A name that has come up to me a lot. Big question in my mailbag this week was about Wes Welker. And if there's any chance that the Patriots Welker currently is the wide receiver's coach for the San Francisco forty-niners and if there's any chance you could see a Bill Belichick calling up one of his old players and bringing him here, I don't think to be fair that it has ended. It ended quite on a great note with Wes Welker, right? It's tenure. The free agency, the Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola of it. I don't necessarily think that there's a ton of love between Welker and Bill at this point. Well, let's not forget the Welker came back and he was around training camp wearing that Tom Brady mask during deflategate. Yeah, it's an interesting one. I don't know if how ready is Welker, where was he in that chain of command because Mike mcdaniel obviously had a very big role. So how much was Welker doing like that to me is the problem with the internal candidates. I want somebody with a little more experience. Somebody who's called plays in the NFL before, probably somebody more quarterback focused too. So I think Wes is a good coach. I mean, you look at what he's done with the guy like depot Samuels, the wide receivers coach out there. I just don't like, look, I'd rather than Adam gay, certainly. I just don't think that Wes Welker's necessarily the best fit in this spot. If it's like three or four years from now and max a little more of a veteran and maybe west has done some play calling out there in San Francisco, I could see it a little bit more. I just think that the time is not right on either side right now. To me, what's the difference between bringing west Welker here to be The O.C. or play caller in promoting Troy Brown to the same right? Yeah. I would just go with Troy Brown. Right, Trey brown's been here, Troy brown's been on the staff. He's studied under Josh McDaniels and learned from Josh McDaniels directly. It seems to me like that would be basically the same thing. You're just bringing back a former wide receiver who was a great player here and trying to fill a void there as the same way that I think Troy Brown would be able to do it. All right, let's wait. There's a really good question there in the chat from Mike Larry. Is the Patriots offensive coordinator job attractive to begin with? Okay. We can see that. I just think that's a really interesting question because I think the upside is tremendous. I mean, Josh McDaniels just got a head coach and job, right? But you're going to have to do a lot. You know, you're kind of hitching your wagon to Mac Jones and a unit that has a lot of room to improve. And I think for I think it depends on the coach..

Last week against the bills at buffalo, their first half of offense was one of the if not the worst first half offensive displays I've seen in NFL history. Just your quick take a lot of crappy, you've seen a lot of crappy animals. I've seen a lot of crappy NFL football and I'll tell you this one takes the cake last week. You're quick like one minute breakdown of Houston if you have one. I don't have much, I am interested in a little reunion with the expatriates, many of whom. I think it's 18,000 and then 7001st responders, healthcare workers. I believe with the numbers so you'll get a you don't feel like the fans in the stadium. How many? How much of a home game? Do you think this is going to feel like John? Uh, I think it'll feel like when I mean, you know, I don't know that if I'm sure they'll be Chiefs fans here too Sure, Players after playing on season in the kind of stadiums that they played in anything's gonna feel just like more like noise than anything. Probably so It'll be interesting to see how they adjust. I don't think it'll be like such a home field advantage that the cheeks for some type of a of a disadvantage percent, but I think it'll more than anything. Oh, very confident that they can. There's no doubt Yeah, I mean, this this team when they play their best football, they really they let some people you know, But the problem, though they're concerned for them is really four quarters and they do it for four quarters. And when they do something, while you saw the Packers game first after me if they continue to play like that, and you see they moved the ball in the second half. All their turnovers were deepened Backers territory, They moved the ball that just made these mistakes and usually doesn't turnovers. Well, these are strong passes or you know where they have some really serious play calling or it's one of those things. Usually they get them. You know, they started the game against the Chiefs back, and we 12 And they actually ended up playing pretty well offensively in that game, But the beginning of the game was just terrible. A couple drops. Guy's not looking for the ball in hot routes when there's pressure, you know, guys, not really seeing it. It was just kind of a disjointed now that is really changed since the bye week. There's been way less of those moments. And that's why they won three games. The glass that gives you a lot of hope for sure. I don't know if they put a completely behind him. You know that Packers game was another one like, Oh, man, come on, like You thought this stuff was behind you, But the way their defense explain lately gives you a lot of hope that the offense in still go through a little bit of one of those stretches, and they could survive. But the Chiefs are another animal, too. So you really can't afford to not be on their best game today for sure. Let's talk about Tom Brady for a second. Danny Amendola, the longtime Patriot, and I guess he's been with some other teams to wide receiver. He Said this past week in the media that the Patriot Ways not Bill Bell, Check the picture Waste. Tom Brady, Tom Brady goes the Tampa A talented team, you guys that the Bucks had last year, but certainly things changed. Did Tom Brady bring the Tom Brady way to the Bucks? Is that what we're seeing right now? I've been to a degree. Certainly, I mean, this is a very talented roster that really needed competent quarterback play to make the playoffs. Probably. I don't know what the record would have been, but I think They could have made the playoffs, just competent quarterback play. And when they got elite quarterback play that put him really an end to the Super Bowl conversation, and Jason Light has done an unbelievable job building this rosters through the draft and free agency. There was a lot of players ready to peek or break out this season or played much better, much improved football this season and that that's certainly happened for most of them. They've been able to, for the most part, stay healthy and even getting a guy like Peter Vader back has been used All of those things play factors. There's no question, but yeah, the difference. I mean, if you're asking me if they got any other quarterback that was available last offseason other than Tom Brady, would they be in the Super Bowl? Definitely not, You know, so he is the most important part of everything that they've done for sure. But I do think that this roster is a very good one and red, really competent quarterbacking would have probably put him in the playoffs. But the fact that Brady's been as good as he's been in his first year in a system that by the way Is just incredibly difficult for quarterback. This is not a schemed up easy stuff for quarterbacks offense Lot. There's like where little play action. There's no R pos. They're just very little automatic completion. And he is commented, just bawled out, and it's been the unbelievable to watch and John I gotta be honest during the during the you know the middle of the season, and I thought they would make the playoffs. I thought I thought they win 10 games. I didn't think beginning the season they'd be in the Super Bowl, but during the season There was the one after the one game where Bruce Arians came out and said that Tom this the Reed at believers, one interception, and Tom doesn't necessarily like when people are coming out. The coaches. He's not used to belt check. Never says anything in the media. He didn't actually seemed all that all that, please. And it seemed at the time it was like, Oh, yeah, This isn't gonna work with radiant and arians was that overblown at the time, and are you surprised by going back to that moment that they are where they are right now? Yeah, definitely overblown. I mean, again, like I think you're right belt. It doesn't say things in the media. But I mean terms the way coaches players he's he's about as tough one years of death, So I don't think there was anything new to Tom Brady at all. I I really Honestly, genuinely don't think he cared or noticed or thought about it. It just didn't matter to him at all. Didn't even register. Um, you know, he's hard on themselves. Anybody so I mean, like he he wants to be coached. Often. Arians has said that all season want to and by the way, are just complimented, if all season long too, But people kind of all the reactor, he says. You know, you missed the booster armistice reading. The area is what I like about him. It was great about covering them honestly is that he answers questions. Honestly doesn't sugarcoat things or say we're on the Cincinnati or anything like that, like he actually answers questions in any respect the fact that media of a job to do so he's Of this as much information as he can s O actually really appreciate about him. And LeBron says something back calls him an old steroid ass, which is all types of perfect. And then The wife in this case, the girlfriend who's again 25 years old. We know this because she then takes to social media after the game and spouts off about, LeBron says. You're gonna let a 25 year old. Get under your skin or something like that. So this is the case in point about the situation. Videos and the enhanced audio shows LeBron not saying anything to the woman. He's just talking about the guy and it's not even anything all that crazy. Besides, like, sit down, shut up and old crazy ass or something like that are old steroid ass, and he's kind of laughing as they get Called away. So I don't really see any evidence right now that LeBron went overboard in His trash talk back to the fans. And in this case, I have to say I'm not ever going to defend the fan. "Who is the guy of the active coaches I'm talking about. Clearly, we know in history where Nick Saban does stand. But when you were talking about the best coaches in the sport when Urban Meyer was still coaching before he retired in air quotes because you know, he was never done with that. The guy that was always after Nick Saban was urban Meyer. That was the conversation because of the longevity. The success. Multiple stops that Nick Saban and you know what I should be Urban Meyer had That was always where people compared each other. Who's the better coach? Saving her is admire. Personally, I think it's saving. But if you are in the camp of Urban Meyer, you may be able to look at this. If this move does end up resulting in a Super Bowl or ends up, resulting in a success. That is something that urban Meyer could put a little feather in his cap. What you get in this game of Pettiness and splitting hairs. People could look at her. But Meyer and say Wow, when he went to the NFL, he had success and look at the situation. He's walking into. No people gonna say all Jacksonville miserable place. They had a lot of success together at Stanford, and Sherman was originally wide receiver then flipped over the cornerback, and they had a bunch of back and forth and look at that played out in the NFL stage when Jim Harbaugh was with the 40 Niners. When I just look at that roster, though. Right now you got a few defensive pieces that you could work with. But more so on the offensive side of the ball. Yes. I think you need another wide receiver.
