"Preview this exciting thursday game even without devante adams allen lazard. I think the packers are going to give him a game. And i really can't wait so we will do the starts in the sits for arizona. Angry bay we'll talk by low sell high as usual on these wednesday shows. Take a little bit of a look at schedules. I'm going to ask you. Guys can mike dalton schultz and markey's brown in particular. Can they keep it going if their teams get healthy. And maybe the target share decreases a little bit but also hear from you guys and find out your favorite by lows and sell highs and halloween. Candy's heath candy corn a no. No no it. Wasn't there like a candy corn beer or something like that did you ever see. I'm sure i'm certain there was a candy. Corn basically any candy. That's ever been made. There has now been a beer made in the flavor of that candy. And how do we feel about pumpkin beer. Mostly i'm anti pumpkin beer. But there is one. I believe it's southern. Tier makes a pump king. And it's like an imperial pumpkin and it's it's pretty good but for the most part. I'm not a pumpkin beer. Kind guy do like pumpkin pie. Maria could rather have pumpkin beer. What's up dave. What's up man. All this pumpkin pie talk is making me hungry. I'm hungry the second. I wake up so today. We're going to do buy low sell high. But we're gonna have put a little twist on it. Dave gave me inspiration. We're going to do kind of. Let's make a deal Twist on bilo sell. Hi guys tell me who you wanna buy low and sell high on. I've got eight mystery boxes. You get to choose either. Keep the player that you wanna buy. Or what's in the box so that should be fun. We'll see how it goes and say it sounds complicated. Yeah very complicated. Or why don't we start off with something. That's not complicated. Who's your favorite bilo favor. Bilo right now dave richard. Can i name to. You can use on F f five yesterday. It's the chiefs quarterback and the chiefs reliever receiver reliever Yes chad hennion byron pringle. Let's go get him Mahomes three straight games under twenty seven fantasy points for him. That's lower than expectations. Obviously last week was really bad. Now's the time to pounce especially the guy that has mahomes is somehow three and four two and five. They're trying to make a move one way they might be able to make a move is by taking in a lesser quarterback and another star on their team. You can provide that lesser quarterback in another starter. And get yourself patrick mahomes. I am positive that the chiefs will turn this thing around the giants. This week should happen as soon as this monday night. Tyreek hill is connected to patrick mahomes. We know that he's had some pretty rough games lately. I think he turns it around as well. These are two great players that teams with playoff aspirations and five plus wins should go and try and acquire a s. Ap yeah you know. We actually got an apple. Podcast question we're going to get to those later from keenan and san diego. Where's he from. Dave san diego. Yeah yeah he is courtesy. If i'm paying attention now just not as funny bit. He says on sunday night. You thank you. You said that you would trade. Kyle murray from a homes hands down. Can you dive into this more. Do we still believe that or was that reaction you believe that. Did i said that though. I did i think you guys agreed..

"I think we'll get finish that up for probably about twenty thousand. Okay then you gotta is. The is the house actually finished. Then yes we're living in. no. I'm putting you put twenty thousand dollars driveway and the sidewalk are you done. Oh yeah okay. What is your income from any other sources My husband collects sixteen hundred a month and social security. I have not filed yet for social security even on sixty two this month on exploring i. I don't know if i should fall you. They're not and one of the things we did when we built laws are looked at the garage and the size of the garage and thought for. That's a lot of space above the garage. So we put an an in-law apartment when we built. And i have a son who's renting from us so getting an extra six hundred a month from the in apartment it sounds like you need to invest the eighty thousand and create some extra income for live on the sea in good mutual funds and sit down with a smartvestor pro. Click smartvestor pro at ramsey solutions. Like one in your area and sit down with them but don't do that and have a dirt path to your front door. Finish the house. And because you're gonna be living there hong time and that dark path is gonna be a reminder of the trauma that the that the fire was and the fire fire trauma losing everything pets and everything in a house. Fire is it's it's one of the it's on that list of one of the ten things you can put you in the hospital from stress. Yeah that's very emotional and Bernie like dave san the point of the baby steps not to be miserable and so i don't want you guys to sacrifice a level where you have a dirt path going up to your house and you have you know college dorm room furniture because you're sacrificing. I want you guys to enjoy the things that you have and you can do that without going crazy. Human sounds like you're very frugal already. But i don't want you to go nuts on this stuff so do what you need to do to get the house in order to where you enjoy living in it and you can get to the front door and then invest the rest like dave's talking about so that you guys can retire with dignity now. Now keep in mind if you make ten thousand dollars eighty thousand. That's eight thousand dollars a year. Okay so we're only talking about a few hundred dollars a month or adding to your budget. It's not a ton but it'll help some just like the mother-in-law apartments shopping some with with a kid ridding it and all that and so you just keep taking those little steps. But you're not to make these. You do not have a big monthly income with all these things added together. You still don't have a big monthly income and so you're going to have your your social security checks gonna start pretty quick. 'cause you're gonna need to add that to this pile to be able to live on what you guys are actually making unless there's income coming from somewhere that you did not outline for some reason here are that we didn't understand. Do you have a rule of thumb for when to take out that social security depending on your situation. Well.

"Woke me up a little bit yeah so You have a landscaping business and you are making what kind of income so When i'm just kind of using it as a side gig which was on you know a couple of years ago it was making in one hundred bucks here three hundred there and i'm reading. You need money right now. What are you making right right right now. like of past week or so. I probably brought in about two thousand dollars a week and a half two weeks doing what Just landscaping okay. All right and so. You're out there hustling up landscaping business right. Oh yeah i'm not every single day. didn't in my land. My my life. Lifeguarding that If i to work close to forty hours a week. I'm making about fourteen o seven after taxes. Every two weeks paycheck. That's bringing me down about eight hundred thirteen to eight hundred bucks which is nothing so you know the landscaping is gonna make you a lot more If you look at them on top of that what. I'm just i'm working for myself so it's more meaningful. It has greater potential. That type of stuff right this second. I don't give a crap about that. I'm just trying to get you where you have shelter and food. Your life's meaning is way down my list right now for you. I just want you to have a place to live and food. And i'm stability sustainability. Then we can worry about meaning and self actualization and those kinds of things but right now i've got a nineteen year old homeless kid On the phone and that that's what's running through my head so No you do not need to buy seventeen thousand dollars camper under any circumstances okay. Incre not a good move. You have four thousand dollars if you can find a ratty oh used one for a thousand bucks which you probably can and you wanna live in that for Four months while you build up some more cash than stabiliser income common than go rent an apartment with a roommate. That's okay if you live with the guy you're with She said. I mean as long as it takes as long as i'm working my ass. Pardon me working off to get myself. Stabilized and i do have a very good work ethic like i'm out here working a ton i'm not. I'm not questioning that. Okay so So we need to define that because when someone comes to stay in my home. I want to know when they're leaving. I don't want to stay there because it's not just as long as it takes could be till you're twenty nine. He didn't mean that. So i wonder what he meant. So he's meaning is like six months. Okay you know mac. Let's just do listen. you know. let's just do let's just stay there for awhile and the so listen. Listen and build up your pilot of cash. Can you build up during that time and get your income stabilized and then get a roommate right. Yeah i mean it sounds like you have very little expenses right now. Lucas so i want you to take advantage of that while this this man is giving you a lot of grace Like dave san. I would not go into debt for this camper. I know you wanna live this minimalist life. And i respect that. That's not minimalist but renting thousand dollar camper when you're broke is not minimalist. Yeah i think you should need to rent and get a roommate if that after that six months. You don't have enough for that camper. But that campers not going up in value and it's a depreciating asset so it's basically like you saying. Hey can i take out alone for seventeen thousand dollars to get a truck and we're going to say no so i want you to live your dreams your nineteen. You got a lot of life ahead of you but right now. You need a solid foundation. You don't have that and so you've got a great work ethic like you're talking about us that to your advantage and use this free rent to your advantage and sock away. Maybe you could save five ten grand go rent somewhere for another six months and maybe year two from. Now you get that camper my prediction okay..

"Just or everyone all right. This is the segment where we read things that people send in that they think are doing they wanted to. Just everyone would like to submit one of yours. Tweet it to at air iowa and bef and use the hashtag j. m. o. e. purchase mirror everyone. Here's one from linda. I'm wondering what you guys are going to think you might think she's a monster. I dunno. Linda says when picking out a greeting card. I rarely take the intended envelope. I'm always looking around for a different colored envelope that matches the card better. I can't say i've ever done that if if there's anything that really displays maybe it's american culture but i'd say it's just humanity and what a pack of hyenas we are. It's the greeting cards section especially like day. Mother's day just looks like a bomb went often their people. Don't have the decency to set them back in the sleeve. They came in pick this up. I have no idea where grabbed. It must go here halfway in diagonally. The envelope of time just throw it just becomes chaos. That's just the worst. That's why we have things like the masked singer because of those assholes i mean. That's the reason why i would do that. Those because i you look around. And you're like i don't even know if this is the right to begin with right just like lineup. It looks like it's gonna fit skip. I yeah i always do. I do have to check. Because i think it's almost like a fear of buying a car. That won't go into an envelope claustrophobic. And feel bad for that. So every now and you'll get one where like. Maybe this is what i made myself. Where the flap where there glued isn't accessible area and therefore you look at it like that should do the trick and you put it in and it's right to the edge of the glue stream down in there now i. I don't routinely to that nearly stressful. I know stress guys. That's up thing. I don't routinely do that. But if there is not an envelope with the card. And i want. If it's if it's picked over like dave san. I will just find one that goes that goes and then i'm out of there Let's see..

"I said that today when I got here, there's some mornings where And if I assume again if you're up at this time, listen to the lead out spot. You're you're in the boat. I mean, where you're either either at the end of a long night shift, or you're getting up for a really, really early shift. No, That's the opposite. Like I get here and Dave's got a couple hours left and and the leadoff spots his last bit before he gets to cruise out on DSO. Some mornings I walk in, and there's times where it's usually like a Monday. When it's worn on Dave a little bit. That's when Dave's the most tired because she's had the weekend, right. He's been sleeping normal hours. I get that, too, where there's days where I walked in, and I'm just dragging. But what today was one of the days and this was You know, it's funny might be and I'm medium impact. Brian and I were saying this to each other long before Baker may feel ever felt dangerous, You know, I mean, we know now we've just got to sound by Tu A Tu echo that sentiment but might be and I have been saying that or we're saying that when we get up there were some mornings where you get here at 3 30 in the morning. Three. In the morning I woke up OK today I will be when I woke up this morning, feeling pretty dangerous. And there's mornings when you wake up and you're like, Oh, I hope nobody asked me a question, Dude, I don't know. You're open, like boy. I got to do an hour a radio by myself an hour. Sometimes you are hurting, But anyway, today was one of those days I rolled in. I said, Dave, I woke up feeling dangerous. And when I woke up this morning, feeling pretty dangerous is a little sort of the same tone in which I said Dave, I got him at six in 10. That's it. Thank you, Dave Way open with a little Giants doctor. Now we're going to get back to some of the stuff Capital had to say after the game, just a couple of hits on the Coon Rod Roger struggles. In the ball game yesterday as part of the meltdown, which You know, it's tough to get upset about it. Of course Field, you know, don't course just sucks in general, but the Rockies been playing there. Their whole lives not been to one World Series. So it's just kind of a bummer place to have too. Go on play baseball anyway. But we'll get into some of the capital postgame because he talked about the Giants controlling their own destiny. And I think you know last year, obviously a much different trade deadline that it was this year. But Kappler also points out that this is a much different team than last season. And it's interesting because it is as far as some of the pieces but also a lot of the same guys. But some of the guys they found your Donovan Solano's You're Mike Extremes. Keys are obviously staples. Alex Dickerson from the other day, obviously staples as part of this team, But I don't want to go any further without mentioning what happened in the MBA last night. Now, Thie Miami Heat game might be heat are are a damn good team right now. And I know Murph in Mac have talked a lot about it, like, never believe in Erik Spoelstra was gonna last his lungs He did. I certainly didn't think so. Especially after people forget like when, when? When Pat Riley had to step in and take the team from Van Gundy, Right. Like it was van. It was Stan Van Gundy is team for the Dwyane Wade Championship run until Pat Riley's like, Get out of here. I'm gonna I'm gonna take the reins of this thing. We're going to win a title, and they did. Pat Riley took the heat down there and won a championship. And then, of course they bring in LeBron and Chris Bosch to play alongside Dwayne Wade with E, not five. Not six, not seven. Not eight, which in all fairness LeBron was was correct about. He got to mean It wasn't three wasn't for it wasn't 567 or eight. That always cracks me up, Dude. Anyway, they goto four in a row. They were in the middle, too. But Erik Spoelstra's got him playing good basketball man. Jimmy Butler kind of a killer right now is a guy who had seemed like he'd kind of blown up the Chicago Bulls and then did not go well with Tom Thibodeau there in Minnesota for the period of time he was there clearly seems like he's he's in a good spot. Right now. You get a girdle out there just a playoff monster. For the For the Miami Heat. Anyway, Bucks are in trouble. And this has been the problem that wonder about this like for warrior fans. You're sitting back and you're one of these warrior fans who is is hoping and praying that Johannes Antenna quote Bull ends up as a As a golden state warrior. In the next couple of years, I've been questioning Is it better for him to win the title? Or is it better for himto get bounced again and never go? I think the worst case scenario is Yannis gets to go to the embassy finals, gets a taste of it and then loses. Is that maybe you feel like I got unfinished business. I got to go back to Milwaukee because I got to go back and win this thing with the team. I started this with a canoe, but I got like, and the other thought is what if they go into what if what if you will, yet, Dave San will. Kevin Durant didn't do it. But that's why people hated Kevin Durant was that they get balanced after being up 3 to 1. Andi says, woman. I can't beat him. I'm gonna join them make a b out. But that's not the case with the honest my question is just I wonder if Johannes Like again and maybe his mind's made up. Maybe he says, I'm staying in Milwaukee. No matter what. Maybe he says, I'm leaving no matter what. But I wonder like, Is it better if he wins the title? Does he say OK, great. I have accomplished that I can leave because that was always my feeling With LeBron like had LeBron won the title in Cleveland, gone to Miami and put on the show and got on ESPN and did the not three Not four. Not five, not six. Had he won the title first. I don't think they'd have burned his jerseys in in Cleveland. No, it's not necessarily the same situation. But it's kind of like to me Ko ay up in Toronto. He was only there for a year. They loved him, and they probably wouldn't have hated him. Had he not won the title and left anyway. Get traded up there. He wasn't he wasn't born and raised in their backyard like LeBron was in Akron with with Cleveland. But he's also like he gets a lifetime pass. Have LeBron won the title and then left. I think people in Cleveland would have been like, OK, we're a little bummed you left but thank you for the title. We appreciate the championship for the first time since 1948 or whatever. It was the last. I guess they want NFL championships pretty Super Bowls, right? Since the Cleveland Indians had won what was in the 1960 58 something like that. It's 55 days. 50 56 55 days with your 65. Thank you. So still more recent than the than the last of the Cleveland Indians, 11 in 1948, which, by the way, two days in a row Now we're talking 1948 Cleveland Indians about that, Anyway, I just always thought that have LeBron gotten the job done in Cleveland first, not three. Not for not can he was he wasn't wrong. You one wrong, Dude. He was right. He hit on the head. I think he might have been more respected. But back to the honest thing. I just wonder like, if you're honest goes to the finals and loses, then maybe it feels like I got unfinished business here, which is basically what happened with the calves. They went to the finals against the Spurs and lost. So you knew you had a team that could that could get there. Did you have a team that could win it all.

And I think what do you do that you can afford a first class ticket? You're just not as glamorous. Judgy? And then I go back with the rest of us peons go to Marie I in San Diego. Hari marie. Marie there. Marie marie. That's what she said. It was. Let me try this one here. Maria. Can you hear me? This is going to be a good call. Yeah. Eric reiterate what she's at earliest, which you wrote up here. Yes. She said something about is Mike just mad because he went to Yale. And he's not in first class. Maybe a little baby. Still. It's a funny live. I believe that it's hating. I believe it. But on the hate us. Research suggesting I'm jealous. I will I will think about that. Marie. But I generally don't think that's it. I'm not even I'm not even trying to pass it off. I don't think I'm jealous because I don't mind. I don't mind airplanes, I'm fine. Plus when you fly with a two year old and one year old which I normally do with the four of us and you plot you find an airplane by yourself. Like a spa. I felt like I was at Valencia getting a getting a full massage in a hot. It was unbelievable. I could just sit here for five hours and not do anything. That's awesome. Pretty funny when you. Whenever I go on an airplane, especially across country. I think this is great. I am going to read for five hours straight. It's gonna be great. Last night. I watched seven episodes of whose line is it anyway. Yeah. I was on the way back from Arizona last weekend on a flight, and I got sandwiched in between two people because the wife check us in like five minutes late or something like that the southwest right into it together. Yeah. Yeah. So we got like I was sitting next to some dude in some other. Check wife's nowhere to be found the guy next to me. It was like a comedy. He didn't sweating profusely didn't feel I doing the, oh, do you mind? If I sit with my wife, it's a short flight. I don't think he can pull that one. No, that's tough. I hadn't even considered that. Yeah. I'll be over here. Contemplate, though, if the plane went down what I would do because I would need to tell my wife goodbye. And I would kinda wanna go down near her, right? Certainly. While otherwise the history books will be written as Eric tried to jump out of the plane ride. I thi- parachute. Let's see. Well, listen, if the plane was going down, obviously what you do is you would jump from your middle seat. Put the terrorists you hit take them with assuming there is a terrorist show. There's like five or six I was thinking like engine fan. With both your feet. Okay. While you're flying over the seat, and then you grabbed his gun, and you shoot them. Okay. And then all the planes like. Then you go back, and you grab your wife. Andrew and. Yeah, you like throw your wife over your shoulder right up to the cockpit pilot land the plane. Yeah. Larson Larson how to how to land this thing, man. That's pretty simple problem there. So worked up about have you seen Ellen Degeneres. Stand up yet. I saw the first like fifteen minutes. It's so good. That's what you're telling me. You don't enjoy it. Yeah. I like it. I don't you would love it. I thought I thought you would be over the moon about I really liked how she was acting out or jokes. That's why I thought you would enjoy I think it's so funny and the point of it it's called relatable, and she talks. She makes all these jokes about how she's super rich and now not relatable anymore. That's the Albany probably later in the joke. She she makes a joke about airplanes and she says. On about having to sit in ten be to walk up to them. And then she goes non just joking that never happened. I don't even know two planes. Go back that far. Ten rose to they go back ten rose. I don't even know about. First class here. First class. Laputa Dave San Diego. What's up? Dave. Hey, how you doing? You're not judgmental. You actually, you are judgmental about you. Right wrong. All the time. But the judge part is when you walk in first class, and how can they afford it? It's like, oh my God. Right or so close together, they must be frequent fire upgrade, that's the judgmental part. That's they're all there is frequent flyer. Okay. I wonder how many that is the okay. So I have do you. Do you? Fly a lot. You have frequent flyer upgrades. I used to fly a lot more. I used to years ago. My wife had fine privileges from north west analyzed for they were acquired. So we had space, and we would be able to get into first class like ten dollars if the seats available, but that went away because of all the frequent flyers. So yeah, you can give people are flying a lot. It doesn't take long to to qualify and start getting up grade. Okay. That makes it okay. So I'd be okay with that. Because as I said next time, I I'm going to do a poll of everyone in first class. And maybe they'll be a couple there who are frequent flyer people frequent flyers and they got the upgrade. So I fly to I signed up for frequent flyer stuff or whatever. For one of the airlines. I can't wrap my head around it. It doesn't make any sense to me. Yeah. My buddy was trying to explain it to me the short of it is he flies for his company to Florida probably two or three times a month. That's a lot of. So he gets reimbursed for it. So he signed up for a credit card with frequent flyer miles. And now somehow he's ending up in Japan next summer for two hundred dollars. Oh, yeah. That's a lot of flying. I signed up for it. I flew cross country. What am I came back? And you go you log onto your account, and it has like this wheel. And it's like how close you are. When you go all the way around the wheel like you can get like a free fight or something. And it's like. Two percent. Two percent of the way. That'll never have. I'll never in my whole life. Never will. I get all the way around that whole that whole we'll there. Plus, it's all weird like thirty five thousand miles or something. But it's not like how many miles is made up arbitrary number. It's not how many miles you actually fly I flew three thousand miles yesterday. But I don't get three thousand miles. Yeah. You would think something sit on the actual mind. That's like miles is like a made up unit. They use or something doesn't it should be. You get ten flights Frears just keep it simple. Like that. Like, no other stores, like Starbucks, or whatever you got a story. Like, oh, you got you by ten subway sandwiches. You get one free. It's not like, well, the mass poundage of the of the meats assortment you use goes in. It's not that complicated. So frequent flyer miles. Don't don't make any sense to me. Jeff going on Jeff. Hey, how's it going good? I used to work for the airline back in the nineties. So. Is it first class? A lot of those guys are employees most of the time. So it would cost anywhere from like, maybe twenty bucks to why across the country or even a hundred bucks international first class, and you get all the same perks, but we had to wear a suit. So we looked like we were important when we were. Okay. That's an interesting stipulation that you have to you have to look like you said you have to look like you deserve..

"To the New Yorker radio hour, I'm David Ramnik. We're listening today to a conversation with the civil rights leader and politician John Lewis, I spoke with Lewis in two thousand fifteen and now he's just begun his seventeenth term in congress. Lewis told me about his early years growing up as the son of sharecroppers about getting involved in the fight against segregation and about being taken under the wing of Martin Luther King junior. Let's talk about Selma for a moment. This is this is fifty years ago when you think of your own self at that age, you were very very young you're at the front of the line. What got you there? What puts you there? What qualities in you as such a young person? Had you at the front of the line at this event that even must have seen momentous even then not knowing how it would play out down the line. Spoke at the March on Washington on August twenty eighth nineteen sixty three. If I was working on the speech with some of the staff of the student nonviolent coordinating committee snake have been reading a newspaper, and I saw a group of black women in southern Africa, Karen signs and one man one vote. So in my March on Washington speech, I says something like one man one vote is African cry. It is hours too. It must be als. I didn't like the fight of the Mon father my own teachers could not participate in a democratic process. That people were told they cannot read or write well enough. And I knew we had to do something about it. So when I became chair, the student nonviolent coordinating committee, we start working all across the south place in length Selma places in Mississippi. Then one county between Selma and Montgomery Lowndes county was more than eighty percent African American that was not a single register African American voters in the county. We knew we had to we had to find a way to Germany ties the issue to make it real we had to macho Washington. The survey ranked Cyprus passed and signed into law by president Johnson in July nineteen sixty four but people still couldn't register. Three young men to from a New York City. Mickey sure. African american. From mississippi. James shaney who went out on a Sunday night, June twenty first nineteen sixty four to investigate the burning of an African American church to the use of voter registration, workshops. These three young men will stop by the sheriff arrested place in jail, then taken out of the jail Canova to the plan, but they were beaten shot and keel. We can allow their deaths in vain we had to insist that the congress passed the voting rang site. There seemed to be in you as a young man attention between your adherence to the principles of non violence and your loyalty to Dr king and the southern Christian leadership conference, and then a more radicalizing rhetoric and the movement towards snick, and as you know, better than anybody else in this world. There was both an alliance between an an pronounced tension between us ELC and snick and those tensions would grow in the movement and reach their reach an even wider Gulf with the rise of Malcolm X, black power and the Panthers what conflict what inner conflicts were you facing as an individual. And as a civil. Rice leader in his young man in the movement questions. And love and my doctor king for him. I don't know what would happen to me. He inspired me. He sent me on on a Pat in one thousand nine hundred sixty two before I became the chair. The student unbound coordinating committee invited me to become a member of his voter director as soda delays on between the young people and adults in the movement. He was almost like a big brother, and I was not going to stuff a rate my affection and love for Dr. He was my leader. And I could be strong like assigned militant sign radical. But I believe in the way appeased the way of love. I believe in that we've got to have program not just a lot of rhetoric, but we have to engage in a one two threes and ABC's organizing people in organizing a movement, and leading a group of people will you made uncomfortable by or worried about things pulling you more to the less. They Stokely Carmichael who was also in snack and a comrade of yours described those tensions and how you look back at them. Well, I never got caught up in the the rhetoric. Blanked Powell because snake as an organization we believe in. Doing something in a programmatic way, not just talking to talk. But walking the walk. I never heard you talk much about Malcolm X and your evaluation of his legacy. Both how you felt about him in real time. And how you now look back at him and his role in the movement. Well, I met Malcolm on the eve of the March on Washington denied of August twenty seven thousand nine hundred sixty three and we had a brief discussion. How do you feel about the March on Washington? He was not supportive of watching. He has some things to say about what did he say? Well, he said in effect that we live president Kennedy to turn the mortgage into social a picnic or something like that JFK was somehow using you to take the onus off take some of the steam as you well know in the beginning. President Kennedy was disappointed move out at all when we met with them in June nineteen sixty three you said if you bring all these people to Washington when it'd be violence and chaos and disorder. We would never get a civil rights Bill to the congress and after the March took place, and it was so successful that day, president Kennedy invited us all back down to the White House. He stood in the door the Oval Office reading now, he was beaming. Like, a proud father. He kept saying you did the job you did at the job. And when he got to Dr king his new did the job you had a dream. That was my last time in you find that purely joyful or a little patronizing or both Kennedy's one of you know, I thought he was. Being encouraging and that he was so pleased that everything had going so well that in his own way, you know, he was the first president in the history of the country. We need delivered a speech on June eleventh nineteen sixty three. So the issue raised the issue is a moral issue. But at the same time, he has J Edgar Hoover spying on Martin Luther King. So he's. I'm not gonna try to defend speak of but to be very Franken candidate, which I think a lot of president Frederick Jaeger Hoover. This man did so much damage. Have you ever lived to your FBI report? Oh, yes. I've seen it. Yeah. What are the highlights where I can actually just get not to? No. It's a lot of just Marcotte it black and odd. Yeah. I'm grateful for that. Not really, I think the truth everything should come on. I didn't do anything. That was. I thought it was illegal or more or anything like that. I think this man obsess the destroying a movement to liberate all of them are people Hoover louver. Yes. And if I told you in one thousand nine hundred sixty five that we'd be where we are. Now, both with a black president, but also with Ferguson and Staten Island and everything we know about the dynamics of this country and its inequalities and the nature of institutional racism, whether it's in our schools are voting laws. How would you you reacted? You so immensely hopeful. To lose hope is to give up you have to be optimistic. You have to believe some highest some way going to work it out. I get that. But look at the institution, you know, but inspite of it all will human. We make blunders we make mistakes. Yes. And keeping philosophy and the disciplined nonviolence. Press. I have to say, and I mean this with great respect, I think. Viewed from outside and even peaking in once in a while as a reporter, the house of representatives represents one of those French caricatures of the French assembly and everybody looks kind of strange and weird and monstrous, and it is a. Well, not in front of you. I'm not gonna okay. Show. Nothing gets done. Leaderships. Don't mean much anymore. You go to work there every day. Do you come home at night and drink yourself to sleep or? What's it like well as to what else another world another world? I'm trying to be hopeful and optimistic, but Aaron and and not to have an executives session, a quite a few days. Dave. San why I've seen I've been in congress knife almost thirty years. And has seen better days. What's happening? What why is there this talent level this sense of resentment, and anger and fury, and inexplicable we're going to have another school shooting or another mass shooting? Sure shooting in three weeks or in two months God forbid, but it will happen. Well, nothing I think. You have a group of people have been elected. And I don't know if I ran for office in the first place. Don't like government in some don't like people. It's a great combination early. I think people. Who go to bed mean they're dreaming. They get me in the mean for the rest of the day today. Go back to debating just means some more. Who can I? Today or tomorrow, they don't believe in government. One of the common t shirts that I've seen among adherence to an activists for black lives matter is this isn't your granddaddy, civil rights movement. How would you you've obviously met with people you've seen? What's happened? You've seen the use of social media as an organizing principle. Whereas black lives matter at this point. What you admire about it. Maybe what concerns you about it, and what role does it play on just last evening was in an airport. And a young man came up, and you said Congressman Lewis, I'm part of like lives matter. I love you. So you're my hero. You your friends in the student coordinating committee in snake made it possible, I exist. And has it. I wish you well. Continuing your work. Do you feel a part of it? I feel like some of these young people could be mon- children, and my grandchildren a, Greg grandchildren, and maybe a picking up where we left off. But they part of an extension of that movement. Let's let's look at where they where they and all of us have to pick up where you have brought us. Voting rights is something that particularly concerns you lay out for us. What where we are with voting rights. What the motivations of the players are. And what the possibilities are. Well, the voter ranks. Right. Signed into law on August. Sixth nineteen sixty-five change American been wonderful Cain junior came back from receiving the Nobel peace prize. He had a meeting with president Johnson. And you said to the president in so many words, Mr President, we need a voter ranked site and Lyndon Johnson said if you want it make me do it. He said we don't have those in congress who get a voter rank saints pass. I just signed us. But if you want it make me do it so Martin Luther King junior. Join us in Selma Alabama. Was have been working since nineteen sixty two and the drama. Salma to Mississippi in other parts of the south created a climate created environment. They get to act passed and signed into law on August. Sixth nineteen sixty five fifty years ago since then. Because the decision of the United States Supreme court decision. Put a dagger in the heart of the Voting Rights Act, nineteen sixty-five in many states, not just serving stakes but states in northeast, Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania, good example, in the mid west and all across our country. Why trying to make a Hawaii's this happening? If we've made so much remained, but things have of people people afraid of the future America is changing specific. What are they afraid of the kind of a Browner America afraid of the makeup of America's changing just just look around? And I don't want to be that partisan about it. But just look around when Texas become a democrat stronghold putting Latino population become citizens who said people in a path to citizenship. We have comprehensive immigration reform people.

"You can follow. Dave Mason on Twitter at Dave Mason, Dave one game left on the NFL docket. What's the betting handle look like so far as we sit about seventy two hours away from kickoff betting handle from the roof, especially early early actions. Crazy got steady will slow and steady early action. When the patriots as small dogs meeting pick them. Through the roof going to be humongous Rams fans. Super Bowl Sunday. Not only get spread. But the money line is well what we got here at seven eight percent seventy nine eighty percent of the money is on the patriots currently modest two and a half about seventy five percent of the money line action is on the patriots currently minus one thirty eight. The toll was not a huge decision yet about fifty five percent of the action is on the over so far. But, but yeah, it's kind of one of those spreads where usually you need underdog on a spread the favorite on the money line. But that's not the case we we're gonna need to dog on both big. It's pretty pretty crazy. 'cause I mean, you talked about it and paying I know you, and I have broken this down in the past typically the recreational better once about the favourite lay in the points here. She's going to back the underdog on the money line the books at least put themselves in a good spot. Apparently, not quite the case for what Dave San. No, it doesn't sound like it. And I think it's a just a different game here because we're looking at a line. That's roughly picked the winner to the the recreational better. Dave disquiet question here talking about the spread a little bit more internally. Have you guys discussed going to three in if so at what point do envision going there? You know, it's we know we all know on this call at least why that number's not at three right? Sharp axe at some point. And you know, that goes three that there's a bunch of people out there. Looking chops waiting for that three? So, you know, be bad Super Bowl. It's a last game of the year. It depends on that red number man on you know, the guys upstairs who hated him out a little playback thing. Yeah. Play back in we get and it's not going to be free, for God's sakes might be a few seconds to get some big Texan just get some money down. But, but no, I mean, you know, it's it's we all know that you gotta pay attention that sharp action more than the public action. And that's that's the way we do things here in union square books. Don't take shar backs you might get that three, but we take significant amount of short back shit. So. Should be there. But I wouldn't say I say essay, minus four hundred stays at two and a half Loof. Interesting too steep line. That's a steep steep number there. Yeah. Have you seen any sharp action? Come in early at this point side or total. Side patriots early when their goals. I mean that that you know, pickle pick them better. But you know, that was early onto the limits were dead high. So we do know that why sharp action wakes to Linnet at very high told a little bit on the not too much. A lot in the first half. I would assume more so. Yeah. Okay. Interesting in props. How those look anything that's pretty interesting in terms of liability any games or any props? Maybe you've had to take off the board anything crazy with the proper action, but online dot AG. About the Arctic rock to retire people, counting the hell. Interview last night. He did I don't know be sold interview. But about injuries and stuff most serious interview of ever seen Iran do in step. I think they got good value. There we close the Reito's what will color three does bag. They the first rita's -mercial and people would also start pounding the favorite read. I mean, it's pretty heavy favorite. But they start pounding in. And the our props Magara close into some research. Look like the commercial about leak or something. So it did. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So. Aso? Especially some of these accounts highlighted sharp county people that there in the spread and other been fricking, everything frigging dorito, commercial bags and stuff. But whatever. So hey, good engine this business wherever you can find Dave..

"Thanks for checking in. I know you're busy what's happening at the fest. You guys do what everyone just trying to stay warm before for the snow in the minus nine on Wednesday that that's got to be right? I get it's winter in Chicago. That's why we have the hot stove league out. Right. Scott yesterday recon and every all the questions seemed to all revolve around Manny Machado. I never heard Bryce Harper's name pop up at all apparently from following Twitter and some other things his name popped up today. Well, I think you know, I it's kind of an either or thing this whole this whole I want to say best. But this whole process is kind of you know, teams kind of bidding against each other. But looking at you know, which one or the other he even said today when somebody asked him to possible to get both. And he said, which is a great answer. I thought that, you know, this is that the last premium free agent, they're going to be in on over the years, and you know, whether they hit or don't hit on either one of these guys is probably not the most financially feasible thing. Moving forward to add that both in the same Aussies. So yeah, I think there is interest in both. There's certainly into you know, they we also is is today mentioned in the session. We all saw the league early out of the the billboard. Or, you know, the, George jersey and the Heartbreakers. Yeah, the Jordan's day, and then sort of thing, and then we know they've met with Machado and their various Machado. So I just think it, you know, if if let's say hypothetically Philly backs up the truck and gets Machado for an offer. He wants I don't think this actor Don, I think they would turn their attention to Harper at that point. So I just I I think they both would in this team. They both certainly would work. Let's face it. They'd fit at any team. And I think you can make a case for both guys to kinda worked for the White Sox. We had heard about stupid money early on about Philadelphia. But now, I don't know if it's stupid money. But now apparently San Diego's gotten involved in this whole thing should that concern White Sox fans. Well, I don't know exactly. San Diego's payroll structure that song. But I I would think they're in a similar position to the White Sox. Right. And that they have a lot of young talent coming. You know, I think it's what the Padres the socks in Atlantic. And you know, the razor in there too. But those four pretty much considered maybe Houston's draw their to four or five considered the best system baseball. So yeah, I think San Diego's had a very similar position with an also very aggressive GM and prowler. So I don't know if it would concern them. I mean, you know, I think everything concern you've your pursuing this guy. I think no matter what people report, I think the Yankees probably still have some interest in Manny Machado, and until there's a signing. I think anyone should pretty much concerned that, but yeah, I think San Diego fits that profile assuming the man he wants to go to the west coast and have spring training at Arizona and all the other intense, stay warm on your. Beautiful city. Yeah. I was just there. Darren October from my cousin's wedding San Diego pursued me I'd have to think about it a little bit. I think it's the best ballpark. Everyone off people say. Whereas if I go out of town ball game, whether it's a card game SOX game Randy I've done just going in San Diego, the ballpark's right there on the harbor, whatever they call it the bay or whatever. What is that harbor? About three blocks. And you're at the downslide as it's called the downtown area. I to. Mexican restaurant. It was unbelievably terrific. Every day. Scott looks at his Email. Message from Padres dot com. Come work for us. I'll tell you this though, it had a cheap city to be found out for the the four or five days. I was there for the wedding. It's it's it's a beautiful city. There's a lot to do and there's all sorts of areas around there Coronado island. It's not like I should be working for the border. Let me tell you that. I love Chicago too. Minus fifty windchills video. Real quick. The rumor is based on a beat reporter his name's Adam board, and I have it right here. But San Diego union Tribune reports the Padres compels feel compelled to enter the race for Manny Machado when it became clear that the price was not going to be as high as initially expected due to the limited teams dating amount of teams bidding on them. Here's a bigger question to a guy who's been in the in the game of reporting for many many years and being around how? Scott do agents said a plant this stuff, or maybe the teams planters, let's go to our beat guide and not you. Let's go to a big guy there and have him throw out that we're interested. You know, don't think the Padres think this is good. But we're not the agent plants. It you know, I need Mark teams up this bidding here make up a few false market teams. You have to always be careful when you read these order. Pretty much figured. I know who the reporter is. And I know, you know, his veracity, how do you how do you look at these in general of your fan? Versus you point out. I've done this for a long time. But yet, I'm only thirty five. So go figure that one out. You do the math at that. One. Started. I know that's right. Rick just mentioned today someone's asking about the mystery team in the in the seminar here, and you said usually the mystery team is an ad existed. This whole. So everyone here's what was said today say that again, please. I mean, I think people kind of assume that. The types of mystery team is the ninety but I will say this is Dave San Diego has been attach name. Why this you can put a little more creative? And I think a couple of things that all this. I think is. Yeah. You know, we assume the market is where teams can get in. But really how many people really truly one hundred percent know what the exact offers are. I mean with the White Sox. What what do you think maybe be a handful of people don't think they're you know, every day? I don't think Rick Rick is issuing an Email throughout the organization saying, hey, here's our offer today. And here's what we plan to go next week. So everyone else is you know, you have sources you trust sources you trust some more than others, and you go from there. But I think, you know, with a name attached to San Diego with the profile certainly fitting that you know, if he wants to go to a team like the White Sox are the Padres that is close to winning, but still rebuilding. It makes sense in that case. I didn't think the pirates for instance, who were brought up as a team. Radio guy in the Dominican Republic. I saw that report. Yeah. He talked a lot recant over the weekend about number five starters. I know people have asked him about that and Easter without Manny loss with that many people know about it and Dylan Colby, but I I was really I don't really cool what he said about Dane donning because Dame dunning is a name which I had heard when people started talking about this whole Jack Petersen possibility that today see Jack Peterson could end up going for real mudo down in Miami. That'd be fine. I don't want Jack Petersen. First of all, I definitely don't want to get rid of dunning. But the way recant talk about Dane dunning, unless he's just trying to hype up his trade value. It seems like he's a guy that's going to be here in the future prop, maybe not this year. But definitely in the future. No, they genuinely like they Denning. I don't think that's a hype up for trade value. I know Nick Hostettler and this looked at him. When he was draft eligible guy. So I this is a guy. They really were glad to have as part of the deal on it. Yeah. I think he would have been funny. Even Dan Cooper. I talked to him earlier mentioned dining before I think they decided that let's go on that kind of regulated pass. And having just started the minor league minicamp and then go from there. But he's he's he's definitely with that said Fred there. I, you know, something that you could have said three or four or five years ago about the tax. There is now a plethora of young talent. So that all these guys are gonna play for the White Sox unless you fan do an eight-man rotation rotate seven outfielder so some are going to be traded. There's no question about that. And that's what Canada I think the players get that that, you know, young players are air to either help the team get better or to make moves to add players to help he'd get better. So, you know, it's a great situation for this act of being they have this many options. We let you go not to you lost any sleep over it or either as Tim Anderson, but I'm starting afresh with Tim Anderson. He improved his defense last year. I'm starting. Fresh just get on base steal some basis. Played good defense. He's on my side. I'm on his side. Let's say that. Yeah. He's on my side. Let me add a great kid to the fire. He has the fire has you know, he's I think he lasts up to him yesterday. He said something along divide. You're either with us or we're gonna roll over. You know, easy ready to go. This is this group is young group. It's interesting. They're very close very tight group. And I think you saw that with the cubs. You see it with the Astros. You saw with the royals it. I get you know, you can't measure this sabermetrics or quantitatively. But it does make a difference. Don't you have this group coming up together and believe in each other? When it gets to that point where you gotta push a little further to get past the division title past the LTS to try and win a championship. Scott Martin Saks fast that Cam with a plethora of great sacks scouts. Thank you very much. San diego. I'll talk to you guys there in Fred's Mexican restaurant telling me, no. Thanks. Dallas Jerry Ken is funny too. Because what he brought up yesterday, and you probably saw this because it was odd with cap on sports talk live from five thirty to six yesterday. They were talking to Tim Anderson, and he over Sanchez and Sanchez brought up the point they asked him about what he thought about Tim Anderson playing next door. We listen I've come up all the way through with this guy. And I've seen how hard he works and he needed to work on his defense. He did last year became a better defensive shortstop as time went by. And that's his goal and as long as guys out there keep working, and you know, you could see on TV yesterday. Just just the amount of fun. The Tim Anderson's having four years ago. I talked to Tim Anderson socks you barely get a word out of them three years ago. I said Tim, I talked to you last year. He got a little playing time..

And the New Orleans Saints survive fourteen nothing deficit, and they move on to the conference championship. Eagles going home, baby. All right. It is time. You hear the sounds to check that sports stock Steve who stocks up and new stocks down before we get started. I didn't mention this earlier. I just want to throw this out there. And the reason I mentioned this is not to say, hey, look at how cool I am in in gloat. It's more to inspire back on October twenty third of twenty eighteen I went to the doctor, and I weighed I was Wade there as you go and have your little physical and everything two hundred forty three pounds that number shocked me embarrassed me it upset me. And I said, Nope. This is done and I had been talking about getting my act together for several years. And I knew I could cut weight pretty quick. But I decided now is the time and I've been working out at twenty four hour, fitness. Wanna creek I have been eating right oatmeal for breakfast salads for launch. I can't I gotta tell you. I mean, I feel great. I've always had energy. But now, it's just like I have this enthusiasm and it helped me with myself steam, it's helped me with everything and today. Well, first of all I set a goal. I wanted to be under two hundred pounds by February first while we made some progress and I hit that goal. Got on the scale.
