"Like we could all use some cow bell after the first hour of the show. Why, just like Cal Bell Feel like I've been hit with a cow bell? Have you really do feel that I really did I say, really suck that bad early on Really bad chairman said you were back when I was I said to you guys like I was doing radio and television. Well, I was still playing cat carried your ass. Well, that's how bad you are that you don't have to kill you. Do you? Do you know how many times the £2 of disagreement and choke football owner said that you were bad? He should have seen is a player early cut four times. I thought that was a better analogy. Well, I mean, that would have been a that would have been the CEO is a job to cut you. Football guy. And by the way did what did I say? I said Ted was the president of football ops. Yeah, that's what it is. You know, he's the president of the team runs. What's it different? Twice? Not to be president of grocery store ops. When you're president. When you're president, you're president of football operations. Your president, business operations. You're president of everything There's right. So I wasn't wrong as a third party listening to the conversation. Uh, Lot of semantics being argued about there. Yeah, well, that's what that is so very great job trying to find a different way to attack the consent roaring of your questions with semantics, Right? Look, that's a trick. You bought down the the questioner with semantics instead of having to answer or explain. What can I read you a tweet? This is really good this time, buddy, and you My buddy Lewis tweets. He runs one of the bears websites to bleacher nation bears, he said. That's good semantics right there. That's very good. Yes, it went over my head for a second. You didn't really good, really good. George is behind the glass actually giggled a little bit, so they rode up about. You know a lot of the interview, they wrote up a lot about what about the Packers. How he hates losing the Packers, how he needs to get better against the Packers, and he brings up a good point. He wrote this what he tweeted George McCaskey losses to the Packers hurt more than others. George McCaskey. After watching the Packers beat the Bears 76 to 41 this year stand pat change nothing in an organizational structure that has resulted in the Bear's losing nanite of their last 10 in the Syriza's You know what I mean? Like? Do you really want to change it? Are you really upset that things are are this bad? You say you hate losing to them. You say you need to be better. You've lost nine out of 10. You lost by 35 points to them this year, And yet you say, let's stand Pat. This is why the organization that had the meeting at Lambeau after a loss. Remember? Yeah, yeah, of course I get that Virginia was. Yeah, I was angry. Piss s so So the you said earlier. Something about why? Why do you think they remain so loyal to this class? People came to me yesterday and they didn't know the Dave McGinnis story after I tweeted that early in the day, So it's 1998 the Bears Go foreign 12 again back to back for 12 years under one E one he gets fired. Michael McCaskey is running the team. He's been running the team since the mid eighties. Not a lot of fans of Michael McCaskey. Michael McCaskey puts out a coaching search 5 to 6 people. And he ends up deciding on Dave McGinnis. Dave McGinnis was defensive coordinator at that time, and he was a former Bears linebacker coach under Dica, who's a great guy loved this great guy. Great football guy gregarious. Good guy in the front for a Bears coach, and he he announced that they hired him before McGinnis signed the deal begin its was still negotiating. Salaries for his assistance, which Michael McCaskey was trying to short change him on. So McGinnis ends up walking out of the building, not taking the job total embarrassment to the Bears. Virginia's so upset up Michael, who's her blood? Her son. She basically fires him, bumps him up to the chairman position and then goes out of the family for the first time in the history of the team to Ted Phillips, first time anyone's been president of the team. Outside. That's not a house, not a McCaskey, Ted. Hires a general manager, something they did not do since the late eighties. And gets a deal with the city of Chicago to build the stadium. Michael McCaskey was hated by Richard Daley. This like big time. I believe the McCaskey's made a deal with the devil that if If Ted got a stadium built, even though it's not a great stadium that he got a job for life, So they went from not being able to hire a general manager, not wanting to which Ted did. And not being able to build the stadium because the mayor couldn't stand the McCaskey family going in getting the job done in the city limits. I believe that it's been giving Ted this no. There's no kill mentality. He cannot be killed. Ever. He is here forever. Is that Is it business talk? Yes, That's my goodness. Time. Kill pass. Is that what you're saying? Got nine lives. You can't kill him. Okay, You've got a cheat code. I got it. I got it. But like That doesn't mean you can't.

"So you're not gonna win this press conference? But, boy, I don't know how it could have gone. Any further south like I mean, the concept we always talked about. We had this conversation always and always argued with cap about Ryan pace while he drafted with conviction, and I'm fine with a guy that drafts players with conviction, But I always said I'd prefer someone who drafts with competence. And when you talk about collaboration if you're collaborating on bad decisions, how important is collaboration? So it's like all of these catch phrases and all these important words and all of these things? You know the continuity if you're caught if you have continuity. But you're together making collaboratively bad decisions. You're really not making any progress so we could have done we role played yesterday. We've done things like what would they say if we spent four hours on the show yesterday? Hey, guys, let's come up with worst things they could say when they meet the media. What is the worst possible situation that they could do? We could not have topped with the Bears produced today. I said earlier in a tweet. I've covered this team. I grew up a lifelong bears fans. I was inside Halas Hall when the Dave McGinnis fiasco happened If you missed it, it's when they announced they hired him without coming to terms to his contract and not allowing him to hire his assistant coaches. So They announced he was head coach before he agreed to the contract and he walked out, and it eventually led the Michael McCaskey giving up his leadership of the organization to Ted Phillips. It was so bad To me. That's the only thing on par with what I saw. Today. It was tone death. It was incompetent. It was it was actions showing me the George McCaskey. Doesn't care about winning. I want to play you a couple things. If you miss that, George McCaskey today, and this is what I've been highlighting. I've always said okay, we could yellow pace for making the wrong decision a quarterback, but he was allowed to go rogue. If you had good leadership at the top. Your general manager can't go rogue and allow your coach not to know. And everything like that. And to do things secretly, So I've always yelled. It starts at the top. And this I believe, includes Mark Potter ashes. Questions regarding Leadership at the top of the organization and who impacts what in. This was part of the press conference to George McCaskey earlier today, George even with this year's playoff parents, the Bears have been in playoff seven times in 28 years since the end of the decayed era. Do a lot of fans that reflects on you. So how much merit is there to the idea that the Bears need people more rooted in football to make these football decisions than you and Ted? Well, Ryan and Matt are our football guys. I've heard it often that Uh, Had medals and football affairs and that notion is just absurd. Just doesn't happen. He's the president and C E O Bryan reports to Ted. But the idea that the Federer or I meddle in football decisions just isn't true. I know that, but that's not my question. It's not about meddling in the actual football. I got the field. I think the criticism is that you you are judging, uh, the coach and general manager, and I think people feel you that the Bears eat people more rooted in football. Make that decision. Oh, I beg your pardon? Um Well, um That's a valid criticism. My performance is evaluated by ownership and the board. That's how that process works. There you go, and that's my point. George doesn't know the business. And Ted certainly doesn't know the business and he does matter. No one is ever said the Ted medals in football. The problem is is there's no checks and balances and Ryan could go rogue in the most important thing. However, if they had a true football president, there would be more brain power up there on that stuff. The flawed processes that have happened before won't happen. Ted Phillips is a part of the group that makes the decision to hire Ryan pace. Whatever Ryan Pace is responsible. Ultimately, Ted is responsible for as well. Listen, I sat and watched it I took. I was texting back and forth with some other people. None of us could really. Believe some of the stuff we were hearing, but my concern from yesterday was realized today that their acceptance of mediocrity, Reza is the result. Of the fact that they like Ryan and Matt, and they're like of Ryan and Matt supersedes their performances as general manager. And coach and I think that that came across quite a bit today. And to me, it's not allude a unilateral concept. You can like this guy, but he also has to be a good evaluator of talent. You can like this guy, but he also has to be a guy that can That can develop that talent. So if you want to have a likability contest, that is fine, But you also have to have people that are competent at their jobs. And I think that when you listen to what was going on, it was quite evident. That that George and Ted both really like. Matt and Ryan. But can you separate church and state there you can like someone and then look at their performance and said, That's not good enough, right? Like I think you made the point that we're doing business and they don't win. Yeah, give give them some property together. And you guys can all have you know, some vacation homes near one another, and you can all be good friends for the rest of Eternity, But I just don't know how you look. Look, They asked. What did anybody else I wrote this down as well. Did anyone else get the feeling that maybe Ryan Pace had gotten a contract extension and I want to play that for you Next. Did anybody else hear that? Maybe Case hasn't decided to move away from. I mean, there are a lot of things that they're implied, like you always like to say. It's really weird. It's weird, though. It's really weird. The Ryan pace contract situation I want to tell you that coming up next nobody wanted to answer Where, When is your guy wonder? Your guys contracts run out. It's amazing 3323776 Ryan Pace. Ludes. The pass rush when it comes to his future with the Bears. That's next. You're Listeningto Waddle in Sylvia on ESPN 1000, Chicago's home for Sports. Black and.

"They had so many guys missing when Garoppolo and kill both go out. It's like, okay, well, that's basically their team. And then Debo Samuel was out with the mother with the cove it and all that stuff. But Green Bay six and to the Bears or five and three. You look up and down the NFC second place teams in the NFC Washington to win five New Orleans five into Arizona five and two with the Rams five and three. So you know the bears right there. They're still there for the possibility of getting into the postseason and In the NFL. I know in baseball. Everybody thinks That they go to practice, saying, Listen, we can we can win the World Series we can get to the playoffs. There's 30 teams and most of all, no, they can't. But you can't go in that way in the NFL. Everybody thinks when they start the season, they could make the playoffs. Even Jacksonville. Maybe. So, I mean, the bears Right now. They have a possible in people. And what's the difference? You could get to the playoffs. There may have been a host this week on the ESPN. It wasn't what's the difference would make the play offs. You're not gonna win anything. You can't go That way. You got to make the playoffs and you got to go day at a time. You can't prepare for a team beat him Prepare for another team Beat him. Things have happened. Stranger things have happened. Teams have gotten into the postseason. Who knows what's gonna happen to be nice to get a couple of guys healthy, But in the very least, it's great experience for guys who've never been in a playoff game. Oh, sure, sure. I mean, okay, So look, you know, updating the odds. Of last week before the season started, the Bears were 3 to 1 to win the division. There's 7 to 2 so Obviously it's a two team rights, right? So you have to wonder what the Packers they terrible one week. And don't look like they have a defence against Minnesota. Right? And then they feast off the Niners because the Niners got major issues. But you know the the odds to win the Super Bowl of 22 to 1 going in the season for the Bears because of that defense Now it's 28 to 1. I wouldn't put a dollar on 28th one because I've been watching these games, right? And we were with the Bears. But You know who knows? Like he said. You get in the postseason. You can win a couple games makes the voice you know, I I don't know what Nick Foles don't look like maybe get playoff Nick Falls there, you know, and Super Bowl M V P Net falls and is carrying the team of that point. On bits a tall ask, That's all a tall order, but you got to get there. There's no doubt about it. We'll see what happens. 3123323776. We'll talk a lot about the Bears will check in with J. D at 11 o'clock. We'll also hear from a guy that was supposed to be in almost wasn't actually for six hours was the Bears head coach Dave McGinnis, who does Some of the commentary for the Tennessee Titans will hear from him. They have brought out a cart. We have seen them take a neck brace out of the case. Obviously in these situations. You are phenomenally careful. You take every precaution that you possibly can In the hopes that it's just And he's standing up. Oh, wow. That is fantastic. Now he's gonna have to ride off. But Adam Humphries is walking to the car. And if you've ever lived through any of this at any level of football You know that is the greatest sight that you, Khun see? Alexander comes over to say something to him. NFL players respect the toughness of Adam Humphreys and point that is, that is really good news. Now he's going to have to be checked out and everything's not perfect. Dave McGinnis. It is not a worst case scenario, and we're thankful for that. You know, I'm just thankful they took those boards away and he was able to get up and sit on the car because there's a lot of whiplash involved in that when you watch the replay of it. Just very thankful that he was able to get up and walk to the car. So he is headed in Adam Humphries. Ball comes back to the 41 yard.

"I've got great respect for Mike Common for the Pittsburgh Steeler organization That has been that model of stability throughout the years and so and plus, I mean, these are two very Tennessee Titans that coast here. Great years. They've always prided themselves on being a very physical organization in the way that they play football. That's what Pittsburgh is, too. And so this is going to be a really typical a FC very physical game on Sunday, last one for Dave McGinnis, I got to get to Romeo Colonel's decision, the interim head coach of the Houston Texans, They scored a touchdown. They're up by seven. If they kicked the extra point. They go up by eight. He elected to go to for the two points and put him up by nine. They did not get it, Tennessee Comes down the field to get the game into overtime, and they end up winning it. Did you like that decision in the moment by Romeo Crennel, Other than the fact that it kept Tennessee in the game. Did you think that was the right football decision? Are you talking about? Do I like it as color analyst for the things I know you like it because it was a dumb decision, right? No, I loved it. Color analyst in Tennessee tight just looking at it as a neutral observer, You know, basically what you do, and you gotta look at it to wait. First of all you know, you know generally what you would do you take what's given And then you make the Tennessee Titans drive the field and and have to score a touchdown and have to make a two point conversion. Okay, That's what you do. Romeo Crennel has taken over a franchise that clearly was having issues won their first ballgame. He's an interim head coach. This is what he's trying to do is inject some life into his team. He was he had made a great comeback on the road against division opponents. That was for no. One time and his thinking was if I score two points here, I close him out at the nine point lead. They've got no chance to win it. So I understand both sides of it. But just as a neutral observer, if you put it on a neutral plane, leave everything else out of it. You, you, you kick it and then make your opponent drive the field with not a lot of time left to be able to score the touchdown and scored two point place. Dave McGinnis always appreciate you be safe. You be well. Zach. Thank you very much. There's Dave McGinnis. Good stuff on the Tennessee Titans perspective will break here will continue to update you on Chiefs and buffalo, and when we come on back, we do have a news brief But first upto update us with all the latest going on the world of sports. "Undefeated to start this football season Crazy game yesterday, Bone had a decision by Romeo Cornell to go for two points. Tennessee drives back down the football field, led by Ryan Tannehill, led by Derrick Henry. They got the touchdown, a tie things up, get it into overtime, and in overtime, Derrick Henry had the game winning touchdown and the Tennessee Titans. They're off to a five and oh, start six weeks into the season and next week. We finally hopefully get that matchup between Tennessee and Pittsburgh. Ah, Battle of 250 teams. Dave McGinnis is going to stop by always like when we get to talk to coach. The former coach of the Cardinal's also was a longtime assistant on the Tennessee Titans staff. Now does the Game's on Titan's radio, so we will chat about Tennessee's football team. The dominance of Derrick Henry rushed for over 200 yards yesterday. Ryan Tannehill just continues to shine. And what a story Ryan Tannehill is. Where Ryan Tannehill is a quarterback that was counted out. Was going in to be the backup to Marcus Marry OTA, Mario toe. Was continuing to be inconsistent, or you may even say consistently bad Daniel gets in early last year takes the team to the playoffs. Hymen Derrick Henry lied that team two NFC Championship game where they're up by 10. Up by 10.5 time or up by 10 in that game, they don't slam the door shut. And the homes and the chief's end up winning that football game. They go to Super Bowl where they ended up coming back from downtown again to the San Francisco 40 Niners. So Tennessee Do you consider them a Super Bowl contender? And last week, I probably would have said I don't know Super ball little bit early, but that team they're in the conversation. If you look at the Super Bowl conversation teams in the FC You probably go Kansas City. You probably go. Ravens Steelers. And then you got to go Tennessee. Those are the four teams No one else in the ABC Wass. No one else in the NFC South. No one else in the NFC North and Buffalo. I think Buffalo's going to win the F ceased. For the first time since 1995. I don't think the bills Are going to be a Super Bowl team. I just don't So if I had to give you forced teams to get to the Super Bowl in the NFC Casey, who I think is going back to the Super Bowl, But if it's not Casey, you get into the conversation. Man, it's Baltimore Pittsburgh. And Tennessee. So Dave McGinnis is going to join us in 15 to 20 minutes from now. Let me just update you before we chat, a little college football. And I got to get into the Bama Georgia game and also what Clemson did to Georgia Tech, which I think constant just scored another touchdown. It was wild. But this Kansas City Buffalo game If Buffalo goes on to lose this game, it's missed opportunities. They've dropped two interceptions. They punched out the football right before the end of the half, then miss the 52 yard field goal. And in the second half, they were down by three. It's still 13 to 10. They get the ball back, and Josh Allen was unable to do anything. Now Mahomes has the football. They're driving. They are at the Bills. 13 Yard line. It's fourth and inches. They're going to go for it. They get it. Not only did they get it, Kansas City scores a touchdown. So right there, and it's Darryl Williams on the rushing touchdown, and I thought it was a bad spot, too. I thought my home's got the first down. They said he was an in short. So in a snap of a finger, this goes from potentially being a tie game at halftime. So now you're down by 10 points up against the Chiefs. If Buffalo doesn't answer back here with the touchdown, I don't want to feel go. I want to touch down. You're not going to be Kansas City. If your scorn field goals If you don't answer back with the touchdown here, this one could get ugly and it could get ugly quick. Does. This is a quick move in third quarter. As 1 18 left. Wow. This is very quick move in third quarter and buffalo takes, you know. Now they're down by 10. Kansas City takes a 10 point lead as the extra point by Bucker is good, so it's 20 to 10. That's a described this game. You miss a field goal. You then make a stop. You get the ball back. You do nothing. And in Kansas City moves the ball right down the field on fourth and inches. You allowed a 13 14 yard touchdown run by Williams. And in a snap of finger you go from potentially being a halftime tied at 13 apiece. There now being down by 10 points. If you want to be Kansas City, you can't make mistakes. We've even seen Kansas City not play their best version of football last year. They're down 2040 Houston in that divisional round game. They were down 10 to Tennessee tend to the 40 Niners with 7.5 in a Super Bowl. And they still found a way to get back. So when you have an opportunity to play at their level or even take a lead, you got to do it. And here's the thing with the Chiefs. And he said this in the last hour we have not even see we have not even seen the best of the Chiefs this year. We haven't And that means the rest of the NFL should be nervous. Now, probably if he had a Super Bowl matchup right now, you want to see Kansas City go up against Seattle. That would be wonderful. And we got to see if the Seahawks defense could step up to the occasion and be like what the Chiefs defense was last year, which was not great throughout, but when they needed to be great, they found a way to be great. That Seattle offense, though it's phenomenal what they tremendous do at wide receiver and decay. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett..

"The NFL season is inching closer and closer. Who are the contenders and who are the pretenders in 2020 way have four downs to figure out your team's future each time now for first and goal on the Sack Guild show. All right. Today we preview the Tennessee Titans. We do so with former Arizona Cardinals, said coach former Tennessee Titans linebackers coach now a radio analysts. For the Titans, and that's Dave McGinnis coach Appreciate you doing this, so Paula's well, and when we look at Tennessee right out of the gate, they surprised a lot of people last year. I was optimistic about them going into the season. I didn't think they would get to NFC Championship game, though. How do you think they will look after the success that they had last year with now? Nobody's sleeping on Tennessee. Zach. It's great to hear from your brother. You know this was this was a fun team last year and really this football team under Mike Grable and John Robinson with owner Amy Adams struck. They showed a lot of grit last year. Our coach in this league For 31 years. I know what a roller coaster ride a National Football League season. Khun B. And when you start off two and four, you put yourself in a hole anyway, and four of those losses. You know they were big losses, so they were in a huge hole. My Grable made one of the tougher decisions that any head coach has to make you pull the starting quarterback, you know, on one that was on his fifth year option and had been a former number one draft pick, you know, here with the Titans. To replace them with Ryan Tannehill, and he made that move on this football team grab the whole of that movie. It was a bold move, and then the Titan started to play like a bowl football team. And from that point on after that Denver game, they really started rolling. They've got the running game Rolling. Arthur Smith was the first year offense coordinator. Zack did a tremendous job of mixing his veterans and his rookie season. Derrick Henry. You know, once we got the wand back from that four game suspension, he and Roger Saffold got solidified on the left side of that offensive line and that last that run toward the end of the year, you know, we have put ourselves in such a hole with that early record that every game was like a playoff game. Or about five games going into the end of the season. So it was really a lot of fun and those two playoff with at New England and that Baltimore those were really special. Is there any concern with the success of the unexpected success that they had last year that maybe some complacency will settle in here? Not at all back. This is a very grounded football team. Mike Grable and John Robinson are they're not about a lot of fluff and flash there about some really solid principles that go on. They get people in here that really, really like ball. They've got smart football players and Mike Bere able, You know, the championship that he won their New England is success not only as a player Then, once he got into the coach profession in this league, he understands the daily grind of it. You know, in all the years in Iowa's coaching, you know when I first started out way back in 1986 with my dick and the Bears. I mean, I was I was told really early on in my early coaching career in the league that every day is an interview for coaches and players, So Mike Grable is not going to let them get complacent. At all. That's the word that won't touch this team. One bit, Zach. Let's get to the next town. All right Coach Dave McGinnis. When we look at the Titans, you talked about it. Ryan Tanno came off the bench last year, and he had an impressive season. He was the comeback player of the year in the National Football League. Tell me why you're a believer and Ryan Tanno of why that was the right move to give him a four year contract extension. You know that, you know, vetting him coming out. I've done every draft since 86. And and you like the athletic ability, But what you really like when he started digging on him with his competitive nature, and and he's a very cerebral player, You know, he was an 88 games started. Miami and really, you know, it could be said that he was starting to have one of his better years when he got hurt. And you know as well as I do. You've been around the National Football League a long time. Just like I have a lot of times, especially for a quarterback in this league. It takes sometimes seasoning, not on ly the play quarterback, but also to get into the right situation. When he came here and agreed to be a back up and coming here and embrace that backup role wholeheartedly. He endeared himself to the locker room with his approach to it as a backup, and also just within his mental approach and his mental toughness. You know, he gave Marcus Mariota full support, but you could tell that there's a real fire that was burning inside of him. And he's not a guy he doesn't operate. You know, on a real.

"Question at eight seven seven Titans one. welcome back to the my great will show Titans radios head coach Dave McGinnis joins us now coach we've spent the hour with John Robinson going over the ins and outs of the lost Indianapolis but I want to ask you some discs defensive specifics from the game first of all another interception from Logan Ryan to in two games after nine in his first two seasons with the Titans obviously what's the difference in Ryan as to why he's now making plays on the ball well first of all there's no difference in Ryan I mean he's the he's his his game it is a is a very well thought out game it's a very middle game I mean he understands he he's very well versed in situational awareness he understood now both of those intersections came in the slot but they came in different defenses his first interception the first week that was his own defense where he got in phase and he knew where they needed on the sticks the second interception that that he had against Indianapolis that was man to man defense of the down and distance was longer he did a really nice job of plane may it and then with the option route really hipped up as we talk about getting hit up in phase you know with the with the receiver when he turned around and went T. Y. Hilton try to run the option right on it and T. wise when the best option right runners in the National Football League but the but Logan Ryan's game has not changed it's just the fact that he's been in position he situationally aware and then the other thing Mike he's got really good hands he made to really nice catches on those interceptions good points Titans not very big on defense especially where in that when they're in the five.

"In town. If not the right now, I remember early in the year. I don't remember if it was you Jordan ED's. Oh who was with me? I know said at The Danny, and Chris and Dan Wieder was on with me and disputed it. And I said this was I got Tober the most stable franchise in Chicago sports when I said it in October was the bears. They went out of your mind. What about the cubs? The cubs. The third pitching coach third hitting coach three years their managers a lame duck. Are you kidding come on the socks? Absolutely. Not the Blackhawks. They were getting ready to fire Joel Quenneville, and who knows where they're headed. The bulls have turned into a soap opera. So by far, it's the Chicago Bears. And now here we are few months later, crystal clear, but twelve months ago, if I'd made that stay. You are an idiot. Yeah. I mean, I say that quite often. But I I would've would've looked at you little nuts. But it is incredible to see how is this franchise is turn things around. And I guess it's hoped to that the other teams in town came hopefully, turned the corner and look bears. Not they weren't the model. Franchise in town by any means today's the anniversary of the Dave mcginnis Bockel, I mean that shows dysfunction you said at a press release that. This is your new head coach in isn't agreed to a contract. He leaves and got to go a different route. So that that shows you wear at times franchises been. And maybe if you're a bulls fan right now, and you're saying man, what is going on? This is a complete trainwreck. Mass. Maybe can turn around like you've seen with say the bears pretty cool. It's gonna take some time three one two three three two three seven seven six. I go lean some information from a great source yesterday. Who said to me that when they started the process with Matt Nagy Matt had a relationship with the new GM in Indy. Chris Ballard because he came from the chiefs. And he said, I'm just telling you he was going to be it was done. It was going to happen. And it makes sense, right? I mean, just on paper, even though he had brought Mitchell Trubisky in and they had worked him out of Kansas City. You're gonna take Andrew luck every time right over Trubisky. Right. He said when they met Ryan.

"Brought to you by Buffalo Wild Wings since we do have a guest coming up in about fifteen minutes of talk titans and Indianapolis Colts. We're going to get into that matchup and the health. The Marcus mariota is a big one and he did return to practice yesterday. So that's encouraging signs for the Tennessee titans. Not doesn't guarantee that he's going to play. But if he's practicing I would assume that he's going to play. It's Dave mcginnis who's going to join us, by the way, she gives his name to promote the Tennessee titans. Color analyst former coach for the Arizona Cardinals from two thousand two thousand and three and then he was the linebackers coach. For the titans. I believe two thousand four two thousand eleven and then I spent some time with Jeff Fisher with the Rams, and he also coached with them with Greg Williams wall. So we'll get into Brown's talk with them as well. So there's a lot to do there. But what this game preview? What sticks out to me on this one is the quarterback? Andrew luck in his career is ten ino- versus the Tennessee titans. He's ten now. And think about the way the colts start off the year one in five to now nine and six and Andrew luck is now playing great football in the first few games of the season. He did look rusty. But the most impressive thing about the colts. Even though the story of luck is great. It's the way that defense has done a complete one eighty with now defense being able to stop the run. And that Darius Leonard player is unbelievable. The rookie one hundred fifty tackles or something. So that's the colts to you. The colts should win this game. The colts are the favorite in this game. They had the help your quarterback and their defense has made big time improvements. But Tennessee is home. We'll see how effective mariota is. And this is the titans team that Derrick Henry, I don't know if he's played a better three games in his career in the NFL. What he's done the last three weeks. They've been sensational and that titans team. They've been sneaky good all year. They beat the patriots. They beat the eagles. Now, they've also lost the Buffalo Bills. So it's just what titans team shows up. But I think this game is going to be a close one. But if you go look for mariota, I have to roll with Danja lock. And he's never lost to the Tennessee titans. But in that building Tennessee is tough. They're very tough to be in that building. And they play with the Cernan intensity. And the players do drive off the energy from the from the fans, and there's a reason why they're six and one at home this year. Tell one after the game before the game. He's pukhan. And then after the game he's waving around the titans flag and get it into it with Josh Norman, it's a real party scene if they win. But that's a doer Di game you win. You're in. You lose your season's over now. Another big game. This weekend is Vikings bears. We'll see the bears approach it. It's one thing to say, oh, you're gonna play your starters. We'll see what happens at game time, but they're still alive for the two seed. But that would mean the bears would have to win. And then you would have to have the forty Niners beat the Rams, which is not likely so for Minnesota. It comes down to Kirk cousins. Kirk cousins. Needs to step up and deliver in this week. The players are most looking at our Kirk cousins, Andrew lock Marcus mariota. Those are the three I'm really looking at and also Nick foles into the mix because Nick foles has been sensational. Going back to last year beats the Rams plays even better against the Texans. And if the Vikings will lose that game to the bears and cousins chokes then at the eagles beat the Redskins, which they should. And you're playing just Johnson at quarterback. Nick foles leads that team into the playoffs start that people already have people say, oh, what are they gonna do? Carson wentz. Carson Wentz that quarterback for the eagles for the future. He's the quarterback. But the story of Nick foles the legend of Nick foles just continues to grow by the stat by the play. Those are the four players really look to watch for this weekend. All right. Eight five five two one two four CBS when in Texas Quinn. What do you got for me? You were talking about defense. To me of defense is the Baltimore Ravens. And then if you go back in the day well this year Chicago Bears. And then you go back in the day. You got Scott Goldberg eighty five bears. Yeah. You'll correct. And then the doomsday defense the iron curtain, you don't see that. In college football. Yeah. But here's the thing. You still need you still need a defense to win. You do like I'm saying, I I understand I always reference this when you go back to the Super Bowl last year the Super Bowl last year was remembered for offense. What was the biggest play of the Super Bowl though last year? You got me defense. It was it was been Brandon Graham took the football away from Tom Brady. Look at the game between the chiefs and the Rams earlier in the year as well. The scoreboard. It was one of the highest scoring games NFL history. First time a team scored fifty points and lost the game. But the Rams defense won that game because they were able to force turnovers against Patrick Mahomes at the rot calm. But then you got Clemson. I think Clemson very good football has got the best defense. They have very good defense. Alabama's defense is very good as well. And Notre Dame could play defense Oklahoma. They made some stops in the big twelve championship game. But are you going to be able to stop to Tunga by law? That's something that they're going to need to get a few timely stops. And that's what it is Quinn. And you're right. It's about getting the timely stop. You don't have to play defensive math mouse smash bound football and be heavy hidden for sixty minutes. You don't have to do that anymore. Now, there's happens. Look at the bears. The bears did it against the Rams a few weeks ago. But you just gotta get the timely. Stop the patriots. Last year's don't have a great defense, but they've been able to get the timely stop, Malcolm, Butler, Dante Hightower, and etc. So could still work. Appreciate the phone. Call though, Quinn armory in Atlanta. What's up? Good morning. Good morning. How are you? You got a wreck. Well, I'm gonna go. I'm gonna go opposite which I was talking about this and got a good defense in Alabama. And got a good defense. Wait a minute. Hold up. You brings only run right. You remember that? The Cowboys game linebacker. They're planning for the Home Depot, we Smith Vander too. No benefits goodbye. Yes. I know in that game Smith and van deresh both played a big role in it, right? Another name. No Damien, no way. You know? They've relying back that we don't for day. Stay going to control the game ios to autumn guys guys on the Clinton got good defense. Don't get me wrong with Notre Dame guys on that. They should have had when he played Notre Dame for Alabama in the big game. But they had controversy. No customers. So now, we why don't you go back to the Manta tale situation. Is that what you're saying? I'll tell you. I don't care if man had a girlfriend or not you were never beat in Alabama that night. Nah. Shot shot that in effect on the game. But. UC you you could see it now 'cause you saw the school, please. You think Notre Dame this year has a better defense than Columbia Obama got they got not actually I not come on come on all statistically total defense. Once it has a better defense now Alabama statistically. Just the same. Casey. You could you could have an off nine each. And every time I'm reprinted up against the break, though. That's what you call. Notre Dame Homer. Oh, well, if Linaker cooler, whatever her name was actually did exist and meant I tell didn't get catfish. Well, then they would have beat Alabama. Are you it seriously? Come on. Dave mcginnis joins us next Zeldin for CBS sports.

"And you're head of the defending AFC champions, Mike Twenty-three with the point Bendik, and you got the floor down up one of the most beautiful games. I've ever seen. Oh, my kiva. Dave mcginnis, then chicken, the juice and why not titans radios? So it's tight tunes nation. Derrick. Henry ran for two scores mortgage mariota threw two touchdowns of his own. The titans outplay the patriots in all phases of the game. Thirty four seventeen final in Nashville aka Foxborough, south a lot to unpack their how badly were the pets. Throttled Tom Brady lifted from this game with seven minutes to play in favor of Brian Hoyer. Greg it's a signature win for rookie head coach like able and a dollar check disciple. Ooh, break it down the end. The last time the patriots last by this much after November started was two thousand ten against the Eric, man. Jeannie brown? So then happen. I don't think even losing a game by fourteen points. More much less twenty four. I don't think the sky is falling by any means in New England a lot of things came into this. And they're going into the bye. I don't think they're the best team in the league. Either. I wanna just give props to Marcus mariota for playing a third straight really clean game. A great job by the coaching staff on both sides of the ball and the young players from the titans just being better like Corey Davis was better than Stefan Gilmore, he killed Stefan. Gilmore during the key portions of this game, Johnny Smith who we haven't seen a lot from made a lot of plays a Dory. Jackson was awesome. Josh Gordon ended up with four for eighty one. Adoring Jackson really stuck with them talked about their two thousand seventeen transact. That's what I'm saying. They're young players were just kind of the better players. They were the best players on the field in showed. Let me ask you. This is Tom is Tom Brady a problem. No, no. I don't think. So this this game. I mean, he's not Tom Brady this year. He's about it. But I think the reason Tom Brady was Tom Brady is more upstairs and timing and being in sync with your offense and the the entire group. And that to me is what's the problem this year? It's not it hasn't. It's not like it's physical skills to me are much different. And I don't actually see a missing today. They lost their left tackle Trent Brown. They didn't have their all pro tackle or guard. Rather shack Mason they were given up plays. And I and I also I mean, they were given a pressure. But I also think it was playing another bell check disciple where they really took away. The I read that he has. And that's when Brady is so good, and they were disguising coverages, and they threw the kitchen sink at just like Matt Patricia did in week two. And he held it a little too long elements dropping passes Gordon dropped passes. It was it was just like a lot of everything. Josh Gordon was hurt in this game too. Wasn't. He hurt his finger at his he said his fingers were hurt. And that's maybe one reason why I had some struggles with droves, Mike variable. There's obviously a lot of DNA. Here's Mike rebel had his best years as a pro with the patriots got traded to the chiefs and had a falling out with Bill for a while. I guess they patch things up, but there's some bad blood. Speaking of bad blood, Malcolm Butler who got praised from. Tom Brady after the game also Dion Lewis who wasn't shy about talking about his thoughts about the game. And the two teams afterwards as well..

I think he's been doing just fine in that regard many. Yeah. Yeah. I don't think I correct caller three one two three three two three seven seven six. We'll see you next Friday come by. And see us though, if you can make it up till Libertyville see the whole station it's going to be a blast. So it's great. He was twenty years ago. Now where I'm getting ready. I was working down the Dowd already accepted the job. We're just talking to the guy from the thirty for thirty podcasts about the steroid thing. I covered Mark mcgwire's sixty first and sixty second home run to the pre and post game show for the cubs radio network in Saint Louis, those days remember that Steve Trachsel gave up see has two big, Matt. So. After that series. I flew back to midway, and then I took the train downtown to here to state lake, and I did the interview with the guys who are going to run the station here and get hired to be the bears report about that. And I got to finish out the covering the cubs covered. Cubs and giants game one sixty three and the twentieth. Anniversary of now, another game 163 this right? Just played. And and then I finished covering cubs in a Braves in the NFL DS cubs got swept in three interview. John Tom glavin for the pre-game show. And then I came down here to the radio station covering ago now one eight years ago, I started in December of ninety one of the worst fair seasons. I've ever caught. Twenty years ago, the ninety eight Wani's last last year. Yeah, he was. Start that one on now that was ninety seven ninety seven. Yeah. Ninety eight was the year. You guys beat him in the think you're with Bill. Yeah. Twenty twenty Jerko had a big play the gig. Right. Milburn game. Stop trial Robert Chauncey on the. That's right. Robert shawny after Kurdish subpoenas off was tired fatigued because he held out of camp. Oh, okay. Fire away. Boy, Wani was a broken man by the end. We fumbled on the first player that series that we took lead. We fumbled on the first play Jimmy Smith were covered it thank heavens. Otherwise, they get the ball. Is that right? And it's gonna be over. Remember that? I remember I was on the field. I know tie Haluk also gave us two fumbles recovered. Appreciate Italic, and his wonderful can't believe it's been twenty years. If you think about that like eighteen month period. Repairs football ending the ninety seven season. Like your co said they started Wednesday. I think they won foreign twelve bolts ninety seven I believe they did. Yeah. And then they go foreign twelve ninety eight then they go out and try and hire a coach oh at the end of the ninety eight season. And that's when they wanted to hire Dave McGuinness, the former linebackers coach, and he was the DC in Arizona and. He wanted the job any basically accepted the job that they had to negotiate salaries for his assistant coaches, and they don't want to pay those guys and wanted him to lie to them and tell them that their contracts weren't three you're right, right? Right. They'd already recorded his voice mail message. This is Dave mcginnis office of the bears head coach they had already sent out a press release announcing the press conference to introduce him. And he left the building he left the building to go back to the deer path Pathan to everybody goes to the your path. Gloom. Actress stay there till I got him. So we're all working for separate radio stations. Mazer me, Dave Kerner. And it was a sloppy cold icy whatever late December early January genuine ever was in January. We Dave mcginnis his car left. We all ran to get into our cars and to follow their path about that. See I mean those. The bears pretty well in seven and ninety seven. Foreign twelve in ninety eight and then they couldn't hire the coach couldn't I wanted. The job was at the buckle. I know what was worse that or letting Bruce Arians get out of the building. That's worse. That's we were watching all time. You'll enjoy this year the year they were doing the the coaching search ninety eight it was the first time. They had said we want to have all the candidates speak to the media because it was a part of the interview process, the mccaskey's were recording their press session with us to see how CoR presidential and head coach worthy. They'd be that it was part of the deal that they wanted to see how they would conduct a press conference Girons turn came up. And you know, he's very wide. I guide. Danny's Zetter ask. I turned to Bob legare right after his press conference. They got that guys that get the job. And then he was the guy they ended up high. After McGee mcginnis said, no, I get it. Yeah. But after mcginnis, that's right. They turned a dictator on dick out into the playoffs. One year. Who is a crazy guy from my Gunther Cunningham Cunningham. Yeah. The glasses. While. Twenty years. Well, a lot of memories next week. And a lot of old voices familiar voices. We'll be back on the station. So Austin's in Libertyville who's karma? I'm station. "I mean on surprised they got Jacksonville down here in the end zone. You'll get up here. In Atlanta, scrimmage in a minute. Gipson checking back in he had gone out for a minute. Patrick safety. Henry fourteen Russia's forty eight yards. He's done most of his damage on this drive. Second and five at the twelve. Mario to here's Henry at right guard his way to the tan. Tackle made thereby Jones third down at three. If you're Matt leflore in this situation, thirty three at the ten Dave mcginnis, what kind of call are you looking for action? We've got a packed in. There. You got impact in their big time. You know, your field goal range, obviously. Packed in saw what happened last time? He play accident. Louis is in the game. Henry out on thirty three. Two tight ends to the right receiver either side. Play fake. Mario two roles to his right. He fires for the end zone. The ball is caught. But out of Al Davis it but out of bounds and then Ramsey immediately starts join with it. No flag thrown stop four to go. Some extracurricular is going on as now on his way in his suck up. I remember this is fourth down in three. So at offsite or a running into the kicker would continue the drive. Suck up the lead twenty eight yards, right? Ramsey jumped up side on the last field goal attempt. He stays put suck up kicking us up and his kick. If good. Four of six to go in this game.
