"Yeah. There's just going to be a hundred years of contamination. Motherfuckers read about Chernobyl. This is not good. Do you think that's what inspired better though than it going off in the middle of the city? I think my maze and was like, that's not that far away. Yeah, if you could see it. After Dark Knight Rises, he was like, I need to make Chernobyl to let people know what happens when Batman sets off a nuclear device. Oh my God. When is Craig basin getting his shot at Batman? Oh man. It feels like that could happen. He's kind of on that trajectory. I think he's going to be on last of us for a minute. How long? Come on. I thought they said two seasons. I don't want the third screen. I thought that when your pal Casey came on the watch. Oh, he said three, I thought he said too. Yeah. Okay. Thank you. That's why we're down with fike. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. You got Casey. When feige comes on the big picture and he says thank you for all your support over the years. A lot of people doubted me when quantum media went certified rotten. "Do you think it would be a better world if movies like Dark Knight Rises, one best picture? No. No. No, no. No. I don't know about that. Okay. Is it would it be better than the one we live in? I don't think it would have been so bad for Black Panther to win best picture. Sure. Me too. Dark Knight Rises. The Dark Knight, the dark side was the fucking sick. I think we all agree that if dark knight had at least been nominated, we would have been spared a lot of pain and misery and read it updates, you know? I legitimately wonder if our culture would have been different if that had happened. But seriously. Yeah, I think that's a very fair. I mean, the Oscars obviously changed what they do because it wasn't. This is an objectively absurd sequence that is absolutely rip shit awesome. It's cool, but like, it's kind of like a Transformers movie. It doesn't look like a Transformers. Really? I don't know. This fucking hovering thing in these fake missiles is a CGI shit. This isn't what he does. No, this is all practical effect. I don't know. It's okay. It's a Star Wars. It's like, oh, a flying object in an alley being chased by missiles. Not my thinker, I'm sorry. It's okay. I Star Wars. I love Star Wars. Wikipedia production section to try to figure out what city this is. It's unclear. They filmed a lot of places. LA Pittsburgh, New York, right? New York. New London, though that was probably just studio stuff near the manor or whatever. You want to see a lot of trucks driving through fire in these films too. He's certainly got some visual motifs, he likes to return to. This is a real bullshit end for Talia, by the way. She's just cracks her neck in an accident. Is this how it ends? Yeah. How? I'm glad because sometimes like car accidents are like, I lived, but it's like, this is, you build it up for like two and a half hours. Yeah, how did he survive that? Is a great question. He wasn't strapped down. No. He would have just hit the roof of that truck. Dag. You hate to see it. Yeah, absolutely hate to see it. Where is lucius Fox right now? River piss? Oh, there he is. Yeah. That was a great timing. He's like, we run out of urine, Batman. It's an emergency.

"I'm not sure about that. Didn't he intimate it when he came to visit Christian Bale. That was like a very long interview. They just called it the midtown tunnel. Yeah, there's lots of references to real things though. This is, this is one of the most non pornographic pornographic moments in The Batman story. It's Anne Hathaway. Riding a ton. Relax. Relax. No? I mean, I see what you're saying, but like. She just climbed on top? Yeah. That was great. We get it. Damn. From The Dark Knight Rises to Les mis. Can we steal for glory? Another Oscar and give it to Hans Zimmer. Who would you Oscar? I don't know what he has. He deserves another. Former big picture guest. He's a lovely fellow. He was a great guest. He was awesome guy. I was so intimidated when we got on with him. He was really good. Would you replace Amanda with Hans Zimmer if you could? Of course. Could you imagine how much better our theme music would be? Do you think Hans Zimmer would be like, you cut the Julia Roberts Hall of Fame short? I don't think he would fill that gap. Hansel, more likely to replace anyone recently. Hans Zimmer won for dune, which is why he was on the show. He also won for The Lion King in 1995. So here's your cops versus occupy moment, Sean. It's The Dark Knight. When I was like, no more dead cops. Yeah, 'cause the Joker is just intermittently killing people. That's right. This is also really funny because they have so many guns and then these guys all just do a big fist fight. This reminds me of the Chicago 7 movie there in Sorkin made. You guys remember that? I do like the 1968 Democratic National Convention, but with bane. I would love to be the Norman Mailer of bane versus the Gotham cops. You can be. What do you think this has been? Speak on it.

"So you don't get to make any jokes about what people are doing or not doing. Okay. With their significant other. We just missed the whole sequence where we return to the batcave and the armory and now we've got Christian Bale getting back on his feet. Don't worry, man. Batman's going to save these guys. His back is fixed. How did they just poked the vertebra back in? He kicked it back in and then he was like, you have to like hang here until you can stand. Then he did like 10 million sit ups and then he fell from a high distance twice and then successfully got out. Building core strength is the way to protect your back. I know. Oh no. Oh, and that's when I was like, I'll become a Pilates person. Pilates influencer in my second act. I'm broadly confused as to what's going on right now. They're trying to spring the cops that have been arrested. And now, Robin has been tossed into this. Well, the cops at this stage of the film. When they exploded the bridges, they also exploded all of the exits out of the sewers, where the cops were looking for bane. So now every cop in Gotham for the last three months has been stuck in the sewers. Why don't they just climb out through Christian Bale's cave? I don't think that they all just like sliding down the water in a water park. That would be great. Do you guys like a lazy river? Really good shot here. Big reveal. Yeah. You love that guy's chin line. This is actually next time Eileen goes to brush her teeth. I don't like a lazy river. Dark Knight Rises on right wing. And he's walking across that thing about how many people you're in, but and that's sort of water parks in general, but at the Brooklyn Bridge. I like going rafting

"I mean, certainly not the way that the three of us are watching it, but that's a separate conversation. It is roughly understandable, especially in the canon of Nolan films. It's much more coherent, I think, than interstellar at least, which I think is I agree with. Strains for. I think interstellar. Still in the last 30 months, the last 30 minutes. But we made a powerful weapon, oopsie bad guys got it. It's like a pretty common intelligence but yeah. Classic trope. Sure. Classic trope. Oopsie. It's very comic booky. It really is. We're just so many characters. It's really labyrinthine, and I think that's obviously one of my criticisms of him is I think he needlessly complicates a lot of his movies because he's at his best when he's doing simple direct storytelling because he's such a good to realize that we made a mistake about the bridges earlier in the film. That they haven't been blown up. But they haven't been rebuilt. That they weren't blown up yet because that's what happens in this film. Oh. Oh. See how you blew it. What's that? Literally. The bridges are exploded in this movie, not in The Dark Knight. Oh, my bad. That's right. That's all those Robert Moses jokes for nothing. No, that makes sense, because that's how he keeps everybody in. It's also going to ask him at the junket. You see Joseph Gordon-Levitt's face kind of fall. Maybe I would ask him, is that why you stopped making Batman movies? Because there are no more businesses. There's no more bridges. And the infrastructure just isn't, yeah. That's actually one of the things I liked about 21 bridges was it was just so many bridges. I know. There's 21. So many bridges. We're just coming out of your ears. Boseman was like, go to that bridge. No go to that bridge. It's a great stuff. Sienna Miller, remember her? Oh my God. I'm realizing I'm just a grave error, which is that we started recording again and I left the girl scout cookies on the table over there. I can go get them.

"Super active on Twitter when we did vision quest. I recall he was not a fan. Yeah. As if we watchable. He took issue with rhyme solo. I think he just didn't like our tone. Okay. And the way we talked about vision quest, even though I think we were pretty warm towards that fact. I seem to remember there's being a sort of snafu over LAT pull downs. For solo, I think, was like, if you picked the guy who could do pull downs the worst on set, you couldn't do worse than modine. All right. Vision quest never seen it. What's it about? A guy who needs wrestler wrestler in a small Washington state town who is trying to make something of his life. It's not a sci-fi movie? No. No, no. I don't know, vision quest sort of sounds like, you know, everyone's spiritual. Okay. You've asked the man to so many times about vision with the diamond in his head. That's right. And now anytime she hears it, she's just associates it with vision. Filmography wise? Dark knight inception dark die rises? Is that the order? Correct. And then Interstellar Dunkirk, Tenet, Oppenheimer. That's right, king. Just thinking about the evolution of his style, you know? How has it evolved? Well, I think that nothing he has done since DK R I think he's made like a leap in a kind of formal way and I'm trying to articulate what it is. I think once he was like untethered from a big blockbuster. You can't show any blood, like whatever. It's not that his movies are gory, but they feel more realistic, like Dunkirk, obviously, is much more horrifying than this movie, you know? Yeah, I think he's just really well suited to. Practical science and not an imaginary science. So that's where your interstellar problems come in. Yeah. The sort of philosophical science stuff really I have always had a hard time with. I mean, visually. You can just do a chase. As a visual filmmaker, he's maybe literally the best. I mean, he might be the most kinetically exciting director that we have. The sequence in The Dark Knight with the truck flipping over is trapped a bunch of stock traders to the back of not Glenn Powell. Crotch rockets, yeah. Glenn Powell has concussion. Yeah. Where do you think of Matthew modine Amanda? I don't. Really? Very often. Not in a rude way, but it's like, could I name another Matthew modine film off the top of my head? No, even though I've seen like 18 of the full metal jacket. Pacific right, of course. Ordinary people. Right. No, that's not him. That's Tim Hutton. That's the problem. Miss bell, yeah, he's not sure. He said quite a moment with Stranger Things. That's true. Oh, when did he show up in Stranger Things? He's like, no, I don't want. I don't want to know the answer to that question. She's like they're from the jump. Yeah, he's a big, big, bad. That's the monster. Whoo. What is that weapon? It's a taser. Is that what it does? "Under the illusion that that happened. I'm not going to answer the question. Okay. I'm fucking so hyped for Oppenheimer. Are you? My guy, Josh peck is in that move. That's your guy? That's just crazy. Bomb movie for Christopher Nolan? I think that they were just getting down to the bottom of the list of white male actors in Hollywood. London. Westminster. So what club is here before? Westminster London just like Chelsea were full of, I think. You know, Big Ben. Was he just whatever. Where's your head out with Oppenheimer? I'm really looking forward to it. Obviously, same day as Barbie, so we know where my allegiance lies, but that's the beauty of the movies is that you can go see both. Do you think for this show, will you watch all the documentaries about nuclear bombs that I'm going to watch in the preparation for that? Well, you guys read the passenger by Cormier McCarthy. I would like to. I would like is that about nuclear war? There's a bunch of nuclear war. I gave that to my dad for Christmas, but didn't read it myself. You guys know my dad and cormac McCarthy. Big fan. Is he forever linked? Oh yeah. This was an incredibly long visit without lawyer. There's a lot of to win better. And real life Bruce Wayne is not letting anyone in that house without 14 lawyers. That's a great point. We even get up the drive. Oh, this is a fan stuff. John dagget of course, so Ben mendelsohn character who's not a good man, and he's a attempting a kind of sort of a hostile takeover of Wayne's enterprise. Is this like his country house? And does he have a lot of sunscreen on right now? I think this is Wayne manor. Okay. He definitely is meant to look palette because he hasn't been going outside. Right. Because he's recovering from his injuries. Christian Bale loves to walk with a cane. All about the physical performance. What are the injuries that he sustained at the beginning of this movie? I think it's a hangover from all of the battles with two faces. It's like time catching up to him. Yeah. And four years passed between The Dark Knight and this film.

What Is Going on in El Salvador?

"Going on in El Salvador El Salvador's out of country we talk about a lot, unfortunately, the only reason we usually talk about El Salvador is the criminals that are coming from El Salvador that are coming into our country, but El Salvador is deciding to take things into their own hands. El Salvador borders the north Pacific Ocean. It is obviously in Central America, borders Honduras and Guatemala. And it's a small country, all things being equal, but it's also a very violent country. In fact, unfortunately, El Salvador, most Americans, if they were to think of El Salvador, they would think of El Salvador as being a violent, a viciously violent gang infested country. But I think this is worthy of noting of how El Salvador has decided to take things into their own hands and be leaders. So the new president of El Salvador, in fact, I don't know if he's new. I just think he's good. I don't know how long he's been in office. We'll find out in a second. President bukele has decided to embark on an ambitious new project. As soon as I saw this news story, I thought of a very specific Hollywood reference, of course I thought of Harvey dent in The Dark Knight where you just arrest like 2000 gangbangers at once. He's been president since 2019. So apparently he's been working on this for some time. Let's go to cut 60 Jesse watters who reports on El Salvador's new president moving gang members to do to a new mass mega prison. And is the country safer? Not only is it safer, but crime in El Salvador has dropped so dramatically there has not been a murder in the whole country in a week. What a concept

A Prayer to Be Online With God

"Online communication seems to be the key enabler for us to work rest and play. I mean, the chances that you're even listening to this devotional online. The other night I was thinking about this subject while staring up at The Dark Knight sky. I portrayed since a poetry by saying there were stars twinkling, because they weren't, at least not to my naked eye. But I felt somber looking at that in different deepness of hidden space. I knew that all around me, the word was communicating. And yet God was still there. Almost silent. I say almost because Jesus Christ is the king of communicators. To such an extent that he is called the word. We say so much in our text messages, emails, and apps. But it's also meaningless, if not embedded in the word. All that needs to be said is fulfilled in him. So, let's pray to be online with God. To receive the word from the word, Carmel restless, Internet tuned minds and embraced the true life and light, which is simply him. Let's pray. Father God of the heavenly lights. I pray to you this day in the name of the word Jesus Christ. He loved me enough to die for me. I am privileged to pray by the leading of your gift, the Heidi spirit. I want to thank you for your patience with me. You see me when I'm distracted on my phone, tablet or PC, and you still wait for me. During my days or make it so pulled towards the idolatry of consumerism and self worship, you forgive me. When I am tempted to think that man is capable of anything, as I'm awed by the gadgets and technological advances, he reminds me that you alone are the tree doorway to creativity. When I believe the lie that the online world is proper living, you bring me back to reality. I'm perplexed my dear lord that you still want my company. I love you ABBA, now I'm so glad of your love for me, and for my family. Give me wisdom to obey your will. Finally, obedience with a delay is not obedience. I ask for a gift of maturity tea as I use technology in my daily life. Directly to use these tools for your glory. Remind me to use my time not waste it. Help me to bear fruit as I communicate with others because, at all times, I represent you.

Matt Harvey's MLB Career Is Over

"There's a new story now, Matt Harvey, who was a great pitcher for the mets. They called him The Dark Knight. And he's now involved in this death of a California angels pitcher who was taken percocet and did Coke and Harvey happen to be there. Harvey happened to give him the pills and this guy ODed and Harvey's career is basically over. Because you look back on his days as it met when he didn't show up for spring training when he had a fight with a teammate when he left, but he needed to get out of a game early. You go, wait, those are cocaine moments. You recognize that now, some of us saw that stuff happening and said, he's on, he's on blow, man. I can tell. I knew when Doc gooden was getting high as it met. But Coke game was all around us in the 80s in New York, especially in New York. We had our athletes alone, Lawrence Taylor, Michael ray Richardson, Doc gooden, Dallas strawberry, Keith Hernandez, his career was almost room because he couldn't shake cocaine. Mike Tyson, of course, everywhere. But this fall of Matt Harvey's has been quick and steep.

So really understood what I wanted to do. And Alan, you know, it was just an absolute gentleman, someone that I still look up to to this day. After Warner Brothers, he went and ran Disney with their run, you know, between marvel and Star Wars and everything and so between Alan being responsible for Harry Potter, The Dark Knight stuff, and then on to all the Disney stuff, he probably had his greater career as anyone I've ever heard of in the movie business. So my first focus was around sort of two concepts, global worldwide, large tentpole films and franchises. And then the business I expect of being bringing long-term institutional capital to bear. And then I ask you dumb questions, which is part of the style, I guess. But just for people who don't know, including me, what is institutional? What is capital? What is institutional capital? What is equity what is private equity? Got it. Okay. Well, so if you're starting a company and you go around to a bunch of your successful friends and say, hey, you should invest in my company. Well, that's sort of that's great. And it's capital, but it's not getting money from fidelity or T ro or, you know, a sovereign wealth fund or an endowment fund from a university that has large pools of organized capital that has a long term point of view on your business. So if you get money from your neighbor who's a successful dentist next year, the dentist may say, hey, times are hard. I need my money back..

"Their wedding photos irreplaceable things in there and they lost it and this is a huge argument in the community. There are people who believe in infosec and information security believe everything should be encrypted and to to have anything stolen as a worst outcome but people who work in backup software like people who do like super-duper and Back blaze. all of those. Things will tell you that for most people not at a ten people. The worst outcome is them losing access to it. And that's why they'll tell. You never encrypt a hard drive. That you use for backup encrypt the hard hard-drive on your laptop when you're traveling if you're traveling but never include never encrypt your hard drive backup because if it's damaged you can no longer data or recovery. You've that stuff is just gone. And that's what apple was was wrestling with. And they determined that the amount of incidents that involved information leaking were insignificant to the amount of instances that included people losing access to their to their own personal data and so they switched it to the new system which was instead of being fail. Secure was failsafe. Some companies do both by blaze will let you encrypt locally. And then upload to the web you give up a lot because at that point you're only uploading a blob and like i called. You can go in and see your photo. You can go in and see your data if you choose encryption thing you lose all that and it adds a level of complexity which apple was not good at managing at that point so my guess is they've figured out a way to do this too and we might see that rolled into this but it's it's been a process to get there in a way that doesn't hurt a lot of people along the way certainly well. That is a lot of information. Sorry no no no. That's completely wrong. Address that in the beginning of the show. They're doing this so they don't have to scan anybody's library ever. They're not everyone else does scan. Everyone's libraries apple wants no part in scanning people libraries. Would it be see the hashes. I was trying to think of like a good real life. Example to me. I kind of think of like looking at like contemplates. Sorry license license plates. Yeah looking at car license plate but not being able to see the car now. I know that's not quite right because you can. You know the license plates parked the cau- but it's the difference between like a database of license plates and oh that's a red saddam or like a black suv. Would that be. So i guess some weights like maybe a more helpful metaphor of you know apple. Isn't you know leave. Three one by one to kind of look and see what's going on. Yeah it's like if you take the if you take an image and you reduce it to math you perform some functions on it and you get a unique serial number basically your for every image and then apple is encrypting those serial numbers because they don't want they don't want to use this as a way to get this material either so encrypting the serial numbers and then they're comparing them with a little bit of fuzziness because cropped the image people make them black and white. Some people change the color. Some people destroyed sleigh. Don't get caught because yeah again. Google microsoft facebook. Everybody stands for this stuff and they've learned to try to work around the scanning so they distort the images and so it's fuzzy enough that it try and this is one of the things i think. People have a hard time understanding like you'll see. why does google ban youtube accounts for people who are legitimate. Sometimes white as apple remove legitimate app sometimes. Why does scam apps and up in the store. Why does scam videos and up on youtube and those two things boggle our minds how can legitimate stuff be suppressed and fake stuff still get there and spoken to so many people who are involved in this at google and apple even facebook a little bit and the thing is like you have a sent a sweet center of legitimate stuff and you tune your algorithm and if you tune it too much one way it starts to catch some legitimate stuff and if you tune it too far the other way starts to let in some illegitimate stuff and there will always be because you're dealing with billions of bits of data all the time and people who are very sophisticated trying to game the system all the time so it's a continual adjustment battle and they will always catch some. at the periphery. The goal is not to have too many fakes and not to have too many false and it is really hard to maintain that balance. And that's what they're doing here because they're trying to catch people who've distorted the images but not catch any images that are part of the database. Someone's asked there are. we've touched on. This does only apply to. I cloud foes not you know your files you don't commence your numbers spreadsheets or whatever anything like that it's exclusively. I exclude it. Only applies to photos that you're uploading to cloud it only happens in the moment of upload so starts already their stuff is never going. There doesn't apply either. Yeah so it's not kind of of transition at taxes. A receipt on upload. This is all starting with the software updates from this fall. Yeah yes. I was fifteen ipod. S. fifteen all right. Is there anything stopping people. Just not updating to iowa fifteen and you know what really care about really care about the new going to take one look at those little boxes on twitter and say damn it. I'm i'm yeah yeah. I'm not sure that like the gross traffickers. Care about the boj's well and i mean that's the thing like the the people who do knowingly. Have this kind of material on their devices are probably already doing things to to keep them. You know out of the cloud you know. They're not going onto google photos not going onto dropbox there. They you know criminals are always gonna look to minimize their risk dark web. I think it's to chat. Hey viper he's still there about that. I i think it's like as we've said is like a lot of information on our lot of again. We have said already. That has not done a superb job of explaining and it leaks before huntsville. People kind of thought. They knew what was about to happen before it happened. Maybe it was like a little bit different to what we unlike has been a story so we know that last night apples put.

What to Do When You Can't Find God

"Several years ago i read a book by a j swoboda called the dusty ones in it. He shares a story about his from high school whose name was stew. Stew met jesus through his friendship with jay and they quickly became zealous. An excited together. They read the bible. They prayed in front of lockers. And stu felt close to god in those days will soon. Aj lost touch after graduation as often happens in about ten years later they reconnected and that was when aj learned that statue no longer called himself a christian because once he went off to college he stopped feeling the presence of now. I'm not here to debate the reality of stews relationship with god or the validity of his conversion or even the role of feelings as they mix with our faith. But what i do wanna talk about. Is this experience. That many friends of jesus either have gone through are going through or will go through and that is the experience of the loss of the felt presence of god. The truth is we won't always feel god's presence. I know some believers who say they've never really felt god's presence. I don't want that to be true but it is true. The good news is this is nothing new. For generations and generations christians have wandered through the wilderness have walked through. The valley of the shadow have navigated life in the midst of difficulty loss and seemingly impossible circumstances. If you are walking through your own wilderness right now. You are not alone even if you feel alone. Saint john of the cross called his experience of not feeling god's presence a dark night of the soul martin. Luther called it. The scandal of god's hidden nece and barbara brown taylor in her book learning to walk in the dark. She says no. One chooses the dark knight. The dark night descends.

Did the Pandemic Kill the Oscars?

"There is a lot of pre anguish about. What's going to happen during the academy awards and the conventional wisdom is that the audience will not show up and maybe we'll be half of what was last year. Maybe less than that people are talking about. Ten million people watching. It'd be an time low by fifty percent or more first of all eliza. Are you paying attention to this. Sort of industries. Fears about the telecast itself leaving aside the movies is this something that's on your mind. Yeah i mean it has been for years. The viewership has been dropping for years On all live tv events even the super bowl which typically is the one that pulls in viewers is dropping. So there's been a lot of hand wringing in a lot of attempts to re engineer this the show in ways that will get people to watch it because they're interested like they tried to introduce a best popular picture category. That didn't really get off the ground thinking that people were gonna watch that happy years ago. Right that's back to lord of the rings time no it. Two years ago they expanded the category. That was that was the chance to give laura chance to get an award and it was largely because the dark knight didn't manage to get nominated for best picture so they know they expanded that to give it ten slots that was an attempt to do the same thing in that was ten years ago. So now we're in a position where people still aren't watching. They realized that like host don't really bring people in presenters. Don't really bring people in the movies themselves. Don't really bring people in. And i keep thinking i can't imagine why anyone would watch it live. I don't watch anything live anymore. You can watch the good stuff the next day or just watch it. Go by on twitter and watch whatever it is. You would rather be seeing on netflix or something. So you know this year's awards shows have been really really low in viewership. And i would not be surprised if the oscars are the same way although they are trying to intrigue us to make us feel like this might be different. Maybe it'll be worth watching people also arguably had the chance to watch all the best picture nominees this year in a way that they didn't in the past since they've all been digital so there is a chance that more people might be interested in those movies but i think we'll still see a drop off and in my view if they really are worried about viewership for the oscars they're just going to have to rethink the whole

Is Zach Snyder's 'Justice League' a Good Movie?

"The very controversial for so many reasons for content reasons for formatting reasons i saw so many memes about the fact that it was reformatted. Four three zack zack. Snyder's justice league has officially dropped. We say dropped on the internet right. It's not like premiering a movie theater. It's just dropping on on. Streamers is fishy dropped on hbo. Max there's a complicated back story where zacks under had to leave mid production because of a family tragedy which is very sad judd app not try that patel just we took over just we apparently was a total asshole and there were all sorts of lawsuits. About what a dickey was and then you know. The film by many fans was not felt to reflects what zach snyder intended and there was long discussion of a zacks undercut image. Peo- max put in seventy million dollars to shoot a whole bunch more footage to make the zack snyder. Cut of justice league. Come out for years later. This is an interesting story because it is different. From a lot of directors cut stories. A lot of directors cut stories are ten years later. I'm grateful the studio give me access to the archive to rescan the negative and re-cut it is very rare in fact i can't think of an example where someone's like four years later. I got an extra seventy five million dollars to shoot additional footage to make an alternate movie like it is. Is there another example. That are missing where somebody got that. I don't know but what i do know. Is that in the history of film. There have been many many many directors cuts and extended editions and versions. That were revisited. We've talked about some of them here before. And most of our audience familiar with many of them It is not unheard of obviously for there to be something that prevents the original vision to be completed by the person who had it. And obviously there are many instances where somebody could go back and try and piece things together. Only orson welles. A number of times We even talked to. I talked to walter merch about going back in and recruiting and working on touch of evil. There are the magnificent emerson's with him as well. I think he's one of the early versions. Were early famous versions but bladerunner famously for anybody mir charles age And so much inbetween. It's such a common story but this one does stand apart because yeah he was given basically a massive feature film budget to make more of it his version of it and it is an interesting thing like will this happen more often. Will we get criminal. And saying actually i want to shoot a whole different ending too dark dark knight rises fifteen years later. Because i've rethought it. And i wanna go into a very complicated sort of relationship between the artists and the work when you remove the theatrical premiere and when you open up the idea of shooting original additional footage it is a it's vastly different so Full disclosure wasn't able to finish it have a two year olds. Get very sleepy very easily. Don't have four hours with two year. Old where i can watch the whole thing but universally in my social media of the people in my life everyone i know seems to have really enjoyed the new cup more than the last cut. I do not understand why people hate on sex neither so much. I genuinely enjoyed his dawn of the dead. I thought it was solid. I also am a like. I wanted to get into movies. Originally to make watchmen. When i was nice school. I don't hate his watchman. Cut like everyone else does. I don't understand whether so mad about it. I think people to hate sex. Neither for some reason that does not make sense to me. I'll also disclosed and then michelle. I know michelle is actually watched both right but so i have watched the new one. I watched the snyder cut. I did it. I made it through. Well di i not a big comic book movie fan. In general i have seen many of them though. And i did not see the original justice league so i had to do some research on what changed which was really interesting to me. I also actually really think highly of him from a visual standpoint. I find that even when he's not like a lot of the movies directed this one included. The material is just not great in my opinion but he's visually so committed to the bit that he does that his sequences really worked for me. And i think he's a great comic book movie director choice. Because i think he's really. His camera is like ballot. Check i think his action sequences are visually compelling. And i think his approach like to me the thing that felt the weakest about this. I mean obviously the some some major casting problems major script problems but all that aside i think it it mimicked. Some of what marvel does too much sometimes which i don't really like. They're some straight up. Like this is just an avenger. Seen but not as good. And i don't really love what it was in the first place personally but all my my personal take aside. I think filmmakers He is just he really doesn't. He's earnest he's not tongue in cheek and sometimes it gets a little silly and you might laugh. But i think his earnest approach to how dramatic he is with his camera like from dawn of the dead to the three hundred to a and tackling real quick charles before michelle I think that warner brothers is known to have some really tight released times. They don't have the same war chest that disney does for like they. They set these release dates. They they have to make them. I'm not going to get into the wise. And if sets really true but and that puts a lot of pressure on finishing something and delivering something. And i think that some of the the flaws in some of these dc comic book movies have to do with some of that some of us so anyway onto you. Michelle i f Well done on watching. The center is a endeavor. I i think i knew what the runtime was. But it doesn't click in my head until i was watching and the timeline at the bottom. It has like how long you've watched. And i miss read it. I thought it was much like when it said two and a half hours at the bottom. I thought that was a total Not they meant time that i had laughed and that was quite a surprise. So it's long. Don't don't kid yourself jack. Knifed mini series has parts could have been released in parts. My first input. If you will is i feel like i. Keep reading the quote snyder cut. That snyder wouldn't release in two thousand seventeen and i would argue that. I don't know this is i. Don't think this is at all what would have been released for so many reasons. It's a it's a post weeden post tragedy post. Hbo max snyder display. I don't think we would be able to release a for. I could be wrong. A four hour epic in a theater in twenty seventeen. I don't obviously say that. There are many teaser. There are changes are subtle there. Some people have pointed them out and in terms of very subtle and different. Like stolen changes. That i think are in there now. For example there's a billboard others billboard in the city at some point in the messages you're not alone and a lot of people have guessed that something that snyder put in in reference to his daughter. Like these little things that have been put in log away 'cause post years of reflection on it and i just don't think not content aside just the run time. I'm not sure how many people really yes for hours within a theatre. Let's do it. I don't know if we the same. i do. Think a really interesting experiment if anyone ever wants to ever play with this idea of same footage different story concept of how to edit something together. Because i started watching the josh sweden version the same evening. Don't do this same evening through off after watching case for a minute i thought you were. You said you meant side by side like you had to i. Four by three setup does allow you. I will say to have it on the side of my screen. As i was like doing some work so i will say the former three at least helpful in the arrangements of your browser window because like i'm not cutting anything off because it's not a letterbox or other format so the four by three is is is makes it easier to have the size. No i tried watching the conversion right. After some of the scenes giving away some of the scenes that feel pivotal in the story. Line are like thrown in the credits. The opening like oh i get with. This is going to do you. I don't know if i can sit through

Best Moments of the Golden Globes 2021

"Think of the globes as an entertainment event that are really big. Audience still watches in part because a lot of people see it as the kickoff for oscar season. Let me just say if you're queasy about these awards being granted any weight at all you will get. I think no argument from us. That is certainly not our position so to the degree that they mean much. There certainly were some good property. Some good movies and television that were honored Start with nomad land. Which one sort of the top top movie prize. Best motion picture drama and also best director for chloe jau. We just covered this Recently on pop culture happy hour so we don't necessarily need to rehash that whole thing but we were big fans. I loved seeing khloe jowl win. Yeah yeah The top prize for a motion picture. Musical or comedy went to borat subsequent film a movie that i like to say not for linda's but i know people who who love it really love it also winning for that was sasha baron cohen who won best actor for a musical or comedy. The best actor in a drama this one delivered one of the best moments of the night for sure that award went to chadwick boseman for my rainey's black bottom boy that was that was quite a moment accepting the award on his behalf was his wife. Taylor simone lead word and look the globes are trashy and meaningless and then something real happens out of nowhere and that was a really effective speech and a really effective moment in an evening. That felt shambolic in chaotic. Otherwise something beautiful something inspiring something that would amplify that little voice inside of all of us that tells you can tell you to keep going calls you back to what you were meant to be doing. At this moment in history he would think it kind of felt similar to the moment of that whole series of heath. Ledger getting his posthumous awards for his role in dark knight and it felt really earned and it didn't phillips just because he had passed away like this was the role of a lifetime for him and i'm really glad to see him being honored in that way. Yeah it was a very very moving speech. If you didn't see it. I encourage you to seek it out. It's all over the place that award. I think was wonderful to see not too surprising. One that i think was surprising was Andrew day for the united states versus billie holiday aisha. You saw this to the surprising not too much. I think that there was a lot of buzz for her. And i think that it was more likely she was going to win award for this. Then she might be to win for an oscar if she were to get an oscar nomination but she does a really great job of sounding like billie holiday without sounding too much like her like. It's feeling like mimicry. And she is by far the best thing about the movie and we'll actually be covering it in our tomorrow so everyone can check it out fantastic. I'm extremely excited. I haven't seen it yet. In addition to that the first award of the night actually in of of presentation was daniel. Columbia for judas. The black messiah. They had a little glitch with his audio. You know they were figuring it out. We've all had that glenn said the motto of the pandemic was going to remind your muted. It was a little bit of a mom. You're muted kinda moment. But i was not surprised that he that he won that he's wonderful in that movie. I think you didn't pay on. Is this on. Is this on a cool cool. He really is. And it's a solid win. I mean like he started speaking and you heard millions of voices crying out. You're on mute. Dan mute and i think that moment should make the montage in years to come if there is still a golden globe sincere to come because who knows but like that will be the most emblematic acceptance speech of two thousand twenty one easily that will crystallize this moment in time.

"dark knight" Discussed on Krypton Report: The Supergirl Podcast

"So let's talk. Let's take back actually and just kinda briefly talk about you know dark knight death metal really was and i've said this the crisis series level event that nobody really saw coming. I mean we should have learned because metal itself ended up being a much bigger like story because it felt like metal much larger impacts on the dc universe as a whole. I mean metal felt like it was gonna be this little thing to the site. Scott snyder self contained but then we got the batman who laughs or he who laughs or lasts you know schnee god the more titles he frigging permeated everything. Nude anything connected the batman justice. Yeah you know so we did this character and it becomes something cemented in the entire world of dc has been one of those characters. That's really become you see it in merchandise. You see like what do you call. You see a lot like you've seen a lot of like it was one of the earlier mcfarland figures you know so it's like it's not like this character had time to really grow round for a couple of years now and so metal became this huge event. It was really cool book. I'd like to revisit. There's so much kills about tenth metal metal being saying for nine hundred metal and then you know the tenth metal. The dark verse. Which in my mind. I was kind of like the dark multi-diverse like the way they talked about college on. Stranger things were like say. Yeah so you have neighbors. And then on the upside down the dark multi-diverse which is the same start. How many how many stories have we had in elsewhere. Where superman has gone bad and all powerful being like superman has gone bad. Well this is like this is like. You're the batman who laughs is like grant morrison's back god in jail la. You know what i'm saying. It's it's back. God gone bad. It's like what when bruises prepared for every eventuality like. That's that's that version of batman gone gone the way of the joker and then i mean think about the i team the very first thing that we got when the new batman and superman thima it was all about the infected from the batman who laughs and i mean scott. Snyder kind of took his own series. You know dude. I'm televised can. I've said the snyder. If you look at scott snyder and he'd say scott steiner fusing but if you look at it if you read. His batman run is is entire batman. Run you read. Batman and robin no wait. Robin eternal really read back any terminal truly believe that was going to be his next arc like he had stuff planned. He was ready to go a decade. I swear in just batman because if you think about like fifty two books would. They made batman eternal and it really kind of felt like the third volume of his quarterback story. But then you take that series and then you bring out his last night on earth that he did right that feels like that connect and then you look at metal and death metal like i feel like he's had to read the article with him he's had to do some re tweaking here and there with what was doing but i really feel. He had this huge through line to do for his characters. Yeah i mean like quite a lot of it was connected because like some of the stuff. I read from different. Different crossover is and some different books. Because i haven't read all of. I am not read all of his run. I read a little bit of his batman. Run and. I have not read batman eternal but i read the last night but some of the things i read. They you see threads picked up in different books. Like in the future like his His last night on earth buck you see stuff. Pick picking up right there. So so yeah. He's definitely had a lot of a lot of threats. You know a lot of things that he bought a seeds that he planted and picked up and picked later he did while the announce yet when when you got books that like we were talking about benefits. I mean how how much was unresolved in twenty eight issues in two different books that he did not. I mean it's not like he planted seeds and picked him up. It was just everything was drug out. It was it was it was done in a much different way. It snyder did it very well. All right well. That's kind of a little bit of ischia metal that i can remember so i have here an. You did a lot more reading on death metal than i did but i have read all. I read every every issue. All the all the one shots tie-ins. So i have here before me Death metal the seven issues. And i have a couple of the alternate covers because it sold out quickly. Usually don't buy a lot of very covers but what's interesting is very covers. Used to cost more anymore. Just the same price as it depends if they're they're the if their regular variants they're the same price but if they're a card stock variant it's dollar more. That's what i thought. But as far as e like so for very covered for seven that's all he had left in stock. The barely any at the very cover for four. Which i like because it's the superbowl prime cover and the very cover for three of supergirl which is weird but cool. So and then i have. As far as tying retires. I got was i- bible secret origin. So I'll be there even any sort of soldiers supposed to select. It's just down here. Cultural, historical and artistic importance. Since the registry began in 88. They have 800 movies already. That seems like a little. You're watering it down. You know we could register your movie. Technically, it actually fits just father's qualifications. First of all, it's historic. Yes, it's artistic and its cultural. Absolutely. We make that happen. I want my movie and also the blues brothers got in and you can tell you I've never seen the Blues Brothers weird. 2020 Fall Movie Preview

"Hi everybody I am Peter Travers and welcome to this special edition of Popcorn where creed you all the movies opening between Labor Day and New Year's Eve I know wait what aren't we in a pandemic Will really be moved this fall and theaters to show them in I mean the answer to both those questions is a huge. Yes. Sixty two percent of all US theaters are open now and there's going to be more to come covid permitting, of course, and those movies that can't make it to the multiplex will be available for rental or streaming in sickness and in health people, you can't keep a good movie down. So let's start with the blockbusters that are out there. Number one is tenant. Brain Teasing epoch from Dark Knight Director. Christopher. Nolan. That's geared to fire up the fall season and in theaters and with your mask and distancing in place you can strap in for this kind of Christopher Nolan throw ride and watch the spy master he's played by John David Washington give James Bond a run for his money you know you just have to. Get your head around the physics in this movie. Maybe don't know about how you can go forward and backwards in time at the same time I don't know either I was a little confused by that but you'll be glued to the visual miracles that are on screen here every cent of tenants two, hundred, million dollars production budget shows up onscreen Eisele popped. Jaw dropped pulses. Oh, pound all that good stuff movies and back baby. So what else do we have? We have Moulin which is out there right now and you'll check in Disney plus to watch this because it's not in theaters but you can rent it and you could see live action film of the Disney animated hit about a young woman who disguises. Herself as a man to replace her sick father in the Imperial Army the new moon is not musical and there's no comic relief from eating Murphy as the Voice of a fast talking dragon named Moo Shu. This is not that kind of movie. There's no whitewashing but using Western actors in the drawn from Chinese legend and as Rouland the astounding Lou ye. Leads in Asian cast that includes martial arts icon jet. Li is the emperor up and China's leading actress Gong Li as shape shifting witch who teaches on how to survive and prosper in a man's world. Look move on is not your typical princess. She's a warrior fighting for her place in the world prepare to be well. Next up wonder woman one, thousand, nine, hundred, eighty, four, the sequel to the two thousand seventeen smash that made a star of Gal. Gadot, remember her places the DC comics immortal wonder woman into the cold. War where she does battle with the media tycoon played by Pedro Pascal and the villainous Cheetah played by Kristen Wiig always to me an asset in any movie Chris. Pine also returns Steve Trevor The American. Pilot that one woman loves I know didn't he die the last time during World War? One people you gotta go with this this is Hollywood. So if we can borrow wonder woman's last sube truth for a moment, credibility isn't the issue here. It's the show stopping stunts engineered by returning director Petty Jenkins executed by Godot, and she's a formal Israeli military structure. So you know you're in for a really good time. Next up is black widow look wonder woman has competition already. You know we've been waiting since spring for Marvel to let its first solo black widow epic out of storage and into theaters. Now, the wait is over Scarlett. Johansson is back in action as Natasha Romanoff Aka black widow. She's the Russian assassin with no superpowers road just skills she's like the female Batman this Prequel looks back, Arjun story in it's a doozie forints pugh is there as Natasha, surrogate says sister and Rachel Vice is the leader of this black widow organization. It's not just one black widow you can become a black widow tells witness business. So Watch your back wonder woman next up candyman there's nothing like the Primo horror. Film to get us all back in the dark of a theater where we can scream bloody hearts out behind a mask of course, end with get outs Jordan peele writing the screenplay. This direct sequel to nineteen ninety two's cult fright fest stars Watchmen Emmy nominee Jadu Martine the second as a visual artist drawn back to those housing projects in Chicago's Cabrini-green where he was born now the whole place is gentrified beyond recognition but the green is still haunted by Candyman Tony Todd an urban legend who still kills anyone who summoned him by saying his name five times. Okay. Altogether now with me candyman candyman candyman candyman candyman, we did it. So I'm looking around here to see if some him up. Okay next up no time to die look no red blooded movie Fan is GonNa Think of missing Daniel. Craig's fifth and final outing James Bond you know for my money Craig and Sean Connery are in dead heat for the best bond ever. This one directed by Kerry from Gonzaga who did true detective from Script Co written get this by sleeping bags phoebe Wall Rich Daniel Craig asks for her because he really wants a little feminist touch to this. This is the. Twenty fifth, all seven Cape and you know this is a record and we're GONNA lose Daniel Craig. But in the movie James Bond's been retired for five years and he gets called back in. You know that's what happens to everybody from the Godfather on. You know Bohemian Rhapsody oscar-winner. Rami ballot plays the facially scarred villain named SAFM and he's described the director as more dangerous than anyone bond has ever encounter. Man How about you?

Everything we know about The Rock's antihero movie 'Black Adam'

"Okay, So the rock, right? I'm already interested. No, right. This is I mean, this is dark too. I think and quote unquote heavy. So are you familiar with black Adam? I am not so black. Adam is a fictional character who appears in the DC comics. And I guess he first appeared as a one time villain. For the first issue of the Marvel family comic book in like 1945, but Black Adam was revived. Ah has a recurring character. After D C comics first licensed and then acquired faucet characters, blah, blah, blah. Then it just goes, they begin publishing what was the captain? Marvel family stories? And she exam so it goes back to all of that, and he was a corrupted ancient Egyptian predecessor of Captain Marvel. Okay? So black, Adam fought his way to modern times to challenge the hero and his Marvel Family associates. But now he's been redefined by DC comics writers. And so he is going to be black Adam, who is ranked as whose I G n Idea. It's like a movie website. OK, 16th greatest comic book villains of all time. So so he's going to be a villian. Interesting. Well, you know what in wrestling fans will remember this aboutthe rock? He plays a great A great villain because he was hell for many years, meaning like a bad guy, okay? And and he was fantastic as a hell still likeable, Which makes him sort of like an anti hero, but but really, really good. So So if you're having trouble thinking, we'll wait. The rock is always so winsome and always the good guy. He could play the bad guy in a way that there will be some people rooting for the bad guy sort of not Not in the same way in terms of what the performance will be like. But you know, Heath Ledger's turn. Is the Joker in the Dark knight. You're You're like you want another joker senior, like, Bring back the Joker. I want to see Joker get ultimately you're hoping for good to win out. But I wonder if the rock as a quote unquote villain will have

Dunkirk Awards

"Welcome to film spotting, we will get to our Nolan Review Awards. Later in the show, we might have an for those awards picked out by. Then we might not. We will share our awards for favourite supporting performance and lead performance from this retrospective of the work of Christopher Nolan will also share our picks for best Nolan moment in the overall best moment or seen after we have revisited all ten of Nolan's films and that will culminate with our Christopher Nolan rankings. The definitive Christopher ranking for each of us one to ten will there be some shifting Adam Gimme a tease. Shifts definitely from the last time, I posted a Nolan ranking on letterbox. There's been some movement Yep me too one I think you'll like I don't know if you'll like it enough, but you will like it I though the World War Two movie from Christopher Nolan that we didn't know we needed dunkirk. The enemy tanks stop. Why? Why waste precious tanks when they can pick from the. Barrel. Their full hundred thousand men only speech. Your position. Josh, coming into this rewatch was that done kirk is Christopher, Nolan's best film and there's at least one longtime listener and regular commentator who agrees with you that we are culminating this overview triumphantly with the filmmakers greatest achievement Adam Grossman in Vancouver says like many of us. I've completed my Christopher Nolan Review. Biggest takeaway hoover is a really hard were dispel. Well, second takeaway. I've decided dunkirk is Nolan's career highpoint while my heart loves interstellar the most good on you Adam and I. Hugely Admire. and. The Dark Knight for what they meant to Action Cinema and Superhero movies respectively dunkirk is his masterpiece got laid down for you tenant. I just don't know how anyone could argue that the legend of dunkirk could be told any better the setup and the first eight minutes alone from the falling paper from the sky to the distress. Cry of where's the bloody air force is a wonder of a short film. In itself, the lack of dialogue works perfectly for what this movie wants to achieve with. Hans. Zimmer's relentless scored doing all the audio work that's necessary among all the chaos. There are frequent moments of grace. Kenneth. Branagh face as Commander Bolton as the cavalry arrives in the form of the civilian vessels the empathy as Peter Tells Killian Murphy's PTSD soldier. The young George will be okay and no moment more than the shot. Be Okay and no more than a shot of Tom Hardy's planes silently gliding over the beaches of dunkirk knowing his job has been done. dunkirk is also uniquely Christopher Nolan Movie One where his signature use of time has never melded together better and more cohesively than it does in the final twenty minutes of this film while Dunkirk will understandably never be a wholly enjoyable or easy rewatch. It's one that gets richer and richer with repeat viewing. Now, Adam Mention Nolan signature use of time, and that is one aspect of dunkirk among others that certainly connects to his entire body of work. But there are other aspects that Mark Dunkirk is unique. It is only film that is based on historical events, which means it is inherently rooted in the past and yet I'd argue it is only film that truly feels present tense meeting there are no. Dead parents or wives or forsaken children or other tragic events haunting the air's barrier played by Tom. Hardy the Moles Army private Tommy fiene whitehead or for the most part the sees Mr Dawson played by Mark Rylance like all Nolan protagonist there's plenty of personal sacrifices on display but no guilt no sense of futility about toning past actions just the seemingly futile need to survive the current event that they. Are Tragically experiencing here's something else that argues unique about dunkirk as we every other commentator on Dolan's work is discussed in some form or fashion for all those dead parents and wives and foresaken children. There's nothing so emotional or borderline sentimental in any of his previous films as the climax of inception and yes, mileage may vary there which led to interstellar and not only mcconaghy's crushing breakdown watching twenty three. Years Worth of miss video messages from his family but the verbalize message love is the one thing we're capable of proceeding that transcends dimensions of time and space. Maybe we should trust that even if we can't understand it, it's hard to imagine any character in previous Christopher Nolan movies saying something like that which led to Dunkirk am I crazy josh this is his most blatantly sentimental and even heart film. And if so is that what establishes Dunkirk as his best its balance of coldness the sober portrayal of the hell of war of life in the misguided choices, some men will make when facing death with warmth. In the compassionate inspiring choices some men will make to maintain a way of life. So a lot of subtleties in that question and you're onto something so you're not crazy I think I would distinguish. The word blatantly, I. Don't think this is blatantly emotional or moving, but I do think you're onto something in the fact that it is maybe his most heartwarming in where it ends up and let me kind of try to parse those. You're right as long as the Nolan Canon has convulsing McConnell. Interstellar is going to be his most blatantly emotional I mean you can't have a scene like that without registering that on it surface. That's his most emotional movie. But I will also say that I find Dunkirk to be his most emotionally affecting movie maybe even more. So than inception, which we about how I did find that very moving especially in the character of Mal. So yet dunkirk is really a unique thing even as it's working within the strands and trends that we have been tracing in Nolan's other films, I. Think the heartwarming aspect is probably a part of that. You've nailed it there in that it brings us to a place that. Is One of Constellation and I think it's earned because I think up until that point we have just been suffering alongside all of these other characters in so many ways and we've also been recognizing as the movie does that this is You know a an account of a military failure, a huge defeat and so for the movie to kind of offer, some sort of solace at the end of that I think is. In proportion and well

Christopher Nolan's Sci-FI Thriller 'Tenet' Delayed Indefinitely

"Off Hollywood's calendar indefinitely. NPR's Bob Mondello reports They have a season killing ripple effect when the rest of Hollywood was backing away from opening dates in May and June. All I have for you is a word, everyone in the business put their faith in Christopher Nolan sci fi thriller, It'll open the right doors. Some of the wrong ones. Two doors tenant needed to open our in multiplexes. All the movie studios have been pushing back theatrical openings over concern about the pandemic, with some titles, even jumping straight to streaming. But Warner Brothers and director Nolan, whose blockbusters inception, Dunkirk and the Batman Dark Knight trilogy have made billions of dollars on the big screen were adamant that there $200 million thriller would be the 10th pole that would hold up the summer moviegoing tent. When theater chains got open, they said tenant would bring the crowd is about survival for theater owners. It is about survival all through the spring, Nolan and Warners held firm. That they would premiere tenant in cinemas on July 17. But as it became clear that theater chains would not be fully opened by this past weekend, that date slipped first to July 31 then 2 August 12 and now Warner's has taken tenant off its release calendar, promising to quote share a 2020 release date. Imminently Endquote TheStreet. Dio also said it would not be giving tenant a traditional global day and date release industry speak for opening all over the planet at once. Warner's didn't specify what a nontraditional release might look like. That part is a little dramatic Speculation in film circles has been that given the rising number of covert 19 cases in the U. S, and the flattening of curves elsewhere. A studio might try premiering tenant overseas, Christopher Nolan blockbusters tend to do 2/3 of their business in foreign countries and some major territories, South Korea, Japan, China and a few European markets have been re opening cinemas predicting box office grosses in that sort of fragmented here, and their release, though, would require a crystal ball or the abilities of the film's leading man with a future. Inversions without those powers. Let's just note that in China and South Korea when cinemas have reopened, they've done so with stringent social distancing protocols and fewer Showtime's to allow for deep cleaning of auditoriums. Theaters operating at, say 30% of their usual capacity will not be turning out a lot of box office records. That will also be true at cinemas in the US and of course, some of the biggest movie markets here are still in one form or another of lock down. It would be unprecedented to premiere a major blockbuster and not play New York or Los Angeles on opening weekend. But right now, A lot of things are unprecedented. Bob Mondello NPR news

What It's Like Inside The 'Autonomous Zone' Near A Seattle Police Precinct

"There's been a very rough stretch for America but there's good news there something that I feel like we can all laugh at together it's happening over in Seattle I have to admit I'm now turning from bin Usman to amusement as a as an autonomous zone they're going to Capitol Hill autonomous zone has been set up in Seattle protesters have taken over apparently six or seven block radius in Seattle I have declared their own states if you put aside and says you are now leaving USA not getting the Capitol Hill freeze on the call the autonomous zone as a protester occupied zone okay sort of like the occupy Wall Street routine we saw a few years back about twenty tenth and it is going to end up exactly the same way it happened because the police were told by mayor Jenny Durkan to essentially withdraw from the area and to see the area to the cops and it's turned into a raucous comedy almost immediately now I think that a lot of people across the United States are feeling that things have grown out of control just a little bit but no matter how much you believe the police brutality is wrong and everyone has good believes this and about how much we racism is wrong and you don't have to protest Julie the racism is wrong it's kind of weird that we are now talking openly about a complete takeover of a major part of the major city by protesters against the police were apparently according to cops some extortion is going on testers have built walls that they've gone full trump guys not full authoritarian according black right they built walls not getting they actually built a wall to keep people out they took over the east precinct in jail police department called the Seattle people's department which is not I'm really enjoying this live showing on continuous loop of the dark knight rises it's really exciting stuff they set up physical barriers we have armed people patrolling the physical barriers apparently they are stopping and frisking people were entering I'm not kidding about this they're stopping and frisking people who are entering and this was to get rid of the cops guys this is to get rid of the evil horrible Seattle police department and immediately upon that happening people in there like oh you mean now there's power that's up for grabs it turns out that energy is usually a pretext for Tierney chaos is usually a pretext for terrible people taking over and so according to multiple reports socially world you were going to skate from New York have to skate from Seattle we're gonna send in snake plus can do that I mean all that has to happen here is for is for Air Force One to be down inside the Seattle autonomous freezone for things to get really wild so here is exactly what went down I'm going to I'll appointed over hot air apparently CLP cracked down hard on protesters on Sunday night despite their having giving a speech earlier that day calling for de escalation in order to lower the temperature the weeklong blockade by the police in their east precinct was lifted and demonstrators were allowed to March past but that's not all apparently they were afraid that the writers were gonna burn down the police precinct so instead the cops in the National Guard to pulled out of the building entirely by Monday afternoon they removed all the women in the files the board the place up and they left and thus was born a new nation the Capitol Hill autonomous zone or Chas for sure the country of jazz a place where progressives can indulge in some of the most humiliating stereo type of left wing protest on culture according to reports by early Tuesday demonstrators had established a perimeter with improvised barriers and deputized doubts in the afternoon the No capo up popped up swinging kebabs snacks and free water to passers by I teach ins where was established at the intersection of wealth and fine when you like a full mouse review here tents were pitched near the precinct where people are encouraged to stay throughout the night or even just for two or three hours to hold the space by nightfall they built their own outdoor cinema the crowd was energized to build connections people spoke about investing in black owned banks I vesting from corporations and prison reform one speaker issued a warning about the American legislative exchange council vote a group of usually white men from major corporations we don't know our issues and make laws protesters hold a banner on east precinct at red property of the people according to Kaelin o'connell which is one of the local stations and there are plenty of photos available there's even a map replete with labels like regime occupied safe way regime occupied safe way solid stuff guys really good stuff
