Is It Time for a Complete Overhaul of ATF? Erich Pratt Explains

"Is it time for a complete overhaul of ATF? You know, that's an interesting question that's been debated by a lot of Second Amendment activists, because you get rid of the agency, there's still the laws in place that require the job to be done that they're doing. So let me just argue. We don't do away with ATF, but there's another agency that I would like to see redone or reimagine. That's called the core of engineers, okay? The deals with our water and everything else. But is there a way to take the ATF, get it back to its core competencies and not have it be a lightning rod for the Second Amendment issues? Well, you know, I think one thing you were saying earlier, there are some good people at the ATF. I mean, there are whistleblowers that come out. There are some people that we work with. I mean, there are. But typically it's been corrupt from the top down. And that's one reason why we so strenuously, oh my goodness fought to keep David chipman who was just an anti gun zealot from being confirmed. And I'll tell you that. That right there shows that the American people voicing their concerns can make a difference because there's no reason why in a Democrat Senate. I mean, I know it's 50 50, but with Kamala, you get the tie breaker. There's no reason why he shouldn't have been confirmed. I mean, just look at every judge that Biden puts up. They all get confirmed 51 50, okay? This should have been no different except we raised such a stink. And it wasn't just us. Other gun groups too, but just rallying the grassroots made a huge difference. And so not only did we keep the squishy Republicans against camp, but we even pulled even people beyond Joe Manchin of West Virginia. There were some other senators who were also saying, I just can't go with

"On the hill. It's a publication about capital of what's going on in politics. Gun control advocates express disappointment with Biden. Talk about how Biden is not being able to pass gun control laws to do the things that they want. He promised us. Is the gist of the whole article. But what was interesting is that going through this thing, just looking at right now. The people and groups that they have quoted to talk to. Let's see. The March for our lives, people, Peter ambler, executive director, cofounder Giffords, gun control group. Let's see. Community justice action fund an advocacy group for ending community gun violence. John fine, but president of every town for gun safety, let's see if we have this quote. David chipman failing to get confirmed was probably the biggest blow that we've seen this year to federal efforts to address the gun violence, prevention, epidemic. We need a confirmed ATF director. Talk to anybody on the gun side. I mean, not surprising. But again, if you are in Congress, if you are in Washington and you review the hill, you read that and you think these people are the experts when it comes to guns. Because they're the ones who keep getting quoted. Interesting. I make sure as we went to the break, we were talking with Amanda. About becoming an advocate. And I encourage everyone to become an advocate for the Second Amendment to speak up. But part and parcel of that is you have to know what you're doing. You have to know what you're talking about. You have to be good at persuasive talk. That requires you to actually do some study to learn how to do this to get your facts straight. And unfortunately, a lot of people on our side don't know how to do it. The facts are probably okay. But they don't know how to put the information out there. I mean, if you start out with, well, that's what hinder did. Please don't just shut up. I mean, there are ways to go about this. If you start out with well, I can understand how you might feel that way. But are you aware that according to the FBI, more people are murdered with fists and feet than they are with AR-15 rifles? And then just stop. And let them look at you. Well, that can't be right. I said, well, it's the FBI's number. It's just not my numbers. Those are the kind of things that if you can do that, dispassionately, or at least not in a mean mad way, you can make some headway. And while I hesitate to say this, I think I have to say this, and that is if you feel that this is an issue where you get to bully people and push them around and try to get them to admit that they are wrong, what we need you to do is shut the hell up because you're not doing us any good. You're not doing the second memory any good. You just make it yourself feel important. If you actually want to be effective at this, there actually are workshops that are being put on. The second member of foundation puts on workshops like this. So it's time for reflection saying, am I good at this? What am I doing to be better at this? Am I studying this? Am I reading the right things? It becomes not a thing that you do, it becomes a part of who you are. In every single day, you get up and you go online and you read. Here's another little tidbit. I'm going to tuck this away. I can use this one. Oh, here's a good one. I like the way that she put that. I'm going to borrow that presentation. I'm going to do that. And then you become a more persuasive person. And that makes you a more effective person. Fair enough. All right, 8 6 6 talk done. The ATF just made a big change in the way that you can apply for NFA items, suppressors, machine guns, et cetera. We have the details on that when we come back right here on gun talk..

Multiple sources have told Politico The Washington Post and CNN the White House plans to withdrawal President Biden's nomination of David Chipman. After failing to garner 50 votes in the Senate, Chipman was unable to secure support from even the Democratic caucus. After a contentious confirmation hearing in a series of reload stories of allegations of racism on his part coming from former ATF agents. The reload stories led to calls from Republicans for new hearings and a whistle blower report being filed with the ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee in August. A black former ATF agent told the reload that Chipman had falsely accused the black former agent of cheating on a promotion assessment because he believed the agent had done too well on a section of the examination. The agent said Shipments complaint against him initiated a years long inspector general investigation against him in 2007 that sidetracked his career before exonerating him. The Department of Justice confirmed shipment had initiated an investigation against an agent over accusations of cheating in 2007. However, they would not release the report or confirm any further details about it. The department did defend shipment against allegations of racial bias. Any allegation of bias against David Shipment are false. Dina Iverson, principal deputy director of the Department of Justice's Office of Public Affairs, said at the time. And in the two times he was the subject of workplace complaint over 25 year career of the idea of the claims were thoroughly investigated and found to be meritless. That allegation came shortly after two A T F agents corroborated the existence of a separate allegation that shipment made a racist remark about black agents applying for promotions while servant of the agency's Detroit office. That story prompted all Republican members of the Judiciary Committee to ask for a second hearing on Chipman and led Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell to call in the White House to withdraw his nomination. The calls were rejected by Dick Durbin, Senate Judiciary Committee chairman who implied the sources of the reload story were made up and attack the publication for being an extreme anti gun safety website. It went on and on and on. And now Stephen Gutowski and his original reporting have scuttled the nomination of the would be 80 F Age chairman Or it would would be 80 ahead who is a gun control zealot? One of the things Chipman wanted to do, and any A T F head under Joe Biden is probably gonna want to do this is to change existing rules so that current gun owners will suddenly be criminals because of the guns they own, or the magazines the size of the magazines. They on bits of pieces of guns that they have that they all he wants to criminalize law abiding citizens who lawfully purchased guns. Now here's the thing. There's a there's a larger issue here. And I need everybody to follow along with me on this one. This is I think the important side point And it's a point that if I don't say it, it's not going to get said. Stephen Gutowski went out and started the reload, and he relied on readers and subscribers to get a site off the ground. Very much in the same way. I started my substitute Axe site. "Chapman both wanted to listen to this. Because it was extremely it was. It was just so articulate about what's at stake here. I'm so concerned about two of the president's nominees that the senate is considering. I there's tracy stone manning president biden's nominee to serve as director of the bureau of land management. I'm particularly interested in this nomination. Because the fbi manages about eighteen million acres in wyoming and huge tracts of land throughout the west under miss stone manning. I'm very concerned that multiple use principles will change and the reason is quite simple. This nominee is a radical. She's been involved with eko terrorists in the past including a tree spiking incident in idaho. Her extremist ties and past activism have even led a former obama via lam director to withdraw his support for her. Then there's david chipman president biden's nominee to lead the bureau of alcohol tobacco firearms and explosives. One would be hard pressed to identify a worse candidate for the job. According to reports chitlins may have lost his own gun while serving as an atf agent. He also failed twice to define the term assault weapon during his confirmation hearing this level of irresponsibility and lack the basic firearms. Knowledge is hardly an endorsement for someone. Tasked with overseeing gun use in the united states chipman has also reportedly accused black americans who were successful on an atf. Test of cheating because in his opinion too many were passing the test. Tracy stone manning and david shipman have disqualified themselves and are direct contradictions to the bipartisanship and unity. That president finally called for and promised in his inaugural address if these extremist nominees are confirmed they will direct their respective agencies towards ends that are actively and openly hostile to the wyoming way of life that i'm here in washington to support and defend. Why only by the way has eighteen million acres of public lands and it is a very pro second amendment state Very articulate case laid out by senator cynthia lummus of wyoming who joins us now Senator good for you. Thank you for you said there. It was very powerful What are the odds that these these nominees. We'll get through. Well the democrats stick together with a fifty fifty senate and camera harris breaking ties They can get through. And it's enormously frustrating. That democrats would allow such irresponsible appointees to be advanced and potentially To be overseeing the bureau of land management about one eighth of the land in the united states is managed by the lamb and then david chipman over it alcohol tobacco firearms and explosives because he's a devout Advocate for defunding the police And for Gun control you know. It's it's amazing. I gotta give credit. I am critical often of republicans. And i thought donald trump gave the republican party infusion of courage that many republicans live up to that point had not had on their own And i even see some kind of slipping back to their old bureaucratic swampy ways But that's certainly not the case with you Have you spoken to any a democratic colleagues about either one of these nominees and is anyone showing as any hesitancy. I mean to be involved with the group involved with tree. Spiking people can die in the process. You know those that work in the timber industry. They can die. You know. we're going to have the head of the atf. That is a staunch gun. Control advocate That doesn't work for the american people either especially states like yours. Yes in tracy stone. Manning actually lied to the committee when she testified So isn't that a crime punishable. By up to five years. I might be.
