"Tim Ryan has a great line and I'm going to use it forever and ever now. Uh, West is best. But which West or we talking about the NFC West or the FC? West. Is anybody in the NFC West as good as Kansas City? How good are the Chargers? You watch Justin Herbert convert on third and long over and over and over washing defense again. Denver went to New York and throttle Damn We'll see what the Raiders do against Baltimore tonight with Joe Staley there to watch. But so far on the West Coast there, seven and Oh, it's on you. Raiders to stay perfect. Ain't no. Nobody in the NFC West to the NFC West is yet to lose a game. That's crazy. Yeah, Like one game we just started. We just started Well, that game between Cleveland and Kansas City was a great game, and they did everything the Tyree kill thing and back from home Saturday after the game, he just says the hell with that tire. It's out there somewhere, and he just throws it up and John Johnson got lost. And that was the big Big play, and then, for some reason, Baker Mayfield went back to his former self. It was first down and he forced to throw. They didn't have to force and they threw an interception interception. They lost by five, but Cleveland's going to be a good team. But like you said, Kansas City one. We'll see what the Raiders do first game with fans in Vegas tonight. That's gonna be rocking that place. Joe Staley is there to support? How good was Justin Herbert yesterday? Wow. And that's a good deal on third down is just incredible. They were 14 of 19 and third down yesterday. Wow. Yep. All right, let's get to the Giants Go back to the NFL again. Text line is wide open your thoughts, anything regards to the 49 ers? You can ask pop anything on that where the rest of the NFL and what you thought the NFC West. How good it looked yesterday as well and how tough this division will be, will pick it back up, but The Giants get a sweep against the Cubs. They had to because the Dodgers sweep as well and make sure was great. Yesterday gets his 3000 strikeout. And now the Padres limp into town and the Dodgers get the Diamondbacks. So you gotta assume that they're going to win those at home. So we'll talk to Susan all about it next. Only here on the SportsCenter. This is Papa and Lund. Live on. FM. This is KNBR one. Oh 45 and 6 80, these sports leader. Mondays are always better after a sweet and they get their first sweep at Wrigley Field in 26 years, Giants Go six and, Oh, what a week for the Giants Pretty amazing season opening roadways. Deebo. Samuel Touchdown. SAN Fran Cisco. How did he catch that ball? 79 year? Better words. To review the good, bad and the ugly. The hitman Donte Whitner joins Papa in London 12 30. I'm concerned right now for the interior and defence, stopping the run. I don't want to alarm everybody out there, But there's some corrections and there's some work that they have to get to. And they have to be detailed in at work. It didn't look good at this afternoon. Maybe bring on the three time champ. Our favorite tight end before Kettle number 84 Branch Jones at three. There. This Monday gets even better with the Giants hosting the Padres.

"There's Fred Warner afterwards, saying it's tough to see Jason Brett, especially after all the work he's done in the injuries he's had in the past. Go down. Good news is the 49 dropped 41 17 They hold on 43 33 a lot of good to talk about, But obviously, after major injury like that, That's we're going to start Jason Britain in the secondary. Looks like he's out for the year with an A C L. Let's talk to the aforementioned Donte Whitner at 90. Wittner. Make sure you follow a great job with the pre and post with Joe and the crew yesterday, and he joins us courtesy of the magazine. Hi, Dante. How are you? Are you guys doing Well, we're kind of torn, right? I mean, you get the win, but obviously you're feeling bad for Verrett. Yeah, You feel extremely bad. Eveready fall back in so many devastating injuries, Patella tendon, Achilles, multiple HCL and arguably was the best defender during training camp. You know, so he was looking forward to, you know, showing the world that you know he was the top five corner in the league and to see him go down for the nine contact injury. Basically, you know exactly depth. It's devastating and heartbreaking. Yeah, Without question. We'll figure out what the football team does, but just speak to Jason and I saw you know, after the game coming out on crutches, and he was still welling up. He stopped and And gave me a hug and watching this guy play, too. When he was a young player with the San Diego Chargers in 2015 was a pro ball player. You you listed all the different injuries is terrible. Injuries in the eight finally got healthy last year, and he played great. But because of the pandemic, the salary cap went down. He wound up signing a one year deal. For $5.5 million. Not a camp is going to go up to over two. Oh, eight. I mean, just from a financial standpoint. Uh, he lost a lot of money yesterday. Nancy, We're talking. Maybe 25 30 $35 million, he would have got in a contract if he played. This year, the way he played last year. We did, and they're so unpredictable as to what will happen when an injury would happen. And that's why players talk about getting paid and locking up a guaranteed money. That's why you're here so often. And last year was a buyer's market ownership. Didn't want to pay the players. You know they didn't make a lot of money. They lost a lot of money with the pandemic, so it was just bad timing and you hate the theaters happen to guys. You understand what he's going through. I understand what he's going through, but it doesn't make it any easier. Dante. Witness. Join us the 40 Niners Hold on in Detroit yesterday. 41 33 bracing for the bad news officially on Jason Verrett in the knee. So from a football perspective, how badly does this hurt? Tremendously. Yeah. Um, you know, they were relying on him to play a lot of top receivers, and they have a lot in their division. He was the number one corner. Playing basically like a top up corner in the league. Now you have to figure out what you're going to do. And they were already seeing at the cornerback position when the season started yesterday. So now you have some guys on the street. You have, uh, our old friend Richard Sherman out there. Well, I can guarantee you that he's in the best shape that he's probably ever been in. And he wants the opportunity to prove that he's still the top point in his league, so I'll go on record, saying that even though Richard Herman is not a hurricane To the top 10 corn in the league, especially in this system that he knows like the back of his hand. That's easy fit. Yes, and the 40. Niners do talk to him on a regular basis. John legend Adam Peters and Kyle even acknowledged it. He's got a little bit of a legal situation he's going to have to get through. And that probably wouldn't be a uh, addition you can make until October, but I hear you, but let's just start with the with the in House candidates. And I want to start with Josh Norman. Um, because you played with him, You know, coming off his best year and Carolina when he was a first team all pro. He got the franchise tag, and then he didn't sign it right away. And Marty Hurney and Carolina got pissed rescinded it. He wound up signing a lucrative deal to go to Washington. And you were there with them for their 2016 years. I've always thought he was more of his own corner. Kind of like Richard Sherman, which is not a slide of the guy, but I think he's more of a A guy who wants to play a little bit off kind of soft and off. Is that an accurate breakdown of Josh Norman? And what do you think about his game right now? Don t accurate depiction of Josh Norman, you know, But as we get older, we lose a little bit. You know, even though we don't want to admit it. And it takes a lot of communication with your teammates. Just come in, implement somebody after a week of practice. That much more communication that goes on out there than just putting a guy out there and say, Hey, play covered three plates number four. All right. What about when he have bunch formations? What about when they motion it shift? What about what we're playing man to man to get her to man Fact what's the communication there? It takes a while to develop back chemistry. And it takes a while for Josh Norman Norman to learn a type of terminology and what means what and what coverage and zone blitz and man It's so much to learn, Um, maybe five duty when they go to a nickel packages give him certain coverages to work on, but for the asked them to come in after two weeks. And these are number one corner and base nickel dime. I don't know if you can do it. Dante, the young guys De'andre Lynn or played yesterday and he didn't get tested out a whole lot. But I would imagine that in the short term, if if we can assume Mosul would come back against Philly, would you think Lynn or would be on the other side? And how would you feel about that? The other thing. It would be liner will be Dontae Johnson at the moment was inspired duty from Josh Norman that he gets up to speed. Eleanor. I think he has five targets you only gave of one. That's what I saw in pro football focus. What tells me that you know the game wasn't too big for them. But when you go into a game early in the week, the coaching staff notice you're going to be out there that can prepare for you. They can attack your weaknesses. They noticed a young guy. And that's when he will get tested. So you know we'll see how it goes moving forward. But, yeah, I would say Dontae Johnson older nor will be the opposite Emanuel mostly. All right early in the game when the 40 nine's were rolling. Still, the lion's got after them as far as running the football. Jamal Williams and DeAndre Swift had some big runs in the game. And now going to Philadelphia. Jalen hurts. Just live in the run game as a quarterback, and they've got a running game..

"He's fine. But we had fun, and we watched all the games. I mean, Kansas City coming back Incredible, saw the entire Sunday night game. Flying back. How many post routes that was an overwrought to Van Jefferson? Matthew Stafford looks incredible. Ah, but yesterday in the football game at Ford Field Rough start with a fumble on the first snap of the year. That was weird. Then Alex Mack kicks it. Uh, but they missed the field goal and you wind up just avalanche ng them, you could not have played better. The run defense was a problem. Donte Whitner will drop by a little earlier today at 10 30 with a hit man to detail. While they were a little leaky, But you know, Dee Ford showed up. Nick Bosa showed up. Janet was it was a 41 17 game at the two minute warning. Hey, great, right. Never seen anything like that, and they come right out and score. Run a little pick play with TJ Hockenson, and then George gets a Super Bowl right in the face and they recover. And they take some shots. You lose. Obviously. Jason Moretz, the tough one and Raheem Mostert. I think the turf had a lot to do with everything. I mean that that third bounce from Austin Cyber in the Super Bowl bounce went right into Georgia's grill. Everybody was proposing. You can't recover an onside kick. You know, 4th and 15. We got to go to that crazy role. Well, they got one of the kickers like their fourth string kicker. They cut three in the preseason. But he's very capable. He was a partner in Oklahoma Great kicker. Has a hard time with the longer point after his, but he's good, and that was a hell of an onside kick. You can't blame George up. All just popped up. They played it better the second time you have to wait 10 yards step in and feel the ball away. Fred Warner did. But then even after that Debo fumbles After he ran across the line for the first down, So it was just crazy. But the field church got him last year on the first Road game of the year. And it got George there, but more importantly, it got Jason Verrett. And that was a weird scene after the game and I went downstairs, and obviously I didn't fly with the change of the Greenbrier. We flew back to SFO. But I saw Jason Verrett. With crutches and he's coming right at me. And he just you know, I know his brother. He worked with the Raiders for a long time. I've known Jason forever and I know what a great player is. He's the best cornerback on this team. There's no doubt I mean, K wants Jeffrey because he plays inside, but Jason Verrett Is as good as there is in the league. Within short area. Quickness is body was so great we had amount in the off season. I think in the best shape of your life is just incredible. And he paused and you could see him. Even this was way after the game was over, his eyes were welling up, and he paused and hugged me and Mm. Anybody hits today? Um He lost a lot of money yesterday. You know, he's in a one Your contract. Or he's just got to stay healthy, and I don't know if the money would have been there for because the you know the salary cap is not gone up that much. It's going to go up, but Still up to two. Oh, eight. But you know he may last 25 $30 million. Yesterday, and I don't know. From the 49 year perspective, you could bring him back after another. Year. This is the second a cl the Achilles just terrible, just terrible situation for him. And then Raheem Mostert. Ah, I talked to him on the pregame show. And he offered up. His goal is to get a gold jacket. He wants to be a Hall of Fame player. I was like, Whoa, Maybe you should start with making a Pro bowl. And just staying healthy, But he's got the ability. There is no doubt his first two runs. He got to the edge easy. And then we didn't see him anymore. Uh, Dr McAdams feels as though it's not in the least not exactly sure you can kind of feel around in there, you could feel around and feel it. You know Diagnostically, just with a Uh, you know, just a quick exam. Um, that the A C s torn. Then you can pretty much tell if it's not torn. But they have to look at it. They'll know today when they're waking up, assuming the MRI truck does not break down at the Greenbrier again. We should get a report on that when Kyle talks to the media four o'clock, but They won the game. They were the dominant team. This is a really good football team. There is no doubt But the one area where there's a little bit of a lack of depth is now an issue. Losing your best corner by far for the year and it will be a calendar year. I mean, hopefully he could make training camp next year. Man just resume his career, but Now we'll start talking a lot about the young guys. The Amador played well yesterday. Um, I think they are going to get Emanuel mostly back in Philadelphia, watching them warm up before the game. You look good on that knee. What does Josh Norman have left? And I'm sure at some point we'll We'll talk to Dante Wittner about Uncle Sherm because he was all on board about bringing Richard back. Look, let me go to one thing, too. And this is the pathetic part of it. And you, actually you told the story about Raheem Mostert. And after you did, I went back and did some research, um, and looked at it. And I knew a little bit of his story, but not to the depths that you you told me about. I mean, this is a guy that grew up to say that he grew up in a tough area is an understatement. His dad shot his brother, his dad's in prison. He's lost friends you had to run home because of gang violence from school. He's been cut six times in the NFL. And then the story when they went to the Super Bowl in 2019 was amazing in his legs. Let him there. I mean, he was amazing in the Packers game..

"Had a fantastic Liberty Weekend. Rod Brooks Laich Kruger, Tom Tolbert with you. We're going to be joined by, you know, we have a theme today. Donte Whitner. We're joined us at 2 30. Brent Jones number 84 will join us at three. Matt Miyoko at 4 15 and then Will turn to baseball. We'll get you ready for the Rockies and the best team in the bigs. Even after a tough three game series against the Dodgers. The San Francisco Giants. What's up, fellas? Yo. Hey, hey! Big Monday. Actually Tuesday. That's how I met. Big Tuesday 321. What's up, Clara felt like a Monday closed. I felt like a Monday. Absolutely. But I love me some three day weekends and what a great one. This one was what the college football spread throughout. And the Giants taken two out of three and a tough series. Very fun weekend. Yeah, absolutely. It absolutely was. I mean, we got a lot to get to today. We got a lot of college football. A lot of giants and I'm sure we'll get get more giants as we get closer to the game, But let's start with him. I mean, of course, they keep doing it. I mean, they do absolutely keep doing it. And the first two games. You kind of thought. Okay, there, that kind of Got to go buy a script. You know, they get the first one. And because the Dodgers had to go with the bullpen game and the Dodgers get the second one. You're like, Okay, Third one is going to be That's gonna be a tough one because Bill has been Pitching the hell out of it. And the Giants. We're going to have to go with Just about everybody They had left in the pen. I think it was nine. It counted nine. They went 99 pictures deep, Johnny wholesome game. Oh, my goodness and They did it. I mean, that's just that's the Giants that that game right there. It's kind of in a nutshell. With the Giants have been this year just a really, really good team and even When you think they're just about just about the slide just a little bit. Maybe the odds are against them. You're looking at this big, bad Dodger team coming in with Bueller on the mound, Who is a sigh? Young candidate against Everybody and you're just thinking Well, did that. How can this go wrong? Well, let me start counting the ways on how all this could go wrong and it didn't. It just didn't go wrong. They jumped him early. And they beat him up early pillar to Pillar. Bloody them a little bit, And I don't know it energized whatever. But the bullpen, which is final ways. You get out here. Get some out there. Get a few here. And you find yourself with a lead and then scary ass. Jake McGee comes in in the in the ninth inning and pulls it's one over the wall. There was an error on Bryant. They was admitted a two run home run. But you're thinking, Oh income and the Giants win. 64 and the Giants win the series, and the Giants won the season series against the Dodgers. 10 to 9. So, yeah, The Dodgers have an incredible lineup. That lineup stretches from here to I don't know. Name someplace You want to go. I mean, it is a It's his lengthy align up, but you can find Not just in the National League, but the big leagues, and they they they're right. Not only they right there with them there ahead of them, and they beat him this year 10 games to nine so That's all you need to know about. Larry said something a couple weeks ago where the Giants in their lineup and on their team, they don't have any. Oh, guys where that guy is playing that guy's pitching. It's that that cats turned up to bat. You don't go. Oh, this problem. They don't have any of those. Oh, guys, and for 88 games, the Giants haven't had any of those. Uh oh, moments where you kept thinking. In Sunday's game. That moment is going to come and They got six runs off a tight pants Buehler and then backed it up with the performance yesterday that they absolutely had to have from Kevin Gausman. He had to go seven innings yesterday. Because of of the energy and the innings expended by the bullpen. What was it? 23 Bullpen Inning's over the course of the Dodgers series some crazy? Yeah, Yeah, 23 bullpen in it. Over the course of that series, Gausman had to have the outing he had yesterday. He had it and maybe a little bit extra with the with the nine strikeouts that you took to double up those two performances on Sunday against Buehler, and then do what they did yesterday in Colorado. They keep doing it. And it's amazing to watch. And they get Web tonight. Are you have going tonight? You know, it was incredible to me was just Sunday. I mean, you're starting Dominic Leone against Walker Buehler and you call up Stephen Duggar guys. I had forgotten that Stephen Duggar. Was down, and Stephen Duggar was a huge part of this team this year, and he came that that two run triple was just awesome, Awesome moment and the way he kind of pumped his fist and yelled into the dugout. Belt, hits it down and in fastball and rides it out. Um, just just a fun, fun game and not just another game. Because now the the one game you know the 10 9 is Tom referenced. Giants have the one game division lead. But they also own any tie breakers, such as home field advantage If there's a one game playoff if they finish with an identical records, so Check. That means something and then and then Camilo Deval. You know another guy? I mean, it's like this guy. I don't know if you know, I don't know if Giants fans I don't even know if Cap knows if you can trust of all in big moments down the stretch, But, wow, his arm is just electric, and they leaned on him..

Kevin Gausman Matt Miyoko Donte Whitner Camilo Deval Tom Tolbert Rod Brooks Dominic Leone Jake McGee Tom Bryant Larry Sunday Tuesday Clara Stephen Duggar San Francisco Giants 10 games Brent Jones Bill Giants

"He's on NBC Sports Bay Area as an analyst with Donte Whitner, Laura break, you're going to see them. Before and after all 40 Niners games, and Joe joins US Weekly and he joins us courtesy. The legacy Dude, It's good to have you back. How are you? I am so excited to be back on with you guys going to be a very fun year talking ball. To be back around football. It's been a long time. It's been too long. It has been. And if you want to break into karaoke at any time, just just name the tune, and we go, Joe, Show whatever you want to do. You know us we we roll anyway, you want to roll Well, I don't want to throw you off. I mean, I got to know what kind of repertoire you have. Dude, he would you say, John, we could. We'll probably have to go over our playlists before. But I remember what was it was Vernon Davis the first time you you did that? I mean, it goes back years and years now, that was the viral one. Yeah, that one got a lot of hits because that Vernon was really, really enthusiastic about it Got really into the character and all that. I think that was what was appreciated by him. It was so good. For people who don't remember before. Really? Everybody had a show and everybody had a podcast and everything. You had the Joe Show with the 49 ers, and it was like you had stuff going on. And nobody else was doing that at that. You know, at that point That was a lot of fun. We had fun time with that. It was just a way to keep guys loose in the locker room was kind of a a deal We came up with on every Friday. Typically before an away trip kind of guys are in the locker room. Just kind of hanging out getting dressed before you go on the plane, and I would just go around asking dumb questions. Obviously, in the The opening tune is that I'm going to ask him stupid questions, System teammates, and that's about all it was. So it was fun just to get guys open up a little bit, because I think so much as The media is you just see him talk about football at to the nose. Answer the cliche questions and answers and it's good to see some guys personalities come out a little bit. And your own as well. So take me back to your rookie year. Cause I remember your rookie year you were more of a serious guy. And then the Joe Show in the real Staley personality. How long did it take you to feel comfortable in your own skin in an NFL Rot locker room? Cannot be so serious and ahead. More fun, Joe. Yeah, my my rookie year. My nickname was for a long time G I, Joe. Because I didn't speak. I've spoken to. It was very Yes, sir. No, sir. And I don't have any fun. And it caused so much stress and anxiety because I was like this is not me. Football is not fun right now. I'm trying to learn the playbook. I'm trying to let everybody know that I'm serious about this, but I think like anything Once you get comfortable in the situation, you kind of figure out what's accepted what's not accepted and you gradually, your personality comes out. I'm a little bit more outspoken and Easy going. Um, but I wanted to make sure that that was the environment. And let it out because I think the number one thing coming from college to the NFL that you want to show everybody that they drafted you and got you in the locker room that you're serious. And you gonna take this as a profession? You know, it's not just all games and you want to kind of prove yourself a little bit before you show that one side. No. Joe Staley is joining us. He's going to join us every week. The Joe show. I think it's gonna be on the Monday is obviously with long weekend today. Being Tuesday and then Joe's. Of course, we're going to do great work with NBC Sports Various So tell us what's up. In terms of you look great. It lost a bunch of weight. I think you're doing peloton. I've tried. I've done peloton. Not to the level that you have. You look great. You're coaching down there when they were doing a joint practices with the Chargers. You could do that with your life. I think you're going to be you would be great on TV. I think this is just the first step for you. I think there's a lot you could do. So what's what have you been doing and what's ahead. I took the year off of retirement just to kind of spend time with the family really realized that I really miss the game of football and being around it, so I had an opportunity to join NBC Sports Bay Area. This off season and really excited about it. I'm just kind of get me around the game of football again, You know, it's exciting. I'm breaking down film and taking notes just like I'm preparing if I was going to play a game and just get ready for the broadcast this weekend. And, Yeah, it's kind of a first step to see, you know, get my my toes a little bit into the media realm and see if it's something I really truly enjoy. And And go from there. So I think for me just to stay home close to the Bay area with a team that I love and that I know is going to be a good first step for me in the media room. And they love you. I mean, the head coach. Everybody there. You know, a lot of friends are around the offensive line. John and I knew, you know, from doing the Joe Sto Joe show with you years ago that you would be a natural did Is this something you thought out while you were playing that when I reach higher I would like to go into broadcasting. No. Honestly, it was the actual opposite. Um I think when I was done with football, my first thought was I was really excited to be out of the public eye. And have that You know, a little bit of an anonymous personality that I can just kind of go down to San Diego and do my thing and be with my family and not worry about Answering questions and being on camera and all that stuff, but At the same time. I definitely had a This last year. I had a curiosity, I would say. Of You know what could be and I think for me, it's just about trying something new kind of putting myself out there. Definitely felt like you know, I'm just getting started in this and, you know, felt like a rookie all over again. Just really learning something new and how to prepare and What to do with my hands and where to look and how to keep conversation going, So it's definitely different than just answering questions. Um, but it's an exciting challenge for me, and I think it's something else from past to my kids. You know, it's It's okay to start over. It's okay to start something new later in life and always try something because I think for me if I never would have gone down this route, I would always been wondering later on. If maybe this would have been fun for me. There's something I was Good could have made a career out of after football. Joe Staley, Jonas said. It's cool because we got the lion's coming up this weekend. You're Michigan guy, so we'll get into the game in a second, but everything's going good. Right? You got the two daughters. I remember you went from like housing. Players, right young players and free agent players and guys who weren't making a bunch of money that could live with you. And then I remember you got married, and then now you have two daughters, right? Everything's going well. Yeah. Now I'm housing them in mind in our house that we have correctly. You're not paying your left. There's still not paying around first night. They never will. They very well know it's cool that you did that, though. We're going to start a program, I think maybe we'll do that in their teenagers. No one pays the rent with you. But that was awesome. You did that, Because it was like guys are coming to the bear. And like trade lands I remember Bunch of guys. They come into town, and it's like, Oh, my God. Where the hell am I supposed to live with this cost of living? So you did. You did him a solid That was a huge eye opener coming from middle of nowhere. Michigan coming on to the Bay Area. And realizing that the real estate prices don't exactly match up..

"Flying. NFC champs feels good going crazy right now, but I don't know if you've got one game laughing on. It's uh it's weird. I'm very excited about this very celebratory, but I want to win a Super Bowl so bad and excited to be an opportunity to play for everyone. Why would he be playing that? Well, Joe Stanley is going to be a weekly guest of ours. Starting today at 10. 30 now normally will have Joe on Mondays, but we all had yesterday off. Obviously, it's game week. So, uh, Joe, who is a teammate of yours on NBC Sports, Barry he's going to do Analysts work with lower Brit and then, of course, the great Donte Whitner, who will join US weekly as well again this season. But Joe is going to make his debut on the show. And we had Joe in another iteration of the show years ago on the show. We always had great fun with Joe. How can you not? And we're going to debut and bring him back to the show in about 10 minutes excited The Joe Shell. We started years ago, and then they did it on 49 dot com and he's singing karaoke E with all different people. We knew when he was playing there certain players when they're like Tom Tolbert. He just knew when Tom was playing. He's going to go into this business and probably be better at it than when he was playing. Joe's, you know, chose a borderline Hall of Fame player. He's on the All decade team. The chance. Not Trent Williams. You're you're starting left tackle on that team is Joe And a tremendous player. You heard him after the rollicking win and the NFC championship game, uh, at Levi's, and he's going to a Super Bowl and He never did get to win the Super Bowl. You know his body was really breaking down that year. He had the injury right away early in the year in Cincinnati, and Battled through it at all kinds of physical problems remain. He came about as close as you can come five yard line in New Orleans and Super Bowl. 47 First down for cracks at it. Never never ran the ball. Um, you know, kept throwing the fade route to Crabtree against Jimmy Smith and then the game seven years later that we were at when they had the lead with 7 13 to play of 10 on Kansas City, So I don't know if you come any closer and not win one than Joe. But his body looks great. We saw him in Costa Mesa has lost a lot of ways, so he's got the TV bod. He's got the radio personality. I just wonder how long we're going to have them because there's an open invitation for him to join the coaching staff. And he kind of did that. And he was right in there. You know, he had the the script and he was right there with Chris, first er and all the offensive line lineman, McGlinchey's body and trend. Alex Mack and all of them and he was coaching him up, so I don't think he's quite ready to go into coaching. With all the hours you have to put into But he'll figure out we'll see how good he is on T V. I mean, he easily could make more money on T V. Then he would a coaching. But if he gets to be, you know, good at coaching and winds up in an old line coach, they make pretty good money. I don't know how much a motivator that is for him. He's made a ton of money. Right now. He just wants to fit in. But not a surprise, John. I mean the whole world knew The Joe Show is coming back to K and B are right. I mean, absolutely. Yeah, I look when he was playing, you know the whole time and we had amount of ton. I always thought he'd be great. He can do whatever he wants. I mean, he'd be a great Coach. I think he was coaching from college kids, actually, as they got ready for the draft, So he was doing some of that already. And then look, if if he wants to pursue this business I think can be as big a star is Is as a lot of guys because I see just for example, just offensive lineman wise Joe Thomas does Thursday night football. Think Joe's great Joe Thomas is great, But I think today that could be better because I say they can break stuff down. And I think stately, hilarious. So his personality, I think, sets them apart. So I think he could do whatever the heck he wants to do. And then for him. I love to see him too, because he's a big peloton guy. I think he lost a lot of his weight obviously eating well and then doing the pellet on things. So I'm excited to talk to him about because what did he drop £100? Well, I mean, football players football players after you know what they have to do with their body McGlinchey to bulk up. You know, he went from 2 95 up, and, uh Think he's right around 3 20 what Jordan, Matthews said to do. It's just not good for your body. And when you see these guys right after they retire the guys to play in the trenches typically Some of them gain more weight, which is odd Lincoln Kennedy, but most of them kind of like the A popped balloon, generous seeing John Perella alignment a few years after he retired. After the third time that I was just like while you look different. He's like I look a little different than to Greg. So Joe's the same way. But it's just, you know, you get your body back, and Joe was a great athlete track star. Ice catered central Michigan growing up and he's got his body back, which is going to help him on TV. So it's amazing how the good lineman Dan Deardorff was a great broadcaster. There have been You know, offensive lineman that have done well as broadcasters. Joe Thomas is extraordinary. One of the greatest players never play at that position, something about Joe and playing that position and then hang them up and going right into holding a microphone. John Thomas's Strong as any broadcaster. There is out there and he does. I wish he would work more and do games. But Joe Staley can get into that realm. Where can I put any pressure on him? Joe is going to be great at it right away. It'll be fun to catch up, get his thoughts and what he sees from the team because obviously he was there for for two of the scrimmage days..

Joe Thomas Joe Staley Joe Stanley Trent Williams Dan Deardorff Tom Tolbert Alex Mack Jimmy Smith Donte Whitner Greg Chris Jordan Tom John Costa Mesa John Perella John Thomas Cincinnati Barry Thursday night

"Loss but i mean that was. I didn't think he got embarrassed. It which just a bath fight all around. Oh i think he got schooled in that fight. Really yeah yeah. I thought it was just a square dance but even more so than that i think. His legacy is a little bit complicated. Thank you might agree. And it's because of the unsubstantiated 'cause there's no proof yet but because of the performance enhancing drug allegations. Yeah i'm with you. I don't really hold it against them. Because obviously as you said we don't have any proof. I'm gonna be honest with you and again. I still think he goes down is an all time great. I love him all the side. Yeah he's fantastic. I think he did do. Pd's and that's why. Of course floyd mayweather in fighting for so long. And i think floyd knew something. And here's why i think that it's almost similar to bury bonds. Now i know. There's not a big book about manny. And how he used steroids and all that stuff like deers about bonds. Game shadows. But the circumstantial evidence the way bonds like his the way his body and his game changed the you know that's why people think. Wow this do something i think. Anything exists with manny manny. Pacquiao started out as a light flyweight ninety eight pounds. Now i know he was sixteen. But let's say by the time he was a man he still was like a flyway and he moved all the way up to light. Middleweight beat a great middleweight in delahoya. And here's the thing is not just eddie moved out and he can outbox guys. He maintained his power. Yup that's what like you don't do that. Floyd mayweather who we we all think really can't hit right for his wife for a welterweight win. Floyd was at the lower weights. He was not do that was right. He was and he wins with skill. Now one was killed when he was still fighting. Not with power. When you move up your power usually doesn't come with you ever manny to move up essentially forty pounds and keep his power. That's what makes me think he he was doing something and his prime quickly to piggyback on that in the eleven fights after two thousand before two thousand ten when these allegations came out he had eight knockouts in the fourteen fights after the allegations. Zero knockouts. there. It is there it is what there it is so. Yeah it's complicated. Look i still love him. The do was phenomenal. But in unless it's proven right we can't is hard to hold it against them. What up its dramas me. No me from the recap on tv. Now got my own. Podcast life as a gringo. Come to you. "Monday and of course this past weekend. Rob g manny pacquiao took online. I don't even want to mess up his name. Your genus uganda's. That i say that right. That's close enough. You guys. ooh gus bugatchi beating surprise victory. Of course many was supposed to aerospace junior aerosmith. Junior suffered detached retina in. Sounds like it hurts well. And that's look that's what. What should i say delayed Sugar ray leonard's career. No that was a long time. Ago and medicine and medical work has improved. Obviously but that's why he stopped fighting after beat timing herds in their first fight he took off many years he he basically he retired because of the detached retina and then came back later to fight but That's a serious thing so we hope that Spins junior can return from that and really get back to being a fighter. He was before that car accident a couple years ago. But anyway you guys finds out two weeks before the fight that he's he's next manny and he goes in air whizzed by unanimous decision. Manny of course forty two years old. No shame your forty two years old darn near forty three. He's he's closer to forty three to forty one so he lost i. What do you think his legacy like. I i don't hold this against his legacy at all. No not at all. Yeah forty two years old but what what do you think of his his legacy is. I hope he retires. I do too. I hope you're right into i. Don't wanna see him go out the way that you know. Delahoya went out where it was just knocked into. Ab- knocked out into retirement. I don't want I think his legs. He's one of the most exciting fighters ever i think. Definitely that generation. He was easily. The most exciting fighter can't say he was the best because he also did lose a handful of times including a complete whitewashed by fly mayweather. Who just here's he he. I think you could argue. Like for instance. I jeff horn so he was sixty eight sixty two eight to the jeff horn loss. I didn't think he lost that fight. No nor that's how to fight. Same bradley fighting the i. I thought he won that in fact i was watching that fight up down in. La live we had just been doing our tv show nba countdown. When i was at the other network. And i stayed in wash that fight there. And i left after the fight was over before they announced the decision because i was certain pack. Y'all had one. And i was shocked that he lost but those are two losses the floor fight now.

"He just had a lot of injuries in a year. Where everybody around the league with getting injured so it's a blessing to be able to get a guy like freelance already. Have a proven quarterback. That's twenty two and eight when he starts and jimmy garoppolo. So he's he wasn't going to he well he didn't inherit a bad team. He inherited a super bowl team a team. That was just an super bowl two years ago now. He can sit and learn behind a veteran quarterback and then take the reins over when jimmy garoppolo leave. There's no there's no other situation that he could've landed in would have been better than that. I'm with you on it. Tell me about jimmy. G. like we see some of the deficiencies physically and stuff. But like you said they're twenty two and eight with him and that same team. Same defense running game same. Coaching staff is seven and twenty-seven overdose for years without jimmy g. What is it about him. I mean the dude is a winner. I know we don't have a super bowl but he seems like he's a winner. What is it about him. That makes that difference with the niners. I understand it's college shanahan system and whether he has thought about ten times a game twenty times a game three times the game. He's willing to do that. He understands this. Offense is is predicated on running the football. A lot of run pass options where. You're taking advantage of the defenses Bad is and being in a bad position and getting a lotta easy throw. So as long as he has a running game can get the easy throw. They have dominant defense or somewhere around the top. Fifteen jimmy garoppolo the starting quarterback in the league. He's gonna win a lot of football games. He just has to stay healthy. He hasn't been healthy over the last three years. He's coming off his best spring You know. I was at practice last week against the chargers. Yeah it was a lot of you know back talk and guys you know talking to jimmy. Garoppolo from charger sideline. But for the most part. He held his own. And i'm thinking that he's up for a big year this year. Now you as. I said earlier you from cleveland. I imagine you grew up as a browns fan. How how good think. The hype is too much for them this year. You think they really are legitimate super bowl contenders for the cleveland browns. Yup i deal legitimate super bowl contenders in and say that mainly because no built the right way..

"Chris and i have him as a second quarterback as well tampa bay doesn't even come close to sniff in the playoffs. Without tom brady and he might not throw for gazillion yard but his leadership if him and knows meeting rooms if him motivating the guys that pushed him over the edge. I don't know how you calculate leadership in there but that's all it takes seven rings. He's super bowl champion from last year. He's definitely in a top ten. And guess what you might have opportunity to win two in a row desk when i'm talking about that's why that's why you you are a rising star in this game You you kept their real and you told the truth. So i appreciate that but let me ask you this when you voted. Because you did you vote for. Somebody's back when you play chris. None of the players ever voted for that. When it came to me is how does it work. I don't know so. I guess the powers-that-be vote for but the players really don't vote for it. I've never voted for top one hundred in my career in eleven years. I've never voted once. We're top one hundred didn't come. Did somebody presenting. Because they're they're promoting this as the players. Vote play now. I don't know. I don't know if they pick select players on each team but they do not pick the entire team to vote for the top one hundred so you know. I don't know where they get that from afar. Pro bowl yes. I voted for pro bowl every year. But as far as the top one hundred on. Nfl network not wanting my career. How seriously did you and your teammates are guys you around the league. Take the voting for pro bowl. We cooked very fiercely. Okay guys look forward to you. Know it's great. It's cool to make it to the nfl in you know. It's a dream for a lot of people but to become a part of the one percent all the one percent bass especially when his self so that pro bowl everybody was in there You know attention with fully paid and he wanted to make sure that the right guys got in so that's more validated than the top one hundred. Okay cool cool cool now. You played a forty niners doing your career and obviously now. They're the big quarterback controversy. If you were running the niners. Can you say at this point. Would you go more with trae lance as the starter or would you stick with jimmy jimmy g. and i'll say this mainly because i don't think freelance is fully ready. Yes he has the tools and capabilities. Yes he has arm strength yes. He was very knowledgeable. Kid any push to work in. What is what is technique with you. Know understanding defenses there knowing where to go with the ball but in that second free i mean first. Preseason game steve stack spagnolo shota all why he's not ready and there was an instance in that game down. They tried to give him motions and shift to figure out the coverage. No steve nola went to one of his mad season. Defenses waves online play man and went for surprise zero blitz. And there's no way that a young quarterback is going to figure that out..

"Eight seven seven ninety nine on fox. Tom brady. I got him second. And quarterbacking in the league behind pat. Mahomes i won't quibble if you put him third behind aaron rodgers either but rob g has eighth who's right. We do quickly. Jeremy and orange. Jeremy you're on the fox portrayed. We got jeremy. I normally agree with chris mostly Especially on basketball on this one. I got i got you still he completely elevated the team. I get chris to say but he was absolutely abominable in the nfc title game and still got carried to victory by the team. If aaron rodgers throws three picks title game. they're going to get blown out. Tom brady still won so although he's still very good he there's no way he's better than those of the other people on the list ranked quarterbacks okay he you had them age Eight range how. He's not better than russell wilson right now. He's not better than alan. Not better than rogers. I put him ahead of jack definitely. I'm not sure we're dakhla back ahead of him. Come on come on. yeah. I wanna put back. I'm with you there for sure. Seven thanks a lot jimmy. Appreciate your call quickly. We keep in mind. We got time for one more. Ross is in california. Ross on the aqaba fox portrayed ross. What's chris and at the end of the back of that list hero defense all the way to the super bowl horrible and nfc game jazz mentioned before. And he's just not. He's still a great quarterback lease just not in the top change. Well not in the top half of the top team. So he's not he's like six through eight. You sound like robert g. as that area. Wow wow absolutely history to put him in the classic joe montana and when he got that she can go on with them too though. So you you ain't bernie's he's the go now he can't be now. We got cheated on your record. Come on okay chris. Let let's get to the training update. Yeah yeah this icon. Stand there so. I know you had your boys call in Raji they went to high school with you and all that. So i get that i let us law. We are coming to. You live from the fox sports radio studios our next guest is a former pro bowl defensive. Back now an nbc. Sports bay area analysts homeboy. to from cleveland. Ohio died. Say whitney went up man. I'm doing great creek. Rob you guys. Doing we're good. Brother is great to have you on the show man. And i appreciate you giving us a little time now before we get into like the forty niners and the browns and all that i was just rob gee and i were debating whether or not tom brady as you saw. Nfl dot com has come out with their list of the top. One hundred players. Tom brady is in the top ten somewhere. We don't know where rob g saying. He shouldn't be in the top ten. He's he's not a top seven quarterback anymore in the league. I'm saying he definitely should be in the top ten. And i got him as the second quarterback behind fat mahomes. Where are you at on brady at this point in his career right now. I have a minute top ten with you..

Rogers he asked forty. That's the second most. He's ever thrown in his career. I mean rob. Don't give me this. qbr passer rating. Be as you bring up like yards per game. Which is the most fickle stat and also. It is not fickle when you win fickle when you lose and put him ahead of air rogers because when push comes this shove when i need a w in the postseason whether it's the cold frigid snow laden atmosphere of lambeau or whether it's the sunshine of tampa. "Or they feel like he's just going to you know he's not quite it only takes that four three becoming a four four forty. Yes for him to start getting hit by four three four three seven to being here. I mean really. And so. I think that's kind of what players are telling you of the other. One that stands out his russell wilson now. Russell wilson was number two and he dropped ten spots. Now i don't know if he had a better season That's for someone else to decide. But i can definitely tell you that. It wasn't a worst season. Then he had the year before and somehow he falls ten slots it tells me that. These is who are voting on these lists. They don't have the same criteria. These are voting with something other than an objectively that you'd expect but hold on. He should have never been number two. I think i think twelve is about where he should be. Maybe a tad higher okay. But i think i think too. I mean obviously. Tom brady wasn't to no last year. Aaron rodgers wasn't to name the number to either. You had lamar which is crazy right. So that leads me to tom. Radio okay. Tom brady won the super bowl. He is the greatest quarterback ever a mocking to say that he's not. I can't make a case to say that. He's not going to be rob parker and try to force you to think that he's not because he is but who he is now is not a top ten player in the nfl who he is now. Much like lebron. James is a very very very good player. But he's not quite. That elite elite quarterback that he had been in the past. I'm not going to give you an order. Because i it's your quibbling about it but here's a guys that i have right now as quarterbacks ahead of tom brady josh allen shawn watson pat mohme's aaron rodgers russell wilson dak prescott lamar jackson but if i had a wicked quarterback right now tom brady or x. These are guys. I'm definitely taking above tom. Brady so what was that. He seventh so that makes him makes.

"I like about this. Rob g a robin i. We criticize players for a lot of their. You know votes and you know when they in the nba. They pick the all stars and half of them. Don't pick lebron and half of them. Don't pick in that type of foolishness. But i do like. And i think because these lists i'll allow you feel. They're not totally off the wall. So i do think that players take them fairly seriously. And i think they really try to. You know make good picks and so the nfl dot com of course top one hundred players ask chosen by curry nfl players. And we're waiting for the top ten unveil. We know the players right. We just don't know the order. Here's the order alpha the top ten players in nfl heading into this season. This is an alphabetical order. Now on saturday next weekend they will be named in the order that they are. But you got devante atoms. You got josh allen. Tom brady aaron. Donald derrick henry the andre hopkins travis kelsey pat mahomes air rogers and tj white. I mean look. You can quibble over a few. It does if you want but but honestly is hard to argue against that top ten. I mean again. There might be a guy here there. You wanna put in there. But i do have a huge problem with that. I have a jain norm his problem with that. Well it's me i know. Giant enormous is. Is you. But i normally problem with this list. I do i do now. This is supposed to be the top. One hundred players not quarterbacks not offensive players top one hundred players period okay there is one name that stands out above the rest that i got to put a b. astra's next to it and that is one tom brady. Not only is he. Not a top ten player in the nfl. Right now okay. I could make an argument that he's even a top ten quarterback right now. Waste rob stop.

"I had a really really good time interviewing Kevin Jones displaced music and let's get right to that interview. Here we go home office rather talk money was not an issue, but guys like a sauna. All right, welcome to terrific talk. I've got a great guest for you today. Kevin Jones is the founder and CEO of blue wire, which is a widely successful Sports podcast company bulb wire host over a hundred forty different podcast with over twenty million downloads last year athletes like Megan Rapinoe Baron Davis Greg Olsen Evander Kane, they all have podcasts on the platform and it's an amazing thing that Kevin is built here and truly truly. It is inspiring. We're all kind of searching to make it in the business and Kevin was working really hard bouncing around as a beat reporter trying to make it home. Journalism, and he was like, what's my opportunity here? Where where do I have to grow? And you know, he had a lot of guts and he started his own thing and believed in himself and the idea and it's awesome Thursday the success he's having now and for all that hard work and belief to pay off. So Kevin, welcome to terrific talk man. Congratulations on your success. Oh man. Yeah, I'll send you the check in the mail for the intro there. And that was a pastic. I appreciate it. I'm happy to be kind of this inspirational figure was never my plan. But I definitely have been through quite a journey to get to today founding blue wire and and kind of feeling this company with 25 full-timers now. Yeah. It it less than three years ago August of 2018. So, um, yeah man happy to unpack everything your your listeners are awesome. I love the content you're creating. Thank you means a lot. So I always kind of find the names of companies interesting. I don't I don't think the name, you know, really matters a whole lot and it's more about you know, whatever the competition. Producing and making that people really care about but but how did you come up with the name blue wire? I get my mom credit. I never give her credit for anything. So mommy, you get the credit of wage, you know, it was between blue wire and swoop. I don't think I've ever told this on a podcast before I actually like soup more it didn't sound good. But that was the intention was we were going to come in and swollen listeners from radio from Barstool from ring or from other places, but blue wire. It has evolved economy. No plug influencer is now plugged themselves into the audience instead of being broadcasted out to the world and so blue wires are plugged for creators. We're plug from Megan Rapinoe and her faith and we're plugged for Pepsi to reach young sports fans. So I haven't leaned into the name too much. I it's kind of fun to say blue wire. That's how we landed on it off. Our website blue wire pods right now, you know looking at rebranding potentially but blue wire will be the name and we you know, we were founded as a podcast company or growing quickly to be more than that. So blue wire and smooth but the the two liter yes woop swoop like Sheryl Swoopes. I got my mom and I think Iraq to a few podcasters who I was recruiting at first and they all Like Glue wire. Well, it's a good it's a good choice. I like blue wire before we get into blue wire and all the success that you have in there now. I wanted to talk to you a little bit about how may got there and some of the challenges you faced along the way though you graduated from East Carolina University and twenty eleven ten years ago. Now almost and you want to work in broadcasting obviously Sports kind of tell us about your journey and someone stops along the way there. Oh, man. What a journey. It's been yeah, I think is how I got in the door, which is crazy local TV is almost in dog. Awful shape but I see RG3 was a rookie Bryce Harper was a rookie. I was a rookie in D C. So I started blogging about these guys tweeting about these guys from my coverage was focused thoughts on those two instead of the teams and my Twitter started taking off a little bit. I actually got fired from that job. I drank Margaritas on the job. I took it for granted. I thought I was hot chick cuz I had 2,000 or 3,000 Twitter followers. So it was a humbling Learning lesson for me. I also rigged a contest there to have one of my friends when it was like a lot of strikes where they're like, oh dude your your neural trouble your I was twenty-three. The good news is the Cleveland Browns loved what I was doing their website was run by a couple of old dudes at the time and they took a new regime coming in there. Like we need someone who's good at Twitter. We need someone talking to Young fans. I somehow clicked with them got hired to be a reporter for the Cleveland Browns, which is interesting working team side job. You don't have your full voice, but I flew on the plane with Johnny Manziel. I went to Paul Kruger's wedding. I smoked weed with Donte Whitner, you know experience. I played video games with all the players all the time. So you you when you're creating content on the team side and your you're really a marketing employee. You're not really a journalist. But yeah, it was an amazing experience a lot of backstabbing and that culture with the vice president and the company was not a place. I wanted to be long term but works, you know some of the best experiences in my life. I met Kyle Shanahan there. I met a lot of really good connections being Cleveland then I moved to San Francisco and worked for KNBR. Um, the main radio station down here. I wrote articles for the website went on video tired of small social team around me. I was first time I had my voice I was able to see whatever I wanted to about Steph Curry about Colin Kaepernick, and it was just a cool time to be in the Bay Area. Eventually making $50,000. They're banging my head against the wall. I'm twenty-eight. What am I actually doing besides getting Twitter followers making good content. I looked around. I'm never going to get a radio chair here with Gary radnich. Sixty-year-old just re-signed to a four-year contract radio was in huge trouble. Now, they realized that they developed. No young Talent right? I'm looking around Twitter page is a Warrior's podcast. There's a Raiders podcast. I can almost go make something better than KNBR right now with other creators. I don't I don't need to be here anymore. So left my contract there. I was upset at the time. I didn't know what I was doing. I I almost took a job with TMZ sports. I almost took a job with the Brooklyn Nets and almost to.
