"Your music correct. Craigslist ad said young young female hot and heavy. I said this is. This is only one responded that you were going to get this infinitely beautiful intelligent very driven creative young lady who just rocked your world as true. I like that well. We did meet with music and the story goes like this. Oh bernie and i have kind of sort of known each other for a long time when we were kids we Went to the same church. So we we sort of hung out that way but we were. you know. we're quite a bit difference in age. We that older musician guy parents get watch out for that well. I'm i'm older by number. But my my maturity. Level i matured. He level is definitely younger than yours. But so we met but we weren't really friends we just knew each other's families so what happened. Was we had a gig that we were supposed to play at the dark county fair big local fair and greenville ohio. It's a big deal to our local residents here and so we were supposed to play their gazebo. Which is a pretty big. You know a lot of people come out for it. It's a pretty big thing and as a young band this was like a big deal for us and our drummer and our other guitar player kind of we had a falling out. And we kinda like other band. I was playing in broke up. And i needed a drummer so i started asking around. And somebody said hey. You know britney is playing drums now. You should ask her. Maybe she'd want to. And i was like britney's playing drums. Ooh little britain show. She was You were you know younger than me but you were what sixteen over sixteen and so we had our over to practice me and another friend of mine joey and he was still in the band with me and we started plan and basically we just clicked really well. She was She was never played with the bands. This was the first time and so she was working on the kinks out but her her solid plane was so amazing and so we were just like we should use her so we did. We played that gig and that kind of sparked our friendship and became close friends and and over the next few years our relationship blossomed and just became almost like we were kind of inseparable for a long time especially music. Music was always the foundation of our relationship and then later blossom into more as we're all things star as friends you know. I always loved hanging out with her because she was so different than my other friends. She was calm and peaceful and passive and she was just she was just there to hang out and have fun and she you know there was no strings attached. Do's good listener and good and always treated me with kindness and respect and i eventually when the time came. It was like well. Hey i kind of like you more than just friends. We should you know. Let's see see where this goes and sixteen years later. We've been married and three beautiful kids and lots of good stories and lots of bourbon brittany. I know shannon's big mushy mushy softy. At heart does he write. You love zones. What i yeah he does. And what's funny is. There's there's so much noise in the house between him as a kid. Music planner or the kids have harmonicas or whatever it is like. They're just always making noise because he's always. I don't think a day goes by. He doesn't play something and even if it's only for thirty second clip. He's always making some ridiculous lyrics about what's happening literally at the moment or what color pan somewhere or the kids are running through the house like. It's always some kind of a song. But yeah i would say i find those love songs but yeah you do. You do write a of love songs. Girl wrapped in love lovey-dovey. So that's awesome to see that musical fiber bring you guys all together as a family the kids. I know the kids all are inspired and motivated by your oldest daughter navy being a member of your musical group now a senior and coming into her own musically so it's really exciting to see how that energy plays out throughout your relationship throughout your family lives. Yeah but it's a special thing. We don't try to push our children into anything specific interested in just because you're musical doesn't mean your kids are going to be that way but navy and i always. She always had always loved to sing and i have videos of us on our kitchen table. Seen on the kitchen table or were singing ryan adams songs and four five six years old just singing in teaching her harmonies at that age. And she's just so good at it now. I wouldn't tell her this. But i think she's. She's definitely better harmonize than i am. She hears it immediately and she just really impressed me with the new record that we just did. She just came in in the room to grammy award. Winning people one a musician producer and set right there and saying the songs with us wasn't nervous. She nervous but she didn't let it show and she came in and just Just with the big boys fifteen year old kid you know and i think that's it's hard to do. I mean i've been doing this a long time but i was nervous songs. Because you don't want to make sure you don't wanna producer. Think you're a hack. You know and i always say fake it till you make it i. I'd be a great discussion to have to see that filtered through the mind of a fifteen year old just jumping in and getting your feet wet and in would be producing music. It'd be an interesting insight to get from navy from your own experience. You know the two of you how you've recorded. What five six full length albums together now. Yeah different different groups but yeah different groups at least well. There's three there's four that winds five This'll be six. It's been number so this is number six. Yeah i thought. I had that drags so and you've went from predominantly recording your own music early on into working your way up through smaller studios in now this big leap to grammy awarded producer. Who's worked with some of the biggest names in the business. How do you mentally and emotionally deal with that kind of adjustment Well i definitely was. I was nervous when we got the call to work with mark in the thing was we sent out five different producers. We sent out emails to and within twenty four hours. We had three responses said. We want to work with you in all three of them. Were grammy winners winning producers. So so that made me feel like okay. It's not just a fluke. Obviously we have something here with these new songs. Just huge and i think we picked mark solely based on The fact that i've always been a fan of daniela. Noi and him. They were together for so long and they've just create such interesting soundscape. I mean they are they are they are the i would say the inventors of the soundscape on a record. I mean those early youtube records and aaron neville and neville brothers. Just there's some great crates sounds and it's like i want. I want to do a record like that. I wanna record. That doesn't have tools. All over it. Cut has cut and pasted one hundred times. And you're getting perfect. You know everything. I wanted a record the captured moments. And that's what we did. We went in and we we stripped it down and we kept it simple and that leap from a studio where you go in and you just do one thing a day for yeah This was so much better after the first couple songs after we got the sniff and out of the way we got the whole Couple dogs feeling each other out of warm comfortable environment. We had this little. We took the garage of this home that we rented in mark And i turned it into this. Just fantastic Little creative space. We actually use the garage because the house was just shaped the oddly and it wouldn't work so he to do in the garage. And i thought you're out of your mind you're going to make an but that's that's his thing. We made the whole garage. This beautiful tapestries on the walls and and we put rugs down and and we just made a space and then it was just like we were creating. It was like the first time in my honesty. The first time ever that i've ever been in a studio that can honestly feel and say that i wasn't there recording as much as i was there creating and i was it was such a special thing and i'm very proud of it and you know every song is a perfect vocals. Be better absolutely. I mean most of those most of the songs are one or two takes live. So they're not gonna sound like if i sing the same line a hundred times but that's okay because anybody that comes in produces something that's so perfect and then goes and plays it live. It's deceiving because it's a let down there. There's a few people that can pull off a record that they do like that live very few and takes a large crew people and we're just three people so it's gotta be a cool experience. You'll here you're working with this. Grammy level producer. You know you had to have a moment at least where you said. Wait a minute you know. What the hell's this guy thrown us in a garage. Those guys grammy producer. Large amount of trust.
