"For joining us for Saturday. February sixteenth Danny Clayton. Tom Faiza is here back from. He was in West Virginia. Can you imagine? Speaking of all those home inspectors out in West Virginia for what eight hours, eight hours. It was over two days. I did eight hours of instruction. Yeah. Okay. I told him. What's the biggest problem with houses? What are the three? Biggest problems with houses. Water war. Right. I can't tell you. How many times I've quoted you sing gutters? Grading in downspouts. But but I also back it up with the water water and water thing Eric Brown. Citing and limited as well. So yeah, you're dealing with people with roofs. You you do all that stuff. If you're going to do a roof, right? Everything's gotta go that is currently up there. Right. We we prefer. It's the way to do. And we want to get right down to the substrate. Make sure that that's in good shape. If it's not replace it. But we want to get our products on under the shingles. You know, there's there's a few major shingle brands certain teed is one of them that we use on. Corning is one we don't use. But it's one out there. J F has has different major shingle brands, and you can have ten different roofing contractors all lined up to do the same roof and use the same shingle and how they. What products they use underneath the shingles can be all different in how they install them can be all different. So the value is in the shingle that's very important, and that's actually a major expense in the project in the project. But. You know, you can have ten ten houses lined up done by ten different contractors and all perform differently, and I'm a big proponent on the types of under laments that we use because they are very expensive. They are high quality and a lot of guys a lot of companies even very reputable roofing companies that we compete with. Find ways to cheapen the the product to make their to make the prophet. And and I I don't agree with that. And we lose a lot of jobs because of because we're sometimes not priced competitively more expensive. But I can show you exactly where that is. And it's and sometimes in the underlying themselves. It's just your rough. Why would you not want to spend some don't mess around with that? Right to things you want you want you want a strong foundation, which we don't we don't do anything with anyone roof. That's gonna protect all your stuff in your house. You know, this this guy over here the world's best insulated house. I'm sure your rough when you spec your roof, you you were at you wanted a good under layment, right? You didn't you didn't put Saran wrap up there. Well, and I made sure the brand of the ice we call it ice and water shield. It's really by two minutes membrane that if there is an ice dam keeping water out times, the only guy that calls it that way. That's because our w grace attorneys sent me a letter once again, use our ice and water show. But anyway, thanks a lot article, Ukraine. I'll expect my letter in the mail. Yeah. Yeah. But the extended three feet into the living space above the living space, and I made sure it was that gooey sticky type yes and water shield. Not these chief alternatives that cheap alternatives are nothing more than they look like a piece of roll roofing with granules on it. And it's thin, and it just cannot perform this. So what's the price differential? I mean what what percentage are you paying more to get the good stuff? Well, in this doesn't mean our our roofs are ten times more expensive than other people's but within the ice and water the realm of that. Member in the time explained ice and water shield is all right. It's like Saint Kleenex, and maybe you're not using tissue or some areas. So. It can be like just the product itself can be anywhere from six to eight times more expensive. Okay. So you're you're not talking about a pack of gum off the shelf that off the shelf. That's a buck or a buck ten you know, what I mean? There's a there's a substantial amount in when you put all that together. And that's a big a big part of it. But it works. You know, it might it might be six to eight times more expensive. But it works maybe one hundred times. Okay. Let me do the matter differently. How much more would it be for just typical rough a typical we we sometimes come in maybe three to five thousand dollars more expensive, depending on the size of the roof. Right. So then the competition. So okay. So you get the cheap stuff, and it fails. What's the cost of repair? Number one, number one. You've got to get those guys back to maybe do the repair. Okay. Might be a trick in the roofing business. Yeah. And then after that, it's I mean, it's you're under layment. So the shingles torn off they can't be reused torn off. They're done. So we're talking about the shingles that everybody uses that her high-quality another roof. It's another route. Okay. Great. And we just had the weather that causes lots of problems with roofs. Yeah. There's people have a lot of problems with me. So when you mentioned the lady that had the the her moisture and the drywall once that happens is that wreck the drywall completely. No, no, she had a little water damage, you know, and it dries out, and then she has a little stained. So she's going to have to get a primer that can sustain block and then paint over the. You know, if if it's something that if it is a leak that regularly happens now, it's going to break down the the product it's going to break down the trial. So in this kind of station in the attic, and you said that maybe got absorbed into the installation to see insulation directors at this comeback is a fairly tough. You know, if it's a one time occurrence, it probably is gonna be alright. You know, but over time than the installation can get mad at down. And then it loses his value. You want installation to be fluffy and take up space. Who doesn't right? Eric Brown, citing unlimited is here, they do all sorts stuff have been around a long long time. You could see them at the Novi Home improvement show this weekend. We got thirty more minutes with him. If you want to join us four one four seven nine nine one, six twenty MAC, it'd mortgage talk and text find it is news time. "Here we go the fix it show is on the air for Saturday, February ninth. My name is Danny Clayton. Tom Faiza is on the road today. So filling in is Dan Kelly's creek plumbing. Dan, welcome back. It's always a fun time at a just a pure privilege to be here. Well, you know, I like DC's and you're one of them, right? So there you go so yeah. And we have special guest in the studio between now and eight o'clock Dave kilson from closet concepts with Dave you're representing the nary spring home improvement show. We are a weekend away from that. How 'bout that? Right. Or it comes fast enough. Yeah. Welcome to the show have you. Here's Wisconsin biggest shown, Wisconsin. We're going to talk about that between now and eight o'clock there's lots going on. But Dan, I got a backup with you. So oak creek plumbing. I mean, we hear them all the time and WTMJ or grape. Supporter of this radio station. We know that you've got a find crew there. Tell me about the last couple of weeks because two weekends goal, right? It was two weekends ago. We were just setting up for that polar vortex. Correct. What were you seeing? And what were you guys doing? And surprisingly the vortex comes down. People are. Panicking and pipes are freezing. And our phone isn't ringing, and I'm like, well, what's going on here? Well, what happens the pipes freeze people don't do anything. It's when they thought. And burst in the water flies everywhere. That's what we get the panicking people out there to to help service them and take care of their needs. So the freeze would happen. And it would then actually just expand the pipe itself. Right. There's ice in there. Of course, the pipe expands button bust, but it's ice or doesn't it doesn't. When it thaws. That's what we really get the calls. Does it happen in the pipe itself? As it happened in the joint is happening morsel in the pipe itself. And just if it's in the more isolated that cold is into that area. The more chance of that pipe bursts free tab. Yeah. Yeah. So it's a it's a time bomb it is. So we we highly recommend opened up the cabinet doors for your kitchen sink of it's at outside while any plumbing wall, somehow get some heat, or at least the air flow to that area in that will help immensely if you have to. I mean, if something's more susceptible to freezing in the past just turn it on and just a little bit at a little trickle trickle freezing water running water doesn't freeze and asking river out west. Right. You'll see that. Sure. So two, okay. Tell me about the process. So this is happened for somebody. It's leaking or even burst. Yes. Burston is is it like the? Yeah. It can create major dam we unfortunately, had some some clients that had some major issues going on. And they were actually a way they came home to just very very messy situation. So in an emergency triage situation is there anything the homeowner can do write them will maintain is turned off the main water match, which means that you gotta know where is ready get an order. Now. Some some situations in condos the main watershed felt isn't in your unit. So it can be scary a little pet so high so some some pre thinking and some forethought for this process. Definitely goes a long way and others. Also, some new products out there that can can sense the leak actually shut the water off for you. And it's main thing if you're if you have if the water breaks, and you're not home. It's just it's like, you don't know where the sharp L but same same result. So there's products all through that can actually shut the water off on your behalf. Even if you're not sure so your guys get on scene in there. The water's going to bait they're down. I they shut the water. All right. And what's the repair process? Well, I think a setting where is the leak find out where sometimes it's in the wall. Sometimes it's very exposed. Sometimes it's not and sometimes it's more than one place at the water frozen Perot, so isolated to wear those issues occurred. Of course, we we have to replace that pipe and and rebuild it. So turn assistant back on tested out can back up running. It's like well. I don't know if you're following the story this this downtown. Apartment complex that got built. It's like one of these high high high end apartment complexes, they gotta move. Everybody out is the building what it not even a year old, right? And it just installation issue that just well, I think what happened was a contractors for the story. I read. This is a high rent. Sure. Down on farwell, right K, one somebody left the door open and it froze and then up and down the walls. And it's everything that you describe it's a nightmare. They gotta move these people out in a completely dig these pipes out a wall. Where it is a nightmare. All right. So we're gonna talk about the spring home improvement show, which is a we're a weekend away from that. It's a big one. There's a lot going on Dave kilson here from classic concept. We're going to talk to him about the nary home improvement show and also many get really a little some closet stuff too. Because MAs well work that in that is on the way on the it WTMJ.

"The fix it show on Saturday January twenty six I'm Danny Clayton. Tom Faiza, art. So I'm doing a kitchen remodel. I actually I should say we're having a kitchen remodel done. And so are you should say Gandhi's wife is doing. He's riding along. So our discussion last night was do we still need a microwave in because I've seen these things these these like many ovens countertop ovens in their infrared. And it's basically one of the reviews, I read said, it's an easy bake oven for adults and the one I looked at and then was like a thousand dollars. Well, forget that. But then I look there's this is a fairly big category. Tom messing, everything up his agreed with my wife and says, no, you still need a microwave Danny sandy near microwave or can we just get by with one of these? And you gotta have a microwave. The coffee up. Well, don't let it go. Call whom thirty seconds. Warmed up one minute. Maybe you gotta make some tea. You've got a warm up the leftover rice and noodles kind of digest. It's that's what these things do you need. Both is what you well. We don't have room for both. So well, yeah. So you were saying that there's microwaves that that actually their convection as well. We have a microwave has a convection oven built into the microwave, and what a convection oven is is it's heat and air movement. So it'll keep the microwave up to whatever rea- it to four hundred degrees and blows hot air, Ron. So if you want to warm up that piece of cause we never have fried chicken our house, but if you want to one up at peace, and like a fried chicken or something you put it in a convection microwave convection oven, actually and for fifteen minutes. And poof, it makes it crispy on the outside it warms up, its stand tastic and and. You know, how you buy those Csikos precooked chickens at the grocery store, which we kind of like those and sometimes they're not crispy and our find the outside in. So you stick it in the micro that convection oven, and you blow I blow higher here on era blow hot air honor for twenty minutes, which is what a convection oven is. And boom, it's all crispy on the outside. It's dried up the skin and makes it really nice. What you need you need, you need a convection microwave. That's where I would go. Okay. Let's go to west Alice. He gary. Gary welcome to fix it show. Gary. Listening maple. We've got okay, he called his high efficiency furnace is dripping. What do they do that right there? There's at exit tube word stripping. Well. A high efficiency we call them high efficiency furnaces. We call them ninety percent plus furnaces and the industry calls condensing furnaces, and what they do is they condensed the steam that usually goes up the chimney and create turn it back in the water and grab that heat, basically. And so there's always water involved with high efficiency, furnaces, Gary. Okay. You're with us. What's up? Okay. And right worthy. It comes out of the furnace goes up about four or five inches elbow. Right. And then it goes off the wall, right? Where it connects. And I just caught the three whichever. Mccarthy is Pat, and it was a topic was ripping right at the bottom. You know? And I'm just wondering if I just hold off on that spring when I don't eat the furnace anymore or should. I put some telecom talking right on the outside of that though. Okay. You're talking about. That two inch white PVC pipe. Yeah. The soft one. Yeah. Okay. But it's nine dripping into the furnace housing earnings stripping, right? Whereas all right on top my top. You can get away with Latin echo a little bit. The only real way to fix it is to cut that piping apart and replaced trying to figure out which joint leaking. I know which one it is. I got that down. It is it actually loose. Can you actually kind of always not Louis? Watch your kiss crypt. When the baby is running for a long period or something like that. I mean, it was. April. All day long long. It's to work and the paper towel was wet. But it never broke through. Okay. So it's a little tiny drip, isn't that? It's a condensing furnace. So that it's warm moist air going out that white pike as long as it's not getting all the way back into the furnace housing short. You could let that go that's gonna make a big difference. And as long as it's secure I seen aware there dripping in the pipe. You're just falling apart. Well, that's not a good thing. You want to get back but in Europe search results. So I mean in your case, you could try to use a little cock joint. And if you can get it to stop great with that little bit of a leak, you can let that go for a while. Okay. All right. Does it stop? I just thought it was my top. Just two weeks beforehand. Right. All right. Good. That in furnaces are working and working hard at seven forty. We will break we will be back in a mortgage talk and text line four one four seven nine nine one six twenty.

News sixty three degrees I today's going to be seventy seven seven seventeen months, Danny Clayton Tom Faiza is here and we heading. To Menominee falls on the fix it show hey Paula Good, morning We have some phony, foundation problems and we've had a couple interviews with companies It's getting a little overwhelming Sorting. Through what each are proposing one wall is just under two inches ones around. One and a half inches the other two are like three eighths of an inch Haina. Hovering. At a half inch okay What we're basically interested in it's a huge investment we don't want to shortchange. Ourselves and not do a good job what we're interested in is your thoughts. And opinions some are talking the one while we do realize happy has to be dug. Out You're talking about the braces Talking about digging out. Partial big outs and waterproofing some aren't talking about. Getting out and doing waterproofing we haven't had interview or estimates yet from another company that does something very different with and you probably know what I'm talking about the they have like police on the outside. And like pulled the, wall so like, I said we're kinda overwhelmed we'd sure like. Your opinion and your thoughts And what you think this topic well I think the best thing to do because we're talking a huge expensive you dig an wall that's ten twelve grand for that wall you're probably. Talking to thirty thousand, twenty thousand dollars, something like that total here in the neighborhood So that's a huge. Expense I would have an independent, person looked at the basement. For a few hundred bucks and then have them, do designed for. You and then get pricing And then you're gonna be assured you'll have an independent opinion on your thirty thousand dollar purchase so someone like Chuck Weber W. e. b. e. r. Chuck Weber or Mike shaded s.. H. a. d. I d They're independent contractors in going to give an independent evaluation. I do that kind of work also from time to time and you're in Menominee falls so you're Klay area there's lots of bad basements Manami falls it's. A real it's a real got a nineteen fifties house and you're salt you're on Manami. Avenue someplace No actually I'm our house, is probably about. Forty five years old okay For north of Menominee avenue? Okay, you, actually did our sexual and we bought our house at. All All video autograph it he didn't but we were very very impressive So something must, have changed since then, but anyway So why would get an independent person will? Look at that like Chuck Weber Mike shaded in it's hard to give it too much advice over the radio waves because I can't see physically what. You got on your talking, to inches, a displacement. You're talking about excavation talking three? Eighths half inch it depends what kind of displacement what kind of cracking you may not have to. Do anything too much with those except the braces there's a variety of things they should be talking. About checking the drain towel system that's. Working properly that would be one of the standards you could, also look on the website for what's called ramp. Which is we had those guys on last weekend it's, it's a basically kind of a. Better. Business Bureau better basement bureau of this area yeah so it's. W. a. f. r., p. r. p. dot com so Wisconsin. Association foundation Repair professionals in you'll actually. Find standards there for basic repairs are the correct way to do you know standards here's what you. Need to do at the wall looks. Like this and it's it it gets a little complicated and, it's a little tough reading but gives you a. Couple of good ideas but have an independent person take, a look at it and it's. Got. The problem it's intended to be complicated but that would be. My vice on it Just repeats initials that organization again sure I don't blame you w. a. f. as in Frank r.. P. a. f. r. p. dot com Mike's last name again shattered s. h. a. d. I. D Okay and they would be in the yellow pages Yeah you may? Have. To Google yellow pages now what are those They may not be.
