"Welcome back on the fan and Coleman. Dave Simms here will take you right up until the six o'clock hour and it's a pleasure right now to welcome in the former Metsgeneral manager and MLB network radio's own and actually, he's been on the fans so much. I think he's part of the staff now to be Jim Duquette. The Duke is whether they do or how you doing. What's up, guys? Hey, I'm hoping to get on the payroll soon, but he sends his best, said Dan. But I know you know, weigh all know each other so that Beth no doubt No, no Happy anniversary. By the way. I don't know you both 33 years but close with Eddie. I think it's 25 with you, Eddie asleep. It's been awhile. No babies a little less. But still not absolutely. Ah, God. S So what? What your thoughts Just in General Jimmy about you know the covert the opt outs that have come and and how things are progressing over like the 1st 3 days or so You think it's been? It's been really interesting about some of the guys that have opted out. Obviously, David prices You know, the highest profile, but it also it seems, you know, there are a number of players that are kind of going into this. It wasn't necessarily okay, well, because I'm showing up to work out that that means I'm in for the season. There's a lot of guys seem like they're going with the Let's see what happens type of attitude, right which I think I also think is healthy because we don't know what that's gonna look like. You know, the country goes, you know, receipt down, certainly down in the southern states with the virus taken off. So you know if I were players, obviously I'd be watching it carefully, and I'm not putting it up to, you know. Just the commissioner and commissioner Manfred to making this decision. I gotta make a decision for myself and my family and my career, too. So I'd be watching it very carefully. And you know, getting advice from Medical people like I know they are, man. Oh, man, I tell you, you got guys like trout, Sean do little, among others. That's a heck of a decision that's looming in front of a lot of guys. I mean, What you said is interesting. Take it through this two point. Oh, spring training. And then you know there could be some devastating decisions made a day or two before what's a July 2021 22. Yeah. I mean, you know you talk. Those are those are key. Obviously, Trout is a key guys. We know Doolittle's AKI guy, mean even, you know, Buster Posey. I know it's talked about keeping an open mind to it. Andrew Miller. Just think today earlier with the Cardinals was talking about Keeping an eye on it. I think I think it's so healthy way to look at. I know what you guys think I agree with that. And I mean, I mean, it's all kind of like this way have to wait and see where this is that this is you know, we had started this season. Um, you know, try to back. You know, in in April, we couldn't have done it in New York. Certainly, And now that things have gotten better in night, New York and Chicago and those type of these other areas have have taken off. Unfortunately, so, um, I think it should be a wait and see attitude. And really, we could probably take are our little bit of a key off of what the MBA is deciding to because they're in a similar boat. You know, it seems Jimmy that the Freddie Freeman thing seemed to really kind of wake up Some guy. I'm sure woke up his teammates, but I think it probably woke up a lot of people around baseball to Ah, Because if you get the sense that you know, Freddy is not gonna be there at the start of the season. Maybe he may want to continue, but it's going to take awhile here, and that's that's a huge undertaking. Obviously, you don't like to hear anyone get it, but I mean, he was some of these. Some of these players have been. That's a asymptomatic and buddy's eyes profile right of any team, Muna Twins had the Miguel's to know who you know, and he's playing well could be impactful to But Freddie as we've seen either met Killer number one face of the franchise, the face of the franchise, right so You know, I do think and hopefully we won't have any more. I mean, I've been actually pleasantly surprised that there have been lesser cases. I mean, you know you could've I thought there might be no for 5%. That's what the countrywide It's been what between one and 2% right believe so far from what we know. So hopefully Freddy comes back. But like you said, you know, that's the thing with you do get this virus. It's You know, if an impact shit, it's not just, you know, Okay. Come back in two weeks. It saps your energy from people who have been afflicted by, you know, severely, And then you know, what is it going to take another week or so to get your strength back? Try to get your family back at best. So, yeah, that definitely hurts the Braves on the early early going to I talked to a guy I know I've worked with years ago, and he had it when I called. I found out I called him and he was back home and He said. Hey, man, lying in bed turning from the left side to the right side felt like I was running a marathon. It's a bed with disease was so having said that, and we have Kim Jones, our earlier talking about the NFL and I put a similar question. What kind of What kind of quality of play? Might we or should we expect? Uh, coming up 23 24 July. Well, I think that's a really good question. I'm reasonably optimistic that you know the individual, you know, Pitcher versus hitter will see. We'll see a high level. You know you're not going to send pictures out there if they're not ready, and I don't know you know how deep will go, but I do think that that you'll see that part of it. You know, I do wonder on the fundamentals. If they're breaking up camps the way it seems like you know, and it's some some teams were doing P. F P. Wright as a gate so they may have that down. But Cutoffs and relays and little things like that. You know, I don't know how much how many reps taken get ground ball wise or fireball wise, like those are things that I I really wonder about, but I think we'll be pleasantly surprised at the quality of it. If we can play the plate, there's a I like what you said. I like to Kevin if we could play if we get it right because I was trying to tell Eddie yesterday that I was talking to a guy who had heard from GM and that, GM said. No, We don't even know if we're going to get there. So I don't keep everything. And then we just had dusty on. And you know how that hot spot it is down in Houston right now. Not Nala. Just normal heat in July 5 with the freaking. You know, the virus is just rampaging down. Yeah, well, and I don't think I tell you, they, you know Glad you brought up his name because you know I am. I am concerned. We would Dusty Francona's nomad and some of the older managers and coaches. We've seen. Some coaches sit up with the managers. It's hard for the managers. No. Is the leader of your of your team. It's hard to get it out. You know you're at risk, and they are at risk. You know, I've talked to Ron Gardenhire along the way. Scott Service. All these older managers are at risk. So you know, it's one of those that doesn't get talked about an awful lot that players air kind of speaking on their behalf to that, you know, I think we've seen a select number of coaches kind of opt out, and I think that's a smart thing We saw most recently. Brad Mills the You know the Indians bench. Sit down. You sit out. Eric Young Sr. Good guys. Absolutely. You know, it's ah, It's interesting. You bring that up, Jimmy, Because I was thinking, you know, even though you know some of the managers or older I think they feel you know, it's almost their responsibility. I've gotto get through..

Good. It's good to have you with this. Yeah, it's good to be back. And you guys were trying to be back to get him to talk about, you know? Yeah, man. Absolutely. Hey, how's it? How's the first couple three days gone for you guys down and down in Houston. It's going pretty good. I tell you, they will listen to you talking about. You know the ground in mid season form and we've got some guys that you could tell. Been working out and almost like everybody and our our hitters air looking good. You know, the pitches of don't strikes and Man. These guys look like they're almost ready to go. I mean, realised that they still gotta beware of shoulders, hamstrings, quads and things like this off tissue. Muscles, especially but I know the guys are excited already ready to go, You know, does he? We're talking about Graham and coal. And sure. As though you know the horses around baseball and Verlander, Of course you wanted him And he he was banged up a little bit before just before the break. I think came in March. How is he right now? Does it He's great, I say, I think it's probably help him no more than anybody, you know? Yeah. He had a growing problem that he had a surgical repair feeling something a lad gave him time to heal. And you know, he said he feels like he did a couple years ago. So I was trying to figure out how the quality any replaces 50 especially with Cole, you know, sitting for us for New York and Verlander Hood. Do you not feel like better now that I know in the for land was back to himself, that they had to ask you this about you with the covert 19 with that changed our whole world. Coming into spring trader You got signed. Crane brings you in had that news conference. I wish you did that. For my own standpoint, I wish you didn't have to be part of that May of Kulpa. News conference that they had. I thought that was unfortunate. That's putting it mildly weren't family radio, So the next point your team was going to catch all kinds of hell. From folks around Major League baseball, but it's probably good it's got to be significantly lessened. You can't have anybody you know at practice, and we're limited to maybe just 60 games. Is that that that you can't you break there? Well, you d'oh, you know on one hand, but you'd rather play the whole season on hand, but they avoid. I mean, you know, America was angry, You know that. But in the fort, everyone in Fort Myers with the Boston Red Sox choir. You know they were you know, they were angry. You know, we went into Ah, Port ST Lucie would have met our You know they were angry. I mean, you know, everybody was angry and So you know, we did catch a break, You know, so they speak. I mean, you don't want to catch a break at the expensive You know, like, I know the whole world on a pandemic And you know a lot of people dying under. You know, you have to. You have to deal. You know, you know that the players the cards that you're dealt with. I mean, I mean, it's I mean, there's been a lot of things happened this year and six months. I mean, this is probably on President and my only you know the Scambos. God makes no Ah, police brutality and protest And, you know, I mean, crunches LeMond rules right now on no, but on you and I'm really proud of One of our young people the way they stuck together, because you know we were back in the sixties. You know, during the civil rights in the protest, and you know the dogs and hoses, stuff all over the country and Anti prom, anti conformity, anti everything. I was right there in Berkeley. So lived at speed ship. No. Yeah. So I like to say I'm proud of are, you know young because I got a son. You know who's in that same category One going is over, right? Proud. And he raised money. Ah, on instagram for those that were, you know the people that especially, you know, minorities in our home town that were You know that rebooted and vandalized So you know again. Like I said, I'm extremely proud of you. You know you were mentioned in Berkeley dust, the weave weave. No new on off a long time I was watching. Ah, I think a special CNN had the other night about 1968. What struck me is how similar things that were going on, then are happening now. It's it's um Maybe you're watching this. You're saying my God it's 50 years later. You know, what have we done here? You know, Take it out, making your teachings of the most damning Not around long enough to see it right? And you know, we've been around for a long time. You know, you know things haven't really changed that much in on, And there's time to think about changing now realized how how do you know how much things that remain the same and so Boy. I mean, you know, it's not a time bomb. We can put it out. Yes and Dusty Baker Guest does the 15th all time in major league history with 1863 wins all time. That is, uh, that's a great number..

"I know what you're talking about. It's a different era. It really is. I mean, that guy's there swinging from the heels are taught to swing launch angle and all that kind of stuff, Eddie. You hear it every day. I get everything different. Somebody. Yeah, Somebody thinks it's more exciting. But, sir, I don't myself and it would. Bob is talking about what the increase in home runs at the strikeout numbers have probably Do you have a read on that, Bob? I don't know what the numbers are. The numbers have strike up. Numbers have got to be off, Charlie. They've gone up every year to Yeah, itself. They have. I wanna ask you one more question there. You familiar with wins above replacement. Yes. Um, I think we'll even my my big believer in it. No, but I don't believe it at all. You know? Are you familiar with the Alliance Sports Bureau, Right? Sure. Now, they said, which I agree with them. In total, they said. Supposing a pleasure hit 32 long runs. He drove in 110 runs, and you got 2 95 Now you take that same player. Let's say his war 6.86 point eight or mean intimate to meet. Is it? Tell me anything that tells me nothing. Yeah, I'll put a heavy premium on it. I mean, I I I I think I look at it The future times I do go for it. For historical preference reference. Sometimes I think it's a little bit of a picture. It's not the whole picture. Do you agree with that? Yeah. No, I I do. I I always I mean, if you want to go old school and think about that, Bob, Thanks for the call. Appreciate it. Ah, you know that. Azua lot of players I think feel and I've said over the years, you know, knockin runs and score runs and and you'll be fine. OK, that's you know, Look at your RV. I total look at the runs. That's Ah, You know when you cross the plate? Yeah, I mean, you got to score runs and somebody's got to drive men men. I'm decidedly old school just like you are. Let's let's go to Martin and Gilford Martini with us. Yes, sir. And speak of wins above replacement. When you guys left the 10 to 1 shot. They didn't win anything. I've been listening stations long has been around, and I like a lot of single people write themselves and schmoozy. Don't Mrs Mader misunderstand me for listening, but Is only two parents I really liked and you're one of them. So I have three said Good to hear Warden. Thank you Mark your mind when you got three things where they quickly one. My dad, You're talking about the Negro League today and yesterday he used to see Satchel Paige, which obviously they're Adobe also, but he used to talk about Satchel Paige Like 105 years old. When he came in here. You talked about the hesitation pitch, but he said what he had to win something like Greenberger. Ted Williams was up, he would rare up and he would still give him gas. It's a joy to watch. I wish I could've seen that when he joined the club in 48 in Cleveland now was amazing. And secondly, You know yet D Gordon on which I enjoyed and I kind of wish the died was held on to him. I mean, it would have thwarted the awakening of Mac Muncie. I get that, but we played first base, no code that was happening, But now the doctors haven't had a legitimate leader better since he left. And thirdly, this is a question. I guess it's more for Dave. And that's a question I probably would have asked five months ago. The Dodgers have been Lily white team for several years. In that amazing virtually no African American players and hardly Latin players, and this year they got price was not playing. So Mookie Betts. Assuming there is a season he will be The only African American on the team. And who wanted you to know I was going to say it's shocking that status that having possibly, of all teams just right and possibly a one year Dodger, too, for that matter could be. You don't know so well. What you're you're Still very well affect Mookie. Oh, he'll be fine Kids. A great player. Good kid. You know his job play baseball. Would liketo have the numbers like we have here in Seattle? Uh, yeah, but that's not the case, and he won, but he's not going to be the only guy. In a situation like that around Major league. I have not done a count and look forward to doing if we get this thing going to find out with the breakdown is going to be any of the customary players Association, but That's a good you know, You're the lone Ranger. I've been alone range of most of my life. He'll be fine. Perfectly honest with you exactly. Martin, I So the phone call. Appreciate Let's get Ah, Bruce and Flushing in here, bro. Guys, They enjoy your baseball broadcasting times. I get to hear the name of the network. Thank you. How are you? Oh, I had some of our problems. Been trying to fix it Voice. That's what somebody told me. You okay? Okay. These days, Bruce, I'll find out Okay, put a stent in and stuff. But what happened best. Thank you a couple things. As the host. Why did my cause any? You have it when you when you see your banker pullers, but they before you got to the fans. Usedto have RO call at 11 o'clock and beat me building from Brooklyn covered e accountant those bank because you know when crushed What is? What does it do as a host that you see the guys that you know you can trust and kibitz kids call? Well, they absolutely matter for any Bruce. I think, Bruce, weren't you The one who told me about the time when ah When Isaiah Thomas made that horrible past that was intercepted by Larry Bird led to the deejay lay up. I think you were the one that called me on that said You're not going to If you turn around, Look at your TV. There's a trust factor factor Those relationships built when we're back at WNBC and carried it over. I mean it. It's comforting to see those names and know that you can have the same conversation. That's a lesson. But when we see Bruce and Flushing up there, we know. Hey, now there's a guy we can count on right now, and we're talking about defend being Hand the last 30 40 years or whatever it is. I think we have to go back in history on give a tip of the cap to the point is the bill mazes? The art union. They paved a way and amazing to a certain point, but are crows Junior? That's when I think it became the X factor. It exploded. So to be on this show, and you can use and like most city was turned and listening to our growth period. Yeah, it was a pleasure going on with art. When I was at the Daily News, hey, had one of the great responses that evolved time. I called up and they want to talk about boxing. A Bruce, You've probably heard this. I can't remember the boxer's stay. But if somebody in the thirties that aren't had seen or read about when he was a kid, and the guy says, Well, you know, so it's always before my time in art stopped, they said, Hey, Lincoln was before your time I read a book reading a book when I was a kid. I read a book by Frank Graham about the New York Yankees and have it be like 89 years old, something anything. The book was kind of a couple of 1000 pages and because their book I was able to stumble Maison a trivia question. That's a truce. That's impressive. Let the third spring catcher from the late early forties, it was Buddy Rose up. Later on, But 10 years later, I got another question. So you know how deep it you're digging deep into the bag of obscurity. For God's sake, Come on. Holy mackerel, 1/3 string catcher for the Giants. What year was that? No, It's pretty hard to still maser you. No. Come on. No. Holy man. You knew everything goes good to hear from you, Ben. Hey. Ah, good health to you and.

"Yeah, the Giants chose not to track the workouts of their players, which a lot of teams did. It was just too cumbersome and effort. Given the payoff, they thought then, and that's a very abbreviated reason. But that's my rather than going into. The whole thing is it doesn't matter, But when they didn't track the workout, you then can't see the videos. Right. So that's how it goes. You know, so they don't even know if Daniel Jones, you know was a fumbling stuff has been doing drills that may or may not work. We'll find that out live and in person just like we will get him as far as I can go. Um, I just I just think that he will walk into that locker room and provide some credibility at the quarterback position if that was needed, and I do think that could be important in this league with all those great unknown skim those delicious Long as all of our chips put together. What are your top three stories in the league before going into camp? Oh, top three. Well, I would probably be selfish and stick to mostly the teams I cover. Yes. Do you know why not? I mean, I'm sure you know, Dave. I know there's some out by you that are very intriguing and really good teams out by you, but I don't. Unfortunately I love being on the East Coast. Unfortunately, that means I don't get to see you know, the West Coast teams. Um, I think that one of the biggest Stories will absolutely be Sam Darnold. And how much he can progress coming off a season. He obviously wants to forget, but surely learned some lessons in and I think that Donald has to some degree, the fate of Adam Gaze in his hands. He certainly some degree has the fate that the the the near future fate of the New York Jets in his hands and he's got to be good, and I think he is good. Ah, lot of people loved Sam Darnold on his talents, and this is the year in his third year. To show that I also have a lot of curiosity about the Giants in different respects. Particularly Can this defense make a stride toward being a really capable defense Last year? They were not. They were not. But can the defense do enough? Players like Jones and say, Kwan and the receiving corps in tight ends, including Heaven, Ingram Staying healthy. Can they get enough from the offensive line where this can be an offense with some explosion? Explosive? Excuse me, But can the defense at least hold up part of the end of the bargain, and I don't know that And then you don't listen. Buffalo is almost as known equality is you could have right now. It is curious to me. They're no longer an underdog, and that is an absolute Transition that they're gonna have to make emotionally and mentally. There's no doubt about that. Physically, that team got a lot going for it. They have incredible amount of talent on that roster, especially defensively, but And they make that transition and as a force, even though you asked me for three. I'm really curious. What the Brownsville in sort of a can We make up and be ah, the team that we were supposed to be a year ago under, obviously a new regime, including a new head coach. It's interesting. Yeah, you know, it's a fascinating story to me. You mentioned Buffalo Kim is how much the quarterback will will will step forward this year. I think there's a lot of talent there. I just don't know whether he's ready to take that step. But if he does, they could be very, very dangerous. He's lucky you're Josh Allen is absolutely the key. Hey, he is an impressive in person as any player in this league. To me and I like a lot of players in this league. I think a lot of the players are very impressive his people and his players. I think Josh Allen in terms of accepting responsibility, Josh Alan and understanding the role he has to play. I think he's right up there with the top in this league. The question is, Can he improve on accuracy a little bit, And can he once and for all, get rid of playing hero ball that here on? He told me. He knew that he knew he didn't have to be a hero last year. Well this year when you add Stefan digs, and when you have a returning offensive line, all five returning He surely doesn't have to be a hero. But he has to play like he understands that and he knows that she knows that I want to ask you one thing about my my favorite team. Since way way we're back when Words to Philadelphia. What do we got? What are we looking at here? Well, maybe you know, a corps of receivers that isn't all you know, Hurt and unavailable for Carson. Maybe days and guys that didn't come off Instagram. Right, Kim, Right Throwing, you know about the catch Greg Ward made to beat the Redskins in that important game. What was that Week 15 last year. He's going to Greg Ward, the former quarterback quarterback you used and so you know if they can just get some health At their wide receiver corps. You've got to think their leaps and bounds about you. No better than they haven't know they've had the injury to the offensive lineman obviously wasn't advantageous during his training this offseason. You know, I did. I did ask sake, Juan the other day because I asked a quote about sake one which sometimes doesn't go well, well, and it didn't in that case. I did ask him about his training with mild Sanders. They were Penn State teammates. I know sake one better than miles. But of course, as a Penn State, I root for both of them. And he told me that miles this year is going to be way more explosive..

"In East Amid Coleman in New York. Dave Simms out in Seattle, Larry Doby Jr was AA lot of fun to talk to you last hour. Good guy, the sun off the great Larry Doby, the Hall of Famer and and, of course, John Miko, the John Mayko joining us Last hour as well. 877337 66 66 is the phone number. Dave. I could talk to this our next guest forever. Okay about anything on DH. That's why it's always a pleasure to bring her in the lovely Kim Jones is going to join us right now and say hello to all her friends on the fan. She is a fixture on the fan most times, and she's going to join us were lucky enough to have her as a guess right now. Hi, Kim. Hello, Eddie and Dave. Wow. What a treat on this July 4th weekend. How are you guys doing? Well, kim, and let me just say two things. We are there. That's all you need to say. Days. We are good state. Penn State alum. I enjoy your work. I see when when I'm not baseball Motive tune into you guys on NFL Network. Thank you. You gotta you do great work. Import. You got it. You guys have a lot of fun. You got a lot of good people there on some of my knowledge. Baldy Maverick. Molly went to Duke with that Larry Doby Junior was there. Kim. You know, Eddie and I were talking about baseball and baseballs. You know that guys are checking out right now, in terms of Hey, I'm gonna pass on this season. What's your thoughts on the viability of getting this season started in the NFL and complaining. Well, you know, I'm I'm generally always helpful. I think that's the only way through this life of ours, you know, and not false hope and not crazy hope, but but I am hopeful. I'm optimistic. I think the NFL benefited. Unlike the other sports in terms of the calendar, there's no denying that the NFL also showed some guts in continuing with free agency and the draft when there were some You know, to me odd calls that those things which can happen all you know, remotely and the attacks and phone calls and computers and that kind of stuff. There were all kinds of calls to not have those things the NFL went forward. I think it was their most successful draft ever the way the real nature of it all. So now you know the NFL's going to hope that some of that good fortune continues with this virus and with e. The idea that they can get on the field at the end of this month and then find a way through preseason then and then, obviously, hopefully the regular season. I, You know, I wish I had a crystal ball guys, I don't but but I am hopeful and optimistic. You know, it doesn't give you pause at all Kim list and I think you know, we know football is probably the most contact sport. We're going to the MBA. Obvious little of closer contact in baseball. Baseball is having its problems. The MBA too. Does it give you pause when you see that on kind of a daily basis, some of the things that air Piling up in the other sports. It does. You know, I have to believe that they are working on Something for the face area. I don't know that I'm not reporting that. But I have to believe that they're looking at options to at least take the you know, Offensive lineman, defensive lineman. Well, you know, a foot apart, breathing all over each other, and and other things to take that out of it. I don't know that. I have to believe you know, brighter minds than I or at work on this show, And you know, I would think that they are You know, looking for a way to minimize some of that up close and personal contact that you know the breathing on each other that, you know so alive. All that stuff. I mean, we never really think about it. But now we have Teo and I have to believe they're thinking of that. Stop. Look. Yeah. I came to my mind the other day when I was when I was talking to, you know, distant from to some baseball players, and they're going through saliva tests, basically for Cove it and I'm thinking Well, you know, there was saliva galore here in football football. On almost every play and you get so that obviously brings a little bit of concern. But yeah, that's interesting that there would be working. I don't know that Eddie if it's even occurring in my conversations with people like this conversations, you know, they've already figured out that they have to address it. Somehow I have to believe And they have a lot of good people at all of the people who's doing his right down. Still doing the helmets. I mean, they're they're different helmets that have been improved over the years changed, but yeah, but I gotta believe they have somebody brown engineers and think of the business. That would be you know, if they could come up with something? Something that smart business I guarantee you is certainly in the work, right? You are guaranteed. They tell me this would you? Thoughts on Limiting or it'll eliminating the preseason games. Yeah, interesting. Listen, players don't love preseason games. We can all go back over the history of this league and talk about Preseason injuries that have affected teams, then the whole way through. They affect careers, you know, and it's one thing If you get injured in week four of the regular season, it's another if you're getting injured. You know, in week three of the preseason, for heaven's sake, So I understand that players don't love them. Players don't want to play in them all the time. Some players don't play in them, which is smart, in many cases, in my opinion. Um, I don't know if there's an opportunity to find sort of a a balance here or is the NFL will be the player's union on this and say. Yeah, it's more important that guys get their bodies in tune. They can do some hitting and practice which we actually don't see much of anymore guy. Maybe not not back in the day hitting in practice because, you know, I used to cover two a days in Albany longer, But you know, maybe if there's no preseason work, and we already know that you can't Scrimmage against other teams during the week. You can't have practice against other teams. They've eliminated that for this year as well. Maybe the teams do a little more of that help get their brother and their teammates into shape for the regular season. Maybe that's what we see. How is the fact that they've limited those kind kinds of engagements with other teams, practices, scrimmages and everything? How do you think that will affect play? Say they do get to start the season at the assigned date? Yeah, I mean, listen, it could be raggedy early on, but I think we I think we often think that I've I've also covered teams that have obviously had coaching changes, which means scheme changes and everything else. And sometimes early on, Those teams are finding their way versus the more stable team that you might have a few rough patches. But what is more in tune early, so I think that's the natural Sort of just a natural theme of football, especially when you change up. The Giants have obviously changed coaches again, so they were always going to have a bigger learning curve. This year. You could argue it's even bigger now, and I would not argue against that. It is a big one. It's a big learning curve for a first time head coach. And for players that are pretty young, the giant have a pretty young roster. So that was always going to be the case and obviously the virus and the after effects. The current effects of all of this have have magnified that there's no doubt about that. Could could we see some raggedy football early? Yes. I think we'll most of us be grateful just to see football early. I think that answer is also yes. "It's It's interesting to me to tell you the kind of person he is that you know he was a hell of a football player and maybe a better football player than he was baseball player For all we know, I don't know that, but That's what he wants to talk about. Like he doesn't want to talk about what he's known for. He's a Hall of Fame baseball player. Wanna brag on himself? He wants to talk about another sport that it was this very good. It'll be a couple three times on occasions. I said, You know, I'm a little bit more familiar with Mr Robinson story, but I'm catching up with with what you went through, and I would ask him about specific guys. They would just sort of go silent. I said, Okay, that speaks by local check his move on to the next guy. Yeah. Okay. How about this guy? Silence. Sometimes. Sometimes silence speaks volumes. That's one of the great pictures. They always talk about the picture. For the moment that did or didn't happen. It's Cincinnati When Pee Wee Reese put his arms armor and Jackie Robinson closed. There was a similar thing picture. Believe it if it still exists of Lou Boudreau. I want a similar type of thing or there was some kind of interaction had never been heard of. Ah, I think what I think it hit a home run, and people like parts of country flip that when they were shaking hands at home plate. Well, that's you know, that's cool. That's Ah. But who did Larry Jr DeLarge into play with white socks? That way he played it, Dude, I believe before your started, Duke And played in the Lake, Wisconsin. And below. Okay, I wonder who that is, but it was like it was. That's what I think his dad ended up with the White Sox on that was Indian. You played most of scoring, that would clearly and I'm not joking here up Number 1959 He played 20 game 21 games with a white sidewalk and then then he managed for what a couple cups of coffee against the world. So, Yeah, that was funny. That's a good piece of history right there. Larry Doby Junior's contribution to our society into baseball. A pretty significant, absolutely All right. We're coming up to. Ah, four o'clock on the fan Kim Jones going to join us next hour. Jim Duquette will join us as well. In the five o'clock hour. "Dave says that Coleman back together here on the fan for this weekend. We were together yesterday and Take upto six o'clock today. Right now I want to bring in a good friend Larry Doby Junior today is the anniversary of his dad, breaking a color line 1947 with the Cleveland Indians. June. What's up, buddy? How you doing, man? I am doing pretty good trying to Ah, you know, get through quarantine like everybody else, but rather on when you know, I got the know your dad a little bit What a great guy and from a baseball In addition to bid a great person, a great dad and all that. Looking as when we talk sports in that Rome man looking in his records. Hey, put up some great numbers. Breaking in in the American League. But did he ever did you have conversations about you know some of the day's particularly those early days? Um, you know, breaking in after Mr Robinson a few weeks after him. And your dad went through the same stuff, And it's probably not his notice notice to as much as it is with Jackie Robinson. Yeah, well, he was in Cleveland, which is a little Midwestern city as opposed to the media capital of the world. Yes, sir. So, you know, I think all the Um, you know, concentration was on, you know, Mr Robson and rightly so, being the first, but obviously, you know, America didn't change from April 15th 1947 July could know he ran through the same exact thing Jackie and actually integrated. I think some cities that National League wasn't in right, Washington. I believe so. Yeah, it was You know, it was quite a time to be alive. Quite a timeto try and change things very proud that he was able to. Ah Accomplish it and open the doors for others to come after and like. And like Mr Robinson, Mrs Dobie, your mom was one of the all time like Rachel Robinson, one of the Alzheimer's wanted a great I mean, Iraq. That was cute, right? Yeah. Without a doubt, you know, it's he often said that You know, he couldn't have done it without, you know, God and my mom and Mr Vet, So I think those were his strongest supporters and really leaned on and you know, we could always lean on no matter what, you know things he had to face. Larry. I remember reading an article about your dad Ah, while ago and I think I remember correctly. It was something like when. When you asked him, You know, to talk about some of his experience, he would say That was yesterday. I deal with today. He seemed to be. He seemed to be reticent in talking about What he had gone through. Is that true? Yes, It was exactly true. And I was the little kid who wanted to hear the story of his dad's feet. Just like any other son would want to hear that. Your journey. He did not, You know, want to talk about, um He I think. I don't. I don't know if it was, you know, it was too painful. I don't think it was. I just think that you know he was concerned with raising a family and put food on the table and that didn't really serve him. In that moment, he was always worried about now and going forward. I wonder whether he always seemed to be a very humble person and not one. Not one to really, you know, blow his own horn toot his own horn. But I wondered whether some of the things that had happened to him had, you know had had that kind of effect on him and made him reticent to talk about. Well, that is very true. He was a humble guy who didn't you know? Really toot his own horn. But I mean, I did hear names in my house is a little kid growing up like so Gordon on Jim Hagen and, uh, Bob Lemon, you know, names like that. So those were the good guys And the name that I didn't hear were maybe not so good. I didn't know about it. I didn't know about those guys. And their names and things that they had done. And, you know, I remember one time there was a game on TV and Something happened and he just kind of chuckled to himself like, Oh, what's so funny? He's like, Well, what early win was on the mound? I didn't have to worry about anything is hidden because his stapler clock that's great. That's great. That's great, Early, great, great pitcher Larry Doby Junior with this right now, Larry, you know it's interesting. His reluctance Reticence to talk about That stuff is pretty typical of that generation because you hear about guys. You know, you talk to your dad and granddad. Whoever who fought in World War two they don't talk about. I know I pulled out of my father right before he passed that he was part of Patton's ripple. Expresses what? You never told me that. Yeah, I mean, crudity days, things that they that you're right that generation Helden. You know, and didn't talk about. It was like their job, their duty and they did it. And that was it. And yeah, yeah. I mean, there's so many things that you know, I wish I could have asked him, you know, in sin, restless book now, but that's just the way it was. You know, but it made it kind of cool when he did say something, because you knew that he meant it. And it meant something to him and one of the stories I tell us that he said to me one day again out of the blue. You said he never got food in Cleveland. And I looked at him like you know, he was crazy. I was like, What are you talking about? You know, I never got booed there and I thought to myself Wow. You know what a city for him to break into and how they felt about him. You know whether he struck out or whether he had a home run? He was theirs. And they were rooting for him. And he never forgot that. So you know things like that. You know, it was kind of cool when he did say something, but it wasn't often. But when he did, you know, because I know it, you know meant something. Well, I tell you what, one of the things I'm going to miss. This baseball season this year. Is going to Cleveland and gone by and looking at the statue they have of your dead. Yeah, that was you know, they finally put it up was But what? 34 years ago. I'm so glad we did it, and I don't know what his name his numbers retired. His number 14 is retired there with all the other greats there. And I remember seeing the video of you, I guess the presentation. How did the telephone a little bit of what That was like when you went there, And there's a statue of your old man. I mean it. I'll tell you it was. It was kind of surreal. You know, something that you never dreamed of happening, and it was actually Happening. Kind of, like when he got into the whole same same thing. Never thought it would happen. And it did. And you know, we were extremely humble and extremely proud..

He was in a basketball player, but he was a body. Good kid. Great kid he played was on the baseball team that went to the Ivy League playoffs, and he's had a very successful life. He's back in the Bay Area. Good guy became a Spirit agent. Yeah, And I think he's back east now. Oh, yeah, but and Ricky three became something on World Street. I like me a lot, but I have to call TP and tell him that I reminded that that's a heck of a great state from Colombia for him than you are. Hi, Variegated Korea. He was a good guy's head. I had time. I didn't get any. Appreciate this with PJ on Westwood one. Yep. And we did the tournament. It was in a really good guy, Good coach and we had what? We had eight teams and we knew six of the coaches really well. Penders was one of them. Fran McCaffery was another Gabrielle like crazy. The Iowa coach and we had a blast with TP and and he had a loaded Houston team, and I can't remember who they played. But they lost the heartbreaker late Maryland was there because Gary was still Gary Williams. Yes. Ah, and then PJ and I have blast calling a game and hanging out that I loved talking with those guys out there talking with college coaches that we do that in the mornings all the time, and it was from the Massachusetts area before he came to Colombia. "You Ah, I mean, you can crush the ball. You know my conversations with him. All right. I know you have the perception of a pretty quiet guy and It's so cool under those tough moments that we saw that against Herschel last year, when they men of that come back, they come back and beat the dieters, an event on the way to the World Series. I have been looking up his numbers and researching him as much as I can not seen as many games that would normally want to be able to see it back east like that, But I know my brother's until you're saying they're They're thankful that he's that. So he just what I watch him in spring training. Like what? His whole approach weather in the field. Or swinging the bat. And how is that bats were so good. I mean, if you're a pitcher, you're doing a pretty good, fast ball down on the outside corner, and he slapped me in the right field for an R B. I single. Then you say, OK, I better make him aware of the inside pitch. And he's ready to turn on it as well. But I think the thing that makes him is good or better than anybody is that there's no stress level, whether its the first pitch of the about or if he's behind 0212 He still looks exactly the same. He's completely calm the others He has an idea what he wants to do what the pitcher's gonna try to do against them. It may not work out all the time, but he's always going tol make that adjustment that next. Too bad but I just love everything. He does it, and it's funny when you watch You know the Simmons and the pools in the trout in the Uptons and the good ones and those guys all this? Watch him. And because you could learn so much from a guy in the world champ, I pulls the world champ. They watch him all the time saying same thing with Ren known that when you see a guy what he's doing in there, no stressful moments. How you you could slow the game down and not let the game speed up on you. That's when you're successful. His number's a ridiculous last year 3 19 led the league in R B I second year. In a row. He led the league in doubles, He slugged 5 98 Green back to back years of 44 doubles. I mean, Wow, um, you mentioned to two quick ones. Pool halls. What's he got left? And Otani? Uh, he's healthy and that scares and scares the daylights out of me as well. Yeah, we'll report you know, not that anybody under any circumstances want have AH, 60 game season because baseball is 162 of the old saying it's a marathon, not a Sprint will Now It's become a sprint in baseball. And you know Albert last year when he played first base, and it was like 98 games. His batting average was way better when he's playing the field, So I think if you allow him to play At first base the entire season. You know, there may be only a few days off door in the year. What? Six games 60 66 You know of the schedule, so He was every bit as good as anybody on the team for combating hours with runners in scoring position that was like 2 92 last year. I expected to have a pretty good numbers. He's not that far away from Testing Willie Mays on the all time home run list. Passing a ride on the all time R B I list. I love history, and you guys know this. I mean, I just love talking about that CNN passing and would I get a chance to talk to Albert about that? So funny goes I love it. I love those names mentioned. I reflect more once I'm not playing And but he knows those names very well and then for show Otani. He is so strong right now and you know he throwing the ball so free and easy. Like everyone else was shut down, But he was thrown basically the whole time as far as keeping his own because he was rehabbing his elbow from the Tommy John surgery on his knee and everything else that he looks incredible. He is socially dead lifting. What? £495. Excuse me? Yeah. Bigot. If I did that, I would move forget. Wow. Stop for just like it is. The split is nasty Is it was a couple of years. Yeah, and it just as bad Olson, one time from The Oakland A's. He was like, I remember we were doing a gave it because Obasi is smile as he's beginning his swinging and he knows it his mind. I have no chance of making the figures. You know, my mother go through my swing and just the case somehow the baseball with my bad but it is Will you look at his numbers when he pitched a couple years ago? This thing that jumps out to me had 10 starts in 18 will get 10 starts here in 2020 because they're going with a six man rotation. He? It's good trout is I would say if it's showing Otani wins three or four games that had 15 or 18 homeruns. How does he not win the MVP? Because I don't think there's anybody more valuable than a guy who startled abound Win games. And also hit those home runs doing the things he's done offensively in a 60 game schedule, so I know the Angels have three guys in the top 10 for Vegas Odds, EVP. The American leg. It's Ren Don't Trout in Otani, so we'll see how it very well could stay healthy. That's the big thing. Staying healthy. This short stretch like this. It's going to be a little bit different than the normal season. Obviously, yeah, that's AH, That's Gary. Here's one for you, Mark. Dave and I were talking about this before he watches it when Diaz rack up almost 60 saves, and then Diaz comes to New York and Just has a nightmarish season. I watched this guy as a met and he was either nibbling or falling behind everybody and eventually would come in and get crushed. And then I come home from games and watch the West Coast games and I watch Han sell Ro blaze mowing down, people will have to run. I'm going one of my watching my once in the same guy here. That's that was an amazing story Last year. Yeah, you came in, you know, with the undertaker song and everything goes kind of it was pretty But he had always had a good fastball. Yeah, and I think he gets so into it. Strike out that he tried to throw the ball harder. And then then it's flatter you would overthrown even has changed. His changeup is unequal. Either Get back in the account, he finally figured out how to get people out. Instead of trying to Strike everybody out every time and even go back to Theo. I felt his fastball was so good that he but he never went to it. He went to with slider all the time. But it went more sliders. You throw your morning believe my arm is completely crooked forever. For though a lot of flies that the more sliders you throw them or you're gonna hang one and they're the ones you feel The highlights ago 450 feet. Yes. So he's got to trust this task balm or I think that's what Honza roadless did. He trusted his fastball Mohr and located it better and he was fun to be around. I I always joked around him. He was between him and it's Ty, buttery and And Kita Middleton. They have three pretty good closers, which you're going to need because of everyday playing. Those closures may not be able to win more than two or three days in a row before you need someone else to close out the game. Paris your starters..

"And the change of going to Hey, last question from me, Carp. Ah, Fifth starter. I know you mentioned Zim opting up Joe Ross did as well. Wellington Castillo. I think, Teo Yeah, with your club, but But Ross is out of there now. So, ah, today and both those guys are what's what's your thoughts on fifth starter for for the team. Well, they're both high draft picks Eric Betty's right hander out of Vegas, Austin. Both is a hard throwing right hander. Eric has more big league experience, and last year he did work out of the bullpen. Some Hey, hasn't shown the ability yet. To have great command and put away big league hitters. We hope that's coming because you know he he's one of our top prospects. And so is Austen Vote Moneyball. Sanchez still still appears to be the number four guy and, of course, you know he gave us some playoff heroics, but he almost threw a no hitter against the Cardinals in ST Louis. In the L. C. S. So you take the big three of shares their Strasbourg and Corbin and Strasbourg. Maybe he's the number one guy right now. I don't know. I think I think you give match the ball on opening day. You know until until he decides you doesn't want to pitch anymore. But you know, those top three guys were fantastic. The top four are really good. And then we'll see because Davey Martinez says he definitely wants a five man rotation. As you guys know, having looked at the schedule, there aren't many days off. 60 game things. I think I read something the other day, 60 games and 63 days. That's what I saw. So yeah, if some teams better have a number six starter That's what we're doing Open opener or somebody like that out of their bullpen, so it's going to be fed he or vote. Eric said he probably gets the edge right now because he has more big league experience. But Austin vote throws harder. He's more of a strikeout guy, but again young pitchers trying to find command at the big League level. Bob Carpenter. I guess Bobby A Thank you. Ah, lot. I thank you for stepping aside for Steven Matz. We appreciate that. I hope I see you soon. I can never say for sure these That's what the situation we're in, but hopefully I'll see you guys in the booth very shortly. Ready? Thanks for your kind words with the Nazi on the Mets. It's become a great rivalry rivalry. And Dave. Maybe next year. They reconfigured the schedule and we will indeed come out west. That'd be great. We haven't been to Seattle now in six years, so I want to get out there to see you and to your fantastic ballpark again. Yes, indeed. And I got your scorebook every day to all right. There you go, boy. You know, I I would give vetted this kind of feat ever Order one thie Great score, but carp. Thanks, man. Appreciate Thanks, car, guys. The real pleasure. Thanks for having me on are very welcome. You got it live carbon door voice of the Washington nationals, along with Effie Santana Djalo. We're the good guys in the game. And like I said, how many guys step aside and And let's slide in pro slide in a pitcher and on keep going. That's the scorebook. We referred Tio. He has a side business has Bob Carpenter scorebook that he designed And it's It's I've used that Ah, 14th year with the 14th year with the Mariners. I think I've used it now for 12 consecutive years. That's really good to take a break. And when we come back, we're going to talk to mark boobies out to get the latest on the Angels Get.

And those pretty staggers been long days to these trainers in the coaching, but But so I haven't spoken to everybody but As far as I have heard, And you know, I didn't know David David Price is playing this year. Yeah, that just that just moved in the last few minutes. Wow. I did not hear that. Yeah, He just he opted out from the Dodgers Dodgers just announced that a short while ago. You know, Stephen, we're talking about Steven Matz of the match. You know, one of the things I I guess a misconception or at least it seems that way at this point that when pictures came back, you know how ready they'd be and whether they could ramp up in time. It seems like you know a lot of the guys air. I know Clayton Kershaw's that he's going to go on throw five innings on Monday, Sures err seems to be okay. But you seem to be on track that you might be able to go fairly deep your first time. At least that's the sense that you get kind of around baseball. Do you feel that that'll be the case? Yeah. You know, the biggest thing that holds me back right now is if you know. Through who are any on a week from Wednesday? Okay? This past Wednesday, so Now I'm kind of far out from Actually facing hitters, So it's like all this travel and then getting tested in quarantine and that kind of coming back into schedule. It's kind of like throwing me off a little bit, really, if I would have Jump, you know? Just blowing right up here and got started. I would have been registered five. But I mean I could I could still probably throw five. But it's kind of like it's going to be probably too. Two weeks. Insides aren't in the game at this point now. Wow. So that's the only thing that holds me back travel in the quarantine all that. Do you think they'll think they'll be a little careful, you know, kind of air on the side of caution with with all you guys right now, at least in the first week or something. Yeah, I think so. I think there's no point in the first time unless you feel like you personally need to like, maybe Kershaw Chirchir like to do that, But I don't think it's necessarily Super important going Throw five. You know, I think he isn't into it a little bit. Make sure your good and then kind of random back up from there. But, you know, I could technically be good to go for Last year. Steven Match with us from the Mets, Young left hander You went 11 and 10 last year. What kind of things you looking Tio build upon improve for this season. Just everything that the main thing I I would love to improve on just going deeper into games. You know, that was kind of my mind. That is You're going deep into the game. There's normally stuff going, right. So whatever that looks like from there, I just want to go deeper in the game. I don't want to be pitching the 78 penny.

"So I think I was contract as faras like that I would keep up. What? I was just getting exactly like like where you left off. You. You You felt like you did. You were in pretty good shape When you When you came yesterday. Yeah, definitely. We have a good group of guys in Franklin and National area that we Way had a bunch of guys that would be in a field And, you know, once a week, throw a lot of TV. Thankfully, the virus didn't hit too bad when I was down there, So you know, after our little shelter in place, we kind of got back out and after it, you know, I was throwing morning clutch hitters by the end of it, so it was really good. The virus didn't just a tornado. Remember that when that happened back in? What was that? That was you weren't there. I think it's time. I know. You're what I think your wife, asshole, but it missed. I missed you by a little, I think, right? Yeah. And then we have these things called a straight line. Wind came through it took took down trees. I lost power for, like, five days of No, that is a great How was it? Ah, getting, you know, getting back and getting on to citifield, even with social distancing, and that was it a little stranger or didn't feel good, Steve. Ah little boat. Definitely strange. I mean, it was expecting going in, you know. Talking to Brody and some of the other guys. You know Louis and Hafner They do that It's going to be an advantage. If we take this very seriously, you know, and we keep guys forget the virus. It could potentially be an advantage. If I do that They were going to be very strict with Social distance thing and wearing lab keeping guys apart everything, and so far, they've done a great job, you know, and taking very seriously, But on the other hand, it was great being out on the field and just kind of Throwing the ball around to be in the stadium just felt felt great to be out there. Stephen, How do you guys have you? You look at your starting rotation that stack that up against Thea other teams in their division I know from, you know, I'm in the American League West and I look at that your division. I think it's pretty stacked up. You know how How do you guys You know? How do you compare yourself to the other rotations in your division? Yeah, I think I mean, I'll take up against anybody. I mean, I think you know it's tough to lose, Noah, but, um, you know, we have.

"Sports Radio 66 Back together again and back on the fan and the five o'clock hour at Goldman, Dave Simms here. I'm in New York. He's in Seattle. Um, Carp is down in Washington. I think anyway, and we're gonna head down there right now. And welcome in the voice of the Washington nationals on their TV side. Bob Carpenter, our friend Bobby, How are you doing? Well, Eddie, great to hear your voice. I'm actually not in D C yet. Okay. Live in Tulsa, Oklahoma have for many decades, but four of them heard so. But so I guess we have all parts of the country Representative click. So, David, the great Northwest here on the Eastern Seaboard. And I'm somewhere in a flyover state in between you all good to hear your voice. Carp didn't hear. Hey! Ah! What would you do with your world Championship ring? Well right now it's it's over at my house. And you know, I have I have. I built a moat around the house. I got a couple of attack dogs. So if anybody has any ideas, forget it. You know, I think it was about Maybe a week and 1/2 ago, when we got our rings, they are the size. Of the Is there a least bigas any Super Bowl ring I've ever seen. And you guys know me. I'm not exactly an offensive lineman. I could almost get two of my fingers and I hear it. So when I put it on those above my knuckle It is very large, and it's actually my second ring I had won with the Cardinals back Ino four. That's already got swept by the Red Sox. But, you know, we did get a ring that had Some nice diamonds and a red ruby cardinal on it. That says nationally champions, but it's It's the ultimate when you get a ring that says world champions on its nice and I feel very grateful, unfortunate. That the learner family included the broadcasters in on that and I don't know it may end up in the safe deposit box is in about two weeks. I'll be heading back up to D. C. Wow. Well, you and everything, but it's not anything you walk around town. No, no way. Yeah, that's that's probably a good idea. You on FB deserve it anyway. And I, you know and and listen, it has to be special. Just because of what that team went through. Ah, last season. You know when you guys are We're sitting at what was at 1931 1 on. Yeah, well, you know, it's interesting that you bring that up because I was I remember doing the math last year. Obviously, that's 50 games into the season, right? Quite 1/3 of the way but only four game short of that. And to get the 90 wins out of the 112 remaining games. The Nationals had to win 71. Wow. Of those 112 to get the nineties. Well, they won 74 of those games to get to 93. And probably had as much. Momenta Mohr. You know, maybe more than anybody in baseball, the addicts. Just a great run. And, of course, the you know, the 1931 that was on the heels, and I know you remember this weekend at Citi Field. It's when the Mets swept the nationals. We had a bullpen melt down almost every night. I think we led in all of the games. And you're jittery. Yes. And then met. You pulled out a little bit of magic. I said, Hey, man, I got to give those Mets fans credits. The atmosphere in your ballpark. That weekend was anything I've seen regular season play off you name it. In my 36 years doing Major League baseball. The Mets fans were unbelievable than that somehow gathered themselves from a devastating weekend. They got things turned around. They got trade Turner back healthy. They got Anthony. Run. Don't back healthy. The bullpen sort of figured out. Poor Sean do little. The guy couldn't comb his hair by September left arm. You know, he he was the only guy getting anybody out and he had one or two of those meltdowns in New York. It was great. It was a great case study in staying together, not panicking. As Davey Martinez said. Our manager go want to know every day they were able to do that, and it's a testament to team sports. You can get off to a start like that and still win a championship. Now you get off to a start like that, in 2.5 weeks. Your dead weight. It's not gonna happen. It's the beauty of baseball Long season, It's the marathon and the nationals were able to be one of the greatest comeback stories. People were comparing them to the miracle Braves. 19 for attack. I think it was either night there was either 1914 or 1916. Yeah, came back at one dependent, and it was that historic what the nationals did last year. I gotta ask you a personal question. Anthony Rendon's killed us last time were in D. C. And, as, uh, This pandemic is wrecked a true trip to D. C because we're going to be planned. You guys at your place? But who's ran down to free agency Now I'm going to see him while next year let's say 19 times along with Trump. Good luck getting them. I'll tell your pictures that tell me about it. I mean trout's gonna be batting second with Ren. Don't behind them on Connie, behind. Both talked to Gabi about that in about 1/2 hour, but Who? What's the story of third who's taken over third base for Ren? Don't who are really like Well right now it appears And maybe the short season helps this kid. His name is Carter Key Boom number one draft pick. About three years ago, he had an older brother Spencer, who is the catcher in the organization. Great family. Great parents have gotten to know them over the years. He's a really good kid. He physically he looks like Cal Ripken man. Well, he's a He's a big told Lynnfield he can play shortstop. In fact, he played some there last year. When trade Turner was hurt when you got hit by the pitch and broke his finger. Hey, got off to kind of a good start. But, you know, you know how that goes, guys. It was a figure. Okay, He can hit the fastball that you're not going to see any more of those. At the big League level, So he was up for about two weeks. And, you know, hit a buck something but went back to AA trip away out there in Fresno and had a pretty good season. He's a big, strong kid. He's got power. He's a line drive fitter. He's a plus defender with good hands and a good arm. But right now we have trade Turner at shortstop..

"Okay, that I guess we'll be in the papers for tomorrow. But you were talking about minor league ball because he hit it struck a chord with me back. You know, it's one thing that that I guess I worry about with the game of baseball. No minor league season. This year you wrote about the minor leagues and obviously the condensing of the minor leagues to come. You know, I don't worry about the Louisville's and the Oklahoma City is in the round rocks and places like that, But I do. Worry about, you know, say the Hudson Valley renegades or ah, the smaller towns in the Midwest because that's that's where you get you know the people who are going to fall in love with this game and future generations. And and now you know, those those places are gone and all in a lot of cases and That concerns me, probably more about the game down the line. Yeah, I couldn't agree with that. But that's more. I mean, you're like I mean, you know you have We have to be lucky, and I was lucky. I was born in New York. So obviously my first contact with baseball is the best of the Yankees. Most people weren't most people's contact with baseball is hundreds of miles away from usually team and so the first time we're actually able to see professional baseball players may be, you know. A classic short guy who's got those shadow big. It's a big league, but you know you couldn't have to actually make a living playing baseball for summer, and there are millions of people who came to baseball that way. And you're right. That's not going to be on option for a lot of these cities anymore. This is so discouraging, but that seems to be the way baseball is headed. Um, You know what I wrote about? The column was here and I got to cover north to two small short scene in Class 18 94. The Valley renegades up in Fishkill on the futures of cardinals over Augusta Do Juries just amazing. Every day you get your pack and go You know the impact of these players having small communities, but you multiply that by all the other teams that were around in the country. That you have allowed people to truly embraced baseball for the first time, and that's going to take it away. I mean, it's just that that could be irreplaceable part of baseball Solan I'm just not sure how you reported that. I don't think you do. I don't fake it. I know that you could make it up, but I think that's gonna be real problem. I really do. Yeah, that's gonna be difficult and Having read a lot about those talents and oh, man, so many jobs. Not only with the ball club Yeah, I mean the players. But, you know, people work on the ball club and they all Ansel everything. So no question about a back, always good talking to you even better reading you. Hopefully we get through this season and maybe a couple of other sports seasons as well and hopefully we keep chugging along. Got a lot to get through, but hopefully it all works out for the best, but it's just so looking forward that all settling, it's really been a lot of fun talking with you guys.
