"Yes, your draft picks being New York Steak, Bloody Mary Gravy and cherry pie. Correct And I'm trying to trade The gravy. Uh, I was trying to build mashed potatoes. Corn and then the gravy on top it. I smashed the corn into the potatoes. Put the gravy over the top thick gravy. Nothin not liking all Jew like a thick gravy. Excuse me. You heard me. What kind of what? Thick gravy, not in our Jew. A huge jus. Two words, So I French do exactly. I see. Understand. Like I said, Uh, hey, get out of there. J. R and it's awesome. That is like One cheap thing that I really, really love once a year. That's really good. Really good and Tyler went left it all up for me, but taking mashed potatoes. That's just bad. Advance scouting by you. So I grabbed the gravy thinking one of you guys. They're gonna want the gravy and I can move on from the gravy and I'll figure that part of it out. We will finish up the third leg of our draft. Living later on our show. Yes, we will. So who do you like? Best picture in the city? Is it Giolito? Is it Yu Darvish? Is it Kyle Hendricks? I think that really does turn the corner. Now, here's the thing. Tyler makes the point about McCann and I wish McCann was still with the White Sox. But he's gotta get his own opportunity, right. But at some point, Julie don't know matter of him. Whether you're gonna have his caddy this year or not, he's just have to pitch better. I just think that what we saw last year and again Pandemic with you Can ID or not? You saw some signs. They're from Giolito. Now in big games against the twins you had to come through now. He's not an ace. I don't think there is an ace in the city. But I believe that Jill Edo is now coming into his own from a guy who struggle a couple years ago to now, the lights turning on from someone cut the light on on Giolito. How can you say that? There's not an ace in the city. We just had a guy finished second and Cy Young pandemic shortened season. I get it. And another guy on the same side of town who beat Clayton Kershaw to get you to the world. Syriza's pitched in Game seven of the world Syriza's Kyle Hendricks. Al Hendrix. Yeah, I like Kyle Hendricks a lot. Absolutely becomes your number one if you trade for him right now. Number one. He goes ahead of Giolito and Michael. Yes. Okay. Yes. Oh, Darvish goes to Giolito three. I don't think those socks would look at that. Initially. I don't want to rattle the locker room. Yeah, you don't think have you know he comes in there? Angelito and titles like What about us? We'll teach you how to win there. David there. We just bring in Kurt Clayton Kershaw that we just bring in Kyle Hendricks. Kyle Hendricks, who says I shut out Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers. I beat them five. Nothing really good. Really? Yes, absolutely. To the phones. 3123323776 Dalo on the north. Side. What's up? Hey, how you guys doing? Jell O. Buddy, What happened? You went straight cap on this one Giolito, the on Lee elite picture in Chicago before the commercial break. You said Eve elite. When you have Yu Darvish. Who clearly was traded out of Texas, injured and did not Fully recover until he had that last surgery and went to the recovery. And now you're looking at the real Yu Darvish Giolito maybe. Number three, maybe number Or in Chicago. Hey, you know what? Yu Darvish the pointed to make about you next year. I want to see him in a full complement of games and have that type of Cy Young performance because we saw last year. That's what the Cubs are looking for, right? Again. It is a shortness season. A guy that didn't want to pitch, but he gave his best. That's the best. I've seen him even with the Dodgers. I didn't think he was that locked in. What I want to see Dal. Oh, is that for the full season for you to be that guy turned the clock back and being the picture? I think he can be. Thanks, man. Appreciate the call. Have a good Thanksgiving 312332. 3776 guess The question is, How do you value this last season? In terms of real, right? I mean, it was a covert in due season, it was shortened, but it was as difficult everyone played under the same parameters. So do you count the stats, or do you not like you can't tell me that? Tim Anderson had a great year last year and that Yu Darvish didn't because he didn't play enough games. So you have to be consistent all the way through. So that means that if you're not going to count the year that you had last year that you can't count last year for Giolito, either. See what I'm saying. Yeah, that makes sense. Fair enough. Yeah, I could just look at the production and just say for the short amount of games I liked what I saw for 60 games. 60 plus games, right? So that was real because he finished second in the Cy Young voting, right? Yeah. Fish? Yeah. What I'm saying is like what? The performance that we saw from you. I'd like to see for a full season. Right, so I won't. So here's what I will do. I will count what we saw and say there is a glimmer That fair. That's not even half a season. We saw by the way it was only 60 plus games, right? Yeah, I'll take that. So for the glimmer. I thought that he looked good. Yeah, give him a glimmer and let's see how it goes. That fair. That's very good. I'll do it that way. The glimmer itself just saying What we saw was a mirage. I'll just say four of the 60 games we saw That guy had a slice like stuff, correct. And I just want to see that for a full season. We saw a glimmer. Yeah, I like that. So that from from the little the glimmer from Brady, you glorify manderson. Correct, right, Robert, Right? Yeah. Least you had some guys perform. Our offense was Dog me 3123323776,.

"Fans. They see scavenge a hood on ESPN 1000 and streaming on the new ESPN Chicago AB. All right. We roll on capture a hood on a Tuesday before Thanksgiving in the Great city of Chicago. Hope you're safe and hope you're healthy. It is 902. Jed Hoyer on Zoom, Met the media it yesterday. Hoody. He's It's now his shop. He is in charge, right? So do you expect Major major change. I expect some change Major change. That means that you're going to knock it down to the studs. Do you think that will happen? I don't know. If it's knocked down to the studs. I still believe that there would be some remnant of the chairmanship team around. Maybe that means Anthony Rizzo. That means Rizzo. That means Rizzo. What I'm saying is, is that with this team We start and look back at the Theo administration, where it's successful on one end that you win a World Series championship. You have sustained success, but you're not really equipped for the future. Do not And the team underachieved. And there will be some like me in our interview with Theo that question like, Hey, you know, while you're struggling after in 17 18 no major changes were made. You still believe that corner Corn would not do it as uncle L C would say that dog just won't hunt. It didn't do anything. You know Aziz far as the offense of problems that a team headed 16 So now it's judge show and jet has the opportunity to be able to say You know what? We gotta replenish his farm system. That means they're going to sell off pennies to the dollar to some of our assets. We have to do it because we gotta get younger and better quickly. Here is Tom Ricketson. Are they tearing it down? Well, I mean, I would always always take Judge recommendation on what to do with what happens on the field. But but I don't think anybody's tearing anything down. The the fact is that you know, we have a good club. I think people excited to see us back on the field next year. I'm just gonna just like everyone else. Just hope that the combination of all the variables that are out there Gonna break our way and we can get people in the park as soon as possible. Okay, That was Tom. Wait, stop. Pause. Its jets call, isn't it? It is And what's he talking about? Well, I think they've probably had lengthy conversations about what direction are we going here? What do you see us going? So with Darvish and Hendrix fronting your rotation. You can't tear it to the studs. Unless you're gonna move those guys said he says We're tearing anything down. You're gonna roll out. That's when that same ball club in 2021 u better not know shit. So what's he talking about there? Wanted again. Hold it close to the vest. We are going back and forth in front of figure out what's best for the ball club. Okay, So does that mean then you're going to extend contract offers long term to Bryant by as Rizzo contrary, Schwarber Where's Jed Hoyer? You know, First of all. Without specifying, Chris. You know, we have a lot of great players in this roster. We have some guys that had great years last year, and we have some guys that down years, but I certainly wouldn't speculate about the future of any one guy at this point. Miss Farr's extension talks. We have none ongoing right now. No, but certainly we have players on this roster that we'd love to have here for a long time. So at some point the future I think we'll probably pick those up. But right now there's nothing on going Many great players in the Cubs roster cap 2020. Great player. Everybody said in the beginning, right? Yes, I'm holding. You see if you were in Chicago, and we have to listen to everything to degrade your detail of what these people are saying, right? Because your cup fan has to decide whether not when you can get back to the stands when that you want to pay through the nose again to see that product. Underachieving product that we've seen for 2017 underachieving meeting that after the 16 championship, they didn't look like a World Series team. They did not so because I've never seen a team that good. Go through a three year slump. Correct? I did. Great players on the roster. Who then I got the yellow pad ready. Give me those great players in this cub's roster. I would still put Harvey or bias on that list. Gold Glove? Yes. 60 Game pandemic conduce season prior to that. Yeah, he's still a great, great player. I'll throw the pandemic. You're out. Okay Through all this. 60 game. Nonsense, Right? Throw it out. Yep. Will secure traitors to still a great player. Thanks. So I Dok started multiple years in the All Star game. Big arm plays with passion. Yeah, I would still put him there and I'd put Anthony Rizzo there. He just want his fourth Gold glove. He prior to the pandemic. He's you write him in for 30 and 100, every single year leader in the room face of your franchise, four gold gloves and a platinum club. That's it. You're not saying Hayward? No, not a word, huh? No, not Schwarber. No. Okay. And not you. I could be convinced I was thinking. Just position players. Um I don't know, Brian. No, I don't think you have a great pitcher on the Cubs. That now Lester is gone. So you don't look at Yu Darvish or Kyle Hendricks is someone that confront the rotation, not front of rotation. Now. Kyle is part of the rotation. Save cows on a good team. That's a three starter, but he'll give you quality. I'll take the quality because he's gonna give me six innings plus off a quality start. More times. I dropped him on the White Sox roster just dropped on there. Yeah, I can't use them. You tell me He's the three on that team. No shot not to know He's not a one..

"You to meet someone who's really session. It's black and abdominal. Real inspiration was on the ground at black and abdominal and at ESPN underscore Chicago. So the Cubs are in a tough spot, right? Because you don't make the playoffs. This year. Are you? You made the playoffs. We lose in the in the wild card round. You don't make the playoffs last year. Your core four who's gonna be back? I don't know. I mean, I think we assume hobby bias. We know that Rizzo's under contract. Outside that will controls be back. We'd be moved. Well, Chris Brian get a new deal. Will he be moved? College Schwarber? Will he be back or will they just let him walk in half? Obviously the best player last season for this team, he'll be back in the fold. Jason Heyward. Very good. But like You know, you have two real good starting pitchers. You have Yu Darvish, Kyle Hendricks. And then you kind of have to figure it out from there. Yeah. Jon Lester. Will he be back or is he done in a cubs uniforms? So like Commie excitement that Jed Hoyer is now the president of operations for the Chicago Cubs, But under the same context of being excited that he's taking over for Theo Epstein, he's been a part of what has created the situation that the Cubs currently sit So when you say like it's great Jed's taking over for Theo. Well, yeah, if you if you only look at the positive side of comes baseball in the last five years. Yeah, it's great. If you want to add in the negative side where this team's been going backwards, and they don't really know where they're going to navigate into the future of with this team, whether or not they're going to be able to rebuild, retool or continue to compete for championships, and that's before we even get to the budgetary issues that the ownership group is going to give this new president of baseball operations Like part of me questions us by saying if we were If we were Pointing out the flaws in this organization. We have to be accountable and point that Jed's been a part of all of this, and now he's taking over as team president. And that's why who he hires his GM, I think will be impactful right? Because It's got to be someone who adds to this. That isn't the same old think tank that we've been seeing the last few years. Yeah, I think you'll get that because I think that's part of the reason why Theo left. I think part of him resigning. Ah, year earlier, then his contract, said he then then the end of his contract would be because that there is going to be a rebuild and what's the point? Of Theo sticking around. If he's not going to be here to see the fruits of this labor, right if he's not going to be there when whoever they trade and you get prospects back to see it come through, like, like, I don't think I don't think he's the type of person nor I think Jen is the type of person that would want and feel wouldn't be the type of person to do this to someone where they're sitting over their shoulder. Be like, Hey, I'm gonna not necessarily micromanage but assist. Everything that you're doing, and then I'm out at the end of the year, so I don't end like help facilitate these deals and be like, well, Jed, I don't know about that. Or maybe because you know they've they've not fought, but they've had disagreements on certain things as any front office would about certain prospects and certain trades and certain deals and things like that, and Theo's been more vocal about certain things, and Jed's been more vocal about certain things. And I think that you can tell that by feel leaving that this is going to be maybe not necessarily a full rebuild like it was before where you're literally going to trade everybody and then just acquire young talent and getting be bad and have high draft picks. I think this is gonna be more of a A retooling. That's like if we had a meter, and this was rebuild, and like this was retool like you'd be kinda over to the right more where you're closer to rebuild in between rebuilding retool, because yeah, you can. I mean, look, if you can work something out with Jon Lester, you're gonna give him 10 million anyway, because that's his buyout, right? And so if you could get him for an extra three million just to have his farewell tour, fine, That's fine. You put butts in seats, Not like you're worried about butts in seats anyway, with who knows how many, But they're gonna be allowed in seats and it's Wrigley. But Serbian gonna be in seats anyway, You know. What do you do with Yu Darvish? This is probably his highest value possible. What do you do with Kris Bryant? Is there any value there? What do you do with Javi? Bias? Is there any value there? How Schwarber does he come back? You know any of these pieces? Wilson Contreras, So I think you've got pieces that you can get prospects for. It's just a matter of what they think they can do this year if you think you can compete. You're not trading Yu Darvish. If you think you can compete, compete, you're going to keep Chris Brian around and not trade him. If they trade Yu Darvish that it's you know, it's a rebuilt. You know, it's a rebuilt because that's your highest valued player. Right? And tomorrow, Jason Heyward will join water on Sylvie tomorrow three o'clock. Just give that plug in. It's for you. Thank you. Jason Heyward got the plug in on the show tonight..

"Because at least it's sort of checks, A couple boxes, some fresh eyes, but someone he knows and won't have to sort of get up to speed that much. I That's an important decision without a doubt, and I'm not downplaying it. But right now from the outside looking in My huge questions are about what the hell are they going to do with this roster? Who are they going to pursue, trying to keep And who are they just going toe? Decide to let go. And not much has changed in my mind. I think we've talked over the last 12 months about this. I mean, I was adamant that Brian might be gone by the beginning of last season. That didn't happen. But still, that's the top of the list. Guy 20 million more than likely going to move on one way or another. I think they'd prefer trade get a little something back for him. This could be his first big move as Cubs presidents. But Jess, you're saying it's it's. It's even an option that they wouldn't even tender him. And then he would become an unrestricted free agent. I don't think I think I'd give that a 10% chance of happening. And the only reason I give it that high is because I just don't know how financially bad things are. I know it's bad. I don't know how bad but I'd give that a 10% chance. You just I even in this world, you just don't non tend not you just not Don't non tender a player like that, so it could be a pre December 2nd trade. That's the deadline, Or maybe they tend to him and then traded Remember, they don't have to start paying him until the season, so you have plenty of time to trade them. But the price tag is on him once Sort of next week comes about so to speak. So I do think he's gone one way or another. I think we'll stick your tresses the next time the list not making as much have to talk to you about this before, but he can bring you back a lot, and they're good enough. You have a luxury tea. Keep two catchers to decent catchers. Cara Teeny could be a starter in this league for the Cubs has already Darvish his guy. So KB and controls their one into weird thing about Schwarber at Let's say another guy because he's out there is they haven't really had a lot of contact with, like I haven't heard. Tons of negotiations were cows former over the years or even recently feels like they're just going year to year with him. I could see them trading him. I could also see them bringing him back on one more year. And then maybe he does walk where they trade a mid season. The one guy I just do not think that will be traded. This hobby buys. I still think they're gonna build around him. Everything's on hold right now. I mean, it's real interesting hearing Tom and Jed talking. How are you supposed to go about your business? Starting with payroll when you don't know if 10% of fans 30% of fans, 80% of fans, 0% of fans are going to be in the stands. So this is why I really January. Maybe February is going to be a lot of the you know where the offseason occurs for a lot of teams. Not the big names will get their money wherever they go whatever time But I think the longer you wait, the more information you have. So my point is hobby bias. Was this close and put my fingers real close together to signing with the Cubs before the pandemic. Now it's on hold. But I do think they'll pick that up soon. So again, Bryant controls most likely to go Schwarber, I guess probably back on a one year thing by as they build around. That's my viewpoint of those four guys. Jesse, I look, I'm not this big, great business leader. But I've always been taught that a good business decision even if you are cat cash strapped, is more about return on investment. So just to give away Chris Bryant, whether you don't tender him for the 10% like you said, or you just get a little something back as you mentioned like, why not go into the season and keep him? Play. Um and then when things get better during the season, Hopefully we have a vaccine. Hopefully, things get better, and if you're not in it, you trade him at the deadline and perhaps get something better for him. I think that was a scenario that would have gone into last year with on then the pandemic kitten, and it's just a weird trade deadline. I think that would have happened. Last summer. Um, I just don't know about the monetary part of it. I I just don't know if they can afford to keep him and do everything else They want to do on def keeping him sort of hamstrings them from doing these other things even for half a season. I don't know the answer that I don't think anybody knows the answer that Maybe Jen and Tom doing they're not not necessarily saying I just don't see a lot of scenarios where he's on the Cubs opening day, Not saying impossible, but I don't see a lot of scenarios. Look It goes back to that whole Schwarber thing. Member trade him at his peak after he won the world Syria's well they want they invested in him, keeping him thinking he'd be an M v P someday. Now is value is going down. Same thing with Bryant. But no one thought is value will plummet the way it has in a lot of different ways. Starting with the fact that he's one year away from free agency. So either way still be. The answer is you're getting 50 cents or less on the dollar because he's either one year way or is two months away. And, frankly, hitters on July 31st don't bring back the moon pitchers do. Not hitters, miss. Well, speaking of that, I mean, what is the appetite for? Maybe moving Darvish Because Darvish.

Yu Darvish, Cubs became perfect fit over time

"Now I wanted to ask you about this in it's a harder question to. Answer Two thousand twenty because we're it's not like we're in club houses and we can watch the body language and see players and how they interact with each other i. know in that first year that there were people in the cubs organization who felt like that darvish just wasn't comfortable with the group and it didn't have any do I. Personally I don't think with the other players on the team, but just he maybe was just the pressure of the contract where it felt like he was more of an outsider, not completely within the team realm what what are you seeing? What are you hearing more? So about that now? Get Away, I can relate it from my world reporting world. Is that first year it even though he speaks fine English, he used a translator all year with the media. Now he didn't use it with his teammates but. I think that was is an example of how things change in the second year last year he spoke English, his personality came out he he he got he got to know reporters like myself a lot better and then this year in Spring Training Boston he was like the class clown he was having a great time with us until things shutdown ironically or I guess that's the right word coming back from the pandemic only being able to zoom interviews he's been different. He's been back to being kinda quiet and back he's used a translator at times in the zoom interview so the other thing. Is. He's having so much success. You know how guys are in the middle of a great run they don't WanNa really talk about themselves so much, and that's all we're asking is about him. So things have gone a little quiet this year, but there's good reasons behind it but from year one year too when you're two to three, he changed big time and you might be right. It might be the contract I think coming off what happened in world series in seventeen with the dodgers really affected him as well big time, and then he comes to the cubs in eighteen huge contract big market. Diehard of bands everywhere expecting the world and you know he was also injured as it turns out so that first year was a mess and then slowly but surely he came out of his show that these interviews in English teammates got the no one better 'cause even in even in eighteen. Teammates I saw with Rizzo hanging out on the road and stuff like he was still tight with teammates but not the saint he wasn't outgoing now he's outgoing and that really is true personality. So it Kinda mimics what he's done the mount he's become self again on the mound as well as in the dugout in the clubhouse and with the media.

Yu Darvish Takes No-Hitter Into 7th As Chicago Cubs Beat Brewers

"About That the best Yu Darvish has thrown is a member of the Cubs. He took a no hitter into the seventh inning of what turned out to be a 42 Cubs win over the Brewers of Wrigley Field. Justin Smoak broke up a no hit bid with a home run in the seventh. But Darvish was approaching the 100 pitch mark, so he wasn't too concerned about the No. No, the same time. I know I'm not going nine ng because of pitch count, so Just, you know, trying to keep the game close, which, of course, he did. Niko Horner and Kyle Schwarber home, Oring and Darvish, noting that the starting pitchers on the staff push one another way of putting pressure on each other. Yu Darvish Pitches Chicago Cubs Past Royals For Sixth Straight Win

"Straight wins for the Cubs 6 to 1 over the Royals in Kansas City, and Yu Darvish gave up just to run on five hits over seven innings to get the win and also draw the praise of manager David Ron. Other great start from him mixed his pitches well, like he really took off once we got the lead, pounding the zone, mixed his pitches really well and I just love to finish on the last three couple innings were just blowing some some real fastballs by guys. "That'd be a great place. I mean, he's from the south from Alabama. Maybe he goes to Atlanta and plays there and has that lineup in that ballpark. That could be a great thing for his up for him. He could be the backup plan in New York. If they don't get Machado. Trying to think of other spots that would fit him? Well. Yeah, can't can't really think of anything else up my head. But I mean, those are the two that jump out to me, which would be great landing spots for a guy like Josh Donaldson. And really, I think, you know, he's one of those guys where his power is gonna play anywhere. So I'm not necessarily worried about too much about where he goes looking for the one of those spots that would give a huge boost. I'm probably be the high end of if I was doing that way too early mock draft down some and be on my team in the fourth round. What about you Darvish coming off his worst season that who's actually, you know, somewhat healthy for. Though. I mean, obviously, injuries have completely drilled it if he comes into season healthy next year. Where do you think he's drafted in? Would you be willing to showroom. No, I didn't like I was. I was probably way out there on the knell. I don't want him into this year. I went absolutely no part of them. And I obviously justified in that and I don't know what he's out. They ruled them out for the rest of this year with the with the stress reaction in triceps strain. There's there's, let's see how that process. I still want no part of him. Being in, you know, the stress reaction and tip it was elbow now. I mean, I'm by no means a doctor, but I don't like the idea of elbow issues, especially guy who's already had Tommy John surgery, and he's exiting that Tommy John window a little grace period that. We are about. So I I'm super concerned if he drops into like the ten or twelve rounds, which I think he easily could and he is ADP coming into the season was forty forty. Seventh was insanely high by the way. Yes. But I mean if he's dropping into the one, twenty five one thirties I'm gonna have a hard time saying, no, for guy was going to strike out eleven nine. This strike outs there. I'm gonna. I'm gonna run away from it. I'm running away. I don't want let somebody else take the risk. I think there's a better a better shot. One guy that comes to mind just because of similar issues this year, but he hasn't had the problem. You know, add a Fisher surgery is Lance mccullers. When I'm looking at the two of these, I'm still like Darvish has had the surgery. Callers had red flags right now. I am gonna take mccullers I, but I'm not crazy about. I'm not crazy about it. And I, I was big on the colors coming into this year. Pity hard hit me hard, but I, I would still take him over your Darvish. Let me throw a threesome. Would you rather Darvish Darvish Robbie Ray. "Darvish you've, of course heard about the a. rod comments. Well, these take it another level get into that next Spain and fits. We were just talking to Jerry Crasnick about about all the moves at the trade deadline comes. Got a little jump on the deadline by adding Cole hamels. And of course that's slightly offsetting the acquisition of you Darvish that has not yet panned out for the cubs injuries, plaguing his season and just not not good pitching when he is available and Nick, we all have have heard about a rod, making some comments on Sunday night baseball about you Darvish they, they were showing shots of Darvish rehabbing an hanging out in the cubs dugout and Rodriguez kinda said he should be in Mesa. He should be working out a somewhere else. He's a distraction. And when you've got a guy, that's got a big money deal like that, and he's hanging out in the training room and watching video and hanging out in the dugout. He's a distraction. He should instead be in Arizona getting treated, even though it's perfectly fine within his contract to be getting treatment and working in Chicago. Ago, so era a pretty critical of you Darvish and sort of hinting at it being a guy who has lost respect in the clubhouse because of his decisions during this rehab and you Darvish agent coming out and kind of attacking a rod saying, he's not a guy who should be talking about it. He certainly is a guy who knows about losing respect in a clubhouse, right, Nick. But what do you make first of all before we get to Rick Sutcliffe piling on of the kind of interaction between a rotten and use agent, sir. This is what happens in the world of sports when your client is being attacked on a public national level in it. And when you're making a ton of money when you're making a ton of money and you're not living up to that contractor. And the other key part to this is in in this goes back to two last week as well. Tim, Kirk, John, our colleague here at ESPN. He made similar comments on the Waddle and Silvy program on ESPN. One thousand here in Chicago, basically saying that this is becoming more of a distraction within the clubhouse and players while they're not making their feelings public on that, you know, people are starting to look around and go, all right. What are we going to get from this guy? Or are we going to get anything from this guy to begin with? So when you start to hear those rumblings and then a rod. Obviously talked to whomever he spoke to in the cubs clubhouse and and made his feelings public on it as well. When you start to hear that everything blows up to a higher level and that's where we are now in this kind of standoff, between some in the media, you Darvish Darvish his agent in his production or lack thereof on the field. Well, we, we heard the reaction to a rod, not as many reacting to Rick Sutcliffe because his commentary mostly locally here in Chicago. I say here even though I'm in LA right now, but you know what I mean? And let's listen to a little of what Rick Sutcliffe who is a part of the cubs in sort of an ambassador role. Is that right? He's working with them in an ambassador said to Waddle and Silvy on ESPN one thousand. Feel pain in there, but I know that the cubs have done everything they possibly can. They've looked at that in every single way possible. I know that they they had the physical before they signed him. There's just a lot of things that go into that too. Where in my mind right now, the signing of Cole hamels is we're not even counting on Darsch he, you know, he go ahead and he can go home right now. We, we, we know what we've gotta do. We don't count on him for anything over the course of this year. I don't know. Maybe you can come back and and pitch out of the bullpen late in the year. I just don't know any of that. Yeah. So he he kind of, you know, not particularly invested in believing in what Darvish has to offer. I'm just kind of fascinated for Dell because I never liked criticism of guys for injury. You can't prevent that..

"Your right Darvish the first, thing, that, comes to mind is Why are you talking about Decision Mbo the money to this free agent signing when heard an injury. History I, mean let's face it was hurting fourteen missed all of. Fifteen sixteen wow And all of a sudden you Darvish Darvish. Darvish that What do you take any heat I mean I know this Let's get, some, responsibility, here on. Management, Fred look it's valid I we'll see what what he turns out to be. For the full six years I'm not gonna write them off as. A as a bust yet I'm just not gonna do it after two early four months when a guy's, got an. Injury for, me it is I, mean other people Jerko says it's going to be. The worst signing cubs history but if you remember the criticism that, surfaced with THEO in, Boston, everyone always said the. Oh got himself in trouble and I think he'll admit to with free agency and I brought it up there crosstalk I would naturally THEO Epstein with any front office. Guy in, any sport whatsoever But the last three pitchers he's acquired the two free agent pitchers in the trade with container It looks like. He overpaid for Kintana and the two, free agents have not contributed whatsoever any let Jake walk that's not a good look, right now and he didn't pull the. Trigger on for Lander when that could have been like there are some, in, the last year if you. Want to look at some some issues where you would say hey management could have done this they chose. To make a trade for Justin Wilson. And a, backup catcher and Justin Burland. Or was there and. They. Were toying with that idea you. Know they did not do that they did not resign Jake they. Resume, sure like you said though. I'm still I'll take him ten, times out of ten ten yeah that's, not going to change so. Ted's insure of l. teddy you're on ESPN one thousand what's up Here's my question or comment. About Darvish Former pitchers don't win the. Bullpen this pitch with a little Teichmann This bull. Crap about, people rolling in his arm, in pain, doesn't mean anything I mean if you think about it They, go out there they try Maybe a little tight maybe the guys being just, a, little honest in his, assessment hey my arm with, tired but the next day are but a lot of former fishers all the way from height go. Up at trying the door arms I don't know. Why guys getting criticized. For that Ted they've said to him You're not it's not like tired or what Another synonym. For tired fatigued, it's, not fatigued, it's pain and, he said yes extreme pain like I mean I know there's, an interpreter there and you're not speaking Japanese but. When so. You're saying don't trust his words I'm saying that. He opened in on it. And when he. Goes out. There and said, hey, for the, first ten is, it was a little Lord hurt you didn't say that was, a little sore daddy said there was extreme pain You know if it's extreme pain. Then I go back to what In. The interview why the hell he. Picked. In, the next fifteen, correct that's, why, there's so much confusion yeah yeah that's why. I I mean listen I think I thanks regardless of the sports if you are testing a body part that is questionable and you, feel paying the? First, thing that you do normally shut it down shut it down yeah and I'm just a little surprised that, when he made the that revelation that after the first. Ten pitches I felt significant pain that they allowed him. To continue and then he said it was relieved, by, changing, mechanics, you, want, to, continue, to, weigh. "Top concern and it is their their weakness and has been all season long lester incredible darvish who came in with a sort of you know this one number one pedigree hasn't really been even available let alone affective and you know big question marks on the command so big on say you know getting making a move and bringing it sort of not necessarily the because that's highly expensive somewhat into battle back and sort of give that option you might need just in case something goes off the rails and you can sort of plug it in but i feel upstate dubers interviews of late look i'm just motivating guys basically to pitch so capability because it would hendrick out his best out his best with lesser at their best that's a that's a great rotation and so they have the talent within it's just a matter they believe the season is is what it is and after or whether these guys can get on track talk about those three specifically doug you darvish karl hendricks in cantata where are your confidence confidence level in each in being at their best buy tober well by the least confidence i've is and it's not because of his talent or anything along those lines it's much more geared towards the health right but know the setbacks and just sort of trying to get back because you just don't know how much time is going to need they talk about his rehab being something that's starting over in some respects you don't know what is going to have to go to that next year you're talking about postseason and so those are just big question marks right so you know lester obviously has been fantastic i you know hendricks amazing against the giants and i thought he really put together what you've seen i have not you know the home run is bidding him all season long and he's able to get the movement even within the zone that's a critical thing that consider because hendrix's a guy that doesn't necessarily have to be perfect velocity would say that but movement is so good you have a lot of difficulty of the hitter squaring up even when he's in this home and that's what he's really out as best you can work in zone and and still induced we contact until i liked that step he's taken as you mentioned can you know when he's aggressive with that fastball empowering ladies and just feel us with it that's that's what he's lights out so we're seeing that right now and by the way the cubs are like a game out of having the best record in the national league you know there's a lot of things to build on here and i think the rotation is that that piece that could propel them to that you know the next level they're trying to get to offensively they're at the top of most testicle categories in the national league and they've done it without anthony rizzo doug what from your perspective what is wrong with with reserve right now i mean when i think of rizzo well there's three three numbers that i can speak to actually it's really what number to eleven and just looking into it at their resolute setting to eleven against lefties to eleven on the road sitting to eleven when he's ahead in the count all right i think that's the one that i have to underline the sharpest top right now when he's actually in the driver's seat that that may change you know secondhalf keep in hit one forty nine in april okay so he's still ahead of the game here is just how to over fifteen in the last few days the little struggles of late but what he's off on the right on top of the plate and the pitcher's that are a little bit olivetti styling authories popping up he's not quite getting that top hand to it and and so he gets into trouble but i liked the adjustments you for example with the cubs were in la he kinda had that shorter swing and he threw the.

"Burner account this is a new article out today it says cubs teammate knows who knows you darvish best says the pitcher believes fans hate him big cats you hate you darvish darvish i'm frustrated with darvish in and he it's not all you darvish i think it's unfair to put it all on your darvish i think a lot of the frustration at least from my perspective comes from the fact that jake arrieta is still doing jake arrieta philadelphia and he's got a two point one three and when we get a little bit of the background that the cubs offered him something and maybe not enough and if they had maybe done another year a couple more million it could have been jake arrieta darvish that's where my frustration really kicks in and so i think you darvish gets a little bit of a bad rap for that but i did see the article i think we gotta start being really nice darvish online kristian has really hurt him in the article and christian as we've had on once he's a great speaker but there's a guy who just came up from the minors he hasn't been around the team much now he does know you from taxes but for him to say hey i think that he thinks chicago hates him for going on the dl a couple of times i try tried to portray that to him listen they're going to love you when we get back tober and we're doing things we all want you to do your the main reason we're doing we're riding you all the way through it so don't worry about them getting mad at you on twitter worrying about when we get to september and october like he's like disclosing a lot there where he saying that you darvish reads everything on twitter and then he thinks chicago hates him which creates a.

"Might see him go back into the freeagent market for reliever now ray holland's still out there but after what way davis cup i don't i don't think uh holland's pressure's gonna be would two appetizing to them i so i think we're all assuming gordon at this point brandon moral would be the guy it would be first step to be the closure for the cubs yum an do you believe that come opening day that will be occasionally you think that the theo and in general and go out there and bring in another guy to be the closure i think there are so many bosnia right now for the cubs but also for the market at large create a market and craig market at large there's so many teams that still have things left to accomplish before spring training with just over a month ago that there there are a number of different directions the domino's could fall so if they fall in that direction absolutely they'll jump on it right now i think they're prepared to go to spring training with the the ninth inning hubbard in house right now and you know getting back to if area to the cardinals that could essentially be a trade lamps lynn is one of the most sought after free agents you know we talked about outs cobb is there like anybody else you think the cubs have on their radar starting pitcher that they really like to get in here if arietta goes and signed with another club well those are the guy and left lanes lot of teams fall back right now it seems he being not getting the same buzz that cobb darvish in in area or in particular carbon darvish um but he said he'd out there the he's he's the other guy and in those top four uh and yeah he he could well be in play he's also going to be another guy that i that i think is gonna see uh is gonna see where the market set darvish maybe darvish or cobb might be the first sign um i would if i'm i'm betting on a bit darvish is the.

"In two walks is era was point eight eight so and and clinton kershaw in game five have the world series in his hands with a four run lead and couldn't hold onto it so i understand kershaw is historically great but maybe he felt given the ball the darvish last night the darvish was going to get him five or six if spectacular innings and then he could make decisions from there and was less confident that kershaw would especially considering teachers pitched two days ago does that make no sense that god make but i will tell you after watching garvee she game three and they're terrific story done by yellen hernandez going into yesterday start uh about darvish in how he can't speak board game three and how team eighth hr sorta propping them off and darvish talked about that whole slick paul theory which apparently only really applied to the struggle in this series than darvish thought about how he was glad that he had the answer for why he struggled that would have concern me and it really comes down to this going in game 7 and eliminating game at game to win the world theory if here gave robert if you're the guy who have most competent in in your heart clayton kershaw arguably the greatest painter of all time or you darvish and play it if quicker shows available go with them why that's fair enough and look i certainly not the only person saying that i'm getting a ton of twitter reaction saying that as well something else and i'm sure you're getting the two hours of sleep that you manage last night while this happened but we opened our show this morning at order perez was on our set and it was magnificent insight and he said that during the game last night he he picked up on away the darvish was tipping is pitches and his give it to you very briefly he said that when darvish was throwing his fastball the hand was totally still in the glove before he went into his motion and they is throwing this lighter the hand was just figured in a little bit obviously getting his fingers in the appropriate position that he picked up on that during the game last night and he did a tape ondemand sports center last night which booger and i did get a chance to see but.

"He gave the ball at a u darvish or is it kershaw can't pitch in the post season because i did not the dave roberts made his decision based on this but if i'm listening to all this i'm going okay kershaw can't pitch in the postseason noone said that about yu darvish every pitch poorly earlier in the series no one went after him for how he pitch earlier in the in in game three so he went with the the more well rested guy who doesn't carry with them the narrative of not being good in the postseason oh you you really can't have it both ways so he went with darvish darvish was kind of nickel and died the death early than they gave up a big durham bombed at george spranger and darvish is a night and possibly his time with the la dodgers is is over and dave roberts talked after the game and he really was at a loss for words for why darvish pitched the way he did gis unexpected even today that the the velocity i thought he was right there i thought he's gonna really throw the baseball well um and i think he was three and a third may be um in this series and just very unfortunate and i i know he wanted to baseball i know he was prepared i just can't explain the results i really can yeah i mean he's at a loss for words and i know you'll hear people that will say they saw this come and i think that's that's really really unfair yu darvish was a big part of their success once they traded form especially in the post season he won a game in the national league division series against the arizona he won a game in the national league championship series in chicago against the cubs there is a lotta managers that would like to have him to give the ball to in a series deciding game and roberts talked afterwards about how he felt how he felt good given the body you darvish starting game seven you has been one of our top three starters all year hours since we acquired m and um be at a bad one in houston but to think that we would start alex onshore or something he's never done you don't know what you're going to get in either one of those two guys in.

"One more time to do shop plays who don't let the astros be the first team in texas to win an f in world syrians exactly right man that's all we were hoping was the you darvish would do it and he let us down again so he's going to leave the game in his era for the world series will finish up at twenty one point six the big that's big number given for a pitching for pitching era it should be like it should be too it should be less than two and it's not it's it's really bad in like hasn't the dodgers closer lead janssen thrown more innings in his last two appearances than you darvish i'm pretty sure that's accurate are you darvish in two starts in the world series has made it three and a third what kind of contract is he can again because people were like oh he might get thirty million will that stupid now even if he gets twenty million for like a good but not great pitcher he reminds me a lot of like dez bryant where people folk qassam the name and how good he was like thirteen and fourteen and projected in the two thousand seventeen you're like that's not the guy anymore he could probably do very well in the city of houston though like he could fraud a healthy part of the parade or may not play for the team but they'll bring a man and be like yeah you're we love you hear are you darvish you darvish joins art dietmar in 1960 not a name as the only pitchers in the history of the world series to have more than one star of less than two innings you darvish in art dietmar all right so we another part of the segment was going be about legacy and king clayton kershaw kinda correct because some of the shine is come off a his legacy after how crappy he was in game five even though he was awesome in game one and so i was gonna ask could he rebuilt some vis legacy tonight now the question becomes will he even get an opportunity he'll he'll get an chance but it won't they won't be relying on him for that for the big stuff you know he'll he'll get a chance but it won't be for for big time cash while the word was like that gambler.

"On sports radio a weei oh my god man why eight game big it wise for kelly air fare and not yet starter uh the dodger pitcher they came out and pitched a great game which wide angle great game so i wanna ask you now is why are they going to pitch your darvish tomorrow night and why can't they pitch kershaw to start out and what you kershaw have a starter for tomorrow uh you know i have imagined starter to start getting seven 'cause i would want when win the cherry with kershaw starting tomorrow but they want you darvish and i'm scary about having yu darvish you know i anna uh tomorrow because you know vat yum astro she has too much batters in their lineup that can explode on it is that he throw you drive is throw the that's why i'm scared that you'll throw up pitch and they can x board on it like it chapter pitch like you um oh the dog too they or some on their other warren i forget other third baseman affect basement will head a bomber out i mean they're they're explosive blair right me that's the point there they're so explosive so what do you do i mean this is the situation you're in though in a game seven so i don't really think it matters who starts the game as much his who finishes the game and that so cliche but i think lake we've seen throughout these playoffs you're going to see guys pitched 234 ratings and then they'll go on to the next guy eight eu empty it out tomorrow so again if the starter tomorrow gets in any sort of trouble they're not gonna sit there and wait for him to get right there's going to move onto the next guy because again another baseball cliche you know there is no tomorrow it's exciting and and you know this is what two years in a row you get a game seven.

"So this date you darvish was the biggest name he's been who was the biggest ticket it to come over here from japan this is what this guy's been bred four and now we're gonna see because today the houston astros their deadline acquisition had the stark had the opportunity to shut it down tomorrow you darvish deadline acquisition for the for the dodgers has a chance to shut down so tomorrow is when we see who really was the biggest acquisition at the trade deadline again because if darvish goes out there and this includes you know why very lender even if if darvish lazy egg tomorrow i still think that ver lander then becomes the biggest acquisition because of what he meant to this team during the playoffs but as of right now darvish says the chance to change their narrative and again if there's anybody that's made for the big big moment it's darwish the colors and starting gained seven by the way and it's something that you and i disagree with all three in the bulk because we talk about this for we came on the air i think morton has gone out there and shown that he he started in because the show need come out of the bolton that being said are morton coming out there i mccall is going on regular rest as any in game 7 yeah so then no piggyback him with morton and they'll see how much they can get out there i just i i don't know i'm not on guys can give way i'm not on that though i'm just not on i'm not on mccotter going because again.

"And worse than that he's walked two guys a lot but this is yu darvish you darvish is up pitcher who wasn't even trying to swing did did you guys catch that he was attempting to want now keep in mind bases loaded there are two out what is it bought do unless it's the most perfectly placed bought in the history of baseball the bought does nothing the budget does absolutely nothing except for the third out unless it happens to be a suicide squeeze where they're sending the runners of the rudder crosses the play before he gets thrown out but more than likely all it is is the third out but that's should indicate to you that was not a snowball's chance in hell that you darvish was going to get a hit he never come up with the bases loaded before except that dave roberts decided not to pinchhit for him he obviously was pitching really well he initially sent a pinchhitter into the ondeck circle and so if all over twitter even the announcers matching on tv oh there's a pinch hitter for you darvish and i think it was going to be curtis granderson i think don't quote me on that but i think that's who they were going to set up to the plate in place of you darvish again bases loaded two out and instead against carl edwards dave roberts leaves his pitcher who has a very chance of even putting the ball in play he leaves yu darvish to bat with the bases loaded edwards is really been tough on left hand hitters so it's still get a base hit it's not a jimmy it'll and to feel that i could extend you for more than an inning just felt that the value of continue to get out and to be able to deploy the bullpen later in the game or destroyed the result more upside for me he just easily makes you darvish the sacrificial lamb is like man just just go up there we feel like our bullpen can protect the lead but we want you to give us a few more out so we finns yu darvish up there to burnt with two outs i mean it wasn't as though him squaring to button was.
