"This week's show without talking about the big news of the week, which is of course old way Daniel Ricciardo, old most like Weber and ultimatum Oscar Piazza Moscow PS3. It's a Russian version of him. Moscow piastre, delicious Moscow piastre my favorite drink. Oscar piastre. The Russian version of Oscar pierce would be Oscar. Potash. Potash. Yes, the Ural khali sponsored version of Oscar piastre, like a parallel universe. They've made good. They've all apologized to one another. Well, I have it all pod microwave has done the apologizing. Even though Daniel Ricciardo said it wasn't necessary, they're all good friends. He's called Oscar wish him all the best. Oscar's presumably said something similar, but obviously he has not reported what he said. Yeah, he went to Daniel Ricciardo and smiled at him and said, thank you. And that's all that happened. But it's because this is now becoming resolved, is that we have the meeting of the contract recognition board last week, and they made their announcement on Friday, the Oscar piaster is going to McLaren because it turns out Alpine forgot to give him a contract, which seems like a fairly substantial oversight reform with one team. That's just my opinion. And as a result, he will be a McLaren driver next year. At the end of all these rob, now it's been a lot of speculation over the last month about what's going on. What I'll make mark has been doing with these young charges Oscar piastre, and now pain and betrayal and integrity and loyalty. But in the end, it turns out that, well, the contract recognition board lawyers, whatever their names were, they all had great names as well. Go look up. Hope it's in phase as well. Oh boy. I tell you what for the right of their charging. If I see a reimbursement climb of cargo is 90 for a focaccia and a cup of coffee, I'll just say you know what, you can write that one off so you can have that good choice. The climate expenses when you're charging those rights. But then again, the best in the business apparently. And so that's what they came up with. And in classic I always enjoy legal case, even if it's a civil criminal or kangaroo court kind of case where it doesn't really matter. Of saying a verdict that is given that starts with, well, there was no pain had no case to begin with, but nonetheless, we heard it and then we determined that I had no case. And so they wasted everyone's time. And they probably knew this and probably legal adviser was suggested this and they are still wrong. So stamp up. It is incredible. It's like half a million pounds or Euros. Which is no, no, not half a million. Yeah, half a million. A million bucks. It's a big investment on Oscar piastre. This is cost McLaren so much money as to what's going to unfold. Obviously, there's the severance package for Daniel. And they obviously probably something to Alpine as well, or but it's obviously gone in their favor. And it's probably the only wash up that's left is really where Daniel's going to end up. That's kind of the unfinished part of this tale, and we still don't know yet, where he's going to end up, but the whole straight swap for Ricciardo back at Alpine doesn't seem to be sticking. Which is quite remarkable to tell you the truth, but anyway, yeah, so I think if we examine all the players involved, el pain and maybe otma look inept. Quite frankly, to be very very harsh with you. Mark Webber seems complicit in the whole scheme, but nonetheless he was doing the right thing by Oscar to find him a safe for next year because obviously Alpine were very vague about things and so they said, well, I can get stuff. Let's say who will actually take us. And so therefore, McLaren, McLaren and Zac Brown, and then dry sodal in terms of stock down in terms of the good block pub test. And your side also says he was very transparent about the whole thing, Daniel Ricciardo apparently knew, but then the whole sort of thing of addressing the staff and lending Daniel say that I'm thinking I'm not leaving. Is questionable. It's like you wouldn't do this by stealth. Surely but then again on my staff now I just went to Oscar piastre while I was in the middle of a simulator. All the race driver next year. Well done. Here's a pat on the head. So yeah, probably out of all this. Alpine look ridiculous, but McLaren seemed like ship blokes. Is the crux of it really? And Oscars is just a porn in the middle and Danny Ricardo is the biggest out of all of it, really. So it's an interesting title and one that I think, yeah, it's very juicy and salacious, but very sad to see what's happening to Ricardo and hopefully it's not the end of the road for him on that front. What he said isn't it? Because you've wrapped it up very nicely there in any little package. Alpine sort of look like incompetent and McLaren. Well, it turns out they weren't as dick dastardly as we all thought they were a week ago. Wow, they still potentially didn't tell Ricardo a lot of this stuff, although we also argue Ricardo could have deduced some of it. But to be fair, when they'd signed up, Oscar on 4th of July and Ricardo put out that message and also there's a good word that they probably had some kind of pre agreement even earlier than that. Maybe in June, because there's just so much in action on Alpine's part that, yeah, as you say, mark where we just needed to get him a driver. It's his job to make sure Oscar is employed and he was doing his best to make sure that was the case. So it turns out, actually, he's coming out of this looking much better than I think you probably would have or could have rather. But as you say, the question is now just all about Daniel Ricciardo. Now I'm over here, Robin. I've been looking, I've been looking at Daniel for the last two weeks, obviously, 'cause it's what you do when you come here. And he just looks sad. I don't know. I've been asked. I've been asked this by a couple of different people. And I'm actually struggling to even think of other hyperbolic words to use instead of sad, but he's just looks sad. He looks sad. He's putting on a brave face at a sort of, it's sort of like enough to get through, but you can still see the behind this brave face, it's sadness. I don't know if you saw that clip where he said he didn't know the 4th of July thing.

"That's just like, yeah, let's just fix that for future events. But if we really, yeah, yeah, if we really go Lance for the taffy in that battle. I'd actually flip it around. Despite the fact Nicholas Latifi has it literally no points to his name. And for a lot of this season it was behind Nico hulkenberg. He's raised only twice. Yeah, correct. If we want to really be, you know, I'm being very harsh, I think in this one. I don't know what I have for breakfast this morning, but I'm not rampage, but yeah, there's only if you look at it mathematically, there's only three points that's where in the safety and albon in the driver's championship. But there is nearly some 12 points between Vettel and stroll. So we know the Aston Martin is above the Williams in that front. And unfortunately not by much, if we did a team ranking, watch me fly. We thought I really think because I think the drive is ranking is a little bit different. I think to the team ranking. So I think accommodation of Aston Martin just not being the team that they were for various reasons, which are very obviously very well documented, but Sebastian Vettel to be effectively checked out. As harsh as it is for me to say, yeah, for him to be where he is in the driver's championship is probably better. So he ranks 15th Sebastian Vettel with a 5.525 in this very, very tight battle. He's between Pierre gasly and Joe guangyu. And I think, yeah, I think I would have Daniel Ricciardo Lance stroll Nicholas Latifi as my bottom bottom three. So latifa ahead of stroll. Yeah. Yeah. So Latifi stroll Ricciardo 1819. Okay, let's sort out this middle of the arse into the field to wrap up this writing system. So at the moment, a Schumacher gasly vital Joe and sonoda. I am not comfortable with cenotes so far behind gasly. That's known it has made some high profile mistakes, so I will give you that. But I, as much as that car is a bit average. As much as gasoline has outscored synod as well, perhaps you acknowledge that. I have been surprised that gasly hasn't had more of a handle on cenote this year. So diary is getting better and obviously I think he has more potential still to come. But gasly was so this is a similar to the Ricardo logic acid was so good last year. And as much as he doesn't have the tools to these disposal at the moment, I've been surprised that he's often been close. The tone is often been close to him. Yeah. So I'm almost willing to, I don't know if I necessarily want to reverse them, but they should not be four places apart as they are now or three places apart. So it's just a matter of where we rank them relative to Vettel and Joe Gwen you, I guess, and Schumacher. Yeah. I'm actually quite surprised how far up the order Mick Schumacher is. I think he's definitely had a better ever since ever since, what's his face? Everything's good to start. Gave him a rocket up the ass after a couple of real areas where he's drivers. Under question. Oh yes. He's definitely improved. So maybe that 13th is fair, only because of the improvement chart where if you look objectively, I really think peer gasly Sebastian Vettel probably Yuki tsunoda and maybe Jaguar new show one you get is higher up in my estimations only because this is his first season in Formula One and I think he's doing a pretty good job all things considered. Even though the Alfa Romeo tried to kill him at one point this season, he's doing okay to be to be circulating around. He's not disgracing himself. No. He's doing fairly well. What I'm saying. Yeah, yeah, so I think in terms of he gets, he gets a softer Mark. Because it's his first season. And I think he's actually doing a good job, whereas you look at rice winners and world champions. Respectively. They definitely, if we want to give them the Danny Ricardo treatment, they're definitely underperforming. Where they're at. So I'd almost flip it on its head where I would have to say, maybe we leave, make Schumacher in 13th with a 5.5 because of his improvement. And he's had some genuinely good battles with drivers. And it's been good for Hass as well, which is why I want to do a team one as well. We went to it this week, but yeah, for him to be 13th, I think, is correct. So I'm going to go 13 to make Schumacher. 14th joi guano and because of The Rookie thing. So Mickey is only above everyone because he's actually done a pretty good job all things considered. And then I would have to go, Yuki tsunoda, and then therefore Pierre gasly Sebastian Vettel. Where they are only because yeah, only because they've they should be doing better as far as I'm concerned and I don't think they really apart from obviously Sebastian Vettel and Lance stroll. I'm more disappointed in the AlphaTauri fight because I don't think there's not as much daylight as there was last year if you recall between the two. Yes, I am going to change. On my lifeline, and we're going to write up both ladders as well, both ranking systems and put them in the show description and on the website where whatever and you can maybe vote for your favorite one and the punt is rating, of course, will have all three up there. But I am going to put, I'm going to put Vettel ahead of this little battle because at the moment now let's have a demise two races with COVID and then maybe because he was recovering, maybe because he'd never have practiced time, whatever. Bind these car in Australia. I can't remember who's in the points then or not. Probably wasn't realistically. But he still tied on points with Pierre gasly. And as much as that Al car is not that good. Yeah. It's definitely not worse than the Aston Martin Carl that I own a relatively close battle at the back of the field to be fair. So maybe I'm giving too much weight to that. But just for that reason or alone, I also think vet has had some decent drives not often or regularly, but like, you know, 16 Azerbaijan's pretty good. Although he finished behind, I guess, if you were in FIFA, maybe it was just that rice. I just think he's had some decent drives. I'm willing to put, I'm gonna put Vettel 13 and then gasoline sonoda, I'm demoting ah, but then Joe gwyn knew, maybe maybe gasly Joe and sonoda. I know I said there's too much space between gasly and sonoda, but it's not only did have that silly crash in Canada when he probably could have scored points. I'm gonna take points off him there. The gasly Joe sonoda Mick. I know that sounds harsh, but for the same reason that points were taken off Perez because he's come off the boil lightly. Make sure Mac has only, I'm gonna say his had four and a half cup races all year. Up until like Canada, Canada probably would have scored points, so maybe 5 and a half, four and a half 5 races. But the car failed him there. But you know, he rode off two Haas carts. I and it's not his rookie year anymore as much as I lost you kind of the car was so bad and the team was quite poor and whatever. He almost don't want to count it as a rookie. This is sort of his de facto rookie season, but I think that I'm gonna weigh him down a bit because he starts the year was so underwhelming. But I'm hopeful that healing is another driver I'm hopeful will improve when we do this if we do this at the end of the year because it does feel like he's getting there like he's starting to develop, but I am putting him at the back of this battle. I don't know if that's harsh, but so my order is going to be Vettel, gasly Joe sonoda and Schumacher. I suspected you were a Sebastian Vietnam apologist from way back as well. Yeah, okay. That's fair enough. I just think the established drivers haven't really taken that front. Haven't done the best, but anyway, I'm happy with that. So let us know in the Discord channel in the same channel where the driver votes are. Not only can you continue to contribute, but we're going to put up my ratings rob's ratings and the accumulated punter ratings and you can decide who you reckon it's got at most ride or wrong and of course let us know in the Discord channel as well or on social media where you think we've gone right and

"And now that's a memory for him, which is a little bit of a little bit of a victim of the news cycle because he's one of a handful of Grand Prix of the Monaco Grand Prix and that kind of thing, but he's definitely in terms of socks down. He's practically crypto. In fact, he's probably the trajectory is almost the same as cryptocurrency. So if you have put down a loan on Daniel Ricciardo, or you are going to be paying that off for quite a while, is the great metaphor. So yeah, and obviously it took a bit of a haircut anyway to go to McLaren in the first place because I think by then it was based on, I guess, reputation, then at Renault, which was still banking on, I guess, his time at Red Bull, whereas now, not even thinking about his time at Renault or Red Bull anymore, we're thinking about him purely in terms of being kicked by Lando Norris weekend weekend in weekend out. No worse sight honestly than saying any cut than saying Lando Norris since I pay four. For example, even in free practice in Danny Ricardo, fought at like 60 or something. At least at least if they're 6th and 7th. Don't care what order it is. As long as they're close, it's when Daniel Ricciardo dips into double digits. On the leaderboard, it's when it's more painful. Yeah, it's like a look wait and say, but it's nice that it's nice to think anyway that now some of these rumors will have died down and it is sort of in McLaren school. He's made it clear it's in McLaren's Courtney all right, he's had enough he's commuted and now it's up to the team to decide what he wants to do. So I don't think that's the car really folds down to like 5th or 6th in the championship fight. I don't feel like there's going to be an appetite to really move on in yet. So I think that's going to be okay. Good news is anyway though for this weekend on the Daniel Ricciardo front is there was a tweet from William story this week to raise your performance and save your seat. Contracted 3%. Albeit a little cast to lay and drop you a case off at McLaren F one good luck. So you know, he's got at least one high profile back in his corner. "Working our way down a little bit Alonso was one of those drivers that went really long. And stopped on lap 34 and made the strategy work really well. I got lucky again, like a lot of drivers got lucky with the safety car, bunch to pack up as well. And both he and Norris hung on Norris was a little unlucky, didn't he lose a place in that. Yeah, McLaren pitted Norris a lap too late under the safety car so he cycled back behind Alonso because they're on equal tyres. That was good night woking. Alongside those really easy to overtake as well, isn't he? So Landon must have gone. That's curtains. Thanks guys. Thanks chaps. I mean, actually, he did say post race didn't he Lando that he almost wished he'd just made it a call. Which of course is something you could criticize the clerk for. Charles could have just said, I'm coming for soft, safety car. A 100% on the team. But of course, Lando and McLaren had a little bit longer to think about it than Ferrari and still got it wrong. So it wasn't just it wasn't just Ferrari's Ferrari's mistake. But those two drivers, after the safety car restart, I thought hung on really well and of course the drivers ahead of them, which was the Perez and Hamilton and leclerc were all fighting. I think it was 1.4 cars wide at one point. But, you know, those cars, they were able to hang on, it was again it was artificial because of the safety car, but a relatively quiet race for Alonso, but doing what he does really well and bringing the car home in 5th really, really impressive. And for McLaren as well. Yeah, they didn't help Lando Norris, but that's definitely where Lando is fighting for fifths and sixths at the minute with that car and hopefully coming away reasonably happy ahead of Max Verstappen with all that damage. And Daniel Ricciardo teammate in 13th on a day when there were 6 retirements though. It's around this time of the season. We talked about yesterday Kevin on the podcast. I call it the Giovanni factor, which is around this time of the season. He could do, he's such a great driver. He just never showed it in the first half of seasons. And then he get himself a new contract, and then he'd be really average again, but he's a really talented driver. Ricardo kind of doing the opposite right now. What have you got any more insight out of the weekly discussion about Ricciardo? What's your opinion on what is happening there with him? I mean, I don't think he knows, does he? He seemed really bewildered after the race. He just said he didn't have grippy didn't feel like he had as much grip as the other cars around him even. And the cars around him are quite a long way behind the other McLaren. Last year we know it was because the particular characteristics of that car, he just couldn't get his head around, which works up to a point, but of course the top drivers do tend to adapt with whatever they've got. Alonso is a great example of that actually. And Verstappen and how much the top guys are always do that. And the fact that it's bled into this season where the cars are completely different, you think a clean slate. And if anything, Ricardo's experience of different types of F one car over the years would have helped him. Get on top of it quicker than Norris. Yeah, I think he's in a really in a really bad place at the moment and Norris is not for me at one point yesterday in qualifying. I think we had we had Verstappen leclerc Hamilton Russell and Norris in the top 5. I was like, yep, they're the top 5 drivers in F one at the moment. I think Norris is performing that well. And so he's probably making Ricardo look worse than he is, but even so you expect a Grand Prix winner and a good Grand Prix win as well. Danny Ricardo topped our top 50 twice when he was at Red Bull. He saw off Vettel four time world champion there. He is and has been a mega driver. But there's just something not gelling with that car, whether it's set up concept or something. And it's a real shame because Ricardo's he's a really likeable guy. He's a brilliant person to have in the paddock. And when he's on it, he creates fireworks on track as well. So it's such a shame to see where he is. All right. We'll finish off with talking about the rest of the points scorers. So mixture maca first points in Formula One very, very popular, two cars in the top ten as well. Mick finished ahead of his hero and mentor, Sebastian Vettel, bringing the Aston Martin home nowhere near it should be, but again, like I say 6 retirements and Kevin Magnussen in the second half in tenth place. Hayden, that's a really popular results for Mick Schumacher today. And an important one for him to get some points in his Formula One career. As you mentioned earlier with his battle Verstappen, he probably on that last lap was really thinking with risk reward. What is going to start going to say if I do throw this up the inside of Verstappen and get punched into the wall and I've missed out on points and damage the car again. I think that may have been playing in his mind. He thought, you know what, I'm going to bank this at 8th place, pick up these points and live to fight another day. But yes, no, it was nice to finally see that. And yeah, Vettel directly behind property, trying to put a shot of push him on, encouraging him in this sort of paternal figure that he has become to make Schumacher, but yeah, not a popular sort of end of points set up for that. Did you want to talk about the start? We've got ten minutes left. And let's go back to the beginning. So I finish off in 11th was Lance stroll in the second Aston Martin Nicholas Latifi in the Williams, but not the Williams, the new bits in 12th, Danny Ricciardo 13th, Yuki tsunoda 14th. Esteban ocon finishing with a fuel pump, I think it was fuel pump issue Pierre gasly DNF Valtteri Bottas really bad day for Alfa Romeo. And a downturn for Bottas in his season after a good start. George Russell couldn't take the restart because his car was helped back to the pits with outside control, Alex Albon, who we've mentioned now out of hospital. Who was involved in a secondary accident being shunted from behind by Vettel, which put him. It was as horrible as she's really high speed. One of those ones where you get spun into a concrete wall and then that spits you out and then two more drivers hit you. And then Joe, which is which is the big one we need to finish off talking about. So Kevin, just give us your thoughts first of all before we get into any other details on watching that live. Well, it was horrible, wasn't it? It was anyone's fault. I think it was just one of those racing instance where you've got obviously Russell slough of the line on the harder tyre, and it meant that cars were around him. And he got, I think it was gasly, got his nose in there. And you could see get on the onboard gas he's trying to get out of it because you can see what's about to happen. But he just can't get his front wheels out of the way quickly enough and he clips Russell and then Russell flicks flicks into introduced car and it's horrible the way it's very unfortunate the way it just fix it over enough and I mean the role looks like it's smashed to pieces..

I believe that Tetris may well be the first virtual sector. So we've been talking for ten years about the first virtual sport. Yeah. Yeah. Described as perfect, right? Because how would you improve it? Not just a game. It's a history. It's not just evolution. See, it's drive to survive. Danny Ricardo looks like he goes to the bars. He knows some girls. He's a human. The people who play these games look at this. Look at these people. You get your Netflix series. You're going to a lot of these sports. Actually, not Tetris maybe, but a lot of the eSports people they are kind of becoming rockstars and they have their attitude and the teams for League of Legends and dota two and these teams. For some reason moba's release. But I do enjoy watching 14 year old kids playing Tetris and hilarious. That's the other thing. You're watching somebody drive, you're watching somebody play football. There's a motion. These guys basically you watch and play their slack jog. Yeah, yeah, because they're exactly because that's how they went. That's the hard thing about eSports translating to be a drama is so wafer VR eSports and then you'll see them flailing around and stuff. They've tried. They've had celebrities play on these teams and also when you watch eSports, they get hyped. They yell at each other. As much as the F one racer can sit in his car and do this and with a helmet on, I can't see his face. And I just figure it out. Get these guys going 80 miles an hour down a straightaway plane. Yes. Now you got to sport. No. But.

"Yeah. You know, Jason is gone. And he did say, look, you know, if I was that age of Lewis was that age, they'd probably driven much more like that. But when you get a little bit more experience you go, actually, you're threw away points there. I don't need to do this. And, of course, he also runs the risk of he might come up against someone who is less accommodating than Lewis. Let's say it's George Russell gets into the murk and he goes, well, I'm going to make a stand against this. They're going to keep having bent cars, right? And those are probably going to change because they're smoking wrecks on the side. So I would have liked to see max going to the chance at finale one point behind. Because I think then he has to make those moves with a bit more judgment. I'm not saying you wouldn't have made them because he's, you know, but I think he knew that he could not launch it down the inside, both on lap one and at the final lap and know that Lewis was going to do his utmost not to have a crash because it Lewis couldn't afford it. But watch max couldn't afford it. How do you approach that differently? I think that would have been fascinating to see. He might well have found a way past because he is a great driver. So hopefully we'll see that the Max Verstappen story is far from being written and finished yet. This is just one of those miles milestones in the road. But for me, at the moment, there is still still the best. Max came up against the stewards and his own reputation at turn one. On lap one, didn't he? Yes. That's who he came up against. I mean, I think in those early laps, the Merck was the quicker car. So I think Lewis would have had every chance of getting ahead. But it was his ripped. It's what he'd done earlier in the season. I'm clouded the judgment of the stuarts. And I'm sorry. I'll say that because I think that's the case. Alex Kalinda who I'm sure will say this in the we'll get into this in the F one podcast that will be coming out a week or two's time is that he felt that max was living by the sword diabetes sword by putting the same west saying the same thing, really, which is you've put yourself out there. You've stepped out of line of everyone else. I'm sure max knows where the line is, as racing drives, you know, certain things you can get away with in certain things you can't. He did that when he came to everyone he was doing that moving under braking, and other drivers were like, oh, hang on a minute. And that got clamped down on, and he stopped doing it. He doesn't do that anymore. You don't seem. So he can adjust and get better. And I think that's quite a horrifying thought for everyone else. When Lewis retires, and max, if he can round off these last few edges, yeah, he's going to take some stopping, isn't he? So we're just at that tipping point. I think where max has got to find that last little bit and it'd be really interesting to see if he can find it. I think if you want me to sit on the sorry to come off the fence because it's bending a bit under the way of me. JBL now. So as the all round driver, it's Lewis, isn't it? I think so. I think so at this point. But as I say, that's not all that's one other thing on the challenge. That's not British bias. I really couldn't give a monkeys where the drivers come from and in fact we picked the last driver who was not world champion. Sorry, he was world champion that didn't get number one, was back in 2016 when Daniel Ricciardo was number one, he had an eco Rosberg and Lewis and 2014 when Lewis world champion we also picked Danny Ricardo so because he was a stunning drive in Red Bull. So we're not antibiotic but we're not pro appreciation. We're just trying to go on all the criteria that we've just discussed and I think it shows quite even just for it's so marginal. That decision. Was Jensen number one in 2009. I will just look at it. I've got feeling Lewis was number one in 2009. You can see what he did with the I've got a little McLaren. Exactly, yeah. I've got a list of all the winners, which is a separate podcast, because fantastic. For just the audio listeners, we're currently looking at a spreadsheet that cares about all the top 50. For those of you watching what I'm going for the spreadsheet is actually a photo of the big wall chart he has in his bedroom. For those.

How do you think that the race star could unfold between the two teams? Well, I mean, we said this at Austin. We've always kind of proved to be correct. There were kind of fireworks there. Max was that for making a bad start on Hamilton getting by him on that one out the first corner. But yeah, this one definitely, again, we've seen so many occasions. There's been instance has been people cutting off going the grass earlier as Hamilton did that a couple of years ago. There's definitely there's definitely going to be something happening here because it's the longest rundown term one on the whole Formula One calendar and we know that there's going to be a slipstream effect, both Mercedes drivers were saying it's not quite as bad incidentally even though it's shorter at Sochi. It's not as bad as it is at such gene in terms of here at Mexico. So the slipstream the tow effect won't be as bad. They're still going to be there. So I think the Red Bull cars you can expect them to be swarming the Mercedes drivers. There's almonds that they're going to have to work as a team to keep the Red Bull's wine so be really interesting to see what he makes of that. And of course, team orders, there is the whole specter of team orders over everybody out to all the sounds of both those sets of drivers in a bot ass let's face it if he's if he leads the entire race of Hamilton behind him. He's going to have to give up that victory. It's a slam dunk decision for Mercedes. They've got to have hammer to win this race if they are running one and two. Same with Red Bull, Perez, if he does find himself ahead of Max Verstappen, he will have to give up that position. He's just good rating since there. But yeah, it's pretty hard to pass here in terms of if you don't have a massive sort of offset pace advantage, so I think I'm will need to go on the attack. We know he's not afraid to get aggressive get his elbows out. So yeah, I'm once again expecting term one fireworks. Oh, this season has given us a lot of lap one drama so far. And yeah, I'm not sure that it will hold back tomorrow, but we will see. But of course, the restart is just one thing. We then also have the remainder of the race and this is a trip that you can overtake at, taking into consideration the race pace that we have seen in the practice sessions. Who do you think has the upper hand for bringing home the win? Well, I sort of disagree on the overtaking here at Mexico. Plenty of teams speaking to them, of course the weekend pretty pessimistic about the chance of getting by other cars just because following is going to be very, very tricky. It's going to be a one stop race bit of time management. So it's not necessarily going to be as easy just because there's a long straight. That said, if they find each other close together, the DRS effect is going to kick in. In terms of what we've seen the practice sessions on the long runs did a little add a slight edge, but then Red Bull Mercedes diverged on the tires they used in fp two Red Bull on the mediums, Mercedes were on the hard, so you know, not a like comparison, but Mercedes definitely was right there. The edge that rebel did have was so small that it would make it hard to get by, you know, okay, they have an edge, but even Mercedes are still ahead after the end of lap one. It's going to be a one stopper because the long pit lane time loss. So, you know, strategy decisions are going to be are going to be pretty similar. You would expect looking at it on paper. But what is interesting is that it's unseasonably hot in Mexico for this time of year and that could yet boost Red Bull it has done better in the hot conditions or the races we've seen so far this year. So still hope for Red Bull. Plus the fact that could well be a race of attrition, speaking to Dave Robson at Williams, he was there pointing out the fact that the brakes, the engines, they're going to struggle to stay cool. So come the end of the race, we could well see many cars dropping out or at least a few. That's where we sort of suggesting. So maybe that will impact in the battle at the front, who knows? Yeah, the conditions at this track that the weather, the altitude, et cetera, of course, that is going to play a part this weekend. We've heard lots of the teams discussing the effect of the altitude, as you said, the chances of some cars not making it to the end. So definitely worth keeping an eye on all of the drivers throughout the field because of that. Now moving further down the top ten let's talk about our fertility for a moment. We've already touched on Yuki nada in quite a lot of detail, but Pierre Gauss Lee was really, really fast today. What did you make of his performance in particular? Yeah. I mean, I think I've made it fairly clear but I think it was driving at the end of Q three and I had to say I think that undid all his good work to get there, not really much more to say on him. It's unfortunate, but yeah, I just don't understand why you didn't follow gasoline, but anyway, on gas Lee, once again, absolutely excelling. Is interesting speaking to him in the press conference on Thursday because the Tom Clarkson and the press conference was pointing out that he's on the same number of points or I think actually just one less point than he was. Then he ended up with at the end of the season last year or same number of races in 2021. And gaslit he sort of made the point of all, you know, this is why you can't you can't believe statistics because that year I had a race win and things like that. But I think actually if you flip it around, it shows you just what a good job he's doing. You know, he's the same number of races. He hasn't had that race win, which let's face it was very, very lucky. There is no way he should have won that race if he was Hamilton hadn't made the mistake at Monza in terms of coming in when the pit lane was closed. So it just shows you he's driving better and he agrees with that, you know, I asked him how do you feel like you're driving better? He said, yeah, well I feel certainly more consistent and more complete driver and it's showing up in his results. Yeah, we've said it so many times before on this podcast that Pierre is really, really showing his wife in that alpha Tori and being a fantastic lead for the team and helping them move forward. Of course, here's teammate Yuki is one of several drivers taking a penalty tomorrow. We're actually going to see a lot of drivers are trying to make their way through the pack and as a result that, of course, bumps up certain drivers as well opening up opportunities for them. How much of an impact do you think that these penalties will have on how the race plays out tomorrow? I don't think it makes a huge amount of difference of them the alpines or certainly Fernando Alonso, rather, get let off the hook for their messy session with Alonso knocked out in Q one, not really nailing his lap or definitely not nailing his lap when it mattered although kosaku was still on the last row with his engine penalty. What will be interesting? Again, actually, it's come back to him at least in Steve, slowly can redeem himself, given the fact that the Honda engineer will go well here. But the other thing to really keep an eye in terms of the guys at the back of the grid is landowners, as I mentioned, he's another one with an engine penalty. Can he get out the order to try and help his teammate Danny Ricardo save points in that battle versus Ferrari? It was interesting Daniel Carr did very well to split the Ferraris, which have been going very, very well throughout practice in terms of their pace in qualifying although charms of glass of held up his hand.

"But on the other hand, he called Louis Hamilton a stupid idiot in flipped him off. So who's manufacturing the drama here? I just kind of feel like if you're gonna be like Kawhi Leonard and be like, all right, I just wanna, I just wanna focus on ball here. That's one thing. But it seems to me like Verstappen is gonna turn himself into a one man Netflix show with his drummer. That was really lame out of him, but not surprising. I think he's socially awkward in the best way if you were a driver. Like I think he is that guy. I think he's just wired so differently that I mean he's nothing else is going on. Nothing else is going on except for him going ahead and winning a race. And this is, you know, just an impression from somebody who I don't know that once all of this became more popular and the sport is so popular now in the states because of the Netflix show that that's what happens is that you never really like, hey, I'll be happy to grow the sport and grow the sport. Oh, now that it's growing, and I'm getting some attention that I don't want. Well, now I don't want to do this, which is stupid. I mean, it's why any of us are even talking about this right now is getting to learn about all these guys. And when you start figuring out some of the stuff and you're watching guys fight for tenth and 11th and you're actually into it, by the way, shout out to cenote, just tough, just tough to pass. He's not going to give it. I don't know if he'll ever sign with a better team, but that guy's tough every week I always feel like guys look great cenotes in front of me now. This is a pain in the ass. But I think the max stuff was very who's the NBA comp? Who's the NBA conflict? Tony Hawk. Tony Allen's Tony Allen might be a good one. But I'd like to go older. Let me be Alvin Robertson. I'm not sure. I'm not sure I follow a particular album Robinson comparisons. But yeah, no, I completely agree with you. And also, by the way, we already had this where Merck and Ferrari decided not to be in the first season of driver to survive. And then Danny Ricardo became a worldwide sensation by being mister Netflix and then Mark was like, oh, no, no, no. We're in this now. We're in this now. And so if we're stopping once to become international superstar, you got to play the game. Man, you gotta play the media game, you gotta play the Netflix game. Tens of millions of people watch this. I just think that there's just not, I just think it's a very short sighted of him. If he wants to be, this isn't, I got to be honest with you. This is a Netflix driven thing. And so many were 400,000 people in Austin this week, Shaq, Shaq was there. Shaq was one of them. Ben seller was there. Shout out Shaq, Shaq has apparently been to some of the European races as well. He's no Netflix bandwagon guy. He's no spend stiller might be some of those other folks. But there was 400,000 people I think there were less than 300,002 years ago the last time they had this race with full capacity. That's a Netflix thing. And if you want to be a part of the narrative of F one, I kind of think you have to be in the show, bro yeah, I think max is totally wrong about this. But he would be if I were to vote or give you odds for who would be the guy that says I don't want to do this. It would be him. Who are you rooting for between max and Hamilton the last few turns? Last few laps. Hamilton. I'm rooting for Hamilton. I like Hamilton better as a personality, which is, you know, when I don't cover this as a journalist, I'm just covering as a fan and somebody and a part time F one podcaster. And so I'm rooting for a team that I like and Mercedes I'm running for a driver who I think is a more engaging personality. I think it's more interesting, like Louis talking about winning is monitoring the max talking about winning or not talking about winning whenever he wants to do. I was fascinating. The one thing I didn't know I George Russell in 2018 last week, Austin is like cherished among F one drivers. I think Lewis said it last week. It's the only city where he goes out to dinner every single night. George says that the track is actually amazing. It was built. He said it was built on a swamp, so it's very hilly and also not smooth. It's just kind of a rough ride for a lot of people. And so it's a very interesting track. And so all of that came together, but I think that just to answer your question, I thought it was an amazing race, but I actually the whole time I was just thinking about how Louis is endeared himself to America. He lives here part time. I just felt like it was a better story if Louis won. And by the way, you know, take the lead in the championship race and all that stuff when we got the aerodynamic problems of Mexico lumen. Yes, yes. Well said, great track. Great track. And then there's a couple. There's a couple of tracks later on in the 5 races left. There are a couple debutants. They've never raced there before, and they said there's a bunch of straights there, so that might favor Mercedes.

I was not enough one podcasts or but one of the one of the us who are never going to watch it The reason why. I mentioned it. Is that dan ricardo when he wins a podium He takes the champagne at the very end and pours it into his racing shoe and then he drinks from the shoe the champagne and they have a call that a shui and so somebody in the in the slide group said neck. Are we going to expect a shui from you. So i put in my little comment. Shui shoe shoe weekly. So i'm hoping that somebody will have a shoe and some champagne for For nick let us down. Please don't let us down anyway. So that's what. I wanted to say about video that and also Let's talk about last episodes. Cover art. Liz you wanna throw that up there. Okay i need. And it was episode. Four eighty eight and the title of the of the episode very interesting title Let's see what was it. Vodka burner dot and runaway runway gopher. And so that was the an obviously self explanatory the cover art there the Aleutian or some type of russian airplane with a couple of Vodka bottles Igniting and a groundhog popping up from the runway. As saying was that very cute nice job neck on the cover art and we also have some feedback from nick. But before we go to nick. We're gonna talk to steph again. Because she remembered something that she forgot to tell us about. I did do some flying Just a little bit. Unfair evening yeah. Demo jumped to of course nick goes what's demo. Well demonstration parachute. Jump so It was the it was the first home game for the local high school football team very close to a drop zone and they wanted to have someone parachute in with a with an american flag while they played the national anthem. So i was the pilot for that event Very good actually Surprisingly even though this was only like six miles away from the drop zone so he take off and head over there. It's like a three minute flight. Fairmount coordination Outside of the bravo. But you still have to have permission. there's some paperwork that's submitted to the physio and then you have to call in our advance and make sure that they have it and it still proved they can accommodate it with the workload Then apparently the paperwork didn't get submitted correctly so there was some scrambled trying to email. That last minute said well. I have here in my hand. Says it's stamped approved the well. We didn't get like well. I'm glad that columbia didn't talk to charlotte. But apparently that's another story entirely but we got all squared away and Yeah had a very nice demonstration just one jumper dumped the flag into high school and that all went well is beautiful night for it. Calm wind Very clear and it looked like everyone enjoyed it. Calm winds that's a good thing for skydivers right sometimes Your ground speed ends up being a little bit faster so some a little bit of a steady headwind could fly. It's nice to have a little bit of a headwind is it. Yeah tailwind no her lending for landing. Yes for landing. Okay yeah in my mind. That's what i was thinking. Okay sarah how about on landing on italy on route. Tailwind yes yeah okay excellent and if you remember anything else just Just chime in stuffed up. That's it we've got a little one eighty two so let me do this. I'm going to add this to the stream. "I'm so excited for this. I finally watched the Italian Grand Prix. It was on Sunday morning. I apologize I'm late. That game took place the same day that NFL week one kicked off. Saturday night leading up to the race was an all nighter for me. I was busy editing my predictions and previews and trying to get everything out I could. I think I uploaded literally like 35 videos that morning. I was a little busy to be watching an F one race, which isn't my bread and butter. People realize that my number one thing is football, I have to cover that. I will cover the Russian Grand Prix much more quickly hopefully Monday morning, my race review will come out for the Russian Grand Prix and Sochi this upcoming week. Anyway, I did watch the race from last weekend and it was a wild one. Oh my goodness. Lewis and max collided, Danny Ricardo won, it was a blast to watch. I want to break it all down. I want to start by talking about Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton crashing. So Lewis just had reentered the track from a pit stop, and max was really, really pissed because he just had an 11 second pit stop. He'd win her on the track one time and had gone from second place to tenth. And was really upset about losing his positioning, and he did not want to give up his position to Lewis Hamilton. So max drove up alongside Lewis as he went around a corner, and they crashed going around the turn. It was a scary cry. So terrifying. I put a video on my Instagram story, I put it on Twitter. Max Verstappen had all four wheels off the ground, and he climbed up on top of Lewis Hamilton's car. It's one of those things where you see Max Verstappen's car on top of Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes, and you have this awakening moment and you're like, thank goodness for the halo. Without the halo, Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton might have literally died, and anyone who had any opposition to the halo was proved on Sunday, like you were ridiculous. Anybody who didn't want the halo in Formula One, I think was just flat out wrong because you would have lost one of the greatest drivers if not the greatest driver in Formula One history, Lewis Hamilton. Definitely in the conversation. At minimum would have been severely injured by literally Max Verstappen's car landing on top of him. And it was ugly. And I do fear that this is not the end of battling and crashing between Macs and Lewis max and Lewis are number one and number two in the title fight in Formula One.

He's gonna come back. He still behind the qualifying proof of that but he responded late and he was able to make lapsed that. Put him in the conversation. Not he wasn't gonna win if they had run a regular race. I don't think he was going to be in the top five. Oh top six. Worst case i think for ferrari though outside of them putting a big lap together one or both of them can be very difficult for them to cut down on the deficit going to the italian grand prix though will see but i think it'll be a difficult weekend for ferrari depending on how things go it could be you. You never know it. It's like a dice roll with them from week to week. Which team you're going to get in with what the drivers are going to be able to do. But one thing. I will say about though that combination might be the best combination for arias had in a long long time because i sued each other very well and they kinda played off of each other well and i think they bring the things necessary to make ferrari a better team as they get into the new regulations in two thousand twenty two and beyond it certainly is going to be a tough upwards calling from ferrari you know Clap surprises this year is how well they've done together so you know they. They do definitely have the tools if they if mclaren defaulter any point but some will be further down the championship now to alpine mikhail full. You know i'll call him. He got his win. We kind of just need to forget about las rice of everything that happened. It feels like it's been four weeks right now but all still going to be feeling good after that. 'cause i'll just needs to make sure that they're staying. Had to those office hours yeah. I'm pretty much that's it. That's that's why. I would hope that the fernando's able to get into q three on on saturday because he's had a fantastic starts so if he's able to pick up a few more positions from like let's say. Starting seventh eighth gets off to faith. Maybe than if there's some paid strategy like he could be very much up there again just like it wasn't in hungary as well fighting for near near podium and esteban i mean he's obviously even not considering hungary like he's had a good form biz. Mid part of the season but especially in hungary was a Jewel jewel of his ground. I guess yeah. i'm not too certain though. How much faster day. Dale fine car might be to the and feel like well. At least pierre gaselee should be wide close to them. If not like even just you know. ahead of trains. Because i feel like both cars would fit strike relatively well. I don't think there is a massive deficit for either king from the layout layout of zone for of course if one of them ends up stocking juwan q. To than just over diggings it'd be difficult. But i'm not excited to see what happens but be identically. Keeping.

"Higher seventh. Come on that's a that's a business where you do a lot of drugs and suck a lot of weight the suckle lot jockeys so because because you got horse lighter horse when you're dealing with millions of dollars on the line like every pound every pound counts boy danny ricardo who's F one driver. we're eating. he's the guy can't go crazy. This off season really goes. We'll do think about a pound for them to lose a pound on that car is millions of dollars six. Oh you eat the stay at a certain weight. One forty seven. I think something like that was i. Did i tell you about the guy. What's his name. The number one formula one guy was taryn tactical who shooting and he was so good like he's the best they've ever seen. He'd never shopped before he looked like he shooting his whole life. Well the number one lewis handled that guy so that yeah he shooting and tactical dude. He didn't get a picture of him. I wasn't there. I just saw the video. I said go. How long has he been shooting. Because he's such an expert and he goes first time he's ever done it. We've never seen anything like it. But his i his ability to see the target off the charts you go. Oh that's why you're so great okay. Because you're such a freak. He's his ability to do that. Is like he could see the target. Because when you see the targeting or aiming. Who's a john. john. What you the freaks. That's your brother's favorite. Your favorite favorite hampton and then he likes danny dominates lewis hamilton. Yeah drives for mercedes right yes Zinc dime stew and then danny's with mcclair. And whatever city goes they bring a brand new nuclear just drives. But you don't watch formula one for a guy who loves cars can't get into it. I really haven't watched it. Jay awake much like the fucking pre war on the road if you like two things that toward the fringe fucking england. It's the pre-olympic tour france in for the one. I don't know what i'm looking at. I just don't care. But i think if you watch the mclaren p one there. If you watch the the series on netflix it really helps you. Yearn in like get into the. I watched some of their personalities. To lewis hampton that the biggest personality Kind of like talking such a team effort not really as far as but not like dan ricardo in this teammate. You really compete against your teammate. What i'm saying to to drivers that driver keeps outperforming. you know. it's like football that he's a he's a he's like nineteen who races with danny on the mclaren team and that danny had like a spot where he wasn't doing great and he just signed the team you know it's millions and millions and millions of dollars and they asked the young kids like you know. Are you going to help. Danny get back on track. He's he was not my responsibility. I have nothing to say that gay it right. Yeah when you come to football camp even if were starting a both year before you got to make the team again. Don't you comedian. If you're like a big boy yeah not big boy but you still still worn. Yeah sure but no no people you tipping get a longer leash. You're going to get along. Utah's lesson there's like a very small percentage and make it on the twenty four in the world. Think about game. You're trying to do. This started when he was like eight. He's he's the. I got a late start. You know. my detrimental is eight and like what you got to be into it right even born into like lewis hamilton He loved it so much. But the reason why there's not a more like attraction to it's it's super expensive so expensive in a lot of kids do it. So although lewis hamilton has the foundation that tries to get more people into it with lewis hamilton. When he was raised his dad had three jobs. And it was like dude. I'm working my ass off. So if i'm doing this you better fucking win all this pressure on him so he always always want dad would like the u haul in the trailer drive them everywhere so weird though you would as a father you'd go. There are twenty four slots. You're going to be one of them and take all. I'm gonna gamble everything on that like. That's why i now because everyone goes. That's that's the weirdest thing like racecar driver. But it's not though that's why he made it but when your son goes dad i want to be a race car driver. What you do go very cool. Let's do our homework and someday you'll be a race car driver and this guy went. I'll work three jobs and you'll become a raise those people out and make it though right because every parent's going to say that well so ten is one of the things i saw about tennis like. I love tennis and your other. I'd love to be a tennis pro. I saw. I went to a tournament in south of france where i saw these satellite pros. These women who are trying to make it to wimbledon and stuff like that. Well sir if you wonder why. A lot of americans don't like i've talked to american pros and i just got the convenience russians and serves. You live in your van. You live in a van with your coach or your father. Who's usually your father for your basically you go all year round you go to tournament to tournament tournament and you're competing and making no money and you're training and living out of a van play. What's sports. There's nothing glamorous deal with are the ones that make. Yeah yeah and some. Don't some don't or lockdown most. It's like soccer. When you want to be a professional soccer player you'll go to essentially these year round summer soccer camps sacriston stuff. And you still don't make it. I dunno matt's intense. Yeah man paid the big bucks. That's right that's right. What someone making like on the lower in f one. I dunno if you're if you're on one of those your you make all your bali twenty four and then the teams like renault red bull sadi's honda inc for our yet. I mean you're talking insane. Fucking twenty four one of twenty four. You're probably gonna make a lot of money. See if you scroll down. It says how much do former on the big boys but it. But it says you're that guy's poor six hundred eighty four thousand year to make sixty million wishes. But he's he's the outlier michael jordan. So the max and then there's one kid whose dads just like a billionaire owns the team and then has a son on the team and he's not bad. I'm sure you grew up doing it fun when you can practice all the time a having a having a data a billionaire helpful if you wanna get into that..
