"The season, it's just been ugly. Ugly to watch. And all season long, I've said, I don't really care until Middleton comes back because he's their most important ball handler. He's back now. He's only played a 108 minutes with drew holiday and yada sits in Takuma. Looks okay. Chris doesn't look quite the same to me. He looks a little better every game shooting 29% on threes. They've never been even in their championship year, a particularly artful offensive team. Dave Ben a more bludgeoning offensive team. But they bludgeoned it their way to a ring, and they have, I think, the best player in the NBA or neck and neck with Durant. What do you make of this offense? Is it just sort of like, it'll be fine when they all get more minutes together? Obviously they just got Crowder. Like, what's your concern level here? Because it's been a strange, uneven season. It has been strange and it's been uneven, and it's been without speaking of 22, Chris Middleton. It's been without him. I mean, here's a stat for you, and it's not an advanced stat. But with Chris Middleton and games in 2023, the Milwaukee Bucks are 11 to no. That's a stat. And I think that's a stat. I've been saying all year and I'm not alone. Yeah, the offense sucks, but they don't have their all star jump shooting guy. Okay? So I'm going to take that guy off of any of the other top ten offenses in the league. And tell me what to expect. If I'm taking one of the all star scorers out of a lineup, for years, it's been Giannis pressuring the rim and Chris pressuring the mid range and shooters pressuring the edges. They didn't have Chris. But now they do. He's working his way back in their last 15 games. They're 13 and two. They're offensive rating is a 118. That's very good. I love drew. I love Chris. I love Giannis. I love Brooke. They have enough shooting. They added J Crowder on my concern level, it's very little concern because the defense is you can set your clock by the defense. I think if this team is whole, they're the equivalent of a top ten offense. That's strong. Top ten offense. Yeah, I think that's where they are. Tell me I'm wrong. No, I like it. I like it. And I think there are signs that you're right. They've scored well with Middleton. Just with Yanis and drew holiday, there are plus ten per 100 possessions for the season. Andrew Holliday miss time earlier too. I think Crowder. Now we'll see how Crowder looks. But fair. Crowder and the return of Bobby portis is going to be a huge deal for them because I know he's slumped from three point from three point range after a hot start to the season. He can shoot. We know he can shoot and he can he provides these little sort of like, why are you pointing what is your job? I forgot about yeah, portis is like one of their most important players. He's a versatile piece in their better offensive team when he's available. He provides those buckets that every championship level team needs, which is like, all right, it's late in the second quarter. Everyone's kind of tired. Nothing's working. Can we just throw it to someone and get a workable shot here? And that's what Bobby portis has become for their team, particularly in Middleton's absence, who had Middleton's their best guy for that. So. They have the following 7 guys that I really, really, really trust in the highest level playoff environment. Giannis Middleton holiday Lopez portis Crowder TBD, but I trust him and Connaughton. That's 7. I did not mention Grayson Allen, who I think will remain in the starting lineup once Chris Middleton comes back into the starting lineup. I think Connaughton will go to the bench just because they like the shooting factor. I trust ish Grayson Allen, he's gonna get picked on defensively, but I trust him. That'll get you to 8, and after that, it's like whatever we get from ingles who's looked pretty good, slow, but pretty good. Javon Carter and Wes Matthews is kind of gravy. That's enough guys to me and the Crowder thing is interesting because if they want to go with Giannis center, it's always, that's always a tough decision for them because that's the sexy lineup type that everyone is fascinated by, but portis and Lopez are two of their 5 or 6 best players and putting on us at center means they're both on the bench. But with Crowder, they now have access to a lineup of Middleton Yanis holiday Crowder Connaughton, which might be the best Yanis at center lineup potentially that they've ever had. And then you throw in the Giannis portis combination with Lopez on the bench, that's always worked really well. Gianna's slope has that starts. That's work really well. Sometimes they play all three of them together. I don't particularly love that, but they've had some success with it. They have enough depth and flexibility to put good two way lineups on the floor of all different shapes and sizes if Crowder is ready to give them somewhat expected production. You can't roll in to the playoffs on vibes alone, Zach low. You can not just roll in on vibes alone. I'm interested in whether J Crowder can get his legs back. This dude has not played basketball. In a long time. And NBA basketball is very difficult if he's able to be the J Crowder that you and I have seen before he gives this team. I love the way you frame this. They need to get to an 8 or 9 man rotation. He's a key part of whether they can get there at his ceiling as a spacer and a defender, he really gives this team a championship piece that they didn't have without a ceiling. Now there's a world, though, where he's not the J Crowder. He is playing. He isn't played. There's also a world where he shoots two of 30 from three in a three game stretch. That's another great thing with him to point out. So, you know, in a weird way, role players, we've seen it before, ask the Celtics with grant Williams last year. Players like that can win you games when you need them. And will Jay Crowder be there. It's a big question because yeah, javon Carter nice players, do you want them in the game and closing time? Ultimately, I want to talk just a little bit more about Giannis this is the best player in the world. And it's not just because he scores with about as well as anybody in the league. There are a couple of people better statistically, but his defensive like Evan mobley, he enables this defense to have two room protectors on the court at any given time when Brooke is out there

Chris Middleton Crowder Giannis J Crowder Middleton Bobby portis Chris Takuma Dave Ben Connaughton Grayson Allen drew Yanis Andrew Holliday portis yada Milwaukee Bucks Giannis Middleton Lopez portis Crowder

"On and on and on. Skilled size has been the endgame towns is actually kind of the epitome of skilled size. That's what the unicorns were. And mobley is skilled size. Now mobile Jared Allen, is there enough skilled size there? I think probably there is given what Jared Allen showed as a post player last year. Gobert towns is going to be interesting because it will bear is not quote unquote skilled in the way that I think that conception of the skilled stretch 5 screen assists talks about. Screen is this. I had to bring it up. You're bringing me on on 4th of July. I'm putting screen assists in your lap. Let me tell you. I don't know who's replacing Dave Benz, which by the way, if they announce who's replaced, happy Benz. No, no. It better be, it's gotta be someone who's incredible because them moving on from Dave Ben's shout out, Dave Benz, I'm gonna miss you. I don't know where you've landed or you and Jim Peterson were a big part of my life that is an inexplicable decision to me. If that person and Jim Peterson start mentioning screen assists at 50% of the rate that the Utah broadcast did, I'm switching to the other broadcast from Minnesota games. So that skilled size was always the endgame and Gobert Singh was like, and this is what I keep coming back to. I love Rudy Gobert. I voted him defense player multiple times. I've said he's a Hall of Famer. He is going to be a Hall of Famer. I've put him on my all NBA team not this past year. I put cats. Sorry. I just want to be able to throw him the basketball. I feel like if I'm paying you $45 billion and trading 7 draft assets for you, I'd like to throw you the ball and have faith that you're going to do something with it. That's all. And so we'll kind of see what happens, but I agree with you that I can't wait to watch him play. And I can't wait to watch them play against the clippers because I can tell you this or the warriors or whoever. They're the teams that have the ability to do it, are licking their chops, not because they think the wolves are easy prey for 5 out basketball, but they want to see how it looks and they want to attack them and they want to test them and they think they can be successful. I can't wait to see it. It's going to be, it's going to be a lot of fun. Like I said, I don't know in the end how far that this can go. What is the ceiling on a team like this? But I know it's going to be remarkably different from anything that I've watched here forever and ever. It's also going to be competitive. I feel like I know that. They're going to be a good team, at least in the regular season. They're going to be a team that I think that people will be really intrigued by. And I just back to where we started this podcast. This is an organization that has forever been able to be overlooked and been able to either be just dismissed or be a punchline. And now they are like, I wrote, they're too big to ignore. They are going to be a big talented team that is going to be that is going to be a force in the regular season. And then I do think in the right matchups in the playoffs, they can do some damage. But all I want to see is it on the floor now. I'm going to spend the next three months twisting my brain in a pretzel trying to figure out how all of this is going to work, but I do just think it's one of those things you have to see it on the floor, let it germinate and then see what happens. Too big to ignore is a pretty good slogan actually for like the 2022 2023 wolves. It's much better than the Brooklyn net. It's not that bad. Let me just conclude by going back to the sort of asset play. And the one shot thing. And the idea that they could have another shot down the line if this one fails. Let's just talk it through for two minutes. If it blows, if it doesn't work and you feel like you've got to get out of it. Yes, you'll recoup some of the draft value somewhere along the line in a big trade, or maybe a couple little trades, like a pacers just through the white flag on brogden and say, we'll just take a first round pick. We don't care. If it's a good pick or whatever. And so there's some truth to it. But play it out. If it doesn't work, Gobert is not going to have a ton of trade value because of his contract in his age. So you're only recouping so much from that. You're never trading at. Right. It's just not going to happen. The guy's going to be the face of the franchise for as long as he's happy there. And so that leaves you with, well, who do you trade to recoup a lot of draft assets? Kat. And I hope it never comes to that. I think the supermax was an absolute no brainer for the wolves. I said last week we were going to do a segment on TV. What are the upsides and downsides of a supermax for katniss? There are no downsides. Let's not do the segment. It's all upset. It's Minnesota. Yeah, you have to do it. Yes. And you shouldn't. So yeah, you'd get a bounty for cat, the issue is all the pictures you've then traded are now better picks for the jazz and the picture you've got coming in are from the team that now has Carl Anthony towns and is probably loading up to win a lot of games so those picks aren't that good. So it sounds like, oh, we're neutral. We're back where we started. You're not really and there are alternate versions of this where you come out further ahead. That said, I do think there is some truth to the short window theory of we can recoup some of this by fleecing another team down the line if that's what it ends up at. So look, you're not going to, you're just not going to sell me on the trade. I think it's way too much, but I can't wait. I can't wait to see them play. I'm coming to Minnesota next season. Yes, good. We'll have beers for sure, but I will say this on that part of it, Zach, yet you may not get back to neutral if this doesn't work and you have to blow it up and you have to recoup. But that's not what this should be about. It really, it should be about we believe that this is a way to go forward and we're going big with it. And there is risk involved in something like this. That's naturally going to be the case, but if you're stepping into any deal like this and you're saying, well, if anything, we can just bail out and we'll be back at where we left it in four years. That's not going to be it. You have to be all in on something like this to believe in it. And that's where they are right now. Yes, they have some built in safety nets that they can jump into if it doesn't work. But they may have to take a few steps back. Just ask the wolves do not have to go very far back in history to think, when did we part with a pick that was only lightly protected that we figured, oh, that's not going to be a problem. We have Deangelo Russell, and we have Carl Anthony towns. That pick's going to be well outside the lottery. And then whoops, what happened? So that's the kind of thing that does happen regularly. But I will say finally, kind of, they could have had given what we know that they were able to give up for Rudy Gobert. They could have gone after Dijon Murray with that package and probably outbid Atlanta and got him. They did not do that because they believe that Rudy Gobert was a better fit. That was the one that they really wanted to go after. I think Tim Conley is a smart guy. I think Chris Finch is a smart guy. I think they'll figure all of that out. You can not argue what you just said. About Tim Connelly and Chris Finch. And this has been one of the principles of the way I talk about the NBA. Nobody is stupid. Right. Fans always, this guy's a more on that guy's warrant. What Tim Connolly did in Denver was on its face extraordinary. The guys are really good GM. Chris Finch is an offensive guru. If you don't like a trade, it doesn't mean that the people behind it are suddenly not good at their jobs..

"I mean, the embed option is the way for them to go to protect themselves if they can. We'll see what his camp says. Maybe you split the difference and it's, we'll give you the 5th year player option, but we need to do the non guarantees on there too. Which could free things up for Zion potentially. So we'll see. I think that's Dave Ben creative. We're going to talk about another contract that they signed a little bit later in the show. Here, they don't have the player anymore, but they've been creative with using options and guaranteed language in the past. So yeah, I think there is a good chance that that's the way this goes. But we'll see. It's just be careful. You don't want to upset the player word now. It finally seems like all that noise has started to go away. Not wanting to be there. And that kind of stuff. I was thinking that probably is going to wait quite frankly because I don't know if he feels like he has that kind of leverage to play that right now where he's just coming off a fully missed season. Agreed. Yeah, I think that's a major factor here. So I think Zion is going to be receptive to seeing some portion of his contract non guaranteed. And some protections in there in terms of games played. So we'll see how it ultimately plays out. I think the pelicans have to tread lightly, but I think they have a case here a legitimate one and I think Zion is going to be I think Zion does want to stay, but he also has to understand that the franchise has to protect themselves. And again, I think the pelicans are playing this perfectly if they are looking to do that because they absolutely need to. From one new Lakers head coach to the last time, the Lakers had a head coach that didn't have prior head coaching experience. Luke Walton. I was that was nice because you even had me. I was like, this is a good tease because I don't know where he's going. You didn't know where I was going. Well, I was so two of the Lakers last three head coaches now have been first time head coaches. Then went to Frank Vogel now went to darvin ham, but obviously Luke Walton was brought in to do one job. And then the job completely changed. And they got LeBron and everything shifted. So I still think Lou Walton gets a little bit of a bad rap. But he does land with the Cavs as an assistant coach. I think he's a good coach. I think the situation around him with the Lakers changed. I don't think he did everything perfectly. But again, I do think he's a good coach, good communicator. And excited that he landed with Cleveland, where he actually spent a little bit of time playing back during his playing days. Yeah, and for the last decade and a half, I don't judge any coach really on anything that goes on in the king's for them. Because I just think it's weird stuff happens in Sacramento forgot. Excuse me, I have the hiccups. Oh, I would say two, if you're lukewarm, I hope all that off court stuff is done, then dealt with whatever the situation is there, but clearly Cleveland feels comfortable about being this higher. And I think you'll be a good assistant for JPMorgan staff. Agreed, agreed. All right. Let's get into some of the juicy stuff here. Jake Fisher, bleacher report. Says that the jazz and blazers, both would like to land OG and a nobi, and.

"Has evolved Julie sulli has all the updates from our Singapore studio tools Hey Yusuf What we saw are 6 and a half percent drop in the regional benchmark index in the first quarter and we've started this new quarter also in the red stocks falling for a second session amid the concerns of course about the uncertainty by the war and as we continue to see weakness coming through in these Chinese textures on concerns about delisting in the U.S. You can see China's CSI 300 though up by over 1% So it is an outperformer in the region in the morning session It started to reverse some of those earlier wobbles and actually started to rise with consumer stocks leading these gains despite the concerns about the Shanghai lockdown which is now entered its second phase As I mentioned we are seeing the hang seng tech index under pressure in the Nike under pressure for a third session two Yusuf Meanwhile a number of stock stools in Hong Kong and Dave Ben halted specifically some of the property related names And it's around missing a deadline right Yeah absolutely Missing this deadline for earnings So there has been some I guess a reprieve given to these companies due to the pandemic but we have had 33 companies including the likes of shima and the other property developer under pressure including sunac China halted from trade today really just adding another layer of uncertainty to the overall property sector and this market with the hang seng index down by some 10% over the course of last month We did see it fall by about 2% in the morning session amid these concerns but reversing some of those earlier losses to going on the lunch break only down by about 7 tenths of 1% trading volume is about 40% lower than the 30 day average And we heard from Raymond Shang over at CGS CI MB securities saying that these earning delays could really hurt improving market sentiment from what we've seen from supportive policy So certainly going to be an interesting one to see particularly as is current earnings season is thought to be among the worst in a decade for Chinese developers Yusuf Absolutely Dramatic escalation there on the financial reporting front Jules thank you very much That is truly a sign there Now the UN's World Food Program is raising alarm bells about supplies in the Middle East It warned yesterday that shortages caused by the Russian Ukraine war are exacerbating food pressures in the region No surprise there but the key line being its potentially pushing people to a breaking point Someone foxman is tracking the story So Simone what kind of timeline did the UN give in terms of sort of the outlook for pressures Well the UN's World Food Program saying that these pressures could be felt essentially immediately particularly as the Ramadan holiday begins tomorrow and that they are likely to most deeply impact places where there are economic crises So Lebanon a basket of food there costs 350% more than it did last year also places like Yemen and Syria where there is conflict exacerbating the issue but rising wheat prices also likely to be felt that wheat 15% higher for folks in the street in places like Libya and Palestine World Food Program's ability to buy food is also impacted so the places that are benefiting from its stores are likely to be impacted World Food Program says it's costs for acquiring things like wheat are now 50% higher ultimately however despite this investments that we see from the gulf countries in food security startups there was one from 80 Q yesterday The World Food Program warning that everyone is likely to be impacted no one is spared particularly if the issues that we're seeing in Russia and Ukraine drag on for a long time And then the European Commission closed a four year investigation into Qatari LNG or some of the conclusions Yeah this was really about clauses and qataris contracts that limited the ability of buyers to resell LNG supplies The EU has been very promotional about its ideas for free market of energy And so these clauses seemingly antithetical to that That is why they opened this investigation But we've heard rumblings that it could be drawing to a close for a little while whether because of the fact that EU consumers are now searching the world for new supplies of natural gas or just because they had finished the investigation This does however paved the way for European countries perhaps the EU as a whole to go out and strike those ironclad long-term contracts that cutters so prefers Again remember this is not natural gas that Europe is likely to see immediately but it could be very important for the LNG expansion that Qatar is doing It's going out it's selling new supplies that are likely to come online starting in 2025 as part of its north field expansion project And then in turkey a prosecutor has asked the local court to transfer a legal case over to the Saudi government This is our own Jamal Khashoggi What's exactly behind the move Well the prosecutor here not giving a rationale but Jamal Khashoggi's fiance saying that this has to do with turkey's material interests That's her implication strong implication in a tweet she put out yesterday The idea is that this case wouldn't be prosecuted to the same extent in Saudi Arabia A prosecution that did go on there was seen as lacking by the international community And that's why the fiance has been begging for the last couple of months for turkey not to let this case drop But there are clear material benefits to turkey particularly if it were able to resolve and informal embargo from Saudi Arabia on Turkish imports opening up that new market would really help Turkish president Erdoğan further his goals of supercharging the economy ahead of a potential election that's due by the middle of next year But it is likely to draw some condemnation for the west Mind you countries like in the United States and in Europe their grappling with their own need to balance human rights concerns in Saudi Arabia with the importance of Saudi Arabia as a trade partner So turkey that same issue here we will get a read on whether or not this case is going to move forward in turkey on April 7th Simone thank you very much for that That's about Fox spent the kind of financial center in Doha Let's get back to the oil story because the commodity is heading for the biggest weekly loss in almost two years And in comes after the Biden administration it would have been unprecedented release of strategic U.S. reserves to try and tame rampant prices Meanwhile OPEC plus the alliance met yesterday and they ratified only a modest increase in supply for may Let's bring in Eric schwarz he's the CEO at Ross vana investment bank All right I'm starting to get a headache And it's from the messy oil market Now I've got OPEC plus just standing by and I've got the U.S..

"We want to do a collaboration with the local donut shop called Diablo Donuts. They make crazy amazing doughnuts and We were down there in a meeting and they had a doughnut that had fruity pebbles on it, um, and called Unicorn farts, and we started it. But then it was a group effort We had people from the marketing side or sales side came with the idea of what put edible glitter in there. Because if you're going to make a doughnut or beer that tastes like fruity pebbles based off a doughnut. You just kind of got to own it right all out. And yeah, and then distributors push back on the name. But then the sales team was adamant that he is not going to change the name. So it has become like every beer is kind of a very big group effort. So many people contribute some small things and big things. But Dave, did you everything and we're talking with Dave Ben Feel the founder of Duclaw Brewing, located in Baltimore, Maryland. Did you ever think When you first started out making beer that at some point in this journey that you'd be adding doughnuts to a mash, or you'd be adding all of these different adjuncts to product and You know, everybody talks about beers being these four simple ingredients. Did you ever think at some point you were going to be adding these things to be here? No, no. If you look at it, it's actually talking to a roommate of mine from college and they were just talking about the abuse you come up with, and I was like, I don't think there's anything we would hesitate putting into a beer. As you're trying it because You know, 10 15 20 years ago. "Beer cast for the first time on a m 9 70 the answer. Dave Ben Field, Dave, How are you? I'm doing well. And how are you? I'm doing good. You started Dave, like so many others as a home Brewer. And then, after a couple of years of working in the family business, an electric company, you decided to take a shot. Doing craft beer as a profession to make money now, and you did it at a time when nobody was opening a business based around beer. Did people think you were crazy? Yeah, very much. So, especially where I live in Maryland, where we opened up. It was dominated by Coors Light. And so since we showed up the first Few weeks that we were open. It was they didn't even know what they were drinking. And we heard that a lot. Really. So when you when you first open what were the styles that you guys were brewing? So we opened up with a blonde ale Merits in, Um, blackberry wheat. Okay in a brown ale and Porter, All right, And so people thought, you know, they were like, Wait a minute. This isn't This is in the water dam Coors light that I usually drink. What What's going on here and then you know how I mean. Well, I guess I shouldn't say how long did it take? But obviously it took some time to convert people over to say, Hey, this beer is good, and it's actually you're helping out a small business and we're looking to You know, to expand and to thrive. How long did was that process between when you open and really where it started to take off for you guys. Probably a couple of years we opened in 96 when we were able to open up a second restaurant, Um, about 35 minutes away from the original one in 2000 and one so right around that time, 2000 so about 3 to 4 years to to really latched on, um, just convincing people of different styles. That was right about the time two and 2000. We started doing monthly releases of new styles, so we would.

"Saturday afternoon of this holiday weekend. Hope it is treating you beautifully. Another nice day here in the bay and a nice day to talk some NBA with one of the league authorities. We got one of the play by play voices of the association here with us, and he might just be a familiar voice here in the Bay area. Dave Benz, who, once upon a time not only was an anchor and host at Comcast SportsNet Bay Area, but also did some some hanging out here at K and B, R and hosted shows on this very network. Now the voice of the Minnesota Timberwolves. Dave Good to have you on on this holiday Saturday, and the first thing I got to ask you since we've got this whole Warriors Timberwolves connection now going back a couple of years. What is the Minnesota view of this deal? The D'Angelo Russell Andrew Wiggins deal that now has the Warriors and not the T wolves with his number seven pick coming up. Um, well, first and foremost, thank you for calling me an NBA authority. I don't know if you cross reference that with the league, so might get us all in some trouble. Um, but, you know, I think that the way things turned out, I think the Timberwolves actually are feeling a lot better about the situation than they would than they were before the draft lottery. And what I mean by that is, you know if if that pick had if that pick had fallen at four, or maybe even at five because we all know that this this drafters, you know, five guys that seemed to be everybody unanimously thinks they are going to be really special in the league. I think if the Timberwolves had had had that pick land at four or five And, you know, had to eat some crow in terms of sacrificing a chance to get one of those guys. I think that it might be a different take. But the fact that the pick landed at seven. Um, I think a lot of people here in Minnesota are are okay with that. You know, if you said, hey, we're giving up the number seven pick plus getting out from under the Andrew Williams Max deal, which was not very popular here and getting D'Angelo Russell back in return. I think I think a lot of people are happy with the way things turned out. We'll see. Long term. You know how Dean as well Russell can compare when he actually gets legitimate playing time with Carl. I think towns because that's been the boogaloo since D Lo got to town is that they have not played a ton of minutes together. They did play. Lot of time together over the last 10 12 games of the season, and the team was somewhere around 500 over that final stretch. So, uh, you know, there's a lot to collect, potentially about the way this could play out. But yeah, there's like I said, a lot of people breathe easy. Um, when they saw Hey, we're not getting that the pick. We're losing the pick. That ideally would have been the best case scenario. But having it called seven That was probably the second best possible scenario. And I think a lot of people are okay with that. And of course, that pick may or may not wind up staying with Golden State. So I realized the Warriors are no longer your chief concern here, but from an NBA wide standpoint, obviously still a very relevant franchise with a ton of upside going into next season. What do you think this team should do when you've got a number seven. Pick a number 14 pick you've got James Wiseman, who may or may not be part of the long term plans depending on what might be available right now. There's a lot of moving parts here. What do you think is the best road for the dubs? Um, you know, I'm a believer and if you've got a chance to win, you win and you take it because you never know what the future is going to bring And you know, obviously, steps is still playing in an unbelievably high level with legitimate MVP candidate this past season and was so fun to watch. But we also know that you know, step is definitely on the back nine of his career, and I mean he's always going to be able to shoot, so I think he'll be relevant and being leaked for quite a long time. But how long is he going to be able to remain? An M V P type candidate, you know, I think that that that the tread on that part of the tire is probably not as thick as you know, as anybody in the Bay area would like, you know, quite coming back from an injury. I hope he can get back to where he was. Um, but I think this team that plays healthy and, you know, step is still going to be, you know, probably in that neighborhood of M V P type step for at least another season. And you know, Draymond is in the prime of his career. I don't see why. If you're Bob Myers with all the assets, not the chips that you've got, why you wouldn't try and and, you know, make this franchise you know, in a position to be able to compete for a championship, and I don't think that they're that far away. I mean, if Clay is healthy, and quays can get back to being one of the best two way players in the league And you got step playing anywhere near what he was playing this past season. And you know whether it is Andrew Wiggins, a guy that is going to stay or take a package into a deal. Who knows? But you know there's chips to play with and there's there's certainly things to build around. So I mean that I don't see why the wars wouldn't go for it, especially, I mean it's It seems to me like the league is kind of wide open right now. I mean, who saw Phoenix being in the in the NBA Finals when the season started, and you know the same thing and then the other side with the East? I mean, everybody thought, you know, Yannis in Milwaukee, you might have a chance to get there. But nobody saw Atlanta getting there. So I mean, it's wide open right now. And if you've got an opportunity when you're totally you gotta go for it. NPR The sports leader, Scott Reese, chatting with Dave Ben's voice of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Dave Since you bring up the Sons and the Bucks and the Hawks. I got to ask you about the NBA Finals, even though obviously the pairing is not completely set. Yet. Phoenix has been such a great story. Devin Booker, I think long one of the underrated stars in America, DeAndre Ayton playing at a high level we saw what Chris Paul did. Um, but if it is, in fact, the honest and company coming back out of the East and finally getting that shot to win it all who do you like Man. Well, I mean, the the big question is to eat the books do get taxed past the Hawks. Um, what What? Percentage of the honest are you getting, you know, I mean, he had that hyper extended me. I mean, how serious is that? Is he going to play tonight? Is that something that could linger into the finals? So I think that's huge. And even if Janice does play. I think at the end of the day I like the songs to come away with it. I mean, they're just red hot. They are loaded top to bottom. And you know, you mentioned DeAndre Ayton is emerging as a potential superstar in this league. Devin Booker is is at superstar level. Chris Paul is playing amazing. You know, I love McKell bridges on that team is fantastic. I really like Jae Crowder being on that team. Um, you know, it's just a top to bottom in the job that Monty Williams has done in Phoenix, and you can really trace it all the way back to them going into the bubble, and I think that's really where this team kind of came together..

"Now you're up in toronto. How was that switch. So pretty wild. We actually moved almost a year ago by between like winter. And you know. Toronto is locked down for a while pretty much last week. Like economy felt like life outside of our home. I guess was kind of on pause but everything's been great. It's been really nice to be around a lot of friends and family and all always good know. Hang sunshine back here. We definitely missed the la sunshine for shorten the colder mutton but loving are nice canadians teen. I'll be good. Stop canada's dog. That's amazing team is phenomenal. I've been of it. Yeah when i talked to div right. I'm date for a while back when he was still living in new york and stuff like that. So i reached out when i when i knew that you guys had archie and i talked to him about a month in you guys are now almost eighteen months in. How has dave been taking to this fatherhood experience so i remember i listened to the podcast and dave is just so inspired you so honest and open and our chain looks definitely like the first month was. He wasn't the easiest baby like he. I remember together to go down for not like we had to like swaddled pacify or bounce on a ball. Go in the bathroom tersest. Thank like and you know. Obviously we're talking about it but you're kind of in survival mode so your podcast is a great way for me to be like i listen to you. Let's really talk this show by dave's ben unbelievable. He's been a hero. He's been iraq of our family for sure. We are having so much fun. She is in like the absolute most delicious aims right now. He just started walking. Or shall i say like drunk stumbling joan subbing definitely that. That's my favorite part of what they walk is when they're learning how and it just constantly reminds you of when you're in college and you were hammered coming back home from the bar. That's the best you so cute reflect trot hughes late walker. Like he walked. He's like sixteen months. I i think it's a late walker. Like it seems based on his friends on his friends and my friends went. He like taught him the word walk and like he's started. When you started walking he would walk and then start walking and so excited that his body during that that's awesome. That's awesome and david. Dave actually would say the same thing about you. You said that. He's like the rock of the family. What i spoke to him he said that you were superhero and rockstar and the rock and family for that. So it's awesome that you guys have that kind of synergy with each other and have that type relationship for you. Both looking each other as the rock. That's pretty that's pretty awesome. What what what is it about dave. That makes him so awesome as a dad. What is it about him is his energy is. There's specific things that he does that. Just you know makes it easier on you or just brings the energy some table. What what what does he do that. That really makes him that important piece and made a list of like twenty abashed. We are so like just pinch me. We're so lucky. It really night but i will say like like him as a person is phenomenal but i think like we really balance each other out like i'm a thinker consume respect like..

"Completely out of your skull. If they bring in the original big baller brand son, you would when he seems day the one thing I would say from that is that he seems to at least have distanced himself from his dad. And so maybe that wouldn't be his big of an issue and then on the court, like you said, Now he's not a shooter. Future 29% from three point Reddick little bit better, but Reddick's only shooting 30% from three this year, So he has been good, but is he said if you're looking scam? Yeah, not good. But if you're looking long term, you just hit right in the head balls, 23 you get playback and all the sudden you have a three guard rotation. That's pretty good. And then you can get stuff off the ball with Lonzo clearly. And Lonzo 66 so he could defend multiple positions. He's a pretty good defender. So you know I was I was down on Lonza. But if you put him, I think in the right role, I think if he's if he's your third guard, and he's a ball handler and defender And I think that's not a bad situation. Where is this contractor? You've got to read you? He's got coming up. He's got. Yeah, He's got 11 million this year, and then he's got the qualifying offer next year at 14. So you if you wanted to keep them You have to come up with the qualifying offer of 14.3 next year. Or you could really go. Yeah, that's a lot. That's I don't know where they don't know where the luxury tax line's gonna be next year. Hopefully, we're fully past the pandemic and it goes back to normal and we got people in the crowd and I don't know. But you got big money. You know, with those four positions. We talked about it 123 and four with stuff and play and Andrew Wiggins and Draymond So I, You know, I do like Lonzo ball. That's that's a lot of money, though. So maybe, you know, maybe maybe it's JJ and you just taken expiring back. But I wonder what the motivation is with you, Bray. I think he's playing better, and he's playing clearly better in the second quarter. Unit, but this would be You know, it's also the buyout market. You're gonna come and do and they do have they never used the disabled player exception. Right exemption, whatever it is for with clay. So they do have money there. Um I don't know. I mean, I don't think you braise the kind of guy here we signed in the offseason. But I don't mean ball would just kind of pushed that decision back a year. That's that's a lot of money for a third guard, even though I think he does fit stylistically. Is that their guard behind the splash brothers, but that's a lot of money. They pay a guy to be a third guard. All right. For now, it is just rumors. By the way, they couldn't trade Kelly. You break junior somebody they traded for until February, 6, but that's coming in. But that was remember. That was the D'Angelo Russell countdown We had last year. They couldn't trade him to that. J remember, And in February, 6 arrived have allure. Ship of the Rosa. Dave bends at Tweet. Dave Ben's He's a pal of ours. Area guy Voice of the Timberwolves. Where's beat the Timberwolves last night? We have a lot to discuss with day. We haven't seen him since Miami joins us, courtesy of the room, I guess line how are you? I'm okay. And just for the record that shape Lazar party wasn't really that cute. Anyway. Way to say Use me. I didn't even go even go to the party. I don't know where I ended up that night. Yeah, very defensive. Very were. I may I may have turned on the show right for you. That you I think you were still recovering from the night of the Clevelander. We all it was right. But that was that was epic, anyway. I was thinking of you last night watching Andrew Wiggins because you know what the Warriors traded for D'Angelo Russell right away. I'm looking to trade him for wickets in Minnesota last year, Bennett, he gets off to a great start. Then they wind up, you know, coming back, and they they want to get the point guard. So just give me your thoughts on this. The first time Andrew Wiggins has played against the Minnesota Timberwolves. You've obviously seen his entire career. I thought he was the best player on the floor Last night, Steph detonated here and there ever. Wiggins was really good on the ball and offensively, So did he look different to you? What did you see from number 22. Last night, Benny. I mean, what do you look to me? Last night was like a guy I saw, you know, he played 400 something games in the timber was uniform and I saw that guy Maybe 20 times when the lights come on with him when he's locked in. He is an unbelievable talent. Um, and for whatever reason, finding consistency with him doing that was always the problem when he was playing for the timber rules, and when they made the trade last year, I kind of felt like You know what this is Probably a really good situation for Andrew because he's going to go into a place where he doesn't have to be the face of the franchise. He doesn't have to carry the load. He can be the number two or number three options, scoring the basketball and he's gonna have veterans around him that are in a solid system that has, Ah, you know, culture of winning. I felt like all the pieces were in place for him to be able to kind of excel and you know to see him that I mean Modena three blocks last night, he's at Virginia, You know, over a block and a half a game this season time it is His career average was like 0.4 before this season started, so it's just phenomenal. And, you know, I hear they're called him to weigh wigs now, which you know the seat to see him exert that effort on both ends of the floor. Like I said, I saw it in clashes, but you know if you guys were going to see that consistent, consistently, hey, could be a difference maker. There's no question Voice of the temperatures are found. Dave Ben's joining us the war's over the Timberwolves, and they've got another one. Tomorrow night. The trade happened February 7th 2020 around here. We like to trade you get the protected pick. What is the view of that trade now from a Timberwolves perspective? Well, I think right now, everybody still feels from our perspective that it's incomplete because you really brought two years well, Russell to Minnesota to play with Karl Anthony towns you feel like the low can handle the pick and roll and be a perfect complement, toe setting towns up. Um and you've been able to see them together on the court for five games, so it's been really difficult to assess. Is this going to be a good fit? Is this going to be, you know, kind of future of the franchise. Andante kill Karl Anthony towns can get back on the floor consistently, and, you know, I wish him quite well. Going through Covert is not fun, and his family's been affected by it more than perhaps anybody else in the entire NBA. Haven't lost his mom very early on back in the spring, and, um, you know, lost a couple of other relatives as well and His father had it had, you know, had a tough time shaking it, and, thankfully, his father was able to recover. So you know it's It's something that really hits him personally, but and so you can get cap back on the floor in and see him running alongside the low for a sustained amount of time. It's really tough to assess how that traders from the general's perspective matter. You mentioned the nickname that Stephan is bestowed on Andrew Wiggins to weigh wigs and Yeah, He's not Clay Thompson. He does guard the ball. Well, I think some of these blocks he's getting your LeBron's chase down blocks where he could speed off the dribble. But he does stay right on the on the back of the hip of the driver and still makes a play on the ball, which is impressive. But he's playing what they want to get. You know, defensively around, Adam says him on the ball, but I remember when he was in Minnesota. Fivethirtyeight dot com, which is an interesting website. I think they do better in politics than they do in sports, but they Grated him. What was it like the worst defender in the entire N ba? What was she that bad of a defender? When how many coaches that he played for both Saunders and Sam Mitchell and Tibbs You played for, like, four. I think that would see that bad of it. Offender with you guys. Well again. Like I said, Greg, it was in flashes. When he was engaged. There was nothing. He couldn't do it. I mean, there were times I remember his rookie year game down in Houston against the Rockets, where they put him on harden and he locked James Harden up. And, you know, looks fantastic defensively, But then there'd be other games where he didn't really look like he was engaged and was disinterested. For whatever reason, and you know, people would would breathe volume so It is that's always been. The thing with Andrew is always being the consistency that the ability has never been a question from day one from the time he arrived in Minnesota Um,.
