"Now I need to see this contract. 6 years, a $120 million sounds like. So it looks like it's more of a three year 53 million. Based on the action. But good for him to go to Los Angeles, get that opportunity win the ring show that he can still do what he can do. And now, to me, this maneuver. Now I know they added OJ Howard. They lost JD mckissick, the bills, you know, you can't say loss, just because the information men and women of the business report something in the negotiating window does not mean it's rock solid. So it looked like he was coming. Well, he had agreed to terms. He said it was going, and then he went back to Washington. Maybe it's because he saw Carson Wentz is a press conference. I got to be part of that. It's a Carson's glamour shot. He's clamour shot. What was that? Well, with his letter jacket, I don't know. It didn't work out well for the time. But hey, look, man, all I know is the bills made a big move with von Miller and the way I saw that is the bills know that that's their division to win or lose, but the bills know we've got to put homes on his ass or any of the quarterbacks from that stacked AFC west. On his derriere. Lamar's got to go down and he must go down hard and sure the Bengals are hitting the heck out of that offensive line, but guess what? Burrows got to go down. He's got to go down hard. And anybody that's coming out of these young new quarterback group that can turn themselves into the next Herbert from Lawrence or Wilson or Mac Jones is already the leader of that pack right now to getting his shot. In that division, those young guys that you see a couple of times, Josh Allen if he's not going to go nuts as we expect him you're going to have to play some defense at some point. And yes, von Miller, that's what you've got to do. The arms race is now leading to the sack race. Chandler Jones has been added to the Las Vegas Raiders. Randy Gregory to the Denver Broncos. You already got Frank Clark. He's staying put. You already got Bradley chubby. He's staying put. You got Khalil Mack added to the Chargers to go with boson. This is the way it's working in the AFC right now. Now you could say it works that way in the NFC two. Sure. But the AFC is now the home of the quarterbacks. If this was a seesaw, NFC versus AFC for all those years it was Big Ben and Brady and Peyton Manning. You want to throw fill up in that mix? Sure. Why not? Sure, he's good. You know? The occasional Flacco might raise his head for one year. Look up, look down, see a shadow and then get out of Dodge. No, and that was the AFC. Andrew Luck popped in when Manning left for Denver and then left the scene entirely. So, you know, let me ask you in the AFC is now that seesaw, you know, the AFC is now winning that race big time. Let me ask you this, rich. Yes. Talk about quarterbacks in the AFC. So Alan and mahomes are one and two. If you were going to rank them, right? Just whatever order you feel like putting them in in the AFC. We agree on that. Sure. What is three, four, and 5? Who are your three, four and 5 in the AFC? So give me the top three again, because I was watching it. I know, I'm sorry. I was trying to take your mind off. Thank you. So one and two, if we're going to rank AFC quarterbacks, is Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen. Just whatever order you want to put them in. Yes. They're one and two. Yes. Who are three, four, and 5. Between Justin Herbert, no, I got you, hold on a minute. Joe burrow, Lamar Jackson, Russell Wilson. If you want to put, I will put three. I'll put borough three. Recency bias, kid is a dynamite, and he's only going to get better and hopefully better protected. Burrow is three. Herbert didn't make the Super Bowl. Okay. And his own building burrow did. Okay. Herbert didn't beat mahomes in the AFC championship game. Burrow did. Burr over Lamar, who would you pick? You're talking right now. I'm talking about right now. Who would I take? I would take burrow of Lamar. Okay, so you have. And I take borrow over Herbert right now, okay? Then I'll take Herbert next. Herbert four? Yes. Okay? Man. And this is my point. Look who doesn't make the top 5. They're talking about it. Or Russell Wilson. Who would I take right now to win a football game? Right now to win a football game, or we're talking about top 5 right now. Right now to win a football game. Sure, if that's how you want to measure what your top 5 is. I'll take oh man. This is how Stackdriver. That's kind of my point. If like, look who gets left out of the top 5 when we're talking about quarterbacks. Got to take Lamar right now. You do a mar 5, okay. So Russell Wilson is 6th. It a conference, not in the whole league. I've just got to based on what I saw from Russ last year. And I know Lamar didn't finish because he was hurt. I just, I think he's so special and so difficult. And in the way that Russell was years ago, and we're not even talking about obviously Russell is right there knocking on the door. There are cars. He's going to be really good. He still has Baker Mayfield right there. Dude, you're not a Mayfield guy. I don't even come at me with that. I think if Baker Mayfield on the cult, they can go to the AFC championship game. That would be phenomenal. And that's why, you know, yeah, man. That would be phenomenal. Why do people act like Russ fell off last year? The man she did. He had 5 touchdowns and 6 picks, and he broke his finger after he had an incredible start to calf was on the side of a milk carton half the time. And still had 12 touchdowns. I know that. Yeah, I mean, didn't you have a couple games where it was like three or four or something insane like that? Statistically speaking, I don't know. It just doesn't feel like it. I mean, listen, feel like when you look at the numbers, I'm not carping on Russell Wilson. No, no, I'm just saying. Mahomes and Alan borrow, I'm taking number three. He just went to the Super Bowl. All right? And you know, I understand that Russ got hurt and Carson I got hurt and they didn't have anybody to run the football. I know that's a huge minus miss teen game. Herbert, I mean, I'll just take Lamar. I'm sorry. So you take Herbert over Russ? Yo yeah. Oh, Houston. Oh, yes, Sam. Interesting. And Russ can win it all, by the way..

"And I spent time, you know, as you mentioned in Boston, I understand that that expectation in the market and that's Los Angeles. And that's what you live for. That's what you play for. And to have the expectation of the fan base, that's we know that going in. And so I do believe in the process how we go about, I believe, in the players, the coaches front office, everyone. So that's our goal too. Do you address that with players like literally throw it out on a table and say this is our expectation level as well? Do you do that? You know what? It's talked about a little bit. I think for me, I'm more focused on the day at hand. And getting better. And I think that it's kind of the old adage, how you do anything is how you do everything. And so I think that's something our guys that mantra, our guys have taken to, so when you do that, the byproduct with the talent, puts you in a position when a championship, but yes, I mean, it goes without saying our goal is to hold that trophy to be the last team standing in 2022. Dave Roberts, a couple more minutes left with the Dodgers manager here on the rich eisen show. So we're hearing that there's going to be some sort of like competition committee similar to what the NFL has or what the NBA has more, I guess, a tuned to that where in 2023 they're going to start talking about new rules, changes, and whatever. But for sure, it looks like the shift might be on its last legs here. Dave, what do you make of that concept? You know, I'm sort of you can play both sides like most things. I do like the competition committee getting different and I don't know exactly who's on that committee, but hopefully it's some field personnel, some front office, some ownership. So you can kind of collaborate and kind of come to some consensus. But yes, with the shift, I definitely like the way that certainly makes guys like max Muncie, we've talked about Freddie Freeman better baseball players, Cody Bellinger, but I do like the way of with the rules, how they have been. You're trying to get out. And so with the shift allowable permissible to move three guys the other side of the diamond put Manny Machado in short right field. It's smart. But to kind of play it more straight, potentially you have spikes on the dirt or just two guys on one side, the infield. I'm okay with it. And it's up to players to just kind of adjust, but I see it both ways. Yeah. Just again, I'm just as a fan, obviously. I just don't want to see hardliners buy your lefties that would normally find grass being caught by a third baseman out and right short right center field. That's just as a fan. I want to see movement. I want to see you know we've been talking about your strategy, so I want to see you hitting and running, right? I want to see gappers. I want to see guys going from first to third first to home. Triples. That's the sort of thing I want to see. And it just seems to be missing strike strikeout walk or home run. It's what it seems to be these days. And I think that that's a great point. And that's real. That's a real, that's a really that narrative that thought is very common. And I do believe that it will take away the just swinging for the fences kind of narrative where yes, if I'm hitting balls and lining them so short right field and I got a third baseman there, I'm more apt to now just try to elevate and not try to hit line drive. So now if guys are getting rewarded for hitting a ball in the 5.5 that Tony Gwynn hole to the right handed pull side or the lefty in the four hole, yes and you're going to see more action more balls in play and that's what fans want. Do you like a pitch clock? Are you up for that? I do. I do. And I think it's one of those things that players are very adaptable. So I think early on it's going to be something different, but I do think that in between pitches and nothing against my old buddy Valverde, but that human rain delay guys like that walking around the mound and in between pitch to kind of speed it up. I think it's good for the game and it's just that rhythms that I think that fans certainly need. Maybe you should go on this committee, Dave? I mean, seriously. Why don't you talk to mister Manfred and get me on there? I'm serious. Coaches and the NFL are on the competition committee. For instance, and Tomlin's been on it for a while. Sean Payton used to be on it. I mean, your former player too. You've got a lot. Why not? I appreciate it. And I do think that it shouldn't just be and I might get a letter in the mail, but I do think that ownership and it shouldn't just be management. It shouldn't just, it should be kind of everyone that has some skin in the game. And no one sees more baseball than the field manager. So but yes, we'll see how it plays out. Okay. Dave Roberts, thanks for the call. Congratulations, man. Tell me, what are your lottery numbers for the Powerball? Can you share those with me right now? Number 5, 22, ten. Yep. What numbers trade Turner 6? There you go. Those are my lottery numbers. 21, how about that? Okay, come on, hold on a minute. You're so close to actually giving them. And if that actually hits Dave. What's your Powerball, the Powerball is give me the highest number guy. What's Bellinger's? Okay, 50. There you go. That's the Powerball. There you go. Well done. Dave Roberts, thank you, sir. Yeah, they're called me immediately. Let's pull it together and see if we could make as much as Freeman. All right, I'm in. Take.

"Has every right to say what's up. Today's guest. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts. ESPN college football analyst Todd mcshay. Basketball Hall of Famer Paul Pierce. Raiders defensive end max Crosby and now. It's a rich ice. Well, hey, everybody. Welcome to this edition of the rich eisen show here on peacock and for those who are listening on the radio, I am very pleased to be here on Saint Patrick's Day, but I am not wearing green because I am Jewish. Welcome to this program. Wait, is that a thing for real? I don't know. I totally possibly. Because you didn't like the other day in rich for a second. That's true. Who you're playing against. Good to see you, sir. How are you? Good to see you. Good to see you. Good to see you guys. Hello TJ Jefferson. You're wearing a New York number. It's a 2006 Steph marbury New York Saint Patrick's Day edition. Okay, very good. You know what I'm saying? I like it. Good to see you. Good to see you right here. It is tremendous to be here, rich and yesterday was a great day. Okay, good to see you. That's light and the candle lighting the candle right here to start our program. Happy Saint Patrick's Day to everybody. We've got a McKay on the program. So I checked that box. We've got a Celtic. Check that box. Paul Pierce will be joining us in the middle of the program. That sounds you here is warriors fans kind of sign some relief and x-ray on Steph Curry's left foot came back according to shams charania of the athletic came back with no broken bones, but a strained lick a sprained ligament in his left foot that's going to keep him out indefinitely. As Marcus smart, dove for a loose ball in the Celtics warriors game last night in San Francisco and Steve Kerr is not pleased that Marcus smart put curry out of the game and everything in jeopardy. I totally understand that the coach would have the back of his player. It just looked like a loose ball that he was diving for, we'll ask Paul Pierce if that was some sort of basketball code that Marcus smart violated last night. But for the moment, we have out indefinitely Steph Curry for the Golden State Warriors who entered last night's action third in the Western Conference of the NBA. So that's the professional basketball story in terms of the college basketball story. The final tournament of Mike krzyzewski's coaching career at duke tips off in 12 minutes time to put my absolute professionalism on the line and this has nothing to do with the way I feel about duke. It's because the Michigan wolverines are the first team to tip off in this tournament against Colorado state after Rutgers went out last night in a play in game two Notre-Dame and I'm sure Rutgers was kind of like, okay, we've got to play in Michigan doesn't Michigan did beat Rutgers in one of those 5 games that Joan Howard was out towards the end of the season, but Rutgers had to play a playing game against Notre-Dame and Mike bray the night before Saint Patrick's Day, so that was a lot to have to get through. And Rutgers is out. Notre-Dame moves through, and Michigan now tips off the tournament, along with Colorado state. All right. And so the first few moments of that game will happen as I'm interviewing Dave Roberts. The game will end this way I'm looking at it. The game will end as I'm interviewing max Crosby an hour number three. And then I will be laser locked focused on the interview with Paul Pierce, because that should happen around halftime. Todd mcshay, probably starts speaking to him right after the 12 minute TV timeout of the first half. Honestly, I'm not really going to be thinking about this show in terms of where things are in the machine, Colorado state game, although that would be a lie. And I always try to shoot you straight, so I just did so. That's the way we're getting started in this tournament. South Dakota state and Providence, a team that Mike del tufo has been pounding the table because for because he's done many of their games and by that he means he's pressed some buttons and moves some faders on FS1 every now and then. My bad. Okay. That's the second game up today. So those two games will be going on as we are on the rich eisen show air and then boom. It will be just nonstop action all the way through to probably about midnight eastern. 48 games in four days. It's great. It's unbelievable. It's wonderful. That's why it's March Madness. There's no question about it. And in the middle of all of it, we're waiting here with Desean Watson. Is going to decide Mike florio reported last night that the 14s that have met with deshaun Watson. And let's put it all together. You've got Ian rapaport, his report, and then Mike florio's report together is that both of them have reported and Mike also said yesterday that the teams that met with deshaun Watson already put in their bids for deshaun Watson with the Texans who said, this would be good with us if this is done. We're assuming they pre approved the people to speak with deshaun Watson. They gave permission to teams to talk to Deshawn, who I guess then accepted permission from the Texans because he would be willing to go there because he has a crazy. He has a no trade clause and so he can decide wherever he goes, but the Texans have to also agree to give permission to speak to Deshawn, which is what his prerequisite was before accepting a trade to your team. You have to kind of thread the needle. He's got to want to talk to you. You've got to actually put up enough for the Texans to accept it. And I guess they're working in concert together. So we don't get to the point of, yeah, great I'm glad you want to go there. But we don't want to send you there. Or great, I'm glad you've got the compensation from that team, but there's no way I'm going.

"Would be a dream. I put so much time into and you know i. I've got to stop saying just it's going to be carnage. I've got to start thinking more positively. I've got a secret this thing right. I believe in the secret. I do believe in the secret. If i can secret this thing if i can visualize playing well. Isn't that a huge part of office. Visualize playing well well. I'm i'm feeling a little better. Because dr evan jeffries who is a physical therapist just tweeted at me. And he says he's got some exercises for my calf that will that will get me up and running for tomorrow. So i'm feeling good. Okay good by the way we were talking about thursday night football. Here's here's a little background home teams. Since they started thursday night football are fifteen and three they are eleven th right up against the spread eleven three and four against the spread straight up. They're fifteen and three straight up fifteen and three tom. Brady's forty passing touchdowns tied for second in the league last year. That's as high as touchdown rate in a season since two thousand eleven and but cd lamb is. The guy could break things up i think. Cd lamb is going to have a really good year. Well zack martin. The best offensive lineman for the cowboys is out because he has co vid right. So that's going to factor in. And i just think the bucks are are going to be out to prove that they weren't a one a one hit wonder that people talking about them. Maybe going undefeated. Oh that's ridiculous team going and seven. Yeah i lean more towards you. And i and i read one i sent to you guys i would. I read one report. That said tom guy. Predicting tom brady is going to break. Peyton manning's records for yards touchdown passes in a season. Oh anybody's going to do that. It's going to be mahomes. Yeah brady yeah not at all not at all loud before. It's fun to have a back. What who is nbc. Got this thing tonight. Yeah tell michaels and collingsworth. Yeah al michaels. It sounds like from reading about al michaels. This could be al's last year on on sunday night. Football and this thursday night game. I this i. I'm so glad football's back in the in. The difference is going to be full stadiums. Like you could go to a game on sunday night full of fan. That's going to be the most people in one room that you've been in two years. Yeah no it's i mean i'm i'm totally through. I'm so excited. I mean i've said before splurged on these tickets the seat licenses. I'm really excited for it. And it was a bummer. That i couldn't go last year. After all the money i spent so now we're making up for it. These are my seats for the next fifty years. I'm going to be at stadium for the next fifty years because of those seat licenses. Her year i saw ireland. Did you look at the picture yet. Greg you don't want your old. You don't think that's scary yet. You know what's scary. Is the picture on your twitter account. What is that. "Yeah that's what you need to go. Do her now travel. I recruited you by texts this morning to come caddy for me because if it comes down to it. Here's the one thing. We played three times or four times. Three all right so travis beat me the first two times and then the third time i had him and i swear i'm not i'm not embellishing. The story morales. We're up one. I was five six feet from the hole. Travis was twenty five feet from the hole and morales. Who was his teammate goes. I can't believe we lost to ireland. And tommy and you looked at morales and said go away. This isn't over. You idiot head and then travis drains twenty-five footer. I wet the bed. And miss the six footer to tie the match and then we tied on the last hole so travel. What i need you for is if it comes down to putts at the end. I need you to help me read them. But how much do. I have to lean on you to get you to show up at seven thirty. I could probably make that happen. I probably make that happen. Yeah i'll i'd love to have you for all nine i. It's i'm giving you literally zero dollars way. You want to give you all right. I'll give you this if you show up at seven thirty since you don't do the laker pregame. Where you the rams pre-game yes. I'll give you two halftime and postgame okay. I'll do you'll give tickets to a laker game this season on me. Good seats if you come at seven hundred dollars. I'll i'll be there at six thirty officer. I travis brand new show. I'm loving it you and sleep asks lee all this stuff. I'm really excited that you guys got the full three hours. You've done unbelievable job. It's a cool combo. Because alan does all the lakers stuff and you do all the rams stuff and you put them together and you get a l a local stuff like crazy. Let's talk about the rams fermented Now for me. I'm a huge stafford believer. I think it's a significant upgrade over. Jared goff. I think the defense is going to be just as good as it was last year. I'm a little bit concerned about daryl henderson. But the fact that sony michelle is there i feel good about. How do you feel about this rams team so i i agree with most of the things you said there. I agree that matt. Stafford is a huge upgrade over. Jared goff but i think i think the stafford thing we're making a little bit too much about it that you know we were talking about this on travis and sleaziest a few minutes ago. The matt stafford has the fifth best odds of all. Nfl players to win the mvp award. Wow okay so. He's behind mahomes. Rogers josh allen. And he's tough. And he's tied with lamar jackson. He's tied for fourth okay. I don't think he needs to be that guy to throw for six thousand yards and fifty touchdowns he just needs to be the guy that he was in detroit and by that i mean this. He just needs to be a good quarterback. He was a good quarterback on a bad team in detroit. He doesn't need to be the mvp he doesn't need the light up every day. He just needs to be significantly. Better than jared goff which his average performance or slightly above average performance will be the the rams got to the second round of the playoffs with a guy that had a broken hand interns turns over twice a game right by the way. They didn't even start them. John wolf returned until he got hurt. No i think. It's a huge upgrade. But i don't think it has to be like okay. If he's an ep. We got a chance. I just think he needs to be himself and they got a really good chance. So i've been trying to describe to people the stadium. Because i got to go to the preseason. I went to the preseason game the way travel. Do you do pre and post from the stadium or from the studio free from the stadium. Post from hollywood park casino right across the street. Nice nice i put it into words. How spectacular the stadium. It really is the greatest stadium i have ever spin. Well you know you said you can't put it words that literally travis the right description you can explain it to somebody you need to go. Exp- it's one of the few things that there's only a handful of things in los angeles you can say this about like the hollywood bowl on a perfect night and can't explain it to somebody so fi you can't explain it. It's it's like we'll think about this. The biggest stadium ever built was jerry world. for billion. This was five five times more than stadium ever built so i went through jerry world when they had the super bowl there a few years ago and it was really remarkable in incredibly impressive into your point. John when you walk into s-o-f-i you're like oh yeah jerry world looks like the you know the forum compared to this. It doesn't yeah. It doesn't look like the next step. It looks like ten steps. Further down the road. The way that i've described because i agree with you. Mace i there are. There are not words to say. Oh this is what it's kind of like the grand it the newness of it the the the mutton modernity if that's a word of it are very indescribable but here. Here's what i'll say. It's the only thing that i've never had anything to do with that. I want to show off to people that you are. I want people in the city to go in there and see it. Because i was lucky enough to go through it a few times as it being built. When it was finished earlier this season leading up to the preseason got to see all these different stages and it got better every single step people need whatever it is whether it's iran's game a chargers game a concert with whatever it might be. You need to get in that building because it is indescribable and it will blow your socks off travel. I'm curious as to who you think. And i know this is subjective until we see the games but for example in fantasy last night. I drafted both sony. Michelle and darryl henderson. Who am i gonna end up playing more or sorry michelle. I think so. Yeah i like darrell henderson a lot. I think he's a good back but he's had a hard time staying healthy and he hasn't even played that much. Yeah you know the it. It's not that i don't think he's productive. It's that i think he he's a smaller guy. He's not a big durable guy and in the limited time he's got he's got nicked up pretty much every time. So i'm worried about that aspect of it. More than the performance aspects sony. Michelle is really good running back. Who's played in a whole bunch of big games at georgia with the patriots in the super bowl. I i think he's going to slide right in and do a really good job. you know. there's a guy that i think on the roster and the wide receiver core is. Obviously you know you got rubber. Woods and cooper cup into sean jackson tyler. He.
"dave roberts" Discussed on Mason & Ireland
"And we are going to make fun of both of you the entire time but i would expect no less now. The dodgers by the way are down to their last out. Yeah bellinger popped struck out. Good god bellinger. Go what are we going to do with that guy. Well i think he's running out of chances and he's a very likable guy. Yeah no. I got nothing against him. He just can't hit. Yeah it. it's getting to the point but right now you need them. Because you've got injuries. You know that he should be bat nathan. He should not be hitting fifth. Accept or you're gonna put susan and mckinney ahead of them true if you're if you're lining that lineup up i'm not sure who you paid for it or hit fifth bellenger at least had some type of major league pedigree. They're all hitting like one forty. They're all like one for the last hundred or what it is. I mean it's just it's a mess. It is not good now. Last night was the thirty first. Annual hollywood football league fantasy football draft and have been there for a lotta years. Now you add the first pick you took. You took very measured pick. You took christian mccaffrey. Yup i took the most unconventional pick. I took patrick mahomes with the fourth overall. Pick in the draft overall. How do you feel about your team. I actually feel like this is the best team. I have ever drafted. Okay so what's interesting about that and matthew berry. We do thing every year. We send matthew berry both rosters but we don't tell them which is guy so he's just gonna look the to rosters to give an honest assessment of who has the better team. Yes now and i'm not. I'm not like doing this for a bit. i'm not. I'm not just saying this up. I think this is the worst team. You've ever drafted by a mile. What i think you have completely screwed the pooch here. What in this league in the hollywood football in matthew always makes this point. Oh you guys are in that case that cared relic of eliya. Yeah yes go in standard scoring leagues the quarterback when he throws a touchdown. It's worth four points. yeah early. it's worth six. yes so. The quarterback is absolutely critical. Yes you forgot to draft a quarterback. Wait a minute jalen hurts is on matthew. Bury's love list for this year. he's on. He's on the love list for this week. He's ranked by espn as the sixth best quarterback in week. One i hate jalen hurts this year. And here's why the eagles are gonna stink there. Is you got a lot rape it. He's not a great passer. He's a great runner. You're not a great passer. And by the way teams are not gonna let him just run wild and then. You're your backup quarterbacks. I think all. I love fitzpatrick. Okay my three quarterbacks. All right patrick mahomes ben rothlisberger and derek carr. I would rather have any of those three than any of your quarterback. I already cut jared goff. I found a Receiver last night. We have a stupid rule. Where you have to draft three quarterbacks. So my three quarterbacks were jalen hurts. Fits magic. And jared goff already. Cut jared goff. I only need to carry two quarterbacks. I think that by the way. Chris taylor just out dodgers lose again. I liked to those dollars that matthew berry says my lineup is better. How much twenty five hundred. Mythical it's a back you're going to do it to no no. We're betting on whose lineup. He's if okay right so the winner. Five hundred twenty five hundred if he picks me. I win. Twenty five hundred. I'm gonna crush on this. You cannot believe how good my team is. Your this is your you have cemented. Your name of last place maze for another year. Your team is terrible or getting in or we're getting into all of that at the top of the hour. Two o'clock ramona. Just texted me. Wait are you gonna finish in time for your show tomorrow. Momo were teeing off at seven thirty and we're only playing nine holes. How long do you think the ron at one. Yeah i would have to. Do you think it's going to take us five hours. Play nine hundred nine holes. Yeah i think we'll make it big ramona's golfer. So i wanted to john bring a because you know what my favorite show on. The station is besides ours. Travis and okay. I love the travis asleep. Show i wanna bring travis on for a minute little golf stuff and talk about the rams to who kick off on sunday night. Oh good. we're going to do that coming up. You had and then. Maybe i can guilt him into showing up at seven thirty there you go so travis is gonna join us coming up and don't forget two o'clock matthew berry will be here. He will choose. Who's got the better fantasy roster mason ireland seven ten. Espn by the way the golf classic tomorrow is presented by coors light and sunday swagger. We got really cool shirts from sunday. Swagger what is yours john. it's the hitchcock it's a bunch of birds. That's right and i got extremely appropriately. A donut shirt is covered with donuts. And i also wanna say keystone will be there in person for the ceremonial first shot. He's coming to town from the temple at ten. Am apparently last year or last time we did this. He hit a house. They're opening shot. But it wasn't as bad as you think okay. He was in a different course. The house was kinda close to the teebox. It wasn't that bad. Okay good by the way momo says. Are you gonna finish in time you show tomorrow. It's so far to walk. we're driving karts. She unfamiliar with travis. Rodgers is. You're the best golfer at the station. yes so trav- this is almost a weird gulf sociological experience. Okay all right. So mace has been practicing and taking lessons from pro for two three months. But he's never if he's being honest i don't know if you are never been on an eighteen hole on a regulation. Course he's been. He's played some executive courses. Okay but never been in a whole course the format which we've decided mason doesn't know that i'm doing him a favor but i am because i want to keep it competitive. I'm giving him twenty seven strokes for the nine holes. Oh it's a nine hole match. Okay is he wouldn't play me eighteen. Okay he says he can play. Yeah i don't think i got that in way. Travel all play the back nine with you. Okay up until you have to leave to do your show if you if you want to bring the club okay. So twenty. seven holes are twenty seven strokes. He's getting but it's matchplay. In this sense. He gets three strokes yes so if he gets a twenty on the first hole it if we played stroke-play and he wets the bed. He'd be out of it after three hole to wreck blow up. I think match-play gives him a chance especially getting three shots. A whole. what do you know. I think that it's a good match for exactly the reason that you said here. Here's what you gotta keep in mind. Mace you can have like you said you could have a whole where you run out of golf balls right. It doesn't matter. Yeah 'cause you go to the next hole and your three shots ahead. Write so or i do is hit one. Good shot on a couple of holes. And you're gonna win those holes because if you hit a tee shot for instance right yes. You're lying negative to in the fairway right right so you you don't need to string together a bunch of good shots if you hit one good shot per whole you're gonna win most of those three shots a ton so traffic. Here's the other thing. I cannot hit woods to save my life. So i am playing only irons i will probably a i feel really good now about five. Iron off the tee Down thinking about this. Because you've played black gold more than i have We're playing the front nine. Yes he can carry. There's no carey's off the tee especially if we play the white t.'s. He can carry everything with a fire right. Five at five five might be the one that might be a tough carry but the other the other eight holes. He'll be ono and eights along carey for five away visa if he is it more than one hundred sixty yards. Yeah five a beat is for sure so you might have to play on there now and okay so other. Some other points of clarification travel that you be because you golf more than anybody. I think inside the leather is good. Is that fair. i think that's fair. Okay so you know what that means. Mace nope no clue. Means if you put your putter the end of your putter in the whole and then and then measure your but then if it's terrip it's good you it. You don't have to put it until it keeps you from like a missing embarrassing logo. Good good what. Would i would suggest mace with those rules. I would go to roger done today and by a nine foot putter.
Max Scherzer Pushes Dodgers Into 1st in NL West
"Who's in first place in five bobby who you think might be in first place albeit by half game albeit tied in the loss column in the national league west. Who do you think. That is bob. The team with the most good player so any team. That's that that it's finally coming to foolish wishing yeah and they got they got six innings at max Sherzer and yeah. They moved ahead a half game. Okay the way he takes care of his business and wh when when the manager of a team that just won last year is talking about a another former champion. they picked up in this these kinds glowing terms. Dodgers’ Manager Dave Roberts Not Expecting Bauer Back After 7-Day Leave
"Could be on the bench for longer than previously thought. Manager Dave Roberts says he doesn't expect power to be on the mound in the coming days, even after his administrative leave it set to expire Friday, and they'll be benched him amid recent sexual assault allegations against him something the Pasadena Police Department is investigating. Matt Moreno is managing editor of Dodger Blue, the website of journalism about the Dodgers. He spoke to Kcrw's greater L A. About the allegations, at least for now is a little bit of, he said, she said, and I don't mean to kind of Make light of the situation at all. But You know, there isn't necessarily concrete that the police have been able to find yet, at least to my understanding. The Dodgers have taken criticism for not taking action themselves before MLB did, Merino says. That can be attributed to the collective bargaining agreements between teams and the Major League Baseball Players Association. Once MLB launches their
MLB Places Trevor Bauer on Administrative Leave Amid Assault Allegations
"A major league baseball pitcher, has been benched by the league is a criminal investigation against him, continues Major League Baseball placing L. A Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer on administrative leave for seven days in response to allegations of sexual assault levied against power by a woman who has since filed for a domestic violence restraining order against him. This announcement Friday comes one day after Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the former Cy Young winner was still scheduled to start Sunday against the Washington Nationals. Referring to league officials. As of now, we're kind of in the middle of letting the commissioner's office Major League Baseball handle this. It's in their hands. MLB is working in conjunction with police in Pasadena, California to investigate these claims. Bauer has denied the

He said it's a fractured his left. Fibula show cody is not in the lineup. Obviously today no gavin lex today or aj pollick as well today tonight. Excuse me and this bellinger thing now that the dodgers have a lot of depth right. MLB awards: Finalists unveiled for Manager of the Year
"The fact that MLB started doing this naming the three finalists. Am I telling you for the past couple of years, and they've they've announced the finalists for the major awards day towards being handed out next week Monday. Next Monday, is Rookie of the year man to the years next Tuesday. Cy Young is on Wednesday and then m V P, of course, is on Thursday. So to me, the most interesting one is the manager of the year, especially in the American League and usually like man who cares, But I think it's very interesting because The three guys who they've picked in the American League to be the manager of the year. One of them is Kevin Cash, who had a fantastic regular season but has been blasted for one managerial movie made in the World Series, which was taking Blake snout too early. Yeah, he pulled a Dave Roberts. Yeah, and it makes no sense to me at all. Why he would do that, And he's going to say it's the analytics. But if you look at the numbers Blake they're actually the third time through the lineup is better than he is the second time through the lineup. And he was making them look ridiculous. Absolutely. I mean, it was. It was just stupid. How bad they looked any just struck out the top three guys in the orders twice. So that means none of them had made contact Justin Turner. Mookie Betts. Corey Seager had made zero contact, and that's the Yoon said Betts doesn't swing and miss. He makes contact and he was he made. That's look ridiculous. He absolutely didn't know that. But this year better actually hit worse against lefties. Entity is right. But that's beside the point. Yes, so Kevin Cash is one Of the three managers. Charlie Montoya. The Bluejays is another one, which I think is great. And I think it's hilarious that the third manager of the heirs, Rick Renteria, who is no longer manage manager, he was relieved of his job. So we have a guy who made a horrible managerial decision guy who's no longer managing, then you're trying. Montoya.
Los Angeles Dodgers win World Series, but also become super spreaders of the virus?
"They won with a powerful lineup. But did they risk turning the world Siri's into a corona virus super spreader into a super spreader event? It Let's let's talk about the good things for a Shall we then Los Angeles Dodgers win the World Series first time since 1988 and had been a long time coming in a lot of failed a lot of false starts at the beginning of this decade in terms of winning So many division titles and just sputtering in the playoffs, losing to the infamous Houston Astros in the 2017 world, serious getting beaten by the Red Sox in 2018, and this time they were great. They were fantastic. Even Clayton Kershaw that everyone talked about couldn't get the monkey off of his back. He comes out and wins. Two games in the series, and it was great for them. I think that they they did it the way that great teams are supposed to. They scored more than half of their runs with two outs. Everyone's looking for all that clutch. All those clutch performances and the Dodgers really did come through. They were They were fantastic. Even with the crazy game for 87 collapse that we thought was going to turn the Siri's around in a different direction tied it, too. But at the very At the next turn, The Dodgers come back and they never look back. They are champions, and they very much deserved it. Even though it was an eight game season. It was very much Before playoffs and everything else. Yeah, it's it's a legit championship. But but but but but Justin Turner removed from the game because it was positive for Corona virus. He returned for a celebration often mask lists hugging people. He sat next to Dave Roberts, the manager who is a cancer survivor, and therefore more at risk. How How do you finish that sentence? How do we characterize this? Well, he characterizes as a massive massive Hey, irresponsibility on the part of Justin Turner on the part of the Dodgers and certainly on the part of Major League baseball, even though Major League Baseball has tried to get out in front of this by laying the blame at the feet of Justin Turner, and it is his responsibility. However, I have a hard time believing that that he was allowed to play with an inconclusive test, so they took him off of the field after the test was Was found to be positive. But if you have an inconclusive test, how do you let him play in the first place? And so everyone's going to take responsibility for this, But this is what we're seeing across the board were seeing this at the University of Florida with all of their positive test. We're seeing it with the big 10 as well on the Big 10 had made the decision earlier not to play, and then they got bullied by the president into playing, and now they're canceling games. This is the thing Scott we talked about this months ago. Everyone saw this coming, but this country has just made a decision not to care about it. And, of course, the discussion of the weak. Ah, Kevin Cash, the Tampa manager, pulling Blake smell Blake Snell, Tampa Cy Young Award winning pitcher after he struck out nine after just 5.5 innings because of analytics. Tampa lost with almost the next pitch as this decision become emblematic of these over analysed times. Well, absolutely. But I had a revelation during this world serious guy and I think I've always known it, but it it wasn't crystallized until watching this. I don't watch baseball or I don't watch sports for wins and losses. I watch sports for competition. And this this thing they did not let Blake smell compete. And this happened at a time. When look at who we lost during this baseball season where you've lost the great picture, Whitey Ford, you lost the great competitor, Bob Gibson. And these players, they're legends come from competition, and if you're not going to let a player compete, what is the purpose of being a Cy Young Award winner? You're not even going to be allowed to have these classic championship moments. If they pull you out of the game. This is why we watch in baseball. At least the Tampa Bay Rays took that away from us. Howard Bryant of ESPN Well said, Thanks so much. Thank you.
MLB investigating after Justin Turner ‘refused to comply’ with officials during Los Angeles Dodgers celebration
"To talk about. Ah, what happened to Justin Turner? He was pulled in the eighth inning of the game last night because of a positive Covad test. What did the Dodgers know? And when did they know it? Yeah, So it's It's a a interesting situation. The way that is kind of shaken out is the players were getting tested daily while they were in the postseason bubble. In Turner's test on Monday, producing inconclusive result, which MLB was alerted to during Game six. And so they asked the lab in Utah to expedite The test results on the sample he provided Tuesday. And that is the one that then came back positive as soon as they will be found out. They relate it to Andrew Friedman of the Dodgersfront office, who then pass the message along to Dave Roberts. That You know? Hey, Justin Turner has to come out of this game right away. And it's the exact timing isn't clear. You know, they weren't gonna necessarily stop The game. If there was, you know, one or two outs in the seventh inning, but obviously we saw you know when the ending kind of turned over for the start of the eighth, he was replaced by Edwin Rios. We're getting a statement today but by major league baseball, by the way, this is according to the times that they are investigating. Now, Turner Um MLB, saying that that he quote emphatically refused to comply. When league security raise the matter to him about returning to the field to celebrate. We saw pictures of him. We saw him in a mask, and then we saw him without a mask. We saw him with his wife and the trophy. So the investigation, I guess is beginning in Major League baseball. We've seen that there have been no additional positive tests have come back among Dodgers or raise players. More testing is scheduled For today. And in the coming days.
World Series Game 6: Rays decision to pull Blake Snell immediately backfires
"Kevin cash taking up. Blake, Snell in the sixth inning last night with one and one out and a one nothing lead snow had been brilliant to that point no runs no walks nine strikeouts. The move backfired immediately the dodgers got two quick runs off Nick Anderson added another later in the game on a home run by Mookie Betts and won the world series. We'll bond. Can you defend what cash did? No And I don't WanNa hear anybody else tried defended either because some things are just indefensible and this is one of them Tony I I'm offended by what I saw last night just somebody who grew up on baseball whose I love and sport was baseball played baseball pitch and just offensive. So numbers are so important to you Kevin cash that you can't use your eyes which is supposed to be professionally trained and steeled, and you've been benched coach and manager then all these days and you don't know when you need to leave the guy alone you. WanNa, take the game away from the players take the game away from a starting pitcher whose lights out who the other team is. Now, not afraid of going Oh my God is shaking their heads and you don't have the baseball since in you to leave him alone and ride your good fortune to have this guy going this. Well, totally I was in contact via text with a couple of former recent former notable major league baseball players, and they were as startled about this development as I was and I just couldn't. No. There's no defending it. Yeah I'M GONNA. Give it a shot at defending human I'm going to preface it by saying if we don't learn from history, we're always going to be doomed to repeat it Kevin. Cash. Has Seen Blake Snell. He has managed Blake Snell for years. Now he's seen them all year. He hasn't gone through the sixth all year I'm going to read from my notes Ziara in these playoffs in the first four innings where he's been great as one point three, five from then on it's twelve point five, six last week Snell no hit the dodgers for four and two thirds and Then, in rapid order walk homer walk single and cash has seen all of this the last guy up before he gave him, the Hook was the ninth patron, the order, and he hit a rope to center field, and now at this point you've got bets and you've got SEGER coming up for a third time. The mistake isn't Yanking Snell to me the mistake is putting in Anderson Innocence the wrong guy in the regular season he's lights out but in the playoffs is over five and Mike and his last six appearances, he's allowed to run I I I understand that Kevin? Is. An. Easy target and a totally legitimate target. I just think in this case, he had seen Snell all year and the hulk wasn't as bad as what he did home. You're not playing lifetime achievement. You're playing the damn game tonight right? You is your sense of everything. This is your livelihood I don't care what he did last week. This guy has given up one hard hit ball maybe a second heart. It Ball. Alright. So yes, you got what you're saying about bringing a guy in who's been lit up lately I don't WanNa go that far I don't care who he had going warmed up. You have got a guy on the mound that has the other people in the other Doug. If you're a manager the time we know you're watching them to and they are shaking their heads when they walk back to. The dugout he has stymied them. If you're not smart if all you're doing is playing probability Tony, then go work at the win in Vegas I don't WanNa see you near a baseball diamond. So let me go back into this for a second because it's something we'll have to live with if he never wins forever in the way that great little does the way the Darryl bevill does. Making these what appear to be bonehead calls but I would tell you Dave Roberts said the same thing with Clayton Kershaw he let him pitched to two batters in the sixth inning whenever it was and he knew that Ziara after a certain point was bad and he took them out to protect him and to make sure the dodgers won that game I think managers do this I don't. You know I'm not crazy about analytics I don't WanNa take an anti intellectual viewpoint here that I think that certain people it's absurd managers rely too much on numbers and not enough on you but I think the mistake was who he put in not what we took out. One of the guys I was texting with last night we might be said half the front office is in baseball would have done this and it's not just a managers front office last night was bad night for Baseball Tony. You could say baseball's we at five. We know better than somebody even most cases who's twenty five years old. It's a sad night for baseball that a guy pitching a masterpiece. What are you take? You defendant Kevin Casting Colfax or Gibson? That's the kind of performance. This guy was spinning last night and he took them out and it's a sad night. It's a sad night for baseball I don't care how anybody who wants to defend it or painted even Kevin cast I don't care what he has to say.
Los Angeles Dodgers win World Series for first title since 1988
"Year, the city of Angels is celebrating. Dave Roberts, 20 Los Angeles Dodgers won their first World Series title since 1988 beating the Tampa Bay Rays 3 to 1 last night. Dodger third baseman Justin Turner had to be removed mid game after testing positive for covert 19. Turner is the first player to test positive this postseason. But he says he feels fine and he was seen celebrating on the field after the game. And you know, tiny. My first memory of baseball was that 1988 Siri's, with Kirk Gibson, famously pumping his fists around the bases. So it has been a while for Dodger fans. Yes, and from my house last night in so Cal, All you could see was fireworks in the sky as Angelenos celebrated this long awaited victory.
"dave roberts" Discussed on Sports Talk 1050 WTKA
"I couldn't be happier point Kersh could be up here. You want to talk about How about being a champion? He's a champion forever. Kelly is in what you've done. Thank you. Justin title. Thank you. Honey, come here. Thank you. Ross Stripling Who's not here? Thank you for everything you guys love you saw but brought you work Your care, Your unselfish Congratulations, You guys. Guys the best do you catch who has shouted out to Rick Honeycutt, who was not with the team in Texas, Ross Stripling, who was traded in August. He's thanking a guy who was in the post season for a different team. But in that moment when he was on top of the mountain, and he could have told the entire world kisses ass Instead, he's up there thanking guys who aren't even there. This is what I mean, when I say Dave Roberts is never going to make it about him when he could have been telling everybody. How do you like me right now? When he had every right to ask Tell me how he's shouting out to guys that everybody else would forget. You're not thinking about this is what makes Dave Roberts the man he is. This is why people love Dave Roberts, and that's a big reason why the Dodgers are World Series champions. So you better put some respect on this guy. And to the question of did the actual feeling live up to the actual expectation, Kershaw says. It's smashed it. I've been saying, you know, World Series champs in my head over and over again, just to see if it'll sink in. And I'm just so so very thankful to be a part of this group of guys and so very thankful that we get to be on the team that is bringing back a World Series to the Dodger fans after 32 years. They've waited a long time and to get to do that you couldn't ask for anything more incredible..
Los Angeles Dodgers' Justin Turner pulled mid-game during World Series win after positive Covid-19 test
"Win three one, win the series and six, but being completely overshadowed one of the grandest franchises in sports winning the World Series Championship after three decade plus drought is being overshadowed by one player having to leave the game doing a positive corona virus tests and that is just turner but that is also so twenty twenty Jeff Passan is with us this morning Jeff have little more details on what went on that allowed Turner to be on the field for the post game celebration. Hasn't been nothing really allowed him to be on the field. He just chose to be field and nobody was going to drag off after he won the world series. He essentially said I'm going out there and nothing's GonNa stop me I want to pose with the trophy I wanna be with my teammates I want to choose celebrate like somebody WHO's won the world series for the first time and nothing was gonNA stop him and the fallout from that we're GONNA see over the next couple of days hopefully there. Are No other positive corona virus tests on the Los Angeles dodgers. But you know that all remains to be seen as does how they're going to get back to Los Angeles. When they're going to go back, there are a lot of questions still jeff. I don't put this on Justin Turner nor do I put this on the dodgers but how big of an indictment is this on the MLB? They're the ones that pulled him from the game in a there's the one that told him he needs to quarantine. When we see these Leagues Have Championship Games. There are people in the League office who were their security from league offices are there where where is the MLB and all this? Well I think the security tried to stop him from going on there but he you know this is a guy who's covert positive. So is security going to put their hands on him or are they GONNA to? Contract the virus themselves probably not, but they they didn't stop it from going out there and they did remove them and I. Think Rob Manfred got some questions answer about how that happened about what protocols were in place and why they weren't followed. Let me ask you this Jeff Obviously La in second biggest market for Major, League baseball outside of New York in the Yankees Major League Baseball don't want the headline story to be about covert the day after the second biggest market had just won the championship. Course not but I think regardless of weather. Justin Turner went onto the field or not it was going to be pretty interesting part of the story I. Think the fact that he did go back out there makes it a much bigger story now because there are questions, why did he go back out there? How did he go back out there? Who allowed him back out there? How did they not stop it? Jeff what are what are you hearing around the league this early morning about his teammates embracing the fact that he was able to join them for big celebration. GonNa go on up checks message here that I got from general manager. It's A super spreader event on live. TV. Welcome to twenty twenty. And I'M GONNA PULL UP A. Dm I got from an active player isn't here. Now it's nice, but essentially it's What the F. is going on. And that's kind of a thought around baseball and yet. You guys were players let let's put you in that same situation you gotten cut. Seven years ago, and this organization gave you a chance you blossom into an all-star to guy who gets MVP vote someone who's made fifty million dollars somebody who's a leader in the clubhouse and is seen as one of the voices and wants to celebrate this thing that he has worked so hard to celebrate. Would you have gone back out there As a teammate I'm okay with it I don't know if it was me dead had tested positive. I. Don't know because it would had to have happened in the moment and I would have probably responded reacted to my teammates, my coaches in people around me if they was embracing situation most likely I would have joined. But if Jay Wheel for instance is tested positive and he's my teammate I'm. Come on man we me. Yeah this is so subjective Jeff because I'm different I would have wanted to celebrate with my teammates. I just would've wore masks I would have done it differently but. turnage Justin Justin Turner did wear a mask out originally, but there were a couple of instances where cameras got him. He was talking to his wife taking pictures with her gave her a kiss mask was off and he was sitting down on the field for the team picture. To his left was the championship trophy to his right was Dave Roberts the dodgers manager who ten years ago was diagnosed with Hodgkin. Lymphoma. So He's a cancer survivor. He's the person who has a pre existing condition and Justin Turner daybreak spoke for mascots at that point now Dave Roberts told Fox later on I think it was something to the effect that I didn't touch him. but you know he was he was in the same vicinity wasn't for fifteen minutes wasn't close contact defined by CDC but the optics on it as Andrew Freedom and the president of baseball operations says not good.

"You didn't even answer the question. Why was it okay? Well, you know, it was a great year and a great great night for Major League baseball. This's disgusting. Something is terrible. One more here from Dave Roberts. This goes back to the texture. Dave Roberts not know about the covert restrictions. Or did he not know that Justin Turner had been pulled from the game? Entirely? Pretty good line. I thought from the texture there. Here's Dave Roberts just saying, I had no idea what the Turner situation Wass. All I know is that I had to take him out of the game in the seventh inning, which was crazy and he tested positive and I don't know if it's false, but I have no idea he's behind me right now Talking to Andrew and I don't know what they're talking about. He was in the team picture. I didn't touch him just because I just didn't know but it was really crazy. And I was really disappointed that obviously with that he couldn't be out there to celebrate with us. But, you know, we'll see. We said it couldn't touch him. Hey, was sitting right next to it. If you go to the front page of ESPN dot com Right now, there's no there there shoulder to shoulder right next to each other fact that Dave Roberts is a cancer survivor to makes this whole thing a little bit. Harry Earth, and maybe it otherwise would have been on the other side of the baseball home into this on the other side. Why it was the Dodgers were able to win this game is our game. Ava checked in earlier analytics, ruining the game of baseball. I mean, this whole thing this is what's even worse is Kevin Caches again. No, wasn't even scripted. That way. We We were just going based on what we saw. So I just I don't beside myself. They're blank the Rays to you don't mean screw the race for not handling their job. Screw the Braves. Screw the Rays. Screw Cove in 19 Screw the Dodgers were here from Kevin Cashen Blanks now on the other side can be are one of 45 and 6 80. It's the sports leader..

"Yeah and I mean as it relates to the NFL. I mean we'll see we. We have the advantage of having time on our side converted these other sports. Hopefully things are continuing to trend in the right direction and we can get a full season and maybe even with of stadiums quarter full would be nice as well but I I know the NFL kind of has a perfect right now. Right you've got the thirty two teams. The math works beautifully but I almost wonder if that if the if there was a huge loss of revenue. If that wouldn't be something that would be you know approach with the NFL. Thinking about potentially expanding. I know for me. I think there's a Lotta content. Because can you imagine thinking of the different rules of expansion saying okay? If we went team by team you can only protect this amount of guys you know that would be. It'd be kind of fun. Expansion will be fun because I I wish you plan your L. Else. Plan to the expansion draft. That was my the third year thirty league because I ended up going to Jacksonville their second year. My second years went ahead. The expansion draft my third years. When I went down to Jacksonville and season it was their second year of existence and it was a it was a difference. Tell me the difference that I'm curious. Oh it was funny right so I go from being with the Green Bay packers in ninety six. The first half of ninety six did they eventually went on to win the Super Bowl. I go from being on that team. That has absolutely loaded with Reggie white and Brett Farve and the Roy Butler and all those things. The team is rolling. It's like automatic wins. Every Sunday I go to Jacksonville and at the time Jacksonville may have been three insists and I remember my parents coming to a game and the stark contrast between being in limbo and watching debt team play and watching the Jaguars played like my dad. Said like man. This is kind of like a almost like high school game so and there was constant turnover like every week man. It's like four or five new people on the team because you're trying to figure it out. It was great for young players. Because you get an opportunity to play. But then you have a mix of old players and you have so many people come from so many different Previous teams that is hard to build chemistry and so it was a unique challenge but the thing about that the second year of existence the Jaguars and the panthers both went to the championship game. I told you how bad we were. We were from three and six to qualify for the playoffs knocking off the buffalo bills and the number one seeded Denver Broncos to play pages in a championship game. We'll the Carolina Panthers did something similar and they're all right Going to the championship game in eventually losing to the Green Bay packers. But it shows you that you can turn it around. You can build a team pretty quickly. You got to have some luck and some things go your way but certainly can be done. Yeah I think it would be fun man. I think it would be fun to kind of go through that on our side of things because a lot of different strategy and I'd have to go back and research what happened with Houston..

"Friday eight PM eastern Saturday. Twelve am four am and eight am so again. They have a long night on your time. There you go. That's go out. Go out and have a good time. I guess your social distancing in stay out in public. I know what you're going to do that time. But if you find yourself out and then come back and watch his show so beyond look out for that. I wanted to run this by you. I am not A. I'm not. A business guy. I think maybe we'd have to have Andrew Brand or somebody on her to explain this to me but I was thinking about baseball and their whole situation and what they're going through and trying to work out between the Union and the MLB. They can't figure it out right so buck. Tell me. Tell me if this is not. This is crazy idea. Okay because you've got short-term money crunch right they're gonNA lose a lot of money. Every Sports League potentially losing a lot of money this year so Major League Baseball and the Players Association. They're not in agreement on what the compensation should be for this for the season there's thirty. Mlb teams right. They've got three divisions in each league. Why would you not at this point in time? So you know what we can do. Let's let's let's go to expansion in the next couple of years. Two teams take the NFL MODEL. Four Divisions Right. So it's still even numbers and you have four. Four divisions in each the American League in the National League that influx of money for the expansion fee is a huge chunk of money for them to do that build. There's plenty of cities that would want it so I mean. Why would that not be a topic of conversation you could visit say we could inflict some serious cash to help offset the losses? They're going to have this year. Cova things on the business model. I like your idea With the expansion. I do believe that there. A couple of the city's decade come and compete and we could feel those stadiums. I'm a baseball fan so I would love to see more baseball. Baseball are really. Give me what I can't understand When you talk about short-term some money is better than no money yet. Oh at some point. I'm listening and I'm like like I get it. But I would rather have a couple coins coming in then missed an entire season and then the stuff that we're seeing with the minor leagues is heartbreaking. Because man you talk about four hundred or so. I mean a ton of minor leaguers debt. You talk about dreams being extinguished. It's already tough enough. Like to hear what they were living on like. Four hundred dollars a or whatever like I just didn't know it at the minor league system was like that but it's crushing so many people lose jobs or whatever. I would just like to think that they will be able to get in a room and figuring out Safety and all this stuff I but figure out a way to be able to get it done where they can play and that not only the players on the field and upper level but all the people that work in those environments in the stadium. Then maybe they will find a way to kind of get back at or whatever because it has been economic downturn in all of those cities we're proteins because so many people depend on those games to really fuel respect to businesses..

"You still have a number on how much we're going to do that. You know but Lombardi wanted to run it and run it well and I'll put my love to get your eleven and we're going to be better But I think that with baseball and football and basketball all these orser tendencies that people have done and now we can quantify but for me I just want as much information as I can but ultimately yeah it your gut at your eyes and in one particular moment you can take all the information that you've had but to be honest with you whether the place executed whether it's not whether the pitches made whether it's not whether this is going to get this pitcher out that's essentially a flip of a coin so now you Gotta. Bake in the is and how the players feeling right there What's led up to that particular moment and also the information. Is there a sweet spot? Dave in terms of maybe some teams are too far analytic driven. Maybe some teams are too far kind of that Gut. Field school scouting driven is there. Have you been able to find that sweet spot where you can put it all together at just the right dosage? We're still working on it. We're still working and and I think that you know it's funny is that the sweet spot is as I've learned as a manager to sweet spot is when it works go bosses and everything can be right and you can believe in it but if it doesn't work that it was wrong so I don't believe in that But I did more of the conversations I love I mean. I have the scouts in my office all the time and I encourage our players to talk to scouts. I'm talking to the front office. I'm talking to my coaches. I'm talking to players and I think that whether it's Clayton Kershaw is going to be in the hall of fame. Or Cody. Bellinger Mike Trout. Mookie beds we just acquired guys just outliers and you can basically just bet on who they are as a as an athlete and you throw them out and some guys you. Can't you know some guys? At Ninety pitches. His stuff falls off. You know some guys when it gets to the goal line. He can't push the pile and you need that guy with twenty extra pounds to be the goal. Line back you know. That's just the way goes but that goes to with coaching and and conversations. Dave is funny as you talk about relationships and communication because one of the things that have heard about you is because you guys have been really heavily analytic driven that you've had to really manage the relationship with the players. Get them to have a complete buy in talk about the importance of trust and communication when you are trying to make decisions in the best interests of the team but you're dealing with players and we used to play every day. Well that's Yeah. That's that's a constant I wouldn't say struggle as a constant challenge is something that I gotTa Keep Front of mind You know I think the thing is is that I have to always remember what it's like to be a player when you're a coach. You have to remember that and secondly I very all the time players. Our goal is to win. Baseball Games and winning is the most important thing so When you have a lot of good players you know players..

"This is purely because you just never know what the mets just never know so the fact that they that they. They haven't fired him or the fact that they haven't felt that. Some of the things that have gone on <hes> haven't been fireable offenses whatever it may be the fact that Mickey callaway still has a job as the New York mets manager is surprising just because of how things have gone for the mets up to this point yeah so here's my dilemma I love Dave Roberts will always love Dave Roberts. The dodgers is our wrecking crew. I don't think that because of your team being great. I don't think that that makes you a great manager. Just because you're at the helm of one I think he's a great character builder think he gels els the room but I got to see him like manage a world series. I can't pick Dave Roberts after watching the world series like I just the team succeeds because they're talented but when it comes time to push buttons I wasn't impressed. That's who you pick it. That's why I'm once again going with the reigning defending you gotta go snicker here. Go At snicker. I would seriously role David Bell if I was you know David I think just because of the rash of injuries that he is dealt with in the in the rotation and yeah I like David Bell. Can I ask Jerry. Can I ask you a question sure sure in the heat of the moment if they were to advance to the postseason the world series etc.. Do you honestly have more faith in Brian snicker to pull the right button pull buttons more effectively and Dave Roberts or is it just that you haven't seen it if you haven't seen it fail role at the high end. I think it's <hes> to moves that you can point to that. Were managerial decision is hey. Let's put a Kunia in the leadoff spot and when when that happens Bam braves take off like I can I've seen moves made to where it's like that has led or correlated with the braves success <hes> with Dave Roberts. It's like you know bellinger's on the on the bench and the world series of months. He's not getting his tax it and fucking Ryan The let's go to Ryan Madson again because that at work the first five times that he gave the lead <hes> yeah. I don't know I just feel like the dodgers are a wagon and that's because of how talented they are and I think that the braves <hes>. I don't think that they've over performed but there once again top dog when at the beginning of the year a lot of people were talking about other teams other than the braves see. I think that there's just more correlates more to managerial decisions. You Know Konia move. I think this is a pretty weak crop of manager of the year candidates especially not necessarily because managers are doing a poor job but because so much of this is driven by narrative and I feel like there isn't a there isn't a narrative. That's driving the N._F._l.. L. Manager of the year race right now no that's. That's absolutely fair to clean that up. I was talking about David Bell as manager. The I don't know why I wanted Clint hurdle in there when I was talking about the rash of injuries that he's dealt with and Shit so I'm actually picking Clint hurdle a non factor or a non a non list guy. Oh that's weird that you win and gave some shine to the pirates pirates paying like what is the deal did you when we were out at spring training like I'm trying to think of like like the Dallas go missing and I didn't notice that he was off like signing a contract with aside deal. It's all right here. Here's what we want you to do. Every every other podcast you have to drop some reference to the pirates. It's being under appreciated their rotation being awesome or maybe clint hurdle being the manager of the year. I'm I'm really racking my brain for a period of time whereas like where the Fuck Dallas go I honestly honestly when I was putting this list to get like this rundown together and I was like all right. Let me provide let me look at some possible options and stuff like that and I looked at the pirates and I go you know what I feel like. That might be coming as I can't.

"I think that in talking pitchers, the feels different in talking to hitters when they don't hit a baseball as well as they think they did. And it goes a distance that, you know is a hit or you know when you get it and, you know, when you don't but I just heard many times over when I didn't get it. And it carried you know, ten seats into the stands so that just kind of for me you hear that. And you listen, but as far as the bouncing of the sound not as much. Yeah. Because I, I heard Rick Sutcliffe talk about this, and he's one of the smartest guys I know when it comes to pitching and he talked about the seems that they're different than they they've been before. I don't know if we're trying to create more offense here feels like every sport wants to create more offense and baseball would I guess be in, like I missed the small things in baseball. Dave I really do like your role nowadays in baseball. I don't know what that role would be. It'd be different. But I, I miss the extra-base I I'm, I'm. Miss, you know, hit and run. I miss bunting. I like movement in the game. You know nobody's stealing in a seventy bases anymore. You know how do we get that back? Do we need that back in baseball? Well, I think that, that the fair question, and I think for me the baseball Pierce. That's exactly what brought us to the game. And I think that you're talking about the cerebral, the thinking part of the game, the strategy part of the games that I actually love. But, you know, when there's so, you know, you're talking about the audience that right now could you argue that more people would would rather see a hundred dollar fastball and four hundred and fifty foot homers than a sacrifice fun or a hit and run or throwing over three times to have a guy still second base. I mean I but for me review for the purest. Absolutely. But I think that it's talking about viewership. And I don't complain about it. Three hour game because for me is when there's a pitcher's duel over their strategy. Whatever it might be bullpen management matchups. I, I love that stuff. But I think that the general fan these days, I don't know if they would say the same thing as you and I, but remember when you struck out one hundred times Dave, I mean you were by. I didn't I didn't strike. No, no not. You. Probably check and see how many times what's the most? Dave Roberts struck out in his sees check check. But if you struck out one hundred times in a season, you were embarrassed like you had the scarlet letter on it now it's almost like, that's the badger courage, like, oh, you only got punched out one hundred times I got punched out one hundred and eighty seven time you know Bryce Harper's one of the best players in the game. He's going to strike out two hundred times this year. How does that happen? Yeah..

"Dodgers Dave Roberts back on the show. How you skipper rich? What's happened? How you doing my doing great? I'm doing great before we get to all of that. Being obviously the baseball season and the dodgers there's a big huge conversation in the sports world out of the NFL about change of instant replay. What's your stance on instant replay with baseball? You know, what I think actually I'm a fan. I think that, you know, the players and speaking for people, obviously, I've got a bias of you know, on the field, and I just want the call to be right. And I think that there are times where you know. It's it's kind of undecided or the call stands. But I think for the most part these guys get it right with the replay. I don't think it takes much time as people think and for me, I think for the most Brad liked to get the call, right? More than not. So I'm a fan base bomb Easley when you're talking whether balls beaten someone to the bag or a ball, fair or foul or over the the wall. I mean, I it's usually a line involved. What what what's happening in the NFL is a judgment call? Would you wanna see balls and strikes replayed? Dave. No, no. I don't think I would like to see that. But I do think that you know, I think that you know, there's been talk about that electric strikes. Zone and stuff like that. Where there's still a place for the home plate on pyre. And I think for anyone I think that you know, one side the human element. I think is part of baseball has always been. But again, the part of getting it right is kind of for me outweighs a little bit. And I I will say though is that when baseball players complain about her once to lecture strike zone. I think the hitter is going to have a rude awaking because there's a lot more strikes called at balls that they think so. So that's gonna be something that's going to unfold, you're sure in the next year. So interesting when you what do you mean by that you think an electronic I might be more. I think would favor more the pitcher. What what do you think that? I think that there's bowls that where the hollow the knee right below the kneecap and above the Belder, the the kind of where you take your stance right below the armpits or however, it's kinda verbiage the rule book. I do think that that low ball that players think is down is a strike, and, you know, more for me, it's north and south versus east and west west. I think that they're the pitchers get a little bit more on the corners. But I think north and south I think that it would electric strikes, and I think it would be a shock that the balls called strikes. Dave Roberts dodgers manager here on the rich Eisen show.
