Essential Practices of Successful Couples with Certified Marriage Experts Howard and Danielle Taylor
"We got off the line. Everybody howard and daniel taylor. They are certified marriage experts and during covid nineteen. I'm gonna tell you personally. Y'all i feel more in love with my wife being in saying i really right. I really appreciate it. You know what. I'm saying. Like we know like i really like you i can. I can agree with you more. I think we always say that cova magnified more which were so. There was some healthy couples. who are who got a chance to connect even more right. And then there was couples who had resentment and it strikes dormant that magnified even more right. and so. that's that's a great testimony to where relationship already. What so what do y'all think about people breaking of okay. I'm driving around the city. And i'm seeing all these signs on light post ninety nine dollar divorces so people will try to get rid of each other and is is there a way to turn this tide around you find out. I've been stuck in the house with you. But i really don't like you. I'll do all. I even risk catching covid. Nineteen just to get out of the house. Because i don't say people are really desperate. Now people i'd ever anneli desperate to to get out. I think it's important to really take the time to realize what you have in your house to really take the second step back to appreciate what they bring to the to the table to look at things from a bigger linda. This is a temporary season. And even though there may be things being uncovered that we may not like about. It doesn't mean time to like run for the door right now. It's time to kind of buckle down and work out okay. what is it that i need from you. What do you need from me. And how can we make that happen peacefully so that it doesn't have to evolve into a divorce. How do you bring people's minds back together. That first time that i saw you fell in love with you been now you know things are just different man. I love it. You know back to the fundamentals we authored a book called the fundamentals of marriage it and sometimes people get so fancy with their skill set or the desire to hope or need that they they put aside the things that originally brought them together that originally allowed them to fall in love. The fundamentals are not any any entity strong. and we we believe that there's five Things that couples could do to reconnected in the new year. Right that you have to do and take attention to reconnect and we would love to share those. Okay well please go ready in the first practical one has the house has become a monotonous place. Because we're there all the time right you know we're we're we. It's an elementary school. If your parents it's office it's it's it's everything and and so on. I've been attention all of our redefining. Our home space. One of the things that we say i. If you should do is plant after our spa offs on nights right after the kids. This lee go online. You don't have to have any money to take to to figure out how to give a great massage to figure out how to do a fantastic bubble bath to amazon with the little bit of money orders to massage oil in there. If you're saved we maybe use olive oil. If you of the plan your so after our spun nights beat a in do it. In a specific place consistently to be able to redefine a spades or room in your house so that the house itself isn't so monotonous it allows you and your husband or wife reconnect in a way that maybe you weren't doing prior to Cove in nineteen okay. Another idea is to take an online class of mutual injuries. So you mentioned earlier and howard as well about now. During the pandemic people losing their jobs and not necessarily having the finances you could pull up youtube right from your computer possibly cast into your tv and learn something new together whether it's the second language or cooking or a dance class when howard and i got married we took the damn class like a professional dance studios. We can get right. You know i i. Yeah but pulling that back out because we actually did this. We pulled it back out. The the cha-cha together and it was so much fun. Just being silly you know dancing together just reminded us when we first got together the excitement and the fun and so. That's something that people can do that fun to learn something new at the same time and cost effective right so cooking cooking as well. You know you can get into kitchen. Recreate your your favorite dish right. That's the third one you're right. You're right in there in many counties in many states you can't you no longer keep dying in. You have to take their food back home day on. I thought it would be a great connection. Experience to recreate our favorite meals from our favorite restaurant right and and and we make again. This is about connecting reservations for two. So if you have children or extended family that live in a house. This is not a male for them If they smell with the cook and tell them that they're going to be a bad by the time. This resume and recreate favors meal and bring it into your also this this. This brings the restaurant experience again. Back to your home. He create a really fun rejuvenated.

"Is emotional lives on March nineteenth twenty twenty Orenstein talk to writer Daniel handler about the culmination of this research her newest book poison sacs young men on hook ups love porn consent and navigating the new masculinity the two spoke via video conference under orders to shelter in place during the covert nineteen pandemic join us now for a conversation with Peggy Orenstein and Daniel handler good evening this is Daniel Taylor filling in here at the arts and lectures during a bizarre and unprecedented time in not only in our nation's history but in the grand history if they are support services thank you folks who are watching and coming out particularly as we arm struggle through the technological substitution that we're doing within a small organization I'm guessing consisting entirely one hundred percent of English majors so okay but I am here in my office in San Francisco and I'm thrilled thrilled thrilled to be talking to Peggy Orenstein whose across the bay which was one seems super reachable but is now right we will place spoke about her new book boys and sex which I happen to have here she and I am conversant city arts and lectures before where supposedly the topic was my novel all the dirty parts which is about boys and sex so I'm not entirely startling choice for an interviewer and I'm super happy to be here please welcome Peggy Orenstein holds for applause so hard thanks for calling all the audience distract you I wanted I write in my excited about this back and you start the book exactly where I want to start the interview and where my brain was already going which is that you have really become kind of an expert on girl alter in different aspects of global problem femininity here in the last of twenty first century and when you tell the story of how you kind of decided to start talking about boys yeah I mean it wasn't it wasn't my intent right it was not something on my to do list I've been reading about girls for twenty five years and as I went around the country after publishing girls insects every place that I went people you know parents girls boys themselves and say when you know what about fall is when you can write about boys and I'm very I think that's kind of somebody else's job it's not really my thing but the fact was nobody was talking to boys or listening to voice on these issues and the more I thought about it the more I felt like well I did know the terrain you know I had it the social culture of young people so I started kind of talking to guys and as I was doing interviews the me too movement started yeah only everybody was really paying attention to boys and the parents who kind of you say to me when I would talk about my work with girls they would say you know like kind of really grateful I have a son they were saying that anymore yeah and in it but it's it but it's struck me that along with this imperative to reduce sexual violence we also had this opportunity I had this opportunity to really engage young man in conversation about sex and intimacy and gender and a new way because they were thinking about it too right right but I want to get to the million gazillion topics that you talk about a book but I'm also really confused curious about your methodology because I'm out of girls and sex you are talking to a relatively small group of people what's got you criticism but I always thought thing is that you went deep thank you there was no fraud survey all the females you can handle the similarly is not kind of all you're not talking to all the boys in the world but so did you find as you interviewed young man but there were some that seem kind of problematic for you or did the the kind of structure of the book and the categories of the book come from all the interviews the retiring yeah I mean it's really interesting to do this kind of work and and you're right I mean I take that I'm a journalist so I take a sample of young people that I get all different ways from there's always like a designated school teacher in high school I got a lot of I get a lot of kids to designate a cool teacher so I had a lot of who's really actually I'm with the teacher make the announcement or the teacher chooses it could very and and and then I speak a lot of colleges so I would also in that case there would be like a sort of wide broadcast of that I was looking for what struck you but what was interesting in terms of the boys was that it was actually a lot easier to find boys than girls which surprised me and I think I mean part of it was that I was a known quantity because I'd written girls and sex already but also part of that was that I mean especially I didn't if I didn't get my subjects through their parents because I didn't seem like a great Honda what to me in terms of just like where I was positioned with with right okay but I mean whenever I would speak somewhere and I would mention I was doing a book on boys I I felt like people were fleeing voice at me honestly and and and I imagine that there's a yeah it's raining it's raining men and and I and I think was greatly because they were sort of hoping that in addition to interviewing I might like informer educate their boys so we were you know they were like what is going on in my son's house please find out what's going on at sunset so I think that there was a lot of that invoice themselves if they heard like on a podcast or radio programmers are something I mentioned I was writing a book on board they would email me and say I want to talk to you so it was interesting just how I I was surprised because I I had really thought it would be hard to find boards and and it wasn't and and so you know that there's the boys and then there's also the undergirding all of the you know but Julian months I spend reading all the research and and start crossing that is part of it too not forgot your question what well it was about finding them yeah so that was and all kinds of different ways and and then the the other thing that's interesting about doing this kind of journalism is that I don't go out with an agenda so I don't and this is true the girl book to you know when it when I started to grow but I just kind of felt like nobody was really reading about girls and sex and I had kind of touched on it in my first book school girls and I had kind of touched on it in Cinderella ate my daughter but I always had my head maybe wanted to write more about that and I don't know maybe there's something out there to say and so I just kind of went out and started you know interviewing people and seeing what happens and see what seems come out of that and and that was the same that was true the boy but so in some ways it's a really as a journalist a very insecure feeling because you don't you know you think like I think there's something there but right now I know what it is so let's go find out so it's it's a real journey for me to do you suspect that big it was so easy to find boys because this subject matter is as you say a little talk about it in many ways yeah or do you think that there was some I mean part of what you talk about in this is that what you've talked about your books back girl is this kind of base line of confidence and untitled that young men feel that I've got I'd certainly like to be a long time to be aware of when I was a young man you know like if someone said like Hey we're doing a thing I feel like I can totally do that thing no matter what the thing was do you think that's why so many young men reached out or I don't know I'm I mean I think it was more that with the guys who reached out I think they had a storage hall and and usually when people boys or girls when I would talk to them somewhere it was kind of a matter of trying to find the story that they wanted to tell me so like one of the guys in the book was in the chapter on **** we were you know chatting about this and that the interview was fine but it wasn't really that interested in trusting and then he pulled out a flip phone and I said huh why have a flip phone not a smartphone mmhm and he said what he told me this thing about well you know I I want to be more present and you know I I I a friend of mine did it is really interesting and and and then he said I'm you know also it keeps me from looking at porn and I kind of went wait what and that opened a whole discussion of right now him and who and I know we'll get to that later but you know sometimes it was like a little thing that that you would see or talk about that with suddenly reveal the story that they wanted to tell and and and I and I must say earlier I didn't that I think that the biggest surprise of all of this really you know I think the other thing that I was really worried about that really scared me was that I thought voice one talk and I thought I would have like whole transcripts that consisted of you know I don't think you know that sort of thing yeah but they were really they really did want to talk and they were super insightful narrators of their experience which I also didn't expect it again I really think and this goes back to a point that it's because nobody ever asks them yeah nobody ever talks to them nobody ever asked him nobody wants to know what they have to say or nobody thinks that they can say what they want to say and and I gave them the opportunity and they really most of them not all of them in obviously but most of the guys that I interviewed really went for it yeah it's a that was certainly a very similar experience to when I was working my novel I'm a novel is going out to the world that there is a yeah the rest of us some since that is the thing it's that's been talked about so much like we're we're in a it feels like we're in a moment where when we're talking about sex and sexuality and sexual violence and social pressure and all kinds of things that we want to change in society here that it is also not time for to hear from Manchester how back hours and that's about just understand I know that I present I am I try to do that anyway without judgment but it yeah but we also need to know what's going on in order to you know raise boys the weather watch and I know that you have a son that.

"Camp show on David Ben camp that is got Robinson for Jamie Markley. Yep. New York City, banning funk containers, got the cops and more. Well, of course, why not? Can't do it anymore. You gotta get rid of that stuff. Foam, takeout, containers, foam cups, foam packing, peanuts. Yeah. Foam plates and bowls foam trays. No foam not allowed to do it. No. So here's one thinking. Okay. What are you thinking we go to the WalMart or we go someplace like that? And we load up on this stuff. We get a big old truck take the New York City and just stand on the street get our friend, Craig Collins. He knows some people who know some people, and he may be able to hook up sell it across the river, sell it in New Jersey Elvis sudden, we got ourselves a foam business going. I like it right to do it. Right. This is so stupid. It's one of those environmentalists thing. Now, like, they're banning plastic straws and other places packing. Peanuts can't have packing peanuts. Well, there I mean there are other alternatives, I suppose to tobacco feathers. Old newspaper that suppose that'll work. Yeah. You get old newspaper. You can get there. Like, the air mayor Bill de Blasio tweeted out for our planet spew. New York City is kicking off twenty nine thousand nine is a styrofoam Freetown. Woohoo. All right. Thank you. Bill. Sounds like a lot of fun. Yes. It does. I know. I know a few people in New York City that every time there is something like this. But can't have plastic straws. He can't have foam. Styrofoam goes away. Tomorrow is my life all that affected. No, not really no make the trains run on time and make Saturday Night Live funny again. Those are your mandates right for the next New York mayor. I like that. I think that those are some good New Year's resolutions there and speaking of the banning of things. Yes, let's talk about banning it led to a violent altercation. Saint Petersburg Florida earlier this week W W F L A reported that a fight broke out between a female McDonald's employee in a male customer in his viral video. I don't know if you've seen it. It's hilarious. Well, she kind of looks. But this guy identified as Daniel Taylor seen grabbing mean James by the shirt with both hands and pulling her toward him. She starts punching him as he holds on. They go at it for about twenty seconds before other employees, come over and help intervene. Taylor was escort it out of the restaurant. Police were called on his way out the door. He kicked another employee of the stunt. How my gosh how he's being arrested on two counts of battery. So what what set him off? Yeah. No kidding. Apparently. He was yelling at the employee's. Because there were no drinking straws out in the dining area right now. This is all because of a law that essentially will wind up banning it the city is going to ban plastic straws entirely by twenty twenty boy city voted do this December. But currently it does allow places to provide them to customers who asked for this draws specifically. So he didn't know any of that he didn't believe employee when she said we're not allowed. We don't we don't Stockton outside anymore. You can ask us for a plastic straw. He didn't believe her. So he lost his mind and started to try to attack her and she fights back. She punched him a few times one of her. I think it was her cousin talked the local news outlet. Who said, yeah, our family are boxers. I mean, her uncle was a professional boxer for a little while. And so she fought back and all this is this is what the ugly side of banning plastic straws. I'm just kidding on that, of course. Right. Throwing punches after plastic straws. Yeah. What is going on though? Because in the last few months, we've had some pretty big national stories about people who just go nuts when they don't get sauce packets or straws just yesterday. You were telling me about a story about a guy who going through the drive through of a Taco Bell opened fire because he didn't get as hot sauce. He wanted hot sauce. Remember that? Yeah. And then a few months before that another lady went nuts because McDonalds forgot to put ketchup in her bag, right? So she breaks into the restaurant. She'd one of the employees in a headlock. And now this crazy guy attacks because he doesn't have access to straws. Apparently, all you had to do was asked for it. Who knew?.
