"Both in home and quite a frame. The struggle continues. Well, that's why I gave you all the book. Relaxing in the Los Angeles. But a friend of mine we both share a friend. And she hit me you and I still. And she gave me to this book and my friend wrote this book about the next and I think you should oh wait, what? So we had that talk. So I found out who was the publisher, found out, was a police department. And I got a book. You went in the reporting mode. A vast. It could be a man's copy. I got a book. And then, you know, we got hooked up. So it's just been the book as a revelation. I don't think you have to be a next fan of basketball fan to enjoy the cast of characters. It's time period deals with. Laurie's Nick team now. The first resemblance. So I was 13 years old for the most read or Fraser, dick Barnett, David Bush and Bill Bradley Bill bae. You know, coach Brad holtzman so that was the first great team which won two world championships. The 69 70 team and the 72 7 three team. And so next I'm not a one not want a world champion season. How many years? 40, I should be better at math than this. You put me on the spot for all these people. This team. Yeah. I mean, you really tell people the time. You can't use the word if in sports. Is somebody a ball that enrolled above his leg? It's got lower did not miss fourth field goals. But this team is hard, you know. First of all, we had Michael Jordan. Yeah. He was pretty good. Go. I've got me two goals. Now look, I'm not hitting anybody, but Allie in Jordan to me. Where he goes. So this book, ladies and gentlemen, it's really been bringing back a lot of Bond memories and heartache. I.

"I mentioned that and Melissa had happened to have tipped an odor. But I knew we were talking about the pair of them. Did she tip something? No. No, anything women did win. Oh my God. He was wonderful. So but listen, again, she pulls a few rabbits out of the hat because Melissa and plenty of plenty of her selections are not particularly obvious that the first class and she does she very much does her research. She thinks outside the box. Yes, every night again, you have to tip it on songs. Yeah, you're forced into a position. Not the best data you have to take that one up. I hate, I hate doing that on talk sport too. Like genuinely hate doing almost always go against odds on favorites. And sometimes it pays and sometimes you're just kicking yourself afterwards going, what the hell? So obvious. So look, melis somebody that we'll get on the show hopefully sooner rather than later. And stop abusing Alex salmond. Do you know what, as I say that? They're not going to listen. They're just going to still do it. Because that's their mindset. So screw them. Hit the block button. No, you can do other Prius roots, too. And you're not. And praise is due to native river who I would agree with, by the way, in terms of, first of all, Colin and Joe tizard's form has completely turned around again. Another example of a yard that have turned around. Won the race in 2019. And Jon Jones junior riding a terrific form. I would prefer to be with him than protector at the prices. So we'll take the 94. Protect trans because I think it's got a fair bit to prove. I think this trip. Yeah. Imperial imperial law is the obvious alternative of noise to finish those last three starts. But I know David bass thought he was thought he was going pretty well at hater. When he came down last time I can't say I'm not saying that I thought he was traveling, especially well, although he may well have finished second in the way that given the given role of a guy at very tired and Bristol domain wasn't jumping with his usual fluency imperial law and certainly traveled okay. But it's interesting. I'm sure I heard David bush caught it afterwards saying he thought he was he thought he was taking a long and very good form. But we'll see here, but yeah, the point that he's going to fall in on Satan in 19 was the last three months. It's a bit of a concern for him. So I'd happily go for nearly instead, but it's a decent contest and it's not just a by no means a too much race. I'd love to see Sam Brian on a decent race here. I think it's a non easy task for everybody's hand is injury problems surrounds me, honey pollen. He promised me a very good stain cancer as a novice when he was coming off a long injury then as well, so I'd love to see him get his career back on track. But in terms of betting, it has to be negative. How many runs has he had? He's 9. Very few. 9. 9 years of age, 9 runs under rules. It's amazing. Never run at a point to point the run of the flat. Just quite remarkable. He's had the injury issues that he's had. So they've done well with them to win the prizes that they have one with them. So it would be nice to see him in the winners and closure. The best to look to Gordon and Tiger roll and James Bowen, great opportunity for him. Whether or not he can win is debatable, you can definitely place you can definitely get into the first three. He looks a picture. I'll put up the picture actually of myself in the Tiger as I just casually opened the door of his stall of his barn at Gordon's yard, he didn't stable one, obviously. And because he was kind of hiding from everybody as they were trying to get a photograph of him and I took him by the neck and brought him over and my good friend Jim Gallagher took a selfie with myself and the legend of the Tiger. And I've said this before as well, but Kevin Harry then goes it's all right that Kennedy did that because he's a horseman, but nobody else do that. I should have got barked for that. Imagine if he fell over, Jesus Christ. Got between his no harm. Thank God he didn't. And best looked at the Tiger, just come home safe and sound, but native Rory and I are with the beecher. Now this is going to be Rory del argue loves big handicap to get stuck into. And they don't come much bigger than the beach here. So important thing for you, Rory, is prices because that's going to have a big impact in terms of what it is you decide to get involved with. So currently, with your racing, clicky sportsbook. Snow leopard S is your 6 to one favorite along with.

"He's better at that are so for me what we're looking at. What steelers debt. As they got an upgrade on roberts blame when it comes to play down and being run stopper they got an upgrade roberts filleting in terms of calling plays and knowing the defense and adjusting to what the at you and they got a guy who can cover and maybe blitz. There's gonna be some interesting things were that we're going to have to see play out like for example. Joe schober was on a terrible defense. Was he targeted less. Because the guys around him were worse than so he was just not the easiest guy to pick on right or roberts. Blame was often hey who he had a target. You're gonna target that backup guy who's never played. Who has you know before last season had exactly one snap on defense and his career so yet he got targeted more are are you gonna see where maybe joe schubert in this defense puts up better stats you know per target. Maybe he gives up fewer completions and so his yards per target. Go down in this year. Maybe we see joe. Schubert is actually a really good blitzer and his his rush percentage in his pressure rates. Go up or maybe we see. That's not a strength of his. And roberts blaine is just a better blitzer. That joe schober. Who knows there are some leeway here that we're gonna have to find out we're going to feel out how schober fit specifically in this defense. Statistically wise like what his productions going to be as he changes roles from from. You know the jacksonville defense to this defense. But really if you watch film. He's very similar to robert splaine. So what you saw the good of robert spilling last year with a little better run stuffing That's what i expect from. Joe schubert this year which is great. That's an upgrade. That's a that's a great addition especially for the for the cost. They got him for so two round out the show into our last little segment here on go through the last rest of the position. We spent a lot of time. Joe show burton inside linebackers. How he fits in devon bush gonna be your number one linebacker if he's healthy. You know there's a chance to steelers really are trying to limit his snaps early in the season because he's not one hundred percent yet i would understand the case or if they just say hey you know what we're we're going to give you a little break. You played a ton last season or give fewer snaps. But he's your number one linebacker eastern over one linebacker show. Joe shelbert is good and coverage but there's people out there saying he's better than david bush coverage in that's just simply not true. Film does not back that up numbers. No back that up. It's just it's not true Joe showers can be number two and he's playing a lot. He's gonna play a lot. He is a veteran of the group. He's going to be that you know the the voice in the helmet. He's gonna be the guy with the green dot he's going to be calling the defense colin adjustments which is good. We need someone who's really good at that. We haven't had someone who's really phenomenal. At that sense james farrior. He might be the best at it. Sense james farrior left and that would be a significant addition to our defense in no other way. is joe schubert. The equivalent of james farrior. That wanted to be clear to say that in case people here that wrong thing. I'm saying joe schober is that good. He's not a but he's going to be the best. Probably you know that that calling captaining the defense. The james farrior dick from a linebacker position. He's probably be the best sense. James farrer left that we have doing that specific job behind him. Roberts he's he's like joe schober and i would not be surprised if they wanna give joe schober to a break. You know it would be probably like in nickel. Where roberts billion really fits in. Well roberts plays a great fit in the nickel defense At at inside linebacker. I would not be surprised to see him there where he can add his blitzing to the pile. Then you have some interesting players behind there. You've got ulysses gilbert the third. You've got marcus allen. And you've got buddy johnson buddy johnson the rookie draft. He looks good. He is more of a thumper he's going to be that guy who can who can mix it up in line take on blockers stuff to run. He's not bad in coverage either at least at the level he's playing now which is kind of the second to third string Players for the other team is what he's been facing and he's shown pretty. Well they're ulysses gilbert. The third loved what he showed as a rookie Loved it his first preseason. He looked dynamic. He got injured. He's a series of injuries. And he has he hasn't really developed and in fact this season you know. I'm still looking for him to get back to looking like that player. He looked like when the steelers had just drafted more. He looked so impressive. I don't know maybe his injuries means he's never going to get back to that ply being that player right now. He's in a battle with marcus allen. Just make this roster bush over explain are gonna make it a buddy. Johnson is is going to be very hard to knock out simply because he is a rookie and he is looking. Really good. Just not quite. Nfl for snaps on defense radhi. He looks like a guy that next year could really take a huge second year. Leap marcus allen. Played really good in very limited snaps against philadelphia. He is not anyone you want to take on a blocker. He is just get swallowed up by blocks but in space and particularly Like a dime back role where he is taking on where he's in coverage on linebackers and coverage in zone. He's really good. He showed some fantastic aggressive defense on running backs against philadelphia When he was in there against a pretty good rookie gain well for For for philadelphia. Who's a good receiver. he did a fantastic job manned up on him really fantastic work. He knows the defense. He's he's got the the i q side down..

joe schober roberts joe schubert james farrior Joe schober steelers roberts blaine schober robert splaine Joe schubert devon bush buddy johnson Joe shelbert ulysses gilbert david bush Joe showers blitzer Schubert James farrer marcus allen

"Where is the weakness on this defense. There is one in europe. There has to be one. No defense is perfect. So where's the weak spot. Well you would think going into the season that the weak spots going to be the corner opposite of joe haden because it's the least known it really is so i would list that i'm not saying that it's bad but if you have to pick a week this you've gotta pick what mak- fitzpatrick nocco say that. And then the way yet. He was used torrero edmonds to his drinks. The only other thing i would say. Is you if you have some question marks now at inside linebacker. I expect evan. Bush like i said i think he meant more to that defense than what people realize when he was gone. I've gone on and on about the sax even though it wasn't him getting this axe but he is coming off the injury. And now you have. Roberts playing next to who i've confidence in but that's what you have so i'm not saying either. Either of those spots are bad. But if i had to pick a weakness it would be one of those two and when we're talking about a weakness here people it's to me it's starting it's starters it's nine we can talk about death. Every team has depth issues at some positions. So the hind minka and edmunds yet. not good. we'll put it that way not good but at the same time. We're not talking about an assuming. An injury is going to happen. So where's the weakness in. I agree with david's cornerback. I do feel like joe. Haden still has some juice left in the tank but who's going to be opposite him. That's a huge question. Mark and then you come down that it then it could boil down to if the secondary can't hold up and speaking of the scenarios. I did this narrative that joe hayden would have more interceptions in minkah fitzpatrick in twenty twenty one. That was one of my series for the thirty scenarios. Thirty days in the more. I type is. I was thinking about this. The more i started talking myself out of either one of these guys having lot because they're going to any other quarterback it's definitely a concern. I do think this defense. If melvin ingram my gosh if he can be a part of just half the player rotational guy he and highsmith and then why all and then then front the front of kidding me with kale back. They're all back chris warmly. I meant i meant theory. Very bragging. warmly can actually stay healthy and actually contribute this season. And that's something that he was banged up a lot last year. No one really knew what they had. So i mean someone might not have understood what i said with the whole thing. We haven't seen sampling really played next to devon bush because he came in four david bush last year and played. Well we haven't seen the two of them together. That's kind of what i was saying. Not that. I think it'll be bad. But i've said this many times and i said this is something like brian. Anthony davis would say and and therefore he started saying when you're talking about weaknesses in the steelers defense. It's like talking about the ugliest supermodel on the runway. The steelers defin- yeah. They're going to be legitimately really really good. And you just hope that. They're good enough to the point where they can start to get creative on defense inc moving minkah fitzpatrick around bathing quarterbacks. And i i just. I see stats in the offseason. It was insane in terms of quarterbacks avoiding minka fitzpatrick like leg. I mean it's unbelievable on. He's he's missed out on so many of these top defenders in because they they set a number of targeted x number of times and he so rarely targeted like twenty five targets for the season. It's insane what did you happen to check out that podcast. I put it in the slack. Channel that it was the videos like four minutes in length. Mike tomlin join. Sean mcveigh and having the hearing him. Talk about just fitzpatrick while we're on the topic of defensive action defense. He said i'd sees it. I spent so much time with mega his badgering in a lot of times. You doing. He said i'm asking questions. I want to know what he seeing on certain plays because he knows how smart it hell intelligent minkah fitzpatrick is as a football player. I mean just it's tremendous stuff. It's absolute tremendous yet. Check out all right. Let's go to the last one here. The twenty twenty one. Nfl draft class won't have an immediate impact a lot of people. Not saying i'm one of them have said that they think that this draft class from najji harris all the way to traynor would nine drafted players. They're going to be good and they're going to be a draft class. It will have a lot of impact players eventually. The maybe not so much right away. I yes nausea. Harris is the the outlier here. Because i think everyone's expecting him to step in right away and be an impact player. Then get the friar music in a lot of people are wondering are they gonna run lot. Two tight end sets are they gonna have. That's where he's out there and iran's not we don't know it can kendrick green when the job out of the gate we. Everyone's assuming that buddy. Johnson dan moore junior dan more. Everyone's like oh he's a developmental tackle. he's supposed to start We we're bad..

"Walk out there and he's talking to a friend of mine, a writer named David Bush and read, Shake hands, and David says to Roger Craig, he said, You know, Roger, meaning me has been a book out. Did you know that? And Craig looks at me and he says no, I said, Have you read it? And he said, Read it to hell! I wrote half of it. You're listening to bulls eye. I'm Jesse Thorne. My guest is Roger Angel, the writer. You spend most of your huge chunk of your career as the fiction editor of The New Yorker, and I wonder of all the writers that you worked with. Who you had the most fun working with and who you found the process of working with the most rewarding. I don't think there's a single one the whole the whole process. If you get to know me in like the big this apprehension about Editors feeling out there that I mean, often shared by Writers and experienced riders that the editors tryingto ruin your great work. And some well known writers to still think this way. With my experience in the experience of the New Yorker editing fiction is that you were working again. You're working with writer about something that is so difficult. You're you're you're there with the manuscript or galleys between you and you're trying to clear up a sentence or A paragraph mostly about the tone was it too? Was it too brisk for the two tough with the too sentimental of what's wrong with this sentence? Updike was the perfect example. That really finished wonderful. Finished copy, but Inevitably, in every story. There's a place where you point out something, and they say, Yeah, I think you're right. And then he would try to do the sentence or the group of sentences over again and you will throw in your two cents worth. And then John would call up the Nikki always want the last proof that he would call up the From this place of Massachusetts, probably most the time we do this by phone, and you call it when he would have re written two or three sentences and you would write them down and they were better. Andi saw the problem better than anything that either of you been able to figure out the day before. I think A lot of readers tend to think that what they see on the page. Was always meant to be that way It was it was came out like from some beautiful four, just something out of the writer's mind in this perfect sentences. With a reading in the book and Reuters. No, let's just the last proof. That's the last stuff you had to. You finally had to your press. As the best you could do for the moment. It's so interesting on DH. The collaboration with writers and editors is very intimate. It's very strength for intimate, um, moving friendship of centered on the difficulty of writing. Well in the title piece of the book, this old man, you right kind of about you open with a Siri's of paragraphs. That's just about the wage that What 95 means to a person's body. Basically, yeah, and our thready fingers is the first thing. Yeah, exactly. And I wonder like when you wake up in the morning, and you're like, Oh, jeez, Look, the's arthritic fingers and all these different things. And like, you know, my back hurts. I don't I'm used to my muse and my fingers that so I'm not thinking about right. But like What are the things that Ah excite you enough that Ah, you're like, Hey, let's get out there and and face the day and not only get out there and face the day but like Do things like what you do, Which is to say you You still work pretty consistently and not not much. I'm semi retired. I'm just about retiring. My Isaac any worse. I'm not doing a whole lot of work. I hope I've been doing this book, and I'm going to find something else to do. But yeah, but, yeah, we're 85 95. I was still going to work which is very, very I'm extremely lucky. You were remarried recently. Like what? Early marriage? I mean, this is over, Wonderful wife where this has happened, and the peace minute covers law round eye. Say that one of the extraordinary things about being old is that the need for my wife died. And in 2012 my wonderful wife for 40 years, Caroline, I thought everything was over. But Way to go on and on door. We take this terrible losses in some of persistent life goes on inside us and we want to be connected and we want love and Intimacy and romance and friendship like everybody else, and it's a great story. It's I mean, this is just would just recently in our times that began to realise that old people are central on DH. Romantic and living. Ah, still happy to be here and doing the best they can, And this is good news for us all. Ah! On my my wife pays is a wonderful thing that has happened to me. It's It's Ah, It's just a donor accounted for is so great, but Ah, A lot of old people like this for this is how we are, And I think this is just the news is just getting out certain to our Children. Simply shocked or Children that that we're The other way we are. I quote a line from I read somewhere from the Laurence Olivier Has, he said about old age, You said inside rural 17 with red lips a great line. Well Ah, Roger. I'm so grateful for the book and so grateful that you Ah took the time to come in and talk to me about it. It was really nice to get to talk to you. Same here, Jesse. Thank you very much. I enjoyed it a lot. Roger Angell, everyone He's written several perfect books about baseball the first and maybe Still, the greatest is the summer game, but Did you really truly can't go wrong? His most recent book is called This old man. It collects some of his new or work, including an article that went viral. He wrote for The New Yorker about what it's like to be old, which is absolutely wonderful. I got to tell Mr Angel this at the end of our interview, but it was such an incredible honor to interview my favorite writer of all time. Someone who's writing actually changed the course of my life. It's funny to think that that could be writing about something as non essential as baseball, but Get wife So I'll say it one more time for his 1/100 birthday. Thank you, Roger Angell..

"We've got another half hour here keys here Kirk here. And we have a trade. The Denver Broncos traded with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pittsburgh Steelers selected pick looking like it's going to be a defensive player. The Denver Broncos have traded the pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers. For Pittsburgh pick. Please welcome back to the stage nineteen Seventy-nine Walter Payton NFL man of the year hall of Famer and Steeler legend, Joe green. Two thousand eighteen NFL. The Pittsburgh Steelers. Devon. Devin Bush linebacker, Michigan Kirk what do you got? No. So they trade it with the Denver Broncos. So the Broncos now go to pick twenty in replace of the Pittsburgh Steelers. They also get the Steelers second round pick, which is pick fifty two. They'll get next year. Third round pick in the twenty twenty drafts got traded basically three picks for Devin Bush the Pittsburgh Steelers. Devon Bush's father was a defensive back at Florida state and played for the Rams actually to if I recall correctly, so key. What do you think of the pick of Devon Bush? I like it. I think David bushes a hell of a football player. He's a lot in the clone of Deir Brooks type, not as you know, not as fast, but he he has the sideline sideline awareness athletic ability. He's a smaller linebacker five eleven two hundred and thirty pounds, but you know, in the NFL and especially with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Title. They like smaller guys. Yeah. They have a lot of those small last year in the second round dairies litter the best linebacker taking he was actually the best defensive player of the rookie defensive player of the year by the Annapolis colts. Right. Then think about this copycat league again to inside linebackers key drafted in the top team. So what was the last year? We've seen to inside not outside pass rusher. Two inside linebackers drafted in the top ten of the NFL draft. I have no idea. I'll tell you this. According to pro football, focus, Devon Bush was excellent Blitzer top-five pass rushing. Great among all off ball linebackers the past two seasons while he was at Michigan. So certainly a guy that can get to the quarterback from that inside position. Look the Steelers played at three four that you know, they're gonna they're gonna come at you from all different angles. Their defense has lacked right over the last couple of years. It's not what we've been accustomed to. Say Ryan Zere got injured in. That's what it is. The bingles pick is in. And the two thousand nineteen NFL draft the Cincinnati Bengals select Joe, William tackle, Alabama. So they you go they're going to protect their quarterback in Andy Dalton and perhaps, you know. Well, the thing about this another two years ago, they got cheap. Think about it Cincinnati Bengals being cheap. We've heard that before. But they didn't wanna pay Andrew Whitworth right in the ramp set will will pay him. He's been a amok outs for the Rams. Okay. So they'd had you know, Zach Taylor. Who was the Rams what offense coordinator where quarterbacks coach last year offense slash offense coordinator. What does he do? He says, you know, what? Yeah. I like, I need a tackle. 'cause I know what a tackle can do for my quarterback. He goes out and gets Jona Williams. It's almost like McVeigh all over the interesting thing about that last pick. Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh went up to get Devon Bush because Cincinnati was trying to replace Burfoot right with Devon Bush. And then all of a sudden they saw let me move up. Yeah..
