"And also formed in 85, the Indigo Girls, who actually have a song called Winthrop Mass, which is about my hometown. Winthrop Mass. One of them used to vacation there. They actually, yeah, it's called Winthrop Mass. Is that the vacation capital of Massachusetts or something? No. Cape Cod would be that. I would think. Cape Cod, AKA the Irish Riviera. Yeah. Bands that disbanded in 1985, the Boca Raton Symphony Orchestra. What did I miss? Jesus. If you were living in Boca, they wouldn't have broken. The Boca Raton Symphony Orchestra broke up in 85. And the classic role was never the same. It was never the same again. Because it was too damn hot to play in tuxedos. At the same time, the goddamn Fort Lauderdale Symphony Orchestra broke up too. What was going on in South Florida? The symphony orchestras were breaking up. Sorry, if I'm coming to Florida, I'm too damn hot to watch classical. I want to be in the cold. It's got AC. It's not like they're playing outdoors in the park. I like my snow. Yeah, no you don't. I don't. You just dodged a hurricane today. You're happy. The thing didn't even come close to us. I'm telling you. Yeah, I saw that whole trajectory, yeah. They come, I'm telling you, they don't come straight across anymore. I've been saying this for a decade. They come toward us, then they hook up to the Carolinas. Just ask Lou. Yes, they do. Or they come up and under and into the Gulf. They don't come straight across anymore. Yeah, it's an anomaly if they do come in. Yeah, it doesn't happen like that anymore. Poor Tom. Poor Tom. He can't get away from it. As Paris found out when he came here during hurricane season, we got hit. A lot of rain. And interestingly enough, being in the mountains, but his train, he took the train back in New Jersey and it was the tracks washed out in like Virginia. Nice. He calls it typhoon season here. And that's when he had my guitar, right? And he was like, I don't know. I said, how's the guitar? Is that okay? And he, God bless Paris, he kept that guitar. I saw the Amtrak ticket on it. Nice. Another band that broke up in 1985, believe this or not, Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show. They lasted that long? They lasted till 85. They were a hit machine. Mark, do you know where they were from? England, right? New Jersey. Really? Yeah, they're from like West Orange or South Orange or somewhere. I thought they were a Southern band. Yeah. Wow, I was thinking England. I don't know. Yeah, probably what they made is 85. The Emotions. The Emotions broke up in 85, so R &B. The Emotions in Motion. Hanoi Rocks. Well, I don't think they were long for the, what's their lead singer got killed? Thanks, Vince Neil. The drummer Razzle. The drummer, yeah, yeah. Yeah, thanks, Vince Neil. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, what a dick. Fuck. The Honey Drippers broke up. I hate Molly Crew. Sorry, go ahead. The Honey Drippers broke up in 1985. That was like a one-off. After a year? No, they were around like 83. I think they were around for a little bit, right? As a matter of fact, let me see. I'll give you the exact. Let me see. Jimmy Page played with them, didn't he? Well, it was Robert Plant's thing, and on that EP, he had Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page playing on it. 81. 81. That was 81? They started, yeah. Holy shit. It was a side thing. Yeah. The album probably came out in 82, maybe. 81, 82. 83, maybe. And then he was going to do more albums, but yeah, his solo career. To Perry's disappointment, Perry's, the AI, to his disappointment, this band broke up in 1985, Kajagoogoo. Jamal got bad advice to go on his own and capitalize on his haircuts. AITers. AITers are falling right now. And Perry had all their album. Perry had all. The greatest hit. The greatest hit. He's a big one. He's not too shy-shy. Shush, shush. Yeah. Too shy-shy. Perry's an AI. Too shy-shy. Perry's an AI. Perry's going to get into your system, too. Don't piss off Perry. He's going to get into your computer there. Give you viruses. Remember that Jurassic Park with the guy that played Numa? When they tried to get in the computer. You're going to get that one day. Yeah. Also, a band that broke up in 1985. The creators of one of the greatest club songs of the 80s. Going to take you to Funkytown. Lips Incorporated. Going to take you to Funkytown. Yeah, lip sync. Lip sync. With two P's, right? With the vocals from Battlestar Galactica. If you're going to have a one-hit, why not be Funkytown, right? Short-lived band, Supergroup. The Power Station broke up in 85. I love them. That was a great album. That was a good album. Marie Martin says she has that album. Lips Inc. Lips Inc. Well, she said, we miss Lamal. Was it Lamal or Jamal? That's Perry. That's Perry. Perry says we miss Lamal. He's got a poster of Lamal up in his AI chat room. Lip sync. All right. Is that a play on the words lip sync? Good point. Now you've got the spelling right, Marie. See, I know stuff. I know stuff, too, you know. You two aren't always the smartest in the room. I'm the dumbest in the room. I've always said that. I heard a great saying the other day. It says, if you're the smartest person in the room, you're in the wrong room. Oh, that's pretty cool. Good point. I like that. I did, too. I thought that was pretty good. Yeah, man. Someone asked me why. I said, because you ain't learning nothing. You ain't learning shit, yeah. And I said it just like that. Ain't learning nothing. Double negative. And to add on to that, if you're the dumbest person in the room, don't take it bad. Take it good. Learn, right? I don't mind being the dumbest. Just don't open your mouth because they're going to say dummy. Yeah, exactly. I've learned that well. King of the 45 shows up an hour and a half into the show. We've been doing the show every Wednesday night at 7.45 for the last year or whatever, and all of a sudden he's like, I missed it again. Wait, isn't that a Phil Collins song? I missed again. Yeah, missed again. Oh, whoa. Well, that's the beauty of the live stream, Dave Phillips, King of the 45s, the rewatch. You can watch it again. Watch it over the weekend. Everything we say is around forever, including that fateful anti-Italian comment I made before. Don't stop kissing his ass in the apartment. Who scares me? He's holding up a box cutter. Lou scares me. He's got a box cutter there. And I'm Irish. I'm going to show my chapstick, Lou. All right. The power station. Yep. They broke up with Robert Palmer. Robert Palmer. That was a great group. The late Robert Palmer. Yeah. He said he thought they were going to, they wanted to continue on. And he goes, he says something like, you know, he was older than him. He goes, I've been doing this longer. I don't need these kids to tell me what to do or something like that. Yeah. Yeah. Then they got Michael DeBar to sing. They were at Live Aid. With Michael DeBar. Yeah, they were. They were. He wasn't that good with them. I think he's an idiot. I think he's an idiot. I listened to his accent show. I don't think Sam Cooke was killed in a massive conspiracy. I think Sam Cooke was killed by, you know, he was wearing no pants and a jacket and the hotel manager shot him dead because he assaulted her. There's no conspiracy there. I could see, you know. Well, you know what? Too much cocaine will kill you. In the words of the late, great Rick James, cocaine's a hell of a drug. And Michael has. Cocaine's a hell of a drug. Perry says bad version of Bang and Gone. I disagree. I disagree too. I love that version. I don't mind it. Yeah. I love the drum at the beginning. The great Tony. Who is the drummer, Lou? The late Tony Thompson. Great drummer. Dude, love that intro. And then it just kicks right into it. But it has that annoying gated sound. That was the sound of the 80s. I have it in my digital kit. I liked it. I have a kit called Power. It's a direct sample of that kit. It's so funny to play with. Yeah. But I thought what they did was pretty clever. It's something like a hard rock. Oh, Andy Taylor on guitar. John Taylor on bass. What a great band. Yeah. Another band that broke up in 1985. Quarter Flash. That early. Wow. They were on for four years. That was it. The music was never the same. No. They had one hit harden my heart. And that was like 80, 84. Yeah. It was like 84. I saw them 83. Was it 83 maybe? I saw them back up Bob Seger at the Boston Garden. Oh, wow. Yeah. And they, you know, nobody knew any of their other songs. And then, of course, that's the encore song. Harden my heart. Yeah. With what key aspect of the song? The saxophone. That was the whole hook. You know what they were? They were the typical old band. Play a bunch of songs you don't know and they do the one hit. She played the saxophone. They were music teachers. I think there were high school music teachers. Okay. They had like a weekend band. She was a cutie. She was a cutie. You know. She was no Pat Benatar. No, she was no Patty Smythe. She was no Patty Smythe. They were like four non-blondes in the 90s. We saw Aerosmith and friends of mine were like, who is the four non-blondes open? Who are they? Who? I don't know. I said, keep listening. Keep listening. And they did that one song. Oh, that's who they are. I can't stand that song. The lead singer of Court of Flash was Arinda Sue Ross. Rindy Ross. She was a cutie. Another band that broke up in 1985. They are the creators of the one hit wonder of the 80s. The politics of dancing. Was that ABC? No. The politics of ooh, feeling good. The politics of dooving. Uh huh. Who was that? Reflex. Oh, okay. Reflex. I saw them back up Joan Armatrading. Really? Wow. She put an album out in 1985? Loved her, man. Loved Joan Armatrading. Although, we've had this discussion. It'll just start to irritate me and I'm having a good show. Don't agitate me. You want me to eat? We're an hour and 40 minutes in. I can irritate you. I know you can. You both can if you really wanted to. I think at this point you both know my buttons. Where's my guitar? That's penalty box just for thinking about. Just for mentioning it. Just for fucking mentioning it. He goes into the penalty box. He's asking for it. I miss Jack. I love Jack. I miss Jack. Right? We all do. We all do. But I don't miss that fucking guitar thing. I don't miss that. I know you're an irritator. No. I don't miss that. What are you doing, Mark? I was looking for something to hold up to the camera, but I don't know. So you've got to have your props ready, because at this point, Mark, expect to go into the penalty box at least once a show now. That's my second time. You're the bad boy of the milk case. I'm like the one tough player on the Montreal Canadiens. There's only one tough guy on that team. It's in his contract, isn't it? He goes, le punch, le punch, le punch. Let's see. Who else? Romeo Void broke up in 1985. What year did they get back together again for that show? The 90s. That show came out in the 90s, yeah. Oh, okay. Right. Yeah. She was like a teacher. You know, they find them at their regular jobs. Deborah Liao. Deborah Liao. Big girl. Big girl. But she could command the stage, you know? She owned it. Charisma is charisma. Yeah. Yeah. Another band that broke up in 1985, Scandal. Wow. Patti Smythe. Patti Smythe. She was a good-looking girl. Oh, yeah. And the whole job back in high school. A friend of mine saw her in an airport. It must have been a long flight. She looks a lot different on television. It must have been a long flight. You do get drinks in first class. Another band that broke up in 1985, Social Distortion. That early. I always liked them. I thought the dude was way ahead of his time with the neck tattoos. He had some really serious ink back then, and that was not that common. Neck tattoos and shit like that were not like it is today. Did they get a bad rap? Some said they're not punk enough, but it's a rock band to me. They had a little bit of, dare I say, rockabilly in there? A little cowpunk type. That was that LA thing. That was a thing in LA. Like X. Yeah. John Doe. Yeah. Let me see. They had Ball and Chain was one of their songs. Ring of Fire. Ring of Fire. They did a great version of Ring of Fire. They did some Behind the 8 Ball. What was that hiss? Someone's got the Schmiddies. I get it every once in a while. Let me see. It doesn't say. Mike Ness was the lead singer guitar player. That doesn't matter. But they had some radio play. And finally, I lose that. Van Zandt broke up in 1985. There's a band called Van Zandt. You don't remember them, do you? Yeah, I do. I do. Wasn't it supposed to be in Linyard, Skynyard? Well, they had a big hit called, not hit, but it was- It's called Whiskey. Something like Railroad something. I don't know. Donnie and Johnny Van Zandt. Right? Now, one of them went on to do Lynyrd Skynyard. Yep. The other one went on to do 38 Special. Very special. You know? I wonder if there was a sister named Bonnie. It's so weird, you know? Fucking penalty box. Is that three times? He's good for three each show, I think. He's got like a minimum. Give me the middle finger from the green room. I can't see the green room. He might get extended time on this one. Like a soccer match. Like a soccer match, extended time. What are you going to hold up now? What's that say? You two, go home. Go home, Scott. Go home. Go home. Biggest hits. The top five biggest hits of 1985. Give me kids. Start throwing some songs out there. Money for nothing. Nope. It's not in the top five. Yeah. Saving all my love for you. I'm going to go with Everybody Wants to Rule the World? Nope. Close, but no cigar. Okay, I know what it is. I know what it is. What is it? Shout. Yep. That was the number one biggest hit of seven of 85. Nope. Oh, yeah. We Are the World is. That's the second. Are you Googling, Lou? Are you Googling? No. I don't Google. As Lou looks down and I see his laptop reflecting in his glasses, I'm not Googling. I got my research. We research. All right. I know what it is. That's two. So Shout. We Are the World. Dancing in the Streets from Mick and David. Nice Rocker by David Hasselhoff. That was number six. Just missed it. Wait. I'm going to take a stab. Ready? Chaka. Chaka. Chaka. Chaka. Chaka. Chaka. Chaka. Chaka. Chaka. Chaka. There's three left out of the top five. Number one was Shout. Number two is We Are the World. What? Careless Whisper. Nope. Is this at the 80s? No, Marie. Top pop songs. Top pop. Of the 80s. Of the 80s? Of 85. 85, yeah. Yeah. Fuck. We Don't Need Another Hero. Nope. You're going to be surprised at number three. We Built a City. No. Oh, no, no, no. And We Dance the Hooters. Nope. Great song, though. Hmm. Raspberry Beret. Nope. Great song. Fortress Around Your Heart. Nope. Great song. Glory Days. No. Radioactive By the Firm. No. Great song, though. California Girls. DLR? No. The Lot. Julian Lemon. No, great song. But there's three out of the top five that you... Don't Come Around Here No More. Think about it. Think about... Nope. Think about... Every Time You Go Away, Paul Young. Just think about who was really big, and I'm giving you a hint for one of them. Who's one of the biggest stars of the 80s? Genesis didn't put an album out there. Of the 80s? Whitney Houston. No, but... Only He's a Miracle, Mike and the Mechanics. Nope. I'm stumped. Biggest stars of the 80s. One of the biggest stars of the 80s. Glenn Fray. She was the queen of the 80s. Sweet Child of Mine. Nope. She was the queen of the 80s. Jenna Jackson. I just said it earlier. Madonna. Yep. Material Girl. That was in 85. It was 85, yep. So that was one of the songs. Material Girl. Foreigner. I Wanna Know What Love Is. I Wanna Know What Love Is. Wow. It was number four. Yeah, Michael McDonald did a cover of that. And they're not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Number three. Number three. The number three biggest song of 1985. Aha. Take On Me. Wow. Okay. Out of all those songs you guys just rattled off, Take On Me was a monster. And the video did not earn it. Well, that's a song that video helped. If it's ever a song, it was a unique video. I had mentioned it. Did you see them through the acoustic version of that? I gotta watch it. I haven't watched it yet. You gotta watch it. Yeah. You gotta watch it. It's really good. Gives the song new perspective. Yeah. So, Lou, tell me something about what do you got in, you know, it's about 1985 that will... Well, I just had some big albums and soundtracks. Some soundtrack albums and stuff were. Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. I don't think I saw any of these movies. I saw that. It was a good movie. Okay. So... Oh, wait. No, I'm thinking of something. I don't think... There were no big songs from it. It wasn't like, you know, the Cyndi Lauper song. But Glenn Frey and Jack Temption, they were a piece with easy feeling. They had a song called On the Loose. Wang Chung's third album, To Live and Die in L.A., was actually the name of the movie. Great song. Yeah. Yeah. So that movie, To Live and Die L.A., was the introduction to number one bungee chords, bungee jumping. Was it? It was. Yes. If you watch the video, you see the dude jump off a bridge with a bungee. That was like an introduction to bungee jumping. And that's crazy stuff to do, by the way. That's one of those movies where the star of the movie dies like a quarter of the way into the movie. Like the guy you think is going to be the star of the movie gets killed like a quarter of the way into the movie. I didn't see it. Was that Wayne Peterson? It was a good movie. It was actually a good movie. It was very good. And that's a great song. To Live and Die in L.A. Yeah, that was her third album. Not to be confused with Walking in L.A., which I fucking hate that song. Was that? Walking in L.A. Ain't nobody walks in L.A. Missing persons? Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Dale Bozio at our worst. I have a friend who's a huge fan of that band. They were good, but her brother in drums had put in the same makeup and shit as she did to me. That was her husband? That's Terry Bozio. Oh, okay. All right. Frank Zappa fame. From Massachusetts. Yes. There was a movie called Birdie, Matthew Modine. But Peter Gabriel did the soundtrack to it. It was some pretty cool stuff. Birdie was a great movie. A good movie. That was his first collaboration with Daniel Lanois. Yeah. All the U2 stuff. Yeah. The Breakfast Club soundtrack. Yes. Huge. My favorite movie. What was a big hit out of that? Don't you forget about me. Back to the Future soundtrack. Yeah. I've never seen Back to the Future. What? That's a great movie, Lou. Watch it. I was doing something. I've never saw the, what was it? The Big Easy? The big... No. The Woke Up Newtown stuff. The Big Chill. The Big Chill. Never saw that. I never saw it. I saw that. I saw it in passing because it was on a television. Some girl that was 30 and never had sex. And then some guy doing too much cocaine. They all smoke weed. They drink wine. Listen to good music though. It was excellent music and it probably introduced me to Motown just hearing that soundtrack. Yeah. Kevin Kline. Great actor. And they did the, at the beginning, they did the You Can't Always Get What You Want. Oh, with the funeral. Yeah. Who was the actor in the funeral? Who was the dead friend? Did they ever say? I don't think they showed them. Maybe Maria. I never saw the movie. I know that that was the beginning of it. I didn't care to see the movie. Those are the movies that I didn't want to see it for some attitude reason. I didn't. Well, yeah. I just. I don't want to see that. I felt that they were kind of forced. It's like the one with, the other one with Demi Moore, the Brat Pack movie where, you know, I forget the name of that movie, but they're, they're kind of forced. Like let's make a dramatic, you know, about last night. No, it was another one where Rob Lowe played the bad guy and they, they show him with his bar band. He's playing saxophone. I forget the name of that movie. They're all kind of like a little force. Like you have a bunch of actors in the room. St. Elmo's fire. Dang. Yeah, St. Elmo. Marie Martin's on fire. Yeah. So I was talking to Jack today and I said, so he goes, what are you guys going to talk about? And I said, well, this, this, and this. I said, we're going to throw in some soundtracks and maybe some movies. And he goes, ah, fucking great. We go from talking about fucking Deep Purple to Sophie's Choice. What the fuck? That's great. That's exactly what he said. Oh, great. So Deep Purple to Sophie's Choice. What the fuck? Jack, you're not a movie buff. He doesn't want to take to the show. Uh, what else? Uh, so Kevin Costner was Kevin Costner, Marie Martin said, Kevin Costner. Was that in reference to the dead friend? I guess he's the dead friend. Oh wow. I have to rewatch. And did he talk like this even though he was a corpse? I'm Robin Hood. I feel fun though. Don't get me my bow. Yeah. Fryer talk. Maybe I'll have you in my Dances with Wolves movie. They call me the mariner. Yeah. I've got kills. I like Waterworld. I like that movie. That movie got slammed. That was the biggest flop of that year. Yeah. Dennis Hopper though. There's a financial flop. Yeah. Yeah. They spent a lot of money on water. This soundtrack, I think Mark, you might, if you haven't seen the movie, you might want to hear it. It was the Falcon and the Snowman. Oh dude. Dude. Dude. Pat Metheny. Pat Metheny. He just said dude three times. So he knows something. And what was the big hit from that? This is Not America. David Bowie and Pat Metheny. Yeah. And it's an excellent soundtrack. What's up with David Bowie? This is Not America. Then he gets with Trent Risen and says, I'm afraid of Americans. What's up with fucking David Bowie and America? He was alive. I tell him to go fuck himself. Scott. Scott. I know you. I'm afraid of Americans. You got a villain on your fucking shirt there. Sometimes you got to wear it on your sleeve, buddy. Wear it on your shirt. You know the story of the movie? Welcome to Sherwood, my douchebag. It was a true story, right? It was a true story. Yes, it was a true story. Yeah. It made me realize that Sean Penn, that was the movie where I realized he's a fucking great actor. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Because he was. Yeah. Was. Oh, come on. What has he done? What have you done for me lately? I got some movies. Oh, what do you got, Mark? No, no, no. Let Lou finish. A View to a Kill. James Bond. Yes. With Grace Jones. With Grace Jones. Yeah. Crush Groove. Crush Groove. There you go. A lot of people in that movie. Crush Groove. Yeah. That it? One thing I noticed, I was reading about. Lou just went totally blank on us. No, I know I did. I'm just reading. What was that? A human rain delay over here. He goes, Crush Groove. Crush Groove. A lot of people in that. You know, what Lou doesn't understand. And then head silence. We worry he froze up when he does that. That's what we're worrying about. I'm secure. So anyway, Lou has upgraded from his hot studio to a hot studio. With his, whatever kind of computer he had pieced together. Like some mad scientist. Frankenstein. To his nice comfortable living room with AC and a laptop. We like the new Lou. Oh, thank you. And check this out. I'm going to do a little swivel here. I still have France. There you go. He's still got France. He's still in France. He had us fooled the whole time. Let's fool the whole time. So that's a Jersey couch in France. Oui. It's a Jersey couch in France. They couch. One of those albums I was reading, was it the Southern Accents? Tom Petty. That was an 85 album. Robby Robertson is one of the producers on that record. Really? I did not know that. That's a great album. I'm like, what did he? Why have all this people like Dave Stewart's producing, Jimmy Iovine. Mike Campbell from the Heartbreakers. How did Robby Robertson get in there? Because he wanted to tell a story. And he got Robby Robertson. What was the jazz musician that Sean Penn played? Do you remember? Adam Stumpf? Chet Baker. He played Chet Baker? No. Major heroine. You had us for a second. You went with it. We would have believed you. Because you said it so quick and so firmly. A little makeup he could plan. My friend, Mark Flynn, right? The king of Google who comes on every once in a while and interferes in the board and the message board. He was here for like, I don't know. I always say with him, it was a good two-day visit. Unfortunately, the visit was four days long. Right? He would do what Lou did. He'll say, yeah, yeah, I was Chet Baker. I think. Yeah, yeah. He has such a way of making you think that he really knew it and then he would just always follow up with a very delayed, I think. Is this the guy that cut the pie wrong? The cake wrong? The pie. Like a fucking barbarian. That was weird. He's weird. As for that, he's weird. I love him, but he's... He failed geometry, obviously. Listen, weird people make the world go round. I'm weird too. Who cuts a pie out of a pie that's already been cut in a whole different spot? It doesn't even connect it. I don't know if I told you. I showed that picture to my son who has to have everything square in line and he went, that pisses me off. He got like really mad. Pissed me off when I saw the pie. What would you do to my pie? And then he said, dad, you would do the same thing. That's what he said. A pumpkin pie like a fucking animal. He just cuts it anywhere. Does he do that to pizza? I don't know. Fortunately, pizza already comes cut. So, so fortunately. You can fuck that up too. You can fuck that up. Oh, a friend of mine who stayed here this weekend also, because I had my fantasy football draft, sent me two Chicago style pizzas today. What kind of pizza? A Chicago style pizza. That's a casserole. I love that pizza. I do. I like it too. It wasn't too thick. I love it. The thick ones, I like the thinner ones, but... I got a brother-in-law from Chicago and he introduced me to Chicago. It's all the fucking same. Whether you put the cheese in the bottom and the sauce on top, the sauce on the bottom, it's all going in your mouth. It's tasting the fucking same. Why do people complain over this? Thin crust, thick crust. Once it gets in your mouth, there's no difference. A little bit of texture, but when you drink that Coke, it all melts in your mouth. What is this? This is all bullshit. These people fighting over slices of pizza. Fighting over slices of pizza. What's better? It all goes in your mouth. It's the same ingredients. Yeah. It's all the water. It's not the ingredients. No, no, no. It's not the water. It's not the water. It is the water. Because the sauce and the cheese overpower everything. And when you put pepperoni on, you're not tasting the dough. I think we need to let Lou talk about this, if anybody can talk about this. It's all what you like. I mean, I prefer the cheese on the top. I think it just adds a certain... It's a texture thing. See, he's doing the hand thing. He's really into this. You're a texturalist. All right, let's get off this. Come on, keep going. Keep going. That's all I got for soundtracks. All right, Mark. All right. I'm going to go with... I'm just going to mention, rattle off some movies and albums that really I liked. Style Council put out our favorite shop this year. And they had their... Some of their few hits. Shout to the Top. And When the Walls Come Tumbling Down is on that. All right. Big album. Head on the Door by Cure came out. That was the album that introduced me to the Cure. And I love it. Power Windows Rush. And that to me was, fuck, this is 80s Rush and I fucking love it. While everyone else was going, I don't like it. There's too many keyboards. Shut up. It's a great record. Yeah. If you're a fan, it's a great record. A truly bad album came out this year. Flash from Jeff Beck. I remember me and my good friend Bill Sharp buying it because we thought we were going to hear classic Jeff Beck stuff. And we heard... We hit the two hour mark. That's the new song. That's the two hour alarm. What was that? Metal rendering. No, take your time. That just lets us know we hit the two hour mark. Heart put out their album Heart. It revitalized the band. Done with Mirrors. What about Love on It? Yeah, yeah. Now Aerosmith put out Done with Mirrors. And I thought that was far superior than Permanent Vacation. I love that album. That came out in 85. That was a big getting back together with Joe Perry and it didn't go anywhere, you know, unfortunately. Marie Martin. That was Godzilla. Godzilla was not in Jurassic Park. Don't ever insult Godzilla again like that. If you look over here at the top of my pinball machine, right there, that's Godzilla right there. Tribute to Godzilla. I'm sorry, Mark. Continue. That's OK. The Firm came out. You know, big comeback for Jimmy Page and Paul Rogers. Yeah. I really like that album. OK, movies. Pale Rider. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Who had an early Michael Penn in a role in that. And that's a great movie. Michael Penn? I forgot. He was the son. He was the guy's son. Sean's brother. Yeah. The one from Reservoir Dogs. Oh, that's right. That's right. Yeah. Yeah. Passed away. Yeah. Vision Quest. I love you, Preacher. Whatever happened to her? I didn't see her after. She grew up cute. Yeah. I love you, Preacher. Do you think you did or not? You know, Pale Rider was the sequel to High Plains Drifter. Right. The man. He was like another version of the man with no name. Well, High Plains Drifter wasn't related. The man with no name was the good, the bad, and the ugly. That's right. It was like… But High Plains Drifter was a totally different person. Right. But it was like a guy that just wanders and, you know, he… A drifter. That's what he does. No, I'm not accepting that. No. Oh, all right. I'm messing with… No. Look, I love my western. The guy from High Plains Drifter… See, now you're getting into westerns. You're getting into my genre, buddy. The character from High Plains Drifter… I don't see a cowboy hat on your fucking head. And you never will either. Even though I work with horses, I ain't wearing a cowboy hat. Oh, you got me on that one. You got me. Okay. I'm sorry. You got me. High Plains… He came out… It's like a guy… A demon from hell came out. You know? In the same way, he just kind of poof. And there he is. You know? And did you… When you saw those movies, like High Plains Drifter, this is a perfect example of this. He goes into this town. It's the most depressing-looking town. Like, could you live like that? That's how they live, though. That's… Yeah. That's what I mean. It's like, you know, no wonder they drank. You know? I had the original movie poster for that. The original movie poster for High Plains Drifter. Nice. But, yeah, the West was very depressing. Yeah. They were just trying to eke out some… trying to make their fortune, doing what they could do, you know? Yeah. Tin Pan. My Huckleberry. What's the name of the show that was on HBO? Oh, yeah. With… Driftwood. Great. That was great. Deadwood. Deadwood. Deadwood. That's a true story, by the way. And who's the guy that got killed in the first season? He was… Well, Bill Hancock. Yeah. Yeah. And that was… And he really did get killed in Deadwood. Yeah, he did. Yeah. Shot in the back of the head by a coward. That's who's gonna play those eights and aces. The dead man's hand. Yeah. That's right. That's what he had. Yeah. All right, Mark Blount, sorry for interrupting. All right. So… That guy, they eventually executed that guy. Yeah. Well, damn good. Yeah. All right. So, Vision Quest, which I thought was a great… I liked it. It wasn't a big Matthew Martin. It was a great soundtrack. Dio was in it. Wasn't Madonna… Didn't Madonna do a song for the Vision? Yeah. And Sow Council. Yeah. They were… Walls come tumbling down. Of course, Lou mentioned View to a Kill. That's probably one of my favorite James Bond, because it's funny as shit. It was good. Yeah. Christopher Walken was great in it. Right on schedule. That's not Timothy Dalton? Is that Roger Moore? No, that was Roger Moore's last movie. His last one. Yeah. So, there's a scene at the end where he's on the top of the Golden Gate Bridge, and it's obviously a green screen in the back or whatever, and you see like all the wrinkles like, yeah, this guy's too old to be doing this. The Bride with Sting. I like that movie. Do you? Yeah, I do. Terrible.

Tyson's we have all of each generation has their idols each sport. Or whatever mine when i was growing up crabby pug it was my guy dave stewart was my guy. Kent herbeck was my guy rod karoo. Would my guy lyman. Bostock was my guide Murdered so there was a growing up baseball. I had a good number of players that i looked up to when i played literally. Willie stargell another guy. That i looked up to. So who's going to be for the ten eleven twelve fifteen year olds of twenty twenty one. Who's to be their guide related to be in their forties in the fifty to say you're bangladesh son or grandson fernando tat tease junior. Wants soto otani ronald kunda. Junior prayers out to him towards acl. He's not gonna be back for a while. But these guys anderson. These guys learned over my is back to the day. These are the players that major league. Baseball is shaping to be that for the next generation. So if we're speaking about the all star game. And i'd mentioned before you know. It has a little freshness because when you get an all star game would you start having repeat players or the squads are a lot of the same players. I mean the for those guys. They could sit there and say yeah. It was great. And it's wonderful and it's an awesome experience and all those things and i'm quite sure it is a short is but after a while what the game starts the festivities. The festivities are wonderful. And you get to meet the mother all stars and you get to sign the autographs and take pictures and you know the homerun derby and everything. Those things are great but by about the fifth inning of the game of the all star game. A lot of those guys like all right time for me to you know. Start thinking about the second. Half of the season in the thrill is gone on. This is gone especially when you're speaking about guys that i mentioned before who have been multiple multiple time all stars and starting in everything i remember back in the day you would have derek jeter. You would have a barry bonds you would have these guys who were starting the all star game every year by the third and fourth inning. These guys were already l. the ballpark either. They're already on the ballpark going back home or are they already showered changed in. That's about it for them. The all star game was over so as much as the can say he had this greatness as awesome. You know you lose a someone a luster as you mature to get older and you start going to the things more consistent basis or at least some of these guys who are still young. Sometimes i all star first experience and everything bring type of freshness but bring type of newness of a brindled type of excitement that have been lacking in all star games before when they were mainly veteran dominated but according to journal ran of the sports business.

"In the past. Players are always trying to get an advantage. And so pitchers would put something on the baseball, but they didn't always know whether it was working. It was a lot of sort of trial error, whereas in this case you can put something on the baseball. You can go stand in front of a track, man. You throw it and you can see right away. Did that help my spin rate did it not? What can I change? You know, wasn't too sticky. You can just You can do it much more scientifically than they put in the past. And so that is part of why it's proliferated. That guys have access to the technology, and they can spend the offseason kind of fooling around with it. That is Sports Illustrated reporter Stephanie Esposito. She talked to W. Jeans, John Williams about this about the sticky stuff and Kevin Powell is here. You know it started when country Joe West throughout as ST Louis Cardinal picture In the game against the White Sox and the manager sort of said, This is an open secret in baseball, and it's not even an open secret. Now everybody's talking about it. Even Ron Kittle, who joins us on the phone line now, Ron welcome How you guys doing? I gotta ask you Are you still on Facebook? Because I used to see you all the time. And I haven't seen you lately. Yeah, I'm on Facebook every day. That's what I was afraid of. I think it's the 1st 25 people that make comments are the ones that are in your little loop. Now they're in charge of the world. What the hell? I don't know. No, wait now, if you if you defended me, it's OK. Just tell me, Ron. Wouldn't even know how to friend anybody, let alone different paper. Well, you know, I just We wanted to hear your take on this, because, um Well, there's so many questions I have about it, but what's your opinion of what's going on right now? You know, it came out a few weeks back with Trevor Bauer. You know, pitching for the Dodgers that he was putting something on the ball. He's probably having his worst season in the last five. Uh, so somebody's beat the daylights out of him, whether he's tricking people or not, but, uh, you know, you got the Graham in New York. Somebody said he's doing something 101 Miles an hour from all every angle. He can just now He's this nasty pitching. But in the past, you know George Vukovich where the Brewers was pitching one day when I was bad, and he threw a pitch. Honestly, goodness, uh, spit hit my glasses and, uh And the umpire says, Give me the ball, George and you're yelling back and forth and he goes. No, they're finally the umpire walked out to him. I'll never forget this because I was still in the batter's box, and George was 10 ft away and rifled the ball at the umpires chest in the world into the grass, so the feet when it's hot, you're sweating. You know, you've got long sleeves on most of them. Do sweat drips on the ball water will make anything move in any direction. Do they have to cheat? They don't have to cheat because everybody's got that launch angle of that swing. So if you keep it lower the strike zone. You're not going to hit anything that moves well, when you watch a game, the other people who know the game much better than I do. They say you can watch a game. And see a pitcher's doing it see when they're going to the bill of their cap or the inside of their belt. And they said, I mean, the article said, the pictures pretty much don't even try to hide it anymore. You know, there was an old days where people uh Dave Stewart had like pine time back in his pants on the side. It was Spanish, and you can see it. You're sweating, and I don't know if it's uh They're cheating every pitch. I don't even care I got in the batter's box. Uh, I thought it was a battle of challenge. You win. You win. I went, I went, Uh, I didn't think much of it to tell you the truth, but that's and everybody's got an excuse now. Well, that leads me to what is central as far as I'm concerned, because this article talked about how you know they'd even see players in the dugout. Holding the palm of their hand downward and the ball would stick underneath. These were bench players who were doing this and what I end. The you know this all comes up because the hitting the batting average is so low this season. There's not a lot of offense, and the idea is that these pictures are doing this. So if you're a hitter And you know this is widespread on your team and other teams. You're the person being hurt by this, whether it comes to your next contract or your free agency or whatever. If it's an issue. Why aren't the why aren't the guys with the bats in their hands? Raising more of a stink. Uh, you know, maybe they'll just think there's thinking at the home plate at the time. You know people are hitting good. I don't know if it's certain the swing or not. I mean, I see everybody trying to hit a home run in the game of baseball and the ballparks are designed for home runs. Let the ball fly out of the ballpark. Not like the old style ballparks from here a long way and no aerodynamics, but It's just a game. I mean, if you think you've got to look for excuses, I don't hear anybody. The shipping 300 complaining about different things, You know, I don't know. I'm not being everybody's bad. Never done there, but, uh, the home runs are flying out of the ballpark. Uh, like crazy and people are striking out like crazy. So you think too much is being made of it. Absolutely put people in the stands, Let him watch a ballgame, Buy a hot dog and and enjoy the game. You mentioned really good pictures out there. You mentioned Dave Stewart and George Vukovich. So how widespread was this sort of stuff when you were playing? Uh, I didn't see much of it to tell you the truth, But I know the good pictures don't need to trick anybody. Honestly, It's the ones that are scuffling. Little bit trying to do something. I've seen third basements. Get up. You don't want to get somebody out. Fill the ball around the horn. Uh, Take their cleats and make and put a nick on the ball. I mean, I saw Tommy John do it..

He said, do you want? I got something you want You want. Dave Stewart is what he says. There are London breed Libby Shaft like thing going on there like today, spar with each other. Do they exchange But you would like to see that, wouldn't you? Yeah, I know. Hey, let's move on anyway. It was a great thing and anybody who supported it was awesome. Dave Stewart told a great story that when they went down to Arizona during the The 10 Day layover between the earthquake in the resumption. That goes against, you know we needed to get our edge back. He goes, He said it Dennis Eckersley and Jose Conseco. We're not the best of teammates. He goes. So we had an interest crowd scrimmage, he goes, and there's nothing like ek drilling Conseco on purpose to get the juices flowing. Wow. How about drilling considered and looking like like, out of anger? Wow, about that. Waterboy likes that. He's all happy. Yeah, man. It was good. It was great to relive everything. Agnos, telling the story about pulling Joe DiMaggio out of the line of Marina Middle school. When all the marina residents were lined up to get their permission slip to go back to their destroyed homes because there was a guy 200 people down in line gris distinguished, gray haired man, he said. He walked a visit Mr DiMaggio. You don't have to wait in line. He said, No. I'm gonna wait in line like the rest of this neighborhood residents. Wow, he said, are you 65 year over Mr DiMaggio? And he said, I think you know that I am here like 82, he said. Well, guess what 65 over gets to go to the head of the line. DiMaggio was like, Well, in that case, I'll accept you talk about a gentleman because I got to escort the great Joe DiMaggio. Do they have the line Marina, But Joe was just waiting in line. Fred Larson. The Chronicle is a picture of that was a line of people in the marina with the marina burning and collapse and Joe DiMaggio's just waiting in line to get his permission. Go back to see his property about the life that dude lived Kidding me. By the way, didn't you tell me that when the 89 quake it also without a candlestick? Couldn't Sami Spear drive him home or something? He did, Sam, come in. Tell us the story about Joe DiMaggio one about how are they? Sam Spear. Sam's. That's just I don't even want to know. Right. You want Julio Jones? We're back to the cool Shawn Cooley. Thanks to Will and Stew and Art Agnos. They were great A J. Brown, Tennessee Titan. In a public recruiting message to Julio Jones. So what was this couldn't get up. What was he talking to him on Facetime or something? Or what was it? It was a Twitter direct message like an audio thing. Take a listen. Yo, yo, Julio a man check things out, man. I used to the mentions the ball right here, bro. Come on, bro. Come by with me, bro. Hey, you know, I'm good for you know, all the talk will be having you know, I'm saying, Well, you know, I'm good for it. But, you know, I got your back. Trust me. If you want to carry the load you can carry But if you get tired, you know different. You know, I carry your bro and nothing. You know, I'm not giving my number up. I said I would try to get them away. They said I can't. So people have the wrong number. You already know all of this, but Hey, just comments with your boy, man. Real talk, man. We're waiting on you. "Michael Michael Malone. My My Apologies, coach. Get that right here in the playoff. Okay. So last night, Charles Barkley revealed that Malone reached out the Hubbard to apologize. So we hit it from this angle. You do not have an issue with Malone correcting Hubbarth on live TV for calling him by an UN preferred name Inbounds. Not at all. I mean, is not like he was. He was mean. Just look at my name, Michael. Yeah, I wanna go with Michael. It's not like you chastise their like I'm not talking to you because you don't know what to call me that that would have been egregious. And the fact he did reach out right and apologize. Charleston, Um, A t end of the day. He wants to be called Michael. Yeah. And if you follow his team, you should know he wants to be called Michael. Maybe because it's the playoffs. She was unfamiliar with this. The Cassidy was Hubbard was unfamiliar with this, but I think he don't think he was in the wrong But I do think he went above and beyond by apologizing to her, so I am bound. I do not have a problem with. I have a very similar read. Um you know, I don't know exactly what her assignments have been throughout the year. I like her. I think she's pretty good. Yeah, I think she has a good sense for the game. No, she messed up. I mean, if you're around the nuggets, and you're around the MBA, nobody calls him Mike. And you know, if you're a reporter, you need to know that now she was very quick to apologize and corrected, and he was just because I'm sure in the moment, you know its first once he's in the heat of the moment, number one, So he's thinking about everything but that the fact that he circled back and did the classy thing in case it was misinterpreted. I'm sorry. I'm sure she was receptive to the call. So no harm, no foul. His name is Michael and he deserves to be called Michael. Are you in? Or are you out in a rough week for Tony LaRussa Been a rough couple of weeks for Tony. But the whole the fame skipper had a good day. Yesterday. He faces former Cardinals team first time ever Now, Larus is 16 years with the cards. Won over 1400 Games two World Series titles, and he spoke about what it meant to face his former franchise before the chai socks ripped off of 51 win. Well, it's definitely a different Syriza's On its you know, now, guys that games against Jimmy Lee and he was a great friend like a brother and It's uncomfortable, distracting. So what you gotta do is you just got To tune it out. You glad with three games are over. But you got I know they're gonna take their best shot and we've got to take ours but No, I know it's a different stories. All right, since we know before joining the cards, LaRussa 1 800 games in 10 years he was with the AIDS. Big Mac. Jose Conseco, the bash brothers. Ricky was there. Obviously Dennis accurately, I mean, they they were stacked. Including three straight American League pennants at a championship as well, They should have never lost to the Reds. Erick Dave 1990. I guess that would have been with sweet Lou. They played poorly. They were the better team reds. I think kind of overachieve. They should have at least More than one worlds. Here is what I'm saying in Oakland, But Tony LaRussa will be remembered more for his time with the red birds and his time with the A's in a row in bounds of this BT, because I almost forget That he was with Oakland. I really do only because of all the guys. You mentioned Conseco and Maguire and Ricky. You think more about the players in Oakland and their nose years than you do about this, Skip. Also it was a time when managers weren't unless they were arguing a call like you really didn't hear from them. They weren't out changing staffs and, you know, bull pinning and doing all the things that we see. Now we're managers air. Front and center so much. I think it's more recent with ST Louis and I think it was extremely impactful for a team in the Midwest to have the kind of impact that they had when he was the skipper. So I'm going to say Yeah, he will be remembered more for his time in ST Louis and bounds. I see it the exact opposite way. There's no doubt he won more games in totality. The resume certainly skews in favor of the cardinals. But You know that a steam was iconic. I mean, sometimes for the wrong reasons. Obviously, steroids infiltrating the game for sure, But I mean, you could just see I can't see the entire Cardinals team. I could see almost that entire A's team. I mean, Steinback behind behind the dead Eckersley, Dave Stewart smoke, You know, Ricky that meaning just sick. I A goes on that team wire Conseco. I don't know, Man. I look at that age team as as one of the special teams of my lifetime of my lifetime. I don't look at the Cardinals, though they want to championships as one of these special units of my lifetime like I I, you know, And I won't really count the seventies even always born of this, Like really, When I started watching me from 80 on, I think of like the 84 Tigers. I think of the age championship team, I think certainly the 96 Yankees, the Red Sox team and all four You know as few others for sure, but I don't look at the Cardinals and no disrespect. Have a great franchise. Great fans. Great old time players. Damn usual that a steam though Woz Was incredible, iconic.

"Into the season with Utah in Phoenix up there, so I think you look at the Lakers. They're a team that just has to avoid getting knocked out early because they've had so much of their lineup interrupted issue with idea, LeBron, They're just starting to find their feet together. If they can avoid getting knocked out in this play your format, they're gonna get better, each and every game. And now if you're sitting there at the top of the West Man, what bad luck to get a healthy Lakers team in the first round and the Warriors team Red hot with Steph Curry, a two time EVP playing the best offensive basketball of his entire career, So it's gonna be very interesting. I think both of those teams can give Utah on Phoenix all they can handle. Choose two story You don't want either one. And whoever loses the game to not tomorrow night hosts the 9 10 team, So I mean, he's right. He's right. I think both the Warriors like advance and I think he's right. "This is the Kelsey Chevrolet Extra inning show on news radio 700 wlw After a rain out, the Reds rained out in Cleveland today. Got seven games left on the road Trip three and Pittsburgh beginning tomorrow night, followed by four in Colorado Coming up a little bit later in the final hour of my three hour shift today, what happens if you bet on the second place finisher in the Kentucky Derby to win? Of course. And the winner is overturned for a positive drug test. We'll discuss that a little bit later in the hour, but right now time for a new addition. 10 teammates in a hat. I have done this segment with the likes of Johnny Bench, Pete Rose, Joey Votto and Dusty Baker, among others. But I have never asked anybody to do more than one episode until this week's guest. Time for our second edition of 10 players and a hat with Hall of Famer Marty Brennaman, the voice the Reds for 46 years, I wrote down the name of one player from each of those 46 teams on little slips of paper. You pick out 10. And share a memory. The first time we did this, you randomly selected legends like Johnny Bench in Tom Seaver. Plus as like, Willie. Well, pain Yah and Homer Bailey, Are you ready for the second edition? I am really excited. Dan. Player number one is Johnny Cueto. Hi, years before he ever got to the big leagues. Tom Browning told me, he said, This is a kid that's going to make an impact with this ball club. I've never heard of him. I've grown to respect the fact that Tom bribing those pitching talent when he sees it. And he came to the big leagues and he had this grew emotion. This corkscrew delivery, which he is now even modified even more with the Giants. I thought the guy was a consummate professional. Hey, went to the post every five days. The only thing that bothered me then that bothers me today is that I think his motion has an awful lot to do with the physical problems that he has. But, you know, I thought it was a huge loss when this club lost him, and I'm happy for the success he's having now with the Giants. And he got his ring. Sure did. All right player number two in 10 players and a hat with Marty Brennaman. Right? Let's see this. This would be yes. Yes, Deon Sanders. Ask this man I've ever seen in the baseball field. I thought Bo Jackson Woz and I saw Bo quite a bit in spring training and enough to draw a comparison. I don't know that I've ever seen things like Deon Sanders and the thing I respected about him is he wants made the comment that I can get off of a baseball bus put on a football uniform, and B is good. Corner cover as there's ever been in the NFL. I can't get off of football bus and put on a baseball uniforms and be that kind of talent. He respected the game. Hey, respected it for how difficult it was to play well, hey, had his moments getting hit the head with a fly ball in the outfield, but I He was his exciting of player once he got on bases I've ever seen, And the most amazing thing was He was a wonderful teammate to the guys that he played with and that I think that was born out of the fact that he had such great respect for the game. All right, two down eight to go. Here's Player number three with Marty Brennaman three. Harry Davis. Could have been one of the greatest players in the history of the game. I think had he been able to stay healthy the two years he had back to back I think it was 87 88 or 86, 87. Whatever it was Was just good. A pair of seasons that ran back to back as I think anybody I've ever seen said for Joe Morgan, when he won the EVP awards back to back in the seventies and hell of a good guy. He was a good guy to be around. Um, hey, and I had a difference one time when he got thrown out at second base, leading off the night thing with the Reds down a run, and I was very critical of him trying to stretch it into a double. You can't imagine And he came up to me in the club house the next day and and very quietly. He said. We need to talk about this. I said Okay, so we talked. And finally I said, You're never going to convince me that what you did was right. Nor are you going? I'm going to convince you that what I said was right. Let's just leave it at that. Next day is like nothing ever happened. I have great respect for him as a person, the home run in Game One of the 90 serious has to be very high on your all time Highlight list. No question about that, because, except the tone for the entire World Series, I mean, he hit it to straightaway center up on the concourse and riverfront, and he hit it off at that time, one of the best pitchers in the game and Dave Stewart. All right. Here's player number four in 10 players and hat. Mm. But I'm all time favorite players, Kevin Mitchell. As good A hitter's I think I've ever seen Hey, could get up. You're the old statement of been baseball. Get up at 3 15 on Christmas morning and it'll I drive somewhere and a happy go Lucky guy, a guy that came from a terrible gang related background in San Diego. I have incredibly good relationship with him. Um, And even then, the years later, when the Reds would go into San Diego to play the Padres, and he'd show up in the first thing you do is come find me and give me a big hug. Um, hey, could hit I mean, there is no question he could hit I A Zeiss say he's one of my all time favorite players, and I always look forward to seeing him. All right. We're hitting the halfway point. No William opinions or Homer Bailey. She has disappointed. All right. The next one is Ronnie. Oh, stir Right, O, sir, I think in his playing days didn't like me a whole lot. Hey, love Joe here, Joe had a wonderful I think Ron was resentful that I was critical about players on the team or the team in general. Um, in the years after he retired. I don't know whether it was a case of him. Uh, maybe understanding a little bit better that my job was not born. My comments were not born out of a personal Vendetta or nature against anybody, and he and I have had become good friends. We don't see each other very often, but I think we're both happy to see each other when we do. He made a comment. When I went into the Hall of Fame, he said. He sent me this long text message which I still have and at the end of it, he said, But I got to tell you something Before I close. I am shocked. That's somebody that kick your but one of the great lives of all time, and you wouldn't have wanted him to be. The guy would not have wanted him to be the guy? Absolutely, because if we have to, we have to pick up sides to fight. My first two picks. Not necessarily in this order would be radio stir and Ray Knight. They would be my top two. It's a good spot. Toronto's too to be. I'm sure he's very proud of that distinction. All right, Here comes Player number six. Scott Rolen. Quite honestly, I think this team needs just got rolling right now. But they don't have that incredible leader in the clubhouse. A no nonsense guy. I say this with great prejudice. I think he deserves to be in the baseball Hall of Fame. Whether he gets there or not, I don't know, but I think he deserves to be I felt it was a privilege to just be around him in the time that he was with this club because of his approach to the game on it was such an approach that I think other players took their cue from him by watching the way he handled himself on the field and off. Um, Andre. It's almost as if he's no longer existed. He's disappeared. You know, he's he's not in the limelight anymore. I think he's very content because he's a wonderful family man..

I'll smoke no horse. I'll yoke soon. Yeah and it's just you know again. A traditional was written by cathal. Makarfi mcgarvy catholic. Mcgarvy kyle mcgarvy from eighteen sixty six to nineteen twenty seven so it was written sometime in that area. Pretty big windows a big window. Assume probably in the early nineteen hundreds. He wrote this on and it was picked up by the chieftains and van morrison and is in this nineteen eighty eight song again. Just kind of reminds me of of grolier. Linda makes me want to visit there. And although when i go i'm going to be smoking. Pipes and yoke horses. I well yoke is like. Is that like the like the troll. Yeah i don't have that control. Is that the control panel for the horse with you. Mean the bride. Like the steering wheel. What used to control the horse and just learn something. I'm assuming i'm gonna go with. Yes you're right and i seem it. Spelled y o k e and not why o. l. k. A yoke is a wooden beam normally used between a pair of oxen or other animals to enable them to pull together on a load when working in peers. Okay so it's not a driver. it's not a. it's not a steering wheel okay. I think your colds the horses together or the auction together. Mainly sheep the use them to no it. Doesn't it just mentions ox sheep free. Yes they do all own free did you. Did you see sheep out there. Did you a sheep and do not share sheep is you should share a sheep. I guess it's not obscure because it did go to number one in the uk in nineteen eighty five. Do you remember the song. A good heart by fergal sharkey. No good goodhart by shark here okay. I'm probably mispronouncing a to feargal feargal for fergal fergal. Fergal sharkey fergal fergal sharkey. That sounded more english than irish shawki. Fergal sharkey okay. So we're going with fergal fergal. Sharkey fergal sharkey. This please tell me about was so this is fergal. Sharkey is he well. "In Mac on KNBR, 1045 and 6 80, these sports leader. There he is, man. This they just don't make them like Steve Young is really Don't Holla fame quarterback who whose ability to relate to just Common sports fan in his area is second and as greatest Joe is, he doesn't have that quality of steps. The only guy who's like that, But you know, even Steph, I think, bok it calling in just on his own, you know? Steve's different man. Steve's different, not a giant who would do that There's not Ah, athletic. There's not Maybe Dave Stewart. Maybe of the A's would have done that back in the day. I could have seen that do it. At the peak of our friendship. I could have seen the Sergio Romo doing stuff like that. He was pretty loose with where and when he'd check in. You know what I mean? True, true, but Sergio, with all due respect, while he's a three time World Series champ is not a hall of Famer, you know, like Stevie Wonder. Yeah. You go back and watch Steve play too. You know, it's funny. I've just somehow somewhere. Yeah, looking back. I came across some highlights recently and no to the first one you wanna talk about? I mean this dude, this dude could let it rip Polly nine and let it rip and he put it in stride. We talked about his Jimmy G and all this is he put the ball In stride where it needed to go. I remember well, there's I mean, first of all, like when he started talking about the Super Bowl that he played in and won and got an M V P award. I started thinking just about how potent that offense was like that particular year. 94 that offensive mean You'd be hard pressed. I mean, they're pretty much as good as any offense. You're going to see anywhere any time. I mean, with Taylor and Rice with Ricky Waters with Brent Jones. I mean, all these guys and the offensive line in front of Steve was I mean, bloated with talent. I mean, that was that unit Murph and even the backup. So guys coming in off, you know, off the bench. They were all bad ass is they were just that That team was stacked. The Chargers have no chance They had no chance. None chance. Eight touchdowns too. And like you said, you know, you get to that moment, boy him talking about the chiefs just that total disintegration of the Chiefs and the stupid ball, he said the same thing. They were like they were not on the same page from the jump, like right from the big grocery Chantelle. How do you explain that? Me? I don't know. I guess that really bad energy and karma with that Britt Reid accident. That was when I saw that happen that Thursday night Friday morning. We were in the forecast. Was like, I don't really want to, You know, you know you hate talking about human story? No, it's I wasn't gonna riff on it. But I was gonna say that boy, the energy is awful. Taking the chief's right now with that hanging over the team is really bad. And sure enough, it played at me who knows what kind of role it truly did play but Probably played some role. I would think he was. He was out of it, man, and they just they were. They were zoned out. They just didn't know what they were doing it and like, Young said, I mean, they played those two high safeties. You know, every have been watching all these film breakdown from the day you were smarter than me and you know, they just said where they just said You're not gonna have a big play on us. We're gonna play. Our safety is really high on you all game. All you had to do was be patient and run the ball. And they just refused to be patient and run the ball and they refused to be patient. They refused to be patient. Don't think that thought they had to be patient cause I think their attitude is like a where the Kansas City chiefs were gonna rub our hands together and create some sparks. And we're gonna put some points on the board. But it just they ran up against the defense of what would let him do that as easily as they were used to doing that. I mean, I think I think they probably assumed They were gonna put points on the board as they always do. But that building the bucks weren't gonna let that happen. And what a performance by in the mental that sometimes it's the discipline. I was talking to the Irish boys about it. And I was saying, you know, Brady. I mean, yeah, I can think of a couple of great throws. The touchdown to grant was a nice one. But it was it was not. You know, it wasn't It was an earth shattering. Which one the one where he ran to the left. Like Actually, when he rolled that one. The second one was like I was. Yeah, I was saying Brady was so disciplined and just took. He just did what he needed to do. It just checked down little bubble screen too much. There's my guide laser touchdown. Yes. And Chiefs just refused to do that. But the other thing that was interesting that Eve, Young told us was like, he said, usually on in this case with this Super Bowl. It was neither guy but he said. Usually it's a guy who's never been on that stage before will start to buckle and start to get overwhelmed delivered by the scope in the largeness of the whole thing. These you guys have been on that stage before. Hey, the great Sam Farmer did a great thing. He has such a good relationship with people. As you know, when he comes on the air. You feel like you've known them forever, right? Um, he said he had the balls to call it. Bruce Arians of the Monday and say, Hey, body in his Sami voice. Yeah, buddy. How's about if I swing by your house and hang out for story and said, Come on, by So through Syria. Seems like he's the happiest dude in America right now. It looks like so much fun to hang with him right now, man. Come on, but he went to carry in his living room and just hung out with him and his kid love it. And he did a picture of just the morning after areas his grand kids running around the front yard, and he just had Arians in his in his easy chair in the living room, and he was reflecting on things, and one of the things he said, was that nobody really ever knew this..

"In the San Jose Sharks news yesterday that the Sharks I'm going to be allowed to return home to San Jose to start playing some games on February 13th What about two weeks here start to be able to return home. They said Wednesday that he returned to the shark tank in San Jose for home games against the Anaheim Ducks on February 13th and 15th and they'll play the remainder of their home schedule there without fans, so Santa Clara County and theme the San Jose Sharks get together and figure this thing out. So sharks fans, you won't be out there watching your team play be always get to Ah! It's under their plan in their hometown. They won't be the Arizona Sharks anymore, which, by the way is like, adds a whole weird wrinkle to this Cactus League thing, which Alex Coffee who's going to join us tomorrow? By the way here in the leadoff spot, she covers the A's for the athletic. She's also just a good baseball writer in general has got a lot of great stories over the last year or so surrounding the pandemic, and some of the legends of the game is a great piece on on Sandy Koufax and Dave Stewart, anyway. Um, she she had released their article yesterday on the athletic. Maybe it was two nights ago after that report about the Cactus League, sending a letter signed by many of the mayors and city officials in Arizona regarding delaying the start of spring training. Now, apparently, the way this went down is it was zoom call between the Cactus League and some of the mayor's and maybe an executive for Major League Baseball. There was a report to Alex Kavi. A source reported to her that Major League Baseball had asked the Cactus League to write this letter. In order to postpone the start of spring training because they were not on the same page as the Players Association. Now Major League Baseball has denied this. I don't know that you call it an accusation. They said that this was not something that was true where they did not ask the Cactus League to do so. The Cactus League then came back and said, no, that we weren't asked to do this. We said that we were we were comfortable in doing so because it would have been smart for us to delay the start, however. If we do decide to start on time, we will be prepared to do so. So there's a lot of back and forth right now. They don't totally know. I still I guess. Still whether or not they're starting on time or whether, after going to report to spring training on time, So this is this is just a funky situation. The weird thing is in saying they want to delay spring training. You had the Sanderson Sharks playing games in Arizona. You have errors. They're sort of wild playing games with limited fans in attendance, and that's indoors. The Phoenix Suns are playing games indoors or talking Stick Resort arena, so it would serve the reason that you'd be okay playing outdoor baseball, you would think in Arizona, So Arizona by the way, Also, America Open County has the highest covert rate right now in the country. For 100,000 residents. That's the other element here, but bottom line is we just don't know what it is. When it comes to Major league baseball spring training. We just don't know people are checking in on the cast pretext line and for 156. Yeah, I would definitely say that Kelly, you berate junior would be a fan favorite. I can hear it now. Just like a Giants games with re bay. I could see fans going. Ooh, Bray, like what? That work instead of a new Rebate. Can we just do it? Who? Brain That's not asking, but I can see it. They're not booing. They're saying you, Bray. Yeah, that's pretty good. Yeah, for advice is definitely would be a fan favorite. Another 415 checks in and says dubs are ready to take out some or good teams. And if you want to join the conversation for 158, a wheat NPR is the number two text. Let's get to a fun piece of sound that went viral yesterday. I guess this is from the postgame zoom call from Monday night, so the Warriors beat Minnesota at home Monday. Anthony Edwards taken number one overall in the draft. It was kind of fun last night, seeing him and Wiseman go back and forth because at one point I think he had 15 points and 23 pointers made and Wiseman and 14 points and 33 pointers made. It was just kind of fun to watch them go back and forth with each others. They were the top two picks in the draft. And when, when the Warriors get to see Murph Charlotte Hornets, We'll get another look at that. Two where wise men are going to go up against Lem ello ball. But here's Anthony Edwards. This is after Monday night's game, Steph goes off is a big night. He had 30 points in that game. They asked the Anthony Edwards about seeing Steph Curry. We broke this up into a few parts here. Here he is, just after the game, just kind of in awe of seeing this guy on the floor. I mean, Steph Curry is, uh, it's I mean, Step. Came came in the game and score like 12 point straight by myself. So that was that was the difference. Way brought it down. Came back. We fought back and then you know, he just Stand in the game made even more all by yourself. It's It's so funny. Like what you see. I was saying earlier like my crinkle always says, you step into the batter's box in your face, and I don't know Randy Johnson. You always think about. You know, if you're a young guy, you're taking your first big league hack. And here he is the big unit on the mound. It just must seem faster. It must look faster. You must look bigger, like everything's right in front of you now, right, It's It's just different now. Stuff is not bigger than anybody. But he is quicker than a lot of people and he's got tons of energy. Every Edward Siri is on trying to Guard Steph when he's on the floor alongside him. Hey, never stopped moving. So I mean, you could try toe switch everything. So whatever keeps us keep switching, but You're gonna make him a statement. I mean, You're gonna make a mistake. I don't know how you got so much energy. Yeah. He played the whole first quarter and didn't and never stopped moving. It's just hard to.

"S O. We talked at length yesterday obviously, might half the show we had Madam President Susan Slusser, the former President of Baseball Writers Association of America, The only female never be voted that position. They change it annually every year. Now the giant beat writer We had Jeff Idelson. It was the president of the hall for over a decade and 25 years with the hall. So we were not surprised when at 3 15 are times on the voting came down. And no one was voted No one got the required 75% of the vote. But that just starts a little bit of the story of what happened yesterday. And the first thing we have to do Is separate. Curt Schilling. Who is on field accomplishment. Is very borderline if he's a hall of Famer at all. Because most of the Hall of Fame I mean, Jack Moore said to wait a long time. Dave Stewart never did get into the Hall of Fame and I start shillings most of his resume. Has been built on the postseason. He's had some dominant years took him a while to get his career going. I remember him in the American League with Baltimore, not a very good player, Houston Got better Philadelphia better than obviously Arizona in Boston, the bloody sock and the whole thing, But I mean, 216 wins. Vita Blue is very close to that. Vita has three world serious championships as well. So just is a As a on field accomplishment. If we're going to get into what they do in the postseason, then big time, Timmy Jim Tim Lincecum, we're gonna have Andrew Bagley. Apartment. Alex Pavlovich, join us to 10 30. He's gonna be on the ballot for the first time and Timmy's You know career even though it's littered with Cy Youngs and And no hitters. He does not have the resume of a Hall of Fame pitcher. But if you get a look at the postseason, Madison Bumgarner so first of all we have to Clearly delineate the on field accomplishments to just lump shilling bonds and Clemens together is laughable. Curt Schilling, some could make it argument is a Hall of Famer. I could make it argument is not And then his behavior reprehensible on social media's costume is his job as a broadcaster, and he keeps going on and on about what happened on January, the sixth and Caricatures about sports writers. So with anyone often he did, actually John he did at the end. When he got the voted yesterday. He did what I've been advocating Barry Bonds to do throughout the process after a couple of swings and misses at this, just take me off the ballot. I don't want to be in to bail out on the bed anymore. I mean, come on, look at my history of your bond. So Schilling tried that route. He's close. He's 16 votes away from being and try next year on his 10th and final shot at it. I don't know how that will impact him, but clearly when we put him in the conversation words shilling bonds. Clemens. That's not one of these. Don't don't match up. It's shilling. He's over there in the maybe category, the other two guys on on field accomplishments or our first ballot lock Hall of Famers. If you're playing a game among the Hall of Fame, Clemens may start the game is a right handed pitcher. And Barry Bonds. If he's not playing left field is certainly the D. H If you have a G H in the game, so it's just laughable and then I mean, Susan kind of felt like bonds would get in at some point, but the numbers we saw yesterday town, it's very possible very possible. He got 61 point. 8% of the votes and the Rockets 61.6. So they gotta jump up that much in one calendar year, the way Larry Walker did in his final year of eligibility. We're looking at the real possibility that Barry Bonds never goes into the Hall of Fame. Right, because, like you said the senior Committee, which would then it would be deferred to Have been pretty staunch in the fact that they were gonna put Bonds or Clemens in Susan said yesterday If you missed the conversation that she thinks, because a lot of the older Voters were kind of falling off. And the trend now is to vote more for Schilling and bonds for the younger guys, we're gonna be coming forth. Maybe he would get in or she thought he would get in. I don't know. Like you said it looked early because we gave you about 50% of the vote early, and they were All in the seventies, and that didn't turn out to be the case. Like I said, Not a lot of people voted for Clemens or Bonds at the end, and so, yeah, like you said, just low sixties. For their percent. They'd have to jump up quite a bit as far as Schilling, he says. The following I will not participate in the final years. You're voting and request to be removed to the ballot. I'll defer to the Veterans Committee and men whose opinion Actually matters. Aaron, who are in a position to actually judge, a player, Unquote Baseball Writers Association, has come forth and said he will not be removed from the ballot. But we'll see. You know he's 16 away. So you know, based on that he was trending in the right direction. I think most people after we saw What Schilling out yesterday, which was, you know, 71% of the vote. 71.1% is 16 votes away. S so now we'll see how the writers react. Torto. You know him questioning whether or not their opinion even matters, But the thing that bothers me is I said he just needs to lump the three of them together. They were not compare Doble careers. The first judge, Bonds and Clemens are locks. Seven time M V p, the only in history seven time Cy Young Award winner, the only in history. The other guy. I put a money making argument to me. Why, if he gets in that I think you know, lets you come now. I don't think Tim will get in. But I'll be anxious to see next year, his first year on the ballot. How many votes we will get in. I think it'll be more than Tim Hudson. I barely got over 5% and Barry Zito got just one vote overall, so he's off the ballot and then Madison Bumgarner if you want to compare post seasons Baumgartner's a three time World Series champion, his role in certain world serious foreigners profound, but in 2014..

"Join us at 11 50. Madam, president of the Baseball Writers Association of America, the first and so far only you're not currently the president Susan Slusser. We'll go through her ballot and she had some interesting choices. I mean, the Uh, The bottom line here is and I get on the soapbox that makes this speech every year, and I'm getting tired of it. But we're talking about the only seven time most Valuable Player award winner in the history of baseball. They didn't give out the M V P award throughout the entirety. Of the history of the game, but still he's the only seven time M V p could have one more Could have one panel Gion took one from him can took one from him. He could've had nine or 10. But very Lamar bonds is the only seven time M v P and the rocket Roger Clemens. Is the only seven time Cy Young Award winner to have a hall of Fame and museum. One thing I want to get into a Jeff Idelson. Is there There is the Rotunda, the big area where all the plaques or display that's the hall. But there's also a museum there. That tells the history of baseball good and bad from Ty Cobb and Shoeless Joe. The Black Sox scandal, everything that's happened You know Jackie Roosevelt Robinson. We celebrate him breaking the color Berry April 15th 1947. How about the, you know? How many Jack age did we play were African Americans. Blacks were not allowed to play. You know, we're so we got to celebrate it all good and bad and You know how I feel about bonds and Clemens should go in. You know, Schilling if Schilling goes in That I gotta you know, why is Dave Stewart not in the Hall of Fame if Curt Schilling goes in, and I'm not talking about his politics? You know if you're gonna throw all the character quote unquote claws out. Then I guess you gotta throw it out for for Curt Schilling. So I don't know exactly how you wrap your brain around that, but it's not only a Hall of fame. It is a museum. And I haven't been there in a number of years. I was there in 2000 and nine, I think was the last time I was there, and there was hardly any mention. Of the all time Hitch. King Peter Edward Rose and 4256 heads to There's No. It was our legal team action of the home run King. Was 7 62 and bonds, So we'll get idle since thoughts a little bit about how we just Wrap this around. And if, in fact it is true that bury in the rocket, don't make it. You know, there there. This is it, they could have one more plate appearance. Next year, so And there is the you know, the Veterans Committee they established. Harold Baines was able to go in that way. I don't know if that it may be harder for For bonds to make it that way. Joe Morgan was very out, spoken about him not getting in that way, although I think shows softened a little bit before he was lost Jo this year. About the overall candidacy of very but We'll find out. I thought it was gonna be right in the middle of our show would be the announcement at high noon, but the network and they're doing a beautiful celebration of and Karen's life. Right now with the commission, another speaking, which is just beautiful. They're going to begin their show at noon. I thought they were gonna announce the Hall of Fame in nude so they're going to do I think they're doing it like 3 15 our time chance, So it's so good to have a nice three hour and 15 minute pregame show to basically say. No one is going in from the class of 2021. So we'll have Jeter and Larry Walker and Walker just barely got in. Here's the other thing, too. And you just mentioned this. You've got to address this. It's some point. You can't just sweep it under the rug because in 2022 Alex Rodriguez and David Ortiz. They're going to be eligible for the first time. So as bonds and Clemens will get their 10th and final opportunity, at least this way, you're gonna have to look at a rod in Ortiz and I would have thought that Alex Rodriguez would never get in. But then He has done all this PR work over the last number of years and so have people softened on him. David Ortiz, I would think would get in. If he's not the greatest designated hitter of all time, He probably is, and that's a position. So how are they going to deal with that? So it's not going to just go away. They have to deal with this in some way, shape performing as you just pointed out. It's a museum so and look, I I understand why people don't do it. I understand that they there's There's a reason why they don't put him in. But Don't think that the way that they've approached, it is the right way. And my point is, and I haven't been there in like 12 years, but there was even in the museum part. There was very little, you know, mention of feet Rose and a Barry Bonds and I just thought, you know, I'm taking my son's through there on my daughter's. I'm like I need some the history the game if you don't tell them anything about very bad's or the rocket. I mean, the rocket you can, you know, go into the Yankees and getting a world Syriza with it after his career at the Red Sox, whatever he did with his trainer, McNamee up in Toronto. It's all conjecture. I don't know. We all have our own thoughts at it. But Roger Clemens was that job If you just would've retired after his red sock career to make the Hall of Famer and likewise bonds before You know he had the injuries, and Mac and Sosa stage their home run Derby to break Maris's record. But with a Rod and Alex Rodriguez. I often wonder if him and you know he was there for the inauguration because J. Lo saying before kind of shows up everywhere. I've often wondered if he would just come out of retirement. He's four home runs away from 700. He had 690 Six home runs, which is my numbing mind numbing but you know he was implicated, and he basically had, you know, she took a lot of punishment. He lost a chunk of a year and it was career not mourn a lot of money. But, yeah, I mean, if if they put a fraud in the Hall of Fame over very, you know, that's just not consistent. I don't think they're going to do that..

"Peak command is curveball. Through that outside those out to outside two strings of the outside part that strike zone like it was nothing in it. And if you've watched a major league curve ball, you know that that's not a pitch that you can really say. This is where it's going to go, but he could do that. I mean, he really, really took care of me as a young player coming up and showing me the ropes. Well, you know what I'm learning about. Don Sutton. Is something you just mentioned that he was so free with advice and tips on how to pitch. Guys are very protective of of their knowledge because they don't know if they give it to someone if it's gonna be used Against them at some point in time, But again, this is what I'm learning, you know, just you know, the news of Sutton's passing just reading remembrances. It's been hearing stories or reading stories about him is that he didn't mind at all. Passing along his his baseball specifically pitching knowledge to others, and that's a trait that is absolutely to be admired because it it seems to be a rarity. Do you just unbelievable individual then and human being and Uh, you know that I I don't I don't even have the words to describe how much he meant to me. And how impactful he wasps in the early stages of my career. You know they're there. There are people in your career that helped with the foundation of who you are the picture and help you to establish who you wanna be. And They say things that stick with you and you remember throughout your career, and he was very, very impactful on my career. Still, he was in a lot of ways very much a bridge guy from generations to it to the next generation. I mean, he was in a rotation that had co fax and drives down, caught O'Steen as a young man and then you know by the mid seventies. You know, he's still you know very much anchoring that Dodger rotation with Tommy John and then himself, Um, you know, some Burt Hooton on and really a step. This is all pre Ramon Martinez and Hersh iser. Really? What a great lineage of Dodger arms. But he was He was there through most of it and kind of connected generations. I mean, you know, even Post his season post season. You know, I'm going into the broadcasting when ever I saw him. We would have something to laugh about, or something to talk about from the old days, but No more importantly, talk about what was going on in today and current events and Just like I said, an unbelievable human being and hey, will be missed. Dave Stewart. Nice enough to join us here on the Tolbert Kruger and Brooks show. Switch the baseball make the somewhat awkward transition to talking about games. Um, the Padres and you can understand. I mean, they've been building up to this four years. Um, and obviously the success they had this past season success they had in the postseason. They're feeling themselves and rightfully so. But I like how they are mashing the gas in terms of their desire to top of the Dodgers and And when that organization's first world, Syria's they're not messing around. They're being very upfront and they're stockpiling arms. And this goes back to, you know, late last year when they picked up a couple of guys late from Cleveland. That they are very out front about their desire to go and get this thing and get it going right now. They're not beat around the bush. You know, I've said this 1000 times, and now this would be 1000 and one Um, There are a lot of teams that play very, very good baseball last year, but as fans and as people who are inside the game, let's not forget they only played 60 games, not 162. Right and so through a 60 game season way scene. You seeing people with the awards, for example, you had guys that have had Career seasons for 12 starts. That in 33 starts there nowhere. They're they're nowhere is around. Um, you had teams that showed up in the playoffs and played very well in the playoffs. But Over 162 games. Over that marathon. That's when you find out how good your team is there a lot of talented teams on paper teams that can play well for short period of time. But in an extended period of time. You know you have injuries You have Loaves and months where you have a month that you don't play well where you have too much that you don't play well and so The potteries. They are very good, young, talented team. They got great young talent on that team. Um, but the White Sox, the Padres, um The Braves. There are a lot of teams that over the extended period of time. I'd like to see how well they play over an extended period of time over 100 and 62 names and not a 60 game season, and that's no no offense to any of those teams. You have to credit them. They're all great, young, talented teams, But talent is not the sole survivor. Of winning a season. Along with the talent, You have to have great knowledge of the game and how to play the game. Situations what you do and situational play. It could bring the whole package together because 162 games you get worn out. You get tired, and so you have to supplement in other ways. Still, let's talk a little bit about the big news of the week connected to you. You know, when people think of you they think of the Oakland A's. You spent eight years there. You want a world championship there. Um, and you.

"In the bubble. Um, By the way, maybe we should even count Miami. All those covert things rabbits them is one of the teams to look for anything. I still think it's going to come down to the way. Kevin Durant's playing right now, and he looks like It looks like he is in Mr Beat. Looks like he was being back playing for the Warriors when he was healthy, and he was the finals M v p There's nobody else in the East who really has a player like Kevin Durant, who, you know. Yeah, You know what? In the last few minutes of playoff game he's gonna close this game is going to score 66 points in a row. He's gonna hit a bunch of jumpers. I mean, The level he's playing and guys. That's why you know, even though hardens got the track record of being a playoff disappointment with meltdowns and all kinds of failures, and Houston that's why Philadelphia wanted them because they have never replaced Jimmy Butler in that role where You know the shot clock's winding down. I got to get a basket I got. I got somebody make a play. It's not indeed it's not Ben Simmons and ain't Tobias Harris. That's why they really wanted James Hart. So right now, I kind of put Brooklyn at the top of that pecking order, And we'll see what Miami does with Jimmy Butler, because I'll tell you what I mean. We saw on the bubble last year You had all kinds of craziness with Jamal, Mary and people were playing out of their minds in a perfect environment for these players without crowds and no road games and all that, and you saw you know what Duncan Robinson and he wrote it. But to me, the guy who had the biggest break out with Jimmy Butler because I I never thought Jimmy Butler in the playoffs with that impressive Last year impressed. Let's see if that translate to this uber right now. Kevin Durant's stays healthy guys. I mean, I got to put the Nets at the top. And there's no way that the Miami Heat are the 12th best team in anybody's called especially playing without out of by. They've been playing without dragging time this year. Look, the Celtics have been ravaged. We don't know what the Washington Wizards are ever gonna play again. Maybe it's better off. They don't even take the court sees things. I mean, this thing going on with this pandemic and you knew was gonna be different cause you're not in a bubble. Has just been killing play the quality of placement awful for the most part teams can practice guys, remember? Somebody said that Danny ain't you gonna You know, you'll be playing tomorrow. This is when they after they missed a few games he goes. Between now the day before and tomorrow we've got to get 17 guys got to get tested, and I'll let you know that's what everybody's up against. It's a terrible situation. But this is part of the pandemic. And you know what? At least these guys have jobs and they're making money and in some cases like Kyrie, Irving They can absorb a million dollar hit and they're still okay. Means we thank you for your time. And your insight, my man. Be well, Hopefully, we'll talk to you down the road is this season a safe guys? Yeah, keeping time. Thanks, Mitch. "Will join us at the bottom of the hour to talk all things in B a warriors. Carry Irving's return G. I wonder why is he coming back? Does it have anything to do with the Brooklyn Nets success over the last couple of games? Now it's got nothing to do with that. We'll talk to Mitch Laurence about the MBA, the great Dave Stewart. Joining us at three o'clock. The just is great in a different discipline. Scott Ostler, columnist for Your San Francisco Chronicle, joining us had four in two day Well, every day's a good day to talk to Steve Kerr today and especially Good day to talk to Steve Kerr, because Larry The Golden State Warriors last night did something to a LeBron James team that LeBron James has never had done to him and that is blowing and almost 20 point lead in the game. Which is ah, where the Lakers were up. I think it was 18 19 points. I forget exactly at various points in the game, but blow to double digit lead in the fourth quarter and the Warriors specifically Steph Curry. Doing it in absolute style is going to be a lot of shots. They're gonna be shown when it comes to putting out a retrospective for steps career and we have seen some great ones. But last night is in that book. Because what he did to Anthony Davis was nothing short of foul and spectacular all at the same time, a step back behind the back three over a guy. With a 9 ft wingspan, Steph Curry you a bad, bad man. I'll tell you Who else like your last night ride was Kelly you, Bray? I mean, that's the bet. Seenu, bre look this year. 23, But that doesn't really tell the story. I mean, get four boards yet. A couple steals. He had a couple blocks. He was active. He went to the basket. How about the play that he seemed to have mastered now where he throws the ball out of bounds off? You hear me? He did that to Marcus Ali did it to shrewder on Ben? The job that he didn't LeBron He hounded LeBron and, um, you know, LeBron six of 16 shooting. On the night for for the king. So, Kelly, you bray. Come on down. Have yourself a game was great. It was great to see He's the kind of he's the kind of athlete that can really bother LeBron because You think of you, Bray and you forget he's not 64. He's 67. So you've got great length great quickness on a 67 frame, and you saw it last night, man he's got he's he can get LeBron's right up on LeBron and challenge him and it's awesome to watch. So you're calling there right now. Kelly, you break, Junior is the LeBron stoppers that which is a problem. Stop! No, no, no, Don't don't say you know. Please don't ever say nobody's nobody's LeBron stopper, but the Warriors, you know, Had you spilled for bodies, Adam. Right. It was Katie was All I was was link that all kinds of guys and now in a river in a variety, you guys now it's like, Hey, you know what if you break and play LeBron that well Uh, you know, I love the way he had them up and down the floor. No, just outstanding night for the Warriors. I mean, shooting 50% from the field overall clampdown defense and the fourth quarter warriors harassing the Lakers in the 19 turnovers, 23 points. Off of those turnovers. Um, yeah. All right, fine. You know, letting getting yourself kicked around here for the first three quarters, especially the first half. Is that the ideal way to do it? By the way that they claim down in the fourth quarter was quite impressive. While in the meantime, getting things done on the offensive in S O credit to the Warriors were doing what they did last night. Quite the wind doing it. It's spectacular fashion, and indeed it was all hands on deck. Steph is obviously the head of the snake and what he was able to do last night. But, Larry, you're right you Bray was active. He had He has a full box score loony just to throw out another name. Draymond Green was doing usual Draymond Green's things of what points, But it was doing all the other little things just just an outstanding effort by the Warriors last night specifically In the fourth quarter when things came to a head air Paschal to eat eight final 12 minutes of the game. Eric Paschal's really You know, showing Maura or Morshed scoring ability that I you know, I I loved him at Villanova. Um, hey, was a good player on winning teams, but he was not, You know, his offense of game just kind of came around his final year there. He's taken it to another level offensively and, you know, I mean outside of Steph, he was their leading scorer down the stretch. Another good game for Andrew Wiggins as well. You know 7 11 from the field three or five from behind the three point line. Um, you know, and it's just me personally like to see him go to the hole a bit more get a little bit more action at the free throw line, but I mean, that's that's another solid performance from from him, so I mean, it's you know, you want a bit more consistency from the warriors that you think back then this was a while ago because they didn't play in Phoenix. But you know what? We saw what we didn't see, you know, which is a spark at the beginning of the game against against the Nuggets. You know, for the Warriors. What you looking for? Now is consistency. But to get these flashes, you know, considering how the war you started the beginning of the season. You know those first two games, but before Christmas And how bad they look to where they are right now. You take it in your run with it. I think now that's going to get to the point where there are expectations of this war your team to look as they have for the seven wins of the season, so You're looking out for those guys. That was fun last night specifically in the fourth quarter. Oh, man, it was fun. And any time you can see a team, you know, start to come together and I know a lot of people were critical. People are super critical of the kid Wiseman to me. I mean, he's averaging 10 and six he shooting almost. We owe 48%, which is, you know, that's not bad. The guy's had a 33 game college career. You know, I just think people got a temper their expectations on what he's going to be right away. He's gonna He's going to people with the best lineup doesn't have him in it. And so on and so forth. It's an investment. I mean in and he's definitely worth investing into me. Shown plenty. He sure enough to him that for the investment, you know, man, 19 years old, three games in college, and you know who he's had to butt heads with over the last couple of games, the two best big men in the NBA. In your kitchen, Anthony Davis. I'm all allowed. James Wiseman. Some struggles in those matchups are those games. All right. Come on, man, exacted who's not struggling against those guys? Come on. What are we talking about here? Yeah. No, I mean to me. I mean, I'm just looking for flashes and growth and the kids seems to be a total willing student to get better. And, you know, I mean, it's just to me it Z. I wasn't expecting anything out of him right out of the chute and 10 and six you know for rookie. I'll take that right now. I'm pleased with with Wiseman, I realized There are times where you know he doesn't see the game like he's going to. But I mean, you got I mean, I'm thinking wow for a 19 year old kid who had no college to be thrown in there against the best centers in the in the prime of their careers. You know, I mean to me he's holding his own. I just I don't even know who you're listening to that have whatever their complaints are James Wiseman. I will tell you this Stop listening to those people. Yeah. That's my only bit of advice and be warrior warrior. Twitter like turns on James Wiseman at the drop of a hat for sugar. Well, that makes my point. If they'll turn on him at the drop of a hat. Why are you paying attention to what they're saying? I thought that's a great question, Rod, but I know it's one to ponder. That's all I'm saying. That's all I'm saying. Anybody who's throwing, you know the bus word around with James Wiser anybody was talking about. Well, he's not that good. Or what did they do this or why can't he be? You know what can you match up with those guys that Zach come on, man..

Why Should You Bring Ear Plugs to Music Festivals?

"Today's episode is brought to you by Oregon. Fifty that's peo- d five zero Oregon home is where the bugs aren't. Welcome to brain stuff. A production of iheartradio. Hey, brain stuff. I'm Lauren Vogel bomb. And as I record this we're in the throes of music festival season. These multi day concert art debauchery parties can be a blast but research shows that they can also be a bummer for your ears, the sheer length of some music festivals. For example, each weekend of Coachella runs three days with ten plus hours of Buzek every day, a, plus the widespread use of alcohol and drugs could inflict serious damage on your hearing with potentially permanent consequences. We spoke with Marshall Chason an audiologist from Toronto who specializes in hearing loss prevention for musicians. He says that there's nothing inherently bad about going to the occasional loud concert or cranking, your headphones up. Toback Salyan to listen to your favorite song, as long as you do it in moderation. That's where three day music festivals. Become a problem. There's a point at which all sounds above eighty five decibels equivalent to the dial tone. Telephone can inflict permanent hearing damage exposure, eighty five decibels of noise seems harmless enough? But if you listened to a dial tone forty hours a week for. A full year you'd suffer some level of permanent hearing loss. And if you turn up the volume to ninety four decibels, which is about halfway to full volume on an MP three player all it would take five hours a week to damage your hearing. Chason said, it's the total dose that matters much like a radiation dose, a single x Ray here. And there won't hurt you, but thirty seven x-rays in a short period could be problematic rock music at a live concert can easily reach a hundred and ten decibels at that volume. Your ears start sustained permanent damage after only two minutes of daily exposure, it's especially important to give your ears arrest. Once they've suffered some short term hearing loss that buzzing ringing or numbness in your ears after attending allowed concert. There's a recovery period of sixteen to eighteen hours during which your ears are particularly sensitive to further. Loud noises chasing said there's nothing wrong with going to a rock concert on Friday night. Just don't mow the lawn on Saturday morning in be careful about attending yet another rock concert on Saturday. If you don't let your ears rest, there are several ways that they can suffer lasting damage the inner ear smaller the tip of your pinkie finger in contains the cochlea a fluid filled. Snail shaped chamber lined with thousands of hair cells. Plumbed exposure to very loud noises. Disturb the fluid in the cochlea so violently that the hair cells bend, or break never to grow back, another source of permanent hearing damage says Chason lies deeper in the brain where nerve cells carry signals from the ear to nor on the process. Sounds growing research shows that overloading those neural pathways with loud noises can disrupt the connection creating situations where the neurons kit detect the signals coming from the ear. Luckily, the solution to noise, induced hearing loss for music festivals is simple. We're earplugs. Lots of concert goers, avoid wearing earplugs because they think it will muffle the music and ruin the experience. But that only applies to the cheap foamy disposable kind which to be fair. I've had perfectly fine experiences with however, there are excellent in obtrusive earplugs on the market. The protect the air from dangerous sound levels without distorting. The quality of the music professional musicians have been using them for decades. These are designed to evenly lower noise levels, somebody's much as twenty decibels across the hearing spectrum not just the high frequencies, you can find them for less than twenty dollars. And they're reusable. Oh forever. Weirdly drug and alcohol use at music. Festivals has also been shown to increase the risk of hearing loss. A study out of the Netherlands, tracked, fifty one participants with a mean age of twenty seven years who attended an outdoor music festival in two thousand fifteen half. We're given earplugs and half were not all were advised to refrain from drugs or alcohol so that they're hearing could be accurately tested after the four and a half hour show as to be expected, not everyone abstained. The resulting data showed the concert goers, who drank beer, or used drugs, like cannabis or MD, A, experienced, worse, short-term, hearing loss. And interestingly, so did male subjects whether on drugs or not? What's not clear from the data is whether the increased hearing loss linked to drugs, alcohol, and being male is biological or behavioral in origin Chason for one is convinced the drugs or male hormones, chemically altered, the inner ear to make it more susceptible to damage patterns of behavior are more likely at play. He said using alcohol or drugs, decreases, your ability to self monitor. So you're more likely to put your head right next to a loudspeaker your judgment is off, by the way, as far as professional musicians. Go more than half fifty two percent of all classical musicians experience hearing loss, compared with only thirty percent of rock musicians, Chason says it's a dose thing with classical musicians exposed more hours of loud issues it over their career than rockers.
