"This is good. I'm glad that he's going to be going forward here. And I think the the numbers are just fine. So I don't think any like I think any other fan could see that the same or the opposite way. I mean just differently, but I like that he's staying. Definitely I think And you know what? When he and Darlene got put together, I'm like, what are you doing? I mean, right now, they at that point, they were both struggling mightily. Neither one looks good. And it turned out to be the right thing to do. I mean, I thought they helped each other. I thought that complemented each other's games. And but I never would have guessed that they would work together like that and and and to make it work the way they had been playing. But again, that's Granado saw that. I think Dan Girardi Also did a nice job with those to a guy that just been out of the league since 2000 and 19 and Darlene talked a little bit about that, that you know, he really kind of related to Girardi could talk to him. He's played against him. I mean, one of the few guys Coaches that he would have played against and really, you know, he'd been through a little what Dolly is a different type of defenseman but still have been through situations and really help those two along so Yeah, I I like that parallel, and I agree with you. I think that was that was, you know, you know, I think he's going to be a good defenseman for years to come for this hockey team. Paul one more on the sabers. I thought it was taken aback by this, uh Corey Prod Hman rating. The pipeline or the pipelines of each NHL team put the Sabres at the very top of the league number one. I don't really, you know, I'm not asking you to judge his work. I just wonder like is that something you could defend or like, Does that maybe sort of seem I don't know what you would say. Like I haven't thought of the Sabres being just quite that deep or or prolific yet in terms of their their system. A lot of what they have is here. I mean, cousins, Darlene Yoki. Who are you? Um, if you Oleson and Thompson if you want that, um so a lot of that is already here now. Yes, Jack Quinn, I think could be of is definitely a guy that As promised. I think of course, Lou Cannon and goal I think could be a very, very good goaltender for them. There's other guys like Bryson and Samuelsson, who I think can come on and be good players for them. As they move along. JJ Piturca is a guy that is signed. That has done very well, you know, over overseas and coming over and as somebody they're looking at LAX. Idan was rookie of the year for the division in Rochester. On defense, So Yeah, There are some guys but yeah, I would be just as surprised. It's again. Are you counting? Darlene? Are you talking? Yoki? How are you? You're counting cousins? I mean, if you're counting those guys, all right, maybe I can somewhat get there, but, uh, those guys are already in the league. So if you're not counting them, Yeah, I'd be surprised. Right, Paul Big weekend ahead or what? Labor Day weekend. Here it is. Yeah. No. You know, I've got visiting some friends and, uh, I was asked to be a judge at the chicken wing. Fast over. Uh, Over at the stadium. So do that on Sunday, and I think again have be with friends on Monday, so Just being out and about and seeing some people and should be.

"Solid trade. But throwing in the 14th overall pick. And the second rounder and hag. I think I think Buffalo completely knocked it out of the park, 100% and now, Sam, who again? Has won. He doesn't have a contract yet. He's a restricted free agent. He has one more year until he's unrestricted. Um, could he be a one year rental for Florida? Or Could he be a long term contract signing for Florida? Um My my eyebrows raised when I talked and and said that we we acquired, Um you know Devin Levi and I. The first thing I said, is who the heck is Devin Levi? Never, ever heard of this kid. And then all of a sudden, apparently, Yes, I have heard about this kid because he's the one who was lights out for Canada. At the World Junior championships, and he was He was the reason why Canada won the gold medal. Um, played exceptionally well. You needed to get a goalie somewhere and something one of these deals, but okay, go ahead. Yeah, And you know what he is, Um, From what I have gathered in and the people that I've talked to I had I I know a person. I know a young man that played with, uh, Devon lead by and I asked him. I said, How good is he and he he was like This kid. Is insane. Like, what does that mean? Yeah, I would say. What does that mean? Like you're a young guy Like you know what is insane. He goes this kid. 1000% will be playing in the NHL. He goes. He will be a number one in the NHL. But did you not expect a player to put in the roster in return for Sam? That's what I was expecting. Yeah, That's what I was. I expected a higher First round draft pick. And what we're going to get next year, because guess what? Florida is going to be a top team in a league next year. They will be they will be minimum. And I mean minimum Top 10. Do we agree on that? I don't. I don't see how they were this year, absolutely their fifth overall in the league last year. At one point they literally for 36 games this year was the first one was the best team in the league. So for me, I think that Florida has gotten better without question by adding Sam Reinhart. He is a very good hockey player. They're a team that have bided their time They developed their young players. They feel that they're at a position. Where they can compete. So they went and made a move for Sam Reinhart and they he is going to make them significantly better. And I believe that Sam Ryan hurt will put that team Along with what they already have in the lineup. You're you're going to be sitting Probably in it with the top five team in the National Hockey League. Landslides for the first round draft pick land slice of ski tweets out, he's told the Sabres of extended qualifying offers to all but two of their restricted free agents. Stefanos Luckiest Dawson, D P. A. Trow Buffaloes. Arfa's to receive queue woes are aspirin, Middle stat. Darlene Yoki, Hangzhou and Fitzgerald. And when we come back, we'll talk a little bit about Devin Levi. What's next for Jack Eichel? And you can tweet us at the instigators. We want to know your thoughts on everything that took place over the weekend or you can give us a call. 80305 58 85 52 5 50 own power and our number two shortly after 11 30, I would expect And a lot more to come here on the instigators. What's happening with Jack? He's.

"It starts in nine minutes. I do want to get to some Josh Allen contract talk today because I've had thoughts on my mind about it really that I'm sure have gotten out a little bit over the course of the off season, but they've been stewing in my brain for five days now, really? Ever since I went on vacation, My mom lives out in Phoenix, Arizona, went there over the weekend. And it even on like the flights. I'm like thinking about like, I wish I had a microphone in front of me right now about Josh Allen's contract because I believe I'm flying in the other direction than most. On what the bills should do, so I want to get to that. But First I got to get the Sabres out of the way. Because they've really And A lot of my thoughts today. Ran through on cap friendly, A Seattle crackin expansion draft simulator. Cap friendly has it on their the interactive section. You can go do it yourself. You want and The Sabres. Have. I think the such an easy decision to make such an easy decision talked a lot about this last night, but they have such an easy decision. The forward group should be decided. It should be easily decided. Michael Reinhardt. We've got Got to go back to hold on. Go back to the Sabres on my my little pager. Michael Reinhardt, Olofsson, Byork Thompson Middle stat. Aspirin that is easy. Don't protect Girgensons. That's like the only guy I would be afraid that they would protect. But I'd like to believe that they're not going to do that. And then the blue line, Darlene Yoki Har, you will bargain. Crystalline is gone. A year, and it's time to allow him to move on. He's wanted to move on. And I honestly I didn't get this thought out yesterday. I'm not sure Seattle would even take him. Maybe they would just to get something in terms of a trade. But Rastus wrist align in has been in this league for almost a decade. He's been through more losing than Jack Eichel, who's frustrated, and Sam Reinhart, who's frustrated. He's been here three years longer than those guys. The crack in if you look like my mark that I did. And if you want to look at like that, they're Seattle Times has one. There's a bunch of different projections that you can look at. McCracken's team is gonna stink. It's gonna be really bad. I mean, the best I could do for them was like having Alex Kerfoot is their second line center Chris Tierney, Ryan Donato Ryan Graves on their top defense pair. Vince, Don Chris Dredger as their goaltender. I mean, Vitek, Venice, check as there back of the Mike Hoffman. Tyler Johnson like they're not. This is not going to be Vegas, Vegas was an anomaly. It was a complete anomaly. A bunch of dumb general managers in the league. Especially in Florida. Just outright handed the Golden Knights their first line for years to come. Letting guys go. That had lots of upside were young and gave Vegas way too much to work with. And I think lessons will be learned on that front. Maybe there won't be as many side deals. But I think the teams are going to get smarter about it. This go around, and every time I go through the crack, and they look like they're going to be one of the worst teams in the league. And why would Rast mistrust align and want to resign there? And that might be what causes Seattle to not take him. I wonder if the sabers I think they should It would be in their own benefit to do this. Let Ron Francis and Jason Botterill talk to risk the linen. Let them ask him. Hey! If we take you in the expansion draft. Are you gonna resign here? Because they're going to get or no That guy is gonna want to win. He's going to want to go to a contender. He's not been near that in his entire career, and he has spoken about that at length on multiple occasions. The guy's not played an important hockey game since he scored the Golden goal to win the World juniors when he was a teenager. The crack in they're going to stink. He's not going to sign there. So if the crack in know that and they want to go another direction, maybe they see Girgensons as a guy that can be a bottom six player for them for a few years that they want to go more long term on that front. Maybe if they want more cap flexibility, even Colin Miller might be someone that they feel like that's more likely to resign there. I think risk The lining is still Good option for them, Even if he tells you up front. Hey, Seattle. I'm not signing with you. You probably should take crystal line and then trade him. You're the cracking, that's your best option from the Sabres. So Seattle will have a decision to make if the Sabres exposed Resto, but the sabers don't have a decision here. But it's Morgan. It's bargain all day. Long. Easy. It's easy decision. You do not choose a few months more of wrist align in hockey. Over a guy that, hey, he might never become anything in the NHL and Wilberger. He's played only a few games, and he's looked pretty good, but its own. I could count. How many games on one hand? And he's 24. Long development track for this guy. Maybe he doesn't become anything but you've got to find out. There's no long term upside to hanging on to restore line in You take whatever you can for him in a trade if somebody wants to do that before next Wednesday Or you expose them and you hope that they don't take him so that you can continue to have that trade asset, But That is where I am viewing the expansion draft at this point. And running through Seattle today on cap friendly and seeing how bad the roster is going to be. Jared McCann on their first line is what I had Logan Stanley on their second pair. Carson, Susie..

Tyler Johnson Alex Kerfoot Sam Reinhart Jack Eichel Colin Miller Michael Reinhardt Jared McCann Ron Francis Chris Tierney Jason Botterill Ryan Donato Darlene Yoki Har Susie Josh Allen Carson Don Chris Dredger Vince Byork Thompson Golden Knights Olofsson

"Nothing else comes close. Alright, so stick around later in the show. Probably the last segment. I got some fun things for Things that Craig won't care about. Got some really good ones. I think that might get some good reaction out of him. So we'll do that at like 11 times that, Craig what times our last segment Mhm. No clue, do you five years We've been of the debt last segment of the day. The last segment of this segment. Of course, Last segment of the day 11 50. Good guess. Yeah, You're right. Okay, um so at 11 50 will do it all right things that Craig Mayor may not care about that go on in the world today as we see it. Find things we don't get serious about it. So Rasmus for Selena, let's get serious about him. Let's get serious about the expansion draft for a minute because I think a lot of people are afraid of losing Rasmus aspirin in the expansion draft, but I'm more afraid of losing will bargain. Um I asked you about a market for Risto after the Duncan Keith deal. I don't even know if that's even Conversation in the same sentence or not, but Uh, But I guess What's going to happen with Risto, you know, you know, we're sitting here and Duncan Keith gets traded. We got the expansion draft coming up. I'm curious to know one uh, whether or not the Sabres Would even protect him or not. Would you rather lose a resto in the expansion draft than a will bargain? Oh, okay. I just had to think about that for a second, which I shouldn't had. Listen, Wilbur organ is certainly someone that we want to keep on this hockey team. Number one number one. Um, He's exactly the type of defenseman that we need on this team moving forward. He's a He's a great size. He plays defense first. He's a very good skater. He's physical. He'll add team toughness. He's hungry. He's a good kid. He's hungry kid that wants an opportunity to play regularly in the National Hockey League. And the best part about it is, uh, when you talk will bargain. Cost certainty. He is sitting right now. That is, uh Um, We're not paying them big money to play on our hockey team. And I think that, uh, he is going to be a really, really good edition, and he's someone that we cannot lose. So how would you feel then? If the Sabres were to leave Resto unprotected And would Seattle even take him? Do you think Mm. It? Well, it depends on who's available on the forward line. Um Think Risto, if he is left unprotected is is going to be a very interesting pick up because he is a he's a top end. Um, minute Eater defenseman in the National Hockey League that those are defenseman that typically do not come available unless a teams in dire straits I think that it'll be It'll be interesting. I I think that first and foremost you need to protect Darlene Yoki hire you and will bargain because that isn't going to be part of our future moving forward. I don't believe that Rasmus Wrist alignment is going to be long term future. Um, he's He's what 26 years old. He has one year left on his contract. And he's gone after this. Well, if he's hero, and I mean minus chance that he will ever signed an extension with the Buffalo Sabres. I don't care if we're first overall in the league next year, he won't sign here. He he needs change. He needs a change. There's no question about it. Um, And you said you said something at the break that I think has a lot to do with that is that people here love to hate him, And I think he senses that and feels that and I'd want out of here, too. If I were him. Yeah, He's the way he's been treated and spoken about the way he's been treated and spoken about in this town about his hockey playing ability. I'd want to be on the first ship out of here, too. Yeah, I mean, um Rasmus risk. The line in has been here in Buffalo for eight years he's given in those eight years. He is given 100% of his effort. Has that effort translated into wins with the Sabres. Has it translated in, um You know, for him helping guide this team in the right direction. It's translated to nothing but headache for him. Yes, and and it's not from him, not giving Everything that he can each and every night he is no people. People often criticize you and I number this course e number crap that we sit here and we talk about all the time. Rasmus first alignment has been put like you. You can You can really, really, really help certain hockey players by putting them in favorable situations for these course. The analytic numbers. Um I like the numbers. I'm not saying that I would. I do not like analytics. I do like the analytics. I like. I like using everything possible to try and make the best decisions that you can comes down to watching the player in the end. Well, it comes down to watching the player. It comes down to knowing the person it comes down to putting the players in in in good positions or putting the players in really tough positions. And I think Rasmus risk the line and For a number of years there was playing. He was one of the top defenseman in the league playing, you know, eating all these minutes, but he was also playing on the worst team in the league. The other guys were Duncan Keith playing on the Chicago Blackhawks that were, you know, You know, working towards the Stanley Cup and Christian not hang, and there were no favors done for him. There was no Sabres favor. There's no favors done for him, and he's a great He's a He's not a great defense. These are really solid defenseman and if we move him and move on from him We're gonna be looking for a defenseman just like him. Are we going to be upset if we lost him for free in the expansion draft? Listen, I mean, Yes or no, It's a yes or no, It's going to be a no. Going to be a strong No, I don't think the Sabres Right now..

Buffalo Sabres Darlene Yoki Chicago Blackhawks 100% 26 years Buffalo Risto eight years Christian 11 times next year Craig National Hockey League Selena Rasmus Stanley Cup Craig Mayor five years Duncan Keith first ship

"Else comes close. I can't wait to talk about Nikita Kucherov in his press conference and the shirts and the beers and everything. We'll talk about that a little bit later. That'll be a fun conversation. Is this the new way to act when we win? That's the topic. We'll know. Look around. I don't know. I don't know why you guys got to go in guys got to go and rain on it right now, just in rain on the Stanley Cup parade. Just enjoy the fact that I'm trying to set up a conversation for later on. Okay. He's trying to set up something for a little later and we're strange just to set a teaser for later on. You guys want to set something up for like a little later? On What time? I don't know. I don't know. 11 something Have after you after curfew, curfews at 11, so we'll do it like 11 05. So Craig brought up a while Cry. I brought up the topic. I'll pat myself on the back. But Craig wants to have a bigger topic about it. And it is it is worthy of a bigger conversation. So Tomorrow is the deadline to ask players to waive their no move clause is for the expansion draft. Specifically John Vogel this morning, um, tweeted out, he said the Sabres have not asked Jeff Skinner to wave as no move clause for the expansion draft. Agent Dawn me and tells the athletic buffalo So, Craig, What are your thoughts on that? Um, should should, Marty, did you want to say something quickly Because I was saying something for the break. And I like just want to finish my thought. Because I never got there because we decided to have heard it all over again. Marty, and then no. Will reply. So 40 expansion draft. You either have to protect seven Fords three defenseman 11 goalie, Or you can go eight players, regardless of the position and one goalie. And I think this is where Okay, So if you want to go 73 and one this year, you don't have to ask Jeff Skinner the permission to wave There's no movement clauses because you don't really need it that the 74 is that you're going to protect are going to be I call Skinner, Ryan Art Olofsson Thompson Middle Stat. And I got six and I have to pick 1/7 1. I'm picking either Anders Byork Erasmus Aspelin so having to ask Skinner To possibly move to wave is no move clause. Is that necessary to cause more issues. You're hoping Skinner can be a good player, not 40 goals, but maybe he can get you're 25. You're hoping to build that relationship back up. So why go and ask him? If you don't need it, I don't care and no disrespect to byork or aspirin as a player, But I don't care if I lose under his br If we decide to protect aspirin, I don't care if we protect Byork and we lose aspirin. It's just one player. That's fine. Now. Here comes the trick. If you protect seven Ford, you have to only protect three defenseman, which means You have to leave one of those unprotected risk The line in your key. Are you orb organ? We assume Dalian's protected right now, if you decide to go eight players Then it gets tricky. And this is where I think Now you may have to ask Jeff Skinner to wave is no movement clause because if you go that route, and you protect four players Four defenseman Resto Darling. You okay? Are you in Morgan? You can only protect four forwards. I call Reinhardt Olofsson. Let's not assume as Skinner would be protected if they ask them to waive his no movement, and then you have to pick one of Thompson are middle stat. So that's where he gets tricky and that's where you would need them. The wave is no movement class. To be able to protect one of middle stat are Thompson in my opinion? Thank you for that, Marty. We are all now Dumber. And May God have mercy on your soul. You love to use that. I love that. I haven't used that one in a really long time For those of you that moving a long time. That's a Billy Madison reference but know very, very well, said Marty. I was joking when I said that. Craig. What's your response to that? Does Jeff Skinner need to wave his no move clause to help the Sabres out or no? 1000% you think I'm worried about Jeff Skinner's feelings? Hogwash. Tell him to go lift some weights and get to the track. That's number one with Jeff Skinner. Okay, He needs to come back and have a year and it's going to start by being in good shape this year. Okay? That's number one, so I'm not worried about his feelings. There is not a chance. Ever. That Seattle will pick him Never So how do you even if the Sabres picked up three million of his salary, Why would we utilize One of why would you be okay with losing a Rasmus Aspelin, Who's what 22 years old right now. Who played exceptionally well. With middle stat and th Thompson. Why are you okay with just losing and Anders Byork? These are these are we They may not be on our team. But we still can use them as pieces as pawns to make this team better. Because right now, I don't think you want to lose either one of those guys, So let's look at it this way. If you're going to go 73 in one You're going to protect Michael Reinhardt. All of sin, Middle stat. Thompson, Aspelin and Byork. Yeah, Okay, ribs. Let me just give you a second here because it doesn't matter in the forward. If you go 73 and one who are your three defenseman you're protecting. I'm protecting Darlene Yoki hire you and will bargain. Okay, So who do you think that Skinner gets protected or not? Who do you think Seattle would pick? If You have risked a lying in available Yep. And either BYORK or or aspirin available, which one they're picking. I'm sorry. Say that again. You get to pick Rasmus, Mr Lyon in and there's byork Erasmus Aspirin, Which one of these three in Seattle picking Can I guess, too, I say Resto. And they're picking Bristol. No, You're not picking rest. They're picking restore 100 breast. Oh, no, They're not. They don't have to give anybody for him. They're picking. Restore 100% crystal went up. Why do you say that? He's $5 million defenseman like him that I don't like. I want to Sabres to train them to get value out of them. But there's there's teams that want him and if he's available for free, if you think that the team like New Jersey would give Miles would for restore. Why wouldn't Seattle take them for free? If New Jersey would give Miles would Harassment crystalline and the deal would have been done already. I understand that, but it doesn't matter if we still get to a second round pick. Why wouldn't Seattle.

Michael Reinhardt Nikita Kucherov Jeff Skinner Reinhardt Olofsson John Vogel Aspelin Darlene Yoki Anders Byork $5 million Marty 100% Rasmus Aspelin Lyon Billy Madison Rasmus 22 years 25 Skinner one Tomorrow

"Type of player who this year in in the H L really put it together with Rochester, especially later in the year on the right side. He was North Division All Star for crying out loud with Rochester. He's got a lot of potential. For a guy that Jason Box well drafted in the third round, and everybody said Wait. Who is this guy? Scary lacks. Idan is that guy? And he is a Pretty darn good defenseman and another good year in Rochester for lax Idan and especially if Ryan Johnson can have a really good year again in Minnesota in his junior year. You know, is Ryan Johnson gonna be an NHL right away? Perhaps. But certainly with a good year in Minnesota. There's a potential for that. I think another good year for relaxing in in Rochester would certainly help his prospect of becoming an NH other sooner rather than later. So by the time we get to this point, let's hypothetically say the Sabres draft open power number one overall. He plays another year in college and comes in right away and He is just, you know, dominant at the collegiate level, he can come into the NHL. Your Your top six include potentially potentially Darlene Yoki Hardaway's Your top pairing. I'd say power and lacks indent. Is your second paring. Maybe. And then your third pairing could be Ryan Johnson and will bargain That's that's damn good. That is damn damn good. I would take that but again. I really, really like Matthew veneers and and you know, I'll have a mock draft right before the draft comes out. And, you know, I'll give you some final thoughts heading into the draft where these these players kind of project. And who knows? Maybe the Sabres will make this cycle trade sooner rather than later and they get another top 10 pick. That's another player. That's going to make things very interesting for the Sabres going forward. Could they get the third pick from Anaheim? Could they get the eighth pick? From Los Angeles Could they potentially get the fifth pick from Columbus? We don't know. We don't know what exactly is going to come back in a potential Eichel trade, but the goal seems to be. They're trying to get another top pick in this year's draft. Wherever that may fall, however, that may play out..

"Talked about talking to the agent. But nothing that would change my mind on how this ends. He's going. No, no, definitive. Listen, this guy's our captain. Right? Teams are interested in him, but we're moving forward with them. We believe in him. We're going to get this health things squared away. I mean, none of that. They're mild to me. They're miles that couldn't be farther from that. Um, you know, and I think that the reason for that is is obvious. So you know, we'll see when that when that comes, but I'm very much assuming it's coming, uh, and have been for months now, so we'll see when it when that when that hammer drops Yeah, I I think so, too, Joe. Did you get any sort of takeaways from today Because Man, These things are often not Chock full of information or new developments, and this was like a classic example of that There was a lot of dancing around. I think the thing that We were all kind of hoping you would get something out of which is the next things to happen, which is cycle Reinhart and risk the line. And you would think So not really, because I think the Granado said some interesting things to me about. Like wanting to plain entertaining style of hockey and, like almost putting more emphasis on the young players, But we've heard that from Granada before, so I'm not sure that was really new. It's nice to have the confirmation. That as the permanent head coach is going to be thinking the same way that he acted as on an interim basis, But yeah, I'm not. I'm nowhere closer. There's no I don't think of the Eichel situation any differently today than I did yesterday. This could be the youngest team they've ever had. I mean, this this could be a team a roster. Unlike any they've ever had. Unless maybe you can tell me about 1970. But even in 1970 like there were veterans, right? Like it wasn't just kids. If it even matters like this team could really be like just kids, right? Like who Skinner is locked down because of his contract. So you know, Yeah. I mean, Girgensons isn't young. Really. I mean, at least not as young as you know, he's been here for what? Eight years now. Um Wow. Maybe right, is it? It might be that long in it. Um Michael was six. Right. So it is it. Maybe it's more than that. I didn't know. Uh so that mean they'll be got. You know, if a post so is here, Skinner is here. Girgensons, his back. Um, those are your those are probably your oldest guys on the team. I don't know There's not There's not anyone on the book. They could have a young team and a really young blue line. Like if they if they get if they get the trade for trade. That's even without considering own power. Who, you know, I don't know if they if they will draft him first, but it seems like if they do, he's going to go back to college anyways, so that's even without him here, but If you're blue line is Darlene Yoki. How are you? Bargain? Uh, Bryson. Well, I guess McCabe maybe could still be in the mix, And that's not a real young guy. Maybe he's the one old guy. What is he up, though? I don't know. Yeah, he's he's a free agent. Yeah, He was good. You know, pretty good. So they could be really young. They could be really young, like if they if they swing a trade and get like a Jamie Drysdale, that guys in your absolutely is playing and like you're talking about, you know. Very, very young group of players back there. If you acquire that, which I think I think is kind of exciting, like Yeah, I I've long sort of advocated for Experience being overrated. Just let the Let the young guys I don't want to hear about development. If he's good enough, he plays And it's really I think it's really hard for teams to get there. They don't want to get there. Doesn't serve their purposes. They've got older guys. There will be there be controversy, they'd be conflict. But now there'd be less of that. The the Sabres have almost carte blanche here. If they make these moves, and they'd have, nobody would set high expectations for them. I think a team like that could be pretty good. Mean they're going to have to find real talent up front to go with it. You know, I have to have a lot of it, but I wouldn't. All I'm saying is, you just wouldn't I wouldn't assume that the youngest team is a bad team just by itself. Like Mm Those are good. Some some of those players are pretty good already, like right away. So I think that's kind of exciting, and that's really what I'm in the mood for with them. But by the way, the youngest Sabres team ever is the 87 80 18 24 or five months. Yeah, that makes sense. Right? They were, They were starting over at that point, or 86. They were So that makes sense. 2024. 24 years. Five months. Yeah. Was the average there? 87 88? Yep. I can beat that. Like, Bulldogs said, Like Will, Borgen could maybe be their oldest defenseman next year. Like in the opening night lineup, and he's 24. Yeah. Good. I I hope that that's kind of the vibe here, Right? You know, I I feel like nothing today changed anything about what? We we've been sort of expecting from them here this summer. Just didn't There wasn't any news exactly. To give us proof. We'll talk to Paul Hamilton here coming up, including about another round of really from Kevin Adams. How he wants players who want to be here. That was another one. I go back and forth on that point. There are times when I sort of nodding to. It sort of tapping my foot to it. And there are times where, like, all right, just let's let's try to do a little better. I go back and forth on that one. Paul next and Don Granado joins us at four Mike Show Open the Bulldog W. G. R. You're listening to Chopin, The bulldog on the home of the Bills. "You could do 73 or just eight. And then would burn can also be one. Yes, Morgan is eligible for the draft. So you have to. I would protect Borgen. Darlene Yoki. Who are you? And move wrist aligning before I have to protect them. You think you have to move first aligning before that, because he's he is gone. Good is gone. Whatever you think of as a player. He's gone in 82 games, no matter what he's not sticking around here, So basically your decision is I want whatever will Borgens future is or do I want half a season up the deadline of Rasmus crystalline in Like that's your decision. And to me, that is a no brainer. Well, I don't know what kind of offers you would get for him. But I do know that he should have been traded five years ago. And on some level maybe the Sabres would have said yes to something involving him. I just don't want to leave him unprotected anyway, like is there an offer is the best offer. I'm getting for him necessarily good enough. To make me want to make sure I trade him first, as opposed to just leaving him off the list. Seattle, Seattle want What is he $6.5 million to Seattle, one of $6.5 million player who makes his teammates worse. It's It's a new organization. They're probably they probably have people near the top of the organization who, like know this stuff, would they pick up got him that I've got to make 5.4? Um, but anyway, I mean, it's not a huge difference. Um, yeah. I mean, I I still think there's gotta I I would expect that there's some value. But is it worth getting something back that you might have to in turn protect anyways? Is maybe a good question to ask about him, You know? Is he some sort of sweetener to an icicle or Reinhardt trade? Maybe. Um, but I don't even know if that that works because you know, you've got to find the right team that would would really want him. And you know, there's reasons to think maybe smart teams wouldn't like you just said so I don't know. Maybe it's maybe maybe he's someone you leave out there. And if if he doesn't go, then you play him and spin them for whatever you can get in February. Mhm. Well, the things the thing Seattle might do. What the Sabres in Seattle would have to decide is is whatever you get in crystalline in for a trade more valuable than will bargain. That would be the Sabres call if they don't have a deal for wrist, aligning by July, 21st there call should be all right. Do we protect Resto? Because if we do that, we need to get something that's more valuable than this prospect defenseman that we're getting that will probably lose. Yeah. I still have to wait for the finals to end before this can start. Probably Probably probably probably, Yeah. I mean, the Sabres might have half a dozen or more different lists, depending on what they're able to get done between now and then, right at the deadline. For filing the list. That was at the day of who? I don't know. That might be earlier than the You got to give Seattle a little time. Yeah, That's right. You couldn't just give it to him an hour before the Yeah. No. You've got to give the deadline is probably yeah. Prior to the 21st. Right. Well, there's some decisions to make here and goalie would be to car ski because who else could it be No. One. They don't have anyone else That's eligible, well not meets the criteria to expose Starsky needs to be exposed. So you can't protect him. They would protect just Oh, marks. Negotiating rights? Probably OK, OK. Yeah, Sorry, misunderstood that, And by the way, I don't really think the eight skater idea is all that appealing to the Sabres if they wanted to protect both both Morgan and Wrist align in because then you're exposing middle stat. Thompson Aspelin, Like If you're getting 24 forwards Michael Skinner, Reinhart, and then you're deciding between I guess, Allyson and middle set You're you're giving away more valuable forward. I think then then what you're keeping and both Morgan and wrist alignment. So the eight skater rules not to me. Super appealing. This is a team that's going to go 73 and one probably. Yeah, okay. Expansion draft is three weeks or so. 21st of July. And the deadline as we just talked about is probably prior to that, so it will be something you're hearing more about here in the coming days might show up in the bulldog here. Thank you, Joe. Sneaky Joe, with the breakdown there for the Expansion draft possibilities with the Sabres. We will have Kris Peeters hockey reporter coming up at four, formerly with ESPN. "They're going to have to do something at the position and you know you and I've talked about it. Did they just bridge to Yuka Peca Lucan in Are they that confident that he's going to be the guy that they don't make any sort of long term commitments or Do they want to be good right away. You know one of the one of the things that have to do with Don Granado. Okay, let's say they hire Granado. It's a young team They're going to want to learn to win. He's going to teach them the way he the way he does, You know, national development team, whatever. We're going to grow as a team. We're not expecting to win the Stanley Cup. Okay, What kind of goal does that team get? The best possible goalie, the young goalie, the veteran guy that they can count on. Do they want to get Marc Andre Fleury right. His name was thrown around like last year. So Vegas is committed to Lennar. Long term. Why would they want to not going to give a flurry? Another contract? So you kind of get to that? I don't know what they're going to do in goal, but they don't have any. They don't have an NHL goaltender under contract so they'll probably bring in two And Hallmark again. He was generally fine. So do you want to pay? Generally find pretty good. Yeah, six million a year because that's what he might want right around right around. Now. Do you try to take a flyer on somebody else's young guy that had a hot year like Carter. Hutton wasn't young when they took the flyer on him fill through power. You want to go give him a big group of U F A in Colorado has cat problems? Go ahead and give him big money, then, right Pheasant, a finalist. You want to go out and give that guy a big contract? I just don't think that's the right approach. Right, so it'll be interesting to see what they do. You know, I I Ideally, you want the goalie that makes you feel great back there every single night, But in a salary cap world you have to. You have to have conversations about every position so It is a more interesting It's a very interesting spot. In terms of what they do, and it feels like the large amount of hockey fans and how the hockey world has kind of accepted the you don't just go out and pay the top goalie on the market, big money the way you would if he's a quarterback, right? We don't do that. But It's almost like a wait and see. Do you have You say no to group our you saying no to Gibson. Who do you say? Yes. To Yeah, well, I'm asking myself that too. Like I don't even know who the who The answer is. There are a truckload of free agent goalies on the market this year. To now, again varying degrees of contract. If you're Philip Group hours, 29, I'm going to guess you're looking for a pretty good sized deal off the season. He just add. Took her ass. Pecker, Rene Frederik Andersen, Devon Dubnyk. Uh, ego. Ego. She's Sturcken. He's restricted. Sorry. Those guys are all U F phase. James Reimer, Peter Marra. Zack, You want him? What about the Florida goalie? The guy that's behind Um, What was it brightens Chris Trigger, Chris trigger. Thank you. Right. He's behind both. Bobrovsky and their first trump expense er night. Yeah, so he's changing to what happens with him, like Is that a guy? I mean, maybe an R F A, Um or are you if I'll double check? Is that an answer for you? Because, you know he's had some success right? And like. It's a he's six ft Four like you might like a tall goalie, But you wouldn't be paying this guy $7 million a year anyway. Well, if you're the Sabres, you might decide again. Like what is Kevyn Adams? How does Kevin Adams view this team? Does he think Our scouts are Pro scouts say this guy is a number one. Yeah, we're going to sign him for five years. 30,000,005 years $35 million. We think he's the number one just Do it. See? But okay, all right, I'll not that I would do this, but I guess if you want to play along on how this all fits, it's entirely possible. Over the next few weeks, Three guys will come off the roster that eat up about $20 Million of Cap space. Michael Reinhardt risk the line in So you would certainly be opening up a lot of cap space. If you wanted to pay a goalie. Big money it gets to for me. I guess it gets to Toby readers going to eat up a lot of that, though. No, no, But Darlene Yoki har you future contract. Borgen. Those are three R F A s middle stats. An R F a splint and R F A Right? But it gets to, I guess you know, I know the position. Yes, the positions important, Ultimately, that's the guy who has to stop the puck and I think, but I still think it comes down to what kind of a team do you have? Like when we're watching? I mean, Carter Hutton turns out to be not so good. But we were watching the Sabres and we're seeing them lose hockey games We're talking about boy. If the goal is could just come up with a clutch, save every now and then to bail out the team when they're making mistakes in front of them. Don't know that Kevin Adams vision should be. We're going to be young from the next 23 years we're going to develop. We're going to have some talent here. We're going to maybe go through some growing pains. We're going to be prone to mistakes. I need a wall back there. I need like a big giant freaking wall to cover up for what this team is going to be going through as it goes through its growing pains. I'm just not a fan of you know you can find a goalie, but whether or not you want to pay him a big, big contract, high cap number long term. I'm just not a fan of that. I just think nobody was talking about Montreal as a model. Now, all of a sudden, they win three playoff series and and Marc Bergeron is the version is all of a sudden the GM of the year when he's been on the hot seat for how many years now in Montreal. It was not a good contract to give out. Nobody in the league thought it was a good contract to give out to carry price. But all of a sudden they make a little run, and now we're looking at them and saying Yep. Do what The Canadians did go sink tons of money into the best goal you can find and bring them in here right now. It's just not the way I would. I know I got to have a good goalie. That doesn't mean you've got to find the most expensive, biggest contract, you know, sink it into a good free agent goalie and pay that guy $678 million a year. No, I just don't think that's the way to go. That's not to me. That's not the correct way to allocate your resources. The thing that Montreal is getting right now. Is first off. They don't have a really high paid forward on the roster, the highest paid salaries Brendan Gallagher 6.5. Josh Anderson Tyler Toffoli. How bout to Foley, who signed for them as a great signing for them? 4.2 you know, that was one of those silly season free agencies where they got what they really came for. Then you've got young and cheap. So if you wanna talk about The Sabres being better. This is this. This is how you again It's not like how you build a roster. Not trying to say Montreal is perfect, but Whole Caulfield 20 years old entry level contract. He's good. Nick Suzuki 21 Entry Level contract. He's good economy. Cut, Kenny Emmy. Sorry of struggling on that again, Um They've They've got young guys that jumped in and have really given them results. And with that, it's one thing that The Sabres have not had that mix right whether it's rushing middle stat or not playing roots align in soon enough, right? It seems like The organization can always claim that the timelines there on are the best. If a guy comes up and does really well in rot does really well after being in Rochester. Well,.

Michael Reinhardt Don Granado Brendan Gallagher Kevin Adams James Reimer Josh Anderson Marc Andre Fleury Peter Marra Rene Frederik Andersen Devon Dubnyk Kevyn Adams Rochester Granado Marc Bergeron $7 million Chris Trigger Carter Kenny Emmy Gibson Colorado

"To, but he didn't go all the way. He brought him down from the 25 minutes a night defenseman that Housley and Biles my headrest aligning being to about 22. So he really shaved it off a couple of minutes, but he didn't take it far enough. Guess what. He's going to go to another team. Well, maybe not. I was gonna say we're still line and will maybe go to another team and play in a more protected role, and he's going to look great. And all the fans out there that were saying, See, Look how good risk the lining is, are going to start doing victory laps when in reality All rest a line and will be doing is proving that he's not the top player defenseman that the Sabres have been treating him as for a decade. But here's why that maybe it won't happen. The report today. The rumors today Lance Lisovsky, the Buffalo News has this Chad deity menaces from expected Buffalo has this two of the best files on saver Twitter. They both have that. The Devils are interested in crystalline and they have been for years they have been for a while, but the Devils are interested. And here's why. Brought it up now, even though it is the most tired subject on this station. Going back five years, Maybe. Is it's going to happen. Or at least It has to happen. Was an end date coming July 1st 2022. That's it. We're still lining is not a saber passed that day. Barring some extreme extreme Unlikely outcome. In which wrist a line in Changes his mind after years of wanting out and implying that he wants out into Oh, yeah, I'll sign an extension with you. I mean, The chances of that happening have to be are they are they 1% are they fewer than 1%? Is there any outcome in which he actually signs an extension here? That is not even You might love wrist aligning. You might hate what I'm saying right now, But you've got to acknowledge that it's the end is coming. I don't care if you like him as a player or not. It's over in one year. And if it's over in one year and the player carries value in the league, you've got to move on it and you've got to do it before this expansion draft. Because Will Borden who just finally showed up, and it's by the way, a big physical defenseman. So if you want to keep a guy like that in the organization, here's your man he finally shows up. Borgen does after years of development, and he looks pretty darn good in his limited action with the Sabres last season. He is a guy that is cost controlled and that you can keep around for years and years and years. And does not cost you $5.4 million a year. You can that is value. That is value as opposed to 82 more games of crystalline in 50 more games leading into the trade deadline. When you will, you will inevitably move him anyway. It's got to be Borgen over wrist aligning, and if you're not read up on what the expansion draft rules are the same as they were in Vegas, you can protect seven forwards. Three defenseman and goalie Or you can protect eight skaters. Ana goalie. I don't see the Sabres doing skating option. Very few teams do the skater option. It's probably going to be the seven Forwards. Three defenseman one goaltender. And if it's three defenseman Darlene Yoki Har you are written in stone. So you've got one spot left. And it goes to either resto Or it goes to Will Borden.

"Do it. But That doesn't guarantee anything like that. And right now we're at a point in time in the league, where I think two things I think you've had because of this example with the Sabres and the Oilers, sort of it. It sticks out that there are these good or great players who were on losing franchises. Then you have. I think what's come to since at least in my mind since 2015 or earlier when we started talking about McDavid's cycle is a much keener. If you want to have it, it's out there. Much keener understanding of like, what value really is. For instance, back then. I would have. I have no idea. I don't know why. How often it would have happened because we didn't talk about him very often in here, but I would have downplayed Patrice Bergeron's value. Like 10 years ago, because, like the stats are off the charts, and so, uh, you know, do you do you do you? Can you win with Bergeron is your best guy. Probably not. You probably need Oh, well, Tyler Sagan, Right or Phil Kessel Like you'd Boston got top draft picks and so added to that team and You know, Sagan left Castle eventually left. Ciara was broad. Well, you had to have Charlie just finding you can always do this in team sports, You know, finding new explanations to prove the point you want to make Which was Persia. Run isn't great. But come on. Of course he's great. And For most of the last 10 years, that's been more easily. For me. It's been more easily understandable. Because of how Players are measured in a much more comprehensive and just intelligent way than they had been so value is sort of. It's sort of a different thing. The guys that are run the show for Vegas. Are also this like you at the top players on Vegas are elite players, but they're not like first overall, just sort of no brainer. Hart Trophy kind of players and 5 10 years ago. I will. I want to say, Well, you can't win the Stanley Cup. It's kind of the 11 of the very few conclusions you can draw about. Hockey is you Can't you can't get to the top without one guy, at least like that. And that's really not something, you know. I mean, how true is that? You sort of want to change? What value appears to be? You've got so much luck in it. And more examples of teams that were not top teams winning rounds. It's all just kind of a mishmash, but I think you still should feel as a franchise like you really need. It's a super important thing to have those top guys. And so we have had two guys picked in the top two. I need to have some conclusion out of this. I don't know what I wanted to be. Um, that's these two. Good to great players picked at the top of the draft. They've won nothing and If they tell us they've they've moved on. I'm not going to be, you know. Wrecked by it. You just need the team to get good, and I think there would be ways to get good without those two guys. They have not been able to get good with them. It's not impossible that they could get good without them. I think the reason that the future might look so dark is the reason the way you do get good without them like the example I want to point to is the Islanders who lost John to Vera's that have won six playoff series since he left. He's one nun. And how have they done it? By bringing in a defensive coach just that that stacks four guys at the blue line and says You're just not going to get any shots from the middle of the ice? We're gonna keep you to the outside. We're gonna play ultra. Defensively. We're gonna get good goaltending, and we're going to have good depth, though. Through our forward lines. We're not gonna have a superstar. But bars l and Bailey and Nelson and, uh, Berlian Pageau like we've got 56 good scores. We don't have a great one. We've got six good good ones. And that formula has worked, but for that to work Like all of those elements that are at play with the Islanders. I don't see here on the Sabres right now. Like you can be hopeful that cousins can be one of those six guys up front. And you can be hopeful that Darlene Yoki, how are you? An own power can be the top three defenders you need and you can be hopeful that you go get a cult in the Columbus goalie. And he is that guy for you and that Your head coach is going to be some version of Barry Trotz. But right now, all those elements in play, I think that you need to have when you don't have the superstar players as heroes don't have Yeah, I mean, with the Islanders, it's respectable. Can they beat Tampa Bay and then Vegas? Probably not. So the point again was the cup the cup and I still want to fit. I still want to say like I need the very best players and I think Vegas has that. I think Boston has had that. Yeah, but right. Just big in Vegas Got to Game six. The finals. They might be the favorite right now, Right when again Because that's a part of it like the Islanders. How did they get here in the first place? I mean, the penguins were as good as them in the first round. They just could not get safe. That's right at all. And that does matter. Who your goaltender is. If you come into the playoffs with Tristen, Jari Starting all of your games. Let's your own fault. But you just don't know Joe. Which goalies are going to be the right goal is before the series starts like that's That's right. It's always easy. In retrospect, how could you go with this guy? How could you not have seen this guy has done it before? Whatever. Lots of guys have done it before. They don't do it the next time. It's just it's hard to know in hockey. It's such voodoo goaltending, like, How do you know? Sure it matters. Anybody can point to a series result and be like goaltending. That's what most of the announcers do. But how do you know in advance? Okay, so that kind of leads me to like what The ultimate question might be, then is do you want to go back to like, Do you want to strive to be the Islanders know you want to strike? I still do not want to strike Montreal. Not to mention that I can't watch it right because it's not entertaining. I mean, I just don't want to strive by the Islanders. I respect it, and it's hard to say no right now. I think because you've got two of those teams right now that are in the semi finals. And like that sounds like a dream, he tells. It's so hot out anyway. Not all of me is wishing I could go to hockey. It is so hot. I was supposed to golf this morning and I said I canceled it because two out for just no Yeah. No thanks, Alice next to Lowell. Hey, guys, Um, before I start, I just want to say I do also want Reinhardt to stay. That would be a lovely dream of mine. Hmm. But anyway, I was just listening a lot to what Elliott Friedman said yesterday. And how the L A Kings are not so certain about trading for Eichel, but they do want to, uh, top six centers. So what I kind of want to say Why don't we just package Michael and Ryan Hart in one trade together, and I understand Reinhardt has an Asterix on his deal. He's an R F A and you know this Not a good chance that he could sign. But I think it honestly without upon meaning to get made here, Bring us a king's ransom back to Buffalo. And you know, I do think What Paul Hamilton keeps reminding us is that you know, this could be just a restructure and not a full on rebuild. I feel like something like that could get a restructure. Accomplished. Okay, depending on who he hires a coach. Alright, Thanks, Al. Is that realistic? Joe? The short term trading both guys in one trade Is there a team was? I think you're trading for the Buffalo Sabres. Don't know if I want to be trading for the Buffalo Sabres lot. How many teams have the most right right. I just seven million is any team of $17 million ready to put forward a quarter players 20% of their cap 2020 to 25% of their cap on two guys that have never even sniffed the playoffs. I think both of those factors make it very unlikely. Button. Plus, I mean, if Reinhardt does indeed want to go out west, I mean, you don't. I don't especially with Michael. I don't think you want to limit yourself to one region of the country. Yeah, I don't know. L thanks. Maybe it's a good idea, but it just seems like it's probably.

"Buffalo sabers will pick first overall in the NHL draft after winning the lottery. Met man. I almost got choked up in that first segment after they want it. I can't believe that happened. I can't believe that happened. I just I didn't care about it at all Coming in. I think I explained it earlier bus I could like I just We've won nothing for 10 years and any wind is just like anyone that actually, I guess it doesn't mean anything. That's why I can't believe I'm getting this way. But One in 10 years. Just to win even a lottery. It's like such a good feeling. We are going to continue into the eight o'clock hour because sabers gentle manager Kevyn Adams will be meeting with the media at 8 30. So we will bring that to you Live here on W gr. So plenty of time for your reaction as to what the saber should do with the first overall pick. Um, I've made a couple of points. I wanna get the look use in just a second year, but let's go back to the phone lines. I don't have a name on my screener caller. What's your name? Just get me. Yep. John, Go ahead. What's What's your What's your What's your thoughts? Yeah, just like that. Little love the show. By the way. Thank you. I, You know, I would like to talk about this a second about power. Watch him a little bit of the world. She's he's doing really well with the world and you know that's amongst men. I know it's not the world of weeks. They're still playing. He's the he's the number one defense run and number one pairing. Now the problem with the shapers is he's a left handed defenseman, which is the same as Ross. Darlene. So are you gonna move one of them Tow? You know, right handed defenseman. You're gonna move on to the off wing or you're gonna Draft a guy first overall. Act after actually draft two guys first overall and one of me playing your second pair. Well, that's that's the bad thing right there. I That's You know what? It's a fair point, because you're right. You would be having one of them is a second pair defenseman. Now in my mind to thoughts came as you were speaking one is Yeah. I don't want to touch Darlene Yoki, are you You know, like they were so good down the stretch together and they're both so young, and they're the best prospects you have currently in the organization. I just kind of want to let them flourish together. Which would mean right. The power would be kind of leading your second pair and man how much of it is they're spending a first overall pick on a second pair defenseman. I get why that could be Troublesome. My other thought, though, was I've always wondered about Darlene and which side he plays because he came into the NHL playing as a right side defenseman. He's a left shot, but he always played on his offside until we got here. And they changed it. And I don't know. I've always wondered. Maybe you want to go back to what he did in for Linda and what he did for team Sweden at the World Juniors. I mean, we just saw this year Uh, the sabers going back. Taking a player and going back to what he did before he got to the sabers. Kind of worked with Sam Reinhart playing center, didn't it? I mean, the sabers took guys that they thought I was gonna put him in a different position in the NHL. Then it's like you put him back in their natural positions like I'll look, they could do it. Yeah, Dog. Sam run her plates centers entire life. You forget how to do it. Of course, he was going to be good at it when you tried it again. And Darlene. I've had that wonder like, Would he be better suited on the right side Because again, that's the position he played. So you have multiple options. You could just keep Darlene Jochi. How are you together? If you did this pick or and this is probably not for this year. Probably be for the future. Um Or you could just throw power. And Just throw power and Eileen together, but Donnelly employing his offside. Mean? It sounds good on paper. I don't know if it would work, but I'd like to see you tried. One power. That's enough. I feel like that was a vote against Owen. Power for being the sabers. First overall pick William Ackland Luke use Let's actually let's take a time out here. And we'll come back. We'll take more calls at 803 or 5 50 on the sabers winning the draft lottery. I want to get to Michigan Commit Luke use who is I think I saw the youngest player in this draft. He's at least the youngest player among the first round prospects that I saw. Not even 18 years old yet. Not even in college hockey at But off the defenseman at the top, and this is a defense heavy draft at the top. I feel like he's got the highest upside and I'll explain why he's intriguing to me when when we come back here on the nightcap, Jody BSC Kevin Adams coming your way at 8 30 Sabers win the first overall pick in the draft lottery will keep talking about it when we returned on W gr Finding great candidates, the higher Converium like well, trying to find a needle in a haystack. "I think Philly is there. Um, I guarantee you that there are teams that we can don't even think of that air there. Boston would be there. I'm not sure they could do it. Auto what could do it? But I'm not sure they're there. Wonder about Montreal. I wonder about someone like ST Louis. Like all of these teams, some of those teams some of those teams don't don't In my opinion, this my opinion you have a shot of Jack because I don't think that Well, I don't know. I'm not going to say I'm just yet. Well, like like I could. I don't think Boston has enough. I don't think they have enough. Okay, look, The Rangers are interested. They would be understood. They have enough for sure. L A. I don't know how interested they are not, but they have enough. Anaheim interested enough? Okay. Calgary. Calorie have enough. Starts with MCA, Chuck Okay, but I think Caligari would be interested. Do they have enough much? Well, Philly, I think would be interested. And I think they've got pieces, okay? So I think there's I think there's a lot of teams like Montreal to me would be a fascinating wildcard like auto has enough. I don't think they're interested. Okay, Um How? How? How many interesting out there. How uneasy. Do you think Kevin Adams would be trading within the division or for that matter, the conference. I think he would rather trade I go to Mars than the Rangers. But if they give you the best offer, then you like you have to do what's best for yourself to me. Yeah, Like, you know, I understand this whole thing We don't want Michael showing up here. You got into it if the division schedule because you guys in the Rangers aren't in the same division. Remember. I mentioned a couple weeks ago that you could end up playing home and home with the other three divisions. If he goes to the Rangers, you only have to see him twice a year. If that system works. Now he's still pretty close. I understand that Buffalo in New York aren't too far away from each other. But at the end of day like, Don't you have to make the best trade? And if the Rangers give you the best deal, isn't it incumbent on your team to do it? 1% jury Rose's favorite here about Jack Eichel and where he goes, I'm worried about what I get back. Don't worry about what All the other teams were gonna worry about. Sidney Crosby and everybody You gotta worry about yourself. You're worried about making your own team and bringing in the pieces that are gonna make you better. Yep. I agree. Elliott Friedman. Joining us here is he always does Thursday at 11 o'clock, and you know, we're a lot of Jack Eichel talk. Obviously, he's a He's a superstar player in the NHL, and when these conversations air going on on any other team They're being talked about in every other town because Jack Eichel is a huge name when it comes to hockey. There are other big names, though on the sabers, and I also want to get to don Granada because don Renato impressed us All. I must say that was impressive as an exit interview as tough a cycles and Reinhart's maybe were. I thought Granado was spectacular. I was riveted to that call yesterday. I the part where front runner for you. Go ahead. Sorry. Finish your point. Well, you know, First of all the cousins did you guys a huge favor? That was big. And then I thought going on a day like the one thing that really said to me was when You know, it's one of the reporters that I don't remember who Awas as for an auto Hey, like these guys look miserable, basically, And he said, Well, you guys see that because they don't want to ask the answer the questions and I get the same questions all the time. What I see is a bunch of guys who are excited to come play hockey. Right? I thought that was to me. When it comes to negativity. The key is Flipping the script. How do you flip the script? How do you get out of the negative cycle? And I have been trying with Craig for five years earlier, and I listen answer, and I thought it was fantastic. I was so impressed. And you know, I was really impressed with chronology really was just seems to have a pulse with the players like I I still to this like I mean, I'm a fan. I watch every single sabers game I watched This team play under Ralph Krueger. And I'm going to tell you this. I really like Ralph Krueger as a person and how he spoke. And you know, obviously some tough times that this team went through. But I cannot Believe the difference in attitude in confidence in the way that this team played when there was a coaching change. They were on an 18 game losing streak. Yeah. And Dong Granado somehow. And I mean somehow Gained confidence with these players and they played a different brand of hockey. We did not have our number one goaltender. We didn't have Jack Eichel. We had guys in and out of the lineup hurt. And the and these young players, this future that we talked about, and cousins and middle stat middles that was gone to an island. We were sending him so far away because we were done with them. And now all of a sudden Everybody's like, Whoa! This is an eighth overall pick. He's not too bad. He's he was given an opportunity. Cage Thompson, Rasmus Darlene Yoki. Who are you? What happened to these guys? That dawn Granado..

"Engage with trade talks on a certain player, maybe case, the middle status. They Top trade piece to get a better player. Certainly there's there's a possibility of that, and I'd be completely open to that opportunity for the sabers if it comes to bet to that. But I think at this point you're protecting Casey. Middle stat and looking to get him signed to maybe another bridge contract. Continue that progression forward and that positive progression and you go from there. Yeah. Ah, I'm the thing here is like who else on the defensive line Do you want to keep if you're gonna go beyond the 7th 731 format of sharing right, So there has to be somebody else on the defense that you wanna protect, And honestly, I don't think there really is. And if you keep middle stat, he probably doesn't cost you all that much when you re sign him, right? So it's probably not. It's not. It's not going to be a super ex expensive investment, right? Hopefully they're not going to do something stupid. Like another bridge deal. I'm done with bridge deals, Please. I know if you're going to commit toe Casey Mittelstand, give him three or four and maybe you're paying him to mate. You're paying him two point? Sure, And that's a very affordable if he's your food center. If you can make it work with the salary cap, that's fine. Uh, Might as well jump to the defense real quick. I know that we've still got some forwards to go over, but I think it's I think it's pretty clear who your three defenseman you're protecting our Darlene Yoki. Who are you and Borgen? That's correct. Absolutely. If you're protecting Rasmus worse, aligning over well, Borden Kevin Adams is just completely lost his mind. Yeah, and it saves you five million bucks. He's a bad player, and he won't be around anymore and rest Mr Still lining and on a team that's honestly Cash strapped like you, really? They should have moved him already to free up some cap space. So this is an easy opportunity where you don't even have to do any work. Now. The downside is you're not getting anything in return for him, But maybe you work. I mean, tough luck. You had your opportunity to do that before and you couldn't really pull it off or you won't even really looking that so. Rasmussen was stolen and hit the bricks. Yep, that's that's fine by me. And even then, the.

"Towards the sabers line where Crystalline and sends a pass ahead. No icing on the plate. Asked what his actor gets it to the front of the Net scores. Casey, Middle staff. Nice hand side of the Net. Hi, welcome back, and you know, lately, the theme of the Saber season has been turned around the improved play and how some of the young guys we're looking really good. One of those players is Casey Mittelstand. He's joining us right now in the Western Hotline. Casey, it's Howard and Jeremy. Good morning. Thanks for coming on with us today. Yeah. Thank you guys for having me. You bet it's I guess I'll go with the easy question like the last few weeks. What have they been like? How much fun are you having right now? Um, yeah, yeah, We're having fun. Obviously, we're in a spot that we don't want to be in. But, um I think the young guys all get a chance to play and then getting chance to have some fun. We've all done it together and Rochester for the most part minus minus a couple guys. So, um That's funny, hardened. Obviously, we have some chemistry with each other, and, um, just try to make plays and play the right way. We get done on the show every Tuesday. Casey and I was curious, like one of the things he's talked about was trying to make. The job fun again, like, show up to the rink and have a good time. You're certainly playing an entertaining style of hockey. Now, how has don Granado and how have maybe met Alison Dan Girardi have the coaches? What have they done to try and make it a more fun work environment, so to speak. Um, yeah, I think guys are displaying looser, um, making plays at the park to making plays coming out of our zone. And, um, not playing scared to make a mistake. I think if you mess up or return a park over, then just know that that you gotta backtrack and your maid to do the same. Um I feel like some of those steaks can be kind of fixed with just hard work and We've done a good job of that. And obviously, if we want to keep making plays and keep playing that way, then the hard work's gonna have to continue. How much did that mean to you? And some of the other younger got you Dylan cousins Rasmus, Darlene Yoki hard you some of the younger guys when when a coach goes to. I mean, they don't want mistakes, of course, but when they They say, Hey, if you make a mistake, it's not the end of the world. You know, we're not gonna have you skip a shift or not benching you for the next game. Just play through it. That's got a make You feel a little bit at ease. I would assume Yeah, Yeah, It's um It's different for sure. I think we all grew up playing that way. And, um See when you start making those plays more frequently. I think all sudden the mistakes are are less unless an, um you get more confident, comfortable on those plays and all sudden. Um, I know not last game in particular, but we've been scoring so many marbles and then we were earlier in the year, so Um, a lot of times those and those end up being scoring chances for you or for your line made. So, um that part of it has been positive and Um, honestly, on the flip side, I feel like we've done such a good dog since they've given up some high shot numbers. But ah lot of shots to the outside and I'm not so much traffic in front. So it's been good for us, and we've been playing pretty well. So thank you for going here. You're scoring goals, too. I think I'm gonna I'm guessing you would agree. If I wouldn't say this is the best stretch for you. In your sabers career, do you? You just look more confident. Casey. Do you feel that way? Whether it's taking, you know the shot taking the shot? You're you're passing everything you're doing. There just seems to be a different confidence about that right now. Yeah, Yeah, Um Yeah, I think I would agree with you has been my best stretch Azad pro hockey player for sure. And, um Yeah, I think it just It just goes with not put not being scared to make a mistake. Obviously, you see the play and, um you make it And you know if you mess up, you just get back and We're going to get out there. Next shift. I have another chance to make the place so For me. It's just go out and play. I guess I know it sounds simple, but, um, let's go have fun and playing with asked me and Tom are too Obviously I played with them a lot. And Umm and Raj and and Tom are all all around. So Um, spend fine. That's been good for us. I know a Casey medals that with this little Western hotline when, when you talked to like young quarterbacks in the NFL, they go through some growing pains and I and eventually they talk about while the or even any football player. We'll talk about the game slowing down and they just have a better feel for the game. Do you experience that in hockey, do you? Did you get a sense? Or do you get a sense that the quote the game is slowing down for you this season and you perform better when that happens. Yeah, Yeah. Um, yeah, For sure. I've actually said that a few times in some my interviews. It's crazy. How much how much of a difference refused to make and Um, obviously just get in the park and looking up and all sudden you feel like you have more time than you've had in the past. So That is definitely a thing. And, um, obviously it helps when when you when you feel that way and get a better place. I thought, you know one. Some of the other things you've talked about Casey, I found it really interesting. Is Off ice off season off ice, like the maturity for any young player would include in this case, you know you you talked about how you learned how I gotta take care of my body. You just have to do other things beyond showing up, lacing up the skates, practicing and then playing in games. Yeah. Um, yeah, I guess that's another thing. I think I Everyone kind of Complains about the water quarantine break for, but for me, I think it was good. I had time to clear my head and, um Just think about what I what I do every day and then things that I could change and, um I can change my approach and feel better each night. I think that if your body's feeling that you usually play good, so For me, That's kind of gone from being towards the bottom of the totem pole toe right to the top. So, um, I think that makes the biggest difference. It's crazy. How much more consistent you can play when you're taking care.

"And that's what I'm saying. It's not about being It's not about a guy that's going number one might not really be the number one cause the number one pick might not have been able to, you know, I've been able to give have a fair shake it playing this year. Listen. Absolutely Absolutely. Like, if that's what I'm talking. Take Sam Ryan hearts here. I know. And I like I like your point. I think we're I think we're both making for points. I think a little bit. We're arguing the scene. Scenes behind the scenes. Your own powers. I know. For years I have been Lose. If you are not making the playoffs, I'd rather be last. I swear to God, I don't care what anyone says. If I'm not making the playoffs, I'd rather be last because I want to acquire that elite. Player. In a very, very, very high pick, and he will be a game changer as we move forward. Hence. Look at Dylan Cousins. Hens. Look at Jack Eichel. You know Sam Reinhart Rasmus Darlene. These guys are elite players that will propel your team. Two great things. I I honestly believe that That being said, I'm in a point right now. That I don't want to lose any games. I want this team. We've got the youth. We've developed guys like the Jacob Rice in the rash. Miss Darlene Yoki har use Makita Samuelson, you know Dylan cousins, Rasmus Aspelin seems to be like He's just more confident not he's more of a defensive minded style player, but is really playing some some great hockey right now. Casey Middle Stat Page Thompson. There's still a ton of growth. The goal in all of these players you Sprinkle in You know. Ah, Victory. All of Senator, I think it was played very, very well As of late to Sam Ryan Hardy is is, you know, a huge part of this team moving forward. We haven't even once talked about one of the top. 10 players in the world. Jack Eichel. He's not even in our lineup. Well, actually, thank you for making that point. We have calls in line. Okay? We called for him and they answered us. Let's grab Mitch in Orchard Park. He has a thought on Jack Eichel met. You're in line with Andrew Craig and W G R 5. 15 MSG What's going on? Was I doing? Doing? Great match. Thanks for the call. What's up? You guys hear me? Yeah, we can. S o. My biggest point about Jack Eichel and Just keep seeing it all over the place where people keep saying that. Look how good this team is doing without Eichel. Jack Eichel's the problem. Jack Eichel is causing all this. Negativity in the locker room, blah, blah. But if you're gonna use that point of look how good this guy is, or this team is without Jack Eichel. Wire. We not thinking about Look how good this team is going to be with Jack Eichel. You have a guy that is putting up 85 points. He's getting heart nominations. Horrible team over the past few years. This guy is improving every year and now we're all the sudden leave. We want to run him out of town because Him. Reinhardt is showing that he could be a good sentiment now. Jack Eichel belongs in the steam. He's the captain of this team, and it's It's insane to me that people want to ignore that and move on from him. When It would be Ryan O'Reilly two point. Oh, we have our number one center. We have our captain and to move and to build around. That would be the actual smart thing, not move on from him because we'll be right back to where we are. I have to say, fellas. Much appreciate the call Craig. I'll let you comment on that calls are starting to come in and good assortment of when we have some good tweets, so we'll start to take those heading into the next segment. But A quick comment on that rift. Well, it's undeniable that Jack Eichel is is One of the best players in the world. No question about it. He probably is a is ah, top 10. Hockey player in the world. That being said. We're at a point in time right now that Young guys. Getting a chance to play. Because Jack Eichel has big, big big shoes to feel, uh, fit into and no one. We don't have anybody on this team that can that can fill Jack's shoes. Can't fill. You can't fill top 10 players in the world shoes, But what you can do is players collectively start to take bigger roles. And they start to Um, you know a player like Casey, Middle stat. Is put in a position where he is now having to play against the top lines on other teams, Okay? And he is not Casey Mills that will never Be Jack Eichel. I'll never be Jack Eichel. But Casey Middle Stat can be a next tree M'lee good player in this league, and he's taking a bigger role and taking more minutes on and teach Thompson, his right winger, who was not playing is taking advantage of his opportunity and all of these players because there's more time there's more. There's more minutes in the game because Jack Eichel ate up so much That there's guys that are starting to galvanize with one another because they are trying to take advantage of an opportunity that they may never get again. And that's why we talked about earlier. You know? Is it easy for the sabers to play there out of the lineup? They don't have pressure. There's pressure. What are you talking about? Christmas. Aspelin. Do you think he's guaranteed to have an NHL spot? Like a month ago? I would have put him no. Casey. Middle stat. Was he guaranteed a month ago? No. We traded in the NHL. You were helping him pack but listen, he may not have played for any other NHL team. Cage, Thompson Satin sat in the stands, You know, like there's so many of these players Anders, New York that we picked up from Boston did not play did not have opportunism players. He's a player. He's a player now because he's getting a chance to play. He's well. He was a player in Boston, but he wasn't the player that he's going to get a chance to be here. He's going to get a chance to be a different player here than he was in Boston. There's no question we got to go to break riff. We'll keep going on that point. Potential. While there's history in the making tonight in the NHL is something I never thought I'd ever see. Tell you what that is. In a little bit here. I'll tell you what that is next other history potentially in the making here the next few days that I didn't think I'd see. Um, tell you what that is..

"MSG with Brian Duffin hour on the phone guest here. Marty Biron the lineup tonight. Is set all those and cousins Reinhardt Hall middle Stat. Thompson reader E. Can She and Skinner Lazaro Post So you're deep pairings. Montu, Our Miller, Darlene Yoki, Hard Jew. Irwin, Risk the line in and I'm hoping all mark in net. Marty, is this the lineup that gets the win the streak to an end? Well, I think it is gonna be over the next couple of games. You know, I'm taking the sabers are pulling one off. You know, against the Flyers? Is it tonight? I don't know. The Flyers are up and down type of team. They finally got a win. They get beat my Nothing. A three so I don't know. I'm looking at the morning kid this morning, and there's a little bit more energy on the ice. They did some different things. It went longer than usual. So it went a full half hour. They're still on the ice for the vast majority of players. So I think things are slowly changing and evolving into what I like to think a better way. But you're still are missing a lot of players and missing some quality players, especially at the Ford position, so Are you going to be able to score three or four or more to win? That's the big question. Marty Biron joining us here. He's down at the morning skate, so You saw you says I'm there completely forgot what it was because there was a lot of info in there. Uh um I can't remember what it was old market nets. Yeah, I would assume it's Lena's, uh, He was that is usual. And this morning sporting a a new path. I don't know if you guys are following the sabers or even latest on Instagram, or if you're Goalie nerd like I am, But he's got these blue royal blue pad that have kind of a marbling effect in them with the past, with the gloves and a different mask. So I think he's gonna go all royal today. Um, you know, and obviously Nina is going to play a lot from now until the end of the season. So he's gonna gonna be trusted to be in the net a lot. And with hunting. We don't know what With his timetable is I think we're going to see they're so Marcus as much as possible. Shouldn't we, Though, Feel free to jump in a Marty Ribs is here to like he's pulling. He's acting like you're like he's acting like your drag her two years ago, he just sitting back and listening. No. I was listening to the big inning of the show when I pulled into the arena, so I know what ribs is there used. He has a bumper sticker that says Hockey is my life. Hockey is life. Whatever it is, Which one does he have hockey views. My life or hockey is life Marty, which one I think it's hockey is my life. I don't think hockey is life, but I'll say like ribs. Hockey is my life right now With everything and you talky and the sabers and Trade deadline coming up and watching all the NHL. I think hockey is my life right now. So I want to ask you guys this question, Marty, you said there's good energy and morning skate, and I feel like I've heard in the past from multiple people that morning. Skates in the past have been flat and dead and kind of like, you know. Repetitive And do you think the game the other day against the Bruins? And I know they lost. They did have a decent game. Do you think that could give them a little more life and believing that they can beat this Philadelphia team tonight? Yeah, I think for 40 minutes. If that game against the Bruins, you can think of. You know you had some life and maybe you were in a position to to close it out and win the game. Now, if you look at the end of the game and the statistics It still doesn't look good for the sabers. I want to see the scoring chances where above 30 for Boston and maybe 14 or 15 for the favors that that's not good when you're giving out chance to the one and you give up 30 scoring chances. You have to play better defensively if you want to win, so that's still the big concern. But you're right. There was better energy, the first drill he did this morning in the morning skate, So you've got about five players to a circle and there's four big circles on the ice. Not counting the center ice one, and they were playing. Keep away and passing. And the guy in the middle of trying to cut the past and and Matt Ellis skating back and forth from one's own to the other, Like kinda Happen is sick down on the ice and telling the guys that go, Let's go. Let's get going. Then there was, you know, a bit of a keep away game going on. And it was very different than what I've seen this year. The morning skate, so I like that. You know, I like that. That's how it started. Now. I don't think it kept that pace after when they went into more shooting drills, but still like it's a start like you want to get the energy going early. You know, it's It's a weird season, and I think it's easy for the energy to go out. So keep it going is the key. I love hearing that about Maddie. Alice, Man. You know it, Terry Italia. He's going. He's in game mode right now. If he's back, checking somebody and practice he's in game mode. They better be moving. You know, many was in he's in game mode all the time game shape. There's no flicking a switch. He's in game mode and every part of life that he does, and that's why When? When mad Alice, you know, came here to Buffalo and, um You know, we you know, I had my discussion with, um, rig ear at the end of the year. I said you you have to sign this guy. I know he plays on our fourth line. But he does so much more than just play the game of hockey. It's who he is as a person, and it's how he lives, his life how we he treats his family. It Z. You know what he does in the gym? It's how he prepares for each and every game every single day. This is infectious, and that's why you want guys like that around.
