But what i'm saying is you could make up for the loss of a receiver. It's still a huge loss if you lose chase capable but najji harass you. "Thursday night football guys. I wanna ask you which team this is. Not really this game. But just in general between the two players who were you more excited to see. Play in the black and gold. Melvin ingram or trades her. Brian will serve with you. Melvin ingram. I love lloyd. Trae brings but melvin. Ingram is really exciting to me. I love the fact that he was lining up at tight end today in practice. It it just seems like this guy kinda gets it and when he's kind of a team i kind of guy i feel like it with a whole you know. Maybe i've invented this in my head. But with a whole justin houston situation where they talked to him. I and he may may or may have not had some demands on guarantees of playing time. But that's or because the money was the same between the steelers and the ravens. But what what. I was thinking here is that this guy just seems like he just fits in the system. As far as low key fits in the locker room just fits in. If he's healthy he's going to be a lotta fun so i can't wait to see number eight a big man wearing number eight true dave. I'm going turner. Because i feel the melvin ingram is more of a known distant just the way i look at him. You know. I just my own personal feeling and i still and because there's so much questions on the offensive line I'd like to feel much better about turner so i'm really interested to see what he can do. And how we can play with the players next to him like if he lines up next to quadrant green to to start the game. I want to see what the two of those guys can do together out there. I'm gonna traynor wooden. i'm gonna go with traynor would basically because of the positions that they play over. The steelers need a lot of the offensive line. Generally if you're the starter dolphins line you play hundred percent of the snaps but then when you're looking at the defense and secondary and everything like that where there are opportunities in some package for players to get on the field otherwise or to also make a splashing special teams. "He wasn't very accurate snapping the football which is pretty rare especially for a guy that was an all pro and pro bowler as often as he was so ben burgers pretty good at handling things like that but of course we saw in the playoff game. The steelers gave up a touchdown. Cleveland browns right away because an errand snap dot cannot happen. Plays like that and games period. You're giving up a defensive touchdown. It doesn't matter if it's in the first or fourth quarter dot is just a shot in the achilles heel and something. The steelers definitely had to try to overcome and clearly they didn't so the steelers cannot afford. Fumbles between the center quarterback exchange. So this is going to be a huge couple of weeks for kendall green to figure it out before week one because if not he won't be starting and bj finian jc has our are not good enough. Kindergarten needs to figure out those snaps and he needs to figure them out in a hurry. The next guy the oftens line. That is a very big question. Mark is one trae. Turner the brand new guard. The steelers just recently signed formerly of the los angeles chargers and the carolina panthers before that it the steelers managed to get the carolina panthers version of trae turner. They have very good gar in their hand. Five consecutive pro bowls returner is. He was a captain that team to he is someone that could come in. And if he's that talented could change the steelers offense align for the better that is asking a lot though because that trae turner of his los angeles charter. Days was not very good. "Is wednesday. Showed the sound. Quality is so much better than the normal shows because normally he's live. I'm not live due to some scheduling issues. I am i was not able to go to the spotify green room as typically do in talk to some fans and to be quite honest with you. I was really hoping that the spotify green room app would give my of a voice. And i've talked to some great people and i'm not saying that's bad but at the same time i always. I thought it was going to be a little bit better. Just being completely honest here. I thought it was going to be a little bit better so with that said i i decided a scheduling conflict anyways. Let's do this old school leads. do it old school. And what do i mean by that. We didn't do one story every hour. Based on the fact that. I didn't want a story to publish at eleven pm on the east coast time. I felt like it would be a waste of an article. So what i decided to do was to have it be a multiple day where there's a series of stories and will house all those stories in one specific spot on the website so tomorrow probably around noon. I will have on the website. The official training camp confidential stream. Now the stream just means it. All the stories that go into the confidential will be in that stream and you'll be able to find them on one easy place and i'll have that they will never move. It's called pinned on. It's a lot of names that i just rattled off. I don't know i miss them. I know i miss them so you have. These players lost in. That immediately took everyone's expectations and kind of push them down a little bit and then on top of that. It was the inexperience at certain positions. The offensive line with all those players were lost. You talk about the inexperience. I'm alex high smith who has never been a starter in the national football league at outside linebacker. You also had the narrative of aging quarterback with ben rothlisberger going into his eighteenth year. Thirty nine years old can get the job done and we know that they all steelers started eleven in last year in the nave squandered the rest of the season away in december outside of that win against indianapolis. That was injury related So the changes on the offensive line. They kinda somewhat knew that was going to happen. But they didn't plan on the castro so some of those changes they counted on sunday. Didn't i think they're better offensively. I think they're a little a little less ferocious on defense. Let me get a quick hit on the other teams in the division. Let's start with the bengals. What do you expect well until they show that they can move up to be a five hundred ball club You know it's all wait and see. It's kind of like the browns. Two years ago the brown show me. They could do it again. And they did But i mean like joe borough. I think he's going to be a fantastic quarterback. I hated the see the injury last year. Hate to see that happen to any kind of promising young star. I think they'll be better. But i mean i think. The browns are legit and the ravens the ravens. The ravens are very much like steelers. Even when you don't think they're going to be very good. they're good that's just. That's a selected our organization. But there's no reason to think. Look i'm not going to sit here and pronounce the steelers going to super bowl. But as i tell everybody. Dan i mean who would have thought they'd start eleven. Oh last year who thought they'd go. Twelve and four and win the division. I can tell you not too. Many people certainly around here and my feeling has always been as long as you have number seven. "He said kevin johnson had been moving from his natural right guard. Because of the presence of dave decastro would to castro's with decastro release datsuns future at right guard. I'm i'm going to my me to answer. I want get i go ahead. My answer is i think they're going to keep him at left guard. Because trade turner is a natural right guard and what he's played his career. And i think dotson is fine either way but i don't know that that set in stone i think all let's just say this i didn't have this as one of my five because i had other things that are more important but this would be one of those training camp questions that we would get that. It'll work itself out in training. Camp is dot dot dots moving to the right with with turner or something else that the left or are they gonna put turner and where where to. Castro wasn't keep dotson where they wanted to. Because honestly i could see dotson and szucs working well together a battery while again. I don't know so that's just one of those things that you know. They're going to figure it out. I i was right. Where you were with that one I think that dotson has more swing to his game than he had to have. He played a rocky play both last year. Yes so I could see if it worked out. He would stay at left guard and let trae turner play the right guard. But yeah that's why we go into me. That's why we have training camp. That's where we figure these things out. I can't remember who brought this up if it was another commented on the website or if it was jeffrey benedict comments of an article but the issue brought up where someone was criticizing kinder- green for only playing only having four games at center last year. Okay here's the deal. Kendrick green could play center or guard. I i need to look up. Who the name. There's another lineman for illinois. Who's going back this year. That was also a very good linemen. That could play center. Who could play guard but not as good as guard is what kendrick green offered so the question is do you get your two best lineman out there and even the one of them even though greed might have been the better center he was just by far the better guard in order to get them into positions. That's what you do. And that was that situation so some people that are like oh kindergarten didn't pay enough so it's that's why it's because of trying to get your best players on the field. All right. let's get right into things. Everyone is excited. I can tell that steeler nation is starting to kind of wake up again as my writer die crew on twitter. I put out the tweet. And i said okay mailbag time. He wants to have some questions. And to my. Gosh there's a lot. Everyone wants to talk about. Melvin ingram and rightfully so in case. You didn't see monday. The steelers were reportedly signing. Melvin ingram on tuesday. That became official. They release two players. They also brought in a tackle formerly of the indianapolis colts instead of bolstering their lineup. A little bit melvin. Ingram is a player that a lot of people are curious about and they asked the question which is how do you think he fits. And the first thing. I want to make sure it's very clear. This is not in any way. Shape or form. Melvin ingram being placed on the steelers roster is not in any way shape or form a demotion for alex highsmith. Not at all just like last season. When alex smith was drafted it was not dude as a demotion for bud to free. This is not a case of you know when the steelers strategies misused during yet sammie coats and martinez frying kind of going back and forth about twitter was not the case. It's not the case now. Either alex highsmith's going into his second year in the national football league in no way shape performance anymore gonna say he's a veteran he's an entrenched starter. He is going to be learning. As the season progresses everyone with a brain in between their ears should know this. And it's it's going to be smart that it is smart that the steelers go went out in found valuable leadership and experience at a position of need. The pittsburgh steelers the two positions. I think most would agree with us. The two positions especially on the defensive side of the football that are glaring when it comes to so thin in the in the depths department. It's outside linebacker and then quarterback but it's different quarterback you have depth is just unproven death in other words. You have occur brown undrafted rookie. You have james beard. We don't know a ton about him based on the fact that he hasn't played that much and then you have some other players justin lane. Even they have depth. But it's unproven death on on the outside linebacker depth chart. That's a different story altogether on the outside linebacker depth chart you have nothing. The coverage is pretty bare. You have obviously t. J. watt alex smith. You had cassius. Marsh in quincy rochet six draft pick from temple slash miami the u. That's it that was it. It wasn't even a potential thing. Yeah quincy rochet. You're like okay. Maybe he got was sixth round draft. Pick for a reason. He's a six round draft. Pick if anyone thought that he was worth more or worthy of a higher slot they would have drafted him. They didn't six round draft pick into the dealer. Said we need to make a move. They released dave decastro. They free up cap space. And you bring in a player who i again. I'm not claiming to be an expert. Here but melvin. Ingram from all accounts that i've read and people that i trust is that he could be the perfect number three tass rusher for the steelers. Let me give you a couple of reasons. Why number one. This is something that i like. How hot is that. He can play both sides. He is not a player that has to always rush from the right or always rushing the left he can play those sides. That is huge. Checkmark number one. Another thing is that melvin. Ingram is experience employs. This guy he's not thinking about someone. Like cassius marsh or you think about ola finian pass. Where did they struggle. They struggled in setting the edge. They just weren't big enough. They just aren't strong enough. That's not melvin ingram. This guy can play the run. He can set the edge. He knows exactly what's asked of him. He will be just finding that department. Kenny rush the passer. Absolutely absolutely in jeffrey benedict. "We were kinda worried at caches. Marsh and quincy rochet as the primary backups at outside linebacker. But now melvin ingram. Is there in full with alex. Alex smith and t. j. watt. So really it is a beautiful day. The steelers defense got better and this team took a step in the right direction. I am thrilled. I am happy and who knows. Maybe there's some more moves to be made before we get to week one but anyway getting to the real topic of today's show the pittsburgh steelers being the most over hated team in the nfl. It's it's one of those things that have been recurring all off season long Just just the voices from the national media even the local media you you hear this day in day out. The pittsburgh steelers our team that sh- supposedly is one. That's about to fall off a cliff but some who covers this team on a pretty regular basis. Daily articles Couple podcasts a week. Someone who's reading all the rumors learning about these players seeing how everyone's health is doing. It doesn't really seem like this is a team that is about to fall off a cliff. This is a team. That's built to win here now and trying to take home a championship in the twilight of the ben rothlisberger era but still it is this constant bashing from the pf fs of the world or really you just name it any sports talk show. The last couple months is basically just been writing off the pittsburgh steelers some non factor and that just is not fair. This is a team that looks to be in great shape heading into the twenty twenty one season the fact that all these outlets are trying to put a pin on pin in. The steelers is pretty interesting to me. Because i think it goes beyond just a that kind of content. Kind of getting getting your cliques. Getting those numbers up. Of course you put the steelers anything especially negative and it's like throwing gasoline on a fire. Those numbers are going to take off. But i genuinely think a lot of these. A lot of these national media types want to just say the pittsburgh steelers are bad team. And i am not seeing it i am truthfully someone who can look at a picture without any rose colored all in this case black and gold tinted glasses on. If i look at as just a by standard looking at this team i still think there are really solid football team especially if they stay healthy but for whatever reason people want to say. This is a bad football team and i really just just makes me laugh in all honesty because it just does not stop at all. It's just been the constant bashing this entire offseason and most of it has been directed towards ben rothlisberger and the offensive line starting with the offensive line though for as much criticism as that unit gets the steelers completely revamped that unit gone or marquees penalty dave decastro and alejandro villanueva. The old guard is no longer there. The steelers completely retooled the unit yet. People want to bash this team saying that. It's gone worse. how can you say that one. This is a brand new squad rolling out on the field. Left tackles a brand new guy in two weeks before he was a right tackle before left. Guard is kevin dotson who steals viewed as a backup all of last season despite being the best guy in the field when he was in the line of due to injury issues. It's matt filer and others at center kindergarten green. I guess is probably the biggest question mark but he is an athletic stuff and someone that you take over the job probably in training camp then it right guard trae turner who i if he's healthy like he's claiming he is will be a significant upgrade on injured david castro who all likelihood probably doesn't even play in twenty twenty one at all and it's probably mulling retirement for my if we can take all reports at face value and then at right tackle zach banner who looked pretty good in a half of football last year before he tours. Acl this is a brand new offensive. Line trash it as much as you want but saying it's gotten worse or whatever from last year that simply isn't fair because they've completely retooled his group are. They're these big time flashing names. Not yet i think kevin dotson could kind of develop into that if trae turner is as good as he was before a in. La yeah he could be an absolute stud to and again. We don't know what kendrick green is. The tackles are all right. I'm not saying they're the worst tackle tandem in the nfl. Though that's that's the last thing i'm gonna do but yet again the over hated pittsburgh steelers offensive line is getting buried and we haven't seen them play. It is not a fair thing for so many of these outlets to continuously be doing is just tearing them down saying how bad it's going to be. Yeah there's a ton of question marks. I agree with you. There's a ton of question marks. But right now i think it's fairly simple to look that unit be like well on paper with a new scheme new offense aggressive mindset and aggressive blockers at the very least they should be a good team running the football because those guys get after it in the run game. They're downhill guys that you're gonna push around. Perhaps ben might have to take a couple more hits this year but even in that case. We do not know how they're going to work. As a cohesive passing unit yet and to say this is the worst offense align and football which in some rankings that have been coming out the last couple of weeks is exactly where the steelers relying ranks really is not fair. I think this unit has a very very good chance of being improved from what it was last year but continuously the steelers are being slagged. I think that unit will definitely prove people. Wrong and they'll be something exciting to watch especially. Rg harris who i guess would be the The flagbearer when it comes to success of the offensive line if he goes off and hasn't outstanding rookie season as a running back. I think that's a huge testament to the offensive line as well as the talent of najji harris but so many people want to say. Oh he's just going to struggle. 'cause the offense line socks if he doesn't and there you go you can just point to those numbers and and it's one of those things you can kind of look out for to kind of gauge some of the success success of the offensive line as well as the sack numbers have been rothlisberger and how long he's able to hang out in the pocket which could be better brand new scheme brand new coach brand new guys on the offense line. Slagging them really. I think we're getting a little too carried away with that And it could bite some people in the rear end and get them featured on old takes exposed for having a prematurely bad football takes all sports takes in general but That's something i think. People are playing with a little bit of fire on another guy. Of course that is being overheated. Is benjamin todd rothlisburger. The senior pivot for the pittsburgh steelers. It's all been about the offense. It's all been about ben rothlisberger conditioning. Which by the way can we stop by. Now i mean my goodness. This guy's going into his eighteenth year in the nfl. He's thirty nine years old. Were still talking about his conditioning level. The guys won two super bowls. He's been to. I am fully aware of how things ended last season with the afc wildcard playoff loss to the cleveland browns at heinz field. You don't need to bring that up but we're still after all this time. Talking about ben roethlisberger's conditioning and nutrition holy cow. Give me a break. i get that. He's not always been in the best shape. I get that. Sometimes he's relied on his god given ability to go out and make plays but still everyone's talking about is conditioning and then his overall ability to play the position at a high level You know you can talk about top ten lists you can talk about. Just the fan base. In general suggesting that benz done that. He doesn't have it anymore. And that's that's everyone's prerogative but at the same time that's been a huge talking point with the pittsburgh steelers this off season. Also everyone's talking about the wide receivers. Are they going to be able to catch the football this year. That's kind of an important skill set to have when you're a wide receiver or tight end in the nfl. And that's still something. Whether you're talking about eric hebron whether you're talking about. I've seen a lot of people talking about juju. Smith schuster fumbling. That's been an ongoing narrative. Still there's been a lot of people talking about deontay johnson and how much potentially as whether to talk about fantasy football where they're talking about actual live game play but still catching. The football has been a talking point. Holy cow has there been enough talking about the offensive line. Totally new look for this offensive line. You think about it gone one hundred villa nueva and left tackle. You're having szucs a core for think about left. Guard is kevin dotson. That should be the only player. I guess you've says an incumbent. Even though he didn't start their last season that was mad filer. Who left via free agency to l. a. The center position. We're not sure. Is it going to be third round. Pick hendrick green from illinois is going to be. Bj finney people still considering. Jc has to be a viable option at the center spot. I don't know right guard was going to be dave decastro. He gets released. he's hurt. He needs surgery on his ankle. Insert trade turner veteran still has a lot to prove not so much on the fact that he had five pro bowls in his timing carolina but the fact that last season for la he was awful. He was awful and then right. Tackle zach banner. He won that job last season. he's going to be there and he signed a new contract. This offseason totally different in. Everyone's talking about that. They're talking about the offensive line. How are they going to match. What's the offense going to look like. They're talking about the new office coordinator and coaching staff in canada. It's his first time calling plays in the nfl. They're talking about. Adrian klemm his first time at the guy played in the league by the way of. Casey didn't know that he had very successful offensive lineman but he was an assistant under shawn. Cigarette for the pittsburgh steelers now. It's his first time being able to say that he is the man in charge along the offensive line. All of these talking points have just been about the offense. I literally sat here as i was writing my show. Nuts thinking where of the talking points been on the defensive side of the ball in there might have been a few minor ones. You're talking about replacing players. Like bud depre- mike hilton steven nelson. All those are. There's a viable narratives. But they have not been as loud as all the talking points around the offense suze. What she wanted about the offense and people will talk about how nause harris in the running game are so important in paramount success. It is however it still all about the defense. i'll reiterate the headline of this podcast. And that is the twenty twenty one steelers will be defined by the defense. Not the offense. "Newton is and you know i. I think that you know forty dollars. I think are high trae lines. i mean. obviously that's why they drafted him and just fields is a guy that will start definitely start at some point during the season. I think it really goes justin fields. It goes justin fields then trae lance and then match jones. I think that's like the order in terms of you know who's most likely going to st- who's gonna start first and then so on and so forth. I think justin fields is going to be the guy that's going to take the field first and then after that. It'll be the following two quarterbacks. But i think cam in the best spot out of the other quarterbacks like garoppolo andy dalton but we'll see we'll see what happens. I think i think you're more hesitant to draft andy dalton and jimmy garoppolo. But if you drive both you know garoppolo lance and then dalton fields and that's a different story but you know i feel like garoppolo is probably the one that his fancy stock is gonna take is definitely take a massive hit just because of the injuries and also because i think he's is he might be on the he might be on the shortest leash but i feel like justin field is probably going to start before garoppolo just because listen. I think garoppolos still. He's a talent. I i think he's still talented quarterback. I mean a lot of people are very critical of him and i can understand that but you know the forty niners when he's not playing. They don't win games when he plays. They win games and i think that definitely should count for something as much as some people may say that you know. He's not the best quarterback which i don't think he is. But i do think that when he like i said you you look at the numbers when he plays they win when he doesn't play they loose and that has to count for something but yeah. It's going to be interesting with that. Rookie quarterback class and then of course she got trevor lawrence you to see how he does you know with the jaguars jaguars are going to be a scrappy team this year and i like what they did on the offensive side of the ball. They got a lot of talent on the offense side of the ball. So i think they're going to put up points. It's just gonna be. How their defenses. That's really what it's gonna come down to with that and also another thing is i wanna see how joe borough does this year. You know looking at the afc north. Let's go to the north. That's really a you know. Intriguing division you know you look at the bengals offensively. I think joe borough was healthy. They're going to do well. They got a lot of weapons on the offensive side of the ball. You got joe mixing coming back. You just gotta hope that the offense is the offensive of is able to hold up. Because that was the main reason why joe borough got hurt. Last year is because that offensive line was so bad and they could not protect your bureau at all. now you bring jomar chase. You have t- higgins. You got tyler. Boyd and i you know. I can't believe for the longest time. I just forgot about him for whatever reason and he's you know he's arguably the best weapon the best receiver on this team. Which you know. I i don't understand i i don't get it but anyways you know the bengals they are going to be a good offensive. Team of joe was healthy and protected. So i'm looking forward to see what they do there. I do have some stock in some of the bengals players on that team. You know i think. Joe borough is you know could be a solid pansy quarterback again this year and tyler boy definitely a guy that you have on your radar and i really older receivers. I would say you'd want to have on your radar. Obviously it's probably goes. Boy than chase than t higgins probably but that's still a great offensive team and then you got joe mixon who i think can be. You know rb one rb to definitely I would feel more comfortable saying he's rb to are my team. But you know. I mean it depends on what you have is your first pick He could be a guy potentially take in the second round so looking at the other teams in the division. You've got the pittsburgh steelers. I wanna talk about so obviously with ben rothlisberger. I am interested to see how he performs this year. I think he's not going to be you know as good as he was. You know last year. Well the beginning part of last year. I think that the steelers are going to struggle. This year offensively. I don't wanna say that. Because my dad is a steelers fan. And i want the steelers to do well for him and yeah the steelers are technically one of the teams i do you know tend to root for and obviously watching them in the playoffs against the browns last year was i mean i don't i don't know what i watched but yeah it was that was That was a disaster of a game for the steelers for the browns though. But yeah the steelers on a what. I don't know what happened to them. But yeah ben got old the offensive line is i mean. I don't know they ronin. Trae turner You know so that helps. But they did lose dave decastro. They got rid of him pouncey. My county retired. Yeah they're kind of They're in a weird spot right now and you know i like that. They drafted nike harris. I mean. I think that was kind of a no brainer pick. I mean they had. They were one of the worst rushing offenses in the league last year. And i think he's definitely going to help them out. But you know these still got some work to do on that offensive line. Maybe the offensive line will surprise people. And it'll play well They better hope so. Because ben is not what it used to be and he's not going to he's not gonna wanna be getting hit constantly but yet when it comes to the fantasy i think you know you look at klay pool. You look at nine thirty. I think those are probably the two locks that you probably would try to get for fantasy and listen. I think you could probably still take ben But i think you probably have to wait on him and and not reach for him. because i don't think he's going to be. Because ben he used to be a top fantasy quarterback. I mean he was amazing couple of years ago. But i don't think you want to put that much stock into him like you would normally like you normally would because you know you be so. We did what he did last year and he wasn't a bad fancy quarterback last year by any means. I mean that's what i think. But you know he did have a couple of stinkers. And i think that you again. You wanna look for better options and again you know if you're doing a to qb league and you want to measure third qb. I think that's fine. Because i don't think the steelers are going to be like complete terrible like the like the whole year..

"Are questioning zach. Banner in a lot of ways. They're saying really well. What does that banner bring to this team. He doesn't have a lot of experience. He did win the right tackle job over chew chor for last season pods. How do we know what he's going to be like as a full time starter. I think zach banner is going to surprise a lot of people. I wouldn't be shocked if by the end of the season. Or maybe even at the midway point of this twenty twenty one season. We're talking about zach. Banner the way we once talked about. Marcus gilbert marcus gilbert. Meaning that if you recall when he was drafted in the second round on a florida everyone thought he was a future at left tackle. This didn't work out. He moves over the right tackle and he thrives he was a he was a great to a tackle. He degrading pass. Protection was great and run block. Blocking and i will never forget him shutting down khalil mack multiple times von miller. I think zach banner is going to surprise a lot of people. He has really been in my opinion. If you think about like pent up energy boyd zach. Banner have a lot of that right now. He's just itching to go. I mean just raring to go. He was he won that job last season and then his t- tears his acl in week. One he's going to be motivated. He's going to be ready to go. I think he's going to surprise a lot of people. The next surprise on my list is another one that a lot of fans might strongly disagree with. That's terrell edmonds. I think terrell edmonds again a lot of there's a theme here folks the last three especially. It's all about motivation in the last one is going to be about motivation. You talk about benny snell. And he's proven himself to other. Nfl teams at the same time. You talking about zach. Banner his finally motivated to get a chance to to be a starter. Terrell edmonds did not have his fifth year option picked up so he's probably. Oh my gosh probably irks him. He wanted to stay with pittsburgh he wanted. That fifth year. Option once that second contract and he didn't get minka got it he did not get it and to trail. Edmonds has to be motivated. He has to be really ready to go. And saying you know what. I'm gonna go out there kenny. Get his hands on the football more. That's the biggest question i think he will. I think he's going to take that next step. I know that keith butler defensive coordinator has said that he just needs to play faster. Not physically faster the mentally processing. And when he according to butler his words online when he can do that he's gonna get his hands on. The ball is going to be around the baltimore. So terrell edmonds. I think he's going to be a surprise. The last surprise just happens to be one of the newest dealers and that's trae turner trae turner trae turner's the guard. When dave decastro was released trae turn gets picked up and no one really knows what to expect from. Trae turn no one knows. Is it going to be good going to be bad. who knows. But i'll tell you this trae turn in terms of motivation has a ton signed a one year deal with pittsburgh. He's trying to prove that he still has plenty left in the tank. The story the story. Storylines are essentially one in the same except a castro is going to have to have another procedure done in his ankle. According to turner in the steelers would not have signed him at. You still hurt. He's healthy. He's ready to go. And lastly my honorable will mention for surprises is a player in the defensive. Backfield that no one is talking about. That's arthur millette arthur. Millette arthur millette is a player who played for the jets. He's played safety. He's played cornerback in. I didn't know much about him. But jeffrey benedict wrote a great film room on him. And it was essentially titled. What does our thermal. Ed bring to the steelers defense. And he broke down how he's not perfect in fact. One of the most notable plays in terms of bad plays from a lead was when he gave up a huge touchdown. Pass to dante moncrieff. I know bad but still i think millette versatility. His experience is going to help him. I think he makes the team. And i wouldn't be shocked. Arthur millette is the one that fills that my hilton role. We haven't heard much from millette. We'll see if he can turn some heads in training camp but there you have it. Those are my surprises and disappointments for this twenty twenty one. Nfl steelers season. I hope maybe disagree with me. "I only saw is a year where the salary cap decked push the steelers to move on from people a year early rather than holding onto them a year longer. Like if david decastro was going to be they were going to be like well. He's not gonna be ready. Maybe for six weeks and the steelers had cap room. Then he's a guy you hold onto and you say all right we've got these guys they can fill in for six weeks and then david customers back and we can make a push for the playoffs with david. Decastro there so more they. I think it's a case where you know. The the addition by subtraction is is the added flexibility. That money gave the steelers because that was necessary. Yeah i absolutely agree on that I'm also really excited to the scheme fit. 'cause they're some mean dudes aside from szucs who's more the pass blocker. I'd say of the group in geysers physical mean. It's gonna be exciting to watch them. Run the ball. But i was out of the with with what their head to in candidates games. I've been doing a whole film series on matt candidate offense in college. One thing stands out is how important guard to guard guard. Center guard is in mack canada scheme. And that's how the steelers build lines are always guard center guard and then our tackles need to be good but we want like we want great interior line play and they were okay with like decent to good tackle play and and for really from cana scheme. That's what's important so is going to be interesting to see how that interior line in that nastiness with under adrian. Klemm really go. Because if they do well if they grow and they are bullying group that inside matt canada's offense can flourish and i it's also worth noting the rest of the skill positions for this offense. I really the only loss they have is james connor who they're replaced with their first round. Pick we we'll get into that in a little bit but sticking with the losses defensively steeler suffered just much often the a loss as it did on their offensive of line. Of course bud. Depre- mike hilton and steven nelson being the the biggest names there. What should those three guys do. You think they're going to miss the most. Do you think there'd be able survive losing all three of them i think they'll survive it I still think bud duprey create ads such question marks till the defense simply because they have been so prolific as a pass rush unit. But they still can't put together a stretch of games where in a season where their pass rush keeps up that you know over three sack pace. When bud duprey isn't on the field they haven't done it yet wither without tj. What cameron heyward stuff onto. They haven't done it yet. So if we're gonna hit fifty sacks if at fifty one sacks because at seventeen games now next season they've got to overcome that. They've gotta show that okay. You know what bud duprey wasn't that key because if they're sitting there like forty nine sacks at the end of the year that is bud. Do pre I i think mike hilton. You can change the scheme mike. Helton's guy you designed a lot of plays around you just you don't have to blitz your knickebocker. Now you don't have to blitzer nickel corner and steven nelson cameras buttons ready to take over that role again. It's it's like you're getting eighty percent of the talent and skill for you know less than half the cost. I had a feeling. You're going to say that. Exact line when it came to st steven nelson accounts sutton. We've had a few conversations off air regarding that so i am glad you bring it up but When it caught you you mentioned those nickel corner blitzer Blitzes they don't really have the personnel unless we haven't seen a guy do it before that we don't know it seems like that guy isn't there do anticipate that kind of portion of the playbook just being scrapped altogether in nickel. I think you'll see that Arthur millette has a chance if he wins the nickel job. He's not a bad blitzer. I'd be interested to see james. The what he can bring on a blitz but again we there's no guarantees their miles killebrew can blitz a little but with these sunny terrell edmonds. You know it's like sending terrell edmonds. It's not it's not my children. Mike hilton was ide dynamic blizzard that offenses had to account for and you could shut him down by accounting for him but the reason they would send it. Because if you're counting for my hilton you know who's one on one on the opposite side of the field usually. Tj watt like. You can't account for my hilton and double tj wide. And if you're doing that then the guy who's blocking mike helton or the back. Whoever's doing that is sending a roberts d'alene right up the middle. It's just it said off so much that our blitz just could build off of in steamroll when he was when he was doing those. I think this is kind of a thing. Where if you've got someone who doesn't bring that level of blitzing then are they actually worth blitzing. Are they worth the big plays. You're randomly going to give up when you do send too many people for the big plays you make when you send my chilton. 'cause you made a lot more place sending mike helton than they lost yet. You're definitely right on that. And that is a good point. I this next part. Not steelers related anymore. But i think it's still worth asking about Mike illness specifically. Do you have any fake. The bengals will actually use him properly or are they going to stick them out on an island make him cover guys and do all the wrong things because the other day. The snow's play them twice. So we've all seen the bengals not us guys properly in the past Do you think Do you think that's something. Mike hilton should be worried about. I think that is nice. One of my things to watch because they have a new head coach right He's a very different approach than the old guys where they were like. Ooh that's a good player. Bring him in and we'll put him somewhere you know doesn't whether it or not if you use my kitchen while i'm not confident they will but if they do that's going to be something else i doubt he's going to be blitzing like he was with the steelers people. It's a lot with us and they don't. I don't think they have the personnel to do that. But on the other hand they have one of the best cover one free safeties in the nfl in just progressive. not jen. yeah bates. Yeah bates so they can do it. They can clearly do it because that's what this they run. Cover one man and let's mike helton. Just run blitzed. So they can do it. They have that kind of personnel. They just have to actually do it. And i will be surprised to see cincinnati does. Are you all disappointed that this dave decastro news didn't come out sooner so that could keep one of these free agent defenders that they lost. Now who has higher integrity than ramon foster in my opinion as far as recent steelers players very few. So you know ramon the big ragu. So this is not legally right legally whether it's true or die legally this is a separate issue right. He was fine at the end of last season and then he re aggravated or something happened in the off season and now he needs surgery That's legal perspective. Could they get fine. I think it's going to be hard for the nfl to find them. It isn't like it isn't like the ben roethlisberger twenty nineteen fine. When he was injured in week one misprint business and that yeah visit heading into week to and they listed him as missing practices for non injury reasons and then after his after week two when he went out he talked about he missed practice and he was being evaluated. He missed practice and they were looking at his elbow. He had a group of guys they worked out together. Played basketball stuff like that. They went there one day. They're getting ready to play basketball. And there's this guy just running laps around the gym right and they ended up a player short. And he's like they're talking. They're like a player short and he's like. Hey you guys you need an extra player. i'll play guns and play. Pick up basketball with them. Like run circles around. The guy's just incredible athlete. Credible physical shape then when they're tired and they take a break he goes back to running. They come back out play again. He goes straight from jogging like actually jogging and spreading doing his runs to play with them again. All this does it for like two hours. And when they leave he goes back to running some more right. Talk to the guy later finds out. He's an offensive lineman for the buffalo bills and the crazy thing is that guy got cut that year for not being good enough shape right. He wasn't an nfl conditioning. Form and this story takes place in like the eighties right so nfl conditioning. And someone being in good shape like we think. Oh if you're not if you fail an nfl condition. If you're not an nfl shape you know you're you're you're lazy and you're overweight. No like conditioning is a very. They're talking about very specific things. You need to be working on right. So that's out if you can't control it they'll do you have any like pent up feelings towards other teams. Things off from square one though you think trade turner could be better than dave decastro in twenty one. I is there any sort of comparison. Because i know they're both kind of in the same situation both kind of very unhealthy last year. Try and get healthy. Trade turner supposedly one hundred percent according to himself. So take that however you will David casuarinas on the precipice of another ankle surgery. Do you think trade. Turner could be an upgrade. If he's healthy. Yeah over what. We had last season at the end with david. Decastro where i mean there were games. He was awful. They're games. he just you could tell it. Wasn't there his game was not their stuff was just affecting them enough that he wasn't good so trey. Turner has that chance but at the same time he had a groin injury. Right and in steelers history. We've had a couple players in my time. A couple of really good players. Drone beddis started going downhill with his groin injury. He lost a lot of agility. And that's where he kind of fell off. Is that big. Agile guy that he had been for so long. He lost a bit of his quickness. He lost a bit of agility with that groin injury. It wasn't the same guy and he had to reinvent himself and he he he. That's where he started that kinda decline into being a backup running back and then reinvented himself. Just as a straight up power runner his last couple years because he couldn't move like he did before l'amour woodley's the other one everyone talks about. He got that new contract and then he you know he stopped working now but that's not really true. He was having a phenomenal season. He had he had a groin injury and he was never the same again. He was never the same player. Get after that groin injury. Now i know medicine is improved even in the last ten years significantly. I know that But i know other players. Do i know a lot of players. Make it back from groin injuries. But the couple of examples there were players. Were just never the same guy again. So i have concerns about trade turner. I hope he's one of the guys that makes it all the way back but it could be a thing that haunts him for the rest of his career and he's just never that guy getting i think that's one of the reasons you didn't see teams signing him and he signed with the steelers for three million after being a pro bowl guard like there. That's that's something. Teams are wary of yeah five consecutive years. A pro guard gets traded and hurt mrs one year. Now three million dollar player crazy asked him. What will you remember most about david. Decastro the levian values like to me. It's it's decastro pouncey and foster like they're together. They were so great and those levy failures. They're inside zone runs there. They were phenomenal. They were the anchor of the lines. I always love when people talking about the steelers need an upgrade to tackle. The steelers don't invest as much attack alive teams out there. Invest a lot in their tackles the steelers. Don't the steelers are always built from the inside of the line. And if they want to run outside they can pull somebody you know they. They're not afraid to do that. And they really built from the inside out so that that interior line to castro pouncey foster was so good for so long and how just with levy on bell they were just dominant. They just dominated the nfl. More than more than even ben rothlisberger. Like as good as ben wise as good as ben is. He's a hall of fame quarterback best quarterback to i've ever had. Those three guys were better like together. They were more impactful on games than even ben rothlisberger. They were phenomenal So for me. that's that's the castro's legacy it's tied right in with pouncey and ramon foster and how good those guys were in their prime. Yeah as someone who considers themselves a jersey collector. The only offense align jersey. i've ever owned david castro. One of my favorite players of course house a center during my playing days at never got pouncey but david cast right. I think is a pretty local. in comparison. Just a short like to our trip down the road to get to where to castro's from going to stanford i watched him play all of his career in college. Of course andrew luck was on that team so you could watch stanford every single week if you wanted to especially in the west coast and then to see him get drafted the steelers. Honestly the happiest.
