"Didn't pan out. So you were fortunate that you had a second year of Tyler Ulis. Help get you through the fact that scowl didn't pan out, right? Khalil Whitney didn't pan out. You had a second year. Have a manual quickly and a second year of action, Hagen's and a second year of EJ Montgomery and a third year of Nick Richards, to help make up for the fact that Kalu Whitney really didn't pan out. The problem is if we keep running all these dudes off Then we have no backup for when they don't pan out. So look at this year we had one returning player won Kim Brooks and he was out half the year with an injury. So when Boston wasn't is good. And Clark wasn't is good. You didn't have quickly. Hagen's except her and you could have that could have been Jamal Baker. That could have been Johnny Juicing, and they're gone. It could have been EJ Montgomery could've been Ashton Hagan's And that is the frustrating part. Sometimes these five stars they're not gonna pan out more often than not, they do. Sometimes they won't and when you run off the other guys Then that's what hurts, and I think that's what he's in. So the question for next year is, I think Damian Collins will be really good. I think Scott Clarke will be really good. But if one of them's not is good, then what we need some of these other dudes to return and be good. For those of you that may not have heard UK Athletics director Mitch Barnhart, who is the chair of the Division One basketball committee this year, has also been named as one of five new members. The college football playoff committee s so he will be deeply involved in that as well. And that just kind of shows you the kind of yank that UK yields in the world of college athletics. It's doing a great job and for him to be put in some of the positions he's been put in. I think that speaks for itself. No question. Bob and James down. You're next up. Hello, Bob. Well, you saved my guest. We're going out there. This Alabama team Now we saw some flashes his own in this last Ellis, you game, goose. You think we're gonna coach is gonna go down and try to mix up his game plan. It kept catches Alabama team off guard because I mean I used to not playing the zone and looking at that sort of a previous came it Rupp, so hopefully we're going in there and mix it up with him what he said. Well, I think we were there zone was a little bit effective in that game. Of course, we got down so quickly. Um, it's hard to hard to stop a team when they going downhill like that, and Uh, Alabama just made shots. But you might seem or that zone defense. I'm hoping we can be who we are, and that is Ineffective. Mand Mand defensive team. Yeah, you'd like to Sprinkle some zone and But Alabama has faced still hot zones. So you know, I I kind of like to see that. But, um, we just have to figure out a way to get this done, Jack as we continue to look at a lot of different things, and a lot of people have certainly focused on the way that BJ Boston is played most of the year and then the last couple of games. It just seems like every time out. It's just getting more and more comfortable for him, and I love how coach cow has has kind of handled him. Once again, you you, you as as a high school player, and as an au player, you play you try to make the hard play look easy. On this level. Uh, you have to figure out a way. Understand that simple, straight aggressive basketball right is the way to be most effective, and I think he is finally getting that when he's going into the paint now. He is going to try to dunk the ball. He's not trying to dress it up and get everybody saying who and, Ah, you know he's trying to get it done. He's making shots. He's taken the dribble and shooting the 15 ft jump start shot instead of taking it into the big, so he's doing a lot of things. Well, he's always played pretty decent defense, and now his defense has gotten better. So I'm really, really pleased with his game right now and what it's also done. That hopefully people are seeing is the fact that it has opened things up for everybody else. Well, and you bring that up. And that is a good one. Because you're you're wondering why Dante Allen is not getting more shots, right? Um one thing that has to happen for, uh Shooters to be open on the other side of floor When the ball rotates back around is you have to be getting something done with the other guys. There've been times when no one else is is getting anything done so the defense can focus. But now you have a Boston plan. I just love the stat sheets for a lot of guys and that l s u game. Jackson was effective. You go up and down the list. And you see really nice lines for everybody. So you spread it out that way, and I'm hoping we can continue to get a little balance. And give guys like Boston and Alan opportunity, more opportunities to get shots and and and that's that's gonna be the whole key and getting everybody comfortable in one final thing. It just seems like the next guy. That Cal and everybody is really obviously focused on everybody, but in particular If they can get ask you to find that comfort level and he was there for a while. Yeah, For some reason, he's kind of lost a little bit of that confidence he he had, and, um, you know, there's a reason why It's very difficult for Dante Allen to get an open shot and you look at the ass cues line and he's all for five from from the three point line. Everybody's gonna be on Dante. There's a reason they want him taking that shot. So what he has to do now is Yeah, I'm open from the three But can I figure out a way to get a little bit better shot a little bit higher percentage shot? I still think all of that kind of stuff starts on the fast break that no question. I mean, you have to get the ball out and run and I can get a lot of confidence from giving a pass to a guy that leads to an easy basket. That's a confidence builder for me, even though I don't get the two point so all of that kind of works together, But I'd love to see some more easy baskets, Transition basket. I would love to just see him just one time. Just run over somebody, or if you don't run over, somebody just dribble it all the way out of the tunnel. You don't pick up your drivel. Just just go until some force of nature stops you and it Maybe he maybe when somebody reaches in or something he sees that he's strong enough, even though he's young. The battle through that well and you gotta learn that I'm writing. He's young and he's used to being quicker and he's used to being stronger than everybody else. Now he's not so he's figured it out. I mean, he's going to figure it out and get that confidence back that we saw for stretch there where he was playing well, absolute..

Went back and tried to see who lost their man. It's actually not clear could be sorr. Maybe could have been Brooks hard detail, so I can't really pinpoint on but somebody lost their man. I didn't really feel that way. No offense to Devin. But I would have felt a lot better with men shooting that or even Dante Allen. But we get ask you he misses Terrible Miss you make those two free throws. I think we probably win the game, but he misses it. And come down the floor play defense. Actually play pretty good defense. You end up with B. J. Boston guarding the ball handler, which isn't a bad matchup, he comes down. Good rotation by Jackson. And if he just either catches it or just taps it to a Smith, who standing right there game over And steady spikes it out of bounds. Not Thinking about court awareness. And I'm not even ready to have that conversation. We're not gonna win it now. You know, I guess you could get better and be competitive. But we're not gonna win now. So the rest of regular season and by the way, we're only halfway through. We've played 13 games, folks, There's still 13 more. But the only way Kentucky is gonna win. This season. Is to win the tournament. So the next 13 games really are practice for the SEC tournament if we're being honest Practice for the SEC tournament. And you can tell us what you're thinking. Do you move Dante Allen into the starting lineup off that performance? You know, I'm not. I'm not sure you're let Let's talk that story. Um Dante's been really in the last 23. Weeks has taken everything up a notch. It's been great to see. The scrimmage we had. I think he was one for three or four in the first half. And everybody on the team and me shoot the ball, man. Shoot the ball. The second half. He went five. Seven. You want 5%? Almost clockwork of what happened in this game. That's why I said Brian Lane, who's a good friend manufactures his father. Dawn is like Coach Lane is like a mentor on trans e They helped us because it kind of changed the mentality. Here's the other thing that everyone in Kentucky should be proud of. The night before the game. We do film. And after everybody filtered out of the room. Don't take grab the coach and said, Can we stay? I want to go over this to make sure Because he knew if I defend And I know where I'm supposed to be. I can stay in the game because coaches said it to me. 10,000 times. So what happened is they stayed an hour. You know? That was the best defensive effort he's made in practice or a game. He was there, He blocked the shot. He was great in transition defense, he rebounded. Made really easy place had no turnovers. I mean, it is exciting, but how about He's building his own confidence. He's building, knowing what he did was not as much for Dante. It was for the team. I'm not letting these guys down. If coach is going to give me minutes and tell me to shoot it every time I'm going to do my job on defense any did So you know whether he starts you're not. I told everybody we all know. He's getting minutes. And that means some other guys will get less minutes. That's how this works. And if you're the guy behind somebody, you're gonna get less minutes. Um, you know, we did a story. They talked about Michael molder out there and I told them a couple days before this past game. I said Dante Allen is getting his chance. This is before the game and that cannot wait to see and I hope he explodes. Um, because I knew if he did, it would help us win a game and we needed to win. We needed the confidence builder. We needed to be in a dog fight and knew we had a competitive spirit to win a game. But I am so proud of him and happy for him on by know Kentucky's exploding Forum on now, I would tell you You know, Like I said to him, you don't have to make seven threes. Every game. I'd like you to make about three, though, and the biggest thing for all of us. Any time he shoots it, Tom, What are we all thinking? Going in? Yes. Yes, And so does the other team. And that's why for our team and how he plays and what he does has so much value and it took some time. How about this one? What did you know? From day one coach. Really? How about I didn't know from day one about Shay Alexander. It took 10 games, not eight. It took 10 games on guy can go on. How about last year with the manual quickly? Why don't you know from day one because you got new teams, and it takes time. But Like I'm watching, too, But I also see them in practice. So I have a little different vantage point. But I tell every kid you're going to have your chance. Take advantage. Be ready and it's not always gonna be on your timetable. Sometimes one guy's miseries and other guys opportunity, and that's what happened in this case. But let me say this. Going forward. He keeps doing this stuff. Defensively, He's gonna have a chance to go in there and let balls fly and you notice. In the first half. Like he passed on a couple shots, but we watched. You know what the passes were bad You're throwing the ball above his head. Then we showed him the passes that they threw into a shooting pocket. Even even touch his hands and it gets off quickly. So we worked on that. Oh, yeah, He's and he's unconscious. He could care less. He just I'm making shots so You know, he makes it different and hopefully, like I said, as we go forward now, if you watch that game, how would you play him? Tom be inside his jersey. But it's good then because now it becomes four on four away from him. Which opens up the rest of the court to for everybody. Yeah, I was actually just going there with the next question is, what do you talk to him about now because he's the focal point of Andy scouting report now. The one thing is for he and Davey on. Maybe a couple wrinkles were Weiqing. You know, I'm not a guy that runs plays for threes. I think you run it for the lay up and the it'll create a three somewhere, But, you know, we probably need to put in a couple wrinkles that'll get threes for he and Davion. But I also think doctors could open up the core for Davy allowed to get some more shots. And even you know, Devon So I'm like I said, I'm I said before the game, I told my wife that told the staff. I hope he goes crazy because if he does will win And whether it's why don't you play? It doesn't matter to me. This is about winning. It's about being about these kids. This about figuring out What they need from me to help them be their best. How do they need me to be? Um, you know, so again. You know, I'm doing a lot of individual meetings and letting kids know how much I believe in them and knowing that what they're going through is just not normal, and they it's not fair that And I said this to them this wire respect him so much. They came here to play in front of 24,000 raging fans that carried us over the finish line. I can't tell you How many games Going on the road and knowing it's going to be sold out, and the other team's not used to that. But we are knowing that's an advantage for us knowing that, you know, we're gonna play some games that we get our feet underneath the six or seven games that we know. We're going to get our feet underneath us, and we can learn and get the right frame of mind. They didn't get any of that didn't get to some of the fall, but you know, you look at this and you say Well, let's see what it did. Talking this up. And as long as these kids keep working And building their own confidence through this. We needed that win badly. We just needed to win a game and and I didn't get you know, everybody will say what you got thrown well, most cases when I get tossed it changes. The Light of my team. I don't know why, but it does. There's a different fight and you see it and there's you know, and they do it and they did and they've done it. No, I'm not going to get thrown out. Bunch of.
