"This is greeny for those players on that team in that locker room, giving anonymous quotes to a reporter about how bad their coaches are, when their season is going downhill. That's the softest thing you could do in sports. If you were a football player and your team is going down the tubes and you're giving anonymous quotes about how bad the coaching staff is. When you're a chicken. Greeny weekdays at noon Eastern on ESPN radio. You're smart speaker and on the ESPN app. Today, and I think the Jets have drafted you drafted the offensive lineman that's supposed to take you into the future of Makai Beckman, who I believe is a stone cold stud. In that situation, you're gonna have to start filling in skill players around him. When CJ Mosley will opted out this year. He's back on your defense. You've got a foundational piece there. If you get Quentin Williams to play up the stuff under a different staff potential, and then you add the quarterback again. Sam Darnold is largely what we saw at USC and has not been developed like Josh Allen. We're watching. On Monday night football right now at USC. Incredible Town put a lot of turnover is more of the same here. Too many coaching changes. So if you're going to start with new staff, why don't you take a page out of the Arizona Cardinals? And give your coach of fighting chance with a prospect that blows Baker Mayfield, Cuyler Marie Jo Burrow in the rest of these guys out of the.

"Right now, Kyla Murray to me has that ability. Defense. Is there going to adjust to him two and he's going to have to just like Lamar. Figure things out like any young quarterback. I think with the fact that Kyla Murray throwing the football is better than Kyla Murray running with the football as opposed to the other way around. Kind of like Kyla Murray Long term of Lamar Jackson. Love Kyla Murray even more. By the way. Just in case you're wondering. Of the corner starting quarterbacks in the NFL draft. "Percent need pick Scott sell sixty, two percent no thanks just looking twelve percent. All right. So you're going to sell at least that's what he's recommending and what kind of picks are you going to get? So then are the patriots in a rebuild mode or would they phrase it frame it like reloading perhaps I still think you've got to figure out if jared stood them comply. And maybe you know you know where whether or not he can play or not. because. It feels like Cam just a one year rental here and then I got to find out if I need to go all in on trading for a quarterback in the off season because you're gonna be able it feels like Sam darnold going to be available. And it feels like Sam darnold would certainly be an upgrade over Jarret Stidham. We haven't seen much of him, but I would like to know what they have early get a sense of what they have. Yes mclovin the jets are I. Think darnold cylinder contract the jets can't let them get up there. They wouldn't trade in division I don't I don't think they would jets being the yes. That's patriots have had traded coaches before daddy big free agent quarterback. I haven't heard everybody was talking about Tom Brady. But like I guess Dak.. Could be had? I guess he could be. But Yeah Jameis Winston New England. That's kind of interesting now. Mitchell trubisky. Jerry Jones made his weekly pitched up. He does a weekly show appearance on the fan five point three, the fan in Dallas and he was asked about his locker. Room Does, your team have a leadership void. One. Where the offensive line for just overall. But sears sears. Where do you? Where would you have a leadership? Is An experience void? Is it a talent board? Is. The latest not trying to be cute here the answer. The answer. No, I'm asking. There's Dodig. We'll shut up money answer. No. How well and. This is supposed to be friendly fire Jerry I'm guessing gets paid to come on this radio show and Probably knows host their. Jerry didn't answer the question really I mean, who is the leader on this to? The that's that's what he's saying. Now we have leaders here. He's a leader like he should tell us who is leaders are because I don't sense that there's leadership here. And I think it's a fair question. Is there a leadership void who are your leaders on this team? Because I don't know Mike McCarthy. I haven't seen that yet. Zeke..

"If we don't have good players like the catch the ball to run the ball to protect the quarterback Trevor Lawrence Really GonNa WanNa go to the jets. I would think I, would I would think Jeffrey that MCI Becton's a good pick I would think that Denzel mems is going to be a good pick and you gotta start somewhere. So why not start with those two players to answer your first question there. Yup. Did come back injury. He had a couple of good catches. Is a good player. But I mean, the jets aren't going to be a perfect team. I don't know I don't want to give up I'm Sam Darnold just yet. I understand he was your guy but. If key things keep going this way you're going to have to see him somewhere else. It's just the only way that it's GonNa go they end up with the worst record Jeffrey that's the end of it. You know he's going to have to resume his career somewhere else you'll have a better player I think when it's all said done. Yes. Sure. New York Jets Officially Release RB Le'Veon Bell

"All right Levian, bell got released from the jets, which is big for us, which is team don't pay running back also big for us, which is like the jets are the funniest organised eight picked the jets go to the playoffs last year. Let's just talk about that for years in the past last year. Split here's a here's a few. Since the jets hired Adam Gates things. Destroyed Sam darnold confidence and development. Check. Chased a homegrown talent out of town with incompetence in Jamal Adams. Made sure that no free agent will want to sign with them for years to come. Ranked last. In offensive production for two straight. Seasons. And let's just talk about how Adam Gates is. Still there he is still there and wait my favorite thing about it at all. You remember Anthony Barr was signing with someone off season. You remember the whole thing he signed with the jets he took a pay cut. To leave the jets and sign with the Vikings. He literally said no will work for less money as long as I don't have to be there. That's what that says about this jets organization.

We won't really because I don't know any of you guys, but you listen you can. And we'll shoot the shit about it. Love, the show in the takes all I keep. Hearing is teams that may trade a first round pick for darnold. The cardinals were only able to get a sixty second pick for Rosen, which is basically a third round. Pick darnold is eleven in one thousand nine is the starter and soon to be on an Owen Sixteen team, not sure why teams would give up a first round pick for a quarterback. Dog, Shit I'm a steelers fan, and that is what people are saying the steelers should do. I saw last year what life without Ben looks like and I just don't think is the answer answer thoughts. Well, I think everyone in the League first off most people didn't love Rosen coming out. He was a very polarizing prospect. So big thing when a guy like darnold or any young player gets traded. Is You're basing a lot of it off is a guy like Sam Darnold if the steelers the colts, the niners whoever? Were to be aggressive for Sam, darnold. You'd be basing a lot of that for how much you love Sam Darnold in the draft process in what you thought he would have been on your team because he's still twenty, three, twenty, four years old, and you'll just point at the jets as being the village idiots kind of dolphins did I would imagine the dolphins like Josh Rosen. Here's the thing. Most of the League do not my friends in the NFL did not like. He also had some attitude just impersonal issues. It wasn't like bad character, but it wasn't Sam Darnold was great character. Really, good talent. Now, he had to be molded anyone to the jets who are just a dumpster fire. Now I'm with you. Boston's New England Patriots Cam Newton is the greatest QB in his division

"Further proven otherwise can't noon is now the best quarterback in his division right I mean he's the best quarterback in the division right now I mean he's won a lot of games and he's thrown a lot of touchdowns and he's big and he's strong and he's good mostly like arm he's good yeah and Alan and Donna are unproven they are and could that change after four weeks this year yeah that could change like cam Newton could end up getting benched for ineffective play and can't and and Josh Allen and Sam Darnold both look hot out of the gates and both are leading football in passing state statistic that could totally happen and I could you know eat my words I don't want to say I don't expect that to happen I sure hope it happens but as it stands right now to day and this is a criticism I have of people who are like Nate you said cam Newton could be better than Tom Brady this year are you crazy Tom Brady from five years ago and I just want to stop you there because this is a top twenty from five years ago this is Tom Brady from right now and Tom Brady right now is not the Tom Brady of even four or five months ago he is forty something I'm almost thirty and I can barely play thirty six holes of golf without needing a jacuzzi tub in a backrub so don't give up right now I know Tom Brady's in slightly better shape than me I will concede that he likely has a slightly more rigorous workout regimen I get it he might be paying slightly more money to you know trainers and consultants slightly more I will concede that but the idea that we can't say cam Newton to day right now side by side with Tom Brady and cam Newton if you're going to tell me that he is better I I I don't I don't know about that I I just I think if you got a look at it from a non biased lands in say yes Tom Brady has warped and walloped this team for twenty years I respect the hell out of Tom Brady and if you don't I don't know what you've been watching but what I'll say is if you compare the two two day not you can't cherry pick this you can't say Tom Brady from two years ago in cam Newton from six years ago like add up but that's that's not what we can do here in this in this argument so I don't know I think it's really interesting I think we're going to figure out what you have in cam Newton pretty early on but it can't do is healthy pestilence seven wins at least for the new in the pictures I don't know what you could have penciled in you know yesterday Saturday before cam Newton came out like that I don't know what you can pencil maybe you maybe you're thinking with Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer whatever combination into going with their maybe you think therefore when football team I think that's crazy to think that with that defense yeah the news Kyle van Noy there was a couple other pieces but like that's again a defense that was literally last year considered maybe from a from an actual roster district and advanced analytics they appoint the best defense ever in terms of scoring and yardage output the fact that they're gonna lose one two players from a defense return everybody else that they're just gonna take this big dry I don't know

Roger Bennett (Men In Blazers) on the Return of the Premier League

"We Win Stadium you will be at home. I can promise you will feel you support. Stay safe. We are still with you and. You'll never walk alone. That was liberal F. C manager Jergen KLOPP in a message released yesterday. That will bring a tear, not just the eyes of his supporters. The dare I say anyone who cares about the most popular sports league in the world. That's right folks. After a three-month hiatus. The English Premier League is back today. Roger Bennett from men in blazers fills us in on these frantic few remaining weeks. So grab a pint and US as sub optimal tour of English soccer. I'm sorry, English football. I mean it comes. It's Wednesday. June seventeenth. This is ESPN daily. Presented by marathon. Roger! Kim's. Are you relieved? Your any skin daily and not my NFL pod, talking about your beloved quarterback Mitch Trubisky You Know God Love Mitch. trubisky is an incredible pressure to be knowing that your whole life is just destined to pan out to become the answer to a trivia question in about ten years, who was taken ahead of Deshaun Watson Patrick Mahomes. Roger Bennett is suffering bears fan. He's also the CO host of men in Blazers on the NBC. Sports Network and the men in Blazers podcast by just braced for him to end up with the green. Bay Packers, leading them on a fourth quarter drive two feet, my beloved Chicago Bears, and I can't wait for that movement. They'll probably deserve it. And we're not talking about bears football today. The wait is over the English premier league. The most Popular Sports League in the world is back after a one hundred day hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic Roger I'm sure you've been getting your fix from Bundesliga but I have to imagine the return of English. Soccer is hitting a little different for you. One hundred days feels like one hundred years to be candid. I've been staring at squirrels running up trees in the park, and feeling the adrenaline burst of a run through midfield, watching raindrops charge down my window and feeling just an incredible wing-play into play of missed from the primarily, but yes, it's back today with its global ratings I mean in Britain for much of Europe for much of the rest of the world outside of the United States, it's kind of a seismic as the NFL and the NBA rolled into with the Pantheon of heroes and villains to moments of glorious ecstasy, searing dispath fuse with dodgy haircuts snack tattoos. One hundred days off. When are going to have ninety two games scattered almost daily over the next couple of weeks. It's coming back because we love it because we miss it. It's coming back for. Hard news commercial reasons ultimately to an economic decision. It's going to come back and ghost game situation where it's fabulous. It's going to be different. The lack of an audience will have an impact on the football. We watched, but most importantly it is going to be good enough. It's GonNa. Be Great enough to connect us to a ruling global conversation and that's ultimately I think. Think we will miss about sports as our calling them. Ghost Games I hadn't heard that got left the Germans. They have a name for everything. Lay. They Call Them Guy Bela. And that is what they will be. Sam Darnold knows a thing or two about those back to English premier league, so we hit positive with most of the season done with exception of Liverpool they're. They're still to be decided. The top half of the table. Seven teams vying for five spots determine who will qualify for Champions League and Europa League which for those who don't know are the midseason European tournaments to be held next year. Roger Liverpool have clinched Champions League. Spot Manchester City has of course been banned from Champions League for Breaking Financial Fair play rules so that. That spot remains open despite city being second in the League. Right now. Arsenal wolves Chelsea Menu Lester Tottenham Sheffield all in the mix. What are you expecting to see from the top of the table? When the race for Champions League qualification, which is a bit like football's march madness, it's big tournament in which the best teams in the world. You're rail, Madrid, your boss Alana's. Para Sanjay Man's by Munich's compete all. Big English teams won't be in that for brand reasons for competitive reasons for commercial reasons and is. And completely wide open at the bottom of the table. All say English football has some Incorr- ellegation, which is if you watch game of thrones? It's a bit like the moon door. Teams get flung through that in baseball, the worst teams every year like the Orioles in the mall in which is flung out of the major leagues, the mooted, and in that place. We had the Tulsa drillers around rook. Rook Express and that is, it's a searing. It is a haunting. It is a savage palm of the global football tradition, and you have six teams at the bottom who are fighting to avoid what can be economically devastating their revenue roughly hauls flung out. The Premier League is savage for the fan base. One Minute. You are watching your team. Take to the glamorous fields, Manchester United and Arsenal the next. Round Brentford Luton Barnsley barring a miracle the Jewish using Norwich canaries will disappear, but there's five teams Aston. Villa Bouma th what furred and West Ham amongst them, two of which will go with them for the big story line. Meena is Liverpool Football Club. American owned little football. Club owned by the Boston Red SOx owners, F S J and their yearning. They're dreaming of a return to greatness that was once titletown by when I was a kid growing up in Liverpool. Just six points away from lending the title that they have dreamed of then. That is the great storyline of the season. On that note. This Sunday. The team that you root for I'm sorry. I'm getting a producer this side you support. Everton, we'll be squaring off against Liverpool. They are twenty five points clear off the other teams in the League, and there's possibility they can clinch the title at Goodison Park Against Your beloved Everton on Sunday

What To Do When Things Go Wrong

"Today's topic. I WanNa talk about when things go wrong in what to do so a lot of questions come in and say of course a lot of my podcasts slash castles positive Rebecca. Good things on all the rest of it end of had loved. Come through and say that's a good at obviously. I've had some great lock. Things have gone. But what do I do when things go wrong so Great thing for me to address had to give it some thought To make sure that have lighted at In a way that people can understand in under the ten minutes. But I'm so he's he's a bit of a process of Guthrie when things have gone wrong in the past and of course it always talk about the journey. Not a destination and distancing is all about vision and dumb. Obviously the journey is all about planning and being able to pivot and as we know in lost. The journey doesn't always go smoothly. Halley ever will always go smoothly. I'm guys lately with probably pushing had enough. So he's a good way to be prepared or what? I've done When things have gone wrong what do I do? The first thing is always expressed problems. But I don't Miss my Tampa now that's how Said that's easier said than done but what I've always tried to do is keep the emotion away from the problem in a good way to do that is to get a piece of paper and pen and actually clearly articulate the problem. Surat the part of the problem down on a piece of paper. I'm really hurting. The actual problem is I'm a talk about putting some stocks. Not Fines CITRONEN. Do this quite early is always the best thing what best expressed the problem and the best way to express the problem clearly without losing tempa is to actually get a piece of paper and a pin and write down what you believed. The problem is in. It'll become clear the second thing is. I like to talk things. I'd like to talk to obviously confidants. Close friends advisers elected. Talk to my wife has been obviously my best advisor and closest advisor to me but what I make sure do is that I'd done drag them into the line of fire talking to someone and getting clarity and dumb. Asking for clarity is a completely different thing than boding with mark problem or dragging them into the problem because I find that if you drag them into the problem. You're actually getting the clarity that you're seeking but rather talking to the people around you Than I understand it. Then you've clearly articulated what the problem is number two guys with number one. They obviously express your problem. But then talk to the people closely. Rangoon if they can yom. You've clearly identified with the problem is I'll be able to clean understand it but be very surely dragging them into it. And of course we've been calling on the other side of that in the past week. Let other people dragged into problems so. Make sure that we don't do that. Get Opinions on solutions but Darnold of decisions for you and that's something that happens. A lot is obviously we want to get the pains of on solutions. But sometimes they're expecting people to make decisions for us. And that's something that I was got against is elected opinions. Unclogged often. Said people feel remind. Choose what would you do if I was in your shoes but I would do but I don't expect people to make the decisions for me They're not in a position he doesn't know what you know and obviously looking at a different set of eyes is good and helpful but not saying what you're saying so it's great to the opinions on solutions from others or what they would do but don't expect them let them make the decision for you. Number four is try to solve the problems. But don't beat yourself up if you can't. I always talk about how you doing the best that you came at the time that it's happening with the resources that you have to always trying solve the problem. That's of course what we're trying to but as much as we sometimes trying to solve the problem is complex solve that it doesn't mean that there's no answering it doesn't mean that we beat us up. It means that we keep spinning that Rubik's cube until we can fold find the best solution but a good way to to benchmark. This is. Am I doing this. I can't at the time that it's happening. The resources that I have number five is meet the issue head on. But don't dwell on it so you need to tackle the issues again. Talk about putting on spots not fine the ability to try and find that there's a problem or an issue straightaway or deal with the STRETO. He's always going to be better than letting it fester but again. Don't dwell on a find in the work of enduring Dr Spencer keeps talking about mind and heart coherence and that the buddy wants to take to the Pasta. The mind needs to take you to the future If you dwell on it you're going to be reading the Pasta and we don't want that you need to meet the issues head on Dwell on them forever. You need to get into that in-space of food thinking you need to conquer that problem in the move on you need to be living in the future so the body thinks you've achieved that right now and that's where you right in the spice number six is give you social spice from the problem. If you need to figure it out but don't run away from it so whilst money yourself some spice schmunity working on it rather than in it but don't run away from it at times of saying that people have a problem. We get significant rather than working on it. They separate themselves completely and then never actually put that faraway output that far APPs and festers infested it becomes a raging blazing off you at times. You're going to need some spice from the problem to figure it out but you don't run from it. It needs to be sold because it won't be solved on time and number seven is taking seriously when things go wrong but that gets enjoy yourself and I said it's a lot is Cobb Life is a journey and the destination is will be left with memories. And that's why I talk about. Life is measured in moments whether it's personal professional or family loss is measured in moments and we need to make sure that whilst problems a serious in Kane become seriously deal with them we got to remember to have some fun and celebrate the wings in celebrating the wings is something that I find is very very important and a lot of people. Forget that Tom's because if not celebrating the winds than at Brian is always burning in an area that is about what's next. What's next and we not getting that? Brian adherence. We need that. Brian Hubka here. We need to make sure with constantly celebrating. A wins appreciating where we are where we've come from and what we need to do to get better so as a city might Tonight or haven't had a lot of problems. A lot of things go wrong but have had things go wrong in the seven things on outline the things that I've done that along the way to try and help me get through the problem. Of course everybody has different personality. Everybody deals with things differently. This is not a second. This is my view. This is what's worked for me You take these seven steps and add your own or I mean. Some of them will will change into the white suit. Indicates that getting the result it's all about getting to that distant action whilst we might take a different journey. I'm such a recap march seven wiser expression problems. But don't do business egotistical emotional to control that ten bucks number to talk to your friends get their opinions but done drag them into the line of fire number three get opinions on solutions but make sure that no one else was making the decision by yourself. Number four is try to solve the problems but dumpy yourself up. If you can't number I you doing the best we can at the time that tiffany with the resources that you have a five. His tackled as issues head on. But don't dwell on them forever number six yourself some spicy if you need it but don't run away from the problem. He wants so self and number seven finally is whilst you need to take them seriously. Don't forget to have some fun. We need to have fun and as I said. Lock is measuring moment so to the listeners of sending messages about how? I DEAL WITH PROBLEMS OF WEXFORD POEMS. Bamdad sentenced to help you again. It's my perspective tight. "Season let's talk about the the Broncos free agents that they could be doing a really really good job of posting up some video break down to the players that the Broncos have recently added it's giving people a chance to kind of get to know some of these players some of our our household names like Melvin Gordon but Graham Glasco certainly is not a household name I think for a lot of Broncos fans so maybe let's just let's call it back to the AJ Bouye a trade and what did you what do you think the Broncos got with AJ Bouye well I think first and foremost this is a life of Fangio's scheme fit to be T. at you know he's a he's a lanky guy he's got speed towards what I think of a cover three or mast cell type defense of financial likes to run he's a very smart player in terms of getting himself in position there was a place Sam Darnold you know the just like the run that post will route a lot they try to run it earlier in the game and you know I think they did a very good job communicating at their place band coverage there and boy a cover number one on the post pattern pretty decently late in the game they try to throw the same exact routes and boy they read it perfectly he gotten from the wide receiver and shielded him almost like a box out in terms of of a basketball type analogy here and he was able to go downfield to make a play on that post pattern intercepted returned about twenty six yards off enjoy downhill looks more guys in band you know Ryan you guys know this well but being around silty a lot more defensive back plays importance and I know that a lot of Broncos fans been clamored for a star name but look aged boy if he can recreate a little bit at twenty seventeen season any ad you know it's gonna be fully healthy corner to twenty twenty you can still be a guy that contributes massively in you don't have to have the most amount of telling your secondary if you got guys that are really smart that's one thing about how Justin Simmons involved fans your system I think Borges same type of player not just a bully a Simmons Jackie Jackie a Gaza border they're all intelligent guys and guys that are willing to hit is there anybody out there you see right now on the free agent market still left it maybe the Broncos could bring in and that the the defense the second or the kind of fits that mold you know I was thinking a lot about it you know one of the names that I think we've all talked about as principal tomorrow but with Chicago Bears releasing and he met all the time in the world to be able to sign in the fact they haven't done so just yet tells me that you're not interested or you're waiting for a few more things to happen in terms of you know Simmons and you may be full plans yet on off that extension's gonna happen now in the off season of this year but I feel like it may look more so in the NFL draft and no garlic Bryce Oliver junior I like him I am also an EC Roberson Adalat tech is one of the guys that still exonerated could be available maybe in the second third fourth round if this team really wants to look at that position are you mentioned earlier in the broadcast to kill will be called when we told him you know what the rockets could you never gets called PI so that might be a good idea to bring in in but also that for like the market outside is is pretty small you know there's like save your roads I feel like would be too pricey and I just don't see where he would fit right now and the Broncos can consider that they traded for boy name and they also re signed Vontae buys before I project in forty eight I'm gonna be the outside corners provincials defense this year so really at this point Thomas like the market right now has close for Denver on cornerback to like I said I think that could change at any point time considering if they make any roster moves to fix more space I think restructuring Callaghan's contract opens the door for maybe another mover to

Dunkin Donuts & The Danger Of Literal Branding

"You're probably familiar with a brand called Dunkin donuts. You're probably also familiar with a saying or variation of it. That says what got us to where we are today is not necessarily. What's going to get us to where we need to be in the future and that to me certainly sums up Dunkin donuts. It's a brand. That started back in the fifties in the US. And I was selling coffee and doughnuts the donkey of the darnold. Although I'm not sure I've ever dunked a donating coffee view as anybody on anyway it. It's what helped I think. Dunkin donuts establish itself as a global brand. They had a very simple brand promise. We had great coffee and doughnuts now what it does to me though is. It represents the contradiction of branding which is initially at least. You've got to be very narrow and very specific so that your brand message in your brand mission is clear and that people know what they're getting yet as you expand or as you want to diverge that specificity might actually work against you. And that's what's happening. I think now with Duncan. They've decided to drop off the charts off the end of the game so now they just known as Duncan this has happened in the US. It's rolling internationally a bit slower but the idea is that. They've decided to be more of a beverage lead company and so if they're not doing doughnuts they dropped the dinosaurs now they just Dunkin but the problem is as a beverage brand. Doesn't really make sense unless you're going to be dunking stuff in the beverages and I don't think that's really going and so again. I think it's a great example of the contradiction of branding. When you stop you've got to be very specific but as you grow and expand or diverge you have to think about how that specific brand name is going to work for you or against you. Which is why the benefits of a name like Amazon? Oh apple lease names. That didn't really mean anything specific to a product line although an apple is an apple but you know what I mean. Those brands are great. Because you can define what is part of your product. Set your product suite of goods You can't do that necessarily. You've got a brand like Dunkin donuts. So if you're in the middle of branding or if you've had a brand for while you're thinking about a rebranding you're you're thinking about the future the next five ten year plan. Think about is your brand name. GonNa be General and broad enough to be able to lay to diverge in those carry in those directions if not you might need to think about changing your brand at some point in time and if you got to do that it should be a probably a slow transition as opposed to an overnight thing so you probably want to stop thinking about it. Now if you'll thinking in maybe five or ten years you want to start going into a slightly different direction which isn't true to your current brand name

Bengals at the Combine in Indianapolis, taking a closer look at Joe Burrow

"With us here from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis where we will be all week so much going on. I'm waiting next with Adam. Schefter Louis Riddick Todd mcshay and Mike Tannenbaum just to catch you up right now. Here's what's happening today in Indianapolis. It will be a very busy week. At Five o'clock eastern though owners are expected to meet players to talk about the new CBA which could expand the playoffs and move to a seventeen game regular season. We've got forty seven. Nfl head coaches and GMT. We'll be talking today. You're also hear from SEC. Standouts Joe Borough and to a ton of Aloha who also addressed the media earlier today. Jonesboro put on an absolute show as you know on route to a national championship for Lsu setting an FBI. Single season record with sixty touchdown passes and Ditto. While completing a whopping seventy six percents of his passes and not only that but bro won the heisman trophy in dominant fashion receiving a record ninety point seven percent of the first place votes here. Our previous comments from Joe Borough on February seventeenth during a reception. For the Davey. O'brien award. He had this to say I do have leveraged the Bengals have their process and I have my process. We haven't even gotten to the combine yet. There's a lot of things that happened. Leading up to the draft. A lot of information gathered bras. Mother Robin shot down the idea. Her son does not want to play for the bengals. Saying we have no idea where that came from. It's a story out there that has created that doesn't have any substance at least from our perspective here Hasbro earlier today here at the combine. Of course I want to be the first pick. That's that's every kid's dream you know I've worked really really hard for this opportunity and I'm blessed to be in this position. I'm a ball player. Whoever picks me on my go show up? How play whoever for forever dressing? You know. I'm just not going to be presumptuous. About what they WANNA DO I. It's the draft. You guys have been covered it for a long time and you never know what's going to happen so we played a month longer than everyone else and everyone else's been training a month longer than us you know. I wanted to put. I don't I didn't think I'd be able to put my best foot forward here at the combine so I wanted to wait till pro day had another whole month of training and just be the best that I could be when everyone when. Everyone's eyes are on me. You know coming in. If you're the number one pick the teen is picking number one. Is there for a reason? So you're going to have to come in. There's going to be ups and downs and you've got to stay steady through the process. Our research tells us about Joe. Borough is his own man. He's not going to be talked into saying things for other people's benefits so if that's what he said. That's that's fantastic. I'm looking forward to getting to know him getting to meet him through. The process haven't been able to sit down with them yet. But we've got that on the horizon. We'll talk more about Joe. Boroughs plans to hold off throwing here at the combine. But might I'll start with you in terms of do you want? Do you not want to play for the being. You have any issues at all with where we landed at least at this point. No I mean as I said last week Joe Borough at the end he does not have leverage. The bengals have the first pick in the draft. If they want to draft. Joe Joe Borough. That's where he's GonNa go now with that. Said I think it's incumbent upon sack Taylor in the Bengal organization to create the Right Environment. Where he could come in and they could build something sustainable and truly transformative so. I think where we wended. Wendy is appropriate last week. He could've handled that better but to Joe Boroughs credit. I think they tweak things I think they're in a good spot now. He's been well-coached past week. Tower doesn't it. Yeah and Adema to your Do All your contacts. It appears that borough likely young he's projected pick. I still think that's where the bengals ultimately go. And they're sitting there and that's about this a team that needs somebody to revitalize that franchise and they are expected to look to trade Andy Dalton at some point this off season and so when you're sitting there in division with Lamar Jackson there in Baltimore think that they know that they have to get somebody in there. That's going to put some points on the Board Baker Mayfield Cleveland and this is going to be the pick for the Cincinnati bengals. Even Joe was considering trying to exercise some kind of leverage really the only leverage you have is withhold your services and not playing not report even if he was thinking along those lines. Let's say he's doing a deep dive trying to figure out exactly. Just what the Cincinnati offer as far as developing me as a quarterback. Could you blame him? Could you really blame him for wanting to dig? Deep on exactly what? What does the future going to look like during over the course of my rookie contract with this football team would exactly? What exactly is Mike Brown's commitment to go ahead and building out this roster around me because we all know a lot of what's going to happen to him has nothing to do with him and has everything to do with everything that's going to be around him. Just look at the past three or four drafts. And how certain players have benefited from going to certain to certain teams? Just look at l a look at the difference between jar rookie year in his second year. Sean mcvay came in. It flipped his rookie year. People were saying Jared Goff to Canada. All of a sudden his second year is like. Oh wait a minute. Maybe he's not so bad you couldn't blame him. If that was a thought Lewis to that point I also think an opportunity. If you're Zach Taylor to say hey what's happened in the past. It's irrelevant we're going to myself with you and we're going to build something great and we can't worry about what's happened before we have a lot of work to do. But if I'm the bengals if I have a hey coach Taylor. That's worked with quarterbacks. Like you mentioned Jared Goff Joe Boroughs Billy and character. That's a great opportunity for the bengals. Sino three things one. Is that if something were to go on with. The bengals is not going to happen in public and this has been addressed in the past week if it's going to happen behind the scenes so whatever we hear from this point on. Don't even don't even look at it. Don't think about it because it has nothing to do with with what is going on behind the scenes. The second thing is this guy's different cab he beats. It goes a Beatles drummer. He doesn't care what anyone else has done. In the past what everyone else is GonNa do in the future? He's going to do what's best for Joe Borough but the third thing I know about him is he's a football guy he's his. His brothers played linebacker at safety at Nebraska. His Dad's a almost four decades coach in football. He's a football guy at its core. He's from Ohio. Obviously I think when it's all said and done he winds up going in Cincinnati if he's number one overall pick but again. If it's GonNa Happen it's GonNa Happen. Not In the media. It's GonNa happen behind the scenes again. Joe Bro not expected to throw on Thursday. He said he just wasn't ready yet. Not a huge deal. Sam Darnold Kyla Murray. The last two years have opted not to throw here at the combine as well. What did make headlines on Sunday? Oddly enough pros hand measurements the measurable quarterbacks took place on Sunday on the smaller side. Love listen here's what he said after it was suggested his aunt size was small considering retirement after. I was informed that we slipping out of my tiny hands. Please keep me in your thoughts while he's got good company because here's what Super Bowl fifty four. Mvp Patrick Mahomes had to say who had just slightly larger hands than did borough my small Andrew doing great so far all right he should say believe in yet. Here's borough earlier today addressing his hands. Yeah I mean these measurements you can. You can take so much from them if it's a glaring issue on film with turnovers. Yeah it's probably an issue but I didn't have a lot of fumbles or anything like that so I just tried to make a little joke out of it I think it's a non factor I don't get paid to talk about. Measurements and analyze. The measurements like played to play football. So that's what I'm GONNA do. I look we're not gonNA make too much of this question. Well yet about what? They actually do what they're actually measuring here so worry not. We've got a ruler. We've got Louis at. I mean really what you're really trying to do is just trying to measure the expense of someone and they put it down on the ground and you actually hear about guys actually doing hand exercises to stretch their hand as wide as possible although when you're grabbing a football you're actually going to measure from the tip of the thumb to the tip of the Pinky here and this is hard because this is a hard rule and you can't really get good accurate measuring you look tired type by just under nine right. Look I'll give you a non center's Oh that's attention and would have actually done something with my. I mean what's interesting when you watch the tape of Joe Borough? There are situations where people come from behind strip him when he's trying to move up in the pocket and run. I mean that's going to happen if you have nine if you have ten inches so I mean it's not a glaring obvious problem as far as him on the football field and that's why I think it's really. It's just going to be something that will hopefully wind up forgetting about certain the biggest thing is and you know this with all of these drills you know as well. Mike you go back to the tape and you're trying to find something after the fact that says okay. Now I'm going to look specifically at these things so you're gonNA look cold weather rain and then ball security and Joe Boroughs as good as any college quarterback you're ever going to see in the pocket in terms of two hands on the ball and protecting the ball. I saw him in two thousand eighteen the last weekend. In September against Ole Miss. You can go back and watch the tape. My suit was soaking wet when I did the open of that game. It was pouring rain driving rain in anyone who says it doesn't rain in Baton Rouge on a Saturday night is lying to you. Because it poured and he completed seventy two percent of his throws with three touchdowns and zero interceptions in that game. So you go back to the tape and you try to look at these things and what the tape tells you is. He's just fine. You know I had a theory here. I have an interesting experience with hand size so I was forced out in two thousand eight. We were we trade for Brett Farve and just as a fan of sport. I can't wait to go out to the first practice and watch Brett farve throw. There's nothing physically imposing about breath and he goes out there and he's throwing Abe I've ever seen and I ask them like what is the value. Where's this philosophy comes from it? He said you know what Mike I have long fingers and I actually couple of football the way a lot of people throw a softball. I could actually be over the top and that's where I get all my philosophy from just watching my practice. It was unbelievable to watch though. I know as Lewis show. There's a tradition of how we measure hands but finger. Length is actually an underrated aspect of playing quarterback so far so far small hands but long fingers and you know what my pinky and all the time strong throwing football pictures of the five. It's easily the least important finger in the hand and I can't remember it ever being a big factor. It's all there in the grip. The pinky to me doesn't matter. It's archaic. How we're measuring the quarterback's hand span now with that. Said there's thirty four quarterbacks in the last fourteen years who have been drafted that have had hands of nine inches and smaller and really only two of them had any sort of Sustained Success Ryan. Tannehill is one of them and Jared. Goff is the other. That's it so there are thirty two out of thirty four. Who have failed. But are we going to say that he's going to the Joe Boroughs? Not GonNa have success because his hands tells me that the reason for their failure wasn't because they were nine inches weight.

New York Jets head coach Adam Gase responds to support

"Adam Gates in his first season as head head. Coach of the New York jets his record today to end seven nevertheless interesting time for a vote of confidence jet CEO. Christopher Johnston said yesterday Ah Adam gays will return for the two thousand twenty season here is the jets CEO. I want to ensure you there would be no changes changes in coaches Adam. How's the trust of this team as the trust Sam? Joe's trust he has my trust. He's a good man. He's a good coach. There is a lot of work to. There's a great deal of to everyone understands And we're just getting started. I feel really good good Memphis team moving forward anytime you get support from ownership the way that the staff Scott supported. The old has gone way. Obviously we wanted We got a lot of games are jobs improve this team and go out and try to win games every week. And he's with us through every step within our communication with him so he kind of knows what we've been trying to do how we're we're trying to fix things that are that are wrong so no to get his support for him to Kinda see what we're trying to do. It's that's an important step fluish. Well that was Adam Gatien course responding to the SAGA lineup. Was He trying to avoid eye. Contact Tech High. We're out here. Do you find that the timing at all interesting or Steve. Young made the point. Yesterday Robert was a good time to do it. So people stop asking the question. I mean it is a good time. Just say. Hey He's going to be here next year but look he's been there one year having hasn't been a great year for him but you know look overall head coaching record. He's about forty a two percent. When winning percentage he wins about forty two percent of the time? So you know. It doesn't look so great for him moving forward but look he's got the support Ownership they're going to give him one more year and I can guarantee that next year if they're in the same position that they're not going to be so lenient on giving him another year. So Oh you look at what. NFL coaches are nowadays. They have guaranteed contracts. I highly doubt they WanNa give him a nice contract and then just release him halfway through his I well it gets to be an expensive decision. Yeah and that's a really great point because ownership obviously is invested in their pick. They want their pick to look good exam. You know you don't WanNa WanNa give up on what you decided so quickly although that has happened to certain coaches inside right around the league. But you can't forget that even even when Todd Bowles was there that the jets were ten and six in their first season and it was really bad. Blow to this team to the supper loss against the Miami Dolphins and just some of the adversity city that they've gone through since Particularly when there's been a lot of expectations with Sam darnold presidents on that team. Well Yeah. He was brought in large part to work with a young quarterback to develop SAM. Darnold help him take the next step. What's interesting is that they share the same stadium with the giants are struggling as well? Now in this case Pat Shurmur is in his second year as a head coach. But look they're coming off the bye. They've lost six straight. What's the word around his future? Well Adam gays was asked recently just how secure he is in his job in one of the ways in which which he retorted. What's to say I'm built for this? Just projecting confidence which you would expect the head coach to do. But I would be remiss to mention that some of the reporters in New York noted that was kind of the same something that Ben mcadoo said three weeks before the giants got rid of him and and clearly this is not the adversity or excuse me what they were looking to results wise to be having right now coming off of in two years of What they endured under Ben mcadoo but the reality is promising as Daniel Jones has looked particularly when he's throwing the ball With with the return of Saquon this is not what they were looking for. They're still suffering losses even with saquon on the field. I mean he has not had over sixty five rushing yards in the last three times he played. Hey only had two one hundred rushing yard games. That was in the first two weeks Daniel Jones continues to have issues with the interceptions. Fumbles and things of what have you and it has has. It was altered in wins. And you can't neglect the fact that this is in New York and teams with that media pressure there as well. It won't stop. It's hard to perform with a rookie quarterback though in this in this league it's not they had veteran it didn't it didn't work out. He still there by the way. He's still there. But look in this league. It's hard for a young quarterback to come in and be successful and I just think that we're witnessing growing pains of a young quarterback trying to figure his way Out through a hard schedule last year at this time he was done you know now. He's about halfway through so I mean it's it's a lot more difficult. I agree with you. Rob The only issue of course with the New York giants dances. They've had a lot of these same problems whether it was a long-term veteran quarterback or a yet stroup Such a great point. And so then you start to have to ask other kinds of questions

Jets' Sam Darnold cleared for non-contact, uncertain to play

"Coach. Adam gays and a conference call today talked about the health of his quarterback. Sam darnold right now what they're telling us. Is E cabinet contact on tax. So if we were playing a game tomorrow or Wednesday he wouldn't be able to play because he hasn't been cleared for contact at what point in the week you have to make a determination. If Sam can't play of it you have have to get ready for what what is your cut off point with making the decision on. Sam Not Ideal. It's not ideal situation. That was the first question I asked as well. It'd be one thing if you're looking looking at a guy that has played in the league like twelve years or something that could be the whole week and all of a sudden get. The rug pulled out from under us. This is more of a situation of when you gotTa younger backup you know and if he was gonNA play so the sooner the better that I have an answer right now. It is what it is. I mean I just have to kind of preparing with the possibility of Sam going and then possibility that Luke my heel. That's the that's the honest truth right there and that's the unfortunate aspect for jet season that is going the tubular route fast. I can't imagine darnold who's just been cleared for non contact stuff getting out in the middle of the of the week and being able able to get up to speed for Philadelphia Eagles team that we saw was chasing down Aaron Rodgers last week. I wouldn't do that no chance yet. Darnold was asked all. I got this in his speech. Let me let me do this pleased. It would be a my honor to do this police mind because as you know my favorite great graphic in the history of Monday night football in the vast history of Monday night football is thank. You Are Los Angeles Broadcasting Center. They have it at the ready. It's it's it's that motion you the man point that they had Sam Darnold Ucayali in front of a green screen the middle of August probably longtime having no idea that the lift your arm seven point at the screen would be used for indefinitely mononucleosis graphic. Most jets graphic ever ever now has a quote to go with it as I tweeted out to go yeah yeah in answer to the question. Is your spleen still swollen now. It's Germane question for somebody who has mononucleosis because that is the crucial organ of your body. That's most affected by illness can't mess around with okay is your spleen still swollen a very rare. Germane question that's asked of a human being let alone an NFL quarterback. That's viewed as a savior of a franchise answer. It's out of my control. My spleens going to do what it's going to do. which is by the way a new record not just for the jets very jets not thing but overall the most unique twist of it is what it is right now in a by part my spleens? GonNa do what it's GonNa do not have a crystal ball. I'm only talking about the spleen that are here. My God what is happening don't mean to laugh except I do but look cases. Giants Name Daniel Jones the Starter, Sending Eli Manning to the Bench

"Re hitting the top story of the day Daniel Jones going to start this week for the New York giants against the Tampa Bay buccaneers Eli Manning officially benched looks like his career with China's over as the starting quarterback well again and we'll see what Daniel Jones happened. I mean he could get blown up and then he lies back in there. Yes that's true I I mean but we haven't heard from Pat Shurmur and we will tomorrow and and what we will hear as I'm sure he's the quarterback and we're moving forward with him and Eli will do his best to mentor him in any. I don't think Eli wants to be traded on like he wants to go anywhere. People are wondering if he is traded spot track tweeted out while unlikely if the giants do trade Eli Manning. He'll cost his new team six hundred seventy six thousand dollars as per week ten point one million dollars to the rest of the season. The giants have already paid him six point eight million the jets are going to get Sam darnold back before or the midseason point okay. The Jaguars are going to get nick foles back around the midseason point. Drew brees is coming back around the midseason point. The steelers are not getting big ben back but it makes sense for them to see who they have in Wehr young guy a guy that Ben didn't want to mentor cantor when he was drafted last year he was definitely rankled by the drafting of Mason Rudolph the of that. I don't believe there's any doubt and he didn't say a mentor him like Rudolph said it's not Ben's Job to mentor me and he used that on his radio show which has since since been shuttered that just to put it all out there that I'll just point to the book and just say you know that's yours since he doesn't want me to mentor him even thought it was funny and and it landed with a thud but they have to see what they have in Mason Rudolph and at Mason Rudolph. Let's say performs like Dak where it's amazing and he's terrific traffic and the team makes the playoffs and gets a playoff start then. We're going to have an interesting thing on her hands right here. Ben will come back and come back saying I am ready to show up and it'll be like far like when Aaron Rodgers got there like oh I don't plan will be ready to garage. Come back in shape. He'll probably say ten fifteen rounds and it'll be ready to go and put the steelers and a tough bind but that is a high class problem and the steelers are going to find out if that's a high class problem that they can have because at some point Ben will be done and Mason Rudolph. We'll be sitting there and for Mason Rudolph he'll be able to just basically say to them because they don't have a fifth year option on him because he wasn't a first round draft pick nick franchise tag me Pittsburgh or trade me and someone also pay me like Jimmy Garoppolo. This is a big opportunity for him and whose his first quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo so we lies not going anywhere no one's going to be wanting to hire Eli manning and the giants the best backup quarterback and perfect mentor for for Daniel Jones perfect. Why would they trade him? who had taken are just told every? I just gave you the possibilities. Nobody needs him but you're you're. You're not like it's not like there's a Minnesota Vikings situation where they had to pull the trigger for Sam Bradford because they had a super bowl ready team that went poof because teddy bridgewater blew his knee up but if you take away his name. Ui Manning and you look on paper you're trying to acquire a guy is three and nineteen eighteen again his last starts and seven years old and I'll say this again do we have shown O'Hara's tweet and obviously he's biased. He won a super bowl with Eli. Put it up Shara so incredibly disappointed and frustrated with the giants right now. Defense gives up sixty three points in two games wide receiver group is depleted but let's change your. QB question marks Kurt said the same thing he sees the film you lie is not making poor decisions. He's making the right decisions. The only decisions decisions he has in front of him and he's being held to account now you can say that it's been a long time coming but it's not the only answer and Daniel Daniel Jones and again credit gettleman. He's putting it out there right now he could have sat there and say I take the rest of the year because the ownership is ready for you. Take the rest of the year and then I'll get more. I'll get more top five picks for Daniel Jones but he didn't do it. What if Daniel Jones comes out as three hundred yards and beats the bucks this week while then we're we're not talking about any more we

"I thought Mason Rudolph all good it from what I saw just looking at the numbers this morning in the first half half with primarily big Ben I know he departed at about the two or three minute mark of the second quarter or with a two or three two or three minutes remaining in the second quarter rather but you look at the first first half steelers four point three yards per play forty two percent success rate with Big Ben in the second half five point nine yards per play fifty two percent success rate with Mason Rudolph off. He looked pretty capable. There's a reason they moved dobbs so I think you know things. Look a little better for the steelers offensively. The problem album is Mike. Tomlin's defense fell apart in the second half gave up eight point eight yards per play in the second half once. Big Ben goes out right. It's on you Mike Tomlin. It's on your defense inst- to step up and shoulder that increased load instead they regressed right in the eight point eight yards per place in the second half doesn't include the the monstrous pass interference appearance. Call there on edmunds for additional thirty eight yards so steelers. This is kind of the fear we had. We kind of just assumed roomed. It said Hey lady on bell didn't play all of last year no Biggie they seem to make up for that but all of the losses on offense Mike check the offensive line coach. Now you're dealing with James Caan as well left with a knee injury. We'll talk to Dr Trial about that. One see what he says now. You're on the road traveling across the country face San Francisco. It's going to be interesting to see. It sounds like you'll be Mason Rudolph under center yeah very very interesting to see how some of these things kind of play themselves goes out and you always wonder how these teams rebound with some key faces that may or may not be there and of course the steelers staring down the barrel of that Owen to start. We'll see if they can get things corrected as you alluded to their trip on the road to San Francisco but as is the right of oddsmakers and better like you typically see overreactions in week two by the time you get to week three or starting to get a better sense of who some of these teams are and identify how these numbers need to be set figuring out for some of those situational edges so when we look at the look ahead lines for next week pay not a ton of overreaction in the market by any stretch you do have the packers on a look ahead number go for six and a half point favorite now to more than a touchdown touchdown chalk against the Denver Broncos who have to wipe themselves up off the deck knowing they let a glorious opportunity against Chicago bears. Get away from spot on Denver had their heart's ripped out. There obviously not going to have their early season altitude advantage here like they had a week ago. There's whispers within the locker room not all the players. Here's Love Vic Fangio's old school coaching style. If you start doing oh or you win a game like that and you're one and one suddenly players let that slide by but when you're in two you now you're an eight point underdog on the road. Let's see if they can overcome that once. Leflore script were off though for Green Bay and the Vikings woke up the packers offense was back to sucking again and you look into doubt just on the day four point nine yards per play for for the green offense the final three quarters the packers offense averaged three point two yards per play a forty percent success rate and Rogers had zero explosive passes fastest final three quarters so still some things to figure out offensively. They're for Green Bay came out with their hair on fire much much Dr Chagrin but that was kind of after the first quarter the the pace and the output we we kind of handicapped and projected there for the Green Green Bay offense yeah and they even gave were gifted at touchdown for the Minnesota Vikings when they turn the ball over to take that fourteen nothing lead out to twenty one but we're not gonNA cry over spilled. Milk will continue to look get some of the numbers for next week to massive point spreads. That'll remind you a lot more of college football than they will the national football league. I couldn't even tell you in an historical context when you're GONNA see two favorites favorites of this big magnitude pain look ahead number for the patriots thirteen points. Now I know Sam Darnold of course was factored into this look ahead number with him. Being out regardless of how the jets perform tonight against the Cleveland browns you're looking at the pats a seventeen and a half point favorite yes differing numbers on the look ahead. One shop had the look at as low as ten. They actually produced that before the Sam Darnold News obviously so you have patriots than Bennett. They've outscored their opponents now. Seventy seventy six to three you know Antonio Brown is a go. It looks like a real factor and it's not just Sam Darnold. That's going to be down again right. There's other guys that have some injury question question marks for the jets interesting see where this number goes right. I think there's going to be a lot of movement. Obviously it's not open everywhere right now but you know trevor sending in the jets pull off off an upset tonight or if they get blown out this number is going to head in different directions right. I think if the jets get blown out you're probably looking at closer to twenty if they somehow pull off the upset victory probably turning back down towards two touchdowns.

"They can do for themselves. They don't need mommy and daddy in their mid twenties. So tonight Sam darnold gonna play and Sam darnold. Gonna struggle because Cleveland has real defensive players when you're bad for a long time and you draft a defensive side. Well, you got good players and the jets, their defense isn't bad, but offensively they have nothing outside of darnold, offensive line bought him to in the league running backs could be the worst tight ends. Absolutely the worst wide receivers, little talent, kind of flaky guys get hurt, have problems. Okay. Not great at times depending on health, pretty bad, Sam darnold gonna struggle tonight. Short week in Cleveland, rookie quarterback, but the jets are telling you, we think he's physically and emotionally capable of it, and that's the win Carson. Wentz. Nobody would deny has been an a plus draft pick. He's a stud. He plays this week. He's a stud and they just threw Carson Wentz out there. That's all I needed to know from Doug Peterson Howie Roseman they had somebody else who'd played in the. NFL they traded him. The jets had teddy Bridgewater and they traded him. Carson Wentz by the way like Sam darnold had an amazing maze ING first game. And then in Carson Wentz rookie years from weeks, four to fourteen. He was two and nine at way more picks than touchdowns in his passer rating was terrible. It was like seventy two Carson Wentz his rookie year. He had a couple of great weeks. Eight went into the toilet, but they didn't pull them anywhere, never worried and that's for eight plus quarterback against Minnesota fifty, two passer rating to picks against Cincinnati three picks and a fifty eight passer rating, and he's an a plus guy, and he was awful in a couple of those early games and so was Andrew luck with the colts. He was awful in fam- darnold tonight. And next week against Jacksonville has an opportunity he could be off. Awful short week on the road Browns defense. But the jets would darnold and the eagles with wins and the colts with luck. They're telling you, we trust our kids. When I look at these young quarterbacks, the coaching staffs, tell me what they think of the player. I don't have to watch practices with Carson Wentz. I don't have to watch practices with Andrew luck. I don't have to watch practices with Sam darnold Sam darnold gonna struggle tonight. But with he luck and wins. The staff is telling you, we had a veteran in house now he can not only physically handle it. He can mentally if he struggles hamlet, that's all I need to know. All I need to know about Sam darnold. Let me shift to this Jon Gruden, Stephan it again. Anybody listening to my show today to ever been a waitress or a waiter in your life. Anybody listening to me, I worked in a restaurant as a kid that you joy. I worked in many restaurant. Okay. So if you go to a restaurant after you quit doing that, so you're a waiter, a waitress in your teens, early twenties, and then you go do other stuff, joy did that and did not stuff. What happens is every time you go to a restaurant after that you still when you're done with the meal, clean the table up for the waiter waitress. It's their pre busing you pre bus, right? You kind of clean the table up for them because it's sort of hard to turn that off. It's in you and it was in new for eight to ten years. So Jon Gruden yesterday once again stepped in it, he was asked a question about a pass, rush, and Jon Gruden gave a long answer and this avenue and that exit and started talking and kept talking here. It is hard to find a great. It's hard to find a good one is hard to. You just said it and you know, college football now, they're not really dropping back to pass thrown football's anymore. They're throwing laterals and they're throwing bubble screens, and they're running read options. So you gotta train these guys. It takes a little bit of time to to learn how to rush the pastor and. We got some guys that are in that process right now. That could have been a very quick answer. Jon Gruden did not have to give that Longman answer because that answer became the story yesterday in the NFL, hey, coach, you had a great one. Yeah, let him go..

"Take a day off. Wake up Tuesday morning, come to brag this ready to go. Sam darnold gonna struggle tonight. But with he luck and wins. Let me shift to this Jon Gruden, Stephan it again. Anybody listening to my show today that's ever been a waitress or a waiter in your life. Anybody listening to me, I worked in a restaurant as a kid that you joy. I worked in many restaurant. Okay. Let's say you've ever been a waiter or a waitress in your life. What often happens? You can sympathize with them, you kind of get into the cycle of it. So if you go to a restaurant after you quit doing that, so you're a waiter, a waitress in your teens, early twenties, and then you go do other stuff, joy did that and didn't utter stuff. What happens is every time you go to a restaurant after that you still when you're done the meal, clean the table for the waiter or the waitress, it's their pre busing. Jon Gruden did not have to give that Longman answer because that answer became the story yesterday and the NFL, hey, coach, you had a great one. Yeah, let him go. But when you hire a TV analyst, who for ten years is a performer, like joy was a waitress for a decade when joy goes to the restaurant after quitting waitressing. She starts pre bussing because it's hard to turn that off forever. Jon Gruden for a decade was. A TV performer. You don't mumble. You don't give short answers. You explain. You define you give long enters and it's hard to turn that off. He is still got television analysts in him and he keeps stepping in it because he believes he has to give a TV answer. No, no, no. Bill Belichick yesterday was asked a question about a book about him. It's got all sorts of juicy details. It's a biography on Bill Belichick. It's that talk of the NFL, but bills never been a TV analyst and would probably be a lousy one and felt no need to perform for the media. The news coming out this month fitting dissipate. Sure. Is. Because I don't have anything to do. Focus right now in Detroit, two thousand eighteen football season, like charge of the job on. The football coach who's been up performer is still performing, and this is why always had questions about Jon Gruden. He's not just a football coach. He's a television star, and he was damned good. And you can't just turn off. Once you've been a waiter or waitress for a decade. Go to a restaurant. You can't turn it off. You always have sympathy for the waiter sympathy for the busboy sympathy for the waitress, and you start pre-cleaning. By the way I worked in a restaurant is a kid for a long time. My kids make fun of me. I'm a pre cleaner because I've been in those restaurants. I've moved the salt back to where it should be, and I start stacking things and I wiped the table down on the kids are like, oh, dad, but my kids have never worked in restaurants. Jon Gruden was hired as a TV star. He's a football coach. Now. But he is struggling to turn off the TV star performer Bella check who's never been one. Here's the question. He turned it on mute. No reason to give the media an inch..

"Taylor is joining me here on a thirsty Thursday night games this year. They're better games. Tonight's game is huge. Tonight's games. Fascinating. I mean, it's the Browns and the jets the NBA equivalent of that is the Brooklyn nets and the Orlando Magic. But in the NFL rookies matter rookies avenue impact, especially if they're playing quarterback. So let me start right here on tonight's game. You know, as a parent, nobody wants to be seen as a bad parent. And I mean, right, it's like that's what people judge you on years later. Not how much made not what you did, what are your kids turn out to be like? And if your kids are schmucks your views schmuck, and I don't know how good I am as a parent, but I've always thought a really important thing is the amount of responsibility I can give. My kids at an early age will sort of be the grading system. If at twenty seven years old, I'm still doing my son's laundry. I failed as a parent if at twenty six years old, I don't trust my daughter to go to Europe with a friend by herself failed as a parent. I don't know necessarily what makes a great parent, a bad parent, but holding their hand. I know. No doesn't create a strong independent kid, and that's what we're all trying to create. They can do things for themselves. They don't need mommy and daddy in their mid twenties. So tonight Sam darnold gonna play and Sam darnold gonna struggle because Cleveland has real defensive players when you're bad for a long time and you draft the defensive side, well, you good players and the jets, their defense isn't bad, but offensively they have nothing outside of darnold, offensive. Line bottom to in the league running backs could be the worst tight ends. Absolutely the worst wide receivers, little talent, kind of flaky guys get hurt, have problems. Okay. Against Minnesota fifty, two passer rating two picks against Cincinnati, three picks and a fifty eight passer rating, and he's an a plus guy, and he was awful in a couple of those early games. And so was Andrew luck with a colts. He was awful in Sam darnold tonight. And next week against Jacksonville has an opportunity. He could be awful short week on the road Browns defense. But the jets would darnold and the eagles with wins, and the Colt with luck, they're telling you, we trust our kids, the eagles had Sam, Bradford traded him away. The colts had Peyton Manning moved off him. The jets had teddy Bridgewater, so good drew Brees sees him as the next Sean Payton sees as the next drew Brees. So when I look at these young quarterbacks, the coaching staffs, tell me what they think of the player. I don't have to watch practices with Carson Wentz. I don't have to watch practices with Andrew luck. I don't have to watch practices with Sam darnold. If you have a quarterback, you could go to Peyton Manning Sam, Bradford teddy Bridgewater and you move off him and you're willing to let them play rookie year knowing they're going to be completely over their head, not just physically you trust Sam darnold tonight and against Jacksonville to go into a game, get sacked six times jets aligns awful, awful pro football focus ranks it like thirty first in the league that you trust Carson Wentz to get the you-know-what kicked out of him and you're like, oh, he's he's a tough kid. He'll go hunt and fish the following day..

"Darnold on a third in two of the Detroit. Darnold pump that he's got time. Darnold, watches, a towards the. Oh. Touchdown jets. Sam darnold delivers late in the second quarter. Westwood One on the call as heard right here on Xtra sports thirteen hundred Sam darnold had quite the evening auspicious starts through a pick. I don't know who called the play action bootleg throwback for a twenty one year old playing in his first NFL game. But whatevs. The important thing is after that Sam darnold was lights out. And not only does he go to show that Sam darnold is going to be the best quarterback of this draft. That people feel like is a pretty good draft for quarterbacks. But if fortifies my long held belief that you start these high first round picks. Quickly. I mean, maybe it's not game one. But within the first month you guys get these guys out on the field. If you have a brutal start to the schedule then. Okay. Bye. You got you needed? Start the clock on these guys. Because that's just the way quarterbacking is if you spend a high pick, you get those guys in sooner rather than later, and I just think if you're the car knows if you're the bills if you're the Browns you get your guys out in the field. Because what I saw from the bills the Browns and the cardinals. I promise you Rosen Mayfield and Allen could perform just as good as Theron Peterman and Bradford. None of those three guys were especially good. And I all three of those teams didn't fare, especially. Well, so. We talked yesterday about the Broncos. A win is a win is a win. A loss is a loss is a loss, which you prefer to get a little something out of it by getting your rookie quarterback more experience. I I give Sean McDermott credit for putting in Josh Allen. On sunday. Gimme Lisa little run. The mistake. Was you just didn't start with him? Star with Peterman any gain destroyed the bills. What they see in that guy. I still have no idea but darnold shows. One he's superior to his peers in this draft. But also just get these guys going get them going. You look your professional football team. Some are worse than others. But arguably no team was worse than Sam darnold team and week. One went pretty well. Two eight six zero zero four six if you want to weigh in on any of the three stories that are driving the show,.

"He plays a little fast and loose. So it was absolutely perfect that he threw a pick six to start his career. It was perfect because then it allowed you to see the Sam darnold. I know. From that point forty at a quarterback rating of one forty one. Here's a kid youngest quarterback to ever start week one in the NFL on the road Monday night football against a former number one, pick Matt Stafford and coach, Matt, Patricia, who's helped guide along with ballot check and Brady those patriots to win after win after win, ever is a lot to be nervous about and after Sam darnold through that pick, he was sixteen twenty two touchdowns no picks and a passer rating at one forty one. And that is the Sam darnold. I saw four years ago to UC practice, and I came out the very next day in the air. And I said, folks, we got another Andrew luck. I just saw him for the first time. He's eighteen an Andrew lucked by the way, doesn't have the world's greatest arms. Andrew luck by the way, throws pick sixes and it's going gonna, throw more SAM's gonna, throw more of those. Brett farve had twenty nine interceptions in what is fifteenth year. Remember Brett farve last memo. Memorable pass through across his body picked off, ruined the Vikings chance to get to a Super Bowl. After the game last night, Darren, Lee, quote, dude, smooth under pressure doesn't get rattled. We were worried whatsoever. He needed to throw that pick six and it was all his fault. By the way, it was nobody else's phone. It was a hundred percent Sam darnold fault, and I've seen him do that at USC and I saw him do it last night and you're going to see him do it again. And as far in his eighteenth year, Andrew luck, he'll be doing it the rest of his career, but there's instincts and you can't coach him and there's something called maturity and leadership and dude, qualities. "That's that's. That's a very, very difficult question. I believe that it would be hard to distinguish between teddy Bridgewater and what he can do with the team given all the experience that he has had and say, okay, you know something Sam darnold after four weeks of training camp, he's better than teddy Bridgewater. Teddy's played too much football. Tennis played in playoff games. He started too much. He has been the face of a franchise. He was offense of rookie of the year. So I wouldn't say I, it's not a fair question at this point because teddy should be better. And we number three, if if people were being honest, that's what they were say. But typically, this is not about being honest. This is about being okay, where is our future lie? Who are we paying money who have we put draft capital into teddy, don't have hardly any guaranteed money, half a million bucks. Okay. Sam got a bunch of games, so people sometime see what they want to see if the. Answer to that question was Sam darnold right now then Teddy's no longer in NFL starting quarterback, right? I if after five, if if a rookie who's been there as you mentioned one, even there at the very beginning camp has played two preseason games has already better. This moment that means teddy Bridgewater career after the injury would have gone off the rails and teddy actually looks. He took a bad hit in the back of his leg yesterday, pop right back up. There's a lot of good signs of teddy Bridgewater where they may be could trade him and get something in return for him. I'm more interested in this question which is what gives Sam darnold the best chance to be the best Sam darnold long-term? Is it sitting and watching for a few weeks Baker Mayfield almost assuredly is going to, or is it being thrown into the fire with a team that we saw it yesterday, no matter who's playing quarterback, their offense of line is bad. They're wide receivers are challenged. The their running game is limited. Like what is the? Because what really matters. More for the jets this year. Then if they're going to go three and thirteen or six and ten, what matters for them is what makes us to where at the end of this season, he's AM darnold books, like the guy that we thought it was going into his last year at USC what people thought it was going into the draft. And that's the question I think that's most important for that coaching staff dancer, see and for them to have a discussion with ownership about which is we need to figure out what puts darnold in the best position long-term. Do we have the personnel where it's fair to have him start week one, even though we drafted him hoping he would start week one? Yeah. I think a lot of these questions have been answered this summer's far as what he could retain from an information standpoint. What we get called up in analyzing his fans is we think that everything's the same buffalo situations the same Cleveland situation, Arizona. All these things are not the same in how ownership and how the front office look at them is very, very different. Oddly the front office and the coaching staff believe Sam. Darnold going to start week number one. And that's what I expect to see. Thank you for listening to the first things. "Baker mayfield with top pick and you know it's interesting because for the longest time sam darnold was paired with the browns which you know made sense and i disobeyed it made sense for cleveland to go get tyrod taylor giving up that first pick in the third round you know a high price but you're going to get a guy you know that your bridge quarterback but now you in not sam darnold speaker mayfield and so that quarterback competition just got really interesting because i thought all along most of us were thinking whether it was josh allen sam darnold you know it was going to be tyrod taylor started for the browns this year while the other quarterback sat and learned and you bring them along at his own pace but now baker mayfield he's not gonna go to cleveland thinking okay well i you know i can take my time and learn and you know i don't have to worry about getting on the field he's gonna wanna try and win that job right away immediately this is not a player that likes to sit and watch why he transferred from texas tech and walked onto it oklahoma so he's going to get tyrod taylor a run for his money and training camp it's gonna be a fun quarterback battle to watch next august and then into september daybreak joining us on the show so like a guy like shaquille griffin and he waits until day three to go did you always have him as a day three prospect because i know that right after the after the combine everything he kind of shot up for the media's standpoint to be as the starter you bring them in the package situation let them bliss let them cover let them drop you know let them show off that range and that boater and then of course on special teams i think he's gonna be outstanding in that area just probably won't be a starter for you and that's okay i mean he can still have a big impact on your football team i was surprised he fell out of the fourth i thought it was more likely we would hear his name pretty quickly on day three.

"Or whoever whoever was and he was kind of matt hasselbeck at the end like hey i'll just help your rookie drafted will that that position doesn't exist in the nfl like fullback to have josh mccowan to teach sam darnold is such a gift huge it's huge in look he's going to grow by leaps and bounds of it now he's also got to work on his on his protecting the football that's a huge thing it is a real weakness it isn't in the there's only been one dave craig where every time you get hit in the pocket he fumble right and so we got fire narrowness zona too to you know so i understand but that's going to be a big concern but that is for every every quarterback that comes into national football i remember brady working on it like crazy in new england and it's so important he's gonna have to learn that then he's also gonna have to learn how to work on his mechanics he's a young guys only played a couple of years of college football yeah i mean so i think the jets did a great job of getting this guy by the way the cowboys go out everybody wanted him to take the wide receiver and i said this earlier i was in chargers room last night how the fans in the media view receivers isn't how teams teams think of wide receivers as i can get him anywhere but they go out and get a linebacker who is a forty inch vertical almost urlacher mystery like nobody's got video on him it's like one ballgame at boise and everybody's knocking the cowboys but i'm like everybody wanted him to take johnny manziel took zack martin like i think there is something to be said i did the the cowboys obviously said we got.

"Kinda just learn from him and just go to the next nap do you think this was a guy darnold and he's not going to be twenty one until june that could've used another year in college or do you think these same problems probably would have followed him to the draft next season yeah i mean at some point there's only so much coach even the college level i mean what's interesting with darnold his process is so different even from high school than josh rosen right and if we can talk about in coming out of the same state josh rosen was the top high school recruit coming out of college meanwhile believe and i'm not big into high school recruiting but same darnold is was like a three star recruit and actually guys played linebacker i believe until his junior year of so it's not like he's spent again a longtime at this position he reminds me a lot of tony romo again and how he moves and matt waldman use this term but he has like a gator done mentality at the quarterback position all these things can go crazy and again it's it's probably because he hasn't spent a lot of time at quarterback but once it leaves his hands it's beautiful as just a linebacker playing quarterback he's a football player we're gonna hear that nobody's coming to lamar jackson catching he'd how come nobody's coming after darnold that he should be a linebacker like what's that about guys there's actually a linebacker slash quarterback prospect in this class landing out of iowa state and was listed at both positions but he's just bad at both so we don't outside.

"Death threats maybe that was the wrong example but sam darnold we go back to it right if he starts in week one which he wanted to goes the browns or any other team really then he'll be the youngest player ever to do so at quarterback is easy but but there are as you mentioned i mean he he turned the football over or put it on the ground like twenty five times twelve fumbles thirteen interceptions only lost nine simple but still putting on the ground is what matters but it it it's one of those pieces of clay that a team thinks that they can coach up right believing in your own coaches and i guess i could see that he has a higher ceiling than josh rosen who is a what you see is what you get type play in play out meanwhile darnold is kind of all over the place and create some big big plays out of absolutely nothing because he does combine mobility with a canaan for an arm you don't even have them in the top twenty so you don't think josh rosen and sam darnold are close by that you know evaluation rosen as your number one player i'm looking at your big board on rota world dot com people can check it out and darnold is your number two quarterback but you have twenty one overall kind of in a cluster with mayfield and lamar jackson so that's putting rosen on a totally different level i'm guessing is that you just think darnold has a much bigger sort of boom bust potential and just to give it a little more context with josh what you get the twenty one on josh big board you don't even get a blurb anymore.

"Darnold l they may be playing games they could actually try to extract another draft pick from the giants just to move up a spot who knows i mean there's so much there's so many games being played right now in the media as the you know who you want who you really want but has has them sitting with his parents sam darnold parents is that playing games in the media i would hate to have that happen to me if our sam darnold and the owner is reaching out to my parents i hate that but here's the other thing you know if you're sitting there and you're the browns you got and i think dorsey is a smart gm i think he's an old school gm and i think he's going to get what he wants this all of this stuff is is amazing to me because all four quarterbacks at the top of this draft our garnering a lot of interest there are private workouts all over the place today is josh allens pro workout at wyoming i think it's alarming yes so and you also have all these other private workouts going on yet and because of that bad year last year we didn't have to give him a contract like the alan robinson even though he was coming off an injury like some of these other contracts that we saw because it was such a terrible year for him so i really think that this is a deal it's gonna pay off for them they desperately desperately needed a playmaker at the wide receiver position.
