"High fifty five right now it'll hear it's forty five midway Forty-five Palatine Forty-six and the lakefront forty seven degrees. I'm Steve Bertrand and the WGN newsroom, these are the stories that matter on seven twenty WGN. Just really quickly before we continue with the show, another heartfelt. Thank you to Darrell Hammond gist. Is a master at doing impressions, just so it's so impressive to watch him. Effortlessly go from one to another to another. I'm I'm amazed. He's really good. He's really good. And he did a great Trump. Oh, yeah. Big time. We were instructed to to maybe not bring up the Donald Trump situation for people that don't know over at Saturday Night Live Darrell Hammond for years did a dead on impression of Donald Trump. This is pre President Trump. Of course, this is when he was just a man and the host of the apprentice, and then they decided to recast the role and it went to a couple of different guys Tarum Taryn kill them. Did it for a while forgot about that? But then they decided when when Donald Trump was obviously a front runner on the Republican side. And we're going to be a major news story to kind of stunt cast it a little bit and go with Alec Baldwin 'cause that's big name power to have as part of the show every week. And that of course, didn't sit well with Daryl at all because he was doing an incredible impression and thought he would just automatically be given the job if it wasn't going to remain Taryn Kilims to have and. Yeah. So that that's a very sore spot. And I get that. I'm sure that's. Fortune magazine has an article about it. Donald Trump wants Darrell Hammond to portray him again. So that's probably. Under why what would be for him? Because if you think back when Darryl was doing Donald Trump. There wasn't as much animosity. Because there wasn't as much at stake. Now Alec Baldwin is taking hit after hit after hit. And I believe Donald Trump would think Darryl would be nicer to him. Well, his impression of Donald Trump wasn't as mean-spirited, but it was a different time to it was a very different time there. Yeah. Everything wasn't. He wasn't in the office. He was hosting the apprentice, so. But but I mean, he did it the first time I saw him. Do the Donald Trump impression was just went Donald Trump was just a very rich. You know? Financial guy magnate, and he nailed it right out of the box. So you could understand his being upset that they wouldn't have enough confidence in him to play it every week. But I understand I said ELS point of view to while we get more attention. If we bring in Alec Baldwin name. So. Fortune magazine, you can just Google it Darrell Hammond in four ten and he had some issues some problems that he went through was devastated when he lost that role from my understanding, he's still the announcer. I'm not sure I know he has been recently. But like this week he's obviously he's here. So he can't be in New York to announce it, so yeah. Because somebody wanted to know who's going to announce SNL tomorrow of Darryl is here at zanies. And then someone wants know do Bill and Wendy share one quip toothbrush. Yeah. They always get it Monday Wednesday Friday, you get it. You must have the weekends. That's when I brush, so thank you inquisitive listener, we appreciate that. Okay. Last night was the night. We've talked about this already on the show every year for the past eight years Jimmy Kimmel after Halloween does a bit where parents have to explain to their children on Halloween after the kids have gone out and looked forward to Halloween for a year, and if put their costumes on and gone door to door and collected a bag or a pumpkin full of candy the children, then go to sleep. And Jimmy Kimmel has instructed parents to make a video of him. To their kids parents explaining to the children that during the night, mommy and daddy were hungry, and they ate all of your Halloween candy. So like I said it's been going on for eight years. Now, the first time I didn't see it the first year. I saw the second year people told you about it the first year, and I didn't see it. But starting with the second year, I started watching it. It is without a doubt the cruelest thing you could ever watch by. But boy is that funny. I don't find it funny. It hurts it honestly hurts my my heart. It really does it does. And I have tried my best to analyze I want so badly to understand why something so cruel can be so funny to some of us because there are other people or that's why you like pranks admit it. I hate praying. I do. But when you think about what's on the line here. This is the trust of your children as I watched it. Last night. And I brought in Somalia we'll play some audio for you in just a little bit. I realized something that's awful about myself. Which is I could do that to somebody else's children. But I could never do it to my own. See I'm nicer to other people's children than I am I own. So you do it. Yeah. Yeah. I thought you run the risk of your children never trusting us doing this. And in the it's not left unopened that long. I mean, don't they fess up pretty quickly? They never show them fessing up. This kid now, I've never seen that happen. But then I fell into that bracket. 'cause I was thinking that I'm watching this going how could you do that to your own child? And then I go, I I know plenty of kids I could do that to you know, you could do a thing like on Christmas where if you have kids where you give one kid all the great presence. And then give the other kid stick, a cinnamon and go, well, you know, no, I could not do that. That's what I'm saying. Is there's options out there. If you want to be mean to your kids, you could you pick the holiday don't do it. Right. That's now you've gone too far at Halloween. I can see but Christmas that's sacred. But I'm watching this going for those parents they're made of some kind of aluminum alloy, not quite steel, but aluminum alloy to do this to their kids. Don't think I could do this to somebody else's kid. I feel bad. I could never do. It's my own people do this. So they get attention. But then magnifies it because then those kids they're on national TV. They're they're little crying tantrums are on national TV, and they you know, they're too young to ask. I mean now that my kids are teenagers. If I wanna talk about something on the air. I honestly asked their rice, cool if I discuss this. Yeah. Not in this case. This is part of the game just exploit their children. Right. Right. Right. Right. All right. Well, we'll take a little break. And then we'll run you some of the audio. And there's something fascinating that I realized last night during watching this. Because like I said I've seen the seven out of eight years. He's done it. And I really I figured something out yesterday. We'll discuss this next. If you want to jump in three one to nine hundred seventy two hundred Bill and Wendy on WGN. Oh, can I read something Wendy before we go away to break? Yes. You know? What's not smart?.

"You know and and that's on them but you know the great thing about our culture here is that i think most people see the fun they see the humor they see that it's not you know one of the things i go back to often is that one of the comedians the you know the gut growing up in the '70s uh listening to richard prior albums have my mom known i would have been in big trouble but listening to richard prior albums but when he took what happened to him attic by the way it was a result of his own druguse but he made that into an entire stand up routine yudo know uh a and and in really it was a sad sad moment in his life there's no doubt it was devastating in his life but eight it for me set a ciaowned with that comedian especially that he was vulnerable but he was also willing to do whatever to bring some kind of white hearted moment or a series of hart had moments to that stage now some people today probably wouldn't see that is funny the bits that he did about yourself catching on fire you know as a result of his own druguse and i saw it as a mamat when a comedian was willing to at that point make fun of something that happened that was tragic but to lighten it up and and and also make people think about it in a very vulnerable moment in that comedians life thank you in a political comedy can be a whole area cement think of dana carvey doing ross perot yeah and and and then a george w bush and you know he was just great but i mean there the ross perot stuff was just iit was it was just classic because he had him donnie had an exaggerated ross perot down and he had bush a downgrade but then when you think about it remember when snl did the uh when it was a alghoul was at darrell hammond did elgort uh remember the lock law oh yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah member alive and it was and it was a it was just hilarious and i thought you know last last year when they did the presidential debates they kate mckinnon as hillary and and uh alec baldwin as as trump i don't think they had.

"Innocent in this this commentary it was it was just i was thinking about this to myself about what what it means to be different in america today and i think about trump because you know it's funny darrell hammond work with trump a lot and he thinks he's actually borderline brilliant not stupid and they'd pda landline things trump has more he worked with our and two thousand four awad on saturday night live he was on four times and so he will be with him the whole week because he was doing impressions of him and he sit and talk to him he thinks that the hit the the fact the defeated there 17 republicans and he did it by finding words that would throw them off the game you know little more little hands marco lying a bully okay a by people seriously bs oh whatever exactly what he was winning it's what though he's saying so he says that we underestimate us what his so he totally totally underestimate and so it got me think about them i think the trump regrets the mexican the wall thing but he's all lynn well yeah he'll never backtrack yeah and i think that that was he probably if he if you go back if he had not said that would he is still won the election probably not i think that wall things to aim with all of it but i i think that in that wall thing is going to be it's it's it's it's really in a in a in a play on words it's going to it's going to wall him in to a certain be in a certain person and what success yes will presidency will be if you don't build the wall than it's not successful and you know what i i've i've jumps before i've been on television before talking to people about senior how do you have approved is a racist and i'm like you got an half this is only half an hour show right anat but nobody's easy to prove you can go back to again you know the fact that trade but that he was sued for healthy on there but even you go even further and you i heard of a tape today on howard stern when he was talking about an old man who fell off a stage at back in no catches long with.
