"I've been around the league since 96. And so it's 26 years now. By doing some great basketball minds. And so coming into this and having worked for a guy who was under pop for 20 years before he got his first shot. Being with him, that guy being Mike Boone knows that being with him since this was their head coach up until now from Atlanta to Milwaukee and the sit back and watch how he constructed his staff. Quin Snyder is a great great friend of mine. We talked very, very often, multiple times per month. And you see how he put together his staff and Taylor Jenkins and so on and so forth, all these guys that I'm close with within the business is no doubt that what I laid out in the list of candidates but still different slots on my staff that they were made them more able to trust me in that decision making process. And we had some great coaches, young coaches that we kept on board, Phil handy, Quinn Crawford, and Jason posterior and a video coordinator drew. I mean, we have some great young talent already in the foe. It didn't work out for Frank. I have utmost respect for Frank Vogel. He did a great job and selecting some of these coaches that are still here with me today. So yes, so an answer, yes. Okay. And what about the word has always been about too many chefs in the kitchen, certainly in meetings, coaches meetings prior to games? Do you get to decide who from the front Lakers front office gets to be in those as well? Darwin here. I'm big on communication. So yeah, our coaches, we're going to lock in my staff and I lock in and do what we need to do. But at the same time, if anything, if there's any questions about what we're about to do or any questions about what we did in practice or shoot around what happened in the game, my door is always open and those situations I prefer to have one on one as opposed to having something to be taken out of context by somebody just listening to a brainstorming session with my staff. "But if only because it's going to make Russell Westbrook feel better. If you want to keep rust bought in saying, hey, you can talk about him sacrificing and all that. But having sacrificed by burning his energy on defense, like what Darwin have said, that's where he wants him expending his energy or not having the ball in his hands on offense. Get a bought in there. Don't really push it by saying and we're taking your starting job because that will be a slight to him. He won't be happy with that. And that is not what you want. You want him more brought in. And I think you can accomplish the same goals. We talked about this a lot last season by tailoring your rotation in the correct way. You can accomplish the same goal that you would be striving for by bringing him off the bench. But like you said, you bring him in for the first few minutes of the first quarter. Maybe you give him 5 minutes or whatever with the quote unquote starters. And then you stop them out, and then from there, you're running in primarily with the bench unit, so you're accomplishing the same thing just without rocking the boat. And let's face it, if he's coming off the bench, that's going to become a question. You're going to have to answer in the media every single day. And he and Russ was going to get asked every single day. I just think you can sidestep the whole situation and still get the same result if you stagger your rotation correctly, which I think ultimately is probably what we will see darvin ham do. This season, if Russell Westbrook's on the team. No, I agree. And I think that's the right way to go. And I trust darvin to make the right decision. Honestly. And then he's just bringing that energy, I think that it could work with him. That being said, I did read something today that said the Lakers were looking into the young bull in Cleveland. And I think Cleveland may be into someone like Westbrook, but Han said he wants to do a four out one in. And I think if Russ is just a slasher, getting the board doing all those things. I.

"We are back. Let's finish some things out with a little bit of chat about the whole situation that the Lakers are getting into with Anthony Davis. Gotcha. Do we think that AD can be the kind of player that darvin ham needs him to be? He basically said he's kind of like Giannis, right? I mean, he made that comparison. What are we thinking about Anthony Davis? Can he really get to the level that the darpa ham needs him at? I think he can get to that level, but again with Anthony Davis, it's all starts about his body. And being healthy and being there and putting in the work that it takes to consistency consistently play over 82 game season. I mean, we've talked about Anthony Davis at his peak. We always talk about top 5 player in the league easily one of the top 5 guys you're going to want to have. So clearly he can get to that level. I think it just all starts with his body, his nutrition, getting back onto that. Establishing if he's going to play the 5 of the four. I think that's really big. Establishing who he's going to be guarding, you know, are we going to bring in a true center like I believe we should do for that person to bang with the bigger Biggs and Anthony Davis, you know, handle some more of the stretch forwards or the stretch 5s. All those things count. But I think he can be that player. We've seen it. It's just about now it's time for him to put the work in. And I'm hoping I'm just, again, I'm doing a lot of hoping for the Lakers. I understand, but again, it's very possible. We've seen them do it. We've seen him be able to dominate. So I think he can be that player. And I think, you know, again, when a new coach comes in, nothing against frames, vocal, but it's a fresh start, a breath of fresh air. It's time to, you know, bring in out with the old in with the new, hopefully that revitalizes Anthony Davis, and he realizes how important he is to the team. And how much we do need them. Like, yes, we have LeBron James. We have Russell Westbrook. But Anthony Davis is a top 5 talent and the things he's able to do when he's at the top of his game, make him arguably one of the best players in the game. So I think it's very possible. It just starts with his body, of course, and getting healthy. So hopefully, you know, this year he's putting in that work this summer. He's out there, you know, with Braun. If I was anything Davis, I'm following Braun around every day, I'm doing whatever he's doing to make sure my body's in the best shape it could be and so that I can play these minutes..

"He had tons of success last season with the Lakers. So what do you think Christian wood bringing him into a team like this with darvin ham is the coach LeBron AD? Are you worried about locker room issues? I'm not worried about it at all because I think sometimes a change of scenery does great. Sometimes going from a team like the Houston Rockets who's clearly in a rebuild mode trying to build their way back up full of young players and then going to a team like a Lakers who as we hope should be competing for a championship that sometimes that's all it takes, you know, to get a guy on the right path, being around a LeBron James, being around Anthony Davis, Russell Westbrook, a darvin ham, you know, a rasheed Wallace, you know, guys with stature. Guys with, you know, some forgetting the word right now. Guys, you know, with some stature in the league, you know, you know, respect around the league. Sometimes that's all it takes. So especially a guy like Christian wood, who's in the prime of his career, I'm sure who wants to win now, you know, go somewhere where he can be an important piece where I think he would be important with us too. Obviously not the one, two or three options, but he would be a very important piece of a stretch big, you know, a guy, especially with a guy like AD who were not sure if he's going to make it through the season at the time. He would be very important. So I'm not too worried about locker room issues. I think what we saw with darvin ham today, how he plans to again collaborate, communicate with all the players that we have this year. I'm not really too worried about chemistry wise as far as locker room issues. It's all about the on court part. So not work. And then moving, I'm in agreement with you with that. Being infuriated that you might lose THT and none because of Russ. That's me. That's me just saying for value perspective. I don't know if the Lakers shared that opinion, but I mean, they're not a great fit together. So if you do wind up keeping rust, which it's possible that the costume moving rust is just so high because teams around the NBA see the Lakers is desperate. They're going to try to take advantage of that. They're going to try to fleece the Lakers in a trade..

"Again, no matter what. No matter what he does this season, he's not getting that contract. But what is next summer going to look like for Russ if this season doesn't go well? He's actually got a lot riding on this season and his ability to show that he can adjust and adapt. I thought it would take this contract being up and the reality of free agency to hit him for him to truly adjust. I'm hoping that that's not the case and that he's already looking ahead and this season. We're going to see a more adaptable Russell Westbrook and maybe him being there at the presser tonight or this afternoon was a step towards that. That's my optimist. That's my optimistic side of it anyway. Well, I'm just hoping honestly that, you know, especially when it kept talking about how defense falling asleep on defense. You know, that's just focused, man. In my opinion, I'm just hoping that darvin ham is able to reel. If you can cut down just giving teams easy layup, you know, you'll give yourself so much more of a chance towards the end of the game, especially if you're turning the ball over. So just focus, getting these guys focused again, these guys honed in on the defensive end. But also that goes into also roster construction, still got to bring in some more guys who can defend to help Russell Westbrook. We're not saying that Russell Westbrook is going to be this lockdown perimeter defender, but when you got 5 guys on a string as, you know, they like to say in basketball, your team is going to be so much better. Defensively, especially when you have Anthony Davis who coach ham, you know, mentions going to be the foundation of the defense. So I'm just hoping he can get him focused. And I think that'll do wonders for our defense. And then everything else is just icing on top. "A coach that was a former player. There was always talks about, you know, whether Westbrook really felt comfortable with coach Vogel and whether he really respected him. So I just figured that, you know, another former player getting in there being in that hair culture position Westbrook respect more. He'll respect someone who's grinded like a darvin here and has done over the years. So I think it's a big step to be able to control your superstore. Not control them, but to be able to coach him. At the end of the day, the coach has got to be able to coach and that starts with the top players all the way down to 15. So it was definitely great to hear that. Yeah. Yeah, absolutely. We've got a super chat coming in here from Joel Hernandez says which players do you envision in ham's offense. So darvin ham talked about running a four out one in offense. And right off the bat, that raised my eyebrows a little bit because I thought, okay, and a starting 5 with Russell Westbrook and Anthony Davis, and this is assuming you don't have another traditional big on the floor. Like a Dwight Howard Anthony Davis has shot better over previous seasons, but last season was not good. Russell weissberg, of course, not known as a three point shooter. He's a guy that teams will leave out there. So what are you looking to? If he's going to run that four out one in offense, what are you looking to add to this roster if you're rob blinka in order to make that work to the best of your abilities given the players of the Lakers already have in place? Well, I think we've talked about it a bunch in time. Obviously shooting. If you're running four out one in, you're going to need shooting because you want that perfect spacing around the floor to open up those driveways. And the only way you're going to have that is if you have shooting on the court. But like we've also said, and like darvin mentioned today, it's going to start defensively. So you're going to have to bring in guys who can force turnovers, get us out and transition things of that nature and who can shoot at least enough for the defense to have to respect those guys out there. But it all starts on the defensive end, like you said. But as far as like which guys could fit in that system, you know, we've talked about the auto porters of the world. Austin Reeves is a great off ball mover can move offscreen, things of that nature. We've talked about an AD being the one in being at the higher post being able to make passes, AD is a little bit of an underrated passer, you know, I'm not sure if you guys remember even back to his days with boogie cousins, you know, the big, the big alley oops. So there's different players can fit into this type of system. It's all about how much they're going to buy in. Now, obviously, you're going to have to be able to shoot the ball at least decently to be in this Ford to really be effective at its highest peak because again, the more shooters you have on the floor, the more space, the more is that opens up drive lanes..

"On his Instagram story. What do we make of that? I saw a varied response. There was some Lakers fans who thought, why is Russ tweeting out or not tweeting out? But putting on Instagram, putting out on social media, the Lakers post about darvin Hamm, what's Russ doing? He's not going to be a Laker next year. Nobody wants him to be a Laker next year. Why would he do this? And people were upset about that. There were others who said, well, of course, he's going to put that out. There would be more of a story. If he didn't do that, what are your thoughts on Russ sharing that on social media? Yeah, I kind of overreacted at first. I have sent to our group Texas like, oh wow, oh no, please know. But then I think Daniel said something too. And I was like, you know what? Yeah, if he doesn't say anything, or if he doesn't post anything or whatever, that's more of a story than him just posting it, especially because he left it blank. He just posted the picture at the Lakers social media page put out and he just posted down the story. No word, no wording, anything. So since he just put that there, I think I initially looked into it too much. I think, again, like you were just saying, Trevor, if he did it, say anything, or if he didn't post it at all, that's more of a story than him just posting it and just just the picture of darvin ham. If no matter what he did, any response or no response at all, it's something, right? Like if he says nothing about it, it's, oh my gosh, Russ is a malcontent and how could he not even address this and that, right? Like LeBron took to Twitter right when the tweet came out and said, you know, I was congratulating him but excited. All that. If Russ just doesn't say anything, then people say, well, why? And Ross said anything. If Russ celebrates the darvin hymn gets hired and he's super excited and he puts out something similar to what LeBron did, people will be upset and say, well, is this a sign that Russ has state? We don't want that. We don't want that. And then if he does what he did, what he actually did in terms of just the understated just kind of copied the Lakers picture of darvin ham and put that out there. People would say, well, you know, he's not really saying anything here..

"We'll see how it plays out during the course of the season, but the early impression of the Lakers. I think is a good initial sign that darvin Hamm could wind up being a pretty solid offensive guy. Matt, the optimist, is there anybody that you can think of, you would like to see as an assistant. I mean, to me, it just screams Terry starts, but I don't know if he's willing to do that. It sounds like he's probably not. Yeah, I think obviously starts with the optimal option, but he, I like everyone has said at this point is not a does not seem very interested in that role. No, I actually think I got a different route. I feel like I don't have any specific names off the top of my head, but I think poaching people off winning teams is always a good recipe for success. So I feel like taking someone off of the Phoenix Suns bench, the Miami Heat bench. I think would be a decent option, even someone off the warriors. Just a lot of these teams that run a lot of motion concepts on and off ball. I think that'd be cool. Again, these are probably going to be people that not a lot of fans are really familiar with, but I think taking a shot on someone who has been in those programs or organizations for a while that can bring some of those concepts over the Lakers. I think that'd be pretty ideal. So and I think we've talked about this before, but I think giving people shots to prove themselves or to step up in larger roles is a good recipe. For the Lakers organization to kind of get away from the retread market. So if they did something like that, I'd be pretty on board for it. I know it's a little scary, considering we don't really have the data or historical performance to go off of. But I would like to see them again continue to branch out and hire from outside the organization. Really quickly, if Marvin could somehow bring Charles Lee from Milwaukee with them, that'd be awesome. That was actually an end I thought of Milwaukee's boy in the park with two very important assistants, but if they are, I'm all for it. Yeah. Let me throw a name out there that might be kind of controversial here. He may wind up getting the hornets job. But if we're talking about offense, I mean, Mike D'antoni just did this for Steve. I'm just saying that. Mike D'antoni was a Lakers coach, no defense whatsoever, but if darvin him is the defense guy, might the Antony offensively has changed what the NBA is..

You know, if you checked out Forbes magazine today, LeBron's an official billionaire. And he's making his money in media, big time. He's not going anywhere. So who do, you know, because they're going to have to talk to him, darvin ham is going to talk to him. Who can we bring to how who can we get on the Lakers if we're going to go big time that LeBron first of all is going to sign off on, even though it's like, hey, you signed off on Russ instead of instead of demar Derozan. So I have to check him as well. Who are we? Who is worth that pick? And I'm not even saying, you know, and I'm not telling you to go lightly on that. It has to be somebody who were just everybody sitting around going, okay? This could possibly work. Really quickly. LeBron wanted to Marta Rosen, but you would have hard capped yourself, which is why the demar Derozan thing did not happen. You would have heard captain roster. He would have been stuck with like 6 players. Well, that's definitely part of part of the decision making process in terms of not going with the Rosen. But again, if you could figure out a way to make that work, that's certainly would have been would have been preferable, but again, there were some drawbacks to demar Derozan that we talked about a ton last off season. "We are back. I got a few comments here. We need to get into. I've been Z said, I think we should save our cap space for the 2023 off season. That class is stacked. Thoughts on that. Well, you're not going to have much cap space if LeBron signs an extension. That's right now the Lakers have a ton of cap space, but that's assuming that LeBron doesn't sign the extension. It besides the extension, that's eats into a pretty decent chunk of it. But I do think it's a consideration. The problem though is, like, let's say that they're going to go, you're essentially punting on this season if you decide you're not going to touch that 2023 cap space. You're just saying, you know what? We're not going to get the pieces we need to. We're not going to take on any long-term salaries, which maybe that's the correct decision. Maybe it is, but that will also be a difficult conversation to have with LeBron James. Yeah, and I'm sure how you sell LeBron signing the extension if you're saying, let's punt this season. And yes, AG one does help with my jumper. I don't know about Trevor's, but it helps so much. I don't have much of a jumper these days, but I do, I've had AG one this morning. I do legitimately drink it. Every single day. Reginald Thomas, shout out to Sean, who picked darvin ham from the start, shout out to the Lakers too. Two, they're a coach job, stop handcuffing the head coach and picking his staff, then blaming him for the results. I agree. It seems like that's exactly what the Lakers are going to do. They are not going to pick his staff for him. I do like that the word is already out there that, hey, he's going to bring in a, he's going to bring in guys who have previous head coaching experience to be his assistant coaches. I think that's fantastic. But the Lakers are going to let him pick them. And that's great. And they're also not going to be sitting in Kurt rambis is going to be sitting in on his coaches meetings. Excellent. That coaches need to have that. They need to have that autonomy. They need to not feel like somebody's looking over their shoulder all the time. And I think it's important. It's important not just for not just for darvin ham, but for the perception of the Lakers around the NBA, because this is industry standard that coaches have of the ability, the flexibility to do those things. And so for the Lakers to not give their coach that that respect was seen as pretty backwards. So for a number of reasons, I think this is the correct way to go about things with darpa name. Two quick things. One, I don't know who the heck David ham is, what the chap please notify me, who David ham is. Secondly, I want to make this clear and I've been saying this for a while as well with darvin ham. Darvin, by the way, chap. If the Lakers start off, let's just say 5 and 8 next season, right? They solve in the first 13 games to go 5 and 8. Please, I am begging you please. Please, please let him coach and do not just beg for darvin hands to be fired..

From day one from day one before Frank Vogel was let go when we first started talking about who should be the next Lakers head coach Sean Davis had one name and that name was darvin ham. Just peek behind the curtain when the darvin ham news happened I was out at dinner with my family and I legit spit my drink out in celebration. When darvin got hired and then my phone was blowing up, people telling me, hey, Sean, yeah, you've been calling it, but yeah, so excited that breakdown that I just did the other day. I think it got published yesterday was probably my favorite breakdown I've done. Not just because we hired darvin, of course, but because I got to do some interesting things with that breakdown. So you guys go check that out. That was a lot of fun. Yeah, yeah, that was definitely a good one getting into the box offense and things like that and how that could potentially translate for the Lakers. "I've got a lot of people that are commenting on these potential hires. Look, here's the thing. I've got people saying, our Jackson should be getting an interview, all these other people. Look, and I know a lot of people think different ways about Mark Jackson, but yes, give them an interview. You leave no stone unturned. Whether it's whether you see Marc Jackson as a real candidate or not, depending on how much credit you give him for the warriors teams or was that Steve Kerr coming in. Look, you give him an interview. Again, if you are the Lakers, you cast a wide net and I'm expecting, look, we're just hearing. Just hear it. Darvin ham's name pops up, right? We've heard quin Snyder. We've heard Nick nurse. There have been a few other names that have been connected. Steve Clifford. We've heard Mike Brown, but I think we're going to hear a lot more names connected to the Lakers. This is not going to be solved overnight. It's not like tomorrow, watch now it'll probably happen. It's not like tomorrow. They're going to pop up and announce who their new head coaches. So I think this is going to be a long process. There's going to be a lot of people that are mentioned in connection to this job. In number one, because it's the Lakers, but number two, because I think that it's a good thing. If they leave no stone unturned, you interview a lot of people and you have to consider all options because the most important thing this off season is that regardless of what you do, you get it right. You have to bat a thousand this off season. I've said it a bunch of times, and that includes the coaching higher decision. In addition to the personnel moves, you have to get this right. Where does Mark Jackson rank for you amongst potential Lakers hires? Assuming Nick nurse is out of the picture. Assuming that we're with Mark Jackson right for you. I mean, it depends is dock in there. All these other coaches that were kind of waiting to see if they ultimately get let go. He's on my short list of guys that I'm interested in talking to. Is he number one on that list? No, I think there was enough smoke behind problems within the warriors organization when Mark Jackson was there that you got to be a little bit concerned about that. Now LeBron, there have been some rumors that he might be, you know, kind of pushing for Marc Jackson. Okay, maybe that gives it a little bit more credibility there. I'm not dismissing it out of hand. I'm not just saying no, this just no way it's not happening. I do question why, if he's been going after head coaching jobs, why would he have been passed upon so many times already? That leads you to wonder if there's something else there. But again, if I'm the Lakers, I'm not just dismissing anybody really. I'd like to bring them in, give them an interview and see what's there and find out. What would he do with this team and move forward from there? And again, get that kind of input. I think whoever the Lakers hire, I'm going to try to give them the benefit of the doubt. Obviously I've got my favorites, but I think I want to try to give them the benefit of the doubt.

"Defensive coach and they gave me a bunch of dudes are 33 and up who can't guard worth anything. Yep, I want that job. Why would he want that? So I do think it's more. I'm sure the Lakers want them. I think Quinn's a good head coach, but like you mentioned, does Quinn want the Lakers job, especially seeing how they handled the Frank Vogel firing. And he could always go back to Utah like you mentioned. It's more his decision at this point. And then the rumors about San Antonio, Greg Popovich has been retired officially yet, but that's on the table. It pops as I'll go one more year. Quinn, he could just take a year off if he really wanted to. So obviously the Lakers want Quinn. I think that would be a smart move. And I think it's like a coach, but like I mentioned, why would Quinn honestly after how they handled the Frank Vogel situation want the Lakers job? And I think it's different than Darwin, 'cause darvin ham hasn't had, he's not a head coach yet. He's never been a head coach. So for him, this is shiny new toy. I could be the Lakers head coach. Instead of being an assistant. So I think it's different. I agree with you that it's two different things. If you're looking at the Lakers situation, though, from the perspective of a head coach or I'm sorry, I'm an assistant coach, somebody who doesn't have a head coaching job in the league right now. We know that jazz want to keep quin Snyder. If he wants to be a head coach in the NBA next season, he's going to be a head coach in the NBA next season. The question is, which team does he want to coach for? The same is not true of darvin ham. If he wants to be a head coach, there's only a few possibilities. That's Sacramento, Charlotte, and the Lakers. Maybe the jazz of Quinn Snyder decides he's going to leave. That's it. Those are your options..
