"We got a lot of guys can make plays you know across the board like you said it at all position. So you know it's about it's about putting together. It's about you know executing and making sure we're we're on the same page and You know in my role that I'm making the right decision to to get the ball a guy that that you know has a chance to make a place. So so like you said, we we have weapons. We got a lot of guys who can who can make plays and you know it's You know up to us to make sure You know we're doing doing what we're supposed to. We're executing the offense a final question for me. Daniel. You know and I told the story this morning in regards of being Phil Simms talking about when we used to play in your situation, we look at our schedule and we go my God I can't believe I play that team I gotTa play this team I got to play, and they always seem like they were all the best defensive teams and was looking at your schedule and obviously it's going to be a very difficult start. And I know, you don't look past that first game with the Pittsburgh steelers but it's the steelers bears forty niners in Rams, all teams that have continuity which seems to be the word and the NFL these days you're going through your second training, Camp With a new coaching staff, a new system, not new players though with the exception of Andrew. Thomas. And maybe a couple of guys in the offensive line for the most part, you have all the guys you played with last year when you look at that schedule, did you have like? A little bit of the colts what's like villain I used to have back in the day? I think you know something I learned last year is is You know every team every defense in this league is is good and and You know obviously there's there's teams who likes to have that new top nudity been together. But you know every every team you play every week is gonNA. Be You know a challenge in and You know that's part of part of this league you know I'm just as I'm sure you know and you know regardless of who the opponent is. It's about coming in you know ready to play and and handling your business. As team and and as a unit. Last thing for me for Daniel Jones giants quarterback it's been a bizarre year as we know it seems like every day something stranger happens have you envisioned what it's going to be like playing these empty stadiums I. Mean Baseball's one thing. But these football stadiums are monstrous and I know there might be some stadiums that have ten, twelve, thousand fans but metlife stadium's I kind of antibody any any thoughts go through your head what's going to feel like? Yeah I. Mean I thought about a little bit. I think it'll be it'll be different I don't know exactly You know what's going to happen as far as playing. you know music or crowd noise or you know what that situation is, but you know it'll be different. But you know we're going to embrace it and and You know it'd be some. You said, you know like you said, a lot of teams are dealing with maybe not the not all teams but you know it's just just just part of it this year and and we're going to brace it Daniel I lied I have I do have one more question for you and I can go on and on and on with you Gimme what it is like for an NFL player on a daily basis going to training camp. The first thing you do in terms of testing. And all the protocols that you have to deal with on a daily basis. Yes, right now, So, he fill out a questionnaire on our phones and You know that since the team asking you if you have any symptoms or. anything like that. So then once you once you do that, go in and get your temperature taken. we have a little trailer set up in the parking lot. So you get your temperature taken dear, swab tests and then you're good to go. So obviously, there's you know different protocols and different procedures in the building that that were you know practicing but as far as the actual testing, you know it's pretty simple I, think that you know take you about about five minutes. Tops to get all that done. So you know I think as a team as as an organization You know certainly feel like we're doing doing a great job. you know maintaining. All the guidelines laid out by by medical officials and try and do all. We can to make sure we have a safety giants quarterback. Daniel Jones, you got one more boom. Good Luck Daniel with very best and Hopefully things called wealthy early this year and thanks for joining us this morning. Yeah. Thanks for having me. All right. There you go. Daniel. "Still need to be fixed this upcoming off season if they've got him in, is the one making those decisions or not they need to be addressed if the giants want to end this cycle of continuous. Lack of ability to perform in games that they need to play at the top level, we want to get to all of those points, but the one thing that circles back to something we've talked about on the quick take show Chris was Daniel Jones's struggles to find open receivers. We were able to confirm our assumptions by watching the tape and also from some data analytics from NFL's next Gen stats he had the highest height coverage throw percentage at twenty, five percent and the average separation for receivers and the giants was not good at all Evan Ingram had a decent day with about four yards, but everybody was close to around two. and. I, think CJ board didn't even get over one yard of separation. So that is really really not what you WanNa see from your receivers and it's either them struggling to get open or a lack of ability to scheme them open yet in fact, I would say that. A problem on both ends A. Jason Garrett has typically relied on receivers to be their own separators. He doesn't use a whole lot of route combinations that are designed to create separation. Pat. Shurmur. Did that a lot But. Ben mcadoo and Jason Garrett. They both kind of leave a little bit more in isolation routes they. They like their guys to win with their own route running, and that's just something the giants receivers. Are Than Sterling, shepherd and. Evan Ingram WHO's helped out a little bit by being a tight end A. Major of their alignments. They tend to get a little bit more separation. The giants receivers just do not separate well, and that was one of the concerns coming in. When he had when we had him on Damn Zoo to raise that concern that the giants receivers aren't natural separators outside of Sterling Shepherd and we are seeing that. And then there's also Daniel Jones he just keeps attempting passes into tight windows, and again, part of that is because he doesn't have any choice the. Receivers aren't opening the windows part of it is the scheme and part of it is his decision making process, and that's part of the reason why we We saw basically the exact same interception thrown two weeks in a row. There was another interception where the defender just straight up dropped it. Those. Things are a problem and. He doesn't get the rookie path anymore even though he hasn't started a full sixteen. Games yet. He is in his second year as the giants starter and what makes things so much worse in my opinion. Is like you said, it's it's the second year. He doesn't get the rookie pass anymore, but he's really not getting a lot of help from his receivers and that's proven by statistical fact that he's just not getting open receivers to get the ball to, and in some cases, he's trying a little bit too hard. That's not an excuse for Daniel Jones that's still needs to be Daniel Jones finding better better opportunities to get the ball out and create some yardage instead of still forcing it into tight areas. But one thing that we've learned after three weeks. Is that this? Style of offense is not working very well for the giants receivers you talked about how? Damn. Zuta pointed out to us before the season and you also painted a really good picture of how these receivers in the giants are just not good at creating their own separation. It is a lot of isolation routes and Golden Tate, is not the same player he used to. Be. He's on the older side for receiver not able to get open as effectively as he usually is we've barely seen a lot of production from him Daria Slayton since that first big game teams have been very aggressive in trying to shut him down not allowing him to get open over the top. I can't even remember the last time we've seen Darius late in. Have a opportunity to make a play off of a deep route because he's just not getting open or Daniel Jones is getting rid of it too quickly to a receiver that is in tie coverage. It also doesn't help that Sterling Shepherd is not on the field to be the only guy who can create a little bit more of separation. So this receiving group is just not working with what Jason Garrett is trying to run on top of that Dana Jones's prone to still forcing the ball out his hands. To get it somewhere even if those opportunities are there is a second year player and he doesn't know when not to force the ball that's become very clear after multiple weeks of interceptions. So something has to give it. This point there needs to be some type of an adjustment in the offense of philosophy if this type of play calling is just not leading to open receivers the. Only guy that's getting open as Evan Ingram, and he is not been entirely consistent with catching the ball. No, he hasn't been consistent and yet there was some excitement in the off season about Jason Garrett how much success he has had with Jason Witten and tight ends in Dallas that this could be a breakout, your ingram but we're still seeing ingram in a lot of the same. Roles and usage in. Route designs that we've seen him in the last three years where the a lot of shallow concepts. A lot of. Comeback Routes The giants are not using his. Athletic. To its fullest potential, they're really treating him a lot more like a big possession receiver than. A potential big play threat and. Downfield, threat they. They are attacking the seams of defenses with him. The. Attempted trick play was interesting and given his speed that could have been a big play, but the execution of it was just bad. So. It's frustrating to see that the giants don't have the weapons they thought they would end weapons they do have just they can't seem to get the potential out of them Chris. The one big thing on offense that transition into or conversation about personnel issues that has now come into full picture for us is Nick Gates is struggles at center. It has become very clear that gates is just not capable of getting the job done as a starting center and I understand the guy's only played three games at the position. But at some point you have to realize he just doesn't have what it takes. To play that position, there are a lot of plays from the past few games and very specifically against this game against the forty niners where he's just straight up not blocking anybody's missing players go on to the second level. His angles are very poor. He is making mistakes in picking up the right players and pass protection and sliding the wrong way instead of reading the pressure that's coming towards. He's also not properly engaging with interior defensive linemen leading to a lot of upfront pressure on rushing plays, and I hate to blame one guy in particular for problems. But Nick Gates is a very weak spot. When the giants try to run the ball between both be gaps, they just can't get any push from that spot because Nick Gates is constantly allowing penetration and off air we were both wondering if maybe the giants got who we expected to be the. The strong point of this offensive line, the foundation of this offensive line we want we wondered if they were. Trying too hard to compensate for gates and that has led to their own regression decrease in level of play. However, you want to term it. Really the China offensive line as a whole is not playing well and. You don't WanNa stay safe. It starts with Nick Gates but the center is an important position and yet he is really struggling he's struggling with his technique. Keeping his pad level down. Like you talk about reading pressure picking up the correct guy stunts and twists and blitzes, and it's The giants I think almost half you wondering if it's time to. Give Spencer, polio try maybe not bench nick gates per se but just say you're we'd like you but you're not ready yet you know we need a steady presence in the middle just if only get protection calls,.

"What part of you wants them to keep losing? Does the interesting thing right now, If you look throughout the league and we're early man, we're only going to be a quarter of the way through the season for the Broncos after Thursday. Well, look at the teams. That you think will be Near the bottom. You think that jets move on from same Donald? Do you think the Giants would move on from Daniel Jones? If you think know all of a sudden If the Broncos are the 3rd 4th worst team. In the NFL. There's a chance A good chance. That you could end up with Trevor Laurence or Justin Fields. And I know how quickly move we move on from Drew lock but understand this He spent a second round pick on Drew lock. He had plenty of questions around him. Would you take? Trevor Laurence or Justin Fields, Overdrew lock. And it's It's a It's a bad spot to be, and I wish that tanking. And I guess the Astros are a great example of how tanking works in baseball. Like I wish the fact that the Rockies had the eighth pick in this next draft if that meant anything. It doesn't It doesn't mean anything. But having a high draft pick in the NFL, it means a whole lot. It means a whole lot. So if you believe that Blake Bortles is the best quarterback on the roster and gives the Broncos a chance to win some of the games. Do you really want them to go to Blake Bortles? Or would you rather they just ride it out with Brett Ribbon? I think that The thing here is what do you need more? Do you need to see if Jeff Driskel What? Where do you want to see him for? No winning. I mean, say what you will about Blake Bortles. The guy is accomplished more in his career than Jeff Driscoll has And his Brett Rippen decidedly worse than Jeff Driskel. So what is the appeal of having Jeff Driskel in there? Does it give you that much higher of a chance to win? Is it? Maurizio citing than playing Brett ripping I know you're deciding between Garbage and trash. Not to be offensive to those two guys. But in terms of No talent level. You're not choosing between two supremely talented individuals. Release. You don't think so. Least Brett ripping gives you little bit of the unknown. Right? Just a little bit of the unknown. I have low expectations for both. Right? I saw somewhere that Jeff Driscoll was working out as a wide receiver. For the Bangles before they cut him. Like, Think about what an unbelievable indictment that is of a guy's skill level that the Bangles are like. Yeah, I don't think you can quarterback this team. But the lines and the Broncos wanted him. To me If I'm Vic Fangio and I get the borders, part Ideo. All right. You don't want to throw anybody into That situation, and that's why I've tweeted out a few times over the last 24 hours. That board I think borders is your starter against New England. I d'oh. I believe that is the case. You could have brought in a lot of different quarterbacks. And he chose Blake Bortles. There's something that they like about him. He's not just a roster filler, and I know that seems laughable. It is laughable to me. But there's a reason they picked Blake Bortles. Right. Knowing that Drew lock was going to be out. I think Blake Bortles is the starter against New England. But for the Jets game this week Just give Brett rip in the start. Why go back to Jeff Driskel? You saw nothing. You thought you saw something against Pittsburgh? And then it got so much worse. Against the box. So start Bret ripping on Thursday. If the guy goes crazy. It has a great day, even though it's against the Jets. Give him the start against New England. Why not? I think what's probably going to happen is Brett ripping will come out. He'll be pedestrian. Too bad. And then The Broncos can just insert Blake Bortles. For the game against Ah, New England. I think that's the direction we're going. White short week. God decide between Driscoll and and ripping, so we'll see what Fangio decides. But is there any argument at this point to play Jeff Driskel on Thursday? I just don't think there is 5 to 29872 will take a break and Talk about the Nuggets, where perhaps they fell flat, the most against the Lakers. And the potential answer to those problems is already on the roster. That's after we take a look at traffic. From the chief Vapor traffic center. Here's an extra sports and look at the streets, South bound Cascade and you went direct fought more and Mesa crash that may still be blocking no other accidents or stalls reported. I 25 through the springs looking good moving along nicely. I'm Chuck Squires. That's traffic..

It’s Super Bowl Week

"David Tyree catch Malcolm Butler picked what do you want to force always forward to is super bowls of Jim Nagy the the senior bowl Reese's senior bowl director joins us now you're the show opens up a foreman plan Jim you know I love bringing those two losses up over the four winds because they are the two of the more historic losses we've ever seen in Super Bowl history how are your partner I'm doing great intake from young Courtney yeah that that's the worst part of Superbowl time for me now with all the highlight packages before lead up to the game always showed up to play its role and you were part of obviously yes as I mentioned to both of them before we get into the game and taking us behind the scenes what it's like for coaches scouts during Super Bowl week listless codes back to the Reese's senior bowl when you go back and look at the film and practice and the guys who really stood out give us a few names for every NFL team RB well and fell fans team is not in the Superbowl a few people that that could help their team coming up next season and I wanna drafted in April yeah it's you know we've actually been doing that the last couple days in the office that would be that you could director the game week itself I I'm walking around in and you know talking to GM's and coaches and trying to reconnect with people at an end this year we had some we took some roster hits during the week so I was trying to fill it roster holster practice so we better go back to the tape but a couple of years but a bunch of players that have stood out but dental dams to wide receiver from Baylor had a great week six six three two hundred fifteen pounds what is the right of Baylor another one Antonio Guinea gold and is another big receiver from liberty six four two twenty had a great week chase Claypool with six four two thirty really good we got a Notre Dame another deep inside of all Josh you Jay really stood out you know it's a linebacker for Michigan he can play off the ball he can play Alanis courage you can rush the passer are you sure all of that during the practice week so the cool thing was during the week this this your guys we we we we voted on our practice player the week we had that we have the players do it and I I felt like that meant a lot more to them that it came from their peers and and we really have to position group they went against the most during the week so line voted on the line no corners vote in a white out invites versus so I posted those on our on our Twitter and everything so everyone could see those entry now going back to watch the tape I think the players really got it right we love talking about quarterbacks it really is never too early to start stacking your board will who stood out to you the most in a jail it hurts is obviously the big name coming into the week but by the end of the week where do you I guess you're one through three who should we be looking at that position what are your according Jaylen with it was a big name come in a week if you the big week all week you know just from is tied to the state of Alabama with our game beautiful Beale everything it up did up in Tuscaloosa I DO and had a really strong week he really did you got better you know you got better as the week went on kind of like Daniel Jones did last year Justin Herbert what the overall practice player of the week again voted on by the players that that he was the game MVP as well so just in case a minute really he lit up every day he's got everything you need the big very intelligent death politic you got a strong arm he was accurate all week in really what he showed behind the scenes with the answer a lot of questions that people might have about the leadership and I I don't know why they were questions out there about that but the time Justin he's got a he's got a really good way about him teammates really responded to him all week we put him in a bunch of different situations where you have to show that leadership he just to be just a great kid I got a talking to dad they they did a great job with this on it it made me think yet enjoyed love would be the other one throw that grow in that mix and their direct your junior from Utah state who really talented really natural thrower you know do a great ball all week we just they were so far we've just gone through the one on one at that and a little bit of the team here at seventeen got to the game yet but but Jordan had a really strong week and then in the game entity Gordon for Washington state but the offer the player the game for his side you know he was backed up Gardner Menchu last year in Washington state if you've gotten sandlot look them up all or two and then you get the game to do just make things happen so many did that on Saturday the other quarterback group is really strong this year Jim nagging at the senior bowl director here with us on it pretty fits image on ESPN radio according Cronin infer Freddy I mean if it's Simmons and an elaborate a little bit more on Jordan love because talking to a tech coach Gary Andersen a Utah state he likened him to possibly when it comes to do the draft stock the next to Josh Alan where his stock could skyrocket during Super Bowl week DD do you agree with that do you think he had that kind of a week yes interval week but I got you here right coach any any any you know he's but he's wanted a lot of places and I think that your Jordan came into the year with a really high expectations there was a lot of media types that first round great Doug Jordan enter in sort of the league so that we you know him being a junior graduate are fortunate enough to get him and he didn't have the kind of the year that that maybe a lot of people expected at Utah state I think the no the coaching change you know at definitely had something to do with it it's it's hard it's hard runner whose game the first year that's why what Joe burrow did with Joe Brady coming in for the St Louis with you know even more impressive like I don't think Joe burrows got enough credit for that he was running a scheme for the first time but you know in Jordan I think Jordan might've been feeling the expectations of of the first round step two we don't have a chance to really talk about that when he came down to mobile last week but but the judge with the Josh our comparison it is a very good one you know Josh was the guy that statistically didn't have a great last year while making that came down to to your call and let it up but we all know how that turned out he went seventh overall so could Jordan get back up in the top ten I mean I I don't know that I mean that's that's pretty lofty but he did he did everything you could do down here you such a natural pro respond watch all week so it'll just be like you're the profits worry and up but I do think it's gonna be a starter at the next level one of my favorite assignments that we do every year at the senior bowl from ESPN will go around and ask outs kind of for their take on what they're seeing it practice and since it is Superbowl week it's always fun to hear the comparisons to guys were being you are playing in the game currently it in Harrison Bryant from Florida Atlantic one of our so you know one of our reporters ask out and he said quote he can beat George cattle two point now do you see that sort of comparison you know here so it's really good the past game it really is I mean Kittles kills really developed in a such a good blocker into get Georgia's coming out of that I will program where they used the tide and a lot of a lot of scrimmage though this from a background standpoint here isn't going to be a little bit behind for work short was coming out in any not quite as big a body of George kill but in the past can definitely you know higher than what the Mackey award for a reason because he can you know he's really good after the cat he's he's really athletic you catch the ball it is really good after the catch in which you didn't really see it after you he didn't run a whole you know he did run a a lot of it run a lot of different routes and that's what the that's what the scalp got that the that this week in mobile was with him running all those route that is going to have to do with the next level and his ability to separate get open yeah I mean I think you're the couple tied into this year's group Paris and be in one of them you know a guy Bryson Hopkins from Purdue had a great week out and drop in a small school player gate and had a great week I think I think those three guys might be the you know the first three cat up the board this year what is the deepest position group that you have observed so far you know it's probably what out in again a lot of it has to do with the junior class is really strong at the top with jury duty he Nick in the engine all from Colorado I mean there's a lot of good ones but the senior class is loaded you know we had with a guy come to mobile and it is a little banged up when he got here so we had to you know he didn't pass the physical but Brandon are you calling from Arizona state is a really explosive guy I think he's going to go in the first round and then all those names I mentioned before you know it getting including those K. J. hill mile state with the guy that was voted Platt practice clear the week from his side of it from inside of the team so then it is wide receiver crew it's all going to depend on where that run happens you know I think there's teams that are probably feel like they've got it well enough where they can wait to the third or fourth round and get a starter you know maybe hit on the next Terry McLaurin who is in the funeral last year when the third round it as you guys know how to add an unbelievable you rookie year for for the Redskins so but it you know how many first rounder that'll just be you know when they start going they start calling everyone kind of panic that it it starts taking them so depending on when their run goes it'll be interesting but there's a bunch of first round talent type receivers Mr strapped Reese's senior bowl director four time Super Bowl champion Jim Nagy here with us on ESPN radio Corning Corning ami AMP at Simmons and let's get to the Superbowl you you watch that game also as much as anybody and you scouted take us

"Even last year, he probably would have played that role wrong, not swept into safety behind him, calling out the route. He played it perfectly. He remind me of Navarro and Patrick the way he's playing the game right now in the run game and adding in on blitz precious, So he's a guy to look forward to. Taking another leap as well. Yeah, He knew that flight call and Ah, chart alerted the tomb and they had a play, and he dropped into the hook's own. They knew they were going to have an Ingram on that. Jason Verrett is a really intriguing guy. When I look at the guys that air Merely filling in for now, and guys that I think could have a prominent role on this team. You know, Obviously, Ross really played a lot of snaps when George Kettle comes back, and you were so right about Jordan read Dante. He is a He is a matchup nightmare in a difference maker and he was the number one. He and I worked with a number one go to guys on Kyle's call sheet. But Moret To me has just been hurt. What? We're talking about a pro ball player. Now mostly is a good player as well. Witherspoon. I think it's a better player than Witherspoon. But let's just say Sherm, and the injury lingers a little bit longer, and he's obviously gonna miss at least of Philadelphia game and we'll see if mostly, Khun get out of concussion protocol. But what would you like to see Jason? Very red, have ah, more of a role on this defense proceeding forward. Absolutely at a training camp that he has. Everybody was raving about the coaches. The player Injuries that he went through is just a tough situation and to be a pro bowler in 2015 go through injury. Then they finally get healthy. I think that he's earned that opportunity. And he played well yesterday. He had a couple of people use. He did. Well, technically, I think that it was, if it mostly healthy, I think it should be mostly on once I read on the other. I think they're just too much of a variant. And 23 is too much of a variance in game sometimes, like all pro. Mostly, he's been looking like a below average player. I don't really know how to 40 100 Defence feels about him right now, but if I had to pick two Red and mostly what What if what if Sherman's healthy and it comes down to Sherman, one side and mostly or ever read on the other? Which one would you trick? A lot of things that you make those guys compete, and it's always better when you know that if you have a guy over your shoulder, and if you don't play your technique well, if you don't tackle well, if you have busted coverages You're coming out again out of the game, So I would say whoever's plan better they play at the right quarterback position. Don't they take us into the mind of an athlete because I'm sure as hell Not that, but Kyle Nelson had trouble snapping. It wasn't physical, Kyle said after the game. It was mental. So when you make mistakes, maybe it sticks with you. How do you get out of that kind of right? I don't know It's tough, and you have to know that there's so many long snappers just gunning for that job. You know guys just sitting around snapping a million balls a day, and that's probably why he fell down. I understand this game. They understand that you have one job. Your job is to get the ball to the holder and in a specific time and to make sure it's perfect because you can lose big games like that. You never wanted to come down to. Ah, holder napping where you lost your entire season and your dreams Because of that, So I heard that they have guys coming in for work out. I know a few albums, specifically one named Rule, Scott. Who's been gunning for this job for a long time, and we'll see where it goes. But you can't have those half of mishaps that they will cost you a game against a good party. I think the only major, you know negative. There were some injuries to mostly and Jordan rate and a few others McCain and later in the game. Was Kyle's performance, and it's just so unlike Kyle Nelson, but something's going on with him. And also the way the 40 Niners were attacked by Daniel Jones and the the read option the pull option, raiding the option to pull it. And we saw Tyler Murray does it a little bit differently, But Carson Wentz is coming in this week. So the 40 Niners may have been surprised that Daniel Jones said this much. Don't say they're not going to be surprised this week and have it ready. Just how did you see them? It seemed like you know, Kwon got you just chased a little bit too much. Dion Jordan got caught, And that was the one place that really gassed him yesterday. Absolutely. And I talked about this beginning of season when they open No. One calamari. You have to be cognizant and you have to understand how to rush these mobile quarterbacks. You can go row. There's times out. There were guys are thinking that they're going to pick a side or to sign on the back trying to block them of guards on the block. You Just stand your ground and push him into the quarterback. Make that pocket shrink where he feels like, okay, you suffocate me still has one guy opens up a gap he sees Green grass. They're going to take that lane and you're not going to get a fact. And you're actually hurting the football team. By choosing to rush this way. You have to be mindful of the way that you rushed thes quarterback Whatever. Defensor and three man Rush four Man Rush five man rush. Everybody has to do their job to keep him in here, make them forced them to throw the football because they're weak. Dante. I felt really bad for Dion Jordan on that first one because he had no clue where the ball was. It was kind of flipping his head. It looked like a cartoon. How bad is the film session? When they have to watch that, like, are people gonna laugh or is the coach going to scream at him? How does it work when you just get completely embarrassed like that? Well after a win, they'll laugh and they'll be giving, but they'll try to correct it after a loss. That's when you can get a little heated right. That's when the Eagle Conference to play on people's feelings. Get hurt. That's what you need is a football team. You need to hold no punches When you're in the mean room. You're not protecting anybody still it because at the end of the day, it's all along cause and that's winning. So we allow one guy to get away with something silly on the football field back from crosses the football game. Later and you better believe that teams are watching. So after when, yes, all giggles, you know, corrected, but after law if it's not too friendly in there Dante Whitner, as always, man. Great stuff on a Monday. We appreciate it. We talk to you next week. All right. See you guys next week at Dante Whitner, Dante Hittner on Twitter before and after the games. We talked about fashion every week, so I don't want to bring a fashion, but I am looking at the video. I think Garcia might have won this week's Dante slow playing it. We're saving it for the big game. Sunday night football Sunday. Now your ideals and Collins were too for you. We'll break it out. On Sunday, and Dion Jordan didn't get exposed on that, but he played better than I thought he would. He played more snaps than I thought he would. He had that fumble on an 80 Evan Ingram when they tossed it to the tight end, and Kevin Givens kind of blew that up. And then late in the game, Johnny gave a little shoulder dip. To get around the rookie Andrew Thomas. See if he played better than I thought he would in a Ziggy was there so They?.

Jason Garrett joins Giants as new offensive coordinator

"Yeah I got a new job Jerry Jones is right he told us that Jason Garrett will be coaching in the NFL come next season and in fact he will be doing just that he's been hired by Joe judge and the New York Giants to be there all offensive coordinator we had a great day together you know you know I didn't know Joe real well been around about a couple different occasions I good conversations with them really good football conversations and now he and I know a lot of the same people I work for coach saving you work for coach David coaches always said such great things about Jo and so many other people that he's been around that I've been around said the same thing Jason Garrett on the giants in the huddle podcast and he was eager to make comments right away I'm happy for him I think as much as the Dallas Cowboys needed a fresh start and they're thrilled about their new head coach Mike McCarthy Jason Garrett needed something fresh and new as well I I tease the bunch up before that the cowboys actually made the announcement but my hash tag was free Jason Garrett let him go do something else let him go work in a different capacity although it is interesting right that he stays in the NFC east I thought the board to be really humorous why the giants though that was the question that he was that's right off the top just a first class organization and you you think about the history and tradition the New York Giants franchise in and what the merits of build the what the tissues of bill and all the great teams all the great coaches all the great players will get a part of this organization throughout its history and you know when you're playing this organization like I was four years you feel that Jason Garrett the new offense of coordinator who gets to work with none other than Daniel Jones interesting to hear what giants fans think about having chasing gear at again with inside the organization now jump to their often through coordinator spot where he was so maligned even after callin more to go over the plate calling full painting all the often whoa that lets is beyond as the the Dallas Cowboys had a really good off into season that was not the reason why they didn't end up by winning the end of season getting back to the playoffs in the stats for Jack NZ Kelly it don't tell you the whole story but their office of numbers were better than a good portion of what we saw from the yeah the rest of the NFL Jack was over four thousand yards as the Ellie and continues to do what it is that he's paid to do and yet still a lot of people pointing to Jason Garrett because the often didn't do enough well now here is going to be working with the second year quarterback in New York in Daniel Jones I want to start by and really what Joe said and in its introductory press conference you know I have an outsider's perspective on the giant a great respect for the organization great respect for the players on the team that would compete against but again it's it's coming from the outside I can't wait to get on the inside and and start to work with some of these guys and you know you mentioned Daniel Jones we thought a lot of coming out of college we weren't in the market for a quarterback it in the first round the year that he came out at the same time you go through that evaluation process and you know anybody who was around him in our organization with the cowboys just thought the world of does it sound excited I mean for sure most of the questions that he's been answering over the past few months a bit about his job status and about why the cowboys were under achieving but still he felt rejuvenated yes like he's really looking forward to this

New York Jets head coach Adam Gase responds to support

"Adam Gates in his first season as head head. Coach of the New York jets his record today to end seven nevertheless interesting time for a vote of confidence jet CEO. Christopher Johnston said yesterday Ah Adam gays will return for the two thousand twenty season here is the jets CEO. I want to ensure you there would be no changes changes in coaches Adam. How's the trust of this team as the trust Sam? Joe's trust he has my trust. He's a good man. He's a good coach. There is a lot of work to. There's a great deal of to everyone understands And we're just getting started. I feel really good good Memphis team moving forward anytime you get support from ownership the way that the staff Scott supported. The old has gone way. Obviously we wanted We got a lot of games are jobs improve this team and go out and try to win games every week. And he's with us through every step within our communication with him so he kind of knows what we've been trying to do how we're we're trying to fix things that are that are wrong so no to get his support for him to Kinda see what we're trying to do. It's that's an important step fluish. Well that was Adam Gatien course responding to the SAGA lineup. Was He trying to avoid eye. Contact Tech High. We're out here. Do you find that the timing at all interesting or Steve. Young made the point. Yesterday Robert was a good time to do it. So people stop asking the question. I mean it is a good time. Just say. Hey He's going to be here next year but look he's been there one year having hasn't been a great year for him but you know look overall head coaching record. He's about forty a two percent. When winning percentage he wins about forty two percent of the time? So you know. It doesn't look so great for him moving forward but look he's got the support Ownership they're going to give him one more year and I can guarantee that next year if they're in the same position that they're not going to be so lenient on giving him another year. So Oh you look at what. NFL coaches are nowadays. They have guaranteed contracts. I highly doubt they WanNa give him a nice contract and then just release him halfway through his I well it gets to be an expensive decision. Yeah and that's a really great point because ownership obviously is invested in their pick. They want their pick to look good exam. You know you don't WanNa WanNa give up on what you decided so quickly although that has happened to certain coaches inside right around the league. But you can't forget that even even when Todd Bowles was there that the jets were ten and six in their first season and it was really bad. Blow to this team to the supper loss against the Miami Dolphins and just some of the adversity city that they've gone through since Particularly when there's been a lot of expectations with Sam darnold presidents on that team. Well Yeah. He was brought in large part to work with a young quarterback to develop SAM. Darnold help him take the next step. What's interesting is that they share the same stadium with the giants are struggling as well? Now in this case Pat Shurmur is in his second year as a head coach. But look they're coming off the bye. They've lost six straight. What's the word around his future? Well Adam gays was asked recently just how secure he is in his job in one of the ways in which which he retorted. What's to say I'm built for this? Just projecting confidence which you would expect the head coach to do. But I would be remiss to mention that some of the reporters in New York noted that was kind of the same something that Ben mcadoo said three weeks before the giants got rid of him and and clearly this is not the adversity or excuse me what they were looking to results wise to be having right now coming off of in two years of What they endured under Ben mcadoo but the reality is promising as Daniel Jones has looked particularly when he's throwing the ball With with the return of Saquon this is not what they were looking for. They're still suffering losses even with saquon on the field. I mean he has not had over sixty five rushing yards in the last three times he played. Hey only had two one hundred rushing yard games. That was in the first two weeks Daniel Jones continues to have issues with the interceptions. Fumbles and things of what have you and it has has. It was altered in wins. And you can't neglect the fact that this is in New York and teams with that media pressure there as well. It won't stop. It's hard to perform with a rookie quarterback though in this in this league it's not they had veteran it didn't it didn't work out. He still there by the way. He's still there. But look in this league. It's hard for a young quarterback to come in and be successful and I just think that we're witnessing growing pains of a young quarterback trying to figure his way Out through a hard schedule last year at this time he was done you know now. He's about halfway through so I mean it's it's a lot more difficult. I agree with you. Rob The only issue of course with the New York giants dances. They've had a lot of these same problems whether it was a long-term veteran quarterback or a yet stroup Such a great point. And so then you start to have to ask other kinds of questions

NFL Week 8 Monday Night Football Betting Picks: Miami Dolphins at Pittsburgh Steelers

"Welcome in to the the board podcast powered by Fox bet week eight Monday night football edition dolphins steelers y'all are pretty excited for which would be a barn burner of a football game I'm your host firm joined by my colleague coast the one the only pain insider lots of enthusiasm I'm trying pain I'm not a premature whistle blower like we saw in Nashville but I still haven't positive mindsets get this thing going believe it you can achieve it and it wasn't the results were looking for either the college or professional football rain six but we persevere we continue to plow ahead and no we have a long season left in front of us so as we do every Monday we'll start the good the bad and the ugly we of course Dr Chow waiting in the wings to break down what the JJ watt injury means for the Houston Texans and he'll update us and some of our favorite quarterbacks the pain. Let's go glass half full what did you see this weekend that had you excited and brimming with optimism where do we start so much Scott the forty niners because I always leave things are more impressive when prior to the game it's not supposed to look that way so we a significant professional money come in on Carolina so it makes the win even more impressive to me personally because I just feel like they exceeded expectation and I managed and I think we both did here right to avoid this game now we dead value is certainly on Carolina like numbers wise right when you look at the number got six six and a half earlier in the week like Mason Rudolph was catching that same number in his first start ever on the road so value is I get it but I think we talked Thursday which is like a horrific matchup right Carolina doesn't have left tackle Bosa continues to like full-blown just eat out there I think he's got the highest pressure rate he's on pace to set the highest pressure rate for any rookie in NFL history right now kyle kind of talked about this the one above it average pass defense he played he struggled against earlier in the season which was Jacksonville the forty niners would obviously be even tougher than that he was the most inaccurate quarterback in terms of completion percentage expectation of sixteen percent below expectations the worst so far this week and we saw that at there wasn't very good can't stop the run we talked about that Cohen Short once he went out for the season and there was a big check mark there offensively from what I'm what I'm seeing from the forty niners is is Kyle Shanahan is just ahead of his time with what he's doing even though it's very basic right it's I think he's in this concerts jokingly kind of the real inventor of the exotic smashmouth right the ball is just like spread around there's all these interchangeable parts wide receivers are getting handoffs but like at its core it's very simple offense and I think the scary part here todd is like you look or seven and no right now in the NFC but they're without their left tackle there without the right tackle there without their versatile full-back call us check and I think I could wrong about this and it's probably not worth the money was paid but I feel like Jimmy G. has another gear that we haven't seen yet either which makes this forty-nine seem really scary well and I think some of that's got to be by design if you're Kyle Shanahan why reveal all your cards when you don't have to right now and then there's no doubt that Jimmy G. High profile passing attack is somewhere there I imagine as they can can you to build chemistry with Emmanuel Sanders able to get into the end zone and his forty niners debut it makes his team even scarier and I know pain we don't talk a lot about futures here because guys don't have access turn prices and you Never WanNa do hyperbole but right now when you look at the NFC or the forty niners the team to beat the more complete package outside of experience levels than the New Orleans saints tough to you obviously love with the saints are doing especially defensively that front seven has really taken another step I do feel like whoever gets home field advantage because the saints home field advantage so massive you'd give the you'd leaned that way with ever team had home field advantage certainly the games get a little bit tougher here in the next few weeks off for the forty niners so we'll see what they're made of but man ah X. still kind of leaned saints especially if they were the team that got home field advantage going to be interesting NFC playoff picture definitely a number of teams on their best day more than capable of putting up crooked numbers and more importantly getting stops on the defensive side but aside from the forty niners pain or are there any other teams and our individual performances that really stood out to you Daniel Jones right if you're a giants fan you have to pretty encouraged in whether you could've met seventeen or six I mean that's it's kind of a relevant at this point you know and I liked I saw accuracy wise again delivered a completion percentage five and a half percent greater than expectations four touchdowns no picks and I think that that last part there with the no picks is really impressive when you look at how aggressive he was six most aggressive quarterback in week eight so far obviously two games tonight but of all the quarterbacks that have played so far six most aggressive and the other thing is when you look at how he's doing it right now in general young quarterback he's been pressured a shit ton right forty six percent of its drawbacks pressured on the season most in the NFL among qualifying quarterbacks and he's this young young he hasn't flinched yet so I I really like I think you have to be happy for your giants fan of what the future could be with Daniel Jones so fantastic performance although in a loss did did get back door there so I know a lot of giants backers were happy that was the sharp side again closed five and a half some places so Daniel Jones got the pros money and look good again that he did one ill advised throw cost him dearly early in the game came back up the fumble yeah it was the fumble that probably could have gone I mean you it's a turnover no matter how you slice it but interception fumble just not sure he's doing it to throw but for anybody to watch that game was interesting there was a bad penalty at the tail end of the first half where the giants allegedly rough the ultimate leads the three for the lions and changed the dynamic a little bit in that context wonder if the giants would have actually had a chance to win that game outright if things had played differently but for alliance do nothing but bad luck I guess they wrote a break or two in that extra appointments made things a little wonky to some of the decision making it the nail to me how to chase a two and it's one of those things where you just start chasing points and you open that Pandora's box and if you don't convert things continue to create that downward spiral but a good performance from Daniel Jones you mentioned his second career game over three hundred yards four touchdowns then a nice job against a depleted lions secondary with the good I want to add one other into it of course it was in a losing effort Mike Evans yet again puts up Gargantuan numbers eleven catches hundred ninety eight yards and two touchdowns but one of those things that I'm not quite sure why the bucks don't look for Evans and crunch time when he was the stat stuffer all game long and the titans apparently had no answer in their secondary starting to get doubled a little bit dried movement of the slot to get them open and got doubled again so you know he had forty four percent of the buccaneers area are gesture die but obviously not enough however no you want to praise him and you probably didn't turn on the game quick enough but he did have the bad drop on the opening drive in the end zone the bucks were forced to settle for three instead of seven I did I did see that drop bring it up I do want to ask you about that when you throw through a little bit of congestion I know Matt Melons in your hands catch the ball all right so I wanted to find out so you your opinion is now well documented around Mike Evans if you're going to be elite God damn elite all right so that that's where I'm going with it was just really annoying game not going to complain right side wrong result and you go into halftime with the two hundred fifteen yards seventy one yard edge you trail that's a problem and then I thought we were gold right you fight your way back you blow you get up six late in the third quarter and then you know you hope officials can do their job good for Devon white by the way rookie did a fantastic job there sniff out fake laid to feel them out it was like a WWF and I believe they're wwe now but I'm old so wwf like a clothesline he just sent the snapper into orbit there in the all clearly comes out its return for a touchdown of course they blow their whistle so you can't you can't review it and it was a turnover on downs anyways because it was fourth down so said of a seven air when bucks up three with under Ford ago we were still down four in the problem is that you know you're not gonna your situation where it's four down territory or not kicking field goal to cover the spread for the good guys chase kicked to feel go forty eight yarder right through the UPRIGHTS two minutes to go get outta dodge with a one point loss single text bruce and eh lepers no team bet the board it's all about covering the number not winning games outraged good guy might have done it now if the good come the bad and this one is tough for me to kind of put down pain because I think they were very good for three quarters but it's the kind of game that you have to win on the road you're at the tail end of it's been a mammoth road trip the Oakland raiders finishing the game against Houston Texans were nearly two yards per play better as far as net is concerned and you look they did give up some penalty yards and everything else they had the football a lot less but they had an excellent chance to win the game on the road they outscored in the fourth quarter and to Shawn Watts and make some let real place to get the Texans the outright victory Deshaun Watson in Hopkins it's like the Russell Wilson Lockwood combination those two geysers like carrying goddamn franchise right now because Bill Brian is just continues to be a mess anyways I hate being singular play guy but you're one and you have a chance to kind of I don't WanNa say ice the game with your offense but certainly go up eight or if you decided to be a savage go for the to to put it up nine and there is a plan like second and six from the Houston twenty four in Gruden calls a run play and you'll lose a yard and now you're backed up to third wall and then you Veasley incomplete there and and you settle for a field goal only go for I love Josh Jacobs but the Texans Defense is superior against the run than it is pass in the Texans secondary isn't link absolute shambles with injuries right and they were down another starter who got injured in the game and as an offense you got tyrone Williams back and Jones who you trade four finally like kind of got into the fold now that he understands the offense after you were healthy as you've been at receiver like virtually all season attack the weakness man put it in the air instead then do that in that one specific drive could've put him up potentially two scores if they'd went for two and you rely on your defense against Watson and you got burn so to me there is some some mismanagement there was some playcalling late in that game as you kind of alluded to but they did blow sure well you mentioned mismanagement pain and it's funny you use such a word choice where do we want to go to Chicago bears and how they handled their performance against the chargers so I didn't watch the game because I couldn't dedicate enough time to it I'm GonNa go back and actually watch today it's one of those games that was really intriguing to me because guys that uh yeah I work with love the charger so much and they with the chargers plus four and a half and plus four I didn't see it so when there's games that's where my guys like adamant that this is the side and I don't see it myself on my I gotTa really pay close attention to this and because I have add I can't do that with like watching games so two one on and watch today but as I'm like tracking the play by play and now that I'm like looking at the data we just download it charges were not decide and we had this debate all week long and you may see something different but the charges were not decide but I'll let you share what you saw from the data I mean I'm just looking at just like two hundred and thirty one total yards of offense in the year two thousand nineteen on the road and you're only getting what would have been like three point two closing number I don it doesn't look like just by all the data that that was the right side

Giants vs. Patriots: Preview, prediction, what to watch for

"The pats owes the giants knowing looks to keep its undefeated streak alive histories on New England side since two thousand one the patriots are twenty seven oh at home again starting quarterbacks under the age of twenty five that's good and it's important because Daniel Jones is twenty two and he's on the road tonight and age is one thing but experience is another according to allies New England is one eighteen straight games against first or second year starting quarterbacks making that the long history in NFL history allotted donning stats that are anti giant sorry

"I'm seeing six as well possibly bye. Week is what week eleven eleven yeah so. I mean if he's on if he's on the heavier side of that prediction six weeks you're looking at that by week. People are confused because he had the injuries. A freshman at Penn state nearly missed two weeks so he saying I'm GONNA come back as soon as well but also I'm trying to avoid the attrition. That Levian Bell avoided a year ago and how twenty-six do up in New York wonder. If we still regrets no regrets no regrets. He's got a third string quarterback. Nobody the backfield with them right. Now I mean what did he do. Nobody he was never going to go there and win. The Super Bowl was all about money. You know that I mean you talk about the the sum of the parts and whatever else and you could see this this black cloud gathering over Pittsburgh Levian Bell and Antonio Brown everything else it shouldn't really Stein Don anybody except for all the platitudinous talk out of Mike Tomlin in the off season and they were going to play as a team and so on and so forth you really think about it from the guys that were out there three years ago on this team and they won thirteen games just a couple of years ago you think about the guys that were out on that field and how much worse everything has gotten for every single guy out there from Levian Bath Antonio Brown Martavis Bryant Ben Rothlisberger. Mike Tomlin Todd Haley's out on the curb. I mean nobody is better for that from the voice perspective James Connor Him with the fumbles but I don't WanNa talk about the steelers right. Now I do want to talk about Saquon and more accurately what to do without Saquon is Wayne Gelman really viable option to go out and get volume man debt chart. There's nothing binds him so yeah. I mean this is a guy who had over forty targets as a rookie so he can catch the ball out of the backfield. You're not replacing Saquon Barclays. I production. You just can't do it especially when you're looking at the waiver wire right now is going to be the top pickup and it's not going to be close. You got a lot of the young quarterbacks Joan the Gardner Menchu's look good Kyle Allen who I loved going into this. I want to rank all guys out. I will let let's hear about allman but Goldman is is sort of like that not that one pickup that everyone's going to want to go and get because of volume. He's going to touch the football. I mean other than that. I mean what other running backs out there on the waiver wire right now that you can legitimately pick up in a competitive league maybe Daryl Williams depending on what happens with Damian Williams in the Shawn McCoy in Kansas City. I mean there's not that much. There's not that much right now. Wow that's search news already knew it but I wanted to get your stamp of approval to to hit the panic button for my fantasy team this year when I was GonNa say about Saquon though by the way what value is there in bringing saquon back and led him getting beaten up if they are like I don't know what it would have their records three in N- nine or whatever at that point what's the value and even three and eight or whatever why rush they who's you're right but if they beat the skin somehow come the winners eagles. I'm not thing I believe. That's going to happen wrong saying it's totally different mindset. They're losing games. There's just no especially will now with Daniel Jones. There's an excitement I mean say callers on the bench two weeks ago. Oh yelling at Pat Shurmur because I'm pretty sure manning gave them zero chance to win. I think all the guys in the team now like this. There's a new spark well. The past I New York giants what do they they need saquon four at all trade right eddies like trade them for a couple of defensive pieces and we're looking at the playoffs right after this New Year's Eve they did I would they did that with Odell. Look how that turned down. If I'm a giants fan I'm looking to get a high pick in the draft next year because you're adding to to the talent because you're rebuilding one hundred hundred well but to Spaghetti's point if they beat the skins there on we in a weird spot there too. I'm by the way I would think that it is the optimal spot. I tweeted that on Sunday night. I'm sure that ah their skins fans hoping hoping that Jay Gruden was watching Daniel Jones and thinking you know what it's time for Dwayne Haskins on Monday night. Oh wait a second and we have the bears here instead. Let's let's throw case keenum. Let's make case keenum the sacrificial lamb to be devoured by a bunch of bears and then and the next week we'll get dwayne. Haskins the sorry giants offense. That's the perfect. Let's also remember those. This giants defense is horrible. That's what what I'm saying is making a case to make the blast it as a dog about a mile gathering storm not not as torrential downpour like what's going on on the banks of the three rivers but if they are what what do you want saquon coming back and do you want. Daniel Jones winning games you get into the moment in that that short term satisfaction of love seeing. Daniel Johnson makes me excited for the future but this Fabio's point. Maybe better of like Yeah Daniel Jones looks awesome the rest of the team's not so good so we're fourteen in twenty twenty though we just got this piece now and getting Danny Dime uh-huh basically a full season of starting experience in the NFL under his belt ahead of next season and then you're heck. I mean Hamer darnold right now like you're talking about New York City. You got a giant. She got jets. You know the jets have always played second fiddle. darnold was the guy now all of a sudden. If Daniel Jones comes in and looks good Daniel Jones I mean he could be the toast a New York City. I love now. He is now for one week. We'll see what happens anyway magin that this is by the way maybe for clippers fans fans hopefully not a harbinger of things to come. This is the year this is it. This was when the jets were finally okay. The jets are obviously going to be better than the giants in two thousand nineteen. How's it going to be true. This you know it's always Gome does sound like somebody who's Barmitzvah attended. Not Running back is there. Is there in. Is there a Wayne who's ever been good at running back Reggie Wayne but that's a cheat Wayne. Cra Bet he's a Waza Wayne Quebec. Okay what is is. Is there ever been a good running back name. Wayne doesn't sound like there's probably a whole lot of history. I'd have to look that up at the position so you're you're saying Wayne Goldman purely because there's not a better option on the waiver wire in any team beyond league going to get touches. No no matter what I mean he's going to get touches in volume is king fantasy football so I mean even if he gives you three four catches a week out of the backfield. I mean he's not going to give you a Barkley production but the opportunities opportunities will at least be there and Daniel Jones back. They're making plays you know and the giants are going to be behind quite a bit. You'd think sorry Eddie but it's the perfect recipe for Danny Jones Jones to save your fantasy football season if you lost Ben Rothlisberger if you lost your if you've got Aaron Rodgers thinking what the Hell's going on with him because he's not been a good fantasy quarterback this season but while i Goldman is good pass catching running back you know what the answer is to that to the query just throughout their Aaron Rodgers has a defense he does. Tom Brady has a defend leflore wants to run the football to the behest of everyone who drafted Aaron Rodgers because he's giving you wow and Jones Eh extend that point is probably going to be in a lot of shootout so that's probably SUCI right fantasy team as he is in the perfect position to make a fantasy the impact as a rookie aside from the fact that his receivers as wide receivers are Kinda but I mean he'll get golden tate back at some point soon here ear and I don't think I but I disagree with the about that I mean I think Sterling Shepard Nevin Ingram amount to and then once but among pass catchers that was the thing that takes a real head is no saquon because he obviously is also a really good pass catcher but okay so let's put those. QB's into some order now. Let's go win. Play show Mason Rudolph. I know you're GonNa Laugh but but you know that he's in fact starting quarterback now now for the rest of the season Kyle Allen for as long as he is the starter will a and that raises. I mean these things just three weeks in there. are some some some things again. That's another. Maybe that is what defines a post week three in the NFL gathering storms say quantity. I want them to come back ax steelers IGE AD and now Kyle Allen on a you know one and two team that you know I. The saints are only two in one one. Are they really. GonNa stick one back in their kyle. Alan keeps on rolling. I Dunno I would think so I would think Ron Rivera pads him every opportunity to get one hundred percent. They're not GONNA be Russian Cam Newton back after what they saw from Kyle and against the cardinals but I mean you know you take that performance with a grain of salt. The cardinals defenses garbage. I know so bad. He's got Houston this week road game so here's a debate on Manala good either so Colin goes out there and tosses three four touchdown passes against Houston. I don't know if they're going to win the game or not but then what can you take another week by the way the guy hasn't done anything the thing and I know it because I believed sufficiently in that Texans offense this year I kept saying in the preseason is spaghetti can affirm that that in in a in a conference of Defense Defense defense the Texans had a chance to stand out because the defense is so that offense should sore but new cop cans. It's where are you fella. I need you man. You're on my fantasy team. You got to pick up the last couple of lactate modest for his high standards. I also got got Carlos Hyde and Duke Johnson. It seems like Carlos high starting to win out more and more on it. I mean the touches in the snaps. I mean are heavily you going to Carlos Hyde. The red zone opportunities do Johnson's Bene- flop. We and we all liked him. Come into the season. After Houston Lost Lamar Miller think it don't man this is finally the opportunity for Johnson approve that he can be featured back. I thought I really didn't sleep. O'Brien doesn't believe he can be because he is is brought in a guy who's been on what four teams in the last year and he's given him. The backfield Carlos Hides floating out there in some fantasy leagues go. You'll get that yeah yeah yeah he could be. He could be okay. Put those guys in win. Place show order for your quarterback who were not starters at the start of the season and now are going forward so you include Randolph and not meant you in this. Everybody main shoe right now. Annual Jones joins the top option number one off of the right not a quarterback because he is got the job. You don't have to worry about someone coming back to take the job from him. He can run with the football. We've seen that two rushing touchdowns yesterday. He did it in college as well. I mean he wasn't Lamar Jackson but in give it three or four hundred yards rushing. That's big big if you look back at the historical data rookie quarterbacks who have put up big fantasy you know I love that Sun with the football you remember when Damasec sat next to you you when we were having a fantasy conversation a decade ago now. Fabiano believe it or not and I said the everybody should be out there picking up Tim Tebow and you said Oh oh now tim Tebow. That's a terrible idea and I said I don't know if you because I've always been on running. quarterback always been on running quarterbacks. Maybe baby after you talk to damage like Daniel Jones stock. The damage was is it a coincidence Daniel. Jones threw touchdown passes to Sterling Shepard Nevin Ingram after I told him to wake up Fabriano love it man and I told you about that too and he yeah right..

"For that long is that Daniel Jones steps in and become the starting quarterback Daniel Jones not the guy replacing the light we see that with head coach is right I mean Daniel does is it would be a poor man's Eli manning so because that's not who we as he has one choice and that's to be Daniel's arms I think that's a great point but also I think it's fair to say he wants to be respectful which is tone wise I bet he like hail on Blair this press conference almost but yeah I would think so. it has to be uncomfortable for the key it and hopefully him being on the field as a safe haven usually as football players when you thrust into a role like this your responsibility is strictly would you say the thing that I like what do you say it was my teammates my coaches with in the building we prepare and we get ready to play a game for that's how you insulate yourself from everything that we're talking about yeah outside of the situation with that being stated. this is this is so uncomfortable for Ricky right that's not coming into replacing guys that they've been cycle in Peru or if you would the Jacksonville and they've never really. has been the face of the franchise for New York City in sixteen years or so hopefully what you want what you think and what government talked about what Pat Shurmur talked about was not only his ability to play the game but his maturity level and and and let me remind people Cutcliffe coast to coast am in college and he teaches and and and treats these guys like adults yeah like like like quarterbacks that are in the in the field so hopefully all the preparation got him ready for all those things that's going to take place what was going on outside of the facility but that needs to be as focused as his teammates his coaches to get rid of one of their. to keep busy yeah I think I I see an authentic guy I think he's great himself I don't I to me this is going to move on quickly. he won quickly it might but if the giants aren't improving. what's going to happen. the problem is you replace the quarterback what does that make him a better team if you look at Las Vegas the quick answer is no from the daily wager our doctors area they are that's the big story no news is news right all the point spread on change following the change from Eli manning the Daniel Johnson makes sense look elize obviously a name is likely had the whole thing what is a thirty eight year old was not look good he's a statue here comes Daniel Jones was looking pretty good All Things Considered in the preseason there has been no line movement see I'm fascinated by that so let me ask you this as a guy wants is what do you think the giants are better or worse or nothing with it with the quarterback is not so much better or worse it's his first start I expect problems I expect a shoes I know coach tells me look on the positive side but look a Manila folder and so on the road I'm thinking Hey it's going to be a rocky start you got a bet on that it also comes down the key numbers this is for all sort of quarterback it's the line was six and a half so if you go to seven the wise guys will definitely take the underdog because then you have to have a second score to lose it is such a key number so when we talk about and it goes to six maybe there that so right now that was just the the the new wants component of all this odds making but also if I wasn't playing well it's not like that's true no it's it's a good point I would just think that there might be a correct I just think that the two are compatible she talked to when I was mayor thinks a line going to come down because giants were thought of to be a bet on team early in the season that they weren't as bad as they look last year because they shored up their offense of line issues which they did it's just their defense has been so leaking in the secondary so I think the lines actually come down before kick off on Sunday. see what happens with that as Daniel Jones takes over for the giants sports center all night ESPN radio you lie manning. may or may not be done in New York. what about Carolina Panthers quarterback cam Newton is what our Paul Finebaum had to say we're not watching the beginning of the end it is the end it's over for candor and I don't know why we are mincing words and trying to find a pretty way.

"From me investors back studio boomer size in Great Jian Audi boomer and Geo on the fan simulcasts across the country on CBS sports network good Wednesday a morning yesterday right after we got off the air when we were talking about Daniel Jones and Eli Manning and everything that was going on with the jets the news game down that the giants would indeed city lie manning and start Daniel Jones this week against the buccaneers by feel like Tennessee five is the only time for Breaking News New York sports today when the Joann's or find out that he was traded to the jets but it happened it had to happen did needed to happen and it happened not because the giants think that the season is lost and they might as well in a lost season. Give this kid a shot to get some experience set him up for the future. I believe that had happened happened because they're all in to got to winnable games coming up and they believe that they have a better shot the win those games with Daniel Jones quarterback than Eli Manning so here's his shot and all all of a sudden like we've been saying for two friggin years. All of a sudden is some life with the giants. There's a there's some excitement. There's some juice this with this team that has been so barring for two years plots. There is something to watch this weekend and Daniel Jones and the buccaneers good morning boomer boomer our you yeah. I'm doing alright. Gio and finally the giants have an alternative. They have not had an alternative over the last five years wasn't going to be Kyle was going to be Davis Webb. It was going to be any of those guys. macadear tried to do you know. Smith the wrong guy to do it with the wrong time handled it wrong but now they have a first round draft pick and he's the number six overall pick. They put a lot into him. David Gentleman you know deciding now. This is what we have to do and I agree with that. I agree with that wholeheartedly. One hundred percents the giants have been very compassionate very good to ally over the years two hundred and fifty million dollars. They let him pick where he wanted to play. If you remember that when he goes to the draft wrapped very few players get a chance to do that and the last six seven years. It's been a losing record. Most quarterbacks have been out three out of the last six years research with a losing record would have been out so he is still here the would you should not be written just yet. He may have a chance to play as the season goes on you never know what happens in the NFL as we've seen already in the first two weeks quarterbacks going down left and right whether it be Trevor Trevor Simian Ju- Breeze Rob Berger Dick Falls you name it. It's it's just a rash of injuries that position so he's still going to be dressed. He's still going to be on the sideline. He's still going to be support his teammate and I would expect nothing less the one thing that we all know you'll be a professional. He'll be gentleman. He'll be supportive. He's just within a different role now and yeah. I know it said for a lot of giant fans. They've already read the eulogies in the papers why so much sadness and I guess that giant fans will call this morning morning and tell us why they're so sad but that's the one thing that's confusing to me is having rooted for a team my entire life that has never gotten to a super bowl in my lifetime has has had all these devastating losses has not had a player like Eli Manning. I can look back and say that guy won two super bowl championships for me. It shouldn't be sadness. I mean it should be looking back and saying wow we're moving on. There's some excitement with the new quarterback and I'm so happy that he gave me all these great moments and now I'm ready for the next era I mean it was as if you no this guy had to retire because of injury and he still had five great years left and that was sort of the reaction yesterday you know it's tough for me to say because I am not one of those giant fans but you're yeah I just expect it from my perspective. It would be more like we love. You live. Thank you and now we're excited to be about. I think there's a lot of that. I think there is a lot of that. I I just think that you know you get overwhelmed with you. Know without the papers react and how certain fans react of course they love them. Of course they believe said he wrote a column for crying out loud. I know Phil wrote a column. I asked fill the come in here this morning. He wouldn't text me back so I don't know norge yea. He did also unfold you know he did not follow. Call me like Jamal Adams on follow Digest. I you know the whole thing is is just that eventually is going to happen and I think we're the giants. Roy made a mistake because they brought him back. I I would have said at the end of last season. That's it we're going to move on and we're going to draft the kid and give you a chance chance that if you wanted to still play and maybe wanted to go play with another team he could have done that in the off season. He wants to stay here according to Chris Mortensen who tweeted out that he doesn't look like he wants to leave. The team wants to stay with the team and all that other stuff watson though I don't know the discussion but I'm just saying that. If the the giants were going to go down this road which we all know and knew that they were going to go down this road the moment they selected Daniel Jones the moment that they got him they probably I should've left ally and I'm not saying this morning for the first time. I've said this in the off season. I've said it on other radio stations so there is a history of that out there this kid deserves the undivided attention of the coaching staff the undivided attention and support from his teammates and really most likely shouldn't and I know this whole idea about mentoring and being there for somebody and being a sounding board sounds great but that's not the way it is. The way it is is everybody nobody wants to play and if you're an Alpha male and you play quarterback you WANNA play so we'll put on a good face. I think Phil captured it right in his article in the post today today about having the pride. Essentially you know you don't want to walk away from the game until either you have to or you know it's on your terms and right now. I wouldn't say this allies terms but again you know he he has made two hundred and fifty million dollars is a two time superbowl award a AH winner. He's a two time. MVP winner in the last six seven years have been atrocious for the entire team so coaches have gone. GM's have gone players have gone and there's been one constant and unfortunately it's been him and you could say whatever you want about how the team has mismanaged different things and brought in the wrong players. you know. I think it was two or three years ago. Jerry reese basically spent a you know a a almost two hundred million dollars on free agents to to support you know an offense that hasn't been that good but often said had Odell Beckham junior and Saquon Barkley how to two years ago yes still could win right and I think that I look at this two different ways on one on hand to give the giants credit for not prolonging it any longer because I really thought that they would i. I didn't think they'd say after two games. We now have to make the switch. I'll give him credit for that but they really should have never been in. This position detailed. I mean this is twenty three million dollar cap it this year. This is a team that has holes all over the place that could have used some of that money to to be able to build this roster up and compete a little bit more and that's really the problem and I wanted desperately for Eli to be Philip Rivers to be Ben Rothlisberger Burger to be Tom Brady to be drew brees in one of these guys in their late thirties early forties would be able to have a miracle season again like you had a couple years ago when they I went to the playoffs and it just wasn't going to happen and they tried to squeeze every bit Outta bid and finally realized they couldn't they realized too late. I think most of the football world world realized that a long time ago and the giants didn't want to admit it but with that being said it didn't prolonged at any longer this year and they said we've got to winnable games coming up against the buccaneers and the Washington redskins and we want to give ourselves the best chance to win. That's why we're putting in Daniel what they want is. They WANNA competitive person playing competitive football at the most important position on the team and you know what I mean by that is that when Pat Shurmur was the offense coordinator ordinary folk Vikings Right Yep. Sam Bradford got hurt. So what do they do. They putting case keenum and what did he do well. He took them to the NFC Thailand Yeah. But how did he play you. Mean meaney was all over the place making big plays. I mean he was extending plays and all that other stuff. The giants have not had an extended play in six years. you know it's been it's been in in the pocket. It's been batted balls. It's been interceptions. It's been overthrows. It's you know it's the lines fault. It's the wide receivers fault. It's the defense's defenses fault. It's the general manager's fault. It's the coach socks. This once thinks this. There's only one constant I would agree with all those assessments aspirant's had they give another guy a chance behind center but they haven't because they haven't had an alternative now finally after that tough conversation that Dave Gentleman had with Eli Manning after last season. They have an alternative. Everybody knows they have the alternative. It's not a fourth round pick. It's not a seventh round pick. This is not the letter Davis Webb. This is not a loop faulk or Trevor Siemian. This is supposed to be a pure bred. NFL quarterback that's why you pick him number six overall and that's why he has the place so it's on him and it's incumbent on him. The try to rescue the season for the giants and make them Competitive Peta Tive at that position yeah and I- giants fan should be excited about this now obviously when he was picked people lost their minds it was booing. There was freaking out. How could you do this. You got got him down the drain and in the preseason which we understand is the preseason but he looked great and there's no denying now he's gotta clean up some of these turnovers. I believe that he will even when he got some game action to cowboy game ended up fumbling in the two seconds that he was out there which is not a good thing and that's something that probably GonNa play him a little bit early on a but it should be really excited and yet he's tall and stands in the pocket and makes the throws but you know something that we've been saying now since the second that they drafted the guy and we saw them in the preseason is he can move. He is quick he can run. He can make those plays he can get out of the pocket and make that throw down the field so just like that the snap of a finger in the giants making this decision. This season feels totally different. It feels like what the jets season was. Last year ended with four wins for them. But would you felt like every time Sam Darnold was out there. You were building towards something something new something different the next phase of giants football and that's what you have right now that you didn't have yesterday at this time. I hope I hope the giants give Dana Jones the three and a half the four years that ally manning needed to get his act together because in two thousand seven when we started on this radio station people want to ally manning and Tom Coughlin gone they wanted him out of here and then all of a sudden magic took hold and they won the superbowl that year of course craighead across the Brooklyn Bridge after they beat the Tampa Eh Bucks on the road and then they go and beat the cowboys and they beat the packers and the rest is history but leading up to that I was sitting here defending alive manning to no end because giant fans it had seen enough you know they didn't they didn't see you know what they ended up seeing at at the end of that two thousand seven season so I I want Daniel Jones to have that same type of cushion if you will that Eli was was given and hopefully he will be a difference maker and.

"Good. Receivable for daniel jones bounds but most of the rest of the receiving core they had a case the drops he's at times and so i think daniel jones is really enjoying throwing to n._f._l. Caliber caliber receivers at this point and and the results speak for themselves. I think you're absolutely right there. One thing i will tell you is i was at practice on monday and the folks that listened to your show will get a kick out of this. Jones hasn't made a whole lot of mistakes in training camp in games. Whatever whatever monday afternoon in practice threw an interception. He'll mine have heard this story. This is a great story mind you he's wearing the red jersey and and they're going at that point you know basically three-quarter speed he sprinted to the sideline he dove at the ball carrier sure and he knocked the ball out in created a fumble it after practice he was asked about that and he said there probably wasn't a real good idea but but it was just sort of typical. I think that's the kind of competitors editor he is. <hes> he made a mistake and look you can probably count on one hand the number of mistakes he's made since he's been drafted by the giants so he made a mistake mistake and his immediate reaction was. I'm not going to dwell on it. I'm gonna fix it and god. Isn't that exactly what you want from your quarterback well. It is is except maybe not when he's wearing the red non context jersey. I think daniel jones doesn't know how to not be a competitor. There you go. Hey jason. I appreciate your time and and hopefully you know when if an win daniel gets to play during the regular season we'll <hes> we'll touch base again. That sounds great and i wish the giants all the luck in the world. <hes> duke fans are now giant fans because look our our program doesn't have a lot of pros there. You guys smattering here and there every so often. We'll get a first round draft. Pick every five years or so. Daniel jones may be the most prominent duke football player since sunny juergen. Go go back to study churkin son. He has a chance to be the most prominent dookie since sunny johnson on a football field and so we're incredibly excited about his future and what he can do with the giants all right. Thank you much jason. We will talk again during the season but i okay that's our show for today. We thank.

"He doesn't want to be sitting there 'cause he lockers like to lockers away from daniel right right right and and they don't want that scene in the law you there you go ahead manning. I mean how much how much more is there. What are they gonna. Ask him going to elicit a compelling response from him. I mean you lie as a competitor her he still. I'm sure i know from a lot of reporting and you know this better than i do. He still feels like this is my job. This is my team. I'm gonna lead them to the playoffs offs. I'm gonna i'm gonna have another great season and the giants are going to have another great season so why you're gonna. I mean the only question you're gonna ask him. Izzo house daniel jones doing how how do you feel about this guy who everyone says it's going to replace you at some point. You doesn't wanna talk about that and he's not going to give you an answer about that. That's going to be satisfying. He's a professional so he's not going to denigrate jones at all and <hes> you know you're looking to create a controversy throughout. Ask him those kind of questions. I don't blame eli manning for leaving. There's nothing for him to say. I mean we all know the questions and we all know the answers already right. There's nothing there's nothing to be gained by it so you know so. Let let let jones have his spotlight for now and and we'll see what happens in the regular season. I know giants. Fans are are excited about jones more excited than they were you when the giants drafted him <hes> you know but but as pat shurmur said you gotta we can't put him in the hall of fame yet. You gotta slow your roll a little bit. I i think it's i think it's exciting for giants fans that we see that hey this kid does have a chance to be to be an n._f._l. Quarterback like i just before i let you go. I did want to ask you. I don't know if you've had a chance to really watch any of the giants preseason games but if you have have has he done anything has he made any throws that that have really surprised you or is that what we've seen from him. I'm pretty much is is that the player that that you thought the giants were getting <hes>. He's been more accurate than i than i thought he would be. I i'll start start by saying i have not watched a lot of the giants games. What i've watched is highlights and cuts of daniel jones. That's where my interest is here. No offense to the giants. I'm i'm not a giants fan. I'm from atlanta atlanta falcons fan but but from what i've seen daniel i feel like he's made a shown a little more accuracy perhaps than he showed at duke. I i've been a little surprised. He was so effective at duke as a runner in addition to passing. I feel like we haven't seen him unleash very much of that yet. I know at the n._f._l. Everyone is faster. Everyone's bigger and the last thing you want especially in preseason your quarter back to get get why we haven't seen that kind of thing but if you're giants fans out there be ready. I'm betting they have stuff in their arsenal. Whether it's read option or you know naked bootleg kind of kind of things that can be really effective with daniel jones that probably don't work with with an eli manning who who isn't as young young and who isn't isn't as fast and probably durable as daniel joneses so i've been a little surprised we haven't seen much of that but but for the most part what i'm seeing is he's throwing to receivers who have who get open better who are faster who are bigger and have better hands than what he had at duke there were. He had a ton of drops at duke. I i mean his completion percent. I said this to you. We spoke over the summer. His completion percentage at duke was affected by the quality of his receivers and i don't mean to imply they were terrible. Some of them were fairly decent t._j. Ramming who who still trying to make an n._f._l. Team this year as a undrafted rookie and who's done fairly well in the preseason was pretty good..

"Maybe we'll get you back on to to discuss some of that. Thank here. Thanks all right. Giants fans are thanks to austin gail for spending a few minutes with us giving us <hes> the pro football focus viewpoint you point on daniel jones the sort of slow your roll viewpoint if you will which obviously we understand which makes sense and obviously in many ways is correct it <hes> it's certainly worth giants fans feeling good. What about jones at this point feeling like maybe this kid has a chance to justify being the sixth overall pick maybe in the end he will justify dave kamins faith in putting the future of the franchise in his hands but three preseason games isn't enough to prove that that that will be the the case. It really should be just enough for us to be optimistic that jones will have an opportunity to be a good player if and when his chance does come james fans. Let's take a quick break for a word from our sponsors. When we come back we will get another other viewpoint on jones that from jason evans of crespi nations duke basketball report podcast in football is finally back and nothing adds to the excitement of watching that first game like having a shot at a million dollars draft kings the leader in one day fantasy football is celebrating the start of the season with an extra special week one contest new users can sign up today and get a free shot at the one one million dollar grand prize just by using code s._p. "I don't know i say all of it is speculation on where the what the giants nights will do but it just can't imagine this giants team getting off to a slow start and not pulling the trigger on a gang joe start well. We shall see see it is the for the giants and giants fans. It is really the story of the two thousand nineteen. Season is what will all the transition to daniel jones. Look like you know. When will it take place or will it take place at all during two thousand in nineteen austin austin. I wanted to to wrap up our short little segment here. Would you agree at this point. You know although it's a small sample size it has to be. I don't think the giants can be vindicated by anything that we've seen so far from the criticism that they took taking daniel jones at six but it has to be encouraging to them that he at least looks like a competent n._f._l. Quarterback oh one hundred percent all signs point to a very encouraging start for daniel jones but the reason for reservation against the sample size and that small sample table-size looks completely different to what we saw across the largest sant larger sample size it do if we saw the same game jones as we did across the small sample size that we get at duke doc. You'll be a different discussion but it's been different. He's been better and those signs are very encouraging. Of course you can't start high fiving the draft room just yet you need him to you needed needed to do it. In the regular season. All signs point to that very encouraged. Epidemic does history you know looking at quarterbacks before. Let you go does history in in your study. Tell you that that a change in accuracy is really unusual for a quarterback from the college which to the n._f._l. Level yeah. I would say that i i would say improving your accuracy especially as quickly as gang. Jaylen says you know not being a very accurate quarterback canoes final season to be more accurate quarterbacks in the n._f._l. Preseason that rapid change is unusual and a big reason why we're kind of holding you know fighting are tong and holding reservations search for daniel jones hype train the pumping the brakes on daniel jones. We need sample size. It's tough to go from inaccurate to very very accurate especially when translate transitioning from the college to the n._f._l. Level you can't steadily improving accuracy with coaching better mechanics and so forth but it doesn't happen overnight and it seems like it has for daniel does which is very unusual in maybe a a big reason why you should put all your stake in it right now all all right hey before i let you go. Why don't you give folks the the pro football focus elevator pitch. Tell them where they can find you on twitter the different <hes> p._f. <hes> <hes> you know twitter handles in in what they can find over there with. You guys coming up absolutely.

"Sitting down with us right now is giants rookie quarterback daniel jones daniel boomer assize and greg hardy good to see a nice to meet you. You are a big son gonna. You're a lot taller than you look on t._v. So what's what's happening man. How is this whole experience been and this has been a wild ride for you since the night of the draft apt to <hes> to training camp and you've got a got a big season yeah. It's been <hes> it's been fun. It's good to get to be playing football again. You know and <hes> back out here on the field building and just trying to learn as much as i can as quick as i can. I answer a good thing which is which is obviously a testament to allies uh-huh longevity and everything but i mean it's it's amazing. I didn't realize you were as big as you are and sterling was telling us how athletic your so that was the thing that actually jumped off the film to me was how well run and throw the ball on the run and that's just a natural thing or something that coach cult cliff and you guys worked on a duke yeah i mean i think it's something <hes> something i've always worked. Mcdonagh coach got was definitely <hes> helpful with that with <hes> getting out of pocket throwing on the run and and make plays <hes> in the run game or extending place you know with my leg so i think that's important part of <hes> you know my game and something i bring our excited. Are you for thursday night. I'm paul. I think you'll be <hes> be a lot of fun fun to get out on the field kind of put to work what we've been <hes> we'll we'll be working on here. <hes> you know these past couple of weeks training camp before that not as so. I'm looking forward for too. I think it'd be <hes> it'll be a lot of fun idea how much you'll play or what's going to happen there. <hes> i'm not sure i'm not sure what the what exactly the plan is with that <hes> <hes> but you know hopefully i'll get some <hes>. I'll get some good time. We'll be able to be able to put some points up so i know you just sitting down with us for the first time just a little background here boomer we're of course is a former n._f._l. And peas big athlete here. I'm a guy who was a high anxiety guy in a north who is a non athletic regular person. Alvear is also very high anxiety when i'm watching the draft all right when i'm watching the draft and i see get picked and see the giants reaction i i am like in the corner in the fetal position for you because i'm like oh my god. This is the worst thing ever for this guy. How's it going to be able to deal with this now. Boomer is just like he'll be fine. He's a quarterback. He's the man it'll be fine you. I want to know your honest feelings when you were going through that when the reaction was what it was because it wasn't so much about you. I think it was about where you were picked. What what were you feeling when you found out the giant fans weren't happy about that pick. At least the majority of them spelt seemed to feel that way yeah well i mean there's worse things in the world than being a first round. Pick the giants giants so i wasn't. I wasn't feeling <hes> wasn't feeling sorry for myself. I mean i think you know as part of it and and i understood it to to some extent but i was just excited for the opportunity opportunity. I think he was where where i wanted to be was how i hope to how i hoped it played out and it did so <hes> you know i wouldn't wasn't too caught up that cut what caught up in that. I was looking forward to to get confused. Like why don't they like me. I don't understand like i'm gonna be their quarterback. Isn't this what you wanted. I mean <hes>. I don't know i'm not sure i thought about that a lot. I think you know part part of it but <hes> like you said looking forward to getting out on the field looking forward to the <hes> you know the seasons it put it up on your shoulder though like i'm gonna. I'm gonna show these people turn on his shoulder. I mean come on this is but here's the deal. This is. Why i said what i said about you was because my draft <hes> situation was completely opposite than yours. I thought i was going to be the six pick and i felt i was pissed. I was a jerk and had a chip on my shoulder. I have a chip on his shoulder but he gets to come here to freaking giants. John jaguars for god's sake get it but i mean people were upset. He had buddha gang. You're so you're you're you're. You're all right so you're north carolina panther fan. I grew up yeah grew up in charlotte panther fan and everything else you play you played a lot of football football in college and you probably nobody thought much of you coming out of high school and then you end up going to duke and then you get coached up and you show everybody that you can play. I mean you're run from where you came from high school to the number. Six overall pick is pretty awesome. Yeah it was <hes> you know kind of looking back on on where where i am now. It is kind of cool to kind of cool to see but <hes> yeah. I was recruited lay at a high school. I grew late. I was <hes> a smaller kid. It kind of throughout my my high school career then grew late gave me an opportunity <hes>. If you didn't go to duke where we're gonna go. There was another school right yeah. I was committed to princeton princeton. <hes> my senior year excuse me by the end of the part. I told you a couple of other things but <hes> b._s._o. I went to do because lucky lucky he'd have that opportunity and <hes> you know able to stay somewhat close homegoods school so it was kind of the best of both the only two guys that got booed and yankee stadium this year were are you and <hes> giancarlo stanton. That's <hes> you know. When i was there i didn't i didn't i didn't hear what was going on. Not not really i mean i think take it wasn't until after the game i i realized that you know when saying i got booed when i was there. I didn't really didn't really hear much but <hes>. I don't worry about all of us. So what's it like working with eli. I i know that you've had a relationship with him. You knew who he was. You're at the manning passing kappa. I i assume right right i was and he and he's <hes> he came down and do a couple of times laws there to work with coach <hes> down there brought his guy so i got to got to meet him then and <hes> it's been great i mean i think he's <hes> you know he's. He's an awesome guy and he's. He's very been very helpful to me. Just just kind of fun to be around and learn from so you know i'm. I'm lucky to be in there with you. Know it's kind of interesting people we're talking to daniel jones a new a rookie quarterback for the giants people keep talking about whether or not he's going to be a mentor or any of that other stuff. It's not that kind of things come natural right i mean the relationship develops in the quarterback room with you kyle and and <hes> and whoever else is in there erin you guys try to kind of work through it. We all know what's going on. They all know that you're a first round. Pick so the d. I would think that the the relationships have developed and <music>. How do you feel like that part of. It is going yeah. I think it's you know i think it's it's gone well. I think it's <hes> you know it's a fun room to be and i think we're we're all <hes> you know working working together trying to help each other and you know with with the vision of helping the team succeed so i think you know me lie alex collier all four of us. I think are or working working really well. I obviously have the most to learn being the being the youngest guy but but you're right. I think it's it's about building relationships and you know being being teammates i and and <hes> you know hopefully that helps us games. You mentioned before that you were hoping that it would play out the way it did and you ended up with the giant so you obviously had different scenarios in your head. Whether or any other teams you really felt. We're going to take you if it wasn't the giants. Did you have a feeling about that. <hes> i did i mean i thought <hes> from what i heard and and and <hes> you know how visits were thought this would would happen. I wasn't sure exactly how it would but <hes> yeah like. I said i'm towards it was the other teams i mean i think you can you can listen to who you want. You can listen to the people the redskins uh-huh. I'm glad to work out how it did and i'm happy to be here. You're getting good at this well. Well you know you who's being tutored. By of course i mean we interviewed ally twelve years now and he's never say you're doing a good job. What's what's the what's the best piece of advice that i gave you off. The field dealing with idiots like us. What's that best piece of advice. I think i don't think he pays is a whole lot of attention. <hes> to to all the you know all the media the noise in and outside of outside of this building outside of his his work in this team and i think that's <hes> you know. I think that's helpful helpful advice. I think he's he's easier said than on all right. I mean come on guy. You got your phone and everything all the time right right. I mean it's easier said than done. Everybody says that but do you actually do that. I mean <hes>. I think you're going to have some some awareness to it but you know i i never <hes> <hes> never seek any of it out or or really you know. Try to try to look for two months. So i mean you can you can do it. Isn't that well by my point. Is i have to work with idiots like this so i feel it so take me out on the field. What's what's the biggest adjustment for you thus far trying to learn a pro offense from where you came from duke. I oh i think <hes> you know wanted. It's just it's just more. I think more in every way whether that you know the stuff we have in the checks. Were were asked to make the line. I mean i think i was i was <hes> you know prepared prepared well with coach cod and kind of how to think through you know read or how to think through <hes> you know diagnosing defense but <hes> <hes> just just more at higher level here. I think is a big thing in the defenses. I think <hes> you know coach. Bashar does a great job with with his defense. Defense different looks. They're giving us and for me. It's a lot of you know the first time i've seen a lot of these looks just just trying to get used to that trying to <hes> you know recognize that and make decisions this quick i can how about the formations personnel groups all that kind of stuff yeah that that's <hes> that's that's a lot you know like i said a lot more.

"Pitcher. I would not have a problem with him. Starting game one of the series i do understand if you're gonna pitch tanaka in game two might as well throw them out there in game one as well just because as you think about his experience yeah which i know the game big game. I know markelle. There's no call them the big. I know i've heard that before the experience thing new jerry and i were talking about it but for a guy to mega monkey go out there and watch in that first game playoff series we just take it all in you know what i'm saying to get those juices flow flown in that first game all of a sudden you might be all over the place you take it all in and you go out there for game two and you do you think you can. I ask you a question of course. Don't you wish that the new york giants i aunts. We're gonna play the cleveland browns this year. I play him next year. I know i would have been great. I for whatever reason like the just the fascination of the giants in regards to the browns players and everything like you know it's not even odell i mean obviously baker with his comments yesterday in odell still talking about the justice about baker's comments and and i know that you know an according to baker. He's walked back. Some of these things fewer i if you listen to what he said he basically said what we all said about where gettleman drafted daniel jones everybody said it and we all love daniel jones everybody likes to kid except for yankee fans who booed him the first time that they met them out there yankee stadium and now all of a sudden. You're watching on the field in preseason. You're like oh wow. This kid's pretty good. He could stand in there. He can throw the ball. How maybe dave gettleman does know something <hes> but it's we all set it also wow that's great. He was the first round talent. We didn't think he was a sixth overall. Pick talent. That was the argument. The other part of the argument was if the giants didn't take them there. Would he had still been there when they were picking later in the first round and most people will tell you the answer to that question is no he would not have been there sure and we're never going to know but a lot of say we wasn't going to to be the here's the problem that i had with the quote not so much the i can't believe they took him. There was the some people over think it. That's where people people go wrong. They forget you've got to win. That's the thing that the implication there of the giants took him because he's the smart guy who's not going to cause any problems as opposed to the talented quarterback. You know it's like the giants chose him because of personality. That's the implication. I didn't like i. I guess they were interviewing baker. Mayfield draft is happening so he's he's reacting in real time like the rest of us were but now this comes out later so it's attached to a commentary that maybe he had given back in april. You know what i'm saying so now. It looks worse because of the way that it's portrayed but but you know here's the thing i think dave gettleman is not complicated. I think he's about as uncomplicated guy out there is there is and he said look. I walked this quarterback. I believe he could be our leader and i think he could be a really good player so i'm gonna go get him. That's not complicated. That's over thinking things and then i would ask you. How many division one football teams are there. I mean there's there's nine song what one thirty one hundred thirty judas. There's juke rank on that list well. They're in power five. We i know so. I want to say because your college expert because that's why you're chiming in. Now i'm asking you. Where would you put duke on the list of those hundred and thirty teams. I don't care power five nothing. Where would you put them on that list. I would say like seventy all right so seventy so here's daniel jones leading these seventieth ranked team against clemson and virginia tech and miami and florida arta stayed and whoever they're playing ball games and the kids get..

"One day after the giants preseason opening victory over the new york jets and to be honest. This is the daniel jones show. It's the daniel jones edition of the podcast. That's really what we have to talk about today as jones debut and here to to help us break it down is quarterback. Analyst extraordinaire big blue view contributor locked on podcast network. Quarterback analysts and lord knows what else he's into who these days. It's the great mark scofield. How you doing mark iv dude well. It's a pleasure to be with you. I don't know what else i'm getting into these days. I i lose track of it myself but it's it's. It's fun to be here said to be here because the era of unbridled optimism. I think it's here giants fans and they should be feeling pretty good this morning. Well you coined that phrase last night and i i have to admit i've gotta give you. I've got to give you some props you we. We were on line last night during the during the rain delay whether delay at metlife stadium last night and i sort of kiddingly reached out to you and i said hey mark. Can you have that that daniel jones film study that we had talked about for friday afternoon june and can you have that done before the game's over it and you're response was a m- already on the fourth row look when that went into delay eh i thought at the back of my mind and you and i actually were talking about this that you'll maybe they should sit him down. Just let them finish that way and it ended up playing out that way thought if if nothing else even if he goes on and throws like two interceptions and he comes back in this game and throws toothpicks that <unk> drive is going to be the storyline people will not want to talk about anything else but that's i thought it was time to write it and i was literally like i was finishing up the fourth row when you penalty although i do have to give some credit though the that phrase the era of unbridled pulled off demands that i stole that from tony kornheiser of all people living here the d._c. Area when the national side stephen strasburg at he had his debut and struck out. I think like sixteen eighteen indians corners was on the radio the next day call at the era of unbridled optimism and is used that about the redskins you know sparingly but i thought it fit look when you have a draft process at a preseason and all of this talk that daniel jones was it worth the six overall peg. People people like me were crushing it look i was guilty of it as anybody for him to come out and go five for five hundred sixty seven and a touchdown and look the way he did. I thought it was a tremendous answer. They're obviously yes lot of football left for him. This preseason let alone regular season snaps. They will get tougher see duffer. Tougher defenses tougher looks more exotic arctic packages but on this one night. I think it's fair for chives fans to be walking a little bit proud today. Puff that chest out a bit because this was a great debut buf- ram well first thing i have to say about that is i love tony kornheiser although i haven't listened to him and i don't really watch pardon.

"Daniel Jones on on the rich Eisen show. So your drafting into New York City. Got him on the general manager giant said it took three snaps at the senior bowl to fall in love with you. Were you aware of those three snaps? Daniel at the time. No, I'm I'm not sure what what three snaps. They were. But yeah, I mean, I think throughout the process, getting to know Mr. cattleman coach Shurmur, everyone here with the giants organization. I, I certainly, you know felt felt like you know, those meetings, were well, I really enjoyed the, you know, the opportunity to get to know those guys and, and, you know, glad it worked out the way then. Yeah. And your relationship with ally manning. How would you describe that so far Daniel, I'm I think it's been I think it's been great. You know to have the opportunity to be sitting next to him in meetings and, and hearing, you know, the things he's thinking about, you know, after practice before practice and kinda just his routine. I think is a is an awesome opportunity. And he's been you know, he's been awesome so far. So I mean it's been great. And, you know, I think we've got a great quarterback. Room with with, you know, Kyle and Alex as well. So you know, we're all we're all helping each other and trying to we can to, to win some football games. So how much bring picking are you doing? A good bit. I mean, I think, you know, I think I'd be, you know, I think it'd be making mistake if I if I didn't take advantage of that. So, you know, he's been he's been very helpful to me, and I'm certainly, you know, not, not shot, ask questions when something comes up. Well, what can you give me a one item so far, that ally manning has volunteered to you over the first few weeks of working out with him? And being a teammate with him that has been helpful for your maturation and development, Daniel Jones. Yeah. I mean, I think a big part of it is the is the pre practice routine, and, you know, kind of getting the script and kind of rehearsing those situations in your head. And making sure you're you've gone up the place and you're clear on what you know what is you're going to be running. And, you know, all the variations of all the media judgments within the play that you need to make. I mean, I think just kinda pretty practice routine of, of preparation and, and how to approach, you know, these. These spring practices so far. It's been helpful and just trying to. Yeah, I definitely learned a lot from that. And the way he's prepared and kind of how he gets ready for practice. Sure. And then, you know, I'm not telling you tells out of school, you're clearly smart guy, going to Duke and you have two ears. I mean, the, the reaction has has not been all positive to you're drafting in New York. And here you are being drafted, you can't control any of that. What, what, how have you dealt with that from hearing it for the first time to currently right now, Daniel, yeah? I mean, I think it's. You know, I certainly don't pay a whole lot of attention to it. But, but like you said, I mean, I think, you know, you're aware of it, and, you know, I'm focused on what on what we're doing here and focused on, on trying to, you know, trying to practice as well. They could these past six weeks and you know, show some progress, you know, over these six weeks. So I mean at the at the end of the day, I'm, I'm, you know, grateful to be part of this franchise this opportunity, and, you know, we're looking forward to, you know, keeping keeping going we'll ever could quarterback. I've met Daniels a control freak and then deep down. A competitor a real red ask competitor..

"I feel for this kid man. He has yet to play a down did anything to play down and everybody is down on him because he didn't have remarkable numbers at Duke, and Dave Brown who crapped out as giants quarterback or I shouldn't say that he didn't succeed is giants quarterback when they chose him and his supplemental draft using a first round selection use them into supplemental draft years ago. He went to Duke, several is making those connections. All these giants fans that thought Dwayne Haskins was better and they should have drafted him. This kid from Duke hasn't played it down yet. And he looks lucky lie manning. He's as tall as him they have the same similar facial expressions. The minute that Daniel Jones was shooting up, radar screens. I'm like, we gotta get him on the show. We will finally do so today in our next segment prior to which Albert brewer is going to join us on the show. Albert's. One of the reasons why we're having them on, because he said his social media, blazed, it sure. Did he Instagram to photograph of his of a kids trophy snapped in half on his Instagram account and tweeted to it as well? Found out my kid got participation trophy had to be done hashtag play like a champion. Hashtag father of the year. There is the, the, the base of the, of the trophy on the left with the legs of what appeared to be like mister met living fan. The legs are still attached to the base. But the baseball with the smiley face on the baseball part of the body is resting, but looks like in the same ashtray or some sort of data dish that. I'm sure he's wife picked out now. We know Albert very well. We know Albert's social media feeds very well. Do you think he actually snapped Detroit? I don't think he was rolling on it. I think I think he's given his two cents on what he thought of the trophy. Right. But did not snap it himself. Exactly he knew what he was getting into yesterday. Well, we're gonna find out because he's calling in and we before he he's, he's going to call in, I then Daniel Jones will call in second while two phone calls in the same segment. That's a rarity rare two for one for us. But I also do want to ask him if Pat Shurmur really means it that Daniel Jones is a shot at starting week one for the giants..

"Maybe not the ones you think. But you know, that there are other teams that are in the same boat. Would they have them quarterback one that I think the smart thing to do is take him at six don't leave it up to fate. Whether he's going to be your quarterback or not don't roll the dice. It'll still be there at seventeen and that sort of move on and address other positions of need or best player valuable wherever you want to do it seventeen Ed. So while the evaluation of Daniel Jones is one fine. And we could talk about that. For example. I don't think he was the sixth best player in the squad's. I don't think it was the top quarterback with the second quarterback in this class. That's my valuation. Their evaluation is apparently different. We could talk about whether they're right away. Right. But the valuation of we need a quarterback. This is the top guy, we've graded and we're here at six, and we don't know if he's going to be there at seventeen I think that the in the given that set of. Facts and circumstances in beliefs drafted in John's at six makes sets like that's sort of like the best case roadmap for this. Now, perhaps the bigger discussion. Is that one is he quarterback one or two in this class? Was he the best option for the giants does pick Daniel Jones just in a vacuum, regardless of where in the draft. When however you wanna frame, it makes sense. Maybe that's tougher debate. Because for me, I don't think so he wasn't my favorite quarterback. He wasn't even in my top five. But at the same time, I have access to maybe twenty percent of the information available. Dave Gettleman gets it all Ed. So the fact that he believed in him, and he Adam scored back one and other teams also felt the same way about him makes me think that there's either behind the scenes stuff at Duke or the way he handles meetings, or some combination of factors that gives NFL teams in those in the inside the belief that looked kicker pan out in the National Football League stuff that we don't have access to. What we do have access to..

"Daniel Jones by himself, and how much of it is the Cutlip back yard line manning Peyton we've heard compared to pay manning trained by manning dot com. You know? That's a nice piece. Right. I mean, obviously. David. Cliff? He didn't fall for turnip truck yesterday. So we been well trained. That was almost a Nick who moment he actually he doesn't know Dave cut clubs first name. He's a general manager of the National Football League. How do you not how how do you not know David cut clubs? I names like who who's this manning who Pat manning Peyton I don't know come on that that's one of the ways they sold this trying to bootstrap Daniel Jones DNA into the manning family, Chris. So again, we're going to have a hell of a poker game. One of these nights. We'll go down to the barn. And we we already got a list about ten or twelve guys come in. And we will clean up. We will clean up. Make sure they bring a lot of cash when we play with them because he will clean up that would be fun. I do think that was a huge reason why they took Daniel Jones. I really do. Now. First of all I wanna pump the brakes on anything being compared to Peyton Manning. I mean, arguably the greatest quarterback of all time certainly in everybody's top five. I mean Payton manning again, this wasn't just some smart guy. When Peyton Manning came out of college. His arm was legit. I'm not gonna say we were sitting there going. Oh, this is Aaron Rodgers Patrick. Homes. But we said, whoa. That's a pretty damn good arm. And he was a phenomenal athlete for his size and had a quick release and could make power throws down the field. So I want to stop all the crap about comparing this guy to Peyton Manning Peyton Manning's on another level. I wanna compare them to a little bit. Sure, I understand that. And I could see that a little bit more. But I do think this had everything to do. And this is why I was on this and said that I thought they were going to take Daniel Jones, you can lock it in because of some of the things you mentioned, I mean old world NFL here was in talks, Ernie Coursey was the GM who hired Eli. I mean, the drafted Eli manning. Okay. Ernie Coursey was hired by the giants to help hire. GM? He hired his buddy. Dave gettleman. Okay. Then gillibrand gotten a conversation. I mean, hey gillibrand and Ernie. Of course, you have known each other since the days of the Dan Marino. John Elway trade. They go way back like four flats in a Cadillac, so yes, I just saw. It coming to where this was the selling point. And I do think cut cliff and the way Daniel Jones handles himself in a meeting room and processes processes information was what they liked most about him. And I just think that's kind of a buyer beware. When you start the conversation off with that type of stuff. I remember one of the other things that Dave Gettleman is looking for is a guy with the overall mental makeup to thrive and survive in the New York media market, and I don't know how I don't know how those hostile ACC Carolina crowds who I don't know. It's easy to glean from that. Right. I'd be more inclined to to defer to a guy like Dwayne Haskins who has gotten it done for Ohio State, even though it was only for a four year. But that's one of the things got them. What was looking for? He's also looking for I big guy to play defensive line. And I know you like this pick Chris with pick number seventeen they go Dexter Lawrence. The Clemson defensive tackle. What do you think of that love that pick? I mean, Dexter Lawrence. I I really thought he was really, you know, top fifteen worthy of somebody took him at the end of the, you know, number nine number ten I wouldn't have been met. I've never seen a three hundred and forty pound man. Move the way Dexter Lawrence. Does it special? I'd call them a dancing bear extremely athletic you, and I talk about it a lot being able to push the pocket, you know, handle double teams in the run game one on one. He can beat you with pure power or speed. It's really a rare rare athlete, and I thought they knocked out of the park with the Dexter Lawrence pick. And we were planning on TV side, the clip of him getting the word, and I love the euphoria that was his mom that was dancing in the foreground. It was great. It reminded me of when the giants drafted Justin Pugh a few years ago and his buddies put him at the bottom of a dog pile. That's how excited they got. So great stuff and and happy guy to be going to New York to play for the giants. Pick number thirty. The giants got back into the round ended up with three picks just like. The raiders they trade up to get the Andre Baker the only corner taken last night an area of need just because they're secondary has many areas of neat. Yeah. Definitely needed a corner. I thought maybe seventeen they might go guy like, greedy Williams. I I'll say this de'andre Baker is a good football player. I don't know if I think he's a great corner. That's going to have to be proven to me. First of all. I don't think there's too many great corners that run over four or five. That would be the first thing that scares me. If you can't, you know, Reno four five against guys like, you know, AJ green and Julio Jones who run for three seven, and all of a sudden you look up, and you go whoa there a tenth and a half faster than a guy. Like this. I go damn. How's it going to stay with them? And he doesn't play like he's faster than four four five two which you ran into combat, and I think he plays really maybe even a hair slower that scares me there. Now, the guy is a great tackler. He's physical. He's pretty smart. So there might be some position versatility with them. And maybe that's what they liked about him ultimately. But I. I don't necessarily love to pick. I would have gone, greedy Williams, all the way six two runs. Four three. You know, again, I'll say this for the ninth time. You've heard me say this. There's a reason the greatest Cornerbacks of all time are the greatest Cornerbacks of all time. You know, the Sanders. Darryl green Durell Rivas champ Bailey. You know, Rod Woodson when he came out Charles Woodson. These are all guys that are low four four four three four two type of talent to where they can run with anybody and that allows them to be able to cover the underneath stuff. Well, because they don't have to hit it into six gear to keep up with people running down the field. So that gives them the ability to be able to stop and start because they never have to go one hundred percent when they're running with other receivers because they're that fast. So those are my concerns about the Andre Baker. So we'll see where that goes. Yeah. Running forty yards in a straight line. Doesn't happen very often during a football game. But defensive backs chasing receivers that straight line speed is very important. So point well made by you when we return the biggest surprise of the night came within the top four picks, we will react to this secret that Jon Gruden and Mike Mayock were keeping and keeping until they finally had to disclose it. What does it mean for the raiders? What does it mean for the player? We'll talk about that when pay to live continues right after this..

"Manning who whether he's back in two thousand nineteen or not is is still open for debate. But he's he's closer to the end. You know, he's very close to the end of time with the giants. Does Daniel Jones to the giants make sense to you. And does Jones have the personality to deal with with with the big city with you know, with the with the media presence in the New York, New jersey area. Does does that does him in New York sound like a good thing to you? Yeah. I don't see why wouldn't fit as I mentioned. He's a he's a smart guy. I don't just say that because he went to do. I mean, but. I've spoken to him. I've I've heard him interviewed a number of times. He's a bright guy who's majoring in economics. He's getting like a a minor or certificate in in marketing and management. So this is someone who you know, he understands I think he will understand the business of being a quarterback. And I'm glad you mentioned the Manning's not only has he been to the Manning's passing camp passing academy. Whatever you wanna call it. But he lie for for several years has has come to Duke to hang out over the summer and work with David cut clip. That's how that's how close cut cliff is with the with the manning family. And I'm I'm certain that Daniel Jones has been a part of those visits. So. I think Jones would have a really have a great mentor in ally. In fact, lies probably already meant toward him some because of that relationship that they've developed through through their shared head coach, David cut cliff. I can't think of any reason he wouldn't be able to handle the New York market, just just fine. Although obviously it all comes down to performance on the field. I mean, look if you take the kid in the first round, and he ends up being a starter. And leading the team having the team be successful. Everyone's gonna love him. It's gonna go great. And the media will be friendly. If on the other hand, you take them in the first round, and maybe he languishes a little bit. And he's not able to get the starting job. Or or the team is struggling with him at quarterback doesn't matter. How savvy he is dead matter. How personable he may be in an interview people aren't going to like it. So to me the question is how do you perform on the field? And and I feel like based on the success. He had a Duke and. What I've seen from him. I think Daniel Jones could be successful NFL quarterback. Sounds like you have read the New York media a little bit. It's all about winning baby. There you go. Hey, jason. I appreciate your spending some time with me dropping knowledge on us about Daniel Jones in if he happens to wind up in a giants uniform. Maybe we'll talk again, I love that. Thanks a lot. I appreciate you spend the time chatting with me. And and getting to know this kid because he's worth it. He's really worth it. Thank you. Okay. Giants fans. Great stuff from Jason about Daniel Jones coming up this week at big blue view. We obviously have the senior bowl coming up this weekend. And when it comes to senior bowl coverage.
