"This is the Larry O'Connor shell. You know again, I do appreciate and I thank again Factor. David Jack Superintendent Factor County public schools for joining us, But I just want to summarize We're things stand here is to why they had to go. 100% remote learning more students than they expected, ended up wanting to do remote learning about 33% of them and they couldn't their plan was to do exclusive teachers just for the remote classrooms. In addition to teachers to do the person classrooms for the students who decided to show up in person and they didn't have enough teachers to go around because of you know how many were going to be remote. So I said, Well, why not just Do your teachers in the classroom with live students And for those students in that classroom who choose not to show up and do it from home, you know, have that teacher turn on their laptop at the front of the classroom, and they'll be able to send a video stream of the classroom to the kids who aren't there, and the response was well because Not everyone has WiFi. Not everyone has broadband, and we would have to go through extraordinary lengths to get them the types of hardware and infrastructure so they could connect remotely. However, there now 100% remote, so they still have to do that, anyway. And that's where we kept talking past each other, and I still don't understand it to me. It's very simple. Teachers show up for work Students show up to class Those students who don't show up to class, they said that their kitchen table turn on their laptop and they can see they're very same teacher. That's their live in the classroom on a camera on the laptop. Now, why can't they do that? And and if and and I'll tell you this, and then I'll take your responses if they're 100% primary single focus was making sure that the students had the best classroom. Experience. And the best education experience is if that was their only goal. They would do it. But that is not their only go. There is more to this, and it involves the labor unions. It involves labor. It involves employees. It involves all of those extraneous issues that go well beyond just providing the best classroom experience for your child, because if that was their only goal, they'd get it done because guess what private schools have been able to do it. Then it becomes about politics and not about carrying for the kids. And he wants it to sound like he's carrying for the kids. Thank you, Karen. I'm sorry. "David and Jack finally moved out of the House a few days later. That's it's when they moved to that little studio apartment across from the Scientology building and when David took that misguided trip to the group therapy session in Venice and a few nights later. The next friend's house that they'd arrange to stay in became available and this house was up on top of a hill and had a staircase leading up to a big front yard and a literal white white picket fence like eating. Too old wooden walls like like a cabin inside. It was weird and magical and not updated and handle these old lady country features and I loved it and the way that the house positioned. Your front yard is almost like like a ramp like a like a peer looking out over the city and the sun sets in that direction. One night not long after they moved in David and Jack were watching a documentary on a Netflix and it featured a dog named Charlie and started vibrating. And I looked over and Jack is a very like I said a large person so when he heaves uncontrollable sobbing shit. You're on shakes. And he was crying so hard and I wish words like I said it's okay. It's okay and then he said this thing that was like and and I always love the way said it makes me love him. He said this this way he said I want to help another dog. They were wary of getting being too emotionally attached to a new dog too quickly so David suggested they could start by. Fostering one they reached out to this organization called Mutts Scouts which specialized in dogs Augsburg traumatic backgrounds and one night a woman from Moscow called and said they had a dog that needed to be nursed back to health so that it could be adopted out. It was a three month old four-month-old puppy it was found in Tijuana being kicked by group of children as it screamed to try and break into a church that was boarded up and it had no hair on half of its body due to a severe mange condition. The woman said she was actually the in their neighborhood and she could bring the dog over that night so I opened the door. I'm looking at the Big Green Yard White picket fence and she comes to the white picket fence. She's holding this tau. How and from the towel? I just see the Brown dog with this entirely black face with just pounds of drool pouring from its mouth. After a few weeks the dogs conditions started to improve his hair grew back. He stopped drooling and every once in a while. David and Jack would realize they should probably call mud scouts to check in but then they not making that call and we were like two or three months in and being like I mean and the dog is better we've quote unquote foster what happens now and then it just became a joke like there was never a moment where we're like. We're keeping was. He was just our dog. Frankie because what we need as time went on David. Noticed something about Frankie that would take him outside with me some nights. It's he was small for long he would be in my lap and we would watch the sun go down but then as he got older he started like even. If I wasn't he would he he would go a little around six thirty seven every night and he would run to the front yard and he would sit on the sidewalk and he was like watch the sunset you know. I don't I don't know if animals have an idea of where they're from. I don't know what their memory is like. I don't know how long they retain some some semblance of I was in a horrible place and now I'm not but there's this sense that when he goes out into into that yard and he watches the sunset that he's literally like taking some time to speak practice a little bit the gratitude. Of course that whole time living in that House I was pretty much taking that time. Have sued to write these days. David Jack and Frankie live in a small one bedroom apartment in Little Armenia. David's working working on his next book. Jack gives lessons on a keyboard in the living room and for much of the time that David and I spent on the couch recording all of this frankie hung out with US laying in writing position for hours on end as David told his story. I got such a clear sense of how much it's been shaped by brandy and her instinct for self-preservation Charlie who helped David find his own voice and when it comes to Frankie and gratitude. There's one memory in particular. The David finds himself returning to. It's actually from the night Charlie died. You know we got home that night. I walked into this house. That was like someone's and fucking like anthropology nightmare of like woven plunkett and bones and lights were off and I was just so numb Ameri Jackson someone in the House I said what he said. I'm sorry someone's been in the house and I exploded with rage age because I realized that I was probably about to see evidence of like the real estate people not having clean the house and there was gonna be someone that's fucking Taco truck refuse or whatever I don't know there was pamphlets and right as I was about to go into a rage. Jackson should Jackson crying in the kitchen and the freezer door was swinging behind. I remember it was such a funny like stage picture. I was like why. Why are you weeping in the freezer? Someone's been our house and he opened the refrigerator and he was like look and our whole kitchen was uh-huh stocked with food on the counter right by it was a huge bouquet of white flowers in clarin. Leo had come over and it's such a simple thing like food. You know him mean but it was like it was fleeting. Because I was going to I was is angry. I was going to be angry and sad for many weeks but in that moment like Oh God this is what it means to have family..

And then yeah kills spur the seal band of stuff started happening. You started reading your book. Oh my God. Yeah. Because what had happened is. We talked about. An earlier episode. We had talked about like crushes a character crushes. I think maybe it was a secret segment or something, and I was struggling to. Yeah. And then I remembered that I had this like big crush when I was a middle schooler on this character from this book series, the powers that be from Elizabeth Scarborough, and and McCaffrey, and you guys tease relentlessly about it, and Alexa, was the worst about it. And it was funny because I think she was having trouble understanding, she was like, wait. So is the seal is he a man is he like has seal like how does it work? So I said why don't I bring the book on one of the episodes, and I'll read a passage of it. And so I was reading I brought the book picked out a passage to read. And then that's when Alexis started playing careless whisper, and then Brittany brings in the seal noise. Oh, oh, and it took me a second to process it. And I just could I just died. I just like I don't know what took over me just like started. Adding. So it was hard for me because I was the only one on. On. Very hauling in. Yeah. I didn't even hear the seal sounds, so I was just laughing at careless whisper. And then a it was way late when I realize also seal noises happening here. As a little bit behind on that one. So the videos called huseband does our first our current are weirdest. So it's a public video now. And if you go to the nine minute and thirty four second Mark, you can find Andrea start talking about her seal, and I only know this because I can scroll through the video and you see a big picture of seal pop up. So I know you're talking about your boo good, good indicator. I think his name is Shawn. Dr Sean, Sean Kelly. I've never likes to put the focus that name even. Your name. I was looking on these videos, and we had some really good times. They're just thinking about her hip number nine the hippos. And we were like Brennan and plays the assassin's creed hippos chased at her story her Mario like capi and how she thinks Bari was dead. Yeah. Just like, yeah. There's some really she's hilarious. We miss. We miss Alexa, Ray. And I know a lot of you've asked about getting her on a guest, and we're working on it. Hopefully sometime in the future. We're going to be able to get her back on the show in get her get her to give some some hot takes back on what's good games at some point. But simul as the resident longest running host of what's gang gun. Is there a particular moment or episode that you were like that episode rocked? It was super fun or like that episode was wild. "Okay what is this all about is this data real and what does it mean going forward hey david jack thanks for coming on today i i wanted to ask if you get a little bit deeper into that i've seen over the years all kinds of various treatments floated out there for people who are suffering from ptsd some of it's pretty zany everything from using dm t to using magnets in the power of magnetism and just hard to know how much of it is pseudoscience but i mean this there's some real results here i wonder if you could explain why mdm may is something that actually seems to work i mean what is it doing for guys that that is helping yeah that was the thing that caught my eye too there are so many people out there who you know say they've found a better way to address pt one of the reasons is that it's a huge problem right i mean if we just look at the military and you take out perse responders and anyone else we we've probably got hundreds of thousands of people who are affected at some level and the current accepted treatment don't work very well and by that i mean that not saying that they don't work sometimes they work wonders but for a lot of people they don't people either find them retraumatize ing in of some type of psychotherapy or they they make you relive the memories over and over again right and some people for some people that's actually very effective and that there is a scientific basis and that and for some people they're just it's not and what unfortunate is the people where not affected and they leave a lot of times they're not counted in in the studies in too traumatic and they forget this i'm outta here they no longer become part of the samples.
