He is a member of the 1/100 anniversary all time team A member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, a five time NASCAR Cup series champion, a four time Daytona 500 champion, ah, member of the NASCAR Hall of Fame, and today, he does appear courtesy of Eminem's and treat town. Of course I'm speaking of Joe Gibbs, Joe. It is so good to have you back on the program. How are you? Hey, Jim. Thank you Appreciate that introduction. I didn't know I did all that stuff, Joe. You've had a great great run, and I know you've got some basic here still in front of you. In fact, let me ask you about Denny Hamlin. He won on Sunday at Talladega after three overtimes in a wild race. I'm curious. What kind of thoughts and emotions were you having in the final moments of that raised you? Well, I gotta tell you, you're you're right is three times we kind of at the end of that race. We have tto have a restart, And when you do that in our sport, there's no telling what's gonna happen and A lot did happen, but they have Denny when that race eyes Ah, it's Denny's the you know all time here for him, and of course, what is huge for us. FedEx is his sponsor and has been the entire time Danny's race for us. And for him to win seven times this year is a huge deal. When you're a Talladega like that, and are racing Ah, there is a lot happening there was in that race. And so I think a lot of the fans thought it was great. And certainly for May to have Danny win was a huge deal for us and FedEx. We're talking to Joe Gibbs and then overall Joe. His spot is now in the round of eight that's guaranteed and at the moment, Martin Truex Jr is six in the standings. Kyle Busch is ninth overall. So how are you feeling about where things stand at this point in the play offs? Well, I still think Martin Hey, had a great road hole. That's the next race we go to here in sharp. We're worried obviously with Kyle, and it's a huge deal for us. Kyle won the championship last year, and it's one of those things with all the changes that happen in our sport. Because of Cove it When we go to the racetrack, we don't practice right now. All of those things I think of really been something for that's been hard for us to overcome, particularly with cow And so this will be interesting to see if we can fight through this and get to the next round with him. But right now we're going to have to have a great races are oval. We're talking to Joe Gibbs. He's a member of the NASCAR Hall of Fame. He's appearing courtesy of Eminem's and Tree town. Enjoy. No. You had a chuckle the top when I read down your resume, but the fact of the matter is I know you're not going to make it about you. But almost nobody else has a resume quite like this. Including being in the hall of Fame in two different sports again. I know you're not doing it for personal accolades. But what do those two honors mean to you? Yeah, You know what happens, You know, Jim For May. I just We had a reunion here four years ago. Where all of our Super Bowl guys, we had 90 of them come back. And we had a three day celebration told stories and everything for me. It's about that and the relationships and all the all the experiences. You had the memories. Tough things you go through in football. Football is a physical and your challenge you're challenged every single weekend. It's the best people in the world playing football and They put you through all those things, And when you come out the other side of that you develop some of the greatest relationships. And so that's what I kind of miss about football. You know, it's those late night meetings with the coaches. And you fight to do all the things and trying to come up with the best game plan you can, and I think it's extremely hard. The NFL is hard, but it also, I think is one of the greatest job in the world and has Ah, some of the greatest thrills and the world so that I kind of look back at that. For me. It's mostly relationships. I really appreciate that response, Jo and in a similar vein, you know last year in a conversation with the athletic, you were talking about evaluating talent back in the day with Washington and you said the most important thing was character. And then the second most important thing, or actually, it was intelligence. Then mental toughness and then finally, talent. I'm curious Joe. Why's character so important to you? And why was talent the least important of those attributes? Well, I think you start off. With character, and I think back to those football teams. And you know the thing that there was amazing about that. Jim is when we went back and looked at our our our Super Bowl teams. One half of those teams were free agents. What That meant was this They were either not drafted or have been cut by somebody. And yet when they come on our team character takes over when you have character guys. It's not about the money. It's they want to be the best. Football player for your team. They could be the best Washington football and I looked in the eyes of those guys when I would talk to him and many times. It was emotional before those games. They weren't the the the guys that kind of leisure, Super bowls and everything. It is about the kind of person they are and what they bring to the team. Many times, people ask me. Hey, tell me who's the greatest player you coached? I can't do that. Because some of the greatest players I start out with Otis Wass, the impede crawl and and people like that they go. Sure they were great special teams. Players for us. They were the heart and soul. Of your football team. And that's that's the thing about football. The challenge that you haven't football. It's a physical challenge. You're going to be mentally challenged, and it goes to the coaches in late night and coming up. And are you willing to stay there and come up with the best game plan? And can you make those critical decisions? It's like being in the eye of the hurricane on that sideline people many times. I always laughed at the second guest. Sometimes about some of the college money think about this year all the sideline. The field is crowned. You're looking out there. It's hard to see you got guys around you. That that are yelling. Four letter words people and you've got to make a decision there. You tried while as said ties. I laugh about that, because, but it is one of the greatest thrills in life..

"Shock on the race car anything that's going to alleviate the problem not Denny Hamlin was having a tough break there for Denny Hamlin there is yet to come down the pit lane before the drop of the green flag he is a half a track behind everybody else and he's not going to go full throttle to catch up with the field because that will wear those tires out that quickly that's how important it is to not do that is the field gets set to come back to the start finish line to get the one to go signal this time by so interesting you'll have true acts back there his teammate Denny Hamlin back there that'll be worth the price of admission just to watch those to come to the front Danny winning the Daytona five hundred Truax winning here Jeff two years ago in dominating fashion what about the front row with Clint Boyer who obviously has a very good car we saw that right from the beginning in fact you'll cross over now from the bottom of the race track to the top side electing to start this race from outside role one and Jimmy Johnson who also showed a lot of speed it back though Chevrolet Camaros late have shown a lot of speed that new Chevrolet Camaro body has really done wonders for all the Chevrolet teams it's been something very special from the drop of the green flag at Daytona on the Las Vegas and based off of what we saw in practice here Friday afternoon as Alex Bowman out of Hendrick motorsports Chevrolet stables was the fastest not only on single lap speed to practice it was the fastest on the five lap average Alex Bowman also rusty was the fastest on the ten lap average well that's really important when you could be the fastest on average like that we'll see what happens when this restart it see if they can still hold to speak but you know I'm noticing Denny Hamlin he headed to work on that Carney's tailback but guys we were talking appear to be thoroughly he actually missed the driver's introduction and when you do that you pretty well gotta go tail back and nobody said anything about that so I'm just wondering if you knew that was happening until then he had to go to the back of the pack and that was crazy get two sources of information one with a bad transmission S. Kim said they change a right rear shock also so that's a lot of stuff going on the getting hammered right now before this race he needs kind of shake it off and come get back in the game because I mean starting tailback changing a shock been stuck in first gear holy smokes David took the green flag yet and we got a lot of stories to follow up on your exactly right.

"Okay. Well, we'll. Will set up a lab and we'll review your source code. And then we'll we'll verify that compiles and the check sums, and then we'll deploy it into our infrastructure as a means to sort of reduce the risk. And I think that the problems inherent without one of which is logic errors and computer coder extremely hard to pick up on. But the more one the one that stands out a little bit more to me would be what if there was a zero day found zero day for people who don't know is a vulnerability not patched. Right becomes available. That's found in in the code of this infrastructure. So so the the phrase zero day means you have zero days to fix this. It's already right. There's nothing you can really do other than unplug your your system to prevent it. And so they they issue a patch. And does that patch go through this long process of code review? Or does it get deployed right away. And you can quickly see circumstances where you would be forced into playing something even under this regime labs and stuff where you would end up with stuff that you would review it later and point it might be too late. And that's not to say that you know, any nation would do that. It's do you want to be put in a position where you have to think of that. So back to finance. It sounds like you are inspired by by Berkshire Hathaway by by Warren buffet and Charlie Munger. Do you? Do you have a connection to those guys? Have you met those guys or is it just you're just a fan base on reading their stuff's to just a fan. I mean, they're people who've influenced my thinking a lot and the website farnam street is named after the street. No Maha where they have their headquarters and buffet as house, and I think it's just interesting to me when I was doing my MBA, and it was sort of thinking about this. It's you sort of learn. The U. Hi, Daniel, conman on recently, he so you learned these cognitive biases that her cratered explaining why we make mistakes, and you have sort of like oh porter and his five forces theory of business competition, and I found it really interesting that these two guys in Omaha, Nebraska or one's in Pasadena. Charlie muggers in Pasadena, California. But these two guys took that work, and they made it practical and useful and used it to make better decisions in the real world over a wide variety of companies and businesses, and I thought it was really interesting, and that's how I really got interested in them and thinking it was interesting that conversation with Danny at one point. So Dan is for those who aren't aware Dan economist is one of the fathers of what has what has become behavioral economics, but is decision theory. Prospect theory was part of that the work you did with. Amos verse gate for which Danny won the Nobel prize in economics revealed how bad we are at reasoning through various decisions, we have we have sure sticks where we make certain decisions under uncertainty and many of these heuristic are bad ones..

"Oh on the final week is of very interesting week. Not for Craig not for corron who played each other for. Enjoy that matchup guys. But everybody else is in a meaningful matchup. So we're gonna talk about some of it or I'm going to talk about some of it. I'm gonna tell you about it. And I'm gonna tell you the possibilities of what people can do. What seeds they can get and what the fantasy playoffs might look like I'm gonna start with Brandon since he's up top the number one, man. A two-time two time champion himself is in first he is in ES is own future in his hands. If he wins. He gets the first seat. Boom done easy. If he loses he's still in the playoffs. He's one of two people that is guaranteed a playoff spot. He will either second or third if he loses. He plays Terry. Wins. He's not even guaranteed first place. If Dottie wins actually in if Dottie wins in Brandon loses Dadi gets first place. Terry will be second place. But if Dottie loses interior winds in first place for the playoffs. So got a lot to play for if he loses. I believe that just six him in fourth place still in the playoffs. So congratulations to Brandon itary who play charter this week. No matter. What happens you're in the playoffs? You may just have back to back matchups. If Brandon wins. Doddie? Now if Dottie wins she can either be in first or second. So you got a big matchup this week dotty against none other. But yours truly which I think I'm gonna win. So this what does that mean if I went, and you lose that means you still if you lose think about this? You could still come in second place that is fucking crazy. But if you lose you could be anywhere from second place to out of the playoffs. Now sounds kind of ridiculous. But that's the way it could happen. And Danny has something to say about that. Because of a. Oh, the tiebreaker between you and him now. Alan is in fourth place right now playoffs started this week. And you'd be in the place, but you're not and guess what? You'll never listen this wind and talking to you if Allen wins he could he could possibly get he could possibly be second third or fourth depending on what else happens if Alan loses. He's out which brings me to the fifth-place person, which is John because John play that it's a it's basically a play in game if whoever wins that is in whoever loses is out. Whoever wins gets second third or fourth. So yes, John can actually jump into the playoffs all the way up to second place. But he needs dotty and Terry to lose and him to win. Now. This brings us to the six guy who could actually make the buck and play the prime time players, Danny if Danny wins and Danny's plane. None other than what asked pancakes ass. Yeah. We played pancakes asked and. Yeah. So all you have to do is be the guy who hasn't been paying too much tension this year. I don't think although he says he's been listening. So if you're out there pancakes play keep Danny out, but if Danny wins, he still needs a shitload of stuff to happen to get in. He needs Terry Allen to both win actually any needs Dadi to lose. And then Danny will get place. So Danny is rooting for for Terry oil, and and his brother and he's also rooting for me for him to for him to get. If Danny loses simply out. No matter what happens with everybody else. So. That pretty much narrows it down at that tells everybody what they need to do who to root for who to root against and good luck this week everybody except for Craig in in Koran you guys it doesn't matter. You guys. Just bullshit. You guys could both shit the bed. Nobody cares. Oh, I guess let's just play my. French ticks finger in themselves.

There's going to be my baby. I say, what was the baby is born? You don't give a blood test anyway, right? You get DNA tests might as well just fucking staying to DNA tests.
