"The payroll, handing David Bella team minus the Cy Young Award winner. And Iglesias and Bradley and not re allocating the funds and then waiting to 100 games into the season before anything was done to improve the bullpen. But those same fans who have been critical since the off season of what wasn't done. Hesitate to give David Bell credit. For having said team 12 games over 500 in a wild card spot. Think of that complaint since the off season about this team that bullpen worst I've ever seen. The owner slash the payroll. They didn't reallocate the money. I can't believe that you like the glaciers going in and and Bradley go and And yet, through all of that, they're not 100 lost team. They're a team that's 12 games over 500. And yet it's like they believe this happened by osmosis or something, or that David Bell somehow some way is only responsible for the 57 losses, and he has nothing to do with the 59 wins or 69 wins. That's what's odd to me. No credit for having anything to do with the 67 wins, but fingerprints all over the 57 losses. No, I go back to Saturday night. It's funny. I waited and I waited and I'm still waiting. Saturday night was a game where David Bell pulled like 12 different levers during the game. And they all worked out. Haven't had one single person say. And I'll tell you what a double switch by DAVID Bell when weight Miley was in trouble, and that game was tied, and he took out Miley and took out, make one and put in Sessa and put in show Go in center field. And on the very first pitch. There was a fly ball to shallow center field that Tyler Nay Quinn would have had no chance of catching whatsoever. Show. Go on the run slides and catches it. They get out of the inning. And then the following inning. Played a little gamesmanship with the Marlins and and put up Moose and then said, All right, they're going to stay. Okay, I'll take down moves. I'm going to send up Tyler Stevenson to face the right hander, two run double. And then Lorenzen for a five out save. And you know how many people have reached out to me and said, I man, how about that? Zero? None. Nobody mentioned that. But if they lose tonight, they'll mention that it was David Bell's fault. Which I find fascinating. It's a really good read from Bobby Nightingale. Since I inquire. And since I dot com uh if you'd like to check it out, we come back. What were you doing? "Manager David Bell You opted to go with Art Warren to bring him back. What have you seen from him? That stands out and does that just kind of fill a need after as many Relievers were used yesterday. Yeah, I mean, art deserves to be here. He's pitching. Well, um, you know, we really liked what we saw in spring training. He spent time with us. You know, in the first two months, either on our active roster or on the taxi squad got to work closely with our coaches. Sweet. We've seen him. Comfortable with him. We feel like he's making a lot of progress, and we wouldn't hesitate to put them in and you know important spots in the game. He's going to get in an opportunity while he's here. Vladimir Gutierrez gets the ball today and I have to imagine you've been really impressed with what you've seen from him, even his last time out Labor a little bit in the first inning, but really seem to turn things around. Do you anticipate any nerves, making his first start here at home? I don't think so, You know, I mean, I think you know, Obviously, the butterflies are a good thing, but he seems to have that under control. He has a good perspective on it. Really? Uh, calm, you know, smiles a lot. You know he's excited to be here, but at the same time he's out there to compete, and I think that's what really stood out. Antone brings heat in push for Cincinnati Reds' rotation
"Reds played tonight and three hours against the kansas city. Royals perhaps not with these same amount of excitement as the night before her. Green and nikola delo pitched tj anton in relief last night against the dodgers and again that ended with a four four tie. I will admit to you. I get the purpose behind the rule that a team on defense can roll the inning over and basically ended prematurely as a fan. That's not much fun. Tony larussa has said as much. Tony larussa and i are on the same page about anything. That's saying something but above and beyond the outcome of the game which obviously doesn't matter. Tj antone pitch last night and he was phenomenal two innings. His fastball was ninety. Seven ninety eight ninety nine killer slider filthy curve five strikeouts two innings gave up. Just a hit. This is a guy who was a bit of a revelation. Last year made his major league debut with the reds early in the season started. Four games came in and relief and nine others and did a really really nice job. Here's david bell on what he liked from. Tj last night looks very lockton. Yeah maybe could've been the best basketball. I've seen include. Let's santa law so good last year. But his fastball of really good is everyone which means it just locked in a totally kind of grown accustomed to tj being very focused and determined so even those beverly in the spring doesn't surprise me at perching david bell last night talking about t j anto. I don't wanna make too much out of one. Spring training outing the didn't count. There is a lot of foolishness and doing that. But he is a part of a mix of guys who will ultimately answer one of the critical questions about the reds this spring. Which is who's gonna make up the back into the rotation right and even if he doesn't end up as a starter he could be a valuable member of a bullpen. that said goodbye to two quality. Relievers this offseason and rice laziest and archie bradley. But what role will tj antone bien after a good two thousand twenty. Here he is and what role he would like to be. Yeah i wanna start but wherever those. Tv's all right. Good short concise. It's the right answer. You don't get the sense just listening to that that he's going to be upset if he's not a starting pitcher but that is what he's been for most of his professional career one hundred and eleven appearances in the minor leagues one hundred and nine as a starter with different levels of success. I don't think there was anything about just looking. At his minor league statistical profile that would have suggested that he would emerge last. Year is valuable arm but he was. Era to eighty again pitched started four games when needed member wade. Miley had to miss some time. Sonny gray mr starr disc- he came out of the bullpen. Nine times and did a nice job. He'd really did a nice job last year. So now the question is does he factor into the mix a little bit more in the race to be the last starter.

"Wlw dot com and afternoon 7 35 will transition into some Bengals conversation as well. I call it the cycle of misery to hope that that we kind of rotate every year from red season to Bengal season to college basketball season, two pitchers and catchers to read season to Bengal sees it just keeps rotating. We'll do that coming up. Bottom of the hour. Let's go hear, though, and Find Erin in Dayton. Erin, Welcome to sports Talk. How we doing, brother? Alright. How are you undergoing? Great man. Listen, it's funny. It's funny. You mentioned that the red Red fans want to be like the Tampa Bay Rays. Well, if they want to be like the Tampa Bay Rays, I would say that David Bell is pretty much your guy for it. I'm well about the licks, Man. It's 2029 not 1920 anymore. The day of bunting and all that stuff is just long gone. Ah, Red skin, I think It's hard for them to move on from something like that. They they need to accept that the game has changed. Ah, I think David and I just think David Bell has done a pretty pretty damn good job with with what? With what? He's been handed. Is he perfect? No, he's far from it. But David Bell wasn't up to the plate with the bases loaded with zero out and didn't get a hit. You gotta run across the board. So, Yeah, I just wanted to call and agree with U bahn. I mean, I think David Bell is pretty much your guy. So, Aaron, enjoy your weekend. Always appreciates, goal. Highland. Thank you. He I think he's a victim of David Bell is a victim of an era that many fans don't like an air of baseball that they don't like. And so he becomes the face of that era. We want Bunz we want Lou Piniella. We want the same lineup everyday on every time I hear that I go back to and it's one of those things that stops people in their tracks. The big red machine was Sparky. In 75 76 played together 88 times. In two seasons. They went 69 in 19. The Great Eight were together 88 games out of 324 in the two greatest seasons in the history of franchise that was then this is now there's even mohr of of the involvement of analytics and the matchups and giving guys days, often realizing you'll have a better performances from guys late in the season. If you give him rest early in the season, all of that, I think is kind of scoop together into A created angst by Reds fans that they drop it the door step step of David Bell instead of at the doorstep of of what baseball's become. And I'm going to ask you. I'm not saying you have to like it. I'm saying there's a separation. It's not just I think people think that David Bell is the only one that uses analytics and the only one that doesn't have a set lineup. When the better argument is Everybody uses Analytics. Probably our halfway point of the show. Let's let's add the cycle of ah of misery to hope with our teams around here, and this question would be how much hope Do you have for an 02 and one football team? That'll be part of the equation as we continue our nail carrier sportstalk. Presented by Kelsey Chevrolet 700 wlw. News, traffic and weather. "Tying run at the plate. Jose Garcia is at the plate. Dan Winkler is throwing for Chicago. David Bell had at his disposal on the bench. Kyle Farmer. Who can play pretty much anywhere. He's played some shortstop this season. By the way, Freddy Galvis was in the game if you want to move Freddy to shortstop, Kyle complacent second base. They had. Aristide is a Kino on the bench, whose greatest successes during that that 18 home run August last year came against the Cubs and who obviously is somebody who has shown before he can tie a two run game. With one swing of the bat. They also had Tucker Barnhart on the bench. Maybe you don't want to go to the last catcher on the bench they had already used. Sally is a pinch hitter. Stevenson caught last night actually throughout Billy Hamilton, trying to steal second base. What Tucker's at least a left handed batter. Instead of using any of those guys. David Bell elected to keep Jose Garcia in the game. A guy who again this season has looked completely overmatched. He ended up hitting a very weak line drive to shortstop That was the last out of the inning. And for all intents and purposes, the game from that point wass over So, David Bell said after the game last night. Look, it's something that I thought about, But you know it isn't It's ultimately something that I didn't feel I had to do. Talking about pinching for Jose Garcia. My question simply.

"Honda dealers were visiting now with Reds manager David Bell out of the Syriza opener this four game set in the next three days in Pittsburgh against the Pirates. And David. Let's backtrack before the off day. The Red's got in a big emotional win Joey Votto lifting the Reds over the Cardinals, and you were able to salvage the final game of that Siri's. But does that kind of amplify this this playoff race that this team's in here now down the stretch? It does. It was a big win. Andi, you said it. You know when whenever you have a chance to reach a playoff, there's nothing more special than that. As a player, anyone involved or following a team that's the best, you know. And you know, we have our work cut out for us. We have a long way to go. But you also feel like you're in a position that playing Playing your best will make it happen. And you know, as a competitor, you can ask for anything more than that. You made a decision. Tio Scratch Sonny Gray from Sunday start. He will start in the following. Siri's take us through that. Is everything okay with Sonny Gray right now. Yes. You know he's not injured number one, which is really important. We've put a lot on him over the last year and a half and he came out in his last start and just didn't feel feel great. You know, the ball wasn't coming out of his hand like he needs it to like. It was good of the pictures. He is. He needs to be at the top of his game, and it just it wasn't it didn't feel like it needs two for him. So there's just there's just no way to push him through that. It just doesn't make any sense. So as much as we want him, starting as many games from here on out, the right decision was to push him back. We have the often on Monday and then I'll pitch in another big Siri's in Chicago. We're visiting with Reds manager David Bell conversation that continues next on the Reds radio network on this loads of laundry.

"The starting lineup for David Bell tonight against righty Trevor Williams Showgirl Akiyama is leading off in left field. Castano's bad second and right Joey Votto, who's 10 for 25 in his career. Against Trevor Williams is hitting third at first base, Juarez, batting fourth and third, Jesse Winker, the team's hottest hitter, right now, coming off another homer last night is de Aging and batting fifth. Nixon's L's and Center, hitting sixth. Josh Van Meter, gets the started second base after hitting a home run last night. Josh is batting seventh. Freddy Galvis is that shortstop tonight hitting a faith and Tucker Barnhart, who is really struggling with the bat right now is batting ninth. Let's talk about Tucker Barnhart and strategy last night. The Reds had Tucker Barnhart bunt. I talked about it on the post game show. I didn't like the strategy. I don't like bunting. I don't like giving away and out. I don't like giving away outs in big situations. I'm just philosophically. I'm not a bunting guy. I'm kind of an Earl Weaver disciple. If you will early Weaver, I think would rather give up one of his Children. Then give up on out Earl Weaver, the Hall of Fame manager, the Baltimore Orioles, not a big fan of the bunt. So there's other options. You're you don't have any confidence in Barnhardt swinging the bat, then bring somebody to the plate who swings the bat better even if you lose the platoon advantage because You're losing the platoon advantage anyway. When you decide to have Tucker Barnhart bunt, not a big fan of bunting. Um, some of the other stuff from last night. I'm not gonna crush David Bell for pinch running. For Joey Votto put Travis Jankowski and at Trovato want to start the eighth inning because of that the end of game getting the tying run at third base. If sends, l does his job with less than two outs. They tie the game. Maybe they still take the lead in the eighth inning. Vado never comes to the plate. Reds win the game in regulation. We're not talking about it as much David Bells get on offense here that is struggling for runs their feast or famine. They strike out a ton. He's trying to create something. I'm not going to crush him for that I will for the Barnhardt thing in the ninth inning. Because I just I'm not going to give away an out and again if I'm going to lose the platoon advantage, lose the platoon advantage and have Matt Davidson hit or Philip Irvin hit or Curt Casali hit. Also in the ninth inning, he had Christian Cologne, batting with one out and the bases loaded, trailing by a run. Christian Cologne is basically the last guy I won batting in any situation. I'm looking for somebody who can hit a fly ball. Matt Davidson to me is on the team because he can hit fly balls. I tied the game and then who knows what happens? I've got to put his stallion anyway, because I've pinched run for Barnhardt. I just thought that the ninth inning was badly mismanaged by David Bell and I get the frustration and impatience with him, and I share it to a degree. But let's be honest. If we were to talk about issues, you know what pointing to why this team is sitting there at eight and 10. At the end of an 18 game stretch that we thought was going to go so much better. Is it on David Bell? Or is it on a bunch of guys came back coming off either Good seasons. Or got paid a lot of money to come here or have had great careers who are doing next to nothing this year. As much as we slobbered over Joey Votto hitting a walk off double the other night. Joey Votto, coming off arguably his worst season ever, is putting up numbers this year. That are basically the same as last year. You Hani. Oh, Suarez is batting 1 15 He has struck out 22 times in 61 at bats. Shoko Akiyama did get on base three times last night, which is great. That's why he was brought here. That's why they paid him $21 million. But coming in the last night is on base percentage. Was 3 19 Nixon's L Offensively. Underwhelming. Freddy Galvis Long home run last night. Let's be honest. Offensively. Freddy Galvis is Zack Cozart. That's not a compliment, and Mike Moustakas has played a whopping seven games out of 18. He's gotten 21 at bats Total. Nick Cassidy Honest has cooled off a little bit. That's okay. Jesse Winker started slowly He's now hitting well. Give seen firsthand Now what I will say about David Bell in his usage of the benches. Dude, you got a bunch of four. A guy's on your bench. That bench is very underwhelming. I'm not really sure why Aristides Aquino can't get a shot. I would give Tyler Stevenson a chance to catch a game or two. But you've seen how bad this bench is, If the idea is take some of these guys out of the starting lineup, who are struggling OK, my question then is to put in who What we can we can pick apart David Bell. We can lose our minds over the bullpen. The reality is this team spent a lot of money and is spending a lot of money on guys, not just from the outside, but guys who have been here for a while to produce. Very few of them are I don't care how good or bad your manager is so much. I don't care how much you want to beat him up or fire him and replace him with somebody else or argue about bunting. Big picture. This team's biggest issue is its offense is almost non existent. And it's basically homerun reliant. And I know you could say that about a lot of teams because we're in the three true outcome era of baseball. This team doesn't manufacture. They don't play a little ball it all and I'm not talking about bunting. If the ball's not flying over the fence, they don't score. And frankly, the ball isn't flying over the fence enough. And it's not about one guy. Everybody loves to pick on Joey Votto. It's Vado Suarez. Show. Go sends L Galvis. And Mike Moustakas simply because of his lack of availability..

"He's going to get better. 13 runs have been given away by this team. This team's not that good to do that. They're not good enough to do to give up 13 here. Take him. Here's 13 runs you didn't earn. We're going to give them to you. Thanks to our defense. Here's what else I don't get. I was assuming as the seventh inning unfolded. If David Bell wasn't going to Amir Garrett that America it was going to be placed on the injured list at the end of the game. He would have gone a week without appearing in a game and I'm thinking, all right, they'll do it retroactively. It will be on it back spasms or something or so soreness or there'll be something because if he's not coming in in the seventh after a week, then there's something wrong with the mirror Garrett and they'll finally disclose it and just retroactively place him on the injured list. David Bell bypassed a mere Garrett to put in Lucas Simms and then bypassed a mere Garrett to pitch Nate Jones in back to back nights. Nate Jones, who's coming off arm troubles and whose whose career has been derailed over the last three seasons by armed troubles, you could look up in his career at least in the last three years. How many times Nate Jones has been called on to pitch in back to back nights. Very few and far between. And yet tonight David Bell went toe Lucas Simms and tell me that at bat with the bases loaded. Tell me you talk about Paul Brown. The game didn't look too big that the game look too big for Lucas Sims in that battle on them out with the bases loaded. And then he went to Nate Jones. They come back again. And then finally He went to a mirror. Gary, if you were going to a mirror, Garret when you were losing 42 why won't you go into a mirror? Gary, when you were winning two to nothing. Somebody would have to explain that to me. I have no explanation. It was nice to see you any with scores Crush one. And I mean, just beat the daylights out of one centerfield 109 miles an hour. Off is bad Exit velocity. Ah, lot of thoughts coming into the game. You know, Suarez is three for 35. Does he need a day off? Winker is two for 23. Does he need a day off or do Soirees gets a hit home run goes one for four. Winker gets a hit. 143 before being removed. Castillo or Castellan Castano's Just Just hit an absolute Titanic blast first inning. Eat 11 straight games. He's hidden Nick Castano's now is tied for the major league lead in home runs with Aaron Judge at six. When it's all said and done, and I know they were. They were facing Shane Bieber. They scored two runs and collect five hits. It's awfully difficult to win games when you collect two runs on five hits..
4 Cincinnati Reds players, including Joey Votto, take knee during national anthem
"Reds players Joey Votto, Amir Garrett, Philip Bourbon and Alexa Blandino took a knee during the national anthem prior to the Tuesday exhibition game. The one player that received most of the media coverage nationally with Joey Votto because he's the face of the franchise. The players lined up alongside the first base line in an empty stadium. Urban Votto Garrett Blandino. Mike Moose tacos to put his left hand on urban shoulder. Cody Reed put his hand on Garrett Shoulder and Sal Romano put his hand on Blandino is back, and the manager David Bell is a very good man. Still, alongside the players took any Right next to Blandino. And after the game and a postgame Ah, little get together, David Bell said. Quote. The 60-game MLB schedule is out! Here's what you need to know and the big matchups we're circling
"So here's what we know on the surface as we wait the official announcement of the other fifty nine games on the red season. We know it is sixty games. We will run through September twenty seventh. In terms of regular season, we know the reds are playing the national league central, and we know they'll play the American league central by the way if it's reds tigers opening day. What about Luis Castillo Versus Matthew Boyd? Maybe I'll ask David Bell about debt. I'm sure there's nothing David Bellwood. Rather be asked. Hey, schedules out officially. Who's your opening day starter? That coming up at at six thirty five, we know. NL Central Ale central. And I looked at what has been released from the national. League east, there were not six game were not six game ups against rivals. There was a thought in one stage of this process that they might make your natural rival at six games here in. Essence the reds and Indians playing six games three here three there in the early schedule releases. Six matchups during the season, the early proposal was going to be six versus your biggest rival, and then maybe lop off to against somebody else in that opposite division in this case being the American league central. We're waiting on that cubs, colonels, pirates brewers ten times. Each Butler tells me. "Fluoride protects teeth from the K. so public health officials celebrate what's been accomplished by putting it in many water supplies but Christine tell a psychology professor at York University in Toronto also wondered about potential downsides it's important that decisions about safety it needs to be based on evidence and evidence is thin when it comes to pregnant women and their babies so tell inner colleagues analyzed data from a research project involving more than five hundred women and babies living in six cities and it turned out that about half of the sample where cities like Toronto where they add fluoride to drinking water and the other half like Montreal and Vancouver were cities but you're not tied Florida drinking water that give her a sample with the whole spectrum of fluoride exposure the scientists measured fluoride both by estimating water consumption and by measuring fluoride in urine samples as the team reports now when the journal Gemma pediatrics it appears that higher levels of fluoride lead to lower I cues in the children only boys are affected when we looked at urinary fluoride that both boys and girls were affected when we looked at maternal for it in check our water fluoride concentration the difference was typically a couple of I. "On seven hundred wwl. W sportstalk, I'm Lance mcalister, Gary, Jeff Walker. I do believe at nine tonight. Yes, sir grant. Ed confirming nine tonight with Gary, Jeff Walker the nightcap reds lose today. Eleven to nine. Here's the cliff notes version of what happened al-savah the pain and misery of having to relive all of it the reds begin the day with Louis Castillo on the mound there as the brewers begin the day with Zach Davies amount there as to starters, earned-run average is under two. So what happens twenty runs scored on the day. The red scored five in the second, they led five nothing. They led six to one Lewis, Steve did not make it out of the third inning. He needed seventy four pitches to get eight outs. He left with two outs in the third five hits four runs. Three walks. Two homers both on changeups and hit by pitch. And yet, the reds. Once it was tied at six six regain deleted, eight six a glazed to the rescue, again. A two out two strike two run single. But the brewers answered that tied the game, and then eventually took the lead, and they win eleven nine today on a day where the reds have eight different players, collectives, eat eleven hits nine runs, but the bullpen gives up seven runs over the final five and a third innings, the safter noon reds with their ace on the mound and leading five nothing in six one lose dropped twenty two and twenty seven Castillo his eleventh, start clearly his worst start admitted after the game, he didn't have it from the first change was not there from the first pitch. He had to, to both home runs were on changeups. That doesn't happen did today. They've now lost games. Twelve to eleven eleven tonight after always said about the offense and understandably so they've lost twelve to eleven eleven nine this year cow, Joey Votto had a hit on a to strikeout. Day there. Dietrich head to its glazed three hits. Now hitting three three Josh Van Meter hit a walks whereas a hit no walk Winker hit and a walk. Sizzle rough day. Oh for four with three strikeouts. Juan de Peralta was beat up the most out of the bullpen. He got one batter out and give up three hits four runs. Hit a batter and a home run. I'll go back to this on, on David bell people get mad when, when the relievers don't do their jobs. And I don't know why they don't get mad at the relievers when they don't do their jobs. They get mad at David bell when they do the he had one of the best bullpens in baseball to begin the day, and they all got hit everybody not named what was it? Jared hughes. And I think I think, well, Robert Stevenson was unscathed. But Lorenzen gave up two runs. Peralta gave up four runs. Hernandez gave up a run in less than an inning. Nobody gets mad at the pitcher. So obvious to me in what I deal with. So I speak specifically in this city how much reaction in criticism is for the manager verses the performers he didn't begin the day with the worst bullpen in baseball. And they didn't get anybody out. He began the day with one of the best bullpens in baseball and they didn't get anybody out. Why isn't that one Peralta in David Hernandez? And Michael Lorenzen 's problem. They're the ones who didn't do their job. David bell took the one of the best bullpens in baseball and gave his guys their assignments, get these guys out. They didn't do it. And yet, they would get yelled at it's, it's odd to me. I credit done with setting up our topic tonight, I will admit going into this. I was a little bit hesitant. I was fearful I thought this was going to be a blood bath tonight. I thought it was going to be angry. Caller after angry caller after angry caller calls for the dismissal of people. The trading of people. The release of people declarations the season was over and yet in the first hour, the developing theme was not acceptance, but of optimism and Don set the tone for that better than I could as Mr. happy done said. They just went four and four against the three best teams in the National League. What exactly is the problem? Now, I know you're already yelling. If you like mediocrity. Understand. Let me let me try something simple. What would happen if everybody played five hundred baseball against the best teams in the league, what would their records be? You know what I'm saying? I mean it's like people don't think it's a big deal. They just went four and four against the cubs. Dodgers brewers. What if everybody went five hundred against the cubs? Dodgers brewers. Is what I'm saying. I'm trying to simplify this. So it's, it's understandable of not to not to really give them credit but offer understanding. They just played twelve games against the three best teams of league and they played them to a standoff, you get four winds. We get four wins. Now, admittedly, there's a problem when you start one at eight with that theory, yet, I will again, restate, if you look at it as a matter of survival and hanging in there till scooters back and those five mentioned start to hit. Would we not look back and say, man, it's a good thing. They were able to survive that stretch. Lance talked about twenty three of twenty six games against winning teams that could buried them. Could very well could very well before it's all said, none bury them. It could be the, the stake in the heart, but it hasn't to this point they've gone for and four. Does it show of hands accepting or rejecting that if you're rejecting it go, yell at Don, don't you let me five one three seven four nine seven thousand one eight hundred the big one and pound seven hundred on AT and T. I said earlier, if I'm David bell. I gotta move joy down. I have to. I don't think it's fair to the rest of the lineup. I think it's insulting common sense. And if you're going to manage driven by the analytics, there's, there's no analytics, there's no computer that would spit out batting order, which vodka. Continuum it hit second. It doesn't mean that we don't like Joey. It doesn't mean we're disowning Joey, it doesn't mean the reds David bell or giving up on Joey it. Does mean in the month of may eleven for sixty nine and he struck out twice as much as he's walked. So how can you continue to run out a guy the number two spot on your order? When he's getting on base twenty seven percent of the time. Not thirty seven not forty seven. He's getting on base twenty seven percent of the time, which makes him an out maker. In the top part of your order. I would drop him down. And I will I will continue to maintain this on Sunday with your other Cody readers. Zach Duke offense Zach because he's hurt but I I don't understand. If Cody read is a lefty who can give you multiple innings on a team that uses its bullpen a lot. I don't understand why Cody read has to come up and go down and come up and go down for bits and pieces and spurts and and like bandaging a tire bullpen for a day, or so it would seem like it would just make a lot more sense, whether that's Zach Duke or alternately Juan Peron, Walton. One de Peralta now because he's had his head handed to him. The last two starts there has to be some way, shape or form. Or Cody read is a full time resident of the Cincinnati Reds, at least until he proves otherwise. Because to me. One of those valuable commodities on this team would be reliever who can throw multiple innings. Go back to the phones. How about Oxford we go? Gabby you on seven hundred wwl w Kay. How're you Gabby? I'm very well. And I'm very appreciative. Right now, but I have very negative as far as. Because you cannot rely on that all. Okay. One positive. Are you today at a knife on him? The fourth section. Very good article endured Dietrich had two more hits today at another walkie keeps doing this doing his thing for this team. One time I met with the kid thing. Yeah. Today's later and he has number twenty two. Realize wait a minute. He's the almighty God for the opening day. One issue, going for you. And that's gonna make you so good. Mike has book in the twenty second daughter about the golden child. That number. And then number. Wait. I like Gabby. I'm glad you loose on. Sure. Yeah. Employed. All the negative, Pete Rose. She baseball player he is. I highly our manipulate and south up there when he's getting ready to hit that ball. He knows. He is body. Glues into alley is that ball, people need to see why gun for nation that P the kick on skits on base. One nation stopped with a home base. Basing good home, and that's one of the major downfall. Cincinnati has Gabby. I'm gonna the way this is going to make you the reds assistant hitting coach house that, hey. Gabby. It sounds like it. Hey, I enjoy this call again sometime. All right. All right. Thank you for the call dairy snifter Derek Dietrich has exactly one hundred bats this year. He has twelve home runs. Let me do like my Butler, man if he has five hundred bands at this rate hit sixty home runs. His is over a thousand for the lyrically sabermetrics challenge over a thousand is really good. In one hundred bats twelve home runs. He hit one today. He winds up with with to hit day, two hits a Homer, and believe, yes, he had a walk as well. How about let me let me talk manager. I wanna talk 'cause I it's. John God blessed fame, when the when the Twitter follower tweeted the John during the game. David mount should be fired. John, just I could tell just calmly. He's probably set in front of his keyboard in typed. He's he just signed a three year contract and the reds have a winning record in the last forty games who would fire their manager. I just I get I understand. I can be very impatient person. I don't like traffic big crowds. What I don't get is how any human being with any working knowledge of the game of baseball would draw conclusion that at this point the answer to what ails the reds is the fire the manager forty nine games into the season. I I I'll say this again slowly. Over the last forty games, they have a winning record who would fire somebody with a winning record over the last forty games in a forty nine game season to this point. It just I, I can't imagine what those people are like live with. I mean, can you imagine waking up every day or working every day with the person who's thought is just the snap decisions of fire him and bring in somebody else? It one handed infuriates me on the other hand, it just makes me laugh out loud about ridiculous. It is marks on a cell and on seven hundred wwl w Mark, you know, Lance, this constant badgering and complain about the manager reminds me the kid third grade nail across the chock. I just it for whatever reason people get off on it that they just think the answer is the fire the manager. I just I don't get it. I read, I'll tell you what I think the big problem is. I don't think I don't think there's a reluctance to admit maybe your talent just isn't that good. Yes. Yes. And that's the real that to me is the real issue. And and you know this morning, I looked at the staff at the reds team. Batting. Thirty thirty teens and basically twenty two out of thirty teams run score that does not transfer into a win ball club. No. In. It's not the manager manager doesn't go up there and hit, you know, basically, basically, Joey Votto, and we've talked about that, and the issues there. But the reds outfield really the last two years. And so far this year has been just an incredible disappointment. I mean that outfield right now where they, they must be hitting a combined two twenty. And you know again, I don't care, Joey Votto gets hot at the outfield doesn't start hitting better. It's not gonna make any difference. Yeah. I mean they they went out they made this trades right now. Trades really haven't worked. I mean plea has had a few moments here and there, but he's, he's not hitting the ball consistently. I mean you know, he's gone. They're hitting to nineteen is a team, you could you could bring backs perky Anderson. What would you what do you think he's going to do with the team that hits to nineteen? There's no strategy in the world. That manages around two nineteen averages a team. You know, I think the problem the problem is I'm just remember with sparky always said great players made him. You don't have you don't have Johnny bench behind the plate. You don't have Pete at third. You don't have Joe at second. You don't have Tony Perez. First. You don't have four hall of famers or five hall of famers in maybe six Davy Concepcion should be in the hall of fame. You don't have that these guys are not hall of fame players. Hey Mark, I gotta run to news. I enjoyed this. Look forward to your next goal. Thanks. Have a good night. All right. Everybody's fired up. Now let's go seven Twenty-three on way late. He said he can always count on AG to shut it down. Close them down. I love it. And I just wish Amir Garrett would look at every team. He faces is the Chicago Cubs. Maybe it's the blue in the dodger uniform, something about blue turns Amir Garrett on I absolutely love it, six strikeouts. In his last two appearances unbelievable. The dude is absolutely awesome. He is so tall so angular in so strong and curve comes in lookout lefties here. It comes AG shutting down the dodger blue. I love it. Let's go out to the phones. Mike in Fairfield, Mike. What do you say brother, kicked her? All right, man. Hey time they beat the dodgers. Absolutely. I mean, the one of those. LA and glaciers get away. But you know what? If they can win needless ways to against the dodgers forward to homestand against teams. We'll take that we will. Yes. And the pitching. It's great. Molly finally got a win that he deserved about two or three others. Yes, he just one pitch here there. And the same thing with sunny great. They have at least three wins both of them and not for losses. But boy, belly was except for what he wild of a third inning that they didn't really touch him all day today. You're absolutely right. Any look at the confidence the maturing of the guy throws strike. Yes, he does with his stuff. Thrown strikes did it ahead of the hitters and he looked. I was really happy to see David bell. Put it. What him go after the sixth inning. Yes. And there was no reason not to, and he was just outstanding. So if distinct could ever now they didn't they didn't hit the ball. But today they got three hundred runs the air really helped absolutely. And we're gonna we'll get into that. Yeah. But still, they just that this is a good quality defensive team and pitching, obviously, when the way of time on the. What they think the may nineteenth, whatever it is. That the reds had six shutouts. I know. Just it's incredible. And of course they've been shut out. I think six or seven times that's gonna stop but the hitting get better. I can't wait for students to get back. They have really missed him. You know they have. And gosh, is he gonna ride in on a white horse and save this? I don't know about that. But he's got a workout here. What do they do with Peraza? There's, there's several they send him about the differences center between Nixon sell in scotch chevalier. Get the ball. Yes. The hardest hit bowl, the dodgers, eight all day since they'll rent it down. He did he really did. And he can steal bases. And he cutting player getting better pitchers and, you know, here to get around the league and learn him, and then he'll learn them and it takes a while. But the kids in lead if he can just stay healthy, would you have triple do in the minors? But he'd gonna wanna talent. There's no doubt about that. Oh, doubt in his baseball like us. Knows how to play the game. And that's the thing, what would Janette out what a bonus Iglesias has gone to ninety and, and a great shortstop which we knew he can do that. Goodness, if Peraza started hitting and Votto. I mean this team still isn't there yet, but he's getting there. But I'll tell you the, the potential. I don't know if like the one Cohen said, I don't know if they get a wildcard, but I think they can they can finish at least third in this division. I think they have. Yeah. They can pay Pittsburgh in the cardinals. I really think they could the cubs Burs are tough. Hey are but, but I'm telling you now the cubs losing today. So that's good. I team. Like you said, and like I've said, they gotta get the five hundred soon as possible. If they do that, boom, I think they'll take off and stay there. That'd be awesome. Yeah. Washington nationals have afforded nothing lead in the nation's capital. The Cubbies pitching real well tonight. It's going to be tough for the cubs to get much. The red. Twenty one and twenty five and kill me. They're not better than that. They all this. Yeah. I mean this pitching holy mackerel. Garrett looks. Again, flipped panders. What that fast ball they got. No. And you really confidence down that he can just go out there and throw strikes and get people out, you know, and that's, that's half the battle right there. So he sees blue and he sees red. Oh, yeah. You would he do. Right. If he pitched against everybody else pitches, a good succumbs. We did something really big put on sunglasses with blue in where the think Tomase. Oh, yeah. Ban. Those dodger lifting his down. It all started against Anthony Rizzo. Gosh. That's right. That almost do. I'm telling you and relive the guy but I don't think he won't be any part of their Darrell. Yes. Man. He's a he owns the pit bulls. And he's one to the hell we played basketball. Stone. So and, you know, they the bullpen if they can get when they get good starts thinking just ship to their. I would be interesting to see just one time, you know, like pulling what Oakland or Tampa would do one or two innings with a reliever starting God. Who would you start with? Depending on what one of his near the team might be Garret. You know. I mean leave leave her alone. Leave him where he is. Yes. He's very good there. But I'll tell you what an Stevenson seems found his niche, you know, he wouldn't work it out as the starter. But he'd get great state got great stuff on his pitching, staff and Derek Johnson. Doing a great job as the pitching coach. David bills learning is pitchers when to take him out who to put in, you know, so as long as you get good pitching, you get chance. No doubt you got what get the dodgers again? Tomorrow, who do they play when they go on the road ever that cubs next wheel walk for to Milwaukee yet? They're off Monday and Thursday in between games in Milwaukee. Tune in three and Sukur correct day road trip in home with the pirates suckers. Page out. Okay. Make much appreciate it. Mike. "Once he gets into the big leagues. Once this perk is fed the ball perk is factored in once. He gets comfortable. Jesse weaker has the swing that will lend itself to hitting maybe twenty home runs or so I'm not predicting twenty or so I'm saying now Twenty-eight games into the season. He already has eight and after starting the season one for twenty four one for twenty four Jesse Winker is bouncing back. And he leads this team at home runs with eight. After tonight, also do not lose sight of this. This what the bullpen did tonight. Now, mardi brought up the question to the cowboy it was a fair question. Can they continue can David bell continued to do it this way? Probably not. He used five guys tonight. The bullpen. What it was all said and done though, gave him five and a third innings of to hit. No run seven strikeout. Baseball Peralta, a third Lorenzen inning in two-thirds Garrett. Two-thirds Hernandes two-thirds glazed CC brings on the eighth gets out works around the one out double in the eighth inning. Then blows away the side. How many times his Iglesias struck out? The that's the in that the fourth time this year. I'm going to say because they need to it three straight. It was nine. Yeah. So I think this is the unless I missed one earlier, it is appearance is that my guy Steven sharp probably working on that already. I think that's the four-time. He struck out the side in the young season in the reds relievers. Pickup Tanner, Roark who didn't have a good night three and two thirds innings four hits four runs. Four walks out. The the weird thing is Taylor or headed eight pitch. I like, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. But one two three done. Then he needed eighty pitches to get the next eight out of the game. And he was gone with two outs in the fourth. That kind of night reds lead four nothing reds were tied four four reds win. Five four is Winker homers off the Mets closer in the night thinning. So they went on the road where they have struggled their five and ten on the road. They went in a one run game. Or they've struggled there. Now four and seven and they went in the National League east is is Tommy throw pointed out there now six at one. Again, I don't know about you. I like to petition the baseball gods to move the reds out of the central movement of the National League east. There are three gazillion losses in the in the National League central and they're six one in the National League east Peraza to hits glazes to its pick up. Jose Eglesias has been for this team. Joey Votto was one for four with the walk Scott shetler. I know in the crosshairs of everybody over to he did walk twice. He did score a run reds collect nine hits on the night..

"I figure our topic of conversation. Well, it will be a variety of topics ranging from your choice. David bell the offense specifically the outfield, maybe more specifically Scott Schindler maybe more specifically the leadoff spot. And I'm sure we'll toss in some conversation about the bullpen who would have figured the reds would allow and I told you going in back to back nights. She would hold them. A walkie brewers. In that ballpark to four runs each night and lose both nights. You would've said what four games into the season the reds. Stay in one and three they've scored just eleven runs in four games. They've allowed just sixteen runs in four games. My butler. Matt tells me that's four runs a game. You figure going into the season Lance one of Fred's pitching allows only four runs per game. I sent up take that one in three. Let me let me let me say this. Because there's there's a word that a buzzword used at times like this that I I've never understood actually I understand. I don't understand the application of it in this case. I hear a lot of this. It's early relax. What let me be clear. There is no I've got a bunch of buttons here in front of me. I'm not another panic buttons that I'm pushing. I'm not panicking. I'm not calling the season over. I'm not waving a white flag. But I don't understand those who say it's early because. There's one hundred sixty two games, and they all count the same in any wins. You get now are wins. You don't have to chase later in any losses. You take. Now are games. You can't get back. I I it's not like Kroger fuel points. You can't get double wins later in the season a winning loss. Now is like a winning a loss in July or a win loss in September. So I've never understood the application of early in baseball. It's early there. One in three that's three losses. They can't change. You see what I'm saying? That's like that's a pet. Peeve of mine where to begin David Bill. I don't understand taking Anthony disco Fonte out. I'll say it up front because there were there were no warning signs. He had gone five innings of three hit one run baseball. He had walked three. He had struck out eight. I thought his curveball was really good. He was getting swings and misses on his curveball tonight. He had thrown eighty nine pitches. That's not. I mean, he went one hundred pitches. A couple of times last season. And I'm not asking him to go one twenty what I what I would like to see is led him explore the six with an opportunity to show he can get through it. And if it's a base runner if it's a walk of it's a single then you go to the bullpen. David bell went to the bullpen. Pinch hitting for Anthony funny after five innings the fifth inning was an easy one two three inning. I I looked it up. It was a pop out a fly out in the ground out the batteries. He would have faced in the sixth inning were hitters number four five and six in the order. They were one for six against him with three strikeouts. And yet he didn't give him the chance to go back out into the sixth. And I would suggest for a team that has had a head starting pitchers. Go five and two thirds two and two thirds four and a third if you're pitcher tonight is cruising through five striking out eight showing no signs of wobbling in the fifth in already showing he is handled. What he's going to face in the six. I would not have pulled in David bell pulled him. It did not work. Zach Duke took over a walk in a single couple ouds. Michael Lorenzen comes in writing versus righty. I I understand that aspect of wanting to do that. I just would not have gotten to that point. In our see gets his first head of the area was oh for sixteen. Interestingly enough he was four for nine lifetime. With a Homer against Michael Renzo for for a coaching staff at a manager that that uses analytics seemingly as much as they do. I found it interesting that I believe going into that at I'll check I don't think it was updated that quickly. But I think it was four for nine lifetime versus Michael Lorenzen. With a Homer that made it for two one read scrap back cut it to four three had a chance of the night. But it was Josh hater who did the damage also say this. It was curious to me, and I did not hear David talk about this in the post game a glazed lead off the ninth with a single representing the tying run took a burner came up. And I want to say he took I think it was taken strike one. And then he attempted to bunt on a one. I don't know. I would be surprised if David bell told him to bunt gave him the sign of bunt at a one. I wonder if that wasn't Tucker taking upon himself in a you know, look and see if I can't remember if Tucker was swinging on the first pitch or took the first pitch for a strike, but he attempted to Bunn on a one which would seem odd to me if it was called by David I'm trying to pull this up here. It was it was strike one looking so on a one he attempted in bunted foul. I'd be curious to know who's decision was at the reds leadoff hitters this year. Do not have a hit there over thirteen. That's Winker twice in Chevron twice reds outfielders not named Yossi. Oh, we have zero hits Winker is over nine Schindler is over fourteen. Kemp is oh for aid Puig is three for fifteen added up reds outfielders three for forty six on the season. Reds pitchers continue to walk batters by game. They've walked seven seven five and seven. And what do we talk about last night? And what has been the early theme? What thirteen to their first sixteen or against the National League central division. They struggled against the central last year struggled in one run games last year. So far this year. They're one and three against the central their own two in one run gapes. If you're wondering about options in center field, the the only option I'm looking at right now would be Philip urban and sending Scott shetler down unless you unless you're gonna start Michael Lorenzen in centerfield Puig didn't play centerfield in spring training. They're not putting him in centerfield. You really not gonna put Jesse Winker in centerfield. So if your frustration is with shetler who's not hitting in the the the sad thing is he tore it up in spring training. If your frustration is with shetler and over fourteen and some really bad at bats than the option would appear only to be if he goes to the bench. Somebody's gotta play centerfield the only option would appear to be Philip urban being recalled and in Philip hasn't played in a game since. Well, since when they sent him down last, but the final cut would have been last Tuesday or Wednesday. So as played in a week. I think we're set five one three seven four nine seven thousand one eight hundred.

"Contractors residential commercial industrial servile serves it all reds trailed three nothing after the brewers had batted in the first inning reds chipped away. Score two runs of the fifth. They added the tying run in the six. They went tied to the ninth with two outs gives up back to back doubles to Christian yelich and then Ryan Braun for a four three brewer lead reds put the leadoff batter onto the bottom of the ninth. Kurt Caselli doubles. They pinch run for Michael Lorenzen. David bell ops to not bunt with shetler vitamin tweet. Coming up Shutler strikes out vodka flies out to left. Puig pops up foul ballgame over four three the final in a game that lasted three hours and thirty one minutes that was witnessed by the smallest crowd of the history of great American ballpark seven thousand seven hundred and ninety nine but they were a vocal crowd when it came to the Wu which seemed to drive people nuts tonight. The other bad news hundred green, we'll have Tommy John surgery. He is done for what we can assume as the next at least the next twelve months. All right. A quick follow up a John Fay, ask David bell. If he considered having shetler bunt in the ninth. He did. But quote now, but we didn't for several reasons chief among them was likely that hater stuff is so nasty. Again, I get everybody thinks it's easy to bunt square round. And turn the battery. Just wait for the ball. Just tap it. That's one of a handful of the nastiest pitchers in baseball point to is. Would you rather have three chances to do something or two chances to do something? David bell opted for three chances. Unfortunately, none of three delivered and the reds fall. Four three the final. Let's go to the phones we begin in Amelia, Mike, you were on seven hundred w w welcome. All right. Thanks for taking my call. Real quick real estate by one hundred green. That's. Guy. Right. There really is. I don't think. Our number one number two. I think if you if something about like. Tip. It. Getting better position. Got up. Very rare. But you have a passed ball. I'm also see on the regular TV broader wide out. I don't know what would be with us four score. But I just think you know, you gotta you gotta hitter. What is it that a battle? I think I I would have bought it. I know that in the league. But I think that would have been a part of the manager job. Not to put a best player in the best position to succeed. Do you think asking Scott shetler to bunt is putting him in the best position to succeed? Yeah. I think you've got a better out. Oh, really? Do you really believe that asking him to square around and bud against the ninety eight mile an hour? Fastball is easier for him to do then. Swing like he normally does overnight. Yeah. But he's not over nine for his career. I mean, he's oh for nine in the first two games. Plus, I mean, he's last year is on base percentage was three thirty three. That's exactly the average of a major league baseball leadoff hitter. So he was an average leadoff hitter year ago. Okay. That's fair. That's fair. I just think he's I think he swings more than he Bunce. And I think it's incredibly difficult to bunt versus Josh ater. I agree. I agree. I I don't know. I just I guess I'm old school when it comes to all. Mike. And I appreciate you. Listen, I think it's really cool that you call dude against some time. Thank right, right. Thank you. Yeah. I look. I know it and I'm not one who reconstructs the inning that. Well, had they butting of over then vodkas five escorting. We we don't know that you're assuming that EMMY why who who's to say hater would have pitched vodka the same way with a runner on third. Do you think he's not going to change his strategy, though is approached joy? So I I don't I don't let people reconstruct innings and say it would've worked for that reason. I just think you're underestimating how incredibly difficult it is to bunt how incredibly difficult it is to but against him. And if this was a runner on first base, I might be examining this from a different angle. I doubt it, but he was already the rudder was already in scoring position. So David bell decided to take three cracks at a hit the tie the game instead of two cracks tied the game. It just seems like simple math to me. It's it's like the modern math of major league baseball. You don't give up out cell phone, and we go we'll you're on seven hundred wwl w the Kelsey Chevrolet extra rating show. Wondering why they would not consider walking.

"Punch too many saying that was the best shot in a while. Then with the loss is it kind of lowered the through graduation and early departure it kinda lessened the expectations. And then if you consider this off season this basketball season, what we have been moved by from David bell to the trades from the Marvin Lewis firing from the FC Cincinnati news. It has it's moved ahead of unfortunately. And it's kinda knocked you see successes back in the pack. Now again, fortunately, there's an hour a week devoted UC specifically for bearcat fans with Mick Cronin show. I get that. But I thought at least it worthy of a segment tonight. And I was glad we were able to catch up with the women's coach for a couple of minutes. But I was glad we could save and kind of carve out at least a segment tonight to kind of put it in perspective. Just what they're doing at sixteen and three. Tied for first in the American athletic conference when we come back into the NFL and much hand wringing much angst much debate. Some wonder what the big deal is. I'm looking for a high level quality conversation surrounding NFL overtime. The idea of how it is right now. And how it might be could be tweet. That after we check news. This is the home of the reds on seven hundred wwl w. News, traffic and weather. News Radio seven hundred w ELL Cincinnati. Pain and fear for workers. But no progress in Washington with the eight o'clock report, I'm Jack crumley breaking now doesn't want to see the government shutdown which is why he has actually put forward a proposal. The big question is for the Democrats. How long are they going to continue to do nothing to actually fix the problem?.

"Slash TV that old man fingers. David bell is putting that up right now. If James call them old not me. Bird box challenge. That's the other thing. Going viral right now. Now, it's on Netflix. It's a Sandra Bullock film. And apparently, here's what it is. It's people are called to do everyday tasks little things here and there blindfolded, right? So you put a blindfold on as if you're blind, and you try to complete these tasks whatever they are. And the challenge takes place. It was inspired by this this show or movie bird box. Now, apparently the plot of Burbach s- is post apocalyptic world kind of like the Walking Dead. I'm picturing in my head where people need to wear blindfolds to block the outside world and prevent themselves from being get this possessed by demons that prey on their worst fears and lead them to commit suicide. So you have to be blind or else. You will kill yourself is what I was what on here. Is that an interesting premise? It's different. I think I'm into it. Everyone's checking it out and people have told me, I should check it out. So I'm going to watch bird box. But I will not do the bird box challenge. Netflix put this out there on social media can't believe I have to say this. But please do not hurt your cells with this bird box challenge. We don't know how this started. And we appreciate the love. But boy and girl had just one wish for twenty nineteen. And it is that you not end up in the hospital due to memes..
