Amazon union organizers deflated as vote tilts against them
"Workers at a warehouse in bessemer alabama voted against unionizing defeating. The hopes of labor organizers that this would be amazon's first unionized workplace in the united states would have been a rare victory and they traditionally add a union south but workers voted overwhelmingly against unionization by a margin of more than two to one here to talk to us about that. Is stephen basan. He is with our member station w. b. m. in birmingham. Hello good morning. Was this outcome. Surprise won't for a lot of people here yes. There was a lot of excitement. A real sense union had a chance now where this house is located about. Twenty minutes outside of birmingham surrounded by trees. Really not much else in on that. Drive there from birmingham. You see lots of pro union signs. There've been lots of rallies here with big headline names like actor danny glover bernie sanders coming through a congressional delegation but add the six thousand workers that actually work at this warehouse. Very few were showing up at these rallies. Mostly it's been crowds with out of state organizers for the unions or locals in alabama democrats shirts and not many people actually working for amazon so really we didn't know what most workers were thinking until the actual vote count this week where they delivered a definitive. No i mean so much. Attention has been sort of lavished on this vote. How is the mood. Change to after it was pretty crushing. Defeat more than two to one against the union and union. Try to keep up a brave face during a zoom press conference on friday. After the results organizers in the couple of workers spoke including emmett ashford who works at the amazon warehouse there. He sent a message to workers telling them to not get discouraged. The floodgates opened. We can't stop it. So i hope everybody has to get day this news as not discouraged as and we are holding our head high marching or and we will get what we deserve.
interview With Kristen Putnam-Walker
"Welcomed extraordinary women radio chris. It is great to have you join me today. Thank you so much candidates great. Be here so one of the core values of extraordinary women. Radio is impact trading impact. Making a difference in you helped over a hundred philanthropists strategically allocate over half a billion dollars in grants and gifts. I mean that's that's just incredible first of all So congratulations for that. How did you find your passion for philanthropy. A great question i. I'm not entirely sure to be perfectly honest where it started. I remember back in his will which was way back in the day. I'm being very passionate about trying to change. Us policy and in the third world is be caught at the global south In especially in latin america and became very involved as a student activist In trying in el salvador and central america nicaragua and trying to create a lot of change there. in fact. it's funny i I saw myself in washington d. c. During college i had organized a contingent of students my university to travel to these see and participate in a demonstration and that trend into a civil disobedience unexpectedly. So i got arrested for somebody you know. These are the days of cell phones right way to reach anybody nonetheless. I boarded this bus. Where all of us are being taken off to the washington. Dc place department. I suppose and i sit down my rights and musette next at asner actor right. The mary tyler moore show which means hopefully. Hopefully your your listeners. Know that show in high show about the next three hours talking to asner. I was probably twenty. That's awesome you know what i know. It was very fun but one of the first questions he asked me was. What got you involved in. this was it. Your parents are your parents political or whatnot and at the time quite frankly i didn't have the best answer i didn't entirely. No i just knew that. Once i learned about injustice in the world i felt compelled to act on it and so i think really that kind of fuels my passion and you know in philanthropy one of the benefits. I think of being a funder or advising funders as you get to be you get to put in a variety of positions places and experiences that you wouldn't otherwise have and so it's a privilege related to be able to talk to different kinds of people like i've worked on issues related to gang violence in california. I was in salvador during the civil war. I was in nicaragua during their presidential elections as an observer I'm doing some work now with an organization called body. Osuna does in santa cruz california along with today. Another actor danny glover who's a big supporter of theirs. And they're doing a lot of work on prison reform in california and all of the Know the ways in which the prison system is working against us. Not for us. And so i guess what drives me and release is seeing the impact Seeing people who are at the front lines during this work In creating change and being able to be part of it you might be part of it for a day on a site visit or he might be part of that because it's a project that you're working on but it really is such a privilege to be able to connect with so many different people who are doing such good work in the world

"Let's take this place. It was a Bank account or up there that was really a teller's window, and you just walk in real calm. So you walk right up. Look her in the eye, and you say man, this is a robbery, and you sure the gun like this. And he wants you to get hurt. Because I like you like you don't go breaking. You're not serious. Sissy space, Robert Redford. This is a neat movie. And here's one of the things that reminded me of that Robert Redford, he's really good actor, and when he's on screen, you you get that the movie also has Casey Affleck in it. Oh, Danny Glover interesting. Tom waits kind of an all star cast if and he says, this could be his last big screen film. If he really goes out on a high it's actually based on a true story. The over the hill gang a bunch of seventy year old guys that Robin banks for years across Texas and Oklahoma and whatnot the old band and the gun specially for you fans of Redford over the years. What a what a wonderful love letter and a way for him to show once again of what a great and why he's considered one of the greatest actors. Oh, man and the gun one five gala give it a four out of five, right? Really cool. So star is born old man and the gun. Yeah. You want to go. See those venom unless you're a comic book nerd, I don't think you're gonna miss it. In the slightest just gonna watch deadpool two again, it's funnier and better house up. "Not really. I didn't really care too much. It was nice seeing those too old icon actors on screen together. When you tell have heist films back in twenty twelve, right? I don't think we'd Bank robberies, so then continue. He lies to her, and then we continue to see his exploits as a Bank robber with his two henchmen or is two partners. Danny Glover and Tom waits who play they're like his getaway, their partners compasses the main gay compasses and face man. That's pretty much the movie. That kind of happens throughout the movie over and over. Again. There's a lot of Easter eggs for Robert Redford lovers like Brian Luthuli indeed. And. Look. I mean to the point that when the opening credits are happening, they got the, I'm sure they did this imposed. They made this happen on purpose that the opening titles are bouncing a little bit like in the frame. This is a movie that I imagine quitting tarintino probably masturbating later. I don't have as much to say about this as you do. I'm very curious to see what you want to talk about the spoiler section because to me, this was a very fine, very fun pleasant, little movie, like a kinder, gentler version of heat all the way down to, you know, the the aging Bank robber who falls in love, and he's trying to balance relationship, but also trying to rob banks. Then there's the whole cop story with his relationship and his which is very mad Trumpy it's troby seen it and liked it. It's kind of pleasant period piece. Great moments in this movie, though, the couple really great moments. Also Daniel hard to the the music as well. He was. Imposer and he's the same composer the did the glorious magnificent score for go story and you would. There's one section where you can tell it's the same guy. Other than that, the composers doing whatever the directors asking them to do which is completely different tone. There's also music throughout most of this kind of helping you along telling you feel it's a slowest fought movie, and we recommend this or listeners. In my opinion, you could do a lot worse. This is a objective, fairly smooth, fairly three star move for me out of five here. I'm going to be honest with you. I thought at your horrible theater right also, I don't know if you realize we're not that show Brian. I don't like to talk about this, but it's happening a couple times when I'm gone, you're horrible theater over here pavilion, and if I don't get like prima spot on the first level after go down, like subterranean de realize the bunch of I would imagine homeless miscreants use that as a toilet. I'll did not realize that if you park into wall, but one hundred three stalls against the wall, you will see the defecation really did not know that Tara never once a counter that terrible. That would be terrible. The horrible way to start my evening when I'm going to watch old Robert Redford movie. Yeah, it probably hasn't been cleaned up in the ninety minutes at your horrible feeder that you love what the deputation died down below. That's the mall now, the theater, but it's regular theater. You go in there and. They have some. Some young punk will come in and tell you what movie you just paid to employees, terrible. Why are you gonna come in and tell me which movie now. I've always thought, have you ever seen anyone run theatre panicked? I've always thought like what is that for? It doesn't do any good bubble be, but you know what? It does do harm when they give you misinformation. This fucking guy. Did he comes in and goes, hey, welcome to the landmark theater. You'll be seeing man on the gun with a Runtime one hundred and thirty four minutes. That means that many of you will go over your party said, and I'm looking at the client. I'm thinking fucked up and I miss read because I've done it before. I'll read an hour, thirty four and one hundred thirty minutes share different, right, huge discrepancy there..
The Predator movie review
"We got a new category, predator here is the brasa predator Rostom on. So, yeah. We just watched the predator. It's stuck on my hat. It is. There? Yeah, we just wash it and I think we both kinda liked it. I think I liked it more than you did. Right. But I think we both raised a pretty high. Yeah, we did. I, I'm, I'm putting up my number three as my third favorite predator movie. What about so I put her to. I'm gonna put it right back to it, just it just ekes out over the second one predator to mostly because the action sequences and any movie were Gabe. UC dies. I kinda downgrade, you can't kill the man, Gary abusing, even then even before the movie that shows some previews and they talked about the second with the way Gary UC died had to be epic. Yeah, yeah. They were shown ended previews that was kind of like you pointed out. You've got cut in half, but we're talking. Fell down ever feel. Yeah, he's uttering see, I place it second, and you put just blow that third. I mean, I honestly came in thinking this movie was going to be, I would have probably been walking out, but I, I liked it. It was pretty good all the pre all the previews and the talk. I was expecting it to be bad and. Shane black. I don't know a lot of his work anyway, so I was kinda kinda if you on that. I didn't see a lot of the action sequences in the previews. So I think the action sequences really helped a lot to elevate it in my mind. Yeah. I know you also talked about some of the humor in it. Kind of didn't Dan deferred you little bit, or what did you think about some of the humor parts? There was more humor than normal in the first one had some humor into two, but it was more kind of almost dark humor, but it was. It was a little different. You know, we had key in it, so it's going to be a little humor. You got, it's like, you can't have. He's got to be the smart ass or he's got us say something funny. He can't. You can't not. It wasn't enough to make the movie bad for me, but it was close. It was borderline too much. I mean, we're starting at the yellow peaks on the humor part you you rated your third one, second one. Sorry, I got my third one. Let's the some people. And we're here with what's your name, Sir? John, just we just watched the predator. What'd you think spreading the good? I love. I mean, what did you think about the what? What did you think about the action sequences? I mean, where would you? Where would you rank this among the all the predator movies that are out there. I don't know if I can really say it's better than you know the original predator with Arnold, but in definitely ranks up there 'cause I put it, I put his second. I jumped way up to second. And any favorite part of the movies every what's your favorite part of this movie? Without giving any spoilers just, you know. The, I guess the big surprise, you know. All right. I know so many good parts. It's easy to stop. I was so surprised watching. This will be. I be honest, I thought I thought I was going to be walking out of this movie. I wasn't going to enjoy it as much as I did. So we were talking about on the way out of the theater and I was like, wow, it's way better than I thought. Yeah, I did enjoy it a lot more than I thought I was as you know, mo- most sequels tend to kind of go little downhill and this one, honestly, just about it all the way back. Did you notice they kept referencing the first two movies? I honestly, I was thinking that was expecting Arnold or Donald Donald Glover, Donald governor Daniels, Danny, Danny Glover. Sorry, Donald was Landau. I was expecting cameo from there, but never came out, but it's still pretty good. Right? Yeah, I was expecting Arnold because you know it's new predator movie, but we, we did get a beauty. We did. We did. We did play actually played the guy son keys, so. So you gave it thumbs up liked it to them. Thanks man. Right. Thank you.

"Scorpio a guy called l. Scorpio and his honor of the last movie Scorpio, I think so his his, he's just a crazy. The ponytail tile and two uses that never run out of bullets. Nobody is the only person in this movie who runs out of bullets, Bill Paxton yet Robb way. Nobody else ever runs out of bullets and it's like it's peak noughties wherever we just like. It's madness. Do. Do you think it's intentional like it's supposed to be like a funny? No, I don't think it is, but then there's a bit on the try where everybody has gone. That's supposed to be a joke. But yeah, it's often hard to tell something. But I think it's just like it was one of those things that people didn't think about. Really, it's just like, look, we need a sane where people there's a shootout. So let's just have people fi, thousands of bullets without reloading. And it's, I mean, there is that saying once that in the predator, but the opening twenty minutes of this film is just that suspense. Lily and Danny Glover drives these cop car is going to sideline Dorrell's. He's talking about call plays. He's the cop on the age, and you know he cited for bloody police brutality and. Property damage these rectal eleven squad, what it just kind of looked like. He was recognize own com. Anyway, this this big wall, this is big pitch battle going on. And you see this, this Brown car with the police light just screamed through and I'm like, you going to, is he going to charge in the middle of this fight? Is he going to crash into some gang was he's not. He's just crashes into some pot just pocket. Calma is back your. Yeah. Drives the car and knock the door. But that's just it's just when he enters the antithesis of the saying. He's just like, hey, everybody. I just crashed into a couple of cars anyway. What's going on? How is that man like? He's basically Jason stipend from crank. He should bet a stroke, twenty years. Brad, right, exactly. Just constantly why? Yeah. A real gun that he's gone. I'm sure it's like a money. Nagel, but it's gone. All the call because it's supposed to be the grim dot? Yes. All the cops have regular guns, but they have all like h one has to lies asides on. Yes. What do you think of the invisibility effect in this much worse? I feel about their awesome. Good moments. Say that? Yeah, I remember the bit where he fought the priest in. But you say walking through the water, Alex owing. The credible? Yeah, but there's on the throat. Again to again, right at the end with we'd Verdoux element. This is because I guess the skulls and the spines and they actually magic now because I talk like it's a real thing because he's like this somebody here. It's a predator size, whatever. But how do you know that? Well, there's no other magic in that unit. I guess they're all insane on cocaine. You know, this is a lot of, yes, drinking each other's blotted with him. At the end, we see Danny Glover realizes that there's a whole bunch of predators on the planet, and that is the worst I've ever seen. Sorry, bad because I I, it looks to me they only had one predator, pseudo maybe two. Now that Mowlem on. Yeah, but I think they also did not me that three or four. But did you said it was a dance off? There's a video of a dance is a dance music dance, video dance, video, music debt. From that, even look it up. Right? But yeah, because I think when they come in because they're not in the same, so they brings great amino blue screen I'm in. Yeah, and they never looked like this until they'd cuts back to them and they ask standing in Rome. Yeah, terrible defects get much better in subsequent Brenta to move. But anyway. So this movie has some elements that I liked. Not because they good. I like Bill Paxton as the, the newbie. The cop who's who's arrived in in Los Angeles. He's transferred in and he's he's a real cool dude as a cold..

"I think so joe i feel like some actors get through some at listen some actors go through their careers and get something happens that you don't like them he didn't like this movie you're that navy or you know they stuck their nose out on some political issue and you don't agree with them so they don't kind of make it through their entire careers like just loved i think danny glover so lovable surely by handy anyway i mentioned him because he he is now officially stepping into a role believe it or not with airbnb as an adviser because airbnb as he probably now if you listen to this show has had some issues with diversity and with a discrimination right because whenever you have a system where the the airbnb so i just apply form said the people that are renting their homes are just regular old folk and the people that are renting a regular old folk and people are making decisions based on photographs they're seeing online and said there is some they've been accused and number show that there has been quite a bit of discrimination people not wanting other races to stay in their home not whining lgbtq community people saying in their homes vice versa so it's they've had some issues nam quite figured out how to manage this so dan i got it was like you know what i'm unhappy guys malkiat so he slept and he's on the board of advisors now and taken it very seriously and really trying to help them liam navigate these complicated waters akyea yeah i think this school yeah because i mean he has he really had any big movie roles i don't i don't i mean he's ten been under the radar a little bit so yeah and i see him getting involved in something like listen i wonder sometimes when you see actor sometimes i remember when i was younger i used to see like that i we used to wonder what happened to an actor they used to really lab i hadn't they've been in any movies lately and i would think something went wrong in their career but if you think about it sometimes.
