"This stained sports history polling. Sure thing, Dan. 19 40, the first televised college basketball game was shown. Anybody wanted to take a guess where the two teams that played at Madison Square gardens, gardens back then. Fordham. Correct? In a non New York team, but in the oh. Not too much. NYU, no, outside of New York City, quite outside. I thought they had a double header. Oh, I gotta check that. I think it was a double header. I got four versus university of Pittsburgh. 1940 on TV. I think I think NYU and Georgetown played was a big Tuesday on ESPN. No, no, that was big Monday. Monday. Big Monday, big Monday. The violence must have crushed the hoyas. Yeah. 1987, chick her in 2000 career games for the LA Lakers as their broadcast are very popular broadcaster. 1999, Venus and Serena Williams became the first sisters to win WTA Tour events on the same day and John Madden replaced blank on Monday Night Football 2002. John Madden replaced blank. Dennis Miller on Monday Night Football. I actually really like Miller on the show. Tutankhamun. The offense is like the Tennessee valley authority. What? What are you talking about? Love the reference. It's just they kept overthinking Monday Night Football. They kept trying to make it what it once was, and you could never. It was magic that you put that group together and you had co sell in there and dandy Don, Frank Gifford, and they kept for years trying to bring in Tony kornheiser. And then bring in jaws and then bring in Dennis Miller and then I could just get a good get good games and get somebody who can call the action. Offense reminds me of Vasco da Gama. Lying in the DMV. America Vince bucci. Todd, what did you learn today? LeBron James is feared to be out several weeks with a foot injury. Yeah. Feared by ESPN to be out for a couple of weeks. See, no counter. Jalen Rose held Kobe under a hundred. Yeah. We've been looking at that all wrong. Yeah. Marv. Jalen said the power forward used to be powerful. Yeah. Pauly, she and the rose says, I'm famous. Todd would and I learned today. Jalen Rose grew up in Detroit played in Indiana, so of course he hated Michael Jordan. What'd you do everything it could to protect your family? Of course you would. "Control. Do you agree? The pitcher does. And the pitcher does have more control. It's going to be a tougher adjustment for the hitter and I think Max Scherzer a couple days ago. Guys are talking about how he had the baseball ready to go and then once you get ready to go and then whether out of the full wind up the stretch, you can hold the ball. And so as a pitcher, that's an advantage. Hitters hate pitchers holding the baseball messing up their timing. And pitchers like hitters like rhythm. And so most guys don't practice the holding of the baseball to then deliver a pitch. So those are things that if you can kind of tighten stuff like that up and get familiar with it, it could really be an advantageous to the pitcher. What can you take advantage of as a manager this year? With these new rules. I think honestly, I can take advantage of more time with my family more time to drink wine for shorter games. But with respect to the game of baseball, I think it's just more the low hanging fruit is just educating our players because I think that the more you get familiar and talk about it, it becomes commonplace. So I don't think there's one thing that we can sort of game, you just got to be really, you know, you got to just prepare your players much. So I don't think there's anything that we can sort of game. It was a little over a year ago when we had John. It was March 24th, and you made your prediction. Here's how it sounded with the Dodger manager Dave Roberts. The Dodgers will win the World Series if. We play a full season and there is a postseason. Wait, we are winning the World Series in 2022. So what I know where you're going with that? No, one of the World Series this year. Put it on. Okay. Put it on record. And you know what? But that's fair, but what you did do is you did cut up my caveat of having if our starting pitching stays healthy. So I understand what you just did there. So I can play. I'm on the pitch clock right now. So it's media. I get it, Dan. I'm not going to say we're going to win the World Series in 2023. I still believe that. I really do. And I don't think there's a manager that has a really competitive team that doesn't feel that way. Our guys feel that way. Yeah, so I didn't have a problem. I would hope that everybody else did. Oh yeah, you guaranteed a World Series. If I'm managing the Dodgers, yeah, we're going to win the World Series. And we should have that mindset starting now. And I don't have any problem. If you said, I don't think we're going to win the World Series. That's news saying that you that we're going to win. Yes, I want that from my manager. Yeah, exactly. And that's the people that know and that have understand the sentiment behind that. So they have to be here, but we didn't finish. Did you get in trouble? Did you get yelled at for that guarantee by anybody? No, I did not. Okay. I'd like to think my days of getting yelled at are over. So no, I did not. You'll win the World Series this year if we play good baseball throughout, October. How about that? That's not as scalding of a hot take as I would like, but just trying to I'm sorry to disagree. Why don't you think about me, Dave? Why don't you think about me on this show that we could get some publicity? You know, you've done, you've done very well for yourself, my friend. And so I did my part last spring. I'm gonna leave it up to another major league manager. How about that? Do you yell at players? No, no, I don't. I think I've just learned, I guess, as a former player that, you know, a lot of times when a manager head coach is yelling at a player, I think a little bit, they get more satisfaction and then trying to get the message to land with the player. And so I think for me, I've always tried to make it about the player. So we have some tough conversations. But I do it kind of behind the scenes. I just never want to, I never wanted to be embarrassed and I don't think that anyone ever wants to be in business. I'm always amazed when I watch a basketball coach. Who is preaching discipline, but then gets mad and gets animated and starts yelling. I'm thinking, I know with my kids, if I would yell at them or if I would talk to them in a certain voice, the certain voice got through to him. When you start to yell, it's like they tune you out. Or you give them a look. And it's like, no, that's not, that's not good. Let's talk about this. They're like, oh boy, I'm in trouble. Yeah, yeah, exactly. And I think, you know, with obviously with basketball and football and baseball, the culture is different. And we're playing a 162 games. And it's a different pace, granted this year, the pace of play is going to be a lot quicker, but I still, I'm with you, Dan. It's like the yelling you start to become a land on deaf ears. And so I think for me, a look and how we go about things, that's something I'm more critical of and you've got to find a way to make players want to play the right way and put forth the right amount of effort. It's great to talk to you and we were at giant stadium in Scottsdale for the Super Bowl. And just letting you know, it was the convenience of it. We had a nice set up there and they gave us the entire stadium. So I did feel like I was cheating on you a little bit, but I will say that they had t-shirts already made up that had to do with hating the Dodgers. Well, I appreciate the honesty. I'm still trying to get past that SC banner behind you that so I'm just trying to like, I'm still trying to come to grips with that. So I appreciate it. I put two kids through school. I deserve something from you. And I didn't get any discount. You know, it was like full boat. I had to pay for these two. That's fair. So I'm going to brag about my daughter who's at Stanford and I got to sign at Lola marmot. So I'm almost out of Woods with one. And so I'm going to be enjoying life once my daughter gets out of school. Yeah, what Stanford sets you back? I'm going to say, I think my wife does all the billing. I think it's 70 K I think that's, I think that's the load number probably, right? You better win the World Series, Dave. Don't try to talk about that. Guaranteed sort of they're going to win the World Series. Great to talk to you. Thanks for joining us. All right, Dan, take care, man. That's Dave Roberts. Dodgers manager. We're going water wall P funk. Oh, okay. World of war. George clay should be a billionaire. This is the stuff that's been taken from him or sampled. Yeah. He should have like a $1 billion. Career salary, George Clinton, working on it. P funk? Parliament. I'm looking at NBA MVP odds and it's the Joker by a long shot. Followed by Joel embiid Giannis Jason Tatum and Luka Duncan. It's the Joker. Going back to back to back, how many players in the history of the sport have gone back to back to back MVP? Larry legend who do that? Correct. And let's see. Michael Jordan did not. Because that's a classic example of we can't vote for Jordan again. Let's give it to Karl Malone. And Karl Malone, they had a great year. I think one like 61 games or something. But then when Barclay got it, we had Jordan fatigue, and I voted for him every year. Those 6 years, 7 years, 7 years, I think I voted for Jordan for MVP. Will Chamberlain had three in a row. Bill Russell had three in a row is all MBA. I got cream cream of dol jabbar of having 5 and 9 years. Okay. But not three in a row. No, he had, you mix in some Dave cowens, bob mcadoo, Bill Walton, moam alone, but otherwise cream owned. Oh, check that and throw in a luau cinder that I missed. So cream had 6 in ten years? Yeah. Yeah. That's pretty good. By the way, just before the TV era, by the way. Bill Russell documentary, it's really well done. It's two parts. It's on Netflix and you get a real good sense of what Bill Russell, the player and the person went through when he was in Boston. And It's amazing what he was able to do. Imagine being in a town that didn't really want you there. And his daughter, they would talk about that there were raccoons in the neighborhood because the garbage can always got knocked over. And Bill Russell went out and got a gun. And he said, we didn't have any more raccoons, because people were knocking over garbage cans. Didn't want him in that. I think he got to the key to a city, a town, but then people didn't want him to live there. But he got the key to this area that he lived in in the Boston area. But what he stood for and I mean, that's why when you look at the NBA with stats and key militia one is as good as anybody at blocking shots. You know, Mark Eaton was great. And there's quite a few dikembe mutombo down through the years. Nobody blocked more shots than Bill Russell did. Because they weren't even keeping those stats. Bill would say, you know, I'd have 15 blocks in a game. And if you watch the highlight, guys would be putting up shots. He'd block it. God put it up and get me block it. He could have three blocks on one possession. Sometimes. But what he endured, his family endured, and what he stood for, and they have a lot of archival footage of him at home as a dad, and just assembling that team. Do realize that the Celtics got Bill Russell because the owner of the Celtics said, I think he owned the ice capades, and he said to the owner, hopefully I'm getting this right. The Rochester royals do not take Bill Russell with your draft pick. And I will send the ice capades up to your city. Rochester, like once a year or something. And the Rochester royals didn't draft Bill Russell, red auerbach, manipulated that. So red, if you look at what red dim, he drafted Larry Bird a year early, nobody knew you could do that. He made the trade, Joe Barry Carroll, to Golden State and got Robert parish and then drafted Kevin McHale, and then the trade that got them Bill Russell. Got that

"A better word. Yeah, Todd. You're a distended instead of extended because you were dissed by the team. You didn't get that second deal so you're distended. Sounds like a stomach issue. Yeah. We say good morning to those on chat row and our radio affiliates around the country. LeBron out with a foot injury, don't know the extent of the injury, but right now they're looking at maybe two weeks, which might spell the end of the Lakers postseason hopes. LaMelo Ball breaks his ankle, he's done. The hawks have a new coach in Quinn Snyder, only one N and one in and Quinn. They just go, you know what? Let's leave the second and off Quinn. Just cue UI in. Save a lot of time. Yeah, I guess. Like there's certain people where they just have stopped with Todd. I took away one D from Todd one day. Just TOD. Yes, yes. The new owner of the sons is Matt with one team. What happened? Disturbing. Like, I'd team up. Successful guy, yeah. See what that? I like that. Yeah. That was clever. The NFL kanban is underway. And I mentioned this earlier, but get ready to hear all about Bryce young and that he is not even 5 11. I think is he 5, ten and a half, is that what he was listening to 6 foot during the regular season at Alabama. Todd mcshay with the height report, I'll put him at 5 ten and a half. How do you think he got that information? Do you think somebody snuck in and measured him when he was in his bed? That's good reporting, though. Or, you know, when you're younger and your mom or dad puts the little pencil mark at the door, you walk official measurement you're ever going to get. We never painted over those little pencil marks at the door. Let me just lift him up. Good stuff. Good times. All right, poll question, final hour there, seed O'Connor. What are we going to go with? We have a kind of an odd one. Well, not odd, but a funny one that Paul sent over a little bit before. Which scares me more. Quarterbacks under 5 11, NBA players with foot injuries. Or sharks. I guess you should answer it first. I'll go NBA players and foot injuries. That is just, you never hear about that working out well. I'm sure LeBron's gonna be okay, usually is. But sharks can be avoided. Well, you could put back injury for a golfer. Okay, good. And foot injury for a basketball player. That's a big short quarterback. I'm not a, you know, a highest when it comes to my quarterbacks. They don't have to be. It used to be, oh man, 6 5. He looks like he's a quarterback. Nobody ever looks at a quarterback who's 6 foot and go, man. He looks like a quarterback. It's always, well, he's only 6 feet. And I wonder if what happened to Russell Wilson and maybe Kyler Murray this year, do you cool off a little bit when it comes to these shorter quarterbacks here? Baker Mayfield. I just want to know, are you accurate? First of all, can you throw these passes in tight windows? And do you love playing the position? And we brought up Carson Wentz. I don't know if Carson Wentz loves playing football. I think he was really good at it, but you gotta love it. You get to a certain age where now it's more of a grind. You made your money. Now you've got to almost be reinvigorated and just say, you know, this is what I always admired about LeBron. Like every year, it was getting in shape, staying in great shape and being there and wasn't about load management. That he wanted to play. And I think that's probably because Michael Jordan wanted to play. And if LeBron is going to be compared to Mike, hey, he played all the time. Like Kobe, they didn't do load management. In the NBA has a real problem on their hands with load management. Because maybe, you know, we look at the regular season and it doesn't matter. And teams have had that approach, go back to the spurs. Gregg Popovich never cared that they had the best record in the NBA best record in the west, you can have home court advantage. He just wanted to make sure his players were ready for the most important games. Because of the priority we place on winning championships. It's about me winning a championship, not having my guys in every arena in the NBA. And that was his approach. Now, the NBA fined him that time when they didn't bring anybody to Miami, I think that one time. It's like, who did you bring? You know? Did you let ice gervin play in the game? Billy Paul? I think Gary Neil started that game. Gary nailed it. I think so. That's where you put up a career high. 'cause somebody has to in a situation like that. Yeah, Pauline. I wonder if anyone's ever looked at the NBA ratings overall in the load management era, because in the past ten years, if you go back ten years ago, NBA Finals games were at like 20 million plus viewers. Last year they were at about 12 million plus. And it doesn't seem like I'm looking back at this chart. It doesn't seem like a coincidence that I think it's had a cooling effect on the NBA that you don't know who's going to be on night tonight when you turn on TNT. You're like, well, oh, hey, cool. That guy's playing. When I see, I know Kawhi Leonard's head injuries. I don't think it's load match with him. But when I see Kawhi play, it's like an eclipse. He's shocked. 'cause there are times when you go, that's right, he. He's really good. It appears he has injuries. I want to be fair to him, but there's a lot of other guys that someone said it. You can't be more injured now than in the 80s and 90s. We have a much better medicine rest health and everything. So it seems like there's a lot of creative. Yeah, I think it's safe to say though that no one's load managing during the finals. No. So you're going to tune into the finals. It's pretty much a sure thing that the stars are playing. Yeah, but okay, what sport has had the biggest drop off in viewership when it comes to playing for your championship. Your title. I mean, the NFL every year it's 100 plus million people watching. College basketball, what March Madness used to be. Even though it's popular, how about the title game as opposed to 20 years ago? I'll give you one. The World Series. Look at what those numbers are. 11 years ago, ABC had the Dallas Mavericks Miami Heat. Now that's with LeBron. I know the factor's in. 24 million people watch game 6 the final game. Yeah, but that's LeBron and Dirk Nowitzki. Right. Yes. Take LeBron out of it. Which is hard to do. I know. Here we go back to the 90s. Yeah. But baseball had that drop off. I think college basketball with national title games has had a drop off. NBA Finals had a drop off. It's just football is so big. It's omnipresent there. All right, let me take a break. And we'll talk to Dave Roberts, Dodger manager, and we'll be back after this in the Dan Patrick show. Noticed in the mailroom yesterday, package came in. Panini America. Yep. Didn't get to see what was in the box that you got from panini. You didn't get to see what was in the box from panini. Yet? Okay. When am I going to see what's in the panini box? This week, this week. Yes. I need a little bit more window, a tighter window. You do. Yeah. Why is that? Tomorrow? Well, it's going to be sometime between now and Friday.

"We'll talk to the Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, get his thoughts on the new rule changes. The Atlanta Falcons have released Marcus Mariota. You know, you start to look at Mariota's career in the NFL and Jameis Winston's career. They went one, two, and they both had a couple of good years. So I don't know, do you get, we used to label these quarterbacks bus. I don't know if we do that as much anymore. Now, Mitchell trubisky, it was the a bust, you didn't re sign with his team. You didn't get the second contract with the bears. Jameis didn't get that. Marcus Mariota didn't get that. And if you're taking up that high, Zach Wilson, right now it looks like a bust. Trey Lance not quite sure, but could be headed in that direction. But I just remember the NFL was loaded with bus. When you look back and sometimes you were a good quarterback, went to a bad team, and they threw you into the fire right away, and you never recovered. Because I always thought David Carr was more talented that Derek Carr, but David played for a bad team. He got sacked more times than any other quarterback in the history of the sport. I think his first three years in the NFL. I think he got sacked at least 60 times. All three years. And he never was able to emerge as a really good quarterback. Which I thought he was. I thought he had tremendous potential there. But you have these quarterbacks, they're taken now. Jared Goff was he going to be a bust? He went to the Super Bowl. Well, they traded up to get him, and now he played great for the Lions. And now, I don't know if they take a quarterback, but Gino Smith with these mock drafts. This is where a mock draft does a disservice to a player. Because Gino Smith was number one. And that he didn't go in the first round. Therefore, he was already a bust because he didn't go in the first room. He wasn't the first quarterback taken. And then he eventually got his chance with Seattle, so can you label him a bust? If he's had this kind of comeback there, it's tricky at that position. And it used to be, not too long ago, where a team would draft a quarterback, and then have him watch. At least for a year, Carson Palmer did this, you know, mahomes did this with Alex Smith. Philip Rivers did this. That we're going to hold you back for a year. Aaron Rodgers, it was three years, but he had Brett Favre in front of it. But these quarterbacks now, we put you in there. You got to play right away. And a lot of these quarterbacks aren't wired the way mahomes is. And some of these other ones that come in after one year where they're watching. Or they come in right away. But a lot of these quarterbacks are playing in pro style offense is starting in high school. And calling their plays at the line of scrimmage, they're getting indoctrinated earlier and earlier, therefore the transition and a lot of quarterbacks will tell you. When you get into the league, just processing. How quickly do I process all of this? Here's the play, Linus scrimmage, I'm seeing coverage. Do I change the play? And then going through your progressions, that's really hard because Steve Young said this to me many, many times. When he first started with the niners because he played in Tampa Bay, played in the USFL, and he was able to rely on just his athleticism. His ability to run. He said, I get with the West Coast offense. And Bill Walsh would say, go through your progressions. Well, Steve would look one way and if Jerry Rice wasn't opening, he took off and ran. And he said, that was my progression. But once he learned to go, that's not there, that's not there. That's not there. Or that is there. And you have to do that in a span of about three seconds. That's where you go from, I got it. And athletes always talk about the game slowing down. Well, they slow it, it slows down for them because they've seen everything. All you do is take snapshots as an athlete. Like I've been in this position before. I've guarded this player. I've taken this shot. They're just snapshots in your memory. And that rolodex, like, okay, game on the line. I'm going to take this shot from the wing. Or I'm going to try to beat this guy. Whatever it might be. In the same with quarterbacks. They famously talk about how it slows down, it's still the same speed, but in your mind, you're able to slow it down. And that's where you see these quarterbacks go from being good to really good to great. And you know, we have the combine. I don't know if any of these quarterbacks are great quarterbacks. Will levis, I know Mel Kuiper loves him, but he loves him because he plays the position how Mel wants his quarterback to play the position. Drop back passer. Whereas rice young is not that. Anthony Richardson is not that. But CJ Stroud. I would just, you know, queue up the tape, CJ Stroud, Ohio State against Georgia. That's what I would just say, here you go. Tell me what you think about my abilities here. Because he could be the best quarterback in the draft. He's probably the best pure passer in the draft, according to an NFL scout. But we don't talk about his athleticism. Look at what he did against Georgia. Best defense in America. He didn't seem intimidated. Yeah, more. I just wanted to see if we could play a game during the NFL Draft. Okay. We drink every time we hear the word intriguing. Oh. Oh. Okay. That's a new term. All right. Like, he intrigues me. Anthony Richardson, I think we're going to hear the word intriguing or intrigued. At least 7 times. It's an intriguing prospect. 7 times. That's the over under? 6 and a half is the overriding. I'm gonna say, I'm gonna go with the over. Before he gets drafted. No, even when he gets drafted because they might say, you know what? Caroline finds him intriguing. Yeah. Okay. I don't even want to say potential that's too easy. Intriguing. Okay. Throw in intangibles and upside and we got something. Yeah. But do we hear player comp Anthony Richardson from Florida? Pat Mahomes. Dante culpepper. Oh, that's old school. Dante culpepper. Before he blew out his knee, Dante culpepper. Because it would be really rude to do it after he blew out his face. That's true. He's kind of like a post knee. Dante culpepper. Well, somebody gave this comparison. They were comparing a quarterback to who was it? The Georgia quarterback, a couple of years ago? No. The guy who was 25 years. What? That's embarrassing Ben junior the third. Somebody compared a quarterback to a younger stetson Bennett. They're all younger. I know. He reminds me of a younger stetson Bennett. Yeah, Pauly. So going back to Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston, we got to come up with a new term. If you don't get a second contract from your team, that means they didn't extend you, but it doesn't mean you're a boss. Marcus Mariota, he led the Titans to two playoff appearances. He had two seasons above 500. He was a 500 quarterback there. He had a season where he had 26 touchdowns and 9 picks. His stats are nice with them. And then he kind of cooled off. Jameis Winston never took the Tampa to a playoff appearance. But he had a season with 33 touchdowns, unfortunately also had 30 picks. His stats are bigger and better, but neither of them are pure busts in that Ryan leaf JaMarcus Russell didn't make it to year three bust window. Yeah. What?

Come down the home stretch of a Sunday night get together here on CBS Sports Radio. I'll stick around for another 15 minutes getting in Israeli calls as I can get aboard now I still got a couple open lined. You can get in before the show wraps and we exit stage left 855 to 1 to 4 to 27. My guy Dan from Danville Out there on the West Coast. Hello, Dan. Jodie Mack, Man. What's happening? How are you, pal? You know, doing really well. It's a high today of 97 degrees, and right now it's 90 degrees in the neighborhood. So everything is pretty good. This Labor Day weekend and my baseball really well. Ho ho ho. Hold on. Then why is Dave Roberts wearing a jacket in the Giants Dodgers dugout? Well, there's probably about a 25 degree difference where you're at and where they're playing baseball. How many miles are you from? Uh, we have the Giants and the Dodgers are doing battle right now. We'll call it 35 35 Miles and a 25 degree Different Okay? Alright If you tell me if you say so, I believe you. Hey, Mac Man, I appreciate the fact you're given my Niners, a 10 and seven record, but I think if you look at the wrecked a little bit or the teams, they have to play their schedule They They can possibly go 12 and five or 13 and four Outside of their own division, the West. They play the Packers, the Colts. And the Bears three teams that are capable of having winning records. After that, nobody else on the schedule is capable. You have them and you know, with low wind suit the rest of their divisions. And they played those three teams. Bye week eight. Understood. It's a tricky division and I think they're all going to be above 500. I I ran at that point, and I got all five of them above 500 winning, so that means if they're beating up on each other wise, I think it's going to be the case. Yeah, they're going to have very good out of division records. That's how they're going to get above 500 because they will do well out of their divisions. Yeah, but the thing about it is, I think everybody will split within the division. I don't think we'll take two from the Rams. I don't think they'll take two from us and vice versa with the other two teams, the Cardinals in the Seahawks. But at least one of peace and I think you know the schedule which really favorable for us. And I don't know what's going to happen with Justin Fields and heck, I don't even know his get out Garoppolo, but I think The schedule does look surprisingly pretty good from my football team, right. But Garoppolo is going to blow a game. At some point. It probably win a game with a superior play, but it's going to Paul Game. At some point. You know that I know that and then they're going to be screaming for trade lands who I just don't think is ready to be in every down quarterback in this league. I think he's got a chance to be real good down the road. I just don't think it's going to be this year. Alright. I got your 49 is schedule in front of me. Easy Start Detroit in Philadelphia before you got to play Green Bay. If we say they split all the debate in games cult and they got them at home. I don't really like the cult Chicago That's a game they can lose on the road. Jacksonville had to lay up Minnesota. Cincinnati. That's easy enough. And how did they get since tonight? That's their cross conference game is the 17th in Cincinnati. That is pretty easy. Maybe that's why they can finish ahead of L. A. And maybe I did short him a game. Um, techno willing to Tennessee. That's not an easy game. Um, and on the road, so that's when they could surely lose. Did you not include them in the team's You thought that they could lose too. Yeah, I start, you know, including that. I'm not saying that You know, they go on the road and something can happen or anything like that. I'm just going based on what? How you position these other teams, and there are other divisions and their other racist. That's that's how I'm going by. I think there's so Let's do this real quickly. Uh, if you go three and three in division Detroit is for Philly is five. Ah, Indianapolis at home. I'm going to give you that 16. Chicago. I'm companies are lots. Uh, Jacksonville's a win. That's how many were you up to? Three plus two plus Indianapolis is Six. Jacksonville seven Green Bay as a win right there playing no, no, no, no, no, no, no Green Bay. Green Bay is the best. We made the best team in the conference, given you Detroit and Philly both on the road, But you're significantly better than both of those teams. So if you go three and three in Division you Detroit, Detroit and Philly That's five You beat Indianapolis? That's six. You beat Jacksonville that seven. You beat Minnesota. That's eight. You lose. In Seattle, you beat Cincinnati. That's nine. You've got Atlanta and Houston. Damn. Maybe you do get to 11. I got you, 10. But maybe maybe you get to 11. 11. My football team is going to get to 11. We're going to beat Green Bay. Are you talking about, man? They're way better than Green Bay. Way better than Green Bay. I'd be I'd feel free to cover any of your action that Green Bay wins more regular season games because they get they get, you know, Homer. Oh, you are a homer, but he was worse. He makes Homer status. Uh, Hall of Fame homered status. Uh, we've had a couple of those here, including a giant panda checked in and thought that they were winning double digit games, too. I don't see that. Either. But I got you, 10. Maybe you get 11..

Dodgers’ Manager Dave Roberts Not Expecting Bauer Back After 7-Day Leave
"Could be on the bench for longer than previously thought. Manager Dave Roberts says he doesn't expect power to be on the mound in the coming days, even after his administrative leave it set to expire Friday, and they'll be benched him amid recent sexual assault allegations against him something the Pasadena Police Department is investigating. Matt Moreno is managing editor of Dodger Blue, the website of journalism about the Dodgers. He spoke to Kcrw's greater L A. About the allegations, at least for now is a little bit of, he said, she said, and I don't mean to kind of Make light of the situation at all. But You know, there isn't necessarily concrete that the police have been able to find yet, at least to my understanding. The Dodgers have taken criticism for not taking action themselves before MLB did, Merino says. That can be attributed to the collective bargaining agreements between teams and the Major League Baseball Players Association. Once MLB launches their

"The show here, we got some some breaking news coming out about Trevor Bauer. And you remember, of course, that last week, the first word from Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was that his hands were tied by MLB. And there were a lot of questions around exactly what kind of power manager has In a case like the Trevor Bauer is accused of sexual assault and battery. Whether or not he could volunteer Lee take them out of the lineup, or whether they would be potentially a grievance filed by the Players Association. If the MLB itself had not pulled him, then we saw leading up to the White House visit and a possible start yesterday that MLB did indeed. Decide to go on this seven day list to prevent him from playing while they further investigated And now we're hearing from Dave Roberts very different tune. Bill PLASCHKE is going to join us out from the LA Times with the latest Bill. Tell us what you heard from Dave Roberts today. And what do you think That means about Trevor Bowers future with the team. Well, I think it's future with the team. His immediate future with the team is in jeopardy. Roberts today backed off of his statement last week and said he didn't see him playing again when, when the suspension when they leave. The absence ended on Friday. And because I think they obviously didn't want him starting at Dodger Stadium in front of, you know, in front of it. What would surely be doing fans and a horrible situation? So I think I think The bigger issue here is baseball. Is continue to investigate and they need more time and I think the union is going to give them more time because there's probably probable reason for more time We're hearing you're looking into prep Trevor bars past We're looking into all everything about him, which they probably should have come before they signed him, but which the baseball is looking at everything and investigating everything. And I think that this shows the investigation is a lot more serious. Then maybe some people thought and that you know it's going to extend it will extend to the All Star break for sure, Dave. I think then we'll see what we'll see What happens. I mean, there is a there is a to me There is a legitimate question. As of Dave Roberts. Comments today is whether the Trevor Bauer ever pitched the Dodgers again. Do we have a sense of what made Dave Roberts changed his tone from the last time he was asked about it. Obviously, baseball investigators and Dodger. People have told him that this investigation is serious. I mean, what he said last time. I don't believe him for saying what he said last time because because the union controls everything. The the doctor's hands were tied. It didn't agree 100% true. I mean, there is a possibility in the likelihood of a grievance if they had elected to do something, But there are any number of instances where teams have elected to do so and been willing to face the possibility of a grievance, believing that they were acting in the in the right way, so he was not prevented from doing so, right? Yeah. Yeah, but I think they would have made Trevor bar into some kind of a of a of a hero for the Union union people and didn't want to that. They just didn't. I just think the union would have come down really hard on him, And I think they stay there. I think I think they really had no, they really have. No, we have a collective bargain agreement. That's part of it. You know, the bad thing about baseball union so strong. Astrology in in sports, and you know who knows what they would have done, so I don't blame him for, he said in the beginning, But obviously now he's changed his to him because he's learned as as work as we are guessing that baseball The investigation is continuing, and it's serious enough to continue and it's serious enough to keep keeping mouth that mayor and for at least another week or two. And who knows who knows if it'll be longer or not? But I think the Dodgers again I think their hands were really tied on this one because of the unions of power because they don't want believe me, if they could do it over again. I know this and I've talked to people over there. They will never assigned them. They realize now what they've done. And they realized now the trouble he's caused. Bill PLASCHKE is with us here on Spain and fist, and I think this is yet again the millionth time where all of the vetting that a team has claimed to do has not been complete and or they've decided that things will be different when we know that he's notorious for harassing women online. He's mocked people who identify as trans or non binary. He had a massive temper tantrum and humiliated himself, throwing the ball over the center field fence. As he's getting pulled from a game back with the Indians. He nearly took off a finger on his pitching hand before the biggest game of his life and wasn't able to compete. He has a history. None of those things mean that he's guilty in this case, but they all come together. To form a character study of somebody that to your point, the Dodgers decided to insert into a winning line up. We're kind of running out of time here, but just a final thought Bill from you. What is the reaction if they just say Whoops. Our bad and this is it for Bauer with the Dodgers. I think people would have out here would applaud them would embrace them for that. And they be eating about $100 million, But you know what? They make that much. I mean, it's how much what price integrity. What price character. What price are you going to have, you know, to have a team that stands for a city that Represents the city. I think they would be embraced for that. If they cut him off right now. That would be such a big move a big, gutsy move a costly move, but it would be the right move. Well, thanks so much for the time. I know we got you last minute. Really Appreciate you coming on. Thank you, Bill. You guys are great. Thanks for having me. Bill PLASCHKE on with us here on Spain and fits and pizza will say this much right? Like I do think I agree with bill that their hands were tied, and there was a potential that the Players association would consider Bauer a sympathetic figure and push even harder for his rights being violated by them making that decision, But we've also seen at any given moment managers of teams. Be allowed to make decisions about players because of being late to a flight because of fighting with a teammate in the dugout because they have a preferable match up a week later, so they adjust their start time. Everyone would know why this was happening, but they could conceivably argue on behalf of their decision making and why it was so necessary and maybe win that grievance, and that might have been worth it because instead what you have is a team It's sullied its own name and a manager who looked weak in an important moment and the cascade of condemnation from Ken Rosenthal and clashed in other baseball writers, saying You cannot send him to the White House and put them on the mound on Sunday, finally moved the hand of baseball, which allowed you know Dave Roberts to act in kind that shouldn't be required, and I think it might be a lesson to them on how times have changed and how people are going to react..

Everyone sat there and looked at coming off the great season last year. And expecting you guys to cruise in the west. But you've been beat up because of injuries and you've been able to to mainly hang in there and you're in the u in the throes of a pretty significant race in the west. Where's your team right now. We're we're we tell surf i i. I think that with everything. That's happened We're kinda right where we need to be and our guys We're looking forward to this. Grind i think that this when you get into the middle of the summer the dog ages. We'd like to call it. I think that this separates You know that old adage cream rises to the top. Kershaw a guy who obviously you're familiar with in terms of all that he is contributed to the dodger organization. Where is he right now. How is he feeling confidence. Wise with all his pitches. And what do you expect going forward for the rest of the season He's in a great place Physically mentally and i think his pitch mix i. I think that he's introducing the change of a little bit more Obviously that curve balls are part of things and then the slider he has really good feel for and the fastball command so he has a lot of weapons right now. didn't have a great one. The last time he face the cubs in wrigley. So i i'm sure he remembers that But right now those guy he's a race face of our organization and He's gonna come and bring that intensity like we all know and love you guys had it amazing dramatic walk off win yesterday with bellinger and of course the crowd going crazy. Those are the moments right. I mean that's what was missing last year for for so much. Was it special in a spotlight. Bellinger everybody's ripping the jersey off. You gave them a big giant hug energy that you missed from the fans and all the dodger fans right it is. It is and we've been sold out here every game since we've been at full capacity and you know the fans have been a long time for moments like that and you know players. They played with emotion but they feed from the fans. And so for for cody favorite to walk off the cubs You know one of america's favorite teams and and a national televised game and the fans got to enjoy forty nine thousand people get see a former. Mvp walk off the cubs and it was a special moment. Our players did it. And i think for me as a manager to see cody Wanna come in and a double switch on an off day to take a couple of best and then to win a game for me is very satisfying also and the fans get a chance to watch a truly great team night in and night out last thing. I want to ask you about you. Go back to your time with the dodgers. You're sitting there on the bench. Just random game you look to your right. It's david ross. You look to your left. It's alex cora if you would turn to. Both of them had said you know the three of us will be managed in the big leagues probably in about eighteen nineteen years. It looked like it might be a foul ball within it just completely straightened out from the dugout vantage point. Um and carried and we kind of got the feeling that it was going to be a homer. Yeah, I think we all got the field. It was going to be over the second, he started walking up the line to first days. Barry Bonds style. One more here from Game capital. I think about cap where all the time and all the moments that he has spent in the big leagues and all the great teams. He's been a part of you think about the The 2004 Red Sox game capture was on that roster when Big Poppy shouldn't walk off home runs against the Yankees. Down down three. Oh, he's on that Red Sox bench when Dave Roberts steal second base, and everybody in Fenway Park knows that he's going to steal and they still couldn't get him out or help. Assad is still looking for a for a sharper throw down to second base. Pretty damn pretty damn good throw, but Dave Roberts barely gets in there and and Moe didn't hold him on his as well as maybe he thought he would. Everyone knew he was going and he was safe, anyway, Cap. We're talking about the emotion of This game in his career, saying that as far as games he's been a part of or wins. So far, you know the play ball this year or the Red Sox, who has more long term, you know, ability this season to make it interesting with one of those two clubs. I would say the Red Sox because, you know, they always have that long money. When I said long money, they could make it. Difference. As far as if you're in that race, you go get a stud pitcher, stud relieve or a big bat. I like Alex Cora's and energy. He knows how to win a championship and he knows what his team needs and how to fire him up. So I would give the Red Sox see edge. But don't count on the Giants, too, Man. They got a team that swinging the bat pretty well. And they're starting pitching has been outstanding. I think they're about ah, year or two ahead of schedule, but if they continue to pitch the way didn't do it. I'm gonna be in this race here. Here's in, junior, uh, you want a world series of the Yankees? You played for a long time with the Dodgers. Your associate ID widely of the Dodgers, because your Dodgers analyst and you spend a lot of time in the West Coast. But you also played with Cubs and you're from the Chicago suburbs. You from neighbor Ville. I knew you're gonna bring this. I know. I know you knew I did. So, my cubby, so I don't think you're very good. Sweep the Dodgers do you like? Are you watching that game? And you like fist pumping the Cubs, like, Come on cubbies, or you are. You're like, Where does your heart going? Those moments. The Dodgers pay my check, bro. I finished back here with the dog. I gotta brush and I grew up. I grew up as a Sox fan, even though I did play for the couple. I always root for the cubs because I have friends over there still. Make no mistake about it. I was rude for the Dodgers this past series, but big credit to the Cubs Man. They've played a really good baseball of late the last week or so they're starting to swing the bat. Anthony Rizzo, Chris Bryant there back to swing the background like they didn't On 16 17. So if they continue to swing the bat like that, we're gonna make some noise. I'm Justin May that injury is such a bummer for that, dude. And just what an incredible, incredibly talented pitcher But you still have a Dodgers starting rotation. That is, It's so stupid. How low did they are? Even with Dustin may going away, obviously, for for the season, the offenses is loaded. The degree to which you're worried about the Dodgers. Is it zero. Is it 1%? I mean, what do you view? What's your view on the Dodgers in the long term this season? Your long term. I still think the Dodgers have the best rotation in baseball, You know, even with the loss of Destin, may we have a young kid Joe SIA Gray, who I think is going to be a part of the rotation very soon. He just dealt last night in Triple A. They got Trevor Bauer Walker Bueller Furious, and, obviously Clayton Kershaw, so Any time you have a rotation like that, I'm confident the loss of dust. It may hurt. You know, on a couple of fronts, he was starting to figure things out. You know, he's a three pitch pitcher last year, just a one pitch pitcher. He has excellent breaking ball and he really sure development cutter and for him to be lost. It's just sad because he was starting to figure it out. And just I hurt for the kid because he works extremely hard. And just not being able to see him pitch Definitely gonna hurt. Jerry stands coming coming around in New York, and it's a long season. The Yankees pitching staff. The outside of that one. Ace isn't exactly the stuff that at least right now strikes fear into the hearts of hitters. Do you have the same feeling of the Yankees? Do you think New York's going to be a top that division and one of the contenders come? I don't know. August I do especially way Jean Carlo Standard swing the bat. He looks healthy, and if he stays healthy, he's an M v. P candidate..

Still but number one overall pick fierce dunker yeah slashing small forward i mean just look at the difference between him and his his own team places position. The small forward position kevin durant. I mean is there any scenario where you have blake griffin on the floor rather than kevin durant especially since we all we've seen this slide over the last fifteen years you take these big men their physical that should dominate inside the protect the ram. That should play great defense and they don't do any of that blake griffin is a pece zero for the new nba. Big like they accepted six seven And again he doesn't dunk the ball. He's a liability on the defensive side of the ball at brooklyn's got liabilities on the defensive side of the ball so This is a splashy. Move for blake. I would think that. MLB awards: Finalists unveiled for Manager of the Year
"The fact that MLB started doing this naming the three finalists. Am I telling you for the past couple of years, and they've they've announced the finalists for the major awards day towards being handed out next week Monday. Next Monday, is Rookie of the year man to the years next Tuesday. Cy Young is on Wednesday and then m V P, of course, is on Thursday. So to me, the most interesting one is the manager of the year, especially in the American League and usually like man who cares, But I think it's very interesting because The three guys who they've picked in the American League to be the manager of the year. One of them is Kevin Cash, who had a fantastic regular season but has been blasted for one managerial movie made in the World Series, which was taking Blake snout too early. Yeah, he pulled a Dave Roberts. Yeah, and it makes no sense to me at all. Why he would do that, And he's going to say it's the analytics. But if you look at the numbers Blake they're actually the third time through the lineup is better than he is the second time through the lineup. And he was making them look ridiculous. Absolutely. I mean, it was. It was just stupid. How bad they looked any just struck out the top three guys in the orders twice. So that means none of them had made contact Justin Turner. Mookie Betts. Corey Seager had made zero contact, and that's the Yoon said Betts doesn't swing and miss. He makes contact and he was he made. That's look ridiculous. He absolutely didn't know that. But this year better actually hit worse against lefties. Entity is right. But that's beside the point. Yes, so Kevin Cash is one Of the three managers. Charlie Montoya. The Bluejays is another one, which I think is great. And I think it's hilarious that the third manager of the heirs, Rick Renteria, who is no longer manage manager, he was relieved of his job. So we have a guy who made a horrible managerial decision guy who's no longer managing, then you're trying. Montoya.

Los Angeles Dodgers win World Series, but also become super spreaders of the virus?
"They won with a powerful lineup. But did they risk turning the world Siri's into a corona virus super spreader into a super spreader event? It Let's let's talk about the good things for a Shall we then Los Angeles Dodgers win the World Series first time since 1988 and had been a long time coming in a lot of failed a lot of false starts at the beginning of this decade in terms of winning So many division titles and just sputtering in the playoffs, losing to the infamous Houston Astros in the 2017 world, serious getting beaten by the Red Sox in 2018, and this time they were great. They were fantastic. Even Clayton Kershaw that everyone talked about couldn't get the monkey off of his back. He comes out and wins. Two games in the series, and it was great for them. I think that they they did it the way that great teams are supposed to. They scored more than half of their runs with two outs. Everyone's looking for all that clutch. All those clutch performances and the Dodgers really did come through. They were They were fantastic. Even with the crazy game for 87 collapse that we thought was going to turn the Siri's around in a different direction tied it, too. But at the very At the next turn, The Dodgers come back and they never look back. They are champions, and they very much deserved it. Even though it was an eight game season. It was very much Before playoffs and everything else. Yeah, it's it's a legit championship. But but but but but Justin Turner removed from the game because it was positive for Corona virus. He returned for a celebration often mask lists hugging people. He sat next to Dave Roberts, the manager who is a cancer survivor, and therefore more at risk. How How do you finish that sentence? How do we characterize this? Well, he characterizes as a massive massive Hey, irresponsibility on the part of Justin Turner on the part of the Dodgers and certainly on the part of Major League baseball, even though Major League Baseball has tried to get out in front of this by laying the blame at the feet of Justin Turner, and it is his responsibility. However, I have a hard time believing that that he was allowed to play with an inconclusive test, so they took him off of the field after the test was Was found to be positive. But if you have an inconclusive test, how do you let him play in the first place? And so everyone's going to take responsibility for this, But this is what we're seeing across the board were seeing this at the University of Florida with all of their positive test. We're seeing it with the big 10 as well on the Big 10 had made the decision earlier not to play, and then they got bullied by the president into playing, and now they're canceling games. This is the thing Scott we talked about this months ago. Everyone saw this coming, but this country has just made a decision not to care about it. And, of course, the discussion of the weak. Ah, Kevin Cash, the Tampa manager, pulling Blake smell Blake Snell, Tampa Cy Young Award winning pitcher after he struck out nine after just 5.5 innings because of analytics. Tampa lost with almost the next pitch as this decision become emblematic of these over analysed times. Well, absolutely. But I had a revelation during this world serious guy and I think I've always known it, but it it wasn't crystallized until watching this. I don't watch baseball or I don't watch sports for wins and losses. I watch sports for competition. And this this thing they did not let Blake smell compete. And this happened at a time. When look at who we lost during this baseball season where you've lost the great picture, Whitey Ford, you lost the great competitor, Bob Gibson. And these players, they're legends come from competition, and if you're not going to let a player compete, what is the purpose of being a Cy Young Award winner? You're not even going to be allowed to have these classic championship moments. If they pull you out of the game. This is why we watch in baseball. At least the Tampa Bay Rays took that away from us. Howard Bryant of ESPN Well said, Thanks so much. Thank you.

MLB investigating after Justin Turner ‘refused to comply’ with officials during Los Angeles Dodgers celebration
"To talk about. Ah, what happened to Justin Turner? He was pulled in the eighth inning of the game last night because of a positive Covad test. What did the Dodgers know? And when did they know it? Yeah, So it's It's a a interesting situation. The way that is kind of shaken out is the players were getting tested daily while they were in the postseason bubble. In Turner's test on Monday, producing inconclusive result, which MLB was alerted to during Game six. And so they asked the lab in Utah to expedite The test results on the sample he provided Tuesday. And that is the one that then came back positive as soon as they will be found out. They relate it to Andrew Friedman of the Dodgersfront office, who then pass the message along to Dave Roberts. That You know? Hey, Justin Turner has to come out of this game right away. And it's the exact timing isn't clear. You know, they weren't gonna necessarily stop The game. If there was, you know, one or two outs in the seventh inning, but obviously we saw you know when the ending kind of turned over for the start of the eighth, he was replaced by Edwin Rios. We're getting a statement today but by major league baseball, by the way, this is according to the times that they are investigating. Now, Turner Um MLB, saying that that he quote emphatically refused to comply. When league security raise the matter to him about returning to the field to celebrate. We saw pictures of him. We saw him in a mask, and then we saw him without a mask. We saw him with his wife and the trophy. So the investigation, I guess is beginning in Major League baseball. We've seen that there have been no additional positive tests have come back among Dodgers or raise players. More testing is scheduled For today. And in the coming days.

World Series Game 6: Rays decision to pull Blake Snell immediately backfires
"Kevin cash taking up. Blake, Snell in the sixth inning last night with one and one out and a one nothing lead snow had been brilliant to that point no runs no walks nine strikeouts. The move backfired immediately the dodgers got two quick runs off Nick Anderson added another later in the game on a home run by Mookie Betts and won the world series. We'll bond. Can you defend what cash did? No And I don't WanNa hear anybody else tried defended either because some things are just indefensible and this is one of them Tony I I'm offended by what I saw last night just somebody who grew up on baseball whose I love and sport was baseball played baseball pitch and just offensive. So numbers are so important to you Kevin cash that you can't use your eyes which is supposed to be professionally trained and steeled, and you've been benched coach and manager then all these days and you don't know when you need to leave the guy alone you. WanNa, take the game away from the players take the game away from a starting pitcher whose lights out who the other team is. Now, not afraid of going Oh my God is shaking their heads and you don't have the baseball since in you to leave him alone and ride your good fortune to have this guy going this. Well, totally I was in contact via text with a couple of former recent former notable major league baseball players, and they were as startled about this development as I was and I just couldn't. No. There's no defending it. Yeah I'M GONNA. Give it a shot at defending human I'm going to preface it by saying if we don't learn from history, we're always going to be doomed to repeat it Kevin. Cash. Has Seen Blake Snell. He has managed Blake Snell for years. Now he's seen them all year. He hasn't gone through the sixth all year I'm going to read from my notes Ziara in these playoffs in the first four innings where he's been great as one point three, five from then on it's twelve point five, six last week Snell no hit the dodgers for four and two thirds and Then, in rapid order walk homer walk single and cash has seen all of this the last guy up before he gave him, the Hook was the ninth patron, the order, and he hit a rope to center field, and now at this point you've got bets and you've got SEGER coming up for a third time. The mistake isn't Yanking Snell to me the mistake is putting in Anderson Innocence the wrong guy in the regular season he's lights out but in the playoffs is over five and Mike and his last six appearances, he's allowed to run I I I understand that Kevin? Is. An. Easy target and a totally legitimate target. I just think in this case, he had seen Snell all year and the hulk wasn't as bad as what he did home. You're not playing lifetime achievement. You're playing the damn game tonight right? You is your sense of everything. This is your livelihood I don't care what he did last week. This guy has given up one hard hit ball maybe a second heart. It Ball. Alright. So yes, you got what you're saying about bringing a guy in who's been lit up lately I don't WanNa go that far I don't care who he had going warmed up. You have got a guy on the mound that has the other people in the other Doug. If you're a manager the time we know you're watching them to and they are shaking their heads when they walk back to. The dugout he has stymied them. If you're not smart if all you're doing is playing probability Tony, then go work at the win in Vegas I don't WanNa see you near a baseball diamond. So let me go back into this for a second because it's something we'll have to live with if he never wins forever in the way that great little does the way the Darryl bevill does. Making these what appear to be bonehead calls but I would tell you Dave Roberts said the same thing with Clayton Kershaw he let him pitched to two batters in the sixth inning whenever it was and he knew that Ziara after a certain point was bad and he took them out to protect him and to make sure the dodgers won that game I think managers do this I don't. You know I'm not crazy about analytics I don't WanNa take an anti intellectual viewpoint here that I think that certain people it's absurd managers rely too much on numbers and not enough on you but I think the mistake was who he put in not what we took out. One of the guys I was texting with last night we might be said half the front office is in baseball would have done this and it's not just a managers front office last night was bad night for Baseball Tony. You could say baseball's we at five. We know better than somebody even most cases who's twenty five years old. It's a sad night for baseball that a guy pitching a masterpiece. What are you take? You defendant Kevin Casting Colfax or Gibson? That's the kind of performance. This guy was spinning last night and he took them out and it's a sad night. It's a sad night for baseball I don't care how anybody who wants to defend it or painted even Kevin cast I don't care what he has to say.

But he says he feels fine and he was seen celebrating on the field after the game. And you know, tiny. My first memory of baseball was that 1988 Siri's, with Kirk Gibson, famously pumping his fists around the bases. So it has been a while for Dodger fans. Yes, and from my house last night in so Cal, All you could see was fireworks in the sky as Angelenos celebrated this long awaited victory.

Los Angeles Dodgers' Justin Turner pulled mid-game during World Series win after positive Covid-19 test
"Win three one, win the series and six, but being completely overshadowed one of the grandest franchises in sports winning the World Series Championship after three decade plus drought is being overshadowed by one player having to leave the game doing a positive corona virus tests and that is just turner but that is also so twenty twenty Jeff Passan is with us this morning Jeff have little more details on what went on that allowed Turner to be on the field for the post game celebration. Hasn't been nothing really allowed him to be on the field. He just chose to be field and nobody was going to drag off after he won the world series. He essentially said I'm going out there and nothing's GonNa stop me I want to pose with the trophy I wanna be with my teammates I want to choose celebrate like somebody WHO's won the world series for the first time and nothing was gonNA stop him and the fallout from that we're GONNA see over the next couple of days hopefully there. Are No other positive corona virus tests on the Los Angeles dodgers. But you know that all remains to be seen as does how they're going to get back to Los Angeles. When they're going to go back, there are a lot of questions still jeff. I don't put this on Justin Turner nor do I put this on the dodgers but how big of an indictment is this on the MLB? They're the ones that pulled him from the game in a there's the one that told him he needs to quarantine. When we see these Leagues Have Championship Games. There are people in the League office who were their security from league offices are there where where is the MLB and all this? Well I think the security tried to stop him from going on there but he you know this is a guy who's covert positive. So is security going to put their hands on him or are they GONNA to? Contract the virus themselves probably not, but they they didn't stop it from going out there and they did remove them and I. Think Rob Manfred got some questions answer about how that happened about what protocols were in place and why they weren't followed. Let me ask you this Jeff Obviously La in second biggest market for Major, League baseball outside of New York in the Yankees Major League Baseball don't want the headline story to be about covert the day after the second biggest market had just won the championship. Course not but I think regardless of weather. Justin Turner went onto the field or not it was going to be pretty interesting part of the story I. Think the fact that he did go back out there makes it a much bigger story now because there are questions, why did he go back out there? How did he go back out there? Who allowed him back out there? How did they not stop it? Jeff what are what are you hearing around the league this early morning about his teammates embracing the fact that he was able to join them for big celebration. GonNa go on up checks message here that I got from general manager. It's A super spreader event on live. TV. Welcome to twenty twenty. And I'M GONNA PULL UP A. Dm I got from an active player isn't here. Now it's nice, but essentially it's What the F. is going on. And that's kind of a thought around baseball and yet. You guys were players let let's put you in that same situation you gotten cut. Seven years ago, and this organization gave you a chance you blossom into an all-star to guy who gets MVP vote someone who's made fifty million dollars somebody who's a leader in the clubhouse and is seen as one of the voices and wants to celebrate this thing that he has worked so hard to celebrate. Would you have gone back out there As a teammate I'm okay with it I don't know if it was me dead had tested positive. I. Don't know because it would had to have happened in the moment and I would have probably responded reacted to my teammates, my coaches in people around me if they was embracing situation most likely I would have joined. But if Jay Wheel for instance is tested positive and he's my teammate I'm. Come on man we me. Yeah this is so subjective Jeff because I'm different I would have wanted to celebrate with my teammates. I just would've wore masks I would have done it differently but. turnage Justin Justin Turner did wear a mask out originally, but there were a couple of instances where cameras got him. He was talking to his wife taking pictures with her gave her a kiss mask was off and he was sitting down on the field for the team picture. To his left was the championship trophy to his right was Dave Roberts the dodgers manager who ten years ago was diagnosed with Hodgkin. Lymphoma. So He's a cancer survivor. He's the person who has a pre existing condition and Justin Turner daybreak spoke for mascots at that point now Dave Roberts told Fox later on I think it was something to the effect that I didn't touch him. but you know he was he was in the same vicinity wasn't for fifteen minutes wasn't close contact defined by CDC but the optics on it as Andrew Freedom and the president of baseball operations says not good.

Los Angeles Erupts As Dodgers Win First World Series Championship In 32 Years
"I WANNA zoom out here now on the dodgers as this franchise because this was their first championship in thirty two years and I was watching Dave Roberts and putting aside all of the Cova. Complications it was hard not to feel something for that guy and it was hard to feel something for this organization N. This fan base and this city. So what did you make of the dodgers finally getting over? This. Particular Hump, you know I think that Dave Roberts has been a guy who at times has been rightly maligned for his decision making but the decision making that will stick with me from this postseason has to do with two pitchers Clayton Kershaw in Julio. Arenas Dave Roberts twenty four hours before he won a world series championship got booed by a crowd that was almost entirely dodger fans at a neutral site stadium. It was a really weird thing. This guy who's got all these supposed demons and October's getting a standing ovation coming off the field. For for people who think he should have stayed in the game it was just a very bizarro situation and you know what I think Dave? Roberts. made the right move there. And people are always going to say process over outcome process over outcome raised died on that mantra and. Dave Roberts lived on it. He ended up going with Julio Arias for the last three innings of the clincher in the S. In the last three innings of the clincher in the world series he had Clayton Kershaw and Kenley Jansen, his two rocks out in the bullpen ready and willing to go and he said now I'm a stick with a kid who's pitching. He stuck with the guy who looked good and that is one thing that Kevin cash did not do. And there's an argument to be made. That they lost the world series because of that. And then you look at Julio. Maria Standing There Austin Barnes catching that call third strike in grabbing the ball with his right hand and stuffing in his back pocket. That's history in his back pocket right there and the celebration that came afterward and all of the madness and weirdness and oddity of two thousand twenty being wrapped up in such a perfect though.

Justin Turner celebrates Dodgers' World Series-clinching win on field despite mid-game positive COVID-19 test
"Jeff Passan you are somewhere in Arlington Texas right now it is one thirty eight am eastern time. So where exactly are you and I guess what's the last hour of your life been like? I don't know where I am right now Jeff. Passan covers baseball for ESPN and has been unbanned from this podcast after planting the Randy Arosa Raina Song in all of our brains last week. I'm I'm living in I'm living in Corona virus hell right now because I- Pablo I've been covering baseball for seventeen years now I have seen the Boston Red Sox win their first world series eighty, six I've seen the Chicago cubs win their first world series in one, hundred, eight years and I'm not sure that I've seen anything is crazy as what happened after the Los Angeles dodgers won their first world series in thirty two years tonight I mean let's get right into this then because what was the weirdest baseball season ever has ended with the weirdest world series after ever say and there's a great game to dissect here but. It's really hard to bury the lead of Justin, Turner the dodgers star Third Baseman getting pulled some time after his third at bat in that game because he had apparently tested positive for covert, and then a bunch of other stuff happened Jeff and that's where you come in. So what the Hell happened I was scrambling as all of this was going on Pablo because Fox, right after the dodgers won the world series announce on their broadcast that Justin Turner had tested positive for Covid nineteen but we started this show is some breaking news after the completion the game tonight we are informed by Major League baseball that Justin Turner received a positive Cova test. That's why he was removed from the game. We have no other details at this time I get the word that, yes, he had tested positive and the way that the story was told to me was that Major League baseball does one corona virus tests per day four players who were in the bubble and for family members and everybody else. That test from Monday got SENT TO THEIR LAB IN UTAH. The tests were run and they came back late that and Turner's tests was the only one that was inconclusive and as the inconclusive result for Justin, Turner had come back right around that same time the tests from today that had been taken had arrived in Utah. Now, they were getting ready to spin the sample of Justin, Turner from Monday to to retest it and see if there were. Any different results, but they said, forget that test, the one that came in today the results came back in about two hours around the seventh inning at which point a positive had been confirmed and immediately Major League Baseball was informed of this called. The Los Angeles dodgers. It was fed into the dugout and Justin Turner was pulled from the game and told to isolate. Justin Turner. Did Not isolate and that's and that's that's the part Pablo that I think so many people are going to remember from this. The very odd seen on the field where Justin Turner at one point is taking a team picture with the Los Angeles dodgers and he's sitting next to Dave Roberts his manager who also was not wearing a mask can who is a cancer survivor? After he had tested positive for Covid nineteen I, think people out in the world saw that and said what in God's name is going on here. I was one of those people out in the world in my living room like so many others in their living rooms wondering wait a minute. This is a very sophisticated game with many protocols. How did Justin Turner get cleared to be out on the field doing all the things you just mentioned? Justin Turner. Did Not get cleared Justin Turner just wanted to go celebrate with his friends with his teammates with his wife who I saw a picture of him kissing on the field and with all of the people who he won this championship with I had a GM text me as this was going on. And he said, is there a super spreader event going on at the World Series Right now? And it's it's not an unreasonable question to ask now Justin Turner did say in a tweet that he's not feeling any symptoms that he's doing. Alright. So bats great to hear, but it's not like. This is the Los Angeles dodgers team Pablo that hasn't had issues with covid Nineteen

The Latest: Kershaw, Dodgers take Game 1 over Rays
"Vast fox sports radio networking glad you have chosen to spend A couple minutes with us and there is no debate. There is no debate where we begin this night, a radio the fall classic surfing the Blue Wave Cowabunga Dod's the Fall Classic, starting in a neutral site. Kind of on Tuesday night with Joe Buck every night, you get ajob of game and John Smalls calling the game on Fox. Did you watch? Maybe not will see that I don't imagine the ratings will be very good for this Thegame was lopsided in there's one team that has a fan base and another one that doesn't a national fan base for the Dodgers. Put on a pyrotechnics show. It was like the Fourth of July. Boom Bang Bam! The Dodger offense When Cody Bellenger Mookie Betts hit homeruns Clayton Kershaw mowing down Tampa haters like it was an April started Dodger Stadium on by the time The damage he'd done. Ella ended up spit roasting the raise 8 to 3 and Game one of the 2020 World Series for the Dodgers Get a leg up on the best of seven series now three wings away. From their first championship as a franchise since 1988 When Ronald Reagan was the president, Tommy Lasorda was waddling in the dugout and Kurt Gibson got wanted bat and hit a home run and is at all time legend because of that, as a Dodger, So let us discuss the question. What are your big takeaways? From Game one of the World Series, a domination situation for the Dodgers. So I've got the white whale hand grenades and Smurfs and we will tie all these things together. Now we talk about the World Series. Game one. You start with us. Accounts on Lee is just one game. It doesn't matter that much in the big picture. It's only one game. However. I'm going to disagree with that statement because the feeling that one gets watching Game one of the World Series from the Dodgers side of things. It's like hitting a two team parlay. It doesn't seem like a one win situation. Night, so don't undersell the importance of a game one win for Los Angeles and I'll tell you why. Because the Dodgers winning a Clayton Kershaw playoffs start As easy as a B C. 123. Is not something that happens very often, right. You feel like you dodged a bullet when you win a Kershaw game in the playoffs in a big play off game, Kershaw has been the dog with fleas in the postseason. And while many of my colleagues on television like to downplay Clayton Kershaw's missteps on radio, we don't do that We don't his World Series resume coming in. I would have him in the bread line. If that was his resume. What into an E? R. A of over five he had pitched in 26 2 3rd innings given up 16 earned runs. Over four starts in five games. But on this night, it reminded and voice in my head. It was Dick Stockton, who told me years ago stats tell you what has happened. They don't tell you what's going to happen. And that was a vintage regular season type of Kershaw performance. And you see that in a big play off game as often as you see a white whale swimming around the ocean, right? Clayton Kershaw got 38 swings. 19. Mrs. He had a whiff rate of 50%. Now the stat geeks tell us that that is the highest Of Clayton Kershaw's career, whether it be the postseason or the regular season that half the time it was S O matter, Miss. That is what's known as flexing your muscles, and it wasn't just Kershaw. Cody Bellenger, Mookie Betts. Max Muncy all had big days. The conga line kept moving. You keep pressure on your opponent 10 hits, they got seven walks. The Dodgers drew seven walks and, more importantly than that. They actually hit when they had runners in scoring position. They batted 3 57 on this day with runners in scoring position. They were five out of 14 follow the ways and is a key. You follow the wisdom often, American legend Will Rogers You never get a second chance to make a first impression. The Dodgers they made their first impression. Now you've got to back that up. You have backed that up in Game two in Game three, but you only played one game and the Dodgers the more talented team they didn't play down to their competition. They played like they were the superior opponent in this matchup. We certainly hope that continues were slightly biased on this now. Part B. If you would like to knit pick That's one of these. We get paid to do hear on the radio. Always to pick apart things in micro analyze. Dave Roberts fell back into some old analytical principles. We were hoping that his gut feeling managerial move. The other night would continue. It did not in this game, managing Clayton Kershaw. For Dave Roberts is like juggling hand grenades. One wrong move one wrong move and your head gets blown off. And I understand partially what Roberts is thinking. Because when I'm watching Clayton Kershaw, I'm thinking, OK, Here's where it all falls apart goes to hell right here, right. This is going to be the inning. It all goes to crap. In a playoff situation. But on this night Kershaw he was dealing He'd only thrown 78 pitches. Through six innings. And ah, very effective there. The Rays hitters were completely flummoxed against Kershaw as we gave you some of the numbers there of 50% with weight, and despite the Dodgers having a huge advantage there up eight tow one. They, Roberts Arbitrarily said. That's it. We're going to take you out of the game. I'd rather take you out of half inning. Too early, then a half inning too late. So that brought in Dillon Florio, who wasn't good and then and then Roberts panic because the Rays attempted the pin shit G may enjoy And so Roberts ran out of the dog and I got to make a change. I

No knocking Bellinger's homer celebration in World Series
"Rod Cody bellinger hit what amounted to be the game winning homer during game seven of the. And probably separated his shoulder. Later, when he was celebrating with his team manager Dave Roberts conceded bellinger's not one hundred percent. He could have issue swinging the bat with that bump shoulders. Here's the question is if foul or fair to say, the dodgers will be better off sent him bellinger to the bench during the series. That's foul to that is a foul. I mean, this guy's a game changer I mean the plays that he makes them the outfield and he's already ran into a couple of them in the playoffs they ran into a big wouldn't just the other day you gotTa have been there. My only question is what's wrong. With Enrica, Hernandez the guy that gave him at four on they need to sit him down. He's letting too many ways McCoy, balance your. Line of the dodgers as talented. But this was rookie of the year and you also was an MVP and another thing speaking from a professional standpoint as the hitting coach when you have a guy that has an injury like that to the shoulder he kind of slows everything down swing blue shorter he gets off tonight in my opinion he's up something special in their series that would be corey bellinger.

What to Expect From the Dodgers and Rays in World Series
"And the World Series Tonight Clayton Kershaw in game one will tell the rubber for keys dodgers against Tyler glass. Now at the brand new home gonNA turn him in the grass for sure. We'll see if that glass will shatter or maybe the Raizal. Ceiling and win their first world series. It'll be played at the brand new home of the Texas Rangers Globe. Life Field expect about twelve thousand fans or so in attendance, and as you know, it has been a tale of two different halves for Clayton Kershaw, a regular season is dominant. A dominant gets postseason has certainly been that way obviously most of the dodger defenders we'll tell you when you take on somebody in the postseason, the quality competition certainly ratchets up. Game. Tonight pre game coverage ESPN, radio seven, thirty eastern, and every single night that we have the world series every ball every strike pre-game radio seven, thirty, eastern. I just. In the world series is not very good because like five or something five point four, zero in the world series, which is not going to bring it down tonight though we'll see we'll see. The rays have some guys you've never heard of but by this time tomorrow, that's certainly may change including the great rookie randy arose arena. If you see him tonight, he is one of the greatest splashes onto the postseason seen we have seen in many years. All right. So put your dodger cap your cap on literally, and figuratively, what do you think in tonight? One of the biggest moments in the managerial career Dave Roberts who's been feeling the strain I think since day once we first of all, it's going to start with the. Pitching Right Kershaw has to come out and he has to deal and we have to back him up and support him. We're runs the last several outings for him. We really haven't done anything with our bats for whatever reason that's the struggling part of it. If you remember several days ago I had mark to share on our show. Yeah we have more share on our show in in question I asked him about the pressure of a pitcher in those innings you get to the fifth sixth inning and you're still battling in a one. To one situation, we've gotTA give him some room to play with and I think it starts with him on the mound. But also, what are bats the guys like Bellenger even though something maybe a little wrong with his shoulder you gotta hope that a guy like that comes through in J. T. and seger stays hot that way we can get some runs and now kershaw could relax at the mile it pitch like he's capable of pitching can appreciate the fact that even though the dodgers of the second highest payroll and the rays have the twenty eighth highest payroll. At Twenty, eight, million dollars highest she'd player. D. appreciate the fact that they they are. They're frugal when she talked about their payroll all the time. That's the first thing he go to talk about the raise the payroll. We're saving money over here. You can still compass a championship. Would you can. You gotta tip your cap to them as a former pro athlete that's played in a variety of organizations with a variety of different approaches. The fact that they're at this stage for the second time in franchise history utilizing the exact same plan. Let's spend less and win more. Plan works to raise and Andrew Freeman certainly put plan in place for them and they've taken over and they've done well with it. The dodgers aren't doing tell Andrew Friedman is the guy that's leading the dodgers essentially got the job because he put the in such great position in his tenure there from two thousand, six to two, thousand, fourteen, four playoff appearances, two division titles, and now he wants to do as much as he can to make sure he can squash that raised team he built and the culture he formed

The Dan Patrick Show
Trent Grisham fans the flames of Dodgers-Padres rivalry after home run
"The dodgers manager Dave Roberts he complained that the padres didn't show Clayton Kershaw proper respect after hitting a big home run Trent Grisham hit the home run and he hit a home run in the sixth inning off Clayton Kershaw to tie the game. And he stared at down a little bit and. Dodgers Dave Roberts was not pleased. He said, I don't mind guys admiring a homer. Certainly, it's a big game big hit. Robert. Said after the game I really liked the player I just felt that to over kind of stay at home plate certainly against a guy like Clayton who's got the respect of everyone in the big leagues and what he's done in this game, I took exception to that because I think there's a certain respect that you give a guy like that if you homer against him. People I think then said, well, wait a minute the dodgers. Made. Member when they hit the home run off Madison Bumgarner didn't they turn it into a t shirt that they kind of. Sat there and. Admired their homerun. Kershaw himself had the right position. He I'm not gonNA worry about their team. Let him do what he wants.
