Because today, we're gonna talk about beauty diversity, fashion culture, and everything that I love especially about owning who you are. And today, our guest is someone who's near and dear to my heart. She is not only a style icon in the making. That's right. I haven't said your name yet. So they don't know who you are yet. Also, she's a UNICEF ambassador. She's baked breaking boundaries left. And right. But I I wanna let you guys know to come and comment we want you to be a part of the conversation. Go onto Twitter, go on Instagram pretty big deal. Also, you can go onto the anchor app and leave me a cute little voice message. So you have seen her on the covers of teen vogue on the covers of allure and glamour having missing. Oh my gosh. I love the hype. Unlike who's? She grew up in Kenya. And now she's here in New York City, but she doesn't live here. And I'm trying to get her to move here. Halina eight. Hi, first of all you just flew in this morning. Yes. And why you're lying. You could keep me. Are you ever going to move to New York? Are you offering? I mean, okay, come stay with me. I'll room we can literally get into this. I think because every time I see you. I'm like moved to New York. And then you say when we get that move to New York moolah, then we're going to move. Good girl luxury in Minnesota. Okay. So Halina, and I I met at misuse say. And it was in Vegas, and we had this podcast kind of video that we had to film. I forgot what publication it was for whatever. I remember Cozma. Oh, it was. Okay. And it was you me and misuse the current miss USA and some other people, and we just had a great time. I fell in love with you. I thought you were the cutest little thing ever, and we just had fun. And then we stayed in touch. And now I've seen you at during fashion week. I'm even seeing you when we're both getting paparazzi following us. Away you need to tell everybody. Those tips are near and dear to my way. What did I say again because I was trying to tell my friend the other day. So I was like standing, and I don't know I had like a thirty minute session with the paths. And then I was like, okay. From this angle locate lower lower, take it from this angle, she was you walked by not even walked by grow you ram by. And I was like oh. And then you call me in the elevator on your girl. Let me give you advice. Want them to want more? You don't give them everything you just walk pass. And then like that gives them like I was like, okay. I'll try this. I'm not gonna lie those pictures when Iran I was like. No, thank you. I can supermodel now going to do that. I'm gonna take my time concentrate on my pose. Oh my God. It was terrible. I totally forgot to tell you that my favorite assistant in the whole world is right over here. Yes. This is Dr sell her name is Dr SABA we call her Darcy Lynn. Her husband made it up. Yeah. So when we were in Italy together, which we were just in Italy to go there, which was so much fun coma. I know so beautiful. I had gone to know you a little bit more even because he's had to spend more time together. And I didn't realize that you were raised in a refugee camp. And I would like to just know basically, everything and the beginning. Okay, ready? Go. Okay. So the camp, I always to be honest. I didn't know we were refugees. I didn't know what brought my mom. They're like 'cause you know, you're six you don't know what legal status is or where where you are in the country all had known as this is my home. This is my block. I was in zone A we had different block numbers. So I knew the neighborhood. Really really well, and I had a lot of friends. So you were in an actual neighborhood girl. Yes. We are little we had our own little cliques too. And. Yeah, funny story my mom used to move around the count. So we could be like more because you know, Somalis make a good number of the people that live there the population, but also Sudan people Sudanese people Rwandan like all over Africa dopey Byan, so early on my mom, moved us to like different places. That's why when I was reading your book. And I was like yes, I understand that like, but mine wasn't as like like yours like actually moving onto say. My in different different homes. Also, just completely different countries. Like, not even on the same level. Okay. We're born in Somalia, and then he moved to Kenya at six. No kenya's. All I know ten is all you were born in Kenya. I was born in a refugee camp in Kenya called Kuma and cocoon actually sent the translation of ca- Kuma in swat. He Lee is actually middle of nowhere. So it's kinda sad that they put everybody like in the middle of nowhere. But and so you actually like how you're raised in the refugee camp. I thought we were wealthy. I'm not gonna lie. Shook I found out what we were in America. Like, I did not think we were like living in poverty because those a lot says a lot right? The character of her of her family. Yeah. Because I used to be like oh today, we have a house, and then it could rain and it washes away, but guess what we're going to build a new one. And so. Early on as to be like all back back in Africa. We used to have three houses one was by the street. One was by a little tree. So I was kinda shook. But like you that's amazing because I feel like a lot of. I mean, a lot of people way people are raised. Now. It's like it's about things, and it's not about like, the heart of the home, and wherever your family was that's where we're where your heart and your actual home was. Yes. But I also do think the UN played a big role in that. Okay. So I think they did a good job like the people that live there. They really did have dignity in pride. And you know, what I mean? And also what helped was everybody was like living in similar like situation. So I think like now like the struggle in America's like, you could be going to school by fear that poor kid like, you know, you're comparing yourself to other kids like, oh, why does it my family have that big house? You know, like their parents are starting we all were like the same thing. So I think that made it easier right now because okay. So I think I got something backwards. You didn't move there when you were sick to move to America when you're six so what was that? Like. And why why don't you move to America? Okay. So we're supposed to move to Australia. It's a really long vetting process. I think people sometimes forget like in order to become a like less a citizen. We didn't just become citizens right away or get to choose where we got moved to to write. It was all luck. And also just like what countries willing to take you in actually a lot of refugees. Never leave a like they never ever get the chance to come to a developed country the lottery, right? Is it like that? Like, you you just put your name in. And then they tell you where you're going. Well, I don't know about that girl. But I I know like for our camp, we even had a which funny story, I think is still there we had a board, and they used to stop the names of like the refugees that are getting to resettle. So I remember like that was such a big deal like people would all gather up, and then like, clap and cry and like be really I never knew what it was about. I used to actually feel bad 'cause like one of my friends wants moved in. I was like why she going I want her to stay here. Forever. Meanwhile, she was moving to water life. Yeah. But you don't understand that when you're a kid are you still in touch with all of those any- anybody from the refugee camp. Very much. Well, I'm I'm personally, not okay. Put some of those folks aren't connected to the internet. Okay. But my mom a funny story when I went to I don't know why I keep saying funny story. It's really nothing. But when I was going to Kenya. She. Did I show you the list of names? She wanted me to take books back to like some of the kids that she like she knew from their medicine. You know, stuff like that some of her friends will you went back to Kenya for your shoot. I take the unlike girl the way this charter plane works. I'm allowed like a think one bag wasn't like one bag or something. I was like, oh, it cannot be taking books in. So your mom was basically like because I really do want to get into your vogue shoot. And I wanna get into Kenya. And going back because I feel like that was probably really emotional and a lot of ways. But I also wanna hear about moving to America. Because at six years old you went from a refugee camp in Kenya. And then moved to St Louis, Missouri. So then he moved to Saint Saint Cloud. Minnesota miss Minnesota so happened then what changed like why did you guys leave? Why did you leave Saint Louis? Why'd you go to Minnesota Saint Louis. Okay. The again like you don't get you don't have a say in like where you move. So when we moved from Kuchma against still you don't have a say where where you are American you do. But like when you that's the city we'd landed in. So that's the city. Was like, oh, I think we had like another family hostess for a little bit like week. I think to destroy show my mom things. Right. But it was a bad neighborhood in Saint Louis was really crime fill the streets. Look to really impoverished at night. I would hear gunshots, and I'm like, wow, we didn't even use to like really hear gunshots in the camp ever. So in a way like I felt unsafe in that neighborhood than I did in my camp because my campus mostly women children even even today. It's like sixty percent of the population is kids. Yeah. Kids everywhere. So interesting. So that's why we moved from Saint Louis to a Saint Cloud. But also like education was much better. Because you know, the community has had like had enough time to like get used to Somalis and other other people from other countries who like their kids, maybe don't speak English lighting the school system in Minnesota was a lot better. They were much more like just read. Ready for you guys to come through because. Yeah. Okay. Got it now than what was high school like because now you're now you're somewhere where you not only speak English. But there's a lot more Somalians. They're really big community. But my high school was really diverse. I feel like your high school. Experience was amazing. It was perfect. It was like I want. Sometimes I think like, oh, my like high school was really great. What's let's life going to be like, you know, because mine high school was cooker. And I know because I read your teen vogue article that you became prom Queen how homecoming homecoming homecoming, I know by my school. Homecoming was the bigger deal. It was like one week event. It was the whole debacle girl. They all. Oh, let's talk about what you were a go with. Oh, tell me everything. Oh, okay. So our school. No kidding. Was one week like one week? And when I say like a your whole school was one we of just homecoming just won't come to like every day. There was an event every day. There wasn't anything New York fashion week. It's like, no, you're. Like new you're prepare every day. One day was pajama one day was like school spirit when to anyways, that's not the I think homecoming was the first time that I realized why I'm going to have a different experience that even though like we're students we go to Apollo like I was nominated. It was my peers who picked me, but still Mike experience was so different compared to them. And it was like the first time that I really realized like we just have different we have different upbringings. Because when they when it was time for them to come to my home. My mom was like who these kids come boy. It was literally like what do you mean? You're going to tape her like waking up because that's what they do. They come over to your house at like three AM, and then they do confetti and like cheese homecoming Kliot to tell you you got nominated. So they go to all this as so aggressive until horrible. But the dorms I'm of that, they didn't usual. No, no, no, no Miami. We don't do anything. Minnesota. Raccoons and like that with you for three clean, not the Queen just that you were nominated. So it's like. Hey, my mom was like. Happening. Right. Funny story. I couldn't even do it at my house because my mom was like people ain't come in. Oh, yeah. And then I ended up finding Allah because my friend was like how else am I going to tell this dirty rat to where headscarf I sleep would like, hey, right. Like trite, right? So it was just that was like the first time that I realized like oh my gosh. My experience is going to be different. And then when it was time for my mom to parents parents to walk you down the aisle not down the aisle. The day that the Queen is announced my mom was not having it because she doesn't understand the culture. She's like, I send you to school to go. Learn get that get that diploma. I mean, you want me to walk. Jim how old are you? So do they understand basically is like the social Justice aspect of your job because you are the first ever his job to walk down the runway to be on the covers of glamour allure, teen vogue. I mean Corinne Rothfield found you. I mean like these are pivotal moments for any models career. But there's it's not you're not just a pretty face. You're not just a crow wearing heels you're not just a girl in the his job. Like, you're. They're letting other women. No who look like you that you too can be beautiful. Have they has it clicked for them negative? I'm telling you, different culture. Like, no, they don't understand my like the older people in the family. Really don't understand that concept because my mom always says why look to other people for your confidence. You know? Why don't you weren't you enough? You know what I mean? So when I tell her like representation is important like stuff like that for her. I guess she's not bothered with it because it doesn't really affect her for her. It's more. Like, why can't you be independent go to college graduate on time? Like, those are the stuff that really mattered her. But I will say like my work with UNICEF. I think that's the first time that she's truly Potter me when it comes to something around modeling with. It's a big accomplishment. Yeah. I wanna know how that even started day one. I m g like, oh, yeah. We have to save AJ. I n j. Hey, there really one of the most diverse agencies in the world. I think maybe they are the most diverse agency in the world. Yeah. So and we're there, and you're there you really am. I. Am I? No seriously. I was like when I was because I didn't know what an I am is what I am. The stand for up to today. I don't know. International modeling agency. No agency. I am g group. This quarter, you can take her interact appropriately. Now, this she's no longer to save it. But. All called endeavors because of w me. Okay. Yeah. I wanna talk about how yes we're at. I m g and we are the tokens like not at IMG. But we're the tokens when it comes to a beauty panel. We're the token when it comes to a campaign where the token when it comes to a runway. How does it feel to you knowing that you're going to be the only girl wearing a his job? Who miss Ashley Graham? I guess. Okay. When did you find out that you were? You twist is back on and say question with a question. I can answer for you. Okay. Know 'cause I'm still figuring that out. I guess for the longest time. I maybe I'm oblivious. But for the longest time, I honestly used to be like, no, I don't see myself as a token. No. Because the why why would I when are ready? I see girls are being assigned will Amina just announced that they have their first job wearing model. So I'm like am. I still the token if there's other models being signed and besides somebody had to be the first, right? No. Of course. I think to me there's a difference between the first and a token, I think the I just a staple for what we need to see in fashion, and what should be already considered norm and in media as like a a relevant thing. But then there's the token when you go in you're shooting a campaign or you're gonna runway and you're the only one and you're always the only one. Yeah. And I think that if you say no to these things you're offering you're not offering a seat at the table more everyone who's quote different like you. And so I will always say, yes, it, even if I am the only girl because I don't look at it as I'm the token, and I and I'm the only one that's going to be represented in this. I feel like when I show up I'm representing a community. So I don't take it personally. But some people do and I love to have that conversation. I mean, clearly, you don't, but you know, it starts to get kind of like strange when you only see like one of your kind or like, you know, you've looked at so many different campaigns. You've only seen one Asian one black on red Heddon. Sometimes you don't even see his job girl or you don't even see Kirby girl. So that's what I'm saying. Like does it start to affect you? Do you start to feel like I'm the token, whereas everybody else, I think for me I understand like it's. It it's probably the industry to because five years heck even two years ago. Would I still be where am career wise? I don't know if the industry would have been ready for a Hinshaw wearing model at that point. Right. Because for me like, yes, it's like I'm like any other model. Right. But also I have requirements like I can't just it just requires a little bit of like thought, I can't just show up. And where am I going to get dressed? Steed, right. Right. Because the HIV doesn't come off back stage. You know? So it's like it was a long time for I think this to happen. But also from my community, we didn't just get here. Like that. 'cause I think that's that was what was really hard for me was. And it's still hard for me. It's like, okay. If this is okay. If this is fine. Why why was I the first you know, what I mean like it's not like, maybe if it was acceptable. Maybe it was the right thing to do. Maybe somebody else would have done it already. Maybe you would see more his shop wearing a hijab models. Yeah. Like other other girls. So sometimes like that's hard for me. But I understand we're not there as a community 'cause I took a lot of backlash. I I don't think girls realized when they're like I wanna be a model. I wanna. I had many nights where I was like breaking down to Denise. Or like, you know, and it started with the pageant because that was like how I was introduced to like, right? You know what I mean? Right because you started at miss Minnesota. And and then you kind of just turned into it just no-balls like right away like Corinne. Hey, hey, girl. Hey. Come to New York. I'm sure for Mario Sorrento's like a wish I she was with more. Mario serenity. Remember, this was a big deal for like the other like. So I googled like Mario serenity. And then all you see is nude photos and then. Oh, definitely like. Oh, no. You're there. I didn't know what to tell my mom for that initial. I'm g like meeting because I think we did both combined. Like, I'm g 'cause I think I did the photo shoot even before it was signed. Okay. So I was like, I'm not if I tell my momma photo shoot. She's she might think like, oh, you're going to get taken advantage of kind of pictures. I so I was like I'm going to be like a meeting up with an agency. It's even tell her you're doing a photo shoot. No, mom. No. That one it was a hard. And I remember that first picture that dropped was like me with to actually was like a little weird because it had like a it was black leather. It was like a little like oh bladder. He. Wait, wait was it like SEM kind of high. Pella sonam. I feel like a little inappropriate in it and left it though. And I was like I really loved it. I thought it was like different than what I usually like would've worn. Right. So I think I I think I loved us an. And mario's. He's such a amazing, man. I think he's a great photographer. He is. I remember he's so funny to his like yes gimme sex. Like. Yes. My first time with Mars wrench shooting with Mars Oronte. I was I had no clothes on so uses. So awkward, I always like are you do they get off work? You know, what I feel like I've done enough naked photo shoots in my day that like I just I don't even wear a robe anymore to set. I just walked from hair and makeup to the set, but naked I know or anywhere anywhere. Just in general. I walk around my house, naked, okay, Halima. I wanna hear way more about your modeling career. But I also want to bring it to a sponsor you already know the cash app is the number one finance app and the app store what you might not know is that you can also put cash app in your wallet with the cash card. Like she hasn't won. We wanna do. Being modest and you were talking about just showing up on set. You can't you can't just take your clothes off. You can't just go and change like all the other girls on the in a runway show, what do people what do they do? They do. They like set up for you. What is the situation? They do they do exactly that. And sometimes like even for busy, like, even if it's busy busy lake a fashion fashion week right for the shows. I think that's the part that really blew me away. I'm like, oh, they could've just been like go use the bathroom or go find go find a corner, right? But instead like they built a little corner for me. It's like everybody else changes here. And then I have my own little because you know, backstage men can come only I know it gets crazy backstage runway shows hasn't I feel guilty sometimes because I'm like skirts curtain into my little corner. Like, my four cordray might have it room. Yeah. And I think even the other models like I think that was like one of the saddest things. But also it made me feel like while they're actually putting in work because one of the models was like, wow. I really wish we had that. And I was like why don't you have that? That's really interesting. I'm has it ever gone awkward before. No. I mean, even even though like, it's just I think people understand like, I'm I'm wearing a hijab. Like it does not come off. You know, it's not something like it's just presented at the runway. It also follows me backstage. So I think girls are very respectful they understand this. Great. Nobody's ever been. Like, hey, you're going to take it off. Only for deal. I'm kidding. No. The deal is so funny. None another deal. He's my favorite photographer. Bill Burr, Shah know, everybody's super respectful like that's not even a question that ever comes up is. When are you going to take it off? Are you going to take it off? That's good. So they respect to you are they respect your religious background. And that's it. Yeah. And should be model as not how I thought girl when I tell you what I'm after that meeting. I was like I don't know if I'm gonna get signed. But best believe I'm gonna do my research. I watched been binge watched all of Tyra banks. Yeah. How she said that. Yeah. Yeah. Wanted to real fan and not a real friend. No, I didn't get to your season yet. But I watched like basically from cycle one to like cycle fourteen. That's like the sweet spot, of course. And then did you learn anything absolutely not? Honey, like, that's not what we're gonna have a snake a photo shoot. You know, what I mean like stuff that I watch I'm like interests and same with like the girls. I'm I got really lucky. I think 'cause I have not experienced thank goal. There's some. There's some weird stuff that they they make them do on top model. Like one of the craziest things I ever had to do as a back bend in and seven inch heels on the Brooklyn Bridge and back Ben like literally like about. Yeah. Like gymnastics have you ever had to do anything? Crazy. Like that yet? I think from like the first five minutes that people get to meet me onset. They realize oh this girl is very clumsy. A really like she. Oh, not flexible at all. So they don't they don't make me do. But. Jump and thus very exhausting. She don't work out. Okay. So I wanna talk about UNICEF because I feel like this is like you said your mom, so proud of you. And this is a really big accomplishment. How did this all start day one? Like, I think that's the other thing too people. I think sometimes don't know why I'm so passionate about UNICEF. It's really from a selfish place. 'cause that was the organization that helps my family personally before I can even spell my own name. I could tell you the words to UNICEF. Really? So that was how personally busy Q and C I T G L E before we started. She was like, I got your book. I haven't read it yet finished one one page chapter actually, maybe three. That's okay. You can listen to it literally the audibles audio. Struggled through the pages when you could listen, and does it come in your voice. So I opened it, and I close it. I just didn't have time to do the middle. I know I know on just going to have to pretend like wait. I did do an audition, and I found the right girl and bought being a boom. Okay. Yeah. Whatever speaking of books. What are you gonna write your book? Why is your crickets in the room right now? You have so much to say, okay. I know what you can talk about in your book and one of the things you can talk about is going back to Kenya. Gimme pen paper. Everybody. No. But I wanna talk about that. Because you shot your teen. Vogue cover in Kenya. Back at the refugee camp that you were raised in. And I wanna know like what was that like girl that was the most? I don't think I've ever had a emotionally physically like that trip was probably one of the hardest. I've ever done ever in my life, and that trip I think was maybe one of the most difficult things that I had to do so much emotion because on one hand, I'm an adult. I'm going back. I'm like, you know, I got to see best the both worlds like the camp life and also growing up in America, and then going there and seeing that it's gotten bigger it's good because that means people are finding it like, you know, they don't have to suffer in silence. They don't have to stay in like war torn countries. You know, they've found a place to call home. That's safe that they know their children are going to get whatever help that they need or at least, you know, organizations are trying to do their best. But then on the other hand, it's like all my gosh. Like, my family got to leave this, you know. And I always think did I make the most of my life. Did I take any you know, what I mean because it's like. They're my age that have babies that will never ever leave that camp. So to see that that could have been me, it was just real. It was a really hard pill to swallow him. Did you feel guilty walking back and so guilty? Oh my gosh. Actually Graham, a minimum of my makeup. Okay. Who's going to touch it up for me? We've got people. No, it was it was just really. Hard. Only because their kids like literally, and they're the happiest kids that was like what was another thing. Like, I remember happy childhood. And I thought I was going crazy likes talking to all these like, you know, even during interviews people are like did you say refugee camp in happy childhood in like the same sentence because it's hard for hard for them to understand. But I was like, wait a minute. Is this some kind of Stockholm syndrome like painted over to make you feel better? But no these kids are literally like the happiest kids in the world. Wow. Yeah. They were like waving at our cars in lake. That's all they wanted to do was just be like, oh, you know, what? I mean. Did you get to see any friends that were still there or you did? Yeah. David that guy. Was there literally when I started my first day at school. So he's like is your mom still crazy? I was like still. Still. You know, because he's like she used to make me shock, which is like Somali t in. He's like she was just like a louder very loud. Very like, you know, happy lady. Are you glad that you got to have that experience with teen vogue? Yes. But also it was teen vogue. Eunice stuff was on the ground with me. And also, it was a Ted talk. You had also give Ted talk in. Oh, lord. I know. I part of me was like I wish I had more time to just be and just not do anything. But just listen and meet the people that live there. I didn't even get to go to like the protection area, it's four different for difference camps. So we got to see a little bit of all the counts. But I wish I got to go to like the schools like every little camp. Like, I wish I got to like meet people and like it wasn't enough time. It was four days. But it was like jam-packed which was perfect because that's what I can do, you know like me going there, and I could go there. I could even spend a month there like volunteer, which I wanna do. But I also recognize like I'm more useful when I get there, and I'm with like Ted and doing a talk in a refugee cab. Also, there are other speakers that did their talks there. And it was just an incredible. Like they. 'cause you know, Ted has like certain quality. I know. Funny story actually had to watch yours ISKRA because this is my home like prepping for this. And of course, like, I still got there. And I was like. No, it's hard. It's hard to give a Ted talk. Especially if you're going back home to somewhere where you've thought maybe I would never even go back to. Oh. And here you are. And you're doing a photo shoot. So can you tell me about your tedtalk? Okay. So it was cut Kuma a place of hope, you know, that was like the whole like just a my speech was no this is a refugee camp, you got that. Right. But it's also the place a hope it's where I learned to it's where I learned to be a kid and where learned to have characteristics in. I think I don't think I would have been the same person had I grown on Charlotte road. You know, what I mean if that was all I've ever known. I don't think I would have been like the same person. I am now. Good and bad. But that's what your whole talk was about was like, it doesn't matter like where you're born. It matters who you are. And how you handle your experience in the community. Like a Kuma has hands down one of the best communities like early on. We didn't have. Our school. That's a different story girl, but school in Cairo Ma. Every day. I go to school and be like a other thing teacher. That's the only thing you can say you your teacher. That's why when I moved to America. And I heard kids like talking that. I was like, oh, oh any still alive to tell to tell for happen. Right. You're like, that's rude. You can't do that. I was literally like teacher teacher. Okay. So now, I want to talk about what's going on in the country. And I want to talk about how there is so much that's been shifting in the US and other countries with refugees coming here and US denying them. And I want to hear from you. I wanted to really know what do you? What's your take on this? What do you have to say to US citizens, and and to the government? I would say I look at like my my journey, right? Like, I'm a refugee like that was that was my entire childhood. Right. But look at me not like I got into go to school here. I am a proud taxpayer haunting I will say I think when I was finally my talks the series like, I don't think I've ever had someone this. Cheerful. I was like take my Monday hundred 'cause I held like for the first time, I'm contributing like. Next thing though, right? As like, oh, wait. They do you know what I mean? Like, we're proud tax payers like I look at like the Muslims here who are like lawyers attorneys teaching your children at school. You know, what I mean like, these are these are people who are literally giving back to this community and also community back home. I don't think sometimes people realize like it's hard in a sense to be a refugee because you always have those ties back home like when I was sixteen. I was just working to pay my cell phone Bill in like for my extra money for for shoes, or whatever like most other girls. Most of my other friends, I had a family to support back home. So it's really like, hey government. Hey US citizens who essentially smart. No. But you're actually telling them like we need to let families into America. We do need to be a refuge more. Those those countries that need us because look at Lima. Listen domini other people out there that are also just thriving. And I think it's a beautiful thing. And I don't wanna see anymore family separated never a gun. And I think that's another thing too. Like, I could never picture like when you separate kids from their families. It's very Trump traumatic to those kids, you know, like that should just not be thing, you know, families need to be kept together. It doesn't matter. If it's a it's a Spanish family, if it's a Somali family, it's Ecuadorian whatever aid together, you know, what I mean that just sets them up for exploitation in abuse in their some of it or will stuff that can happen. Have you and your mom had this conversation about all the families have been separated in the in the US recently? My mom. Is definitely like I think like most most people she she she understands like kids needs to be cut with families. But also it's like for her. It's interesting, my mom, and I have these debates, and she's like, you know, part of the reason why I brought you to this country is so you could learn roll like be the independent one, man. And then also don't forget the community back home. Like, she really wants me to go back to somebody and one day in work with the kids and make sure 'cause know, brain drainage is a real thing. And I think about Somalia like we all left, but now things are changing in the country because a lot of people have gone back and started businesses there in have helped the the people still living there, you know. So it's it's more for the country. Have you gone back to Somalia never actually Graham come to Simone, Ashley Graham infield Christmas? Oh, yeah. We talked about we talked about this. I mean, I know they're not like. Or still I'm going after co let's all go. Yes. Are your vote is delicious way? I'm gonna be all been that. What's Somali food like depends on where you go. I will say though, I had stomach goat's stomach for the first time. All things stays in your hair like, oh, I had to appropriate. I don't know if I wanted to not know. Yeah. Very known. It's strange. Okay. So it's something that we do. I'm pretty big deal is we highlight a person or an initiative that's really doing something to transform their community and also the world, and I like this because it's kind of like, my hashtag woman crush Wednesday. But it's like my woman Chris broadcast. So there's a young girl her she's a Swedish student and an activist. Her name is Ellen Arrison. And she refused to sit on the airplane before they took off because there was a refugee from Afghanistan on the plane, and he was trying to seek asylum in Sweden, but he was being shipped back. And she for whatever reason knows about all of the refugees there and does not want them to be sent back. But specifically this man and so everybody on the airplane was like sit down sit down get one woman, even hit her. And then towards the end started people started standing up for her. But she did all of this on a livestream. And she's crying and she's going through all these emotions with you. And it was just incredible to have this young girl. Twenty one years old wait first of all you're only twenty years old. We haven't even spoken about the fact that you're only twenty but what twenty she's twenty one years old. And she actually is standing up for man, who, you know, this isn't going to affect her life. This is going to his life. So I I was just really proud of her. And I think she's an incredible woman. And I'm really I make you so much. Yes. Elon thank you Ellen because we need more young people like that we do. And I think social media that's the other thing right Instagram live. That's look like it's literally getting to Ashley Graham in like we're talking about this right now. But yeah, I don't I think that's like the most beautiful thing about being a young person in this day and age like I look at Yara Shahidi. Yes, you need to have her on the show. I know right down your. See young people doing amazing things done. It's sometimes that's like the most effective way. It is because she could've sat down. She could not not care. Not cared. You know, how many people would have just been on that plane known not you know, just kinda clueless. Just I know affect me doesn't affect my life. I didn't even know that you could do this legally. So I'm actually I mean, not I just going to stay up on airplanes. Standard me. I'm used to hit the gym I, but yeah. What do you call it? What what what's this part size cats, and some Cav workout just come down with me? We talked about this. We're gonna make it happen healthy living. That's what I'm all about. That's it. Okay. So don't want to be a game. Let's do it. Okay. So something I do all my guess is we do like a round of questionnaire, and you just basically have to finish the sentence. So my pockets is called pretty big deal. And I'm gonna say pretty big give you a word, and then you get to finish the sentence or something that meant something till we do an example. Yes. So pretty big silos con. Riana? Okay. Pretty big regret. Pretty big regret. Not gonna call it. Okay. Only because I feel like it's so nice to have that. I think that's something. Everyone should try to do. You know? And. This Carly costs went back to college later on. And now, she's doing coding with classy. These coating. Yeah. Exactly. Okay. Pretty big wish. See beyond say just one time even been like members just Weiss in one week one week. I think we talked about this actually Weiss in one week. I'm still like, oh, okay. Pretty big motto. I would say it's a UNICEF quote. Okay. And it's a child in need knows, no politics. I don't know why that is. So it's not what it's like, it's I don't know why that's such a big deal for me. But I think I think back to. Exactly a child in need knows no politics. You know, like when we went to Washington, we got to talk to both of Republicans Democrats because it's it should not be like a a snow. No. Of course, it's near and dear to your heart because you got here without without having to think about it. And no child should have to think about it. So right. I want to know what's going on next for you where you headed. What are you working on? Okay. So girl, you give me some ideas today. Dear diary. Back today. One. This is what happened. What happened was? Okay. So I think I definitely want to I want you to be my what's that person? Like in in the like, someone you look up to mentor. Do you want me to be your mentor? So I would probably want to spot young gladly your maximum Graham. Like your genius, not only are you beautiful. But you literally. Yeah. No, that's the one. I like a long. Oh my God. I wanna I wanna be able to do what you did for women like girl, we don't look alike, but literally stepping into this industry was released Gary, but you want one of those people that I looked up to because I'm like if she could be different as she's like owning everything that makes her unique makes her beautiful. What can I do the same with my scarf? Yup. And that that's truly the message that women like you, and I have we may be the quote token in a lot of different runways and campaigns. But the end of the day, we're just letting women are women. Let them know that they are perfect with who they are. Right. That's harder to do though. If it took you a long time, it's we'll journey still gonna she's still getting there. But yeah, we all have a journey. And I think that's why we sit down, and we have these conversations. So we can let all of you guys know that it is a journey, and it is a process. So thank you so much for being on the show today. Thank you for being here. Not only are you beautiful. Hey everyone we are wrapping up state fair season with the final state fair that takes place in the mid west now. The kansas state fair always begins after labor day. This year it begins on september tenth and it runs for ten days. My guest is ed burger. Who is the interim general manager of the kansas state fair. And we're gonna talk about the history and the highlights of the fair and hopefully we'll get a few insider tips to help you. Make the most of your visit ed. Thank you so much for joining me today. I really appreciate it. Thank you for the opportunity. It's always great to talk about the kansas state here. So can you give me a little bit of a history of the state fair When did it begin. And what what did it entail. What kind of brought people in the state together for this. you know. there's always been agricultural fairs celebrating harvest and celebrating agriculture. In general and in kansas there are really two or three locations that were vying for the state fair and really came down to to take in the northeastern part of the state at hutchinson. We had some strong legislators in hutchinson who are able to Get the state fair designated to be an johnson and that happened in nineteen thirteen but again. It was really a roach. A political battle to make that happen at did have been going strong since nineteen thirteen. Great state fair And we've had is really interesting. We've never missed having a state. Fair of since nineteen thirteen except for last year went through the great depression. World war one world. War two The polio pandemic end nine. One one and we still have the state. Fair typically Await his begins. The sad the friday after labor day and lasts for ten days now earlier in the fifties in probably by the fifties it started about a week later and then it was moved up to be right after labor day. So it's got a signifies labor labor they always think that signifies the end of summer. And after you have the end the summer you have a great celebration of harvest with the kansas state fair. That's so fun now for people who don't know the layout of the state of kansas. Where would you find hutchinson. Because i know that that's not that's not a city that's going to pop to the top of the mind when people think about kansas is is really pretty close to the center of the state And i guess a better gauge. It's about fifty miles. North west of wichita so that will give you a better sense as to word is in kansas and again it's so heavily agricultural community and of course had Agriculture terrific now. When we think about midwest state pairs obviously we are thinking about agriculture We're thinking about crops in history in animals and things like that. What would you say are the famous features of the state. Bear may be things that people come back year after year to experience or you know to to really just take part in where everybody has their own favorite. You know some people Is is really interesting. Whatever your whatever you like you tend to take in at the state fair and if you're involved in what to see a lot about farm animals why we have the north north or south western corner of the fair is really where we have. Our livestock. horses are cattle in all of those kinds of things. The grand drive some people. Just really don't get out of that area. Because that's all i want and then you've got Those of was areas that has a static displays everything from cooking quilts. And that's on the north side of the state fear. Some people just zero in right on that. Then you have commercial displays all over the fairgrounds. And that of course was always a great attraction. Or the fair gordon certainly for the vendors as well and then if you have fair food you always have that that That you could have food fried. Virtually anyway. And i'm really interested to see what kind of new fried foods will have at the furthest year in kansas. Kansas state fair popular of meal has always been the the product of. That's a dog. Dipped in corn fried. That's really been been very successful but again you can get virtually any kind of what you want across kansas state. Fear a great celebration something we just come for the for the well. You know state state fair food. I think is one of those great attractions. And i don't know about any your state but a lot of state fairs will. It's almost anticipated. Release when they when they tell you. What new fair foods are going to be at the fair This coming year. Does kansas do that as well. Kind of a big. You know these are new fare foods coming out and here's where we don't really do much of that. We have the vendors to get the word out about their food supply provide favoritism they we just encourage everybody to go to vendor to vendor. Does he wants to do and and on. Several organizations have had boost in kansas state. Fair forever We've had a church groups that of had traditional chicken noodles a church groups that had have mexican food. We've had a service clubs. Have ice cream at the bar was inle the grandstand provided by the canterbury association. That has been a mainstay in the grandstand of really as long as i can remember but his vice cream you've got Fried foods whatever you want. It's all your fantasies fear. Plenty of you don't want to come the died in your mind taking ten days off ten days off and you know it would probably be almost impossible to taste everything at the fair even in those ten days would you say would be visiting someone in this morning and that's why this said i just check off the diet this these ten days and go out wait experiment on what's new what's different what's fun and i'm sure it was loaded with cholesterol too so obviously there is a lot to do at the kansas state fair and beyond the food and the animals. I'm sure that the state fair brings in a lot of entertainment and attractions as well. Can you tell us a little bit about the types of of entertainment around the state fair. This year is going to be little unique. We're going to start. The fire out was dirt. Events dirt events. The first one on the first friday is gonna be the next gen bull riding of at and that's something we're very excited about bringing about forty goals in about thirty thirty cowboys and think it's going to be a great attraction as friday night and that we think that's a greek family event. Look for around for that then as far as the next night will have motocross of the motocross throat. Show and then that we have monster trucks and following that the demo derby so those four nights those first four nights while dirt events and again. It's it's going to be something for everybody. And then we have have entertainers will have tracy. Lawrence and logan mize opening up the grandstand entertainment. That was on tuesday and then we'll have the news boys on wednesday wednesdays going to be more proficient concert with adam meiji and then we have thirty eight special on a thursday chris janson on friday they kind of are one were headliners is going to be. Nellie was willie. Jones nelly nelly concerts can be kind of interesting. Two o'clock evenings can be two o'clock. That will jones will follow as full concert after that and then we hope those people who come for the nelly concert will stay on the fairgrounds because we have on our free stage We have a chase beckham. and so we're we're really excited about the land. We think that saturday is going to be one of the biggest saturday's we've ever had 'cause you start with entertainment at two o'clock and you don't finish up until seven thirty at the free stage was chased back so it's really exciting and then on sunday. I don't wanna send solo sewer short but on sunday. We have darcy lynn farmer. The ventriloquist will be here sunday. That's going to be an afternoon. Show coming family. Show three o'clock in the afternoon really good interest in that to read all the tickets. We just we're able to take the accident. We had booked for twenty twenty and them all over so we ray will now some people other taking their money back. Some people want to keep your tickets so it really had a jump. Start on selling tickets because some people just want those checks and keep them and it really roll forward nicely so so. We're very excited about the entertainment. All we have a lot of things happening are free Free stage two. We have a hypnotist ron. Diamond getting all sorts of other free events on stage the people's bank and trust for stage. That's fun i i like that. There's a mix of of the the paid. You know kind of marquee events but then you have the entertainment around the fairgrounds as well. Now when you're thinking about things to do at the fair obviously that comes a lot of walking a lot of eating what other what other things are. People going to find within the state fair obviously a lot of commerce. Maybe lots of of things to learn about Things like that we we call it and it's a huge event for for the state of kansas We call it a kansas largest classroom. We end up having twenty fourteen thousand students on on the fairgrounds and they can learn from everything about the go to the birthing center that we have They can go to the dairy parlor. They can look at our pollinator gardens all sorts of things as a great learning setting in environment and we have now designated building for education center. And we think there's just gonna be all sorts of exciting things happening there of. We always have new competitions twenty nineteen. We had a butter sculpting contest and that proved to be very bored. I guess people get a pound of butter stuff out of a merger. Exactly how that works and we also have a beer brewing contest as well which we have to have an advanced so those are things that again we had between nineteen people always fascinated with the large draft horses and we'll have a draft horse parade while also have some activities involving the draft horses barrel racing in that gun thing. So that's going to be really unique. And i think that's going to have appeal to him to a certain part of our audience and then of course we have to Kind of our light days and so what we've done is is four dollars after four on tuesday and thursday if you wanna come out after school or bring your family out after school. Four bucks invasion. We think that's going to be very important. Rosza gonna do some. We'd not have done before as a pub crawl Thursday evening abandoned. They'll be able to hit the various of beer vendors and try some craft roosevelt author. So it's fun thing. Of course every event like that needs of ascott. We've got ike the bison our new mascot for the kansas state sphere fear and traveling around the state trying to encourage people to come to the state fair. But i the vice is going to be new. Hope y'all all over the the Real excited about that as well. so again there's countless things to do at the kansas state fear. I think i'm just listening to you. Talk one of the things that has really struck me is the kansas has more. I i wanna say almost western culture to the state fair then you find in fairs that are further to the east you. You mentioned You know bulls and bull riding your vice in and a few other things that just really really struck me as having kind of that wild west feel to it and i think that that probably makes the kansas state fair quite unique for the midwest as well i certainly are are resurrected cultural and we have we draw heavily from the western two-thirds of the state to the state fair so there's a lot of agricultural interests. There's you again you all sorts of things. You have the governor's cookie jar. Somebody cookies ins judge being the best and we give that to the governor and then there's largest watermelon largest pumpkin. All those kinds of things. Roy celebrate celebrate. Kansas agriculture. Things have changed a bit in kansas. I'm sure they have every place. One time. He saw the state fair really signifying the end of the the fall harvest but a fall harvest continues through october pre planning of begins in october. So it's kind of a pause maybe between the fall harvest and implanting complete. So it's it's really something. That's vincent kansas fine. Now you you gave us already a couple of really great tips especially the four dollars after four and a couple of things like that. Are there any other insider tips. You might be able to share for people who are wanted on wednesday. We're going to shop to your drop. Wednesay and our vendors sell products are going to be providing specials threat individuals so they can go across the fairgrounds. You buy that great t shirt or or hat or whatever you want to buy and have a have a did a great deal audit Then there's going to be a tasting tuesday and the tasting tuesday will be involve a lot of food vendors. They'll have something special and you buy a ticket and you'll be able to various vendors sample their unique cuisine so again. There's lots of things that you there's no way that you can't say there's not something for goods estate. Fear is the med auditors. And as to parking and arriving at the state fair any advice for people coming in that may not be the million with the area we do. Have we have ample free parking east of the fairgrounds and also north of the fairgrounds and free parking shuttles. It can bring people onto the fairgrounds so they don't have to worry about walking a half mile just to get his third grand so we have shuttles bring them onto the fairgrounds and take them around the fairgrounds so like so they're ways one can again see the fair and now we're outbursts shoes. That's terrific ed. Thank you so much for sharing that information with us. Now for more information as well as deals and discounts people can obviously visit the website. Kansas state fair dot com. Are there any other places online. Maybe social accounts that people can keep an eye on as they anticipate. the state. fair are the best thing is to to go to our website and you can navigate through that and find all the events and find out. So what's happening. is kansas state. Figure terrific thank you ed so much for taking the time to talk with me today and kansas state fair one event. I hope you enjoyed this. Episode of the podcast. "And now. It's time for. INSIDE CONE And Important Hollywood podcast. You. Alot everybody welcomed inside Conan and important Hollywood podcast Jesse Gaskell I'm a writer at the CONAN show. Conan at home. Conan at Largo Mike Sweeney also a writer on Conan at Largo although we're just calling you Conan but it does add credits to my resume. I appreciate that part of it. That's very smart, Sweeney. We just got to watch. The writers of Conan do a standup show. Overdue Comedy Club called flappers and Burbank that was a great show is very funny. Yeah, with so much fun. I was really curious to see what a zoom comedy show is like I haven't have you attended. Same to say I, haven't I? Always used to say parking was the excuse but I guess it wasn't. No, but it was really easy. You just log into zoom and you can either be visible or not visible. It was fun to get out of the house. Be Zoom last night were still two drink minimum here so we're drinking something and is like. Were you drinking wine? Or what were you enjoying? I was drinking a Chris. Broza I liked that that was perfect, very nice. Yeah, PAIRED WITH MY BLUE APRON MEAL! Got, lesser. Anyway, we have a really fun guest this week. We do I can't believe we got her. It's the second newest writer on our show. Because we actually just hired another new rider with. We thought we'd give him a little time to settle in before we put them on the spot. Yes, yes, yes, but this is Glenn Bouzaiane who started with US last fall. She has a great resume should written for lights out with David Spade? I love you America with her Silverman and Adam Ruins everything. Yeah, she had a lot of great stories. I felt she a lot of great advice. Yeah, so here's Glenn. We're here with Glenn Suzanne I. Glen. I just see. Is Very formal all of a sudden. Even though we talk to you most days, right? Jill Glenn you used to be the newest baby writer and I. no longer the baby anymore because we how a new writer I know now I'm during little tantrums because I'm not getting as much. Acting out. Yeah, I've gone back to bed, wedding or attention rooted joking. Email that. Yes, you're! Joking company wide email. I know I, do forget how many people are on that company wide. It's one email address sent to maybe two hundred people. Yes, I totally forgot already employees past and present. Yes and they all know away to needle you. Served it up to the. Water I did. Let's say you are still relatively new. It feels new. Everyone feels very new at at Conan for a long time. I still feel like Tinder Hooks I feel like probation all the time. To get fired any moment. How. Yes, when did you start? Time just flows I. Have you been here five years or five months? September? I think October's twenty nine. October because I dressed up as Matt O'Brien for Halloween. The head writer. Yes, I did so. What did that involve just a boring shirt? Boring Pants and I rarely hear wig. Really the bare minimum I wore a button down shirt in my front pocket. Carry it around to tool tickets for tool handsome. He is real tool head. And I. It was spot on. That's pretty bold for a new rider. Were you like I'm? This is either going to cement my place here in Conan history or I'll get fired I. Guess I didn't think about it that much. Maybe he'd been there for a month. Already 'cause. That razzed me, so it was like Oh. This is a razzie environment. Cool also, and it was such a little hostile. I should have gone meaner honestly looking back. I don't know what else could add to that costume. He's pretty barebones I down here. And the tool tickets. That's the way. To me from. You can also go around. Telling people to meeting is canceled. That's that's. He does. Up in the you gotTA. Push meeting. How long feel when he took over just like. Oh, great or were you like? How did you feel I? I was head writer for a really long time for fifty years, and when I finally stopped doing it. Felt crate. Like I've I've filled in from a few times when he has to. You know some personal matter comes upper tools in town and. Run the show and I have to say it's like one day of doing it I'm just like Oh. God, is the worst job. Were I could never do it more than a week, so we so we know you did it yesterday and you canceled the meeting beautiful. Thank you, thank you I like a pro. Yeah, it was really great cancellation of the meeting. I thought it was wonderful. Do you like the way I waited to the? Possible asset that's already in the meeting ruined. You can't have room for it and put there. There's zoom writers meeting clothing, and that's when I. that's when I strike. Also you, it's probably still fairly fresh in your mind. I guess maybe you could walk us through. The hiring process was like it's submitting to Conan. Oh, Gosh, it was unlike any other. Executives at true. No, not really well. It was more chill than I mean. I was unemployed at the time. I think I applied in like January. Yes, I guess I didn't have a job. At the time it was January would have been your most recent comedy writing job before that I had been working freelance for a twelve year old. Ventriloquist, who had one? America's got talent and I had been ghost writing jokes for her tour. Terrace food. She was on tour for name. Darcy Lynn and she's a blond, cute little girl from Oklahoma. WHO's also a Ventriloquist I? Think she won the actor. America's got one of those. I was contributing jokes to her Christmas special I think. That! Yes. So she had a team of writers, I think it was me and a couple of I. Really. It was really freelance like. Dick I mean when you're twelve kind of jokes. Could you make? So, not the kind that I'm good at writing. Right they had to be very G. rated I think the most flavor you're allowed to write like. She was on whatever the X. factor thing she was on Heidi. KLUM was a judge. I remember there was one job she'll don't know which show that is I know I don't either. His one joke or she does. She's a mouse puppet. WHO's like very shy, but like has a crush on people I. Think is his like he's like a nerd. In love very easily falls in love. During the x factor. He had some joke about like he was hitting on Heidi Klum and he was like. Why wouldn't you want to date a mouse? You've already dated a seal. So, that was. Kind of blue. You can go, but did someone right that joke for her, I think she kind of rates, some of her own jokes, but like there's no way at twelve year old remembers when Heidi Klum dated seal. have to imagine has ever heard of seal. I know. Yeah, wow, so that was not the answer are expected to the job that know. So that was, that was the job that I had when I applied. and. Got And we're you. Did you have to consider whether you would leave that job to come to Conan? No was not. There were like truly maybe six months where I didn't hear back about the packet submitted so I had another job in between. That was just the job I had when I submitted it, I had a totally different job. After that I think that we got like four or five hundred missions, so then Matt started reading them all and realized that he wasn't gonna be able to fill it that year. Yeah so which is crazy that 'cause usually for jobs have gotten previously. A packets are sometimes read by like producers who are like non creative producers. Semi created producers. Those piles are passed on so as a write about scary where it's like. Oh, somewhat not the writer, so it's crazy to me and very cool. That like took the time to read all them personally read every tenths mission. But that number four hundred submissions is is insane. I think the most prior to that was around one hundred fifty. Maybe for our doing that in two hundred this. When I got hired, there was done. You're in. Willing, do it we'll take. please. A whole nother. What was the because? There were six months in between. The other I wrote for lights out with. David Spade recipes of the show, not not space. As of this taping as this. Yeah I worked on that, and I did leave that job for calling, but that show is no longer around so I. Think you made the right to. Feel, guilty back? To work on, but yeah. Yeah, it was tough to have to quit I mean. How long have you been at the show? When you put in your notice? Yes, so I had been there for about Oh. Gosh two three months. I think it was the first season we were maybe halfway done and somebody who is like a Lazy River of guilt, running through my body at all times, just sort of like shame and guilt for disappointing people or the possibility of disappointing people, so because Conan was very nice, and he was like look I. Don't WanNa Poach you from another show. I was like well, I. The! On the show and I loved his work for a long time, so I was like no I'd really love to work for you in. Add like to go, and so my managers like. Will you have to call the head writer of spayed and ask him yourself and I was like Oh God i. Can't do it. I know isn't that why pay you? Need, but because I respected the head writer and I thought he was really great, and I was like he was kind of like this father figure on the show tooks was the site counter Razzie? SORTA like old old old like this like a talion dad type, which like Oh, he reminds me of my dad, and like I don't want to disappoint him and. I headed. God I think it's heavier in my head. Because the head writer was so cool about it same as frank, and he was super super cool about it was like good. Luck on your journey like you're going to have a long career like bubble blood. He was very supportive so I was like shaking dialing the phone. You mentioned that Conan you talk to Conan when the job was offered to you. Know I didn't meet CONAN's. I started my job so I chuckled I off, and I left. I took it interview with Matt. O'Brien and just Kinda sat in his office and usually. Hey, like what's your deal? L. Blah I was like Oh. Let's deal like twenty minutes seemed cool and then I left and didn't meet anybody else that I. Don't think it had been heard back for a couple of weeks. Yeah, it was very easy interview, so did you think that you had gotten the job after the interview I? Thought! I think I. Kind of set it and forget it kind of mentality. 'cause I had applied so long ago probably ready for another seven months to go by. I think I was like vissel. I think I just didn't think about it at all. Which is weird for me, but they call them. I manage like they want to offer you the job, but it was like Oh. My God and then immediately. My excitement was like what they don't WanNa. Give it to you because you already work at spades, so hire somebody else. That is the the I mean. The it's always been a. we can't take someone from another if they already have a job because it's loose, the term use called poaching and yet it's generally not considered cool, so I'm sure when he called you, he didn't know he probably thought you were still working for the Trillo Quist. We're. Poaching from her right exactly, yes, that's not, she said. I similar situation when I got hired at Conan where I was working on another show and I had just started there and had to qua- you just started. Well it was I started the season two and you know it was like everyone was making plans for the whole season. Gun I I. had what it? was. It was a hello. Ross was Russell Matthews Talk. Show on e was very fun to work there, but yeah I felt really guilty. Wizard big delay between when you submitted I. Don't remember. When you submit it and you the whole land I think yeah, yeah, not as long as Glenn sometimes like people. WOULD SMITH MONOLOGUES SUBMISSIONS? Writers who just concert monologue and you'll be a couple of pages of topical jokes, and when the job position would come up, you'd be reading jokes that were over a year old. You could tell when even without the day you'd be like Oh this this was a year ago. January 'cause yeah. You know Prince. Andrew was in the news or whatever you need twenty twelve. County. So good was the first time that you CONAN dear remember that was before the first raiders meeting, or after I can't remember I think I was in Matt O'Brien's office, just talking, and then call in came in, and he was like Hey, nice to meet Ya, and then I was trying to figure out what my riff would be. Like. Who Are you? What's what's going on? What's what do you like to do? What he you trying to figure out who I was, so he could make fun of me appropriately. Did he come up with a riff for you I did it was that I was young was which unlike? Younger than him, but I'm not scholars younger than me now, so that should be his thing goes, but what was it after that Oh that I remind of Ruth Buzzy. Was One hundred. She's an old character for those of you born after nineteen fifty eight. Glenn. Do you remember what you're? The first sketch you wrote that got on the air? Yes A do. It was on my God. It was the dumbest thing. It was one of the dumbest things I've ever in it was. It was a story of there's during the news about like a priest of Scottish priest found like a treasure pot of gold underneath the Catholic Church in Scotland. And I was like that's the most Scottish thing I've ever heard in my life. Than the Church of Scotland sued him, and so the premise was like I. Wonder what that law firm was like. This isn't. Case that ever heard, so. It was just an ad for a Scottish law firm. That was just people who was Scottish. It was really funny I. Remember, thank you and that came i. feel like you wrote that on your second day on the job. It happened really quickly in my memory. Very, relaxed right away in a great integrate way is like. Has she been working here two years already? Very at home, well I have to say you the writers and the whole team. Especially, the writers are very warm and welcoming, and that's the thing I noticed about the Conan Room that was different is like in a lot of rooms. There's kind of like an undercurrent of like everybody's to get something on a little bit like every person for themselves, certain mentality like not overtly but a little bit. It'd be like I'm GONNA get fired, fear or like, but this staff in particular is very supportive when another person does well. I really really was pleasantly surprised by that. When I when I first started working here, we'll tell it's very selfish really when you. Just have. Bred? A slot was filled on the show. Right now is. That person. Hey. Yeah, it's a really high tides. Float all boats mentality. Very advanced. From, you think about it. It's kind of. Manipulation I it as a new writer. Think it's also we all have to bond against Conan. We've yes. Fellow prisoners. Get us. Oh that's nice. That's nice to hear. I was very grateful for that. Yeah, you guys were and are. I think some people are also surprised to hear like with the model jokes on the show I. We have great monologue writers, but when? Jokes. They're no initials on them. And that's also writers are in that mindset. You're talking about where Oh God I'm going to get because that can really mess with your mind is kind of like I mean obviously no one ever stops wearing about Oh. God I'm going to get you know fired, but read, but just knowing a host is reading the jokes not going out of this. You know so and so's officials on here today, 'cause. The other theory is everyone has good days and bad days, so you know it's to cut everyone a little slack. That's so it's that to me. Also just engenders more like creative fake so much better than the punitive likes like while I. You only got five mono jobs in last month. Like you better keep it up. That's never writes. Some places operate and the same thing with the sketch ideas. They had writer who was a tradition going back to the beginning. Maybe for the most part is not saying who wrote the idea. Oh I! Really liked that. Own Sketch have you worked on shows going where you had to come in and pick your own sketches every show every other shaw? Yourself in the room it would usually put it up on screen, and like read the paragraph out loud of your pitch, or you would just go around the room and just say I feel like we've been spoiled I know it's a good skill to learn to bet is to defend your own work in that way. Also sort of armor the it's funny because you realize like sometimes there are writers who, on the page are the funniest person in the room, but when they've pitch, they're not very funny verbally. And you just can't get the idea across, and so and then there's some people who are very funny verbally, but they can't sketch to save their life, and so it's so you'll end up getting a lot of ideas past. That are like not act. So they don't even if it's really funny on paper, if the person shy about presenting it had kills it a lot of times. Yeah, well, I mean it's a good seal to have, and if you're going to be in any other room, you'll need to do that. I noticed with our the way we do. It is to me. It feels like very equally. Every writer gets almost the exact amount of stuff on so like it's like there's no I haven't noticed a trend of like. Oh, this one writer always gets to fondness. Other writer doesn't like. It's like exactly one week. Dan will get a lot of stuff on on one week. Just you'll get a lot of fun. It's very. It seems very balanced. Just seem really balanced. There's no deadweight for sure. I feel really tight group and wear like when we're all hanging out together, everyone. It's kind of an equal joking zone. Just stand meetings show. Yeah. It's funny because I've been on like not that my other dubs were bad, but like I have had some bad jobs, and so when people complain on the staff about like Oh. Yeah, we got. Oh I know. I know me we. I feel so cushy I. Really feel like the Alley dog who got adopted by a rich family and it's like Ooh. I'm eating tuna tonight or whatever? or I completely agree. Yeah anytime. Anyone complains. I'm like all right go get. Yes! And you've written on a ton of shows I mean. You're always amazing Oh thank you. Tell Ya! I Love America Sarah. And Adam Ruins everything. What was that? What Adam Ruins? Everything did you have to, doesn't he? Research kind of problems and the whole half hours about so would you get involved in the research and educational? Yeah, yeah, `edu-tainment is what yeah. Yeah, so there is a set writers in a set of researchers in you would get paired up with the researcher for your episode and You could do a little research if you want. And if you found something particularly interesting, the researcher was in charge of I. Mean I viewed each episode as a collaborate of full fifty fifty collaboration between the researcher and the writer like I think, the researchers should have gotten writing credit. There were incredible and a lot of them were funny themselves, like I worked with the researcher on Kate Doyle. who was like just as funny as every other writer she liked would write funny things like. Give me funny metaphors, ideas and stuff so silverman who is writer on late night? I started out working on who wants to be a millionaire. Last year, she was nominated for five Emmy awards from five different shows. And she helped create the Colbert report when she left late night. Oh, Hey, yeah, but she started out I. Think or wish on jeopardy I think he wants to be millionaire. Started out writing for the each you Hollywood story. That's right. That's right. Also research. Glenn when you did you always know you wanted to be a comedy writer or did? Did you have other different career paths before you arrived here? And and was your family always supportive? Yet Tom. Yes I think this is gonNA. Sound Weird because I grew up in L. A. So. This shouldn't be the case, but I didn't really know that like comedy. Writer was a viable job like I didn't understand exactly how TV got me. I knew there were writers, but I was like I. Don't know how I would like in my head. To be a comedy writer. They just like took boys from Harvard uncovered room. Just kind of it's kind of drill, but. I thought that, too. Yeah for me and so I didn't know what path I could possibly and then I don't have family in the business to help me your to give me advice and like how you would go about that. So I didn't even understand what the path would be to a job like that, and so in highschool. I wrote I was in the theater program, because there was no like theater writing program I was like acting and stuff, and doing plays, and I was like this is Kinda Fun, but not exactly what I like, but it's the closest thing at school to what I like, but I didn't know it yet I wrote some sketches for like a feeder module. We had like like this. What's this? This is fun. And then I went into college, and I joined the Improv team at my school, and then I was like Oh, and we then we doing sketches like okay, and then I started learning about like you see an I, O and second city, and what that was and I slowly stood realizing Oh. This is the job I would want is to write comedy, and then halfway through I went to Boston University and halfway through I realized I was like okay. Well I really WANNA. Do Comedy I was studying psychology at the time. which if you're a basic? White girl, but as Mary Todd category to be a psych major communicate. Exactly communications are I really. Wanted. I looked around. It was all women who looked exactly like. Therapists, yeah yes right. I applied to this thing called the Comedy Studies Program at Columbia, College that was second. See does this I. Think it's still running called the comedies program where you get college credit for taking courses all about comedy so sketch Writing Directing Improv, physical comedy history of comedy like it was the most fun I'd had out of school ever and then after a. A semester that I so during that semester I applied to Parsons in New York occas also around this time I realized that I was really into graphic design. Two things happened at once. Is I realized I wanted to live in new. York and also I wanted to do graphic design, and that that was my safe job. My grabs sign was my like. Your. But I also love doing it so I was like well. If I'm a graphic designer for the rest of my life. That's GONNA find and graphic design. You can work in comedy. I worked in the art department for broad. City and I went to the art department for the onion so like I would design props since like props and paper goods like if you need like a fake liquor bottle in a scene. You have to like. You can't use a budweiser can. Design like a beer that was legally usable or cleanable. Beer label called Greek. Grabbing something. I don't know what the origin of the term is maybe using language. You can't really read so it's Greek to me sort of thing, so it's all Greek to me. Sort of it's gotta be that, but yes, I would do that. I did that for a long time. I liked it I. Mean it's so interesting always to hear how people ended up your into writing, and it's nice to to have like okay. You can be sort of adjacent in a different segment of of television and then make that crossover I think thing because a lot of people are adjacent, but never make a crossover to the thing they actually want to do like sometimes people are development people, but actually want to produce. Produce some people? Are you know producers, but actually one like writer? Whatever and I think the thing I was designing stuff. I was an art department. I think the thing I realized. was that like to make the leap to the thing? You WanNa do like nobody's just gonNA. Come and ask you like ape. Sorry. Do you just want to come right like like you have to just do the thing that you WanNa do? More and let everyone know you WanNa do it. Yes, whatever you want to do it, and then if the place you're working at has no intention of hiring you like. They're always hiring from outside places, or whatever and I think it's up to you to be like a right. I gotta go somewhere else and to somewhere. That will yeah, that's. That's really great advice. I've heard that before, and I had that experience doing stand up comedy and is working at Caroline's comedy at Club in New York City and they had how many show and they had sketches on an is the the guy ran. The club also produced the show, and I was like well. He'll ask me. To be writer and just. Waited and waited, and then I was very disappointed. He never came and I finally said to him I said Hey. Could I submit to be a writer on that show and he's like? Oh, you want to be a writer. Like. It was a whole different idea like cross. Waiver you do shotput, you WANNA do. When up and coming? Writers asked me for advice and they do quite often. Brought this up. Can we always end our shows by asking people to give advice? Oh, someone who wants to do what you're doing that. We don't have tests fresh. Yes, go ahead, so if someone wants to do what I'm doing, my say turn back now, don't. Find something else. No the biggest thing. I have a ton of advice like an I love to give it another. Cigarette in a long. Jetty. I'm in my house. Coat, my Rome. No the one mistake ICT, a lot that drives me crazy is somebody who's when you go to their website or go to their twitter bio or their instagram by it says like Hey. I'm blank producer slash writers slash actor slash podcasters slash web designer slash, and they have all these CEO's slash I also can walk your dog, or whatever and I'm like Whoa. If I'm hiring for, show the analogy, make all the time is like. If I'm looking to cut my stake, I'm not gonNA reach for a Swiss army knife. I'm going to reach a nice knife that is specifically meant for cutting stick. Stick so like if I'm looking for a writer I'm GonNa more hesitant to hire somebody who's like writer producer director actor Ventriloquist bubble blah. Because somebody who just wants to be a writer in my mind is doing writing more often getting more experience in that thing and specializing themselves to do that and wants to do that more than the other things, right? You take seriously at first. Yes, I think you can edit direct whatever you can do all the things, but when you're marketing yourself in the public eye, because once you're a writer director. What's your doctor? You can do all the other things. Like you can pivot do that but I think to me. We need to be specific in your goals. Yeah and I think that also helps people to help you because it's really hard when you put it all out there like I, just WanNa be in entertainment or I. Just want to work in TV it's there's not enough specificity for people to remember to refer you for things, but if you're like I wanNA I. WanNa write for late night television. then. If that job comes up, people will remember you. That's a good point. It's the I so appreciate the focus. I Think, you're focused, and not just also some people are like Oh, I like being in show business where I WANNA be famous. Yell that that that adds to a little which is scary, do the. On the job you want and Kinda gear towards that. Like the head writer. Once you get hired. Palsy move I love it. We'll Glenn thank you so much for being on the podcast. Thank you for having really nice to chat with you. And hopefully we'll see you at the meeting later today. And let me. Ninety minutes. Was that? What is that a couple of edits? Two o'clock. Okay. US gets pushed the way Jesse mentioned. Tomorrow at four yeah. Okay that was Glenn Zan. That was fun. We have a listener question we do. Yeah, from someone named Jed Jed p just to distinguish from the other. Jed so I haven't heard the name Jed in a while. Here's what Jed wrote. Hi Jesse and Mike Two Exclamation marks. I love the podcast to exclamation marks, lifelong fan of Conan, and therefore you as well. I didn't work that way, but sure I've really enjoyed being able to go back in the archives, and also I've found old recordings of the show taking trips down memory lane with bulletproof legs. These are all characters wrist Hulk Bill Clinton interviews the hurricane interview I think we interviewed a hurricane once and the I talked, and even more recent characters like wicky bear. What are some of your favorite characters or sketches? That made you laugh out? Loud cheers, Jed his British or he loves the show cheers Jesse. Any favorite characters I mean I love all of Andre Dubus as. As characters, he's kind of like Phil. Hartmann esque where the second he pops up screener just like Oh. Okay, get ready to laugh. Yeah, I love the the wall Burgers Guy. I think his name is Leslie actually that was revealed in a later sketch. There are multiple installments, but basically at the height of the popularity of game of thrones. This guy would appear in the audience dressed in like full night's watch, guard and talk about how he was very excited about something headed. Our Way starts with and W and it's wall. Burgers turn out. He was a huge fan of the show. Well Burgers, which is the reality show about Mark Wahlberg Families Burger restaurant? Anything Andreessen his great. You anything undermine you know there's so many characters over the years. I was thinking about one. That I always loved. It was deliberately nonsensical on purpose, and I think it's one a writer. Andrew Weinberg came up with, and it was called Cactus chef playing billy Joel's. We didn't start the fire on flute. Six foot tall actually had its sculpt. I Dunno, it just made me laugh every time, but you know what it made me think. There are all these great props that were made for the old show and I'm wondering yeah I mean obviously the property then B C, but I wonder if they're in Indiana Jones warehouse somewhere and someone could try to rescue them. Maybe that could be a remote on the show. A heist story there's another one I thought we did reject it. Star Wars characters. It was character's cut from a star wars movie, and like two thousand and five and one of them was Java the foxworthy. It was job of the hut. We had this beautiful job of the hut modeled and made with Jeff Foxworthy's hair, and a of Jeff foxworthy mustache. He did stand up about you know you're a hut if There's one character CONAN hated and it. He always still brings it. It's called reverend. Otis Kaye dribbles which is Jon? Glaser dressed like a paw rubber, hound, dog mask and dressed below the neck as a reverend, and he would dribble basketball, but really the ball would just fall down and roll away, and it lasted six seconds I think we did it three or four times and every time Conan did it under duress. He hated it. He goes. There's no reason for that to exist. But there is a reason for cactus chef. ACKLEY! metairie. It's so arbitrary. It's so arbitrary. What's the origin of bulletproof legs? Chad mentioned Oh. Yeah, there's so many great characters that Brian McCann did and one of the most bulletproof legs you know the whole story is, it's a man who's comes on sings a song about how you can't hurt him. Because his legs are bulletproof, and he's immediately shot in the chest and is that's. That's the whole bit I mean A. A lot of those things happened after two PM 'cause. We were there till midnight and people were just throwing food around the room and I'm sure he just stood up in started doing the character, and then the head writer would just approve something so everyone could leave exactly needed for the next day. A lot of these feel like comedy mad libs like you could just put a list of nouns into a bowl. That could be that anyone could do it. Anyone could cook these wacky characters. Well that's our show. We love hearing from you all, and you can email us at inside Conan pod at gmail.com or you can leave us a voicemail at three, two, three, two, zero, nine, five, three, zero three. So i'll go deep. Yeah deep during the bottom. I'm in the car playing some games on my phone. That reminded me when you when you dove down and you were. It was like in slow motion. It made me feel. It reminded me of made me feel how long the guy and octopus teacher used to hold his breath for you. Watch that didn't you. And then two nights in a row. Eight octopus it. It makes a good makes the tastier so good. Yeah we went to the korean barbecue place that you suggested and we had chosen. Yeah we did and we had. We had Two kinds of octopus. And then. Yeah i don't know the name of it but you know do you know. What have you ever had that. Good that korean restaurant. Yeah what are you talk about. Korean barbecue is genuinely win. The best of my favorite meals really. Oh yeah thank you. Because i just i love. I love that they tell you what different kinds of meat. And she cooks at different temperatures. All that stuff was so good. I love korean barbecue. Danville take me whenever. I see And maybe you can take this the wrong way but Take the truth. Is is that if i see a like like that the movie the cove Or the dolphins are being slaughtered in that bay. Yeah i get hungry for dolphin. Dolphin really weird. It's like i mean yeah look at all of that and all of that you could just put that new soup you scoop from the bay right. Boil it right there or you just or you learn how to make a cut a hole. It really is sad. Have you seen that documentary. It's not that it's pretty sad. It's really sad. But you know what i. I don't like her dog. Here's my argument though. You can hurt a lot of other things when they say dolphins are the smartest sea mammals. They are right. they have sex for fun. Then why like for me. It's like if i'm swimming into a bay and it's blood blood. yeah. I'm going the other direction. It's like a walking down and alleyway and you see blood alley guy getting stabbed. Would you go the other way. Keep walking the other way a hundred percent. So how bright are they really well. They're going to save their friend. They want to know what is he. Okay yeah there's there. Can they do a different. Noise differ noise. Yo don't make it a. hey man. why do how's that urban. all right. maybe maybe they won't hurt dog. Hey what's that dog see. Don't add dog. it's a dog doing it. A dog is killing. Yeah that's why it's daughter. Yeah i don't know they need different noise. Do your dolphin. That's really good. That's that was real good. Guess what don't laugh. Who'd you saw with dolphins. Yeah swam with dolphins and there was a baby. Could you stand on their nose. Can they push your feet right. Isn't that what they do. I did that in mexico one time. Yeah i don't. I was with them. You know what i do. Yeah write them you get on your. They let me. They'll stop right now. And i'll get on their back right. Did you do the blowhole. Well that's how i get locked into you. Write it backwards. Yeah you gotta get locked in. Yeah but dolphins are fun to ride. But anyway i wait wait. Tell me how you wrote. Did you hold onto the finns. Yeah you held onto the fans and it's two dolphins right in mexico. I know this was illegal. This is wrong in kabul one or wherever we were the guy was like. You're vignette at the beginning. The montage calvin yet. It's called a vignette. It's a montage it's vignette google. It montages a montage a compilation of of seeing a series of scenes. Yeah opinion is what a vignette is something. That's it starts the film. It's a little vignette a little small slice a brief. But what i'm saying though is look of an yet it was a small one saying is month right is a bunch of scenes. A vignette is one seen the the up. I can tell you something. Yeah we're both wrong. Can i defend my points. We're both wrong. There was a montage in that vignette. But it's of in you. We did. I know what you know about odd yourself. No is a bunch of scenes right through their life. Right a montage montage. No no there was a montage in that little short film short film up top your short film. It was a short. It was a short. It was a part of the fucking. It's like the movie like there was a short film and the movies started. It was a little vignette. i can't believe it. I know there's a montage in that in any way and yet ever it. Is that thing the vignette. The montage was incredibly incredibly montage hotel. It's vignette is thing. I've been yeah is like a sauce that go on salad so far off. Okay the vinegar you talking about. I don't know. I don't know what i'm saying. It made me cry. Can we go with the thing that the point was the point one was it made me cry. It was an emotional little journey. The most emotional vignette. I've ever montage every specimen yet. I've seen it made me cry. Anyone resting asner. Fuck that no. I love old recipes. But let's go back to the montage vignette you fans. Let's let's do a fucking paul is is that opening thing right a vignette or a montauk. We would have to ask fancy. He'd be the only one that would know you see these people identify film students. It see how denigrated and how he looks down a word a word that you don't know right so denigrating. What denigrated me putting down ripping apart. Listen okay see how denigrated he is to you all right so you heard it you somewhere radio. No so i see what you do what you're doing right here words and then you take. I know you can't do that. You're doing you imagine onstage. Say you bobby. Like when bobby was a little boy he was denigrated his neighbor. Can you imagine doing your set and using big words so sad that when you're wrong you have to attack in that way so you using words sad by the way. That's a comedy. I'm gonna pay you just using big words. That's funny jewels. You're grounded now. Listen what the fuck should go back to hawaii. She doesn't care too care. Rest in peace asner. We love you love you. I'm so jealous that you got to work with that fucking guy. Even if it was a shitty pilot those only a group of guys of actor that i want to work with. I think funny. What do you mean you said. It was shitty. I know but don't say it was a shitty pilot. Did it wasn't shitty. did it go. it didn't go and it was shitty. Who's you think. The country music station is going to pick up a show with me tom. Martin asner yup. That seems like a homeroom toss. It seems like the second. Yeah what shows are on. Cmt by the way. What's the city is dead now. The networks dead. It is yeah there's no more. Cmt how could that be country. Music channels huge. No dude nashville looking at that was a big show is. Cmt's still around as a network. Is he mta network. I gotta be oil. Just someone bought. It may be and they just only. Wow what as of january two thousand eighteen approximately ninety two million. us homes receive emt. That's a fuck load. Yeah it's still around ninety. Two million people have cmt that means it's canceled country. Music is go back real fast okay. Zoom in and. Let's try to guess with these shows are about this. How little we'll zoom in more. What's nashville about jewels. Do you know rich people. that's it i'm more. You got it. Dude perfect oh that's gotta be new because you know who those guys are. You know those guys do perfectly like throw a basketball off the wall and kickoff fucking golf ball through a whole though okay. What sun records. What's sad about. Go ahead i bet you. It's a lot like music. City sun records was a historical record. Company let her tell the the show. Sorry it's about teenagers trying to be singers. What's music city about. Get ready going to be a similar log. Line about adults trying to sing chrissy. What's broken skull about. Come on. let's go three for three here. Gangsters gangsters such an easier joke. They're easy joke would have been ex inmates trying to be singers. Come on come on your exist ranked if you sing. Thank you dallas dallas cowboys cheerleaders. Wrong with you. I'm on one today. I know you're hyperactive. My legs killing me is that what have my sciatica is going nuts. Do sleep at last night a little bit. I was thinking about you last night. Like what because a yesterday. We can't tell anybody what happened yesterday. Let's talk let's talk about a little bit. We can so yesterday. Bmc andrew showed up here exhau- both of us for some reason. Why would shooting all fucking day and we turned the cameras on and fancy of ansi sat there and turned him right off. Yeah why are we gonna use some of that right now. let's introduce today's rudy. only out of default. Yeah we we try. We try to find someone but we could a little little one. We should ask the little one again we should but instead we got in house. Yeah this is like reusing something. This is like You know. I was watching on america's got talent today some reruns and i thought to myself. Andreas he looks like a ventriloquist. Like the dummy or the person the duck the guy that does it like a guy that would like focus all his attention on it. Okay like let's you drinking. Can you do some ventriloquist. Or that's pretty good. That was actually okay. I i think i can do. It would move organs. And what's your name names more than i'm hearing. Mopus morgan says mope yarmouk organ. All right i. I too much lip on juries fancy. That's good is that good. Yeah this this. One girl named darcy lynn darcy lynn. She's like some young girl that want that. Got the golden blazer. Her years ago on america's got talent but she sing there she is. She seems three of the puppet. Yeah a wants to roll the world. That's really good thank you. Can you imagine that nobody wants girl she at the time. She was like what she wanted. Twelve but now. She's like seventeen now. she's forty eight. Yeah what a weird was sixteen years old. you know. She's going to start dating people at some point that you think she brings the doll to the dates. She think she's like i'll have spaghetti. Oh i know but you know so. There was a black a black ventriloquist when most famous ones. Who will willie. Tyler and lester tyler. Willie lester willie tyler lester. Using real yes. Yes so willy. Title learn lester right. One time. I was on the road with them when i was young. Were you open for willie tyler lawyer comedy store and they just put people together. Sure so like. I was just regular willie so this old old black i you made. Who's if you go to any like back in the day. They had ventriloquist conventions what yeah back. It was like eight up. was ito. Probably the shitty hotel like the hilton tyler. So this will it's a willie. Tyler and lester is is dummy dummy. Right he was the biggest one. So if you would go to a ventriloquist seminar convention half the convention would be just drapes of him photos of him because he was the legend back in the day. Right thinking how much pushback i got from knows. We told so he tells me the story. The opposite is no. It's a it's a push story. We're in the condom lang when you went talk about. It's like two in the morning after the saturday night after the show you will let me tell you story lester. Snow in the case in this case how funny in the middle he wakes up. He's i let me tell you so. He's in his case prophet right so he was would tell me. He told me the story where he would go on the road back in the eighties early eighties and he would meet a girl and he had to have. Lester propped up watching him on the bed. Oh my god and just so just luster would just be pounding away right there. And he goes. Some girls didn't like it. No shit tyler. Yeah i would've just if i was just like during just throwing it off the bed. Now what if what if some girls did like it though. What if talk dirty to me. And he's like yeah girl through leicester. Would've lester had a dick. Oh my god like willie pulled it down a little wooden pinocchio. Yeah she starts blowing. Louis is again you lega unless it. Yeah you like it like. That's so creative. don't by the way. Do your dogs ever watch you. Guys have sax now. We kick them out of the room. You do every time. Oh yeah because my dogs sometimes they jump up and you just gotta let them watch. No my dogs are protective over colella. Show they feel like you're italian hugging her right. Yeah dogs go crazy. They start biting at my ankles. Well you do look like you might smother her. Come on man. What if i you on top. And i'm a dog i'd be like the guy in the room the it'd be biting on my neck like barking. It'd be chaos do you. Do you guys have dogs. I do do you let the dog watch you guys hook up. No pull the my closer to your face rudy. Yeah you don't even know what to god damned a year for the fucking governable here is like i feel like we're uncomfortable with you there as well. Yeah yeah and we meandered for an hour and a half who so it. It got to the point. Where like an hour in we were both thinking at but like we never send anything And then eventually exit somebody. I don't know who said it but this suck we both. Did there was a oh. This is bad. And you're gonna really bad but we walked away from it. I'm glad we walk away from it. I think fancies energy there was was. He's getting this whole battle but this whole battle with george thing that he's got going on it's put him in a weird place. He's getting real cocky. He's wearing brighter shirts. He shown up a little bit late pizza pizza. Peter you doing almost all the work now and all of it save. It's dumped on me. Fancy is getting a little too fucking you know. Balloon headed about the whole. I trust pete more. Why do you think that is i. Always go down to an apocalyptic moment and you have your team your squad. Yeah right and immediately fancy would not be a part of it it well. He wouldn't be a. What would you offer. Nothing is not gonna complaining right. I mean all these zombies folks so crazy otto man is out there. They're going to buy my will you on it. You know how he don't he'll beat me. Yeah yeah yeah. Complain the whole. Get the fucking logs like we told you. Do we gotta start fire right. You know pete pete. Pete would like he'd come up with stuff like he. Would behead twos zombies right and you walk around. You know how they did in the walking dead walk around with them. Yeah yeah he would come up with things. Yeah he's a smart guy. He's a thick boy but he can take a punch. Yeah if we got into a big fight. Could you take a hit a hell. Yeah i used to box did you really. that's right. You think you can beat. Jake paul jake paul jake woodley last night. Now you said did you watch. It's a mockery of the sport. I mean is it. I guess. I don't know what is it anymore for me. It's it's your big boxing fan. It's not just. I'm a boxing fan. But i just feel like it's like you know. First of all he fought. You know on ben aspirin aspirin as well right before that end. It's like you know that's not their skill set right. I think that if jake you're tough enemy yeah but those guys. We need to train for ten years to get to the training. They did right so he doesn't he. He shouldn't win a fight situation. I know but that's why they say it's equal. That's that's why they're saying it's equal because these guys have boxing. Andrew jitsu in their training doesn't matter it because it's like imagine like seems fair was a pretty fair fight. It was a pretty fair fight but tyrone isn't using his skill set ground and pound. I know but neither but j. j. can can't do it so that's what i'm saying. So he's brand new so there's entering at zero. It's it's like this. It's like taking a guy that a professional tennis player in another tennis player going. I don't know how to serve no jail. We're gonna take that out. No that's jake was never a fucking it's like taking. This is taking a ba. A professional basketball player and making him play volleyball. Because that's an element of basketball is jumping right and blocking yeah. There's a lot of similarities. And then taking a guy who's never played professional anything and just trained to be volleyball player for two years and you're like go head to head that's exactly what it's like. There's only some elements of the sport of mma. That make it into boxing. And jake has none of the professionalism so he just been training just for one item so it's pretty even keeled. I know but it fight showed how tyron woodley is. His whole career is focused on young. He's a focused on just boxing. Right right focused on jujitsu. That's my take that away because then it would be unfair because jason none of that so it's only fair if they're both entering kind of i guess my question is why does tyrone and ben aspirin you need to do it. I know where the money all whites gross. But what are you going to say. If somebody came to you and said bobby we want you to do this. Corporate gig this corporate. Stand up gig on a fucking cruise ship. Nobody there is under seventy five and they're all white and they all and they are so fucking racist they hate. They hate asians. I mean this is called this. This boat is called the kong. Flu cruz okay. Right what are you asking me. And we're going to give you fifty million for an hour. can you come. And i'm known when a bomb. You're not just going to bomb. They're gonna boo up. They're probably going to try to attack you a little bit. You would do money. They're going to do. It's money those guys. I don't even know what they got. What did those guys get paid. Can you with that. I'm sure the the fucking check the tyrone was like insane in. I mean insurers discussed how could you turn it down at some point. You would've tyron woodley make. What does this one. Website estimates paul's guaranteed a million and will double that With share the pay per view. Money woodley half that he got a half a million for the fight and then doubling that to a million half the pay per view money is counted so he gets a million bucks not including all of the other bullshit promotions. Those guys are making so much money on the side. And i think that's wrong. It's not wrong. it doesn't seem worth it. What do you mean. They made a faulk load of money on that thing tyron woodley. Listen taiwo Woodley for the last four. Ufc fights he fought. he lost right. Yeah it was like. He's done that's why he needs this. I know but it's like a sad ending to an illustrious career. But isn't that don't we all kind of have a little saddening. I mean you do. You're going to end up doing bad shit when it's all over we all are gonna make bad movies and tv shows when it's all over. I do those now. Jumping the shark. I won't doing it now but is it. it's not it's like. would you rather him walk away. Completely from nine. Okay so imagine you. And i right. Yeah right and Let's suppose a lifetime movie came out to you. We'll give you a million dollars to this really shitty tasteless Yet a mean lifetime movie. Would you do it. no exactly. that's what that is not at the end of my career can figure it out. There's other things you can do he. That's why he's doing rod. Castro right see could've started a podcast or you his agent no. He's he probably tried a bunch of stuff and he was like fuck it. i'll fight. This is not even over. He just ended. It's fucking have seen. He must be a little bit nervous. He's he's jumping in the ring with this kid and i don't know somebody has to talk to him and go. This is not a good thing because he lost right. I know but you yeah. that's yes. yes but no but yes but look at it like this. You don't know his private life. He could be blowing money. He could be in such debt dude. I just heard a fucking wrapper on the radio. Whose name was young blood yar some shit and the fucking radio host was like do you know. He has eight kids by five different women. And he's under forty. Had fuck you pay for all those kids right. You don't know his like he might have six houses ten colorado.
