"On and on and on. Skilled size has been the endgame towns is actually kind of the epitome of skilled size. That's what the unicorns were. And mobley is skilled size. Now mobile Jared Allen, is there enough skilled size there? I think probably there is given what Jared Allen showed as a post player last year. Gobert towns is going to be interesting because it will bear is not quote unquote skilled in the way that I think that conception of the skilled stretch 5 screen assists talks about. Screen is this. I had to bring it up. You're bringing me on on 4th of July. I'm putting screen assists in your lap. Let me tell you. I don't know who's replacing Dave Benz, which by the way, if they announce who's replaced, happy Benz. No, no. It better be, it's gotta be someone who's incredible because them moving on from Dave Ben's shout out, Dave Benz, I'm gonna miss you. I don't know where you've landed or you and Jim Peterson were a big part of my life that is an inexplicable decision to me. If that person and Jim Peterson start mentioning screen assists at 50% of the rate that the Utah broadcast did, I'm switching to the other broadcast from Minnesota games. So that skilled size was always the endgame and Gobert Singh was like, and this is what I keep coming back to. I love Rudy Gobert. I voted him defense player multiple times. I've said he's a Hall of Famer. He is going to be a Hall of Famer. I've put him on my all NBA team not this past year. I put cats. Sorry. I just want to be able to throw him the basketball. I feel like if I'm paying you $45 billion and trading 7 draft assets for you, I'd like to throw you the ball and have faith that you're going to do something with it. That's all. And so we'll kind of see what happens, but I agree with you that I can't wait to watch him play. And I can't wait to watch them play against the clippers because I can tell you this or the warriors or whoever. They're the teams that have the ability to do it, are licking their chops, not because they think the wolves are easy prey for 5 out basketball, but they want to see how it looks and they want to attack them and they want to test them and they think they can be successful. I can't wait to see it. It's going to be, it's going to be a lot of fun. Like I said, I don't know in the end how far that this can go. What is the ceiling on a team like this? But I know it's going to be remarkably different from anything that I've watched here forever and ever. It's also going to be competitive. I feel like I know that. They're going to be a good team, at least in the regular season. They're going to be a team that I think that people will be really intrigued by. And I just back to where we started this podcast. This is an organization that has forever been able to be overlooked and been able to either be just dismissed or be a punchline. And now they are like, I wrote, they're too big to ignore. They are going to be a big talented team that is going to be that is going to be a force in the regular season. And then I do think in the right matchups in the playoffs, they can do some damage. But all I want to see is it on the floor now. I'm going to spend the next three months twisting my brain in a pretzel trying to figure out how all of this is going to work, but I do just think it's one of those things you have to see it on the floor, let it germinate and then see what happens. Too big to ignore is a pretty good slogan actually for like the 2022 2023 wolves. It's much better than the Brooklyn net. It's not that bad. Let me just conclude by going back to the sort of asset play. And the one shot thing. And the idea that they could have another shot down the line if this one fails. Let's just talk it through for two minutes. If it blows, if it doesn't work and you feel like you've got to get out of it. Yes, you'll recoup some of the draft value somewhere along the line in a big trade, or maybe a couple little trades, like a pacers just through the white flag on brogden and say, we'll just take a first round pick. We don't care. If it's a good pick or whatever. And so there's some truth to it. But play it out. If it doesn't work, Gobert is not going to have a ton of trade value because of his contract in his age. So you're only recouping so much from that. You're never trading at. Right. It's just not going to happen. The guy's going to be the face of the franchise for as long as he's happy there. And so that leaves you with, well, who do you trade to recoup a lot of draft assets? Kat. And I hope it never comes to that. I think the supermax was an absolute no brainer for the wolves. I said last week we were going to do a segment on TV. What are the upsides and downsides of a supermax for katniss? There are no downsides. Let's not do the segment. It's all upset. It's Minnesota. Yeah, you have to do it. Yes. And you shouldn't. So yeah, you'd get a bounty for cat, the issue is all the pictures you've then traded are now better picks for the jazz and the picture you've got coming in are from the team that now has Carl Anthony towns and is probably loading up to win a lot of games so those picks aren't that good. So it sounds like, oh, we're neutral. We're back where we started. You're not really and there are alternate versions of this where you come out further ahead. That said, I do think there is some truth to the short window theory of we can recoup some of this by fleecing another team down the line if that's what it ends up at. So look, you're not going to, you're just not going to sell me on the trade. I think it's way too much, but I can't wait. I can't wait to see them play. I'm coming to Minnesota next season. Yes, good. We'll have beers for sure, but I will say this on that part of it, Zach, yet you may not get back to neutral if this doesn't work and you have to blow it up and you have to recoup. But that's not what this should be about. It really, it should be about we believe that this is a way to go forward and we're going big with it. And there is risk involved in something like this. That's naturally going to be the case, but if you're stepping into any deal like this and you're saying, well, if anything, we can just bail out and we'll be back at where we left it in four years. That's not going to be it. You have to be all in on something like this to believe in it. And that's where they are right now. Yes, they have some built in safety nets that they can jump into if it doesn't work. But they may have to take a few steps back. Just ask the wolves do not have to go very far back in history to think, when did we part with a pick that was only lightly protected that we figured, oh, that's not going to be a problem. We have Deangelo Russell, and we have Carl Anthony towns. That pick's going to be well outside the lottery. And then whoops, what happened? So that's the kind of thing that does happen regularly. But I will say finally, kind of, they could have had given what we know that they were able to give up for Rudy Gobert. They could have gone after Dijon Murray with that package and probably outbid Atlanta and got him. They did not do that because they believe that Rudy Gobert was a better fit. That was the one that they really wanted to go after. I think Tim Conley is a smart guy. I think Chris Finch is a smart guy. I think they'll figure all of that out. You can not argue what you just said. About Tim Connelly and Chris Finch. And this has been one of the principles of the way I talk about the NBA. Nobody is stupid. Right. Fans always, this guy's a more on that guy's warrant. What Tim Connolly did in Denver was on its face extraordinary. The guys are really good GM. Chris Finch is an offensive guru. If you don't like a trade, it doesn't mean that the people behind it are suddenly not good at their jobs..

"Pride, the immense sense of gratitude, America's all the better off for your citizenship, courage, got teddy could end up playing for America. I loved it. How much he broached that issue with Rebecca in front of teddy when we hung out in Los Angeles. I will not reveal his answer. That's ultimately for him. To reveal when you get to the call up on social media, whatever social media we're using in that time, but godspeed were better off for having all of you. Yeah, absolutely. Okay, before we get to the football, the tickets for our first live show in three years really that long and now on sale it's happening Tuesday may 10th here in New York City where I say here in New York City at the skirball center for the performing arts, Raven newsletter, subscribers, had first cracker tickets earlier this morning, but we've now opened it up to all the website to purchase is all over our social media and the promo code is courage. All caps. Campy with us really, really, really dear, Jeff, please. You've heard so many of you coming in for more points. Now, we used to take being together, just celebrating the connectivity we all feel through football, the joy, the meaning that we all extensive. We did used to take it for granted. And this night, which I've just ate for throughout lockdown, all I can say is, God, I can't wait for this magical light to be together. Through a several first third bird to the evening, talk about the game we love. You know, adopted hometown is truly, truly, truly a reason to be grateful okay, roger, to the football. Here we are all for the first leg of this PSG realm which I was a night of knockout Champions League action for the ages. The second game, which seems settled after Killian and bappe 39th minute goal on the break. But on the hour mark, gian Luigi Donna rumor turned the ball over to Benzema handing Real Madrid a lifeline at two one on in the 76th minute, a dizzying, flurry of action, saw big body bends, finishes hat trick, two ruthless finishes separated by only ten seconds of play further cementing the French man in the Madrid echelons and sending rail through to the next round. What a night what a night in Madrid, what a clash just absolutely magical the notion of the perspective champion of France albeit coming off a league lost to nice against the champions elective Spain, Real Madrid, just the excitement levels going into this is what Champions League football is all about. Carlo Ancelotti God bless one man used his time at Goodison Park to a night like tonight deserves it. The memory of PSG so dominant at the park de France were just the dominant ones in the opening exchanges here, two massive chances inside 40 minutes. Real from the off played as if they were supremely confident in their screwing ability to and bap a had the ball in the back of the net. But the spices Mary Catherine Gallagher on pit celebration. He was offside reprieve for Real Madrid, reprieve not taken because within 5 minutes Dave and bapi free for a run in on goal from the halfway line dispatched by Neymar who made a path like a bazillion Harry Kay and bappy was flanked by and he simply I don't know how we did it. What's his goal a hundred times? Seems to just spank it right through him with derision and completely bamboozled. Yeah, it's not easy to bamboozle Courtois, but I'm happy to do it. I had a long range view of this across the restaurant where I had a meeting earlier and a bunch. I mean, really, this was like a an internal intercontinental fan group of people going crazy transfixed and making noises at every single part of this game. But it was like, it was just one of multiple multiple highlights. Narrative about the man who's talked about moving to realm Madrid scream again and possibly burying lost blancos. That was just, I mean, it's hard to even remember this after the second half we've just sat there. It did feel like game over. In the olden days, especially with the way goals. Real Madrid certainly looking like an aging squad in need of a makeover down and out. But then dollar rumor handed them a lifeline being cut needlessly dawdling in possession. Benzema feasted on the easiest opportunities and it's magical, the entire Bernabeu started the chant, CC puede, yes, we can. Yes, we can. And inspired Bentonville and some of the equalizer, another defensive mishap by PSG who really were the self destruction on an epic scale as much as it was a comeback and then I'm still shocked by this. Just watching where Benzema storms in from 11 seconds later straight from the kick-off, PSG quaking just pounced on a sloppy ball finish ruthlessly clinically wondrously and took the acclaim what a moment he's got another. He's got another. He's got another just a classic moment of commentary in which Clive tilde just lost himself. Stop being elite broadcaster started as someone and just channel the passion of a child's love of the game and I think it was all the better the commentary for it, a classic classic moment of television. And my God, Dave, Benz them out. What a, what a finisher, just French Reggie Miller against.

"Saturday afternoon of this holiday weekend. Hope it is treating you beautifully. Another nice day here in the bay and a nice day to talk some NBA with one of the league authorities. We got one of the play by play voices of the association here with us, and he might just be a familiar voice here in the Bay area. Dave Benz, who, once upon a time not only was an anchor and host at Comcast SportsNet Bay Area, but also did some some hanging out here at K and B, R and hosted shows on this very network. Now the voice of the Minnesota Timberwolves. Dave Good to have you on on this holiday Saturday, and the first thing I got to ask you since we've got this whole Warriors Timberwolves connection now going back a couple of years. What is the Minnesota view of this deal? The D'Angelo Russell Andrew Wiggins deal that now has the Warriors and not the T wolves with his number seven pick coming up. Um, well, first and foremost, thank you for calling me an NBA authority. I don't know if you cross reference that with the league, so might get us all in some trouble. Um, but, you know, I think that the way things turned out, I think the Timberwolves actually are feeling a lot better about the situation than they would than they were before the draft lottery. And what I mean by that is, you know if if that pick had if that pick had fallen at four, or maybe even at five because we all know that this this drafters, you know, five guys that seemed to be everybody unanimously thinks they are going to be really special in the league. I think if the Timberwolves had had had that pick land at four or five And, you know, had to eat some crow in terms of sacrificing a chance to get one of those guys. I think that it might be a different take. But the fact that the pick landed at seven. Um, I think a lot of people here in Minnesota are are okay with that. You know, if you said, hey, we're giving up the number seven pick plus getting out from under the Andrew Williams Max deal, which was not very popular here and getting D'Angelo Russell back in return. I think I think a lot of people are happy with the way things turned out. We'll see. Long term. You know how Dean as well Russell can compare when he actually gets legitimate playing time with Carl. I think towns because that's been the boogaloo since D Lo got to town is that they have not played a ton of minutes together. They did play. Lot of time together over the last 10 12 games of the season, and the team was somewhere around 500 over that final stretch. So, uh, you know, there's a lot to collect, potentially about the way this could play out. But yeah, there's like I said, a lot of people breathe easy. Um, when they saw Hey, we're not getting that the pick. We're losing the pick. That ideally would have been the best case scenario. But having it called seven That was probably the second best possible scenario. And I think a lot of people are okay with that. And of course, that pick may or may not wind up staying with Golden State. So I realized the Warriors are no longer your chief concern here, but from an NBA wide standpoint, obviously still a very relevant franchise with a ton of upside going into next season. What do you think this team should do when you've got a number seven. Pick a number 14 pick you've got James Wiseman, who may or may not be part of the long term plans depending on what might be available right now. There's a lot of moving parts here. What do you think is the best road for the dubs? Um, you know, I'm a believer and if you've got a chance to win, you win and you take it because you never know what the future is going to bring And you know, obviously, steps is still playing in an unbelievably high level with legitimate MVP candidate this past season and was so fun to watch. But we also know that you know, step is definitely on the back nine of his career, and I mean he's always going to be able to shoot, so I think he'll be relevant and being leaked for quite a long time. But how long is he going to be able to remain? An M V P type candidate, you know, I think that that that the tread on that part of the tire is probably not as thick as you know, as anybody in the Bay area would like, you know, quite coming back from an injury. I hope he can get back to where he was. Um, but I think this team that plays healthy and, you know, step is still going to be, you know, probably in that neighborhood of M V P type step for at least another season. And you know, Draymond is in the prime of his career. I don't see why. If you're Bob Myers with all the assets, not the chips that you've got, why you wouldn't try and and, you know, make this franchise you know, in a position to be able to compete for a championship, and I don't think that they're that far away. I mean, if Clay is healthy, and quays can get back to being one of the best two way players in the league And you got step playing anywhere near what he was playing this past season. And you know whether it is Andrew Wiggins, a guy that is going to stay or take a package into a deal. Who knows? But you know there's chips to play with and there's there's certainly things to build around. So I mean that I don't see why the wars wouldn't go for it, especially, I mean it's It seems to me like the league is kind of wide open right now. I mean, who saw Phoenix being in the in the NBA Finals when the season started, and you know the same thing and then the other side with the East? I mean, everybody thought, you know, Yannis in Milwaukee, you might have a chance to get there. But nobody saw Atlanta getting there. So I mean, it's wide open right now. And if you've got an opportunity when you're totally you gotta go for it. NPR The sports leader, Scott Reese, chatting with Dave Ben's voice of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Dave Since you bring up the Sons and the Bucks and the Hawks. I got to ask you about the NBA Finals, even though obviously the pairing is not completely set. Yet. Phoenix has been such a great story. Devin Booker, I think long one of the underrated stars in America, DeAndre Ayton playing at a high level we saw what Chris Paul did. Um, but if it is, in fact, the honest and company coming back out of the East and finally getting that shot to win it all who do you like Man. Well, I mean, the the big question is to eat the books do get taxed past the Hawks. Um, what What? Percentage of the honest are you getting, you know, I mean, he had that hyper extended me. I mean, how serious is that? Is he going to play tonight? Is that something that could linger into the finals? So I think that's huge. And even if Janice does play. I think at the end of the day I like the songs to come away with it. I mean, they're just red hot. They are loaded top to bottom. And you know, you mentioned DeAndre Ayton is emerging as a potential superstar in this league. Devin Booker is is at superstar level. Chris Paul is playing amazing. You know, I love McKell bridges on that team is fantastic. I really like Jae Crowder being on that team. Um, you know, it's just a top to bottom in the job that Monty Williams has done in Phoenix, and you can really trace it all the way back to them going into the bubble, and I think that's really where this team kind of came together..

"Welcome back everybody. Scot Reese with you on a Saturday afternoon. Good to have you along for the ride. You can hit me up at Stanford Voice on Twitter. Great Slater guest today. You heard a bunch in that first hour. I got my man Todd, who shot coming up to talk college football, but also college sports. Um, this whole n I l thing is blowing up. There's so much to go through and so many layers to that we're going to get Todd's take on that. As well as college football landscape in general college football playoff. That sort of thing, Uh, in about 45 minutes we're going to bring in Dave Benz, who is the voice of the Minnesota Timberwolves, former colleague of mine at Comcast SportsNet here a few years back here in the Bay Area. We'll get Dave's take on not only the NBA Finals and the Warriors and what's going on there, but also very nuanced discussion. He's a he's a big time. Baseball card guy and and talk to him a little bit about this card explosion that's been going on. I think a lot of sports fans have sort of embrace this over the last year and a half covid and whatnot that cleaning out the closets, and it has become just a massive, massive boon the the collectibles industry over the last year. So Dr Dave about that in a while, But right now, let's talk Xs and OS with our good friend Bill Lasky, who is going to be working a very long day today, covering Giants baseball into the wee hours of the morning, but Eventually, as they play out in Arizona tonight, Bill, How are you and Happy Fourth of July weekend to you? I'm doing good Scott. And for those that have my baseball card, I think it's up to about a dime now. So you know if you're holding on to it for big money, I don't think it's going to go too much higher than that. You know what I am one of those who holds I can. I can assure you that I have multiple Bill Lasky baseball cards because my heyday was like 1978 to 83 right when I was collecting so not only do I know I have Have a bunch but but one in particular when I was a Comcast and maybe you remember this, You know, I thought it would be kind of a cool thing like a desk ornament to have all of our analysts because we had such a great slate of former players across all the sports, right. Baseball, football, basketball hockey get cards of all of you guys and have them signed. So I still have this kind of lot in my possession of the Lasky Vita Blue FP Santangelo. Bret Hedican. Uh, you know Dennis Brown. I mean, just all the sports and all the crew can Skype and All the great the guys that we worked with. So that was kind of fun. Yeah, that was fun. We had a flu back in that green room back then we had some great laughter. And when they did to Yahoo store, the yahoos shows sports talk. Yeah. Yeah. And, yeah, those were fun and It was just great As you got to see the writer's You've got to see the media. You got to see a bunch of people that covered us when we played for the Giants, and I got to know him, You know, from local cone to a bunch of different people that I haven't seen in years. But then back in the day. It was greatest reminisce with a lot of them. Yeah, no doubt. All right. So before we dive into the Giants, um Something happened yesterday that I'm wondering if it has ever happened in Major League baseball, right? I know you'll appreciate this. Did you see what happened with Pablo Lopez pitching against the Braves yesterday? I did. I got to see that. That was ridiculous. So you know, he he hits the kuna. He gets tossed, but KUNA came around to score and that was the first pitch of the game. So my question for you, Bill is, can you think? Can you imagine that There has been another time in baseball history where a starting pitcher, not a reliever, because I'm sure it's happened, but a starting pitcher?.
