"Might say, Hey, we've been on the air 24 7 from the first of the year. Everybody deserves a break. Let's just sign it off at eight o'clock when the home appliance show has done this morning. Not going to happen. WJR will not let that happen. We're going to keep going strong and to tell us how strong and with what Here is Dave Rigger. Coming up at eight o'clock is the Ric Edelman financial Show. And then following him the inside outside guys from 10 Til noon from 12 to 1 today, the law line with Justin growth for your legal questions, and later on today, sport trapped with Chris Renwick. And that's what's going on on WJR later today. Thank you, Dave. The show must go on, Joe. That's my philosophy. Let's go to Tiffin, Ohio. Somebody who called us at 808 590 wjr 808 590957. With a dryer that won't turn on. This is Mike. Good Morning, Mike. Thanks for calling And how may we help you? Good morning, Joe, um, went to push the button in on the drier the other day and Did nothing. I checked, Uh, breaker and we have power to the dryer. It's electric. That's a Maytag. Uh, little over 10 years problem. And, uh, we have nothing. We check continuity in the wires. Nothing's burned in the back. We have power to the unit. Are you say nothing. No sound at all. No sound at all. You've got to go right to the door switch. Okay. We did that We were and we had. It's a little tab activates, Uh, switch. Correct. Now it's time we have no rights when we open it. The light wouldn't come on. We kind of jumper Dad crossed and we got the light to come on. So we pushed the button in and held the button in and tried to knob and we had nothing there either. So, but you did bypass the door switch. Yeah, because we did get the light to flicker on and off. Yeah, you did that. Yes. When you did that. Well, the dryers to 20. Correct the door switches 1 10. All right Now you go back to the dryer Accord, the electrical cord. Uh huh. And you make sure you unplug it first, Okay? Okay. I want you to follow the cord where it goes into the back of the dryer. All right. There's a little panel there you take off. There's three or four connections right there where the cord hooks up to the dryer. Okay. I want you to inspect those connections very close. Okay? Is movement in that dryer vibrates vibrated for 10 years plus And causes any wire that's loose. To get looser. And many times the wires short out in the back, provide you one den. Through the circuit. But it won't provide to 20 because it's disconnected back there. That's where I want you to concentrate your efforts. And you gave me that secret there when you told me that light of flickered Right? Because I think Oh, my brother was doing it and he was putting up switch back in and we didn't have the power off of it. And you know, whatever. He was touching that light would come on. Yeah. And And still didn't have anything because we tried to push the button in and he could have burned his dialing finger. Never call radio show again. Well, he did get zapped little. Yeah. Yeah. And you know you're fooling with a dryer with electricity. And you're also fooling with the product that next to water, the washing machine any deafness on the floor? It will give you an extra jolt. But you try that, Mike. I want to hear back from you. Donald gives up email. And I'd like to hear back from you if it worked or not. And we'll go from there and joy. If if thats switch as long as we had a light there, that switch would be okay. And then, yes, adore switch. Yeah. Yeah, okay. Already. We'll look at the cordon. Thanks, Mike. All right. Thanks, Joe. Have a good day. Welcome. Thank you. And here's that email address. It's the first four letters of appliance followed by the first four letters of Dr at gmail dot com. A PPL D O. C T at gmail dot com. This one we're going to Cleveland got a question about how to clean a new Frigidaire refrigerator. This is less good morning less thanks for calling all the way from Cleveland. We appreciate you very much the morning, Joe. And I appreciate you guys very much. And I am a repeat, caller. Thank you. Okay. I used to have a G e side by side and underneath it. You could take the panel out and there was a pan underneath there. You'd slide that out in the coils were there. So you could get under there and run your sweeper and clean it out. Because stub believe me, I do it for house cats, but she bought a new reef fruit, frigid air refrigerator. And there doesn't seem to be a panel on the front. There is the cardboard one on the back. So are all the coils and everything just in the back. I don't see any way to get underneath it from the front. Well, some of them are just in the back. Some of them are spread out like the old style underneath. But let me tell you very alarming thing. That the manufacturers of refrigerators have done to the public. You know your past. When you bought a refrigerator, you had an instruction book. Instruction book said that once twice a year, you should pull a drain pan out from underneath the refrigerator and wash it because it is a source of bacteria. And I mean bad bacteria. It's a source of odor that you can't get rid of until you watch that drain Pan. They were concerned about your health. And they made it very verbal in their writing. Now. The drain pan underneath the refrigerator is now metal instead of plastic. It's so ordered to the top of the compressor so you can't remove it. It's much smaller the space to reach inside that drain pan. We all scraped the top of your hand on metal. Trying to get your hand in there. Okay? So in other words, they couldn't give high blazers about your health anymore. And that's totally wrong. I took one of those drain bands out of the refrigerator. I took it to a doctor had, um, analyze it, He said To me, there's more bacteria in this drain pan. And you remember this Now you've got a fan motor underneath there. And it's breaking that bacteria right out into your kitchen. Okay, kind of hot on the subjects when they do things so wrong without caring. About the end user the by the person who purchases their product and I think they're all weapon wrong and deceiving. Let's put it that way. But okay, go through the back and do all that, Mrs. And then I got to tell you unless they make the whole plate in the front of the refrigerator. They put special screws in some of these that you can't even find a screwdriver to match the screw. Okay, and you should get underneath there and clean some of the dirt That's underneath there because it's all bacteria. But right in the case of this ladies that refrigerated Frigidaire You may have to do all your cleaning from the back. You'll remove that cardboard cover or whatever covers on there. You'll get down there with a brush a long handled brush. You can buy those brushes. They're called condenser brushes at the hardware store, and, uh, crevice tool of the vacuum cleaner and cleaner. It is The less and.

"Of the Great Lakes 7 60. Tell you Jr Here's wjr is Kevin Dietz. And we'll open up the lines for the last segment here If you want to jump in and give us a call at 1 805 909571 808 590 wjr. We'll take your calls Right now. Let's bring in David Rieger and Daniel Mason Guys. We're talking about Miguel Cabrera. He's two home runs away from 500 home runs a huge milestone. It's never been done by anyone wearing a tiger uniform before, so there's going to be some value to that baseball. We were talking with Ron Colangelo, the VP of communications, and he says Miguel Cabrera definitely wants to get that baseball back. And that You know if the fan who catches it if it's a fan, I guess it could be a player in the bullpen or it could be an employee. But whoever catches that ball, it may have some value, and they talked about giving him some other, uh, signed collectibles. Some photographs, meeting one on one with Miguel Cabrera. I'm curious one if you would, if you guys would give the ball back, if you did, what would you want for it? And would you worry that if you didn't give it back that suddenly Detroit Tiger sports fans would be very angry with you, Dave. Let's start with you on this one money. Funny that you're going to have to pay for it to get the ball. Money. I don't You gotta care what Detroit sports fans think. You have to give me some money for the baseball. I was. Well, that's yes, I was expecting from Danielle somehow. I I don't know why you can't be by surprise, but but But there it is. Well, money. How much money do you know Anything about memorabilia? Have you seen there's been obviously other players who have hit 500 home runs before I know. That there was a lot of talk about the baseball for the the most home runs ever. I remember that way back when, uh Hank Aaron did it, you know, and obviously his record has been beaten, but What kind of money Dave would would encourage you if fans were were pushing you to to be a good guy and and give the ball back $100,000. $100,000 Yes. It seems like you've been thinking a lot about. I don't think I'm going to be anywhere near ER there when he hits it, and we don't even know if he's going to hit it at home, you know? Cause they're they're heading on a road trip, so Right. So they go. Um, they I don't remember. I did look to see where they had because they have a few games away before they get back. I mean, he could hit it, you know when they were away? So then it's not going to be, um you know, the same as as if he hits it, you know, in America. And you think whoever someone in Cleveland will really hold Cabrera up. No. Get the baseball. No, I think that you sure? Because they're pretty greedy and mean down there. I don't like her. You know, Ohio people are, uh I I think I think Are they going to Baltimore? I think too. I I have to. I have to look it up, but, uh, no. I think that, um, Here's what Here's what will probably happen. I think it will probably end up in the bullpen or it will probably end up being caught by an employee. But we were talking about it at the break here in the studio. And it was brought up that Comerica Park employees. They might come. You know, they might be ready to just to hop into action and maybe try to, uh, you know, convince the person to catch the ball too. Give it back to Miguel Cabrera for whatever the tigers and he may be offering for the ball. Now with the Internet. You can always auction it off to the highest bidder to and Cabrera could get in on that if he wanted to Daniel, Are you any nicer than Dave Rigger? Yeah, I'm way nicer than Dave Rigger. I'm just going to give it to him. He go. I don't want to meet you. I don't want to do none of that. Just take your bongo. Go let me long. That's what that's what would happen and it would be so great for him. He wants me to catch the ball. Miguel Cabrera wants me to catch that ball because I'm just going to give it to him. Let that be known. Let that beat up Jews. Miguel should get you at least a ticket to where he hits Most of his home runs put you at least in the most likely section. Yeah, he needs me. Catch him. He gets them all over the place, though, you know. Yeah, Daniel, you wouldn't You don't need an autograph. You don't need a photograph already. I actually already have an autograph and a picture and I already spoke to him. So it's just like, uh, Been there done that is hanging out hanging out outside of Cabrera's house. No, I was actually in Cleveland. We're in a rain delay. We're at. We're at the game in Cleveland and rain delay and the guys are all practicing, and they are like, screw this. Why are we going to practice? We can hang out with their friends, so they hung out with us. I met them all. Yeah. I don't know. I don't really, uh, collect a lot of memorabilia and stuff like that. I don't. I guess I I guess it would be fun if you caught the ball that day to meet him and congratulate him on it and hand it back to him. But I don't think I'd want any of the media attention that goes with all of that stuff. I would probably Uh, I'd probably just give it back right away to Danielle. Although Dave, if you think you get 100 grand out of it, I don't know. I don't know if they would be mad at you day for doing it. I really don't snapped. I mean, come on. You caught it. Yeah. Daniels. Hey, I'll be mad at you. What? What else is Danielle? If you if you got that ball and saw that you could get one of those electrical cars and electrical vehicles you've been watching so much great. I'm going to come pick you up. You can You can try and open the door. I know that the handle spookier, but you can get it. You could try Daniel. Think about think about all of the Taco bell that you can get on Fridays with money from catching Miguel Cabrera's 500 home run. I'm already entered into a contest where I can get free tacos for you here. So like we'll just roll with this right now. One thing at a time, Dave. Don't do you know if you have student loans? I gotta lot of student loans that I could partially pay off with Miguel Cabrera. 500 baseball. No student loans? No. Oh, I do. Well, maybe I'll ask him just to do that, And then you can have your ball ego that could be more than $100,000. And And then if we find out what the value of that is, what will the value of his 3/1000 hit me Because there's only seven players ever who have gotten 3000 hits. If it ends up that is 3000 hit makes it into the stands as a home run. Then there would be another chance for a fan to collect on that ball. Dave, you think you could, you could catch 22 of Cabrera's baseball's. So for some reason, I think the home run is worth more than the 3000 hit. Although he's probably going to get to 500 before he gets to 3000. But what if his 5/100 home run was his 3000 hits? Then it be worth double. I knew you're going to say that. That would that would. That is not going to happen. It's not going to write because he's going to hit. He's going to get to 500 before he gets it. He needs about 60 hits Still, I think, yeah, yeah, he's not gonna. Yeah. So I think the home run is It's more impactful than the than the 3000 pit. Um, the home run. Maybe we'll just ask for $25,000 for the 3000 hits. Yeah. So crazy. Uh, he isn't He terrible, Danielle. Oh, I know. I spent a lot of time with him. All right. Well, thank you, Dave Rigger, Daniel Mason Back in the studio. We appreciate all your work this week, thanks to our guests. And thanks to our collars, especially our listeners. Have a fantastic weekend. We will be back on Monday. Dan Bongino is next. As Americans..

"Saturday from the Weather Channel meteorologist Cambone on the stock. 7 60 wjr. You're hearing the Paul W. Smith Show News Talk 7 60, W. J. R 6 21 and Dave Rigger is in for an Thomas and Thomas on first grandma duty and loving it. From what? I can see the pictures I have seen. Uh, on instagram and elsewhere, uh, and and have been practicing all their life for this position, and I'm sure doing Good job with it. I think the figure David, it's like 117 to 120,000. I don't have the exact figure. Of just DTE energy customers that are are without power. We are trying to reach them to get someone to speak with us. And as you can imagine, they're kind of busy. Over there, But we're doing what we can to get as much information is that about Is that the number you're hearing about? 117 120,000? Yeah, said that at one point yesterday, there was more than 136,000 people at one point without power access yesterday so They're working to. And then you've got we can here at the Fisher building. We have the windows open in the studio here and we can hear the wind. Flying by Um, so there's another storm that's coming. Oh, that's that's not good news. You've got the windows open because you still don't have power for conditioning. No, no, We have air conditioning here. We just We just have the windows Open here in the studio for a little bit of a cross breeze and Brian and I can hear the wind just howling by and it's raining. So, um, I hear the play by play with Brian in the background. Yeah, it's raining now. Exactly. So we don't need the rain. We don't need no stinking wind. So, uh, Man. Oh, man, Um Well, hang in there, boy. Keep saying you guys deserve hazardous duty pay, but a lot of people do with the things the way they have been. Me look for a positive a positive story on the front page of the Detroit News, at least online because my papers for whatever reason are getting here later and later, but Metro Detroit's teens in high demand for summer jobs. So as all these companies try to staff up Getting kids many times in their first time job, so they haven't been pained being paid not to work yet. They're they're It's kind of going to be, uh, the world will be their oyster, so to speak. They're going to have a lot of opportunity for some jobs right now. That is for sure. Still get the stories that just don't make sense. This one has to do with teens, A group of high school students is being blamed for the cancellation of an entire flight. To the Bahamas. Was an American Airlines plane getting ready to depart from Charlotte. Some of the students in the group reportedly decided not to wear their masks and you know by now, if you've flown lately, that's the announcement that comes through Please. Where? Your mask Federal mandate. Let's not argue. Let's everybody mask up. You knew it before you got on the plane. Let's do it. Well, they didn't do it. And so apparently there was a I can't imagine an argument, but they went back and forth. For hours fighting with these kids to wear their masks. So then the flight was canceled The flight to Nassau, all those people on the plane. Going to the Bahamas punished because of some high school students. No one was arrested. At least thus far. That's what we've been told. So that's very bizarre. I don't have you heard any of the details any more details about that. I have not. I am not. Um, but I can only imagine with as much as you fly. Have you ever encountered Been on a flight where it has been delayed or cancelled due to an incident on a flight. I've never been very fortunate now that I say this my next flight out get I'll have the problem. Have not. I have not experienced that and I do fly quite a bit have flown quite a bit, but I have not experienced that. I'm not gonna hear about it a lot. I don't quite understand why, if you know, going in ahead of time that these are the rules that What you think you're going to accomplish by trying to fight the rule. I just I don't understand what it is that they think that they're going to accomplish by this. I don't know. Uh, they get a mention in the newspaper and on the radio, I guess, but I mean, that's that's if that's their fame. They're barking up the wrong tree because it's that's becoming infamous for stuff like that. On the big story that we've been watching now for a while. The rescue efforts at the collapsed condo building and Surfside. Shifting and I got to tell you I've never seen Them take longer to make the very difficult decision to go from rescue to recovery, But Now. Uh huh. Wisely. And, sadly, they have shifted to pure recovery efforts. The Miami Dade assistant fire chief Telling families that That it would be Next to impossible to find people alive something I'm afraid I felt right away in any of us who saw the way the building pancaked. We were holding on to all those stories in the past. Oftentimes in third World countries where buildings collapse more often than they do not supposed to be collapsing. But then they do. And They collapse where there are pockets of of air and pockets of places people could be. But this thing pancaked I mean, really pancaked. And so As of yesterday, at least 18 additional victims found in the wreckage. Over the last 24 hours, then bringing the death total to 54. There's that still nearly nearly 100 still missing. I don't Yeah, it says it, says 86 people remain still unaccounted for. And, uh, You can only hope that The remains can be found and and turned over to families to grieve. The way that you need and want to grieve at a time like this. Of course, there is great fear that that will not happen. Had they actually found out what caused it. I know that I had read articles about concrete, and there was a contractor who was complaining about Like two days before that. He was worried that this was going to happen with the with it being unstable pictures of it minutes before it collapsed with water pouring like through the building down into the parking structure. Am I have no idea, but I'm going to say it will be as it is always when there's a catastrophic issue or problem.

You're hearing the Paul W. Smith Show News Talk 7 60 wjr. Well, it's Tuesday feels like a Monday, which is also why my yet Detroit News column is in today's paper. Like I say, usually Mondays, but today In the publishing world is is Monday. And so I hope you look for the column there and the editorial section of the Detroit News. They did a nice piece for Independence Day on the editorial page yesterday. As they always do with the With the fine work that they do with its striking US by the way, it led to a nice note from the editor and publisher, Gary Miles of the Detroit News Congratulating me on my 25th anniversary of being back at W. J. R. To do this morning show now into its 26th year. And I appreciate that. Gary also mentioned he heard his talking about the The whole Phil Mickelson story which caught caught us off guard last week, and it You know, he's the editor and publisher. He's very successful. He makes decisions and it doesn't have to justifying to anybody. But he has his reasons for the decision that Led to a story and then in the newspaper. That led to Phil Mickelson saying initially you know what? I'm not coming back to Detroit. Well, that that that's that was terrible news. Um And even though he didn't make the cut anytime, Phil Mickelson comes the crowds. Love it and and let him know they love it, so he made it. I think not really thought out decision maybe an emotional one to say he might not come back now. That's changing, and part of the reason is Our next guest. Mike Sulley Sullivan, the founder of Brand 25 Media LLC. Started a petition now, Dave Rigger knows, Uh, Sully, I don't know that I've ever met him, but it's nice to have you on the program and Dave Rigger. What do you know about Mike Sulley Sullivan. Um, I used to work with Mike and both of us at a previous job at a previous station, and he is be broke off, started his own company and started this, uh Metro Detroit golfers. Facebook community that just blew up and has become very popular. And so he's trying to get 50,000 signatures to convince Phil Mickelson, uh, to come back next year to the rocket mortgage. I gotta tell you, I'm I'm choking up here because of stuff that's in the air at our house from the flooding. We've kind of figured that out. So I have to turn my mic off every once in a while. And cough. So be that as I don't know how you make an insurance claim on lung damage from the flooding, but anyway Um, let's talk to Mike Mike Sulley Sullivan, the founder of Brand 25 Media LLC. In the Metro to try to golfers. Facebook Welcome. Welcome to the program, Mike Yeah. Paul, Dave. Thank you so much. And and real quick. Paul. I know that you said that we haven't met before, but I'll tell you what you know. It comes full circle here. The one time I remember meeting you was the first job I ever had. As a kid. I was 14 years old at the time. And I was a caddy at war were killed, which meant I got to work the Buick Open every year and I was actually In the same group as you were in one of the pro am so I got to meet you briefly then and then walk around with your phrase he holds and then 15 years later, here we are. Oh, my God in heaven I first of all, Mike, let me apologize that somehow you drew me. As part of the force them because as you know, and as you remember, Wait a minute. Were you the guy? Who said to me after I found my ball. On another fairway. Were you the guy that said, Mr Smith? This isn't that bad. Because if you go straight up that way, you can go to the left and you can hit the whole. And I said to you, I think or someone like you. Well, you know, son. If I could go straight up this way, I wouldn't be on the wrong fairway right now. So you know, that's funny. I remember that. Yeah, that wasn't me who said it? But I do remember that. I think your kid that was looking at adding, who had a couple good laughs out there. Absolutely Well, yeah, I'm always good for other people's laughter. When I play golf, be that as it may. Congratulations to you, Michael. That's great. You're obviously doing very well and that you also didn't like the idea that a newspaper story was printed. We get Phil Mickelson, who everyone loves kind of Um and and he says he's not coming back in which I was an ill advised decision and emotional one. How's it first will go with the You're looking to get 50,000 signatures, he apparently said. 50,000 people sign this and all promised to do a random act of kindness. He would come back. Is that about it? Is that about right? Absolutely. Yes. So, So honestly, You know how this all started was, you know I'm not here to attack or to divide or to be nasty for the publication or anything like that. But The point of this really was due to take a negative situation which, like you said it was. It was an article that that was written years ago, and I don't even want to get into, you know, do I think it was relevant? No, but the point of it was You know what this is Clearly a negative situation fills upset about it. He's saying he's not going to come back. How can we just Take this entire thing and flip it into a positive. How can we just instead of, you know, yelling at each other, Just instead, flood with support, Flood with signatures and show you know how much golf is actually loved in the in the state in the city and And how much would be nice to have them back and not really let that be the story. So it's been overwhelming. Obviously, it's still mentioned me in his press conference, which is crazy. It had to be that had to be that had to be a big deal. When you heard him mention you in the press conference. That was especially someone like myself was just growing up, You know, really watching him and you know, that was unbelievable. My phone was blowing up and then I had a chance to meet so briefly the following morning on Saturday when he before he feet off, so just Has been pretty crazy for sure. Do you think? Uh, we're with Mike Sulley Sullivan. He's the founder of Brand 25 Media LLC. Dave Rigger standing by as well. Our producer this week while an is off on grandmother duty. First time grandmother duty. Um, he played well, his first round and they're not so well. And do you think this was on his mind or is he way above that? Yeah, I do. But at the same time I've never seen you know whether it's been working the beauty group and beer. Whether it's been going to the tournament, it's really hard to find. Someone who had more support this week and build it. I mean, the crowds were champing at him all weekend. We want you back will come back. You know, he was acknowledging the grounds. I think there was a ton of support for him. Um and the fans really showed that they they want him back. But You know, he He obviously didn't play great, but said Nice words about Detroit, which is always great and and steam to really support the tournament. So definitely was able to kind of flip that now looking like he probably will come back. So we will see Sully. How many signatures are you at right now? In your quest to get to 50,000. Yes or right around 15,000 Right now it's unchanged dot org. You can also go to Metro Detroit..

"Of July. Here at 7 23. We haven't had an update in a while on the coronavirus and and we need to Covid 19 cases were up in nearly half of the United States heading into the July 4th weekend. Is this because they don't want to call it the India variant? I guess So. Now Delta pays the price. Anyway, anything called Delta. We can't help but think now of the variant, Unfortunately, anyway, first identified in India Is spreading rapidly throughout the state straining hospitals in Springfield, raising fresh fears that the situation could soon grow worse with concerned that the holiday Gatherings could in fact, cause some real problem. Uh, celebrating as well. She should being a grandma for the first time. And so Dave is here and helping out and all of these various stories that we are looking into coronavirus being one of them. It's the huge disparity Dave that that underscores the The two Americas that are emerging as life returns to normal in some areas in cases surge again in others. Michigan happily Is doing better than many states in terms of people getting those needles in the arms. I was just talking to Brian about this, Um is the is covid becoming the the new flu now? Well, you know, Interestingly enough, the flu did not hit us as hard as it has. In the past. More people have also gotten the flu vaccine, but also because we're out there Social distancing and wearing masks that people don't like. But too bad because there is proof that it works regardless of what, uh, you know, anybody says the fact is they work. And I think that's probably why we have fewer flu problems. I don't think coronavirus is the new flu. But I think coronavirus will in fact. Be around like the flu, and I suspect also, we'll have to get vaccinated again. I don't know yet what the timing is how long this vaccine will last giving protection all of that, But it wouldn't surprise me at all. If, in fact we were looking at an annual situation. In terms of vaccinations. I mean, I don't know, I I don't think anyone knows. But, Yeah, I was working with Sean religion last week who filled in for Mitch and we talked about there was the argument over natural immunity versus the immunity you get from the vaccine. And, uh, there's definitely, um, an argument there as to which lasts longer. Well, that's fascinating. You mean which which last longer between So for instance, natural immunity because you had coke or the or the vaccine. I'm going to go. My money is on the vaccine last longer than the immunity, the natural immunity. Yeah, we found an article from Nature magazine that claimed that the natural immunity that you get From having Covid and these were from people that were not vaccinated lasts a lifetime, and it's just natural immunity toward it. And so That is fueling the argument for the people that say that they've had covid so they don't not need to get vaccinated, where there's a lot that's fueling every argument out there. But how would they come up with that? And then you brought it up? David? What who Let's see a showing of hands of people who have natural immunity to the flu. And never have to get a flu shot again because they had the flu once, and that's a great point. I mean, I don't know anybody.

Scott Lorrie Moore on Newstalk 7 60 wjr The Mitch Album Show on Newstalk 7 60 WJR Sitting in from Itch, Sean Bell Legion. Or Dave Rigger the entire break. Mike Parsons and I sat here talking about the glories of the fall. Can you Can you blame us with the weather outside right now? It's kind of got that early fall feel and that breeze kicks up and Oh, my goodness, I can't wait to go to the cider mill. I can't wait. I don't want to pay $3.29 a gallon to go to the cider mill. But this is something that we touched on quickly. They know a lot of people wanted to chime in on it. Wall Street Journal had a piece today, Uh, and in case you missed it, Americans face the steepest gas prices that they have seen in nearly seven years. They're as high as it's been in seven years heading into this holiday weekend and again, we always know that there's a spike On the holidays. The national average price for a gallon of regular gas was 3 12 and according to Triple a almost a dollar higher than it was a year ago. Um I I paid 3 29 today Gas station at 10, Mile and Nova. I wrote I paid 3 29 today in great this in great discuss. I can't stress that enough. But there are a lot of different things being thrown out there. Um One of the things that the Wall Street Journal sites Higher crude oil prices. Growing demand is workers returned to the office and resume commutes and a shortage of truckers in some regions that is causing bottlenecks so it's a supply. And demand issue is that what's going on? I'm interested to hear what you have to say. 808 590 wjr. So if I'm following along if you say that, in essence is a supply and demand issue right now, Then why are so many? Economists looking in their crystal balls and saying it's going to be even higher upwards to $4 a gallon a year from now. That's frustrating, and it's quizzical. There's no doubt about that numbers as always. 808 590 wjr. Let's go to Robert Hanging on the line. Robert and Roosevelt. Thank you very much for your patients, sir. You're on 7 60 wjr. How are you doing today? Tremendous you Yeah, I'm doing okay. Quick preface. The last time we paid $4.25 a gallon crude oil was at $160 a barrel. Mm. Just for to frame this argument, but I've been watching gas prices. Since I since I saw aghast at 15.9 cents a gallon. Okay? Now. Every time I've seen the gas prices jump. We've always had a stress or recession in the economy about six months later. Mhm. The problem with all of this is and I'll throw. I'm gonna throw in an extra little twist in the gas prices thing. About eight years ago, we were paying Nickel difference between regular and unleaded, regular and mid grade and another nickel between mid grade and premium. Every time the gas price would drop down a little bit. They would increase that for a nickel and they did that for about 2.5 years until they finally got to a 30 cent difference. The infrastructure for the manufacturer of fuel. It costs them, not a penny more to make premium than it does to make wages. They make it at the exact same time they just tap it off at a different temperature. All of the infrastructure. Cost them no more to make it deliberate and drop it at the gas station than regular Why they are being allowed to charge a 30 cent difference and a 60 set difference for premium. It's still astounds me and why they haven't been looked at for or This is beyond me. But you know and never know Robert, And if I may for a second, I'm glad there's somebody else out there. So you and I, whether you like it or not, we kinda have a kinship. I have always kind of secretly kept my eye on gas prices and I I remember playing his day I got my driver's license in 1987. I remember playing his day, the gas station at seven mile in Inkster had gas for 67 cents, and that's the lowest I've ever seen in my life. So that's two of us now, I guess. Yeah, that's two of us, you know, growing up in Lavonia and and thank you for the phone call. By the way. I remember that plane is day because it was a little off my beaten path. I grew up at seven and merriment, But I happened to be driving to Southfield one day and I was driving on seven mile and I saw this place. It was 67 cents, and that's the lowest I've seen it now as I mentioned, and if I took the time to go back and look at my Twitter timeline or whatever. I was down river shortly after the The lockdown started last year and everything and I stopped at a gas station. I believe it was 87 cents, and that was early April of 2020. Because if you remember the gas prices plummeted absolutely positive positively plummeted. So I'm with you. I I don't know. I seriously I don't. I'm not going to sit here and points the finger at this person or that person anything like that. Do not misconstrue. But there's something something something Fishy and I don't know what it is J in Van Buren Township. Maybe he's got some insight. J appreciate your patience, sir. You're on 7. 60 wjr. Good evening, J Happy, dry force, but Will give you some information. The biggest factor and the races today and you're going to go between four and $5 again. Is Wisconsin Pipeline. Because that pipe that oil was going down to Dallas and being define it's now going out to the Pacific. Canada's married us then to tap it off and we know who shut down the pipeline. I know you don't want to bad mouth Spike, but we know who shut it down 20,000 people out of work. And now we know how well you know me, but go right ahead. And now we become an importer of oil, where six months ago we were an exporter of oil. But the worst part about all that is oil goes into other things. Such as energy and all the energy costs are going up, and that's why your food costs are going up. There is a shortage of truck drivers that does affect some things, but the major reason is we're no longer While sufficient. Yeah. No, I Hey, listen. Is that part of it? Absolutely. It is kind of funny, though, in J. I appreciate the comment. I had to have a chuckle. Mike, you and I have talked about this many times. You, Dave, You've.

Some of you are so nice. It's unbelievable. I'm not as good as you think I am. And I don't know everything. But I know enough to try and make this program entries interesting, Donald. Well, here's the detail. The rain has got the gremlins going in the WJR Fisher building phone system so we can take voice calls this morning, but we're taking text messages and it's working. Just great. We answer a ton of questions, and it seems to be convenient and work for everybody. So rather than call us with a voice call this morning, you want to text us your message. Today's date is June 26 2021 I want to go back exactly 25 years to the day to June 26 1996 and I want to say congratulations. To a Detroit radio morning personality that began his show that morning. He began that show on WJR. He's been in that times flat. On that radio station for 26 years today, How about we both give a big congratulations to Paul W. Smith? With that said by you, Uh and I've said my little things on how great I think that man is what a legend he has become. But I'm going to ask you, Donald. When did you ever meet Paul W. Smith? When? When did you meet him for the first time? Yeah. Um, I I can't remember meeting him before I started working at WJR about 13 years ago. Now I may have, But here's what I will tell you being such a little radio nerd. I actually know that June 26 1996 was his first starting date Not because somewhere along the way as an anniversary, I wrote it down. But actually on that morning, I knew that this new morning guy on WJR, it was kind of a big deal. June 26 1996 and that a literal same typing of the also letters have popped up now for 25 years, as in today, But the first time I met him, I'm going to guess maybe 13 years ago. Were you impressed when you met him? Yes, You know, I was a salesperson for wjr at the time Account executive. So my job is to be working with our clients and making sure that you know they're happy getting their message out on the radio station and, uh, a lot of times we're working directly with the personality. And one thing I would say right off the tap that I knew about Paul W. Smith is he was a sales. Friendly announcer and, uh, you know, so from a sales guys for interview that was certainly a positive quality of work with a guy who was so aware, uh and and valued so much the sales process of the radio station and the clients we were keeping happy. Well, he is a true professional in the radio business. I have nothing but kind words to say about my relationship with him because I was at the station when he came Replacing JP McCarthy. And you know, I've never asked him and I will. Some day. Was it tough coming in and replacing a legend like JP McCarthy? It had to be He had to be nervous. He had to be worried. And he didn't have really much to worry about because he's still with us, and hopefully another 25 years. And, uh, that's our tribute to our own. Paul W. Smith on this Saturday morning. Congratulations, fall. W Happy silver Anniversary. All right. Let's read that text from the engineer that you were referring to. I'll read it on the fly here work for word, he says. Hi, Joe Tom from Chesterfield, and I'm, an engineer that formerly worked for a major Michigan based refrigerator company. From West Michigan. From my experience, at least half of all cooling adore problems were caused by consumers that have stuff in their compartment blocking the doors. But they didn't notice because they are hitting the door bins not sticking out the number. One rule for us was always empty the compartment and see how it works before trying to diagnose a mystery problem. And if the freezer is packed, and then it kind of gets truncated right there. He certainly is saying, you know, in so many times. The best solution is the simplest solution. He's just basically saying, Make sure it's not over. Packed. Yes, and that's true. But that man did not work for G E. I can tell you that right off the bat. You see this problem? The G E has was Caused by Excuse me engineers. They engineered a door closure system with a lower hinge that has a plastic cam on it. And as you close the door, the door lifts up goes over this camp and makes that final closure. That's a common thing as all service technicians. Know that for a fact, But I'd love to have that engineer send me an email. I like to be communicating with someone who is not on the payroll today can speak freely. To me and to our listening audience. And it would be interesting to hear his viewpoints on the way refrigerators are made today. Donald When we come back, we're going to be talking to a buyer from Royal Oak, at least via text message and via the radio because she's texted in her question. We're also going to be answering the question that was texted in by Leah and we could be answering your question as well. The WDR phone system is an outage format today so we're doing it by text message, Not by voice call, So text us your name. Name your city and your question and has simply texted to us at 808 590, Double D. J. R. "O V E. And they should immediately stop using the recall dishwashers unplugged them from the power source. And Cove will come out and install a second thermal protection device and replace the dishwashers heating element. Now these dishwashers were sold at home appliance stores nationwide. From February 2018 through May 2 2021 for between 2400 and $2500. So I'm guessing Joe. If you spend that kind of coin and the dishwasher that you probably want to take advantage of this recall in this free repair You know, Dave, I could hire a couple of immigrant little girls to come in and do the dishes, not pay the taxes on that income they receive. Be in real trouble, but I certainly would be able to afford it if I could afford that cost of a dishwasher. Well, um, as you said yesterday, um you know the Hollywood actors who, uh Make their homes look really nice for the magazines. They probably had these dishwashers and they're probably listening right now, or their or their agents are listening right now, and they're going to probably, uh, Take advantage of that free repair. My motherboard electronic controls, it could be having that as a problem. Mm. Now, if that if that's the case, you need to look up and find out what the cost is of a motherboard. For the dishwasher because it's acting intermittently. It's not getting the signal to pump the water out. Yeah, I'm hoping it's under warranty, But, yeah, it's got one year warranty on it. Unless you bought a extended warranty on it. If it is it over a year old. I think it's just under I was just thinking Maybe it was something with the holes or something like that. Well, if it was the hose and probably wouldn't drain all the time, but that it's in their mitten. It's not getting a signal. And now is the time to act. Don't wait until that product is out of warranty one day. And, uh, Gives you a little indication as how I feel about buying products made in America. So, so important, Okay. "Listening to W. J. R 7 60 am where Detroit comes to talk. We've been talking about sports and politics what we did over the New Year's and All things like that. And of course, there's always coveted being discussed. We could bring the round table. And while we're waiting for your calls, and Dave Riggers with us and Mike Parsons and Michael steps, my I don't think we got to hear what you were up to. Over the New Year's Eve R, sir. As you were pretty quiet. I'm not sure if that was the case for you as well. I think he's I think he's washing his hair right now. It doesn't know we lost him. Okay, Let's see you offer up the round table. You bring them in and then boom. He's gone. He's gone. I wanted to ask you guys because we hadn't talked about it. But with this cove it and the this new mutated virus. What do you think about this mutated virus that is now spreading. I think it's in three states now. California, Colorado, Florida All have reports of the The new B 117 is that Is that going to be the new buzz phrase for next year? Be 117 everything I've heard it is more contagious, but it's not more deadly. It's only it's only more dangerous just because you know it's a higher rate of infection. But I also heard that The vaccine will still be effective against it. So I'm going to stick with that for right now, because I remember when I first heard about the new, more infectious strain. I'm like, Okay. You're kidding me like someone's screwing with us right now. So You know a Zilong as the vaccine will still protect against it. Um, you know, all I can do is just keep washing my hands and wearing my mask, So, Yeah. If you can avoid it. You definitely don't want to get it. This thing was which 6 60 or 70% more. Uh, you know, like Leo spread contagious zah little deflating and defeating after spending a year. Uh, you know, indoors with the whole world closed down, trying not to catch this and then you know, before we even not the first one down, there's another one at our door. That's even more contagious Well, and news of it broke. Like a day or two. After the first vaccines were rolled out. We kind of had this, like, Okay. All right here, you know, the beginning of the end, and then the very next day. Oh, there's a new, even more contagious strain, So it's like God sakes, is that like when the new iPhone comes out, the city should buy the iPhone 10 the 11 comes be announced. The 11 and all the new features. It's gonna have that you won't have Right? Yeah, this one. Yeah. This one has a have his new ear buds that make your old earbuds obsolete. Do you find it interesting that this one is more contagious yet less deadly. Is that that? That seems really weird to me. Yeah. I don't know how. How much information they have on it yet, Uh, you know, I e think if more people get it, the likelihood of the number of deaths is going to go up. Just, you know, mathematically, you know, but I don't know. I don't know. I guess I don't know how severe the illnesses from this and it's obviously something that Everyone's gonna have to keep an eye on. And of course, don't they have to say that the vaccine will work on this one. Otherwise no one would get the vaccine for the first one. I mean, why would you bother to get in line for the first vaccine for covered 19, if right around the corner is another one that is more contagious. And if Felt she's out here saying, What the hell give it a chance That doesn't really inspire a whole lot of confidence. And after a year of hearing that masks work masks don't work. Keep 6 ft away. It's not that important. No, it's really important. It's hard to just here. Yeah. Don't worry about the vaccine work on both of these. Just you're good to go. Just get in line and get your get your vaccine. And I wonder because did you guys see this story from out of Ohio? The governor there, said 60% of health care workers are refusing the vaccination. They won't take it. They don't want it. Yeah, And you know, I know a couple healthcare workers personally who are skeptical of the vaccine, which Which did surprise me. But the more I think about it, it doesn't surprise me that much. I think just because for Seoul for for so long, the conventional wisdom has been that Vaccines take a long time to get developed, and you know they have to be tested and to not to be a little iffy of brand new vaccines. So from that standpoint, it doesn't surprise me that medical professionals are are leery of it. But the 60% number Is because I'd be curious to see Are those are those health care workers in the E R. Or are they healthcare workers at like, you know, a doctor's office where You know, the threat isn't as immediate, he says. At least 60% of Ohio's nursing home workers have refused to get vaccinated. What's the What's the reason they give? Um Everyone makes your choice but want to make it clear that between may not come back for a while. They did that They did not give a choice, but I'm sure you can guess some of them, but, uh, you don't want to, You know one thing. I mean, we're not gonna We're so not essential that we probably won't get ours. So the next year anyway, but, uh, right, you know, If you're concerned about getting vaccines, anyway, you know whether it's covert er or otherwise. Because the controversial anyway, um it would make you think and wonder if this new this new mutant virus is right behind it. He did you maybe want to get a little more research on that before Just signing up for two doses of Of this, and some people have got to talk to. Some people have gotten that they said the the side effects were, you know, I mean, they weren't horrific, but they were Tough they were, you know, they have an impact for a couple days. Well, this week will be the real test because the first people who the first round of people getting the second shot start this week. And I've heard the second shot the side effects for the second shot or the worst. So but you're right, Kevin. We're so far behind that. I remember I I told myself I was gonna wait to get the vaccine, but You know, I'm such a low priority that I think I'll.

"60 W. J. R to to to do all right, Tom. Dr Tom Riff. I sending me a text regarding the cacophony of covert confusion where we may be time to get him back down to talk about that started this week. Again. He's responding to me saying I saw doctor say Ram disappeared doesn't work. And now I see it's the only drug approved to use fork over it, So it's all confusing and we are stuck in the middle. Meanwhile, Wasn't very confusing. Last night, I thought a good debate. And I've just found that Dave Rigger is in the booth with Brian Morton. Which means we can take some calls at 808 590957 808 590. W. J. R. If you'd like to weigh in On the debate last night. So we have the we have the opportunity now. To to do that now. I was defending in a sense that defending but saying Dr Mark Wittmer. I should have said Dr Mark Mallory, as Kim lets me know. The governor's husband, who was dragged into the debate, not by name, but by her husband, as the president put it, and it's kind of a wasted space because the rest of the country doesn't know or care. About that whole situation. So anyway, I didn't mean to call him Dr Mark Webber. It's Dr Mark Mallory and seems to be an all around good guy, Meanwhile, not a good joke teller. But meanwhile We're going to take some calls. But Brian has a thing that I think that the news the national news people are news providers. Now we're with Fox Radio put together a quick one minute to peace on the debate. Here it is. That was true about Russia, Ukraine, China of their countries. Iraq. If this is true, then he's a corrupt politician. So don't give me the stuff about how you're this innocent baby Joe calling a corrupt politician Nancy Pelosi doesn't want to approve anything because she'd love to have some victories. On a date called November 3rd. Nancy Pelosi does not want to approve it. We are ready, willing and able to do something Don't forget. We've already approved three plans, and it's gone through, including the Democrats. In all fairness, this one she doesn't want people are making 678 bucks an hour thes first responders will clap for as they come down the street because they've allowed us to make it what's happening. They deserve a minimum wage of $15. Anything below that put you below the poverty level. He's legitimized North Korea. He's talked about his good buddy who's a thug, a thug, and he talks about how we're better off and they are have much more capable missiles able to reach US territory. All right. There's a quick montage. We have a lot of different cuts, but really, I prefer to be Talking with Hugh on so you can call us right now at 808 590957. Generally it's tough to get calls in because of the format in the morning drive and all the reports you need in information. To get your day started. But we're taking calls now. At 808 590957 808 590 w. J. R and we find Eric from Belleville. Eric. Good morning. Welcome to the Paul W. Smith Show on W. J. R. What do you think of the debate? Well, I wish just once thing was brought up. And that is Mr Biden. No Christmas now, Uh, remember when Obama and Biden We were sort of altering the calendar and they were goingto get rid of various holidays. And I mean let's have the joy of Christmas forever. That's what I want anyway, and also a lot of shop owners. If you want to take another point of view. Ah, do 80% of their sales around Christmas time, So they stay open all year for Christmas. Uh, that's that's the colder side of it all, but, uh, I prefer the joy of Christmas. All right? I don't know. I actually don't know. Thank you for your call, Eric. I don't know the reference. Frankly, I'm sorry to say, I don't know the reference about Christmas or not having Christmas in Obama and all of that, Interestingly enough Mark in Lavonia is on W. J. R Mark. Yeah. Two points and I have yet heard anybody because I want after the debate on Fox. President Trump my was cut off twice. And what happened was right. When he got near that two minutes. They cut it off for like, two seconds. And then he got, like, one more word and where it was carrying on, so let him know. That's number one number two. I think the biggest thing that came out of that whole thing is he lied and doesn't have a record of doing really accomplishing anything. And the biggest point was eight years of Obama and none of the things that he accomplished with prison reform and just everything for 30 years. They tried Teo to suffer for that. Signs of Bill. Hey, if you can't get to the go to the local hospital I'll get checked up, and then we'll pay the bill. I thought that's all that. I think it's very effective Mark. I'm glad you caught that. I thought it was very effective to talk about the eight years that he was in the administration and had an opportunity and it should have been clearly pointed out. For two years. It was a Democrat House Democrats Senate They had both So they could have gotten anything done. So anything they're talking about today. You have to say to him Well, when you had it all The president and the house in the Senate. What what, exactly kept you from doing these things? When you had it all. And and the other. Good point is, he's been there 47 years. How How do you say that now? All of a sudden, you have new ideas of things that need to be done. Thanks, Mark. One last caller Jim and Flint. You're on the Paul W. Smith, Sho W. J. R. Jim More evolved just calling in..

Years ago, Glenn Hagi started doing home shows in back Then it was a Coble. We do Ah, home show down there, and thousands of people go stop by and He was a big star even back then. And unfortunately he passed away here Three years ago, America lost America's handy on handyman. Let's put it that way anyways, Glen A. All right, well, I stood in front of a Bosch dishwasher, which was turned on it was operating. I had a microphone in my hand. And microphones pick up sounds from a long ways away. Anyways, I had a microphone in my hand, and I said to the listening audience is all seated in chairs out there. You know, this dishwasher is operating and they couldn't believe it. And I said, I'll tell you what I'm going to do here. I'm going to shut it off and open the door and I'll do it so quickly. You'll see the water splashing out of it. And I did, and people couldn't believe that it was operating while I was standing beside it. That's how quiet Bosch is. That sounds sounds good, Steven. Let me know how you're way I will likes it. "Show. On give you three hours. Radio. So does rush after us. So we thank you for being with us. We're going to get back to phone calls in just 808 590957 Chris read Wick is our producer. Dave Riggers handling your phone calls at our studio or rich Lisinski twists that absent dials. But Chris also in addition to lining up to guess for this show and keeping us on time while I tried to over talk, it is judges from time to time. We talked earlier this morning and I've got to Ah politicians for some of the year you said something right? I said it wrong. Remember, we're talking about number of teams in the Big 10. Yeah, I hope Jason's rolling on this because you said 14 and that's absolutely the right number. I totally I just remind them on the addition of Ah Of Rutgers to the to the conference and else my missing one of the other recent dead her relatively Maryland, Maryland, Maryland, Maryland, So there were those two that were added, and that's that brings it up to 14. Can you tell me The associate members of the Big 10 Sorry, is what that means. Just Ah, soc And now there are two schools that are associate members of the Big 10. What is no trading. Oh, sure. Okay. Yeah, the the other is Johns Hopkins University. But I really like Baltimore. Yes. So I did a member of the Big 10. Now What does here's another good one for you? You know the next remedy of Notre Dame, Of course, the fighting Irish. But what is the nickname for Johns Hopkins University? Yes. You'll never be asked this again. The rest of your life guaranteed. No. And and I know and I couldn't tell you. Here you go. You're ready, John. Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. So you'd think bird, right? Right, And then I could have copied the Orioles. So they are the Blue Jays, The Johns Hopkins University Blue Jays about that. Very cool. I didn't know. Yeah, the sports they play at men's and women's lacrosse, right? Yeah, them to say it's not real varied. Yeah, no, that's for sure. That in a full physical every six months, but, yeah, yeah, but the rate but thanks for everything again today I want to get to some of our dollars in here and put a lot of fun. Steven Warm blood. Able to get him again. I was just love hearing that man. Explain these these complicated matters so simply to us. I really do all the ones involving taxes and revenues and the like. It's It's not easy, but Stephen Moore does. I think a great job of getting it all together, so all right, let's see. Ah, I want to get back to the phones here. Let's go to Clawson, Rene Europe Next on the Frank Beckmann show. Thank you for waiting. Thank you for the final and pleasure to speak with you. Pleasure's all mine. Thank you, Rene. Hello one night alone out here. I'm sorry. I said I'm a fellow I've been Hi. Wow. Did you graduate from Osborne? See, Ali only went to sophomore year toe was born that our family moved out the warrant and I went to Cousineau. So I only got one year to Osborne. Did you graduate from Osborne? Yes, I did wonderful. Great places. You obviously lived in that area, right? I did. I lived in Detroit. What street? What street? Did you live in this time actually moved on right now. Oh, yeah. And I got special permission to go there from the school district, and the parents have always been a major in business music. Right? Well, that's that's good that they made sure you were able to pursue your passions that way. That's that's just great. And I'm really good people out of that school. Well, you bet your asses borns a wonderful school and it won didn't do They let it go into quite a bit of disrepair. But then there was work done on it. And You know, it's got redone as I can tell you. They get a lot of work done out there. Thanks to the generous people of Detroit and and suburbs who donated money to do it, And I just I'm so proud of them. Hey, thank you for name for the call. Appreciate it be well out there in Clawson, and now we're going to go into Detroit, D. J is next up on the show. Good morning, deejay. Good morning train. Good to have you on the show. Thank you. Sorry. I just want to say that the media is unfair to call the troublemakers at night. Demonstrators. Because Come on understanding The purpose of a demonstration is to be seen. And if you can demonstrate where will be demonstrated nightly nearby sleep. What D J. That's That's a great question. Number one and number two. How is it that these demonstrations turned into so many fires? No, that's you're not demonstrating anymore when you're set fire to the right. Yeah. These people are a tonight on that demonstrated their longest people. The lewdness of these markets. They're not demonstrative. Demonstrators wanna be seen? What? What do you think has to be done to change something like that? I think I would set a curfew. Wow. That's so that's interesting response right there. And how do you think? Let's just talk about our area because that's one that both of us know Well, clearly you're you're in royal oak right now. But ah Are in Detroit. I mean, and I grew up in Detroit. So we both know the city somewhat well, I would think. And I just wonder how whether you saw this coming whether you when you first noticed it. I mean, when one of this tension start rising up Oh, what a moment. Exactly The most recent tensions that you know, brought out antifa and black lives matter. I'm not talking about 68. We know what happened there. The cops overstepped their bounds, arresting somebody at a At a blind pig and that that began the whole the whole shebang. And it was awful, but we recovered from it. So you you, you know, back in the chemistry Demonstrations like one of King demonstrated he never demonstrated that night. It was always doing what he could be saying, right? That's a great point. Absolutely great point. So the only way you're going to be seen at night? It's what you've got to create some light, right? And so they got one of these things. That's why they're doing it, mate. That's right. Thieves. Even things include that night visited there that night because you don't want to be seen. TJ. I'm so glad you called. And and got your opinion out over the year to all of our listeners. Okay, Thank you. Are you afraid? Praying. Yeah, I'm here. Frank. I think I'm looking forward to playing football. How about you? Which spring? You mean 2021 or 2022 minutes after March Madness. I hope it's there. D J. I really do. But.

Talking about the unfortunate early death of Jamie Samuelson, who died of colon cancer friend of all of ours here on this show and the friend of all of yours at home the number to call in his 877 40 for Mitch, 877 40 for Mitch. For joining us right now is Dave Rigger, who has a Special topic of his own, that he wants to bring up and he's going to surprise us all with this topic. So s so Eric and I were talking before the show started. And this we saw this story and we wanted to know Kevin, do you smell what the XFL is? Cooking is the rock Is the rock gonna play in the XFL 1000? No, no, I think it's like ballers coming to life. The rock is now Part owner with another group Bluebeard or something like that Red bird bird or something of the XFL. Whoa! What are your thoughts on this? I could change things. I thought I thought the Rock was going to run for president in 2020 last last I heard from rock. Instead, he's had to pick up next become a part owner in the XFL. Yeah, so, And I think it was for $15 million that they bought. So that kind of gives you Ah little hint as to the the financial trouble of the XFL was in If they've got that whole thing for $15 million. They say that he bought a piece of everybody here. What a piece of it. He's part of this group now, so I'm just wondering what your thoughts are. Do you think Will it become, Um Mohr, like like it used to be in its first incarnation, like with wrestling with, although the names on the back of the jerseys or will it be like the or will it be more like it was now where it was kind of more, you know? It was football, but with some weird rule changes that were in place, by the way. If there's any owner that could play in the N the XFL, it's it's doing the Rock Johnson. Let's be honest, like it's possible we can get out. I've been hard to believe that he won't be out on the field owner and starting defensive end for one of the XFL teams like Well, Caroline, the Flint Tropics coach, player promoter, Absolutely Motor Thie. You know, I followed the XFL the first time around on you know for me once. Shame on me. I did not follow it very closely. The next time around. I Heard various sports talk show is talking about it. But Detroit didn't even have a team the second time around today. No. Yes, I was a little harder for me to get excited about the except l. I do like the ideas of these rule changes. I'm always thinking about what? You know what would make it more fun, But I think there should be ruled changes in and a lot of sports like You know, maybe defense and golf are a little defensive bowling. Maybe you know something that spice it up a little bit. Golf is hard enough. Why would you have what do you weigh What you add to golf to make it to make it harder? Make come about the game of golf, and we just don't know it. Well, maybe that maybe that would help would be very hard to play defense against my golf game. A very difficult time Predicting where my ball Mike, I'm interested Teo to know what type of defensive rule changes would you like to put into God?.

"Show News Talk 7 60 W. J. R. All right to the phones were going to go here in the final hour of the show at 808 590957 I found it Interesting. Robert Hall. Big baseball fans. I mentioned Spencer Torkelsson, the Tigers AA number one overall draft pick on DA He said. Yeah, maybe you can trade them dust for the Braves like he did John Smaltz. And I'd forgotten about that. That John Smaltz he didn't go to the Braves is a free agent. The Tigers. The tiger sent him there. The Tigers drafted Smaltz hey, went to Ah Waverly High School in Lansing Tigers took him in the 22nd round back in 1985. He would go on to become a Hall of Famer in 2015 and Ah, great career 213 wins over 3000 strikeouts. He also had 154 saves. And Ah, the Ah, the Braves, the Red Sox and the Cardinals were the teams that claimed him as the as he went through his major league career in AA. A brilliant where it was So ah! He was born in Warren and John Smaltz. That's who they want down Atlanta another John Smalls, by getting Spencer Torkelsson from US Bakery get just said. All right, let's get to the phones. 800. Ah, 8590957 but crisp Bread works on the line right now. I think he heard sports I was. I'll just say this. We won't be having him back on. That was that was too low of a blow. I can't settle for that. But the sensor Torkelsson like that. Yeah, that and and he's like, I can't wait to get to a tiger game. Well, me either. Yeah, You know, she didn't say he's anxious to get to a Braves game and they've got Shane Green down there, don't they? He's still with them. Yeah. Glad John Smaltz interview that that that that comment that gets him barred from the shelf. Sorry about area and area Dave Riggers. Also there another big sports father, we've got of the staff and I'll tell you what. We could start a sports talk show here too. We want it to David. Good morning. How are you? Good. Good. Good. What do you think? Torkelsson to the Braves? Well, you know everything. As we know, Most of the athletes that gets shipped out of Detroit always blossom with other teams. So It seems somebody of them do you know, But you know Shane Greene didn't though. He really Hey, had a tough time in Atlanta. He was good for like a game. And then and then he reverted back. Exactly exactly. It's not like Mac sure would side with Washington and, you know, look at him. He's a He's a save aces now. So for Verlander, who revived his career with Houston, Yeah, well as they were being in garbage cans exactly right, buddy Frank. Now that we're on this topic, I want to get your take on something because there have been so many so many of these sports leagues are, in fact, almost all of them, except I don't know that hockey has made a lot of moves on it. But basketball, uh, the NBA obviously the NFL. I've seen something on the WN BA that will have a black lives matter Patch or some sort of Ah court logo or something like that. I My question to you is Are you okay with there being some sort of The political messages sports or do you view it as an escape for people where they try to get away from all that? Well, I I think sports are due service an escape valve for people to get away from the pressures of everyday life. I've always believed that Ah, it's right or wrong. That's you know, everybody's going to have their own opinion about that s O. That's that's all Well and good. I'm not sure what they're gaining from it, though, Do they want protests in the stands to they want the fans protest ng during the games. You know, careful what you wish for. Here is all I'm saying by trying to be politically correct. They might be as they say, budding off their nose to spite their face. Yeah, And obviously that with a lot of these athletes will say, Well, look, we have a platform. And if we believe that we can influence some sort of change with our platform that we're going to use it, and I think that that's fine. But I think when you're when you're getting ready to play a game I have that's right. That's where the question Mark comes in. For me. It's like I'm not here to toe hear anything about any of that. I'm here to watch you play, you know, game for looking man you want You want to make political statements Get into erase this November. You want to play third base for me and have me cheer you on. Do it now and just worry about that. And not the political side of it. Chris, I have a question for you. So that brings up the question. What do you think about the athletes that air taking a year off? Especially in the WN Ba Teo for? You know, for black lives matters or for whatever whatever they want, Teo, you know, for political reasons. If you're taking time off if you're on if you're if you go on hiatus because of your so moved by something God bless. I mean, that's that's your prerogative.
