"On the Paul fine bombshell where it is me. Roman Harper, the host for the day. I'm really excited about this. Let's look at it. I think we've got a tweet that's coming in. What's up with the butterfly brooch, huh? Where can I get one? All right, Chris, I will tell you exactly where I got it from. This is actually his name is Stephen Wilson. He's a local artist here in Charlotte, North Carolina. I'm good friends with him and his family, his wife, Andrews, amazing. And actually, my daughter, London, created this butterfly for me. She did a couple of them for me. She knows. I love doing lapel pins. And I'd love to have a little swag. So it's just a little simple touch to have my daughter and my family represented, but also shout out to my boy Steven, who this is kind of what he does. So he's big into butterflies and other things. Now with that being said, let's get into, this is what they wanted to talk to me about because who else can talk to you about fashion better than me. Every time I'm on this show, Paul is always asking me, hey, what do you come up with this? Who's your stylist on this? You know what my stylist is? It's me. So my draft fashion, do's, and don'ts. Let's look at some past examples of maybe some dudes and some don'ts. Let's go. Ray Lewis. First of all, it's Versace. And it's Versace. That's all I got. Dante Fowler, look, you dress it all down with the white, but I'm bringing out the gold shoes. Zeke, no. I'm not doing it. It's just a no. Period. Jamal Adams loved the double breasted suit. I wish you would have the shirt, button all the way up or a tie. Lamar Jackson, it's Gucci belt. Like, that's all you need. What else you need? Look, I love burrow. I love him. But it's COVID, right? So I get it. He goes, and he hasn't excused nobody's at the draft. It's COVID. He does have an IC number 9 chain, though. And so my biggest due is look, I think ty is necessary. I think non tie is okay, as long as I'm buttoned up to the top, I think you can have non collars. I'm cool with that as well. I just don't like to all opened up look for the draft. Look, man, first impressions matter, all right? It matters. And so because I never got to go to the draft, I want these young men to be dressed to the 9s and have your suit picked out. I'm cool with inside. You see that? It's a dress it all the way up. Don't just come out here, just looking into a kind of way. Take it all the way down to the final details of it. Also, I see a lot of guys wearing lapel pins now. I think it's a good thing. But make sure the lapel pin has the right side. See this? The inside. Not on the outside. I don't want to see it. It's just distracting. It takes away from the beautiful suit that you're wearing young men. Let's do this. Make sure your shaved up, you're looking good. And I actually like that the NFL is doing more stuff from the homes too. So now we get to see the interactions with more family. So I'm cool with it. All right. Let's get in one more call to try and squeeze in when we're called. Jackson, you're on the Paul finebaum show with Roman Harper. Thank you, everyone. Thank you for taking the call. And should this now be called the Roman Harper show? You know what? I'm going to take a vote, Jackson. I know I keep paying everybody to come in and give me all these great compliments, but my tab is running high, but thanks, Jackson. Maybe so. So on the draft this year, obviously three SEC quarterbacks projected to go in the first round. On Anthony Richardson, just some stats found is he worth that his pick projected, I don't know what, the last mock draft was and going 7th or 8th overall, but if he wore his value that high. So the crazy thing Jackson is number one that quarterback is the most overdrafted position in the NFL. So you got to understand that too. So it comes with it. And they don't matter. It's a reason why a wide receiver can sit out a Jamar chase can set out his senior year as junior and still get drafted in the top 5 because they don't care about what you do in the college. They don't care if you get paid. They don't care what your stats are. It's all about projecting onto the next level. And right now, Anthony Richardson has one of the highest ceilings, if not the highest ceiling of all the quarterbacks in this draft. He just hasn't done it yet on the field. So the biggest problem that coach has always have is that hey, I can fix some coach, let me get him. And that's what you're going to see how to Anthony Richardson. And we don't know. So Jeff Benedict is coming up, guys. You have no idea. I've been waiting on this guy all day, can't wait. Thank you for listening to the Paul fine bomb show podcast. The Paul fine bomb show airs weekdays on the SEC network beginning at three eastern.

"Mcclay, you know, everyone knows this Jerry Jones is offensive line. It's like, you know, there's a reason that people keep trying to hire one clay. You know, I mean, he's really good at his job. He's the guy who's actually like telling people, you know, what picks to make and is doing a pretty good job of that. Do you think that they run enough zoni concepts to make Tyler linderbaum worth the investment? I mean, you know, I just see him as such an outside zone guy, but I don't know if I don't know if it's like one of those things where he's just so good and so athletic off the ball that you pretty much assume he can do anything. I wonder if they do want to get back to that at some point. I mean, they're heyday with his eco Elliot and those early dak Prescott days. That was one of the Staples of that offense. And then Travis Frederick obviously has the guillain Barre syndrome and was never quite the same after that and obviously he's retired at this point. They just can't do what they used to do up front. And Frankie, this was a team that threw a lot in sort of neutral situations last year. I actually don't have the numbers in front of me, but I am going to make that claim and assume it was true because I'm just basing that off watching them all season. So that's one, that's one spot. I mean, I could see it. I could see them going with the title linder bomb here and trying to recapture that old magic. With some of the outside zone self and Travis Frederick was the best reach blocker in the NFL. The linebacker thing is really interesting just because if you want to, on one hand, if you want to keep on moving like a Parsons around, which they should want to. That worked out really well last year. You had that option. They did bring in Dante Fowler on the edge. They also, they have jabril Cox from last season kind of an interesting pure speed linebacker who maybe they feel good about him and pairing him with van der resh if they move Parsons around. But you want me to totally hijack this conversation with yeah, I do because I don't really know where I want to go here for the cowboys. I would think too. And again, I mean, Dan quin reinvented himself. So let's not assume that this is him trying to recreate the best things that he's had. With the falcons, but devonte Wyatt is still on the board and their interior.

"Again, I don't know if they have a spot for those guys given the fact that judean is gonna play a ton. Yeah, so it would be really fun if you had Matt judon coming off one edge and Chandler Jones coming off the other. She had never schemed it that way. Third and 11, right? You know, situation like that. But is Chandler Jones coming here to play situationally. Is Matthew judon going to take a decrease situational role. They don't really have much of an offense for those two guys on the defense for those two guys on the field at the same time because they like to have one guy's pass rusher. The other guy's going to set the edge and help against the run. That's chewed on in van noy, right? So it would be fun. It's just they'd have to rework their entire defense to make it happen. And they're not going to pay jail or Chandler Jones, what they need to pay them to rework their entire defensive system to put them. I just don't see it. It'd be fun. It would be fun, but it's not schematically how it works. So when Matthew gion was doing his press tour during Super Bowl week. He was on Velcro as he was on a couple of different programs here locally. Everybody was buying him on the coaching staff. The situation between Gerard Mayo and Steve Belichick, you guys like those two guys, you guys know who's in charge. Those types of things. So I thought the most interesting thing that he said was once things started to unravel for the Patriots at the end of last year that guys were out for themselves. They just went out there and tried to make plays, right? And tried to kind of leave the scheme and take over because they just wanted to turn the tide. I think he was talking about himself. Quite frankly, right? Because we talked about this a lot on the podcast that Matthew judon towards the end of the season was kind of out for his, right? He was going out there and just to try to get sacks, who's running the arc. He's running past quarterbacks. He was letting go of the edge. When they're on discipline in this Bill Belichick scheme out on the edge, the whole thing comes crumbling down. It's such a big part of the way that they rush the passer, defend the run, all of it is setting a firm edge being disciplined out there. You add guys like Dante Fowler and Chandler Jones and with Matthew judon, you're going to have a lot of guys ending up ten 11 yards past, you know, running past the quarterback, right? That's not what they want. They need somebody, whether it's Kyle van noy coming back and having a strong season, a draft pick like Ronnie Perkins emerging. They need somebody on the other side of judean that's going to set a strong side edge. It's going to be able to do it. Kavanaugh actually did it pretty consistently for most of the year last year. Obviously everybody kind of let go of the rope late in the season. But for the first ten 11, 12 games van noy was pretty solid. I think that he could add something, but he could also add $4 million in cap space if they release them. So that's another one that we can talk about. Let's end it there. We talked a lot about Matt ariza for Alex. He got him on his PFF mock trap simulator..

"Now, right before the snap, which should be which they'll go back and Josh will hit on this with Mac, is you start seeing geron harman start to go a little bit more towards the sideline and in a little bit. That should have been an indicator to Mac Jones that something funky might happen here. And I need to keep an eye out on that right side. And also, we should say this in terms of how I'm not overly concerned about this. This whole thing, the couple plays that they got them on dean P's used to work for the Patriots. Both of dean's piece and Arthur Smith used to work for Mike vrabel. These guys know how the Patriots protect. And they know their mic protection system, where it's, you know, when Mac Jones points out the linebacker, the Patriots are the offensive line responsible for the four down linemen plus whoever the mic line backer is. And so anybody else outside of that, the quarterback is responsible for. So if they come, you either got to throw hot, throw away, do something. So. They are about to go through it and you see this creeping cornerback from max Wright, creeping a little bit and he's already way inside Jacoby Myers, who's the middle receiver. Another indication of Mac that's something might funky might be going on because he's not really in coverage on Jacoby Mayer. So what's going on? So basically what happens is it's a zone blitz. The cornerback comes, geron Harmon replaces the cornerback in coverage and it's not really good coverage. It's wide open if Mac wants to throw hot there. And then on the other side, Dante Fowler instead of rushing he drops out. So it's a fire zone blitz. That's what they call it in football speak. And Mac just looks left because he thinks he has hunter Henry and he's waiting for hunter Henry. He never looks back to his right. He does not see the cornerback coming, who's a little hidden, you know, behind the tackle behind Trent Brown and the right end. You don't see much past Trent Brown. And so he does a really good job of snaking in behind turn balance, so max Jones probably doesn't seem coming..

"Smith are in wind now mode win. I think the these moves may be incongruent with that. A talking point for this team falcons want to win now. Terry knowing arthur smith want to win now okay but i also in survived now vote so they they want to win matt now but i would say there are survived now of katie's wired to win but they're not going to go out. This isn't like what happened. With the falcons. The last two or three years you when you rrestructuring guys. You're signing dante fowler. You're you're bringing back. Todd guler early you doing. All the staff which i rode people are upset. Identity was going to work. that's fine. Nobody has to send me an apology. It's okay. I know you still love me in your heart. It's it's cool this narrative that they were in win now mode as you are defining win now was wrong to begin with at said they were wrong. They never wanted to restructure matt. You have to start with that. They were not. They did not want to do it. And i look. I am of the belief that will never going to know the answer to this for truth. But i'm of the belief that when terry fought knowin- arthur smith came to the falcons knew it was a bad kept situation. I'm not sure they knew how bad it really was. Okay into you really started looking at the situation into two. You really started seeing. wow we. there's not too many options here. we can do. Yeah a absolutely one hundred percent guarantee you that font no did not come to atlanta expecting or wanting to restructure maira up. Hey doesn't mean he doesn't want to win now doesn't mean. He doesn't exist capable quarterback but he wants to get out of this cap held at this franchise in an he did it because in in two arthur In concert because they had to survive k. And in the rest happens whatever the rest happens But they were not going all out to win a super bowl this year. I'm sorry this. This spoils the the julio jones kyle pits calvin ridley hayden hers russell gauge you know offense were matt was gonna throw for six hundred yards and seven touchdowns. Every game was a famous chiseled in stone even more so than kyle pits going to the to the to the allah fame. Before he's played. I get it. I totally get it this but this bunk that they were hearing not just and i'm not blaming fans fans fans. I don't mean that as a criticism but you you see things your car okay. Yeah at this bunk. That has been spun by so many national media members can't believe they would do this when they were in when they were never forget in win now mode go all out. The super bowl was not. Do they wanna win. Yes but they're not going to go all out and bury the future even more than saudi beardie to do it. And i don't answer your question. I think that's the right perspective because it is. It has been some of the national media confusing to me. That has been any names. Because they're very nice people in a lot of really no football they. Some people are friends of mine. And i'm dislike. What are you people writing. What are you saying. And i yeah i don't yeah just going to let it go before this guy. Calm down me. I apologize of. I do think though that the it was made to be more simple than the situation really is. And and i think that's and that's almost always the case with these things. You know the whole thing with trading. Julio i think was made to be far more simple than it really was a lot of things at play Including the fact that he wanted out. And i think that probably the best thing to do when you see a situation and it looks black and white is to take a step back and say there's probably some something else going on here. Some additional details. We don't know and i get for fans it's maddening because you wanna know why you wanna know sure. Why is my favorite player. Being shopped around on on the the trade block But again it's these situations are rarely ever just black and white a win now versus for the future. You know if i'm a gm. I want both but that's just mickey. Yeah yeah and and look if we're living in a world like baseball or whatever something raising he can play economic situations in this data caps situation. Then you know. Maybe if julio jones wanted to stay you do it right and money's not an issue lahser owners willing to spend money and you spend money but just not it's just not the reality of life in the nfl. It's not an and they were not going to. I mean i hate to break any anybody's vulgar. They were not gonna win the super bowl this next season with. Julio jones is just any you know that defense looks like how much they have to prove with a running game and you have an offense. Even if you think matt ryan can still play at a high level on. Cd's he can't but you if you think he can. There's a transition with a new office scheme in any new coaching style. You don't know. And while i think this team has been poorly coached couple of years And while i think some guys are going to perform better overall product is going to be better would. There's a lot of players we don't know they're going to respond. We don't know how they're gonna play in the scheme. We don't know how it on both sides of the ball. We don't have responded. These coaches Maybe they peaked already. Maybe the falcons gave money to some guys. I'm not gonna mention names that they should not have. And these guys are all going to be judged on a whole new level with new sets of eyes with no loyalties to the past whatsoever and and there's a lot of the year right now and it is fear and this is not critically jared. Because i think he's phenomenal and needs to be a part of the future and i don't think anyone franchise thinks otherwise but things go horribly this year you know. Are you thinking. I'm just throwing this out there. Are you thinking. Can we commit x number of dollars to one player defensive tackle when we have so many more holes to fill than we thought right this. I mean seriously so it's another reason. Why maybe the falcons didn't wanna go down that road right now. Outside of the fact. That just wasn't really feasible I just think there's a lotta decisions are gonna spin off. What happens this season. Who's kept who goes gets paid. Who doesn't get paid who we have can on from. I just think it's like starting with a clean chalkboard all over again. And i think this was never a situation where it was going to get fixed or completely rebuilt in one season regardless this was never going to be twenty twenty one. And we're done. This is probably a multi year project to your point where they're going to keep reevaluating some of these guys in figuring out there their long-term fit on the team. And you know even with guys like diaw jones and grady jarrett. If they're looking two years out those guys are gonna be approaching thirty. And and that's the point where you start wondering if that's the guy you're going gonna commit to for long run and this is what we signed up for. I mean fans wanted. Thomas dmitrov in dan quinn gone and they got their wish and i think it was the right decision. I think everyone believes it was right decision but along with that that means the new regime comes in and they re evaluate everything including your star future hall of fame wide receiver. Which is where. Jeff thank you again I mentioned this on twitter. And i'm going to reemphasize you're on the podcast for all the reporting i've been watching. Yours has been the most consistent on these. themes with the falcons. I think it's held up the most consistently over the past three or four months So kudos to that. Because it's been a roller coaster. We've seen some wild reports over the last three months. But i think your experience with this team has has shown over the past three months and is accredited work. You've been doing so on thinking. Yeah on that note tiller listeners where they can find you what you have going on Well since my week won't be interrupted by another flew straight trade. I could spend an hour on that one Yeah you can find everything. I write which i will be falcons minicamp I think tomorrow the next couple of days but yeah just the athletic dot com. "Appreciate you listening and making me a part of your Saturday Let's head to the Dirty South and be joined by Orlando Di Ledbetter. He covers the Falcons for The Atlanta Journal Constitution. Orlando Appreciate hopping on with us today. Sure. Thanks for having me on the Harrison experience. No, we appreciate you Let's start here. So there was a report earlier this week that Julio Jones is possibly going to be traded this offseason. So with Julio, do you think he could be traded this off season? Yeah, Everything's pointing towards that. That the days of him in Atlanta or number did our reporting this week. Our stores up on legacy dot com that you know, In fact, that day, the pier number You know they need the salary cap space. Or the rookie class, but it looks like a parting of the ways with their long time. Great receiver is coming up here, Stupid. When you think of Julio Jones, you got the chance to watch him last season. How much do you think he has left in the tank? Do you think Julio still an elite level wide receiver, or do you think last year sort of the beginning of the end? You know, 32 33 is usually when you see a dip, Roddy White didn't make it past 33. But, you know, maybe he can be, uh, Larry Fitzgerald and refashioned himself. I think he has got you know he's worth seeing if he can go for another couple years. No question about it. Even if he's not at top elite level, Julio still would be one of the better receivers in the league, so I think there is there some gas left in that cake. Because I'm looking at it. You bring up Roddy White. I think that's interesting where I let off with. I don't think that he's a J green like I still think there's a little bit more left in the tank like I think a J Green is completely done. But if you look, it's sort of how things decline for AJ Green. It wasn't much different than what happened last year for Julio Jones age or Green was a Pro Bowl tight wide receiver. He got injured one year and he's never really bounced back left last year was that first sort of injury year for Julio Jones, where I do have some Some curiosity on whether he could go back to being that dynamic playmaker. He was Yeah, no question about it. I would not still, uh, have comfortable if it was a knee or something like that, You know, hamstring muscle injuries you can you know that it can be managed and fix. Yeah. What does he sail? Have the force up for four speed? Maybe not. But you know, he'd be a difficult low coming out slide against, you know, most Nickelback so I think you know there's a rope for him somewhere still in the league on If we can't get it done outside, you could move him inside so big that he be automatic mismatch in a lot of offenses. Right now we're talking Orlando Di Ledbetter, who covers the Atlanta Falcons on Julio Jones. What kind of compensation do you think the Falcons are looking for? If they trade Julio Jones? Is it a one? Is it a two? What do you think the Falcons want in exchange for Jones. I'm here to do it A three maybe, maybe a four. You know the markets kind of depressed for 33 year old wide receivers. You know, it would have been ideal for them to trade him during the season. Last year, he was healthy. That's trading deadline and probably could have got a one. But right now we're hearing the two of the three or maybe a four. A couple picked there because they can't take any players back because that would No that would mess up their salary cap situation even more. Yeah, That's what I keep hearing. How did Atlanta is? Salary cap situation gets so bad? Yeah. You know what happened was after they went to the Super Bowl. They started signing up there What they thought was the core players And, uh, you know, gave him my arm. Very body got market share deals even from Devante Freeman. Dion Jones. Grady Jarrett met Ryan redo with Julio s o. They wanted to keep their core together, but they failed by, you know, not hidden in the draft pick of the 2017 draft. For their top three of their top four picks in the foot. Four rounds attack McKinley in in the first Duke rally in the third and Sharon Harlow in the fourth, none of them Turned out to be players and then you know, same thing happening. 18 and 19 and then the you know. Free agent signing German brown, James Carpenter. Lasted. Dante Fowler know those guys produced either so sudden, your roster your talent levels in decline, and you can't compete. You know you're in dog fight every week and you're blowing leaves and Losing a lot of games by one score, and that's how they how they kind of got there. Right now. We're talking Orlando di Leadbetter for a couple of more minutes about Julio Jones. Do you think the Falcons would have any apprehension to keeping him in the NFC? Let's say a team like the Packers. Came called and they really wanted Julio Jones. Or do you think they'll only ship him off to the A. F. C Yeah, Packer there are you know they make this They gotta get some cap space 10 teams that could take on the 15.3 salary and they're not one of them, so they have to make a couple moves and so forth. New England is, you know, one that we're keep hearing? Um, you know, reuniting him and suppose he wants to play a chord to a reporter out of Boston radio station up there. Does he want to play with Cam Newton? So I'm sure they you know, run hang out here in Atlanta together in the dirty South. But you said so. Those are two teams. I'm You know, keeping an eye on? You know, Of course, the 40. Niners could be a good landing spot for him, the raisins or another team that we you know, or mentioning as a possible landing spots, the company They could use him, but they got money. But the money is earmarked for various Hlynur and Clinton. Nelson. So, uh, you know, you could can eliminate them so There. There's some options from trade partners, potential trade partners and a potential deals for the fastest to make Orlando. If I had this lock in a pick, I would pick the Los Angeles Chargers. I think the Chargers are in a city where you always want to make a splash. The team that they share their stadium with is always about making splashes. You've got a young quarterback. You give him another weapon. You close the gap between you and Kansas City. You get closer to clinching a wild card spot. If I had to pick a team right now that I think would do it. I would pick the Chargers. If the Falcons ended up trading Julio Jones, who were some teams, you think make the most sense. Yeah. Yeah, The charges are on that list. You know, certainly with the young quarterback Justin Herbert. He's you know up in comrade a great rookie season. They certainly would be one on that list. But, yeah, New England, Green Bay, You Ravens and the Raiders keeping an eye on the Raiders, because you know, they know went after Antonio Brown a couple years ago, so Those are some of the teams that you know we could blend with. I appreciated that Orlando Di Ledbetter. He covers the Atlanta Falcons for the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Orlando Man, have a great rest of your day. Do the same Carrington and enjoy your Harrison experience and enjoy coming on your shoulder day..

"Gr BUFFALO Sports Radio 5 50 Sigmund Bloom with us from football, guys might show up in the bulldog here on WJR. Talk about Josh. Alan. We're on quarterbacks. When two draft Alan so fantasy guys, I don't know exactly you, Sigmund. But the consensus always seems to be Wait, Wait, wait. On guy I feel like that's still right. Because you have so many guys capable of monster years mean five or six guys finishing first are seem that seems plausible. What about Alan? Where does he rank for you? And when's the time And you know what a basic redraft league I think he's Probably third or fourth, but you're right. That what you really want to do is look at that talks here of quarterbacks who could conceivably finished number one overall that be Mahomes, Murray, Alan Lamar Jackson. Jack Prescott. I think 15 that Dare Rogers or something like that, depending on your scoring system, and then you want to get the fourth or fifth out of that group. It is Alan. That's great if the press thought that's great is if it's Murray. That's fine, too. But Mark Jackson That's fine. I think without Don't line up exactly as well as they did last year. I don't want to see a regression to the mean but it really did feel like some of those games. He was so locked in that I think he made for fantasy, at least hit his peak. I know that for him in the team. They're just focus on getting farther in the playoff. What are you going to do with Rogers? Um, does the potential for him getting traded? Like how much? You just assume wherever he'll go? He'll put up monster numbers s. Oh, don't worry about it, Or is there something to be said for if you're gonna pick him as early as you normally would, that you would want to go back to the familiar situation in Green Bay. Well, if the Broncos are the other options. You look at the talent they have around him if he'd be there, I don't know that that's necessarily a downgrade. I do think that if there's any depression in his value right now, because the uncertainty you can take advantage that I don't think he's gonna retire. Latest movement. If there has been movement is more towards him coming back to the Packers. Um I think that we're really the interesting propositions Come in our players like Davante Adams or Courtland, sudden or players that could be affected greatly by where Rogers ends up. I think it's probably at best 50 50 that he leaves now the fight some of that talk. I think that emotions have died down. But I also think this is something for anybody playing fantasy or doing early bet on player process. We have some situations like leading in on the break there with Julio Jones. You know Kyle pits and Calvin Ridley or Zach Earth's. I think maybe Dallas daughter is being underestimated. So there are some Use that are going to drop, especially after June 1st. If you could get out ahead of that you could profit. About Julio Jones segment. I was eager to ask you about him. You know he could be traded. Let's just talk about it like he like He is here for a minute so he could be traded to a team. Anybody trading for him has big ideas, Big hopes and dreams for Julio Jones. So that's a good thing if you if you happen to have him and you know, it's hates always have it. Be the Ravens, but you could see him go to a team. We're just like you would not expect the volume to really Work out. What is he? As in terms of a Zafran Isi commodity? What is he for You right now with this news. Of underrated, You know, even last year, I know he was banged up, but he produced like Julio Jones has always produced. He may be in that AJ green decline phase, but I'm not going to believe it until I see it That Jeff shows article that was reference was very Great forward did not mince words basically, and that's something that's been on the radar since February that the Falcons we're gonna have to comport just to be able to find their draft picks, and that's after they've had four players restructure their contracts, and other player Dante Fowler took a pay cut. They really only have the options, and Schultz said sources tell him so. This isn't just him trying to do the math himself. It's really just Grady Jared or Who you Jones. And Jarrett. They would have to either restructure or signed to an extension, and his agent says they haven't even approached him about that. So this would be odd to wait this long. That's the plan. They're not going to restructure Julio Jones. I don't want to put more cap pain in the future because Rat Ryan's like 48 million captain next year. Why do you think who you are being traded? It is what they want to happen. It's just a question of which team takes me. Mention Baltimore, Jeff Schultz mentioned Baltimore. Also other teams he mentioned where San Francisco Indianapolis New England and, most interestingly, the Charger. Because they have that rookie quarterback contract. Certainly they could take great advantage of his skills. I just don't know if this is a team that is thinking that big S so I think those are the teams were looking at. Obviously, if he goes to Baltimore, that's going to be a deflating moment for Julio Jones draft stock, although if you have Lamar Jackson now you'd be really excited about him. No, the Chargers. That's a great idea. I don't know either. What they're what they're thinking. But like they have just sort of There is a void there at receiver after Keenan Allen That people are always sort of trying to figure out. They drafted that Palmer. Tyronn Johnson wasn't bad. Guidant wasn't bad. Mike Williams is still there. Henry is gone. There's room like that Zingre spot if that's what happens. And I think that it's a big world. Story. I'm in the car, okay? Yeah. My wife was driving wasn't me, Thankfully, okay. Good God. Where were we? Okay. No, I just have a little shaking myself. We're good. We're talking about Julio Jones brought the charges up. We could move on. How about the Detroit thing today? So Anthony, Speaking of the Chargers, Anthony Lynn made some comments about how excited he is to have Jamal Williams. On his team. And maybe if you had DeAndre Swift, you'd be a little worried. Should you be worried? Well, I would have been maybe a little worried anyway. Just because this is gonna be a losing team, and it's a team that's not gonna have a lot of good, run friendly game scripts, but they do have an excellent offensive line..

"Well, what he is right now. It's probably guy is not ready to play in the NFL. I think fields is ready. And like I said, not a lot of guys with his level tools. You can't teach Mack Jones to run for four. You can teach Justin Fields to get faster. Nothing allow this Christians. They're also just Ohio State's offense downfield passing offense. They're throwing the ball deep. And even when there is blitzes like there's no hot reads for him to get the ball in his hands quickly, so I do think he is being very much over analyzing this scenario. We're talking to Mike Runner. Pro football Focus. Lee draft analyst Kyle Pits He's he's receiving as Much. Verbal bouquets is Jude Avian Clowney. It feels like like, Is it too much here? I honestly don't think of this. It's who can. Who can, you know? Go over the top. The most in their praise for Cal pits at this point, and it's really is the way he moves for a guy who's six FT five almost 66 to £45. Those guys don't exist on NFL fields exist on basketball courts there just, you know, and other sports. You just don't see guys with his level of movement skills and then could ask to catch ability, and he's got the biggest wingspan ever measured for anyone at a pro day and it's just all these sort of things piled together. And I think you look at why tight ends fail in the NFL because they can't go out. Be quarterbacks. If you just want to put Richard Sherman on Jason Witten, you know when it's prime, Richard Sherman shut, Jason went down. So CAL pits, though you saw him go up against top cornerbacks and comfortable on the outside, winning one on one consistently, and that's when it's like this guy's kind of what everyone's looking for because he's not gonna be guard about quarterbacks. He's gonna be guarded by linebackers and safeties, and that's the way every time. What would you say to the Falcons if they ask for Some kind of advisement strategy. One, I would say. Hopefully someone wants to Trey Lancer. Justin Fields is sitting there because that if you get the same deal with the Dolphins got you go ahead and take that in a heartbeat. But then, after that, I said, you thank your lucky stars that help. It's sitting there because guys like that don't get picked fourth overall. Fourth overall picture, usually like Dante Fowler. You know, there's guys of sitting there usually number four overall that aren't as sure a thing as caliphates is, do you like wide receivers in the top 10? I go back and forth on this because you can find them in the second round you find in the third round. I mean, do you came back at a J. Brown Terra MacLaren in recent years, it is possible, but when a guy's as good as my pinch marks a small issue You take that certainty because it's a valuable position. What That guy brings the table. Just changes defense is and what they have to do to yourself. Yeah, When you're that good, I'll go ahead. Take marches I saw were pro football focus likes the mind Receiver, I think is going to be a steal Elijah Moore. He might not be a steal, though, as we get closer to the draft because he's gotten a whole lot of Publicity and you really got to go out of your way to watch old Miss games or something you know in your butt, but he is It feels like he's going to be great at the next level. Yeah, To me. He is closer to that first year of wide receivers that I was talking about. Then he is to the second tier of wide receivers. He is now five ft nine and playing the slot never was just gonna say Okay, that's a slot receiver at the next level. Now there's a track record for guys like Brandon cooks Tyler Lockett T Y. Hilton, who have been Same size, but it's gotta be an elite athlete. That's Elijah more. And if you go back and look at this production, Yeah, he had, like 500 fewer yards, then Devante Smith, You played five fewer games. So he looked like eight games this past season, put up almost 1200 yards, was utterly dominant down the stretch there for him, and when he went and got pressed by Jason Horn, the South Carolina cornerback who might be the first offensive player in the draft. Couldn't touch him. And that's what that's what you worry about. What guys going on the outside instead of playing the slot, and when he got press the slot, no one could touch him. Give me your thoughts and pro football focuses thoughts on the chief strategy here. They've rebuilt their offensive line. Can they sustain this style? To me. They're playing in all their play a dangerous game. I'm scared to what might that roster might look like it four years because now they're gonna have eight guys once they sign Orlando Brown. So whatever making over $14 million year by far the most in the NFL, everyone said the Rams air You know, a super top heavy team giving up all these first rounders. They only have six guys making 14 million plus years so You have to fill out your roster than when you have that many guys making that much money. You gotta have cheap players. And when you don't have picks now, like they're about to not have picks for a while. They're not going to find she players on rookie deals. And so I think in a few years if guys like, you know, Tyree kill Chris Jones, any of those guys they're paying a ton of money to even Travis Kelsey is into his thirties. Now if they start going downhill and aren't worth that money, aren't that impact player even get hurt something like that. Your window is closing, and you got the best quarterback in the game. You should be going The Patriots, right where you got a 20 year window instead of just the one year window Because we see how fluky that could be a year in and year out If your Pittsburgh are you taking a running back Hell, no. And they, of all people should know. Having seen what James Connor did in their first year there with a good offensive line and then seeing the offensive line go downhill, losing market skill, but at right tackle, losing Ramon Foster having Alejandro Villanueva decline in his thirties. And then all of a sudden, James Connor looking pedestrian. They should know that like that's the biggest driver to success for running back is that often so why in front of them and when you have a good offensive line, it's like, Oh, yeah, that helps you in pass protection, too, which is what everyone is looking for. So to me, deep tackle class be a no brainer to go off tackle for them. How long ago were you on the bachelor? Three years ago, Actually right now, Okay, So I was off by now. But three years ago during draft season, I was out there in L. A What were you doing? Draft coverage while you're competing on the bachelor. So you don't have a phone When you're out there. You can't connect with humanity. But I would be asking the producers because this was during free agency. I'd be like, Hey, where did we're just sitting side? You know where this guy's sign on there. Like why do you care? I'm like, just tell me where they are. Tell me something about the bachelor that I don't see you barely get to talk to the girl. Like so back on my season. I was there three weeks. Talkto less than an hour total. Three weeks of time talked. So like I went out there thinking it's just, you know, you're going to get to hang out with this girl now. Not even close. Is alcohol always available. So it is. I was right after some, like scandal on it toe where they limit you to to an hour but figured out a way around that where it's like, If you start going to an hour early enough in the day, you can stockpile um and then you could drink later. How long did it take for you to make out with Becca? I never did. So I say, Like, within an hour of meeting someone. It just felt weird, so I never did. Oh, my God. I know. Right? Miss option. Oh, do you get do now? Your hair is much shorter now, But do you get people who stop you when they see you that women come up to you? Yeah. I mean, yeah..

"I don't think there is too much to give up. I mean, if you look it if you look at paces, first round success, right? What? What do they say about first round picks to begin with they have what a 50 50 right hitting. It's not a It's not a certainty, that's for sure. So it's like 50 50 as far as a standard general manager's concerned under Ryan Pace. What's been his head? It's been Ro Kwan, right? Yes, that is it. That's it. So I would you give up, bro? Quan Smith? Um yes. Mitch. Travis ke Kevin. Why? Yes. And who am I forgetting with pass rusher from Georgia Letter? Floyd Leonard Floyd, Do you wanna hear like this is give upon for for for two. Shaun, Watch this four first round picks right there. This is how the NFL draft is kind of a crap shoot. Okay, so just go back. Cause we always talk about, like, Give it three years, right? Just conservative. Why I went back to the 2015 draft. Okay. First pick of the draft is Jamis Winston. Followed by Marcus Marry OTA, followed by Dante Fowler. Defensive end Amari Cooper, Brandon Scharff, Leonard Williams, Kevin White, Vic Beasley, Erik Flowers, Todd Gurley Trae Waynes. Danny Shelton Andrews, Pete's Devante Parker, Melvin Gordon, Those Your top 15 picks Now there are some guys in there that you'd like to have right. But there are I don't think there's anyone in that group that you say. Oh, I can't live without him. Of course. I mean, Amari Cooper is really good. Sheriff is a very good offensive tackle letter. Williams has played significantly better in recent years. Quarterback. It's so valuable, someone said of the Herschel Walker deal. And Ricky Williams. Did that prove it was too much. Those air also running backs We've learned through the years quarterback conversations different that they're interchangeable. Yeah, but like S O There is a limit, though. I mean, are you going to give up your first round pick for the next 10 years? Let's just say like, I don't know what the rule is. But when you say Is there anything that's too much to trade for him? We'll have a give up at least three at least. Okay, Well, you first round five. Whatever they want, five and three second round picks. Is that too much? I don't think so. What about six first round picks and five second round picks like I mean, like you, but that's the question here. You're right. You're right. You get to the point where there's too much because going with that, will you well, but you also have to factor into the equation. You can't not make the deal based on fear that somebody's going to get injured. But by the same token, you also have to take into consideration that this sport is different than others, and there is a shelf life. Two players and their careers, especially quarterbacks. So like I would think that that would factor into your decision making and I'm with you. I mean, I'd be willing to give up a king's ransom. But I'm not going to give up five King's ransom's just because it's not I mean, there is a kind of be a limit to it. You can't just order back up anything without a quarterback. The Bears have reached the plaice twice in the last decade. Yes, but you know that they does that mean you need to give up your first round pick for the next 10 years without a quarterback. The Bears have won three playoff games in the 1st 20 years of this, the better it's heard century. Well, that's my point, but it would Your job becomes better and easier if you get the quarterback. Well, that is the key. Here. I get you drafted 20th. You're not going to get him. Okay? But if I let's say I got a different person looking over things I may be able to find the guy. At 15 or 20 that ends up being my my, my quarterback of the future, and then I don't have to give up all that stuff because I have a more competent Talent evaluator, Tony on the South side, Tony, you're on ESPN 1000. What's up? Hey, Thank you guys. Good show this one of, uh, talk about a couple subjects to Colby. And of course, let me start off, said I appreciate it there. Was 10 years old at that point, and that river to claim any So I remember them guys, But let's get back to that one caller that talked about the, uh, the, uh, Kobe and Derrick Rose there. That's not even involved. You take Colby. Derrick Rose was okay player. He could not shoot a jump shot and he would not play defense. So you're not gonna win with some type of guys? Plus, he was only +62. You're not gonna win a championship with a +62 point guard. You're just not gonna do it. Now talking about The shine. Watch it. Two first rounders. I'm not giving up more than two first round mine, Tony. Hey, listen, I'll tell you what he doesn't want to be there. You still have the win. The purpose of the want to sound watching coming here is to win the Super Bowl. If you give up too much, you're not gonna win the Super Bowl. Two first rounders and one of the guys off the defense. It is not going to be real Con Smyth. Boomer Mac, Huh? Keep one of them got you can't give up all of that and expect to win a Super Bowl in the next two or three years. And plus About the shark. I'm coming to Chicago for business purposes. I'm coming to make as much money as possible. Me being a black quarterback in the city of Chicago, Tony, I would I would say with regard to what you'd give up in terms of defensive players Like I don't value the middle linebacker as much as I value the cover corner and the pass rusher. I love rock, Juan Smith. But his position by its very nature is not as valuable as a pass rusher or cornerback. Right? So I would probably disagree with you on that front of it took another player. And again you're not gonna win the Super Bowl without without the quote that it is one anomaly If you do drafting 20th now, this is why I give you three of them. Okay, give you three. I give you three first trumpets. This one's gonna be 20. If I've got to Shawn wants and I've got other needs, but I still think I'm going to be better than I was this year. It is a bit better quarterback and I'll find a way to get my defense playing back on a much higher level. So 2020 two's first round pick is going to be higher than 20. Higher. I always you know, You know what I'm saying? 23 24 right. It's not going in. And then the following year when we're you know, we're on top of the NFL mountain because we've had to Sean now for two years. We're drafting 29th. Because we got to the NFC four. Why not? 1/4 1 mind at 1/4? Who cares? Well, there's there is a limit to begin with..

"Can't help but wonder if we watch Drew Brees walk off this football field. Is this the final time that we're gonna watch? You do this, and if it is, that's the end of an era. That's an end of one of the greatest stretches of offensive football that the NFL has ever seen. WWL in New Orleans After the game, Bree's saying Hill take some time and reflect back on the season figure things out. Moving forward If we have seen his final game, ESPN analyst Jeff Saturday one of the greatest of all time unless I had the opportunity to work with him, and with the players association and just the relationship I have with him off the field. He is just a tremendous human being what he's done for the New Orleans Saints coming over to that organization after he left the Chargers what he did. It's so much more than just all his numbers on the field, and those were special. And listen for a guy who He took a Super Bowl from me for me to still have that much respect for him as a player, and as a man, man. I just I appreciate so much what he did Listen, you know when you when you could just, you know, there's five guys. You don't know me when you could just name those five and they're always on the forefront of your mind. You know all the things he's overcome. He's just had an incredible career. Honestly, I hope he doesn't retire. But if he does, man, I mean, listen. He's left it all out. There There is no there is no regret and what that man has done on the football field. You have Saturday Pro Bowl Center for the Peyton Manning led Colts, who lost Super Bowl 44 to Drew Brees and the Saints in Miami. More NFL coaching moves this weekend Lions are expected to bring in Saint's assistant Dan Campbell is their next head coach in L. A Chargers agreeing to terms with Brandon Staley, who Doesn't have to travel far. He was the Rams defensive coordinator this past season earlier on ESPN radio are Kirk Morrison from ESPN L, a part of the Rams broadcast team. I think I like the fit in terms of the energy in a culture I think that he'll bring. This is what the NFL hiring circle is every single years. You want to bring a guy Who's part of a culture that can come in and shape up what your team has really been about. And if you think about the Chargers They've been a team that can't win the close game, right? How many close losses we've seen from the charges over the years whether it was Philip Rivers, or even last year with Justin Herbert, you bring in Brandon Staley. Now he's a guy who was attention to detail. The number one ranked defense in the National Football League, and I think one of his biggest strength is Not only will I said his attention to detail but his adjustments he made adjustments every single week and you saw it not having Aaron Donald last told me yesterday. It didn't work. But, yeah, this was a team that was replacing. Keep to leave. Marcus Peters, Clay Matthews, bruv Corey Little 10, Dante Fowler, Eric Weddle, who retired like that was the defense in 2019 for the Rams. He replaced that, and he filled the shoes of Wade Phillips sold. I think he goes across the hall to the Chargers. Now for me. I think this is big news for Buffalo Bills fans. Okay, because it was once said that Brian David, who was the who is the offensive coordinator of the Buffalo Bills. Was going to be the front runner in Los Angeles to be that head coach That no longer is the case. So if you're a bills fan right now, you may feel like you have one twice this weekend. You you're going to a F C championship game, but you're also keeping the offensive coordinator. That has brought your quarterback Josh Allen Toe M V P talks. Brandon's daily First year coordinator had had the Rams defense ranked number one in efficiency yards allowed per game and points allowed per game. He replaces Anthony Linnet was fired after four seasons and a record Overall of 33 31. As for the Rams coach Sean McVeigh, saying Will be evaluating everything, including the quarterback. After Saturday's lost to the Packers, McVeigh had been asked about Jared Goff. They did a nice job, bill. I thought he improved on last week. You know, I think you really saw a guy that stepped in and he did what he could. I thought he made some plays. Thought he saw the field well, like I was mentioning, but No, we, uh you know, he did a good job today. He's your quarter is your quarterback. He's a quarterback, right? Sean McVeigh saying Yeah, he's our quarterback right now. That was Saturday Sunday, McVeigh saying. Everything is being evaluated SportsCenter all night, ESPN radio. I think this.

"Hey, he's with us all evening long, help it out. He's been a lot of fun, and we have some breaking news in the NFL that Kirk INGE shine some light on or at least provide some Depth of knowledge to because the L A Chargers have hired their new head coach. It'll be L. A Rams defensive coordinator Brandon Staley, just one year as a coordinator under Sean McVeigh and Brandon Staley moving, I guess across the hall itself. I stadium to the other locker room. There will be the head coach of Justin Herbert and the Chargers. They have to have some pieces on defense. Derwin James. Joey Bosa. But Kirk, I imagine you've got to see a lot of Brandon Staley and his scheme up close and personal covering Rams games this year. What kind of head coach is going to the Chargers? Do you like the fit there with Justin Herbert? Well, I think I like the fit in terms of the energy in a culture. I think that he'll bring this is what the NFL hiring circle is every single years. You want to bring a guy who's part of a culture that can come in and shape up. What your team has really been about. You you're going to a F C championship game, but you're also Keeping the offensive coordinator that has brought your quarterback Josh Allen Toe M V P talks. Mm hmm. Table has been awesome with John. I mean, literally with no Zach Moss yesterday didn't even try and pretend like he's going to run the football. Just let Josh on air that bad boy out So Brandon Staley, one year under Sean nickname. As his defensive coordinator. He now gets a head coaching job. Sean McVeigh, who's just 34 years younger than me, for crying out loud, So sorry, Mom. I haven't accomplished as much as Mrs McVeigh can tell her friends that Shawn has accomplished in his life compared to May. Sorry, mom, but you have three head coaches now around the league on his tree. He's got branded Staley in L. A He's got Matt. Met with floor the coach that just beat him this we're under the Packers, who's actually older than Shah McVeigh. But the floor was on McVeigh's first staff when he got hired from Washington and then went to Tennessee and got the job with the Green Bay Packers. And in there, Zach Taylor, who is the head coach, and Cincinnati who's now got Joe Burrow as the QB there to try and turn things around and the natty so we've made jokes about it frequently, but it's like Just have a lunch date with Shawn McVeigh and you are in line to be a head coach somewhere in the National Football League sum this OK, so wait, Wait. I got some more breaking news. Real quick Monica before you jump in, According to Adam Schefter and the coaching carousel, the Detroit Lions are expected to hire Saint's assistant coach Dan Campbell. Former tight end in the league who had an interim gig with the Miami Dolphins. A few years back has been on Sean Payton staff. It looks like the Lions now, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. They are geared to sign Dan Campbell up as the new head coach, replacing Matt Patricia. So there is the latest on the coaching carousel around the NFL is more teams are being eliminated. Coaching vacancies are being filled. Brandon's daily by the Chargers. It's expected according to Schefter, that Dan Campbell is going to the Saints now, so I cut you off there, Monica but just wanted to keep the listeners previous to what was going on around the National Football League. No know where he is. And I think you know this part, please. Right into my one comment. Now. Campbell been in league since 2010 with the Dolphins, You know a little bit more seasoning. This is my one ass trick, Kirk. And you could tell me if I'm totally tripping. 2020 included lots of difficult conversations about who gets hired. Who gets opportunities. Why women who write um I think while it is something that certainly is jaw dropping positively that matter, the floor not metaphor, Chamakh they under the age of 36, however, holding day is has a coaching tree of three guys that looked just like him, and I sort of young shots in the correct, um I don't know, writing still, and I'm not gonna act like I have followed his career, but the idea that a one year defensive coordinator Jumps to a head coaching job to me. He may very well have earned it. But in a year where we're having all these conversations about sincerely looking at our pipeline and how folks are qualified That hired to me feels very copy cat. I'm not saying that the charges were going to get aired the enemy and and so far to my knowledge, Roberts, Allah is the only head coach of color that has been recorded Some of these openings I'm not knocking Staley, but I'm not gonna lie. That's where my mind went like. Who is this guy? And oh, he's from the McVeigh trio. So we're still doing the copy, Captain. Yeah, everything. It's a copycat league, though, right? Yeah. That's what owners do, Um, in the National Football League. When all these owners come together, they look at each other and they say, Wow, what's working for him? I want that that culture that you have going on. I want them. How do you get that? So last year, the coaching cycle was bringing you know. College coaches back, right, Matt rule to Carolina that worked out. So what happened? You get urban Meyer. How can you look at the Urban Meyer higher down in Jacksonville? You're like Wow. Okay, I get it. You know, Here's a guy who's done a great job in the college ranks. You want to bring him up? Over the charges are had a minority hire last year and the land so you know they're going from Anthony Lamb. But then they also trust me, and I think because I'm here in that market right now in Los Angeles. It's hard for the charges to look across and say Wow, Like the Rams are taken all of the you know the shine in Los Angeles. We want some of that. How do you get that shine? Will you take away something that helps them win? You take away their defensive coordinator. And it's unfortunate because I think when you look at these two hires, whether it's Brandon's daily or Dan Campbell They're able to announce their hires because those guys were available. They're available because their teams lost Eric beginning me again because his team keeps winning. 10. These coaches wait, and this is what behind the scenes really quickly. Can you assemble a staff when you still have to wait until your team is now eliminated? Which we know for the Chiefs may not be until the millet second week of February. Can you wait as a coaching staff orders the organization For Eric, the enemy. "Rich. I think the health questions. I'm gonna start you there with these guys, and you can hopefully help my listeners get an idea of the percentage of these guys where the rat healthwise going into this game. We'll start with the quarterback Jared Goff, What can you tell us about his thumb injury right now? Yeah, He was obviously be able to come in last week. Like you said John Woolford had to go out. Jericho came in early in the in the first quarter. It didn't look good if if anybody saw it on TV, and it looked like a size and the color that your thumb is not supposed to be, But there's nothing structurally holding them back. It's just more of a comfort level, and he has now had Basically another full week to have that recover. So the ball looked a little wobbly coming out of his hands at times last week, but nothing that was really dramatic, so so I would expect with another week. He's doing pretty good with that thing. I'm sure he's going to wear a glove today, so that will help with the grip. I'm sure if necessary, they'll give him a little injection toe help with the with the pain and he'll probably be good to go. Which do you think there's any long term damage? From the quarterback decision last week. Nick. They picking Woolford over him. I heard's got tired, golfs postgame comments. He didn't exactly say no, I back coach's decision. 100%. No, he did not. And I I could try to give you a 20 minute answer on this. But, yeah, I think it's something interesting to watch because the interesting thing to me was that the decision was made last week early in the week. On announced to the team and they didn't really even wait and see how Jared cops thumb was going to progress during the week, which is what I expected to happen. They would get Thursday or Friday and say OK, we think he can start. No, we don't think you can start they made that decision. Well before they needed to which to me was the most interesting thing. And Jared got even coming out saying, like You indicated he was basically lobbying to get that start. When the winch on it. They came to him. So Yeah, There's a certain amount of just competitiveness. I mean, Jared Goff is never going to want to hear No in that scenario s O that That certainly is part of it. The interesting part to me like I said, is that the timing of the decision So, Yeah, I think it will continue to be a story line. I'm not trying to, you know, stir up anything, but but I I think it was very interesting, but we're just reading the situation. We're not trying to be rumormongers or hot. Take artists. We're just taking it for what it is. And you're right there. Everything about The decision, I think, adds palace intrigue to what what happens at quarterback for the Rams after this year. How about Cooper Cup? I see, Peter Schrager said. He's not going to play or it's unlikely he's gonna play. Rich. Can you add to that report, Okay, even active. He tried to give it a go. There was actually footage of him. Social media, you know, getting on the plane, and he had a bad limp, even trying to get on the plane just walking around, So they brought him out there to Green Bay. Hoping maybe, you know, you never know. Guy gets the adrenaline going. Maybe you gets out there for warm ups, and he's better. But I don't think you want to put a guy out there diminished with a knee injury playing in the cold, that sort of thing. I think it was always kind of. Ah, little bit of a long shot. Okay, wanted to see whether he could go Rich Hammond. Great Rams. Insider from the athletic is our guest here on the Pony Express, CBS sports radio rich with the two things we've talked about so far, the quarterback being less than 100%. The Star Wide receiver out. If the Packers say we're going to make sure that we have numbers in the box numbers up front, we don't want Cam acres to beat us today. Can the ram. Still, even with the numbers game in the Packers lining up to stop the run? Do you have confidence, having watched the Rams the last few weeks that they can still find success running the ball today? I think they can that that line's been been increasingly solid this year, especially in the run game that the problems that they have offended kind of untaxed pass protection at times, But When when the Rams have committed to the run that that line has been a pretty good done a pretty good job of opening up some holes, and now we're seeing Cam makers established himself. That run game was all over the place this season. They had three guys they were trying to rotate. Can makers was hurt for a while. Gerald Henderson got some time. So now they've kind of settled in. I don't think it will be easy. Don't don't misunderstand, but I think with the guys that they have with Andrew Whitworth coming back now in his second game after coming back from a knee injury, there's a pretty strong in the middle with Austin Flight Center. They can and but but they're also going to need to have some balance and they're going to need your golf and not turn the ball over, so I think they absolutely need to be able to run the ball. On then they have to be able to throw it there without turning it over. I don't even know wretch who's going to start at left tackle for the Packers because their star stud left tackles out within the guy that they signed? Came down with covert 19, or at least was exposed to it is out for this game. So from that perspective, that's enough. That's a matchup you think the Rams want to exploit. Does that mean that Leonard Floyd's gonna line up over that left left tackle just about every snap rich? Potential. Yeah, that's interesting to me to the way that they liked us have done it, And it's very effective is have Leonard Floyd outside of Aaron Donald, no matter where before are lined up, because as we know Darren Donald takes up two, sometimes three Protectors, so it certainly has opened some things up for for Leonard Floyd, but I think I think they'll poke around on that early on and see maybe a B test that left tackle a little bit and see if that's an area they can exploit, but that they also like that that combination on the other side where where Aaron and Leonard have just teamed up a lot of like Like Aaron and Dante Fowler did last year. Very similar dynamic and not they have a lot of success s. Oh, yeah, I think they'll poke around and see how effective they can be. But they really like that combo. Rich before he let you run. And thanks for giving us so much time. Do you think that Jalen Ramsey travels? He almost never does. But do you think Because of the importance of this game to do or die nature of it, they changed their defense to allow him to stick with Davante Adams today. Yeah, I think so. They've tried to do that a little bit with the K Met cap and Seattle was actually trying to scheme away from jail. And Ramsey a little bit s. Oh, that's a very interesting matchup. I think they do. But they also have a lot of confidence real quick, just in those two other guys. No Darius Williams and Troy Hill. Rams cornerback Guys have returned interceptions for touchdowns in the last couple weeks, so I know that a lot of the attention is on Jalen Ramsey. But I don't think it's necessary unnecessarily that you can't That you can throw the ball on the other two and the other two guys, too, So it's gonna be a great matchup all the way around the Rams. I think they might need to turn over to you to win this game, so we'll see how it goes. And you think the weather is a factor? The cold weather thing that people like to bring up that narrative. You think that's relevant to golf? Or you think that's just Silly. You know, it has been. It's not. It's also I've got eyes haven't seen really anybody point out. It's not all that warmer than what? It wasn't Seattle Last week, they temperature was 39 degrees in Seattle. I think it's gonna be about 35. Today in Green Bay. Yeah, You're not going to get the snow or the leader of the hail or anything like if you have that. That's a little bit of a problem, but, yeah, Historically, that's the point is is accurate. Historically, Jared has not been as effective in those cold weather games. So yeah, that that would be.

"Cuts from the show and put them into the podcast. But I can already tell you that the conversation I am about to have will end up on the podcast because this guy does a great job covering not just the Rams, but all football that occurs inside the city limits. Of Los Angeles. And sometimes outside the city limits. Ryan die route of the L. A football network joins me right now, Ryan, Great to have you on. How are you? Right. I'm great. Thanks again for having me It's always a blast chatting with you. So I appreciate it. Thanks for the good shadow and excited talking today. Yeah, And and And I'm at the risk of bearing the lead here I do. I do want to ask you a chargers thing. Just, you know, a F C West and all of that. How interested? Do you think the charges were in urban Meyer? You know, there was definitely some intrigue there some interest. I know urban. It's been reported on how much control he wanted. I don't think the Chargers ever wanted to give him that. It may have been almost as a bargaining kind of leverage. Ship to push. You know the JAG wires Price seven or whatnot. So, but I think there was definitely some intrigues and interest there. I just don't think it ever really went too. Chance of it ever happening if that makes sense. Yeah, I know. It does make sense of my initial thought was it was leverage. And maybe the charges were willing to play along a little bit to drive up the price of Jacksonville. Who knows, But he ends up in Jacksonville. So Who do you think right now is the front runner for that job in L. A Well, the top two candidates are Briand able O. C for the Bills, and Brandon Staley, defensive coordinator for the Rams, so obviously we'll fight talk about here in a minute. So I think those other top two candidates honest, they're both in the playoffs. That's why why it's been real quiet. Out on the Western front if I can use that fun, but I think that you get two guys that are very different ones. Obviously the offensive line and table that would come in, hopefully continue to groom just in urban and the other brands. Daly, who's just a phenomenal mind, his players love them. He's a leader. He's moved up the ranks very, very quickly. He also played quarterback in college, so it does have some knowledge about the positions you would be completely lost on that He's in L A doesn't have to move is not to his family. There's a lot of drawings for both guys. But I think those their top two and you still have a guy like Eric, the enemy who obviously was a hot name throughout the season. I know he's not as big within actual NFL circles, but he's still a candidate as well. I would say. And I was just going to ask you if Kansas City meets Buffalo in the F C championship in the chief's win. Does Eric Be enemy jump over Brian table for the top spot if they're going to go offense? Yeah, I would almost think could be the office and I think she's Luke. I think if the Chiefs lose, he would maybe have a better shot just because they could get him into building quicker. They could get him in for a second interview and stuff like that. I think they value Able above banning me just cause tables, the architect of that entire offense where the enemy is just kind of running Andy Reid scheme and we don't know how involved he really is And you know, obviously called the place and how involved he is and systematically and developing players where table has a footprint on the entire Buffalo offense. All right. So with that being said, let's talk about the rants because they are the team that is still playing right now. And I don't know if you get the sense because I mean you're out there. So of course, the Rams are a big story, probably not bigger than LeBron. But LeBron is the biggest story everywhere. All the time, but I'm curious as you frequent other shows, you know, you go on other shows across the country and you listened other shows and stuff. It kind of feels to me. Like this is the other game of the weekend because you got Brady versus breeze. You got the defending champs against the Cinderella story with Cleveland, Kansas City on Ben. You even got the sexiness of Lamar versus Josh Allen. But it's like this is the number one offense against the number one defense. Does it feel like Packers Ramses not being talked about as much as some of the any one of the other three games? Yeah, I definitely feel like that. I'd say even now. L a. It kind of feels like that. The Rams all season has been kind of. Ah, you know, they've been gamed is like a good team. Obviously, we know about the defense but even still played in prime time. They come out. They beat the Buccaneers, and the storyline was, you know, Tom pretty doesn't play. Well, it wasn't allowed. That ran defense is when shit and shut him down. That's kind of been there there storyline all years. You don't want to call them. That's really true, You know, Underdog. Obviously, they will be this week. But it's not really got a lot of credit throughout the year and even an unknown division. It's always been about Seattle and rust. And a lot of that falls on. It's just the way the world works and how the NFL twelves on quarterback plan. Obviously, Jared Goff has had his struggles. Throughout the season and getting all the back to last year. He's now doing with this thumb injury, You know, they trotted out John Wall for to start the playoffs, too, is a kind of a back up, but no one knew anything about before this game, So I think that has more to do with it. Just the fact that Kind of Ah, a struggling QB situation where all the other story lines you have the greatness that you mention it. Brady and Brees, You have the up and comers and Josh Alan and Lamar Jackson and the homes and all this and you have the Rams. They're just a dominant defense that are gonna be a rough first offense this week. So it's not really the sexy pick, but I think though I think they're gonna surprise you this weekend. Well and look the number one defense and I think some people even know Vic Fangio does a fine job coordinating the Broncos defense, which he does, even though he's also the The head coach. You got look at someone like Brandon Staley. And if your Broncos fan and lament a little bit that he is in l A, But look, you got a chance to go from outside linebackers coach to a defensive coordinator. You don't fault anybody. For that move. You know the Rams lose weight Phillips a couple of years ago, and now they get Brandon Staley. Yes, you have Aaron Donald. But how much credit does Staley deserve for how the Rams defense has been playing Would give him like 95% of the credit Ryan. He's done a phenomenal job. He came in this season with very similar roster to what the ranch at last year underweight films where they were middle of the pack. They had Deanna Randy last year they had under they traded midway through, but they had branches into the season. They've obviously had Aaron Donald, and then they end up losing guys. They were great contribute last year in Korea, Little 10 in Dante Fowler, and they kind of bring in lesser known guys. Leonard Floyd. They brought him from Chicago who was obviously a first round pick but had a very middling career in Chicago. And Branson has turned a lot of these guys in the superstars Troy Hill. There is Williams, who were kind of no name guys at the defensive back position. They played phenomenal alongside Jalen Randy. So his schemes, his concepts, which you take a lot from the Fangio. So any Broncos fans watching this Rams game they're gonna see a lot of similarities in this Rams defense. He's putting his position his players and positions to win. He's built a really good defensive coaching staff as well. And so I get him tons of credit. I think it's totally Do Indian, his head coaching interviews, even though he's just a one year coordinator But because of what he failed to do in such a short time, I think speaks volumes on him as a coach and as a leader..

NFL 2019 trade deadline: buyers and sellers that could look to strike in-season deals

"So today was a bevy of traits all all sorts of craziness happening Sheila Ramsey being shipped from the rams sorry for the jags to the rams for two first of forced workers peers to ship the rams all the way over to Baltimore brother moves I'd like to talk about like how how old this ins up working out for teams around this time right you get into a position where maybe you're a buyer maybe your seller what do you think goes through the minds of of teams that are only six games into the season at this point yeah you know it's hard because the trade deadline is so early in the season and the way that it's all like baseball where it's you know the end of July and you know if you're in it or not so it's difficult but what's interesting to me is is over the past few years you know it wasn't that long ago there were rarely NFL trades and now all of a sudden you're seeing a lot more activity in a couple of weeks before the trade trade deadline at that so it's fascinating is sort of the changes but you know you look at the standings and there are what a couple of teams the dolphins the red you know who can legitimate Cincinnati can legitimately say they're not going to make the playoffs right everybody else is still in the mix and and that's what makes it so hard in some of these obviously were person you know personnel issues more so the horse and and talent but we feel like the Broncos I mean for example they went they if they somehow be the chiefs there only one game out of the AFC west to relieve me of sweat that that's how close it I just I find interesting bed that it's if you have to you making this decision at this point to either be a buyer or seller and he said there's only a couple teams a real legitimately say that well yeah we're we're not in position to win right now yeah yeah I do know I just found it interesting look at the rams at this Sean McVay said you know all the three and thirteen twenty six Jaguars at four sixteen Jack or some people get three players from them that's what's gonna put us over the top here ready to go get Blake Bortles Dante Fowler Jaylen Ramsey what I really put this thing over the topic pages that one man's trash is another man's treasure yes well but I I I think it's deeper than that it's the when you look at a team like the rams they trade away Marcus Peters but then they trade for Jaylen Ramsey clearly they didn't have a need at corner thanks what they had a need to do was to move one guy and bring a new guy and so that's why you know it's personality stuff it goes back yeah I want to bring up Antonio brown again but it's it's it goes back to was a guy fitting it is a guy causing trouble and obviously Jaylen Ramsey everybody knows what was going on in Jacksonville right in computers computers was a kind of the consummate teammate in LA but he did have some issues with some coaches there as well that's part of the reason you get the whole circular movement there with all that kind of stuff you saw a lot of outpouring of support from teammates for Marcus Peters when he was dealt then we see that with the jailer Remzi on that bill team chemistry I mean you've been a lot a locker rooms and like like I think we talk about that thing is like it's it's a big it's a big deal because deal but then there's like the other other segment that says I mean personality is one thing but performance is another Jill Ramsey's could still consider were the best quarterbacks in the league that's gonna put up some of that he probably is the best I any any is what twenty four years old I think I mean he's so big pick up for the rams the question is how do you fit in and I I think it's it's a mix I mean you look back at teams that have been had tremendously talented rosters that maybe there was some issue in the in the in the in the you know whether it's with the chemistry or in the locker room or somehow between coaches and players and that can that can dive bomber team at the same time in do need talent but these guys as you know spend every day together for months and months and months and it's important that they get along so if if one guy is is causing issues I think it probably makes

NFL Rumors Mailbag: Kyler Murray, Justin Houston Trade

"Yeah. What this is shocking to me in the sense that when we were having this discussion about quarterback musical chairs in the fall. My thought had always been the Jags are going to draft a quarterback. And it still seems to me like the more prudent direction here is for them to move up for Golic Hoskins or Murray rather than giving Nick foles twenty million dollars a year when you're already over the cap, it just I just don't understand what if the answer is both. And what I mean by this is that Dave Gettleman came out and said the sin. I think this has the opportunity to be very dumb trend around the league. But did other came out and said, we'll work was the Kansas City mom's it's stupid way to think about which is adding a veteran die on a legitimate contract. And then the guy learning behind him. Now, I don't think that them bring in foles precludes them from taking quarterback in the first two rounds. I don't know if they bring in foles, obviously at a number like twenty they're not gonna trade up into the top five, but they could still draft a a significant future starter quarterback type guy. Now, I think is a couple of things we need to to sort of peel back on with the Kansas City model first of all not everybody's gonna be Patrick Mahomes. Second of all the infrastructure in Kansas City was so remarkably good perfect. They basically structure had Nagy and and read working with Smith and they assigned Mike kaffa to Patrick Mahomes. And so you. Had not only Mahomes working with Alex Smith every day working with read in in meetings. But also anytime he needed something explained to him. He basically had the quarterbacks coach at his disposal. The infrastructure and other places is not going to be like that. There aren't three really smart or four because out include Eric b enemy in that. There are not four really smart innovators in thirty one of the other teams in this league. So if you're going to try the Kansas City, Molly better have Kansas City coaches, and you'd better have talent like Patrick Mahomes need better have a leader like Alex Smith. I just think that was a unicorn if you want to replicate a good luck. It does not make sense to me to allocate your resources in that way. If you're going to sign Nick foles, the idea of drafting a quarterback in the first two rounds, you are team that is built to win at this very moment. That's why you're signing foles using a high level draft pick on a quarterback while also burning twenty million bucks on your starter that I I have no idea. Why teams think that's a good? It's the same thing. The cardinals last year paying Sam Bradford what they did. Wall dressing. Josh Rosen like just put him in just put him in. I it's Mahomes is such a different case in that team was on such a different part of where they wanted to go in their schedule. The Jacksonville Jaguars are there. But why would you tr what would you also draft the guy? I just don't understand that at all. I don't know teams plan specifically. But there are a lot of teams don't know what they're doing. No. There are a lot of towns lie they're doing I don't know if anybody's looked into the last the NFL's celebrating one hundred years and one of the Constance is like my field of dreams speech. The only constant is a lot of teams and have no idea what they're doing my favorite part about. This is gonna be what happens with the offensive line market the players in the pass rushing market or good enough that even with those top four guys off giving Dante Fowler big deal or Trey flowers Iansa. There are players I like in that group more than others. But I'm still okay. With a guy like trae flowers. Getting paid. But it's going to be amazing when the guy Daryl Williams is off the board and then Roger Sappho than teams like, well, we're the Donovan Smith winners five years sixty million.
