"The afternoon. The weekend looks great mid seventies during the day and sixties at night. Got that to look forward to all right, Brother. We'll talk tomorrow morning. Sounds good. 9 12 Now on NewsRadio, 6 10 w y o D. The trial of Derek Shaaban of former Minneapolis police officer accused of morning murdering George Floyd got underway yesterday, with prosecutors showing the now infamous video of shoving kneeling on Floyd's neck. We also have three witnesses already take the stand, and one of those three will continue his testimony today. Let's talk about Exactly what we learned yesterday as we bring in David Ehrenberg, his Palm Beach County state attorney, former Florida assistant attorney general You could follow him on Twitter simply at Ehrenberg. Good morning, Dave. Thanks for joining us again. Hey, Good morning, Manny. Thanks for the Twitter plugs. Yeah, You know what It's been so long. I think that we haven't had one of these gavel to gavel type trials for us to watch on television or yesterday, streaming. I Iive for gotten how monotonous trial could be. Although the hopes and the long winded you know, trails that lawyers and witnesses have toe to take to get to the point and have evidence admitted. Yeah, This trial is going to take weeks. But there were a couple really interesting moments in the trial yesterday. And I thought that the testimony of the E M T technician that The excuse me, the 911 dispatcher. It was a different even further. 911 dispatcher. Was scintillating because she told us for the first time that she was watching the event unfold in real kind on a camera and because the officers were laying on George Floyd so long, she thought her computer monitor had frozen. And she even complained to her supervisor about the actions of the police. And she said that the first time she had ever called The police on the police. Yeah, I thought that was pretty telling. That was fascinating. And obviously the prosecution started with playing that video, which which ended up being nine minutes and 29 seconds, Not the eight minutes 46 seconds that we've heard of so long. And does this case hinge exclusively at least mentally and emotionally for those jurors on that videotape I think the video is most compelling evidence. I think that's going to be the reason why shopping will be found guilty of at least third degree murder, in my opinion, and and maybe second every murder But, yeah, the video is the most compelling evidence. Nine minutes and 29 seconds is longer than we were told from the beginning, which makes it even worse than before. But the two areas that prosecutors are gonna have to overcome. The two arguments from the defense counsel that number one the causation argument right that it wasn't shopping, but it was really a combination of fentanyl and Nest and George Floyd system plus a preexisting heart condition that caused his death and the second argument the defense is going to make. Is that the police manual advised police officers to use that kind of technique, which isn't exactly true, but they're going to try to sow some reasonable doubt in the jury's mind. Let me ask you this because I think the first decision the first ruling the judge made in this case, not to move it to a different area other than Minneapolis was a surprise. And obviously in this, Derek Shaban is convicted. It'll be one reason for potential appeal, but Those jurors and we saw several of them during during what dear when, during jury questioning explain how scared they weren't even become jurors in this case for fear that if Derek shopping is acquitted, that there's going to be violence, and they'll be the target of it. Well, that's why they got rid of some jurors because that they did a good job. I thought on both sides to death. The jury to pick people who may have had some information about the case may even have some biases but could put them all aside and do justice and that's all you want. You don't necessarily even want a blank slate because a blank slate someone who's never even heard of the case isn't gonna be your best juror. You want someone Who says Yeah, I can be objective. I could listen to the evidence and I can follow the law. Are these jurors sequestered? Do we know that you know it's far as the sequestering out of it? I do not believe that they are sequestered. I think there was a request to do so. And you know when you sequestered jurors that also put in their mind that this is something really different, and it could work against the defendant because You could think always. They're gonna be retaliation. On the other hand, it could work. You get the prosecution. Thank you thinking that I'm under pressure to do one way or the other. So you never know where that goes, And it's a request. It is rarely granted. Yeah, The reason I ask is because that courthouse is locked down, You know, kind of like we've seen in the nation's capital since the insurrection on January six, and it's a reminder on a daily basis. Not only that, but the protesters around the courthouse Of the importance of their decision and the potential outcome for each and every one of those jurors. Right? Well, just because the jurors may not be the question doesn't mean they're not having protection to make sure that no one is trying to interfere with them. But, yes, I mean, this is unusually high profile case. But Manny, What we've learned in the prosecutor's offices around the country is that even in high profile cases you could get Juries that can just follow the evidence. Do justice. We had a very high profile police shooting here in Palm Beach County. The killing of Cory Jones and people thought we could never get a fair jury. But we did. And they were people who just listen to the evidence who have heard of the case. But they just follow the law. And that's all you can ask for. Yeah, and were able to get a conviction on on Officer Raja David. Absolute pleasure to have you join us appreciate your time hope to get in touch with you again over the next few weeks and discuss this case. Thanks. Many look forward to coming back. "Human trafficking is the business of stealing someone's freedom for prophets. Well, there Jan was Palm Beach county. State attorney David ehrenberg just on Monday made the big announcement in what was sold to us that the. Orchids Asia day spa prostitution bust was the basis of it was human trafficking. All how things have changed now, boys. Now, apparently that part of this whole story is falling apart. In fact, a lady we have on the phone right now. Elizabeth Nolan brownies associated editor at reason dot com, and reason magazine, she broke the story that everybody is picking up on now Sports Illustrated ESPN I saw last night. They haven't found any tangible evidence of human trafficking. Yes. Wow. That's that is a big bomb to drop. Right. Elizabeth? Hi, thanks for having me on thanks for being here. It's I mean that was the big link to the story that's really more than the name of Bob Kraft, and they got a big fish year. That was the part that got everybody's attention. And the headlines was the human trafficking angle of it that they they tried to tell everybody how come they can't, you know, really attach any official charges to that. Do you think? Right. Because I mean, I think if they had just announced we got Bob Kraft prostitution bust, and we wanna make that national news would have had a much different reaction than you know. Oh, we just happened to catch him as part of big human trafficking today. And they were talking about international rings people not being able to leave you know, by mid week. They have to like, okay. Well, they were able to leave. But we think there may have been other reasons why they were coerced. And now, you know, obviously, we still don't know what hundred percent what is happening there at all. I'm not trying to say that you know, nothing was happening. But yeah, police have brought no human trafficking charges one police department even said they did. But if you look at and the local news reported that they did. But if you look at the police support your wrestler and everything no human trafficking prostitution charges. Speaking of that, the Martin county sheriff from sorry, Liz, the Martin county sheriff Snyder just said that the women that they haven't custody that they thought were part of this human trafficking ring. None of them are talking. They will watch. Share? So how do you have a prosecution when they're not saying anything? Yeah. And I mean, I think they also said they said originally that a lot of the some of the women that were just workers there. They just let them go. They ask are you victims you need our help. And they said, no. So they let them go one level like good that they didn't arrest them for prostitution, if if they could have but on the other hand like, you know, if these were supposed to be sex slaves that you told us why are you just like, okay, cool. He's out right later. Here's the other thing. Elizabeth it stuck in my craw from the get-go because the details came out for our question was how do you get the cameras in there? We found the answer to that. I can't get over. This question, though, if you were so concerned about the condition here. And if these were, you know? Human slaves sex slaves. How do you let an investigation go on for six months and only all of a sudden bust everything up when you find a big name. It's really fishy to now. So that's that's kind of what maybe start looking at just critically in the first place because I've covered other cases like especially like a big win in Seattle years ago. And it was the same sort of thing we've been working on that one. I think it was over a year and these women were they started off internet recovery women. And but then it was like the cops were baking undercover visits there. And we don't know exactly what they were doing doing some sort of level of activity with them at least getting massages or whatever. And you know, and yet you didn't rescue them for over a year. And then it turned out and this other one you know, that it was because it was just prosecuted happening not human trafficking. And so that's what sort of made me think twice about this one. When they start coming out. It sounds so odd to say it, I don't mean to make light of the prostitution issue. We're not trying to do that. But there are a lot of pets fans. Like, I'm on the record is being one. I swear to God. Like, my brothers alike. They heard about your story. Oh, just ordinary prostitution fake. I know I know that's an odd reaction. But we don't mean to make light of it. No, not at all. Because it is good news. It's like, oh, it's good to know that this wasn't some sort of, you know, hopefully, wasn't some sort of horrible. Thing out of movies, right? Right. Right. We know happens all the time. And you know, I I'm in contact with a lot of sex workers. And you know, I write a lot about the sex workers. And you know, they're they're mad about this. Because they're like, look like, this stigmatizes us just makes people think that there need to save us in an airport, and then all the cops actually in the green is arrested for prostitution. So it actually ends up harming the people that are involved in this. And let's be honest Bob Kraft, not walk through those doors. Nothing would have happened, or at least it wouldn't have made national news. You know? Things a lot. But it would have gotten in in Florida. Yeah. It wouldn't be you know. Then for days at a time. This was from your story here. I don't know if you know anything about this. But there are other reports that are saying that the particular women that craft was involved with summer saying that one was fifty eight possibly was the manager another was like forty so you know, older, but they apparently had both they both had massage licenses. Yes. So I've been looking into sort of reading all the records the past two days and almost everybody that was arrested had massage licenses and had Florida driver's licenses. So I don't know. It happened one time, you know, I don't know what their status now. Licensed massage businesses by the state. What did they not raising two thousand twelve? And yeah, originally people were saying, oh, these girls, they're all of the women are above thirty and some of in their forties and fifties. Now, we're not we're not young women who were. You didn't you know, they've been people actually passed massage license exam. You're actually, but you know wonder where you wonder if they came from like another part of Florida or another state who knows maybe they got busted somewhere else and just decided to come here. Maybe. They you've talked about the video footage. They got some they got from sexual acts, but they also have been giving regular retarget. Yeah. That wasn't all of their business wasn't just, you know, sexy sex dot also, they could give legitimate massage. And they did a lot of people, you know, so. Wow. And again, you know, trying to make light of the prostitution ring here that we know it was, but still, you know, this is not the story that was actually pronounced. I mean. I mean, this is a far cry from that reportedly here. Good work, Elizabeth Nolan Brown reason dot com for everybody's picking up on your story on this. So congrats on that good work. I really thank you. You got it. Thanks for taking care. Wow. Like that. And I'm telling you wouldn't have been a story all had Bob Kraft. Not walked in interesting Ari in more than Mikey Cohen thing. It's coming up when everyone in this room to think about this the first announced witness for the one hundred sixteenth, congress is a guy who is going to prison in two months for lying to congress tonight everybody enjoy the deal, I'm here every Sunday. They should have dropped it right there. But as the day went on and talked about love child love children. It talked about uh spousal abuse. I'm like, are you kidding me? Well, at least it didn't get tawdry. Where are the Democrats in? It was all Democrats bringing it up, by the way. Where are they getting all of this information? I'm like, okay. That that was the disturbing part of it. Nothing had to be proved you could just come out and say anything. Personal attacks. But but calling himself kept on coming back to this. It's not me. I'm just listen. I'm the Patsy. And all this it cost me everything I did things and I acted improperly at times, Mr. Trump's behest. I blindly followed his demands my loyalty to Mr. Trump has caused me everything. Yeah. Family's happiness friendships. Yeah. Passi- company my livelihood. My honor my reputation my freedom, and I will not sit back say nothing and allow him to do the same to the country, but Loni baloney. Check every week. Didn't you? And this is this was proven many times on and off of the trial here. They even set it on CNN when you lose CNN you lost everybody. Yeah. This. This was all about revenge from not getting a White House job. How about that? He because Jim Jordan brought it up. He says you just ticked off you weren't invited to the dance.
