Saints overcome deficit, bitter cold to beat Browns 17-10
"Up their division title hopes while eliminating the browns from playoff contention. 1710 in Cleveland, New Orleans trailed ten zero before winning the coldest game in team history. Alvin Kamara and Taysom Hill each had scoring runs for the 6 and 9 saints, combining for 132 yards rushing. Kamara's go ahead four yard scoring run was set up by Daniel Sorensen's 36 yard interception return. Deshaun Watson drove Cleveland to the saints 15 in the final minute, but he was sacked on fourth down with 19 seconds remaining.

"So the chiefs have to be better tacklers in this game, especially when Cincinnati throws the quick short pass or the wide receiver screens. They have to be able to tackle mixing in the flats when borough gets riveted of it when they inevitable pressure does hit. Those are parts of the field where they've struggled a little bit. They have young linebackers in gay and Bolton and sometimes you can beat them to the flat mentally. Now, spags wasn't really aggressive last week against buffalo. Coverage sat back some, obviously, that makes sense when tyron Matthew leaves after 7 snaps. And he's trotting out sneed as a safety rather than a corner, and he's got Daniel Sorensen back there and Armani watts, who is on a practice squad a couple weeks ago is getting starter snaps in the most critical junction of the season. So he only sent blitz 22% of the time last week. I would think with tyron Matthew in Rashad Fenton, both trending upwards. My feeling is we get back to normal with spags and that he's going to want to put the offensive line of the Bengals in conflict. And I think it's really smart even when spags isn't going to actually send pressure to at least impact a young quarterback like Joe burrow. Who seems to at this point struggle with some types of pressure. When you send like sim pressure, basically, you want to make a struggling offensive line. And a rowdy ass place like arrowhead be forced to communicate. So you're going to put 5 or 6 guys at the line, but only send your natural for. And if you look at sim pressure, it's actually what gives the bangles a line and offense the biggest trouble. 41% pressure it allowed when you show blitz and then back out of it. You know, you're going to want to use arrowhead to your advantage while also giving your secondary the best chance. And as great as burrow is, there are times where he holds onto the ball, he's trying to hunt the big play. All of those 9 sacks last week weren't on the offensive line, right? Like three or four of them were on Joe burrow. And I think that's really interesting to think about and how you want to send pressure. Sure, go Willy nilly a couple of times and bring some heat. But I also think if you kind of just crowd the line of scrimmage, that can give the Bengals some trouble as well. If you look at the Bengals, they've lost a 116 expected points on sax this season. It leads the league by a long while. It's not a metric you want to lead the ligand. Chris Jones, jeron Reed, they're going to have to win from the inside. We've outlined that all season when breaking down Bengals, games, Melvin Ingram. Has been a saving grace for the chief defense. He's got a dominated Isaiah prince. You just kind of wonder here. If what the Bengals did last time can actually be replicated. If you go back and watch the game, yes, there is a blown coverage in the second half by Daniel Sorensen. But if you actually look at the corner play chivalry's ward and Rashad Fenton were actually quite sticky in coverage. They weren't just getting crushed here. They weren't. They were just struggling to make plays on the ball. But if you look at T Higgins, he only created 1.9 yards of separation that game. Jamar chase, 2.8 yards of separation. Solid number, not elite. And just for context, like in week 17, Cooper Cup created 7.3 separation. The coverage was aside from the Sorensen bust was pretty sticky. They were just making out of the world type throws and catches. It was unbelievable. And then I sent you that clip Todd of the Bengal second touchdown. It's clear offensive pass interference by chess by Chase. He does a really good job. Veteran Seth kind of like, yes, kind of just nudging you off with the left and then creating some separation, catching. And that's fine. I have no problem with that. Let him play. But you can't call the ticket tax stuff on the chiefs corners and then let the Bengals receivers play like a WWE style match. You can't have that. The chiefs were called for four penalties that extended drives in week 17, 20 points came from those drive extending penalties, including the game winning field goal. When you look at penalty EPA, the bangles were aided by penalties at one of the highest rates in a singular game all season. Bill vinovich will be the lead official in this game. Now the cruise change a little bit. So even though he's the lead official, it's not going to be like the same exact crew. They put all of the best referees and ball them up into these crews. But which is, by the way, a dumb idea and I still don't like it. I think you grade like the continuity thing. Exactly, you grade the crews on what you've seen during the regular season. There's chemistry. There's familiarity for officials. This isn't baseball where I can place a guy behind home plate and they're all operating on their own island. I'd rather maintain that continuity and just great cruise on what you've seen during the regular season. Yeah, that makes complete sense. So his crew in general, Bill vinovich, they have actually called one of the lowest rates of defensive pass interference. So you would think that's going to allow the chiefs to play a little bit more physical with their corners. So my guess is since he isn't going to be aided at the rate they were in week 17. And that's scary. In my mind, for since you didn't have a chance at winning this has to be a shootout, there has to be some variance with some turnovers, because they're defense and getting many stops here. No, they're by all metrics going to have their hands full in this particular spot. And when you look at Cincinnati defensively, you know, they've played three quarterbacks so far this season pain and all of those games for the Bengals came at home. Patrick Mahomes and the chief song 31 albeit in a 34 31 loss, Justin Herbert and company came into the bangles building, scored 41 points, they were aided by a defensive score and Aaron Rodgers Earl in the year hung 25. So if you use elite quarterbacks in your own building as at least a floor, you figure Kansas City's getting to 28 minimum in this spot. And if they're pushed, they're going to have a much higher ceiling. You talked a little bit about Patrick Mahomes and how sharp he looked and when we recapped that chief's bills game. I mean, this is the kind of matchup where it's almost pick your poison and Kansas City for all.

"All right, this next one is from uncle Phil and boy, I like this one. Fumble out of the back of the end zone, which every time it happens, it becomes a huge cry for change across all the football Twitter. It doesn't happen a while. So we haven't talked about this since I feel like last January when it happened to was a Rashard Higgins who fumbled in the AFC divisional round Daniel Sorensen knocked it out. But the fumble out of the back of the end zone, the offense retains possession, but it is first and goal from the 15 and I like that a lot. Okay, so. All right, I could do that. If you move it, if you move it back to the, I'm not gonna try to be pedantic here, but like anything more than 15. Like even if you said 17, I'd be okay with that. But like 20, you know, every single from the 20. Okay, yeah, I could get down with that too because it similar to one of the proposals that you mentioned last week, Gary, you're basically lengthening the distance you need to go for a first down. So yeah, first in goal from the 15 seems fair. You get some penalty, but not the kind of game changing penalty that the fumble out the back of the end zone has been. Yes. It's a headache, but you're not giving the defense this huge reward for all they didn't recover when it was all said. Exactly. And this one, this one is true. I have not heard this one before. I have heard the reverse touchback where you bring it back to the 20 and go from there, but I've not heard the get it the 15, but you have to have to go score a touchdown now. Yeah, I think that's really smart. Being able to manipulate also the down and distance, right? Not just where the ball is at. Be pretty sweet if uncle Phil was like falcon CEO rich McKay, just trying to drop competition committee until the week said podcast, you know? Let's get it. Let's go. I mean, this Twitter account is it's at XF Y H and B CX. So good. Burner account. That's a McKay burner account if there ever was one. That's there's a 0% chance somebody willingly signed up to use those letters. Oh man, you know, I actually oftentimes use my name backwards for like random usernames. Edge, YN, and EJ. I started doing in high school as a joke. And so I don't know, maybe this is some concoction of the letters in his name. What is this spell in Roman numerals? I don't know. It's definitely like when you learn to spell like bad words on the calculator. Like, you know, this is what we're going to end up with. Yeah, definitely. All right, well, that actually does it for the reader ones. One rule that we get asked about quite a bit though that we didn't touch on last week is the spot and choose the ravens champion cause here to do over time with the spot and choose and I'll open the door..

"The league didn't think he was quite ready for coming into the league to me he is a very smart player on tape and there's a lot of evidence of that. Including that one, you know, boot action play that I think he had against the Chargers or I forget which team it was. But in any event, he's done a great job and I think with those two guys, it makes it hard to game plan for the Patriots, but I do think that all of this stuff as far as the pressure that they're generating, it'll be interesting to see how somebody like Frank Reich game plans against the Patriots once he sees them on film because some of this stuff is developed over time. This season, specifically like, you know, the secondary coverage is the zones and things like that. And there's more film on them now, where I think, you know, they basically switched. Everybody prepared for the Patriots coming into the season to be a man to man team. That's what they do. They probably figure stuff on Gilmore's coming back, what have you. And maybe some of the game plans that they had ready in the off season for the Patriots or at least pieces of it. No longer are applicable and it'll be interesting to see which teams make what adjustments down the stretch here. All right, so you brought up better teams and let's talk about better teams. Let's talk about ranking the top 5 AFC teams. Where we think these teams will finish by the end of the season, Greg, who is your number one team in the AFC by the end of the year. I think I'm gonna go with Kansas City until proven otherwise. I think that they've righted the ship a bit defend will not a bit a lot because they were off awful defensively. They have now wisely put Daniel Sorensen that terrible safety into more of a specialized role and taking them off the field because teams were just torturing that guy and I never understood that. And I'm not going to go overboard with their four game winning streak just like the Patriots and their 5 game winning streak. I mean, you know, they beat the Giants, they beat the packers of that Aaron Rodgers. The Raiders are sort of in a freefall a bit. You know, in the cowboys didn't have a bunch of guys. So I think the Kansas City Chiefs have been a little bit lucky themselves in terms of who they played, but they're on the bi week this week. They get rested. I don't think that they have an overly difficult schedule. Now let's stretch. Let's go over it quick. I'll just give you the games that's left on their schedule. They got the bi week as you mentioned. They've got Denver. That games in Kansas City. They've got Vegas and Kansas City. So back to back division games at home. Then they go out to play the Chargers in LA, then they've got Pittsburgh back in Kansas City. Then they finish the year with two road games at sensing at Denver. Yeah, I mean, look, none of those and I don't think one thing we've learned about the NFL this year. Nick is that anything can happen in anybody can beat anybody because I don't think there are any really great teams in the league..

"Saw the passing attack really missed that vertical threat that Henry ruggs provided. I'm not sure Desean Jackson gives that element to them right out of the gates. But when you look at this side of the ball, Derek Carr probably the least appreciated starting quarterback in the National Football League. But against this chief's defense, maybe the Raiders don't have his commanding an advantage in week ten that they would have had if this matchup took place way back and week two or three. Yeah, I think you're spot on there. Listen, I think this is the fourth straight week. We've broken down a chiefs game in the 6th time this season. I got to see where they played next week. I'm sick and tired of talking about this team. Maybe we can skip out on one of their games. You can keep going. I'm looking. And we've kind of been preaching, right? Kansas City's defense is in as bad as people think. It's kind of the easy. Anytime you talk chiefs football, it could be anybody write the guy at the damn it, we have to do the chiefs. We have to do the chiefs game again next week too. Damn it. Okay, go ahead. Play the cowboys. Right, everyone's like the chief defense sucks. It's the crutch. It's the easy thing to kind of talk about. But we thought it would improve. And again, it's not a defense that's built to be elite when they made their Super Bowl run. It was an above average defense, but it was built to play with leads, and that hasn't happened. And to start the season, you couldn't have handpicked worse offense is structurally to go against for Kansas City than the browns and the ravens. You look Jimmy's and Joe's wise, Chris Jones, their best player, miss time. Trevor is ward when their best cover corners mistime. The young kids at linebacker with Bolton and gaye are only going to get better. Frank Clark was dealing with dual hamstring injuries that had him out of believe three games and kind of playing like a shell of himself. Spags finally figured out one thornhill is substantially better than Daniel Sorensen. And then you went out and got Melvin Ingram who graded out the best run defender in his first game against the packers and that allowed Chris Jones to play inside more where he's best. Certainly, some of this improvement from the chief's defense is opponent aided, but the last four games, the chiefs are 7th and EPA per Russia out 9th in passing success rate allowed. I think Sunday nights probably the barometer to figuring out how much the chief defense is actually improved. They gave up 71 points and the two matchups against car last season. If you can hold the Raiders to 24 last year, that is a really, really game effort in my opinion. I would think Colton Miller is able to remove Frank Clark, who again is much healthier now. But this kind of Ingram Chris Jones combination lined up side by side and left could cause some trouble for Brandon Parker and Alex leatherwood who have given up a combined 30 pressure since week 5. You mentioned Derek Carr. He's not going to be considered in the MVP race, but I think when you think about his performance on the field, how he's adapted and changed his style over the last few seasons, pushing the ball downfield, how he's been the glue that's held this team together throughout multiple off field issues. He really needs to be considered for MVP this year. I know the scoreboard said they lost to the Giants by 7. Reality is the out game the Giants by one and a half yards per play. They were a plus 9 in that success rate last week. I do believe they miss Henry ruggs, who was turning into really a complete receiver and not just a deep threat. He could do things. On the screen game, he could hit you over the middle. He was physical after the catch. He could leap and catch balls. He was your bona FIDE deep threat and the difference now with Desean Jackson there is yes, he's a deep threat, but he can't play as many snaps as Henry ruggs or he's going to be injured and three quarters. The difference now is you kind of have to tell the defense, hey we might be throwing deep here because you can't play to Sean Jackson on every down. You could play rugs on every down. And so that's kind of the differentiator here in that type of long speed. Now obviously you needed a guy that could stretch the field, your hope is that at this combination of maybe Brian Edwards and Deshawn can do enough to not have a massive dip from from Henry ruggs. If the Raiders are smart, they up their play action rate in this game. For some reason cars throwing with play action about 8% less this season than last, we know the chiefs defense is one of the most sensitive to defending play action. I want to use that more. The key though is build the lead. So the chiefs have to play from behind, and then that matchup advantage that we outlined of Crosby and gawkway can actually eat even more. But that'll be the key here is the Raiders getting out and building a lead. And that I think changes the dynamic of this game a little bit. Should be one hell of a game, and clearly if the chiefs are going to still be the team to beat in the AFC west, this is the contest you have to go on the road and win. You don't want the Raiders to continue believing that they have a legitimate shot to try and assert their dominance within the dynamics of the AFC west fun game Sunday Night and we can only hope it replicates what we saw a season ago that was back and forth again, the Kansas City ultimately won 35 to 31. In this very same spot. We do have one big game left to go that of course is the Thursday Night Football affair. But before we get there, it's important to introduce another perspective into the fold. He joins us every Thursday here on the bet the board podcast. You of course can follow John Sheeran on Twitter at J Sheeran that's H E R a N one 9 8 one and John, we saw underdogs bite for the second straight week in a row. Hopefully the recreational betters have a few bucks to rub together as they walk to the window for NFL week ten. They better have it from before last week, talk because last week was a bit of a massacre again on our side. So yeah, I think it's been a challenge so far this season overall three weeks there where the better is managed to get the better of us, but otherwise it's been heavily heavily favored on our side, you know, the weeks that have gone our way have gone our way incredibly well and big, big digits in terms of full percentage for the books and it's been difficult. So yeah, like I said, those three weeks hopefully people got a few dollars of managed to keep a hold of it and are ready to go again this week. So what you're telling our loyal listeners is that the casual fan didn't look to put together three team parlays built around the Jacksonville Jaguars, along with the.

"Running back and aj dylan is a a good flicks. Like i think if you don't like boston scott or a ravens running back or mike davis if you don't like him then us start. Aj dylan over those kind of guys guys. You don't really wanna start. Yeah okay would you start well. I'm not sure. I must have missed the name she said. Would you start. Aj dylan over ravens running back. Did you say that. I'm sorry. I would start him over all the ravens running backs okay. Adams is the only wide receiver we want from the from. The packers jamie how. 'bout giuseppe de guevara against the chiefs. Who are just so bad. It gets tight. Ed's eddie interest at all Well if if i was jordan love i'd just be looking forever. Daniel sorensen his rights or their It could be the could be mercedes louis. The nature of how this packers offense. I think it's gonna go like dubois will probably the guy between the twenties. The red zone throttled probably be mercedes lewis. You'll hate yourself for starting either one so tight. End me leagues. Maybe take a shot. One of those two guys. But i would try to avoid or dfs punt place like if you wanna just have a minimum price tight end and pay up everywhere else. I ask mahomes actually. let's last. I checked he was eighth. For jamie's he's still eighth. Ninety five five. Okay so stop by everybody so look in his last four games. He's completing sixty two percent of his six point two five yards per attempt. That's terrible he's on pace in those games. I definitely a typo I put six thousand six hundred yards against three thousand. Maybe it's four thousand six hundred twenty touchdowns twenty four interceptions though so you guys haven't top five. You wouldn't start. Say jalen hurts over him take higher originally was there before the packers news like. I said i think they're gonna have the ball a lot more you know. So and defense for the packers will be tired. So i have more faith in the homes in this in this regard is it. That was his last four games when he's been so bad And has been. I'm not trying to dispute that at all. I was just going to look and see like is he still a top Twelve he's number five. I think at quarterback for the season on a per game basis. I don't think he's going to twelve because he's been In those four games in running quite a bit more he has like one hundred and he's thirteenth He has like a hundred and twenty more rushing yards than tyler. Murray this year. yeah yeah. He's runs for thirty yards almost every week any throws a lot to you know it's look it's only a matter of time come on. Let's get going mahomes. Green bay has allowed. Only nine touchdown passes in their last seven games but they've just had such an easy schedule and even last week they play keiler. Murray and the andre hopkins barely plays so the only. I'd say top twelve quarterbacks to face dream bay or murray who struggled and borough who had twenty two points okay. Kansas city running backs gore dylan. Who's a better flyer gore dylan this week. Dylan dylan. i don't wanna trust core yet. Okay and so you..

"You cannot stop them. You cannot beat them you can only hope to contain and whatever the ravens won the game. It was a salad win and now we're one on one just like the rest of the league. I mean the way that it was celebrated if felt like the ravens won the super bowl. It's time to have a conversation about john. Harbaugh can't call his own plays when the pressure is the highest. It's absolute cap of the week. It deserves an oscar winning performance. What do you think. The video was advocated of him as lamar. If you watch you believe it was fabricate. I i promise you that that was not where you think somebody went on. Adobe promoter now said lama. Let me explain. Daniel stern two years ago. Twenty nineteen ravens fourteen. A to mars emmy. Pc's and this kid. Daniel stern start talking about analytics. Why do you go for fourth down. He is casey's best friends camp friends so we know about him. They start doing the math. And it's like it any fourth insured on at that point in the game you should go for. That's why they went in seattle. It's why they were. The numbers were determined before the drive even began like the thought. I said it before the drive. Even sorry i said do you go forth. And what and. Oddly enough they end up in a fourth. The one that decision was was headphone down from stern and roman before there was any consideration whether they're going for it and then harbaugh just likes to build a little confidence alamar. You wanna go for like. Do we really think bars going to be like no. i think we should punt it back to mahomes. We've we've played a lot of. Why ask him if the numbers were there. I asked you to think there is something to a little bit of like convincing him. it's his decision. It's his time to go get it. It's not like they didn't have that didn't happen the first time like this is the second time it's happened jack. It worth and the decision. I mean it was ballsy. But like i said to you like i said to. You can talk about lamar's arm. You can talk about his inaccuracy his ducks that he throws the guy's a hell of a coach. The guy's a health coach too big calls thus far in his career. I mean you beat the chiefs but let me ask you this hard to beat a team twice in this league. Who i mean. There's no guarantee we're gonna play them. There are five hundred football team. You know so who knows supposedly see that again. I look i have said. I've genuinely said i know we can beat the chiefs at some point. It needs to be a really good game. And yeah i mean that's a big if a if a blind squirrel and find another do. I have a lot of confidence. We could beat them again. Maybe not but yes i would prefer to. Beat the raiders lose to the chiefs and then we're all in four and the same narrative now feels like we've kinda cracked the code a little bit. how how. 'bout my is raiders. I told you upset of the week. I picked the raiders over the steelers but yet big win not as much. I super bowl but i think it did two things one. It avoided oh to start. That's huge and now you go to detroit and you can get to a good spot in the division at one And then second. I mean to bring back the bingo board like this kind of is i tweeted. It's knocked off every narrative. There is about lamar except for one thing. There's one thing left. He can't play exactly. That's it though. The playoffs stuff is done. Playing from behind done like were down. Eleven and a fourth can't beat the chiefs in mahomes can't do you know blah blah blah blah blah blah. It's now he can't throw. And truthfully i'm perfectly fine with that one because any ravens fan knows it's just silly He's actually look pretty good throwing the football the what i died. He's looks really good. throwing the football. I mean everything's relative. Yeah so it's like now and can only regress because you can't be the mvp lamar can only go out. Because he because passing yards. But i think he was actually pretty pretty good there on the football Over the first su- games with time and they protection in week to the one the the pig sex was just funny more so than his fault. Walk in slept was bad timing. The the the second interception though was legitimately the worst throw decision and play all wrapped in one of his entire career. That was done fat. Like i have never seen him do that before he was definitely pressing a little and then after that he settled in and play. Just fuck. i mean this guy is out. I told you this pay him. I don't care. I'm done with the roll stuff. One guy wins the super bowl. It's fucking tom brady and the rest of us have to suffer through you score. Thirteen points. alphand's can't score a point. The eleven eleven. The dolphins can't score point like our guy is fun to watch. He's electric. i we lost. We lost guy stud devante. Atoms wants to be a raven base office. Press conference and things are good in baltimore. Said he watched twenty five minutes to lamar jackson highlights before their monday. Night football game. He just wants to be a raven last dance. You don't want to be with cranky. Rogers you wanna be with lamar jackson. And by the way for not being able to throw hollywood brown put up some pretty nice numbers to start the season. I said it to you. I was always very much against hollywood brown. I said to you when i saw him week. One take the field. Had i known he switched number five. I would have been a lot more bullish on the guy and his bit assange number to either receive right now in the league. But i still don't like these single digits. I like him. My brain is not built. Your brains gonna need like a decade so before we wrap ravens chiefs. There's one thing we need to address It's the man the myth the legend. The lamar jackson staffer daniel sorensen made. It made a few big place. But lamar listen to this podcast. Because that was the most disrespectful stiff arm. I it wasn't even like a strong stiff are an open ham smack to daniels orange head and when he did that it was just so funny that he did that. Lesson you can. You can get lucky and beat a team twice a year ago. Give you that but where you lose me is. Dan is beating the lamarche. Stop of listen if we see the chiefs again. Odds are there in their favor but.

"John dixon discussing the chiefs this week. What happened after the thirty six to thirty five loss to the baltimore ravens on sunday night. Football and right. Now we're going to get into andy. Reed's monday afternoon. Press conference on zoom. He's been doing it on zoomed this year. If you wanna listen to the full press conference without john jabhat everything he said you can go and do that on from the podium. Right here on the arrowhead pride podcast network. Also last night. We had an opportunity to have a nice conversation with byron pringle touchdown in this game that is available for your bonus arrowhead pride interview series again right now on the arrowhead pride podcast network but one thing we didn't get into with the snap counts and it's relevant because andy. Reid had some comments on. This is the idea that now. Tyrod matthews back in the lineup. So it's one less safety position. Daniel sorensen got those reps over one thornhill. Who had a nice end to his cleveland. Browns game with just eleven plays for thornhill of the defensive players. He had the least amount of playing time. Here was andy. Reid on one thornhill and dan sorenson one and dan i they do certain things the same and a couple of things different but it okay at equals out. So i'm dan relieves head. You know he'd had the better camp and so on so Maybe a little bit more consistency there but we love. We love lawn and where he's coming. What were getting himself back to where he was and is rookie year and I wanna take anything away from the effort that he's put forward to do that but and they they all get a chance to play so i think Just they step by step here and you can't have enough those as they can play. So you have andy reid really zoning in on the consistency during training camp and it's very interesting because we saw thornhill and he got a ton of wraps during training camp and the preseason so much so that he was on with the second team at times with the first team also on the third team and you almost got the sense from a team standpoint that they were just trying to find a way for him to show them that he was ready to be back in the lineup and in week one he had to be in the lineup out of necessity. The chiefs were down a safety. Their their best defensive player as a lot of people would say so. We had to play struggled in the first half. And then i typed out a thousand words so a thousand reasons for him to play more in this game and the chiefs did it lists and they don't read our pride dot com. I guess because sort of pseudo bench. For a dan sorenson. And what's tough about. This is now you go to. The numbers in there are time. That sorenson didn't look great. Pf hatem at four missed tackles and you have thornhill with some of these pseudo sub tweet type of deal and it really has become the topic this week in kansas city. It's kind of taken on a life of its own and you really wonder is maybe thornhill. Go get an additional opportunity. I guess we'll have to just see what happens on that front. John yeah I think there's a couple of things about this Read talked about the consistency. I also think they believe sorenson is very smart has a high football iq I think that's part of the reason I know that doesn't wash with a lot of chiefs fans. They think that the best athletes should be on the field. I understand that But i think we always have to remember that spagnolo runs a defence. A thinking. man's defense if you wanna call it that And i and i that sometimes means you've got players on the field who were less athletic than other players. But it's hard to know what the result would be if the smarter guys were on the bench So that that's a. That's something. I think we need to remember as we watch this. That that coaches may look at it differently than we do. Sitting on the on the in the press box or in the stands are in front of our. Tv's i also think it's important to note that In week one when thornhill assumed matthews role as the starting safety Armani wants played on defense Which he does only rarely any had twenty three percents of the snaps Against cleveland against the ravens. Thornhill had fourteen percents of the snaps. Now that's less than watts. Did in week one. But i think that's because the chiefs when they went to multiple additional defensive backs in their formations. The numbers show that they tended to go towards cornerbacks instead of safeties in this particular game. So you know it's not that thornhill You know got a low number. Because they don't believe in he got a low because the third safety gets a low number right. I think the problem chiefs fans have right now is that he shouldn't be the third safety should be empty. And that's a solid argument. I don't you know. I'm not saying that's wrong so i just i mean you had a player that that was coming off of that game against the browns. Where if he doesn't force that fumble. You don't win the game and maybe your own to and if he doesn't have that ourika maybe it's it's very different. And i i don't know i just tend to think that you try to reward plays like that. I think we can all agree that who who has the more upside as far as a player period to me it is clearly thornhill higher ceiling in a sense now. Sorenson has found a way to stick around for seven eight years now as an undrafted free agent because of the film work that he does. And it is that athleticism vs smarts Chart that you have there. What's tough about this stuff about this argument. And i and i. I feel fans because i tend to agree in this sense. I'm not always always hopping on the the group thing. The group chaos and madness. I just tend to think that the thornhill replacement over sorenson given the missed tackles would've maybe been worth two points. Which is one of the chiefs would have taken. I also feel that way about willie gay. For example i think the chiefs missed willie gay so much in this game plan just getting gashed with the run. Even less about lamar decks though. I think that gay actually can chase down. Lamar jackson some of these running backs willie gay on. The field is not going to get diced up by tyson williams and latavius murray and a handful of plays that devante freeman saw. I i think that that was not something that she's were prepared for. Not being without gay and it really hurt them in this game. I think this is something to watch for the chargers game. And i also think it's something to listen to on thursday when steve spagnolo was but at the podium. Because andy reid. And steve spagnolo operate a little bit differently when it comes to the media. We've learned that very early on here. Yeah we're a special yesterday. I think we just heard andy reid discussing this. And he's touching upon a little bit but not really going into deepened. Clearly as saying that for one reason or another bay felt. Dan was the better option. I mean not as clear in the numbers. I wonder if we'll get a little bit. More clarity from steve spagnuola. Because you know almost without a doubt this is gonna be the initial question about the second question to him On thursday..

"But if we there's there's the spread is three and a half. It's not like it's a two touchdowns right like there's your touchdown underdog in harrelson's fair. There's a chance we win the game. I'm not gonna act. But i wouldn't necessarily last year. I was on here saying that. We're going to beat them. Were the better team. We're going to run all over them with the line and the pass rush is just you. Can't if it was week ten you'd probably be a thousand percent more weeks unreasonable. But the team. I've seen you have you thought about have you right. So lamar has to play superman. Have you thought about who's on the other side of the ball hat. Moans danny sanyal sore daniel sorensen of the. He's going to make the biggest lock for sunday. Is that daniel swords. And if you haven't listened to the pod in the past. When we came on to get his name equals center. jack When we came on the pod the fan pod we let him in. He was a die hard cheese fan. He told us word for word when we found out that the nfl was going to figure out lamar jackson this year. He said no. They won't daniel sorensen. Well and daniel sorensen came up big for the chiefs last week against the browns and now it's his first crack at lamar. What position does he play. Linebacker safety i will never watch a safety as close as closely as i will watch daniel sorensen on sunday night and i am so excited for the chiefs are going to beat the shit out you and you'll be oh and and that is just that let's let's go takeaways from week number one by We're going to do to each my first one. I started the bandwagon. But my friends at pr gridiron may be carrying it. The in regression bam waggin people give him the excuse. That is oh lime wasn't working the excuse. I haven't seen any excuses for john because the reason the reason that i haven't been seen many excuses is because the issues that he had on sunday against the steelers the steelers the could be the best in football. It could bake or if not top three top five whatever but the issues. We're seeing with josh allen. Where the exact same issues. We saw before last year the inaccurate passing. And and that's just like can we. Are you now aunt. He's now played four straight bad football games and this was the same exact thing happened to lavar. Four straight football games. This is the same thing. That happened to lamar. The regular season is a breeze but when they really figure him at my takeaway from week one is don't let the league didn't he played pretty well against the culture now. Lost that game they. They punted like four times the ravens he was awful and the chiefs jus awful and now we what he was awful. All i'm saying is not jehlum regression anymore but did the media get it wrong. Might they just figure out josh. Well that's my takeaway from week one and you know how good that miami dolphins defenses. Oh bryant florez throwing different looks at him eagleton. We'll tell you all about it. All i'm saying is be careful joshua and this you know josh allen is your cuyler of last year week after week last year you were just finding reasons to go at cuyler. Cuyler comes out. He throws for five touchdowns they beat the shit out of the titans injects. Like how come over here. I let me talk to you. And now and now you're walking with gel and under your arm for the rest of the using your calculated takes here and there. I saw perfect saying that it a bad week wanting. It's a really good defense and you know in order to in order to win fifteen games to lose undermined definition of the big game I take away from week one. Is that the snapback bump is back. And it's real than ever. We have evan. Mcpherson on kicker from university of florida gets drafted to the bengals. Starting rookie kicker goes interest has a bunch of field goals then kicks fifty plus yarder for the winning over overtime and his first career game like he came in four evolutions on the bulb. What is that what they're called revolutions. Yeah he calculated the shit out of those revolutions. And then you've got equa going into the end zone you got. Dj more catching touchdown the smitty being smitty and being the best route in football as we're running football out in the end zone with these that was the best quota the week at someone was. When did you touch is like when i lined up man conference like nobody can guard this man. No one can go in the nfl. Okay if you wanna talk about no one can guard. I'm adding take right there. While i was the best player in in the history of the world is the most unguardable fucking person of time. I mean jack. If you've got thirty targets in the nfl. I think you'd have six or seven receptions too like they just threw it to 'em every single vinnie's a mismatch nightmare. I got the bump. The bump was just alive. And well ed mcpherson at clara dj more. There's probably more missing but you know come on the pod and good things happen. Stay tuned more. Guess more coming. Susan and by the way raiders fans out there because we only talked to the ravens Lens i'm going to give you some love in the second half of the pods. So stay tune. I'm opted..

"Can definitely blame Baker Mayfield. For trying to do too much. On the interception. He's through to my cues. You know, on the last drive, you can blame him and and maybe you should blame him, But he was in the process of throwing. When Daniel Sorensen came up behind him and was tackling him, and so it's hard for me to blame Mayfield on that play. But clearly, you know, the Browns Shit grow from that and the Browns are really good team. I considered a still, you know, don't know if If they're Super Bowl team, and that game yesterday was a discouraging game. I would think for those who think that you know the Browns. Already to bash the door down Peter King here on the Rich Eisen show after the first Sunday of 2021 Tonight. On Monday night, Football's radio coverage will be hosting on Westwood, one between the Vegas writers and the Baltimore Ravens. Peter King will be joining me, Uh, on halftime of that broadcast right here on the rich Eisen show at the moment, though. I was at the opener last night here. It's so far, Peter. How'd you like it Really Unbelievable. Unbelievable. And I was mentioning that Um, I was mentioning that it may be the first time in Los Angeles Rams L A Rams have ever had a home field advantage quite like that. It was loud. It was like a rock concert. I got home an hour later, it was still ringing in my ears. And it's just the general sense of whatever the team must have felt. When you know Stafford showed up and did what he did last night. 20 of 26 321 yards, three touchdowns. Um, JB longer calls the Games local here. Tweeted out that with TD passes of 67 56 yards in his Rams debut. That's the first time Stafford has multiple touchdown passes of 55 or more yards in a game for the first time in his career, he gets the game ball. It's a beautiful new stadium for the team fans are going crazy. I would be. I would. I'd be on the lookout if I'm the rest of the NFL. Not just strolling in that building, Which is what Tom Brady is going to do, Uh, a couple of weeks. Um, but just the way the team must be feeling right now. I'm wondering what you could tell me anything. From your insider position of what you've heard or what you've talked about leading up to this or after last night about this Well, rich. I spent some time in training camp with Sean McVeigh A, you know, and much less time with Stafford and Aaron Donald. But here's what I thought. Coming out of that team coming out of that camp, okay? That song McVeigh. Has an encyclopedia in his brain of plays. He wants to run. And I believe that, um if there were 26 volumes in the World Book Encyclopedia when we were kids And they would be on our shelves and we would look take out the l and and look at. You know whatever. We wanted to look up for research in the Els That in my opinion, I think that when Jared Goff was the quarterback of the Rams That Sean McVeigh did not feel comfortable using every volume in his encyclopedia and I think now he looks at Matthew Stafford. As really kind of a complete player. Not that golf was not going to get to that point. But golf was more of a student, and Stafford is more of a peer. And I think that that is why. I mean, honestly rich. That's really the reason why I picked the ramps to win the Super Bowl. I think that I think that, uh That that is, you know, And look, they don't have the margin for injury. Teague, like teams like Tampa Bay do okay, but I do believe that they're going to have a really great chance. As long as they can open up. Every week and call, you know almost any play that McVeigh desires and the one thing that really stuck out to me Rich is look 8.5 yards. Is usually right around the best yards per attempt. In the NFL every year, maybe up to nine yards, okay? But yesterday in his debut, Stafford's yards per attempt was 12.5 and what that says he's not only being accurate and and and and, you know, making, making almost every past count, but he's also hitting plays down field. And that is what Sean McVeigh desperately is wanted in his offense on a fish into Quick strike downfield thrower, and now he's got one. So we'll see how far they go. Peter King here on the rich Eisen show a couple more minutes left. All right, Peter, I'll just open it up to you. And what you found out last night your what was your favorite quote? That you got from Sunday's coverage. Give me that one. Which one? Did you like talking to somebody or you heard Or you read anything like probably, I would say, probably the one that Uh, you know, when what I'm asking Jamis Winston about his favorite play in as this, it's the ball. He's going to throw out of bounds and he said To me goes, listen. I was going to throw that ball. So far over his head. That even shocked couldn't intercept And I loved it. So that to me. It just says that, you know. Hey, throw it away and live and live for another day. The one other one rich about yesterday that I felt was really cool. Let's talk to the Tyrod Taylor after the game, and hey, look, Hats off the Tyrod Taylor. What a guy! What a performance. I mean everything that that guy has been through. I just really I've got great admiration for him. But I asked Tyrod Taylor about the national anthem because I don't know about you rich, but I I was blown away by.

He was right in the face of Baker Mayfield when he came out of that boot lake fake, but you saw their arm strength of Baker. Just to drive the ball to his tight end against that safety blitz. "Just looks more stout this year like he was a stout young man before but he is a solid of a human. The is his immovable. Right now and i think you saw with talk of charleston that yeah they. They've love their depth. The you don't move on from a guy with upside. I charleston has unless you feel bad about your tim warts or you feel great about your mind. Damase your turk warton's you know i mean now. This is the deepest is the deepest offensive line. That i've can remember it a long time. I mean maybe going. Back to jared allen. I mean really like this. We haven't seen dad like this on a really long time as fans it's a credit to brett beach and their scouting department and their talent evaluators that they've got death there that we just didn't i see like i. It just something that you know. In the media. Writers beat writers reporters whatever that was a question mark headed into in for all of us. I think outside of chris jones really. Because it's perfectly reasonable to have question marks about frank clark headed into the ear. We all know chris. Jones is a superstar. But it was. What else do you got. And jarran reed has shown that he can be a impact player at the nfl level during his time with the seattle seahawks. But he's kind of a run guy like he's not really. He does have ten tax season under his belt. But he's generally been a more of a run stuff type of player. It's just really impressive. Yeah we didn't even mention josh canedo. And yeah the play that he made tonight like. I just think that you have to come out of this. Preseason thinking that the most impressive part of this chiefs team is not the offense. It's not the offensive line. It's the defensive fly. I would make the argument. The second most impressive part is the secondary like not what i expected in any way coming into this thing and getting ready for the regular season because the secondary has been impressive in itself to. And there's still question marks there. We're we're still figuring things out with one thornhill like why is want thornhill not are starting safety and this point over a guy like daniel sorensen when we've seen we saw last week. The insanely athletic interception that he made like. That's what we think. One thornhill is capable of and he was still getting a lot of snaps with the second team tonight We still don't know exactly what's going on there. Steve stragglers book a little bit this week about it was our goal to just get him snaps and get him involved and tried to get him back to where the point where we thought he was as a rookie and that was kind of the goal of the preseason all i certainly did that they got him snaps but we'd obviously like to see him be bigger contributor and be a starter at some point because that's what we thought he was going to be eventually and the secondary which area snead looks like. He's gonna be a superstar. I'm not even. I'm not trying to be like a chiefs homer diehard or anything like that. It's just. I pay attention to every team in the nfl. I watch every team in the nfl. At every opportunity. That i can get and when you watch this team even in the preseason. You're just like all right. There's just something different about this team. The what. I'm seeing when i watch other teams in the end the pres. Yeah i mean there's one thing you can usually bank on cheeses that they're going to believe at some point and other teams replant from behind and if the chiefs past defense plays like did tonight throughout the season they're going to be really hard team to beat because the other teams are ambient in past. You'll have to pass the ball over and over and over again to try to catch up in luxurious. Need wakes in your hip pocket like he was rolls out of bed in the morning. And he's on your hip like you go to work and he's just right there but he just does not leave your hip eat. He is a superstar. Yeah and We see a ton of you guys commenting. We'll try to get to some year comments at some point throughout the show. So keep sending a man if you guys have any questions or curiosities about the chiefs had another regular season. Our only a couple of weeks away from their home opener against the cleveland browns on september twelfth. We'd be happy to try to get to those throughout the show. It's yeah it's just hard not to be impressed with everything. The kansas city chiefs have done. you know. That was something that we talked about. On one of our arrowhead pride podcasts. Earlier this week show in be k. That we just wanted to see mahomes. Do it's acted. There's a question of whether or not he's capable or how special. He is or wasn't incredible player. He is it was just just want to see it before the regular season and he absolutely delivered tonight. So you have to be thrilled about that. That's that those first drafts. Mackenzie chiefs is literally all you can ask for a pretty season game. It was everything that you could have hoped for and half a quarter of action from your starting kansas city chiefs offense mccoll hartman did can even out the snaps a little bit more with demarcus robinson tonight. And so. that's what you wanna see right because we know demarcus robinson is we ease. He can make plays here and there but he's kind of inconsistent player and kind of always has been for this team Dave told even mentioned earlier this week that he drives him nuts as a return man and the mark. And i don't believe is like a special player or anything like that. But this season you had to see michael hardman outset demarcus robinson and take that role over in the offense and we saw a little bit of that tonight enough of it. That makes you happy or it should make you happy. Headed into the regular season right. Yeah i think especially robinson is to marcus robinson. He's a guy who has a lot of tom. But like you said he's not consistent. You don't want margaret robinson being number two receiver. I mean just plant simple..

I would say do not restrict yourself like you're at an age now where in i don't want to say you don't have any responsibilities but like you're at an age where you are so you don't have kids you don't have a family you can do shit. You can go and do anything. You're now going to a different part of the country that you've never been in before that you haven't lived in and you haven't seen shit around their other different parts of the country or whatever. Just don't keep yourself in bubble wherever you go like you can t take weekend trips go to a beach with with friends or something just like go see shit and go do shit whenever you can. Don't just get yourself caught up in a small bubble at school where you just like do the same thing all the time and you don't get to experience things that's what i would say. I took trips to. But i also just don't think that that's the point. I think the point the best thing that you want. We wanted to look good but also on flip guide for the long haul. Ben next faller ozzy am. I thought my father is one four nil. Who's a safety for the third year. Blair i was really good as a rookie in twenty nine and then had a major injury torn acl and in twenty twenty. His halfback was fraught with bumps. Bruises is not dissimilar to the conversation. Robin with joe borough vocalise to meet it. He's like i'm just not triggering a as willing to hit over the middle of field. Don't feel explosives goes confident in my moods right and across the The end of the regular season started to get actor a little bit. He's very important player for the chiefs because of toronto we love to talk about mersal. Bekker's but what you always need a into that yang. You always need a an equal but opposite force reversal vendor because if durant matthews lineup everywhere to do everything. Somebody else's idea beds has to also be able to light up everywhere. Do everything so that you can move matthew around so you can get foolish rhythm them so you can disguise tennessee. Because since he's you know lining up deep in the closing shala guy who's lined up in a box you can go flying one thornhill. Is that player for the chiefs when they get both thornhill field. They're able to run split field match. Coverages allow that that brennan's daily alabama really cool college. Stop these players. Give them that opportunity when not. It's daniel sorensen who wears forty nine so not the same. And so you've got a thornhill right now. Do the nagging groin He's not playing but it's going to camp reports. He's run with the twos and threes a lot more than he's wrong with the ones Full its practices. They're getting him as many risks as possible he was playing into the third or the preseason because he is not confident is not feeling strong on his life and it goes back to the initial andrea now nagging injury and so jason thornhill. He's important to them. Thornhill is still getting back which one thousand nine hundred ninety androids a good reminder for burroughs process gonna go these major injuries they latte. They linger both mentally physically onto thornhill bear. Important player gary impressive player simply a player. Who's just struggling to get one hundred percent back to where he was in the chiefs. Defense does need them. If they're going to be their south they do need him beyond percent yes. This is the definition. Literal definition would x-factor and there are people in kansas city. We're talking about thornhill as As a guy where if he was his old self or if he was on the sector he was rookie That would be a really good thing For that defense. How i guess again. I i know that this is. This is a bigger question. But how good is secondary. Have to be For the chiefs to have that super bowl contention kind of mantel that we put on them the last couple of years right. I guess about as good as they. Bring them back to back championships. What's important here is that spags gonna blacks steiger james stripes steig divas line in the world. He's going to sell scattered. He does what he loves with the nature of their front four. They have to. And so now you. You're going to become more predictable. And you're going to invite the same responses from offensive kind of know how to deal with this a little bit when you have corners who are able to make smart plays a short zones. When you have safeties we're gonna rotate and can play variety coverages. That gives you the duplicity. You need survive because plus you need to throw new pitches come january evening event. They don't have an adblocker sorenson Amani watts the safety. Matthew's ability to be way you will be limited because you're going to have to keep him in a true safety roles because you don't have the horses to actually placing their odd so this senators is growing constructed coeruleus a little bit better without thornhill assayed. Jerem is worse than to be overall. They're worse for that reason. If they're able to get goodlatte watts or get foreign held back more needs to be live by december. I think they're going to be better than corner. Rooms improved legitimacy. Health is going to be great yet. You're going to be fine on but as it is right now. Four hundred injury. It's definitely concerning Dennis warrenton by the way was one of the unvaccinated players or appeared to be unvaccinated in in kansas city. Judging by some of the wristband to the questions he said and then i googled it just to make sure because i was gonna mention that and then i just saw that. There is a huge battle over. Whether or not the chief speech at ask janelle sorenson and quitting it former fullback. Anthony sherman getting insanely mad at reporters for asking about it. So i'm just gonna let that let that lie there for a little bit and move on to the next to the next hour and it's the vibes are not impeccable. Okay my next follow. Dax recovery tied man. We we have an update since the tweet heard around the world. So yesterday mike mccarthy said the dok probably won't play until week one.

"Right Which is not base which has not been the base During the spagnolo years but it has been the most used formation so kind of telling us. It's a weird thing now because like well then it's it's technically the base then right. What does the word base mean in. A you know what i mean. So it's the most used formation and you're seeing a lot of folks do this now across the league when they're doing evaluations articles and whatnot. It's it's more of the four down linemen the two linebackers and then you have the defensive backs and i actually liked this better. It almost was backwards for a couple of years. They were just continuing put out the four three and then they'll be trying to force guys in different spots. So i actually liked this better but yeah so chris. Jones more realistic derek. Nadi frank clark. Let's go to linebackers. Willie gain anthony. Hitchens are there. we also have okay so behind. Willie gay nick bolton during. Oh dan dory no daniel and our murray cobb behind anthony hitchens bend neiman darius harris and emmanuel smith and riley coal. This feels up and down right. I think during no daniel despite really not being a factor on defense is going to make this team once again as just that ultimate special teamer. I think that's it is interesting. That really gay is next to anthony. Hitchens for all the folks that were really worried about ben neiman being. That's about. I think ben even going to be playing quite a bit. But he's not going to be the starter per se. In what would be. The four to five were describing. They liked ben neiman and he knows the playbook i really i mean speaking have set it a lot where it's a neck up type of thing to me is among the players that are gonna make this roster good to see nick bolton right in that second spot. I think that that's just how confident they are in him. Because you look at the rookies bolt in this spot. Cornell pal is buried. i mean if they weren't high on what bolton has shown so far. I don't know if he'd be this high in this of course unofficial depth chart. Yeah no i agree. And i think this depth chart looks perfect. Gain hitchens bolton neiman daniel in harris cobb and smith. And they're likely gonna keep what four or six i think is the normal number of linebackers. If i remember correctly am without looking that up. But i think six is the number they keep so. That leaves Cobb and emmanuel smith Out on on cut down day. You're starting cornerbacks trevor ward. Does that left. they have luxurious. Need it right. And then mike uses listed as just a cornerback in reality. This is swamped sillage. Nina has been playing as what would be the nickel whereas mike us has been getting a lot of the nods on the outside. There's also competition. Though there for rashad fenton has been making a case mashad. Fenton is actually look good. These past few days on the outside playing against the top team. The andre baker is behind fenton in that and then behind ward and hughes. You have chris lemons. Many patterson. i'd dicaprio bootle. Zane anderson is among that abo-. Pk's is right behind. Mike hughes in one of the cornerback positions almost a second column. So i i like bo pete keys. I think he's starting to come along a little bit more. I don't think he's ready to have any real meaningful snaps. But as long as he's playing special teams. I see no that. Ot's isn't on this roster. I think by the end of this fenton could make a case to maybe get the nod over hughes but right now hughes is the other cornerback. I think that's the only telling thing at that position The thing i find fascinating is the presence of chris. Lambs behind Show various ward. Now this guy that chiefs had last year On the practice squad for most of the season he was activated Temporarily a couple of times the game day elevation as they called it last year right they will call it. this year. That that rule stays this year's best best we can tell So i find it interesting that they've got him behind ward at that left cornerback position And and and ahead of the andre baker Baker is in the third position behind steed and fenton on this depth chart. So i find that very interesting. Yeah that's worth noting. I didn't even catch the how high chris. Lemons was interesting quarterback position in the depth chart too because he's just might be the next three up in a sense of how who comes in first. We don't really know how it works. All right sage positions daniel sorensen entire in matthew. I think a little bit notable that one thornhill is behind. But i i was expecting that. Devon key is right behind tire and matthew. He's been getting some buzz. I think it's telling that key is ahead of what would be harmony watts and will park. We thought would also be in the mix and back of the safety room is marlin character and rodney clements. So i'm not a huge surprise sorenson and matthew been basically getting a ton of the reps when there's been two safeties out there when a third safety comes in it's been one thornhill devin key has been getting a lot of the dime safety first team reps which is really wild considering. He's an undrafted free agent and it's really tough. I remember when steve's bag nola was saying we're not even sure how much one thornhill a second round pick was going to play. And he was playing well and it's like but what does he have to do. And this is still early in training. Camp and devon key is already getting those dime safety wraps. Oh i just think that's a name to know. And certainly someone nobody in chiefs media had in their fifty three because nobody knows knew who this person was. Yeah and now all of a sudden. I think there's a really good chance he's going to make the roster yeah He certainly has acquired. Some buzz hasn't been and and and also in this safety depth chart You see rodney. Clemens in that fourth column. he's a guy that was on the practice squad last year and was elevated two or three times and i would have considered him to be on pretty much par with chris. Lions so that to me says a lot about how surprising chris. Lambs is Being in the second column behind various ward. But no. I think you make a good point Devon key is going to be the guy and a lot of fans will be upset. That thornhill isn't up there instead of sorenson..

"You just heard from patrick mahomes entire kill and now we continue on with daniel sorensen followed by willie gay. Here's dan sorenson. How's it going. How's the doorman so far skin. Yeah the kid. Yeah i i do i sleep. Good the defense. Early camp Yeah i think Two perspectives perspectives. One third year in the system. We have a lot of veterans in similar roles of Position for us so a lot of experience in that regards and then a lot of young guys that are filling in nicely stepping up learning the system and making plays going in the same hatred the league in notice. How much see progress. Yeah he's picking up The defense really. Well which is you know. Probably the first hurdle for rookie right as you know the understand the scheme and how to play in the system and he he's done that very well he's he's a high energy high effort guy so He's he's been flying around you know making plays and Yeah and they're giving opportunities to do that. Background efficient yes I know zane from obviously from byu and training there in the summers and whatnot. So it'll come to me and ask questions and you know. I love giving advice and experience passing it along to the next guy everything that i've learned and the experiences that i've had which is a lot And just trying to coach them up when when he runs into something that he's struggling with or need some guidance I've been. I've been trying to help them in that. What is patrick. Train quarterback given. You're probably not gonna see many. Yeah this is this is actually. It's really great for our defensive. Deal to go patrick. And the offense and coach read their scheme and the amount of past plays in the schemes that they draw up. It really challenges us and which is great because we can. We can tighten up. We can adjust. We can focus because we know going into the regular season we might not face such a pass heavy pass. Pass heavy proficient throwing offense So if we if we can get all that working in that that training in now It'll be really good for us. During the season i obviously i got here. This may exceed what you even hopeful that been still around after all these years starting for simple way beyond what you thought you know. I i wouldn't say i put limitations on what my expectations were So i'm just taking it moment by moment enjoying the ride. It's been great. So far. I love it and i look forward to With you know continued to grind and continue to work with this team. And you'll accomplish more we. We've done a lot but we're not done yet. No i talk about football. You got football question. That'd be great that that's kinda out of my wheelhouse three super bowls when you look at yourself on absolutely. There's always room for improvement. There's always things we can get better on it and focus on You know yes. It's everything right like you're not perfect in any any regards. I think Biggest thing is thirty in the system. We got a nail down the details right. When you have success and repeated success it's about being very detail oriented About your scheme and knowing your stuff and so so. That's kind of the focus is taking it to the next level right really polishing up what we do and that's what training camps for relieve trained in. What did you anything come here. Just like that question right like you. Just you just find ways to to do more to detail things a little better. So i'm i'm always trying to look for improvements and it's a lot of things that you do take care of your body but i'm always trying to stay on top of it of wonder from. Let's make from the team. We got a lot of guys on the team out without necessarily beauty. You know. I don't really care to answer that question. If you've got a football question that'd be great. That's the end for you guys. Dave merit green room. He brings a lot of experience coach. Mary he was saying this is like his twenty ninth training camp and so he knows ball He knows how to coach the secondary. And i think what. What's the best thing about coach. Mary's he knows how to encourage guys out to get the best out of them To coach them up in a way that they can they can Improve and Kind of take coaching and take it to the field. So he he's everything for us in the secondary and he he's been a great leader for us respect one tournament. Great success last year nardi so together with three six view and looked beach even better this season. Yeah i think the coach is right The ideas that you use people skill set to their advantage. Right and and i think they. They've done that really well. Putting us in in a position where we can use our strengths to help the defense And you know. I would say everybody's versatile right so we can play multiple positions and so They do a good job of putting us in positions but also allowing us to move around and did you different things. based on our skill set so The coaches do a fantastic job of getting guys in the right spot. Got hurt late last year. What was it like wasn't suck man. I was actually at home. I know kobe started cove visit happening. for some reason i could travel know. Don't be uncomfortable me with the need injury on the plane so being at home having to watch the game and then you know of course losing it is i really just you know committed myself to this year and i really wanted to be a lot different. Feel like oh yeah. I'm good second year. Keeping that confidence is really. We've seen he may highlight bellevue mutual preventable off season. And all these man honestly last year. I'd be honest man. You know you have confidence as a player because maybe doing this your whole life. But we can't prepare like you normally do when you don't get that you get a new playbook competence down allied no so having ta having his good training county where we're at right now man learning even more it up a lot so you know and being grammatically being able to understand his game enough to make plays you know it really helps so recognizing things quickly yours likability..

"Third full team practice up in saint joseph today at missouri western state university and after practice we got to hear from four chiefs. Patrick mahomes wide receiver. Tyree kill safety. Daniel sorensen and linebacker willie gay. So you'll hear from patrick mahomes and tyreek hill. We'll take a quick break and you will hear from daniel sorensen and we'll he gave the first up. Here is the quarterback of the kansas city chiefs. Patrick mumps started a couple years. Back was kind of and then kind of build relationship with the league's The people over there at sporting just loving the way that they they run their business and how they kind of really invested into that team and then my world of soccer Starting with brittany That i really wanted to be a part of it and she had the k- In wwl team. That's hurting and i wanted to do my own thing in a sense and And then always supporting the kansas city community. I mean it's such a big part of the community with the soccer community that we have here so it'd be a part of that. Was something special really over. Yeah that's exactly what it is. The community community has embraced me from day. One when i was on alex and they were support. Analogy still showed me love. Then whenever i came into the starting role l. believed in me and so i wanna show that same love back to the community. They've shown me this entire here. Football your owner of this football team gets out because seventy conversations yet. Fc dallas where we we haven't yet. i don't even. I wouldn't even think about that not until you just said that. But i'm sure there'll be a little little robbery there. I think they play literally like upcoming week. So we'll we'll kind of have a friendly will robbery in that sense. But at the same time i mean he he's a he's a great owner and clark and he's a great guy so just be more nothing more than friendly little robbery. Wide receiver are cheap for. Yeah i mean ways have been able to come in and then really executing is the big thing. Obviously he's super talented He can make the plays but he's been able to jump right in with with our played. Look where you know. Co treat isn't isn't slowly now and he's been able to execute make big plays Making contested catches at someone. Has that speed make contested catches a out on the field goals. Yeah i started that kind of mental health in your mind stuff in college. Kingsbury actually had a coach. Kinda guy come in and talk to me about different things in order to meet the folk how focus. I'll put things in perspective. And i kind of stayed with that. I'm to try to talk to different people. Talk to guys that have been talking to the top of the sports in every sport That have come along and and just learn from them and and then at the end the day at the time that you can enjoy with yourself with your family. And i think that's up in big and that's why all seasons. I do my workouts. And do everything i need to do. But i spend that time because i know when i come here. I'm fully embraced in football. Yeah it's been going. Well i mean. I think this is the best how to do it. Especially gets spags defense for the very multiple throw a lot of different looks at you have to know when you can hold the ball a little longer and take that shot and get the baud your hand and let these guys make plays in blessed enough to have a lot of good players around me so all get the ball in my hands. those guys are usually making things happen. Yeah that's that's a lot of money. I'll say that I knew that it was going up for auction. I found out to go for that much and shows that businesses been growing forever and i remember clutching cards. A little kid with my dad and to see that how it's really blown up these days guys like widely and stuff like that opening those boxes. I it really is a cool thing to see especially when it has your name on it. I'll about all out there. But i mean i don't know the internet of those dues do that may definitely use it as an investment. I'm sure they'll try to sell it later for more money by after good about this. The other day remark that convey that keeping doing a sense. I mean you do in the sense that you're trying to win every single day And that starts out here in training camp. If you i mean every single year i come into it. I'm trying to win every so again. I'm trying to go twenty. No nineteen or whatever it is It's really hard to do this while it has been done. Really one time But at the same time you're trying to go with that mentality of your win every single day so that when you get to those games as you have the best chance to win every single game you said it out loud here and haven't said it out loud here. I mean. I think i here and they understand it but at the same time you gotta keep it in perspective. We understand a long process going throughout this entire season So trying to do whatever we can to win every single day as practiced film room whatever that is put us in the best opportunities..
