Biden Administration Hopes to Increase Vaccine Production
"The biden administration is now projecting that as many as ninety thousand more americans will die from the coronavirus in the next four weeks. The virus has already taken over four hundred and thirty thousand. Us lives the administration's new health. Briefings are set for three times a week and are part of biden's attempt to restore trust and breakdown public resistance to the vaccine as for the vaccine white house corona virus coordinator jeff. Zen says the administration is looking into multiple waves so speeding up production. His comments come a day after president biden announced plans to provide states with enough doses for three hundred million americans by the end of the summer. He said states or getting better at at administering the shots and called on congress except for florida. Maybe maybe to pass biden's one point nine trillion dollar american rescue plan. The bill includes four hundred billion dollars for efforts to contain the virus including increasing the pace of vaccination and ensuring more testing nationwide joining us. Now physician and fellow out the brookings institution dr patel. She's also With us morning joe. Chief medical correspondent. Dr dave campbell. Good to have you both. I like to always begin with where the virus stands right now. dr dave. You're focused a lot of your time on florida. My instinct is florida's doing terribly. Just looking at how people are behaving at night out and about in cities florida like many states across the country are not doing well but we make a weekend see some little shining light in the numbers that have been coming out in the last week or two in terms of new cases and hospitalizations in florida and across the country. But the grave concern that. You'll be hearing about now all day for the next few weeks or these variants that could be increasing the rate again with yet another surge if the the unfortunate expectations come true. Dr patel your concerns and we're talking about ninety thousand more deaths before we can figure out how to roll out this vaccine in a way that it gets to everybody. Is there any way that can be curtailed. We're gonna hit half a million people absolutely make a good morning and happy to be here at publicly with a little bit of good news. We're starting to see a lot. More data on just the strength of some of the treatments it's not hydrochloric winter. Bleach no surprise there but emerging evidence about combination of antiviral treatment monoclonal. Antibodies as well as other trials before people get hospitals that can actually decrease death and the risk of becoming severely. Ill so this just emphasizes that you know. The biden administration as they spoke about yesterday has to do everything they've got to fix a vaccine distribution and supply problem. They've also got a fix. What never got fixed on testing issues mega. It's ridiculous that it still takes me. Forty eight hours to get a turnaround and that's a good day on test and then they also have to really fix this issue of masks fatigue to your point. That's partly why governor governor newsom basically had to call it quits on stay at home orders because frankly nobody's following them especially in southern california for the hospitals are still deluged but improving lightly

"Okay. Let's see these got more going on hold and we'll come back to him and talk to Ruth in spring, Texas, Ruth. Welcome. Hello. I have a two thousand to Nissan Altima two hundred fifty four thousand miles. Wow. Thoroughly enjoyed it. And but need to start looking for something. So it kind of is a little bit on that. Nissan. Rogue was wondering what's your input on? It was and your recommendation for dealership in a fair price for top line. Are you wanting the sport other the regular rogue? I'd like to go with the sports. Okay. So you do not need a third row seat. I do not mean what a third row seat. No, sir. It's just as well. It's I mean, it's got a third row seat. But honestly, it's pretty limited in space. The rogue is great. There is no issues with it whatsoever. Fact, it was the for part of two thousand eighteen it was the number one selling SUV in America Toyota, put a bunch of incentives on the RAB four and and pulled it out. But row still ended up number two, which is the which is awesome. Because I made a lot of people are buying them. And and you know, people today or so educated there is safety in numbers. That's why in our newsletter put out these list of the top selling this or with the top selling that. Because there is safety in numbers. Addled no issues with the robe Nissan has continued to be aggressive with their incentives. And I don't think that's going to change anytime soon. I think it's a good choice as far as price. I honestly don't I can't tell you. I mean, there's twenty five hundred different models out there. And I just can't keep up the prices, but Dave Campbell is the general manager at Jomo Nissan, and you'll find him on our website under certified dealers talked to David partially tell him I sent you. And he'll give you the car pro show right off the bat. Okay. Two thousand eighteen nineteen eighty five. There's no change. If he's got an eighteen left. That's where the big incentives are going to be I'd go with it. How long do you think you keep this thing? Probably for a while. I have a two thousand teeth. So I take care of my pretty good down the road reasons. Sometimes I I wanna know that is because resale value, but as long as you keep car resale values out the window. So I if he's got an eighteen that you love, then I would do it and pocket the savings. If not then I'd go with the twenty nineteen but he's he's still had some twenty eight teams last time. I talked to him which was just maybe two weeks ago. So give Macau emailing from our website, car pro USA. You can also look at his inventory..

"Quarterbacks across the country. Really what goes into that? Looking everywhere you go after every six star star four star and every star in the world, we can get around here, and they all go to other schools at this point. So we go get whatever else is out there. Try to find the very best one that fits our system based on. We we kinda work our way from here out, and we usually end up on the east or west coast somewhere. There's a number of guys that are in this area that we tried to get in on and they didn't have any interest in this always go to the next guy. How different is that with quarterbacks think defensive players and everything usually you stay to your region. But quarterback wise, you cast a wider geographical next. I think they just we'll go other places based on that most schools gonna take one a year. Take four off in sublime in this pretty consistent across the country gonna take three or four defensive linemen three or four DB's. Right. So two or three linebackers quarterbacks. Kind of find a slot. And they jump in wherever they think they want to be and that one program that was after Brennan Costello toward the end Georgia. Probably because they knew that fields was going to transfer. So they tried to get him. And also, of course, you mentioned east coast west coast. Mason Rudolph came from the east coast. Brennan Costello down from the west coast. But right in the middle didn't Texas. I've got a guy named Spitzer Sanders who who's a four star guy than the Gatorade. And Dave Campbell player of the year in Texas other excited about that. And I he was also asked OSU and many of the schools right now, I have a lot of football camps and the Cowboys tried to take a big advantage of that the camps have changed obviously over the years. We we have the show where because of the success that we've had throwing the football here and moving the ball and score points. We've been able to attract wide receivers and quarterbacks from all over the country that will come to this camp and Costello was in it, and that interest draws those guys in and gives us a chance to spend time with them get to know him and gives him a chance to get to know us and the community here. So it's advantage for us to get him in the community. And in Stillwater, they've come here, they feel comfortable college town. And if they like what they see get along with the coaches, then the interest level goes up, and it gives us a chance to recruit them. So there you go Cowboys with twenty assignee's they are hoping to get maybe a couple of more as we head towards the February. But right now, that's where it stands three guys from Oklahoma DeMarco Jones the defensive back from Tulsa, Washington, Grayson, boomer, the tight end from Collinsville and. Race Ford defensive end from Edmond Santa Fe, and they also got a guy from out of the country from Australia. The Potter, Tom Hutton. He's like twenty eight years old, and they he has the potential at least to be a great one, Hutton and six other. Those guys will be an early in January and will participate in spring football. So that should be interesting. All right. We're just about out of time for the segments. We'll take a break. And then Eric, and I will come back begin to kind of wrap things up on this edition of game day Saturday on the oh..

"In Cleveland. If you have the time wanna take call this Saturday, Jane, you you spoke to Dr yesterday that respondent. Yeah, Joseph saccharin, he is a gun violence survivor himself and trauma surgeon and was disgusted. And and quite frankly shock that these lobbyists these individuals who have no idea what it is like to have had that personal experience that he said and to have the professional experience and to have it his norm and tell him that he's not supposed to be a part of this conversation. He's an American citizen. I and it's so fascinating who we allowed to talk about these things who we don't we let people like Donald. Trump way in and people be pundits. And people who just don't have any policy experience, and no background in what these implications have real people talk. And I think that's why election of UC MacBeth was so important to so many people she herself it's the mother of child that was killed by gun violence and jumped in the race in the last minute after the park shooting and to take a Republican district that was once held by Newt Gingrich who obviously has very different positions. So on this and say that she wants to be an advocate for gun rights, survivors gun violence, and it's just been telling I think it's gives us a clear direction of where the country wants to go a gun control advocate winning. Newt Gingrich seat in suburban Atlanta Willie. Second for sation. We had Joe mansion earlier this week. And Joe was like, hey, you know, what don't talk about the three guys the three lobbyists in Washington DC who call themselves in. Ray the NRA members agree with me, Joe said agree on gun safety. And my gosh, you take somebody like Dr Dave Campbell. I talked to him about this and Dave is a back surgeon. But he spent a lot of time and the ER dealing with a lot of gunshot wounds. And he was deeply fended despite the fact that guy's got more guns than I can count. He and his sons have been hunting. He spent hunting his entire life. I mean, he's he knows more about guns than than anybody. I've ever met. But he's also a doctor, and this is deeply offensive to him and deeply offensive to conservative doctors Republican doctors in our doctors that is their lane. They're the ones that are having to try to save lives because of rampant gun violence, which isn't that pedantic? Yeah. I mean, we can talk about gun rights. But as I heard meeker read that tweet from the NRA, I'm thinking who's run? Even PR for the NRA who thinks it's a good idea for their brand. Who thinks it's a good idea? Trying to persuade people to help protect the second amendment that taunting trauma. Doctors is the way to do that. There is no gun owner. I know there's no member of the NRA, I know who would ever approve of something like that whatever sign off on that they want to have the second amend protected. But like Joe Manchin who goes into a state like West Virginia where Donald Trump won by forty two points and said, hey, you know, me I go hunting with you on the weekends. I'm one of you. I'm with you on the second amendment there things we can do to prevent things like we saw yesterday from three hundred sixty five days a year. This was the three hundred seventh mass shooting this year. These doctors are on the front lines in this war and their ears are triage centers. They have a voice in this. So to do the mothers. And you know, what there's never a better time to talk about this. So I'm tired of hearing from the NRA about timing. About who exactly is appropriate. Talk about this. The people most involved are the people we need to hear from. And that would be the doctors and the victims. They have no voice their dead. We'll be right back. The fact of the matter was he was this is a story that is not well known that stuck in my mind about it was this was in the white, but it really should be especially maybe nails. "Myers joining us. So explain this to me, you know, Jason Garrett. I mean, again, it's not a disaster. It's not Dave Campbell. It's not man overboard, but the fans in the media are very tough on him. But Jerry seems to have an allegiance to Jason Garrett. How close are they it it appears almost treats him like a son. Like, I mean, it's what are you surprised at the closeness or what what did you find in that relationship while writing the book? Well, considering how close they are. I'm kinda surprised at Jason and his life. Don't actually live in the Jones mansion. Alice. They are that close. I think Jerry has finally opted stability in that organization after going through a lot of coaches following Jimmy Johnson and Jason. I think Jason is the perfect coach for Jerry just in terms of he lets Jerry Jerry Jerry play with his toy this five billion dollar enterprise. And in return Jerry's been very loyal to Garrett, which I think is upset a lot of people in Dallas, especially after his decision on Sunday night. Not to go for it on fourth and one in overtime in Houston. Is it possible that Jerry Jones likes Dak Prescott more than Jason Garrett likes Dak Prescott? And Jason knows it in the Jason other love deck and looks around the league and sees Goffin Mahomes. What do you make of that? Just Jason truly believe in back. Well, right now, there's no alternative. So he better believe, and I'm otherwise this season is going to be shot in the next couple of weeks that played so well in two thousand and sixteen that Romo is unable to get off the bench. She gave that concession speech around November of two thousand sixteen when he was ready to play. But realized that he couldn't because that graphic was in the process of winning eleven games in a row they to that point Romo and garett work stream Lee, close these go to maverick games together. They went to Duke watch some play basketball. They made that trip together and GARRETT'S decision not even allow Romo to compete to win. His job back was very similar to what happened that your Bledsoe in two thousand and one in New England, and whereas let's on and. Blitz on Bella check whenever close by any means Romo and Garrett with very close. And and Jason's decision not to allow. Tony even compete. That's up that friendship, and there's a lot of friction there at the end if that hadn't happened if they store on good terms at the end of that season. Perhaps Tony would've come back thinking he had a chance to compete for his job in training camp in two thousand seventeen instead he Astros release considered signing with the Texans. And then decided not to you know, Jerry still holds a press conference after every game. He's the only owner that has a Monday radio show. So when people tell me, you know, he's less involved. Let me lean on you, you covered this team and followed this team. People has he disengaged or just Jerry is his shadow hovering over game plans is his shadow hovering over draft day. Con. I saw that series at Amazon did last year where they follow the Cowboys around. Yeah. For the year. And it was it was startling to me that in the Monday morning coaches meeting, Jerry. And sometimes Stephen would be in that meeting where they were discussing went one, right? And what went wrong on game day? And I don't think there's any other one on a week. Maybe Al Davis back in the day. Whoever did anything like that. Star is hovering over the game plan. I don't think he's that involve to that extent that he's telling Jason, you know, we got to throw the ball more. We gotta run a more is involved in the draft where he doesn't impose his will to the extent that people think he does. And I I have a great story in the book and anecdote about the two thousand fourteen drafts with Johnny Manziel and Steven Jones gave me a play by play of the draft room from ten minutes before the Cowboys are on the clock until they went ahead and took Zack Martin over Johnny Manziel, despite the fact that Jerry went around the room, and basically was pleading with anybody else, it's a side with him on man's. When couldn't find anybody. He said, okay. Go ahead. Take Zack Martin after they pick was turned in Jerry turned to Stephen who was sitting right next to slap some really hard on the leg and said, son. I didn't get to where I was in my life by playing things down the middle. If you're just play things down the middle and don't take any risks. You're not gonna get very far either. And see them was really hurt by that. Because he felt he was doing was right for the organization when Jerry's credit if you want to give him credit or anything. He didn't force them to take Menzel. Yeah. Well, that's part of it. The book is how about them. Cowboys released today Amazon dot com inside look Jerry Jones empire and plenty of the other cowboy drama. I want to shift to the York Giants a team you covered forever. Odell Beckham came out. And I actually defended Odell I said, listen there's very few guys in an NFL roster in the NBA. It can't be cut in major league baseball. You can't be cut in the NFL. You can cut Tom Brady tomorrow you'd have a cap hit. But you could do it. I mean old L is one of the few people in that locker room that can come out say something and not be demoted. Didn't he just mentioned the elephant in the room that he li- appears to be at times often a shot fighter? I mean, he's one of the more popular players. I think his words matter I this is one of the few times Odell I'm like he didn't I didn't seem hurtful he didn't see inauthentic. I mean, what did you make of his comments about ally in the organization? I think that Odell statements were right around the money everything he said it was hard to disagree with wisn. The ball going more twenty yards down the field is Eli the problem. I'm not really sure. And by not giving his dourson, you know, that he thinks he lies the problem. It's just just don't say those things. Though that stuff should should remain in the locker room at least. That's the way coaches want it, right? And the thing about Odell is everybody was saying of maple I signed this contract or does grownup that he's he's he's matured, and he's he's gonna be more of a team guy and not just talking about our del and getting the ball. Well, what he was doing there. Then is that as soon as he realized the giants willing to trade them. And as soon as he realized that maybe weren't gonna give him a new contract. All of a sudden, they grew up for four months, and as soon as he got his money is it really surprising. He's gone back to being Odell. He was protecting his money which turned out to be a ninety million dollar extension with sixty five million dollars guaranteed. Now, he's got his money in the pot in his pocket. The first month of the season didn't go as planned. He hadn't scored a touchdown. So we spoke up that's just or Dell being Odell the the real Odell was on vacation for about four months until he got his new contract, by the way Sam darnold one this weekend. Sam. Arnold's favored to win again this weekend by suggested on multiple times that you start looking at Carson Wentz. If you have to play him ten times minimum in the next five years in twenty times in the next decade. I want I gotta do better than Eli manning. Do you think they'll rue the day? Do you think there were people in the giants organization that tried to get the GM to draft Arnold? Or do you believe there was some fear based on the previous season? A benching Eli and an older giants fan base really pushing back deeply offended how close do you think they got to a quarterback pick? Right away when it was introduced as the GM a couple of days before the last game of the two thousand seventeen season he came out in endorsed delights. Yes, Shurmur got hired a few weeks later hinge or St. light and said we watched them in the Philadelphia game in December. And you know, he can still sling it. Well, they picked out one game out of a three and thirteen season. And they still lost that game to a backup quarterback. Awesome. We would I think is what happened on draft day. It wasn't so much that they were convinced ally still had two good years left. And I'm certainly wasn't because they thought that saquon Barkley was generational player. Even though he was an is rather. I firmly believe now the giants pass on a quarterback because in their evaluations. They didn't look at any of those four guys who went in the top ten as being our guy for the next fifteen years. Otherwise, it's malpractice by that organization to pass a one of those guys. Thirty to keep a thirty seven year old quarterback who's coming off two or three really bad years. When people don't think he can play anymore. It doesn't make sense that I have more respect for Dave Gettleman to think that he stuck with you. I because it's so things can be great. Now what I think happened is they just start with the other four guys northern. We'll get to be the guy you can criticize him for that. But at least that was their evaluation of those rookies, we'll see how it turns out. I think they made a huge mistake that would just call. No big sensu located if Sam darnold is finally the guy in that Super Bowl streak of not being in the Super Bowl. It's now fifty years and the New York Jets finally let's wrap back around the Cowboys. The book is called how about them Cowboys. Gary Myers in New York Times bestselling author inside the huddle stars and legends. Was there something because obviously you covered them before. And being a giants guy you've been to Dallas at least once a year for the last fifteen twenty years. But was there something that surprised you a story? A nugget a culture that surprised you writing this book? I think that maybe the best quote that I have in the book is from story that Jimmy Johnson told me and this happened. He told me this last year. But this happened a few years ago. Troy Aikman was beside himself when Jimmy last he just didn't like Barry Switzer, Barry had recruited them to its Oklahoma. Troy broke his leg by time. It came back very changed the offense and Troy transportat- LA this sitting around having a beer and Troy says to Jimmy, and this is a to me it says so compelling he just says, you know, we could have been Brady and Belichick. Why did you have to leave and Jimmy basically told try I don't think like that my whole life is predicated on being happy, and I wasn't happy. So even if I left Super Bowls on the table. It doesn't bother me to this day. And I think that really tells the story of the last twenty years with the Cowboys how these two guys who incredibly successful, and Jerry and Jimmy with unbelievable egos. Couldn't find a way to share the credit to keep this thing. Going free agency had just started the Cowboys had the best young town the league, even if they start losing free agents. Jimmy was so good it personnel..

"Online health newsletter thrive, Dr Dave Campbell good to have you on the show this morning today. Good morning. Each cigarettes seem so unbelie. I mean, they also are easily hidden because they don't have any smell correct. Well, they look like USB drives. They look like a thumb drive. So kids and adults can look like they're just accessing their computer. So what are the day? One of the main dangers parents have to worry about. In the short term, none in the long term. It is that e cigarettes contain nicotine and teenagers are particularly sensitive to nicotine addiction, and it appears that that will increase the number of the dolts that transition to using combustible tobacco, which is horrible. So the whole. Rub here is that for adults using e cigarettes, it's a nice tool to allow them to use less combustible tobacco. It safer for kids. It's terrible because it allows them to transition into nicotine addiction and then move into using cigarettes. Twenty-three hundred kids will start using cigarettes today while then everyday there after ten believable, Susan. Come in key things, but isn't it hard when you when you're trying to talk to kids about e cigarettes and the dangerous at the same time where we see so many states around the country, legalizing marijuana and trying to kind of justify both things at the same time that these e cigarettes are bad for you at the same time where legalizing marijuana? I mean, I know they're different issues, but I think psychologically there's some kids say, hey, at least I'm not smoking pot. You know what? I think it's actually three issues, but you hit on an important one. All of these issues are related to drugs that cause harm. So for teenagers using vaping devices in nicotine, if that leads them to smoke cigarettes that causes harm. Marijuana laws are not legal, not mitt to include minor. So all the marijuana laws are intended to keep people. I think it's under twenty one maybe under eighteen. And then we have the issue that we're gonna talk about, which are opioids, and all of these issues represent the government trying to allow safety in the face of harmful drugs, Jeremy Peters. Yes. I wonder, I want you to connect this for me to the opioid crisis in. Obviously, we have such proliferation of vailable prescription drugs e e you don't need a prescription to get this. You can just walk up to the counter at the drugstore at the gas station and by it. So as part of the broader epidemic that we have. With addiction in this country are teens is the concern that the teens who get started on this. We'll be then much more vulnerable to addiction further on down the road. They are all three connected and they're connected through the addictive nature of drugs, whether it's nicotine, whether it's cannabis THC or whether it is opioids and other substances. So they're all connected. And I think we have to have particular concern for teenagers and young people because their brains are not fully developed and they seem to be more prone to problems from addiction, and they certainly can have long-term cognitive and neuro developmental problems because their brains haven't developed neuro physiologically until they're in their young twenty s so they are all connected. This was brutal because he totally had this like she was definitely going to finish. And if she was like one inch taller, this wouldn't have been a problem. Yeah. Well, that's always been heard unfortunate disadvantage, I guess. But this was like an annoying thing where like that jump for anybody else like wasn't like if they had lost their momentum. It wouldn't have really been a problem, but it's really hard to jump to that thing just from a standing position when you're her height. Whatever and feel good about barklay for next year. Yeah. Really, I really felt like like she had this. I should've gotten through jebron. She obviously can get up the war while easily nobody's falling on. I don't think anybody fell on razor beam the entire night and then she could easily handle twist and fly. She did not seem tired. I think she would have it into her time was great. So quite unfortunate that she has just tiny little stumble and that's it. That's all it takes next up was another montage, and this was the montage of like, don't you? Dare I was this montage made me like so angry for brief period of time because it starts with Rico Rivera, who made it to the final obstacle before flaming out. Then we got to David Campbell who, unfortunately is also going to go out on the double Dipper. Apparently looks like his foot flew up and sort of dislodge the bar before he grabbed it, which caused him to go down. Then they went and Chris, we'll chest ski. At this point, it's just like crystal just has been really good this season to talk about next was Najji Richardson, the twenty seven year old motivational speaker. And this also worried me because I was like, we are halfway through the episode. Why are we giving g right now? He is one of the highlight like one of the headliners here. Normally you save them for the end. This is making me nervous, especially after the previous episode showing so many people go down. But we, we'd a package about Najji. He's apparently been in some TV shows. He's he's getting a little famous. Yeah, they say that he's the poster person for the season, but I thought Meghan was on the post to the Susan look through lots of posters. Okay. I don't know the little thumbnail on who is Meghan. Well. On a billboard in LA. Yeah. Okay. He says, he's, he's, he's in barest that he's famous. She's just a regular guy. Okay. Do you buy that? I like nausea, I think he is humble guy. I think that there's no way to save his words without sounding a little arrogant. Hey, it wouldn't be. We'll complain about nothing. He's complaining, but you know what I mean?
