What it does is inflicts a lot of self doubt on the opponent where they're like oh shoot like to me like them they're really becoming self conscious about not doing stuff in it gets them off their game plan so when mangoes really on point he's really showing that he's in your head and then it's really hard to beat that because you're second guessing everyone in your decisions at that point I see so it's almost like a chess game you're trying to prove that you're thinking ahead more than the person exactly okay we're GonNa take a quick break but we'll be right back with more from Danieli.

"Are pretty efficient. One receives they hire reward for taking on additional risk to extent that stocks are. Riskier than bonds in the future. We one could reasonably expect and demand a higher rate of return in an efficient Mark, thus equity investors should generally continued to trust the process. If the goal is a higher rate of return while you also do have to accept volatility. But what if one not only wanted to invest in stocks, but you wanna be like Warren Buffett and try to beat the stock market Alcan you go about trying to achieve this goal weeks? This so example too of reasonable processes is trying to beat the benchmark. So once one decides to invest in stocks are true approaches invest passively in the market cap weighted portfolio or Secondly attempt to beat the benchmark, Jeff invest passively, this can be done very cheaply using mutual funds and ETS the charge, very low management fees to almost Eur nowadays for those that attempt a strategy to beat the benchmark, they can do this. However, in two ways you can make your own stock selection or you can use ETS or mutual funds that have some strategy, but the goal here is actually pretty simple invest in stocks, while attempting to beat the bench now given that this is the goal is there a process, our second step that we can follow in an attempt to be the benchmark. So we're going to start with the assumption, which I think is accurate that just randomly picking stocks is a bad idea. So at that baseline is. Let's turn to the evidence in the past what systematic strategies have been shown to work. So after reading the journals in the nineteen nineties, you can come away with the conclusion that a few strategies worked in the past I is value investing, which is purchasing stocks that are cheaper on some measure, such as the price of the stock divided by its earnings, the P E ratio. The second is momentum investing purchasing stocks that had done the best over the past year, while exent winning Zam, the total return over the past year. This is standard momentum portfolio, then you say okay peers to work. What is the actual evidence? And again, I'm gonna plot the returns to top and bottom Dessel, sorted on value or momentum from nineteen twenty seven to twenty seventeen. This date is taken from Ken French's website. And so we're going to look at five four folios the market, just S and P five hundred value, which are the cheap stocks rebound annually growth. Which are the expensive stocks. Rebalance Danieli, the fourth and fifth portfolios are high and Lohman high momentum is basically the top Dessel affirms ranked every month on the past, total returns over the past twelve months in ignoring last month low momentum. These are the losing socks. They had the worst returns over the past year and what you notice is over this ninety year time period. Nineteen twenty seven to twenty seventeen. "Com. Just use the keyword mom show Cassandra. So glad you're here because we get to discuss some of these things why people are at the beginning of their tax journey. So if you have any questions that you like, okay before I get all of the paperwork out, and I get a little Manolas folder out. Start looking at all these pieces of paper you can call today. Or are you grab a glass of wine? That is you. Just flash forward. My basement office. That's exactly what I did. So if you have any questions, we all need some help, but it's tax time five one six four hundred what does seven one that is the number for the mob show, if you have any questions, and that I made sure it was a wise pitcher though, because I don't want to be. Exactly exactly the refund. I wanted to be. But I wanted to also eventually get audited. That can I ask that question. I feel like that's one of those things that we use the word audit or we hear audit, and we get panicked. But what's the likelihood of me getting audited? What are those things really like how often does that happen breath? The the likelihood of that is probably very well. Okay. Maybe a little more. So the if you are a small business owner, and you know, your expenses are are some large numbers that you know, that could bring it up, but but most of the time where people are receiving IRS notices or letters. It's more of a correspondence where the IRS received like a ten ninety nine and it wasn't reported return. It's not a full blown audit. Now. Let's also remind people because I think that there are so many things that are going to overlap during this conversation Cassandra and brat because there's lots of things like you just said. What an example of the kind of correspondence that you will get from the IRS. And I know that we've talked on previous shows Cassandra about all of the tax scams. Kind of interaction that you can get so Brent as you said, you would get an official letter from the IRS they're not gonna call you and like a robo-call or any of that stuff and say come down to the courthouse right now. Give us money. Exactly. Yeah. You'll never see a phone call or an Email from the IRS. Okay. Unless you've already had a previous correspondence with them in regards. Okay. So if anybody calls you and says come down and give us a visa gift card or you after wires this money getting scam. Hang up, hang up and don't worry about it. I just want to touch on that real quick before we get into the changes because they were talking about last year. One of the biggest scams was that someone would have somehow filed your tax return. You're actual with your social security number your name gotten you a refund. Right. And then you would say why didn't even file yet. And they would say, oh that was a mistake. Someone would reach out to you. Then in say, send us the money back. Right. You'd think. Okay. Yeah. 'cause I didn't I didn't file yet. But that was the scam. That's how they got the money because the money got sent to you than they would say, oh, we need it back. It was a mistake. Right. So that's not going to happen. I mean, you you're not gonna get sent to check. No that absolutely. Danieli said you twelve thousand dollars. And so don't think that you have to wire anything that's not how any of those things work, even if you do actually oh taxes. There's a process there's a way that it all gets printed out. So, you know, those extra things like when you as a CPA do my taxes. Brent what do I need to bring you what I mean? What's the basics that I've made to make sure I didn't accidentally throw away. Different from how you would have gotten ready to do your taxes last year when you're putting all the papers together. Sure. Nothing's really changed in regards to you know, what you need to assemble together. You know, they talk about this as this. Huge tax lodge change in impact. But there's really no change to what you need to gather. You're still gathering any documents that you receive. Ten ninety nine.

"You're listening to KNX in-depth with Mike Simpson. I'm Charles felt Megan Kelly's comments about black face wearing it's maybe isn't racist. If it's Halloween. The controversy the apology we turn to that. Now. Here's the comment. She said on her Tuesday show. Because you do get in trouble. If you are awake person who puts on or a black person who puts on white Fiala. We'd like when I was a kid that was okay. As long as you addressing character. Well, Kelly's history is kind of important here. Because while she was still on FOX. She argued that both Jesus Christ and Santa Claus had to be white men. Well, here's quickly condemned across much of the media landscape for her black face comments, including by many of her own NBC colleagues, and she quickly apologized dedicating all of her show today to addressing the controversy with us now to very prominent writers, April rain is an attorney and activist and the creator of the Oscars so white movement and terrain writes for Rolling Stone, the New Yorker time and many more. He also hosts is very own podcasts podcast. Trey let me start with you. You you heard I presume. Begins apology. Her explanation is at the end of it. Should it be the end of it? Well, no, it's not the end of it. Because it's a moment up stunning blindness. And it's also sort of a note to black people when we mentioned these issues publicly some white people come out and say, oh, jeez. You're matching again, it will clearly there are some white people who claim to have not gotten the message. But part of my by continuing problem with Megan's presentation on this which is right at the top of her apology is baked into her explanation yesterday. She keeps making a both sides is argument here she keeps saying black people should use white face and white people shouldn't use black face. Those two things have nothing to do with each other and different morals universes. There. History of black people using white face to demean white people white culture black face is part of the perpetuation of white supremacy and the denigration of blackness and black people, and it's almost every single year. We see a white person sort of being like a Taurus into blackness thing. I'm going for Halloween as a black person as if we are a fun density, scary identity that you can have it at will the other direction is really not happening. And it's not part of the problem. And it underlines a little understanding. She actually blames the issue which keeps tying those things together. What the problem is actually black face, and by the way, Megan Kelly, and I are the vaccine age when I young black face dot cool. So I don't know what mythical time when I was younger person gaffe things. Were different April. Let me ask you about the apology and based on what we had mentioned before. After the Jesus was wise kids Santa was white when when she says something and then issues an apology the same day or the next day. Does that take out of it? I mean, do you believe the apology at this point? I absolutely don't believe the apology there. Couple of things going on here. First of all making one is to say that she had no idea why was an issue. And yet there is a tweet from her in two thousand sixteen in which she indicates that she knows that black face to the problem. So here we are two years later and see is pretending is feigning. Ignorance here the apology was hollow. Because it wasn't made initially. It was made internally. Right. Just to her colleagues at NBC. And then they were backlash about that. And then so she decided to make the apology, and it sounded much of it word for word, not even Danieli new words, but you know, the same. Email held almost as if she was reading it on air, but she never addressed directly her actual colleagues. We're put in a really horrible situation. Not only having to explain to her what the issue was that she should know in her mid to late forties. Right. But also that they were able to express to her how painful it was. And so for them to have to sort of hold her hand and carry her into the twenty first century. It's not something that they should have had done. I'll Roker and Craig Melvin spoke about the issue today on TV, and they were bombarded with people who are very bigoted, very, you know, unfortunate saying horrible things to them. When in fact, it was Megan who did something wrong here. So the apology needs to be followed up with action. Otherwise, the words are hollow. Okay. I'm glad you mentioned with action because I wanted to throw this question out to both you April and also you've Turay, so let's presume for the sake of this discussion that Megan is a maybe she's a racist. Maybe she's stupid. Maybe she's a stupid racist. What's supposed to happen? Now, if she's supposed to be fired he's supposed to learn from some her path actions. You know, I would suggest that Megan is had cerebral bite at the apple here. This is not the first time that she has food out. And let's remember that NBC fires to is seeing black journalists to make way for her and her ratings are not good. So just on that base it on that one must wonder why is it Andy lack lacking NBC still keep her on but seen to learn from this experience because it appears that she hasn't learned from all the previous experiences. So what readings are you going to do who? Are you going to talk to you? How are you going to make this better? How are you going to show up? Then in fact, you do care about this issue and. This isn't just a one off. And and we'll be here a year from now talking about something else and making you know, another way to Megan Kelly has put her foot in her mouth. Okay. Tereza you before we run out of time. What do you think should should happen action wise? I mean, a APRIL's right that the the ratings have not equal up to the contract. So, you know, she's far underperforming the amount that she's taking out of the company. But it seems that she, you know, she. Hitting underneath her weight. If they would say it punching beneath her weight, they would say in boxing. So at certain point that doesn't make it doesn't make economic sense. But you know, it seems that she forgot that she wasn't at FOX anymore because it FOX that sort of comment goes over very, well, it's very victim. Ian, blaming both sides, and like she's getting a little undercurrent of this PC culture. Can't do anything like, and, you know, at FOX that would be applauded that NBC that is horrify we that whole spectacle, you know, the three people who were on the second with her where zero helped to her as well because they disagreed with her. But none of them had the language or tools to explain why. So the whole segment with a train wreck. Yeah. Is sitting there in real time plan out. Okay. To Ray rents Rolling Stone New Yorker time, many more we all serve from April. Rain attorney and activist creator of the oscarssowhite movement. "As Mitchell is saying, the undocumented labor force in this economy is really economically significant, but also not often heard from author and illustrator Dunkin te'o himself, a Mexican American citizen who grew up on both sides of the border is trying to tell the story of some of those people in a picture book. One meant more grownups though not for kids, it's called undocumented woman the program. Thank you for having me. Give me the, I guess if this was a conventional book, I take the jacket blurb on this thing. Give me the very quick story on this thing. Would you? Well, it's an elevated book that tells the story of an indigenous man from his village and Mexico coming to the US without documents and working as a busboy, but then realizing that he's being exploited and taking advantage of in deciding to organize the people at his restaurant and his community to try and get better working conditions at at his job. The art is super cool in the format is really cool as well. It's one of those with with. And that's why the book full out like the artwork that the mixed issues to make hundreds of years ago, undocumented immigrants are off in in the news, but we don't hear so much about the exploitation and how poorly paid. And I thought it was important to talk about that aspect of it. Well, yeah, it's the idea that was happening on the border now is getting all the press, but there isn't undocumented workforce inside this country already. That plays a role in this economy. Yeah, definitely. I think sometimes people are quick to talk about no people breaking in and coming in without documents. But at the same time, I think people are happy to hire someone. And pay less than what they should because they don't have the proper documents whether that is saying, you know, in farming and construction as a nanny Esa landscaper. There's millions of people working and being paid less than than what they should or not having access to sick days or to overtime or to all other sorts of things that we take for granted. I wonder if it's easier to address some of these tough issues right on a lot of levels in in the graphic format, right? Because you can make it more relatable, I think. So, you know, I really wanted to think, you know, sometimes when when we talk about immigration and the undocumented embarrass Strack terms not until about the economy, it's all about number since the tip. And I think we don't often hear the voices of people that are actually just trying to make a living. And you know me being a dual citizen, it's very easy for me to enter and exit the US, but I just thought it was important for someone to try and share some of those stories.
