like you kind of hanging. You're just kind of hanging there. And you've got your plan, but you deviate from the plan, and you can you can use clips from TV shows clips from that you can you don't have to clear things do the work. Yeah. I don't even know if I don't even know if we ever do is legal. But you what he's like commercial music. I don't know why on the radio, you can do all this stuff..

"Yeah. Always something. Yeah. So if you had an idea it didn't have to be a good idea about sports. You know, what I mean, which has been my entire career was just like, you have ideas. But at the have to have a sports peg with is places like we did early on. We did thing called the Super Bowl where we just sort of bracket about soups. Right. I mean, it's dumb idea. It's a pun joke. But like you can't necessarily like walk into sports nation in the morning and be like we're doing the Super Bowl today guys. And they're like, okay. Let's talk about Brett farve or whether or not he's gonna retire because you know, and it And was. it was great. So so you're loving doing it you're producing. Audio and video content for them. You produced the grantland basketball. Our and grantland features. You got a whole bunch of awards for that. Right. I mean nominations and national magazine award nominations etcetera. So tell me about creating grantland features and how big of a step up or maybe it wasn't. But was that a big step up for you in terms of your role and also the kind of the seriousness of the content that you were tasked with lows we had a studio. One of the first things we do is build a studio with very proud of. It's it's sort of like a format that he is still use the Kobe still uses which is like. A two person one person control room. That's adjacent to a studio where this robot cameras and the inside. So there's not like it's like, you're working on a big show where there's there's stage managers and cameraman publicist and producers and researchers and like it's feels like, hey, we're this whole team of one hundred people working in the show where it's like just like the two people in the room. You know, what I mean, it feels a lot more like doing this podcast and doing a big TV show, and we would produce a lot of content from that studio, but that's really just two people in a room talking, and it's like YouTube, and we're putting out like sixty minute clips, you know, what I mean? So it's not necessarily super snack -able Internet-friendly stuff. So what we decided to do after time when we start growing and YouTube to deal with us that was a two year deal, which really kind of like launched us because all of a sudden, you know, seven figure deal an annual budget. All right. We can do things. So we'd started making essentially like documentaries are short features or even just dump stuff going on the road with Bill and doing things. So that we started to vary. Our content a lot more animated. Stuff. So it was like a again like it really just felt like we could do anything we wanted. Which is unlike anything else I've had in my career, and it we certainly started. You know, couldn't do it by myself at get some freelance editors and get some people in and get some kick a couple of headcount, and it just kind of grew pretty quickly. And it was you know, some of the stuff twenty thousand people watched some stuff two million people lost. And you know, how that works for sure you just keep going. And you can be up to like lab. But no one's gonna listen. Like, yeah. That's kind of the point because no-one probably really want someone to live. Exactly when I think about my early jobs and some of the mistakes I made I'm like thank God. No, one trusted me the way I thought they should. Well, sure, it's out there. I don't wanna make it all about me like what are some of your first hosting gigs. Oh, I mean, like my I did this fantasy sports one in L A, and then I moved to Chicago and did this mouthpiece sports gig. Some of those are still out there. Like, none of them are blatantly wrong. It's just like green. I remember when I met, you know, blogs with balls in Chicago. Oh, okay. So that must have been during your like Chicago mouthpiece. That was the two thousand six or seven or something. Let me hang out and do beers on night. But it was David Jacoby from ten cool. Do this thing. Yeah. Well, I didn't move back to Chicago to oh eight. Okay. So maybe it was the first. In New York, right? Yes. That's the I went to the Chicago. And I also met. What are now knows the starters. They're Yemi to. Oh, I remember that when we were at the captain Morgan club. I don't remember the club. I like Wrigley may attached to Rhys affect. Yeah. That was probably I wanna say two thousand nine or ten. Yeah. Yeah. I wasn't working for ESPN yet. Yeah. Yeah. 'cause I remember the starters the sports nation was already up. I was there. All right. So let's let's talk about because I think one of the fascinating things..

"So it was like who what led the league in stolen bases in one thousand nine hundred six sixty four twenty four thirty four. I just did that five hundred times over the course of like twenty hours, and then sent it in a day earlier ones like has wanted to go to look at this. In case you wanted to make any changes, which I didn't realize at the time because I was like young like no one's gonna look at that to make any changes like they're not going over the stuff in a fine tooth comb. I mean, we hired you to do the work that you want us to read all of these. And then tell you how to improve them. They're like, no, man. Thanks attitude. Come in for a interview, and I got hired as an internet ESPN the magazine in nineteen ninety nine and outside of like, four months at HBO sports. I have not worked anywhere else. I did NBC Olympics wants, but it's like a basically just been at ESPN in a freelance capacity for a long time. And how old were you? More math twenty one. So you're still finishing up NYU. Yes. I was I as an intern wall. I was. Yeah. That's exactly what happened. And then you turned it into a full-time gig. When you graduated it was all by accident. I was going to go work for prudential in Jersey City is going to do it. I commute thing. And it was because remember like this weird. Like, you're going to buy a house in Hoboken. At the time thinking ham, a businessman, I have a business degree. I'm gonna working a big business. You know? And then they needed a job some of the people that I worked with the magazine worked at the Espy awards needed a job on that. So I worked on the SP awards. I that's one of the first things I did in like a freelance for ESPN two. I was Wayne Gretzky's red carpet escort that had to like walk them and take him to tell him when it was time to leave and move on. Yeah. Those did a lot of those two because you gotta remember this. You know? Fifty important athletes there, you know. And so you get you get this collared shirt, right? And then and you kind of have to hire these people like to like the forty eight hours before over the course of like ten SP's sometimes that goes, very wrong. You know, I can only imagine you know, I was on the same one with a girl who was Michael Phelps red carpet escort. And they're married now. Oh, that's how they met. So actually the last Espy's I was at when they walk down the carpet together. I was like you guys are not gonna remember me. And she's like, I remember you. I'm like, yeah. We were Espy's escorts together. And congrats. Yes. Yes. Wait. There's been a couple of times, which is like, no, no, no, no, no, no, not that kind of escort. Okay. Okay. Every time. I say I have to be like does this. Michael Phelps wasn't the only person who just. Hey. Out with you all night this escort for the family. There's a lot more legwork for me. But this is great. I mean, obviously, the pun jokes aside. But it does happen more than you think. Where it's just like, hey, we've got this young athlete who was famous in this like, you know, sort of like young person that's excited to work at ESPN impressionable. It's not twenty nine thousand nine remember that it's like twenty thousand six I was with Gretzky and his wife, so everything was cool and above the board. Okay. Unrelated. I don't wanna miss on misrepresent the game you can fifty over ten years. That's five hundred. You know what? I mean. You're going to have some incidents love it. Okay. So let's talk about some of the early gigs. And what you wanted to do. Obviously you grew up loving sports. And you have this business background from school? What side of things did you think you want to work on? And what did you want to be a part of? It's a good question. I had a marketing management and marketing degree, and I got hired kinds of the marketing department and twenty two and this is like life advice. I would tell people this story like just graduated college..

"A lot of letters coming into the mailbox know what I said. I was good at him. Good good. When I was like twelve. Yeah. Exactly like grading on the curve. Exactly. A feeder system to the big universities that Nola college coaches in the old bleachers that the Amherst Amherst high school basketball games. Not a lot of people the bleachers at the general. Yes. No, I went to NYU, and we would play a lot of pickup at the gym. And I had like a really good pickup came against some of the players, and in assistant coach was like, hey, we want you on the team like your mazing in the back of my mind. I'm like that was just a good game. You know, I don't really have all that scoring ability that you saw. Recreate and I was a cool. No doubt. Here's a just going to practice tomorrow at seven thirty right here. I will be there. My man, no doubt. And then I went home and Tillman roommate like there's no chance I'm going to. This seems to be a theme for you. It's like this balance of passion. And then also laziness. Right. Like, I was great at lacrosse Boone. I took a break. And I was like, you know, what's better chasing women? You really really Just kind just of kind of. figured out like the my core fundamental sort of like dichotomy in the first four minutes of this podcast having Having you. you. I'm actually kind of lazy. I'm happy to anyway. Great and Dan's used to that. Because see does stews podcasts. Five minutes of content. Stands just got to add a bunch of sound blades. So what did you think you want to study NYU, obviously a great school? So you were a good student. I assume in high school, I was a pretty good student. I didn't try that hard but tested talking. But tested. Well, so am I think NYU I think it was more dislike? Oh, hey, like what you get you get into. This thing called GSP's is a little boring. But it's it's interesting. I'll answer the question you're gonna stink call GSP, which is general studies program when you're not officially a student of NYU, but you still have to pay one hundred percent of the tuition, and so it's their way of being like, we'll be Asher. We'll have you here. But after two years, if you don't it's like probation like after two years, if it works out, you can then transfer into one of the other schools, and if it doesn't work out in those two years, then we're just gonna say, no, thanks. So I did I did well enough which is kind of what I do and just enough to get by. And then I was on the phone. This is also like nineteen ninety eight. So it's it's not exactly I wasn't like using the app on my phone to put my classes together to some automated system, and I'm on the phone picking it, and I wanted to go into hotel and restaurant management. Okay. I like hanging out. You know what I mean and cloy hang out for living. Like hotels, and then all the classes were at eight in the morning at nine in the morning. And you remember that's like here, we go college and brand. Yes. So very last second. I was like, you know, what I'll transfer the business school. So I went to the really the the calculation was like if I'm going to be paying all this money and like going to the school. I don't really have a passion for any of these academics. I might as well just like go to the best sounding one, you know. And they've got a good business schools. One thing I will be doing business, and it's called the stern school of stern. Yeah. Which makes it sound even more important. It's very serious to like, the the p my peers in in that business school had very different sort of like they're approaching academics and their experience in that class. A lot more seriously than I was like I would say in a big lecture with a one hundred fifty people there were probably eighty people in suits..

"So yes, it's always like a friend of a friend. I'm not talking about going to business meeting or something for looked me up on global. But it's like. Yeah. In case. Both names jog your memory. I'm a big deal. Smelled like Stevo is. Okay. I'm David Jacoby. And then if you also like, hey, I'm Jacoby then that's kind of do ain't disingenuous because it's not your name. But then they'll be used. But my car the longtime. I thought that was your first name everybody does. It's really cool. I name it is my parents are just not that not that. All right. Let's talk about your parents. Where'd you grow up? I grew up in Amherst, Massachusetts, a college town UMass is there and risk colleges. They're Hampshire colleges there. It's a it's a townie. You know, like, we're wherever feel go too big schools. Like, oh, yeah. I went to like the local high school in like a sixteen that going to the frat parties and stuff. What is your what did your parents do for a living? English teachers. I guess yeah. I'm saying those teachers why don't you know, very few English teachers my dad started like transition into like writing grants for Amherst college. It's like it wasn't an in classic with a chalkboard. Been the Mr. Jacoby. You know what I mean? But like, they they sort of like, they were English teachers, okay and academics. Yeah. And academics. People never go to college college. And there's never really leave never leave yet. I was tempted. I loved college. The academics part as well. As all the other good stuff. Were you a massive sports fan growing up huge huge sports fan growing up at older, brother? Doesn't thing happened to be like pretty good athlete? You know? So I could I could. I think kids I've got kids kids like what they're good at. You know what I mean? So I was good at it. Which kind of like fueled the thing and like I lived in Amherst, Massachusetts where like Larry Bird was happening and the eighty six Red Sox. So I kind of caught I caught like some really nice teams when I was at that like eight nine ten year old age, which is like when you're very impressionable when it comes to like watching sports and the old tube. Right. And so what did you play? I've played basketball was my main thing still my main thing absolutely love with basketball played football in high school. And I also played baseball grown up in the league stuff. I played one year of the cross, which is the sport. I'm probably best that. Yeah. Like, I was good at it. I played in ninth grade. And I within the next routine to twenty dollars a team to the varsity team and then spring of sophomore year, I got mono, and then I couldn't do anything. And then was it junior year? I was like, you know, what it's nice out. There was gonna chase girls. And hang out. You know what I mean? Like, maybe I don't have to be in a sport like the entire school year. So that's kind of where my priorities lied when it came to the spring sports. And was there any interested in playing in college? No, you know, I went or otherwise. Yeah. Exactly. It not a lot of letters. Not a lot of letters coming into the mailbox know what I said. I was good at him. Good good. When I was like twelve. Yeah. Exactly like grading on the curve. Exactly.
